Brother's Best Friend - Prom Part 2
Jake Seresin x Reader
“What do you need a suit for?” you overhear your brother ask.
You hold your breath, trying to make out Jake’s response. “I’m taking your sister to prom.”
You gulp, waiting for Bradley to react. It takes him a full half a minute to speak and, by this point, you’re nearly passing out from lack of oxygen. “You’re what?” he says finally.
Slowly, you exhale, glancing once more at yourself in the mirror. You’ve managed to pull off some spectacular winged eyeliner for the occasion and you’re sort of hoping that you look mature enough for Jake to perhaps start seeing you a little differently. You’ve never actually spent an entire evening alone with him, not without Bradley present. And this, well, this would normally be considered, by definition, a date.
You hear Bradley and Jake shuffling about as Bradley, no doubt, tears his closet apart looking for formal attire. You, meanwhile, take some time to perfect your hairdo. Once you hear your brother and Jake head down to the main floor, you start for the stairs, holding a pair of heels by their straps in one hand and the banister in the other.
The conversation in the kitchen ceases when the floor creaks, and the two of them look up to see you coming down the steps.
Bradley smiles warmly, approaching the foot of the stairs to take your hand and give you a hug. Jake takes a few steps toward you warily, his hands tucked away in the pockets of his – Bradley’s – pants.
“You look really nice,” Jake says once Bradley releases you.
You smile at him sheepishly. “It’s the dress,” you say, absently fluffing the skirt of your gown.
Jake’s mouth curls into a slight grin but he doesn’t respond.
“Alright, you kids have fun, now,” Bradley instructs, clapping Jake on the back as the three of you make your way into the front hall. "And stay out of trouble."
Jake lets you hold his arm as you slide on your heels. “Don’t worry, Bradley,” you say, “I’ll have him home by midnight.”
“Any requests?” Jake asks, popping open the glove compartment for you as he pulls out of the driveway.
You rifle through his pile of CDs and pull one out at random to look at the cover. “Cowboys from Hell?” you read the front skeptically.
“Yes,” Jake declares, nodding approvingly.
You make a face and return the CD to the pile in the glove compartment. “Do you have anything in here recorded in the last decade?”
Jake eyes you with a smirk. “Trust me, you’ll like it.”
“Let’s just listen to the radio,” you suggest.
“You okay?” Jake asks when you stop ten feet away from the door.
You shake your head anxiously.
Jake doubles back, coming to a halt before you, and takes your hands in his. “What’s up, buttercup?”
You meet his gaze with a troubled look. “Sean’s gonna know that this is a pity date.”
Jake narrows his eyes. “First of all,” he says, “fuck Sean.”
You chuckle lightly. “I almost did.”
Jake cringes, dropping your hands immediately. “Eww, I don’t wanna know.”
You raise your eyebrows, amused by his reaction. You imagine your brother would likely respond in the same way, however, so you don't read into it too much. “And second of all?” you ask.
Jake sighs sharply. “Second of all, this is not a pity date. I’m not that compassionate.”
You laugh. Jake likes to act all tough but you know him better than to buy that. “Yeah, you’re such a dick,” you agree with a shake of the head.
“And don’t you forget it,” he says, falling in step with you. He puts a hand on your lower back as he leads you inside. “By the way,” he says, lowering his head so that you could hear him over the music. “It’s not the dress.”
You gulp, nearly fainting as his breath washes over your cheek, and glance up to look at him. “What?” you utter, not even noticing all the stares you get because you've arrived to prom with a college boy.
He stops walking once the two of you are on the dance floor and he holds his hand out for you to take it as a slow song comes on. “You said it’s the dress, when I told you you looked nice,” he reminds you, closing his fingers around your hand while he rests his other hand on your waist. “It’s not.”
You gaze at him, speechless for a moment as he starts to sway you to the – now distant sounding – melody.
“It’s you.”

Tumblr media
these days jake seems to be getting home tireder than usual.
recently, they’ve picked up on practices with their new comeback and tour preparations training draining every ounce left of his energy, and today was no exception.
you heard jake come through the front door around midnight, sluggish footsteps getting closer to your bedroom at an agonising pace. watching the door swing open before a figure that resembled your boyfriend walked in eyes half shut.
he groaned at you in some form of greeting before throwing his body, face down, onto the bed, “ikeu, don’t fall asleep now. you have to wash up.”
he grumbled loudly, making sure to show his annoyance loud enough to reach you through the pillow. you feared he might suffocate in this state with the way his face was flat against it, you weren’t even sure how he was breathing right now.
you tried to usher him up by gently shaking his shoulder but you only received small cried but no sign of any getting up from him.
“babe, you need to wash up so you can sleep properly,” you whined, rolling him over so you could finally see his face.
he rubbed his eyes harshly, finally making an effort to even open them, “i don’t think i can stand up without sleeping right now.”
“how about i help you wash up, make sure you don’t fall in the shower and split your head open.”
“ooh, what are you trying to do?” he smirked, well tried. it just came off as a lazy smile.
you gently slapped his shoulder, “even when you’re half asleep you’re annoying. get up, i need to shower anyways.”
“is this that ‘saving water’ excuse, so you can see me naked.”
“shut up!”
+
right now you had a half conscious jake sitting on the closed lid of the toilet seat whilst you adjust the shower to the perfect temperature. the urge to snap a couple photos of him took over you, he looked so cute trying to keep his head up, trying his best to stay awake for you. too bad you left it on your bed when you had to wrestle him out of his jacket.
“come on pretty boy, clothes.”
“i like when you call me that,” he lifted his arms upright, expectancy shown the the way he didn’t move afterwards, “help me, pretty girl.”
you huffed, coming forward to help him undress. he was lucky he was in this state or you probably would’ve aimed the shower head at him - for encouragement.
once you were both undressed, you helped jake step in which seemed like a struggle and a half. you didn’t know there were so many times a person could slip taking two steps unti; he proved you wrong. “please jake, help me so i can help you!”
with that extra push you were finally able to get both of you safely under the falling water.
grabbing the shampoo, you began to slowly lather it up in your hands before working it in jakes scalp, having him let out a sigh as you began to massage through his hair.
“turn around so i can wash your back,” he obediently followed your orders, i guess today seemed to take a toll on him because he didn’t even try to slide a sly remark or tease you.
making sure you cleaned his whole body knowing how particular he was with his hygiene, using his favourite scents ( read: your shower gel ) instead of his usual. “don’t forget yourself, babe.”
even through his delirious state of mind, he’d never forget to make sure you’re okay. it just wouldn’t be jake without including you in everything he does, even when you were supposed to be taking care of him.
“i lied. i already showered earlier, i just wanted to help you.” you could hear small giggles coming from him, and although you couldn’t see his face you could imagine his face scrunched up with his eyes still closed as the sounds escaped his mouth.
“you’re so in love with me, its crazy,” maybe you spoke too soon.
“okay, time to get out.”
+
if getting jake out of his clothes was a struggle, you should try getting him in them.
“try to cooperate with me please! the air con is on you’ll get sick!”
“it’s too hot.”
“jake sim, i swear to god,” it was almost like trying to get a toddler into a pair of jeans that they thought ‘felt weird’, you were so close to tackling him, “if you don’t get dressed, i’m not cuddling you.”
you’d think you felt a gust of wind coming past you with how fast those few words had jake flying to put his pants on, “this is coercion, i hope you know that.”
“yeah yeah, just get in bed before i sleep without you.” you could him him grumbling under his breath, complaining about how you were genuinely about to withhold your love from your one and only boyfriend who could do no wrong.
soon joining him once you’d turned off all the lights but a dim lamp on your night stand, “you’re like a baby when you’re sleepy.”
“but you still love me right?” he questioned, peaking at you through the covers.
“how could i not, now get over here. i’m cold,” you could feel the excitement rolling off of him in waves. jake was always the type to outwardly express himself over little things you both did. whether it be cooking, eating or cuddling together like now, its almost like his excitement was to large for his body to contain within itself.
once he was nestled comfortable in your arm, you slowly began to rub your hand along his back in calm motions. he’d told you at the beginning of your relationship he found the gesture comforting, reminding him of when his mother used to put him to sleep when he was younger.
after a long day he had, he surely needed the extra love you could give him. even if he doesn’t ask for it himself.
“goodnight pretty girl, i love you.”
“i love you too, pretty boy.”

Falling For You
Miles finally takes you swinging with him
warnings: fluff, reader puts herself in danger (once), talk of family issues, not proofread
Tumblr media
it was around 1am when your phone woke you up out your sleep, you were about to ignore it, figuring it wasn’t anything important until it dinged again. and again.
it was your best friend, miles.
Tumblr media
you quickly hopped out of bed, knowing that if you didn’t you would’ve fallen back asleep. you wipe the sleep from your eyes, yawning as you unlocked the window and then plopped back down on your bed.
part of you wondered why miles was coming over so late. he’s never came over this late, let alone ask you to unlock your window. the other part of you was nervous, not too far into your friendship you had developed a big crush on miles. you tried to deny it at first, push it to the side and try to forget about it. but your feelings for him were too strong, and everytime you guys hung out it just got stronger.
you knew having a crush on your best friend wouldn’t end well, it never did. the second he finds out you like him, the friendship is awkward and pretty much over.
you were snapped out your thoughts when you saw his figure outside your window, quietly opening the window and falling into your room.
“hey, i’m sorry if i woke you up.” his voice was groggy, “can i crash here tonight?”
“yeah, is everything okay?” you asked.
he had a sullen look on his face, somewhat slouching over as he stood there.
“it’s a long story that i’ll tell in the morning. i just want to shower and sleep.”
“okay, that’s fair. let me grab you a towel and wash cloth.”
he enters the bathroom as you crept out to the hallway closet, quietly opening and closing the door trying not to wake up your household. you made your way back in your room, entering the now stuffy bathroom and placing down the towel.
“here!” you throw the washcloth into the shower, “thank you.” he slightly chuckles as you walk out the bathroom and shut the door.
you plopped down on your bed, pulling the covers over your body. you wanted to stay up and wait for miles to come out the bathroom but your eyes grew heavy as soon as your head hit the pillow. and next thing you know, you were drifting into your slumber.
˚₊𓆩༺🕷༻𓆪₊˚
when you woke up you weren’t expecting for miles to be right next to you, giving you no room to roll over and stretch. he was even under the same blanket as you, the blanket barely covering him since you’re known to hog the blanket.
“good afternoon.” miles yawns next to you, eyes still closed.
“how’d you know i was awake?” you raise a brow, “must be the spidey senses.” he shrugs, chuckling soon after.
“ok shutup.” you laugh, getting out the bed and walking towards your bathroom.
wow. so that happened. first sleepover with your best friend/crush. you were so ready to tell the group chat about this.
once you started brushing your teeth, miles joined you in the bathroom. washing his face and brushing his teeth with the extra toothbrush you had. once you two finished, you both made your way towards your living room. the house was empty so miles decided to turn on some music, his random ass playlist blaring through your speaker.
“so you gonna tell me why you showed up to my house past midnight?” you plopped down on your couch, “before you start interrogating me, can we at least eat?” he plops down next to you.
“i’ll order us something, there’s nothing in there.” you grabbed your phone, “now get to talking.”
“you didn’t even ask me what i wanted!”
“pasta! you always get pasta!” you say, you don’t understand his obsession.
“okay but which kind?” he raised his brow at you, a smirk creeping up on his face.
he’s stalling.
“talk, miles.” you look at him.
the smirk disappears from his face as he lets out a sigh, “my parents have been having some issues lately, so i just felt comfortable coming here instead of going home, plus i just knew that it would be peaceful here, with you of course.”
you didn’t know what you were expecting to hear, but it wasn’t that. that wasn’t really like his parents, they rarely argued with each other—well, at least you thought.
“i’m glad you feel comfortable here…” you slightly smile, “are you okay?”
“yeah. i just feel like i’m stuck in the middle of it. i just want to see my parents get along again, you know?“ he shook his head, for a second it looked like he was about to cry.
“miles? don’t cry.” you scooted closer to him, bringing him in your embrace, “i’m sure they’ll work out whatever it is they have going on.”
“you’re right, it’s not even my situation.” he pinched in between his eyes, “well, they are your parents so it’s okay to be emotional about it…” you tell him.
“i guess you’re right...” he sighs, sitting up.
“i’m always right.” you joke as the sound of the doorbell went off, “foods here!”
you pick the food up from the doormat and place the bag on the table, miles immediately opening it and taking out his pasta. you sat at the table with him and started eating your burrito, the both of you sitting in silence as you devoured your food.
“so…. i have a question.” you trailed off, you’ve always wanted to ask him this but for some reason was too nervous to.
“wassup?”
“and you can say no if you want!” you assured him, “alright well that depends n what it is.” he laughs, “just ask it already." he was growing impatient.
“can you take me swinging with you?” you blurted out, “and by take me i mean i clutch onto you as you swing across the city…”
"you being for real right now?" he looks at you, “why?”
he was amused by your request, he wasn’t at all expecting for you to ask him that.
“i just wanna see how it feels.” you shrug, your cheeks hot as ever.
“uh…okay, yeah i’ll take you.” he shrugs, “really?” your face lit up.
“yeah.” he chuckles, finishing up his pasta, “let me change into my suit real quick.” he gets up from the table and disappears down the hall.
the suit. you remember the first time you saw him in it. you couldn’t believe your eyes but you also couldn’t help but admire how good he looked in it.
while he changed you grabbed a jacket out the closet and threw on your shoes, waiting for him to come down. once he did it only took you two a couple minutes to make it to the roof of your building.
“you sure you wanna do this?” miles looks at you as he steps onto the ledge.
“positive.” you smile up at him.
he smiled back, pulling you up on the ledge with him. he wrapped his arm around your waist as your arms wrapped around his neck, and without a warning you two were free falling. you couldn’t even process what he was doing, one minute you were swinging up, then going down again. your face was buried in his neck, you were too scared to even look at anything.
“hey! you wanted to do this, the least you can do is actually look!” miles yells over the wind, “i promise i wont let anything happen to you. you’ll never hit the ground when i’m around.”
his words somewhat reassured you, peeking your eye open as he swung around a building.
“one, that was corny.” you yell, “two, you really wouldn’t let me fall?”
“of course not.”
you two continued to swing, you had eventually opened both of your eyes, taking in the scenery around you. after a while he began to speed up slightly, the wind blowing against your hair harder now. you almost felt like falling a few times, but miles kept a firm grip onto you, never letting you slip once.
when you saw that you two were approaching the brooklyn bridge you had two thoughts. one, how did we get here so fast and the second probably wasn’t the best idea but you wanted to test out a theory, was miles really going to keep his word? you didn’t even give it a second thought, as soon as you two swung on the side of the bridge your grip on miles loosened and in a matter of seconds you were free falling.
miles looks back sharply at you when he feels your weight suddenly disappear.
"hey, hey, hey!" you could hear the panic in his voice.
okay maybe this was a bad idea.
please catch me. please catch me. please catch me.
you don’t know how he did it, but he had reached you right before you hit the water.
"mami what in the world is wrong with you?! ¿eres estúpido?! what if i didn't catch you?" he spoke quickly as he held you tight in his arms once again, continuing to swing, “you promised you’d never let me fall.” you breathe out.
"that was under the assumption that you would never jump out of my grasp! you’re crazy!" he continued to scold you like you were a child.
okay yeah that was stupid, but a little fun…
“never do that again.”
“i’m sorry.” you chuckled, “and your laughing.” he sighs, you didn’t even have to see his face to know he was rolling his eyes.
you two swung around for a bit longer, before stopping for a break after a while. he landed on top of a building, where you had a perfect view of the sunset. you two sat on the ledge of the building, feet dangling as you looked at the city in front of you.
“that was…” miles started, “fun.” you finished his sentence.
“yeah, it was.” he chuckles, “better with you by my side.”
your cheeks heated up at his comment. you couldn’t even bring yourself to reply, just sitting there with a slight smile on your face. was this the right time to tell him? to just get it over with and see what he says?
“i’m glad to have shared it with you.” you finally spoke, “well what other spider-man do you know that you can do that with?” he joked.
all you could do was playfully roll your eyes at him.
“i’m kidding!” he laughs, pulling you into his side, so your head was now resting on his shoulder and his arm was wrapped around you, rubbing your arm.
now was the moment, if you were reading the signs right.
“miles, i-i have something i wanna tell you.”
okay that was the easier part, but now you have to tell him.
“what’s up?”
you took a deep breath, it’s now or never. what’s the worst that can happen? he says he doesn’t feel the same way and you jump off the building? (not really yall ssksksk) he stops rubbing your arm, pulling out of the embrace to look at your face.
“what is it?” he was starting to sound worried.
“i like you, miles.” you blurted out. that wasn’t as smooth as you wanted it to be but it had to do.
miles goes silent as he hears those words come out of your mouth. he doesn’t even know what to say, he just stares at you in shock.
"you do?" was all he said, the smile grew on his face, almost making it look goofy.
“uh yeah, that’s what i just said.” you say.
the boy was flabbergasted. so many emotions ran through him at the moment…shock, excitement and happiness. your sentence just completely changed his world.
"i...i like you too..." he was a bit overwhelmed but was trying to play it cool, “i've been in denial about my feelings for so long, but...i can't lie to myself anymore."
your heart was in your stomach.
“oh. wow, i wasn’t expecting this.” you chuckled nervously, “yeah, me either.” he says.
“so….” you trailed off.
“does this make us a couple now?” he looks at you.
when you envisioned someone asking you out you never would’ve thought it’d be your best friend while you two sat on the ledge of building.
“i guess it does…”

