SEVEN BY JUNGKOOK PT1

Disclaimer: this review is from a shipper's perspective and it's objective is to rebut a few misconceptions about 7.

When I first heard the song was gonna be titled seven, I rolled my eyes- like how many times are these boys going to pander to Army with the whole 0T7 agenda right? Here they with yet another song about how much they love eachother like come on! I love BTS, I do but- I mean yall had the tattoos and the cute meet ups, and heart wrenching sappy goodbyes- isn't that enough why yall gotta make yet another song about your bond and friendship WHYYYYYY yall don't have nothing else to talk about? I thought season two was yall on tour grown grown shit- how is this growth if you singing bout the same thing over and over- right? BOY WAS I WRONG ABOUT THAT!

It's a good thing I didn't come out here to rant about that cos that would have been the biggest embarrassment of my life and I would be eating my words right about now while penning several apology letters to Jungkook- anonymously.

Seven thus, to me, is surprisingly good. Not at all what I had thought the song would be about so when I tell yall I was screaming up and down in my living room surprised and amazed clapping and cheering on as if this was the best thing I ever heard- yall wouldn't even understand.

It is why the first thing I love about the song is the title and how creative it is in as much as it doubles as a play on the word and teases out his connection to Bangtan- say whatever you want but I think that was hella genius and creative and reflects Jungkook's personality for someone who has always been creative in this way from his use of color contrasts in his GCFs to tell a story right down to choosing ABCD as his IG handle.

The MV had Jungkook written all over it- playful, goofy fun yet delightfully hot- it's the memes for me.

It was nice to see him be himself in a music video- nothing felt forced and contrived to me nor seemed out of character and that's what gave the song the flair I think it has. Jungkook pulled this off smoothly.

His acting was spot on- I loved the female character in there (in spite of yall saying they didn't gat chemistry) that's just because she's my type so thank you for that Jungkook. Mean cold emotionally unavailable, physically intimidating- yea no, I'm in love with her not gonna lie🤧

And I don't know what it is but she reminds me of Park Jimin too. And I sorta kinda like Jimin soo🥴

Is it the cheek bone?

Or the neck and shoulders

Either way, she invokes the same feelings I get when I look at Park Jimin- strong alpha female😌 may be it's because they both give off masc/fem androgyny energy and I like that shit- eat it up nom

She played her role very well and helped sell the story.

Those saying they lacked chemistry yall never seen BTS around girls huh cos it doesn't get better than this😩😩😩😩😩

Don't know if yall were expecting them to be flirting and shit- at least this female lead played center I'm still trying to find the female lead in JMs MV😭🤣🤣

I'm actually surprised how good Jungkook's acting turned out in this MV. Whatever they were doing in the restaurant- I'm sold.

And I know alot of people aren't too enthused by the plot of the MV- a young man hopelessly in love with their partner to the point of clinginess and obsession- look, may be if I were looking at this concept from an outside in perspective I would find issues there with that narrative too but as some one who has been following these men almost through out their music career and have had the privilege of consuming content beyond the music they do- I kinda find it hilarious 😂

Hilarious because it's everything fans, and BTS accuse Kook of- it's giving me war flashbacks to the perila leaf conversation they had, to all the times he and Jimin have been caught sneaking into each other's hotel rooms because CLINGY, to Jimin complaining he comes into his room at 1am just to sit on the bed and do nothing, to all the theories about Kook being the clingy one in Jikook- hate to say I told ya😆

It's almost as if he's saying we'll folks yall are not wrong I kinda is clingy and I'm not ashamed🤣🤣🤣🤣

He's a hopeless romantic and he hasn't made that a secret at all. To me, what this is is he's owning the narrative- that is if this was a conscious decision and artistic choice by him.

I had to look up the director of the MV and this is the first time in my life I've genuinely cared about the director behind any project for that matter cos how much of a coincidence is this to cast characters who complement each other so well and craft a narrative which is not a narrative at all!

Their website says they blend "youth and pop culture with high concept storytelling." Well they pulled that off. The plot is simple and easy to follow and reflects pop culture. I wouldn't say this is exactly ground breaking though, because it's been done over and over again- but I think Jungkook rejuvenated the concept by adding his own take and personality to it. It was done well and I must give him high praise for this.

If you are a fan of pop culture and pop music this is consumable as fuck. The song is really catchy. And that's just the thing, there is a market for this genre of music whether you like it or not and he doesn't have to cater to everyone's taste all at once. However to me, this is a step in the right direction for his career especially if he is to position himself as a global artist.

People may know BTS but not everyone knows Jeon Jungkook and this right here is him carving a niche out for himself. He is not trying to ride on the success of BTS. He is not trying to be the solo version of BTS. He is trying to be JEON JUNGKOOK.

His music is gonna play in every teens living room, every adults bedroom, in the club on the streets- he's reaching places even BTS struggled to reach and that's the power of his brand.

He's making waves and he's only just begun. And it's about damn time too!

I don't have much to say about Latto other than give that bae some grammy just for the titties😩 the explicit version of the song makes so much sense why she was so freakylicious up on a BTS song😭😭😭😭

First I was like gurl what? Slurp what??? Then I heard the fucking you right version- I said carry on. My mistake chilee. Jungkook ma n*ga you wild.

It's refreshing to see him step into his power and own his image and his brand and control the narratives- if not capitalize on them.

Overall I think this was a great pop song and Jungkook carried it so well. He's gonna go places. It's high from here and nothing less.

While on the subject, let me address some of the remarks people have been making about the song. To anyone complaining this is yet another pop song- with all due respect, he is not Beethoven he is not an Opera singer he is a freakn pop artist 😩

If yall are tired of pop music just say so and go but don't come for a pop artist doing what a pop artist is supposed to do- and don't let a lie slip out of your mouth it's a great pop song that bops. Seven freakn days a week.

No other kpop artist have come this close to breaking into a western market much less come this close to dominating it. And to some of us, this has always been the dream. I have spent so many sleepless nights meditating and praying for BTS particularly Jikook to gain a strong foothold in the western music market, beyond Korea and Asia and when finally they are making attempts and moves towards that goal yall want to tear him down- fuck yall opps HE IS FREE BITCH.

At this point I really don't care whether people like the song or not because we have moved past that stage where their in their progress in their career was contingent on people liking their shit. How are you gonna like a song if you've never even heard it? Now more than ever, what's important is reaching as many listeners as possible and to that end I think they are all on a right truck.

Jungkook is out to make a name for himself and solidify himself as one of the top pop artist in the world and I don't think his language or country should hold him back- asking him to stick to Korean songs is holding him back from his full potential. Faulting him for for branching out and reaching for the stars is equally holding him back and putting him in a box- well burn that box would you.

I really hope seven is the first of many English pop songs he will make because we want to see more of him, all of him and especially what he can contribute to the genre he dabbles in. His best is yet to come.

And for those complaining seven is nothing new- understand IT IS NEW FOR JUNGKOOK. It is new for many of us who are seeing him do this for the FIRST TIME AS A SOLO ARTIST.

His English keeps improving with each new song, his delivery gets better and better- yall just leave him alone please and thank you.

My final thoughts, as the main vocalist of BTS HE SURELY LIVED UP TO HIS REPUTATION WITH SEVEN. HIS PERFORMANCE WAS AMAZING, COSTUME LOOKED GREAT, SET WAS FANTASTIC AND HIS VOCALS WAS FLAWLESS.

If this is the start we are off to a good start.

The MV to me gave him opportunity to showcase more of his goofy personality, to show people he really doesn't take himself too seriously and has a great sense of humor.

As a performer he nailed his role. Definitely understood the assignment. And it's a good thing they casted a strong female lead cos them damsels in distress be getting on my nerves.

Do we need more of this? Yes AND YESS AND HELL YES!!!!

Between Jimin's Angel and this, you guys have no idea how excited I am for their journey. I want to see more collabs, I want to see them take more risks and build their individual brands.

Jungkook should definitely consider acting. A cameo in a popular American series wouldn't hurt his career.

