I need more people to understand the gravity of this.
⚠️Content warning: mentions of Nazism and the Holocaust⚠️
Zionism and Fascism -sometimes the lines blur.
We have yet another haunting display of (neo)Nazis marching out in the open -something we have seen an increase of across the globe (but especially in Western and European countries) over the past decade, and has especially heightened during the pandemic with recruitment being done online very quickly, alarmingly so [The Southern Poverty Law Center is a great resource to continue your research on this as well].
We have seen an increase in young white men being radicalized and joining (neo)Nazi groups and many extremist white supremacist affiliations because they see everyone who does not look like them as a threat, and they have been historically and are currently violent and murderous.
For those of you who still think Israel is in the right, despite being an occupational force breaking COUNTLESS international laws and has been ethnically cleansing Palestinian people for decades and has been mass accelerating a genocide against Palestinian people since October 7th of this year... please take a look at these (neo)Nazis, -with whom operate under the belief that they are a superior race, and invoke ultranationalism, racism, and xenophobia to normalize their dangerous and oppressive rhetoric -and with whom vilify, threaten, and perhaps actually harm ANYONE who tells their their ideologies are violent and depraved... think about these parallels to the 'goals' of Zionism, please.
You have Nazis out at the same time as Zionists are... each, respectively so, filled with genocidal apologists... it's terrifying.
To the Israeli Jewish people who support Israel; to those who see Palestinian people as a direct threat to their safety and security -I'd check your own neighborhoods first. Because THIS is what anti-Zionist Israeli Jewish people and pro-Palestinian liberation Jewish people and activists all around the world have been saying all along -and so many of you are still SO ignorant to the real dangers -real Nazis and white supremacist terrorist groups that do active harm... and it's just so disturbing.
I was also going to post this earlier today (I wrote this the other day then THIS happened):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Auschwitz Memorial... just supported the genocide of millions of Palestinian people. They regurgitated Israeli propaganda and lies, called Israel the sole and perpetual victims despite being a violent settler colonial force, with whom has used weapons of mass destruction against defenseless civilians. Israel has committed and is committing war crimes, and is NOT self-defending -they are executing a Zionist plan which involves ethnically cleansing Palestinian people... and the audacity to say Hamas is exploiting the 'people of Gaza,' when Israel uses Hamas as an excuse to BOMB the hell out of everything in sight, and kill over 12,000 Palestinian people... it's just... how out of touch of reality are these privileged and bigoted people?
In the span of a few days, seeing Nazis take to the streets, and the Auschwitz Memorial is more preoccupied with this... I'm baffled.
End the occupation, ceasefire now, and free Palestine!

ah, can't find the original post to respond to it, and tumblr was refusing to let me actually post with the usual bullshit of "sorry there was an error processing your post" . anyways.
If you see a post going around about Jewish restaurants being targeted for harassment by pro-palestine protestors "solely for being Jewish", stop what you are doing and actually look up the incident in question, because that is not what happened at Goldie's restaurant!
Full article below for accessiblity, and because we all know Tumblr only looks at headlines and doesn't click links to news articles.
Long post!
Bolding is my own for emphasis.
A protest against a top Israel-born chef was called antisemitic. Staff tell a different story
Wilfred ChanFri 8 Dec 2023 16.55 GMTFirst published on Fri 8 Dec 2023 12.00 GMT
The 21-second clip went viral almost as soon as it was posted early on Sunday evening. It showed hundreds of protesters, some with Palestinian flags, united in a rhyming chant: “Goldie, Goldie, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide!”
They were protesting outside Goldie, a vegan falafel restaurant owned by Michael Solomonov, the Israel-born celebrity chef best known for Zahav, an Israeli-themed restaurant widely considered one of the United States’ finest eateries. It was one brief stop along a march traversing Philadelphia that lasted about three hours.
Many of the protesters hadn’t even returned home from the march when the condemnations began to pour in. The Pennsylvania governor, Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, posted on X: “Tonight in Philly, we saw a blatant act of antisemitism – not a peaceful protest. A restaurant was targeted and mobbed because its owner is Jewish and Israeli. This hate and bigotry is reminiscent of a dark time in history.”
Even the White House piled on: it was “antisemitic and completely unjustifiable to target restaurants that serve Israeli food over disagreements with Israeli policy”, said the deputy press secretary, Andrew Bates. Douglas Emhoff, husband of Vice-President Kamala Harris, wrote on X that he had spoken with Solomonov and “told him @POTUS, @VP, and the entire Biden-Harris Administration will continue to have his back”.
It was the apex of a saga that has resulted in at least three workers fired from Solomonov’s restaurants over, as they see it, their pro-Palestine activism coming into conflict with their bosses’ views and policies, and at least one other worker who has resigned in protest – thrusting the renowned Israeli eateries into the thick of bitter US disagreements over the Israel-Hamas war.
The street protest against Goldie has sparked heated debate. As the war on Gaza rages on, with over 17,000 people killed in Gaza since 7 October – 70% of them women and children, according to Gaza’s health ministry – are Israel-linked businesses in the US implicated? Was Solomonov, a chef who has credited Palestinian influences in his cooking, an appropriate target?
Interviews with protesters and current and former employees at Solomonov’s restaurants paint a more complex version of events than what the video clip may have suggested. They reject the notion that Goldie was singled out because of the owners’ ethnicity, arguing that their objections stem from management using the restaurants to fundraise for Israel after 7 October in spite of worker concerns. Activists also say their protest shines a necessary spotlight on the political commitments of one of the highest-profile restaurateurs in the United States.
Tensions at work
There were political tensions simmering at Solomonov’s restaurants before Sunday’s march. The Guardian spoke to three Goldie workers who say they were fired due to their pro-Palestine advocacy: two who wore Palestinian flag pins in violation of a newly announced dress code that forbade non-Goldie branded adornments, and another who tweeted in support of Sunday’s street protest.
Their discomfort at work began following a fundraiser in October, during which Solomonov and his business partner Steve Cook announced they would donate all of the restaurant group’s profits from one day, over $100,000, to United Hatzalah, an Israeli medical non-profit that has supplied the Israel Defense Forces with protective and medical gear during the current war against Hamas.
And in early November, Solomonov’s Zahav hosted a private fundraiser by a prominent political action committee dedicated to supporting political candidates “who reflect Jewish values”. Attendees at the event, which has not been previously reported, included the Michigan governor, Gretchen Whitmer; and dozens of other pro-Israel officials and lobbyists, according to a current Zahav employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The employee said that in recent weeks, Solomonov had also booked and paid for multiple, lavish private dinners at Zahav for IDF members preparing to deploy to fight for Israel.
“The amount of material support that we’ve lended to pro-Israel causes and Israeli military personnel has been really discomforting,” the Zahav worker told the Guardian.
In an email to workers on Wednesday, Solomonov and Cook apologized for not communicating about their political stances with staff more directly. The pair had sought to “avoid discussing politics at work … to make everyone as comfortable as possible in the restaurant,” the owners wrote. “But perhaps we created a void that had the opposite effect. For that, we are sorry.”
The fraught politics of food
The protest and its fallout have produced the biggest controversy ever faced by Solomonov, one of America’s most prominent Israeli cultural figures and someone who for years has cast himself as a culinary bridge between Israel, Palestine, and the United States.
Solomonov’s brother, a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, was killed in 2003 by Hezbollah snipers; Solomonov wrote in his first cookbook, Zahav, that the tragedy made him briefly consider joining Israel’s army. Instead, he decided to channel his emotion into food, something he found allowed him to “expose people to a side of Israel that had nothing to do with politics”. That led him and Cook, an investment banker-turned-restaurateur, to found Zahav in 2008, followed by other prominent Israeli-themed eateries: Dizengoff, Goldie, K’Far, and Laser Wolf, under a restaurant group called CookNSolo. In 2017, Israel’s ministry of tourism named him a culinary ambassador.
The restaurants have never been completely free from controversy. Debates over the origins and ownership of Middle Eastern food have raged for years; many culinary experts have argued that Palestinian contributions to Mediterranean cuisine have been used by Israeli chefs without sufficient respect or acknowledgement. Yet while Solomonov and Cook have always branded their food as Israeli, their menus and cookbooks cite Palestinian influences on many dishes. For years, Solomonov also spoke of his friendship with the Palestinian writer and cookbook author Reem Kassis – though the two are no longer speaking, according to the New York Times.
But the conflicts aren’t just over cultural appropriation. They’re about “the way Israel as a state has weaponized food against the Palestinian people”, says the Palestinian American chef Reem Assil, who owns Reem’s, a Arab street food joint in San Francisco. “Even before these last 60 days, Israel has restricted what Gazans can access in terms of food and water. They target bakeries, they target farms, they target markets. They uproot our olive trees, they make it illegal for us to forge our own ingredients, like za’atar.” The UN warned last month that Israel’s military operations in Gaza had put residents there at “immediate” risk of starvation.
A controversial fundraiser
Since the 7 October attacks, Solomonov has publicly sought to caveat his support for Israel. “I personally believe in the right of Palestinians to have their own state, and the right for self-determination, and I don’t deny those things,” he said at an event last month in New Jersey, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “And I believe the Israeli government oftentimes does things that I would not do at all … and it can be quite damaging.”
