TOP 5 “EZIO’S FAMILY” VERSIONS + TOP 5 TRACKS
Reviving this list from @thatcrazycrowgirl because AC OSTs need love.
Ezio’s Family - Favorite Versions:
Main Theme (AC Rogue) I'm a sucker for traditional Irish instrumentals, and you can feel the adventure of the North Atlantic through it. It doesn't just convey Shay's sense of freedom, but his will to fight against great odds and tragedy (and the cold). The way it builds up, then when the beat drops, it explodes into the Irish whistle, backed up by a drumbeat that sounds like both a heartbeat and the beating of your oars against the waves -- and then, as it ends, the music disperses into what sounds like a migratory flock of birds flying overhead.

2. Ezio's Family (Origins Version) (AC Origins)
It's a really tired but determined version of this song. You can feel how the chasm between Aya and Bayek is only as deep as their love. The things that bring them together are the same things that separate them: Their love for Khemu, the common folk, and Egypt. AC Origins is so perfect because it conveys the thing we love about the franchise the most: The ability to feel the will of the people reaching out from thousands of years away. This is the sound of hope. I am constantly mentally reliving the scene when the chorus plays for the first time in the game (notice how on the title screen, they always fade out the tune before the chorus actually drops, so they tease you with the signature beginning of Ezio's Family, but only the beginning):
"Good Bayek of Siwa. What are you of now?" "A new creed. Ours is finished."
Tumblr media
3. The Flight (AC Odyssey)
Just like Legend of the Eagle Bearer, you can feel the literal odyssey in it. You feel the tides under your ship. Also, those vocals? Fucking fantastic. I thought I was done with Ezio's Family remakes when Odyssey came out, but then I actually listened to it. Oof. Amazing.
Tumblr media
4. Main Theme (AC Chronicles: India)
I'm a sucker for strings. Like, this is why I love Shao Jun's version, but I've spent my whole life listening to pipa and gu zheng strings, ykyk, so I love it a lot, but AC India gives me just the right amount of familiarity in terms of string instrumentals while giving me the sense of a completely different world. It's the novelty for me. It's also just super chill and puts me in a good headspace, while still ending on an exciting, high note. There's also a tempo at the beginning where I feel like I'm listening to a clock tick.
(Oof, there's no gif for him. Sadge.)
Tumblr media
5. Earth (AC 2)
Yo, when I tell you that the first time I played AC 2 and Ezio put on his father's Assassin's robes, and this played, I lost my goddamned MIND. I used to listen to this song, Ezio's Family, and Venice Rooftops one after the other like they were all one really long song, on loop, to get myself to fall asleep. I feel like I'm leaping from rooftop to rooftop, until I've achieved full flight. Ugh. Just. Perfection.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Somewhere between AC Unity and AC Syndicate versions, because hot DAMN, you really feel the beat of their cities in them.
Additional Favorite Tracks (in no particular order):
I Walk on Your Water (AC Origins) Bro, the first time I heard this when AC Origins came out and I was playing the soundtrack while I cooked, hearing this song was like a religious experience. And when the scene where Layla first experiences Aya's memories and says the line herself -- breathless, exalted -- was like the Second Coming.
Tumblr media
2. Fight Club (AC III)
RATOHNHAKÉ:TON MY BELOVED. Yo, when I tell you I was in love with this game and its music and main character YEARS before I even touched ACIII, I am not fucking kidding. I listened to this shit on repeat. It pumps me up like nothing else. It motivates me at work, when I'm writing, and when I'm training. This song is the shit. AND FUCK YEAH I LINKED YOU TO THE EXTENDED VERSION WHAT OF IT. It's high-energy and determined and FUN. It's like a really nice round of sparring where you beat the shit out of your opponent but you're both happy about it.
Tumblr media
3. Committee of One (AC Unity)
Yo, when I started stalking the King of Thieves and this beat dropped, I knew this was gonna be a good fucking game. I felt the thrill and danger, but I also felt unstoppable. I was fully immersed in Arno strolling into the den of the rats, not to mention how the Unity version of Ezio's Family starts playing once you've killed the King and escape. I ran into Templar thugs on the street on purpose just to hear this while they chased me. That abyssal heartbeat (AC Unity soundtrack has a living, breathing pulse) that falls into the familiar strains of that violin, followed by that harpsichord? Chef's fucking kiss.
Tumblr media
4. Legend of the Eagle Bearer (AC Odyssey)
You can feel the waves under your oars! You can hear the sun rise over the horizon as the water changes colors! You can hear the relentless drive of your rowers as dawn breaks and the early-morning silence slowly dwindles down. And when you break into a full flight, it feels like you've gone wild, on the chase.
Tumblr media
5. City of Rome (AC Brotherhood)
Oldie but goodie. It's so calm and inviting, but promises you adventure. You really feel like you've stepped into a city that's already ancient, but has so much to offer.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Master Assassin from AC Brotherhood and Parting Glass, Anne Bonny in Black Flag version.
I am tagging @sprawca @especiallyhaytham @teecupangel @canonless5 @starpineninja but no pressure to do it! If I didn't tag you but you're also a trash Assassin's Creed aficionado, feel free to join in!

The Punk and the Wolf
(Previous chapter, Part 7, Next chapter)
Remus Lupin x Male Reader
Summary: Set during OFTP, Y/N is Mad Eye Moody's assistant and while staying at Grimmauld place, him and Remus develop a connection.
Warning: 18+ ONLY - Long chapter but with smut at the end (finally!)
    ------------------------------------
With all the students back from Hogwarts for the winter break Grimmauld place felt full to the brim. It was often hard to find a room or even a moment to yourself. All the distress of what was happening at Hogwarts as well as Arthur's brutal attack, everyone was on edge but by collectively being together all this tension bloomed into a giddy sense of excitement for the festivities to come. No one wanted to spoil the few moments of peace they had.
It had taken Remus several days to fully recover from his recent transformation, he remained in his bed for two days straight with Molly and Sirius bringing him his meals, though he couldn't eat much. On the third day Remus was slowly moving around his room when he heard a knocked on his closed door. Gingerly he opened the door and leaned out into the hallway. It was empty. It wasn't until the tall man eventually looked down that he saw a mug of tea sitting perfectly in the centre of the hallway carpet, placed in the middle of the decorative flower pattern. Steam gently flouting up into the air. Resting against the mug was the battered copy of The Odyssey. Y/N. Remus fondly rubbed his thumb over the books spine as he picked it and the mug of hot tea up. Upon opening the book he found a new note has been scrawled out on his bookmark.
"Get well soon so we can finish this book together :) - Y/N"
Being the evening Remus knew that Y/N would not be back until early next morning. Resting his fragile frame back onto the bed Remus placed the book to his chest. Closing his eyes he thought back to waking up on top of Y/N after his transformation, once the initial panic had subsided feeling Y/N that close to him felt incredible. Remus started to imagine how it would feel if I'm this moment Y/N was the one on top of him, resting his handsome head of Y/H/C locks against the crook of his neck. Remus felt so comforted by this thought he pushed through his pains and fell asleep.
Remus was woken up abruptly the next morning by cheers and laughter, he turned and looked at his clock. 11:45am, 25th December. Everyone must be starting to celebrate, he thought promptly getting up and dressed. The source of the loud cries of excitement was coming from the living room, peering through the doorway Remus could see the younger students exchanging and opening presents while Fred and George were casting little clouds of snow above them, gliding around the chandelier. Mad Eye Moody and Y/N were nowhere not present. Remus desperately hoped they hadn't already left for a mission. It was lovely seeing the teens all being allowed be just be teenagers for the time being and forget the foreboding challenges which were to come. A conversation further down the hallway caught Remus' attention and he turned to see Molly and Sirius.
"I've been kicked out of my own kitchen" Molly said raising her hands up on a huff. "Technically it's my kitchen" Sirius jested, "oh, like you spend any time in it anyway!". Approaching the others Remus tilted his head to the side in confusion. "Y/N has taken over all the cooking. Told me I've been working too much anyway and I should rest", this was true, with Arthur to take care of on top of everything else Molly was running herself thin. Placing a reassuring hand onto her shoulder Remus began to slowly open the kitchen door. Rock music bleeded out into the hallway and grew louder as Remus entered the kitchen and closed the door behind him.
"Molly I told you! If you come back and try and help I'm burning the turkey on purpose!" Y/N's back was to Remus as he was stirring a pan full of onions and garlic, the smell flouted towards the werewolves sensitive nose. Smelled fantastic. Y/N was tapping his boots in time to the music and swaying his hips, the charms which were tied into his belt loops jingled as he moved. This charming sight caused  Remus' lips to curl upwards as he observed the small energetic punks dancing. Out of the corner of Y/N's eye he noticed a presence looming over him and swiftly turned around, his hair and dangerly earrings swinging around. "Oh, it's you!" Y/N matches Remus' grin once he realised it was him.
"It's good to see you up again" despite being happy to see Remus, Y/N avoided eye contact, there was a level of bashful awkwardness between the two men. "I hope Molly isn't too upset I took over" Y/N carrier on with a nervous chuckle "everyone's been doing so much for The Order I just felt like it was only far to give them a day off, everyone's so exhausted. And what about you? when was the last time you ate?" he asked looking into Remus' eyes kindly. "When was the last time you ate?" Remus retorted back, he was constantly amazed by Y/N's compassion, "I bet you came back with Moody and began helping in here straight away". Y/N smirked and looked to the floor, this meant a yes in Remus' mind.
