Adventure Time Watch List
With Fionna and Cake currently airing, a lot of people have gotten interested in possibly watching Adventure Time lately - either for the very first time or returning to the show after having dropped it at some point. I've already started helping a friend watch through the show with me and have talked to other friends who expressed interest in doing the same.
For the above reasons I thought it would be fun and helpful to create a watch list, and then I thought it might be of use to others! It's a list I'd describe as lightly curated, but keeping things extremely easy for anyone to choose how they, personally, would prefer watching the show by leaving all info/options available.
Personally, I think Adventure Time is a show worth watching in its totality! At least once, anyway. But I acknowledge it's intimidating to get into a show with 10 seasons and over 200 episodes, plus some people are mostly interested in specific characters or plots, or have watched through most of the show before and want a faster way to catch up on 'key info' without running through the first five seasons with a fine-tooth comb.
So, the document! It includes:
A key for how I marked every single episode (based on their necessity for understanding the overall plot, which eps introduce and expand on recurring concepts/characters, which are arguably "totally skippable", etc.)
Highlights marking all F&C episodes and each of the mini-series arcs.
Colored hearts which mark major character appearances (Ice King, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline) and significant episodes that center on/continue the arcs of Finn and Jake respectively.
>>> You can view it here! <<<
(if any of my choices on this doc are ones you disagree with, that's fine! but please don't try to argue with me or complain to me about anything if you think something is marked wrong or missing. this was mainly done for personal/friends use. feel free to take this list and use it as a base to make one of your own!)
The idea is that you can use the list to curate your own experience in watching through the show. If you want to watch everything, you can! But maybe you only want to refresh yourself on the main plot, or maybe you only want to watch all of Marceline's episodes, etc etc.
I would like to emphasize one more time this was very casually made. Hopefully, if nothing else, it works for anyone who's interested in AT but doesn't know where to start beyond just watching the show from the beginning.
I also wanted to put out a list like this because I've heard of the existence of watch lists that will recommend skipping a majority of episodes outright, including entire seasons, which ??? sounds absolutely insane to me! Even the earliest seasons of AT contain episodes absolutely crucial to the overall plot!!
(This probably comes from the idea that the earliest seasons of AT are "worth skipping" because they're "not as good" as later seasons, or that early AT is only okay but "gets better" around the middle. I heartily disagree with this; some of my favorite episodes are within the first three seasons. I will of course acknowledge that some of the earliest episodes probably won't suit some folks' tastes even if what comes a little later on definitely will; hence, this list.)
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone interested in watching! If you do give Adventure Time a try, I hope you have a great time with it! It's a fun show and I think watching the whole thing is definitely worth it~

finally posted jinyoung's the devil judge interview that's a japan dvd exclusive!!
translation by @maystea and review by @yohannoir
translation is in the description of the vid
youtube
Ah, yes, about Kim Ga-On's character - he’s an associate judge who is next to Yo-Han. He’s a righteous character that tracks a very mysterious person, Yo-Han and reveals (shines the bright on/tn) truth.
First, the character is really three-dimensional (0:24), so he has a lot of charm. I could shoot it together with Ji-Sung sunbaenim a character who pushes until the very end with him, so I learned a lot. I first saw the news about Ji-Sung hyungnim… Ji-Sung sunbaenim through articles, and I auditioned with a thought that it’s a good thing to make, and in the meeting, fortunately, the director and the writer saw me as really good, and I got to shoot the drama.
I only followed what Ji-Sung hyung told me, so I don’t know if I did well. But it’s a relief that you watched it pleasantly.
(1:07) I thought I would have to become really sharp. I've played a lot of young characters, college students, people in their early 20s and it was my first time playing a slightly older character, so I paid a lot of attention to having to speak more pointedly. (1:35) And the character's emotions change so much that I think I looked at the script a lot in order to go along with those emotions well.
(1:42) I'd seen a lot of things in lots of different genres except for horror, so I didn't feel any difference in that regard. Yes, so there wasn’t a backup plan. Because I originally didn’t have many shootings of judge’s profession; I learned a lot of phrases with the writer.
(2:06) There wasn't really anyone who was the "mood maker" on set. I don't think anyone had a really great sense of humor... Sorry, sunbaenim. So it wasn't like we were really laughing a lot. But I think we all tried to make sure everyone was having a good time.
(2:13), but everyone was doing it (probably: approached/tn) each other happily since the structure of the drama itself was heavy; if we were being serious, I was worried whenever that would be too much, myself. Although my character has bright sides, in reality I was trying to be brighter. Because the longer the harder it would be to remain serious, so I said to myself: “Just let’s be enjoyably bright.”
At the end of ep. 4, Yohan goes out hugging Elijah/with Elijah in his arms, when I saw (2:51). When they saw such a terrible sight. I really liked that scene. I thought that everything was really contained in that one shot of Ji Sung hyung. I really liked that scene, Jisung-hyung's only heart, I thought he was hugging his everything. My favorite line is, um, “The judge is the strongest when they follow the law.” Everything in the reality of the drama is so horrible, but... (3:17), I think this line shows the efforts of a character who still tries to protect something, and I like that.
(3:31) I thought it would really be a shame to show too simple of a character-- too simple emotions. The director never okayed it if I showed emotions too simply. That's how I wanted it, too. And they really did a good job of filming the emotions that came up naturally. So I tried not to show one-dimensional emotions. I think I paid a lot of attention to that. (3:41), I never laughed/smiled. I wanted that as well. And they shouted the emotions that came naturally well. That is why I was worried about the emotions coming out at first try (and tried to prevent it).
(4:00) First of all, I learned a lot at the shooting scene. At every scene, he (Ji-Sung or writer or director/tn) told me everything. It was like I met a teacher. (That’s why) he’s always (a/the) sunbaenim I should be always thankful to. (4:20) There weren't a lot of funny scenes. I had  lot of scenes where I had to cry... I only have memories of crying (laughs).
(4:35) They set the atmosphere like that for you, so rather than saying that I cried, it's more like they made it so that you couldn't help but cry.
Interviewer: ah, but the tear scenes are so… they are so real. I guess I’m a crybaby [laughs]. I guess I just want to cry.
It’s a drama that can be shot and made once, I think. I had a lot of worries about how should I shoot this since I wasn’t sure how, but I still had the greed to shoot it. I ran to it at all costs, I think I should walk to it a little bit more, (still) it’s a work that I could catch (work on, make my own/tn).
Yes, sure. Even now I’m hardworkingly recording, and (5:27) that drama is still airing. I’m trying hard to make/play characters who are different from Gaon.
My routine-first, after The Devil Judge, I didn’t have many proper days-off, so sport/exercising. Waking up in the morning, eating a breakfast that is not heavy, home work, laundry [laughs]. Well, about laundry and cleaning, (5:57) I think all I do is laundry and cleaning.
Something like, when you just come back home and work, when I saw a clean house, I (felt like) I rested well. If the house is dirty, I cannot watch it, so (because) I cannot handle it for too long I cleaned it myself. “I should do it,” it bothered me like this. (6:17) I can't stand the sight of it, so even when I don't have a lot of time to sleep, I clean and then sleep. I have to do that to feel relaxed. It's not that I have this really clean personality, it's just that I can't look at things piling up. With clothes too, if I don't wear them a lot, I just get rid of them. I don't have that strong a sense of wanting to own stuff, so when I see things pile up, I think, "I have to hurry up and clean this."
I'm not that tidy type of a person, I cannot watch the (6:27) … . (The same for clothes,) if I see many clothes, I will just throw them to the laundry. I don’t have that (6:34), just looking at the size (makes me go) “Ah, clean it up, you boy. I need to (handle it) to the laundry,” in my thoughts.
(6:42) I'm a hypochondriac, so I think I really look after my health.
I’m a healthy man. I think I’m doing really great in laundry and (being) healthy.
Hello. I'm actor Park Jinyoung who plays the role of Kim Gaon. I'm very curious about how you watched the drama. I would like it to be the drama that would remain in your memory for a long time. I will meet you in another drama in an even cooler role. Thank you.