One Gift From You
Nanami Kento x Reader
Happy Valentine’s Day my readers! I hope you enjoy!
(Song Inspiration: Like No One Does by Jake Scott)
Nanami: I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’m being held up at work again.
You sighed deeply. It’s been about a month since he’s been stuck at work lately. But you know you couldn’t say much. You knew that having a boyfriend who is a sorcerer is going to be a lot. Even when Nanami warned you and gave you a few opportunities to back out, you chose to stay six years later.
You: I understand! Come home safe, honey. I have dinner left on the table for you. I love you❤️
And you were the non-sorcerer. You worked as a nurse and worked overnight shifts. And if Nanami returns home on time, you at least have ten minutes with him before you leave for work. You routinely clock in early, learn about your patients, and roughly plan your night before you get report.
And despite the short interaction you get with Nanami in the evening, you at least get to have a few hours with him before he leaves for work. Or at least until you fall asleep. You make his coffee and breakfast before you wash up for bed, even though he tells you not to.
“Sweetheart, you worked your third night,” Nanami said. You smiled and gave him a soft kiss.
“I know. But I love making you coffee,” you said. “And you said that you love the coffee I make.” Nanami would pull you in close to his arms.
“I don’t deserve you,” he said.
“You’re silly. You do so much for me.”
“Because you do everything for me.”
“It’s because I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
You sat by the computer. You drank your coffee and typed away, mentally ready to run to your patient’s room if something were to happen. After a few sentences of typing, you looked up and stared at the room. You looked at the monitors. Everything was okay.
“She okay?” the primary attending asked as he walked by. You nodded.
“After earlier, yeah she’s good,” you answered. You let out a small yawn. A cup of hot coffee was placed by your computer. You smiled. “Thank you, Mr. Doppelgänger.” He lightly laughed.
“I don’t see the similarities between me and your boyfriend.” You unlocked your phone and compared the picture between the attending and Nanami.
“Nah, you’re the doctor version of him.” He chuckled and shook his head at your silliness as he took a sip of his coffee.
“You two planned a fun date for tomorrow?”
“No, why?”
“Valentine’s Day. I’m surprising my wife. No matter how many times I tell her, she keeps forgetting,” he said.
“What?!” you questioned, your voice slightly louder and looked at your phone. You frowned. “I forgot.”
“Your birthday was a few days ago.”
“I forgot too.” He ruffles your hair playfully. His cell phone suddenly ringing, already walking away once he answered the call. You sighed. Usually, you and Nanami would plan something small for Valentine’s Day. But the two of you have been busy lately, especially Nanami. You heard your name get called from your coworker.
“You don’t mind keeping an eye on my patient?”
“I don’t mind, but maybe ask another nurse too? Just in case I’m busy with mine.”
“Thank you!”
It was past midnight. Your phone brightened and you smiled.
Nanami: Goodnight sweetheart❤️ I miss you and I love you❤️
You: Sweet dreams! I miss you too honey! I love you too❤️
The sounds of Nanami’s alarm woke him up at 6AM. He rubbed his tired eyes and looked at his phone. He cracked a smile from the missed text messages from you. All of them about how your night is going. And from the looks of it, it seemed to go pretty well so far. But after all the stories you tell him, there’s a good possibility that something was bound to happen before you left.
Quickly, he headed to the bathroom and shower. He wore his usual uniform without the jacket and decided to let his hair relax for now.
Two hours passed. He heard the door open and he heard your keys jingle as you closed the door. He heard you call his name. You sounded chirpy and awake. More than usual after a third night of work. Nanami headed to the door and smiled softly.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” he said. He cupped your face and kissed you deeply. You felt your heart race from his kiss. Six years together and he still gives you that effect. “How was work?”
“Way better than expected. My patient stayed stable. That’s all I needed for a good night,” you answered happily. “How was work? Did you get home too late?”
“Gojo-san kept pestering me to go out around 9. So we went out for drinks with Ieiri-san and I arrived home around 11:30,” he answered. “Work was good though.” You leaned up and kissed him again.
“Gonna keep your hair like this?” you asked curiously.
“Depends. How do you me to have it today?”
“Mmmm you can keep it like that for now.”
“I have something to show you.” Nanami held your hand and dragged you to the kitchen. Your eyes widened.
Nanami set up dinner. Two plates of pasta was placed on the table. A glass of red wine and a glass of water. A bouquet of red roses and sunflowers sat in between the meals and a small black velvet box sat in front of the flowers.
“Kento, what is this?” you asked with a large smile on your face. Nanami chuckled and lead you to the counter.
“Our Valentine’s Day dinner for breakfast,” he answered. “I knew you forgot. I took the opportunity to surprise you.”
“You got sunflowers?”
“They’re your favorite, sweetheart. I have another gift for you.” He left the kitchen and as quick as he left, he returned back. You gasped when a book bouquet appeared in his arms. You ran to him and looked at the books in the bouquet mixed with wildflowers. They were the ones you saved in your cart.
“How—When—Kento!” Nanami lightly laughed.
“I checked your cart list,” Nanami said with a playful smile. “You got a lot on the list. You should spoil yourself every now and then. Do you want me to pay for more?” You quickly shook your head.
“Thank you, though,” you said. You looked at Nanami. You gently brushed his hair away from his eyes. You felt yourself melt in his eyes and smile. “You truly are the best.”
“I want to be the man that you deserve.”
“And you are. I feel bad. I completely forgot about Valentine’s Day that I didn’t get anything for you.”
“I think I can change that.” You cocked your head slightly, looking at him with puzzled eyes. Nanami placed your book bouquet on the empty side of the counter and picked up the velvet box. Your eyes widened. You didn’t want to assume.
“Kento?” Softly, he called your name. Slowly, Nanami opened the box, revealing a diamond engagement ring that made you gasp. You felt tears from in your eyes.
“I bought this ring four years ago,” he confessed. He softly chuckled at your more surprised expression. “I waited for you to finish school. But then you were still busy so I waited and waited. And then I got busy. And…sweetheart. I love you. You’re so hardworking and do everything with no complaints. You still make sure I have food when I come home from work before you leave for work. You make me coffee when you come back. You make sure our home is tidy. It’s like I don’t deserve you because you go above and beyond for me.” You softly wiped your tears away before he got down on one knee. “And now that we finally have a romantic moment together, will you do me the honor and marry me?”
“Yes,” you said. Nanami slid the ring on your finger and picked you up by the waist and spun you around. You laughed and kissed him. “You’re not the only one who feels that way.” Nanami raised an eyebrow. “The way you massage my feet and legs after every shift, no matter how much sleep you got. The way you set up a hot bath when I text you how horrible my night was. When I’m too tired to cook, you order food from one of my favorite restaurants. Kento, you buy me something every week even when I don’t need it. You are a dream come true.”
“Am I?”
“Of course. You come home late from work, you hold me tightly because you know how worried I get. You let me cry in your arms without complaints. Nanami Kento, I can’t wait to become your wife and continue to do the things I love doing for you because I love you.”
“I love you, too.” He kissed you one last time before you pulled your phone and took a picture of your ring.
“Now I can show your doppelgänger my ring!” Nanami laughed.
“I don’t see the resemblance, sweetheart.” You playfully rolled your eyes. Nanami pulled your chair out and the two of you clinked glasses to celebrate.
Fun fact: Last week in my clinical, I kid you not I found my bf’s doppelgänger! I literally rubbed my eyes, thinking I was going crazy😂 I’m a nursing student and if you guys read some of my stories, I usually have the reader as a nursing student, nurse, or a tech. It’s the most relatable for me.

Midnights Like This
mat barzal x model!fem!reader
a visceral in doses blurb
warnings: pregnancy, mentions fear of rain/thunderstorms
Tumblr media
Because not every problem can be fixed with a single moment, no matter how much you want it to, you and Mat enrolled in couples therapy. It’s not because you don’t love each other anymore, but because your communication has gone off the rails a tad bit. Your therapist recommended staying apart for a few more months just so that the both of you can rebuild that once healthy communication. They also said that small dates- family dates or just you two -are really good for keeping things fresh. You’ve never had a problem with keeping things fresh, but you still went through with random date nights.
You are going on month three of therapy, and it should be your last month before you move back in with Mat. The month feels long with you eager to be back home and in his arms all the time. You’re also five months pregnant, it’s getting harder to take care of two boys by yourself majority of the time. Usually Mat will spend the night at the Hampton’s house, but he’s on a roadie so it’s just you and the boys.
It’s close to midnight, you’re laid out on the bed, watching Mat play. Your body is relaxed and warm until you hear the echoes of thunder, and you see the flashes of lightning that sneak past the curtains. Your heartbeat starts to speed up, but you have to remind yourself to stay calm. You focus on the sounds coming from the tv, hoping to calm down and that the thunder won’t wake up Nolan or Angel.
The low sounds of your phone ringing startle you, but “barzy🤰” popping up on your screen slowly starts to soothe your worry.
“Barzy,” you say softly, afraid your voice will break.
“Hey, are you okay? Is Nolan okay?” He asks hurriedly, you can tell he just got back to his hotel by the sounds of him discarding his things.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t we be?” You try to play it off, not wanting him to be worried when there’s nothing he can do when he’s across the country.
“Y/n. It’s storming over there. I know they aren’t your favorite thing, and I know Nolan is terrified of them. So I’ll ask again, are you both okay? Is Angel good, too?”
You forgot about Mat’s habit of checking the weather for wherever you and the boys are when he isn’t with you. Momentarily you forget about the fear rising in your chest, love replacing that emotion.
“We’re all good. I got a little anxious, but talking to you is helping a lot,” you answer his question, hearing the sigh of relief that falls from his lips. You could really go for a kiss right about now.
“I’m glad. You know you can always call me, even if it’s hours in the night, you can call.”
“I know, barzy. I think I should let you go, though. I don’t want to keep-“ you’re cut off by a house-shaking thunder that’s followed by a cry coming from Nolan.
You’re about to jump out of bed to run to him when you hear his little feet thumping against the wood floors. He throws your bedroom door open, tears falling rapidly and launching himself into the bed and into your side.
“No, don’t hang up. Let me talk to my little man,” Mat requests.
“Here, baby. Daddy wants to talk to you,” you whisper into Nolan’s ear as he is pressed up against you, of course, careful with your growing bump. You can feel him shaking and his lip is trembling. He peers up at you with wide eyes as his crocodile tears continue to fall. You caress his cheek, and push his hair out of his face while putting your phone on speaker.
“Talk to daddy.”
“Hey, nols. I miss you, bub, so much. I know it’s raining and loud over there, but I really need you to protect your baby brother and mommy,” he says to him.
“And baby too,” Nolan adds, making you smile at the way he remembers his newest, unborn sibling.
“Yes, and the baby, too. Protect them, okay. I love you. You should go back to bed, it’s late. Cuddle and give mommy kisses for me,” Mat finishes.
“Okay. Lub you, too, dada,” Nolan says in his little voice.
“I love you, baby. Thank you for calling,” you say.
“Always. I love you more. Goodnight, my love.”
“Goodnight.”

