hello guys! i come with a plot call for the first time since... i joined wow! i have recently dropped almost all of my threads and kinda need to get back in the groove of it. unfortunately, we’re going to have to brainstorm together for non-event stuff, because my creativity has been drained by the trimester change is currently mia. for those who don’t know milan or don’t know her much, i’m using this post to make a small reintro, an update and a tracker all in the same place.

to make things easier, please leave a like if you are interested in plotting in general or comment debut preparation, novascope or nova iueventa if you are interested in a specific event ! i want to rp with as many nova girls and boys (yes that’s how i call yall) as possible lol !

good to know: milan (20) is a small town girl who moved to korea 4 years ago. she joined legacy in january 2021, and as of april 2023 is part of the debut lineup of nova. she’s extroverted, bright and strives to make people around her happy. she also doesn’t fear approaching new people... unless she biases them (current biases: type zero’s dowoon and nathan + nathan’s manager). she’s a big kpop stan but her ultimate groups are type zero and nova (biases everybody; mega girlcrush hayoung; puppy x koala of eunhye). on the other hand, she doesn’t like revealing too much of herself to others, especially her worries and negative traits. she doesn’t let people near and is likely too attached to the only person she truly can be herself with.

lately: future dreams hasn’t been an easy challenge for any of the contestant, and milan is no exception. since the debut bootcamp, milan has been painfully aware of how much she’s lacking, and future dreams has made her develop a full blown imposter syndrome (that she has kept to herself for now). making it in nova hasn’t ease any of that, quite the opposite

nowadays: after the finale, milan has only taken the time to meet with her best friend ( @lgcxnoeul ) before leaving for her hometown for almost the rest of the week. outside of noeul, the only person she has directly talked about the results of the finale is @lgcakio. during her time away, she’s been quite introspective and, being a practicing catholic, turned to the bible to find encouragement and teachings that could help her go through her currently worries. for now, she’s still seeking, and spends most of her alone free time reading her bible.

private matters: milan isn’t just seeking guidance for her worries concerning her career, but for heart matters too. she still has experience when it comes to flirting and relationships, but she does have feelings for someone who, unfortunately, she knows doesn’t and wouldn’t reciprocate her feelings. however, this knowledge is not enough to make her heart change what it desires, much to her dismay and, at times, sadness.

I am ridiculously late to the Progtober party, so the first 10 will be all one post.

1. How(e) did you first get into prog music? Everybody asks this, so I've gotten very adept at telling the story. It all started when I got the book Ready Player One for Christmas, 2019. That book, full of Rush references, got me into Rush at around the time COVID hit. I stayed obsessed with Rush until early 2021, when I got into Yes, and then it just exploded from there with Tumblr's help.

2. Baby's first prog memories THERE ARE SO MANY so I'm just going to make a list.

Sitting up and squealing the first time I listened to 2112 on headphones (before I started flapping, I used to squeal all the time at prog things).

Reading poignant YouTube comments about Neil Peart's death.

Downloading the rest of the Rush discography (I started with 2112, Moving Pictures, and Signals), then going on an unexpected trip (very long story that I will not tell here) before getting the chance to put it on my music player, then returning home and immediately listening to Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows.

(Writing that out, though, I realized that the way it actually went was I went in order, starting with the self-titled debut, so forget that last part I guess.)

Lying in bed listening to Power Windows.

Listening to half of Hold Your Fire in bed the night before Election Day, then pausing it because I decided to get up, go online, and RSVP for a last-minute campaigning thing an environmentalist group was doing. (I won't say who it was for because then people could figure out where I live, but I will tell you they didn't win.) I then decided I wasn't going to finish listening to the album until after the election.

Which meant I didn't finish it until the following Sunday, when Biden was declared the winner.

Elaine (remember her?) making so much noise I couldn't focus on In The Court.

Being so affected by "Heart of the Sunrise" I couldn't focus on Elaine.

Watching Yessongs videos with the sound off because I didn't have my headphones and didn't want to wake people up but I was still in love with Jon Anderson.

3. Prog band you thought was big but isn't There are probably so many of these too because I generally tend to think prog bands are less obscure than they are, but I do often get surprised when people don't talk about the Strawbs. Someone did think a drawing I did of Robert Fripp was Dave Cousins, though, so maybe they aren't the best example.

4. Prog band you thought was obscure but isn't This is hard! I don't have the opposite problem very much! I do remember thinking Rush was more obscure than they are, though.

5. Your top ten Big™ prog bands Pink Floyd. Uhhhh...Genesis? Does Genesis count? *looks around at posters* I don't know. Unless you want to argue that the Beatles are prog, which I don't really...howe big is Big? Does ELP count? If they count, doesn't Yes count? See, my sense of obscurity is skewed because the bands I grew up on varied in their levels of obscurity so much from Tiger Trap to the Roches to 80s Genesis to the freaking Beatles to local artists I don't want to mention for fear of people figuring out where I live.

Okay, let's say Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Genesis, and no one else. Top three, in no order.

6. Songs you wish were 20 minute prog ballads I wish Firth of Fifth (by Genesis) was longer. It made me fall in love with Tony Banks. Yes, I know it's something like 11 minutes already, but I do not care! Wonderous Stories (by Yes)! It could have used a nice instrumental interlude or something!

8. Fave five prog albums of all times Making me pick five? You are cruel, Keef, cruel. 😂 ... Okay, okay, okay... Selling England by the Pound - Genesis Lizard - King Crimson Tales From Topographic Oceans - Yes Barrett - Syd Barrett (Okay, this one isn't exactly prog rock, but someone* called it "progressive acid folk," which is close enough for me.) Still - Pete Sinfield (If someone wishes to contest my blorbo-claim to Pete, this someone may unblock me and present his case. No, I'm sorry, that's a joke. The other fervent Sinfield-lover gets Pete, and I will be respecting his unwillingness to interact with me.)

*Wait, that was me.

9. Least favorite prog songs/albums/bands and why Well, Love Beach, to be sure. Except "Canario" and "Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman," the latter of which is a fucking underrated 20-minute prog suite, people. (Also, did anyone notice that Peter Sinfield's actually referencing a line in his earlier song "The Song of the Sea Goat" about officers and gentlemen?) "The Gambler" isn't half bad either, but the first three songs (I can't remember what "For You" is like) are lyrically so distasteful to me that I can't notice anything I might like about the music.

Other than that, I don't know. I like 90125 fine, but I'd probably like it more if it wasn't by the same band that was making prog epics the previous decade. Didn't stop me from flapping like crazy when Owner came on the radio at a restaurant one time, though. (And then "Another Brick In The Wall part 2"! Definitely some of the best prog luck I've ever had.)

I've only listened to Going For The One once in its entirety, but I remember not being so in love with it. (Strangely, I love Tormato.) "Wonderous Stories" is fantastic, though, and I've heard some great things about "Awaken" (from Rick Wakeman, to be fair, but still), so perhaps I'll give it another try.

10. Proggers with uncontainable fashion drip This one deserves a fanart. I will be editing the post with something suitable shortly.

━━ lee jiho : future dreams, season 7: alumni interview

he remembers when interviews had been nervewracking for him, a time when he dreaded being sat in this chair and being asked questions. that was a long time ago now, and jiho sits down in the chair comfortably, his posture relaxed as he waits for the staff to ask him whatever questions they wanted him to answer. he has a feeling he knows the gist of it, considering they had been given the task of elevating an old performance.

he's not sure about the other contestants, but he had been given his very first public feature ever and that was kind of surreal to him. recording and performing hit during the first season of future dreams both felt like a lifetime ago and also like it could've happened only yesterday.

it's crazy to think about it like that.

how do you think you've changed and grown as a person?

after hearing the question, jiho pauses to think for a moment, and to gather all of his thoughts before he speaks. he wants to say everything as eloquently as possible, and he doesn't want to make it too confusing by bouncing back and forth between ideas.