Be My Favorite - Final clowning before the finale - building on the themes of the show
Look I know I already posted after ep 11 but I have less than 24 hours before I get to watch the finale and my brain is whirling
Okay so I wrote this and in writing this the end did not go where I was expecting it to go so I'm 1 tagging more people in case y'all want to read and 2 telling you to feel free to skip down to 'so what do I think is going to happen' because I was kind of getting my brain in order before that.
(Added in at the end, this went way further than I thought so I'm tagging people based off my own interactions and @twig-tea's posts @grapejuicegay @lurkingshan @dribs-and-drabbles @williamrikers @waitmyturtles @stuffnonsenseandotherthings @pandasmagorica @benkaaoi @thegalwhorants @telomeke @ginnymoonbeam @he-is-lightning-in-a-bottle I'm not really building on a lot of other peoples meta specifically so I was unsure about tagging people, sorry if I didn't tag you and you wanted to be or I did and you didn't want to be)
Back after episode 5 I put forth the following hypothesis:
My Original Hypothesis: Kawi is going to be faced with the ultimate choice of remaining in the past or the present when the crystal ball runs out of charge and he will choose to remain in the past where he must face his uncertain future.
I also posited that the time travel was a metaphor for being unable to skip ahead in life without consequences. and that
Kawi and the people around him freeze in their character development whenever he jumps forward, so maybe his present is actually in the past.
Last episode
Now a lot of this has already played out, and Kawi kind of ultimately decided to stay in the past Last episode before that future got erased (if it did, there has been some compelling speculation around this please see @twig-tea's meta round up) I'm going off it got erased.
The difference last episode was that the future that got erased was one that was actually lived out (like Kawi's OG future) rather than one that got jumped ahead too.
This by the way is why I still feel reasonably strongly that Kawi and Piseang are only similar levels now despite Piseangs future knowledge (provided the timeline is significantly altered which my current thoughts say it will be).
Now what I actually want to talk about is that I still firmly believe that the crystal balls own limits will come into play. (okay so I do believe this but my thoughts kind of wandered in a different direction)
Choosing our Present
This show has been incredibly smart, and the emphasis on Kawi choosing his own present is something I still feel will come into play, even if it's a combined choice between Kawi and Piseang in Ep 12
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Images of Old Guy saying: Think less about the future...make the most of the present...but first you should be sure where your present is]
Now half the reason I made my original long post (after ep 5) was because lots of people were speculating about Kawi eventually choosing to live on in uncertainty in the future and I honestly think with Piseang on equal grounds this is more likely than I thought it was back in ep 5. Even though it's still not my preferred theory.
(honestly there is so many good ways this show could end that I wasn't going to bother to make a post but thoughts were whirling so here we are)
Also we do not know if the Crystal Ball allows TWO PEOPLE TO TRAVEL - if it did I feel like this would be more okay??
(Just to be clear I don't know if anyone has speculated about them travelling together but it's something I'd been speculating about to myself lol)
So if Kawi and Piseang do go the route of staying in the future ONE OF THEM WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE LONG ROAD.
Now that they are both aware and have come back, once Piseang tells Kawi the truth (which I believe he will do early in the Ep) if they do decide to go forward WHAT does this mean for the frozenness/consciousness implications???
this is a key reason I think the past may be the ultimate choice, they both had to live forward slowly once and jump back, If Piseang were to jump forward with Kawi KNOWING of this jump, I just don't think it would ever be the same.
I am aware jumping forward had memory fill in but I just feel like the show, to me, has made it pretty clear that jumping forward is like skipping ahead and the time's in between are only half remembered and beyond your control.
Even if Piseang has already lived them...he won't ACTUALLY HAVE LIVED THEM...to me anyway.
So what do I think is going to happen?
there may be one more jump forward (&back in my opinion) by Piseang as he tries to go the route of fixing the future
If he jumps back to the future IT WILL BE MEANINGFULLY DIFFERENT (Maybe he and Kawi won't be together anymore) so he'll go back again
as for the rest, I'm sticking with my original post-ep11 prediction, but I also expand on it more below
Fighting for our Future by Fighting in the Present
Like maybe they've both had a chance to live to the future, and now they have to fight for a better one? Our adorable relationship montage didn't include much fighting and given we had the LGBTQIA+ POWER Episode a few weeks ago that got everyone up and writing, I feel like the message in the last episode could focus back in on these themes in a way that would be INCREDIBLY satisfying. Especially now they've BOTH been to the future and come back.
I can see how thematically Piseang staying in the past now may feel unfulfilling, like he only got a do-over because of magic, but personally, the message that I have felt most strongly through the show is about the dangers of being passive so let me explain:
None of our characters were fighting for what they wanted in the OG future:
Max had given up and gone overseas
Piseang had given up and was marrying Pear
Who knows how Pear felt but Piseang didn't actually love her so she may have felt like she was settling even if it wasn't conscious
Kawi has just given up entirely
(Kwan and Not were probably in a horribly unfulfilling one sided friends with benefits arrangement but who knows)
We have seen that Kawi coming back and choosing not to be passive has had a huge impact on everyone's lives.
When Kawi and Piseang get together they sort of move back into passivity
@bengiyo in particular has pointed out that Kawi doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot in his domestic bliss, now there's nothing wrong with that but this show has SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT FIGHTING FOR QUEER RIGHTS I just feel like the happy montage is meant to feel off because they've stopped fighting
Piseang and Kawi have achieved their personal goals but what about the goals of all queers?
And then what happens? Kawi get's seriously sick and Piseang is not considered his family because outside their perfect bubble of calm the world hasn't agreed that they're equal
There was an unrelated tumblr post that circled through my dash this week about how the priorities of queer people changed with the AIDS epidemic and the death of a lot of people. The voices of the minority stopped saying: take us as we are, and started saying: we'll be whatever you want.
I feel like epiosde 11 was kind of accidently tied into this. Kawi and Piseang have got their bliss and live in it. Yet when push comes to shove their bliss is shattered by not being considered each others family because in a way, they kind of stopped fighting.
There is a lot of division right now, and things seem to be going backwards in some places, most prominantly the USA, People from the queer community thinking they've got what they wanted so they can stop fighting and while yes, everybody has to live their own exhausting lives already and it sucks that everyday is a struggle just because you weren't born as some sort of norm. But the fact of the matter is, change is only going to happen and keep happening if we never give in, celebrate the victories yes...but stop because our personal goal has been reached?
So ultimately I think Ep12 is about how everyone, everywhere, will keep being affected by the inequality unless we all keep fighting. that descending into passivity, (whether it be sad or blissful), will have consequences, even if those consequences are many years down the line.
That is why I think it will be satisfying if they stay in the past
That is what I think the takeaway of the show will be.
If this isn't the goal of the show then the ending will for sure be different!! I'm honestly looking forward to what it is even if I'm totally off base.
Mostly this has been the first show that I've been engaged in here on tumblr from nearly the start. It has been an absolute blast clowning with you all.