In fact, the entire maknae line should.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ sebek can be very degrading and aggressive from an outsider’s perspective, people wondering if you really agreed to be in his general vicinity of your free will at times, but he’s a good boy at heart. not many people can stick it out and stay by him, so if you take the time to just listen and inquire a bit, it’s absolutely easy to make him melt. rather than calling him strange or far too dedicated, tell him he’s doing a great job and he’s cool, he will get flustered very easily.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ sebek tells you about how weird his father is and fails to understand why you chuckle at him. he’s holding your hand in his, the other arm carrying your bag he refused to let you carry because you’re a weak human, one that he really cares for. he proceeds to ask you why you’re laughing, only for you to laugh harder to yourself as you remember the night before he helped you do your assignments and taught you what you didn’t understand without once getting frustrated with you, making sure you understood the material under the guise of wanting you to uphold your honor.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ sebek definitely likes to be the big spoon and have you in his arms because he’s the strong knight, but does not mind being the little spoon on occasion. i headcanon his father is also a little spoon but father zigvolt is a different story. sebek enjoys your warmth as he’s cold blooded, resting his head against your chest as he curls into you, holding you close as he inhales your scent, feeling safe. sometimes he fails to realize you’re the one wearing the pants in the relationship as he follows you around doing groceries, getting what you need done.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ sebek says matching clothes are very stupid and you wearing his clothes is weird but surprise surprise he has matching clothes with you. his clothes are very warm and it makes him really happy to see some kind of him on you, like his clothes. 10/10 denies this but if you ask really nicely he will avert his gaze and not respond because he can’t lie to you when you look at him like that. you also have a matching set of holiday pajamas with his family because his parents loved that idea a whole lot.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ father!sebek who one day has a child with you, adoption or biological, fretting over his child secretly. he tells you he knows the child will be strong, along with explaining to you he’s not going to be weird and gushy like his father. he very much so is and likes to visit the baby when you’re busy or asleep and watches over them, heart melting as the little hands grip his larger ones. he’s smiling to himself with sharp teeth on full display as the baby laughs.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ father!sebek who carries a baby in his baby carrier when you’re busy with work for the day and he’s spending time with the baby. originally rejected the idea but you put it on him and for some reason there’s a baby in there already and he’s gone out to exercise, goodbye, you’re not seeing him or the baby for awhile because they are absolutely bonding, as much as a grown man and his baby can. lilia approves of this because he gets to see the baby during morning.

TLT progress update: Finally found the time to finish HtN and oh boy that was a Ride and a half. I'll be the first to admit that it's a difficult read, I don't think I've ever had a narrator be this unreliable before but it's was absolutely worth it. It really was a cool experience to wade through the river ((heh)) of confusing time and environment jumps, only for some small detail to be mentioned which basically picks up a flare gun and quite literally illuminates the surroundings for a moment ((the time they all checked in with their calls signs and Ortus said "G. P." was like someone had thrown a steel bar into the inlet of a massive turbine. I screeched to a halt for a solid ten seconds trying to figure out why that tripped me up before pulling GtN from the shelf and frantically flipping through to the note in the lab)).

Also, I'm still hung up on the whole Sleeper deal, especially the fact that the letters in the coffin room anagram to "Pyrrha". First thought naturally was that it is Pyrrha but it doesn't quite fit with the shuttle portrait I think. Excited to see where that one goes

I think what from a sheer style point endears me most to the series so far is the. Passive hostility towards the reader, I guess you could call it? There's clearly a massive amount of world building that's happened behind the scenes, but it's just that, behind the scenes. You're an outsider, you know nothing about the world. You get the full POV of a character in the world and you still don't really know anything at any point bc they're Land-of-Punt-ing you, there's next to no exposition about how this or that aspect of the world works because the character and everyone around them all know how it works already, so why waste thoughts on it? Idk I've read only a couple of stories that are written like that and it's absolutely a double edged sword ((bc at some point you have to throw the reader some bones or they will get frustrated and stop)) but here it's executed really well ((e.g. I'm not actually sure if it's ever actually explained what the Cohort is, but at some point you've gathered enough context clues to pretty reliably get the picture))

In conclusion: High hopes for NtN

LOVE your thoughts on this because you highlighted exactly why i love the tlt series so much: it hilariously takes on the perspective of the character least equipped to tell the story, offers you context that requires 1-2 rereads to understand and get to in full, and then right when youre about to feel lost it helps you up the stairs. perfect story for dumb bitches that love mystery like me. i had the EXACT same experience when i saw G+P and had to flip back to gtn to glance at the lab note LMFAOOOO

i has missed the coffin room anagram spelling pyrrha the first time but the sleeper is wake! i think her spelling out her name was just a funny and somewhat sick bit. like keying your name into your exes car

Do you have any advice for drawing backgrounds? I want to start drawing them more but they intimate me and perspective seems really difficult

I can try! I kinda suck at givin advice, but here we go

When drawin backgrounds, you almost wanna think of them as their own characters with the details you add n put into them. Rooms n homes are the best ways to express this bcuz you can add details like decor that represents those who live there n shit. You can draw the wear n tear on things, the aging, etc. Of course, a lot homes aren't gonna be as maximalist as I like to draw lol but that doesn't mean they don't have their own charm. Even when it comes to drawin the outside, there's so many little details that make the whole piece. Even a vast open desert has rocks, cracks, heat waves n alla that. Now that's just talkin about details, if perspective is what you need to work on, there's a few exersizes for that I guess.

You wanna focus on depth. Now not every scene has to have a lot bcuz sometimes that's just not the perspective or location, but depth is kinda important. Think of what's in the foreground (closest), middle ground, and the WAY way background. The two best ways to really capture this depth can be 1) Forest/nature scenes, and 2) Lookin through a window.

Practice by drawin the things you see. Like wherever you're sittin, draw your perspective from right there (includin things close to you in the foreground). This can help gain a better understanding of shots n scenes in different locations n understandin the perspective. These drawings don't have to be the most beautiful thing, just take in the depth n perspective. Take a very impressionistic style if you wanna.

I think the best advice I can give ya is to REALLY take in your surroundings. Every now n then, just take a moment to take in all of the little details in a room, in public, outside, on transit, etc. Look for the things that everyone sees but it's such commonplace that no one really notices. The beauty of backgrounds is that they can say a lot about a character, a places history, etc. Backgrounds tell their own mfin story.

But yeah, perspective can be kinda tricky, so imma go back to those two depth practices I recommended. Gonna do some quick lil shitty sketches to show you what I mean on like gettin that shit in. (Sorry for the crumply paper, my cat sat his wet ass on it). These are just to get an idea of what the practices can look like! They're not te end all be all. Spend as much or as little time as you want. It's all about learnin, man

I don't know how helpful this was. Sorry about that, dude. The best advice I can give is to just keep practicin. Everythin seems intimidating at first. Ya just gotta take the stride forward and keep tryin. It doesn't matter where you are with backgrounds now, bcuz with an effort made you'll see improvement each n every time. I've seen some of your stuff, man, I know you got this shit. Good luck!

Hey, I wanna say i really really like the way you write fics. It feels??? Natural?? To read it?? Always an adventure everytime I read a fic of yours.

How do you write so good?? I'm a writer as well and I'd love to hear your tips and tricks ^^

First of all, I wanna thank you for liking the crap stuff I write. (Cause I'm genuinely amazed some times that people just like it and I'm not saying this because.)

⚠️⚠️LONG AND POSSIBLE CONTROVERSIAL ANSWER AHEAD ⚠️⚠️

It's kinda funny, ngl. Lemme tell you something, I don't know if you guys struggle with Impostor Syndrome a lot like me, but everytime someone gives a compliment like this my brain just goes into self sabotaging mode.

Cause I'm aware that I can do better. (And we will ~) it's weird. I'm always striving to do better.

As for the tips and tricks, I'm surely not the right person to ask advice from 😅, but Imma just tell you this from what I experience and from my perspective (Hopefully won't get backlash from this, if not, R. I. P. me jsksj) Be warned though, it's kinda contradictory cause writing is hard yo!

1. You gotta read. Either books or whatever your favorite genre is, but you gotta read. I consume fan fics and non fanfics cause you learn from other people too. I read fanfics mostly to know new words, how the character develops and the like.