Criminal Minds: the moment they realized they are in love with you
AN: this one was just a cute excuse to write some sweet fluff with Aaron and Jack. In this Jack is a little kid, around 5 or 6 so again early seasons plot and character wise. This one is much more focused on Hotch and his internal monologue, unlike part 1
AN Edit: Sorry this one took so long. I had mixed feelings about how this one was going the entire time I wrote it.
Part 2: Aaron Hotchner
You were on the phone with Hotch and you knew he was pacing in his hotel room in frustration. Speaking to you was the only thing keeping him from loosing his mind. You always let Aaron vent to you, and with a job like his, he needed to do plenty of that so you two called often. At this moment he was explaining his current predicament to you, trying not to sound too frustrated. You could practically hear his footsteps grooving the carpet in the room. He paced while telling you how irritated and disappointed Hailey would be at him. He was half way across the country and would be getting home tomorrow night instead of today. The jet was having technical difficulties, which would postpone his flight home. Aaron was supposed to be meeting Hailey to pick up Jack for the weekend tomorrow morning, which was impossible now with the delay. He’d have to tell Hailey to hold off an entire day, messing up whatever plans she had. It irked you just a bit how much Hotch would beat himself up in the name of Hailey and her judgements. In your opinion, he shouldn’t be spending his time frustrated with the thoughts of his ex wife. That, and the fact that it wasn’t a big deal. Aaron was such a pessimist and it took a toll on him. You’d stay up late on calls with him in hopes it would relieve some of the weight on his shoulders. Hopefully he would let you help him with this.
“Aaron, let me help. I’m off work tomorrow and it’s been so long since I’ve gotten to see Jack. I don’t mind.”
“Y/N, you know I can’t ask you to do that,” he shot your request down immediately. You took a deep breath.
“Aaron, please drop it with the pride. You work too hard at your job already and still give a hundred percent to your son. You don’t have to do everything. Causing this extra stress for yourself is useless,” you paused for a moment and let him digest your words. “You are human, and I want you to have night where you come home with as little stress as possible, so just let me do this for you.” Aaron was a little taken aback with the forcefulness of you words, and equally as so with your kindness. He forgets how much you care. He fought with himself for a short while. You were so sweet and convincing. Your personable and almost charming nature had Hotch keep you at arms length for a while. He couldn’t just open himself up to you. He was afraid to become close with someone again. Nothing scared him more than falling for someone.
“Alright, you’re convincing. You can stay at my place. You know where I keep the spare key,” Aaron gave in. Your kindness resonated with him and he did need some help.
——————
It was almost midnight when Aaron got home from the bureau the next night. There was a soft rainfall as he unlocked his side door. Swiftly, he moved to punch the code into the alarm to keep it from blaring. He knew Jack was most likely sound asleep at this time. He placed his raincoat on the rack and walked into the living room on the way to his bedroom. The tv was on but muted, showing reruns of a children’s cartoon. Aaron set his briefcase down. He looked to the couch, which you were sound asleep on next to Jack, who’s head rested on your shoulder. You both looked so at peace while you slept to the hum of the cable box, ignoring the sound of rain pattering on the roof and the noises Aaron made entering his home.
Seeing you and Jack resting peacefully struck at Hotch’s heartstrings. He thought he probably hadn’t seen anything as sweet and cute and loving since he had been through his divorce. He knew it was silly, but Aaron thought you looked beautiful in the glow of the tv. Your features looked so soft and you looked so peaceful when you slept. Jack looked so comfortable next to you and he knew you loved Jack like he was family. Family. That’s what this reminded him of. Domestic bliss. Seeing you and Jack at home after a long and stressful case was just what he needed. The wonderful sight before him made him realize something. This is all he ever wanted. To come home to you and his son at the end of the day. To have that comfort and love and stability. A fond place to keep his heart, people who loved him. A family. Aaron was wishing every night was like this. The warm and intense feeling in his chest was almost startling to Hotch. It had been so long since he had felt that way. For so long he feared this feeling, this revelation, as he had been fighting and pushing away his feelings for you for so long, but watching you and Jack sleep so calmly and happily, it confirmed the feelings he’d been rejecting for so long. It was so powerful, and it made him feel such joy, he didn’t want to push it away anymore. He loved you. The thought was resolute. He was finally ready to accept it.
After staring lovingly at you and Jack for a few more minutes, Aaron decided to get ready for bed, and went to take a quick shower. He let the water hit is back and thought about you, and what being in love with you meant. He was never one to over analyze his feelings. He always coped with his feelings by pretending they were insignificant. This, being in love, however, wasn’t insignificant. When he saw you with his son, he had this sweet, paternal feeling. Did that mean he wanted you to be like a mom to Jack? He wanted to come home to you everyday. Did that mean he wanted you to live with him? He shook his head free from thoughts because thinking about dating and marriage and having kids was extremely heavy. Aaron needed to go to sleep and face his revelation’s tomorrow, with a clear head and as much sleep as he could possibly get.
——————
You awoke with a start from a strange dream, which you immediately forgot. What? You turned your head to see Jack sleeping soundly next to you. Oh right, sitting for Aaron. You then noticed a light in the room over had been turned on, and the sound of water running. You froze, immediately stricken with fear. Someone was in the house. See, rationally no one would immediately panic, but being close friends with an FBI agent who gets up close and personal with serial killers always leaves a lingering bit of paranoia in your mind. You fought over what to do and decided to go check where the water was running, but you surveyed the room first. Your eyes stopped at Aaron’s briefcase on the floor and let out a massive sigh of relief. Oh, Aaron got home. You still went into the room over to see that there was no one there, and checked the alarm. It has been reset to “home mode” which reassured that the person taking a shower was Aaron, as he would be the only one to know the combination to reset the alarm.
You checked the time. Practically midnight. So you gathered your things, preparing to leave when Aaron was done. It looked like it was going to be a long and dreary ride home, with the pouring rain and the soft roll of thunder. Great. The thunder reminded you of Jack sleeping in the other room, so you went to to check on him. You saw him laying on the couch, still sleeping soundly. He must be a heavy sleeper. You go back over to sit next to him. The tv was showing, ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog,’ a cute show. You watched it mindlessly and yawned. Your eyes felt tired, but then you heard footsteps into the room. Aaron walked in with damp hair, just wearing a t-shirt and some shorts. You started blushing. You rarely ever saw Aaron without a suit on, or at least some type of professional clothing. He looked good, handsome, but also tired.
“Welcome home,” you looked up at him and smiled sweetly. Just your pretty, soft face made his heart melt a bit. And, in the spirit of not choking down his feelings, Hotch gave you a warm smile back. This made you blush more, so you looked down at the floor.
“Jack and I had a lot of fun today. I can’t believe I actually fell asleep, guess all the running around tired me out,” you yawned and then continued on a little bit about what the day was like.
“Thank you,” Hotch was still smiling, which was rare for him. It made your heart happy.
“Don’t mention it, it was great. I needed a change of pace anyways. So… how was the plane ride home?” You looked up at him again, seeing the exhaustion in his eyes. He didn’t even have to answer. Both of your eyes drifted away from each other to look at Jack, still sleeping. “We should probably get him to his room, huh?” Aaron slowly and carefully picked up Jack off the couch and you followed him as he brought him to his room and set him down. Immediately Jack curled up and was comfy with his head on the pillow. Aaron pulled his truck blanket over him. This sweet paternal moment was very heartwarming, and honestly special. No one really saw Aaron when he was like this, so you felt pretty honored. Internally, Aaron was very aware of you watching this moment. It was vulnerable for him, even though he didn’t indicate that it was in any way. When walking into Jacks room, Aaron’s mind was on your phrasing, “we should get him to his room.” You hadn’t realized the way that sounded until after it came out of your mouth. He thought the phrasing should make him happy. It was you showing a bond between the two of you, and you had said it so freely like it was true.
After a few silent moments, you tapped Aaron’s hand and motioned your head to the door. “I should probably get home. Hopefully the storm dies down.”
He didn’t want you to go, especially to leave so you could drive in a dangerous storm right after midnight. He thought about asking you to stay, while you both walked out of Jack’s room. Thunder cracked in the background as you grabbed your things. You paused and looked up at Aaron again, sending him a soft and tired smile. Both of you were thinking the same thing, “aren’t they a sight for sore eyes.” He just wanted to be near you, to be in your presence for a little bit longer. You were inwardly hoping he would ask you to stay. His house was warm and comfortable and you just wanted to stay with him. Now specifically but also in general. Hotch wasn’t the only one who had to accept their romantic feelings.
“Y/N,” Aaron paused for a moment, “you can stay, if that’s what you want.” You had to hide how happy his offer made you.
“Thanks, I wasn’t really looking forward to driving home this late.”
“I can get you some more comfortable clothes. You can take my bed,” Aaron turned to go back to his room.
“Don’t be silly, you are sleeping in your bed, I can take the couch. I already slept on it for half of the night,” you weren’t one to scuffle, but you were tired of Aaron putting people before himself.
“Y/N,” he didn’t face you. “I let you do this for me, so don’t argue-,”
“Aaron. You just came home from a horrible flight after a long and stressful case. You need sleep,” you stepped closer to him and brought your face close to his and smiled at him again. “Please?”
“Alright.” It looked like Aaron was finally coming to terms with his feelings.

you were off limits.
a weight seems to leave his shoulders when he hears his name tumble from your lips. the one whose call he will always willingly answer. “c’mon! i told you i’ve got a surprise for you.” he comes to you like a moth to a flame.
a yell tears through his throat when he sees smiles on familiar faces. they give him until midnight to give himself up.
he comes to you like a lamb to the slaughter.
“don’t you dare jo-!” a figure comes into frame, the camera goes fuzzy, and bile rises in his throat with the thud of knuckles on bone. the sound of your little cry.
time stamps indicate hours of footage. that’s what drives him to race down streets and highways, to come to you with no intel. you yell at him, scream for him to stay away. if you see his face you swear you will never forgive him for coming to you. it cuts to what he fears may be the next day and you’re crying now. bloody, bruised, broken, and yet begging him not to come. you plead with him to run, to leave you and to never look back.
he’d told you far too many times to pretend you’d never met him. to run away, move across the country and forget about him, your “bestest friend” as you called him. you did it to make him laugh. eventually it made him smile.
every time, his advice was met with a giggle, and you’d simply continue whatever you were doing. he could see the unspoken fear in your features but it wasn’t until that year, the one of his final night, that he’d realized…
it’s funny. you’d considered him a friend practically from the moment you met. you’d done things friends do. and things they don’t. stitching him back together, bandaging his wounds, staving off infection. how was he just now realizing?
you can’t have friends in this line of work.
he’d made sure you were off limits. one of his conditions when he left. it was a miracle you’d gone so long caring for him without incident and he wasn’t going to risk it.
it was all for nothing. you really can’t have friends in this line of work.
the car screeches to a halt in front of your home and he practically launches himself out to sprint towards it, gun in hand, your name on his lips.
“john!” your shoes pound against the pavement, sprinting up the long driveway. the terror in your voice is enough to pull him out of his daze and he looks up from the burning rubble at his feet.
“john where are you?!” you’re not looking where you’re going and he catches you, softening your impact on his chest. you clutch at his shirt, gasping in relief, he’s here, he’s safe.
“where were you going?” he murmurs. you don’t answer as you stare into the smoking remnants of his home, simply dragging him away to your car to get him patched up. it begins again.
the doorframe splinters from his impact. he can see the chair from the video at the end of the hall. one that he’s seen you in so many times, laughing, smiling, focusing on some frustrating task. he’s ready to call for you when he feels the wave of heat. he’s thrown back out onto the steps, and he finally processes the reason his ears are now ringing when he sits up. it’s gone. your home is gone. you are gone.
“my door’s always open for you, john.”
everything around him is crumbling, turning to glowing embers. fueling the fire.
“let’s take a picture! i need something to hang in my place, the walls are bland.”
edges of paper burn quickly around your smile.
a lingering touch. a gentle hand. a quick glance. a worried look. blind. he’d been so blind.
heartbreak claws through his chest to pave the way for something worse. something darker. and your light is no longer there to guide him out. all he can do is walk the scorched path once again.

It's Midnight, Cinderella, chapter 2
(Chapter 1) - (Chapter 2) - (Chapter 3) - (Fic Tag)
------------------
How did such a good night go so wrong?
Sure, it had been a little awkward at first; Otogi had promptly ditched him to flirt with (admittedly pretty hot) girls, leaving him stranded in a sea of stuffy people in suits he didn’t have the first clue how to approach on his own. But then Seto Kaiba—and boy, was it painfully obvious it was Seto Kaiba, even with the mask—approached him first! Without prompting! Because Kaiba’s apparently into the Ouji look? Regardless of why, it had been… nice. Very nice, to just leave all the drama and troubles and bad blood at the door and talk to him (flirt with him oh god why did he do that) like a normal person. Then it had led to card games in a private room and… Honestly, why should he have been surprised that it was like foreplay to Kaiba?
Leave the masks on, they silently agreed, let’s put aside real life for a while and enjoy the moment.
He could have revealed who he was at any time, but he didn’t. His thoughts were only how good it felt to be in Kaiba’s arms, how good it felt to have Kaiba’s attention on him and solely him for once in his life, how good it would feel to have those long, elegant legs wrapped around him, and thought absolutely nothing about the potential fallout afterward.
In short, Yugi Muto got carried away, thought with his dick, and that’s why he fled home as soon as Kaiba was asleep to go dye his hair back to normal at four in the morning, quietly thanking whatever deities existed that he hadn’t styled his hair like normal and left it in its natural state. No amount of trying out a different hair color would have hid that hairstyle, that’s for sure. Jounouchi’s gonna be upset that the perfect bleaching he helped Yugi with was already being covered up, but better covered up than the alternative.
Shit. The alternative. What was he going to do now, Yugi asked himself, slumping on the couch while he waited for the 20 minutes for the dye to set to be up. What if Kaiba figures out it was him? How is he going to react? Is he going to get fired? Or worse, barred from being involved with the major players in the gaming industry? Is he going to have to focus on the indie scene, or worse, have to take over the game store?! Is it too late to follow Anzu to New York and start over there?
“Yugi? What are you doing up at this hour?”
Yugi snapped out of his anxiety spiral-induced reverie at the sound of his grandpa’s voice behind him. “Wh-what are you doing up at this hour?!”
“I asked you first, m’boy,” Grandpa asked. He gingerly poked at Yugi’s dye-saturated hair, realized what he just touched, then wiped his dye-stained finger off on the towel around Yugi’s neck. “Didn’t you just change this the other day?”
“Oh, I, uh…” Yugi wracked his brain for a quick but plausible answer and mercifully found one. “I forgot I had a piercing appointment tomorrow and want to get this done now so I won’t forget about it being there and get dye in an open wound!”
Grandpa frowned, clearly still suspicious but unable to think of a good rebuttal at this hour. “More piercings? You’re certain your workplace is all right with that?”
Yugi smirked. “I have a company-wide e-mail from Seto Kaiba himself from the last time someone complained about someone getting piercings, telling all management that he, quote, ‘doesn’t care how much metal someone has in their face if it’s not impacting their ability to work, stop wasting his and everyone else’s time with this.’ Saved it to my computer and printed it out too~”
Grandpa laughed and patted Yugi’s shoulder. “Ho, ho! That’s my boy!” He paused for a moment, then let out a bit of a sigh. “Anyway, don’t forget to get some rest when you’re done with this, all right? Staying up all night isn’t good for you.”
“I will, Grandpa,” Yugi lied. Like hell he was getting any sleep when he was in panic mode like this. Thankfully, his grandfather took him at his word, but not without one more worried glance before leaving.
Once Grandpa was out of sight, Yugi started to flop down on one side on the couch, but suddenly remembered the hair dye and caught himself before the wet hair touched anything. His life was difficult enough at the moment; he doesn’t need Mom complaining about dye stains on the furniture on top of it. Again. He settled instead for slouching forward, staring at the floor, until it occurred to him to pull out his phone from his pocket and stare at that instead.
He really should talk to someone about this, but who? Anzu would commiserate with him, but it would be early afternoon for her off in New York; she’d probably be at a rehearsal or something. There’s also Jounouchi, but hearing him talk shit about Kaiba was not what Yugi needed right now. Honda, maybe? Yugi shook his head; they’re close enough, but not close enough to wake him up over this disaster. Bakura’s right out; he’s the god-king of wandering into trouble and making it everyone else’s problem himself. There’s always Hanasaki, he supposed, but he was prepping for midterms or something and did not need this added to his load either…
Finally, he asked himself, Otogi, maybe? It’s his damn fault he was even at the damn party anyway. But no, Yugi decided, remembering the circle of women surrounding the man before he went off with Kaiba. There’s no way Otogi was alone and he wasn’t interrupting that. At best, he’d get an invitation to join, and any other day that’d be tempting, but again, this was not what Yugi needed right now.
Yugi heaved a sigh and flopped backwards, leaning heavily against the back of the couch, head reclined back as far as it would comfortably go. He thought for a split second about what to do, but then he remembered. The hair dye.
FUCK.
He leapt to his feet and spun around to see a great big splotch of purplish pink, then bolted to the bathroom to get a wet washcloth to hopefully clean it up before it set. Dye job first, he told himself, then worry about what to do next. It’s not like he didn’t have all day to figure something out, after all.
------------------
Meanwhile, back at the hotel room, Seto Kaiba was sitting on the edge of the bed, pondering his next move.
He had been sleeping more peacefully than he had in years, but when he turned over in his sleep, his arm fell onto… nothing. The other man’s lithe form was no longer next to him, nor any trace of his warmth left in his place. A quick check of the room and adjoining bathroom proved he was no longer there, period, and a brief check of his belongings showed nothing was missing, save for his mask—he presumed the man grabbed the wrong one in his haste—and, infuriatingly enough, the business card the man had given him.
At least corporate espionage seemed to be off the table as a motive for the man’s quick retreat, Seto thought; with everything that’s happened in his life, a honeypot operation targeting him wasn’t out of the question. Not that he thought anyone would be bold enough to try, with how utterly apathetic he was about… well, being with anyone that way, to be frank.
Which, honestly, was what made this hurt, and what he was blaming for the urge to fight his cynical first impulse to let this matter drop and chalk it up to a passing whim and people being shitty yet again.
He growled quietly, running a hand through his hair. What was wrong with him; why couldn’t he just let this go as an obvious mistake, a momentary lapse of judgment? The man clearly wasn’t taking this as seriously as he was, if the bastard could just run away like this. Still, something nagged at him, something he couldn’t quite put a finger on, but he was very clearly missing something in all of this and it was absolutely infuriating.
He picked up his pants from the floor, fished out his phone, and opened a notes app. He needed a guest list, he typed into it, and started typing out a description of what the man looked like and what he could remember the man saying to him. Also, a description of the man his target was the plus one for, not that he got a terribly long or clear look at him. Still, combined with the guest list, what he did notice could be illuminating. If he could find the “date” that ditched the target, maybe he could get the target’s damned name.
For better or worse, Seto Kaiba was a man who, when his personal curiosity took over, could not be stopped until it was satisfied, and this was going to be no exception to that.