"i think i've grown a lot, both as a person and as an idol. hit was a song that came at a time that i wasn't sure if i was ready to be an idol and i had sort of thrown myself head first into the spotlight by signing up for the first season of future dreams." there's a lot of things that he could say here, like talking about how he had often bluffed before about how confident he was in himself, having had that as a wall of protection to hide how nervous he was in general.

"i've definitely grown as a leader and an idol—when i was given the title of 'leader' in agito, i almost wanted to back out. i felt like i didn't deserve that position, but i took to it and tried my best and i would like to say i've learned a lot, in what it takes to be a leader and how to be a good one. i want agito to only grow from her, and i think being on this show as myself will help bring more attention to agito. also, yushin is here," he adds, winking at the camera.

what have you achieved up until now?

this question isn't a hard one either, and he smiles when he thinks of the achievements that he's had, all the goals that he's slowly ticked off in his bucket list.

"i can say agito received our first number one trophy in our last comeback," he starts off, obviously proud of his group and what they've accomplished as a group. he can't help but mention agito even if he's supposed to be talking about himself.

"for me, i've accomplished a lot of things. pre-debut, i was able to collaborate with youngim-sunbaenim on her comeback song at the time, and that song still brings back good memories when i listen to it. i was a guest on amazing saturday, which is a show i enjoy watching quite a bit and it was really fun!" he pauses trying to think chronologically of what things he was also proud of, not wanting to list too many things in case people thought he was bragging but also wanting to mention everything that was important to him.

"i hosted dream concert this year, which was amazing and i also participated in writing lyrics for a handful of songs, and not only for agito," he winks playfully, though he's sure the fans who are watching know exactly what he's talking about. he's very pleased that he had worked on the songs that he had, and he's still working on more in the future even if his schedule has been disrupted by this season of future dreams.

what do you wish to achieve in the future?

this is an easy question and he doesn't have to think very hard before the answer is already on his tongue. "i want to fully write and compose a full album for agito," he says sincerely, and it's something he's been working towards, studying music composition diligently whenever he has time between schedules. he's been a studio bug since they had received said personal studios, and he's been working hard on songs that he hopes will become hits in the future.

"i also want to win a daesang one day, and more wins for v&a in the future," he says, grinning. there's a lot of other things that he wishes to achieve too, but he'll keep it to just these for the sake of the editors and anyone watching.

what are your motivations for participating in future dreams: alumni?

"i think this is obvious, no?" jiho asks back first, looking at the interviewer and raising an eyebrow playfully. "i would be surprised if anyone else answered differently, but i want to promote v&a in a way that i haven't yet—as a solo artist. of course, receiving a solo gig and song and promotion cycle is also amazing, but everything i do is to get agito's name out there. i want us to be a group that lasts for a long time. maybe forever, if that's possible."

DSMP Battle of the Bands au

aka found family music edition

Groups of semi famous bands competing for money is the main premise. There was a national (UK) competition for a new band to enter as well

This is a everyone is good au, fight me

Sleepy Boys Inc- Most well known of the big name bands, Wilbur is lead singer and guitarist, Techno plays bass and Phil is the drummer

Feral Boys- Also pretty famous, Dream is lead singer, Quackity is back up vocals and lead guitar, George is the bassist, Karl is rhythm guitar or keyboard depending on what's needed, Sapnap drums

The Badlands- more underground but famous in the right circles, Puffy sings, Sam plays bass, Bad drums, Skeppy is lead guitar and Ant is rhythm guitar.

Rapid Incline- winner of the competition and basically unknown, Tommy is lead singer and guitarist, Ranboo plays bass, Tubbo switches between keyboard and backup guitar if needed, Jack drums

Anyone not mentioned in the band list has a different role

Schlatt is SBI's manager

Eret runs a record company and is one of the judges as well as one of the main people paying for the event

Fundy is head of tech

Niki is an honorary member of RI as Jack's best friend and Ranboo's adopted sister and they jokingly call her their first fan

Foolish is Puffy's adopted son who helps the bands set up at gigs

Ponk is Sam's medical student boyfriend

Callahan is event coordinator

Punz runs lighting and sound with Purpled as an apprentice

Hannah is stage manager

Hbomb helps Fundy (the catmaid bit is canon)

Charlie turned up to rehearsal one day and he's just there now. no one knows what to do with him

Tommy is a massive SBI fan and they 100% inspired him to start RI

The band name for Rapid Incline was incredibly last minute, they couldn't decide before hand

None of the songs from the Badlands have swear words in them and everyone thought it was an artistic choice. the members just don't want to get languaged

Eret has already decided that even if RI looses the contest, they're gonna take them on

All the deaths are...kinda canon? like the duel death is just that Dream accidently broke Tommy's guitar like an hour before a show and Jack's Manburg death was him falling over when he was hanging out with Wilbur and breaking his arm

RI's debut album is called "Painted Down the Middle" and includes such hits as "Who said I was a soft boy?" and "You can't have my gender, sorry"

Their second album is "Swatches" and has more influence from Jack after the fans heard him sing in one of the songs in PDtM

He has a song on the album that's just him (with Tommy on guitar) called Solo Blue which is about his mental health.

Ranboo, Punz and Sam are nonbinary, Puffy is gnc and Tommy and Fundy are ftm trans

Phil isn't Wilbur's dad but he is the oldest so they joke about it

Karlnapity aka Sapnap and his guitar boyfriends

Niki meets Puffy when they both come to a RI rehearsal and it's love at first sight

TXT reacting to their girlfriend finally debuting.

Yeonjun knew how big of a deal this would be, having you debut in a KPOP group with your background. And well, BigHit thought so too.

You were the secret card they wanted to use to draw everyone in and because it was BigHit we are talking about, they got a thirty seconds teaser for their new girl group at an award show and while the first 25 seconds were showing your other members and reeling in cheer after cheer, the last five minutes were dedicated to you.

And the moment you turned around and smirked into the camera, the audience lost their shit.

BTS was thankfully cheering their ass off, so Yeonjun could do so too without it looking suspicious.

Of course, BTS were simply cheering for their new colleagues, whereas Yeonjun was cheering for his girlfriend of two years, ever since you joined the company.

Soobin's eyes scanned the room as he was about to sit down, smiling at you when he finally spotted you sitting somewhere in the back with your two trainee colleagues.

You and him have been dating for almost half a year now, but not even the company knew. They probably wouldn't contest to it, since you were keeping it under wraps well and were under the same company, after all, but you wanted to keep it a secret as long as you possibly could.

“Sit down, they'll suspect something,” Taehyun pulled him down by his sleeve, “Besides, it's starting.”

This was BigHit's annual conference in regards to plans for the next year. That included already existing groups, such as TXT and then again, groups that would be formed.

“Now, let's get to the part that a lot of you have been waiting for,” Bang PD looked up into the crowd of trainee's, idols and staff members, “The new groups debuting next year.”

Soobin instantly crossed his fingers and made the other members do it too.

You had worked so hard the last year, you deserved to be on that list.

And.. well..

“We thought a lot about what we want to do. Debuting multiple girl groups this year isn't a good idea, we need to take it one step at a time. So for now, we'll focus on only one group,” Bang PD pressed a button for the next slide of his powerpoint. On that slide, there were six pictures.

And your face was on one.

Everyone cheered and Soobin was one of the first to get up and clap proudly, wishing he could go over to you and hug you so tightly, but he'd do that later tonight. For now, he was content just watching you hug your best friends with tears running down your cheeks.

He was so proud.

You were so nervous, after all, this was your first performance after you made your debut two days ago.

But as if the producers of this show had known, the MC for this broadcast was none other than your boyfriend.

He obviously had to be professional when the camera was rolling, but his presence in the room alone was enough for you to feel more at ease.

