#it's hard to stay true to pacifist ideals

The way people talk about pacifists, in media, in fandom, in life can be so damn infantilizing. "How stupid and naive, to say violence isn't the best option." Whole episodes to show that a group of pacifists in the face of danger are dumb, unable to protect themselves, unable to handle violence, needing to be taught that their pacifism is wrong and that violence is the good and best option. Others showing them as passive, on the sidelines. People talk about the right to commit violence, when violence is right, but then there are those scoffing at the idea of a right to not commit violence.
As if being a pacifist is easy. As if committing to those ideals in the face of danger, in the face of one's own rage, is always easy. As if groups of pacifists weren't born of civil wars and raging pain, as if pacifists haven't been committed and dedicated to making the world better. As if they can't be brave, running through storms of bullets to deliver goods to make people's lives easier. As if they haven't been abolitionists, medics, and worked hard to improve things instead of just letting the horrors of the world bowl them over.

Okay, chapter 208 of "Vinland Saga". I have to say I'm a little disappointed in this chapter, and it goes back to my main criticism of "Vinland Saga" in general, which is that it tends toward easy, convenient resolution to problems for the sake of the story's themes.
This chapter focuses on Cordelia, mostly through flashbacks with her mother, and at the end of the whole thing, after getting shot with dozens on arrows in the back, she somehow finds the strength to stand up and block the door to Thorfinn and Gurdrid's house and repel the attack by the Lnu through nothing but intimidation. My problem with this whole thing is, not only is it stupidly unrealistic (remember, Thors got shot full of arrows at the beginning of this story and died as a result of his wounds, and we know that Thors was infinitely stronger than Thorkill, Cordelia's father), but it also does away completely with the tension that's been building over the last, several chapters of Thorfinn's family being put in peril by the Lnu attack, and what that might lead to in regards to Thorfinn's ability to stay true to his oath of non-violence, specifically, his vow never to kill again.
It's convenient that Cordelia is able to repel the Lnu's attack without having to resort to violence herself. We're meant to believe that she's so strong, that spears and arrows topped by stone arrowheads can't pierce her flesh, and so all she has to do is stand there to prevent an attack upon Thorfinn's family. I really don't buy this, man. And that's what I mean when I say "Vinland Saga", for as much as I love it (and I do) tends to lose me sometimes because of it's over-reliance on convenient, implausible solutions to mounting tension and predicaments.
Of course, I don't think this is the end of the conflict. Not by a long shot. The Lnu are still in Arnheid's village, and are still seemingly hellbent on acquiring iron weapons. And we know Ivar and the rest of his group are headed their way. A confrontation between the two groups is clearly inevitable, and no doubt people are going to die.
I'm just a little disappointed that it seemed like a situation was being built toward that would truly test Thorfinn's resolve to remain a pacifist, only to have that situation immediately resolved in a way that's simply too convenient and relies too much on suspension of disbelief to be believable. These kinds of moments in "Vinland Saga", in which the theme of resolving conflict through non-violence becomes more important than the story itself, are what keep it from being truly great at times. It wants to push its agenda so hard that sometimes the actual story-telling suffers as a result. It drains it of tension, it drains it of drama and even emotion. And that sucks. Because when "Vinland Saga" DOES hit those emotional beats properly, and presents its themes and story in a more realistic way, it's one of the best manga's I've ever read. It's just, you can feel Yukimura struggling sometimes between telling a truly great, compelling story, but wanting to force that story to fit his theme of pacifism, rather than force the theme to fit the story. You can show that pacifism is better than violence without solving every conflict through non-violence. Violence is always a tragedy, but it can't always be avoided. That's something "Vinland Saga" sometimes refuses to acknowledge in its quest to promote pacifism, and it can pitch the story from the territory of serious drama to cartoonish idealism, which is always incredibly jarring.
I also felt this chapter derailed the latest arc's momentum somewhat by only focusing on Cordelia and not showing us Thorfinn at all. I wanted to see how he's fairing in the woods against the other tribes. It was a short chapter, though, so hopefully we'll get to see that in the next.
I also am still highly anticipatory over what's going to happen between Thorfinn and Einar. I said in my last post, about chapter 207, that it felt to me like a conflict was brewing between the two of them, that they were being set at odds with one another, and that it felt to me like it might come down to a situation in which Einar chooses to side with Ivar and his group against Thorfinn. We know Einar isn't amenable to the idea of leaving Vinland, that he feels them having to leave isn't right or fair, given all the hard work they've put in to building a community, etc... That the choice shouldn't be up to Thorfinn alone. I think it would be brilliant if the outbreak of war were to tear Thorfinn and Einar apart. It's through things like THAT in which the tragedy of violence can be demonstrated. Can you imagine? Thorfinn has already lost so much due to war and violence. If he were to lose his first and closest friend to it, not through Einar being killed (though that could also still happen) but through the simple existence of hostility between groups of people, that would really drive home just how awful war and violence is. That it could tear two people who were once inseparable apart.
Anyway, hopefully the next chapter is more interesting. Yukimura has been on a roll these past, several months with this arc. I'm hoping it doesn't wrap up in a nice, neat bow like some of the previous ones have, where nothing of consequence is really lost. We'll see.

Trigun Ultimate 2 Part 3
Chapter 3: Fragile
Tumblr media
That page. It says so much. Monev is totally on his warpath. From his perspective, Diablo-Vash is the true Vash, but to counter this, we the reader know that the “ridiculous” aim was Vash staying true to his pacifist ideals. This is the true Vash. For the better and the worse. He is angry, spiteful, enraged, but he is still pacifist!
Tumblr media
Aw, the mask has little fangs!
I stay by my words that Vash may have killed someone in the last 150 years by accident. He is attentive, but this attack here is not careful! He had no way of knowing that the shield would withstand five shots from his modified gun! Pacifism itself means that you don't want to harm another person, but Vash harms more than a few people. Vash only sees alive and not unharmed. His stance on pacifism is a weird one from the start.
Tumblr media
And he took it personally ever since!
As others have already said, Knives is grieving Rem. But he cannot deal with it. So he needs to look at her actions as being done with intent to hurt him specifically.
Truly, Knives is the true fragile one, not Vash.
Chapter 4: Scars
Tumblr media
I love this line. It shows that Vash even in his weird pacifism is not naive. He does not trust the assassin that was sent to kill him. He takes measures to keep himself safe. He knows that his decision could have been the wrong one and that sparing means nothing to Monev. He risks it for Rem. (more for his memory of Rem)
I assume that we won’t meet Monev in S2, since Vash and Wolfwood have a similar scene in Stampede.
Tumblr media
Man, this hits hard. Vash’s smile is like, I know, tehee. But he knows, he just doesn’t tell them.
The insurance women around him notice his obvious predicament, they see that something more is going on, but he keeps quiet. That is so frustrating about Vash. He doesn’t open up. Not only that, by not telling them he takes their ability to decide on their own with all the information from them. Of course, this is about his own fear of connection and the vulnerability that comes with it, but damn, it is frustrating. If they knew, would they still follow him or distance themselves? In my opinion, Vash fears both decisions. Staying endangers them, leaving would be another rejection of Vash from humanity.
Even when he does finally open up, he barely says anything and leaves it to the other party to connect the dots. People need to worm information out of him and they barely ever do, because it may overstep boundaries. Such behaviour is fucking frustrating! I, as a reader, am somewhat frustrated with him, watching this really nice guy being so lonely and putting up walls. He hasn’t got anyone who makes him put those down.
Tumblr media
Well, he does open up to Milly and Meryl about his motives. He may have said even more to them, because the scene pans out after that. But since we don’t see it, it doesn’t exist for us readers. Women! Ask him who this important person was! Ask him who he wants to settle the score with and how he’d do it! Ask him why he thinks he wasn’t able to save her! Give him a reality check that nothing that happened was his fault! They would give him that reality check! But they need the info for that.
What is frustrating for me in this scene is that he could have opened up more, if the women asked him. By not at least showing that Meryl and Milly feel pretty passive to me. They were already somewhat helpless bystanders in the fight with Monev. Have his walls go up after they ask, but make them ask, make them show interest and connection to Vash. For me, this reads often more like an interest for the mystery of Vash and not for the person Vash and I know that this is not what was intended!
Then again, why should they dig into him to get any info? It is not their job to make him open up. They are not his psychiatrists. Just, as a reader, I am more inclined to feel for the protagonist in this moment, so my ire is more on the handling of the insurance women or with depiction of women in shonen/seinen manga in general. But no, I won't open this can of worms.
Hello, new evil guy. Bye, new evil guy.
Tumblr media
That eyesight! That aim!
Sigh, and again, Meryl and Milly are pushed aside. *grumbls*
Chapter 5: Muder cafe
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, with how people treat him and with the human trafficking going around, not to mention what else they implied, I kinda understand Legato’s and even more so Knives’ point of view.
But Legato counters his own view by rescuing those women. The guy has more going on behind the scenes and I wish we would see more of that conflict. If he really wasn’t interested in humanity’s survival, he wouldn’t have warned the women after he saved them. He would have just killed everyone in the cafe.

Jax was asked what he thought of Milvirvilan's words and how he experienced the beginning of their relationship. @westealtoys and @dmagedgoods -------
"Ah, now I'm being asked what I think about it? I should probably phrase that answer carefully." Jax says with a grin in Midnight's direction, tenderly placing his hand over his.
"He's absolutely right.
I understand today that he had to hate me back then, I was so stupid. I was centuries old and thought I was so incredibly wise without knowing a thing about life.
At first I thought I was born to lead the world on the path of the Golddragons, to unite the dragons and lead everyone into a better era. I know how naive and foolish that sounds. But when you sit in an egg for centuries and are told over and over again that you are the true hope and destined for greatness, you start to believe it.
I saw in Midnight something like a fallen angel who needs to be helped back on his feet so that he can find his path again. My first project to fulfill my prophecy.
I thought that if I taught him enough about the mindset of the gold and silver dragons, he would eventually realize that he was a part of it. The fact that he didn't bite my head off is something I owe to his pacifistic nature.
I had to realize for myself that these ideals are nothing more than the narrow-minded traditions of far too old beings. Who are incapable of adapting, changing, or rethinking the correctness of their own actions.
Lia and Dae have certainly influenced me a lot, but most of all they have broadened my horizons. They showed me that there are different ways of looking at the world, different forms of truth, of freedom. That's when I started to understand Midnight better and could accept the choice he made for his life.
From that time on, our friendship became more peaceful.
It didn't take long for me to realize that my feelings for him were changing, but I didn't know how to deal with it. So I kept it to myself for a long time.
At a small party Galfrey had invited us all to, she and Irabeth suddenly began praising my righteousness and my good influence on the other three. I saw Midnight's smile freeze, and it stung me deeply when he nodded in agreement. I lost my composure a little and walked out before anyone noticed. Just not fast enough for Dae, who came after me. He pulled me into his arms and said directly, 'From my experience, I can tell you that everything will be easier if you finally tell him how you feel.'
I didn't realize that the two of them had already seen it so clearly. But it felt incredibly good to be able to talk to someone about it and shed a few tears now and then. I still didn't tell Midnight, I was totally convinced that he wouldn't return my feelings and I was too afraid of driving a wedge between us again.
Two months later, I was taken away. When he suddenly showed up three days later, I didn't know whether to cry out of happiness or despair that I had put him in such a situation. That time was hard.
I felt so helpless. I was afraid of what would happen if someone discovered him and that I would not be powerful enough to protect him. But I couldn't let him go either.
Until that day when I gathered all the strength I had left and tried to send him away. But he refused, and then I finally realized why he stayed with me.
That day I held him in my arms for the first time and I will never let him go again.
Midnight is the kindest, most loving and gentle creature I have ever met. He gives me a perfection that I could never achieve on my own.
If I am to be the one to fulfill this prophecy, it will only be because he is by my side.
It would be better if no one ever dared to come between us again. I can promise that I am no longer helpless or powerless in any way."