CW: mentions of drinking, being drunk, huge amount of angst, kind of a happy ending?
A/N: ‘Maniac’ and ‘Memories’ by conan gray helped me write this
╚═*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*═╝
the multiple knocks at your door makes you jolt awake from your deep slumber.
and which also makes you groan from your poor beauty sleep being interrupted.
wondering who the hell would be here at midnight.
but that familiar voice you heard on the other side of the door.
it made your facial expression soften from the anger it was first in.
this isn’t the first time momo has shown up at your shared house in the middle of the night. well, you don’t even know if you should call it home anymore.
ever since your breakup, momo has been staying with nayeon in their shared dorm room before she moved in with you.
yours and momo’s relationship began to go up and down, not to mention she had a thing for drinking, besides jihyo…
but when she’s drunk, momo tends to say things that absolutely hurt you in profound ways.
you told momo if she was going to walk out of that door, you didn’t want her there to contact you ever again.
but you love her.
you didn’t want her to just stand outside begging for you to open the door.
unfortunately you’ve fell into this cycle with momo now.
letting her in, having her cling onto you like a koala when she’s fallen into your arms, giggling and mumbling nonsense.
then in the morning she’s hacking up her stomach with a nasty hangover.
then she leaves.
or she’ll call you on the phone, drunk, saying she’s wanting you back.
but when she’s sober she suddenly hates you.
part of you wants to leave momo outside and call either jeongyeon or jihyo to drive to your house to come get her.
which leads to conversations when you see the girls for the first time in a while, rumors saying how momo has said how crazy you are, saying she’s made a mistake with dating you, how she drives you crazy.
you could say the same things about her, but you don’t.
you haven’t even returned momo’s sweater that you’ve been wearing for the past two weeks.
but it wouldn’t matter, she’s too drunk to notice.
you tug at the sleeves of momo’s contemplating what to do.
you only sigh and just decide calling up jihyo to come and get her, but suddenly nayeon’s caller ID shows on your phone.
You answer, “hello?”
“hey y/n, i’m on my way to get momo from your place. no one knows where she went but I have a feeling she’s at your place,” the girl explains, “right?”
You stutter, “y-yeah. um, she’s actually at my doorstep right now. i’ll let her in until you show up. bye, nayeon.”
you hang up and quickly make your way to open the door.
“y/n!” momo giggles before landing in your arms, her arms around your neck.
you only sigh leading momo over to the couch where she instantly lays with a goofy smile on her face.
you sit at the end of the couch away from momo as you wait for nayeon to show up.
“i’ve missed you, so much,” momo slurs, “you’re so pretty. just like always.”
you stay quiet.
“…you still wear my sweater,” she giggles as she begins to sit up against the couch cushions, “it’s okay. keep it. looks better on you.”
you look at momo only a few minutes later, now seeing tears running down her face. your eyes go wide.
“i’m sorry, baby. for those things i said. i shouldn’t have. do you forgive me? please? i miss you so much. i love you.” momo sobs out.
your quick instinct didn’t stop you from going over to momo, using your thumbs to wipe her tears on her face.
she instantly leans into your touch, her cheek squished slightly against your palms. the sight nearly makes you cry yourself from the overflowing love in your heart for momo.
it makes you forget all the bad things that’s happened.
but, the abrupt knock on the door makes you jump a little, but you get up instantly.
nayeon drags momo, cursing out a few of her favorite curse words with gritted teeth, as well as giving you multiple apologies, while momo’s crying dies down, but mumbles your name with a quivering lip.
you sigh before putting your head up against the door, tears running down your face.
momo’s head was pounding after she rushed to the bathroom, along with going to the kitchen to get a cold bottled water.
along with a very angry nayeon.
“what’s up with y-”
“how long will you keep doing this, momo?” nayeon asks with her hands on her hips.
“huh? doing what?”
“you know what I mean!” the eldest nearly cut her off.
nayeon went on an entire rant about her erratic behavior. getting drunk nearly everyday, dangerously walking to your house, also with how she’s been treating you.
the guilt began to set into her stomach once momo was snapped back into reality.
her immaturity and pettiness is only making things worse.
how could she be so stupid?
she’s definitely going to have to sort all of this out, but not before a huge talk from jihyo. even jeongyeon.
despite how hungover she is, momo went over to your house again. even though she knows she shouldn’t be.
using the spare key you gave her, she let herself inside quietly.
peeking into the living room, you weren’t there, you must be in your bedroom.
but she couldn’t help but notice the few beer bottles on the living room table, some trash on the floor, as well as old things of momo’s as well.
she sighs before going into your kitchen, grabbing a trash bag.
from top to bottom she had begun cleaning your living room, and even your kitchen with a few dishes left out, as well as cooking up some breakfast for you.
but hearing footsteps coming downstairs, she knew she must’ve woken you up.
but also the smell of the bacon.
you came visible to momo now, which made her freeze after turning the stove off from cooking.
you both make eye contact, not knowing what to say.
“what’re you doing here?” you softly ask.
momo opened her mouth, but nothing came out. she was too distracted by you. besides the pounding in her head..
she’s realized how much she’s truly missed you. and how much she needs to apologize.
if you’ll even take the apologies, that is.
“momo?”
“i’m sorry. i’m so sorry, everything I’ve said and done I shouldn’t have. you didn’t deserve it,” momo says with her eyes stinging with her tears.
“i’ve been immature, petty, and awful to you. i guess i didn’t want to face how wrong I was and how I was grieving in this breakup, but it was wrong of me to treat you badly, everyone horribly. god, I’m so sorry, y/n. i’m sorry.”
you stood there in shock with momo.
she’s actually apologizing, and she’s sober for once.
you didn’t know what to say.
part of you knows that you should one hundred percent kick momo out, telling her to leave you alone and never speak to you again.
but another part just wants to hug her so tightly.
you’ve missed her.
and the smell on her sweater you’re wearing has now faded.
now matter how wrong she was, could you both patch things up, maybe?
it’s evident that you both miss and love each other.
“i know it’s wrong of me to ask of this, but if you let me come back, i promise to you, i’ll change. i’ll do better, i’ll even stop drinking. just please, i love you, i need you. but i understand if you don’t feel the same anymore.” momo pleads.
you didn’t really care what your mind was saying anymore, you were only listening to your heart.
you didn’t hesitate to let your feet carry you over to momo, where you wrap your arms around her.
momo was in shock, but didn’t stop herself from hugging you back.
“i’ve missed you too, momo. if you screw something up again-”
“i won’t!” she cuts you off, “i won’t. i will do better. i don’t want to lose you again.”
you chuckle, “good, and i love you, too.”