And as soon as the cameras were off, he pulled you behind his and your members to get a bit of privacy and kissed your cheek, “You'll do great, okay?”

"Are you sure?” you shifted from one foot to the other, “Everyone’s counting on me.”

“Listen to me,” he cupped your face, “You worked your butt off for this. You’ll do great, you just have to believe in yourself like I believe in you.”

The longer you looked into his determined eyes, the more you started to believe him until you finally began to smile.

“Okay...”

Your company knew what the audience liked to see when it came down to a new girl group. They needed the fans – which would mostly be men – to be interested in you. You could go at this two ways, the cutesy way or the sexy way. But your company was like, why choose one when you could have both?

And so your debut song was one that YouTube nowadays liked to call “Plot Twist Songs”, with your group showing a sexy and cute side in one video. And as Taehyun was watching the video for the first time, he knew that this would do incredibly well with his gender.

“So? What do you think?” you asked with an excited grin, taking your phone out of his hand, “Pretty cool, huh?”

“Yeah.. you're going to have so many fans by tomorrow,” but then why did that sound.. upset? Isn’t that something to be excited about?

Your smile slowly faltered, then your shoulders dropped, “You disapprove.”

“No, wait!” your boyfriend ran after you when you wanted to leave his bedroom.

It's not that he didn't like it, of course he did, you were in that video, that alone made him love it! He just had to come to terms that by this time tomorrow, he'd have to share you with millions.

Of course, he forgot that you had been doing that for a year now already.

You had been a trainee as long as Kai had. He had made his debut at this point, but you were still just a trainee.

He tried to give you hope that it would happen soon, but by now, you were starting to believe that you'd never make your debut. That BigHit was simply keeping you around because they were trying to find the right time to let you go.

Kai was currently going upstairs because he needed to talk to his manager and passed by Bang PD's office on his way there. The door was slightly ajar, not enough for him to see who he was talking to, but enough to hear what they were talking about.

“I thought about this for a long time. (Y/N) isn't good for a group.”

Kai froze at that, a rush of nausea hitting him.

“I understand, sir. It's just.. she'll be surprised to hear about this now after she trained for this for so long.”

“Yes, I know. Prepare her well for it.”

Your boyfriend managed to run away before he'd be spotted eavesdropping.

How could they do this to you? How dare they? After all you had sacrificed for this company, they’d just throw you away without even giving you a chance?

And what was he supposed to do? Tell you in advance so you wouldn't be too surprised or heartbroken? As his boyfriend, that seemed to be his duty.

And so he texted you and found out that you were actually still in the building. He found you scribbling something down on your iPad, smiling at him when he came into view.

But Kai wasn't smiling.

“What's wrong?” you furrowed your eyebrows in worry.

And just as he was about to say it, someone approached the two of you and the moment he spoke, Kai realized what was about to happen, because he recognized the voice. He sat down next to you and put his hand on your back, beginning to gently brush it up and down to let you know he was here.

“Can we talk, (Y/N)? Alone?”

“Ah, it's okay,” you smiled and pointed at the seat in front of you. The manager knew that you two were dating, so he allowed it.

“I just talked to the CEO. He revealed his plans for you to me and..-” the moment of silence was enough for your heart to skip multiple beats, “..- he decided that you don't fit into a girl group.”

It was almost like Kai could feel your heart break right there and then.

And when you spoke, he could tell that you were trying to hold back tears, but still be strong, “I see..”

“He wants you to debut solo.”

The manager should have recorded your faces when you both looked back at him with eyes so wide, that it looked like they were about to pop out.

“Congratulations,” he grinned happily.

Now you've been asked what you do like about him what about the opposite what don't you like about goh?

Aw man, this is gonna hurt.

TL;DR - Goh’s a completely lovable character, but I have three particular issues with him that I feel could become worse if not taken care of properly.

First off, DISCLAIMERS!! To all my fellow Goh fans, please know that writing this, I do not mean any hatred to Goh in anyway. I LOVE Goh, and if you’ve seen literally ANY of my past anipoke posts, you would already know that. These are just issues I find with his character that I want to be changed for the best.

Now with that outta the way, here’s what I don’t like about Goh:

1. His iffy character development. While he’s doing fine in becoming more open to people and more willing to help Pokemon, his fighting skills are what I have trouble with it. Let’s go back to his first ever official battle.

It was at Hoenn’s Frontier Cup where he used Scorbunny and Scyther against a trainer’s Mightyena. Despite having a type advantage with Scyther, he lost horribly, which is completely understandable. He’s a beginner and doesn’t possess the same kind of street smarts and experience Ash and many other trainers have. Alright then, so maybe this will lead to a change in character of wanting to become better in battles by getting some training with Ash, who made quick work of that Mightyena trainer. Surely we’ll get some development over this topic after this episode!

He beats Saffron City’s Karate Master and scores a free Hitmonchan.

...Okaaaay, I mean, we’ve never seen the Karate Master in battle before, so perhaps it was just another fodder trainer the anime is filled of. I sure we’ll get some more Goh development after thi-

He easily defeats and captures a powerful Flygon.

.....Alright, alright, it was only a wild Pokemon. Everyone can beat those, right? Heck, in the next episode, he technically suffers a curbstomp loss against Kiawe and admits he only battles Ash every so often. Perhaps this loss will encourage Goh to train more with Ash so he could become a stronger trainer. I mean, despite his good luck with Pokeballs, he’s gonna need to be as strong as he can be for tougher mons, like Legendaries. I’m 100% sure we’ll get something out of thi-

He takes down a wild Zapdos and NEARLY captures it.

.........Uh, okie dokes, it wasn’t a successful capture, and who knows? Even though we have not seen him battle/train that much on-screen, maybe he just got a little lucky. Even in the games, it happens to the best of us. Perhaps this barely missed victory will finally give Goh the time to actually development more on-screen so that he could have a better chance agai-

He defeats Oleana’s Milotic, using his fire-type Raboot who only wanted to use a weak fire-type move.

..............Allllriiiiight, maybe Oleana just got a little cocky later on. Plus, Raboot finished Milotic by evolving in Cinderace and finishing it off with Pyro Ball. With this powerful evolution in hand, maybe Goh will finally realize that, in order for Cinderace to reach its greatest potential, he must start training for once and obtain some proper development for a chance against stronger threa-

Cinderace fights decently well against Mewtwo, even lasting longer than Pikachu and being on-par with the more trained Lucario.

....................At this point, I’m all out of excuses for him. Overall, Goh’s development as a trainer is very rushed to the point seeing him achieve numerous victories despite all odds being against his favor to be iffy.

2. Slightly touchy topic, but there are some negatives with his whole catching all Pokemon goal. So Goh wants to catch every single mon he can in order to reach up to Mew, as he said to Mewtwo in episode 46. And yes, this includes Legendaries as well. Unfortunately, this is where my issues with his goal starts. First off, where in the world will Goh keep any Legendary he encounters? Cerise’s glorified garden dome? Yeah, keep Dialga and Palkia, literal beings of space and time, inside a glass dome with a bunch of weaker mons. And speaking of which, wouldn’t catching mons like the Creation Trio or the Island Guardians cause quite the upset in, well, y’know, the natural balance of things? Sure, Goh technically hasn’t caught a single Legendary yet (Eternatus doesn’t count because it had to be sealed away), with how the anime is playing out, issues like this will surely rise throughout the series.