okay i have a confession...i never liked ashton...i tried, especially when we found out he has chronic pain and a legitimate reason for being an asshole...but i just can't get on board with him and often roll my eyes at his scenes. and that last convo with laudna made me so frustrated bc it seemed like he was totally emotionally dismissive and wanted to play the "i had it worse" olympics. i've never disliked a cr character before and i don't know what to do about it. any advice? or anything that you particularly like about ashton that could help me get on board a little?
hi anon thanks for asking! unfortunately i can't help you a huge amount because i also! have never liked ashton and have historically had trouble finding reasons to like them. but i will try my best to help
well the first thing i'd say is i don't think you need to find reasons to get on board with ashton. interrogating your feelings about a character is always good to take in the full depth of their behavior, but if you go through that whole process and you STILL don't like them then maybe they just aren't your cup of tea. which is totally valid and acceptable!!! and i know it's not easy to dislike something about a show you love so much, but i'd say just try and sit with that and tell yourself that you're allowed. there are so so many fish in the cr sea and you're far from expected to love each one
that being said if you still want to hear my thoughts here they are! (it got very very long)
i've seen a few people mentioning that ashton might've intentionally started that conversation with laudna because he knew she specifically would be in the position to shoot them down. a sort of self-inflicted scolding, i think. watching the ep, i also got the sense that he was intentionally trying to upset her by bluntly phrasing things to dig into her trauma and i think it makes sense based on what we know about them. maybe he wanted someone to yell at him and tell him he's being weak (in a lot of ways similar to early-c2 caleb's pervasive self-hatred driving him to intentionally seek out places/people with which he is made to feel like shit). or maybe he needed someone else to look him in the eye and tell him "stop hiding and let the people around you help you." maybe they needed a reason to say out loud that they're only with the hells bc they're using them, because that's the only way they can hear themself and how ridiculous and false that sounds. who knows! regardless, i think it's uninformed to say that tal wasn't doing this on purpose. it means something, and it opened up something that will most certainly have some growth and ultimately resolution later
this is kinda separate but we could also get into the details of his word choice, like what did he mean by "i know a loneliness that you don't" was he just talking about a certain kind of loneliness that he perceives to be distinct from the loneliness that many other of the party members have experienced? (worth pointing out that bells hells is a party full of people defined by their loneliness in many ways. food for unrelated thought) is it true that ashton's loneliness is unique to them and no one else in the party? is it even meaningful to put people's loneliness into different boxes? how has loneliness affected the way they distance themself from some people vs. the way they latch protectively onto other people? maybe those questions are of interest to you!
i think ashton is a very meaty character with a lot of complicated stuff going on and tal loves to create characters like this, characters defined by arrogance or a self-aggrandizing belief in their own suffering, or characters who are intentionally and unrelentingly abrasive. they become likable and compelling because of the underlying context and past and often conflicting and changing behavior over time.
it's just that those types of characters will always be a little polarizing, and i personally have a LOT of trouble enjoying tal's characters, because that's just my personal preference. they are complicated and juicy but they historically just do not do it for me. i was very incensed by that conversation with laudna because i am a laudna stan above all else and i thought ashton was being Awful to her, even if i can understand that they knew they were being awful and had reasons to be that way. the important thing is that i recognize it's a double-standard in my own mind and i know that about myself, and i'm not being a willingly narrow-minded jerk to the fans who like ashton and were thrilled by the convo. but i don't have to feel forced to like them and read/reblog meta about how sad they actually are etc etc. you know what i mean?
anyway at the risk of going on a tangent where i complain about that convo for no real reason related to your question, i will stop talking now. hope this helps in some way or another! your feelings are valid and you definitely are not alone in struggling with this character, if the posts and tags i've seen the past few days are any indication. just be nice to people and it will be all good. cr characters are fictional but cr fans are not <3

hi! i was wondering how you felt about that "one" scene in winx club that was banned? did the scene go differently in the original italian version?
as a black girl who loves winx, it was sad for me to see </3 im just curious how the reception in other places was
Hi there! First of all, I have the banned episode from this ancient Mondo DVD, since it's been taken down from youtube and other streaming services, even in italian. I will sub this ep regardless of the infamous scene, since I don't think there's anything controversial outside of that
In short, TLDR, in my humble opinion, the scene is racially insensitive and overly meanspirited from the heroines we should root for. The average italian kid didn't think much of it when it aired and re-ran, Italian adults lack the cultural context of black hair outside the country so most didn't understand the complaints and non-white italians did not seem to make any noise about this online. If anybody can prove me wrong is welcome to provide sources that I missed.
More under the cut!
There was some disco resurgence in the early 2000s around, in Italy and Japan, so that's what inspired the scene, likely.
Tumblr media
A frog! With an afro!
Tumblr media
Bucatini dance!
Is there a history of discrimination over textured and curly hair in Italy? As far as I know, no. You see white people with dreads and braids all the time and for historical reasons, curly and textured hair is common in people's genes. From what I've seen from italian forums and social media, I have read no complaints from black italians about the scene, so it definitely didn't move the italian black community or anything to stir any controversy.
Alright. With that out of the way... As a kid, I didn't think too much of the scene. I didn't think "wow, that hair is bad/ugly/something mean", or anything of the sort, and this seems to be the general sentiment from other italian watchers. I didn't think anything of the poor black girl being mocked. Being from a filler episode, the scene is rather forgettable to the average euro person.
I thought the hair wasn't even normal afro hair. And so did many others, according to italian social media posts...
I thought it had become JELLO! The hair is shiny and makes a strange noise when Bloom touches it. I'm still sure it's jello.
Bloom touching the hair unprovoked is also kind of nasty.
Tumblr media
Some don't believe it's jello at all and I can't fault them for it, since the poor girl doesn't say any details. Just that her straight hair turned into "this thing".
Tumblr media
The language used in this scene is meanspirited.
"What did she put on her head?" is a bit too much from Stella. You see a girl crying and you mock her?
Tumblr media
The Winx don't even do anything for her, just standing back and watching. The Trix mocking her is one thing, but the Winx could have tried to help, only for them to give up as the girl has a breakdown, I dunno, better than nothing or Bloom's terrible attempt. The whole scene isn't easy to save and I don't think anybody should bother, not even the 4Kids edit improves it much. Just cut it out.
The joke was likely at afro hair looking funny itself, rather than make the black girl seem undesiderable for having an afro, as I've read from some interpretations. All italians I've read and asked agree that they didn't think maliciously of the scene as kids nor now. At least there's that.
A surprising amount of people thought the scene wasn't racist at all though, and couldn't understand why would this be offensive, while those who agreed it was bad still argued that banning the episode was too much.
The italian side has been very focused on the whitewashing discourse, though. Not since Magical Adventure as some have noted, but ever since the fairy couture dropped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are from 2022! What have they done to Aisha!
Anyway, thanks for reading all the way there. I'd like to hear more opinions, provided they're brought in a civil manner. Because I've seen a lot of nastyness on this argument and I'd rather not deal with trolls.