to being ghosts.
Chapter 3 - Treason Unordinary
Chapter Warnings: angst with a tiny sliver of fluff, mentions of death (fem!r) and executions, world-building. 5.1k+ words.
Your initial reaction upon entering Victor Vale’s safehouse outside of San Francisco was like an interruption. He, Sydney, Mitch, and Dol had grown comfortable in a domestic pattern on the run but made a sense of home wherever they went because of their unique bond. Then, when they decided to stay in one place and wait for you, there was an opportunity to settle into a routine, to be content and alone with one another, forgetting the world outside and all the changes everyone else went through.
When you walked in, it upset the domesticity, if only for a moment. As Victor learned to trust you, he kept Sydney at arm’s length, unwilling to let you get too close.
Now, you have fallen into the trap of alluring domesticity, too. Victor trusts you, Sydney feels safe beside you, and Mitch has been more help than you ever dreamed of having. The feeling of belonging, the sense that you finally found a place where you fit, living alongside other ghosts, threatens to blind you to your mission.
“What are you doing?” Victor asks.
“Mitch looked around online to see if I’d been reported missing or anything,” you answer softly.
“And?”
“There’s nothing. I’d bet that Daniels is lying to Smoak, pretending that he left me somewhere to protect me from your charms.”
Victor steps into your room, his brows raised as he repeats, “My charms?”
Sighing, you admit, “When Smoak told us about you for the first time, he said that Eli could charm women pretty easily, and he and Daniels warned me not to let you do the same to me. Smoak didn’t even know for sure what your powers were but told me not to let you get to me.”
“Yet here you are.”
“Was that a joke?” you ask excitedly. “Did Victor Vale just make a joke about using his charms to win me over?”
“No. Did Smoak say anything else? Something that could help us take the NWA and the charter down, for good?”
“Not really. He gave us assignments, and even then, we got the bare minimum. Finding you was a stroke of luck.”
“My name’s pronounced Mitch,” Mitch calls from across the hall. “And you’re welcome!”
“What do we do now?” Victor asks.
“Truthfully, I have no idea, Victor. I’ve been running on adrenaline, hope, and a half-cocked plan to get all of the EOs in one place.”
Victor looks over his shoulder before closing your door and walking to the foot of your bed.
“You’ve shared a lot,” he begins.
“It’s the least I can do, given everything you’re doing to help me and other EOs.”
Victor sighs, lowering to sit on your bed. “Do you still want to hear about midnight?”
Sitting up to lean toward Victor, you nod.
“Then I guess we should start at Lockland, where I met Eli Cardale…”
✯✯✯✯✯
Sitting on one end of the couch, with Sydney beside you and Victor on the other side of her, you feel like part of a family. It’s been years since you felt anything like this, and you wish this moment would last forever.
“How many doctors are in the NWA?” Victor asks. “I can’t imagine spending all that time and money on med school just to be forced into a genocidal army.”
“I don’t know,” you answer. “But don’t worry, you wouldn’t have been they’re type anyway.”
“As if I would have let them find me.”
“Why are we staying hidden?” Sydney interjects. “I understood at first, while you figured out what to do, but it’s been a while now, and we’re still completely alone. No more EOs, no plan to save the world, just… waiting.”
“Unfortunately, it’s part of getting the world back, Syd,” you explain. “And I’m not just saying this because I don’t have a plan, which I don’t. But we should not go outside until we are prepared to deal with anything and everything that the NWA could throw at us. Daniels will be looking for Victor, and maybe for me, I don’t know. When or if he finds him, Smoak will call in backup, and with Victor gone, it’ll be open season for EOs.”
“You make it sound like Vic is keeping EOs safe,” Sydney murmurs.
“In a way, he is.”
“How so?” Victor asks, closing the book in his lap. “Most people don’t even know I exist.”
“Maybe not, but they know someone out there defeated EON, and that there is an EO important enough to keep most of the heat away from the ones that hide their powers or kept living like nothing changed.”
“How do they do that; live like nothing changed?”
“There’s no way to spot an EO just by looking at them,” Victor answers.
“Right,” you agree. “And people have accidents, brain tumors, loads of things that result in death, and then they get brought back. My first year as a cop, I died for nearly a minute before they brought me back, but nothing happened, and I kept doing my job.”
“You died?” Victor and Sydney ask together.
“Barely,” you reply playfully. “But my point is that finding EOs is harder than it seems. So as long as there’s someone like Victor, a known EO, for the NWA to focus on, the unknown EOs have some hope, a sense of safety they can rely on.”
“What about the ones your NWA friends are killing?” Sydney inquires.
“I hate that it’s happening, but there’s nothing I can do right now, Syd. When our time is right, we’re going to save as many as we can, but for now we need to focus on staying alive to create a plan to do that.”
“Seems like a lot of work.”
“Well, not everyone has atom bombs,” Victor mutters.
“Was that another joke?” you ask, turning toward him.
“No.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Vic, Dol needs a walk,” Sydney says, looking at the book you found between two rafters in the attic. “He’s asking for a change, so he wants you to take him.”
“You can raise the dead, not talk to animals,” Victor argues, reading the last unaltered page of his parents’ second book.
“You don’t know everything about me. I know my dog, and he wants you to take him outside.”
“I’ll go,” you offer, chuckling at their antics.
You open the door for Dol, and follow him outside into the California forest. The trees are thick and green, and the new lack of pollution and population did wonders for the wildlife and scenery. Dol barks as he circles a tree, and you smile as you watch him run around, using up the energy he stored sitting beside Sydney.
When Dol is finished, he runs back in the open front door. Enjoying the fresh air and feeling completely hidden, you look up toward the light coming through the trees. The New World Charter headquarters feels like one of the floating cities from an old sci-fi movie: sterile with overbearing leaders; here, you can take a deep breath and be in nature again.
“What’s it like where you’re from?” Victor asks, joining your side.
“It was beautiful. Being outside, patrolling, was one of my favorite parts of being a cop, too. There’s nothing like this.”
“And the rest of the world?”
“The beauty is still there, it’s just nothing like it was before. Vic… I’m scared that even if we succeed, if the EOs take out Smoak and the New World Charter is dissolved, that nothing will really change. People will still be scared of what’s different, and the peace will be short-lived before another dictator slides into the opening left by Smoak. We can’t fight this fight forever.”
“You need a break. Thinking about it, the world and the future, every minute of every day is going to drive you crazy.”
“Which is something you know well, right?”
“Very funny.”
Victor looks up, following your line of sight through the green treetops. He’s enjoying the domesticity nearly as much as you are, but he knows the safety won’t last forever.
“Care for a break from saving the world?”
Smiling as you look down, turning your attention to the NWA’s most wanted ExtraOrdinary, you ask, “What do you have in mind?”
“Syd has been asking to see San Francisco.”
“Shame she didn’t get to experience the crowds and the smell of the wharf when it was actually in use,” you muse.
“A real shame,” Victor agrees sarcastically. “Get your jacket, and I’ll get Syd. Getting some air may even do you some good; maybe you’ll have a plan by the time we get back.”
“You’re the nerd here,” you remind him as you follow him inside. “You start brainstorming and I’ll procrastinate until the night before the due date.”
“I’m not sure that’s wise considering how many lives hang in the balance. An entire race is completely reliant on your ability to find a weakness in the NWA.”
“Haven’t failed a project yet, of ye of little faith.”
“Sydney, get your jacket. We’re going to see San Francisco... what it looks like when it’s completely deserted.”
“I don’t get an invitation?” Mitch asks.
“Someone has to watch Dol,” Victor replies.
“Do you want to go?” you ask.
“Not a bit. Have fun. Bring me a t-shirt or something.”
“Yeah, I’ll look for one that says, ‘I survived the San Francisco evacuation’ or something.”
“Perfect.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Where’s the bridge? No, wait, the wharf! Ooh, or should we go to the square first?” Sydney rambles as you walk through the woods.
“The square?” Victor asks, glancing at you.
“Ghirardelli Square. You’re going to hate it, so if we find any leftover product, Sydney and I should handle it,” you answer with a wink toward Sydney.
“I’m an EO, not an alien, I know what Ghirardelli is.”
“Guys, focus!” Sydney calls. “Where should we go first?”
“Where are we from the bridge? If we get to the bridge and enter San Francisco that way, we can hit everything within a few hours of walking,” you reply. “But, Syd… it’s not the San Francisco you saw on tv or anything. It’s a ghost town.”
“Good thing we’re ghosts, then,” Victor adds.
“You’re telling me there’s no George of the Jungle here now?” Sydney pouts.
“Never should have told her about that movie,” Victor says to himself.
“Syd, just- just be alert, okay? We’re here to have fun, take a break, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t other people here. This is The Stand or The Last of Us, not-“
“Planet of the Apes?” Victor offers.
“Not at all the direction I was going, but sure. My point is that there may be people here, people who are hiding for one reason or another, or just got left behind and couldn’t get anywhere alone.”
“I understand,” Sydney responds, several steps ahead of you.
“Hey,” Victor murmurs, tapping your arm. He pulls his hand away at the sting of your skin on his. “Relax. We’re going to be fine. Then, when we get back to the house, we come up with a plan to take the world back.”
“And you said this wasn’t a movie,” you say, smiling before jogging toward Sydney.
✯✯✯✯✯
“It’s huge!” Sydney exclaims when San Francisco comes into view.
The Golden Gate Bridge is beginning to become visible in the dissipating fog, and the dark metropolis laid out below it seems larger than life. Most people now live in NWC zones, which are big and overbearing in their own way but nothing like the wonders that San Francisco and the likes used to be. NWC zones are locked down, have strict curfews, and are packed with more people than used to be legal.
“Thank you, Vic,” you say as you continue walking toward the bridge. “I needed this, and Sydney did too.”
 “We all did.”
“What are the chances we can actually find Mitch a souvenir?”
“In a city like this? I’d say pretty good; even picked over, there’s got to be a keychain or something around here.”
“So, this is what a first date with you was like?” you tease. “Walking around and talking about the mathematical likelihood of finding something worth doing?”
“I, uh, I don’t know.”
“Wait, Vic,” you say, grabbing the sleeve of his trench coat to stop him. “You didn’t go on dates? Are you kidding me?”
“Didn’t meet the right person, I suppose. At least not until-“
“Angie, right. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. Syd is halfway to Canada, though.”
You look up quickly, sighing as you see Sydney looking around a few paces ahead of you.
“Since the mathematical likelihood of me surviving this battle of ghosts and goblins,” you begin.
“Ghosts and what?” Victor repeats incredulously.
“Care to make this my last first date? I mean, my dating record isn’t stellar, but if I have to go out with one good date, I think this could be it.”
“Did you inhale a toxic fungus in the woods or something?”
“I already told Sydney this isn’t The Last of Us. Seriously, Vic, you said this little trip is supposed to be a break, a distraction from what we’re about to do, what we’re up against. So, what do you say?”
“You want to go on a date with me, an EO, and Sydney, an EO I found on the side of the road, in an abandoned city? I thought you said your dating record wasn’t stellar, but if the bar is this low it’s completely dismal.”
“Could’ve just said no, Vic,” you answer, chuckling as you move toward Sydney.
“I- life would have been a lot different if we had met in the old world,” Victor replies. “If this is what you want to remember if this doesn’t go our way, who am I to stop you from actually enjoying part of being a ghost?”
“Are you asking me out?”
“Will you stop talking if I do?”
You nod, and Victor points his chin toward Sydney and the growing distance between you and her. Rushing up the hill, you catch up with her and walk beside her, smiling over your shoulder at Victor as you walk across the Golden Gate Bridge into the heart of San Francisco.
“Where to after we cross it?” Sydney asks.
“We’ll turn left onto Beach Street, which will take us straight to Ghirardelli and then Fisherman’s Wharf,” you answer. Victor raises his eyebrows, and you add, “I looked at a map of San Francisco for fourteen hours straight while I was trying to find you. If it’s on a map, I can probably get you there.”
Victor shakes his head, and you fall into a comfortable silence as you walk. Sydney stops to look at Alcatraz, and you return to Victor’s side, smiling as you silently thank him for everything.
✯✯✯✯✯
As you walk out of Fisherman’s Wharf, with an ‘I <3 San Francisco’ keychain tucked in your pocket for Mitch, you ask Sydney what her favorite part was. Victor tries to listen to her answer but feels the unmistakable sensation of being watched. He slows, looking around but coming up empty. The city seems dead, and he hasn’t even seen an animal in the few hours you have spent in San Francisco. When you slow, though, Victor rushes toward you.
You feel it, too, but you recognize the eyes on you. They’re the same eyes you felt after faking EO deaths and the ones you missed after sending Rock away.
“Vic,” you whisper when he comes into view.
“I know. I can’t see anyone though,” Victor answers.
“What’s going on?” Sydney interjects, whispering to match your volume.
“Get her out of here, Vic,” you demand, moving your hand to the gun on your waistband.
“We’re not leaving you!” Sydney replies.
“Syd, this is my part of the fight. It doesn’t have to be yours. Vic.”
Victor nods, grabbing Sydney’s shoulders and steering her away from you. They disappear around a corner, out of sight, and you take a deep breath as you accept that you may never see them again. Tapping the keychain in your pocket, you hope Mitch can forgive you for not giving his souvenir to him.
“I got Vic and Syd back,” you remind yourself softly.
Turning slowly, you stop abruptly when someone steps out of the shadows. He says your name, and you immediately come to terms with dying in San Francisco. Sydney and Victor are safe and can create a plan to save the world, so you succeeded in helping one person.
“Daniels,” you reply. “I’ve been looking for you.”
“Not like I’ve been looking for you and the monsters you are so comfortable around,” he says darkly.
“What do you want, Daniels? You will never find Victor Vale, and he will take every single one of you out to protect himself and the other EOs.”
“I’d like to see him try. But, I’m not here for him right now. I’m sure you sent him away, running like a hamster on a wheel, stalled in one place.”
“Can I ask you a question?”
 “No.”
“Why’d you leave the Army to join a team of dictators, Brian?”
Daniels chuckles, pulling his gun from its holster before leveling it on you. “You are guilty of treason, punishable by execution at the order of the New World Agency.”
“If you were going to kill me, you would have done it already. What are you waiting for, Brian Daniels, retired U.S. Army Ranger-“
“Stop!” Daniels screams.
Smiling, you know you’re under his skin, getting to him by showing him that you know more about him than he knows about you. While he’s distracted by your comments, you pull your gun, holding it between your legs and the crate before you.
“You are under arrest,” Daniels yells.
“I’d like a lawyer,” you reply sarcastically.
Daniels steps toward you, and you lower as you hear footsteps in an alley. Victor is still close, and he needs help getting out unnoticed.
“Go!” you yell as you begin shooting.
Giving cover fire, you keep Daniels distracted as Victor and Sydney disappear into the shadows, where they feel most comfortable. Daniels ducks out of sight, and when the last shot’s echo dies away, he begins laughing.
“You’re a stupid, stupid girl!” he yells. “And you can’t take us!”
You don’t ask, but you wonder who ‘us’ is. Before you can think much about it, several NWA helicopters begin circling. When ropes drop from the helicopters and soldiers descend into San Francisco, you move backward toward an alley opening. If you can keep the army before you, you have an escape route and a chance of surviving. Your chances will never be good again, but the idea that you can run helps keep your hopes up, if only for a moment. Remembering that Victor and Sydney have a head start and plan to leave rips your hope away again. You’re alone, one woman with a half-empty ammo magazine against an army of trained killers.
Pushing your back against a wall, unwilling to be taken out from the back, you smile. You saved one, and that was always the goal. Knowing that Sydney is the one you saved and you were lucky enough to spend time with her, get to know her, and care for her makes what happens next easier.
A soldier rushes toward you, and you fire a single shot, watching as he crumples to the ground. His body armor should have protected him; yes, he would’ve fallen from the velocity of the bullet, but he shouldn’t have folded in pain like that. Raising slowly, you hear a few pained screams and rush to look out over Daniels’ reinforcements.
Every single soldier is on the ground. Most are unconscious, but others are screaming or crying, clearly in pain. You know what causes pain like this, but you also know that he could have done it from a distance if he saw them lower from the helicopter.
✯✯✯✯✯
“We can’t leave her, Vic!” Sydney argues as he pushes her into an alley.
“We’re not, Syd, I promise. But we need to regroup, I need a plan. If we run out there blind, we’ll all get killed.”
“Just hurt him, Vic! He’s going to kill her if you don’t!”
Your voice is barely audible, but Victor catches your taunt, “If you were going to kill me, you would have done it already. What are you waiting for?”
“He wouldn’t have come alone. He’s misogynistic, not blind. Daniels knows what she’s capable of, just as well as we do.”
“He’s hiding something?” Sydney clarifies.
“A big something, presumably.”
Victor begins to speak, but his words are drowned out by helicopters overhead.
“There’s his backup,” he hums to himself.
Sydney pulls Victor’s sleeve, pointing to the end of the alley. A soldier is approaching, and as Victor turns the pain dial, a bullet makes contact with his chest plate. Victor hides his smile, glad you’re not going down without a fight.
Rushing to the end of the alley, Victor extends his pain radius, turning the dial as high as it goes with no warning. Men scream, though most of them lose consciousness before the pain registers.
“Where is she?” Sydney whispers.
Victor weighs his options quickly before pushing the dial again and yelling your name.
✯✯✯✯✯
When Victor yells your name, you don’t hesitate to turn away from the NWA troops and rush to him and Sydney. You run into him, wrapping your arms around him as you hug him tightly.
“Yeah, yeah, glad you’re okay, too, but we need to go,” he replies, awkwardly patting your back.
You nod as you pull back, taking Sydney’s hand and running behind Victor. As you near the bridge, you call Victor’s name.
“We’re going to be visible the entire way across. Those helos are coming back,” you remind him.
“Then tell me what to do,” he replies. “Take a chance and go the fastest route, or stay here longer to find another way?”
“Can you do what you did back there to the helo pilots?”
“Of course, I can.”
“Then let’s go.”
You pull Sydney with you, apologizing as you run across the Golden Gate Bridge. The fog has rolled back in, and Alcatraz looks far more menacing than it did a few hours ago when you came into the city.
“Are you okay?” Sydney asks between short breaths.
“I’m fine,” you promise. “And I’m sorry I brought you into that.”
“That’s on me,” Victor adds, running ahead of you. “But now we have an idea of what we’re up against!”
“Vic died after using his powers for a while,” Sydney tells you. “I was worried it would happen again.”
“That hasn’t happened in months!”
“But it could? Vic, you can’t use your powers if it puts your life at stake!” you argue.
“It’s already at stake! I’ll die if I don’t, but I might die if I do. Besides, I came back every time.”
“That’s not comforting!”
When you reach the tree line, entering the forest, you slow, still moving but taking the chance to catch your breath.
“You didn’t tell me that, Victor,” you say. “I never would have asked for your help.”
“I’m not incapable of fighting for myself and Sydney and Mitch,” he replies, his voice dark and even, not unlike the night you met. “And clearly I can save you at a moment’s notice.”
“That is not the problem!”
“Then what is?”
“I can’t let you die fighting my fight!”
Your chest is heaving, partly from the exertion of running miles without a break and partly from your anger at Victor. He should have told you so that you could find a way to work around it. If he dies trying to save you, then you lose an EO regardless. Worse, you lose an EO that you care about.
“It’s my fight, too.”
“Move, Vic.”
“We’re not done.”
“We’re not moving and there are people hunting us! Move!”
Victor clenches his jaw before breaking into another run. Sydney runs behind him, and you bring up the rear of your team of misfits. Part of you wants to get them to safety and leave, but you know you can’t do this without Victor Vale, not the fight against the New World or living life after. You need Victor far more than he needs you.
✯✯✯✯✯
“Mitch,” Victor says as he walks in. “Get your stuff. We’re leaving.”
“What happened to you three?” Mitch asks, his eyes wide as he looks you over.
“Got into a fight for this,” you reply, passing him the keychain.
“I- thank you?”
“Daniels found me. He brought an army to bring me in for treason, but Victor saved me.”
“You saved me first,” Victor grumbles, clearly mad at you.
Mitch raises his brows, silently asking what you did. You shake your head before entering the room you’ve grown comfortable in. All your stuff fits in a backpack you found in a nearby storage shed. Once you’re packed, you sit at the foot of the bed and consider running.
Victor opens your door, steps inside, and closes it again.
“Do you knock?” you ask softly.
“I want you to tell me what that was back there. If you don’t trust me, there’s no reason for you to stay and keep putting Sydney and Mitch in danger.”
“Trust? You want to talk about trust, Victor? When you told me how your powers work, you might have mentioned ‘oh, and sometimes I die for a few minutes after using them.’ Was I just supposed to find out when you collapsed in the middle of saving someone?”
“I didn’t tell you because it’s getting better. Sydney found a fix.”
“A temporary fix from the sound of things.”
“Why does it matter? If it is fixed long enough to survive this war, it doesn’t matter. Either I die fighting or I survive and we find a better option after. Why is that so hard for you to understand?”
“I understand perfectly, Victor.”
“This is a weird way to thank me for saving your life.”
“I am thankful for that. But if saving my life is going to cost you yours…” You stand from the bed and step toward Victor, only a few inches between your chests. “Then let me die.”
Victor’s eyes remain on yours, pale, intense, and unblinking. “The question was about you.”
“What?” you ask, blinking at the sudden change in topic.
“That night that you asked if I’d use my powers on a good person for a better reason. You were asking if I’d let you die, or kill you, to win this fight against the New World.”
Licking your lips, you avoid replying.
“I apologize for not telling you. But if you want complete transparency from me, I’m going to need the same in return.”
“Vic?” Sydney calls from the hallway. “We’re ready.”
“And we’re ghosts again,” you hum, turning to pick up your backpack. “Thanks for the date, Victor. Sorry I ruined it.”
“Still the best date I’ve been on in a while,” he murmurs.
“And you said my dating record is dismal.”
Victor shakes his head as he opens the door for you. He’s grown attached to the domesticity, though he’d refuse to admit it. As he closes the door, separating himself from one of the few things that brought him comfort, Victor sighs.
You can tell that this fight will weigh on him, and worrying about you, Mitch, and Sydney will wear him down before the fight even begins. Laying a hand between his shoulder blades, you ask him to hang back with you.
“I need you to know that I appreciate you for saving me, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to,” you explain quietly, walking behind Sydney, Dol, and Mitch.
“You expect me to just stand by and watch you die? That’s not going to happen,” he argues.
“Vic, I’m a soldier. I made my peace with dying a long time ago.”
“Well, I didn’t,” Victor snaps. “I’m not going to let another innocent person die for this EO debate. I have lost friends and enemies alike, and I refuse to lose another.”
“Friend or enemy?”
Victor glances over his shoulder at you. “Equal.”
“Sounds like a friend to me.”
Victor sighs, internally glad that your personality is returning. He’s sure that you were worried, most likely about Sydney.
Boise. The sudden thought is unwelcome, and clearly not yours.
“Vic, if I told you we needed to go to Boise, what would you say?” you ask.
“I’d ask how you came up with Boise, Idaho.”
“What if I told you a ghost told me?”
Victor puts an arm out to stop you. “Is there a voice in your head? One that tells you where to go?”
“You have it too?”
Victor looks between your eyes and the crease between your brows.
“I thought it was just my intuition or something,” you murmur.
“My turn to ask a hypothetical,” Victor says. “If you noticed a pattern, that the voice was leading you into dangerous situations that somehow turned out alright… would you think they were related?”
“Are you asking me if I think the ghost is leading us where we need to be to win this fight? Putting us in trouble to get out of more trouble?”
“If I was?”
“Vic, I’m with you in this. Drop the hypotheticals and say what you want to say.”
“Whatever this voice is – a ghost, a shared intuition, common mission, however you want to define it – it is helping us. I don’t think our question should be about what it is though.”
“You want to know why.”
“You don’t?”
“That voice has led me straight to you, away from a life that I hated, so I- I guess I trust it. For now, at least. But, yeah, I’d like to know why. You’re forgetting a big one, though.”
“Being?”
“Vic, who is it?”
Sydney yells your name, and you tap Victor’s shoulder before passing him to talk to Sydney. Mitch trades spots with you, moving to Victor’s side.
“I told you that she was trustworthy,” Mitch says.
“You did. One of these days I’ll start trusting you, too,” Victor answers.
“Vic, this isn’t going to be easy. The pain and sacrifice we’ve experienced is only a fraction of what lies ahead of us.”
“I can accept that. I can accept a lot of things, but I refuse to let anything happen to the four of you.”
“And she wants you to?”
“I don’t know what she wants. Besides the old world and freedom for EOs.”
“I’ve got an idea of what she wants,” Mitch teases.
“That you won’t share, right?”
“Right.”
As Sydney talks, you realize that the life you lost in the transition to the New World made way for this one. While it isn’t perfect, you like where you are. Being by Victor’s side, with Sydney, Dol, and Mitch, it’s good, even if it isn’t safe. When the fight is over, though, what happens then?