And yes, the anime is playing it out for Goh to indeed catch every single mon before reaching Mew. If you pay attention to the openings as well as many of Goh’s own character moments, such as episode 46, then you can easily see the signs telling us that Goh is bound to catch them all, just as Ash is bound on defeating Leon. In the past, pretty much all of Ash’s traveling companions had their own goals as well, but it’s usually because of those goals is why they leave Ash by the end of their journeys, like May and Dawn pursuing contests in other regions, Brock wanting to become a doctor, Iris wanting to find more Dragon types, Kiawe wanting to become an Island Kahuna etc. Because of that, it becomes up to the audience’s interpretation (and fanfics) on how they achieve their dreams and what challenges they could face throughout the way. With Goh, there will a lot more focus and emphasis placed on his goal, and while this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s too bad there aren’t really any stakes or obstacles in Goh’s journey!

Really now, another glaring issue with Goh’s goal is that he has NO trouble going through with it at all. From his very first fodder capture, all he has to do is get a good throw and then PING! Pokemon caught. Guess the thing of having to weaken a Pokemon first before capturing it has been retconned out of the anime forever. With that said, there’s absolutely no struggle for Goh to overcome in his journey, which kinda makes things boring. Where’s the challenge? Where are his rivals? Are there any doubts? Does he have any issue of having to catch and connect every single mon in existence? No, well then good for him I guess! Sad thing too is that he catches so many Pokemon with so much potential, but they then disappear completely after their debut.

Remember that free Hitmonchan he scored from Saffron’s Fighting Dojo who seemed completely willing to train with Riolu and Farfetch’d? Never seen again. That female Raichu who loves giving berries? Completely forgotten about. That Aerodactyl Goh resurrected and bonded with before catching? Thanos snapped. The Heracross Goh obtained from a trade at the cost of a second Pinsir he worked hard to find? Literally who?

3. And my biggest issue with Goh. The fact he’s somehow on the same scale as Ash.

Don’t believe me? Well, let’s go back to the ending of episode 46. After Mewtwo teleported him, Ash, Pikachu, Lucario, and Cinderace back home, Goh said this: “We’ve still got a long way to go.”

Excuse me, but WHAT?!?!?!

You BOTH got a long way to go, even though you both suffered a complete curbstomp from a mon that would probably even make the likes of Lance, Cynthia, and Leon comparable to Youngster Joey?!?! What the Distortion World?!?! Why is Goh and, by extension, the writers implying he and Ash are on even terms when it comes to being a trainer? Goh, as a reminder, you literally only began your trainer career 45 episodes ago!!

Alright, let’s talk about Ash for a second and what he’s been through since he started his trainer career. Ash started in Kanto, and while he really only fairly achieved three out of his eight badges (Brock and Misty’s were givens, Erika’s was a thank-you gift, Sabrina’s was all Haunter’s doing, and Jessie and James are complete jokes that no one should take seriously), he still partook in as many battles as he could against tough trainers while getting some pointers from the much more experienced Misty and Brock. After that, he went on to become a much more impressive trainer in later journeys. Instead of a full recap, I’ll just list two impressive things Ash has done in each region he’s journeyed through after losing in the Kanto League.

Orange Islands: Won his first official double battle with Pikachu and Charizard despite neither initially getting along at first and then defeated the Orange League champ, Drake.

Johto: Survived an entire forest of bloodthirsty Ursaring with his friends and defeated Gary’s Blastoise with his Charizard.

Hoenn: Helped stopped both Team Magma and Team Aqua’s elemental threats and reached Top 8 in the Hoenn League despite only two of his mons being fully evolved with one being a glass cannon bird.

Kanto again: Conquered the Battle Frontier and tied with May in his first ever contest.

Sinnoh: Helped protect a Riolu from the famed Hunter J and knocked out two of Tobias’ Legendary Pokemon.

Unova: Defeated Iris’ Dragonite twice (Charizard pretty much had the high ground in their fight) and helped protect Meloetta.

Kalos: Defeated four Mega Evolutions (Lucario, Abomasnow, Absol, and Sceptile) and was one of the main heroes against Lysandre.

Alola: Became an Ultra Guardian and conquered the Alola League.

And right now as of Journeys: Defeated Korinna’s Mienfoo and Mega Lucario with only Dragonite right after the two curbstomped Gengar and defeated Chairman Rose.

And this isn’t even scratching the surface, and yet, somehow, Ash is still on the same scale of Goh. This doesn’t make any logical sense, it completely negates Ash’s experience while over-wanking Goh’s, and it ruins any semblance of power scaling between the two. Logically, Ash should be leagues above Goh and the latter should always confide to Ash whenever he needs assistance or pointers, not “Oh, we both lost to a powerful legendary, guess that means we both have stuff to learn and we’re both beginners lul”. It’s like Deku and All Might both losing a villain that’s beyond both of their capabilities, and then Deku saying that they BOTH have much to learn afterwards! Does it make sense? HECK NO.

If they had to have Goh comment about their loss, why couldn’t he say something that would’ve made more sense? Maybe say something like “Wow, I can’t believe I lasted that long, honestly.” And then Ash would say, “Hey, you’re only getting better. And me and my team will always be there in case you need more training.” Have the two acknowledge the fact that even trainers like Leon wouldn’t fare any better than them against Mewtwo. Just absolutely anything that doesn’t completely ruin what we know of these characters to the point the two are considered equals, despite all the evidence saying otherwise.

Advantages of Traditional Publishing

What is traditional publishing?

Traditional book publishing is when a publisher offers the author a contract and, in turn, prints, publishes, and sells your book through booksellers and other retailers. The publisher essentially buys the right to publish your book and pays you royalties from the sales.

Let’s Break Some Things Up:

#1: LITERARY AGENTS

As a traditionally published author, your literary agent does more than just shop your manuscript around to publishing houses in hopes of snagging you a book deal. Your agent is your champion. They fight on behalf of you and your manuscript to help you get the most out of your traditional publishing experience.

Agents negotiate book deals and subsidiary contracts, cash advances, royalty rates, and other business-related matters. They also help manage an author's income affairs after their book deals have been signed, make sure authors stay on top of deadlines, and provide them with advice and encouragement as they navigate the industry.

Perhaps most importantly of all, agents mentor authors as they build their writing careers, helping them achieve long-term success in publishing.

#2: A TEAM OF DEDICATED PROFESSIONALS

When an author inks a book deal with a publishing house, their book is assigned a team of professional editors, proofreaders, formatters, cover designers, marketers, and more that will help bring their book to life.

While self-published authors can (and should) hire professionals to help them as well, authors who choose traditional publishing don't have to pay a single dime upfront to work with their team.

#3: NO UPFRONT COSTS

In fact, traditionally published authors don’t have to pay any upfront costs to publish their books. Should any agent or industry professional insist you pay them any sum of money, run the other way, my friend. They're almost certainly trying to scam you. As Brittany would say: meanie heads.

#4: CASH ADVANCES

When an author signs a book deal, they'll likely receive a signing bonus called an advance. So long as the author fulfills their contract requirements, they are guaranteed to earn this advance regardless of how well their book sells after it’s been published.

Advances for debut authors tend to fall between $2,000 and $15,000 USD, depending on many factors, the biggest being the size and prestige of the publishing house. Don’t we all want that? I certainly do lol. Advances are typically paid out in several installments over the course of a year, most often after the author reaches major milestones in their publishing duties.

#5: GREATER VISIBILITY AND REACH

While it isn’t impossible for self-published authors to have their novels shelved in major bookstores, negotiate international book deals and subsidiary rights, or book author events like tours and readings, these opportunities are all far easier to attain when an author chooses to publish traditionally. Why was that all one sentence? I don’t know, but I’m in math class rn. I don’t have time to edit this.

The visibility and reach traditional publishing provides can also help writers grow their careers faster than self-published authors, giving them a far greater chance of becoming a well-known name in fiction.

#6: MORE TIME TO WRITE

Self-published authors must coordinate everything involved in the publishing of their books, which can lead to far less time spent on the actual act of writing.

However, traditionally published authors don’t have to worry about organizing their book’s cover design, blurb, formatting, copy-edits, etc. because their publishing house has already assigned their book to a team of experts. Yay!