I read more spanish stuff than anything. Which I try to transfer to what I write.

2. I try to keep it as simple as possible. With that I mean to not over embellish words cause it gets boring and weird. Sure, everyone wants to make their fanfics pretty (nothing wrong in that) but sometimes I feel that less is more. Like, nothing wrong if you wanna poet the f- out of your fic. (THIS IS A DOUBLE EDGED ONE SO BE CAREFUL!!)

I mean there is a huge difference in reading:

"The anger and frustration on her way of living was taking a toll on her mind"

and:

"Her nemesism had muddled her mind into an endless spiral of what ifs and what not, and frankly if her mind could speak, it'd beg for a break."

It's hard to pick one style, but as long as you keep it consistent, I guess it's all good (?) (Funny cause I always aim for the second one and end up in the first jsksj and I dont even know myself if I'm keeping it consistent)

3. Get yourself a beta reader that doesn't coddle you. It helps alot!!!! Cause again, compliments sure are nice, but they don't tell you where you could get better. ✨( Unless the reader provides puntual feedback on what they liked and what not. Those are my favorites and a rare gem ❤️)

4. I know this one is hard because everyone at some point have done this. But IF YOU COMPARE yourself to other writers? You'll lose yourself. Not only you'll lose motivation cause you seem unable to write like them, but you will fall into this... vicious circle of self deprecating and burnout. And the self doubt sky rockets nonstop.

Everyone is different. Everyone learns in a different pace. Trust me, I wanted to make great stories with a good looking writing when I had the slightest idea of what I was doing (Still do!) 😂. Writing fanfics is not a competition to who writes more beautiful/good/professional than others. Or who has more notes or the most canon-stuck character, or the cause let's face it, none will get a character's personality to a 100%!!! (And that's ok cause it's fanfiction and we all have a different approach to the character either emotional or mental) .

Personally for me, the cockyest thing someone can do is to claim to know a character more than the creators themselves. Kinda rude for me, if you ask . Like, sure feeling a deep connection with a character doesn't mean it'll grant us instant access to their whole self. Characters just like us evolve. Either for the good or the bad, but they don't remain the same, so knowing them completely is a big fat lie. Unless stated by the creator. (But we're delusional in this site, so~)

I mean, sure characterization is something we all struggle since we guide ourselves by some of the character's most prominent traits and make them their default personality. (I've sinned in this jsksj so don't worry)

5. HAVE FUN AND TAKE BREAKS. I mean it. The favorite things I've written is where Im genuinely having fun writing it. But also after a well deserved rest. Cause if something doesn't feel right, it won't be right. And burnout is easier to get at than we actually think.

6. I recently started to follow writing advice blogs, one of my favorite @heywriters.

@she-who-fights-and-writes. (They have amazing writing resources, so does Pinterest and YouTube. Seize them!!!)

But yeah, I'm still an amateur on this, I make emphasis in the 5th one tho.

You seriously just feel for the guys, they doing everything they can, only for it to fail or be meet with the gut punching situation.

Paper Hearts and how it came to be

Hi everyone this a post nobody asked for, but I really wanted to make. I admit that I was inspired to make this after reading the afterword of the Embers of Sun and Flame by @thoughtfullyrainynightmare.

Paper Hearts spoilers - not plot specific, but overall concepts. I wanted to reveal a bit of how it actually happened that I came up with it and I can tell you it was a journey.

3 main points below and then I will expand:

Noelle and Nozel are my favorite characters, while Noelle finds herself and becomes happy. Nozel... we don't really know much about, but we know that he's been not great.

SILVA REDEMPTION - it was supposed to be a redemption story since the beginning. I wanted to give all the Silvas a more "human" outlook. A chance to make mistakes and change for the better. A chance to become a family.

The story did not start with Helena. She was "created" for the Silvas, to help them grow and learn. I couldn't do this with an already existing character without changing canon. Helena sees the whole BC (literally 5-170 episodes, plus a bit of manga until the Spade Raid) story from her perspective, a new perspective and gives an outlook on what the Silvas did then. However she developed as a whole well rounded character with her strengths, quirks and flaws. 💕

Nozel x OC

Nozel was in the dark for a long time. A cave filled with perfectionism, guilt, self loathing and unhealthy ambition. A very cold place. (a tiny reference to Allegory of the Cave by Plato, obviously this is a slightly different case)

I know he would not so easily get out of his cave towards the light

He needed to be "forcefully pulled out of it" and that's where a nosy, cheerful, talkative, very stubborn and at times annoying OC comes in

She helps him see the light in the outside world, by teaching him how to simply have fun, but also notice the good inside himself.

She pulls him out to that "shining light" and that's how her name came to be -> Helena meaning sun ray, torch, shining light

Nozel is by no means weak in this story, on the contrary I want to show him as a strong character who found some ways to cope with his past even though they were certainly not the best ones. However he is able to grow and learn (such as admitting, that he was wrong, or being vulnerable with time).

Silva redemption

We've seen moments, literal snippets of Nebra and Solid acting not like the last pieces of trash (when Nebra checks up on Solid, when he's hurt, Nebra realising that she is an obstacle after she's hurt, or when Solid tells Noelle to go to the shadow palace, little more besides that) and I think that to each other they were never that awful. I wanted to expand on that.

So let's introduce Helena, but hey they will treat her awful if she's below them in social hierarchy -> let's make her a princess with a lot of mana

A princess? which house? She's supposed to have a "fresh view" -> she has to be a foreginer

Foreigner?! Are you kidding?! they will eat her alive (I mean they did xd) -> There has to be some familiarity and how better to achieve that then through Acier, thus Luciana (Helena's mom) and Acier were best friends and Helena is actually half clover half diamond

She has to warm up the atmosphere -> once again the little light. Helena becomes friends with Nebra (Nebra learns how to treat a friend well), and she cares for Solid like a little brother (somebody will bite back and he will learn respect), Nozel... you know the story and with Noelle you will see how it goes.

However there will be more to their growth then just Helena and sometimes she will simply witness the changes

They are assholes to lower class people -> Helena is not, but why? even though she is a princess -> backstory time ;)

Nozel, Nebra and Solid are STILL very much ASSHOLES in Paper Hearts!!! I just give them an additional face and a chance to grow over time, to be more than that.

Character growth

people make mistakes, and these characters will make them in Paper Hearts, but they will learn and grow because of them

This story will be long, because it will not rush through changes. They happen over time and a year and a half is a lot. I want these to be natural.

Helena

her character was explained a bit earlier, she has to counter the cold of the Silvas and be full of life

She comes from a big, warm family so she can show the Silvas how does a healthy family life look like

She has FLAWS, quite a few actually, because people are not perfect and that's what makes them special and beautiful. She's supposed to be relatable.

Helena is not traumatised, depressed or broken. She has her past and it affected her, but she's learnt a lesson instead of letting it control her.

Another reason for why she is a princess -> I've always had a hard time picturing Nozel being long term with someone outside of nobility. Not because of arrogance, but simply responsibilities. Helena knows how to take care of a house, knows Royal customs and will be a good lady of the house, someone Nozel can lean on in his duties, who understands how important it is to carry the name. So they have some similar values and backgrounds helping them understand one another. Especially at the beginning of the story, when he would simply not talk to anyone below his status and that's when Helena was introduced. (also based on the assorted questions brigade that's his type)

Helena's hispanic -> I simply love hispanic characters, spanglish is a fun addition to the story (my friend pointed out to me, that I may have been subconsciously inspired by Lance from Voltron)

Helena's looks -> I wanted her to have that sun kissed, hispanic look

Her eyes are dark brown, almost black -> I wanted a silver haired baby with super dark eyes 😍 (that's Natalia and literally the only reason for Helena's eye color)

She wears red -> the red blue dynamics, although they kind of flipped, because usually the blue are funny and silly, while the red grumpy, but you know what I mean

There's a four years difference between her and Nozel, I wanted her to be a bit younger so that she would have an easier time connecting with the younger Silvas (there's 1 year between her and Nebra) and overall Helena is filled with that "youthful vigor"

her perspective is new and fresh, she's a foreigner and we learn about Clover with her

Paper magic... that's a lot to unpack especially since you don't know (she doesn't either) how her spells develop yet -> let's say I wanted her to be "weak" at the beginning and paper seems pretty timid and the "blank page" metaphor (song unwritten fits her so well). You have to trust me that Paper Magic was very carefully and deliberately thought through.