Alright—I feel like this will be a bit long since I have a lot to cover as your blog is a divergent blog, so sorry in advance. This is for the honest opinion of my portrayal meme. I honestly can’t remember what I have said and haven’t, so bear with me if some things are repeated.
So, to start things off, it’s so fascinating that you write Tsuna as a female, so that automatically makes her interesting from the start. I do recall saying that I appreciate the fact that I can write a Haru where she’s never fallen in love with Tsuna and that’s so—refreshing to me. It allows me to explore a different kind of Haru that makes it very fun for me, so exploring more of the verse with your Tsuna has a lot of my attention and interest.
It’s very interesting to see the way Haru has changed with the way I may portray her TYL normally because of the fact she grew up as Tsu-chan’s childhood friend and she didn’t have a one-sided crush with Tsuna. To have the two girls have a stronger friendship than they did in canon (likely because of the awkwardness around her in canon derived from her love for him, which is very fair) may seem like a small detail, but it actually means a lot to me. I don’t have that much experience with writing Tsuna’s on this blog. I’m sure there are many reasons for why that is the case, but the important factor is that it’s pretty rare for me to write with a Tsuna who sticks around, so I’ve been enjoying my time. I apologize if it ever doesn’t seem so on my end.
From out interactions, Tsu-chan is a strong and independent woman who aspires to do many and great things. She’s not the only female don that existed in the Vongola and she’s going to prove that even if she wasn’t exactly born into the mafia like the most of them were- she’s not any less valid or capable. She can do the hard task of trying to also bring the Vongola back to their original roots by bringing more of Giotto’s ideals back. One would say she’s a pacifist, but she’s also willing to resort to whatever means if it means she’ll protect her family and friends. She’s not so pacifistic that she’ll believe in something like ‘the power of words will triumph at the end of the day’. She will take charge and use whatever means necessary to complete her goal.
While she had to give up on some things she wanted of her life, she manages to find ways to incorporate some of them into her life as a mafiosi, like her side businesses and her sense of fashion. She’s supportive towards Haru and the opposite is also true, with Haru supporting Tsuna with all her life goals. She may be affiliated with the Vongola, she’s still that part of the past that links to a time Tsuna didn’t know about the Mafia. She can trust Haru to take care of the kids who were displaced for one reason for another, and Haru can trust that Tsuna is doing her best to clean the most disgusting parts of the mafia to make things a better place for everyone overall. It’s not an easy task so Haru always worries Tsuna is overworking herself and doesn’t have anyone to confide in, to be weak to.
In some of our interactions, it’s implied that Tsuna takes the time to visit when she can and check in on Haru and the kids. This shows that regardless of how far they are from each other, Tsuna’s heart has never forgotten or left Namimori. There is that tenderhearted part of Tsuna that we all love of our favorite tuna fish (lol). From the one thread we have, it’s important to me that Tsu-chan doesn’t question the fact that Haru will try to fight anyone who has taken one of her kids. Supports her and is just ‘hey, I’ll join you.’ The level of support and trust that they have with each other is phenomenal. I’ve never written Tsuna, but on a instinctual level, I feel like canon Tsuna would have tried telling her to standby and wait for them to deal with it. I can promise you Haru would threaten to fight all of them if they dared to tell her to stay back.
So, another reason why I think the way I do—I have to borrow your interactions with some other muses that I’ve observed. The way that Tsuna can have jovial and somewhat teasing interactions with other muses such as Mukuro is an extremely crucial point of diversion from canon Tsuna. As we probably know, KHR originally started as a gag manga, and was intended to be a oneshot but it got a lot of attention so it became a full-fledged series. Tsuna’s role for the gags is the ‘Tsukomi’ or the receiver who then retorts to what the boke is saying, usually. The thing with the Tsukomi role is that you are more of a passive role, so you can’t really say much until the boke speaks and says something stupid or unorthodox. If the boke is silent, the tsukomi has less power to be funny as their power comes from responding to the boke. You can also see this in his personality where he’s more passive and he tends to sideline himself more in the presence of others.
Yes, he has his moments where he takes the stand and takes charge, especially in the final arc, but at large, his personally is such that he will rather be in the back and have everyone else take the center stage. He is overly polite and passive, so it gives people the impression that he’s submissive. Your Tsuna’s ability to tease and maybe poke a little bit of fun with jovial jabs deviates from the passive nature canon Tsuna has. She’s more open and willing to be upfront with others. Her ability to do so also shows a level of drive and activeness that canon Tsuna struggled to exhibit in canon. From this, it gives the air that Tsu-chan is more confident and proud than canon Tsuna is (I understand this is an unfair comparison since we never saw TYL Canon Tsuna but shhhh).
Just from a seemingly small change, it can change the entire vibe of a character. A person who is more upfront, confident, and proud, is more willing to accept others for who they are. A person may be more willing to allow others to do something ‘dangerous’ because they’re that confident that things will be fine. They’re self-assured in themselves and know that those they are around will be the same. If Haru has shown that she’s confident in herself, Tsu-chan will ALSO believe in her. Canon Tsuna, is a bit less self-assured, and he does have a bit of the ideals of the roles of women and men ingrained into him. It is a very common Asian mindset so I don’t blame him for that, and Amano was a bit more rampant about that—which is a common complain people have of KHR. I don’t say this as a jab towards him, but I say this to point out the key differences between them.
Tsu-chan would understand how it feels to have your efforts to be discredited, or to know how frustrating it would be for people to summarize you to the bare minimum because of your gender. So, she’s probably more inclined to BELIEVE than anything else.
When you take into consideration her upbringing, and the other small differences that come about because she’s a woman, it makes sense why her personality deviates from the original Tsuna, and how with those changes, she naturally feels more dominant and assured than canon Tsuna. She’s a powerful force to be reckoned with.
BASICALLY, taking into consideration everything to her backstory and everything, she’s portrayed in a way that makes sense for her. She may be different from canon Tsuna, but her core traits remain, so you can tell who she is to be. You’re doing such a great job with her.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Neo and her amazing essay about my portrayal of female Tsuna.
I am speechless. ♥
You know exactly why she is the way she is, and what influenced her. You even understand why it deviated a bit from the canon. I am touched that you understand my portrayal. I'm amazed (in a good way) at what image you've formed of her based on all our interactions and interactions with others.
I always like to hear opinions and criticism about my portrayal because that's part of it too.
I am very pleased by your words because roleplayers had never seen my female Tsuna like this in the past.
Thank you. This is just another motivation to keep writing Tsuna. I'm glad she brought a breath of fresh air to roleplay for you too, because she's different from the canonical Tsuna. ♥
By the way, if there are any posts that I haven't replied to, feel free to send me the links because it often happens that I lose something or it doesn't show me the notification. It's not showing me notifications at all right now. I try to check them out manually. This is how several people have already sent me our unfinished roleplays. Not to mention that recently some of my asks have also disappeared. So feel free and send me what I missed. Tumblr is a bit chaotic for me. (n__n)

Hello! Can I pls have a Pokemon (only gen 1,3 or 6 tho since Ik the most about them 😭) matchup? I'm an Asian who uses she/they pronouns and an Aquarius and INTJ. My sexuality is bi demiromantic. I'm 5'0 with tan skin, black hair, brown eyes and glasses.I'm bilingual. People say I look intimidating and unapproachable since I don't smile or talk much around strangers but I try my best to be polite and nice.I'm very introverted and shy. I'll need to warm up to people but when I do, I will surprisingly be energetic.
I consider myself a fair, open minded and laid back person most of the time. I like to seek out my friends' company when bored. I either ask them to do something wholesome or something they are afraid of with me. I'm down to do anything with my friends. I'm hardworking if its something that interests me. I'm very creative but can't seem to make my ideas into reality mostly due to lack of resources or motivation. I'm kind of a pacifist but I will fight if pushed too far or my loved ones are endangered. I'm a pretty patient person. Incase if its needed my pokemon team would be Swampert,Snorlax, Salamance, Gengar, Gardevoir and Absol.
My friends describe my  sense of humor as dark and cursed. I can be mischievous and chaotic but still reliable and smart. My hobbies are baking, gaming, art, true crime and supernatural stuff. I express my love with gifts and quality time more than physical affection but I'm ok with PDA. I tend to bottle up my sadness and anger. If I'm mad I get VERY snappy and moody. If I'm sad then I'll rant about it. My ideal type is someone who I can trust with my life, someone I've known for a long time, very respectful of my boundaries and protective. Sorry if its too much info. Thanks in advance and stay safe💗
Thank you for your patience!
I think I’d pair you up with Calem!
It might take a little while for you to warm up to each other— Calem is definitely polite and affable, but he seems to have trouble making new friends on his own. Since you’re very similar in that regard, the two of you probably just exchange small talk for the first few months, shifting awkwardly when your friends have left you alone together; it isn’t until Shauna practically takes you both by the hand and leads the conversation that the two of you really begin talking. Calem is actually quite relieved once you’re used to him and start talking of your own volition— he has trouble leading casual conversation, but he has no trouble responding when you speak.
The fact that you’re fairly laidback would balance really well with how hard he works himself; Calem very easily gets stuck in his own head, and he’s a desperate perfectionist, so it’s very easy for him to just get lost and spiral out. Since you’re one of the few people that sees him as him instead of an extension of his family name, he’s much more likely to listen to you— and once he’s snapped out of his workaholic trance, he’s both apologetic and grateful you had to bring him to his sense again.
In turn, I think Calem would be pretty good at keeping you on track; it does take a lot of discipline to be able to commit yourself to your goals and actually get somewhere with your dreams, so thankfully you’ve got him by your side. To most other people, Calem is definitely a bit blunt, not mincing his words— but since he knows you so well, he’s learned how to support you. If you need to talk out ideas, he’s more than willing to listen, ask questions as you pinpoint details; if you need help getting your hands on something for a project, he’s happy to help you with that too. Calem is always available to try one of your newest recipes, to give you feedback on a sketch or a painting, to pick up the second controller if you need a player two. He knows he’s not very good at voicing his feelings, so he hopes he can just show you instead.

JJK 149. Mai Zen'in
It’s fascinating for a battle shounen manga to have a character like Mai who is diametrically opposed to the ideals of strength and self-improvement that are usually valourized in this genre. Mai doesn't die because she can’t get stronger, but because she doesn’t want to. And although that attitude is evidently incompatible with an existence within the world and situation she found herself in, there is no negative value judgment imposed by the narrative itself condemning her unwillingness to unlock her "full potential".
Tumblr media
JJK has always foregrounded competing worldviews and how individuals’ different perspectives and values can either coexist or conflict with others. Maki's ambition to transform the Zen'in clan vs. the Zen'ins' regressive conservatism; Gojou's vision for the jujutsu world vs. the higher ups' ; Yuji's "I want to save everyone" vs. Megumi's "I choose who I save" ; Mei Mei's "I'm on the side of money" vs. Nanami leaving a lucrative job to save people out of compassion, and so on.
So it's particularly impressive that, while operating within the shounen genre, the story continues to maintain its respect for this ideological diversity by preserving Mai’s belief in her own worldview to the very end. Simply put, not everyone wants to become powerful even if they may have the potential to. Not everyone wants to live a life of violence, and not everyone wants to be a saviour for others at the direct expense of their own sanity.
It would be perhaps the more optimistic yet potentially oppressive narrative move to demand for Mai's character to undergo a transformation from a character who resists the shounen ideals to one who accepts them. This type of transformation would by no means be inherently negative; I'm definitely not saying that going down this path would have been bad for Mai's character or for the story. But it would succumb to a temptation to move towards a kind of 'sameness' rather than difference in its depiction of ways of acting in the world. I think Mai's ending is all the more striking because it resists this temptation.
Tumblr media
Because I think that the more typical - and optimistic - development arc for Mai would have been for her to learn how to be willing to become stronger as a sorcerer and eventually fight alongside Maki.
But instead, Mai never ends up conforming to those dominant values of strength and ambition. Neither is she subjected to the kind of development traditionally favoured by the genre that are along the lines of, 'you just need to believe in yourself and work hard' -- because if we really think about it, often times a lot of feats in shounen are accomplished by sheer willpower and self-conviction. (JJK is not always an exception to that trope, nor is it necessarily a bad thing!). Mai had previously firmly stated her opposing point of view, and this essential attitude never changes even when we perhaps most expect it to.
In this situation, rather than working to improve her technique to create stronger objects without it costing her life, Mai passively accepts that her weakness will require self-sacrifice.
It’s a fatalistic attitude resulting from having never wanted to partake in a life of violence and hardship.
Tumblr media
On the one hand, inflexibility and the inability to adapt are not exactly commendable traits; Mai is certainly fixed in her resignation and refusal to work towards her full potential as a sorcerer. On the other hand, to use Nanami's words, being a sorcerer is shit. All the suffering and regret in the story so far has only continued to reaffirm that sentiment. So we also can't fully condemn Mai for rejecting that way of life to the extent that she would rather sacrifice herself than to push forward to have her own "shounen power-up" moment. Because the aftermath of that would be a path likely filled with death, brutality, and suffering.
Tumblr media
The wish to live a normal life is a legitimate and valid one. In an ideal world, her clan would not punish her for it. In an ideal world, opposing perspectives, especially ordinarily pacifist ones like Mai's, would be allowed to exist. Mai having to die because she was unable to escape or adapt to the ruthlessness of the jujutsu world exemplifies how cruel that world is. Mai's persistence in her wish for a normal life, and her "failure" as a sorcerer is not her failure at all; her death reflects a failure of the violently rigid jujutsu clan culture.
In this light, it is all the more tragic that Mai's death was entirely preventable, and fated not by the inevitability of actual "fate", but rather entirely by a radically traditionalist clan system.
Tumblr media
At the same time, as I mentioned earlier, I find it impressive for Gege to have allowed Mai to hold onto her values. Just as Maki has always stayed true to her dreams of overturning the Zen'in clan by becoming a powerful sorcerer, Mai has always stayed true to her resistance to that dark and difficult path. From a writing perspective, I think it's interestingly respectful to Mai's character in that way. It's also for this reason that I consider this chapter to be a worthy good-bye to Mai, as she is faithful to her own way of being in the world until the end. It may not conform to the demands of the optimistic self-improvement narrative generally preferred by shounen, but it is a valid perspective, and it is never depicted to be 'lesser than' or 'inferior to' the shounen narrative.
I'm always interested in stories in which there is a genuine dialogue of a diversity of voices, each with their own perspectives and viewpoints even as they conflict with each other - or in other words stories that prioritize 'difference' over 'sameness' in ways of being, thinking, and acting. It's not necessarily uncommon - most if not all stories will feature different character motivations within a given cast. But I think JJK does this particularly well in a particularly convincing way, and 149 is further confirmation of this for me.

Finally, it is notable that Mai herself seems to acknowledge this sentiment. She may have been unwilling to imagine a stronger future version of herself, which is opposite to the advice Gojou had given Megumi if he wanted to reach his full potential. But she died for the sake of believing in the stronger future version of Maki, and this is how she is victorious even in death. All the way to the end, Mai had her way of viewing and acting in the world in her individual way, and Maki had hers; importantly, Mai ends up encourages this difference. Right after she states that "You are me, and I am you", that sameness is undercut when Mai immediately after points to their contrasting motivations:
Tumblr media
Mai ultimately encourages Maki to live in the way that Maki wants to live - to the fullest potential of her power and the fullest potential for her capacity to force change upon a corrupt system. Before, Mai had resented Maki for moving on without her ("why didn't you fall down the hole with me?") - she resented how Maki couldn't be the same as her in how she viewed the world. In her final chapter, Mai conversely acknowledged that she herself could never see the world exactly the same as Maki.
Therein lies the cornerstone of her character development; before, she resented that difference between them for those twofold reasons. In the last moments of her life, she no longer resents Maki for moving on without her; she encourages her to move forward into the future. It is of course undeniably tragic, as it must be a future without Mai. And no amount of power gained from such a loss could ever be consolation for that tragedy.
It is fitting, then, that Mai's final message to Maki is full of despair -- yet it is also not without hope. In the interplay between 'construction' and 'destruction', it is ironic yet poetic that Mai wished for her object-construction technique's final and greatest creation to be used to destroy - indeed, to "destroy everything". There is undoubtedly despair both in that command, and in Maki's drive to destruction when she emerges from that room. But somewhere, somehow, there must also be the hope that that destruction will be in the service of "construction", of creating a better future for others, even if it is too late for it to be a future in which they can live in together.

