diasomnia's turn finally came up in the sam's new year sale 2024 event today and it was so cute!!!

it starts off with seb, silver, and lilia helping malleus pick out some winter clothes. they look at some cloaks and some mufflers for him

then they run into ortho and trey, and decide to take part in the Koma battle (its basically like spinning tops). it costs 5k madol each for them to participate, so Lilia suggests they spend the 20k madol on sweets and drinks to take back to the dorm to have a party and share with everybody

Bek and Mal think its a great idea, but then Lilia and Silver whisper under their breath that they hope they can have the get together without any issues at least this once 😭

they have the Koma battle, and Mal and Trey's spinning tops remain the last ones standing. But Mal ends up losing when his spinning top gets knocked over, much to Seb's surprise.

They had a lot of fun, and consider coming back to try the battle again. Lilia smiles and says the best thing for them to do now is go back to the dorm, pig out on snacks, and vent over losing. Silver then does his peepaw smile and tells Lilia they bought plenty of food and drinks, and that he should eat to his heart's content 🥹

Shoyo had, once again, been very smart and played hide and seek with his team, grown ass men by the way, in the park after practice last night - at the end of winter. In the chilly rain.

(You had already scolded the other Jackals for it and were pleased to see them appropriately intimidated by your wrath, albeit your usually so endearing chubbiness.)

And now, your husband was lying in bed with a cold. He smiled down at the chicken soup you made for him and you could have sworn his ears blushed when he saw that you had cut the carrots into a heart shape.

He beamed at you as you sat down on the side of the bed, dunking a clean cloth into a bowl of cold water to gently dab at his burning forehead and neck. Maybe you should head to the pharmacy again to stock up on more medicine. The doctor had said simple bedrest and lots of fluids would be enough but Shoyo often defied laws of nature, so some extra reinforcements couldn’t hurt. Absentmindedly, you brushed a few strands of his fiery hair out of his eyes, then noticed him staring.

"Don't look at me like that, I'm still mad at you."

He took a carrot heart on his spoon and, lifting a smug brow, gave you a cheeky smile.

"No, you're not."

She’d been right next to him. In their big fluffy bed, a million miles from everything bad.

She had been right there.

“Shah?” He called out, sounding strangled. He already knew she wasn’t in the house, he could feel it in his bones.

He called for her again, his attempt futile.

Shaking, he dialed her phone, it going directly to voicemail.

What was going on?

Aiden grabbed his scimitars and his “amamma bag”- Aru loved to call it that, and-

Where was Aru??? Why is she not here???

Her phone wasn’t at home though, and he turned on the find my phone and pressed TRACK on her contact photo. It showed five miles away, in the old abandoned mall near Emory College.

Aiden buckled into the car and took off rapidly speed, breaking at least seven traffic rules in the five miles he drove. His hands were slick with panic, and he could feel his chest constricting, the same thought cycling through his head over and over again. Not again.

He parked on the street outside of where Aru was- or at least her phone was. He needed to get it together. No amount of panicking would help her if she was in trouble. He breathed deeply and searched the atmosphere for anything even close to vajra, her electrical bolt. It usually made the air more charged, a small sign he’d grown to notice over the years he’d been around Aru.

It was faint, but the smell of a storm lingered in the air. It wasn’t unlikely for Georgian Februaries to be stormy, but this smell was too… centralised. Too adamant.

He raced into the warehouse, pulling up his black hood. He heard a muffled scream and the scraping of metal, and then suddenly a thud and pure silence.

Aiden rushed forward, heart pounding in his ears. That scream was definitely Shah. When he entered the room, he saw a demon bleeding from the nose on the floor, groaning and rolling onto its side. And tired to a toppled chair, was Aru, mouth stuffed with a cloth. Aiden put her chair the right side up, pulling the gag out of her mouth with a strangled sob. She jumped into his arms, fearless, and completely unfazed, more comforting him than herself.

“I’m okay,” she told him softly. “You got me. I’m alright.”

“How did I-”

“Not important.” She interrupted. “It doesn’t matter. What does matter, though, is getting this asshole-” she gestures to the demon with a broken nose, a neat mark of her handiwork- “dead, or out of here.”

“I vote for dead,” Aiden said grimly, pulling his scimitars out.

“And I don’t,” Aru said. She walked over to her captor, the ground practically shaking with her rage as she gabbed his face and menacingly said, “who sent you, dick wad? Who told you where I live?”

The demon gave a wimper as she continued to squeeze his very broken face. “T-the woman. Pretty.”

Aru frowned. Aiden was at a loss too. “There are millions of pretty women in the Otherworld. Which one, demon?”