when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom? I watched Bad Buddy in one week, in late October 2022. I owe it to @airenyah honestly. I think I found their blog through an SPN post and clicked over for that reason. In my scrolling, I happened upon a lovely gifset (wish I could recall who made it) of InkPa. It was the scene where they're outside and Pa says anyone taller than her is fine and hops down off the sidewalk. :) Love that scene. Anyway I reblogged it and in the tags was like WHAT IS THIS I MUST WATCH IT. To which airenyah gave me a whole blessed reply telling me the show name, giving a small synopsis/what to expect from my first thai drama & telling me where I could watch it. I immediately watched the series and adored it. I've seen it twice thus far.
favorite ship(s) PatPran & InkPa :)
favorite character(s): Okay I adore all the main 4 but I'm gonna go with Pran. I love him. There's just something so soft about him and how on earth do his eyes communicate so much?? I think I relate to his messy little overthinking and silently in love brain—very "me the first time i had a queer crush and simply wallowed the whole time bc it was impossible" lol. Also, he's always making the funniest facial expressions which gets me every time. I could go on about everything I like about his character (for instance how clever yet sometimes oblivious he is & how he gets all annoyed lol). Though I do question his sense of interior design and that smiley face obsession.
favorite episode(s) Honestly I'm not certain if I have one?? It's all so good! I do really like their "whoever falls first loses" era though. Wait actually?? My favorite ep might be the early one where Pat thinks he's hitting on the "girl" across the hall and they end up running into each other on the roof. Also both of the beach episodes.
favorite scene(s) *pastes in the entire show* Okay okay I'll try to pick a few:
~ The scene where Pat is staying over and he and Pran are lying in the dark, counting down to say in unison whether they have a crush on Ink. Idk I remember that scene having an emotional impact on me. Pran's face??? Then when Pat asks "would you like me?" and Pran says "I hate you" and then he yanks the blanket away but you saw him crying?? ahhhghrhghgh
~ The scene in the darkroom with Ink and Pa. I remember getting so emotional. Pretty sure Pa's dialogue and acting made me cry. "I do [like you being nice to me]. I like it so much that I thought I was special to you." ARE YOU KIDDING ME ASDFGZ. And then Ink says she is special to her!! And it's so sweet!!
~ OH and how could I forget. This should be at the top of the list. I realllly like the scene where Pran stands up to his mom and they have that emotional fight in their front hall. That whole thing is just. AHHHHHH. AHHH. AHIOFJEIOsdJIO. SIJDGRIOGJRIGJORE
~ And the scene at the stairs where Pat yells how much he loves Pran in front of Pran's whole faculty. :)
(Also any scene where Pat & Pran are being silly. Like their dumb little chopstick fight :p omg or the designing the bus stop at night scene)
one thing you would change about the show if you could Ohhhh I don't know! Maybe I'd throw in a few more InkPa scenes :)
what are your some of your favorite fanworks made by other people? Ahh fun fun fun. Get ready for some fanvid recs! (What else do you expect from me, a fanvidder.)
• Just My Type (Pat x Pran) by samyvids • Physical (Pat x Pran) by coldties • Enchanted (Ink x Pa) by rheaprodz • I really like you (Pat x Pran) by dkyth73 • Rebels (Pat x Pran) by coldties • Dandelions (Pat x Pran) by hylian fanvids
(if you create fanworks) what are your favorite fanworks that you’ve made? I've made two fanvids for Bad Buddy, as well as one song cover haha. I'll stick to the fanvids here. :)
• All I Need (Ink x Pa) • That dimple is illegal (Pat x Pran)
a song that makes you think of bbs (the ones in the show don’t count lol) Physical by Dua Lipa. The fanvid using that song is my all-time favorite BBS edit, so hearing the song reminds me of it.
idk anything else you want us to know? Uhhhhhhhh. I mean I could ramble about BBS and why it means so much to me for a long time haha. Should I do that? I guess I'll do that.
Okay so BBS was the first Thai drama I watched. I was still feeling a lot from the SPN-finale/confession scene era (yes that happened 2 years prior but it's SPN okay iykyk) which had me especially sad about and aware of media censorship etc. etc.
On top of that I was still working up the courage to leave this group chat of childhood friends, some of whom liked to complain about media "making everything gay" etc. (Amazing how you can not know people are homophobic for the entirety of your childhood bc the topic just never comes up lol.) Which was of course upsetting to me for multiple reasons. However the universe decided to do something nice and Heartstopper was released. That series felt really huge to me, but after it was over, I was left with this feeling of like... what else is there to watch? Where else will I ever find a queer ship this canon where they're also the main characters?
That's when I came across BBS and it gave me this realization that OH WAIT we aren't limited to western media and OH LOOK there's so many great shows that I didn't even know about!! And they keep making them! Also it was a queer story where the main obstacle wasn't being gay (Plus, Asian leads!!). And BBS itself is just such a standout show. First of all, I love a good comedy and the series made me laugh so much. It's heartfelt but full of ANTICS [like yes lets have fun! Lets not take everything too seriously!], and Pat & Pran & Ink & Pa are just such wonderful and lovable and real feeling characters—who have this lovely friendship too—and the show is just! Such a fun ride. <3 I recall watching the series and feeling like my world just got a little bit bigger. Anyway Bad Buddy goes all in for everything it does and it's such a joy.
.
Tagging @airenyah and @distant-screaming and @feralmuskyscentedhoepran if you haven't done this yet and would like to!