Frev writing prompts, Part 5! Seriously, I have no idea how I keep coming up with these. 😅
36. The protagonist was born and raised by a troupe of traveling performers. For as long as they can remember, they have been traveling from place to place, never staying anywhere for a few days at most.
The protagonist’s father is the troupe’s flutist and singer while their mother is a puppeteer so the youth has always had a passion for the performing arts and dreams of traveling all over Europe with their big happy family.
Nicknamed “L’œillet rouge” (The Red Carnation) by the troupe as an homage to their father’s favorite flower, the protagonist enjoys playing the flute and singing with their father, as well as putting on puppet shows with their mother.
With a song in their heart, a smile on their face and their father’s precious flute in their hands, the protagonist travels all over the country with their family, entertaining the people of France but never settling down and they like it that way.
But one day, while the troupe is staying in Paris and putting on a rather satirical puppet show which mocks the current regime, the protagonist’s parents are suddenly arrested by the police. Apparently, the father is a dangerous rebel while the mother is guilty of having sheltered said rebel years ago.
The protagonist is convinced that there must be a mistake and decides to rescue their parents with the help of all the other troupe members, including the protagonist’s older maternal half-brother and their maternal grandparents, all of whom are eager to help.
The time is limited and the rescue will be far from easy, but the protagonist will be damned if they don’t at least try to succeed. So, with that in mind, the young flutist and their family start to concoct the rescue plan...
37. Rumors have it that people who have been murdered tend to become vengeful ghosts and haunt their killers to exact revenge.
This is certainly true for Robespierre and his supporters. Unable to find peace, their souls are brought back to the realm of the living, seeking revenge on the Thermidorians.
This particular circumstance is quite convenient for the protagonist, a spirit medium who summons these ghosts and intends to use them as tools in their plan to torment the Thermidorians and avenge their family that got massacred in Lyon, skillfully using the revolutionaries’ restlessness and anger to achieve their goal.
However, soon certain events make the protagonist question the morality of using these spirits. Perhaps the protagonist is no better than their enemies if they are not above manipulating others. Perhaps there’s another way… Nonsense! It’s not manipulation if the other people also want revenge and are dead anyway...right?
38. The heroine of the story, like many other girls of the noble class, grew up and got her education in a convent in her hometown of Caen, France.
As a result of this upbringing, the young woman is rather used to a sheltered life, her idealism is through the roof and she is rather nostalgic about her life in the convent and her friendship with another noble girl, Charlotte Corday, who is the heroine’s closest friend and confidant.
At first the noblewoman wants to stay out of the events of the revolution, dreaming of taking her vows as a nun and living a quiet life in the convent, but those plans are abruptly thwarted by Corday, whose influence slowly gets the naïve heroine deeper and deeper into the mess that is the French Revolution.
Being idealistic, easily trusting, quiet, pacifistic and devoutly Catholic, the heroine initially follows her best friend’s lead and trusts her judgement since Corday is the closest thing to a big sister that the young woman has.
However, when Corday tries to convince her to kill Jean-Paul Marat and end the revolution, the heroine starts having mixed feelings about her friend’s decisions, despite being angry with Marat for her own personal reasons. After all, her faith teaches to forgive, not to judge and take revenge, so now the heroine must make a choice.
Will she betray her best friend and ruin the plan or will she cast aside her morals to help Corday and, presumably, the rest of the country? Is Marat really the bloodthirsty monster that Corday says he is? Is there another way to deal with the situation at hand without any casualties? And what consequences will the main character face for the choice she makes?
39. The main character is an illegitimate son of a Russian noble and a serf (yes, serfs were still a thing in Russia) who got taken in by his father as a “ward” and sent to France to get a good education, as everything French was very fashionable in the Russian Empire at the time.
There, in Paris of 1789, the young man absorbs all the knowledge he can, learning languages, reading the prominent books written in the Enlightenment era and even befriends a man by the name of Maximilien de Robespierre, a lawyer from Arras and the representative of Artois.
Considering that Robespierre was almost born illegitimate, he is the first person in a long time who doesn’t judge the protagonist for the circumstances of his birth and accepts him for him. Excited to be accepted at long last, the young man begins to look up to Robespierre as a mentor and an older brother of sorts, quickly absorbing his ideas and supporting him.
So, naturally, when the revolution begins and the young man finds himself trapped in Paris, he joins the revolutionaries to fight alongside his mentor.
Thus begin his adventures.
40. The protagonist is a child of criminals forced to survive on the streets after losing their parents until they’re eventually taken in by a seemingly sympathetic Jacobin, given a new name, a home and a fresh start in life. The protagonist essentially becomes the revolutionary’s ward and their guardian even takes them to the Convention so the youth can observe the meetings.
All seems good for the protagonist...almost too good to be true. But eventually certain events force the protagonist to wonder if their new guardian truly cares about them.
Could it be that their Jacobin guardian has some sinister motives? And will the protagonist be able to move away from their “bad” heritage and live an honest life at last?
41. Barras is in love. Again.
Head over heels over a pretty servant he recently hired and she even seems to like her employer back. Even her suspiciously strong resemblance to a certain Jacobin who got executed in 1794 isn’t a dealbreaker for Barras and the smitten man writes said resemblance off as a coincidence.
The other Thermidorians, especially Fouché, are not that blind and they fear that a relative of that particular executed man is here to seek revenge. Fouché decides to investigate this seemingly ordinary and harmless young servant, suspecting that she has quite a few skeletons in her closet.
Are these suspicions going to be confirmed or is Fouché simply being paranoid?
42. Thermidor has just taken place. The Jacobins are imprisoned and it seems like the traitors are going to win. All hope is lost for the Jacobins and their enemies rejoice.
But little do the Thermidorians know that by betraying and imprisoning all the men who stand in their way, they have just acquired new enemies - women.
Revolutionary women.
Wives, daughters, sisters, nieces, goddaughters, lovers, wards, friends and sympathizers of the captured Jacobins who are not going to sit back and give up.
Seeing how bleak things are, these women, led by a mysterious woman who conceals her face behind a mask and calls herself “Citoyenne Liberté” (Citizen Liberty), decide to rescue their imprisoned loved ones from the clutches of the Thermidorians.
They’re running out of time, they’re outnumbered and not equipped with proper weapons, but that is hardly a problem they can’t solve and they’re willing to fight against the odds regardless of the obstacles.
After all, Heaven hath no fury like a woman scorned, which is what the Thermidorians are about to learn the hard way.
43. A singer and actress who used to perform in Venice flees to France after a scandal demolishes her reputation. Having only her voice and her acting to make ends meet, for a while she tries to find work in Paris but barely makes enough money for her and her son to survive.
Her only friend and confidant in this bleak situation is a future revolutionary who happens to admire the heroine’s singing and strongly believes that she deserves better. He even bonds with the actress’s toddler son and is willing to step up and become a proper father figure for the child.
Thanks to said revolutionary, the heroine’s life begins to change for the better and she decides to settle down in Paris. Even when she learns about the approaching revolution, she chooses to stay in the only place where she feels like she can belong.
What’s more, the actress finally finds her new purpose in life. She too can fight for the cause of her new partner and his friends, in her own way.
How is a woman whose main talents are acting and singing supposed to be able fight, you may ask? Why, by becoming a spy for the Jacobins and the singing voice of the revolution of course!
And she might just be able to prove that anyone can be a revolutionary and one doesn’t need to be a fighter nor an orator to help a noble cause.
44. A female servant working for Georges Danton has to practically flee the house of her employer after the latter crosses all the possible boundaries while drunk.
Fearing for her safety and profoundly traumatized by the event, the servant is found and taken in by a seemingly sympathetic man who sees Danton as a sworn enemy for his own reasons. Considering that both have a grudge against Danton and the man is a journalist, he and the servant team up to bring Danton down.
Will they succeed? Why does the journalist hate Danton? And is his desire to aid the heroine genuine?
45. Paris, France. The revolution is in full swing.
The Committee of Public Safety has to deal with multiple issues, the ongoing war is depleting France’s resources and the situation seems dire.
What’s more, a new newspaper, “La Voix de la Justice” (The Voice of Justice), began to circulate in the city. While this particular fact isn’t that surprising by itself, the thing that sets this newspaper apart from the rest is the fact that its author is anonymous.
Nobody knows who writes this newspaper but the articles are quite good and this mysterious person has already exposed several people who were using the Reign of Terror as an excuse for their atrocities.
Naturally, all these details catch the attention of Jean-Paul Marat and Camille Desmoulins, two of the most prominent journalists of that time. Intrigued by this new newspaper and its author, the two revolutionaries team up to track that person down, if only to find out who they are and thank them for helping their cause.
46. The protagonist grew up believing that Robespierre is single handedly responsible for the execution of their beloved aunt and uncle and, as a result, believes that the man deserved to be executed for that betrayal.
However, the protagonist is soon forced to question their judgment when their older cousin, Horace Desmoulins, reaches out to them in a letter, inviting them to Paris and claiming that he found evidence proving that in actuality Robespierre attempted to save Camille and Lucile Desmoulins, Horace’s parents.
Although the protagonist is skeptical at first, since Horace has always defended his godfather, they are still intrigued by their cousin’s invitation and leaves Guise to join Horace in his investigation.
Together, the two cousins are both determined to clear the names of Horace’s parents and figure out what role Robespierre actually played in the family tragedy.
47. The five protagonists are all members of a heavy metal band whose name and songs are an homage to the French Revolution.
Previously little more than a quintet of college misfits determined to rehabilitate this particular event and tell the real story through music, the band finally starts gaining popularity after a successful concert at a music festival in Marseille.
And then things take a turn for the unexpected when the band gets into an accident on their way home, only to wake up in Revolutionary France. Naturally, they now must survive and return home but this adventure might just become the inspiration they needed so much...
48. After the protagonist’s father leaves them and their blind mother behind to move to Paris, the protagonist is naturally upset. Year after year, they wait for their father to return but he never does.
In 1789, after losing their mother to an illness, the protagonist decides that enough is enough and travels to Paris to confront their father. To their disgust, they soon find out that their father is now remarried, with a new family and quite rich while the protagonist is basically a pauper. Moreover, the father seems to have joined the revolutionaries, which is something that the protagonist cannot approve of either.
Now the protagonist wants to make sure that their father faces the music for his betrayal so they contact a journalist who is about to expose said father in an article.
A story of one of his enemies leaving behind his first family will be a nice addition to the already existing accusations of corruption, but the protagonist and the journalist soon realize that they are not immune to the consequences of their actions either and this article might cause more damage than they think it will.
49. (A reimagining of Aladdin) After their flute is broken beyond repair, the protagonist goes to a pawn shop to find a replacement for their practice.
It is there that an old ivory flute catches their attention so the protagonist purchases it, has it professionally restored and decides to keep it, ignoring the warning of the shopkeeper that it’s cursed and the suspiciously low price.
The protagonist is a skeptic and never believed in magic, curses and other occult things.
That is until they play the flute for the first time and a man poofs into existence like a genie from a lamp. Introducing himself as Louis Antoine de Saint-Just, he informs the protagonist that he used to be the owner of the flute but is now trapped in it because of black magic.
Despite their skepticism, the protagonist cannot logically explain anything that’s going on but wants to help so they strike a deal with Saint-Just - he is going to help the protagonist win over their love interest in exchange for freedom.
As for how the spell is supposed to be broken, the protagonist is completely clueless but their mysterious neighbor with a knack for alchemy and the occult might be able to help…
50. Lyon, France.
The future Thermidorians mercilessly massacre innocent people and rule with an iron fist. Just today they massacred several prominent noble families of the city for defying them.
However, what the tyrants do not know is that they didn’t massacre everyone, for the daughters of the executed nobles are currently living at a convent to get education, as was common back then.
Upon receiving the tragic news and fearing that these young girls are going to end up on the death list, two nuns, the heroines of the story, come up with a plan to escort the girls out of the city and get them to a different location where they would be safe.
The plan is daring but the risk is too high to sit there and do nothing. Will the nuns be able to keep their students safe?