Helena has not and never will become a magic knight. She's supposed to be different than Nozel and have her own thing, which is healing. This also is relevant towards her not changing canon, but being able to interact with it.

Why Diamond out of all the suit kingdoms? -> You'll see xd (forever in the future though 🥲), but it came with the development of the story. As I said Paper Hearts started with the Silvas then branched out. However I do have some Diamond Kingdom lore.

CANON

this story is written in a way that it could happen in the show

meaning Helena is watching something but not interacting where the "BC camera rolls"

I need to rewatch quite a bit while writing, but I'm not complaining (okay the festival chapters were hard and there were times when I wrote a scene only to be like "No! This character can't be here!" and I had to delete it 😭 "bye bye funny scene")

I wanted for you to see what the Silvas are doing, while BB are on their adventures

So it can be the reader's favorite game -> I wonder what is Helena doing in this part of the series?

assorted questions brigade is my literal guidebook (Nozel is a lightweight, socks on during sex 😁)

Actually writing

I haven't written anything in YEARS

I've never finished a fic

I was self conscious about my stories and how I wrote characters (terrified that people will say "oh they would not act this way at all!")

writing is still one of the most personal things I have (it lies closer to my heart even than my art)

Miraculously I opened up and told my not BC friend the main plot of Paper hearts story -> she said "it's good write it" -> that same evening I had the first chapter drafted

That's why I explain literally everything in Paper Hearts (you're getting specific descriptions of how each character looks like). I want her to be able to read it without her needing to watch the show. So it's written that non BC people will understand it and people who are just watching won't get spoilers, because I give spoiler warnings.

Those who know BC see the foreshadowing, little hints and easter eggs, so it's just as fun.

Humor

I love humor

I laugh so much while writing this story and I do my best to make it really funny

Helena is hilarious

And the sunshine x grumpy relationships are my favorite

so Helena and Nozel deliver me so much content

Besides there are Finral and Vanessa

Finral and Vanessa

I love them

They are an amazing trio with Helena, so funny too

I wanted to let the readers know what's happening in BC and keep them in a loop where we are with the BC storyline, so they tell Helena about their adventures

Obviously there is much more to them than being a source of information

Platonic relationships

This story will have a lot of them, such as relationships between Helena and each one of the younger Silva siblings, or mentioned above Finral and Vanessa

It is a romance, but also much more

There are quite a few chapters in which Nozel is just not present and they're still fun, but focus on different things

Hard topics

there are and will be some tougher, more angsty chapters and sadder ones as well

BC story has its ups and downs in terms of characters well being. It can't be happy all the time.

Once again PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES

I want them to learn from them

Action

I actually found out writing fight scenes is not awful

so I describe them (wait for the elf reincarnation arc chapters...😁)

Romance

This is obviously a romance, spicy, funny, thoughtful, lovable and at some points relatable, but it also has its downsides

Helena and Nozel don't miraculously fall in love, they learn it and it happens over time, they become "friends before lovers" it's natural.

Yhm sexual tension -> a lot, this story is rated mature for a reason!

I'm really just goofing around with this, but it makes me so happy

Other ships

i know they're not there yet

but they will be in the right time of BC storyline

Helena is too nosy to not butt into other relationships and not be a matchmaker or something...

I just wanted to give some love to the characters I like and won't really gallop of canon, but they will have some cute scenes (not all the ships I like though, that would be too much, so I chose those fitting the plot, very sadly no Greyche, no MagLuck 😭, maybe mentions of them though)

Canon is the reason why I'm doing mostly "canonic" ships

Other characters that appear

This story ends up being not Helena x Nozel, not Helena x Silvas, but Helena x BC characters overall

it's funny and interesting how they interact

And I want to show some love to other still amazing characters, who just did not find their place in my top of the top, or did not really fit the plot of this fic as mains

Development

writing this story is a process

and I have it plotted out, so everything really does happen for a reason. I'm not changing the plot whatsoever since I came up with it and it was before setting up Ao3 or this tumblr account.

but then there are some little things, which I don't see coming and an additional chapter appears (I'm loosing control over the length of this story)

The "story tells you what it wants" and I follow it, so the chapter details are not set in stone

I also realised I can't write short chapters any more, so it prolongs the story too and sometimes I need to split them in two (for example the festival chapter was supposed to be in 1 mayeeebe 2 -> it's in three, elf reincarnation was supposed to be one -> it's in three)

But I think that what's in there is necessary, interesting and just fun so i won't make this story shorter on purpose, that's not the point

Illustrations

They happened. There's nothing to explain here. I just like to draw. I've read two fics with illustrations and I found them fun. I wasn't planning on illustrating every Paper Hearts chapter, but it may happen.

I'm truly exploring what I can do with my art in those illustrations so they are made in multiple styles, at different points in time and they differ greatly.

The title/s

You will understand why Paper Hearts, when I finally will get to a chapter titled this way

It's obviously connected to Helena's paper magic

Each chapter title matters -> I spend a lot of time on thinking them through and they greatly foreshadow what will happen, a lot of times in metaphorical ways

They are made in a specific style "The ...." -> I just thought it would be fun to stay consistent

I might be biased, but it's just true. Chanté: This was Gbemi’s last scene of the season. It was hard. While most of us were going back to LA and NY, Gbemi was going back to London and that broke my heart. I tried to get her to move next door so we could see each other everyday and raise our kids together but she couldn’t 😭 Gbemi: Still tryna make it happen 😭😭 Will: This is the scene in the whole show that makes me cry the most, because you can see them realizing they've never said goodbye before. Chanté Adams and Gbemi Ikumelo are geniuses. Will: The score from Zach and Nick and Deantoni here is just amazing.

Will: There is a story about how this speech was filmed. HOW DO YOU WANT THIS TO END? Abbi kills it here. Will: Okay. I'll tell you the story! We shot the reaction half of this scene on the field, and then it started raining. So Abbi had to shoot her side of it a week later, on a platform in the middle of the street outside Toni's house. Will: She is yelling at the crew mostly. It was amazing. She's so talented. Will: Rob the bank! Has become our unofficial motto for the process of making the show too.

*deep breath* Okay. In that case, buckle the fuck up.

For all I know, there might be canon lore or word from the creator that entirely debunks this idea. If so, please feel free to tell me directly! I love discussion with other fans, and don't take it personally if a theory i back turns out to be incorrect!

(and honestly somewhere along the way I realized I DO NOT have the spell slots necessary to put my full thesis down, so sadly you're only getting the cliffnotes and some shitty visuals I made instead.) But before I get into it, I'd like to put a warning for those tempted to keep reading: This is the sort of pretentious plot twist spoiler that (depending on your tastes) might make the experience of MILGRAM a lot less fun for you just by knowing/considering it. As such, please use discretion before clicking on the read more. But! I don't think it'll spoil anything to state the basic premise.

The truth is deceptively simple: MILGRAM is a work of fiction set up so that us, the audience, get to influence the characters present in the narrative, thus directly influencing everything that happens, via the cast/crew reacting to our decisions according.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if you some of you think I'm joking or wondering how that in any way counts as a theory.

Part 1: A Cosmic Horror Story(ish) by Any Other Name

In which case, lemme shift the spotlight from the audience's perspective of Milgram to the character's experience of it:

While they don't realize it, the characters of MILGRAM are intentionally constructed beings, within an intentionally constructed universe. Which isn't to say that they, as characters, don't have thoughts and feelings. Their lives and experiences and crimes are just as real as everything else around them. But! Seeing as all of that is fictional, that's... debatable, at best.

They were all created (for the purpose of entertainment) by a force/entity that is basically all-powerful within their universe, but is almost entirely passive in nature. Or to put it another way: It's the cast/crew of MILGRAM that makes this whole narrative exist, but they're always gonna stay in the background of the story. The focus is always on the characters and how they deal with all this.