At this point the oven timer started to ping and Y/N turned around to pull a tray out. "Believe it or not I'm actually a really good cook, it's just ..." Y/N hovered, tray in hand trying to find a clear kitchen surface to place it on. Every counter top of littered with mixing bowls, baking trays and half cut vegetables. "It's just I'm quiet a messy cook" and saying so Y/N placed the hot tray on top of another on the hob. Remus couldn't help but laugh at this spectical, "Well if your insisting on cooking, can I at least help you clean up as you go?". Y/N looked up from a mixing bowl he had started stirring, somehow he'd already managed to get cake mixture over his cheek "that would be perfect Remus". Hearing this made Remus feel warm inside and he got to work taking the dirty kitchen equipment to the sink and rolling up his cardigan sleeves.
In no time the kitchen was in a much more respectable state and gorgeous smells of roasted vegetables and rich gravy was filling the whole house. Once Remus had finished all the washing up Y/N brought him over and showed him how to make the stuffing and crimp the pastry of the pies, holding the taller man's upper arms in his hands to guide him. Once the table was set and everyone was invited in the room filled with excited gasps. Despite being a large room all the seats were packed closely next to one another. Y/N and Remus shared one end of the table together, their knees brushing up against one another every now and then.
"Everything tastes so wonderful. Thank you for cooking all of this Mrs Weasely" Hermione said. "Well actually I believe it was Remus and Y/N who cooked everything together" Sirius smuggly pointed out with empathise on the word 'together'. This resulted in Remus coughing up his wine he'd been drinking and Y/N stopped mid way through placing his fork full of roast potoes into his mouth and he stares mouth gaping at everyone staring in their direction. "So why don't we rise a toast to them" Sirius encouraged lifting up his own glass. "To Remus and Y/N" everyone cheered and the Weasely twins started to skincker and wiggle their eyebrows in Y/N's direction. With expert aim Y/N flicked his fork and shot his forkfull of potoes just shy of George's left ear. Through his poliet smile Remus stared daggers down the table at Sirius who just beamed back. Christ pads is loving this.
After the meal Remus and Sirius stepped outside for a smoke and to reminisce pasted holidays they had spent with Lily and James. They both raised a cigarette each to their dear friends, wishing they could be here. Everything was quiet in the dinning room once Remus had returned, he could hear chatter coming from the living room so he made his way into the hallway. Though he spotted promptly under the stairs as he heard voices above him. Almost instantly he picked up Y/N voice and soon after George and Fred's voices were clear to him, all three were talking in a hushed tone. "I hope you know I didn't tell either of you not because I didn't trust you, I was just worried you'd have thought I bestrayed The Order. I just didn't want to let anyone else down". "Y/N don't talk a load of rubbish" Fred said "Your our mate and we know you've always got our back as much as we've got yours". "Exactly" George followed with "We understand it must have been hard to tell us so thank you mate, really". Remus stayed very quiet just under them and smiled to himself, Y/N must be telling them about his mark, he was so proud of Y/N. "Speaking of keeping secrets, when are you going to make a move on Professor Lupin?" Fred asked slyly. "Oh shut up" Y/N said flusteredly which made the twins laugh, "so you haven't made a move yet" George teased. Remus learned in closer awaiting Y/N's response. "It's not that simple guys" Y/N finally said "he's amazing, truly incredible. I've never met a man quiet like him. I just .. I don't know if he feels the exact same way". Remus had to fight against his legs to not stride out Infront of the three boys and tell Y/N how much he wanted to hold him close and kiss him. He felt so foolish for not being more clear with his feelings.
At this very moment the living room door which joined into the hallway opened brisky and Moody and Sirius were standing in it. From their perspective they could clearly see Remus hunched just under the other three on the staircase and Remus had a panic look of being caught in the act. "Remus, are you alright?" Sirius asked confused, this caused the banister above the tall man to creak and peering up Remus saw Fred, George and of course Y/N leaning over and realising he had been there the whole time. Like the other Y/N's face was painted with confusion and then pure embarrassment. "Y/N we have to go" Moody said bluntly, ignoring the situation and walking towards the front door, with out question Y/N followed him. Just before Y/N exited the front door he turned back and looked at Remus, clearly wanting to talk but in the end offered a weak smile before disappearing into the night.
Sirius had needed Remus for a task himself. There were a couple of known werewolves in the outskirts of London who had not been hunted down by the dark lord. Sirius asked Remus to meet with them and try and swade them to join The Order, despite his downfall in social skills their clear nocturnal connection made Remus the best person for the task which he agreed to. Finally he got to experience what Y/N and Moody has been doing almost every night, leaving everyone to go off into the night and work while the rest of the city slept. Remus didn't return back to Grimmauld place until two in the morning, it was a productive night but Remus was exhausted, all he wanted right now was his bed.
Remus was taken aback when once he entered though the front door he was meet with a number of concerned faces. Even Fred and George were still up, along with Sirius, Moody, Molly and Arthur all now looking at Remus with a mixture of pain and worry. "What's going on?" Remus inquiried. No one said anything for a moment which put Remus on edge as he stiffened in the doorway. "Everything is fine now, its just" Sirius began slowly "it's just while Moody and Y/N were out on their patrol". At this moment Moody interrupted " We were out on the north side of the city when that bastard of a step brother of the wee lads ambushed us with a bunch of bleeding dementors" it was at this point that Remus noticed that Moody had a few bandages around his hand and across his cheek. "We're fine now its just .. Y/N's broom got hit and he fell" before Moody could finish Remus ran towards the living room door and swung it open.
A fire was lit in the dark room, dancing across the walls and illuminated the sofa were Remus' eye fell upon. Curled up on one side of the sofa was Y/N, motionless and eyes closed, even from this far away Remus could see the nemorous amount of cuts and bruises across Y/Ns body. One large cut over his forehead and cutting into his eyebrow, noticeably causing pain even with his eyes closed. Remus breathing quickened and he could feel the prick of tears building up in his eyes.
'Its rude to stare moones" came a soft voice from the sofa, still with his eyes closed Y/N shifted and groans in pain. Leaving the doorway and the others behind him Remus came towards Y/N lowering himself down onto his knee. Y/N's right eye was dark and bruised and only half opent looking up at Remus "it looks worse then it is" he said through a chuckle which then turned into a low groan of pain "honestly you should have seen what the oth-" but before Y/N could finish his qwip Remus cupped the man's cheeks into his big hands and pulled him to his lips. Y/N's eyebrows raised in shock but he did not resist and instead sunk into the deep kiss with him. Finally they parted lips "I care about you so much Y/N" Remus said breathlessly, keeping his hands on Y/Ns cheeks rubbing his thumb up and down his soft skin. Y/N simple smiled back at Remus lovingly. Soft chuckles as approval could be heard from the hallway along with a union cry of "Finally!" coming from Fred and George.
Eventually the others went to bed, giving the two men some space. Remus stayed by Y/N's side craddeling his head in one hand and gently brushing his hair with his fingers. Talking quietly and intimatly between one another by the fire for sometime both still beaming from the kiss they had spared. After an hour they fell into a silence, looking down they could see their fingers tips were rubbing against one anothers, almost interlocking but not quiet. Remus needed Y/N to be as close to him as possible.
"May I take you up to my room?" Remus finally whispered, their fingers were fully entangled in one another's now "I feel like you deserve a proper bed tonight" Remus' gaze met Y/N's, the reflection of the fire dancing in both their eyes. They both knew what he was asking and in this look between them they both knew they wanted the same thing. Staying fixed in Remus' stare Y/N simply nodded. Their faces were almost touching, Remus' thick moustache brushing against Y/N own stubbled jaw.
Draping Y/N's arm over his hunched shoulders Remus was able to lift him up from the sofa with ease and aid him out of the room and up the stairs. With their height difference Y/Ns feet barely touched the ground and instead he settled to resting on top of Remus' own shoes. Y/N suddenly felt so small in Remus' arms and this made him blush, Y/N was steading himself by wrapping one of his arms around Remus' waist and his fingers pressed into his chest, Y/N could feel the older man's breathing in and out.
They made it to Remus' room, entering the dark room Remus carefully helped Y/N sit down on the bed before walking to the other side and switching on the bedside lamp. A dim orange glow spreads around the bed, keeping them out of shadow and creating a rose tint effect. Remus sat across from Y/N and then briskly moved closer until he was pressed up against Y/N but then he stopped. He had wanted to do this for so long, Remus was scared of making a mistake or rushing, he wanted Y/N to be fully comfortable. However before Remus could make any more calculated thoughts Y/N pulled him into a long deep kiss, causing both their chests to rise up and press against each other. A fluttering feeling builds up on both their stomachs, they feel perfect together. Remus' hands held on tightly to Y/N's shoulders as their mouths opened and their tounges met. Dancing over one another elegantly at first and then more quickened and passionate. When they separated to catch their breath Y/N let out a weak moan and Remus bit down on his own lip hard.
"Y/N" Remus panted trying to keep his composure "I know both our lives have barriers which make us not want to get close to people but when I look at you ... there is no one id rather have by my side and I'd be honoured if I could be by yours as well.. if you want that of course". Taking a moment Y/N looked down at his marked arm, it was so hard for him to let people in, and yet when he looked up into Remus' worn and caring face all those worries slipped away. "Yes" Y/N said with a smile which was met with Remus' own lips again as the taller man pushed his weight over Y/N causing him to fall back onto the bed.