The light switch clicks underneath your fingers as you turn off the lights. Your heels echo through the large and empty floor of your company, step after step, as you face the hallways and walk through them. The automatic lights illuminate your way throughout.
Once again, the last one to leave work is you. Work has been tougher than ever. Business is going great but that is nothing but a result of the extra hours everyone has been trying to pull. Especially you.
You’re tired of the late meetings and tired of more and more piles of printed documents people have started to send you through actual mail. They have been doing it since you, and your assistant, haven’t gotten through all of the last emails yet.
The sun completely set over Gotham a few hours ago, and only now did you feel the need to leave your chair.
You’ll have to come back in the morning, either way, might as well get some more sleep in you while you can.
But, good things seem to be dropping by your feet in days like these as you were supposed to be at an event right now. Yet, since work has been so hectic, your parents took the invite from your list of responsibilities and went in your name.
You walk into the elevator and face the hallway, watching the darkness consume it as the lights don’t find movement after you’ve passed them. The doors close and you let out a sigh of relief. Your body feels tired but your brain still feels like going a mile a second.
You walk out of the metal box and you see no one. No one is at work. No one at the front desk or even security. The night shift security must be coming in an hour but no one will be at the desk until the next morning.
Your heels sound through the empty room once more and you get to the glass front door of the company.
You make sure to recheck your bag to see if you have everything with you.
The doors have been made with extra care when your dad was still the boss. The doors only unlock from the inside after closing hours if you have your company card. So, if you are to forget something - like your car keys - you better get cozy with the front steps.
You open the door after the beeping - of the machine accepting your card - fills your ears. You walk out, pulling the door closed with you and you pull your phone out of your bag. You check the time, and it’s almost midnight.
Your parents must be on their way home by now.
You tap the contact of your driver and the many rings that follow can only mean one thing, he is not available. You switch over to your mother’s contact and stay by the glass doors, eyeing the empty streets.
“Hi, sweetheart.” Her voice gets to your ear.
“Hello. Had fun tonight?” You ask first, ignoring how her good mood must have been from the champagne she always has trouble staying away from.
“A lot of fun!” She says happily, “But why are you calling at this time? You should be asleep already.”
“Because I assume you must be in my driver’s car.” You tell her, restraining your annoyed tone after such a long day.
“Oh yes! I’m in his car right now!” She squeaks in excitement, “Would you like to say ‘hi’ to him, dear?”
“No, mother, it’s alright.” You say, “Could you just tell him to come to pick me up as soon as he drops you off?”
She repeats your words in a tone of authority to the man with her loud voice. One she tends to use with any of the people that work for the family. She, thankfully, did move the phone away when she spoke, as you believe she would’ve burst your eardrum if she didn’t.
“He said he will be there in 20 minutes.” She tells you.
“Alright.” You sigh. “Where is your driver?” Maybe you could try and catch a drive from him.
“Oh, he’s taking your dad to another casino. The men are continuing their night as a boy’s night. That is why I decided to leave.” She explains.
“Great…” You whisper to yourself.
“I will be finishing the call now, sweetheart, I’m feeling quite tired.”
The two of you share your 'goodnights' and you end the call before she does it. You look up and down the street you stand in.
You’re quite grateful not even the media would stay until this time at the door of the company. Or else they would have to see you do the squat of shame by the steps.
Before you even get to do it, you feel a drop of rain falling right on your forehead. Aka, the universe continuing to have a laugh in your face.
The entrance to the company does not have any sort of cover over the steps when it comes to protecting from the rain. It used to when you were little but your mom was quite against it because it ruined the building's aesthetic for her.
You make your way down the steps as the raindrops begin to fall faster now and you notice the neon lights of a diner not too far from the company, just hidden right at the corner. You don’t even think twice before making your way towards it.
The bell dings over your head as you pull the door open and a quite young worker looks up from the cash register at you.
“You’re still open, right?” You check with her.
“Uh- Y-Yes, yes, miss. All twenty-four hours.” She nods quickly.
You offer her a small grin and close the door behind you. The warmth of the place as well as its smell welcomes you in nicely and you notice how the rain has begun to pour. You are right on time.
You make your way towards a table in the corner of the diner, just by the windowed wall, and you put your bag over the extra seat beside you. You take your coat off your back and take your seat.
You are quick to send a text to your driver about your whereabouts, just in case the rain doesn’t stop for the next 20 minutes.
The young worker - who must not be older than 16 - makes her way toward your table and offers you the menu with a smile. You thank her and don’t see a reason for not choosing something to have as a warm midnight drink.
While thinking about what to drink, your eyes unconsciously move over to the dark outside. Due to the immense lighting of the diner, it becomes quite hard to look at anything, really. You can’t see much, and your eyes meet your own reflection many times.
The darkness makes you wonder.
You have forced yourself to not think of him for the past weeks. You have a reason for it. Other than the overbearing hours you’ve been pulling at work. It is your pride more than anything else that forces you to do it.
You slept with Bruce Wayne twice in one night and you know that if you truly hated him, no alcohol would’ve made you do what you did.
So, to fight your own feelings of confusion - which are terrifying to acknowledge - you decide to pull him away from your thoughts. Every time you think of him, you find something else to think about. Over and over again. It gets harder by the day as you find yourself having nothing else to think about. But, thankfully, an absolute wave of workload came right on time.
You don’t hate him. You’ve decided that on the day after it happened, and you’re not ashamed to admit it. You never want to die and still have resentment over anyone. Especially over something that has happened when you were a mere teenager.
Your mother would’ve liked it if you did and you know that. He did ruin things as they were at that time, whether he knows it or not, and you will have to continue to dislike him until your mother’s hate for him is still alive. Even when it all becomes one big fat lie at some point in your life, you will still have to do it. For the company’s sake.
You take a deep breath in and look away from the window. Your eyes scan through the menu once more and you see some movement by the counter. Another waitress has appeared from the back, and she’s speaking to the younger girl in whispers, probably not to disturb the soothing hum of the diner.
Gosh, what would your mother think if she knew where you were?
Your eyes move back to the outside and you look at where the darkest corner sits. No light from the diner hits it and you cannot see anything over there. A certain thought makes your chest bubble with some sort of amusement.
You lean your cheek over your fist and scan through the menu again. The sound of the bell makes you look up curiously as the new customer walks in. Dark clothing, hood over a cap, bomber jacket, jeans, and boots. Face completely unseen to everyone except by those who face him.
His jacket is wet and so are his boots since they squeak slightly on the floor with each step. The ladies at the counter greet the man, which gets them nothing but a nod in return. You put the menu down and lean back on your chair. Your teeth close on the inside of your cheek and you hold yourself from smiling.
Bruce undoes his jacket as he walks and takes the hood of his shirt from the top of his head. With no words, he lays the jacket on a chair at your table and takes a seat right in front of you.
You hide the look on your face by bringing your attention back to the menu, and you feel your heart beating quickly.
“Have you decided what you’d like?” The voice of the young worker almost scares you.
You look over at her and offer her a quick smile as she stands right by your table.
“I think I’ll just have some tea.”
Better not to have coffee. You’ll need to sleep eventually.
“And you, sir?” The girl asks, curiously bringing her eyes to Bruce.
You’re not sure if she can even get a good look at him. You know you didn’t. His face is quite hidden by the cap still and he’s keeping his head down. She must have no idea who he is.
“I think he’s good, thanks.” You say to her after some silent seconds.
The girl offers you a smile and takes away the menu. She gives Bruce another curious look before walking away and you look at the man in front of you.
Bruce lifts his head just after she moves away and you meet his eyes. Chills run through you and your heart squeezes at the sight of him.
“Quite rude to stalk people.” You tell him with a short smile.
“I could say the same thing about leaving people’s beds without telling them.” He answers with a low tone and with no hesitation.
Touché.
You continue to stare at him as his eyes burn into yours. Your skin has begun to warm naturally with his presence, more than you’d like to admit. His stare or even the look on his face doesn’t seem angry or even close to annoyed. He looks normal, unbothered.
“I’m sure you understand why I had to leave.” You tell him in a low tone as well.
“I do.” He answers.
“And, to be honest, you can’t really complain, can you?” You ask him with a tilt of your head in amusement, “You weren’t in bed either, if I remember correctly.”
He doesn’t answer this time and you try not to let out a smile. Bruce stares at you and feels his heart speed up at the way you’re looking at him. There’s no hate or annoyance in your face either. Just like in the night at Hale’s house.
Whispers steal your attention from Bruce and you break eye contact once more to stare at the 2 women behind the counter. The one that is whispering is the oldest one. You can’t quite understand what she’s saying but she is talking a whole bunch to the young girl, who doesn’t look rather pleased with whatever she’s saying.
You bring your eyes back to Bruce and he’s staring, again.
“For someone that doesn’t speak almost anything,” You start, “You stare a whole lot.”
A figure appears beside you and you look up to see the oldest server. She offers you a pleasant smile, one far from the expression she was just giving the girl, and she puts down your tea. You thank her and you notice how her eyes go automatically to Bruce.
You wait for her to leave, as does Bruce. Neither of you would like to continue your conversation with some kind of audience. One of which doesn’t even know it’s him that is standing before you. Yet, she’s not moving, she is simply staring at him.
“Thank you.” You repeat, louder this time, to get her attention back to you and away from him.
She excuses herself and you hold in the glare at the back of her head. She makes her way around the counter back to the young girl, ready to continue her either scolding or gossiping.
“I prefer to watch.” Bruce grabs your attention again.
“Uh, you don’t say.” You tease him as you grab your mug of hot tea and sip a bit of the liquid.
The corners of his lips pull up and he looks away to hide his urge to either laugh or grin. You smile at it and he looks back at you again.
“You do stare a lot too.” He tells you and you frown, doubting him.
You sip your tea as you watch him with squinted eyes and he lets out a smile at you. He leans his arm by the window and continues to stare.
“Do you not get bored?” You ask him sincerely, almost in a whisper, “When watching me?”
He looks away from you, and you can only guess you were too upfront and got him embarrassed. Each silent second that follows is slow, and he does not move. So, you move without thinking and tap his leg underneath the table to get his attention back to you.
“No.” He tells you, giving you a look that only lasts a second, a quite funny reaction to what you just did.
“Am I that interesting?” You ask as a joke, putting down your tea and he doesn’t answer. Bruce continues to stare back at you and you feel your, just now calm, heart come back to a quicker rhythm. “I don’t get it.”
“Me neither.” He admits, making you smile again.
There’s a comfortable silence between the two of you, even in such an unusual conversation, and you notice the women still whispering at one another. You try to ignore them and just stay focused on Bruce while you still have time to do so.
“For how long have you known?”
“Since a dinner with my parents, a few weeks ago.” You tell him, “I saw you cross the street.”
He doesn’t say anything but he does curse himself out for that one. He knew he had been quite careless that night and that cost him his cover. His only luck is that, for some unknown reason, you’re fine with this.
“For how long have you done it?” You ask him the question that has been burning your brain for so long.
“Too long.” He tells you simply and you frown.
“What…” You chuckle, “A year?” You try to guess.
He doesn’t answer. He feels shame creep onto his skin and it doesn't get easy to deal with it as you await an answer. Bruce feels that he has said too much and if he continues, it will only scare you off. Your face is clean of any judgment, but still, it feels wrong.
You don’t push the theme further as you notice that he won’t be answering anything else. You hope you haven’t ruined anything.
It’s nice to be able to hold such a comfortable conversation, even though it is nothing but abnormal when it comes to what it is about. Your interest in the answer doesn’t die, of course, but you will not push it out of him.
Bruce watches as you nervously tap the side of your hot white ceramic mug and pretend to seem relaxed when looking out of the window. He follows your eyes many times, but the contrast of the light from inside, which is quite a headache, and the darkness from outside, makes it impossible to notice a thing. Even for him.
“Heard business is going good.” He changes the subject.
You look over at him again, a smile growing further at the fact that he has continued the conversation himself. You tilt your head even when your motion has no real meaning and finally answer.
“It is.” You nod, “It’s been quite a while since it has been this… chaotic.” Bruce grins at your choice of words and your heart squeezes itself once more, “What about yours?”
He does a bit of a shrug. “Nothing changed, I don’t think.”
You try not to make your interest so obvious, but Bruce sees the question coming from a mile away.
“You don’t work much for the company, do you?” You ask him, out of pure curiosity.
“I only own 50% of it.” He tells you, “As everyone knows. I only deal with those 50%, which happen to not be too eventful.”
You nod at his words and bring your tea back to your lips, sipping the hot liquid carefully. Bruce doesn’t move much on his chair, and you can only guess why. Your gaze changes over to the two workers by the counter, and this time, you find now the younger one speaking.
“I can give you a ride home.” Bruce tells you, out of the blue.
“Don’t you use a bike at night?” You ask him and he almost seems shocked with how much you know. His eyes widen slightly and you hold in your laughter, “Do not take it personally, Mr. Wayne, but I am not getting on a bike when it’s pouring rain.”
Bruce grins at the formality you’ve randomly decided to pull into the conversation once more and as he’s opening his mouth to tease you for it, he sees someone walking close to the table in the corner of his eye.
“Is the tea to your liking, ma’am?” The younger girl now asks you.
“Yes, yes, it’s great. Thank you.” You tell her.
“Would you like anything else?”
Bruce listens to you as you politely refuse to have anything else. He keeps his face either turned to the dark window or to the table. He sometimes fights his urges to look up as the worker seems to pull you into some conversation - one he does not care enough to listen to - and stays with his eyes focused on your mug.
You’re deep into a conversation about your dress for the event that took place just a few weeks ago, and, no matter how much you try, the conversation always seems to find another turn. You find yourself checking on Bruce every few seconds, scared that he ever looks up and lets the excited girl see his face.
She knows you and your reputation, she would be no genius if she knew who Bruce is as well. Especially when the theme of the night which you wore the dress she so adored, is the one that includes both of your presences, right on the headline.
As the conversation seems to slowly find its end, you see the older worker begin to make her way toward the table. You find your polite smile, even if you don’t exactly find yourself energetic enough to keep the act for so long, and continue with the conversation as well as finish your tea.
Your phone vibrates on the table and you, without hesitation, flip it quickly to check who it is. You look out of the diner to already find your driver's car, headlines on and everything. You’re not even sure how you didn’t even see it arrive.
“It must be your ride.” The youngest girl says to you.
“It is.” You confirm it for her.
You get done with the paying of the tea and give Bruce a look, one he almost didn’t catch as he has been trying his best to keep some of his face hidden. He has even resorted to having his face by his fist and just staring at a bunch of nothing while listening to you speak.
You get up from the table and the two women take a step back to give you some space. Yet their eyes are not on you, they’re on Bruce. You grab your, still wet, coat and slip it on, closing it around you.
Bruce puts on his hood as well and stands from his chair, back to his tall height. You walk over around the table and wait for him. A poor excuse to stay in the line of vision of the women as he closes the jacket and faces the door.
You do say some quick farewells to the ladies and the two of you start making your way towards your exit. Bruce stays close behind you, yet when you get to the door, he’s the one that grabs it and holds it open for you. You offer him a grin as you walk out and he follows as well.
The ladies are left to stare from the inside of the empty diner and because you’re still so close to it, they can still see both figures from the light of their own establishment.
As you two walk rather quickly to the car, the pouring rain never stops so you even signal your driver to not leave the car to come and open the door for you.
“I believe I’ll see you much sooner than later.” You tell Bruce as you get to the door, hand on the handle.
He doesn’t answer verbally but the look of amusement on his face says enough. You pull the door open and walk right into the dry and warm car. Bruce takes a step back as the door closes and you stare at him for quite a bit while putting your seatbelt on.
“Would your friend like a drive home as well, Miss?” Your driver asks.
“No, no. His bike is not far from here.” You tell him.
Bruce faces the other direction as soon as your car begins to move and he locks eyes with his bike, hopefully still very much dry as ir was hidden under the fire stairs of the building.
“I’m telling you, that was Bruce Wayne.” The oldest woman of the diner says to the youngest.
The youngest worker slams the old drawer of the cash register and gives her aunt a look of complete disapproval. She has been on this weird theory ever since the man came into the diner.
Having a diner so close to your company has its perks as they get to see you come in and out of work ever so often. It’s quite thrilling to see public figures in person when they actually look real and look nothing but human. They never expected you to use their establishment as a refuge from the rain, of course, but they were ecstatic that it was happening. Even with the mystery man.
The same man her aunt thinks must be Bruce Wayne. She has been babbling about it ever since you made the headlines a few weeks back, her niece just never thought it would ever come this far. That being: beginning to see things.
“Or just any other man with dark hair and pale skin in this entire city.” She tells her aunt with an annoyed tone. “We didn’t even get to see a bit of his face.”
“And that is why it makes so much sense. If it’s not him, why would he hide his face?” Her aunt points her finger at her accusingly.
“Because the man is talking to a very private businesswoman. Don’t you remember the last time she was seen with someone else other than her parents at a dinner? All your magazines went crazy about it.” She reminds her.
“I think it’s him.” She shrugs, ignoring her niece’s comments.
The youngest looks at her and shakes her head in disbelief. Her aunt has gone absolutely crazy over gossip.
There’s a lack of sound that follows their words and both the waitresses look over their shoulders to the kitchen. Her cousin, and her aunt’s youngest daughter, is standing right by the kitchen’s window that looks into the dinner, listening to the whole conversation.
“Please tell me I’m making sense of this, honey.” Her aunt says to her daughter.
“Of course, you are.” Her daughter says without hesitation, “I thought it was him too right as I saw him.”
The aunt smiles triumphantly and gives her niece a funny look. The daughter watches the exchange with a smile on her face, but not of humor, of pride in her thoughts.
All rumors are sold to the media whenever you have at least 2 witnesses… Maybe it is time for the family to get some extra money in their pockets.