AG Watchthrough Episode 1: Get the Show on the Road! AG001. Long Post, I promise they won't all be this long, this is AG commentary georg, outlier.
Well. Outlier until contest episodes. I won't apologize for who I become once we hit those. Anyways, RE: above. There's usually not TOO MUCH of a plot in AG eps to even comment on, hence this post as an outlier for the pilot episode. So! Starting a full AG watch. I have never fully watched all of AG by sitting down with the intent of watching all of it. I have seen all of it, but not in a directed, intentional, in-order way. Changing that today to really see how it holds up as a whole outside of the episodes I tend to gravitate towards! I don't think I'll realistically follow through with this for more than a week. Going to be honest. BUT I HOPE TO! We'll see. The plan is to watch episodes in bulk but schedule posts once a day. Posts will likely get pretty long for some episodes, short for others, because AG is wildly varying in 'things to talk about' episode to episode. Anyways, episode 1: Get the Show on the Road! AG001.
Side note. I think I will put this in relevant character tags if I have any commentary on specific characters. One, so I can find my own posts. But two, I know as someone who likes characters who don't always get a whole lot, it's SO EXCITING to see people talking about them, so on the off chance there's, like, a Morrison fan out there, I think I should put it there??? Like, I'll read Hoenn Coordinator commentary from 2013 to feel something, so I want to be able to provide that on my end, too. I'd be heartbroken if someone did an in depth ep-by-ep analysis on them but didn't tag it so nobody could see it. ANYWAYS!!! I'll play it by ear and do it when it feels relevant and not just 'yeah this person showed up, I guess'. I don't want to be annoying but also you can just block the #ag watchthrough tag. Or just block me, I guess lmao.
So, the episode opens where the last episode of Master Quest left off (OS274, Hoenn Alone). Basically, Pikachu has electric rabies and May is getting her first pokemon.
The episode opens with May giving her internal monologue/narration about starting her journey. She hits her head on a tree, which may explain some of her decisions later in the series (/joke), but she's on her way to Birch Lab to get her first pokemon. Does she want to? Not really, but she DOES want to travel and this is a way to accomplish that. This is instance one of what I'm dubbing 'Early AG Girlboss May'. (Basically, in Early AG May was more of a go-getter. Or rather, she had more agency and opportunities to get her own way. Early AG May is far more... frankly, shown to be intelligent, which drops off rather quickly in favor of big of heart, dumb of ass May [whom I do love dearly]. I think it's largely done to emphasize Ash's mentor role and her student role, but I digress). I can and will make a separate post on this if anyone wants my thoughts on her character inconsistencies. But for now, just know she's not a fan of pokemon but will deal with it to have a chance to travel the world. She has a goal, she will get it done and use what's at her disposal. Anyways, behold. A girlboss in her natural habitat.
Tumblr media
Now, we switch to Ash and Pikachu, alone and Brock and Misty-less (well, until the mirage special. I'll... get to that when the time comes, I guess...sigh).
We also find out Jessie's been to Littleroot before. I, uh, don't know if that was ever expanded upon??????? WAIT same thing after iirc spontaneous combusken where she makes some comment about young love and heartache and stuff. Jessie has some weird backstory in Hoenn (well, SC is Kanto but yk) that I don't remember ever hearing more about? Huh. Anyways. You'll notice a pattern of this in AG, of random interesting details being brought up and immediately forgotten.
Back to Ash. No pokemon center in the town, so he's headed to the Lab, where May's headed too. Birch is 'out conducting an experiment', so Ash just hangs around until he can go to the lab.
Tumblr media
IN COMES BIRCH WITH THE JEEP!!! Ash's uber is here.
Tumblr media
After giving Pikachu a quick look-over, Birch explains that Pikachu can't release its electricity regularly so it's all building up and getting a bit explodey. Apparently it's due to magnetic field exposure, and I won't question the science or lack thereof. Birch, fascinatingly, doesn't question when Ash explains that Pikachu was strapped to a magnet. Anyways, Birch's driving remains amusing to me.
Tumblr media
Look at him go. This is fine and normal. Average Maryland driver.
Tumblr media
Anyways, they get to the lab and hook Pikachu up to, quote, 'A device that will rid Pikachu of all its trapped electricity'. It goes bad. Another pattern you'll notice in AG- lots of explosions. Not just Team Rocket blasting off (solarbeam, go), either, just... lots of general, everyday explosions.
Tumblr media
So, Pikachu quite literally blows a hole in the side of the lab and escapes in a frenzied state. Ash runs after Pikachu with no other pokemon, Birch follows Ash with the three Hoenn starters, and Joshua the lab assistant is like "WAIT what about that girl we're going to give her first pokemon to- oh, okay bye I'll figure that out myself then".
Team Rocket's... here, I guess. Another AG pattern we'll notice. They show up. they blast off. they leave. rinse and repeat. Jessie is depressed this time around I guess.
Anyways, says Pikachu could explode at any sudden disturbance, so that's a hell of a way to start off here. New season with the beloved mascot? Yeah, he's about to explode. Sorry about that. So, Ash and Birch split up to look for the imminently detonative rodent.
Switching over to May now, who shows up at the lab. Joshua explains that Birch has an emergency in the mountains to deal with and asks May to wait there.
May does not wait there ("I've never been much good at waiting! Bye!"). Joshua uses one of his, like, four lines to complain about kids these days. Instance two of Early AG Girlboss May, having, uh, an actual choice that she can make that isn't just travelling with the group in the back until a contest episode and then going back to travelling with the group in the back. Brock and Max get this FAR worse, though, a topic for a few episodes later.
SO. Birch and Ash are split up looking for Pikachu still. Birch slips and falls and we get a reference to the opening of RS(E, but E has Zigzagoon iirc), with Birch being bullied by puppies. Take note of May's bike in the back. Last we'll be seeing of it. I wonder if she got a new one in the johto arc that we never got to see. Sigh.
Tumblr media
We aren't quite halfway done with the episode yet.
Anyways, Birch asks her to help him out and to choose a pokeball. She chooses Mudkip, who promptly water guns her in the face. I guess Mudkip is like a horse or something, it can sense fear. Or rather, it can sense dry apathy and mild dislike. Birch directs Mudkip to use watergun on the Poochyena, which it does.
Ash finds Pikachu and is promptly electrocuted. Badly. But he's fine.
...He's fine, right?
Tumblr media
Birch and May see the thunderbolt and rush on over. We get this line from Birch, which admittedly did make me laugh.
"Pikachu. It might explode."
LIKE. OKAY THEN! Way to tell it like it is, bud. Then, seeing Ash, he yells, "PIKACHU COULD EXPLODE AT ANY MOMENT!" So, things are going absolutely perfectly great here. Pikachu panics at the noises and runs right off of a cliff, and Ash dives right after it.
We are interrupted by who's that pokemon.
It's Lanturn. 👍
Ash is falling, he catches Pikachu and a branch and is dangling. Birch and May get a rope and pull him up. Pikachu bites Ash and feels bad about it. Ash doesn't really acknowledge the random person there (May) but to be fair, he's got other stuff going on.
Team Rocket shows up. Pikachu blasts them off and releases electricity that way. Get REALLY USED to the team rocket portions being blown through like this. Just trust me on this, I'm doing us all a favor here. AG TR is REALLY FUNNY when they're funny!!! But... all the great one liners can't make up for the repetition of AG TR. Moving on. Pikachu feels better now (well, he passed out but isn't sick anymore), and....
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Yep. Bike barbecue'd. 2 for 2 now, we all saw it coming, there it is!!!
They go back to the lab. May eavesdrops on Birch, Ash, and Joshua, and knocks over a flowerpot, alerting them to her presence. She introduces herself and Birch asks May to choose her first pokemon. Ash asks if Treecko is a water type. It is not. May chooses Torchic!!!!! Birch tells May that if she works hard, she can be an even better trainer than her father. I'm sure we all know who that is but it's meant to be a mystery at this point so let's all act intrigued.
I'm going to expedite the end of the episode. May inspects her bike, it's dead, she goes in and sees Ash asleep next to Pikachu and seems to think their bond is nice, even if she herself doesn't care for pokemon. She just watches them through the cracked door, slightly weird but go off queen, and she attempts to bond with Torchic.
NOW. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS GOING TO BE A RECURRING THEME. MAY IS TALLER THAN ASH IN THIS EPISODE. ALL THROUGHOUT AG, THE HEIGHTS ARE HILARIOUSLY DIFFERENT. I will be pointing out amusing examples of this. AG001: May is tallest. I am making a spreadsheet and keeping track. This gets far funnier when Morrison and Drew come into the picture and we get to just watch it wildly vary every single episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, Ash AND May are sent off to register for the Hoenn League in Oldale.
SO, this is interesting and another instance of Early AG Girlboss May. May doesn't want to go alone on foot, and her bike is ruined. So, she plays this pretensive game of "oh, my bike is ruined (thanks to you), and I don't want to travel alone on foot, if only there was some solution- OH I KNOW! Let's go together, I happen to know the way, it's no trouble at all, shall we?". This interests me because it shows... manipulation is the wrong word here, but again, like, it shows pretense?? that May generally lacks once her characterization firms up a bit. They're still figuring out writing her at this point, I guess, and we see her be more calculated and thinking and using things and situations and people to achieve her goals. Again, this does drop off into dumbass territory before too long, but it is interesting to see and to think about. When writing May I try to strike a balance- more emotionally intuitive and more of a go-getter like early ag, but not in that premeditated sort of way. She's interesting with the amount of wiggle room you have in her personality, because it simply isn't the most consistent. You get to pick and choose a bit more.
But the episode ends, and May and Ash head on over to Oldale town to register for the league.
End of episode metrics:
Height ranking: May > Ash.
More metrics will be added as we go on. I considered an explosion counter but I would lose track. We're already at like, six /not joking, deadass.

Silver Talks AniManga (14/04/24)
suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper late post this week, not only cause I started a buncha new stuff but I was also traveling on the weekend which cut off a ton of my free time (imas could've been last week but subs were late for a whole week 😒) also GBC and BA might not be on the corresponding sunday post for the ep that aired that week cause of their sub situation. Should be fine for GBC, but I ain't putting up with terrible subs for BA so I'd rather wait a couple days for better ones (even if I could watch the bad ones and understand it no problem)
but anyway, lots of yappin this time around, next week should be a lot more chill