But internally, Solomonov and Cook were using their restaurants to steer resources toward Israel.
On 10 October, Solomonov and Cook announced a fundraiser that would donate all the profits across CookNSolo restaurants on 12 October to United Hatzalah. “It is not associated with any military,” the restaurant group assured staff in a Slack message – something that simply wasn’t true, workers soon realized with alarm.
Goldie staff were caught off guard because they considered the restaurant a politically progressive institution. The vegan falafel restaurant proudly displayed an LGBTQ flag and Black Lives Matter flag on its wall. Many of the workers were young and identified as queer. There was a casual dress code: Noah Wood, a 25-year-old who uses they/them pronouns, said they did shifts at Goldie while wearing hats with slogans supporting indigenous rights.
The night before CookNSolo’s fundraiser, Goldie’s store manager at the time, 24-year-old Sophie Hamilton, says she discovered public videos by United Hatzalah about how the non-profit supplied protective gear to IDF soldiers. She rushed off an email to Goldie’s general manager, Emma Richards, saying she felt “deeply betrayed and misled”. “I feel like I’ve been left with no choice but to refuse to come to work tomorrow unless [CookNSolo] commits to also raising donations for a Palestinian humanitarian organization, of course with no connection to any military.”
But Hamilton’s suggestion was ignored, and Richards simply told her someone would cover her shift the next day.
When Hamilton returned to work, she decided to keep working but while wearing a small Palestinian flag pin. “There’s just a point where you can’t leave your humanity at the door,” she said. No customers complained, but two weeks later, management announced a new rule: staff were not to wear stickers, pins, or patches that were not Goldie-branded.
Wood, the other server, started wearing a Palestinian flag pin in open defiance of the new rule. Another worker, June, 24, wore a green shirt, black pants, and a red bandana – a reference to the colors of Palestinian flag.
On 15 November, the restaurant asked Hamilton to send Wood home for violating the dress code. Hamilton refused, and the next day they were both fired, Hamilton for “poor performance for failing to enforce the uniform policy”. Wood was not given any official reason, they say.
In the Wednesday email to staff, the owners wrote: “We recognize that people have different views on the war between Israel and Hamas, and we respect your rights to your own views. Many of our guests have passionate feelings about the current conflict and, knowing that not all of you feel the same way, our approach is to simply avoid discussing politics at work.”
They did not provide details on the firings beyond writing: “It is also important for you to hear directly from us that we have never terminated employees based on their support for Palestine.”
The owners added: “We think it’s important to say that our support of Israel is not unqualified. We have plenty of criticisms, particularly in the way that the government has stymied the prospects for Palestinian statehood in recent years.”
In a statement shared with the Guardian, United Hatzalah’s senior vice-president for international operations, Michael Brown, said that the nonprofit and the IDF “often train together, especially when conducting mass casualty training drills, or search and rescue training drills in order to hone our skills and help the IDF sharpen theirs, as well as to allow for an easier flow of collaborative life saving efforts should the need ever arise in the field, similar to what happened during October 7th.”
The restaurant group declined to respond to a detailed list of questions by the Guardian about the fired workers, but a spokeswoman said in a statement: “CookNSolo exists to create community through food. We are committed to fostering an open, safe, and supportive workplace for all of our employees who have varying backgrounds and political views. Like many hospitality companies, we have standard policies for our employees, which we consistently enforce.” Solomonov declined, through a representative, a direct request for an interview.
Justin Sadowsky, an attorney at the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights non-profit, says the firings of Goldie workers are the first time he’s heard of restaurant workers allegedly fired for supporting Palestine since 7 October. “We’ve seen it in hospitals, we’ve seen it at large corporations, we’ve seen it in law firms, but it’s sort of spilling into everywhere,” he said. The organization says it’s received a “staggering” 2,171 requests for help and reports of bias in the 57 days since the Israel-Hamas war began, equalling nearly half of the total complaints it handled in all of 2022.
Call for a boycott
Meanwhile, CookNSolo’s fundraiser for United Hatzalah had caught the attention of local activists in a group called the Philadelphia Free Palestine Coalition. The activists weren’t in touch with the restaurant workers, but drew the same conclusion: by funneling restaurant proceeds toward a group associated with the IDF, CookNSolo was complicit in Israel’s war crimes.
In mid-October, the activists called for a boycott. Natalie Abulhawa, a Palestinian American organizer at the Free Palestine Coalition, helped write an Instagram post for the boycott that named three of Solomonov’s restaurants – Goldie, Zahav, and Laser Wolf – as well as a number of other Middle Eastern restaurants in the city. “Restaurants and businesses claiming to sell ‘Israeli’ food, fruits, vegetables, and products are part of an ongoing colonial campaign of stealing, appropriating, and profiting off of Palestinian food and culture as a means of erasing Palestinian existence,” the call read.
The boycott made waves in the food world, and Solomonov addressed it at a closed-door event in November at a New Jersey Jewish Community Center. Speaking to the crowd of several hundred, he called the boycott misguided, adding that it wasn’t affecting his sales, according to the Inquirer. While acknowledging that “part of Israeli food is Palestinian influenced”, he argued that any suggestion that Israeli food was stolen from Palestinians was akin to saying Israelis “don’t have a right to be there”. Solomonov added that his restaurants credited Palestinian influences on their menus and claimed Zahav imported more Palestinian wines than any other Philadelphia eatery.
But privately, Solomonov and Cook were using their restaurants to platform Israel’s war effort. On 1 November, Zahav hosted a fundraiser by a major political action committee called Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania, whose guests included Whitmer and as many as 80 other pro-Israel officials and lobbyists, according to the unnamed Zahav employee. “It was an explicitly pro-Israel reception and speeches made were about that support,” the employee said.
The employee said that Whitmer, who delivered a keynote, opened with the Jewish expression of solidarity “Am Yisrael Chai”, or “the people of Israel live”, and called for providing material support to Israel, and that Solomonov, who was in the audience, was afterward “emphatically talking and thanking all of the attendees”.
In the following weeks, the employee became even more disturbed as Solomonov hosted and paid for at least two private dinners at Zahav for small groups of Israelis, including soldiers who were preparing to fly home to fight the Gaza war. Solomonov explained with “a level of reverence” that the restaurant would cover the bill because of the diners’ roles in the Israeli military, the employee says.
These events, in addition to the firings of Goldie staff, have made many of Zahav’s staff deeply uncomfortable. “Most of the employees here are not particularly interested in the support of Israel,” the employee said, but the workers fear retaliation if they speak out. CookNSolo declined to comment on the events at Zahav.
A clip goes viral
Pennsylvania’s Jewish and Muslim communities have been on edge since the Israel-Hamas war began. On Monday, a Jewish daycare in Philadelphia reported that vandals had spray-painted “Free Palestine” and other graffiti on its windows. On Tuesday, a pair of students sued the University of Pennsylvania, claiming it had become an “incubation lab for virulent anti-Jewish hatred”. Last week, a South Philadelphia mosque reported that it had been vandalized by anti-Muslim graffiti. And last month, a man was arrested for pointing a gun and yelling racial slurs against a group of pro-Palestine demonstrators at the state’s capitol.
The Goldie protest also followed a growing number of incidents that have entangled Middle Eastern food businesses. Palestinian restaurants such as New York City’s Ayat have reported being flooded with negative reviews since the war began; last month, an ex-Obama aide was charged with a hate crime for harassing a halal food street vendor.
But Goldie’s attempts to head off pro-Palestinian activism were futile.
On 3 December, the Free Palestine Coalition led hundreds of protesters in an evening of marches around Philadelphia to renew calls for a ceasefire. Starting from Rittenhouse Square in Philly’s Center City neighborhood, the march took a wrong turn, which brought it past Goldie, says Abulhawa. The encounter with the falafel restaurant wasn’t planned, she says, “but we ran with it”.
June, who is Jewish, was one of the employees working inside Goldie that night, and said the protest – which lasted just a few minutes – was completely peaceful: “There was nothing violent, no hint of antisemitism.” The store was devoid of guests when the marchers arrived, though one customer came in partway through to pickup an online order and displayed no reaction. June even thought about going outside to join the protest, but thought better of it and instead quietly chanted along to the slogans from inside the store.
Someone placed two small stickers on Goldie’s door and window. One read, “Free Palestine,” and another contained a statistic about the number of children Israel had killed in Gaza (Abulhawa says that whoever placed the stickers were not asked to do so by protest organizers). One protester briefly posed in front of the door with a Palestine flag. Then the protest shuffled on.
A few minutes later, a user named Jordan Van Glish posted a 21-second clip of the protest to X, where it quickly went viral. Comments flooded in: “Once again proving that this is about hating Jews,” one user wrote. Stop Antisemitism, a prominent pro-Israel group, posted that it was a “failure” that no anti-riot police were dispatched and no protesters were arrested.
But Philadelphia’s police force told the Guardian that officers observing the march “did not see, hear, or record any threats to persons inside or outside Goldie”, and the department received “no 911 calls or complaints” during the event.