A (Not so defensive) Defense of Bo-Katan
Okay! So, I have a hot take that, if I’m being totally honest, don’t know how hot it really is. But I like Bo-Katan Kryze. There, I said it. I couldn’t really tell you why, objectively speaking I wouldn’t say she’s really a good person. Like, at all. But I still like her.
Here’s why (kind of):
I respect her. That’s really what I can attribute liking her to. Respect. I respect her drive (it’s about power, we stay hungry we devour, etc.), I respect her determination and tenacity, and I do sort of agree with her when it comes to Satine’s rule. I do not agree with her methods for getting her point across, but I get where she’s coming from (author’s note: this is coming from my fairly limited knowledge of Mandalorian culture, and there is a fair chance that my understanding takes in legends, regardless of whether I’m trying exclusively to work in canon or not).
I feel like Bo-Katan has tied so much of her identity to Mandalore and the darksaber and securing Mandalore, and that makes me so sad for several reasons.
1) I think she wants to bring an era that Manadalore hasn’t seen in her lifetime. Even when Satine was ruling with her ultra-pacifist ideals, there was Death Watch and admittedly Bo-Katan herself opposing her. Even if Bo-Katan will not want to admit the extent of her part in the turbulence surrounding the Mandalorians, I think it ultimately came from a desire from Bo-Katan to give the Mandalorians what she sees as the most stable way of Mandalorian life, which leads me into my next reason.
2) She wants a revival of what she thinks is traditional Mandalorian culture. Since that way of life worked for so long, it seems to be the only way to bring back Mandalore as it once was. Uber-Pacifism, while it was sort of working, wasn’t true to a lot of the values that Mandalorians had kept previously, and while a war-lord fueled Mandalore isn’t great either, I do think that it is relatively closer to was Mandalorians used to be - a culture who was certainly violent, but not without cause or honor. That’s why she wants the darksaber so badly - it’s the traditional way to legitimize someone’s rule, and without it Bo-Katan couldn’t consider herself to be the Mand’alor, nor could she have her contemporaries do the same. And though she has accepted it without winning it in a fight, that was only with the blessing of other Mandalorians.
3) Bo-Katan wants to get Mandalore back for her sister, while simultaneously surpassing her. Bo-Katan, appropriately, has very little right to mourn her sister, given that she and Satine were at odds during Satine’s reign. But revenge is a good motivator, and to me, it sort of comes off like ‘no one can do ___ to my sibling except for me’ but in this case it’s more about deposing her sister or murdering her or some such thing. She wants to take the throne for Clan Kryze, and to keep it longer and more assuredly than her sister, as well as giving a huge middle finger to all of those people who she did not deem worthy to be Mand’alor.
I’m not sure if that makes any sense, but it makes me so sad, because Bo keeps on missing. She has the darksaber, gives it away because she did not get it legitimately. She hunts Moff Gideon until she finds him and the darksaber, but it ends up going to some guy who’s from a sect of Mandalorians that she finds to be extremist. Every time that Bo-Katan has had a chance at getting what she wants, she is thwarted by extenuating circumstances or her own principles. Even when she held the title in the Imperial Era, she was jolted out of her position and had to start all over. And she didn’t keep the darksaber when Sabine and Ursa gave it to her thanks to the Great Purge of Mandalore.
And while I do think that Bo-Katan shouldn’t really have the darksaber again (I don’t think that she would do what she thinks she would be doing), I can respect that she tries so hard, and continues to try. Her methods are mad sketchy (we do not stan Death Watch in this house), but I still (to a point) agree with her principles, and I see where she’s coming from.
I don’t think that she will ever untangle herself or what she thinks of herself from the darksaber, Mandalore, and being Mand’alor. Both because she doesn’t want to, and because she has been doing it for so long that her entire adult life, and even some of her adolescence has been consumed with this objective. Never mind that it ties into Mandalorians being intensely Mandalorian-focused, caring primarily about their fellow Mandalorians and the Way (and its variations).
Essentially: I think Bo-Katan is complicated, and though my thoughts on her character and motivations may be incomplete at best, I still don’t hate her. She’s honorable and principled, and she sticks to those principles with an almost fanatical zeal. She shouldn’t get to be Mand’alor, though. I don’t think that after she has done so much damage that she should get what she wants. Her unwavering attachment to her ideals has resulted in terrorism, so she’s not good. But I respect her.
My source for a lot of the material in this post comes from this article about Bo-Katan on Wookieepedia: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Bo-Katan_Kryze#Biography

Can I pls have a pjo matchup? I'm an Asian who uses she/they pronouns and an Aquarius and INTJ. My sexuality is bi demiromantic. I'm 5'0 with tan skin, black hair, brown eyes and glasses.I'm bilingual. People say I look intimidating and unapproachable since I don't smile or talk much around strangers but I try my best to be polite and nice.I'm very introverted and shy. I'll need to warm up to people but when I do, I will surprisingly be energetic.
I consider myself a fair, open minded and laid back person. I like to seek out my friends' company when bored. I either ask them to do something wholesome or something they are afraid of with me. I'm down to do anything with my friends. I'm hardworking if its something that interests me. I'm very creative but can't seem to make my ideas into reality. If I'm not good at something, I tend to put it on hold until I get motivated again. I'm kind of a pacifist but I will fight if pushed too far or my loved ones are endangered.
My friends describe my  sense of humor as dark and cursed. I can be mischievous and chaotic but still reliable and smart. My hobbies are baking, gaming, art, true crime and supernatural stuff. I express my love with gifts and quality time more than physical affection but I'm ok with PDA. I'm gonna be emotionally unavailable at 1st. My fav kind of date is a picnic.A negative trait of mine would be barely taking initiative at 1st due to fear of rejection. My ideal type is someone who I can trust with my life, someone I've known for a long time, very respectful of my boundaries and protective. Sorry if its too much info. Thanks in advance and stay safe💗
Of course you can have a matchup! And please, never worry about giving too much info. The more info I have, the more detailed I can make this :)
I ship you with…
Piper McLean
Piper is canonically shown to be very patient with people, so she definitely has no problem waiting until you’ve warmed up to her.
Loves your dark humor.
Much like you, Piper is a pacifist who will not hesitate to throw a punch when pushed too far/when her loved ones are in danger.
I feel like she would be the one to ask you out, but she would be very casual about it. She just asks “hey, so, would you like to go out some time? No hard feelings if not”
That first date would be a picnic date. She wouldn’t even know that that would be your ideal first date, she just loves picnics.
I can imagine the two of you having gaming dates. These are more casual than the picnic dates and usually end with the two of you crying because you’re both laughing so hard.
Piper isn’t that big on PDA bc a lot of people recognise her, as the daughter of Tristan McLean, but she will gladly take your hand when you’re both walking down the street if she knows you’re okay with it.
She loves that you motivate your friends to do something that scares them so they might get over that fear.
She loves it a little less when she lets you convince her to try something that scares her with you 😂
After finding out she was a demigod, Piper started doing more research into supernatural stuff, just in case. So she’s totally down to discuss it with you.
It’s a game the two of you play:
“Vampires: real or not?”
“Yes, but not in the Twilight way.”
Piper has this aura of tranquility around her that makes it very easy to trust her. She takes trust incredibly seriously, and she has never told someone else’s secret.
She would love that you’re bilingual and she would definitely beg you to teach her your other language. If said language isn’t French, she’ll try a trade-off: if you teach her your language, she’ll teach you French.
Together, the two of you are an entity of chaos. If you even so much as look at each other a certain way, everyone around you immediately gets wary of what you’re about to do.
Be prepared to have her occasionally steal your glasses.
I hope you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for requesting, and I hope you have a wonderful day/night <3

Makoton, please stop being so paranoid about everything. I’m begging.
The yariton growled slightly, pressed behind one of the makeshift homes in an attempt to hide from an attempted ‘game’ that two scorpion helmed akumapons had tried to start with him. Not now, not ever would he ‘play nice’ with any of these demons. They were tricksters, and that fact was proven constantly by their oh-so-harmless pranks and tiny tricks here and there. This was clearly a setup to lull the tribes into a false sense of security! Two spies brought in by another demon to slowly map out all the troops in the hideout and--- wipe them out eventually! This wasn’t good, not by a long-shot.
Makoton wasn’t the only one worried about the potential threats this could bring! He had asked other zigotons in the hideout about it as well from time to time, but they always leaned back that all the leaders in this area were fine with it all! As if. Calle was overly optimistic, Gong was, in his mind, a hypocrite and probably unfit to be a general any longer, and--- and even Spiderton had disagreed with him! Of all the nonsensical things that could happen, having the kibaton that very very outwardly disliked the akumapon general had even stated that ‘he’s not much of a threat here’.
It didn’t matter, he’d keep bringing attention to it, just to soil any plots of relaying any information back to the Dark Heroes or that-- that star. If one eye was kept on them at all times, they’d have to stay pacifist in the hideout, lest anyone else catch on to their ploys. Demons from the underworld and two tribes vying to just survive weren’t a good mix.
...Even if it was simply Kharma’s fault, to some extent, the fact they remained there and continued to fight only proved they deserved to remain there. It was easy enough to rationalize...If he didn’t think too hard about it. That morality was out of the question when it came to the possible end of the world here.
The pittering of feet caught the zigoton’s attention, pulling him up into a defensive position. It was always best to be alert, anything could happen around here. So much more hostile and confusing than back home, so he adjusted himself accordingly. He didn’t care if it made him seem insane, he just had to keep himself and Aiton safe--- No matter the costs. No matter the opinions of others. True soldiers kept the honor of their tribe, something he was certain his two so-called generals had clearly forgotten.
“Oh! Over here!”
“Over there? Are you sure?”
Makoton’s eye squinted in annoyance, balling his fists to seem just a little more intimidating. He was well aware he was much smaller than the two akumapons as they rounded the corner to spot him, but he certainly could try to chase them off from himself.
“We found you!” It was in such perfect sync, something that creeped him out to no end, “Good hiding spot!”
“I didn’t want to be found,” He hissed back, glancing about for an opportunity to scurry off again, “I’m not playing a game with you.”
“You’re not?”
“But you’re really good at this one!”
“Yeah, we could-”
“Back off!” Makoton stepped forwards, causing the two yaripons to take a few steps back in response, confusion clear, “I don’t want anything to do with either of you. I know what you’re up to and I’m not going to let you get away with it, got it?”
“Did he find out about a prank we planned?”
“I don’t think so? Did we prank him recently?”
“I don’t remember that.”
Listening to their constant chatter caused the zigoton to twitch slightly. They knew very well what he meant! They just wanted to try and make him question his own ideals.
“Scram you little creeps,” He grumbled, “You know exactly what I meant. Get lost and stay out of my way.”
The two scorpion helmed yaripons exchanged glances, whispering and shrugging to eachother before giving Makoton one more questioning look with the tilt of their heads.
“Well, whatever we did...”
“We sure are sorry if it caused this much of an issue!”
The zigoton opted to cross his arms, disinterested in conversing with them any further. It wasn’t worth his time or energy to play ‘friends’ with them.
“Well um---”
“Should we find someone else?”
"Yeah! Yeah, I know someone who we could bother!”
Soon after, the duo of akumapons disappeared the way they came, scrambling off to another resident of the hideout to play ‘games’ with. He almost suspected they were trying to corner him out here, but--- that would surely give away their plans.
...He’d keep that in mind from now on though, it was always a possibility.
Can’t be too unaware around here.

The Plan and the PUNishment
“Hey there, Human.” Slowly the human turned to face the skeleton, their face was expressionless, yet somehow they conveyed surprise nonetheless. Rain was always falling in this part of Waterfall. A perpetual downpour from the cavern ceiling, and the sound of the ever flowing waterfalls was like an echoing heartbeat in the shadows. All was illuminated by the sparkling crystals which gave off a faint light like stars in an endlessly dark sky. Sans sat on a boulder near the place where the path split, echo flowers growing up and around the rocks all around him. human Human HUMAN hUmAn humAn HumaN huMan they whispered, repeating his words again and again as well as each others until the sounds once again descended into quiet meaningless noise once more. “You didn’t come,” said the human, still watching the Skeleton with their eyes that glowed red with Determination. “Why did you stop coming?” “Why did you stop killing?” Sans shot back feeling a surge of annoyance and rage that he fought back down. How dare they act like he was the one out of line after everything they’d done? For a long moment there was silence and Sans was certain that he wasn’t going to get an answer at all when the Human spoke. “After Frisk and Chara faded away, I was simply left with Determination to preserve the Underground and its inhabitants for as long as possible. That included you. As long as I kept killing, as long as I kept forcing you to fight me, you would never have the chance to talk to me, not the way you would in a neutral or pacifist run. LOVE was the only way to keep you distant. It worked, for a very long time. Then that too failed and you learned the truth. Now there is no point to killing. I will continue to reset the world after the time limit is up.” “You did it for...me?” he almost didn’t believe them. But in all they’d done, all the people they’d killed, they’d never lied. And if he believed that Frisk and Chara were gone from them... why would they lie about this? The Human nodded. “They grew to care for you. That very first time in the Underground was a Pacifist Route. They cared for all of you, both of them. Chara’s spirit as an invisible guide, and Frisk as the one with enough Determination to save everyone. It was inevitable that they would grow to care. And then they remembered why they’d come to the Mountain in the first place. A place where people were said never to return from. Just as Chara before them, Frisk had no wish to return home, and if she stayed with Toriel they would eventually find them again and make them go home. What to do? A Reset was the answer...or so they thought.” And Sans recalled what the Human had said before, about making a mistake and not knowing that only the Underground itself would Reset while the world above moved on. Even if they’d waited till the people they were hiding from were dead, the Monsters would come up into a world where they had already escaped into and then vanished from. Everyone would want answers, and Frisk hadn’t wanted to give any. “I didn’t kill at first. For a long time it was nothing but Pacifist routes for a long time. Only Flowey remembered those. Eventually the strain was too much. An adult might have lasted longer, but all you had was a child who was too frightened to think straight. Neutral runs were brutal, and once they’d begun it was easier to kill and kill and kill. It wasn’t long at all before it was total Genocide and nothing else. That’s when you started to remember things, long into the Resets. I pushed you so hard that you were determined to stop me no matter the cost, and that forced you to remember.” It all made sense. Horrible twisted sense. And none of it mattered now. What they could have done, what they should have done. Nothing could change it. Not even a Reset. Remember Remember Remember, the Echo Flowers whispered, repeating the last word the Human had said. Yeah, that was the plan. He grinned at the Human, who looked surprised. “Well that explains a few things. Thanks kid. Now, as to your question. I was off figuring a few things out. Making plans.” The Human didn’t need to know he’d spent a few weeks refusing to come out of his bedroom and wishing that he didn’t exist anymore. “We’re gonna try and make something out of all this. Since there isn’t a surface to escape to, we’re gonna try and make the Resets less of a prison. If everyone remembers then it will be as if only the world itself starts over while all the Monsters keep going. Not ideal, but its an improvement.” The Human gaped at him, their mouth hanging open. The expression was so comical that he started to laugh. “Hey, might wanna close that before something swims in and makes itself at home. That sort of thing just leaves a fishy taste in your mouth.” He laughed harder as the Human snapped their mouth shut, looking as if they didn’t know whether to laugh or frown at him. There was a rustle off in the grass and Sans was almost certain he heard a very soft “Nyeh!” of outrage. So Papyrus was listening in, was he? Hah! Served him right then, it would be his punishment for sneaking around. This thought set off another round of the giggles and it took him some time to calm down. “So, that’s our plan. You in, Kid?” After a brief moment where they appeared to be thinking, the Human nodded with a smile. It was the first true smile that Sans had seen on their face in as long as he could remember. “Yes, I will help.” they said.