Anime
Girls Band Cry Ep1-2
this one is quite the ride for me. when it first got announced I was gonna watch it cause nari is the character designer and I love their art and it's a cute girls show. then it was revealed it was gonna be cg and I changed my mind. then the ep came out and people were praising it so I was like, "ok maybe I could watch despite it being cg". but then I saw a clip where it looked really bad so I was like "oh ok I was right not to watch it nvm" BUT THEN I saw a different clip that looked super good so after some deliberation I decided to watch it anyway and it turns out it's actually REALLY GOOD? like if every cg show was this level of quality I wouldn't be such a hater the op and ed(s) were really good too but they better be when it's a show about a band lol. the real ed (the one from ep2) has all the art done by nari which is super cool ep 2 was really good too, ep 1 had already convinced me to watch all of it, but still nice to see 2 being good as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Idolmaster Shiny Colours Ep1-2
while I was watcing GBC I was thinking "man the cg being this good is gonna make SC look even worse" and sadly I was right. Now, it's not terrible mind you but just like the ML anime, coming in the heels of something like the U149 anime which not only was traditionally animated but also had incredible direction with the quality art to back it up, it feels very bland. Luckily for it, it has the imas spice and, repeat it after me, I Am Not Immune To Idols. It's amazing how they get my ass every damn time... It's a shame that my lantica girls already had their episode so early since they're my favourites of the launch units but I'm sure they'll get at least one more at some point, along with a little more screentime every now and then like the others did on ep2 but anyway Ep1 was basically teasing the different units while introducing mano and getting her together with the other two. While ep2 was mostly about lantica with some small bits with the other groups spliced in. After ep1 I thought they weren't going to follow the usual formula of dedicating 1 episode per girl and/or unit but after 2 I'm not sure anymore. There's only 12 eps so if they do 1 ep per unit, while having little bits for the other ones, that would take us up to ep 5/12. We already know that there's gonna be a s2 with straylight and noctchill so we know they're not gonna show up in this season. I guess they could do a wing episode for each of the units which would put us up to 9/12 leaving the remaining episodes for big group episodes with everyone but we'll see.. Also speaking of s2, there's still 2 more units that weren't confirmed for it and since this s1 has 4 units you think it'd make sense for s2 to have 4 units as well. However the 2 units that haven't been confirmed are related to each other, in a way, so I could totally see them doing a s3 with just those units, since I don't think they'll introduce another unit any time soon. But anyway I'm starting to ramble and talking too much about meta. TL;DR: show shouldn't be cg and bandai can damn well afford a traditional show but they're greedy. other than that it's good ofc. like I said with ML, if you like any of the imas anime you'll like this. if you like the game/girls you'll like it as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night Ep1-2
this got announced around the same time as GBC and I posted about it as well. I was going to watch it just because it was a dogakobo original and I like the studio and it seemed like a nice cute girls show. As the season came closer I wasn't sure about watching it anymore but was thinking of giving it the good ol 3 episode rule just out of respect to dogakobo. When it did start, something had happened that caused me to change my mind and decide that I wasn't going to watch it. I don't remember what it was anymore but anyway. However my buddy mega did watch it and said it was really good so I decided to give it a shot like originally planned and... it's really good too. The mains being takarie and mikku is a rare combo but very welcome and the show also has that characteristic dogakobo polish to it and the direction is very good as well. I also appreciate the yuri vibes but I'm me so yknow ep 2 was nice as well, both the op and ed are good, and kimura might be a little freak but she's fun. I guess the next episode will be dedicated to the vtuber girl but we'll see
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaiju 8 Ep1
that was a solid first ep, there wasn't anything too impressive to show off so I guess we'll see how it goes in the next episode, but it looked good enough that I'm not too worried about it. shame it's only 1 cour but I'm sure they're planning on adapting it all since the manga is almost over too it'll be nice revisiting these early parts of the story, it wasn't that long ago that I caught up but it's been long enough because it's not weekly that I don't remember the early parts with that much clarity but yeah, ep was nice, good voices, good music, good art (for the most part I thought some shots of mina looked off) and the animation wasn't bad either. if they keep up this quality until the end it'll be a respectable adaptation but I hope they at least give us some sakuga crumbs during the big iconic scenes
Tumblr media
Manga
Astro Royale Ch1
tokyo revengers' wakui ken as left kodansha to come to shueisha with this new series and you can really tell it's the work of a veteran author I didn't know what to expect since I never read/watched TR, outside of seeing some clips and caps here and there, but this was actually really good. the setting and the characters were all set up very well, along with the main trigger that sets off the story. really great use of spread pages as well I've been saying for ages that wsj needs a new hit with some of their biggest hitters ending soon and they seem to think so too since no recent series have really popped off (except kagurabachi [the power of memes]) so they decided to grab another veteran (there's a bunch more in the mag currently). We'll have to see the next handful of chaps but just from this debut I can see this series having the potential to be a hit for sure. I've been doing this long enough that I got a pretty good intuition for this kinda stuff, tho there's always exceptions like me thinking red hood would last and that nue would get axed but I'm usually right for the most part.. anyway the series seems like it'll be fun so looking forward to it, I know people complain that TR went downhill after a certain point but this isn't TR so no point comparing this to it on chapter 1. just trust that the author learned his lesson from whatever went wrong with TR and enjoy the series for what it is, not like it's a sequel or something
Tumblr media
Two on Ice Ch28 (Finale)
well that's over and I don't really got much to say tbh I don't really care about skating so I wasn't interested in this from the beggining and the artist didn't do a great job showing it off either. it was informative but not engaging. there were a few good panels/pages but a lot of big spreads got wasted with tons of expostion instead of showing off the art. I also didn't care about the "villain" at all despite how much the artist loved and pushed him still not one of the worst things I've read on jump that's for sure, just not for me and not interesting enough for me to change my mind and care about. an opposite example of this would be blue box which is a romance series and I thought I wouldn't like it when I started catching up to it and ended up loving it cause it's a lot more engaging

tng night SIGH number four. tonight's eps were uhhh [checks] "lonely among us" and "justice." verdict: idk, i kept getting bored and looking at my phone
"lonely among us" was about a little electric thing that kept hopping bodies. this was initially kind of fun, if stupid, because it seemed SO OBVIOUS that crusher should report missing time right away and she just didn't lol
i do like that deanna finally got something to do (hypnotizing them) but it just made me remember that in tos they werent allowed to do that and this hypnotism could have been an email (vulcan mind meld). i'll get there. i just miss him.
the aliens who wanted to eat live animals were like. unfunny. especially when menacing tasha yar. idk, she always looks incredibly tense and it's starting to make me feel bad for her. she seems to hate everything. poor ms whoever is playing her
data's bit with the sherlock pipe was kinda cringe but i love him anyway. i was VERY mad when picard told him to knock it off. you're stopping him from stimming!!! leave him alone!!! also, in the next episode, he got onto him about babbling and watching data shut down in response was SOOO sad jail for picard for ONE THOUSAND YEARS im glad his ass apologized
unfortunately during the middle of the pipe thing is when i found out about the loz movie via destiel meme (ep was boring i was looking at my phone sorry) so i ruined the best part of the episode for myself
i am coming to understand that generally speaking data is the best part of any given tng episode <3
there was a moment in this episode where wesley was once again right and told to buzz off. in the next episode he does something stupid and they spend the entire time defending him. i DONT understand why it always has to be like this. i don't even dislike wesley, i just dislike the way the other characters are written is reponse to him. he's like the theo teenwolf of tng (dont get me started)
big moment in this ep was the potential mutiny. once again it's too early for this shit. i wanted some episodes where they explore planets and fight some guys (like the ferengi ep!) before we did anything deep. i bet if this happened in like seasons 3-5 i'd be beside myself about it the way i was when it almost happened in tos. but i don't like some of these guys yet, let alone care deeply about them (except data, who is my best friend).
next ep: The Sex Planet. once again, it is inappropriate to be having children on a starship, but it is especially inappropriate to send your fifteen year old """honorary""" """""ensign"""""" down to a planet that you don't know anything about except how they LOVE to fuck. the greeting party literally didn't even know what to do with him if they couldn't feel him up. he had to explain in 1987 hays code that he was a fucking virgin. maybe some research besides "they love to fuck here" would have helped with this situation but also "let's not send the 15yo to the brothel planet" would be a good line of thought too???
anyway he breaks the law has to die and theyre twisting themselves into knots over the prime directive and the setup was ACTUALLY almost interesting except they just beamed away with him in the end without finding a third option, which they could have done like 20 minutes in. also, if theyre trying not to break the prime directive, why are they allowed to tell the aliens they're from space and beam one aboard their ship? like, i actually love ethical questions posed by the prime directive, so this episode is cool on paper, but the execution flopped
oh i nearly forgot worf was bragging about his prowess in bed and how he was too much for weak human partners and riker looked SO intrigued which was like the funniest fucking thing. good for both of them. also it was androidphobia that they didn't let data go to that planet to get laid
anyway, as of now, i have been OFFICIALLY DITCHED. catherine maulthots has decided to let me do s1 and s2 of tng on my OWN and then show her the relevant ones so it's time to watch this shit on 2x speed until i hit the good parts