Some marchers have acknowledged how the clip, taken out of context, could have been misinterpreted. “I’d say in hindsight, maybe [the organizers] should have spent another minute explaining why we were stopping there,” says Joe Piette, a photographer who joined the protest. “It would have been better to explain some of the details of the owner of that restaurant. Our mistake was not explaining it on the spot.”
June felt that frustration when they got home that night and saw the clip gaining traction. “So I felt like I should give the context that was missing from that tweet,” they said. June published a post explaining that the restaurant group had raised money for Israel-linked causes and punished pro-Palestine employees. “If you don’t want to be directly funding genocide, you should probably stay away from Goldie” and other CookNSolo restaurants, they wrote.
On Monday, June got a phone call while on the bus to work: they were fired as well. The manager gave no explanation, but June didn’t need to ask why. “Honestly, I didn’t really feel that bad or surprised,” they said. “I had no pride in this job.”
High-profile officials have continued to argue that the protesters were motivated by antisemitism. Governor Shapiro doubled down on his tweet after visiting Goldie and meeting with Solomonov on Wednesday. “A mob protested a restaurant simply because it’s owned by a Jewish person,” the governor claimed. “That is the kind of antisemitic tropes that we saw in 1930s Germany, and it’s the kind of thing we should not tolerate.” In a statement to the Guardian, his office reiterated: “This was not a peaceful protest”.
Two days after the march, Tess Rauscher, a 25-year-old barista at the CookNSolo-owned Israeli cafe K’Far, resigned, citing the company’s fundraiser and firing of Goldie workers, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It was these actions, not the identity of the owner, that changed the nature of my job,” she said.
This article was amended on 8 December 2023 to delete an incorrect reference to a manager taking down an LGBTQ+ flag. Also references to Governor Josh Shapiro attending an event at Zahav on 1 November were deleted. Governor Shapiro’s office have said he was not at the event.
[end article]
TL;DR:
Goldie's restaurant and 2 other restaurants owned by the same famous Israeli chef were part of a general boycott starting in October.
The famous israeli chef, Michael Solomonov, has been directly funding the Israeli military with fundraisers at his various owned resteraunts (including donating over $100,000 in a single day)
Michael Solomonov has also hosted multiple, lavish "going away parties" free of charge for people deploying to go fight in Gaza (you know, just, going on over to help commit genocide!)
Multiple staff were fired for being pro-palestine, including for wearing pins with the Palestinian flag, or wearing the colors of the palestinian flag to work.
June, A jewish staff member who was working when the protestors arrived outside the restaurant, did not feel threatened in any way, affirmed it was a completely peaceful protest, and actually considered stopping their work to go out and join the march, but ultimately decided to stay for the rest of their shift and quietly chant along with the protestors. They were fired a few days later, and not given any explanation.

"We have good reason to worry about this: As Israelis count their dead, politicians in Israel and the US call for Palestinian blood in direct, genocidal language. “We are fighting human animals and we will act accordingly,” said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant yesterday. “Finish them, Netanyahu,” said former Ambassador to the United Nations and Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley. “Neutraliz[e] the terrorists,” said Democratic senator John Fetterman. Jews share memes about the highest number of Jewish casualties since the Holocaust, not bothering to ask who, right now, is being ethnically cleansed, or how many massacres of this size Gaza has seen in the last dozen years. This language deploys the bombs that fall on Gazans from the sky, leveling whole neighborhoods, wiping out families without warning, huddled in their homes because they have nowhere to flee. “There are body parts scattered everywhere. There are still people missing,” one man north of Gaza City told CNN. “We’re still looking for our brothers, our children. It’s like we’re stuck living in a nightmare.”
We will likely soon see this genocidal impulse spread, as the Israeli government hands out automatic weapons to West Bank settlers, many of whom were already armed eliminationists. In this way, Jewish grief is routed back into the violence of a merciless system of Palestinian subjugation that reigns from the river to the sea. It is mobilized by US politicians who support Benjamin Netanyahu and his extremist government, which has intensified Palestinian death and displacement and disappeared any hope of a diplomatic solution. It is marshaled to drum up support for sending weapons to Israel, even as we know that, as Haggai Mattar wrote in +972 Magazine, “there is no military solution to Israel’s problem with Gaza, nor to the resistance that naturally emerges as a response to violent apartheid.”
(...)
On October 7th, my own feelings fluctuated wildly. My first feeling was fear. To listen closely to the genocidal language of this Israeli government over the past year has been to live in terror of the day they would find the excuse to pursue it. Writing in n+1, Jewish Currents contributing editor David Klion recounts the words of a campus activist in the wake of 9/11: “They’re already dead,” he’d said on the day Bush declared war on Iraqis, their fates sealed. I felt these words in my body, sobbing loudly in front of the screen. There were also bursts, very early on, of awe. I watched the image of the bulldozer destroying the Gaza fence again and again and cried tears of hope. I watched Palestinian teenagers seemingly out joyriding in a place half a mile away that they’d never been; a Gazan blogger suddenly reporting from Israel. But these images were quickly joined by others—the image of a woman’s body, mostly naked and bent unnaturally in the back of a truck; rooms full of families lying in piles, the walls spattered in blood. I wanted desperately to keep these images separate—to hold close the liberatory metaphor and banish the violent reality. By the time I began to accept that these were pictures of the same event, I was distraught, and contending with a rising alienation from those who did not seem to share my grief, especially as the scope of the massacre came into view.
(...)
Part of what has made the experience of this event feel so different from the status quo—and so different to Palestinians and Jews—comes from the fact that Palestinians were undeniably the actors, for once, not the acted upon. The protagonists of the story. I consider it an enormous failure of our movements that we have not been able to build a vehicle for that kind of reversal in any other way thus far. Our Jewish movements for Palestine were not powerful enough to stop other Jews from gunning down Palestinians in peaceful marches at the Gazan border fence, or to keep Palestinians from being fired, harassed, and sued for speaking the truth about their experience or—God forbid—advocating the nonviolent tactic of boycott.
And now, we do not have a shared struggle able to credibly respond to these massacres of Israelis and Palestinians. With all of the work that many Jews and Palestinians have done to reach toward each other over the years, I believe at heart it is this failure that is now driving us apart. There is no formidable political formation that I know of that can hold the political subjectivity of both Jews and Palestinians in this moment without simply attempting to assimilate one into the other. No place where Jews and Palestinians who agree on the basics of Palestinian liberation—right of return, equality, and reparations—are poised to turn the synthesis of these two subjectivities into a coherent strategy.
(...)
One of the most terrible things about this event is the sense of its inevitability. The violence of apartheid and colonialism begets more violence. Many people have struggled with the straightjacket of this inevitability, straining to articulate that its recognition does not mean its embrace. I am reminding myself that it was from Palestinians, many of them writing and speaking in these pages, that I learned to think of Palestine as a site of possibility—a place where the very idea of the nation-state, which has so harmed both peoples, could be remade or destroyed entirely."

David Stewart, 1st Duke of Rothesay and heir to the throne of Scotland died on March 26th 1402.
In all the long history of the Stewart dynasty there are many tragic figures such as Mary, Queen of Scots and King Charles I, but surely there can be no more hapless and lamentable bearer of the name than the first prince to ever carry the title of the Duke of Rothesay.
David Stewart was the heir to the throne of Scotland at the end of the 14th century until he lost his claim to kingship, and his life, at the behest of his own uncle. His death occurred in the strangest of circumstances in this week of 1402.
t was a time of great jostling for power within the Stewart clan and their fellow Scottish aristocrats. David was born on or around October 24th, 1378, as the son of John, Earl of Carrick, the heir to the Scottish throne, and his wife Countess Anabella nee Drummond. On becoming King he took the name Robert as John and it’s association with the Balliol's’ was considered unlucky, the third to use the name.
Robert III had been kicked by a horse two years before his coronation and as well as physical injury he suffered from melancholia, or depression as we know it.
His younger brother, confusingly also called Robert, was the Earl of Fife who had assumed the Lieutenancy and taken control of the governance of Scotland in the early part of Robert III’s reign.
Both Fife and 19-year-old David Stewart were created Dukes, the first in Scotland, in 1398 after David was knighted at the Great Tournament of Edinburgh arranged by his mother. Fife became Duke of Albany and David became Duke of Rothesay, the title which has passed down to the heirs to the Scottish throne – Prince Charles is the current holder.
Albany’s grip on power had seemed secure at first but as her husband’s health deteriorated, Queen Anabella began to take more control, and she also pushed the cause of her son David as the heir, arranging for him to become the Lieutenant in 1399. The problem was David’s personality – he was a self-indulgent wild child, who grew increasingly debauched as his teens wore on.
He was also arrogant to a fault, and despite being engaged and probably married to Elizabeth Dunbar, daughter of the Earl of March, he decided for dynastic reasons to marry Mary Douglas, daughter of the hugely powerful 3rd earl of Douglas, known as Archibald the Grim.