Promises
Author’s Notes: The following obviously applies to my main Jedi Knight OC, Corellan Halcyon, but I feel it could apply to a great many JKs, so i’ve used gender-neutral pronouns where possible. Graphics courtesy of Wookiepedia, since i’m away from my screen captures at the moment.  The Sith Lord known as Lord Scourge wants Revenge against Vitiate, the Sith Emperor. He wants revenge for what the ancient Sith Lord did to him three hundred years ago, granting him immortality but taking from him everything that made life worth living. He wants revenge for being forced to serve as his personal executioner for all of that time. It is true that Scourge may have started down this long and arduous path out of a sort of enlightened self-interest. Vitiate, Scourge knows full-well, is a threat to the entire galaxy. He has known that from the moment he met him in person so many years ago. The Emperor is a threat to everyone who has ever lived and to everyone who ever will live. But his anger and rage at his ‘Master’ have only deepened over the centuries. Scourge is incredibly fortunate that he burns cold, one of the side-effects that he suffers as the result of Vitiate’s ritual. Were it otherwise, the Emperor would surely have sensed the profound danger that his Wrath represented, and the unrepentant traitor has no illusions as to how that confrontation would end. After the Dromund Kaas operation, Scourge claims to stay with the Defender’s crew simply to be certain that the Emperor has left them no further surprises.   But somewhere deep down, Scourge knows that this isn’t the end of it. Something of the Emperor has survived. But he also knows the Jedi Knight will be there to see the prophecy through no matter what it takes. The Knight’s resolve is the equal of Revan’s, of the Exile’s and of Scourge’s himself. Perhaps even greater.  And Scourge will therefore aid the Jedi however he can. Lord Scourge stays with the Jedi Knight because they promise him Revenge.

Fidelitin Rusk has been fighting one battle or another for his entire adult life. He is considered ruthless and sometimes even reckless by his fellow Republic soldiers, and sometimes even by his crewmates. Rusk – the third-oldest member of the crew but perhaps the oldest in practical life experience – accepts these assessments without rebuke or defense; he is what he is. His entire mindset was constructed for battles and wars that had to be won regardless of the costs. Rusk has fought so hard and for so long that there are some days when even he starts to forget why he does what he does. Indeed, there are times when Rusk disapproves of the Knight’s choices, believing that they risk too much for others and that they are far too willing to however briefly put aside the greater mission to save even a single life all while the entire galaxy stands at risk.
But deep down, the lost soldier’s only true purpose has only ever been to defend those who cannot defend themselves. He was born and raised by a colony of pacifists; that didn’t stop the Empire from annihilating his people. When he looks at the Jedi Knight – so selfless and so brave, so willing to put themselves on the line for those who need them, he is reminded of the justness of that cause. And as he wins battle after battle and that cause is served, than perhaps everything that Rusk has done has been worth it.
Sergeant Fideltin Rusk stays with the Jedi Knight because they promise him Victory.

Contrary to popular belief, Doctor Archiban Kimble knows perfectly how the rest of the galaxy, and even his closest allies aboard the Defender, view him. The man who calls himself Doc is seen as an arrogant, misogynistic, self-aggrandizing, fame-seeking, womanizing nerf-herder; a man who has left a seemingly endless line of women high and dry over the years, from Prudy and on down the list. Honestly? Doc wouldn’t have it any other way. Letting people believe that he cares so little about his personal relationships gives him a sort of shield against the things in the universe that he doesn’t want to deal with, all while still allowing him to continue to enjoy the things that keep him going.
But a man who worked his through medical school on his own merits and who has consistently chosen to serve as a combat medic on some of the most dangerous planets in the galaxy doesn’t do so just for fame, fortune and women. He could have had all that and lived in style while conducting research projects for a major pharmaceutical company back on Coruscant. No, once upon a time there was a young Archiban who set upon this path, and who did so for far nobler reasons then Doc would ever admit to anyone. Doc doesn’t know how, but for some reason, he knows that when the Jedi Knight looks at him, they see something beyond the broken healer who has put up a shell around themselves. The Knight then offers the medic an opportunity for a more meaningful existence than he could have ever dreamed of.
Doc stays with the Jedi Knight because they promise to always Help others.

Some days, Kira Carsen feels like she’s spent her entire life just trying to be true to who she is in a galaxy that seems determined to force her to become something else. She was raised on Korriban by some of the most sadistic and fanatical Sith in the galaxy, the Children of the Emperor. Every time she sees one of her ‘siblings’ returning to the dormitories with missing pieces of their memory, she cringes and pulls up her blanket around herself. And when Kira returns one night and realizes she can’t remember what happened to her, she knows that soon, there will be nothing left of her identity, either. The survival rate of acolytes who flee the Korriban academy cannot be higher than two percent. Most flee into the wilderness and, when they aren’t immediately hunted down and killed, become ‘broken’, running around in gangs, often going mad. But ten-year old Kira smuggles herself out on an outgoing cargo ship, and a week later she’s on Nar Shaddaa. She sees the suffering of people, there. Those who are unable or unwilling to kick something up to the Hutts quickly find themselves sent down. The slums where refugees congregate are almost as cruel and unforgiving as Korriban. Life is hard, but here, Kira discovers something about herself. Inexplicably, she actually cares about other people; especially the ones who take her in, and who are too weak to fend for themselves against the predators among them. Then Kira meets Bela Kiwiiks and joins the Jedi Order. Kira is unbelievably grateful to Master Kiwiiks. The Togrutta got her off Nar Shaddaa, gave her a home and a place in the galaxy, and has given her a place in the galaxy and the chance to do some good. Master Kiwiiks is like the mother that she never had. Kiwiiks is gently but firmly trying to teach Kira to be the best Jedi she can be.
But as proud as she is to be a Jedi, Kira Carsen is trying to be the best version of herself.
When she meets the Jedi Knight, everything changes very quickly. Somehow, the Knight trusts Kira against the Black Sun at the spaceport on Coruscant, and then later still when they’re hunting down Tarnis. When Master Satele instructs the Knight to take Kira in as a Padawan, Kira is elated. She follows the Knight’s lead, but she feels more like a partner than their apprentice. The Knight talks with her instead of at her, and they learn a great deal about themselves and the galaxy from each other. When Kira’s past is revealed, the Knight supports her unquestioningly; first against Valis, then against Master Jaric Kaedan and finally against the Emperor himself on Darth Angral’s dreadnaught. When Kira finally purges the Emperor from her mind, she feels the Knight reaching out to her, aiding her the entire time.
(All this comes before that night under the stars on Tython, when Kira finally jumps the Knight and they become far more than partners.)
Kira is still herself, learning and growing at her own pace. There are times she questions the Knight’s choices. She groans when they take in Doc and worries a great deal when they let Scourge join. But through it all, the Knight never asks Kira to compromise herself; they never tell her how she should feel or think about anything. The Knight simply asks Kira to trust them. And she does. The doubting Jedi questions many things; but they never question the Knight, because the Knight has never questioned her.
Kira Carsen stays with the Jedi Knight because they promise to let her be Herself , and because they let her become the best version of Herself she can.

T7-O1 – Teeseven to his friends – has served the Jedi Order for decades, and quite frankly, they would be hard pressed to find anyone who has done so with greater devotion. The astromech droid is more than content to carry messages and conduct reconnaissance for the Jedi as they continue to adjust to their home on Tython.
But for the mechanical servant, the most satisfying period of his existence was during the time he served as a companion to Jedi Master Ven Zallow, one of the greatest heroes of the Galactic Republic during the last galactic war. Zallow was a true champion of the ideals of both the Jedi and the Republic, serving with wisdom and strength. The little droid misses those days, fiercely. He knows the work he does for the Order is important, but nothing was more fulfilling than knowing ones actions have helped right a wrong or saved a life.
After ten years of waiting, Teeseven is finally partnered with another hero. This one is even kinder and more powerful than Ven Zallow; they seem to do nothing but sacrifice for others. In the Jedi Knight, Teeseven has found a champion who can save the entire galaxy. Privately, the little droid does worry. He worries that the cruelties of this galaxy will weigh on the Knight, that they will become bitter with loss, and will eventually fall short of their ideals as so many Jedi have before.  But Teeseven will be there for the Knight, no matter what. They will follow the Knight into the darkest places in the galaxy, as they blaze a light. They will be the Knight’s friend, and show the Jedi the way. In return, the Knight will help Teeseven be what the droid always wanted to be.
T7-O1 stays with the Jedi Knight because they promise him that they will always be Heroes.