Veeeethany
beloved Revvetha. Babygirl. Loml
First impression
An early favorite! Tbh I knew she was just my type right from the start of the campaign, but I will cop that at various times she was eclipsed by either Beau (in the early days) or Fjord (in the later days) as my second favorite m9 character. Literally thought she was fantastic from the start, no notes, hilarious, heartfelt, unhinged, and fully lovable babygirl
Impression now
Currently my favorite of the m9! Which I'm sure is very obvious. Beyond what makes her a fun and funny character, over time I've just come to appreciate her depth so much, and all of her internal conflicts. I find her conflicts so relatable, particularly in the end game of the campaign, where she's caught between her home life and adventure, stuck trying to be two people at once and make everyone happy. Her arc can be quiet, but so impactful, and I love to pick it apart and sit with it.
Favorite moment
It's cruel and unusual punishment to make me pick a favorite Veth moment. There are so many I could choose. I'll say my number on pick is her swimming in the pond and the Blooming Grove. What a HUGE character moment that was for her, facing her biggest fear in the dark of night, alone, and comfortable for one of the first times ever. Stunning choice, absolutely hits me in the gut
Also have to shout out her ep 121 one-on-one watch conversation with Caleb, because that might be one of my favorite one-on-ones in the whole campaign.
In terms of funny moment, her bit of trying to interfere with Beau and Yasha's date and her conversation with Beau telling her about the date she's going to have with Yasha is a fucking highlight of my life. I've watched that clip so many times and I'm never not dying by the end of it
Idea for a story
WELL ANON, let me just unpack my fucking BIBLE of things I'd like to write for Veth. We've kind of returned to the "too many to pick" territory here.
I want to (and am actually working on currently) something about Veth talking to a grown-up Luc about the adventuring life. Really anything with Veth and grown-up Luc, I am interested in writing because I'd love to explore what that dynamic would look like, especially since I'd imagine Luc would be very keen on the adventuring life, where Veth had a lot of mixed feeling initially (the fear and anxiety of trying to look after people and be brave that drove her to drink vs the life-changing love and confidence she learned in the process). I just think their contrasting perspectives on the adventuring life would be so interesting to explore!
I am also SUPER interested in doing Veth x Yasha piece at some point. What will the plot be? no idea. but know that I am always thinking about this
Unpopular opinion
She is the most shippable character in the M9. *slaps top of Veth* you can fit so many ships in this halfling, and they're ALL baller
Oh, also I think Revvetha is a hilarious and perfect legal name for her. I am never not laughing abut Revvetha. Additionally, it makes her even more Jewish coded, no I will not elaborate
Favorite relationship
The low-hanging fruit choice here is Caleb because. obviously. I don't feel that I need to explain myself here. Widobrave is my bio. you know.
Secondarily, I love her friendship with Beau! I think they play off each other so well, and I love the way they egg each other to reveal secrets to each other. There's a lot of honestly between them, and they can be very secure that the other is not going to judge them. Also, beau's "you bitch. I know you're fucking down here, you bitch" moment lives in my head rent free always.
Favorite headcanon
Veth learns Sending so that she can talk to Yasha telepathically. I die on the hill that Veth does this one day.
Send me a character!

just want to say thank you so much for appreciating season 4 so much tdp <3 i dont really understand why it is so disliked;  not without his problems, but still sweet, sad and thoughtful
Yeah it's like... 4x01-4x02 is the only time the show is presumably going to have any time for anything remotely resembling filler, which the previous three seasons also had some brief shares of (1x05, 2x04, honestly 3x01 for how much its two plotlines are drawn out the whole ep, and Rayllum's plot line in 3x02). So just like those filler eps, early S4 spends time getting us re-acquainted with the bulk of the main cast (everyone but Rayla really) and the ways they and the world are either different now, or have stayed the same, i.e.
Corvus and Callum have more than two lines of dialogue with each other, Soren is fully integrated as a crown guard, Ezran is being king in a very Ezran-y way (both good and bad), Callum is the same but also fronting and much more serious, and Claudia's stability is hanging on by a thread. Then 4x02 kicks off the plot for Claudia's side of things, and technically also for Callum (and Rayla) with Rayla's arrival, but 4x03 has to accordingly deal with some of that fallout. Claudia's actions directly kick off the plot, and then it's travel and stopping Aaravos time from 4x04 onwards (which again, is structured very similarly to 1x01-1x03 and 2x01-2x03 being the Castle / Moon Nexus arcs respectively). 4x04 gets the audience caught up with the fanatics (S4 is the first season to actually explain what type of elf Aaravos is - a Startouch elf - that he's ancient, etc etc), and Claudia and co. are also given what they need (Sir Sparklepuff) to be set into motion.
As you can see, I don't think the plot of the season bothered people (something if not multiple things are established every episode) but I do think people found some of the character interactions lacking. Which - I'd rather have people be awkward and unfair and not entirely honest with others than themselves and acting like people than anything else. Claudia can be awkward with over sharing (per usual) and Callum can be shut down (it's an interesting character turn and not an entirely unexpected one).
Like I genuinely feel bad for people who were disappointed or didn't like S4! It sucks when a show you love has a bad season you didn't enjoy, and it's not as though that's never happened to me. I just think I've typically either 1) borne it better, 2) got over it and looked at what the show was trying to do to, or 3) saw it coming ahead of time and left, lmao.
Like S4 of Infinity Train is really good but not nearly (to me) on the same level of S3, yet I know people how prefer it, and yeah - it does come down to preferences. JWCC S4 feels like it lost sight of what the show was (a simple fun premise executed very well) by adding in too many elements; I didn't make it past ep3, and the previous season had wrapped up 90% of what I was emotionally invested in anyway and works pretty well as a total finale. TDP wasn't this, as there were still a lot of loose ends following S3, and I think S4 carried them on just fine as well as setting up so many interesting things ahead (much the same way S1 did, and kind of to be expected when Arc 1 was so wrapped up). Getting to see the characters (somewhat) enjoy peace while not knowing the events were in motion to see it all come crashing down was a great sense of dramatic irony, iMO.
Anyway, I loved S4 plenty when I watched it for the first time, and I love it even more now! It's my 3rd fave season, which considering how much I adore and have nostalgia for S1, is saying something. If this is the show's 'lowpoint' I can't think of how even more incredible it's going to be

Holy shit do I have thoughts. Spoilers for Hazbin Hotel ep 7/8
So wow, the final two episodes were pretty damn good. I'd say they were my favorite pair of episodes that released. I think they did good overall, the songs were my favorite bunch of songs overall in the show (I'm really not that big of a fan of the music, it just doesn't click for me in Hazbin or Helluva and I don't know why).
However I do have some issues with the way things happened specifically in episode 8. I mean, I feel like a decent amount of people called Sir Pentious dying, however it happened so quickly that it felt very blink and you'll miss it. I feel like if they had a little bit more of him in the air ship before he got destroyed it would've suited it better, and if they sat on the moment just a little longer. Then again my main complaint with Hazbin is that they speed through things so it's not much of a surprise to me.
Also I know the fact that Adam died by Nifty is hilarious but it really felt so anticlimactic, which I guess is one way to describe a lot of it. The Adam and Alastor fight was the only time during the finale I felt like the emotional moments were actually earned, that felt like a really good moment and it really felt like the shock value was warranted, although Alastor just being like "shit" and then nearly dying is a little lame.
Other than that, I loved the fight, the animation was insane as always, Adam's face was sick too I somehow didn't expect it to be a mask. And it really left room for season 2, which is always a good thing. It had enough mysteries left to where season 2 will have good things to solve, while also being a clean continuation.
Lilith being in Heaven wasn't something I was expecting though, since we see that Sir Pentious dies and goes there (likely because he was redeemed, also I love his design for heaven), does that mean that Lilith was 1. killed, but 2. redeemed? And if so, who killed her and what made her get redeemed? Maybe if you just die in hell, you go there? Which wouldn't that make heaven overpopulated, which would create a cycle of going to hell and then back to heaven. I know that it's said in the beginning that the hell exterminations are for control, which goes against the ideas of the pilot, so I really don't know which one is which.
All I know is that I overall enjoyed the show, while I wasn't a fan of the songs and it felt rushed in many places, it was overall very enjoyable to watch, and I found it very fun and charming. I've been following Hazbin and Helluva for a little over a year now, and while Helluva wasn't living up to its potential in early s2, it's found some type of footing again and I'm glad to see that. I hope the season 2 of Hazbin can slow down a bit and really find it's footing, but overall it was a great show.
7.7/10 in my book, weirdly specific number

My Summer 2023 favs
Like last season, I kept up with four new shows that I vibed with the most! I would love for all these shows to get more episodes (only one has a second season confirmed), but I'm grateful for what we got so far. Masterful Cat still has one more ep but I'm comfy enough to give my thoughts on it a lil early for my seasonal anime post:
Undead Murder Farce: This one I watched kind of on a whim and I am SO glad I did, I fell in love with this cast. Aya Rindo the genius detective who is also an immortal severed head that has one joke she makes about that to wonderful effect, Tsugaru the :> half demon weird silly guy who's also an incredibly skilled fighter, and Shizuku the battle maid who is also very lesbian. The trio is polycule of the season no question. The animation was stylish and cool, the mysteries all had me hooked, humor was on point, and they used a ton of public domain characters from the era in fun and unique ways that all felt true to themselves. I'd love to have more of this one someday.
The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again, Today: This one made me ugly cry the most (seriously just watch the ED and picture Chiral ugly sobbing at it. It hit hard at where I'm at in life rn, and reading the author's note in the first vol of the manga hit home why I think, they said they wrote it when they were very tired and were looking for a reprieve from that, and also really wanted a cat. Something about the premise felt queer to me in a way I can't articulate, but then there were two girls canonically crushing on the main girl Saku so then we got actual queerness. Yukichi deserves all the hugs.
Atelier Ryza: I love the games, so I was really happy to have the first (well part of the first) adapted! Klaudia is my fav and they did so right by the babygorl. Klaudia x Ryza forever 💖
Reborn as a Vending Machine: I don't watch a lot of isekai but this one's premise was so stupid I had to, and it was a nice and fun lighthearted show. I saw someone say you just need a show that's candy sometimes, and this was definitely that. I majorly respect the manga writer's intense hyperfixation on all things vending machine.