“Promise. Promise you won’t kill me.” Aiden couldn’t see the expression Aru made to the demon, but its shoulders sagged for a moment before clearly responding, “Opal.” And promptly dissolving into dust.

I grabbed Aru’s hand, scared she’ll disappear, too. Again.

“Opal, huh,” she murmured, eyes unfocused.

“Shah, do you need to see a doctor? Did you hit your head? Any broken bones?”

She brightened for a second, refocusing on Aiden. “No, I’m fine.”

And so she was fine.

They walked to the car, the chill winter night willing them straight back into their blankets at home, but this time?

Aiden didn’t let go.

You're cold when you wake up, cold at work, cold when you come home. You're cold in the cab of the truck as you drive to Steve's and you are most certainly cold as you sit on the metal staircase and wait for him.

You really should have just gone to the farm store but you're feeling a bit too tired to speak to anyone but your boyfriend. Your boyfriend who said he'd be off almost twenty minutes ago. Not that you really mind waiting -- it's just that the staircase is frigid through your clothes and you really want to hug him and you're tired.

And then you hear him calling your name. He must have gone looking for you in the main buildings, where any smart person would be.

"I'm here, Steve!" you call. You think you hear him curse then he rounds the corner and jogs into the barn. His nose is pink and he's in a puffy coat that makes him look much cuter than he has any right to.

"God, sorry I took so long. Have you been waiting out here this whole time?" he asks in disbelief. "Christ, baby, it's way too cold for that." You know he's actually worried since he called you baby. Usually, he says that in bed, or when he's feeling incredibly tender. He reaches for you and you stand, allowing him to rub your arms with his gloved hands before he starts up the staircase with you in tow.

"If you get milk on the stove we can have hot chocolate," he says as he unlocks the door. His keys jingle and the door creaks a little when he pushes it in. "I'm going to hop in the shower but please get warm, okay? We can spoon as soon as I don't smell like cow." He makes quick work of your layers and then his own, your fingers a little too frozen to work the zipper properly.

"Unless you want to shower, too?" he asks, concern turning to teasing. "I can make room." You laugh but shake your head.

"Nice try, but I'll be fine. Another time." He sighs in dramatic disappointment but winks right after.

"I'll hold you to that." He heads for the bathroom and you tut.

"Steve," you call after him, catching his fingers before he can get too far. You shiver again and he frowns. "You didn't really say hello." You tug on his hand and he returns to you, arms wrapping around your waist as the frown turns to a soft smile.

"I didn't, did I? Sorry 'bout that." He kisses you softly, lips a little chilled against yours but sweet all the same. "Hi," he says. "How was your day?" His eyes search your face, looking at you properly for the first time since he last saw you yesterday.

"Good," you say. You tuck a flyaway behind his ear. "Just wanted a kiss. Now you can go shower." He laughs and kisses you once more for good measure before obeying. You get the milk on the stove and find his cocoa powder in the cabinet before changing into comfy clothes -- sweatpants and a hoodie from the drawer in his dresser that seems to have become yours.

You look around the apartment and see traces of yourself everywhere. Polaroids of you on the fridge, a notepad with your handwriting on the counter. Pairs of your shoes by the door and your jacket and spare gloves hanging on the rack. Your cereal brand on top of the fridge and your books on his shelves.

It kind of looks like you live here, too.

You settle yourself at the table with one of your books and wait for Steve. The chill has mostly faded from your bones in the short time it takes for him to finish, coming out of the bathroom with sweats slung low on his hips and toweling his hair.

"Hey," he says, making his way to the dresser to find a shirt. "I was thinking in the shower--"

"Sounds dirty," you interrupt.

He pads into the kitchen barefoot but no longer bare-chested. "Ha, ha," he mocks. "I was thinking that you really don't need to wait outside for me, like, ever." He moves to stir the milk and you admire the lines of his back through his shirt.

"Well, I could have gone to the farm store but I only wanted to see you--"

"Do you want a key?" he blurts out, finally turning to you. "I mean, will you use a key if I give you one?" His eyes are soft and he doesn't look nervous, exactly. He looks excited.

"Oh," you say. You stand from the chair and hug him where he stands so tight that he makes a little noise. "Are you sure?" Your mouth brushes his earlobe and he sticks his palms under your layers to rest on the skin of your back.

"I mean, look around, honey," he laughs. You feel it in your chest. "You basically live here already. And I know your own space is important so I don't want you to give that up, but I want this to be your space, too. Whenever you want."

"I'd love a key, Steve," you whisper. "Thank you." He kisses your temple.

"Wanna get the mugs?" he asks. "And I was serious about spooning, you know. That bed has both of our names on it."