How I Would Classify the Characters as Yanderes
Before I begin this post would not be possible without a very interesting and in-depth post by @thisisallthehattersfault which you can find here! The post basically breaks down the yandere archetype into little subsections which I used as classifications here. Really, I can’t recommend this post enough, so please check out that (and maybe give the account a little love while you’re at it!)
Delusional
Kamski, Delusional
A bit of a creative choice here, but considering how the delusional yandere would expect their love to actually return their affections or at least to come around to answering the feelings. This sounds eerily similar to the way one with an inflated sense of self-worth would feel entitled to others' love and affection.
Even though Kamski genuinely feels that there's no one else in your life who would fall who you would fall for instead of him, that doesn't mean he won't keep you on a tight leash. So don't plan on ever trying to leave his home or staying in contact with others.
It's difficult for Elijah to process the idea that other people are important enough to you to risk and escape attempt to see them again. Though in his mind, Elijah would attribute that irrational decision on the large change in your life rather than because you actually like another more than him.
Despite all his entitlement, though, you must know Elijah would do anything for you and would sacrifice so much to keep you happy. His fault is in his own failure to properly articulate this love, not in the lack thereof.
Ralph, Delusional
It's pretty understandable to put Ralph here, considering he's easily the most detached and unhinged character in the game itself. This fundamental disconnect with reality a tragic result of his own trauma on account of the torture he endured at the hands of humans that fateful night. The way his mind was so entirely rattled by the whole affair completely broke his mind and as a result, his actions forever.
The tragic way Ralph broke leaves him unable to really understand the world around him, to put it bluntly. When Ralph falls for you, he's so utterly in love with you he can't imagine why you wouldn't love him back. After all, you knew he'd already been through so much there's just no way someone as wonderful and lovely as you would ever try to break his heart like this.
Because of this brazen assuredness of your love, Ralph won't be afraid to openly act very cuddly and physically close to with you. Again because of the way his mind was broken so long ago, Ralph is permanently living in his own world and will do his best to provide and care for you as a husband should.
If you were to try and leave him or runaway Ralph wouldn't understand your choice, and it's certain he would be very angry about all this he wouldn't necessarily be angry at you. He wouldn't understand and, more so than anything, would feel more confused than betrayed here.
Semi-Delusional
North, Semi-Delusional
North's feelings of attraction regarding you are unexplainable and completely counter her personal creed to make all humans pay for the cruelty she endured at their hands. Though, deep within her heart of hearts, North knows there's no way she could ever bring herself to believe she hates you.
Despite being a pessimist in most aspects of her life, North can't help but feel a kind of love and warmth around you she's never known from another before. And due to this and experience with love, North can't help but go entirely overboard.
Unfortunately for her, just as the highs of her love for you are, so it goes for the lows. The fear of others getting in her way and the insecurity of losing you to another partner is also all of them were strong. Resulting and her unable to hold back when dealing with any possible rivals.
It's only once North comes down from these intense emotional outbursts that she realizes it's not wise to fall so hard for someone. Though these moments of clarity seldom last before being replaced with another intense wave of emotion.
Chloe, Semi-Delusional
She's far more grounded in reality than Ralph is. But Chloe is actually somewhat similar to Ralph on account of how unlikely it is she would feel guilty for keeping you in such a forceful and restrictive relationship.
Make no mistake. Chloe is not stupid; in fact, Chloe is somewhat unique in her own right because I'm like many characters; she is intelligent in a people-based sense. She can read people well has good intuition Etc.
A Small difference maybe but would result in her using her sharp and always attentive intuition to sense your personal boundaries and would never be so physically pushy as Ralph would.
She wants you to be comfortable around her at all times, primarily focused on getting you to genuinely love her back despite the situation and will be far less unpredictable around you as Ralph would.
Selective
Markus, Selective
So for Markus, it's challenging for him to fully understand the way he feels about you for so many reasons. Markus knows he loves you unconditionally more so than he's ever loved before he grapples heavily with the fact it's unlikely and maybe impossible for you to feel the same way. Still, Markus is ready to use his passion to determine choices.
It's difficult for him to deal with the frustrations of loving someone so much and of knowing they're the world to you only for you to not reciprocate his affections. Unfortunately for you, if you're not careful, Markus might physically take these frustrations out on you, given the opportunity.
Markus might also smother you in a way and cling to you like a life preserver. As the one thing, he knows he can keep all to himself in a world that erupts and changes every day around him. Out of all the yanderes, Markus would be one of the worst to try and escape from as he would clean the hardest and physically fight back with a passion.
The only thing which would be more dangerous than trying to escape would be trying to confide in another that you fear Marcus to be a corrupt leader. Or to try and convince a third party to try and team up with you to eliminate Markus. Then you won't be the only one to feel Markus' wrath, and the latter may be made of a public example.
Josh, Selective
It's challenging to place Josh as someone very clouded by idealism or entirely realistic because of that Josh fits comfortably in the middle. (Which is ironic considering he's supposed to represent total pacifist options, but still.)
Josh is likely someone who if he senses, there's even a chance you're beginning to show signs of coming around to returning his affections it would really trigger his inner idealist. He wouldn't help but double down on his controlling behavior and would become all the more smothering now that he believes that there is genuine love in your heart.
Overall it's safer to say Josh all around is more grounded and less intense as a yandere. Even though it's tough for him to deal with the overall intensity of his feelings, he wouldn't physically hurt you for not returning his affections.
Additionally, if you do find yourself able to overlook his darker impulses and actions and genuinely work to return his feelings, Josh might just become one of the easiest yanderes to reform into a wholesome normal relationship.
Semi-Lucid
Connor: Semi Lucid
While it makes so little sense to him to ever fully embrace and love someone who leaves and feeling so unsure and unable to process things effectively. Connor can't deny the love and warmth he feels around you and comparing that to the cold reality of the rest of his life? This leaves him the weaker.
It's hard for Connor to wholly lean into these feelings of love though considering the probability of you actually returning his feelings. Much less to the same extent as him. Because of this, he desperately fears of being discovered.
Though he's afraid of you discovering the dark reality of his true intentions, that doesn't mean he would hesitate to eliminate any possible rivals behind your back.
It's not something Connor would want to do. Still, he is likely also the kind of yandere who would hurt or physically incapacitate you if it meant keeping you close. Even though he knows this won't make you like him anymore.
Hank, Semi-Lucid
The chief word to characterize this yandere type is Escapist. Considering how long now Hank's lived such a dim and joyless life, it makes too much sense he would do anything to hold onto this joy. Even if that means acting against his best interest.
It also adds up Hank, the person who's lived in such a dark place for so long now would be much less averse to crossing boundaries of what most would consider acceptable and a regular loving relationship. Now that he really feels he has something to lose, its all more important that he keeps you.
Just because Hank knows he wouldn't hesitate to get his hands dirty if it meant keeping you protected, it's not to say he's proud of this, and he is much more aware of how you'd react if you found out.
Likely Hank would use any moments of aggressive protectiveness between the two of you as just a part of his usual rough exterior. Furthermore, he wouldn't really act softer or more loving towards you unless it was only the two of you alone and would react largely the same in groups in efforts to keep a low profile or to prevent others from getting suspicious
Daniel, Semi-Lucid
Even though he's not the most out of his mind is in love with you at first. It mostly resulted on account of a particularly harsh rejection, which would cause Daniel to lose his mind and do something regrettable.
Moreover, Daniel would absolutely be more prone to insecurity or jealousy regarding your relationship with others. This is going to remain the same whether you tell him you love him back or not. It's something so deeply ingrained in his persona he's long since lost the ability to control this.
The kind of person to very quickly catch himself nearly losing his mind falling in love with someone he's only recently met. It's almost animalistic of him to pounce on this person before they potentially leave him or are taken by another. Heavily relies on you to help him to maintain his self-control and leave him feeling assured, so he isn't provoked to do something rash. Daniel isn't afraid to show you how dangerous he is and what he's capable of, even if this runs the risk of frightening you.
Lucid
Nines, Lucid
Genuinely has the most transparent grasp on reality when compared to his fellow yanderes. Not that interesting but, consider this means Nines is likely aware you don't actually love him back, and acting in such a hostile manner isn't helping.
It sounds rather paradoxical. Why would someone act in a way they know won't actually bring them and their loved any closer together? Perhaps Nines only gets so lethal to ensure no one gets close to you is because he sees himself as your guardian angel. This is tough love keeping other people away from you.
Despite how much Nines believes he's in the right here, he still would likely try to hide his actions from you. At least acknowledging that if you find a reason to fear him, you might report his behavior or distance yourself in some other way. Given his spot was track record, though, it wouldn't be difficult for 9 to brush off suspicions as false.
All things considered though, even Ninesmight slip up every now and then and finds his cool exterior slipping as he fails to maintain control of a situation if something were to really trigger his jealousy or give him a reason to cause harm.
Selfish
Zlatko, Selfish
Unlike most other yanderes who would identify love or infatuation as a real key to the relationship, Zlatko is more the type to want to keep you forever by his side and locked away within his abode because of a feeling of interest.
Not at all dissimilar to the way a scientist would fix it compulsively over their test subject or a painter over their muse, Zlatko finds a sick and almost perverse inspiration to you. The kind of fascination which makes him want to test on you to keep everything about you to himself.
He may not identify the connection between two of you as that of love, but it's wrong to say he feels no kind of fondness for you whatsoever. It's just that he has a questionable way of showing it. And the most important thing which has Zlatko pegged as a selfish type is his inability to care for your needs.
The idea of letting you go free or ever return to normal life is virtually impossible for him to imagine. Without you forever in his possession, Zlatko couldn't imagine living in such an unsatisfying home.
Gavin, Selfish
To be entirely honest, it's tough to imagine a sadistic kind of yandere anywhere but here in the ranking. When it comes to Gavin, the type of sadist who derives such a primal satisfaction in your misery. Nowhere but here is fitting.
One of the only people who likely wouldn't be deterred in the slightest that you don't actually like him back. Why should he care? It's not like you have any kind of power in the relationship anyway. So long as you know who belong to, that was all the affirmation he needed. While he's not exactly a control freak or anything like that, Gavin undeniably wants from you in a relationship is the feeling that you are powerless to save yourself while under his control.
Almost like he wants other people to try and get involved. That way, he'll have an excuse to entirely lose it on another person, of course, he wouldn't feel any remorse for this and on account of his cruel nature.
Selfless
Kara, selfless
Yep, that's right guys, you never would have guessed! But the Android programmed to act as a motherly figure to those she serves is the most likely of the yanderes to hyper fixate your well-being.
Overprotective to a fault, Kara really would do whatever she could to keep you happy and safe while in her care. So much so that you might not even know she holds any feelings of romantic affection towards you at all. Really thinking her love ends with your physical well-being.
The tip-off that causes you to think there might be more on her mind than just keeping you safe is Kara's distrust whenever you choose to spend time with other people over her. You do your best to explain to her that there's no reason to be suspicious, but still, something's not right with her.
But Kara does know it's probably for your best if she allows you to keep in contact with other people. However, the one thing that she won't allow is for you to think any of these people are more important than her or could ever replace her.
Luther, Selfless
This reflects a rather tragic aspect of who Luther is as a person deep down, rather than the choices he would make as a yandere in all honesty. Mostly because Luther has only known selfless unforgiving relationships with those around him, rather than ones of mutual love.
He no doubt would dream about one day, as far away as that might be, finding a beautiful idyllic relationship with you. But it feels almost too good to be true. There would be a part of Luther nearly too afraid to even dream of this, the rejection would simply hurt too much. Leaving him with almost unimaginable pain.
In the meantime, though, Luther would be more than happy to share a relationship with you, which is more discreet, but still, just as emotional. It would be a little difficult for someone as inexperienced as Luther to express his affections naturally. But this would likely manifest in him doing his best to be as gentle around you as possible, and giving you no plausible reason to fear him.
It would be much more difficult for him to remain so sweet and softspoken around any of your friends and family you wish to keep in your life though. So that maybe something you want to keep in mind here.
(Hi editing max here! I literally finished writing and editing this only to realize AFTER the fact I forgot to add Simon to this list, so consider this just a first draft, and when I go through with a second edit I’ll add him in as well. Thank you for reading, please follow this account I was unfairly terminated at 1.1k and now I’m starting back from scratch. :,))