Locking their hands together Remus gently lifted Y/N's arms above his head and Y/N lifted up his boots and wrapped them around Remus' waist. Their groins pushed against each other and both men could feel how hard the other one was getting. Y/N removed Remus' cardigan and swiftly pulled off his own shirt showing off his fluffy chest. Remus was fixated and kissed down Y/N's upper torso and followed his happy trail across his stomach and to his hips, the closer he got to Y/N's waist band the more Y/N moaned. Remus' long fingers unbuckled Y/N's belt and with some shuffling managed to pull his trouser down to his knees. Y/N began to reach out for his boot laces to undo then "No don't" interjected Remus "Keep them on... I like them". Y/N smirked and looked down at his own boxers which hugged his hips and clearly showed off how erect he was for the man above him. Moving his hands away from his laces Y/N reached out for Remus' shirt and began to unbutton it but stopped after one and looked up, waiting for a signal from Remus. Nervously Remus nodded and closed his eyes and Y/N carrier on undoing his shirt. He felt the slight coolness of the air as his shirt fell from him and then he felt Y/N's lips, kissing from his stomach all the way to the crook of his neck and then to his ear, "You are beautiful Remus, every single part of you". These sweet whispered words made him shiver and softly moan out Y/N's name. Next Remus felt a hand press firmly over his trouser and started to massage his concealed cock, resulting in a low primal growl to escape his lips. "I want you" Y/N carried on inti Remus' ear, enjoying the effect it was having on him "I need you inside me".
Y/N's boxers were roughly pulled down to meet his trousers around his carves. Following this movement Remus placed himself between Y/N's boots, lifting them over his shoulders, breathing over Y/N cock to tease him and make him twitch before leaning down and starting to rim Y/N's hole. The younger man arched his back and pushed his head into the pillow, moaning at the hot wet feelings of pleasure he felt. One of Remus' hand snaked up and grasped Y/N now throbbing cock and jerk it lazily which summoned more whimpers from Y/N. Remus adored the noises he could get out of the man in front of him and his mind started to race imagine how Y/N would sound when he made him cum. The stiffness in his own trousers was borderline painful so Remus pulled away from Y/N and quickly removed his trouser and boxers, his own erect cock almost touching his stomach. Looking down he saw Y/Ns eye grow at the sight of it and then looking up again "Moones your going to make me scream". "Good." Remus replied in a gruff tone, holing onto his cock and starting to position himself against Y/N hole. Their eyes were locked as Remus slowly entered Y/N who whined and yelped out, "it's okay" Remus reassured bring his fingers up to Y/N's cheek to sooth him but turning his head Y/N took Remus fingers in his mouth, sucking and licking them as he moaned "keep going". Soon Remus was fully inside Y/N and he knocked his head back from how tight Y/Ns arse felt against his cock and then his hips began to rock, building up a rhythm as he began to fuck Y/N.
Looking up at Remus with big dilated eyes, trying his best to stay focused and not lose complete control Y/N gripped his own cocked and continued to jerk himself off as Remus pounded his ass. Each trust brought both men to their climax significantly faster than they were expecting. "Remus .. Remus .. I ..I'm gonna" Y/N spluttered trying to control his body's build up. "Hold on pup" Remus growled but this simply pushed Y/N over the edge and with a strong cry he came over his own hand and Remus' stomach. Upon feeling this against his skin it didn't take Remus long himself, with a few more rigorous thrusts and slamming his mouth into Y/Ns he felt his tip harden beyond belief inside Y/N and biting on the younger man's lip Remus came hard, making them both cry out. Remus stayed inside Y/N slowly thrusting until they stopped twitching with pleasure. After he pulled out resting in his side he wrapped Y/N up in his long arms and brought him in close to his chest. The room was filled with their sound of them panting and then laughing. "Might have taken you ages to make the first move but boy do you know what your doing afterwards" Y/N said nibbling on Remus' ear lobe. "There's lots more where that came from if you've got the stamina" Remus teased and they stayed in each others arms until they drifted off to sleep.

okay so i watched all eight episodes of 1899 in one go on monday and i cannot stop Having Thoughts. quite honestly it is the most superbly executed narrative i've ever encountered outside of literature. the sheer thematic scope and complexity is breathtaking. THEY WROTE A GREEK TRAGEDY about all my favourite things and it begins with an emily dickinson poem. !!! the universe was aiming its arrow right at my brain with this one.
(so of course it wasn't renewed. given that la révolution also wasn't renewed, i'm forced to conclude that tptb at netflix have something against thoughtful and nuanced excellence in storytelling.)
this is one of those times i especially miss metafandom because i'm sure there've been discussions about everything my brain is yelling at me but how the hell does one find the good shit anymore? or even the bad shit, for that matter. so here you go, tumblr frēonds, have yet another brain dump that nobody asked for or cares about.
a list of topics covered by 1899 that i recall after watching the entire thing once, in no particular order:
the nature of identity
the nature of reality
how grief warps both the self and the perception of reality
the often inexplicable nature of trust
the human brain's capabilities
the inherent untrustworthiness of memory and the irony that it's all we have
explorations of female identity
the many meanings of freedom
communication!! — trying to understand and be understood through barriers of language, of levels of reality, of technology
the destructive nature of religious zealotry (and christianity in general *internal sigh*)
classism
patriarchy
homophobia (both social and internalised)
the beautiful and horrific acts humans will commit in the name of love
the looming shadow of the male authority figure
space as a concept, both literal and psychological: liminal spaces, confinement
'the odyssey', obviously
the trope of the mad woman in the attic (this one gets its own post because I Have A Lot To Say)
now let's talk ancient greek references!
[1] the names of both ships come from ancient greek mythology: prometheus stole fire from the gods to give to humans and was sentenced to eternal punishment; kérberos (or cerberus) was the multi-headed dog who guarded the gates of the underworld to prevent the dead from leaving.
[2] in ancient greek philosophy, there were four classical elements; this concept was taken up in western alchemy, which made a hobby out of giving everything a glyph or symbol. the symbols of the four elements are triangles:
🜂 = fire 🜄 = water 🜁 = air 🜃 = earth
[3] it's been four months since the prometheus went missing. what, i wondered, is the significance of the number 4? in greek numerals 4 is represented as Δ´. oh, look, a triangle. and what's a triangle in three-dimensional space? a pyramid. and what's a pyramid geometrically speaking? a tetrahedron! which has 4 faces and 4 vertices. it's also the smallest possible platonic solid and plato associated it with the element fire. i don't know enough about geometry or philosophy to take these associations any further, but, as shakespeare would say, come the futtock on. this level of detail is RIDICULOUS and EVERYTHING TO ME.

I will never forget that in middle school because I have no musical talent I didn't join band or choir and I also had no athletic ability so I wasn't on a sports team so during the period everyone was else was doing one of those things the rest of us no talent kids had to take "Reading class" where we just read books
And that sounds nice except I was a fast reader and I was only allowed to read 2 pages of the book in question a day. I was not allowed to read ahead of the class and I was not allowed to read my book from home or even work on my homework.
But if I looked too bored the teacher would get mad at me for that and for not reading and "I read it already" was met with a look of disgust and being told to read it again.
So for like an hour I would either stare into space or read the same 2 pages over and over and over again
And I couldn't even hide my book from home behind my textbook because she watched me like a hawk
Why?
Because the teacher of that class fucking hated me for god knows what reason
Anyway I hated the Odyssey for years because I was forced to read it at an absolute snails pace in middle school and it took me a long time to separate out the story from that experience

(another spm thing haha I should actually play the game at some point also I read your entire dimentio doc and I LOVED IT) why do you think Luigi is the ideal host for the Chaos Heart?
Oh, glad you liked it, thank you! As for your question, it's a good one, but... I don't know if I really have a great answer on it. Let's start with some important information about the Chaos Heart. Its name in the original Japanese is the "Love Power of Chaos". This is significant because it tells us a lot more about the type of thing it is. Throughout Super Paper Mario, it is repeatedly emphasized that the power of pure love is capable of... well, just about anything. Reviving the dead, restoring the *beyond* dead, bringing worlds back from non-existence, even defying fate itself.
But that power isn't a purely positive one. Love at its core is passion, it's caring about someone, it's a bond between hearts. But that care isn't always mutual, benevolent, or healthy. Obsession is a kind of love, unhinged devotion a kind of care. But it's a different kind of love, something corrupt. Chaotic love. Where pure love is a thing of light and restoration and possibility, chaotic love is a negative power, associated with destruction, darkness, inevitability, and madness. So when Peach and Bowser completed the worst marriage ever, that is why the Chaos Heart was born.
(Side-note: The fact that he would later try to marry her again in Super Mario Odyssey does suggest it's a one-time occurrence that wouldn't happen if they got married a second time, which in turn probably means the specific circumstances of the wedding in SPM and/or the Dark Prognosticus's prophecy played a part in things, but to what extent is unclear.)
Now, the other thing about the Chaos Heart is it's weirdly parasitic in behavior. We know from Count Bleck's tattle that it grants certain powers (presumably related to dark magic) to its bearer, as well as placing a protective barrier around them. But unlike the Purity Heart, it needs a host to continue existing, disappearing if they die and fleeing a mortally injured host. It makes sense that the Chaos Heart would get along with Count Bleck. He's a man haunted by overwhelming grief, swimming in the exact sort of chaotic love from which the Chaos Heart was made. Dimentio's ego could suggest a narcissistic form of chaotic love is at play with him as well. But then where exactly does Luigi come into this?
Some theorize that he's a perfect host for the Chaos Heart because he wasn't actually Luigi at the time, he was Mr. L. This doesn't really work, as Dimentio only refers to him as "man in green" in the Japanese version of that scene, with Mr. L's name just being invoked in the English localization for some reason. There might be some merit to the idea that he wasn't truly Luigi at the time, but by that metric, he also wasn't... anyone. In Japanese, Dimentio specifically says the Dark Prognosticus predicted Luigi's *body* was the "perfect vessel" for the Chaos Heart. This, along with the fact that Luigi spends his entire time as part of Super Dimentio with his mind overwritten, weirdly kind of implies that his mind and so his personal connection to chaotic love might be irrelevant to what makes him a good host for the Chaos Heart.
