𓃶 Hearth Magic 101
⛤ Please note!!! this post will contain my personal gnosis at some points. Magic is intimately personal and everyone’s practice is different. You may agree or disagree with me at any point during this post. However, while I am sharing this to be educational, please keep in mind that this is my personal outlook on this subject ♡
☾༺♰༻☽
𓃶 What Is Hearth Magic?
Hearth Magic, at its core, is magic of the home. This kind of magic differs greatly between families, cultures and traditions. When starting Hearth Magic, you must take a moment to really think about what home is to you. Your hearth can be anywhere, but generally, the hearth is seen as a place of comfort, growth, and rest.
Taking care of your home has always been important and even sacred for many people. Taking care of it magically is just another way of respecting this place that takes care of you. Your home is somewhere that protects you and those you invite in. Personally, Hearth Magic is almost like showing your gratitude to this familiar place. I would suggest doing research into how the home is taken care of in your own cultures, or watch how others in your life take care of their home and take notes!

𓃶 How can I Practice Hearth Magic?
Just like any kind of magic, Hearth Magic will be something you incorporate into your practice in your own ways. To get started, however, here are some things you can do to:
⛤ Get into the habit of cleansing your space. This can be your whole home, or just the one specific place you consider the hearth (a bedroom, living space, kitchen, fireplace etc). You can also cleanse while doing day to day chores! incorporate moon water or intention while washing dishes, or do an herb sweep when cleaning your floors. Brooms are also important magical tools!
⛤ Try a house or home blessing/spell. For me, I made a large spell jar and incorporated ingredients commonly used in my family’s cooking, our yard, and local herbs/herbs we use a lot. This can be used as an invitation for positive energy, or a ward against negativity. This will really help set the energy of the space.
⛤ Start incorporating magic into your cooking. Kitchen magic is an easy and convenient way to keep your life a little more magical. Try adding herbs to sauces with intention, or cook in honor of spirits or deities. Easy foods to incorporate kitchen magic into (at least personally!) include sauces, soups, baked goods, and pasta dishes.
⛤ Start to decorate your home in a way that makes you happy. This doesn’t have to be any specific aesthetic; just making your space somewhere you enjoy being through decor adds to the energy!
⛤ If you like spirit work, consider the possibility that, if you live in a house, there may be a house spirit attached to the space. This can give you an extra opportunity to connect to this space and the spirits within it by honoring this entity.
☾༺♰༻☽
⛤ In all, Hearth Magic can be a very grounding and important part of your magical path if you plan to practice it. It allows you to really grow in a familiar and comfortable space, as well as providing you with a comfortable place to come back to every day, even for mundane life. ♡

An easy tip for my fellow spirit workers or others who use candles in their magic (especially "light it and leave it" style casters):
Put stickers on your lighter(s). Have a different colored lighter for various moods or purposes. Put stickers on those shits. My favorite spirit work lighter is hot pink (because it's what I had) and is covered in relevant stickers. A little holographic ghost, a candle, purple and yellow hearts, a butterfly, a white lily, the word "remember."
It's literally that easy. Enchant your lighters. With the power of STICKERS.

Witch Aesthetic: The Hearth Witch
Hearthcraft is a spiritual path rooted in the belief that the home is a place of beauty, power, and protection, a place where people are nurtured and nourished on a spiritual basis as well as a physical and emotional basis.

Speaking of superstitions.
My grandmother taught me this one. Every time you move into a new place, fill a bucket or large bowl with water from inside your new home, and dump the water out the front door to pour out any remaining old energy from the last inhabitants that didn't leave with them, to make the place yours.
I think I'm going to incorporate this for new year's eve. Dump out the old year to make room for the new year. Out with the old, in with the new. Maybe instead of using water, I'll use vodka.

Work has been kicking my butt for the last few weeks, and I just haven't had it in me to keep my apartment in order when I get home. I finally have a free weekend coming up, but I'm feeling completely unmotivated.
If anyone has any spells or rituals that they use in situations like this and are willing to share them, I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance!

How do you Iron?
You don't.
But in all seriousness, I do know how to do it, I just don't do it. My husband is a weirdo who irons his t-shirts, and my maternal grandmother was so serious about ironing that she ironed socks, undies, and bedsheets.
First off, make sure your iron is clean. Irons can accumulate a layer of burnt on gunk, especially if you use starch or if you wash your clothes with fabric softener. You'll want to use a hot iron cleaner as instructed.
Get to know the settings on your iron.
EDIT: This posted when I was trying to save it as a draft. Whoops.
Your iron will have several settings ranging from 1-7 (usually 7). It goes lowest to highest. Steam usually kicks in at about 4, but you can avoid that by not putting water into the reservoir.
More delicate fabrics require a lower setting. Conversely, if you want to kill bacteria on your jeans, crank that shit up to 7 and let the steam flow.
If you're ironing a delicate fabric, especially a delicate synthetic, make sure you use a press cloth. I once ironed tulle withoit a press cloth and I had to get new tulle, a new iron, and a new ironing board cover. It's plastic and it melted! Your press cloth should always be cotton/linen. I usually use a handkerchief or, for a bigger job, a pillowcase I cut to lay flat.
DO NOT STOP YOUR IRON. Move that shit constantly!!!! If you leave it in one place, it can burn or melt your fabric. If you have a particularly stubborn wrinkle, grab that press cloth and go quickly over it again and again.
Do not iron silk.
Iron in circular motions.
Assume that the iron is hot longer than you think it should be. Also, most irons don't have an off button. You have to unplug them.
Read the care labels on your clothes and they will tell you whether or not a fabric can be ironed, and at what temperature.
If your fabric is puckering or becoming wavy, you're burning it! Step away! Do not put something cold on it, or you'll make it worse.
Personally, I almost never iron. Ironing is something I do adjacent to sewing, to do the hems or to add nice pleats. I usually use a steamer. Steamers are gentler on your clothes and can also be used to very slightly open fabric up. So if something is too tight, I steam the fabric and focus on the seams.

i am thinking how much poorer, how much less colorful the world would be if art was only made by "professionals." if all the music, all the stories, all the sketches & paintings & craftwork of the world was created only by the small category of people able to make a decent living from their art. imagine if the only people allowed to create were the experts & the renowned & those aspiring to the top. what a grey world that would be. how much joy would be bleached away! i love you people who create for the sake of creating, i love you artists who do art for tiny audiences, i love you people who make things even just for one person, even just for themselves, even if no one's watching, thank you thank you thank you for decorating the world in which we all exist

A friend of mine had this idea, and I’d love to see it in an urban fantasy: magic is real and it stays secret because it looks like bad CGI. The fakest thing ever.
People who witness magic in person can always have their minds clouded, as they have been for most of human history, but all this newfangled technology has to be handled a different way. A video camera records exactly what it sees.
So, what it sees is … something that looks laughably fake. For any time period. The various secret magicians of the world make a point to keep their spells up to date with the current mundane trends — some of them even have running contests for who can make the most fake-looking spell.
I imagine they have a great time doing it. I sure would.