Midnight Rain
A/N: It's just after midnight and raining so I thought this would be a good time to post a new fic 🌧️
Summary: Barry is concerned when he wakes up and his wife isn't in bed.
Pairing: Barry Berkman x hitman!wife reader
Tumblr media
Barry wakes up to the sound of raindrops pitter pattering on the window. It’s the middle of the night and he just wants to go back to sleep. Your husband groggily turns over to your side of the bed so he can cuddle with you. But it’s empty. Your side of the bed is cold, which means you haven’t been there for a while.
Barry’s eyes shoot open. He looks toward the door. The bathroom light isn’t on. Barry doesn’t hear any sign of movement in the apartment. It’s eerily quiet except for the rain outside.
If something work related came up, it’s not like you to up and leave without telling Barry. Your husband can feel in his bones that something is not right…
Barry jumps out of bed. His mind is racing. Where is she? What happened to her? He immediately begins to fear the worst. You both have some big enemies. What if one of them wanted revenge? Barry is so anxious that he forgets to grab his gun before rushing out of the bedroom.
Barry quickly moves through the apartment looking for you. He notices the balcony light on and races toward it. Barry steps out onto the covered balcony and finds you watching the rain. You’re okay. Barry can breathe again.
“Fuck,” he lets out a sigh of relief.
You turn your head and find your husband standing by the sliding door.
“Oh sorry. Did I wake you?” you ask. You seem a little zoned out.
“Babe, what are you doing out here? It’s freezing,” Barry shivers.
“I couldn’t sleep so I went outside to think. And then it started to rain,” you explain.
“Come back to bed,” your husband tries.
You didn’t listen to what Barry just said. It’s like you’re lost in your own little world.
“It never rains in southern California. When I was a kid, it rained in my hometown all the time. I don’t really miss the rain except for midnights like this,” you quietly comment.
Barry’s face drops. You aren’t okay. Something is clearly wrong. He noticed that you started acting off earlier today. Barry was supposed to go on a job but you covered for him so he could make an audition. When he returned home, he found you out on the balcony just like this. Your husband didn’t want to push you to talk about it. He knew that you would open up to him in your own time. But now this is a problem that he can’t ignore.
Barry steps inside and grabs a throw blanket off the couch. Then he goes back outside and sits down beside you, covering you with the blanket.
“You don’t have to stay out here with me,” you mumble.
Yes he does.
“If you’re out here, I’m out here,” Barry tells you.
You give your husband an appreciative nod and snuggle up close to him. He wraps a protective arm around you. You feel safe.
“Thank you,” you breathe.
“Can you tell me what’s wrong? Did something happen on the hit?” he pushes you to open up.
You shrug and shake your head. Then you begin to vent.
“No, the job went fine. It’s just… I was really proud of you for going on that audition today. But it also made me realize that I don’t have anything that I’m passionate about like you and acting. To be honest, I never really thought about my future before I met you. I always assumed that I’d do this job until it killed me. We’ve talked about leaving this life one day to start a family but I’m afraid that I won’t be able to go through with it. I don’t have any career goals like you do with acting  And I don’t have a college degree to fall back on. When I left home, I only had like two semesters of Community under my belt. I’m qualified for nothing! I have no skills besides killing people. What if…what if that’s the only thing I’m good at?”
Barry nods, taking in everything you just said. He understands completely because he’s had the exact same fears as you.
“Killing people isn’t the only thing you’re good at,” your husband reassures you.
You try to get a read on Barry’s face. He looks sincere but you’re still not convinced.
“And I didn’t know that I loved acting until I accidentally crashed Mr. Cousineau’s class one day. When I started taking acting classes, it changed everything-”
A lightbulb suddenly goes off in Barry’s head.
“Have you ever thought about going back to school?” he asks.
You sigh, looking down at your lap.
“I don’t know. It's probably too late for me…”
“No, it’s not. You should try taking some classes down at the City College. You might find something you love,” Barry suggests.
You raise your eyebrows.
“You really think I could get my degree?” you shyly ask.
Barry nods.
“Yeah. I think you can do anything,” he answers without hesitation.
Your heart melts. You really needed to hear that right now. Barry believes in you when you can’t even believe in yourself. He is your sunshine.
“Thank you,” you mouth to him.
Barry kisses your forehead. Then he rises to his feet.
“C’mon, let’s go back to bed,” he says softly.
Your husband puts his hand out and you take it. He helps you stand up. The two of you go back inside hand in hand.

Can we get 11 and 29 with Josh please?
11. “You’re trembling.”
29 has already been requested with josh
Tumblr media
spending time with josh was always a wonderful time. no matter what you two were doing, the entire day just slips away from you because of how fun he is to be around and how much he makes you laugh and forget about your worries.
that’s how you two found yourselves dancing in the rain in his back yard, music from the record player in his house carrying through the open door of the back deck so you two could enjoy it out there.
what you promptly forgot, is that you still had to go home. it was still early in your relationship, and the one sort of moment you have yet to cross yet was sleeping over at the other’s place. it wasn’t something that neither of you really thought about or anything, he’s just been so busy with studio visits, meetings, and interviews.
but tonight, it felt right. as soon as you two re-entered the kitchen, josh shutting the door. he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you close.
“so…you wanna stay over?” he wonders. “i mean…i’d hate to drive you home in soaking wet clothes, and it’s pretty late, i don’t entirely like driving in the rain, so, what do you say?” he bites his lip and stares at you.
“did you bring me out to dance in the rain just to get me to stay?” you tease, feeling your heart rate increase a bit. he chuckles lightly and raises his hand to wipe some rain drops off your face.
“i didn’t, i promise. but come on, stay with me? please?”
“okay,” you sigh, giving in to him, curling into his chest.
“great. well, um, i’ll let you shower, and i’ll get you some clothes to change into, and then we can cuddle up the rest of the night and watch movies.”
“i love that, josh.”
just as he planned, you quickly showered and got dressed in one of his long-sleeve white t-shirts and a pair of cotton shorts, curling up together on the couch under a thin blanket. due to the dropping temperature outside and the chill from being outside in the rain still in your bones, you couldn’t manage to get warm.
when you two moved to his bedroom to get ready to head to bed a little after midnight, you kept your space a bit.
“you can move closer, honey,” he laughs softly, opening his arms for you. sighing softly, you nuzzle into his side, entwining your legs with his. “you’re trembling, darling.”
“i’m still a bit cold from the rain,” you murmur, sighing as you feel his warm skin against your face.
“i can get a couple more covers, here, stay there.” he quickly gets up and walks to the closet in his room. he fumbles around a bit before he returns with a thick, fuzzy black blanket and a forest green one. he throws one on top of his comforter and tucks the other one underneath it, on top of you, sandwiching his tan comforter between then.
he quickly crawls back under the cover and pulls you into his arms, kissing your forehead.
“that better, baby, hm?” he whispers. smiling, you nod against his shoulder and reach up to kiss him.
“thank you, josh. i love you.”
“i love you too, honey. i always will.”

Fic 2 rough draft
Don't forget to go vote! 5 days left :)
**keep in mind these are ROUGH drafts, so you can get a feel of the story, not what's actually going to be posted. It'll be revised and longer.
Anna looked at the time. She frowned when she saw it was nearly midnight.
‘He should’ve been home by now,’ she thought to herself as she checked for any messages.
She knew she couldn’t let Sarah stay alone, she was only five, but she needed to get home before the storm got any worse.
Leaning back into the couch, she closed her eyes, listening to the ticking clock fill the silence.
Fifteen minutes passed by before she heard the sounds of his boots coming up the porch, the lock clicking as he came in, the dull lamp the only thing illuminating the room.
“Shit,” he mumbled when he saw her sitting on the couch, “sorry Anna, I got caught up at work.”
She waved a dismissive hand, taking note of how wet his shirt was. The drive home was going to be hell.
“It’s okay,” she dismissed, “need anything before I head out?”
He shook his head, sitting on the couch to unlace his boots, the smell of dust and leather filling the air.
“Just one of Sarah’s stuffed animals,” he said, grabbing it as he placed it behind his head, “they make good pillows.”
Anna let out a small laugh at him. He was right, she frequently used them while Sarah was napping, and even when they played on the floor.
“There’s chicken in the microwave. Sarah made your plate, so there’s a lot of mac-n-cheese on there,” Anna noted, looking out the window.
She gave a mental groan. There was no way she was getting home safely in this rain with her broken windshield wipers.
She weighed her options before going to the kitchen and heating up the food, grabbing Joel a glass of water before setting the food on the coffee table, sitting on the other end of the couch.
He opened one eye, looking in front of him before sitting up.
“You didn’t need to do that, Anna,” he said, grabbing the fork.
Anna shrugged, “I doubt you’ve had dinner yet. It’s not a problem,” she said, “besides, I know you weren’t going to eat if I didn’t.”
She watched him shake his head, “I thought you were Sarah’s babysitter, not mine.”
“Can’t babysit a kid whose dad doesn’t eat enough.”
Joel gave her a look. “I eat.”
“Okay, Mr. Miller,” she said, ending the argument before it started. It was a frequent occurrence of her making sure to remind him of dinner, and taking his lunch he forgets at home so Sarah can visit him.
“Joel. Please, being a dad already makes me feel old.”
Anna laughed at his comment, grabbing her phone to check the weather.
She had another thirty minutes before the rain was supposed to ease. She felt bad taking up space and Joel’s alone time after a long day of work, but she couldn’t get money if she got into an accident.
“You’re allowed to leave,” he stated, quickly correcting the harsh words, “I mean, it’s late and you have to be back early.”
“Bad wipers and pouring rain don’t mix. Just need a few minutes for it to ease up, if that’s okay?”
Joel nodded, leaning back into the couch, closing his eyes as he placed an arm over his eyes.
She grabbed his plate, taking it to the kitchen to wash it.
‘If I’m going to intrude, I may as well be useful.’
“You don’t have to do the dishes, you’re off the clock.”
She turned around, seeing Joel leaning against the door frame.
“I’m intruding on your personal time, I may as well be useful.”
Turning the water off, she turned to face him, leaning against the counter.
She took the chance to look him over. She knew he was an attractive man, between his job and working out, he kept in good shape, and his face didn’t help with the attraction.
He cleared his throat, quirking a brow at her.
“Something on your mind darlin’.”