However, since that matter is rather unclear, it's worth looking into another popular theory that does touch on the actual mind of Luigi and what chaotic love he may feel. Namely... the universe is not always kind to our plucky plumber in green. He's far less popular than his brother, often the butt of circumstance's jokes, and often disrespected by those around him. Some believe that this has created a repressed jealousy within Luigi for his brother, such that even though he loves his brother deeply, there is a wellspring of chaotic potential beneath it. And... this is a good idea to explore in fan works, there's a lot to dive into, fascinating interpretations you can make of Luigi's character through that lens, but from a canonical perspective, it's just not very supported.
For one thing, you never see it explored in the game. Super Paper Mario features one of the most confident showings of Luigi we've ever seen. Luigi never expresses dissatisfaction in his relationship with his brother, and he isn't even really mocked or negatively compared to Mario, at least not in any way that's given much thematic weight. Heck, even as Mr. L, who's lost all his memories and been hypnotized into a whole new purpose and identity, he still develops a brotherly connection through Brobot. And looking to other games, we continue to see their brotherly bond as not only positive, but aspirational.
Starlow comments on how much they trust each other. On Star Hill, wish is to be a great plumber like Mario. In Dream's Deep, we see his thoughts and feelings toward his brother laid bare, and they're all supportive and positive. Mario and Luigi's relationship may not be perfect, no relationship can be, but from all indication those two are about as close as you're gonna get. The closest we ever really get to a hint of a negative side to Luigi's perception of Mario is in Luigi's diary in PM64, where he says it's unfair that Mario went on an exciting journey alone. In other words... he's upset that he didn't get to go along and spent time adventuring with his bro. Hardly a statement of resentment. So the resentment theory analytically seems to fall flat as well.
This leaves only two real options of which I'm aware, and they're kind of the least narratively satisfying ones. One is that it's just a mystery and we don't know why, and the other is that it's true because it's what the Dark Prognosticus predicted. He's the perfect host because destiny says so. There is quite some evidence that the Dark Prognosticus itself is the reason many of its prophecies occur, and indeed that it may be what forces them to, but for a case such as how suited a person is to being the vessel of a very specific kind of dark power... well, like I said, it's not especially satisfying as a conclusion. So this is kind of a roundabout way of saying I'm not sure there is a definitive answer here.

@mimbotomy tagged me in a fun tag game for fanfic writers, so here's my answers!!!!
How many works do you have on AO3? I have 62 total works, and I am so disappointed in a lot of them 😅
What's your total AO3 word count? 339,839 words!
What fandoms do you write for? Lately I've been working a lot on fics with AC: Odyssey, Monsterverse, and VicTORIous. However, I did recently do a fic for Mean Girls (2024) and I used to write a lot for BNHA/MHA, when I was very big on that fandom, but all those fics are really bad and cringe so I try to pretend they don't exist. I also have some batfamily fics, and a few for Dynasty. A few oneshots here and there with that fic being my only work in the fandom. And how could I forget, Horizon!
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Confidence - What a Hero Needs - this annoys me so much, it was my first fic, EVER. I wrote it 4 years ago, and it's still my most popular, I've written much better stuff. I've even REWRITTEN THIS ONE AND THE OG IS STILL MORE POPULARR GKHDGHJHWJHK Apects Unknown - or are they? - a fun batfamily and wonderbat based fic off of my own mini-universe. Very cute, and very proud of this fic Perseverance - What a Hero Needs - the immediate follow up to Confidence. Again, I've written a lot better stuff "What? I like hero merch!" - My favorite crack fic I've written. Also BNHA/MHA based, but this was just fun and cute Among (Us) the Villains - yet another BNHA/MHA fic, but this time it's based about Izuku being friends with the LoV. And gaming with them. Made around the time of Among Us, hence the title
Do you respond to comments? I try, especially once I post something new. But honestly, a lot of my responses end up being just hearts or "thank you's" and it personally makes me feel like I'm being disingenuine when i respond with them too much
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I suppose Kumandra's Heart? But that was more sad than angst, I think?
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Pretty Girls, my Mean Girls (2024) fic!!!! I love this one so much, it's one of the few I go back and reread often! Basically a rewrite of the movie to be a lot gayer.
Do you get hate on fics? Oh yeah, there was this one marvel fic I did, and this one commenter was really mad that I wasn't going exactly as canon dictated. Because of course
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have a few fics with smut, and it's mainly kink-based. Definitely love involved too, but very kink-based.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Yes! I enjoy it a lot! My craziest one would probably have to be the one I'm currently writing, combining the Assassin's Creed universe and Legendary's Monsterverse. It's called Ancients Risen Anew, and based on Kassandra joining MONARCH after the G-Day event in 2014!
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge! I made all my fics available only to registered users for the purpose of keeping them as safe as I can while still sharing them.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope! Would love to see it happen though!
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope! It sounds interesting to do though!
What's your all time favorite ship? I would have to say Jade West/Tori Vega. The good old classic gay couple from Nickelodeon, as much as we hate how that era of TV was behind the scenes. A close second would probably be Aloy/Seyka, from Horizon. I just love them so much, they're my little blorbos (i think i used that term right :D)
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have a few, but I'll talk about Cascade for now. It's the marvel fic I mentioned earlier, and I kinda lost all interest in marvel recently. The last media I saw was The Marvels, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I kinda got oversaturated with too much Marvel stuff, and not enough of it was as amazing like Shang-Chi was to make me wanna stay interested. Will definitely watch the stuff I'm interested in though (anything with Kate Bishop and Yelena)
What are your writing strengths? Hmmmm, tough one. I would say lore. I love writing lore and explaining lore. I am also very good at writing outlines.
What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes. Especially fast paced ones. I love the choreography in movies, but how am I supposed to translate the fast-paced combat into writing in a way that feels natural????
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I have done this for a short story! Please go check it out, its non-fandom related so it didn't get traction, but oh my god i did so much research for it and I love it. It's called Children of Níðhǫggr!
First fandom you wrote for? Boku no Hero Academia / My Hero Academia. Please, end me
Favorite fic you've written? How the fuck am I supposed to choose just one?!??!?! I'll limit myself to five, to keep this short, lol Ink & Sparks - which is my favorite Jade West/Tori Vega fic. I rewrote it several times, and the version linked is the best one I've done. Please check it out, I love it so much! There's More To Life Than Surviving! - Honestly, this one is a contender for top fic. A crack fic, but for Ninjago! Loved it a lot The Titan of the Pearl - A very nice fic I wrote combining the Pirates of the Caribbean and Godzilla. Because I can Kumandra's Heart - A slight ending rewrite of Raya, the Last Dragon, which is my personal favorite Disney Princess movie Pretty Girls - the Mean Girls (2024) fic I mentioned earlier. I love this one so much, and like I said, I keep going back to reread it, that's how much I enjoy it Going to tag @aeide, @hartlesshart, @foibles-fables, and @spectres-n-knights for this! And if anyone else wants to, please go ahead!

I got an ask with comments about a post where the OP kinda defended the situation with Lies We Sing to the Sea. I will not post the part of the ask with the link because I want to give zero attention to that post. But here is the commentary
Tumblr media
The post in question has 1 note so please ignore it and let it remain hidden forever. But I'll comment because I love "taking the piss" as a Brit would say.
i don't trust this scorn [toward the author] to be warranted anymore. from white Greek people especially.
So.... OP excludes 99.5% of all Greeks on the planet (based on what Greeks consider a White person) from commenting on a cultural issue, where appearance plays no role... Ahaaam... Also, half the Middle Easterners and N. Africans can pass as White Greeks so... what does this gal call White and non-White exactly? Well, you know what, let's not indulge her here.
Perhaps I'll send my family over to her house and whomever she deems "ethnic"/"brown" enough, I'll instruct them to tell her her opinion is shit, so we have chances of being heard. I don't agree with bashing Brits just because they're Brits but OP reaaaally sounded like an old white posh Brit here. But even her posh dead fellow countrymen didn't check how light our ancestors were when fighting them to steal their antiquities and land, just sayin
it's not her fault she got a publishing deal and you didn't. be honest for a second, that is what you're mad about, isn't it? that she has a bigger megaphone than you right now.
Wow.. that's an assumption. Since the news broke out first in the publishing world, it's normal for some of the Greeks who called Underwood out to be writers themselves. But no Greek, including Greek writers, called her out because of jealousy. They did it because they were horrified by how little the prominently Anglophone western industry continues to care about actual Greek culture and people while profiting from it in the most inaccurate and dismissive way. Why do you think the drama blew out? Because it's not just a book, it's a treatment of Greece and Greece that's happening for damn centuries!
you lot make fun of poor brits way more than the people in power. funny British accents? working class accents. gross British food? poverty meals. it's punching down. admittedly, i have no clue what Sarah Underwood's finances were or are like, before or after she sold her book.
Her finances were good enough for her to get her hands on the Odyssey and call it things you just Don't call a foreign National Epic. Her financial situation is improved now, and I don't see her getting more culturally respectful or apologizing. And in 2023, the Odyssey with explanation and commentary is accessible to everyone. Even kids books and cartoons on national TV with simple language will give you a better understanding of the work, compared to what Underwood has.
And, how insidious of OP to use poor Brits (as she used non-White Greeks earlier) to prove a point, while in actuality she's shitting on them too! Does she really think poor Brits don't have the capacity to appreciate an Epic?? That cultural disrespect is a characteristic of poor people...??
Based on what I know about the mentality of people in the UK, if Brits with little education make these comments, they will be much more appreciative than Sarah Underwood, and they are more likely to also add "eh my education wasn't the best. I am sure it's a very important piece for the Greeks and for the whole world, since it's so ancient". The average low-income person seems to me much more grounded, and much less audacious when publicly saying negative stuff about our Epics. I think most people wouldn't even dare speak how Underwood spoke if they were aware - as they often are - their education was lacking.