Ruthlessly Alive, Chapter 8
Read it on Ao3
The rest of the day went well, at least from the Grounders’ standpoint. Everyone made it through training with no more than bumps and bruises. Raven and Monty had started planning how they were going to take apart the Dropship, and Wells had been coming and going to chat about materials collection. Miller had been listening to the Trikru contingent’s concerns regarding their weaknesses against the Mountain Men all day, and Syl had started her disgusting fecal purification project with Jasper.
To Clarke’s chagrin, her ‘council’ had also plotted with Octavia and Murphy to give her some alone time with Bellamy. Now they were eating dinner alone in the Dropship with fucking candles (where had they even found those?) and Clarke didn’t know what to say.
“Are you ready for the first courtship ritual?” He asked, breaking their silence. She blushed and nodded.
“Octavia said that I should harm you as severely as I could, as long as I knew that I could fix you.” She uttered. He looked surprised, but nodded.
“Yes, that’s ideal. I didn’t want you to worry about it too much. That’s why I suggested the cuts across the palm.” He replied slowly. “Did you have something else in mind?”
She swallowed nervously. “I did. I wanted to run it by Octavia first. I want them to know I’m taking this seriously, but I don’t want your people to think that I’m actually trying to kill you.”
“You can run it by me, if you’d like.” He offered. “That way I’ll know what to expect and I won’t panic.”
“There isn’t a rule about that?”
“There isn’t. And people will be impressed that you’re committed to doing things our way.” He smiled. It didn’t quite reach his eyes, so Clarke figured he was anxious to hear what she had planned.
“Okay…I was going to poison you, stab you, then suffocate you.” She grimaced. It felt like a strange sentence to say without malice. His eyes widened.
“I would leave the suffocation out.” He suggested after a pregnant pause. “It’s one of those things that you can’t help but react too. If you’re being strangled, suffocated, or drowned, you struggle.”
Clarke nodded quickly. “But the other two are fine?”
He nodded hesitantly. “I’ll be uncomfortable for a while, but ideally this will prevent any immediate wars, so I don’t need to be my best.” He shot her a somewhat pained smile. “Not that I’m excited by the idea of being stabbed, but it’ll certainly show your skill and commitment.”
She exhaled gratefully. “I’m not exactly thrilled by the idea either.” She admitted. “Stabbing you after everything you’ve done for us seems rude.”
“Well at least you’re stabbing me in the name of partnership.” He replied wryly. She let out a surprised laugh. “I’ll be fine. I’ve been stabbed before. Just pick a spot that won’t cause lasting damage.” She nodded, but was a little stuck on—
“You’ve been stabbed before?” She asked, worry creasing her brow.
He grimaced and nodded, pulling up his shirt to reveal a puckered scar on his abdomen. Of course, it was surrounded by other scars that were clearly from slashes, hacking and a multitude of other skin-breaking events, but the stab was distinct. “Ge smak daun, gyon op nodotaim.” He reminded her quietly. “It hurt, but it healed and I kept going.”
“What happened?” She couldn’t help the curiosity. Slashes and hacks were common in battle—she’d healed a number of them herself. But stabbing…you had to get close to stab someone. They were less common from what she’d seen of Grounder warfare. He pursed his lips and looked pained, and she backtracked. “Of course, you don’t have to tell me. That was invasive, I’m—“ He held up a hand to cut her off.
“I hope we’ll be the type of partnership that is comfortable with sharing more than just political aspirations, but personal information as well. This was…it was a betrayal, and the result of my refusal to see past my own hope.” The set of his mouth was grim. “A while ago…was it four years? I loved someone. She was from the Yujleda clan, and had come to Baltim to trade. Well, she told us she’d come to Baltim to trade. We invited them to stay in our home when they visited, first as a diplomatic gesture. Eventually, we’d warmed to them, and I looked forward to their visits. She brought me things she knew I’d like—books, fine furs, unique weapons. Her stays grew longer and I fell for her. I was planning to ask her to marry me.” He looked down at his hands. Clarke reached over, and laced her fingers with his. He remained hunched, but she could see the rigid lines relaxing.
“Murphy discovered what was happening. Our relationship was not always…well, we used to hate each other.” Clarke’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “I kept him at arms length when he first came to my service. But then he overheard a conversation outside the city gates while he was patrolling. It was Ilena, speaking with a messenger from her clan. She was telling them that she needed more time—that she hadn’t secured my interest. That their army couldn’t make a move until she was in a seat of power.” His voice was gaining bitterness as he spoke, and Clarke drew her thumb in circles on his hand to soothe him. “He’s usually quite good at staying silent, but it’s hard to mask footsteps in the dead of night. He ran, deciding to bring the news as close to me as possible. Tried to tell me, or at the very least Octavia what he’d heard. But she heard him and went after him. She was quite skilled and very fast.”
“Once he noticed that he was being followed, he started bellowing for Octavia. He knew I was asleep all the way across Baltim, but Octavia’s home was close so he ran for it. He didn’t get to her—she tripped him up and stabbed him. Then she came for me. Luckily, one of the guards had heard the ruckus, and found Murphy, who told him to get Octavia and tell her what Ilena was planning. He did, and Octavia made it to me just minutes after I’d let her into my room. She told me what the guard told her and what had happened to Murphy, insisting that Ilena was some sort of spy for her people. I wouldn’t hear it. I loved her. I didn’t want to think she would betray me like that, but then Ilena turned and stabbed me. Octavia slashed her throat before she could escape.”
“Bellamy…” Clarke murmured, heartbroken and outraged for him. “I’m so sorry.” She honestly didn’t know what else to say. How do you respond to something like that?
He smiled softly, tinged with sadness. “It was difficult. But I had Octavia, and I gained Murphy. I survived, I healed and I learned.”
She continued to stroke his hand with her thumb, lip caught between her teeth and an ugly mixture of sadness, concern and anxiety welling up inside her. He’d told her something so personal and so devastating, and it didn’t seem like enough to offer shallow comfort. He wanted to share personal information? She could do that.
“You know how I said that I didn’t belong to anyone?” She asked hesitantly. He immediately stiffened, grip tightening around her fingers and eyes hardening. “No, that’s not what…no.” She huffed frustrated, squeezing his hand gently. “I don’t belong to anyone, that’s still true. But a week after we landed, I thought I might end up with one of my people.” She admitted. He relaxed, but still eyed her warily. “Finn.” He didn’t tense again, but he did frown.
“Finn is with Raven. That’s what you said.” He reminded her, a soft warning making it’s way into his voice. She nodded, dropping her eyes.
“He was so fascinated by everything he found and helpful when everyone else was being useless. He stood up for me and told me when he was scared and let me do the same. When our wristbands failed he felt helpless and alone, and I told him he wasn’t. He had taken me to this small bunker where we’d scavenged supplies before, and in the heat of the moment we just…latched onto each other. For three days we were all soft smiles and long talks and steady trust. Then Raven, the most amazing, intelligent, and devoted woman in the universe, built herself a dropship from the shittiest materials on the Ark, risked being blown up on re-entry, and threw herself through space in a tin can to get to him. Because she had been with him for years on the Ark.” She swallowed, voice wavering.
“He hadn’t mentioned her to me once, and she was so thrilled to see him alive. And then she was excited to meet me because my mom had helped her get the materials she needed to build her pod. And he went back to her—of course he went back to her, she’s amazing—but he didn’t say a word about what had happened, and I was shamed into keeping it from her. In the meantime, he kept on leaving me little gifts and following me around, trying to talk and make me feel better or get me back even when he was with her. He was unfaithful because he thought she was going to die, and I could have forgiven that. But then he withheld the truth and kept pursuing me and it made me feel filthy and ashamed. That one thing you only talk about in whispers because everyone would hate you if you said it out loud.”
It was his turn now, and he was softly stroking the back of Clarke’s hand. His hands were rough and warm, and they completely enveloped hers. “You couldn’t have known.” He murmured.
“But I could have told her when I found out.” She whispered. “I didn’t. She found out on her own. Found one of the gifts he left me and confronted me. I’m lucky, because she might be hot-headed and ruthless, but she doesn’t blame me. Somehow, she ended up as one of the people I trust the most. But now, because he’s close to Raven and what he’s done with me, he’s everywhere. And he’s smart, and he’s a pacifist, so sometimes his input is valid, but sometimes it’s like he has a claim on me and feels entitled to sway my decisions.”
“He doesn’t.” Bellamy replied confidently. “If he ever did, he doesn’t anymore. Anything you may feel guilty about, anything he feels you owe him? It was repaid in full when you agreed to this alliance. Beyond that, it’s not his society to influence anymore.” He reminded her.
Her eyes shot to his, suddenly anxious. “What do you mean?”
“Not that your people won’t be part of our peoples’ voices.” He assured her. “But we have a monarchy. We have a government. You and I will pick our advisors, and decide what we listen to. When there were just a hundred of you, his voice was far louder. In a month, you’ll be a queen to thousands, and take many more peoples’ needs into consideration. You’ve earned the right to not listen if you find his input invaluable. You can trust that whichever advisors you choose will tell you if you need to reconsider. Whatever power you think he took from you is back in your hands.” He smiled gently. She felt tension draining from her, and felt the need to be closer. He flashed her a confused look when she stood, but then she settled herself in his lap, his hand still clutched in hers. He brought his free hand to her hip to steady her.
“Thank you, Bellamy.” She placed her hand on his chest. “Thank you for giving us this chance. Thank you for being so good to me. Doing so much to make me feel comfortable.”
He let his eyes roam over her face. “You make it easy to care for you.” He admitted. She flushed under his gaze, and his eyes darkened in return. “Clarke.” Her eyes flicked down to his lips, then back to his eyes. He acquiesced, leaning up to brush his lips over hers. “I want to take this at your pace, Princess.” He whispered against her mouth. “You’re giving so much of yourself to this alliance, I want to at least have our relationship feel like it’s yours.” She melted, sealing her mouth to his firmly.
His answering groan was sinful. Suddenly, Clarke found herself surrounded by him, and utterly electrified. His hand gripped her hip harder, squeezing into the supple flesh. He sucked her bottom lip and nipped it—sharp flashes of teeth followed by soothing swipes of tongue.
Before long, their entwined hands separated so that she could thread her hands in his hair, and he could run his newly freed hand up her back, drawing her closer. She moaned into his mouth when he dropped his hand from her hip to squeeze her ass, and the sound seemed to ignite him. He repositioned her effortlessly, swinging her leg over his lap so that she was straddling him before pulling away from her searching mouth to drop his lips to her jaw; grazing his teeth over her mandible, then nipping her ear, then leaving hot, open mouthed kisses and blunted bites down her neck. He reveled in the sounds she made—low, sweet, and tremulous moans and whimpers that went straight to his cock. “So beautiful.” He murmured against her flushed throat. She shook in his hands as his deep, rumbling timbre vibrated across her skin. “And you taste,” he scraped his teeth across her skin. “Like sunshine.” The growled assessment was punctuated by another, sturdy bite—sucking the delicate skin at the junction of her shoulder and neck between his teeth. It would leave a mark, and the sensation had her hips rocketing into his with a delighted cry.
He reluctantly pulled away, and she whimpered at the loss. He let his eyes rake over her again, and arousal punched through him at the artfully ruined picture in his lap. Swollen lips, mussed hair, glazed eyes, bruised neck. She was grinding down on his leg—tiny, unconscious gyrations that begged him for more. “As much as I want to ravish you, Princess, we need to eat. You trained hard today. We have time.” He hated himself for saying it, but was impressed with his own even speech. He kissed her again, soft and coaxing. She sighed against him, and tried to pull him closer, but he pulled back.
Clarke knew she was pouting, but dutifully slipped from his lap and say back in her own seat. She nibbled her lip, gazing shyly at him from beneath her eyelashes. “Are you sure you don’t want to keep going?” She asked after a long, uncertain moment.
“Oh, I do.” He chuckled, shifting in his seat. Her eyes dropped to his lap, where it was clear that he wanted to keep going. “But coupled with your training, I have a feeling you’d hate me tomorrow if we did.”
She sighed a little wistfully. “Fine. But keep in mind that I’ll be stabbing you tomorrow. I can’t promise that my frustration won’t affect the outcome.”
He grinned, delighted at her cheek. “On the other hand, if you want me to fix it, you’ll have to keep me alive.” He purred.
She grinned back. “You make a good point. I guess we’ll see if I’m more swayed by frustration or anticipation.”
Finn loped up to the campfire, sliding in next to Raven where she was surrounded by their ragtag team. His eyes slid over the group. Their ragtag team, minus one. “Where’s Clarke?” He asked. Wells frowned as Raven stiffened, and Finn didn’t seem to notice.
“Getting to know her fiancé.” Syl smirked, holding her hand up to Miller who quickly high-fived her.
Wells chuckled at their antics before turning his eyes back to Finn, uncharacteristically cold. “They’re having dinner in the Dropship before their super intense Grounder courting ritual tomorrow. Why, did you need something?” There was an edge to his tone that Finn ignored.
 “What ritual?”
“There are three rituals before the main ceremony.” Raven grumbled. “Do you listen when I talk to you?”
“It’s essentially proving to one another that they can take care of each other. There’s one about health, one about providing, and one about communication.” Syl told him before he could make a fuss. “Tomorrow’s the one about health. They harm each other, then they heal each other.”
“He’s going to harm her?” Finn snapped, getting to his feet. Even Jasper rolled his eyes. Raven grabbed his sleeve.
“Not as much as she’ll harm him. Now sit down and shut up before you piss someone off.” Raven snapped. Finn looked mutinous, and both Wells and Miller stirred uneasily. “Back to what we were actually discussing. Those training exercises were brutal.” She complained.
“We’re going to be sore as fuck tomorrow.” Syl agreed, flopping down. “I’m actually considering sleeping right here.”
“You could. It would get cold once the fire died down.” Miller grunted. She shot him a small wry smile. “Yeah, I know. Open spaces.” Syl didn’t like sleeping in the open. She also didn’t like to talk about it.
They chatted for a while, talking about their progress and plans. Eventually they got to Wells, by which time Murphy, Octavia and Lincoln had joined them. “So I was looking at the super shitty map we drew based on what dad showed us before comms cut out,” he began. “And there are some old supply depots nearby that we should check out.”
“What makes you think they haven’t been ransacked already?” Miller asked around a mouthful of rabbit.
“Government depots. Smaller than Mount Weather was, but hidden. They didn’t want to give the locations out to the public in case they were ransacked during a crisis.” He rolled his eyes. “But there’s one that’s supposed to have a ton of tac gear in it.” Miller perked up.
 “Like what?”
“Armor, tech, rations, camp gear, guns—“
“We don’t use guns.” Octavia warned. “I know you’ve been using the ones you found, but once you’re integrated, you’ll probably be asked to stop. Until you take care of the Acid Fog, at least. They see guns on one of us, and they unleash it. And after, the other clans will be unsettled by our military advantage, and it’s in our best interest to keep the peace by getting rid of them.”
“So we’re supposed to fight Mount Weather without technology on their level?” Wells raised an eyebrow. “Sounds like a good way to lose.”
“Perhaps. But until the fog is gone, we can’t risk it. We can’t use them until we’re sure, and after the Mountain is defeated, we’ll have to disarm.” She insisted. “Unless, of course, you want guns in the hands of every clan. That is the most likely compromise that Lexa will offer if we refuse to dispose of them.”
Nobody liked that idea. No. That seemed like an awful idea. “Well then we better learn quickly.” Syl muttered. “I don’t like the idea of us being defenseless or underprepared. Even for a minute.”
Octavia smiled and flicked her eyes to Murphy, who looked proud and pleased with her statement. Then her eyes drifted over the rest, and Miller and Raven were nodding along. Jasper and Monty looked hesitant, but seemed like they understood. They weren’t built for battle, though. Wells looked resigned, but resignation was a form of acceptance, so she was okay with that. But Finn—the pretty boy with the big dreams and sense of self-importance looked annoyed. “Do you disagree, Finn?”
He shot her a look that suggested dislike. “I thought the whole point of this alliance was to prevent violence.”
She offered him a condescending smirk in return. “Just because you have brokered peace with us, does not mean you have done so with the other eleven clans. Resources are precious, and territory is precious. We fight to protect our people and ourselves. And even if we weren’t at war, being able to defend yourself is always valuable. Especially if you’re a woman. Why don’t you ask your houmon how many time she’s been tempted to kill to protect herself?”
Raven shifted uncomfortably next to him. “Raven?”
She was silent, pondering through her response. “I don’t really want to kill anyone. But I would have loved to beat the shit out of Commander Davies when he’d kick me out of our room to exploit my mother, or Nigel for not cutting her off moonshine. And I’d have given my left leg to break Parson’s arm the next time he felt me up in the airlock chamber.” She admitted. His jaw dropped.
“You didn’t tell me he was harassing you!”
“I did. You told me to tell him to stop, or I’d file a complaint with Sinclair. That didn’t work because he threatened you. After that, I left it alone. You were in the SkyBox, I didn’t want to bother you with my less life-threatening problems.”
 “Threatened me how?” He demanded.
“He worked on the heating and ventilation systems in the prison units. He could have suffocated you in your sleep or frozen you to death in under an hour.” She shrugged. “You saved my life, I save yours, right? But yeah, even having the knowledge that I could  hurt him if I wanted to would have made it better. Made me feel like less of a victim.”
Octavia had a satisfied and knowing smirk plastered on her face. “The only thing that keeps you alive is your willingness to fight for each breath. If you are unwilling to fight, someone will take what’s yours because those who need more fight harder. And all people—men and women—are taught to fight in Trishanakru. Though we value peace, we will not be exploited. As my brother likes to say, we 'speak softly and carry a big stick.’ There is no shame in strength, only in needless violence. But it is sometimes necessary, so don’t undervalue its importance because of your ideals. You’ll only put yourself and your people in danger.”
Finn’s jaw clenched. “Maybe we deserve to die if we can’t solve our problems with words instead of weapons.”
Murphy spoke. “You’re being naive. You are assuming that just because you prefer to solve problems with words, everyone will. The Mountain Men are the perfect example. They didn’t tell us they had marked off territory. They started burning us alive and poisoning our water supply. We didn’t know what was happening until we saw one of them fleeing back to safety behind the Mountain’s steel doors. They come silently and keep us tame with their weapons, and we’ve never even seen their faces. No matter how many times we tried to make peace, they slaughtered.” Though his tone his soft, his words were sharp and intentional. They’d asked to be prepared and taught their ways, and he was merely fulfilling that promise.
He continued. "That might not be the way we do things, but that’s because Bellamy is honorable and always keeps the bigger picture in mind. Not everyone is like that, because the more you think you deserve, the less you are willing to share.” His eyes flicked meaningfully from Raven across the campfire to the Dropship where Clarke was hidden, then back to Finn’s face. He was pleased to note that his words had caused the foolish boy to go red in the face, the implication not lost and not appreciated. “Believe what you will, and learn what you want. But don’t impose your ideals upon others at the expense of their lives.”
He did his best not to notice that Syl was raking her heated gaze over his form, clearly pleased with his perspective and unsubtle venom. Or maybe, that he had supported her opinion so thoroughly.
Wells looked pleased with him, too. “Even if we’re not using those guns in the long term, it’s still a good idea to collect them.” He stated, bringing the conversation back to the center. Octavia raised an expectant eyebrow, waiting for him to explain. “We can use them once the acid fog is gone, but then when it’s time to disarm we can still repurpose the components. That’s a lot of scrap metal and chemical surplus, and it would be a shame to waste it.”
Syl nodded. “The chemicals in gunpowder can be repurposed, and the metal from the guns can be used in Raven and Monty’s engineering projects.”
 “Gunpowder?” Lincoln asked.
“It’s the stuff in a bullet that makes it move so fast. Explosive material that forces the bullet out of the gun at an extremely high speed.” She explained quickly. “It’s mostly made from sulfur, potassium nitrate, and charcoal. Sulfur is used for killing bacteria, so it’s useful in a number of medications, and in farming. Potassium nitrate is a really important component of most fertilizers for crops, and charcoal can be used for purification, and can theoretically be used to prevent water damage and moisture decay. There are more uses, but those are the most obvious. It depends on how much of it we find, too.”
“I’m starting to understand why Bellamy agreed to this alliance so readily.” Lincoln murmured. “You’re all quite impressive. I should have known.” Octavia elbowed him.
“Known what?” Miller asked, suspicious. Murphy shot him an amused glance.
“Bellamy has been offered political alliances like this in the past. He’s declined them all, except for Trikru. That was only because Octavia wanted to bond with me, so the timing was convenient.” Lincoln replied, ignoring the elbow digging into his side. “No alliance was important enough for him to forget his desire to love and be loved by his houmon. But I can see why he thought this one was. Your people are very impressive. You have a lot of potential, and you’re resourceful. That’s valuable.”
While they were flattered by his appraisal and glad to know that their alliance was secure and valued, the reminder that Clarke might never be in love with a person she could have was a jarring and upsetting one. But when Finn opened his mouth to say as much, Raven dug her nails into his thigh.
“That’s kind of you to say, Lincoln.” Monty said, soft and measured. Monty would have made a good representative for Farm Station. If they’d stayed in space, that is. “It’s good to know that our skills are valued. I hope we can earn the relative peace you’ve given us.”
“I can’t wait to see what you accomplish.” He smiled, unaware of the shift in mood. It didn’t escape Octavia though. Luckily, she was a master of setting people at ease without them noticing. It’s what made her such a capable assassin.
“And then there’s Clarke.” She smirked over at Murphy, who couldn’t contain his amused grin. “You made the right decision when you sent her to TonDC instead of Wells.” The laughter in her voice was palpable.
“I thought he was going to choke when she sat next to him at the negotiation.” Murphy chuckled. “A brave, beautiful girl with a martyr streak to rival the saints of old? And her peoples’ leader.”
“And the eye-contact thing.” Octavia grinned. “We all knew she was terrified, but walking in there and staring him straight in the eye as though he wasn’t the king of a warrior nation? I’m surprised he managed to speak in complete sentences.”
 “He likes her?” Miller asked.
Octavia snorted. “She’d already be pregnant with a leash around his balls if not for tradition. I don’t completely trust your people yet, but I’m honestly too amused to be annoyed. I’m just glad that he has a panel of advisors so that he doesn’t blindly agree with everything she says out of sheer lovestruck idiocy.”
“Clarke isn’t like that. She’ll always put her people before herself. She’s too rational.” Finn told them, barely suppressing a smug smile. Raven was tense next to him. Octavia’s stare hardened. She knew what Finn was trying to do.
Syl guffawed. “Shows how well you know her. Yeah, she’s not likely to back down from an opinion without extreme persuasion and her people come first, but it’s not because she’s too rational. It’s because she’s taken responsibility for every single one of us, and she cares too much to let herself be happy. She’s not a robot, she’s a martyr.”
“Personally, I’m glad she has Bellamy.” Wells drawled, learning back. “She’ll have someone to help her carry the weight of her decisions.”
“And,” Miller continued, giving Finn a nasty side-eye. “Now that we’re joining Trishanakru, she probably can probably relax into her personal life a bit. They’ll be her people too, so she won’t have to worry about us spontaneously dying as often and we’ll have the rest of the clan looking out for us, she can let herself get romanced a little.”
“I got a chance to talk to Bellamy today.” Monty offered. “They think a lot alike. I think he might be what she needs. To heal and move forward, I mean.”
 “Like how?” Murphy asked.
“She needs a partner.” He shrugged. “Someone steady who she can lean on, and who can lean on her. Someone to respect her decisions and be a sounding board, and listen when she offers her opinion. Bellamy admires her and is genuinely interested in how she makes her decisions. He wouldn’t stop harassing me while I was trying to itemize.  He asked about life on the Ark, our customs and laws. Beyond what Clarke had already told him. He wants to understand us. To understand her.”
Murphy frowned. “I told you at that would be the case. At the peace conference.”
“It’s one thing to say it, and another to see it.” He replied wryly. “As much as I hoped you were telling the truth, I was still worried. She does so much for us, so the idea that she’d give up falling in love—having a life, really—to keep  us safe was daunting. We’d be grateful, but that’s a cold life to live. Especially after a year of solitary and losing both of her parents. I’m glad that there’s a chance for her to have a fulfilling and equitable relationship. One that won’t cause her more pain and loneliness.” His eyes cut to Finn before turning back to Murphy.
“I’m glad he decided to pursue this alliance.” Murphy admitted. “After his few romantic disasters and failed alliances, I wasn’t sure this would turn out well. He’d still attempt a peaceful resolution, but this amount of involvement was more than I predicted.”
“Romantic disasters?” Syl piped up, leaning in. “What romantic disasters?”
“Murphy.” Octavia warned. Murphy rolled his eyes. Everyone had leaned in a little—clearly interested and waiting for the story. Octavia clearly didn’t want it told.
“It was only one disaster.” He admitted, leaning back against his log. “He fell in love and she betrayed him. She stabbed him, and Octavia slit her throat. For a while, we thought he was turning down courtships because he didn’t trust anyone anymore, and we were worried about him.”
 “Murphy, shof op.”
“Chil au.” He replied. “They deserve to know more about their future King. Especially since he’s marrying their friend. They’re worried. Can you blame them?”
“As a hai-seken, no. As his sister, absolutely.” She snapped. “I doubt Bellamy will want to hear that joka’s name ever again, and our people know that. They don’t.”
“Emo laik oson kru.” He scolded. “They need to know how the world works. It’s different than when their people left. You can tell just by the way—“ He looked up, gesturing, but was met with empty air. He blinked owlishly. “Where’s Finn?”
All eyes swiveled to the empty space that Finn had been occupying mere moments ago. “Oh crap.” Syl muttered. Raven’s eyes snapped to her, glaring and furious. “Oh, come on. What if he’s about to barge into our carefully crafted dinner date to tell Clarke that Trishanakru has a history of murdering their love interests? That doesn’t exactly scream ‘good diplomatic relations’ or ’successful marriage’. We gotta find him."