#7: GREATER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACCLAIM

In addition to having a better chance of becoming a well-known author, writers who choose the traditional publishing path also have more opportunities to win book awards, earn starred reviews, and land on bestseller lists. Speaking of contests...you should totally join mine :)

#8: MARKETING ASSISTANCE

While most traditionally published authors must still market their books, they do have the opportunity to organize marketing plans with the team of experts at their publisher.

Additionally, as traditionally published authors’ careers take off, it’s far more likely that they’ll receive additional marketing help as the publisher looks to capitalize as much as possible off of their success.

#9: LESS STIGMA

Unfortunately, there are still many readers who refuse to read self-published books because of the stigma surrounding them, which leads many to believe that self-published books aren’t as high quality as those from big-name publishers. This is not true whatsoever. Go support self-published authors guys!

There are also many readers who simply don’t take the time to seek out self-published books. Publishing traditionally can help an author avoid this stigma and get their books in front of as many readers as possible.

this is my ranking of the 2006 esc final after rewatching it all in full HD! to be honest, the highlight was seeing helena paparizou & sakis rouvas in HD, but i guess i can talk about the contestants as well ☺️

24. 🇱🇻 vocal group cosmos - i hear your heart: a capella at eurovision is a bold choice to begin with, but at least get people that can sing in tune… maybe i’m asking for too much.

23. 🇨🇭 six4one - if we all give a little: this is quite possibly the weirdest matched group ever, they have no chemistry & all of them look like they were randomly picked up off the street. the song is just typical love love peace peace, need i say more.

22. 🇮🇱 eddie butler - together we are one: i’m not entirely sure why but this performance gave me the creepiest vibes tbh. just another nothing song.

21. 🇮🇪 brian kennedy - every song is a cry for love: i love my country but, we don’t need ANOTHER bland ballad about love, especially one from a middle aged man.

20. 🇬🇧 daz sampson - teenage life: i mean the song isn’t actually THAT bad as i remembered, maybe a little cringy but as far as mid-00s pop-rap songs go it’s not the worst. i just cannot take daz fucking sampson seriously. and him looking like a drug dealer in that awful yellow tracksuit amongst a bunch of school girls is such a weird concept. (also the audacity of daz to shout “vote for the music” after this performance… but my thoughts on the UK’s attitude to eurovision is already well known if you’ve followed this blog for literally any amount of time)

19. 🇱🇹 lt united - we are the winners: i get it’s a joke entry but i can’t appreciate this one, i find i like joke entries that are a bit tongue in cheek, while this one is just so over the top it’s actually annoying to me. HOW is this lithuania’s best ever result…

18. 🇪🇸 las ketchup - un blodymary: the only reason this isn’t lower is because despite being a train wreck of a performance, it’s so bad that i actually enjoy it. the choreography with office chairs is 10/10. the fact that it’s the same band who just a few years prior had a massive worldwide hit makes it even better.

17. 🇸🇪 carola - invincible: i don’t think this aged very well at all, plus i guess christian schlager just isn’t my thing lol. i’m filing this under my list of reasons why former winners shouldn’t return to eurovision (unless you’re johnny logan).

16. 🇹🇷 sibel tüzün - süper star: i find the chorus of this song quite irritating, and her hair is pretty bad in this performance. usually i enjoy turkey’s entries (especially in the 00s) but this one didn’t connect with me.

15. 🇦🇲 andré - without your love: it’s okay, a little bit dated but that’s to be expected for a pop song, i guess. i like the ethnic elements. not a bad debut.

14. 🇷🇴 mihai trăistariu - tornerò: this is definitely one of the songs that has aged the worst, not just the music but also the costumes & styling. i do like the use of italian though, and it’s very catchy. i think maybe i’m biased because i’m not a big fan of the artist.

13. 🇲🇹 fabrizio faniello - i do: this one is also very dated but i find it to be in a charming way, vocals are a bit suspect, but i think he’s quite charismatic to make up for it.

12. 🇫🇷 virginie pouchain - il était temps: it’s a basic ballad, but enjoyable nonetheless. i think it stands out a bit from most of the other ballads this year, as i can’t understand the lyrics, so it’s better than literally all the ones with awful lyrics at the bottom of my ranking.

11. 🇺🇦 tina karol - show me your love: it’s pretty standard fare for ukraine in eurovision, a nice pop song with a very confident lady performing it. i like it, but not too much.

10. 🇩🇰 sidsel ben semmane - twist of love: this was quite fun, i thought the girl singing was cute & i liked how it was a throwback to the 50s.

9. 🇫🇮 lordi - hard rock hallelujah: this is actually one of my least favourite 21st century winners, but in a weak year it doesn’t end up ranking that low for me. i mean, even if i don’t love it, it’s very iconic. i get why it won in a 100% televoting era.

8. 🇲🇩 arsenium & natalia gordienko - loca: this song is 100% trash & i am 100% okay with letting you know it’s a BIG guilty pleasure of mine. i could do without natalia in literally underwear onstage, but they get extra points for the scooter. plus, i love natalia she is just a ball of energy.

7. 🇩🇪 texas lightning - no no never: this song makes me feel the embodiment of this: 🤠 germany was doing country before the netherlands decided it was cool.

6. 🇲🇰 elena risteska - ninanajna: macedonia gave me everything i could possibly want with this song, another guilty pleasure, but it’s so catchy & 00s, how could i not love it? also, this was their best result for SO LONG (until 2019), which makes me laugh. girlie was giving us all the dance moves.

5. 🇷🇺 dima bilan - never let you go: this song’s main selling point is that it is so much better than believe, but i’m not gonna lie, the mullet is dragging him down. the lady in the piano & his constant dance moves save him though.

4. 🇭🇷 severina - moja štikla: this is my favourite joke song in the history of eurovision simply because it makes no sense. and i love that for her ❤️ my biggest respect for doing all that dancing in that dress & heels. 💃🏻 how am i not gonna love a song with the lyrics “afrika paprika” ???

3. 🇳🇴 christine guldbrandsen - alvedansen: this song is so beautiful, & very distinctly norwegian. i love that they tied traditional ethnic elements into it. the staging is perfect as well, so striking.

2. 🇬🇷 anna vissi - everything: the legend herself, this song is literally everything to me. she’s alone on the stage but she fills it with her energy. the power she possesses ❤️ definitely one of my favourite host entries ever.

1. 🇧🇦 hari mata hari - lejla: this is in my top 3 favourite esc songs of all time, so no surprises. but getting to see it in HD tonight, made me cry. it’s the definition of perfect, but if i write too much about it now i’m gonna start crying again so i’ll stop.

How do you feel about Seungeun being on that girls planet show? I think it’s called.

I was looking forward to a comeback announcement and then this happened so we def won’t be getting a comeback anytime soon I think.