You can usually tell when comments about the Greek Epics are made by people who didn't have privileges, compared to when they're made by people who had ample access to them and they just chose to be dicks. I'll take negative opinions from poor Brits on the street any time over Classics Student Pretentious Talk

Just found this in my docs! Apparently I wrote down my reaction when I first listened to Ulysses Dies At Dawn last november, soooo :D
Started listening to Ulysses Dies at Dawn by The Mechanists. First song is The City, let's gooo (19:44).
Just finished listening to Ulysses Dies at Dawn. Oh, shit, I just realised why the album is called that, fuck. My heart. His death was simultaneously heartbreaking, peaceful, and triumphant. I had no idea it was going to end like that. Amazing (22:24).
Ok, some rambling about it before I re-listen with lyrics:
The whole idea of trials, and each character's backstory getting introduced with them is cool. It lets the mystery soak for a bit, giving breadcrumbs out, and letting each character have time to breathe.
I like how the blind guy is almost exclusively referred to as "that motherfucker" XD. Ironic.
Ok, but the sphinx disease is legitimately horrifying. Wow, the Olympians are just straight up villains in this huh.
I think Daedalus has the coolest vibes (apart from Ulysses) 'cause he's just so smooth all the time. Calm and collected and unconcerned... until the end when Ulysses switches it up on him lol.
The line "Currently beaten, battered, bloody... Unbowed. Spits out a mouthful of teeth and disdain" perfectly encapsulates Ulysses' character. I love it.
Ulysses being this super smart inventor tactician dude is awesome. I was stunned by the Trojan Horse twist. Broken Horses was amazing, I had literal chills. Interestingly, it almost reminds me of Hell’s Comin’ with Me by Poor Man’s Poison? Also, the signal Ulysses designed for the Trojan Horse sounds a lot like the V-Day signal in Kingsman. Brutal.
The beat to My Name is No-One sounds like an alarm, like how False Peace by Precious Jewel Amor utilises the prison alarm as percussion, which is very cool. And the song is hilarious. Just waltz in, it'll be fine :D Love the way it fades out after he gives his name away, ending on an unresolved note a lot like in Remember Them from EpicTM. Yo, speaking of Epic, I kinda love how the electric guitar in this song unintentionally mirrors the way Odysseus in Epic has the electric guitar as his instrument when he’s doing badass shit.
And then Ulysses going from idealistic to traumatised, and you don't even see the extent of his hope for the world until right at the end, when it's already gone. Like, shit bro.
Love how even though he spends like- almost the whole thing being drunk and getting beaten up, he still always seems in control somehow. The only time he isn't is in Underworld Blues when he's begging to Hades. I'll have to relisten to that to figure out what he wanted, actually. It was a bit unclear. Did he just... want Hades to kill him or smth? Make sure his brain wasn't on the network? Yeah, I'll need the lyrics.
The twists on all the lore are honestly so great. From mythical and magical, to futuristic and mechanical. You can clearly see the real world myths all their backstories come from.
That simple, blunt "No" from Ariadne was great.
I love how in Torn Suits all of the mercs are singing about why they can't die, and how they're going to use the money to escape the City's hold on them. By running, or paying off debts, or taking a loved one back, or ruling it. But then Ulysses kills them and willingly dies himself, giving his body to the earth and escaping the City more fully than they ever could. Hell yeah, fuck them.
As soon as I heard the password was 'Elysian', I knew it was something about death. His death. And something about it will be peaceful. I was right.
And ARGOS!! The doggo reunites with his human, and yeah he still dies, but Ulysses practically goes with him! Also, are dogs extinct in this world, like horses? Did Ulysses manage to find the last tree and the last dog?? Damn, dude. Mad skillz.
Bro, I was wondering where Penelope was going to fit into all this, 'cause in The Odyssey, practically his entire life purpose is to get back to her, but here there was... nothing stopping him I thought? I thought either he was in huge debt to someone and was stuck in a completely different sector than Penelope, or he was staying away out of guilt and shame over his actions in the war. But then it's revealed that he is trying to get back to her... in death. Like, fuck bro, that's really fucking sad. Dude's been passively or actively suicidal for the past few decades, and then he finally gets to rest with her... Fuck, man. Hits hard.
Ulysses sounds a lot like Joel from The Last of Us games when he sings softly. It helps that Elysian Fields is literally just Wayfaring Stranger lol. Also gives the same feeling as the endish part of AC: Valhalla, after he talks to the king and rides away and Twilight of the Gods starts playing.
The cover art is so cool, as well. And the last ones? The plain wooden table, bare of any media or research or advertisement. So good. No more secrets. No more lies. The truth, laid out in the open, plain as can be. Nothing more, nothing less. And then the vault, blood splattered enemies dying, grasping for artificial life in the cold grey, while Ulysses lies under the living tree, surrounded by sunlight and green with his loved ones, at peace with his death. Amazing imagery.
The drums at the end of Elysian Fields are like a funeral march or the drums that play on Anzac Day. So good.
Okay, I think I've written all I wanted to say, so imma go read the lyrics now (22:56).
Finished listening with the lyrics! Love it even more now (01:44).

In Through the Airlock
In Through the Airlock, David Starkins, 1981
In Through the Airlock (ITtA) was one of the earliest avant-garde RPGs. Writing and playtesting started about a year after Traveller was released, but it wasn't until 1980 that things really took off. That was the year Led Zeppelin's album In Through The Out Door was released, and it was a major influence. Starkins said he listened to the album almost exclusively when writing the game's major revision and its companion setting book. The album is widely considered one of Zeppelin's worst, partly because it doesn't fit with the rest of their work. Lots of synth, a straight-up country song in the middle of it, different instruments at the forefront.
The few years before this game came out were a prolific time for new sci-fi. Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back were obviously the biggest deal, but Mad Max, Alien, Star Trek: the Motion Picture, The Black Hole, installments of both Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, Battlestar Galactica, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and even the utter nonsense that was Moonraker all came out within three years of each other. ITtA was spoiled for choice when it came to inspiration. Of that set, the major influences were definitely Alien, BSG, and Flash Gordon. ITtA blends them, the ten-years-earlier 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the mechanics of early Traveller into a military sci-fi game with a distinctly oddball feel.
In ITtA your characters are tasked with taking over capital starships with the least amount of damage possible to the structure. (Why sink a ship when you can take it over instead?) They cut through the airlock, re-seal it with some specialized gear, cut through the inside, and commando their way through the halls with stunners and nets. As the game goes on they're supposed to learn more about a (never detailed) threat coming from interplanetary space and galvanize people to fight against it. Starkins cited this particular stanza from Carouselambra as a major inspiration for the setting:
How keen the storied hunter's eye prevails upon the land To seek the unsuspecting and the weak And powerless the fabled sat, too smug to lift a hand Toward the foe that threatened from the deep Who cares to dry the cheeks of those who saddened stand Adrift upon a sea of futile speech? And to fall to fate and make the 'status plan' But no one there had heaven within their reach
It's definitely on the harder side of sci-fi, at least for what was known in 1981 (before the personal computer). For example, the game emphasizes repeatedly that there's no sound in space - that your characters will be floating through the void, hearing only radio static and navigation beacons from the moment they leave their ship to when they enter. The art (b/w line drawings) shows people floating rather than standing. The game ran more or less like Classic Traveler, but stripped down to just what you would need for this particular premise.
I mentioned "avant-garde" earlier. Production quality was very high for a game of its time. ITtA was three paperbacks (character + rules, ships + gear, GM book), but it shipped in a multi-album record box with a black cover and the name inlaid with "holographic" paper. It even came with a cassette tape (irony) containing a somewhat amateurish audio drama, attempting to set the mood for the game. It spoils a little of the reveal of the impending big bad, but that might not be a bad thing. Starkins gets an A for effort.
Unfortunately, as with a lot of art-project games, the cost became the problem. Even in bulk production this game might not have made its money back. At $40 in 1981, and frequently miscategorized into the record section, it didn't sell many copies. If you don't want to spend an unreasonable amount on auction sites, check a used record store.

Hi! I want to know more about the Water wife, I´ve a really small understanding of this take on Penelope and i wANT TO KNOW MORE!!!!
Thanks for being so kind! 💙
Tumblr media
I WILL HAPPILY
(understand that these are just headcanons/my ideas and I'm very silly)
Go through the tag of #my headcanons if you want more stuff though honestly, as...I write a LOT about her.
Not gonna lie, this is a LOT of rambling. Also certain things I won't say as I DO plan to someday write Odypen's courting and I want the readers to "fall in love" with her ALONGSIDE Odysseus. We already know him. But the Odyssey kind of keeps a lot of her intentions/sneakiness hidden on purpose because she's just as much of an enigma to Odysseus as the Narrator in a way. (it's one of the things I love so much about her). I hope to write her in a way that "reveals" HER as well.
Honestly I'll try and tag all my stuff with her with Water Wife (maybe without tm because...that was just for the silly and it's sometimes annoying to dig up the emoji thing on computer)
I take a lot of liberties with everything "nonmortal" (demigods, nymphs, etc.) because honestly it's just genuinely fun to write about plus I'm neurodivergent :P also have chronic pain, so I like writing SOME of my gals doing athletics. Mostly just Penelope and Helen being SUPER into it while other women have some activities they like. Ctimene for example, likes running and Anticlea woodcarving (who Odysseus learned it from)
Also silly thing, but one thing I always try to keep in mind is the idea of "A lot of people write women just reacting and not affecting" and I feel like people think Homer and other Ancient Greek Authors do that when...No. They write very dynamic and complex women. Penelope isn't JUST "sobbing" when the suitors are there. If it weren't for her schemes, she'd be married already. BUT NO!!! She's so cunning and held them off WITHOUT physical force!!!