all the 40 oc questions
1. If your oc was to host a TV show, what would it be about? Would your oc be good at it? What sorts of guests would appear?
A show about cryptids, myths & legends! though, the topics covered would be subtly weaved to elicit fear in the viewers.
2. Can your oc play any instruments? Have they ever wanted to learn how to play any? Why?
He learned how to play violin & cello over time, but can also take on a form that knows how to (or can mimic the skills needed) play an instrument if it pertains to that person’s fears/nightmares.
3. If you were to choose another name for your oc, what do you think it would be? Did you choose it for how it sounds or for its meaning?
I don’t think I could choose another name for Mephiles! (i’m also terrible with making up or finding names that suit a specific type of character once i’ve settled on a name hjgdshfgsd)
4. How does your oc fare in the dark? Are they scared? Do they trip over things really easily or navigate like they have night vision? (Or do they have night vision?)
Mephiles is at home in the dark. He can see perfectly in it, and know exactly what lurks in it.
5. How well would your oc fare as a teacher? What subject would they be best at teaching? What about the worst?
Terribly. He’d just intentionally frighten the students.
6. What was your oc’s relationship with their parents like? If they didn’t have any parents/didn’t know them, who in their life was the closest to a parent to them?
Didn’t have any parents, and never had a parent figure, either. He was alone for a long time.
7. Does your oc have any allergies, intolerances, or other sensitivities? How dangerous is it? Does this affect their daily life in any way?
High-pitched noises can make him uncomfortable, but that’s about it.
8. Does your oc prefer being in a crowd or being completely alone? How many people can be around them before they get uncomfortable?
Both work fine, but Mephiles does prefer smaller crowds in a social setting. Otherwise, he won’t complain. More people to feed from.
9. How easily does your oc make friends? Do they have difficulty talking to new people? Why?
He makes friends more easily with people aware of his true nature that don’t immediately scoff and/or run away, or non-humans. But he’s still fairly half-decent at making friends regardless!
10. How open is your oc to trying new things? Are they the adventurous sort, or would they rather stay in their comfort zone? Why?
He’s always open to try new things. There’s a lot about the world that he’s yet to experience, and he loves to get to know his prey better, after all.
11. What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to your oc?  Do they still feel ashamed for it? Were there any witnesses?
He doesn’t really get into embarrassing situations? Maybe being caught one night as he stood by someone’s bed as he gave them nightmares, relishing in their fear, but he has his ways of dealing with intruders…
12. Does your oc have any best friends? Who was/is their closest friend? What about their worst enemy?
Alexander Russell happens to be a close friend of Mephiles’. It was Alexander who suggested to Mephiles to go out and actually experience humanity and Earth instead of just seeing it all as prey. He’s also in contact with Callisto and Morgaine.
13. How dangerous is your oc? Are they completely innocent, or someone to be feared? Do others know?
He’s the literal Boogeyman. He’s far from innocent, and feeds on fear. Some know of who he is, but most know his moniker; not his name or face.
14. What is your oc’s vision like? Do they require glasses, are they completely blind, or do they have 20/20 vision? Does this have an effect on their life?
His vision is perfect, though he can take on forms that could require glasses if it relates to a person’s fears.
15. What is your oc’s favourite time of day? Why is this? Do they have a daily practice during this time?
Night-time. Not just due to it being the time when the majority of humans sleep, but it’s also more aesthetically pleasing and peaceful to him.
16. How often does your oc lie? Why is that? What was the biggest lie they’ve ever told?
Extremely rarely. He doesn’t feel the need to lie often - most people barely believe him when he tells them exactly what he is.
17. How well can your oc keep secrets? Is there a difference between how they handle their own vs someone else’s? To what lengths would they go to keep something hidden?
Relatively well regarding his own secrets, amazingly well with other people’s secrets.
18. How does your oc fare in an emergency situation? Do they panic, do they freeze, do they take charge?
He takes charge, if he can.
19. If your oc were to be arrested for something, what would it be for? For being too kind, for a legitimate crime?
Murder, most likely. Sometimes he gets a little too excited when he’s hungry, and can kill someone. Most of the time it looks like natural causes (sudden heart attack, for example), but being caught would definitely make it seem like he caused it.
20. What is your oc’s personal hygiene like? Is it important to them? What is their daily routine for this like?
He looks eerily spotless. He doesn’t do much to look that way, just a simple shower or bath.
21. Are there any public events your oc would love to go to? Concerts, plays, movies, parties, etc? What about ones that they would hate? Why?
Halloween gatherings & parties. No guesses as to why.
22. How quiet or loud is your oc? Are they easily capable of sneaking around without being heard, or do they feel it’s impossible to stop talking?
Mephiles can be deathly silent if he needs or wants to be, and it’s oh-so-easy for him to sneak around without being heard or seen.
23. How difficult is it for your oc to get to sleep? Do they fall asleep the moment they hit the pillow, or do they have insomnia? Any reason why?
He doesn’t need sleep, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t slept. It doesn’t take him long, he’s often fairly relaxed.
24. How dramatic is your oc? Do they make a big deal over every little thing, or do they fail to react to even the most crazy of events?
Mephiles responds appropriately to most things, though can act dramatically if it adds flavour to whatever he’s saying.
25. How does your oc handle being sick? Do they pretend not to be? Do they complain a lot? How susceptible to getting sick are they?
It’s seemingly impossible for Mephiles to get sick.
26. How stylistically fancy is your oc? Or would they rather go for comfort and plainness instead?
His wardrobe is varied, but he does have many tailored suits from different eras.
27. What’s your oc’s preferred mode of transportation? Walking, vehicle, (or in a sci-fi/magic setting) teleportation?
Walking & teleportation. Beware him when he starts running, however.
28. Is your oc always late, always early, or always right on time? Is there any reason for this?
Either early or on time. He just likes to be at places when he should be.
29. How empathetic is your oc? Or are they closer to being a sociopath? Any reason why?
Variable depending on hunger levels.
30. How much does your oc swear? Or do they keep completely clean? Why is this? Is there any situation where they would be the opposite?
He often uses “bloody” “bugger” and “arse” frequently to flavour his sentences, but harsher words are only ever used in a heated moment to emphasize a point.
31. What is your oc’s sense of humour like? What do they find funny? Do they try to be funny? Are they actually?
Mephiles is actually extremely easily amused, and it doesn’t take much to make him laugh. His own jokes, however, are mostly just comedic timing.
32. Is your oc a pacifist, or someone who picks fights? Why? In what situations would they be the opposite?
Mostly pacifistic, he just doesn’t see the need to pick fights.
33. How does your oc’s own perception of themselves compare to how other people see them? Is your oc aware that other people see them differently (if it’s different)?
He knows exactly how people see him, and he revels in it, even if he doesn’t quite like giving himself an ego boost. He just sees himself as an entity with a hunger that needs to be satisfied.
34. How easily does your oc throw something away? As soon as something is through with its usefulness, or are they more like a hoarder? Is there a reason?
Mephiles doesn’t own too much, and doesn’t throw away anything that he does have.
35. Is your oc a workaholic, or do they find it hard to be busy at all? Do they find it easy to relax, or must they have something to do at all times? Why?
He’s never not busy, but that’s because most of his time is spent entertaining himself or doing what he needs to.
36. What is your oc’s ideal night out like? Or would they rather spend it at home?
Hunting for fear. Or just getting a sadistic kick by making a large crowd of people run for their lives.
37. How picky is your oc? Will they not accept something because of the smallest details being off, or do they not care in the slightest? Why?
When it comes to his own home, he’s extremely picky. Otherwise, he respects other people’s particularities.
38. How energetic is your oc? Do they have trouble sitting still or do they feel low on juice all the time? Any reason why?
In the middle, but he can be very excitable.
39. Is it difficult for your oc to focus, or do they have no trouble being in the moment? Do they daydream or zone out?
He’s extremely focused, but he likes to daydream.
40. How humble is your oc? Or are they closer to royal in their self-perception? Why? Is this obvious to others?
Humble-ish, in that (as said above) he relishes in being known as the boogeyman, but he acknowledges that he’s just a living thing like everyone else.