You can't help it -- you kiss him one, twice, three times before you pull away to get the mugs. Someday you'll be doing this in a home you both properly share, you just know it. But for now, hot chocolate and cuddling is more than enough.

Character headcanon times. We’re starting with a character I sadly know little about: Joe Warren. So…

Should have included photo of him so-

- majority of his closet is suits. No joke it’s literally suit after suit after suit. Wanna borrow clothes? Have a suit. He also has some hoodies and regular shirts- but 80% of his closet is suits.

- he’s bisexual.

- he’s scared of most animals. Especially dolphins. He read that one article talking about how scary dolphins are and he has refused to go near them since. He’s also horrified of fish now after learning about the demon fish incident in case 30 blood in the water of the conspiracy. (Bonus: Rozetta dragged him to an aquarium and he started crying about it. Louis had to comfort him about it)

- he really really likes books. He probably has an entire library somewhere in his house and if you asked him for a book to read, he’d start asking what genre you want what plot what kind of anything-

-he avoids asking for help from others unless he believes it is is absolutely necessary. He doesn’t like troubling people with his issues, because he believes he should not be bothering others with his problems.

- give him any job…ANY JOB- and he will find a way to do it to the best of his ability. Librarian for example. He will probably find a way to read every single book so he can give people a good suggestion when they ask him for book suggestions.

- Joe’s relationship status with ad astra members: he’s a little bitter about what happened with him and Rozetta regarding the aquarium thing, but still on good terms. He adores Louis with all his heart (says it’s not gay and it’s just friendship. Him and Louis have a bro relationship). Joe is okay with Christian and Julia. He counts them as friends but not that close. The minimum amount of close you need to be to be friends with someone he says. He has tea parties with them all by the way.

- He can braid hair. He is…Really really good at braiding hair. He braided Julia’s hair once.

- he has rough hands. And his hands are either extremely cold or extremely warm no in between. So stay away from him in winter or summer.

- he likes hugs. He likes hugs a lot.

- the only marine creature he is willing to be remotely close too are seahorses. He thinks they are silly and adorable.

- when he eats cereal, he always reads the box while eating the cereal.

- he can cook but he also can’t cook. So if you give him something easy to cook he can cook but anything to difficult, either expect him to give up or for the kitchen to have been turned into a complete mess.

- he’s kind of emotional. He either can’t cry or can’t stop crying.

- he can’t bake. He can cook but he can’t bake. He just can’t. He tried making cookies once but they tasted horrible and he cried about it to Louis for 2 hours.

- if he needs to announce something to the public (since he’s the mayor), he sometimes writes what he wants to say on his hand or a napkin, so if he forgets anything he still has something to refer too.

- he has a teddy bear in his bedroom that the ad astra members gave him. The teddy bear even has a little yellow tie on it 🥹

- he’s trying to learn how to speak German- but he isn’t that good at it.

- he has hobbies. His hobbies include writing, reading and drawing. He likes reading most, writing is second, and drawing is last. He can’t draw the best- so he doesn’t like it as much.

- he isn’t that good with kids. He’s almost a bit scared of them sometimes. But majority of the time, he’s scared he’ll accidentally harm them or make them upset, so he keeps his distance.

- relatively good spice tolerance. He can eat most spicy things somehow.

- he plays word search, word cross, sudoku…He enjoys them a lot. But if he can’t find a word or number, he gets really really frustrated. He broke a pencil once playing sudoku.

- Joe tries a lot of things in his free time. Such as origami or painting. He likes origami the most out of the few things he has tried.

- he’s okay at chess. He has at least a 45%-55% chance of winning a chess match depending on his mental state and opponent.

Carter almost recoiled when his hand accidentally touched your limp one. You were ice cold. Carter blinked away tears as the other doctors fought to save your life. This can’t be it. He felt his heart tighten in pure, unadulterated fear. 

“I love you. I love you, Y/N. I love you so much.”

He was unable to stop himself from blurting that out but he sighed in relief as your eyes opened to mere slits. Your voice was incredibly slurred as you tried to form a sentence.

“Love you,too.. I-”

Your heart stopped. All hell broke loose.

1 hour earlier

Winters in Chicago were unforgiving. Wind nipped at any exposed skin that it could find causing shivers to make its way through your body. It had been a fairly busy start to the day as there was an accident due to the ice and snow that had started to fall. It wasn’t clear to some folks that it was an incredibly bad idea to speed, let alone speed when the roads are slick. You were standing outside by yourself, trying your best to hide your shivers when a small child ran up to you. 

“Help! Please! It’s my friend. She-she! She’s hurt!” The young child bawled and you immediately grabbed her hand and let them guide you to the child that was a few blocks away. 