Past the force that created them, there is one other group of entities that exists outside the character's universe. It's these beings who actively engage with them, through means that go beyond the physical. ie; that us, the audience!! We vote, engage in theorycrafting, and talk about the characters to the point where oh shit they might be going a little insane from hearing us, actually.

Part 2: Other Helpful (and Very Shitty) Visual Aids, Without Context

Part 3: "Wait, so that means we shouldn't have been vot-" Lemme stop you there

With all this in mind, the conclusion most people would immediately come to would be "So this really was just the creators redoing the Milgram experiments, and our only ethical option is to not vote at all!"

Which, no.

Though we might largely have the most direct say in how things go down, the creators can still weigh in if we refuse to play by their rules.

For example, where you here when Haruka's 2nd Trial vote went down? Because, while I wasn't, I have seen the comments people posted during and after that time period.

That is to say, people were trying really hard to get him to a 50/50 tie stall, thus breaking the system - it was only right near the end that the poll hard shifted towards guilty.

Something similar (but a lot more shitposty) happened with Mikoto's first trial vote, too; apparently, the unspoken consensus was that everyone wanted Mikoto to be exactly 69% guilty (lol, never change folks). But, guess what? Right at the end - small shift towards innocent. Tragically ending The Meme Dream for everyone involved.

For all that we, the audience, are mostly in control of where things end up, the creators are more than willing to step in if we stop playing by their rules or don't take things seriously enough and shift votes one way or another depending.

Which means that all not voting does is put it in the creator's hands to decide - and, in that case, they could end up making the choice that you don't like.

So, for all it can feel icky for us voters to be C'thulu to the characters, depending on your outlook, trying to influence them can still be pretty important.

Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 206 Thoughts on Tengen

Kenjaku reveals that Tengen is keeping secrets from the main characters this chapter, but he’s interrupted by Yuki’s fists before he can reveal all of it. However, even before this there have been several hints that Tengen is not someone who can entirely be trusted. I’ll be going over them underneath the cut. Remember, Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga about change. If the commonly held notion is to respect your elders, then in Jujutsu Kaisen you should always disrespect your elders and never trust them.

1. Tengen is a sussy baka!

Jujutsu Kaisen has a lot of details, and occasionally the amount of plot information dumped on us can get overwhelming (for instance Hakari’s intricate technique being explained all at once). However, sometimes as an author you can use the sheer volume of information given all at once to hide an important detail. (For isntance, the real reason Hakari revealed his entire cursed technique to his opponent was so they would get hung up on the details and theycould overload their thinking, when really his technique is simply Roll ----> Jackpot.)

What I’m suggesting is that since Tengen’s introduction, Gege has had Tengen exhibit the sheer volume of what they knows to hide from both us the readers, and the main characters the clear wholes in his gaps in information.

Starting from Chapter 145, all of the main characters are so desperate for information and a plan against Kenjaku they take the help they have to offer and everything they have to say without questioning it. Even from a writing perspective, it is a little too convenient that Tengen is just an all knowing entity who can not only tell the main characters everything they need to know about Kenjaku, but also hand them the backside of the box in order to unseal Gojo. It’s a little too easy in a manga like Jujutsu Kaisen where everything is easy. The main characters were desperate for information so didn’t ask too many questions, so let’s do our jobs as readers and begin to poke holes in his story.

The first and most obvious is Tengen knew this was coming for years, asKenjaku has been trying to accomplish like this several times in the past, but chose not to say or do anything, even twelve years ago after both Geto Suguru and Toji appeared and apparently esaceped fate and that allowed Kenjaku’s plan to move forward when it had been thwarted twice beforehand by that same fate (the six eyes and star plasma vessels he killed in infancy is reborn again just in time to defeat him).

How exactly did that happen? Is there an omniscient god in Jujutsu Kaisen that controls when the six-eyes and the star plasma vessels are born. And this omniscient god is somehow incredibly against the idea of Kenjaku merging with Tengen. What else is controlled by fate? Does fate mean from the second the main characters are born their whole lives are laid out? Was it fated Kenjaku’s plans would never succeed and that a six-eyes and heavenly vessel would always appear to stop them... but that doesn’t make sense because in the same chapter fate was introduced it was also shown that Kenjaku could supposedly overcome this fate just by switching his plans.

The use of the word “Fate” should be a red flag right there, because what exactly does he mean by fate in this context? Is predetermination a thing in Jujutsu Kaisen? If the reason Tengen didn’t say anything was because of “Fate”, well then Kenjaku has already proven that fate can be broken by people like Toji who exist outside of cursed energy, and fate has exceptions. Tengen has also evolved over the past twelve years to the point where they could allow people inside his barrier and speak to them, but they chose to wait until the culling games had already begun to start sharing his knowledge with people to try to avert Kenjaku’s plans. They could have done this way earlier... and just didn’t.

“Fate” would imply there is some kind of pre-destination at work in Jujutsu Kaisen, and yet that can’t be the case because it also implies the free will of characters don’t matter. I mean it’s already proven to be faullty, whatever “fate” is Kenjaku has already overcome it to move forward with his plans. Does “Fate” mean that whatever Tengen himself can see because of how all-seeing they are in regards to cursed energy? Can Tenten see the future and that’s fate? Can Tengen see the actions of everyone in the world tied to curse energy and that’s fate?

I want to mention that no one else in Jujutsu Kaisen even talks about Fate, the possibility that there is a fate controlling everything isn’t even brought up by any other character until Tengen mentions him.

When Toji escaped fate it was due to his heavenly restriction thus making him someone Tengen can’t see the actions of? When we mention that fate was destroyed by heavenly restriction, ae see the breaking of chains, does that mean that Toji is a breaker of fate simply because Tengen can’t see him or manipulate him since he has no connection to cursed energy?

I want to mention that Heavenly Restrictions are revealed by Gege in a databook as things that can’t be controlled. They appeared in the Zenin Clan twice through completely random coincidence, and also multiples can exist at once as Toji and Maki with the same heavenly restriction can exist at the same time. Why is it that only one Star Plasma Vessel and only one Six-Eyes can exist? Is that just fate too? Or, is someone making it so only one Six-Eyes exists at a time, but they always happen to be born whenever Tengen conveniently needs them to stop Kenjaku’s plans.

The chains that Toji broke also are used regularly as symbols of binding vows. We are also told that Kenjaku’s plans advanced because he spent thousands of years making binding vows with sorcerers so they would reincarnate in the present and make the culling games happen.

So, what if what Toji broke was not “Fate” but simply a binding vow. Tengen is a mirror to Kenjaku, they are both sorcerers who are over a thousand years old, who maintain their immortality by sacrifcing other people specifically rather than just submit to their mortality. Kenjaku also, controls people en masse and brings his plan forward with binding vows. What if what Tengen calls “Fate” is merely just several binding vows they put in place one thousand years ago, to maintain the order of the world in a way they sought fit.

Fate, implies that there is some sort of direction in all of these events beyond coincidence, but could Fate just be the will of Tengen? Tengen observes the world and it’s mentioned by Kenjaku they don’t t really act much other than observing and maintaining barriers , but we see him contradict that twice, one is that they demand the sacrifice of young people to stop their evolution, and the second is that completely throws fate and neutrality out the window by accepting Yuki Tsukumo and the others in and giving them the tools to stop Kenjaku’s plans when they have been totally neutral before. Which means Tengen can interfere with the world, and could have interfered with the past despite his claims to be totally neutral. If they can act, then there may be a selfish interest to Tengen’s actions as well.

Tengen’s demand of sacrifice for the Star Plasma vessel also reflects a common theme with the story of the elders continually sacrificing young people in order to uphold “Tradition” when they really mean their positions of power. What is “Tradition” if not another word for “Fate” something you are supposed to go along with without questioning and fighting against simply because that’s the way things have always been. I just want to make it clear that the idea of “Fate” itself is heavily against the themes of Jujutsu Kaisen, and wasn’t even brought up until Tengen started speaking.

The second, is that Tengen’s evolution is obviously dangerous to the world and yet they haven’t even tried to kill themselves and end their lifespan. In the same chapter where they talk about undoing the seal on the prison they also reveals two possible methods they could have used to end his immortality if it comes from his cursed technique.