Alone Time

Bruce Wayne x reader
Summary: 4 times the boys interrupted Bruce and his new girlfriend and the 1 time they didn’t.
Warning: eventual smut, blue balls
Bruce didn’t date often despite his reputation as a playboy. He might occasionally have overnight visitors because he is a healthy adult male after all. But that’s pretty much stopped recently due to his children. It’s hard finding a partner when you’re a single father to half a dozen kids.
But sometimes luck and circumstances work in Bruce’s favor and he met you. A few coffee shop dates and walks in a nearby park. A date to a bookstore. And even pottery making date. He was actually falling for someone (??). Bruce didn’t know what to do. He had no training for anything more than the occasional sexual activity. But he really liked you and took his time getting to know you before doing more than a few short makeouts.
But tonight he wanted to take you back to his place. He had a plan and everything. A nice dinner at one of the 5 star restaurants he liked followed by a quiet car ride back to the manor where Alfred had the night off and Damian was staying over at Jon Kent’s. It was going to be great.
So when your hand slid across the table while biting your lip at the end of the dessert course, Bruce knew it was time to go. He grasped your hand and both of you left for his car. Bruce opened your door to help you in and everything. As he strapped on his own seatbelt you reached you hand over again to rest on his thigh. Bruce turned and pulled you into a kiss. He pulled back with an unasked question.
He pulled to a stop a little too quickly causing you to giggle when you shoved your hand down his waistband in the driveway. Bruce cupped your face with one hand as the other slid up your dress. It was messy but so perfect. He wanted to do things as planned in his prepared bed but your fingers wrapped around him as he fingered you was pretty fucking nice. After a minute he came to his senses.
“Let’s take this inside,” he breathed and you nodded. Hands pulled apart just long enough for you both to get out of the car. Hands grabbed and lips connected as you both stumbled up the driveway. Bruce almost dropped the keys as your hand ran up his thigh to cup his obvious erection.
Bruce pulled you inside before pressed you against the wall in the hall as you kissed. His hands ran down your ass to the back of your thighs and just as he was going to pull them up to wrap around his waist, a glass crashed on the floor. You both jumped to look at the source.
Tim Drake stood in the doorway from the kitchen with a broken glass of water on the floor. Bruce tried to hide you and cover his pants at the same time.
Tim Drake stood in the doorway from the kitchen with a broken glass of water on the floor. Bruce tried to hide you and cover his pants at the same time.
“T-Tim! What brings you here??” Bruce asked.
“The meeting at 1?” Tim asked.
“Tim, that’s at 1 pm. In the afternoon. It’s just past midnight,” Bruce replied. Tim stood awkwardly. He was clearly exhausted.
“I guess I better go…” he said stepping around the mess. He swayed on his feet and Bruce couldn’t let him leave.
“No, just sleep in your old room tonight. You shouldn’t drive tired,” Bruce replied with a sigh, knowing his night was going to go very different.
“Okay,” Tim mumbled walking the wrong direction. Bruce guided him to his room while shooting you an apologetic look.
“I apologize. He’s one of my sons. He’s an adult but forgets to sleep sometime,” Bruce said with an awkward laugh.
“That’s alright,” you replied. “I didn’t know you had a teenage son.”
“I adopted him,” Bruce added. “He’s 19 and on China time with his work.”
“That’s nice,” you replied unsure what to say.
“I’m sorry about tonight. Do you want a ride home?” He asked. Just as he said that Tim called from his room “do you have an ethereal cable?”
“If you don’t mind,” you replied knowing the night was over.
—————————
It was a full 2 weeks later that Bruce had another opportunity. This time he made sure that all of the younger Wayne’s were busy and not at the manor. Alfred got another night off. Bruce set up everything in house with a caterer delivering your favorite food just as Bruce lit candles.
You ran your leg up his pants leg as you ate. Bruce resisted the urge to quickly eat just so he could take you to his bedroom. The meal ended with you both feeding each other cheesecake bites. Bruce reached over and licked at a bit on the corner of your mouth. It turned into a makeout and Bruce let the fork clatter to the plate. He was going to carry you upstairs.
“Oh hey, don’t mind me,” said a voice in the doorway. Bruce sighed heavily while pulling back.
“Jason,” he said in a tone that was unnecessarily rough but it was the second time he was interrupted.
“Hey Dad, I just wanted to ask you about your hunting rifle and if I can borough it,” Jason said.
“You can get whatever you need but please call before stopping by,” Bruce answered.
“Cool, I’m not sure where….”
“Give me a minute. Sorry,” Bruce told you before getting up. He was annoyed and horny and that made his mind foggy. He didn’t think about leaving you with Jason alone.
He came back just as Jason asked, “so are you gonna be my new mom?” You choked and coughed.
“Okay, here’s your stuff. Please leave. He’s joking. You’re joking right?” Bruce quickly added.
“Sure Dad. But having a mom in my life would be nice,” Jason replied with a shit eating grin.
“Leave,” Bruce commanded and Jason left with his stuff while laughing.
“I’m sorry. He’s one of my other sons that I adopted. He won’t bother-“
“Bruce, this is the wrong bag. Do you have the one-“ Jason came back with it open to show gym clothes.
“I’ll just go,” you offered. “You seem busy.”
“Do you know where the red bag is?” Jason continued.
“I’ll drive you,” Bruce offered.
“No I’ll get a car. Uber gets here really quickly usually,” you replied getting up. Bruce gave Jason a death glare.
“At least let me walk you out,” Bruce asked. You nodded.
“Did Damian take my bag?” Jason asked looking in a drawer. Bruce sighed heavily.
“I will look in a minute.”
Bruce turned to you as the car arrived. “I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
“I know,” you replied.
—————————
Bruce was going to try something different. If the boys could leave the manor, he would leave the manor. He hadn’t shown you the penthouse yet anyways. He took you to the theatre to watch a ballet before walking back to the penthouse only a few blocks away.
You looked like a cute chaste couple with only a light handhold on the way to his place. But in the elevator, you leaned over the whisper in his ear, “I really hope we are alone. You look practically edible in that suit.” Your breath ghosted over the shell of his ear and Bruce inhaled quickly. It had been weeks at this point and no amount of self love was making him any less horny. Simple touches had his mind absolutely racing.
Just as Bruce opened the door to the penthouse, you took approximately one second to close the door before pushing him to the couch and crawling on his lap. You didn’t mind his kids but if this gorgeous kind generous man didn’t fuck you soon, you might lose your mind.
His hands kneaded your thighs before reaching up to unzip the delicate fabric of your dress. You unbuttoned his shirt roughly. He pulled the straps off your shoulder and was about to push the dress down to your waist to expose your breasts when a key in the door froze you both.
In stumbled Dick with Kori. Both of them were doing a similar makeout dance with his hand already in her shorts and she had already ripped the buttons of his shirt.
“Hmm,” Bruce made a noise, not knowing what else to do as you quickly straightened your dress. Dick and Kori swung around quickly.
“Bruce!” Dick yelped jumping away from Kori. “You- I didn’t- you- we were nearby,” he stammered. “Sorry.”
You looked between Dick and Bruce who were far too close in age to be father and son. Bruce sighed and scratched his head.
“This is my eldest son, Richard, and his girlfriend, Kori,” Bruce introduced you to them. Kori held out a hand delicately. You shook it and shook Dick’s hand. It might be the most uncomfortable moment of your life with sitting on your boyfriends lap while meeting his son and son’s girlfriend.
“Nice to meet you. We’re gonna go,” Dick said awkwardly. Kori waved at the door before they both left.
You climbed off of Bruce’s lap.
“Sorry about that. He’s my eldest son that I adopted and I forgot he has a spare key. He doesn’t even live in Gotham anymore,” Bruce replied, earnestly. “So do you want to…”
“Kinda lost the mood,” you admitted.
“Sure, yeah,” Bruce replied, wondering if he could die from frustration.
—————————
A different penthouse in Metropolis was Bruce’s plan. If he left Gotham altogether, his sons couldn’t bother him. So you both went around to see the sites of the city. Place that you never knew existed and wondered how Bruce even knew about them himself. It was windy but warm day. Pretty much perfect for site seeing and walking the city. But as it faded to evening, the weather began to cool to just a little to brisk for your light jacket.
“Are you cold?” Bruce asked, already taking his jacket off to wrap around your shoulders. You knew better than to protest and instead thanked him. He guided your towards a food truck. “It’s highly recommended by a friend,” he offered. Clark and Lois had helped him plan the entire date.
Something about how handsome he looked and how great the day had been had you looking at him a little differently and you even surprised yourself when you whispered naughtily in his ear, “we should get it to go.” Bruce looked back at you in a discreet but knowing look before giving a tiny nod.
Half an hour later you were in the elevator to his penthouse.
“Bruce,” you said turning to him in the private elevator. It was his building so of course he had a penthouse only elevator. He hummed questioningly. You cupped both sides of his face. His hands were full of food bags. You kissed him gently and then deeper as you ascended to the floor.
You pulled away playfully as the elevator dinged and Bruce followed into the main area of the apartment where he sat down the bag before chasing after you playfully. You shrieked when he caught you. His arms wrapped around your waist and he pulled you flush to his body in a deep kiss.
“Father,” came a voice from the dark recess in the corner. You jumped and hid behind him instinctively.
“Damian,” Bruce replied. His posture and voice changed. “What are you doing here? You are supposed to be at Jon’s house.”
“Hi Mr Wayne,” said another child behind Damian. Bruce sighed.
“Hello Jon. You both should not be here. Let’s get you back to your parents house,” Bruce said.
“First, who is this woman? And what are your intentions with my father,” Damian asked you. Before you could come up with an answer, Bruce stepped in.
“Let’s go. I’ll drive you,” he said sweeping the boys from the apartment. You sat down on the couch and kicked off your shoes. It was cold in the building and you grabbed the blanket on the couch to wrap up in.
And when Bruce returned 2 hours later, he found you asleep in that exact spot. Nothing was happening that night.
————————
Bruce had given up. He was never going to have sex ever again. He was losing his mind. Clark and Diana found his misery amusing. The criminals he punched in crime alley found it less amusing.
And Bruce’s body was embarrassing. He was getting boners when on the phone with you and even had a wet dream about finally having sex. It was 2 months and he had semi permanent blue balls.
You had invited him over to hang out. Just a movie and ordered in dinner. It wasn’t Bruce’s fancy dates but it was nice. And he certainly wasn’t complaining when you climbed on his lap halfway thru the movie.
“I think we’re finally alone,” you said.
“I appreciate you waiting all this time,” Bruce replied. He held your waist as you bent to kiss him.
“Make it worth it,” you whispered in his ear. Bruce inhaled quickly. Fuck that was hot. You licked the shell before biting at the muscle of his neck. Bruce had to regain control or you’d have him popping off in his pants and he’d never live that down.
He picked you up and you gasped with a grin. He carried you to your bed and tossed all the pillows off before laying you in the middle. Bruce hovered over you. His lips pressed against yours before moving down your throat. He helped you out of your shirt before pulling his own off. Your fingers ghosted over scars on his chest. You didn’t ask but wondered. He was so handsome.
He planted wet soft kisses across your chest while unclasping your bra and tossing it off. He cupped both breasts in each hand before diving in to mouth at one. He kissed and nipped at the skin before gently running his tongue over the nipple. You made the softest sounds as he gave each breast attention. His saliva cooled in air causing your nipples to pebble instantly. He sucked gently on one bud watching your reaction before repeating the motion just experimenting with your pleasure. He lapped at the bud and you moaned while cupping his head and Bruce decided he could do this all day. But no, there was more to be seen and done.
He kissed down your stomach while pushing your skirt up and thighs open. Bruce didn’t bother to take your panties off but mouthed at your pussy through the fabric. You gasped harshly. Bruce’s ministration combined with your wetness to absolutely soak the fabric before he finally pulled them down and off. He wasted just a moment to appreciate the beauty of your wet swollen cunt before diving in. His hand snaked up your body to cup a breast while he devoured you.
“Bruce- I-“ you gasped before your thighs clamped around his ears as you came. Bruce eagerly lapped you through it. Your thighs loosened and Bruce slowed down enough to gently catch your wetness leisurely. He was fully intent on repeating his actions when you grabbed him and pulled him up to your face.
You kissed him deeply, pulling his tongue in your mouth to suck on. You could taste your own wetness. Your fingers pulled at his belt futilely.
“Help me out here,” you finally said and Bruce sat up and took off his pants while you twisted to grab a box of condoms. “Dealers choice?” You asked and he grabbed one before rolling it on while maintaining eye contact. It had no business being that hot. Bruce licked his fingers and pushed them inside you while watching you like a predator.
“Fuck me,” you purred and Bruce pulled his fingers out to be replaced with his cock. He was a good size and you gasped at the stretch. It had months since the last time you’d had sex. Bruce sat a leisurely pace before reaching his hands up to cup your wrists above your head with one hand. Convenient for him to kiss down your exposed throat and play with your tits. You reached your legs up to wrap around his waist.
It brought him even deeper and you gasped. Bruce slid his free hand from your tit down to play with your clit. He knew it’d been too long for him to last long the first round. He experimented with speed and depth and finger movements until you were once again making moans. It didn’t take much for you to clench around him deliciously as you came. Bruce instantly followed.
He breathed heavily on your neck for a moment before pulling out to clean up. You watch hungrily as he moved around the room nude. His body was magnificent. He came back in bed with a glass of water that he handed to you. You looked at him quizzically.
“You didn’t think it was only going to be one round after waiting all that time?” He asked and you grinned before pulling him on top of you after sitting the water down.
“Well, in that case Mr Wayne, you should have gotten us both some water,” you purred while wrapping your fingers around his cock.