Which is so sad cause I feel like if they keep going instead of having long breaks in between comebacks they could really really gain more fans and such, cause they are so good.

initial thoughts and mnh’s statement

i wasn’t at all happy when i found out, of course. i’m the same as you: i kept thinking a comeback was coming. like when they got a reality show, and then again more recently when yiyeon, simyeong, and jungwoo all changed their hair… and then they give us this instead. i wonder why all the hair changes at once though if they’re not having a comeback… maybe they’re planning to promote as four for a while? though you’d think that would come after the survival ended, and they’d either start promoting without her if seungeun made it into the debut group, or finally come back as ot5 if she didn’t… i don’t know, who knows what mnh is planning.

here’s their statement for anyone who didn’t see it, but it’s pretty fucking vague:

i also totally agree with you there: the girls are sooo funny and talented, they have such good songs and choreo and chemi, and if only more people knew about them, i’m sure they would stan. :/ mnh could’ve at the very least let them release some digital singles in all this time… chungha’s releasing new music all the time; it’s really not fair. i also think they could take advantage of chungha’s clout and the girls' friendship a bit more: release a collab between them ffs! but alas, if mnh isn’t gonna promote the girls well, i guess us bulies will just have to do it ourselves 🙄

hopes and concerns

apparently it’ll be a temporary group, but 2.5 years is still a really long time. so my hope is for seungeun to make it as far into the competition as she can without making it into the debut group, or at least for her to be a fan favorite and give bvndit the exposure they need. bc if she gets eliminated right away, what was the point of all this, no one will have heard of them still and who knows what mnh will do with them. but ofc i don’t want to see her separated from bvndit and promoting with some other group for longer than bvndit themselves have been around. so, yeah. that’s the ideal very specific scenario i’m hoping for, lol.

i’m already worried she’s not gonna get the screen time she deserves and be eliminated early on though, bc after the o.o.o performance came out, firstly: she was only given one closeup (while some girls got several), and didn’t get to be one of the ending fairies, of which there were like 12. and secondly: all the comments under the video were either about yujin or bahiyyih. so ofc buls will be supporting her, but there’s not very many of us, and i even saw at least one person say they wouldn’t vote for her bc they want bvndit to have an ot5 comeback. but if girls planet doesn’t give the girls more exposure, what do you think will happen when seungeun gets eliminated? i don’t know, and i don’t rly want to find out… so since she’s not a popular pick going into the show, we can only hope that mnet gives her an adequate amount of screen time. bc i know everyone will fall for her if given the chance.

so anyway, as always i am nowhere near concise, and i applaud and apologize to anyone who actually read all of this alsdkf. i’m more determined than ever to promote bvndit well through my gifs, so in addition to giffing all of seungeun’s girls planet 999 stuff, i’m also trying to showcase bvndit’s humor, visuals, connection to chungha, etc. anything that might get people interested in, or at least remembering them.

i definitely think we should vote for seungeun on girls planet, at least at first. because otherwise, i don’t know if she’ll get far enough to make any kind of impact on bvndit’s career.

while we’re at the mercy of mnet and mnh, all we can really do is vote for seungeun, make comments under the girls planet videos she’s in supporting her and giving ppl the timestamp(s) of her screen time, just promoting her anywhere and everywhere we can. also be sure to send me your favorite bvndit moments and i’ll gif them to try to make more people fall for our girls. 🤧

[TRANS] Jeno’s interview with Grazia March 2020 issue!

It was your first photoshoot without the NCT DREAM members. I was really surprised when I first heard about it. Usually, when we're doing a shoot, even if we're not all together, at least a few of us will be there. So I was a bit worried about doing the shoot all alone. When I'm together with the other members, I'm able to be a bit freer and do more various poses. I was half-anticipating and half-worried because I had to do a well without making it seems like there was an empty space

It became a hot topic when you won NCT DREAM the gold medal by shooting a 10 pointer in the archery finals at ISAC that aired last year. It must have been a nerve-wracking but thrilling moment when there was only one arrow left, how did you feel? Since it was a tie until the end, my legs were trembling. I remember I had to shoot while I was very nervous. Also, I never mentioned this before, but it was a situation where my bow wasn't adjusted well so I couldn't aim right. That made me even more nervous, but luckily I scored 10 points. It was a very exciting moment for me and the members.

It seems like you've become the hero among the members since the contest, how is it (laughs)? Usually, Chenle isn't the type to be good at giving compliments. He would jokingly say you aren't doing well on purpose and there was something he told me that day after the game was over. He said, "you did kinda good today?". I felt strange that he acknowledged me for that day (laughs).

Are you the type of person who has always been athletic? I'm not born with it, but I do like to exercise and I'm very competitive. I participated with the mindset "let's win the gold medal since we're gonna be competing anyways". I think I was able to look forward to it, not because I was confident, but because I didn't know how well the other players would do.

I heard you achieved great results with the release of your first mini-album <The Dream> in Japan last month. NCT DREAM was the first group to top the Oricon Weekly Chart before their official debut. Actually, I was really worried when I heard that we would be releasing an album in Japan. We didn't have any Japanese songs nor did we have a Japanese version of existing songs. But still, our Japanese fans, Czennies, showed us so much love which I'm so grateful for.

It means that they waited as much as that for NCT DREAM The album received so much love even though it didn't contain a Japanese song. Thanks to that, I gained a lot of confidence for the promotions in Japan. In the meantime, every time we have an event or a concert in Japan, I'm able to have so much fun thanks to the support of the fans.

NCT DREAM is currently touring around Asia with their 'The Dream Show'. This kind of stage experience will help you to grow more, right? After being a trainee and debuting, I think my skills have gotten better and have improved through the concerts. So much that I cherish a concert or a big stage. Not only do we not have many chances to meet fans from all over the world, but it's also a rare experience to meet so many fans in one place. So much that every single moment is very precious to me.

Compared to when you just debuted, what made you feel like "nonetheless, I've grown"? First of all, my appearance has changed (laughs). It seems like the freshness we had during our debut days has disappeared. I feel more mature now that I've lost a lot of baby fat, and as we've continuously done promotions I've definitely improved on stage and live performance.

There are many unexpected things that can happen during a concert. Is there something that left a memorable scene? Usually, when you hear the thoughts from the sunbaes of their performance after the concert, you will feel touched or it will make you feel like crying. But for me, it was like that from the start of the concert. During the opening, I had shivers all over and I was overwhelmed with emotion. I was so moved that thousands of fans gathered just to see us. Even now, when I think about it, I still get goosebumps.

What is your role on stage? Power. I'm mainly responsible for using my body during a performance, so I focus on that powerful feeling.

What do you consider to be the most important thing when you are on stage? When I dance, I think expressing the texture of the song is very important. When I sing live, I try to make the scene more dramatic.

What kind of type are you on stage? I wonder if you're the type to do what was practiced or to improvise to match the mood of the day. I'm the type to improvise during rehearsals, and if it turns out okay, I will do it on the stage. When there's no reaction, I will just improvise on the spot. And rather, when things are set, I tend to forget them when I'm on stage. I think it will turn out better if I just follow my body.

All the members have seen each other grown-up together. I think you might be sharing a more special bond than just colleagues, when do you feel that? I feel that when we say "you've worked hard. thank you" after a show to each other. It's kinda embarrassing to say but those words have meaning to them. It had this fresh feeling when Haechan said "thank you everyone, you've done well" after a concert in Japan.

If you could have one of the many talents the members have, what would you most like to have? I would want the eyes of the members with good eyesight (laughs). Due to my poor vision, it's been kinda inconvenient these days. When we're on stage, I'm envious of those members that can wear color or circle lenses to match the concept.

So what is something of Jeno, that you would never want to lose? My eye-smile (laughs)? I don't want to lose my eye-smile.

What is NCT DREAM to Jeno? Even though we're colleagues, we're now past that and it feels like they are my neighborhood best friends. Because we've known each other since we were young, we know a lot about each other and we have a lot of things in common. So it's really fun to be with the members. Actually, during the shoot today I was thinking about the members too. It was great to have a solo shoot, but at the same time, it felt empty because I was alone.

How do you spend your time when there's no schedule? I really like movies and dramas, so I watch the ones I wasn't able to see yet. On the other hand, I like to exercise and ride a bicycle.

Is there anything new that has caught your interest recently? One of my goals for this year is to read more. Actually, I didn't feel the importance of reading until recently, but when I turned 21, I thought I should read more. I thought I need to read rather than starting at my phone while we're on the road, but even though it's almost March, I haven't started reading yet (laughs).

What would you want to show if you had the chance to take a vlog of Jeno's daily life? This is something I've wanted to do before, but when I get a driver's license, I want to film a vlog of me driving to the sea. I think it would look great in the autumn when there is a sunset.