The Earl of March was furious and switched allegiance to King Henry IV of England who promptly invaded Scotland but had to go home when Edinburgh Castle thwarted his siege. Poor David got the blame for the invasion and his already sagging popularity hit a new low.
When both Archibald the Grim and his mother died in 1401, the Duke of Rothesay was in a very vulnerable position as his uncle Albany moved to complete his control of the kingdom. Albany was assisted in this by Archibald, 4th Earl of Douglas who greatly disliked Rothesay.
Early in 1402, Albany moved to consolidate his power by conspiring with Archibald Douglas to have his nephew David arrested and imprisoned in Albany’s Falkland Palace in Fife on trumped up charges.
It was there that David died on March 26, 1402, most probably from starvation. Whether he was murdered or not is unknown. The official verdict was that Rothesay died of natural causes but the circumstances said otherwise.
His father, the virtually insane King Robert III, presided over a council of enquiry and had to put his name to a document which exonerated Albany and Douglas.
The King wrote: “We consider as excused the aforementioned Robert and Archibald, and anyone who took part in this affair with them, that is any who arrested, detained, guarded, gave them advice, and all others who gave them counsel, help or support, or executed their order or command in any way whatsoever, and in our said council we openly and publicly declared, pronounced and determined definitively and by the tenor of this our present document declare, pronounce, and by this definitive sentence judge them and each of them to be innocent, harmless, blameless, quit, free and immune completely in all respects.”
Robert even ordered the end to malignant rumours: “Wherefore we strictly order and command all and singular our subjects, of whatever standing or condition they be, that they do not slander the said Robert and Archibald and their participants, accomplices or adherents in this deed, as aforesaid, by word or action, nor murmur against them in any way whereby their good reputation is hurt or any prejudice is generated, under all penalty which may be applicable hereafter in any way by law.”
The opposition silenced, Albany was in complete control and remained so even after Robert III died in 1406, when David Stewart’s younger brother James became King. But having fled from the marauding Douglases, young James was at that time in the custody of the English court and would remain an exile for 18 years.
How much pressure was put on the King at this time is not known, however as insane as he was, he decided to send his other son, Prince James, aged only about 1, to France for safety. As you know from last Tuesday’s post, his ship was boarded by pirates and he ended up as a “guest” of the English, for the best part of 20 years.
When Robert III heard of his son's capture, he became even more depressed. He refused any food and died within a few days on April 4th, 1406.
Robert asked to be buried under a dunghill with the epitaph: Here lies the worst of Kings and the most miserable of men as he did not consider himself worthy of the honour. He ended up being buried in Paisley Abbey.
David Duke of Rothesay is said to have been buried at Lindores a Tironensian abbey on the outskirts of Newburgh in Fife, which never survived the vandalism of the Scottish Reformation.
Pics are Falkland Palace, then and now, and Lindores Abbey ruins.

man of the month part 2: january
Series Masterlist See my full list of works here!
Summary: You, Sam, and Tony plan who's assigned to which month; Tony has a talk with the models about you; during Tony's shoot he gives you a heads up on what's in store for you with some of the models
Pairing: Loki x Reader (eventually)
Word Count: 2.1k
Warnings: a handful of cuss words; otherwise, none [let me know if i missed anything!]
Things to be aware of: idiots in love; mutual pining; brief mentions of being half-naked
Tumblr media
"We should decide who goes where," Stark said as he wrote down "January" next to his name and "July" next to Rogers'. "Everyone in favor of Barton going on February? Because you know, Cupid, arrows, all that?"
"I love it," you spoke up, sitting back down on your seat, showing the slightest signs of tiredness but still visibly undeterred. "How about Wilson in August? Right after Cap?"
"Eyy let's go!" Wilson singsonged. "I like the way you think, Tweety. Now Thunder here looks like a summer month, so let's go with June. And Ten Rings over here looks a bit like Spring to me, so I'm going April."
"Can I have May, please?" Lang spoke up.
"Of course you can, Scott. Since you asked so nicely," you answered him with a sweet smile. "Hey Rhodey, you feel like taking March?"
"Whichever gets my shoot done as soon as possible," he droned, evidently quite disinterested in this entire affair.
"Sweet. Ooh, we could put Loki in December," you said with a small wave of your hand Stark's way.
"Ah, because of Rudolph. Reindeer Games. I love the way your brain works, Tweety," Stark said as he put "December" next to the god's name.
You barely reacted to the quip as you visibly pondered over the remaining names and months, simply responding, "No it's because his birthday's in December." Your words made Stark and Wilson turn their gazes towards you, and caused Loki's heart to skip a good few beats. Very few people knew when his day was, despite Thor's insistence over the last few years to celebrate it.
And yet here you were declaring it as if you viewed it as common knowledge.
When several moments passed with no one saying a word, you looked around, quite visibly confused as you realized that there were currently several sets of eyes on you. "What?"
"Nothing, Tweety. Nothing at all," Stark answered you with a smirk. "All we have now are September to November. Strange, Banner, Barnes. You wanna talk among yourselves who gets what or you want Y/N to decide for you?"
"I'll take September, if it's okay with you all," Banner offered. The three of you nodded and "September" was placed next to Banner's name.
"Should we coin toss on Stephen and Bucky?" Something about how the metal-armed soldier smiled when you said his name made Loki's blood boil. He knew that the super soldier, both super soldiers actually, harbored feelings towards you, and something he quite envied about Barnes was that he was unashamedly outspoken about it.
"Fine with me, doll," Barnes answered you. He took a coin and tossed it in the air. "Heads I get October, tails it's Strange's." He caught the coin before it landed with a sharp sound on the table, and looked at the results in his palm. "Heads. Shall we do a Halloween shoot, Scopes?"
"Nah. Too cheesy. We'll have some stuff set up by the time the shoots start, so we could figure it out then, okay?" You gave him a smile as you ended your response to him, causing a dull ache to start in the god's heart once again. How he wished you could be that casual with him. Yearned for it, even.
"Okay so that's everyone planned out for their page on the calendar. Tweety, you're good for the day. Go back to sleep, you can start planning later. Models, stay, I have something to discuss with you all before I dismiss you, too." You promptly stood up, gathered your things in your arms and walked towards the door. Loki pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against and moved quickly to open the door for you.
"Thanks, Mischief," you said softly as you looked up at him for the briefest moment before once again fixing your gaze upon the ground and scurrying out of the room. You're welcome, darling, he thought to himself as he let go of the handle.
Once only the twelve men who would be modeling for this date keeper remained, Stark spoke up. "I'll make this quick. I know that Tweety has the hots for one of you, I just don't know which one. All I know is that she started having that glazed over look in her eyes once we had all the names written down before we called you all in. I'm telling you this because I know that some of you have a boner for her." He glared at the super soldiers specifically after this line.
"Hold on, Stark, so you're saying that she reciprocates the feelings of…someone in this room?" Rogers inquired, making a roundabout motion with this hand.
"That's what I'm saying, Capsicle. Unless of course she has feelings for someone in this room that isn't interested in her. Now that'd be a damn shame. Anyway, all this to say I'm going to be a complete devil's advocate here and encourage you to use your time with her at your respective shoots wisely. Respectfully, too, don't you fuckers forget that. But test the waters. Flirt. Try to impress her. Maybe if you're even feeling brave, ask her out, see what she'd say. If it's you, tell the rest of the guys who haven't had their turn yet so that they don't have to hold out hope. If it's not you, tell the rest of the guys that, too."
Loki tried to keep his expression stoic as he took note of those who were visibly excited over the notion that perhaps you reciprocated their feelings. Rogers and Barnes were the givens, and then there was the newcomer, Xi. What surprised him was the wistful, almost confident smirk from Strange; he hadn't even been aware that the sorcerer was interested in you.
But what made a pit settle heavy in his stomach was the sight of a fond smile on his own brother's face. He could feel the white hot needles of betrayal piercing into his thoughts. He would have surmised that his brother knew of his affections towards you and wouldn't attempt to pursue you. He'd been mistaken.
Tumblr media
It took a few weeks and a considerable amount of elbow grease to get everything together, with decorating the studio with the various sets for the shoot being the most time consuming of it all, but the stage was officially set to start shooting for the calendar.
There might have also been various mini photoshoots with Natasha and Wanda in the name of test shots and practice throughout those few weeks, but you all swore that you would simply say that it was part of the setup process, which was technically the truth.
Now you were situated in front of an iMac that was purposed solely for the production of this calendar, the layout, the photo editing software to work on coloring, the vast array of fonts to choose from for the date numbers…there was just so much to work on other than just simply taking the pictures and slapping them on to a blank 2023 calendar.
Top that all off with you deciding that you wanted the month names to have a more personal touch, so you volunteered yourself to do the lettering, and you felt completely swamped, and you hadn't even taken a single picture yet. Well, until today, at least. Because today would be the first of the twelve shoots. January's. Tony's.
"You ready for me, Tweety?" you heard him call from the door. You made quick work to plug the memory card into the camera and made your way to the set with only a black backdrop placed.
"Ready when you are, boss," you hollered from your spot.