Both Megumi and Yuji also draw attention to the fact that Gojo already disposed of two of those methods and how weird and inconvenient that is for them, but we’re never actually given an exact answer why he would destroy both of those cursed artifacts (except the Black Rope when he was fighting against Miguel that was probably just done in the heat of battle). There is the answer that Gojo just threw away the only weapons that had a chance of hurting him, but if that was the answer the manga could have just told us that. There’s the possibility that Gojo had contact with Tengen and was ordered to get rid of the Inverted Spear of Heaven as it’s the only thing that could plausibly used to end their life.

There’s also the fact that Tengen made a huge emphasis on continually sacrificing Star Plasma Vessels for generations in order to stop his evolution, and prevent him from merging with the world and then when Riko was killed they simply decided... not to and continued their evolution.

Yuki remarks that quite literally they sacrificed Star Plasma vessels for years, and if stopping his evolution was so necessary they could have just sacrificed another person to stop it, and yet suddenly eleven years ago they imply decided not to. When Yuki calls him out on this specifically, theygive her no answer at all. Almost as if once again they concealing the reason why they were suddenly okay with not going through with the murder and evolving further.

Not only is there something cruel about demanding what was basically human sacrifice of young girls (people’s?) lives for years in order to prevent an evolution when there were ways of Tengen killing themselves if their existence was such a threat to humanity, but they also decided that they could have just stopped it eleven years ago and evolved anyway making the whole act of sacrificing girls pointless. It’s no coincidence that eleven years ago was also the first time that Tengen observed that fate could be broken, there was something of a turning point for Kenjaku’s plans eleven years ago could Tengen witnessing the events of eleven years ago also have realized there was a window for them to begin plotting something too?

In the first chapter we learn about the ritual of sacrificing bodies to become the next star plasma vessels, it’s even brought up that in the worst case scenario Tengen could become an enemy to humanity. And even before that it’s mentioned that Tengen’s existence isn’t necessary. They just make it so that there are barriers protecting the school and keeping them hidden from the public. Also, without Tengen, Sorcerers would still exist and so would barriers Tengen merely strengthens them. It’s also, not a world ending phenomena if Tengen no longer exists because in the first place sorcerers only exist in strong enough concentration in japan.Yuki also mentions that Tengen optimizes cursed energy, so it might be his fault that there are so many cursed spirits and cursed sorcerers to begin with in comparison to the rest of the world.

Okay, so this is admittedly a reach but there was something that always bothered me about Toji’s sudden appearance and killing Riko. Geto even mentions that it’s strange Toji showed up practically out of nowhere when they were supposed to be safe once they reached Jujutsu High. That it’s impossible for Toji to have shown up here.

The explanation that Toji gives is that when he enters the barrier because he has no cursed energy he’s essentially invisible. Geto even mentions that it’s like heavenly restriction, that Toji probably didn’t reveal all the cards he was hiding or how he got in.

We also never get an answer on what happened to the maid who was also inside the Jujutsu Barrier. Toji just mentions that she’s probably dead, but he doesn’t say whether or not he killed her. I’m just saying, given what we know about how Tengen can create and manipulate barriers to keep people out there’s something off about this scene (where did the maid go that was never answered?) My point is that Tengen has shown he can keep people outside of the barrier like Kenjaku, he creates a lot of barriers to buy time and prevent others from outside entry.

So, either he can’t keep Toji out, or didn’t see him because Toji is not connected to cursed energy, and Toji found the entrance because he remembered either his Jujutsu Academy days or his memories as the Zenin Clan, or someone let him in. Like I said, this is a reach, but there’s always been something off to me about this scene, all Toji really explains is how he got by undetected, not how he got in to begin with. He also says he can’t be seen by the six eyes, he never says he can’t be seen by Tengen. Toji may have known the entrance because of his time with the Zenin and Jujuts High, but apparently the entrance to Tengen’s store room isn’t common information. Kenjaku says really early on when the concept of Tengen is first introduced that only Tengen knows the entrance to his storeroom.

Okay, that was my weakest argument but now onto a stronger one we have evidence where Tengen straight up lies to the main characters, on the purpose of the ritual for the culling game. To begin with Kenjaku says that the Culling Games are essentially already finished as a ritual and Choso is surprised by this information because it’s not what Tengen told them.

Which means that this bit of information is either a lie of omission, an outright lie, or a manipulation on Tengen’s part. Kenjaku himself mentions that Tengen didn’t reveal something about the culling games to them. My bet is on a misdirection, because when they revealed this informationto lead the main characters to believe they have to enter the culling games in order to disrupt the ritual.

What better way to keep all of the main characters and sorcerers who could possibly stop Tengen’s hidden agenda busy, then to lead them all to the culling games and make them believe that is their only way forward, and when they are busy fighting in the culling games, which Kenjaku mentions is pointless because the purpose of the culling game ritual is already complete. Kenjaku can just bust in now, and head forward with the fusion and the evolution. H

To add onto this, Tengen forces Choso and Yuki to stay behind as guards posted on his door, almost as if they new everyone else would be busy at the culling games and Kenjaku would come knocking on his door a lot sooner before anything they could do in the culling games could make a difference. Send the rest away to the culling games as a distraction, but keep two to thwart Kenjaku’s efforts towards him and if Kenjaku is foiled that leaves Tengen free to pursue his own ends. They knew Kenjaku was coming and earlier than everyone expected so like... why not go with the better strategy of lay a trap and have everyone at once attack him and totally destroy the threat. Kenjaku came early, and the culling game ritual was already completed which it implies that Tengen knew about and kept a secret. Kenjaku even refers to Choso and Tsukumo Yuki as the expendable front line. What if they are just there to buy time for Tengen to do whatever they want to do, because stopping Kenjaku isn’t really his priority so much as advancing his own agenda.

Everyone of the main characters who knew about Tengen has remarked how wrong the ritual of the Plasma Vessel was, and this is why I drew such emphasis on how the story questioned itself why Toji could get into the Jujutsu High Barrier but didn’t really provide a solid answer.

Toji wasn’t the only one who wanted to stop the merger. Geto and Gojo already came to the decision that if Riko didn’t want to go forward, they would protect her even if it meant fighting and killing master Tengen. Here we have a possible reason for why Tengen might have either let Toji in, or informed him of where the entrance to the barrier was, because no matter what either Riko getting killed by Toji, or Geto and Gojo deciding not to go forward with the ritual and protecting her the ritual was never going to happen. In this case it makes sense for Tengen to adjust his plans. Tengen even mentions that Toji also wasn’t the only one who broke fate, Geto himself has the ability to manipulate cursed spirits.

So, whether Geto and Gojo took Riko and ran, or Toji killed her his evolution wasn’t going to happen no matter what. Also, Tengen is all knowing so he probably saw Geto and Gojo plotting this. Then, we also draw attention to the fact once they’ve evolved it makes him vulnerable to cursed spirit manipulation, because they are more cursed spirit than human at this point.

So not only would Tengen have a fight with Geto and Gojo if they took Riko and ran, but also Tengen would be uniquely vulnerable to Geto killing him, because Geto has cursed spirit manipulation. Then, it makes sense to go with the option that would preserve his life. Let Toji in, he kills Riko but like Tengen said Riko wsn’t absolutely necessary for him to stop the evolution, and apparently stopping the evolution wasn’t the world ending threat he thought it was because they were fine going along with it anyway, and then on top of that Toji is likely to kill both Geto and Gojo who are the people who actually have a shot at killing him.

As I established earlier in the post if Tengen needs human sacrifice to preserve his life, if they were so selfless a person they should have sought out ways to kill themeselves after living several life spans, especially since the world can continue on living without him but as they are still alive represents a significant threat to the world, but instead he demands others die so they can continue living.

We have already seen Tengen can manipulate, hide information, and take selfish interests to his actions so it’s not beyond the scope of possibility he just let Toji in because that suited his interests better.

It’s also been brought up twice now, that Tengen is bluffing about the purpose of the culling game, first Reggie tells Megumi way more information than Teengen ever told any of them, the second that Kenjaku himself mentions he is concealing information.