"She should've killed them-" YEs! BUT there are also the political implications of that and xenia to consider!!! Literally at the end of the Odyssey, Athena has to calm everybody down!!! She couldn't do that without even more angry people coming at her!!! rtdyfugh ANYWAYS
I also take "likeminded" and sprint with it. For every shitty/wonderful thing Odysseus has done, she's rooting for it or would do something similar. They're as full of love as they are full of hate.
These two are that "evil couple" sometimes. She's sitting in his lap and they just humiliated someone publically and laugh at them and then they start nuzzling noses, giggling.
She's prideful in many ways as well and she's not against throwing someone under the bus if she needs to and WILL blackmail. You're afraid of snakes and she doesn't like you? "Oh my gosh! What do you think of my new snake necklace?"
She's pretty reckless often in her youth (Her and Odysseus both got that Adhd swag). For example, in my one fic's first chapter, it mentions how she ate a catfish that is making her sick. She rushed in and wasn't even thinking about "...Hey, isn't this one kind of weird?" She was pretending she was fine at first when she clearly wasn't as she doesn't like showing "weakness" (plus adrenaline). Also as she just gave birth like, 8-9 months before, she's in a weird funk of feeling strange about how her body has changed a bit despite recovering very well (water helps!). She's soooo happy she took the "beast" down. While sick, she knew she was reckless and mad at herself.
She's actually closest with Helen probably. Her siblings are a bit older than her and as she was born in a creek and quite smaller because of it (Naiads being affected by the waters they were born in) she got teased by some other naiads for quite a while. Helen is also, a little shit, in her own way so these two loved doing silly shit often. (Penelope, Helen, Menelaus, Castor, and Pollux, were this very strange little squad of kiddos who just...did random shit. They each have scars and knicks from their silliness (except Helen and Pollux))
Some of the scales she has on her arms and one shoulder, dry out quicker, from one of the times older naiads got a hold of her and kind of ripped at them :'D "Puddle girl"
It's something she carries with her in a way and when her water breaks with Telemachus, she hides it at first being like "Hey, let's head towards the caves!!!" until Odysseus realizes and he's so frustrated and upset with her has to scoop her up. (her stubbornness and recklessness) He scolds her after everything calms down like two weeks later.
Funny enough, I've had this idea for a LONG time even before I watched the 90's Odyssey. Odysseus just gives that vibe of "I'm not fucking leaving." don't he?
Odysseus: I can't believe you did that. The Canals were closer, Penelope- Penelope: I know but he'd be so much stronger if he were born in the caves and he is. AND I'm fine!!! I'm actually doing very well.
She hates bracelets. She usually ends up breaking them from messing with them too much.
Athena technically spoke with her first before Odysseus but Athena was WATCHING Odysseus for a longer time.
She's really close with her parents because her eldest sister got married quite young and her brothers are in the military. She goes running with dad often (let me have this) and she enjoys swimming (ofc), running, and pankration (Idk why I think it's really neat but I do)
She's got a scar on her temple that is kind of hidden by her hair from when she got washed away once when she was little (the scars she DOES have are because of her own novice attempts at healing, otherwise she doesn't have really any) and she's got a little crook in her nose, something she's self-conscious about as it was one of her first times "setting bone" with water and so it didn't end up perfect. It's not too noticeable but of course, you notice your own flaws more than others. (When she finally allows Odysseus to kiss her face, he immediately places a little kiss on her nose.)
There's...SO many more but yeah. a lot of basics.

so i read Lies We Sing To The Sea, and honestly i do not think this book was worth all the drama that surrounded it.
it's a perfectly fine YA fantasy, even complete with a love triangle. i read it in 3 days, it wasn't exactly mindblowing but it was engaging enough and the ending genuinely surprised me. i liked it, but probably won't read it again.
and the entire tag for the book is just people who haven't even read it screeching about how the author, Sarah Underwood hasn't read the Odyssey, and is from England.
and now i feel the need to rant:
right away i'm going to brush away the England point, because it feels like just another symptom of this weird hatred of England that's overcome tumblr in the past few years. sometimes it's funny, like yeah, we are pretty shitty, the monarchy and the British Museum suck, and that should be talked about. i'm not going to act like i'm oppressed because people online make fun of a country i just happened to be born in. but it so often slips over into classism. you lot make fun of poor brits way more than the people in power. funny British accents? working class accents. gross British food? poverty meals. it's punching down.
admittedly, i have no clue what Sarah Underwood's finances were or are like, before or after she sold her book. but my point is that i'm not entertaining this idea that her being English inherently makes her worse, because i don't trust this scorn to be warranted anymore. from white Greek people especially. sorry, but the BM having a few of your statues does not make you an oppressed minority any more than me being from the north of england makes me one, and it's frankly embarrassing for you to keep acting like a non-Greek writing a story set in Ancient Greece is at all equivalent to actual cultural appropriation.
it's not her fault she got a publishing deal and you didn't. be honest for a second, that is what you're mad about, isn't it? that she has a bigger megaphone than you right now. there's no shame in it, all of social media is about trying to grab attention, and drama is good at that, but let's not get too aggressive towards those who don't need to get mad on the internet to get that attention.
as for the not reading the Odyssey thing... first of all i read that whole interview and i can say right away that that interviewer did a shit job. she misspells the name of Jessie Burton, another Greek myth reteller, for christs sake! if the interviewer seemed to Underwood as thick as she seems to me, i don't blame her for fumbling a bit. talking to idiots is hard, and we have no idea how accurately she was portrayed, considering the people publishing the interview clearly did no research or spell checking.
and as someone who has read the Odyssey... no, you really don't need to have read it all to write a story set hundreds of years later, with only one character in common, a character who is given barely any characterisation in the original text. there is one chapter in this book that retells a part of the Odyssey, and i think it did it excellently. you don't need to read about Polyphemus or Circe or Nausicaa to write about the lives of those inside the palace. we don't know how much the author actually did or didn't read, but to me reading the book, it seems like she read enough.
the people who are acting like you have to know the Odyssey inside and out to write anything remotely related to it are snobs, plain and simple. not everybody was lucky enough to get an education in classics. it circles back around to this issue of classism in the UK, only private schools and i believe seven public schools teach ancient languages or classics. picking up The Odyssey from a random bookshelf and reading it with no prior knowledge of the time and place it was set in can be hard! the customs were completely different than they are today! with nobody to explain xenia or nostos or epithets to you, it can be daunting! some translations have great forewords that can help with that, but not all.
is the book a masterpiece? no, it's a bloody YA book! have you seen the absolute deluge that market pushes out? there are plenty of mid books padding out the genre, and this is just one of them. i can name half a dozen better greek myth retellings or YA romance-adventures, and i do always recommend you read the actual classics if you think they'll interest you. all i'm saying is that the book doesn't deserve the absolute slating it's getting, and that Sarah Underwood certainly doesn't deserve this harassment or review bombing. does anybody deserve that, just for writing a silly YA book? sometimes we need to take a step back from the bachannal and really think about who or what we're ripping to pieces in our frenzy.
i'm not gonna sit here and insist you read Lies We Sing to The Sea or praise Sarah Underwood. for all i talk, i can't reach through the screen and touch you, you can do what you like with your time and energy. but if you do share your thoughts or leave a review, then yeah, i think you should have at least read a couple of chapters, at the very least to avoid showing your ass by parroting blatantly false statements. and if you make up your mind on how you feel on it after only a few chapters... well i don't think you have much of a leg to stand on when you complain that she drew conclusions without reading all of the Odyssey.

The Punk and the Wolf
(Previous chapter, Part 2, Next Chapter)
Remus Lupin x Male Reader
Summary: Set during OFTP, Y/N is Mad Eye Moody's assistant and while staying at Grimmauld place, him and Remus develop a connection.
   ------------------------------------
It was past midnight by the time the whole house began to calm down and everyone retired to bed. Since Remus had arrived a few days earlier he was able to claim his room, not that he really cared. He was laying on top of the covers his hands resting on his chest listening to the sound of Molly Weasley trying to get her litter to settle down.
"Now come on boys there's been enough excitement for one day, off you go". A joint sigh could be heard coming from Fred and George "Why do we have to share mum!? We don't mind Harry but you know how loud Ron snores!". With her own sigh Molly replies "Oh hush, your lucky you even have a bedroom, those who only arrived a few hours again are having to sleep down in the living room, do you want to swap?".
Remus assumed Molly was referring to Mad Eye Moody and Y/N. He was tempted to offer up his room, he really didn't mind where he slept since he never got a goodnights rest anyway. His joints would ache regardless. He spent the rest of the night tossing and turning, never quite finding a comfortable stop and in the early hours of the morning gave up entirely. With the soft dull light of dawn creeping through the curtains Remus decides to find something to read. Fortunately he remembered seeing a copy of The Odyssey on Sirius's bookshelf downstairs, though Remus doubted if his best friend had ever given a single book in this house a second glance.
Remus crept down the stairs, madthodically trying not to make any loud creeks as he went. The silence was deafening and such a contrast to how it felt earlier, full of people, light and noise, now Remus felt like he was walking through a morgue afterhours. First things first a cup of tea, he thinks as he makes his way into the kitchen. His eyebags felt heavy and as Remus pushed open the door he felt like he was sleepwalking, so when he reached out for the kettle and his forehead bumped into something soft he didn't react straight away. His reaction came after a surprised "wooooh hey there" echoed above him. With a mixture of confusion and surprise Remus steps back a little and squints upwards as his eyes adjust to the darkness.
Above him on the counter is a pair of leather boots, Y/N's boots and Y/N is in them, fully standing on the counter, arms raised and hands burried in the top shelf of assorted packets and food tins. He's looking down at Remus with the same expression a cat dose after they have just been caught pushing a glass off the table. "Oh it's just you" Y/N's breathes in relief and carries on rummaging, "what are you doing here?".