Tony walked in with slacks and dress shoes, opting to start the shoot with his shirt shed already, donning a necklace that held a pendant that almost resembled the arc reactor that had kept him alive for so many years. The very thing that started all this. "This is as naked as I wanna be. Both for this shoot and around you."
"You know what, Stark, I wanna say something about leading by example, but that's about as naked as I can take when it comes to you," you quipped, taking a few test shots. "Could you look a little over to your right? Don't move your whole body, just your head, and look like you're trying to figure out some algorithm that's stumping you."
Once he followed  your instructions, you took a few more shots, confident that one of those was the shot you would eventually choose for his page.
"Y/N I gotta tell you something. I may have told the guys that you have feelings for one of them," he said in a rush.
You lowered the camera from your face, suddenly feeling your entire body go cold. "You what?" you hissed at him in disbelief. "Tony why would you do that? How did you even know that I--"
"You looked at the list of names with a eyes of a schoolgirl having her first crush, I figured it out pretty quickly, Tweety," he answered your unfinished question. "As for why? Because not everyone's built to be alone. You're not, and you shouldn't be. I already know that some of them want you, so your time with them is their chance to, you know, get to know you a little more. So just be ready for some of these shoots to run a little longer since…they're gonna try and treat their time with you like a test date."
"Am I gonna regret agreeing to helping you with this calendar, Tony?"
"Absolutely not. I'm just trying to tell you that you don't have to be alone. There's literally a handful of guys in this very tower that want to be the man that gets to keep you company. Go on dates with you. Share your bed, even." You looked at him pointedly, causing him to put his hands up and jokingly say, "Don't worry though I'm not one of them, fuck that. No offense, you're gorgeous, but--no. You're like the older sister Morgan wishes she has, Y/N. You're like my kid."
That caused you to let out a laugh that rang through the entire studio, infectious enough that Tony joined in. You decided that a candid shot of him laughing would make a great outtake, so you snapped a quick picture.
"And what if the guy I'm interested in…doesn't treat our shoot like a test date?" you asked him,  your tone suddenly becoming more serious. "What if he just wants his shoot to be over and done with?"
"Y/N you have nothing to worry about unless your guy's Barton, Rhodey, or Banner. That's all I'm gonna say on that. And if I'm wrong? You have full permission to wear one of my suits and beat the shit out of me. I told you, you're like my kid. I just want you to be happy, and if I can help in any way, of course I'm gonna do it."
You set your camera down and walked over to him to give him a hug. "Thanks, Tony," you said softly. You pulled away quickly and plugged the memory card into the computer. "You'll never get me to call you Daddy, though. Keep dreaming, Stark," you quipped as the images loaded up to your screen. "Now come over here and tell me which shots you like from these."
He made quick work of choosing his favorite pictures from the batch, your hunch being right that the shot was among those first ones you took. "Now that my part's finished, you still have Barton's and Rhodey's shoots to ready yourself. We already know it's neither of them, and they're not into you, either. Barton's got  his family and Rhodey's in line for the world record of biggest long distance relationship with that thing he's got going on with Danvers."
"So you know which ones are gonna try?"
"I have a feeling I know." He clapped a hand on your shoulder. "The gun show starts with Ten Rings. Good luck, Tweety."
With that, he left you to work on the coloring for his shot, completing his page. All the while, you'd resigned yourself to this whole "impressing you" thing amongst the guys to ultimately be a practice in futility if you actually held out hope that you would discover that your feelings were reciprocated.
After all, what were the chances that a literal god like Loki would ever even consider being with a human like you?
Tumblr media
A/N: Wait hold up the gun show starts with who?? Tony?? 👀😳
Now would be a good time to tell you that each part up until part 11 "december" will have the corresponding calendar photos as the post media. And by the time this story is finished, you'll all have a 2023 calendar courtesy of me and @mochie85 😄

My 2023 in fics
Thank you @lorifragolina for tagging me. I know you tagged my main account @jad3w1ngs but as all my fics were Stranger Things this year I'm going to do it here.
I'm going to only talk about fics that I either started or finished during the month as I've written an awful lot this year and it was very hard to pick faves.
January
I'm choosing my current ongoing Byergrove fic 'Take a picture, it'll last longer' that I started on New Year's day last year. I've loved writing such an angst heavy fic and exploring the trauma that might occur from what Billy went through at the beginning of this fic. Also Jon is the best boy in this and he's so soft (which is quite a departure to how I seem to normally write him).
February
For Feb I have possibly my favourite Mungrove one-shot that I've ever written. 'It means to lie beneath' was a Billy Hargrove Bingo fill and definitely something that is on my list to expand into a full fic (just as soon as I finish some of my other series). It was really fun writing a Succubus/Incubus fic and I can't wait to further explore the world I built.
March
Considering that this is my biggest fic and also the one that really got me into this fandom I have to shout out my Harringrove fic 'To submit is such sweet pleasure'. My first foray into A/B/O and I just love these boys together in this fic.
April
This is possibly my least read fic but one that definitely holds a special place in my heart. My first submission for Mungrove week, 'Ghost' was my chance to try a good old fashioned song fic and practice some more poetic writing.
May
'Swapping more than clothes' was the Stoner Polycule fic that I finished in May and was also a Billy Hargrove Bingo fill. Really enjoyed writing each of the boys dynamics in this and of course having some straight up smut where Billy gets railed by multiple partners is always good.
June
I can't believe I only started 'Forged' in June. I love, love, love this fic and can't wait to actually get to the point where I introduce Eddie (or Edeval as he is in this) as a character. For a Mungrove fic of mine it is quite funny that we're nearly on chapter 6 and he's still not appeared.
July
Another fic I'm obsessed with writing, 'Chokehold' is my darker Stoner Polycule fic. We're still early days with this one (considering it's chapter 5 on what is at least a 19 chapter fic) but I think about this fic almost daily.
August
Wow, I finished 'The Stolen Sapphire' all the way back in August? That feels so long ago. My pirate Harringroveson fic that was such a pleasure to write and so many people seemed to love, I can't not put it here.
September
I was struggling between 2 of the Mungrove fics I wrote in September but considering the sheer number of times I've re-read 'Knock Once' that's got to be the one I go for. Pure smut with my best two boys, and also the beginning of my realisation that this might just be my ride or die ship for ST.
October
I just have to include one of my Harringrove kinktober fics for this month so I'm going with 'Wanna see what's under that attitude' because it's chock full of all the kinks, and Billy in lingerie is always a pleasure.
November
Another fic that I personally feel went a little under the radar but one that I love nonetheless is 'little and broken, but still good'. My first attempt at writing one of the boys as a dad and I just adore Eddie's daughter Chrissy. Also kindergarten teacher Billy is something I need to write more of. Needless to say this is another Mungrove fic and was one of my last fills for the Billy Hargrove Bingo.
December
I've only just started this one, and I had planned on it being a short fic but I've gone a bit ham with the world building so we're in for a longer ride. Anyway, 'To keep good company' my historical A/B/O Harringrove fic is actually going to be my first attempt at some proper slow burn (although is it slow burn if they're already mated?)
This was a lot of fun, and very nice to look back at all that I've accomplished in 2023.
My absolutely no pressure tags are for @shieldofiron @weird-an @ihni and anyone else who wants to join in 😄

NIGHTWISH Singer And SABATON Drummer Welcome Their Second Child
Tumblr media
NIGHTWISH singer Floor Jansen and SABATON drummer Hannes Van Dahl have welcomed their second child, a daughter named Lucy.
Jansen and Van Dahl already have a six-year-old daughter named Freja, who was born on March 15, 2017.
The Dutch-born vocalist revealed the news in a social media post earlier today (Friday, October 20). She shared a photo of her, Hannes, Freja and Lucy holding hands, and she wrote: "There she is! With great happiness we can announce the birth of our second daughter Lucy! Big sister Freja is delighted with our dark haired little girl too!
"Health is not a given fact, and so it's humbling to report that both our baby girl as mom are in a great one! We are enjoying these special moments to the fullest and ask for understanding of our privacy in this intimate time! Big thanks for all the love and support we received during the pregnancy! We have now welcomed our dear Lucy into this beautiful world".
Shortly before Freja was born, Hannes was asked by Spain's Metal Journal whether his family situation would have an impact on his ability to tour with SABATON. Hannes said: "Well, you know, as far as I'm concerned, nothing will really change, 'cause this is what I do, an this is… this is what I do to make a living. People have had kids before in this business. So, to stop any worries — 'cause I know a lot of people are worried [about me] quitting the band — I will stay in the band. And as far as I can say, when it's time, I need to go and be there with my family. But when I've done that, I'm going back to touring. So I won't leave. I will be there."
Jansen herself had spoken about the challenges of raising a child while being in a touring band like NIGHTWISH. She told Finland's Radio Rock in 2016: "Of course, it's a very challenging combination, and I was very happy that the way [NIGHTWISH is] today — or, actually, have always been — it's a very open group; we can talk about things. And the guys, actually, were curious. A few months ago, we started talking about it, like, 'So, 2017… How about kids? Yeah?' So it's great to think about things together: how can we combine it? Also 'cause my partner is in a successful band, touring a lot. Yeah, then you need the cooperation of the people that you are family with also. So I am not afraid that won't work. It will be a challenge, for sure, but, yeah, a little SABATON or NIGHTWISH daycare program sounds lovely, doesn't it? [Laughs]"
Jansen also dismissed rumors that she would leave the band after welcoming her first child. She told Mariskal Rock TV: "No, I won't [quit NIGHTWISH]. I love this way too much; don't worry. You don't even have negative speculations one way or another. Things are great, and let's keep on doing this forever."