Megumi’s theory is that Tengen was secretly in league with Kenjaku, but that’s proven wrong, however, it’s not entirely proven wrong that Tengen is manipulating information he just might have a plan that’s entirely opposite to Kenjaku’s plan. Which Kenjaku himself seems to confirm that Tengen is not someone to be trusted.

The last point isn’t something I even thought of but was posted by a redditor, right here. (Check out their post too it’s really good we make similiar points though I think they wrote it before this week).

Lastly, there is still the established traitor who is said to be among the higher ups. Even though I personally suspect Tsukumo isn’t on their side either, I believe she’s not a higher up just because she’s a special grade sorcerer; Okkotsu isn’t just because he’s special grade. Gojo is a clan leader, so his case would be different, but he couldn’t investigate the higher ups as far as we know. I think it gets overlooked that for this higher up in question to survive, a young person has to be sacrificed every so often, just like Haibara had to get sacrificed for other Jujutsu higher ups to maintain their order.

I totally forgot, we have one more traitor among the higher ups that was feeding Kenjaku and allies information which hasn’t been revealed yet, and there’s no way that Gege has forgotten because he can bring plot points up that have been mentioned and foreshadowed like a hundred chapters ago.

The first mole is Koichi, the second mole is someone even higher up than the principals that Koichi is leaking cursed energy too. It’s probably not Tsukumo because she doesn’t agree with Kenjakus views. We literally have no other characters who are higher than the principals, except the nameless elders. Kenjaku took over the Kamo clan to influence, but he didn’t do that until after the Culling Games had already begun. Also, consider what Koichi’s ability was, he had an insane amount of cursed energy that even allowed him to project his cursed energy and communicate with it long distance. Which would make him really ideal, for contacting someone like Tengen, who I have theorized can either see all cursed energy, or observe the world from afar, and controls things like barriers from really long distance enough to exclude certain people and let people in.

Those are all the points I have to make, like I said check out the other post they touch some things that I don’t, but I hope it’s understandable we shouldn’t trust Tengen. Also, as the other post mentions someone like Tengen could make an ideal final boss after Kenjaku is defeated. Kenjaku just doesn’t stirke me as a final villain as a lot of his plans seem to amount to “let’s blow things up for funsies.” Also if you beieve that Jujutsu Kaisen follows a three act structure then we have. Mahito as the final villain of the first act-> (who is then abosrbed into Kenjaku) Kenjaku is the villain of the second act -> and Tengen the final villain of the third act of the story.

There is of course Sukuna, but Sukuna doesn’t strike me as a villain more like a character with his own agenda, and he’s said several times he doesn’t really care about the rest of the world just his own personal plans. He doesn’t seem like someone who wants to change the world, but Mahito wanted to create a world of cursed spirits, Kenjaku wants to force the evoltuion of humanity to the next level, so we have to ask ourselves what kind of world does Tengen want to create?

YAY thank you sm for the ask marz!!

3: Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic

hoo boy okay. so these are WILDLY different processes for me because i usually don’t do chaptered fics. that is because my usual process is getting inspiration, and before i lose that, writing a draft. what makes certain fics take way longer is when i CANT get through a whole draft without losing inspiration and then i have to just keep coming back to it. at that point i read through it and change details, add details, and refine, and once i’ve refreshed my memory on what the flow of the story is, i’ll try to add on. sometimes i can add a lot, sometimes i can only add little bits at a time, so fics will drag out from initial conception to actually being published. for my only chaptered fic, i am still struggling with that second part, where i need to keep going back and working on it. so hi, if you’re wondering if and i ache is EVER going to be updated, the answer is hopefully. the difference is that for that fic specifically, I HAVE AN OUTLINE WRITTEN. granted it’s a very simple outline but i rarely write down an actual outline, i just make a roadmap for myself in my head. i may actually try to start integrating that for longer fics like the still-in-purgatory exterminators au, as those tend to be more complicated and it would PROBABLY be helpful to not have it in my head. in any case, my process is usually to just keep going back to it over and over again and picking at little bits of it, changing something here, adding something there, until i feel it’s in as good a shape as it can be. if i’m stuck feeling like it’s not great but i don’t know how to fix it OR i just feel like having an outside perspective i will sometimes loop my friends into it and ask them for some feedback :)

23: Best writing advice for other writers?

oh, god. okay. i don’t feel like i’m very qualified to be handing out advice, really, i’m just some guy who writes stories i like about characters i like. okay. hm. i think what makes stories better though is definitely get some fresh eyes on it! get some feedback from people who DO know what they’re doing. ask your writer friends to look at it and tell you what they think is lacking or needs changing. that honest to god has improved my writing a lot. other than that, though, i think reading different kinds of writing, good writing, good fanfiction that rivals novels but also REAL novels, different authors, different genres, whatever. that will improve your writing because you’ll have a much more varied pool of inspiration to pull from AND you’ll expand your vocabulary, vary your sentence structure, learn new ways of expressing yourself. of course i’m not good at following my own advice because finding time to sit down and read is HARD for me BUT i KNOW FOR A FACT that it makes you better. god knows my own work has been easier to complete/i’ve had more inspiration, i’ve found the words flow easier, things sound better and more mature and less regurgitated, etc, when i’ve been reading other people’s work. but again like it has to be GOOD writing otherwise it’ll work in the opposite direction. read literature, kids.

allhaunting + semperfemina (as far as i’m concerned they’re a package deal and iirc they’re actually a married couple. anyways the dynamic they write changes slightly from fic to fic but it’s always realistically toxic and super interesting. plus they’re just really good writers. one of their fics’ endings makes me cry on a regular basis. anyways. it’s good give ‘em a look)

hard to decide on a concrete third…probably a tie between @agentcherricola /truefinches, present company/tiredstressed, and @discocritic . like YES i know only one of those three people i listed is actively writing dd fic rn and it’s you, marz, but i’ve been around for a long time by dd fandom standards. disco’s stuff is really good and solid and i feel bad for y’all that will never get to read the stuff of theirs that no longer exists on the internet /gen & matt’s got good stuff too plus we’re friends so i have to try and prod y’all to check his work out. OH and i almost forgot but @paralytic-states is another good friend of mine who i’d consider part of the remnants of the funpoison old guard still here on dd tumblr <3

last fic i read was Habit Forming by ros3bud009 and yes i would recommend it. if people were allowed to be gay on tv in the 60s this could have all happened in the show which should tell you something about how insane star trek already is <3 spirk nation

55: Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?

ghoul is my favorite character BUT. party is my favorite to write. that’s never really changed, theyre just fun because their perspective especially of themself oftentimes does NOT line up with reality and it’s fun to play with that. on the other hand i’ve started to really enjoy writing kobra and jet as well for fresh perspectives on things and also because it’s fun to get to write about different characters’ perspectives and motivations! like i mentioned in the last ask i got for this game character-driven stuff is my favorite to write :]

It's the perspective shift for me. This week we get to know Tinn in all his dorky, lovesick glory, and it is AMAZING. From the outside this story seems like the Big Man On Campus secretly in love with the weird slacker kid and hiding it for his rep, but then we get in Tinn's head and realise this is actually the story of the lonely nerd in love with the cool kid who barely knows he exists. They're nailing the high school romance archetypes on the head in this show so far.

Oh Tinn. Oh Tinn Tinn Tinn you are down HORRENDOUS. This week we discover that Tinn fell in love essentially because Gun was nice to him, and has been on a 'please notice me' tour for YEARS. He's now finally managed to get Gun's attention fixed on him, even if it's because he hates him, and he's so intoxicated by finally having Gun regularly interacting with him, he's absolutely set on going the distance. The 'be my servant' thing was nothing more than Tinn seizing a short-lived opportunity to make Gun do boyfriend things with him (you just know he was squeeing on the inside when Gun was feeding him), and hoping that would do the trick, but to no avail. Inevitably while the vinegar worked to grab Gun's attention, it's bitter for Tinn too, and he'd prefer to catch this fly with honey. So after a whole lot of shenanigans, he finally gives Gun a version of the truth: he wants to help him win Hot Wave, and he'll do whatever it takes for that to happen. He is about to WOO.