"What are YOU doing here?" was Remus' response, still baffled by what he was witnessing. "I think Molly put a packet of biscuits up here to keep them away from the twins and AHH here we go" with a crinkle of a package Y/N pulls them off the shelf with a triumph and turns around to properly face Remus. Because he was standing on top of the counter Remus had a clear view of Y/N's belt buckle, it seemed to be a bronze engraved plate of a hare curled up. It was handsome and strange, just like Y/N Remus thought and then he became incredibly aware he was staring at Y/N's crotch. He suddenly felt very warm around the collar and wished to be in a different situation. Now that Y/N had found what he was looking for he abruptly sat down on the counter with a little thud and then a whack when he boots hit the cupboard doors below him. This decent now meant him and Remus were the same height, eyes, nose and mouth all the same level to one another now. Remus started to wish he was looking at Y/Ns crotch again, it would be clear how crimson his face was if it wasn't so dark.
"Want one?" Y/N asked raising the packet of what seemed to be chocolate chip cookies towards Remus, Y/N tilted his head and smiled as he said this looking into the older man's eyes. Why did Remus feel so nervous about much a simple question. "Oh no, no thank you .. not nearly enough chocolate for me".
'What a ridiculous response' he thought to himself, mentally putting his head in his hands.
"Ah I see, well more for me then so thank you" Y/N says cheerily, taking one biscuit and then toasting it in Remus' direction before hopping off the counter and making his way towards the living room door. "Umm I don't think we've been properly introduced yet" Remus almost yelps out trying his best to keep the conversation from ending. "I'm Remus Lupin, can I make you a morning cup of tea?", Y/N stood for a moment and observed Remus with a smile, he found this gesture very sweet. "Nice to meet you properly Remus Lupin and yes please that would be lovely, though it's a night time cup of tea for me, you see we only got back about twenty minutes ago, me and Moody do night patrols and then various missions and enquiries for Sirius during the day so I'm afraid we probably won't see to much of each other". Hearing this genuinely made Remus sad as well as a little concerned when he looked up at the clock and saw it was 4:30am, "That's a lot to take on, you must be exhausted".
"No more than everyone else I imagine" Y/N's say through a massive yawn and he arches his back ninety degrees backwards making it crack a little. Remus has never been super flexible, he thought if he tried to roll his shoulders back it would cause an earthquake.
With tea made Remus carries the two mugs through to the living room. As he walks through the door the sight of a slouched snoring Moody in the near by chair made him jump and then instantly laugh softly. "Its okay he wont wake up" Y/N says walking passed Remus, lightly brushing his arm against Remus' he goes. Remus nearly slips the tea from a shiver which goes up his spine. "Once Moodys gone he's out like a light but then again he knows he can here because this is the only place where we are truly safe." while he talks Y/N makes his way to the sofa which has a couple of blankets layed out, he sits down lifting his feet up and over the sofa arm. Remus placed Y/Ns mug next to him on the small table, instead of saying thank you Y/N gave Remus a warm smile and Remus instinctively gave one back before sitting in the arm chair across from him. Despite the bizarre start to the meeting, sitting here with Y/N felt so calm and relaxing.
"So what's your reason for being up so late, early, whatever" Y/N asks as he blows on his mug. "Oh i cam down to find something to read!" remembering this excited Remus and he got up to moved towards to bookshelf , "I noticed there was a copy of The Odyssey, its one of my favourites.... at least I thought it was here, a small paper back copy" he furrowed his brow as he searched. "Do you mean this paper back?" and turning around Remus saw Y/N holding up the exact book he'd seen in between his painted fingers. "Sorry I saw it earlier and its always been on my list and I thought during the few moments Im not running around I could give it a go but here" and Y/N leans forward holding the book out for Remus to take. "Oh no really its fine im sure I can find something else here.." Remus began to say but as he skewered the shelves he realised every other book he had either already read or didnt like, there were even a few old magazines scrolled up and shoved in here. Oh for goodness sake Sirius.
Y/N watched the tall mans face grow more annoyed and smiled to himself. "Heres an idea" he spoke up and draw Remus out of his thoughts. Y/N with his thumb flicked through the book until he reached and end and then shiftily tore out a page, a gasp left Remus' mouth and Y/N chuckled in his direction. "Calm down its a blank page" he whispers as he tears the blank page in two, "since you and me will be up at different hours of the day anyway, why don't we share it. See ill write my name here" Y/N leans down and picks up a pen from the table, "And your name here. There. Two book marks" he beamed up at Remus once he finished his task and this smile made the mans heart melt. Y/N placed his bookmark on the page he had reached and places Remus' into the front of the book before lifting up his hand again waiting for the older man to come and take the book.
Slowly Remus came toward Y/N and started to take the book but stopped when he realised his long fingers were touching Y/Ns hand, he could feel some of the cold metal of Y/Ns rings in his palm. Neither of them said anything or moved for a moment, they both observed the interaction and then looked to one another, their eyes meeting. "I look forward to hearing what you think about it" Remus finally said, still looking into Y/Ns eyes. "Likewise" and finally after what felt like several prolonged minutes they separated. As they did Remus suddenly noticed Y/Ns shirt sleeve fall down a little revealing strange markings and colouration on his arm, it wasnt scarring but there was something unusual there, like a mark? "Well.." Y/N continued to say as he briskly pulled down his sleeve and cleared his throat, "I think ive got about two hours before me and Moody have to be up again."
Remus nods "of course, sleep well Y/N" and he walks out of the room holding the book to his chest with both hands. As much as he would have liked to stay and talked to the charming and peculiar man he also liked the idea of Y/N getting some rest. Remus spent the rest of the day with The Odyssey his is cardigan pocket, running his thumb over the spine. When night fell he was laying on his bed reading it though with every paragraph he imagined Y/N reading it and wondered what he thought. Did he laugh at the same bits he did, did the same quotes stay in his head too? Without evening realising Remus drifted off playing these questions over and over in his head.
It was the birds chirping which woke him up the next morning. Quickly he sat up and looked at the alarm clock. 6:30am. Shit. With a brisk pace Remus came down the stairs and instantly saw the living room door wide open, blankets draped everywhere. They were gone. Shit. He sighed in frustration and at a slower pace wondered into the kitchen to switch the kettle on. Similar to before he reached out towards the counter and then was taken aback though the cause was not a midnight snack thief this time. Resting against the kettle was a full packet of double chocolate biscuits and there was a note.
"Saw these when we were out and thought of you. Hope they meet your insanely high standards for biscuits! :) - Y/N"
Remus began to beam from ear to ear. It had been a long time since someone had given him a gift, even if it was just food. Only one thing kept swimming around in his head at this moment. "I think I'm really falling for this guy. Shit."

Do you have any headcanons of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, and Hestia's relationship with their mother Rhea?
Not many specific ones, aside from that it's generally okay? Even if it certainly could have been awkward, especially early on.
But, thinking about it, you could do quite a few things with Hera's situation of having Oceanus and Tethys as foster parents. She's the only one of the siblings noted to have such an arrangement, despite not being the youngest (in actuality or after the rearranged "birth order" when the five are regurgitated). Sure, it could mean nothing in terms of Hera's relationship to Rhea, but it could also mean it was, and still is, awkward and contentious.
Like, to be sure, the thing is with this that the Iliad is working from a different theogony than Hesiod's Theogony, something that is usually ignored but paints up a quite different early setting (and in general). You have Zeus and Hera sneaking around having a secret relationship their parents disagree with, you have Aphrodite as Zeus and Dione's daughter. (Incidentally, this is why Zeus could/would have "given her away" to Hephaistos to lead to the issue of him complaining about wanting the price of the bridal gifts back for the tale the bard sings of the golden net incident in the Odyssey. Zeus is Aphrodite's father here and, much like with Persephone, has all the right to marry her off. It becomes more awkward if you go with the more "standard" version of Aphrodite growing from the "foam" from and around Uranus' genitals in the water.)
That aside, I always usually imagine Zeus and Rhea have a rather good relationship. She might not have been able to be there much/at all as he grew up, but he's her baby, the one she managed to save and who then saved her other children (and, if you want to acknowledge that in such a manner, saved her from her husband), and is a good king (he is. I won't even say "fight me" about it because if you disagree, just don't come here to argue about it, I don't care).
Hestia and Rhea's relationship I think is good too? I just don't see much of a reason for it not to be. Like, maybe some of the younger ones (like Poseidon...) might be blaming their mother at least a little for not (being able to) stopping their father from swallowing them, but Hestia knows it was a complete surprise, at least.
I guess, if you take inspiration from the syncretism of Rhea-Cybele and Cybele's ecstatic rites/celebrations, you could use that as a complicating factor. Are her children comfortable with this? Who is, who isn't? Gives a neat connection between Rhea(-Cybele) and her grandson Dionysos' later ecstatic celebrations and the myth where she helps him. Considering he seeks help because Hera inflicted him with madness, I figure that might introduce some tension between mother and daughter even if there wasn't any before that!
Going back to more specific what I headcanon, for Poseidon and Rhea I sort of imagine that, while he loves his mother, he does blame her somewhat, and it all ties into him not trusting (others much in general, women in specific, leaning on his own strength, etc). They don't have a bad relationship, but there are issues underneath that might cause tension even if they never bloom out into anything realized?
Hades and Demeter probably has a generally okay/good relationship with their mother, too? I don't think/remember if I ever decided on anything specific there while writing Six Little Lights (where Rhea's relationship with her children is the whole thing).