NIGHTWISH played its last concert before its current break from touring on June 17 at Lemonsoft Stadion in Vaasa.
In November 2022, Floor revealed that she was "cancer free" after undergoing surgery to have a tumor removed following a breast cancer diagnosis.
In April, NIGHTWISH surprised fans by announcing that the band was not going to be playing any live shows for the foreseeable future and would be not be touring in support of the group's next studio album, which is tentatively due in 2024.
Floor's debut solo album "Paragon", arrived in March.
As part of NIGHTWISH, Jansen has landed two number one albums in Finland, and Top Five albums in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
Born in the Netherlands, Jansen joined her first band, one of the world's first symphonic metal bands, AFTER FOREVER, when she was only 16 years old. The group went on to release five albums from 2000 to 2007, before they broke up in 2009.
Jansen's next band, REVAMP, released two albums in 2010 and 2013, before she joined NIGHTWISH as a full-time member. NIGHTWISH's first album with Jansen as the lead singer was 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful", which landed in Top 10s around the world. This was followed by 2020's "Human. :II: Nature." , which was also an international success.
Jansen has toured extensively with the band and appeared on three of NIGHTWISH's live albums "Showtime, Storytime", "Vehicle Of Spirit" and "Decades: Live In Buenos Aires".
In 2019, Jansen participated in the popular Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers" where she scored a big hit with "Phantom Of The Opera" together with Henk Poort. She was recognized with a Dutch Popprijs award — a prestigious accolade for artists that has made important contributions to Dutch music. In the same year, her first solo tour sold out in less than 24 hours.
Jansen performed live with NIGHTWISH for the first time on October 1, 2012 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington following the abrupt departure of the band's lead singer of five years, Anette Olzon. Jansen officially joined NIGHTWISH in 2013.

Niall Horan announces ‘Heaven’
Tumblr media
“Heaven” is Horan’s first new solo release in nearly three years
Niall Horan is set to release “Heaven,” his first new solo single in nearly three years on February 17th via Capitol Records. The chart-topping artist wrote the track with John Ryan and Joel Little, who also produced, and Tobias Jesso Jr. Horan recorded the song in Southern California. Seven-inch vinyl and CD editions of “Heaven” will be released in April.
“One thing I’ve learned over the years is that society loves to pressure us into reaching certain milestones by a certain age,” Horan shares. “Whether that’s getting married or anything else that really should be based on our own instincts. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to let go of those expectations and just follow my heart. The chorus of this song is saying that what I have in my life currently is amazing. So it would be crazy to ruin that by giving into outside pressures.”
Horan teased “Heaven” on TikTok, where his posts have amassed over 100 million views since October 2022. In the week leading up to the single’s official announcement, excitement grew as fans around the globe began receiving boxes containing a candle, lyrics from the chorus of “Heaven” and a QR code that led to heavenwontbethesame.com.
On May 26th, Horan will make his festival debut at Boston Calling. He’ll be performing at numerous festivals around the world, including Pinkpop and Isle of Wight. Horan joins The Voice as a new coach for Season 23, which premieres on March 6th on NBC.
Originally from Mullingar, Ireland, Horan has sold over 80 million records and toured the globe multiple times as part of the iconic One Direction. His full-length solo debut Flicker entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 in October 2017 and contained the 3x RIAA Platinum single “Slow Hands” and the 2x RIAA Platinum “This Town.” The album hit the top 10 in 20 countries total. With combined global streams surpassing eight billion, Flicker has gone Platinum in five countries, including the US, and Gold in additional seven countries. Heartbreak Weather followed in 2020 and topped the UK’s Official Albums chart and Billboard’s Top Album Sales tally.

THE INTERNET IS IN ITS LOUIS TOMLINSON ERA AND IT’S ABOUT TIME
By MICHAELA GALLIGAN | 13.9.2023
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.
In January 2016, One Direction, one of the biggest bands on the planet at the time, went on an 18-month hiatus. But in 2023, that “break” sounds more like a “breakup.” Since then, the five members of the band have gone on to pursue solo careers in music, and very successful ones at that.
Zayn Malik and Niall Horan have both released three very popular albums, Liam Payne had one of the most popular pop songs of 2019, and Harry Styles has won multiple Grammy Awards and is one of the most famous artists in the world today. However, the band’s eldest member, Louis Tomlinson, didn’t jump on the solo train immediately like the others, making his rise to solo popularity a little slower. But he is finally getting his flowers and fans couldn’t be happier.
Louis Tomlinson was born in Doncaster, England on Dec. 24, 1991. He, Horan, Malik, Payne, and Styles all auditioned for the singing competition series The X Factor (U.K.) in 2010 as solo artists but were later grouped into a band that they named One Direction. The band did extremely well on the show, and even though they did not win the competition, they won the hearts of millions of fans across the world and became overnight sensations. They went on to release five albums and went on multiple world tours. Zayn Malik left the band in March 2015 for personal reasons and to start his solo career, and the rest of the band split in 2016 to do the same.
Tomlinson took a different approach to solo music than the rest of the boys, choosing to release several singles not associated with albums or EPs. These songs, including “Just Hold On” and “Back to You,” were very successful and took a large amount of inspiration from the British pop genre.
Tomlinson continued his release strategy until October 2019, when he announced his first album Walls. The album was released in January 2020 and featured 12 songs by the artist, carrying a heavy pop-rock influence. Tomlinson’s first world tour was postponed due to the pandemic, but he was able to perform the album at several festivals and venues. Today, the album has sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide.
Tomlinson announced his second album, Faith in the Future, in August 2022 and released it in November that same year. This album is mainly comprised of the British indie rock genre and has 18 tracks. It has been extremely successful, hitting No. 1 in the U.K. upon its release. Tomlinson is currently touring the album in Europe.
Tomlinson is finally getting the praise he deserves, but it was a difficult journey to get there. In his recent documentary, All of Those Voices, he discussed how he was often overlooked in One Direction, being given smaller vocal parts due to his voice being unique for the pop genre. In their first two albums, Tomlinson has very few solos and features, which has always upset his die-hard fans, myself included. Despite this, he may have contributed the most to the band in the form of songwriting.
On One Direction’s eighth anniversary in 2018, Tomlinson tweeted, “And remember if it’s by One Direction and it’s a banger I probably wrote on it”, really emphasizing his crucial role in the song creation aspect of the band’s music in his infamous snarky way. He has also grown into his voice much more since 2010, now singing confidently at his concerts and festivals.
Right now, Tomlinson is all over the internet due to press from his current Faith in the Future world tour. He is one of the most viewed music artists on TikTok and his albums are getting loads of streams every day. Buzz is still going around from his documentary release in March. Everyone loves seeing the behind-the-scenes content of touring and his relationships with his family and friends, especially the adorable one he has with his son Freddie. As someone who has been waiting for everyone to go into their Louis craze for a decade now, I love to see it.
I highly encourage you to go and listen to Tomlinson’s music, not only because I am a huge fan and love him, but also because his songs are extremely fun and have very positive, uplifting messages. He is very reflective about his time in One Direction and thankful for the opportunities he has been given in his music career. If you’re ever thinking about buying a ticket for his concert, do it! I recently saw him live for the first time this July in Tampa and it was such an amazing show, where he played almost every song from his most recent album, two One Direction songs, and an Arctic Monkeys song. He and his team are amazing when it comes to making tickets affordable for fans. He even has a music festival, The Away from Home Festival, that changes locations every year and is completely free to fans. So here’s to hoping it will be in North America next year!
Louis Tomlinson is notoriously very kind to fans and appreciates all the support he is given. So if you ever need a serotonin boost, just look up a video of him interacting with fans. He is just amazing. Go support him and all that he does. Listen to Walls and Faith in the Future, and buy that concert ticket! He deserves all the love. I’m already ready for a third album!

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. Later, Gary became part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and was one of its first presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

I just love your work!!! Brightens up what is otherwise a crappy, boring day!!
Now I have a request (I’ve been wanting to write this myself but my day job and real life get I the way)
The reader/Y/N (whatever you call it) is a Byers so had to go to California and is in a relationship with Steve. For whatever reason he couldn’t come to you when Mike went to see Eleven and you couldn’t come to him (better excuses than Nancy and Jonathan’s) so when the van appears in Wheeler’s driveway, she gets out of the van (slightly after the others do which has Robin comfort Steve when he thinks she’s not there) and then she appears and there’s lots of running into each other’s arms as they reunite and you can go on from there! Hope it makes sense!!!!!
I love this! And of course, I can’t find the gif I wanted to use where she’s rubbing his back, but I’ll use this instead cause poor baby looks sad.