So all you have to do is getting your driver's license first. You picked getting your license as an item on your bucket list this year, how are you progressing? It's not possible at the moment (laughs). Even if I get my driver's license, I'm worried I won't have many chances to drive. I want to get a license but it would be hard to find the time to drive, so I don't think it's something I should be doing soon.

Where does your happiness come from? Have you thought about it? Whenever I receive support and cheer from my fans I would think, 'am I worthy of being cheered for like this?'. At the same time, I feel like I'm in a really good place. I think I have to work harder to be deserving of the support I receive. When I do something and get a sense of accomplishment, I tend to feel a lot of joy. That's what this job is for me. I really like what I'm doing now because I can achieve as much as I tried for it.

It's already been two months since this new year started. How do you plan to spend the rest of 2020? I think this year will pass by really fast since these two months passed really quickly too. Personally, I hope this year marks the end of my growth. I want to make it a time to show a teenager turning into a fully grown adult.

Jelly - CAI XUKUN One Shot

[a/n: i miss cai xukun pls try not to cringe too hard at my oneshot] / master list

You sigh, stepping into the same place where it all started two years ago.

You still remember the first day of it all. When a hundred boys all hustled and bustled, struggling to find the correct dorms and get all of their things up the stairs in one trip. You remember how loud they all were, all excited and beaming and so ready for what was to come in the next months.

You remember the auditions, the eliminations, the hours of hard work, the laughter, the cheers, the tears and the heartbreak.

But above all, you remember one particular boy.

You don’t know how the two of you got close. You were just another staff member in charge of interviews and he was just another contestant on the show.

Well, to say that he was just “another contestant” would be an understatement.

Cai Xukun - the golden boy of Idol Producer season one. The boy who had the world in the palm of his hand from his first steps on stage.

You were close to many of the contestants. A lot of the boys knew you because you would walk around handing out snacks after the Yanchen incident to make sure they would at least eat something - even if it was just a simple pack of jellies.

You two always met like this - him sitting on the floor writing lyrics and you squatting in front of him with a packet of jellies waving in front of his face. He’d always have the same soft smile on his face as he would look up and whisper, “Hey Jelly.”

The first time he called you Jelly, it made you scrunch your nose up in confusion. You remember him motioning to the candies and the laughter that followed after. Since that day, he’d always refer to you as Jelly. You remember how the name would slip from his lips as he talked with other trainees and the slight tinge of annoyance that would cross his face whenever someone else would try to use the pet name. It eventually became a name that only he would use. You couldn’t even think about jellied candies anymore without his smile crossing your mind as well.

As the show ended and his (much predicted) debut took place, you quietly went back to Korea for work but kept in touch.

You couldn’t deny that there was something there. With the random stolen kisses every time you visited or the nights that ended with cuddles and pillow talk. But you knew that Xukun had bigger things to worry about and so did you. Your careers came first. But that didn’t stop you two from meeting up when you’d come to China or he’d come to Korea.

Though there were no labels, you still felt guilty going out with others and hadn’t even thought of kissing anyone besides him ever since the two of you met.

You still hadn’t told him that you were back to work on the newest version of Produce with him. You walked down the familiar halls and into the interview room when you saw him. He was already getting ready alongside Lisa.

You had to admit, your smile dropped just a bit as you watched the two interact. It had been months since the last time you and Xukun talked because of your busy schedules but did you really have room to say anything? You two were nothing official. It was like an unspoken rule between the two of you that there were no labels.

You silently worked in the background, buzzing around when you heard their laughter getting louder.

Stop it, you told yourself.

“Okay, let’s get everything in place!” the director shouted. “Xukun, Lisa! Places please!”

You took your place this time to jot down everything they said. During season one, you’d be the one to ask the questions but you decided that you weren’t really in the state of mind to talk.

You’re writing furiously - Xukun is rambling about some memory he had from season one. You want to smile at the thoughts of you teasing him late at night for going on and on about something so simple. You’re almost too lost in thought that you don’t realize he’s stopped talking until you hear him sharply intake.

“Jelly?” he whispers.

You look up slowly and clear your throat. “Xukun,” you nod. “The interview.”

He shakes his head instantly and goes back to what he was saying. You don’t comment on the cramp developing in your hand from how fast you’re writing due to his increased pace. You know he’s trying to get the interview over with as quickly as possible. You glance up at some point and see the confused look on Lisa’s face as well. You decide not to look up again for the rest of the interview.

As soon as the director calls cut, Xukun and Lisa are forced to move to the next set for filming. You hear him protest. He’s saying he forgot something but they tell him he can come back for it. After all, he’ll be here all day. You don’t look up from your notes until you hear his voice fading along with his footsteps.

You go about the day, interviewing the girls and doing your best to keep up. You almost forgot how hectic it was. Flashes of season one cross your mind as you think of flirty Lin Yanjun and the trouble making Qin boys. You think of the time Linong cried over his ranking and when Zhou Rui screamed as he moved up classes. How times have changed since then.

It’s during lunch that you finally catch a break.

You’re sitting on the steps, looking down on your phone when you hear it — the crinkle of plastic and the figure of someone squatting down in front of you.

“Hey Jelly,” he whispers. You slowly look up at him, your words getting caught in your throat. After all these years, Xukun still looks as ethreal as ever. “You didn’t tell me you were coming.” Yeah, I didn’t. Because you wanted it to be a surprise but now you’re thinking about how stupid you looked for trying to surprise someone who probably didn’t even care in the first place. You stare at him for a second before you sigh and stand up. You try to walk away when he catches your arm and spins you around, frowing. “Why are you pouting?” he asks. “I’ve missed you and you’re acting like this.”

“Xukun, I-“

“Come,” he says, moving his hand down to hold yours. “Before a camera catches us.”

Your heart cracks again at that because it reminds you that no matter how many times you wake up next to him, no matter how many kisses you steal, no matter how much you fantasize about it, the two of you will never be.

You’re not Lisa. You’re not an idol. You’re a nobody. Xukun has a reputation to uphold.

“Kun,” you mutter, slipping your hand out of his. “I-I-“

“What?” he frowns. “Did you not miss me?”

“Xukun, I-I can’t do this.”

“Do what?”

“This,” you gesture, letting go of his hand. “The sneaking around, the whispered conversations, the late nights and early goodbyes, never knowing when’s the next time I’m gonna see you, going months without speaking. Aren’t you tired of this?” you ask. “Aren’t you tired of wasting each other’s time?”

He stands there, face unreadable and for a moment, you almost think he’s going to leave.

So when he breaks into a smile and cups your cheek, you jump in surprise.

“Jelly,” he smiles, bending down to be level with you. “Is that what you think I am? A waste of your time?” Your frown becomes deeper. Is he really making fun of me right now? He chuckles. “Jelly,” he says again, waiting for you to meet his eyes. “Remember what I said to you? The night I debuted?”

Honestly, you don’t remember a lot of what happened that night. The entire production team had been so busy and you remember that as soon as it ended, bottles were being popped and you didn’t even get to do Xukun’s final interview as Jieqiong and Cheng Xiao whisked you away to have a drink with them.

But at his words, a sudden blur of the two of you standing in front of the dorms play out as he beings to speak.

“I did it, Jelly. I debuted. And like you, my career is always going to come first. But I want you to know now that I like you. A lot. So if there is any chance of us having a future together, I’ll take it. I’ll take you in any form that you’ll give me.”

You blush, turning your head away from him and huffing.

“I don’t mean to waste your time, love,” he says. “So if you want me to give up music-“

“Don’t,” you immediately cut him off, huffing at how dramatic he can be sometimes. He laughs at this. Cute, he thinks.