I am so tired and out of it I can't be arsed rn to fill out a proper doc so here have a MUSE PAGE DKLGFLH
the seafarer;odysseus
name. Odysseus Laertiádēs, Odysseus the Cunning gender. cis male pronouns. he/him age. it's a 10-20 years story orientation. bisexual because it's the Greeks and I do as I please
faceclaim. ???? idk ;w;
Portrayal based technically primarily on Homer's Odyssey and The Iliad, though it's fair to mention that these works are ancient and rich in takes spread wildly by both contemporary as historical people of culture, which means, sources might pick and choose what to suggest, other times things just aren't all that clear babes (e.g. when the fickity does Polites die-). Based also on: Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles and Madeline Miller's Circe, Jorge Rivera-Herrans' EPIC: The Musical, my middle school 'Myths & Epics' textbook that I remember almost shit about, and all sorts of takes.
Odysseus, reigning king of Ithaca, son of Laertes and Anticlea, husband to Penelope, and father to Telemachus, Telegonus and give or take a bunch of other sons.
The mastermind behind the Trojan Horse and the guy wildly known for just wanting to go back home to his goddamn wife (and son, whom he mentions less often, which irks me, but alright) and having everything be slammed into his face just to make sure he can't.
He fights in the Trojan War after he got scammed into taking a blood-oath to always protect Helen and her marriage to Meleanus when he got roped into attending that weird party where dudes would show up and say 'here's why Helen, most beautiful of women, should marry me' while he'd already decided to marry a relative of Helene, ma'am Penelope.
(When they come to drag his ass to war he pretends to have gone absolutely bonkers, trying to sow salt at the beach, but when they throw his son in front of his prow and he leaps to save him, he instantly declares himself safe and sound of mind via the action and he's busted and dragged off.)
(Funnily enough, he's the one to bust Achilles' attempt at ditching the war, right after.)
(And Patroclus'.)
(And also he apparently manipulates his compadres into stoning the guy who busted him to death once they get to Troy, so yay)
He's there kind of against his will, basically, but he makes the best of it, hoping to end the war quickly so he may go home to his wife (as mentioned) and his then perhaps one-year-old son. He'd gotten ready for a war against a city with insurmountable walls, protected by the Gods, and hadn't signed up for a whiny homosexual to be the biggest aspect of this thing keeping him from home (talking about Achilles, who refuses to fight and win the war, the one guy they actually need to win the war and he's stuck in his tent playing the lyre to his boyfriend; Greek historians of the time argue vehemently, by the way, that Achilles bottomed, so do with that what you wish).
Welp, sooner or later, later in fact, 10 years later in fact, they do manage to fuck up Troy enough for Odysseus to enact one of his genius plans (the Trojan Horse) and put an 'OUT OF ORDER' stamp on the good ol' city of Troy.
Right after having to kill an infant, by the way.
Because the Gods really hate it when mortals have a good time (not to say he'd been having a good time, but getting to end the war had lifted his mood a little), they told him 'hey, this 0-year old child is the son of Hector and if you let him live, you'll die once he's old enough to pull the Greek classic of avenging his royal papa'. He had to do it, so he threw him off the wall and by god this haunts me.
It sucks, really, because the guy who'd killed Hector wasn't even Odysseus.
To briefly summarise: Achilles fucked around and got his slave yoinked by Agamemnon as revenge for a prior perfectly sound decision that had led Agamemnon to lose his slave, so Achilles refused to fight the war, everyone got mad and kept dying until even Patroclus, notoriously known to be anti-war and pro-bitching (and he's always right, by the way, by my sword) starts saying 'baby I know you're stupidly prideful and it's not even about her but about getting your toy nabbed which is disgusting and weird btw but can you win this war so we can all go home, please', Achilles kept refusing, Patroclus (good medic man, bad soldier man) took his armour, pretended to be him, got killed by Hector, this destroyed Achilles ('What has Hector ever done to me?'), who killed Hector and then Paris, brother of Hector and the asshole who started this shit by kidnapping Helen, then killed Achilles. So, the son of Hector can't avenge his papa by killing Achilles, so I guess it'd make sense he'd fuck with the next best option aka the guy who ended the Trojan war via the worst gift ever accepted, Odysseus. So yeah.
He fucks around a lot during the Iliad by the way, wins shit at the various death games (Achilles' armour, even), abandons a guy, gets him back, has Athena help some of his bullshit (she's his patron goddess, which is important), but I truly cannot get into all of it so KNOW THIS: Odysseus believes in prophecies and will do things to assure they are fulfilled and he commits vile acts and he fucks around scamming and lying and conniving but it is worthy of debate whether this is simply in his nature or if his actions throughout the war are motivated solely by his desire to go back home, leading him to certain paths, because it is also true that he's a good and smart aid and would like for the men to rest and does retrieve bodies and armours of the fallen to pass them on.
He finally gets to set sail but luckily for no one trouble is almost instantly around the corner, a bunch of weird glowing fruits with strange effects on the mind later, and we killed one of Polyphemus', giant man-eating cyclops, sheep and now he wants to eat us. This is the famous 'Nobody' story, where Odysseus tricks Polyphemus, has him either pass out or fall asleep drunk depending on the take, then proceeds to blind him on his one good eye, which is his only eye, by the way.
Worthy to note here, is, that: Polyphemus had to be taken down because he was blocking the exit out of the cave they'd gotten themselves stuck into (his cave, btw) and he was going to eat them, this is why Odysseus had introduced himself as 'Nobody', so that when other cyclops-buddies living on the cyclops-island came to the cyclops-rescue, and wondered 'who ever could do such a thing??!' Polyphemus could only say... yep. Nobody.
Then in a fit of stupidity and hubris, Odysseus ends up telling him who he is, and Polyphemus fucking snitches him out. He tells his dad. His dad, God of all Oceans, Poseidon. You know, the seas, the kind Odysseus is kind of trying to get through to go home. Poseidon is understandably feeling less than amicable about the whole ordeal and has Odysseus deviate so far off course that when his second in command starts bitching at him I can't help but take his side, because this deviation adds another whooping 10 years to his journey and I would have jumped ship, honestly.
He vibes with Aeolus, god of the winds for a hot minute there, gets a bag filled with all the winds except one to help guide him safely back home (and in the right direction, most importantly) but because he never TELLS anyone anything (though, to be honest, explanations do fall on deaf ears at times so you know) his crew opens the bag thinking something tasty (gold) is in it and fucks them all up by creating a storm that yeets them basically the entire way back from where they'd come.
He manages to not get eaten by something large again, losing the entire fleet safe for his sole ship, lands at Circe's island (MA'AM? mother~) who turns half his men into swine only releasing them after she doesn't get to do the same to Odysseus (Hermes helps) and gets to know him instead and potentially catch feelings because he does have a witty cabeza and it is impressive, and apparently she is too because they stay on her island for a whole year before his crew remind him that wasn't he really into getting back home what happened to that thought?
They leave, fuck around in the underworld to get some prophecies and some worldly news from the deceased ("PENELOPE??? suitors??!?! We must leave at once, Eurylochus, second-in-command, someone's trying to fuck my throne and take my wife or something along those lines", Odysseus said after talking to his mother's ghost-), they go back to Circe, ask for the way (she tells them), survive some Sirens and some more man-eating monsters (Scylla, baby, you look gorgeous, gorgeous gorgeous girls with tentacles who eat 6 men at once) and leave for the next island.
There they kill the cattle of a Titan which is the STUPIDEST SHIT any Greek man in these tales has ever done, why would you kill cattle of a GOD, OF A TITAN, of the literal SUN-- anyways, all those involved get murked, Odysseus is the last man swimming.
Odysseus lands on the island of Ogygia, where immortal daughter Calypso (of yet another titan btw) keeps him for seven years against his will in more ways than one until Hermes intervenes.
He washes up at yet another island where he's welcomed by the resident king, who hears his story and FINALLY plants his ass back in Ithaca, I've had it and so has he.
There he meets up with his DOG, the most important character in the story, Argos, and also his son I guess (and a few servants?). He disguises himself and participates in a competition his wife, Penelope, designed, where no one could win because her conditions are super Odysseus-specific so only he can win (it's about his bow and only he can string it, she's smart basically), which he ends up doing, then he goes on a killing spree??! Of all the suitors and other involved staff and it's a little over the top, you can tell the monsieur has lost a few marbles during those last ten years there, a lot quicker to draw a sword, as though the Iliad had tried to turn him into a monster and the Odyssey had succeeded by breaking him further (BUT WHEN DOES A COMET BECOME A METEO-).
Penelope has yet another lil test just to make ABSOLUTELY sure it's him post-revelation and he passes that one too and everyone lives happily ever after.
Except for Argos, goddammit.
And the suitors. And the women who slept with the suitors (knowing Greek mythology and society of the time, why would he kill them, what are the odds they did that willingly, I-).
And Odysseus, actually, who is killed a bunch of years later by his other son, who tried to hit him up but doesn't recognise him and ends up killing him because Odysseus doesn't recognise (or know about him, Telegonus, son of Circe, my mother) him either and aTTACs him, so... Yeah!
Odysseus is a very witty man who started out as a family man who kept trying to get out of bullshit but his dormant hubris and his tendency to mess with gods and not want to abide to every immortal's wishes, somehow just turn his so very sharp mind into a paranoia hotspot, a man truly destroyed by war, by life itself, perhaps, by having wanted to not be the Heracles, the Achilles, the, well, ya know, the lot of 'em.
My take of him will perhaps... make him less atrocious~ towards the end there~ but not entirely devoid of shit because hey, that's man to ya. (HE'S JUST A MAN, WHO'S TRYING TO GO HOME, EVEN AFTER ALL THE YEARS AWAY FROM WHAT HE'S KNOWN, HE'S JUST A MAN, WHO'S FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE, DEEP DOWN HE WOULD TRADE THE WORLD TO SEE HIS SON AND WIFE HE'S JUST A MAAAAN--!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