Tumblr media
Five months.
Five months and 2,000 miles apart is an awful thing to deal with when you’re separated from the love of your life.
When you, your mom, brothers Will and Jonathan and El moved to Lenora, California after the events at Starcourt Mall over the last summer, you were heartbroken.
You didn’t want to leave Steve Harrington.
Steve, who’d been your boyfriend for over a year at that point. You’d never been away from him and your heart was absolutely crumbling when you left.
It had been the longest five months between October and March, which was currently spring break. While El and Mike wrote letters to one another, you and Steve constantly talked on the phone—much to your mother and brother’s annoyance.
“If I have to hear, “No, you hang up first!” one more time, I’m gonna barf,” Will complained.
Jonathan one time had went ahead and did it for you.
“No, I’ll hang up!” he said, with a cheerful smile, making you grimace.
“I don’t complain when you talk to Nancy,” you’d huffed.
“That’s because we have adult conversations, unlike you and Steve,” he’d rolled his eyes.
“Steve’s older than both of you. As am I, if I remember correctly.”
“This is why I choose to write letters,” El shrugged, unfazed by the arguing.
She was just happy that Mike was coming to California for spring break.
You and Jonathan hadn’t lucked out when it came to your significant others though.
Steve didn’t have enough money to afford a round trip ticket to California since his parents cut him off. He was working at Family Video and while that made him decent enough money, it just wasn’t enough to afford the ticket.
You couldn’t go to him because your mom absolutely refused for you to. Joyce Byers had been through a lot in the last couple of years.
Two years ago, Will had went missing, disappearing into an alternate dimension none of you had even been aware of before.
One year ago, she lost her old school friend and boyfriend Bob, to one of the horrid creatures from said different dimension. He literally died in front of her eyes.
Eight months ago, last summer, she lost Hopper. Someone you were sure she harbored feelings for. No one found him after the blast and the fire at the mall. He was presumed dead.
So you could understand why she prohibited you from going back to Hawkins. She was just terrified.
But when she went missing on a “business trip” to Alaska, El was arrested for assault of her school bully—you still wish you’d seen her click the girl, she deserved it and more for the way she’d treated your younger sister—and none of you could reach your mom, spring break turned into quite the dumpster fire.
Mike had arrived and enjoyed all of a half day with El before the roller rink incident and everything fell apart.
What happened next was so wild you thought you’d accidentally smoked some of Jonathan’s and his friend Argyle’s stash of weed—it was that crazy. In fact, you kinda wished it’d been a weed induced dream.
It involved secret agents then dead secret agents, when there was a shootout at your California home, Argyle freaking the fuck out, ending up in the desert searching for El and a woman named Nina and a side trip to Utah to visit Dustin’s girlfriend Suzie.
Between finding out Nina was a thing not a she, finding El in the middle of the desert, rescuing her and trying to aid in defeating a new villain that you and the others had no idea even existed up until this point, you were exhausted.
It was a long two days heading back to Hawkins. You were grateful to be seeing Steve, but you were worse for wear, tired and run down after everything you, your family and friends had experienced.
You fell asleep about an hour from home, missing the absolute chaos of what your town had turned into. You were told later about the huge cracks in the earth throughout the town, the line of cars you’d passed that we’re leaving Hawkins as you’d entered it, about the “earthquake” that had caused so much damage.
But in that moment, you were peacefully unaware, lost in your dreams.
Steve was just as confused as the rest of his friends when he heard Mrs. Wheeler’s comment.
“Did someone order pizza?”
“Pizza?” Dustin asked turning around.
He turned with Robin and Nancy, spotting a van—Surfer Boy’s Pizza labeled on the side.
His astonishment was as clear as everyone else’s when he saw who all stepped out.
Mike.
El.
Jonathan, Will.
A boy with long black hair, a visor and bright, mismatched clothes followed.
His eyes scanned to see if there was anyone else in the van and he was sure his chest broke open when he saw no one.
Where were you? Were you okay? Did something happen to you?
Mrs. Wheeler ran to greet Mike, hugging him tightly.
Dustin bounded toward Will and El, throwing both his arms around his long missed friends.
Nancy flew into Jonathan’s arms, embracing him tightly.
At least the others were happy, Steve thought as he fought a frown, walking back to the car trunk they were previously loading with boxes. He felt Robin’s hand on his back, patting it lightly. Even without words, he knew she was there for him.
An unfamiliar voice—which he figured belonged to the stranger—spoke behind him. He didn’t turn around, not paying attention. He bent to pick up another box to put in the trunk.
You woke to Argyle’s smooth, relaxed voice.
“Hey, sleepyhead. We’re here.”
You opened your eyes, seeing the familiar view of the Wheeler household. The van was now empty and you rubbed your eyes quickly, standing up so you could get out.
That’s when you saw him, back turned to the van, in his regular Levi’s and a blue sweater that looked amazing on him, even from the back.
His heart skipped a beat when he heard a familiar voice.
“Steve?”
He turned around, seeing you still standing in the van, having yet to step out. You looked tired, but also like you’d just woken. Your hair was flattened a bit on one side from where you probably rested your head against the window. But you were the most beautiful sight to his eyes. At some point, the box fell out of his hands, landing in the driveway on its side and he was running towards you.
“Steve!” you exclaimed happily, a smile breaking out on your face.
You leaped down, running towards him until he scooped you up in his arms and you were being spun in circles. You were too happy as you hugged his neck tightly to care about being dizzy. He was real under your touch, all soft hair and warm, sun kissed skin.
“Oh my god,” he breathed, as if he couldn’t believe you were real either, “When I didn’t see you come out of the van, I assumed the worst.”
“I fell asleep,” you smiled sheepishly, “Argyle woke me up.”
“I’m just so glad you’re okay,” he said, grabbing your face in his hands, kissing you hard.
When he pulled away, you wrapped your arms around his torso, snuggling into his chest. You weren’t going to let go anytime soon.
“From now on, I’m not letting you go anywhere. You’re stuck with me, baby.”
And that was completely fine with you.

Midnights is the break up album
youtube
In the above interview with Zane Lowe Taylor talks about Happiness and how it is about ending a long term life changing relationship. Taylor said it was the last song for Evermore, and started relating to friendship. Toward the end she switches to speak in the first person. That was in December 2020, 1.5 years before Midnights. After that we saw Joe very little.
The concept of the album was a series of midnight thoughts throughout Taylor’s life, which many tracks are, however there is an element of viewing the downfall of this relationship through them. I think Taylor didn't want to make the announcement through a publicist but through her lyrics on Midnights.
Question, Glitch and SOTB are plain wishing she was with an ex
Bejeweled is remembering when CH didn’t value her love, reflecting that she also also bored and under appreciated in her current relationship
Midnight rain is possibly the toughest, it’s reflecting on a relationship she let go for fame
Dear reader is a statement that she is not who her fans think because the happy in love narrative is not her experience
Taylor stopped liking Joe's IG posts 11 May 2022, he didn’t attend her NYU doctorate ceremony on the 18th May 2022, midnights was released in October and the break up announced the following April after the Eras tour had started.
A relationship having ended would not have been announced in real time ahead of a world tour and new album. Us knowing is a secondary challenge to actually going through the break up. What I wonder about is why was Invisible String ever on the setlist, was it there to be removed when it went public?
Taylor stopped liking his IG posts 11 May 2022
Taylor also went from always liking Joe’s IG posts to stopping between 27 April and 11 May 2022, she hasn’t liked one since:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So when?
Taylor may share one day. But to me this lyric in Stop you're losing me hints at the point she realised it was over:
Fighting in only your army Frontlines, don't you ignore me I'm the best thing at this party (You're losin' me)
Taylor is the best thing at most parties, but after showing up at the Golden Globes and wrap parties for a not great TV series for Joe he made some not great (or not at all) showings at big events for her:
2020
25 November - In the Long Pond Session Taylor said Joe was William Bowery
16 December - Taylor said to Zane Lowe that Happiness is about ending a long term relationship, she switched to first person
2021
15 March - Grammy's Joe had never come & it was COVID limited, but he won a Grammy for *Album of the year* & I'd say she has the pull for a ticket for a producer of it
April - Folklore credits update to add Joe as producer on 6 songs, including 3 William Bowery wrote, Grammy eligible. No credits for midnights and evermore.
12 May - Taylor was honored with a Global Icon award but Joe left to film in Belfast the week before. Harry also at Brits and won.
21 August - Joe actually seen with Taylor
14 September - Taylor seen in ireland, seen at conversations with friends cast party
14 November - Blake, Ryan, Sophie & Selena join Taylor at the SNL All to Well launch party. Joe A was filming in Panama.
2022
27 March - They went to the Vanity Fair Oscars pre-party, but Taylor skipped the 2022 Grammy's, Brit Awards and Oscars. It's interesting that the only photos of Taylor are of getting out of the car with Joe squinting, they bypassed the press line.
11 May Taylor stopped liking Joes IG posts
15 May conversation with friends airs, Joe says his costars real name, then F*** (character name) in a sex scene in the Final Cut of episode 3 at 11:55 and 12:10.