“Jelly, I haven’t been able to call but that doesn’t mean I don’t think of you every night. It’s been a month-“

“It’s been two-“

“It’s been one month, three weeks, and two days since the last time we’ve spoken,” he states a matter of factly. “And I’m sorry about that. I really am. I’ve been so busy lately.” You still look up at him, pouting. He sighs. “How do you want me to make it up to you? Hm?” You’re not sure. In fact, you were slowly beginning to forget why you were upset in the first place as the his smell becomings intoxicating to you. It was one of the things you always hated about him. It’s like he knew he had a spell over you that prevented you from being mad at him for too long. “C’mon, Jelly. I can only say sorry in so many ways.”

“Oh!” a voice says, startling you. You try to pull away but Xukun wraps an arm around your shoulders. “Hey, Xukun!”

“Hey Lisa,” he smiles.

“Is this her?” she excitedly points at you. “YN?” He nods proudly, tightening his grip on you. “Hi!” Lisa waves, grinning. “I’m Lisa! I’ve heard so much about you. Me and Xukun have been walking around all day and every corner has a memory of Jelly this or Jelly that. I was getting worried he might have been making you up until he showed me your pictures together!”

“Our pictures?” you look up at him.

“Ah! You’re so lucky!” Lisa gushes. “If I had someone in love with me as Xukun-“

Xukun clears his throat loudly. “Uh, right! Well, Lisa. I’m gonna take Jelly over here to grab something from the store. See you in like thirty minutes?”

With that, he quickly hauls you out the door and into the biting cold.

“In love with me, huh?” you knock into his side, teasing. Xukun blushes. “Cai Xukun, how are you going to tell Lisa that you love me way before you tell me that you love me?”

“I tell you I love you all the time,” he groans. “Don’t you see my posts where I write ‘I love Jelly’ or stuff like that?”

“How could I have possibly known those were about me? If anything, I would’ve thought they were about the actual candies.” you snort.

He stops suddenly. It’s so cold outside that you could see his breath coming out in little steaming clouds. He brings your hands into his and shakes his head. “I love you, YN. Okay? And I have loved you since the day we met. I know you think this is a waste of time but I thought that if we didn’t have labels that it would hurt you less. But for me, it’s always been you. It’s always going to be you. And I love you, YN.”

“I love you too, Xukun.”

He swoops down, pressing his lips against yours. You smile into the kiss before quickly remembering where you were.

“Xukun. Someone is gonna see us-“

“I don’t care,” he says. “I don’t want to waste your time anymore.”

You scrunch your nose, patting his chest. “Ew. When did you get so sweet like this?”

He scoffs, “I was trying to make a cute scene for you, Jelly!”

You playfully push him. “You don’t have to risk it all for me.”

“For you, I’d risk it all.”

Road to Kingdom Episode 1 Thoughts

After watching the first episode of RtK I can confidently say Mnet is trash. Piece of shit company. Fucking horrible. Anyways now that that’s aside, onto the evaluation of the groups, who did not do anything to deserve a stupid show with eliminations. I really enjoyed all their interactions. I have to say Jangjun really stole the show this episode, and I think he will continue to steal the show with his personality and talent. In terms of how they introduced the groups, I have to give props to Mnet (ew). The phone call/KKT idea was very nice and allowed for some big brain deductions from all the groups.

Now onto the performances. I really enjoyed all of them! But as a first stage to RtK, a show where groups are supposed to experiment and show things that are different from a typical comeback, I have to say some groups did not step past that boundary. I don’t know if it’s because they wanted to play it safe for the first episode knowing there could be eliminations or if it was a company decision.

Purely based off of enjoyment, my rankings go like this:

The Boyz

VeriVery

Golden Child

Pentagon

Oneus

ONF

TOO

However, if I were to rank them objectively with the criteria of experimentation, overall performance, and creativity, the list goes like this:

The Boyz (I swear I’m not biased xkdjfhkjdhf they really went beyond my expectations for this performance)

VeriVery

Golden Child

Oneus

ONF

GolCha and VeriVery are basically tied, but the introduction to VeriVery’s performance takes the cake and makes them place higher. When Pentagon explained that they based their performance off their journey as a group and how they really focused on the camera angles I was so impressed. Truly a legendary group.

All 7 groups did really well! Last place does not mean they did bad! Every single group was extremely talented, even the newly debuted TOO.

Some complaints I have revolve around screen time (and ofc the elimination thing but you already know that haha). Though I am Sunwoo biased, I can fullheartedly say I did not like that he got so much screen time. I literally don’t remember ever getting a nice close shot of Kevin or Chanhee. I bet the people who stan any of the other groups can agree. The same goes with Jangjun. Though he is MC king, I wish they showed more of the other GolCha members, especially since I do not know most of the other groups. I doubt Mnet will change this because they are known for unfair screen time but a girl can dream right?

I really like the format of the next competition and I agree that it really suits the show’s theme. Overall, I actually hope Pentagon come in first. They really deserve it after all they’ve been through. Side note I still really miss Yanan. Hopefully both TBZ and Pentagon can win, seeing as there are two groups that can possibly win, however, I have a feeling that there might only be one winner as results will most likely be a popularity contest. If any of you have read this far, feel free to tell me what you thought of the show too!

Anyways! Can’t wait for the next episode. If Eric is crying for shitty reasons I will personally fly to Korea and eat Mnet.

debut announcement | fd pt3

what: akira finds out he’d debuting when: january 18, 2021 wc: 655

the moment he walked into the room and sat down with the other future dream contestants, it was a conscious effort to keep his leg from anxiously bouncing and fidgeting in his seat to a minimum. it wasn’t that akira necessarily felt like there was a strong reason for him to be this nervous about the formal evaluations, but there was just this gut feeling that something wasn’t going to go as he anticipated it to.

when they announced that team two was one of the teams that impressed them the most, it helped to ease his nerves, bring him back from the edge some. on top of that initial ease, also being told that team two were dubbed as the winners for the mission even dared bring feelings of joy to the surface to sit alongside his anxiety. the necklace was cute, akira noted that he’d have to send a photo to his mom and dad and tell them how everything went with the evaluation.

what raised his anxiety up again was the requirements for the red gem. the panel of judges had already brought up his lack of singing improvement in his time with the company, something he had since then taken more seriously in improving, but still it worried him that looking over the sills would end up hurting him more than anything. along with seeing two of the boys being eliminated. that could have easily been him, he reminded himself.

the unexpected started when three members of type zero were called out after it being mentioned that not all of the boxes contained a gem, but instead seeing a pendant sitting in the boxes of the three. it was shocking to hear that type zero was going to be officially debuted. the boys deserved it, he had known them all to be hard-working for a long period of time for this. he was happy for the three of them.

akira thought that had to be the last part of this evaluation. it was strange that only three members would debut in type zero but there were smaller groups, it wasn’t entirely unheard of. the nervous feeling returned the moment he heard the words “joining them.” it made sense, he should have guessed there were others to fill out the group, but the last thing he was expecting was for his name to be the second called out out of the list of five joining members.

he froze initially, as if waiting for someone to yell sike and reveal a cruel prank, but no one did. next came the tears gathering, and he had to blink a few times to keep them at bay for now, but it was hard not to be emotional. he’d waited so long for this opportunity. akira didn’t move much until he was being told to open his box and reveal a pendent of his own sitting there.

when it was his turn to speak about this world altering news, he didn’t know what to say, honestly. akira started off with the basics, “i just want to say thank you to all of you for deciding to give me this opportunity,” he spoke to the judges, “i promise to give nothing but my all as a member of type zero.” the smile had slowly returned to his face. “i...i don’t know what else to say other than thank you, and i’ve waited a long time for this chance, and i couldn’t be more excited and appreciative!”

the tears were only allowed to build up once more after evaluation, when he got to call his mother and father back in osaka, sitting in an empty hallway in the legacy building, holding his necklace and pendent in hand as he waited for for them to answer the facetime, gently buzzing with excitement at the chance to tell them both that everything he had worked towards was coming true.
