Two things can be true at once:
1. Wanting queer people to be the storytellers of queer narratives is important, and it's okay to want queer people representing many queer experiences.
2. This does not, however, mean that queer people should put themselves in danger in order to be "good representation". We are not entitled to the queerness of others, just like nobody is entitled to yours.

sorry but i’m tired of books/media with softcore trans guy protags who are wimpy and anxious and never stop thinking about how trans they are and have a flowery little romance with a guy who calls them cute. like that’s all good and fine but where are my trans guy protags who are straight up gross. evil. covered in dirt and blood all the time. give me a trans guy character who spits and kills people and fucks to the death and doesn’t give a shit about shit PLEASE i am begging you

y'all don't like hearing this but sanitization of media and attempting to make every story full of perfect representation and the most wholesome themes set back storytelling and diversity in media by decades

Episode 3 of Baymax is SO important for all of the reasons that people a lot smarter and more articulate than me have been saying, but i also want to mention it’s absolutely hilarious and I want to consensually kiss on the mouth whoever came up with the concept of Baymax in the menstrual health aisle. The double meaning period joke was corny but did in fact have me laugh out loud. Hats off to all who worked on ‘Sofia’

Revisited a story that was very important to me as a child, and learned about the author being very vocal about the harm gender roles & stereotypes cause. I thought "oh that's great!" but was afraid. What if she only applied that logic to cis ppl?
I did some searching, and found out that not only does she support trans ppl, but has also spoken multiple times about how important it is to be able to see protagonists outside of the perceived norm. A.K.A., she doesn't see my very existence as wrong.
I let out a deep sigh of relief. I could continue to enjoy this thing that had been so important to me growing up.
But this isn't the first time something like this has happened. Too often I discover a new artist, or even be unsure of one I've enjoyed the work of for a long time up to the present; and I have to desperately search to know if I can enjoy their work. Either I am extremely relieved, or absolutely crushed.
This shouldn't be necessary. I shouldn't be feeling this deep fear that something so important to me, was created by someone who despises my very existence. That I, as a disabled queer femme ex-mormon Pagan witch who was raised like a girl, will be shoved off the emotional cliff of "this person you looked up to hates you for the same reason all bigots do".
I was so terrified that something that meant so much to me as a kid could've shattered me emotionally. Simply because I didn't know if the person who made it hates people like me.
We shouldn't have to live like this.

the new doctor who episode saying "fuck TERFS" and celebrating queerness, gender identity and diversity whilst being completely unapologetic and not at all subtle about it is the best thing ever

one thing I wish I saw in trans representation more was having hormone discorders/etc. i don't think I've ever even seen a trans masc with pcos in a show or anything! or a trans fem with hormone deficiency!!

Transphobe: "You're a man."
Me: "LMAO! Looking like *this*? You need your eyes checked."
Queer Transphobe: "You're a man."
Me, on my knees like I just had my heart ripped out of my chest: "Et tu, Brutus?"

Hot take but insisting on using they/them pronouns for Xion, the LITERAL ONLY character in Kingdom Hearts who aggressively and intentionally tells people she is a girl and expresses dysphoria about being misgendered as not-a-girl, is fundamentally no different than Saix refusing to stop calling her 'it' send post.

okay i get it but i also think its important to acknowledge that there is a difference between knowing from an audience standpoint that a character should be queer VS it firmly being acknowledged verbally within the narrative as a solid aspect of that character's identity irrefutably
#this reminds me of keeley jones from ted lasso like i get it shes “always” been bisexual but its so hard to tell if the writer is being#sincere in their representation or not#people joke about queerness bc haha lol look a gay person or look hot super model slept with woman#in keeley's case it was literally a joke intended to shock rebecca like that is not confirmation that is a joke the writer is making#it needs to be said or expressed in a way that is outside of a throwaway haha gotcha joke#the doctor has been kissed by men and kissed men in moments of celebration and theyve been laughed off#hes made comments that the audience is SUPPOSED TO think are jokes. queer audiences just see past that and straight audiences dont#its important that it was not only said but talked about even if it was in passing. it wasnt a punchline or the set up for a joke#donna comments that a man is hot > the doctor agrees enthusiastically that the man was really hot >#they both acknowledge the doctors attraction to men and his openness about it > donna says it was always obvious#its not about creating his queerness its always been there its about finally being in a place to say it out loud#from a narrative standpoint you could say now he's the kind of person who talks openly about his attraction and feelings#from an audience standpoint i hope we can acknowledge that its bc they couldnt outright say he was bisexual/lesbian/queer/trans/nombinary#now they can#thats the difference i think#doctor who

sometimes a piece of media gets praised too much that I loose some appreciation for it (maybe because it raises expectations). The star beast however, is a piece of media which I love more every time I see it criticized on mainstream social media