Thirteen Era Rewatch: The Woman Who Fell to Earth
I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on. I've tried to keep this organised but it's a bit ramble-y.
I don’t fully understand Graham’s desperation for Ryan to call him Grandad. He married Grace when Ryan was like 16. I can’t imagine many 16yos are going to call their Nan’s new husband Grandad. I don’t think it’s the end of the world bc I love Ryan and Graham’s relationship and watching them grow through the series and I think Ryan changing to calling him Grandad is a good way to represent their growth but it is a little odd imo
Love 13 and Yaz’s interactions on the train, the Doctor basically convincing Yaz to not call it in, and of course it doesn’t take much. Could be showing that Yaz is already intrigued by the Doctor this early into knowing her or it could be showing how Yaz is young/naïve bc she’s letting this random train woman take control, basically showing the Doctor companion power imbalance, Yaz is obviously out of her depth with this.
I love Ryan’s vibe. Sometimes he’s quiet, sometimes he’s moody, he’s low-key kinda funny. I’m a big fan. The moments are small but they work for me.
Tumblr media
The back and forth between Graham and Ryan in this ep is so good. I think the scene where Graham mentions Ryan blaming his dyspraxia for starting the invasion is maybe a bit much? But idk, Ryan has been making comments for like half the ep at this point, and probably for the last three years, so maybe Graham is allowed to say something twatty back every once in a while.
The scene where they find the dead body is a bit odd because we don’t see anything, we just get them taking turns describing what they see. I get why, they’re obviously not gonna show the stuff they’re describing in a family show, but I wish they’d showed us something.
Tumblr media
Thirteen is true chef’s kiss when it comes to confrontations. I love how she says ‘Get behind me now’ and I love that it’s a theme that runs through the era. It’s giving not wanting Bill 2.0 to happen because she wasn’t in the way to stop it.
Love that while Thirteen clearly wants to keep the fam safe and seems to like them, she isn’t massively attached to them. There are multiple times where she basically tells them to shut up because there’s important shit she needs to get on with.
Tumblr media
I find it very interesting, and depressing, that Grace is the only one in the episode to explicitly say that she loves what’s happening and then she is the one who dies.
It isn’t my fave thing in the world that the way Tim Shaw was defeated was because 13 did a bunch of things offscreen that we didn’t see and that weren’t mentioned at all prior to that point. They show the red thing that helps Tim get home during the sonic making scene but that’s it from what I noticed. It's not a big deal for me because I think the main thing about this ep is that we get to know all these new ppl and not that the resolution to the plot is 10/10 but it is something I noticed.
I love the start of this ep with Ryan’s video and how we think he’s talking about the Doctor but it ends up being about Grace but tbh Ryan doesn’t give me a YouTuber vibe. It feels like they did it in this ep bc it was cool and they didn’t think about it much outside of that
I would really like more concrete information on what happened between Grace's death and her funeral tbh. I find the fact the Doctor stayed, especially this Doctor who goes on to be known to not want to let people get too close, very interesting. In my mind she spent the time before the funeral living at that place where she made the thing to get her to the TaRDIS, maybe with the fam dipping in to see her, bc imo that would explain the fact she still hadn't got changed, and then she decided to stay for the funeral and leave as soon as it was over
I love Ryan and the Doctor's chat at the funeral about Ryan's dad. She is literally his surrogate dad I stg
Graham's funeral speech is so Thasmin coded it's disgusting. Only having a short amount of time with her, she showed him a better way to live?? Also this shot while Graham is saying that? Earlier Yaz was complaining she wanted more and now she is about to get more !!
Tumblr media
I think the fam are well fleshed out in this ep? Especially Ryan and Graham. Idk I’m not that good at like, analysing shit but just from this one ep I feel like we know them decently.
Graham - Wants a relationship with Ryan, had cancer, was a bus driver, loves making one liners
Yaz - Wants more from her job, can be authoritative
Ryan - has dyspraxia, isn’t a fan of Graham, bad relationship with dad, works in a warehouse, doing his NVQ, YouTube
Yaz is defo the one we have the least concrete info about at this point but even then I think the main thing we do know about her, the fact she wants more from her job, is kinda an important thing so meh

Hello, Ranboo Tag! Ive come to share my words after being unessacarily passive aggressively bashed on Tiktok.
See, it started with a tiktok saying that genloss doesnt seem that scary after ep1. The opinion matched with mine after watching the first ep, so I wrote the comments something like "yeah, i thought I'd be scarier"
Some people tried to change my opinion by genuinely explaining how the next episodes are supposed to have more "horror", yknow? Other people just went straight to passive aggressively bashing me, with stuff like "what about Ranboo screaming let me die, huh? 🙄", Overall everything in the spirit off:
"what about *insert thing from ep 2 or 3*, idiot? Should've been more patient"
With a lot of aggression or ways to make you feel stupid. Here's the thing, I find it funny yet sad.
Oh noo, I had my own opinion that othwr ppl shared so i agreed!!!! Where are the people's minds at.
I was a bit dissapointed by it, because when i think back to 2021 and Ranboo announcing him working on genloss (yknow, 2020 - 2021 the era where everything was still fun) he said he was inspired by The Walten Files among other things. So thats what i expected: a vhs style analog horror. That wasnt what I got, so it threw me off a little bit, but I nontheless gave the first ep a try. I didnt like it that much, not because of it not being what its supposed to be, it just didnt appeal to me. Which, and idk if those kinda fans knew that, is completely fine!
You are not obliged to watch everything the cc pushes out and to like everything they do or say or release.
I have the attention span of a fetus, I would never be able to sit through ep 2 and 3. And i generally didn't feel like it, bc yknow, I didnt like it. So why would I.
And generally it all boils down to me thinking, wow. 2021 to early 2022 really was better.
Ive been in this fandom since November 2020. Ive been there for almost everything, excitedly watching it all and having fun! I never missed Ranboos or Tubbos stream, bc I was a huge beeduo fan. I made fanart and their videos helped me fall asleep.
And then everything started to dull at around May 2022. The vibe changed and me and probably many others, as I have heard others say the same, started to feel like this isnt enjoyable anymore. Call me and those people hung up on the past, but yknow, sometimes people loose interest, get more casual about things and idk, act like a responsible person distancing themselves from this thick responsibility of "like everything and watch every stream" when everything had dulled down and you dont feel the same you felt back then.
I was only in the fandom with one foot anyway. Occasionally watching Tommy, James Marriot and recently gaining a bit more interest on the QSMP. If i speak on my feelings and thoughts on the dsmp fandom changing, I'm sure even more people would bash me, even though its a genuine opinion and not whatever delusional hatecrime some ppl may think.
I genuinely hope that Generation Loss goes great for Ranboo and that he has fun doing it. And that the people who like it can enjoy and have fun.
But Im not obliged to and I dont wanna hear the bashing. If i read it, i laughing, just to be clear. But i think i got my point across.
If youve read this far, thank you for your patience, have a lovely day.