18 May - Taylor receives an honorary doctorate from NYU, while not a party it is a massive deal. In her speech she smiled at a particular part of the audience when she referenced friends and family, but Joe was at a Rising Hollywood party in LA.
19 May - Joe on Kelly Clarkson talking about William Bowery
31 August - VMAs afterparty - Joe & Taylor's unglamourous run to a car. VMAs have been important to Taylor since 2009. She was on the cusp of winning the most VMAs ever, announced Midnights and All to Well won. I wonder if Midnights was already done though.
20 October - Midnights pap walk where Joe uses a coffee table book to shield his hand from being held.
2023
9 February - Grammy afterparty- Joe came to afterparty
31 March - The 1 replaces Invisible String.
8 April - break up announced said it occured 'weeks earlier'

SO it’s a long story that i’m gonna try to be really really short due my situation (i’m currently working but i cannot work if i think about this).
everything started in 2019, when a friend of mine told me this website, calls JYP FANS, this website is an official site where you can see the schedule of the idols, see the main infos and stuff like that. but especially the letters. you can actually send letters to the members and they can read it. be aware, there’s two type of letters: one for public letters, one for private letters.
my friend were so happy telling me how Channie was reading her letters and how she was so happy to feel understood. so i asked her, can you send me one for jisung, and then she did. everything started from that letter.
During march of the same year i sent a physical letter to jisung, the one that is on my pinned post, this one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you could actually understand my reaction, panicking and being too exited for this, that was the confirm to me that i needed to keep “talkin” to him in some sort of way because.. i needed to keep feeling that BEAUTIFUL energy that i felt when i watched this video and i saw him with my letter in his hands.
So i decided to, find another way to send him letters, my love language is that, i needed to keep talking to in some way. so i started to write on the private letters of the JYP FANS.
The letters started to be one every day, every day i was telling him more of what i was going through and what i was feeling and dealing with, i just thought: he really listened the first time, so why not. I saw that he started to read my letters, example:
Tumblr media
everyday, more letters, every time i felt so good when he was reading my words and my words only. so many things that i said to him came to some of his songs too! and i know it’s just a coincidence that sounds really silly and stupid now.
i wrote so many letters for him, that made me feel that i was touching the sky with my fingers, i thinks he knows more about me than everyone else. i was so scared that all of that would be taken away, and that happened.
the private letters of the JYP FANS after a while disappeared. for the first time in my life i felt the world under my feet disappear and i was drowning in a timeline where i was completely lost. cause my letters, that was routine, that thing that started as a game in september 2019, until october 2020 was my completely routine. sometimes i think it was just a fever dream, just something that i made up in my head, but that was not. everytime i ask myself, what could happened if now, that private letters that it’s close, would be open. what i would feel? what i would tell him?
sometimes i like to write some letters for him, in the public letters, just to give him an update, but has the name says the public letters are for everyone, everyone can open them and read them, i never have feel completely sure that he’s reading them.
that’s what i wanted to say, i wanted to say that i miss that days, when i was just passing my time writing for him and he was really there reading my letters. i just miss him, i miss my lil sunflower, i miss the views in my letters.
i know that sounds really childish and maybe not everyone are gonna believe it, but i actually don’t give a fuck because the only thing that i’m thinking of is the moment when i was writing for him and him only. that’s my roman empire.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated: 1995 THE YEAR IN WRESTLING. March 1996
MANAGER OF THE YEAR: JIM CORNETTE 25,762 votes
It really wasn’t a strong year for managers this year. Many of our readers lamented that for this award, they have a very weak crop from which to choose. Nevertheless, Jim Cornette was able to distinguish himself sufficiently to capture Manager of the Year honors for the third time.
“I never could stand him or his methods,” wrote Bobby Zlada of Louisville, Kentucky, “but once again, you can’t argue with his success.”
For Cornette, it was a year in which he pulled several surprises. It was his decision to  team Yokozuna with Owen Hart. That unlikely duo defeated The Smokin’ Gunns at WrestleMania XI and captured the WWF World tag team title. Despite the rumors that Yoko and Owen were going to split up, the “Louisville Lip” kept them together, and he even managed to get Yokozuna some World title shots after he and Owen lost the belts in October.
Cornette convinced Davey Boy Smith that it would be in Smith’s best interest to become a rulebreaker. That advice earned Cornette another helping of hatred, but it did in fact move the Englishman dramatically closer to the WWF World belt.
“Jimmy has a sense of knowing when to make the right move,” said Dennis Condrey, who was once a part of Cornette’s famed Midnight Express. “He zigs when folks think he should zag, and usually he proves everybody wrong.”
{Perhaps the biggest surprise of all came when Cornette announced, late in 1994, that he would manage his long-time enemies. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. Somehow, some way, both parties put aside their monumental differences and formed a solid partnership, one that earned the Rock ‘n’ Rolls the Smoky Mountain tag belts.
By summer, however, Cornette was back to his rulebreaking ways in SMW again, as he led his Heavenly Bodies to both the Smoky Mountain and USWA tag team titles in a span of three days, a feat that severed to confirm his reputation as one of the greatest tag team managers ever. On the down side, he made himself look like a fool–again–when he began calling himself “General for the purpose of organizing his SMW Militia, a dastardly crew that includes Tommy Rich, Terry Gordy (the current SMW champ), and The Punisher.
He’s no military man, but he is a winner, whether you like it or not.
RUNNERS-UP
SHERRI MARTEL: 12,910 votes
First runner-up: By leading Harlem Heat to a fourth WCW World tag team title, Martel quieted any doubts about her managerial prowess. She does tend to interfere too much, but what rule breaking manager doesn’t? But you know what? She may have had an ever greeted year had she not spent so much time fawning over fellow manager Col. Robert Parker.
COL. ROBERT PARKER: 10,974 votes
Second runner-up: For the second year in a row, the cigar-chomping braggart has captured the number-three spot in the voting. Parker’s a big talker, but he gets results: He led Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater to an upset World tag title victory over Harlem Heat, gave Meng new purpose for a while, and signed Japanese sensation Kurasawa.
WOMAN: 7,203 votes
Third runner-up: Woman manages only one wrestler, The Sandman, but he was champion of the tough ECW for six months after defeating Shane Douglas last March, and that is an amazing feat in itself. She is more helpful to Sandman behind the scenes than she is at ringside, where she can be just as sadistic as any male in the federation.
VOTES FOR OTHERS (15,648)
Some of the top vote-getters who did not capture a runner-up spot include: Paul Bearer, Paul E. Dangerously, Ted DiBiase, Jimmy Hart, Kevin Sullivan, Sunny, and Harvey Wippleman.

ISRAEL REALTIME — war updates 19:45 Oct. 23
— HOSTAGE NEGOTIATION?  An Israeli source confirms: Qatar is working significantly to bring about a hostage deal with Hamas. (Yaron Avraham, N12). The White House spokesman for national security affairs, John Kirby, refused to answer the question about negotiations with Qatar on the release of additional abductees. Kirby said of the abductees: "Hamas should release all the abductees.”
— FOREIGN HOSTAGES TO BE RELEASED? A site “BahaNews” wrote, A number of foreign hostages who have been reportedly held by Hamas since October 7 are expected to be released "within hours," sources told Al Arabiya on Monday. ((I could not find this on the Al Arabiya English web site.))
Earlier today, The New York Times reported, citing information from an unnamed Israeli official, that the Palestinian genocidal group might release an additional 50 hostages with dual citizenship following extensive discussions between the United States and Qatar.
— AN ECONOMIST CORRECTS… a reader who is an economist wrote, “Higher interest rates keep the sheqel strong as you said. BUT that KEEPS PRICES FROM GOING UP! You wrote the opposite.”  Does it lock in the current pricing, keeping it from getting worse? “Yes.  And higher interest also makes borrowing dearer. Economics is a weird thing.”
— TAX AUTHORITY… Some reporting and payments may be delayed until March 31, 2024. The decision was made due to the war.  Contact the authority.
— NORWAY THREATENS… The Norwegian Foreign Minister stated that Norway is "ready to assist in the investigation of war crimes in Israel and Gaza”.
— POLITICS… Chairman of the Labor Party, MK Merav Michaeli: "Netanyahu needs to be replaced immediately. Not tomorrow and not after the campaign - immediately. Not only is it possible - it is necessary"
— KIRYAT GAT, RELATIVELY CLOSE TO GAZA… is gradually bringing back classes in kindergartens and elementary schools in the city. The daycare centers and kindergartens will open on Wednesday in an emergency format and the elementary schools will open tomorrow, also in an emergency format. High schools will continue to operate online only.
— PLANS AND PERMISSION FOR HORROR (gruesome warning)… The IDF published excerpts from an interrogation conducted with a Hamas terrorist who participated in the attack on Kibbutz Alumim and was captured by the security forces. During the investigation, the terrorist revealed that the terrorists received permission to commit atrocities, including religious legal instruction: "The plan was to go from house to house, from room to room, throw grenades and kill everyone, including women and children." The terrorist also confessed that Hamas approved abusing bodies and even dismembering them.  (N12 Nir Debori)
