Hearth & Home Witchcraft That I've Learned
Tumblr media
One of the biggest things that stands out to me when reading about hearth & home witchery is that everyday items are considered magical. Everyday moments, tasks, and chores as well. Its a beautiful way to live, if you really think about it. Big rituals are great, but as someone who is disabled, they rarely are doable. Here is a list of Hearth & Home Witchcraft Tips that i actually practice.
-Enchant a blanket by embroidering a sigil in the corner and using its color correspondences for your needs. It also helps me feel shielded from negative energy during meditation.
-Play music that makes you feel safe and AT HOME. This is almost like grounding, but also can be cleansing to the environment and especially the listeners. For me, its smooth jazz. The chill sound of the standup bass and the wandering piano notes that always seem to find their way to a comfortable key... its soothing to my soul.
-Talk to and about your home (kindly). So often its easy to complain about your living space. How you wish it looked or functioned differently. The house (in my belief) hears you. Treat it with kindness and gratitude for the shelter it provides. I say thank you to the house spirits and my home every morning.
-Find a convenient home protection ritual to do each month. I say convenient because if you overcomplicate things you'll feel less enthusiastic and less motivated to do it, and might even skip several months.
-Make a home cleansing spray using essential oils mixed with an appropriate amount of moon water. I like using a few drops of lemon, rosemary, lavender, and cinnamon. DO NOT spray this in the vicinity of your pets. I only use this spray in rooms where there arent any animals, to avoid complications with their health.
-Wash your bedding as often as you can and say a short incantation before you put it in the wash. It could go something like this. "I cleanse this bedding of all negative energy, from bad dreams, and from and all stress." Sleep is so important to your sense of safety and wellbeing at home.
-Open the damn windows when you can! Stagnant energy is known for dragging down people's moods. And there's nothing quite as uplifting as fresh air. This provides a healthy flow to your house's energy.
-Don't bring things in your home unless you want to incorporate their energy into your environment. This is something that's often overlooked. I especially advise heavy consideration when it comes to thrifting items and bringing them home. Try practicing sensing the energy of items so you can easily tell whats good to bring home and whats not. Thrifting is great! Im not discouraging it btw.
-Fresh flowers work miracles. Not only do they aesthetically brighten the room, but their correspondences and magical properties apply to the room that they're in. Sunflowers are a great example of a flower that encourages positivity, and are extremely affordable to get lots of them. Roses are a bit more expensive usually, but they invite that loving vibe. And African irises are great for psychic enhancement.
Thats all for this post! Reblog it if you found it helpful, or have any of your own cool practices for hearth & home witchcraft to share!

𓃶 Hearth Magic 101
⛤ Please note!!! this post will contain my personal gnosis at some points. Magic is intimately personal and everyone’s practice is different. You may agree or disagree with me at any point during this post. However, while I am sharing this to be educational, please keep in mind that this is my personal outlook on this subject ♡
☾༺♰༻☽
𓃶 What Is Hearth Magic?
Hearth Magic, at its core, is magic of the home. This kind of magic differs greatly between families, cultures and traditions. When starting Hearth Magic, you must take a moment to really think about what home is to you. Your hearth can be anywhere, but generally, the hearth is seen as a place of comfort, growth, and rest.
Taking care of your home has always been important and even sacred for many people. Taking care of it magically is just another way of respecting this place that takes care of you. Your home is somewhere that protects you and those you invite in. Personally, Hearth Magic is almost like showing your gratitude to this familiar place. I would suggest doing research into how the home is taken care of in your own cultures, or watch how others in your life take care of their home and take notes!
☾༺♰༻☽
𓃶 How can I Practice Hearth Magic?
Just like any kind of magic, Hearth Magic will be something you incorporate into your practice in your own ways. To get started, however, here are some things you can do to:
⛤ Get into the habit of cleansing your space. This can be your whole home, or just the one specific place you consider the hearth (a bedroom, living space, kitchen, fireplace etc). You can also cleanse while doing day to day chores! incorporate moon water or intention while washing dishes, or do an herb sweep when cleaning your floors. Brooms are also important magical tools!
⛤ Try a house or home blessing/spell. For me, I made a large spell jar and incorporated ingredients commonly used in my family’s cooking, our yard, and local herbs/herbs we use a lot. This can be used as an invitation for positive energy, or a ward against negativity. This will really help set the energy of the space.
⛤ Start incorporating magic into your cooking. Kitchen magic is an easy and convenient way to keep your life a little more magical. Try adding herbs to sauces with intention, or cook in honor of spirits or deities. Easy foods to incorporate kitchen magic into (at least personally!) include sauces, soups, baked goods, and pasta dishes.
⛤ Start to decorate your home in a way that makes you happy. This doesn’t have to be any specific aesthetic; just making your space somewhere you enjoy being through decor adds to the energy!
⛤ If you like spirit work, consider the possibility that, if you live in a house, there may be a house spirit attached to the space. This can give you an extra opportunity to connect to this space and the spirits within it by honoring this entity.
☾༺♰༻☽
⛤ In all, Hearth Magic can be a very grounding and important part of your magical path if you plan to practice it. It allows you to really grow in a familiar and comfortable space, as well as providing you with a comfortable place to come back to every day, even for mundane life. ♡