In retrospect, you should have gotten more help, more jackets. Unbeknownst to you, this would be a decision that saved someone’s life but almost cost your yours. 

The wind had already started to pick up and the little child had started to shiver harder than you. So, you made the choice to take off one of your two jackets and wrap it around the child as the two of you made your way to the injured child. 

“Can- Can you tell me exactly what happened?” You had to raise your voice since the wind was howling. 

“We were playing and she dropped her stuffed tiger and the wind was so strong that- that it blew it onto the lake.” The child’s voice was slightly cracked as tears started to stream down her face as she recounted the details of what happened to her friend. 

You could tell just by looking at her that she was suffering from severe hypothermia. In her tiny little hand was the stuffed animal. She was ice cold and her clothes were soaking wet. Turns out that she had fallen through the ice when she got her stuffed animal and her friend had somehow gotten the strength to pull her back to shore and run as fast as her little legs could carry her to get help.

“Okay, I’m gonna do everything that I possibly can to help your friend, but when we start to go back, I need you to stay in front of me, okay?” You said, struggling to stop your teeth from chattering from the cold. 

The young girl nodded and you braced yourself before taking off your second coat. Underneath both of your coats you had on a hoodie that had a faded name of some college embedded on the center of it. You had gloves on but your hands were still almost numb from the wind chill. You took your second coat and wrapped it carefully but firmly around the unconscious child. 

You sighed in relief as the young girl who was walking in front of you had seemed to be a little warmer. You wrapped one arm under the girl’s knees and another under her back but standing up with her in your arms. As you begin to walk, you could feel the cold beginning to seep deep down into your bones. You decide to play flames to keep the other little girl calm. You wanted to distract her from her injured friend. The unconscious little girl had a slow pulse but at this point, you were just glad that she had one. 

“S-so had old are you guys?” You cursed mentally when you realized that your breathing was already starting to become broken up. 

“ I’m 6. And she is 7 and a half.” 

“I-I-I think that it was very brave of you to save your friend like that.” You answered back, trying to fight off the wave of vertigo that had come over you. 

“Thanks!” 

The hospital sign was now showing and you used the rest of your strength to push faster and harder to get this hypothermic girl into the hospital. You stumbled inside and Mark noticed you. At first, he was about to ask you where you had gone but then saw the child in your arms, and the child next to you, he went into doctor mode. Mark also made note that you were not shivering anymore. Before you knew it, both kids were gently taken by Doug to get medical help. You managed to lock eyes with John before your eyes rolled back into your head. The last thing you remember was suddenly feeling a strange warmth and strong arms wrapping around you.

John winced in sympathy as he caught you in his arms, making sure you were secure. Your skin was ice cold and you weren’t even shivering anymore. He felt his heart tighten in fear but he pushed it down and stood with your limp body in his arms. He immediately called out for help but Mark was there with a gurney. Carter carefully placed your body on the gurney, subconsciously grabbing your hand, ignoring the frigid feel of your fingers. After you were started to be taken care of, you were able, against all odds, to get your eyes open. Your body still felt incredibly weird but you were able to make out John and Mark’s voice. Mark took your temperature and Carter let a single tear stream down his cheek when he saw your temperature was 85 degrees. Mark had started you on a liter of warm saline to try to help warm you up. 

“Johnn…” You moaned softly trying to turn your head towards his voice. 

Without any prior warning, he blurted out “I love you. I love you, Y/N. I love you so much.” 

It took the last of your energy to reply to him

“Love you, too… I-” Your voice trailed off and your eyes slipped shut. The monitor played out a continuous beep. Your heart stopped. All hell broke loose. 

You were down for 30 seconds before they got you back. Mark saw the state that John was in and made him go get Peter and Doug. That was the longest 30 seconds of John’s life. Seeing you lay on that hospital bed, limp and not breathing, just… He did not want to lose you.. 

The next time you woke up, you were warm. John was asleep in the chair that was positioned right next to your bed. The memories came flooding back. You slowly sat up, incredibly sore but grateful that you were alive. You had always been in love with John but you never had the courage to tell him your true feelings about him. This was too close. You almost died. You sighed but smiled as John started to wake up. Once he had woken up and realized that you were awake, he jumped up and begin rambling off questions to you.

“Any dizziness? Let me get Mark and let him know you’re awake.”

“How are you feeling?”

“Your’re not in any pain, are-” You cut him off by pulling him to you and placing a soft kiss on his lips. You smiled as you paused and sat back. 

“ I love you, too.” 

You felt your heart flutter when his face lit up. That was a major weight off your chest and you smiled when he kissed you, his hand stroking your cheek gently. You sighed in content. Even in your hospital bed, you felt like you were on cloud nine.