Witch Aesthetic: The Hearth Witch
Hearthcraft is a spiritual path rooted in the belief that the home is a place of beauty, power, and protection, a place where people are nurtured and nourished on a spiritual basis as well as a physical and emotional basis.

Cleaned my stove & kitchen, lit a candle, and sprinkled rosemary, salt, and lavender around/over it all.
Just clearing the vibes at the heart of the home, setting up intentions of serenity & clarity. Keeping it organized.

Black Salt in Witchcraft
Black salt is like eggshell powder, it’s one of those things that you’ll hear a LOT of whenever you’re digging into witchcraft practices. In this post I’ll be detailing what it is, what it’s used for, and how you can make it yourself!
Tumblr media
What IS Black Salt (In Witchcraft)?
Not to be confused with anything used in culinary arts, black salt is salt that has been naturally dyed with (usually) charcoal/ashes. It’s used primary in protection work, from the belief that it helps in warding against negative energy and entities.
How to Make Black Salt -
Ingredients:
Coarse sea or kosher salt
Your choice of the following:
Fire pit ashes
Black food coloring
Black pepper
Activated charcoal powder
Instructions:
Combine salt and black additive of your choice
If you want to charge it, leave it in the sun or moonlight for ~12 hours
How to Use Black Salt -
If you believe in using gemstones: put your protection gemstones of choice in a bag of black salt to cleanse and recharge them
Sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house to guard the home
Use it as an ingredient in your spell work recipes to improve the protective qualities of your work
Mark the perimeter of your outdoor sacred space (will stain indoors) when you cast a circle to protect you during ritual work

Work has been kicking my butt for the last few weeks, and I just haven't had it in me to keep my apartment in order when I get home. I finally have a free weekend coming up, but I'm feeling completely unmotivated.
If anyone has any spells or rituals that they use in situations like this and are willing to share them, I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance!

--𝕿𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖘𝖋𝖔𝖗𝖒 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝕸𝖚𝖓𝖉𝖆𝖓𝖊 𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖔 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝕸𝖆𝖌𝖎𝖈𝖐𝖆𝖑--
I want to make somewhat of a education/tip post, since spring time is upon us (those of us who are in the Northern Hemisphere). Spring time comes Spring Cleaning! For most of us!
So, as your resident Hearth Witch, I wanted to make some tips and an educational post about how we can turn those mundane tasks into a magickal task or a ritual. ** I am going to apologize here, this is probably going to be a long post**
Let’s start at the beginning. What is a hearth? A Hearth is known as a place in a home where a fire is kept, nowadays this could be an actual fire place, or a stove. A hearth is generally the center of your home. This is where your guests go when they visit. This is where your energy, as a hearth witch, is maintained.
What is a Hearth witch? (also sometimes referred to as a cottage witch) Hearth witches are witches that magickal practices take place around the home. Keeping it maintained, clean, good energy, well-fed. We take care of the home spirits that live with us. Fire is a main element with Hearth witches, hearth’s have fire, life has fire, people have fire, families, romance. Fire is everywhere. Maintaining that fire keeps us going. A hearth witch focuses on the home! This may also, like me, result in being a kitchen witch, or a green witch. Hearth Witchery often focusing on objects and rituals used around the home, like herbalism, candle magick, and ritual cleaning. Cooking, cleaning, and Homey rituals to make the space inviting and sacred.
Now, Who is the goddess of the hearth? That would be Hestia! Hestia was the Greek virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and hospitality. In Greek mythology, she is the eldest and the youngest daughter of Cronus and Rhea. She was the right ordering of domesticity, the family, the home, and the state. She is one of the big 12 Olympian Deities. I will create a whole post about her another time, But as a basic rule, If you are a hearth witch, She is most likely with you! I keep a candle in my Kitchen “hearth” area for her!
To find your homes hearth area (if you don’t have an actual hearth) this will be where your guests resonate. Most times it is a general living space or a kitchen, if space allows.
Now most of you are reading this to figure out how to turn those gross, mundane tasks; like dishes and laundry, into a magickal, energy reviving task. That’s what I am here for!
Here are the tips!:
1) Before you do any cleaning, or tasks, light a candle. This takes a few seconds, breathe, and make sure you are present. You don’t need to be clear, but be present.
2) Dishes! Don’t think of the task at hand. Dishes take maybe 10 minutes to do, and in comparison to your entire day, this is not very long. Turn on some audio-a popular one is podcasts, or singing bowls, meditation sounds. Use your dish time as a small meditation. You do not need to close your eyes and be completely still and empty to Meditate. When you are cleaning the dishes, you are renewing that energy in your kitchen and your home.
3) Laundry! Laundry is a much-hated past time. (I’m a stay-at-home mom. I hate it) However, you can do the same thing. Use it as a form of meditation. When you are just mindlessly folding those clothes or hanging them on a clothes line, take a second to breathe in the air. Listen to what is around you. Do you hear outside? Kids? Birds? The podcast running from earlier? An audiobook? Folding and cleaning can be very ritualistic as you are-again- renewing the energy that you and your family wear on themselves daily. You don’t want to accidently put negative intentions into your clothes by hating the task.
4) Sweeping and Mopping. This one is a given! Sweep away the old energy, Add some herbs to your mop water to add some *spice* to your cleaning routine (and it smells yummy)
5) Cooking! Cooking is very easy to incorporate magick into! That is a whole post in itself, but just cook with intentions! If your cooking for a party, or family, add some healing vibes, or some nice, welcoming vibes into the food. The possibilities with this category are endless.
6) A cluttered home is a place for stagnant energy. Cleaning and dusting, etc is a way to cycle that energy out. If you have a cluttered corner in a forgotten room of the house, where the energy is stagnant, this is where the Lore of Brownies come from. They are the house spirits that turn stagnant. A lot of the time they can be mistaken for a ghost or a paranormal entity when in reality, you just need to cleanse your houses energy and leave offerings for the house spirit.
7) Ways to meditate if you’re a busy homebody- Like I said before, you do not need to be close eyed, empty mind to meditate. Go on walks, sit outside when you drink your morning coffee, if you’re a gym-rat, use that as a form of meditation. There is so many options but we often forget about them because of social medias take on what meditation can look like aesthetically.
I think this post is long enough. If you want some ideas on other mundane tasks, Correspondences for Hestia, or really anything else, leave a comment! I will answer all of them if I can!

As I get back into practicing and researching lore and folk magic uses for different plants, herbs, crystals, etc. I've noted a big theme: most are used for love, divination, or protection. It feels like everything is associated with these things.
I think this is why working with the thing and creating personal associations is so important. If can help you narrow down and specify associations that are outside of the "common ones."
I understand love, money, divination, and protection was most likely what people in the past (and today, honestly) are concerned with the most. I almost just get so excited and curious when something is associated with something more specific or different.
Random ramble done.

Monthly (Or YEARLY) Hearth Magick Ideas
Start 2024, and the subsequent months off with a little magickal help!
As the calendar months end and begin, it feels like a natural time to freshen up your personal life and environment. At my house, on a mundane level – we wash all our bedding and vaccum the whole house. I start a new section in my bullet journal. We start to plan the budget for the month. At a magickal level though, what else is there to be done? Infinite magick lives in the last and the first…

The journey to build my happy place continues. Today, I got rid of one my most hated possessions —
A filing cabinet.
See, as a disabled person I have LOTS of important paperwork including about half a decade’s worth of medical records for whenever I need to prove my disability to the US government. And papers from the US government stating that they agree that I am disabled. Its just a lot paper, ok?
The reason I hated this stupid motherfucking filing cabinet so much is because I bought it with my first peer advocate worker. Cause she thought I needed somewhere to store the paperwork. And while I was working with her she shamed me for being queer and for being a Pagan until she reduced me to tears, and told me I would burn hell forcing me to relive 20+ years of religious trauma at the hands of the church.
And that is how I learned to stop telling people I’m a Pagan.
The filing cabinet is gone now and I know not everyone believes in cleansing and stuff. But my home just feels so much happier and like its filled with newness, and its like a weight has been fucking lifted.
I feel literally so much better I could cry.