Man Tinn's parents are loving and involved...and also very wrapped up in their own shit. Who misses their kid's birthday for non-essential work? I'm sure they think Tinn is really grown up and mature and he makes them proud and he's a lovely, smart, independent, well-adjusted kid who never gave them a lick of trouble...but he also seems really lonely somehow. I wonder if Tinn crafted himself into this kid as cause or effect of his parents' benign neglect. They're busy people, and they love him, so he tries to be good and not make life hard for them. I feel like as things progress between him and Gun, the Tinn who emerges is gonna cause some angst with his parents.

So this show is actually Love Buddy: The Musical, complete with dream sequence performances, and it totally works because who HASN'T pretended they were in a music video in their head while singing a song they like, ESPECIALLY in high school?

Tiw continuing the finest Dr. Nam tradition of taking one look at his seemingly cool, actually a dweeb best friend like one (1) person and going 'on god we gon get you laid bruh'.

Tiw is also in possession of the only braincell in the ENTIRE student body apparently.

Watching Tinn's little rose get trampled and kicked around made me simultaneously laugh OUT LOUD and also feel really bad for him.

So Tinn lending the music club his dad's very expensive guitar without telling his dad is gonna come back and bite him yes?

Advice to Work on Yourself 🤷🏽‍♀️ in October 2023: Gemini

Regarding: 7 Cups

You need time alone more than anything, you could have up to seven different people giving you perspectives on how to do this or you should do that, regarding taking the next step in a relationship with someone. This includes finances, that’s the whole point of the reading, I don’t know if you two are looking to buy a house, move in together, maybe get engaged, something like that. You could be quietly keeping your options open and they’re not aware of that, and expect commitment instead. Financial conversations are not happening, and need to, because they’re important. Most of all, it’s like you just hand the reins over to someone else when it comes to decision making, and this person is reversed, Owl is reversed, they are not capable of making the *best* decision for YOU. You are.

For some, it’s family, for others, it’s a lover, and for most it’s everyone with a mouth right, they love to tell you how they do things, assuming you’ll just agree and do it too. You probably go along to get along most of the time, if you don’t really care about the subject matter it’s like sure we’ll buy this one kind of mustard (cuz I really don’t even care). But with some decision you’re making now, you’re needing to block out all outside voices. Even me, wtf do I know? I don’t 💯

You’re working together with someone, or they are with you, but it’s for the wrong reasons. If you’re seeing someone, they’re thinking about getting a place together, and you’re over here entertaining like 6 other people…suuure let’s do that (so not doing that). Doesn’t have to be that story but it’s for someone. For others, there are just a lot of options, houses, directions, choices in life. Especially if this person is financially dodgy, the topic needs to come up, what do you expect financially from your partner if you’re getting involved with them on a lease? For example. Better to figure that out first right?

You don’t care to make a decision, because you don’t care about any one thing, and don’t want to cut off one by one to commit fully to anything. A house, a lover, a shade of blue, whatever this is. You weren’t that invested in the first place. But you could be stuck with the outcome of it. 4 Swords is you needing a break, time out, time to think your own thoughts and come up with your own truths, that you do need to share eventually. Some of you could be breaking up. Others are telling family or whoever to back off. If you’re being pressured to do anything, it’s probably not in your best interest, and Spirit is saying you know what’s best for yourself, or will, so do that.

A side story, if you’re sick or dealing with some kind of illness, it can be others refuse to give you the space and time you need to rest and get better. They need to be told to fuck all the way off 💯 And you go to bed, get better ❤️‍🩹 You will gain all of the clarity you need when you’re alone, outside of others’ demands, desires, suggestions, etc. I do get most people having good intentions, trying to be helpful. There is one in particular I’m seeing a problem with, but you’ll know - High Priestess, your intuition has already fired off about this one.

You’ve lost perspective here because you either believe there’s something you absolutely need to have happen or else you’re simply being too stubborn to let go, step back, and take a fresh look at your circumstances. It’s the forest vs the trees dilemma. You’re too close to clearly discern the reality of what’s actually taking place. So make practice of detachment. Most people think of this as a cold, sterile way of responding, but nothing is further from the truth. It’s worse to remain so utterly involved and entangled that you lose perspective - and sometimes even yourself. it's morbidly funny to me that Bart, Tara and Cass Cain are three of the youngest heroes in the show and have been through The Worst Shit of basically all the characters. Cass? abused into being a weapon her whole life. Tara? kidnapped, meta-gene forcibly activated, brainwashed and abused into being a tool for the Shadows, her parents got murdered, her brother did That Shit. Bart? grew up in a apocalypse, been through who knows what, lost MULTIPLE family members. and none of them are even 18 yet

gonna answer this now cause this is exactly what went through my mind yesterday whilst i was putting together their pictures 😭 i was like damn, this sure is a special edition collection of trauma lol and the fact that the whole point was that they’re among the younger generation of heroes? it’s kind of insane

it also really puts things into perspective regarding bart’s background, like it’s not like Court and Steph had a problem free life, but being able to group him with Cass and Tara in comparison so easily based on some trauma scale, like it’s rough lol

seeing tara in phantoms was great cause it’s rlly nice to see her enjoy her new found freedom and life with support, it’s cute. And Cass too in Targets wearing civvies clothes was also sweet, like these girls finally get some type of semblance of peace. It’s the same as Bart in outsiders, just enjoying his life with friends. Like sure trauma is always interesting plot wise/for story telling/character development, but it’s refreshing to see good things going on in these peoples lives.

It’s interesting to note that with Cass and Tara, the Team are somewhat very much involved in their “origin story” and getting them out of there. So they’re quite familiar with what would be needed for them to heal and get settled down into a more stable life (Tara with therapy and Cass being taught how to communicate with ASL/read and write (based on ask greg)). Whilst in both their stories it was about them being given the opportunity of agency and they themselves ultimately making the right choice, the team still was involved in setting it up. Ultimately, it’s a way superior approach to their origin story (at the very least for Tara who’s infamous for hers in comics and for Cass well the agency plays less of a role for her and more for Barbara as to why she became Oracle, i think originally Cass made the decision entirely herself). But ultimately their stories can also be both explained with “oh they’re young, they deserve to be given this opportunity” which is a premise that YJ as a whole is largely based on. Because it’s about the original generation of the Team using their experiences to make the world a better place for future ones.

Whereas with Bart that isn’t the case, it’s almost practically in reverse. Like sure, we know he was enslaved, had to scavenge and got desensitised to death, but that’s all stuff from practically a different world that only he himself really knows of/experienced and no one else, like even we as the audience don’t know much about it. His escape was facilitated with his own agency (with help from Nathaniel) and he practically established the terms in how others got to help by playing the role of a messenger from the future. That’s what makes it so believable that even though time has passed at this point of the series and he’s clearly nicely integrated in the present, there’s still some type of underlying darkness around him, because despite him being a literal refugee from a post-apocalyptic world (which in itself sounds crazy), his backstory is more nuanced which adds to the eery factor. His whole backstory is also worth considering in terms of how important things like the Outsiders and the MHYC might be to him specifically, it’s the same type of reasoning as to why the Team also helped people like Tara and Cass. It’s not only that he wants to play hero, he has personal stakes in the weight of everything because he understands what difference that type of help explicitly does. And it must be the same for Tara in the Outsiders and Cass now in the Team.

i think all this is also a good way to show the weight and importance of agency itself, especially in the context of trauma and also explains why I HC Bart to be easily integrated in daily life without the need of therapy/much help from day 1. It’s not that he isn’t traumatised, but considering his constant exposure to it in growing up in such a world since birth for 13 years (Tara was royalty for most of her life, which must’ve made everything more shocking to her, Cass is more like Bart in that sense with the constant exposure, but had alot of her agency stripped away for so long, with Bart it’s unknown) as well as having control over his own choices in terms of his escape/planning, i think it makes a difference and also establishes why exactly he would have a high threshold of tolerating traumatic situations. This is basically all to explain desensitisation but yeah i wanted to get into the specifics of it lol

this all isn’t to compare traumas and all that, because that’s cheap lol, this is just to say that it’s crazy how all three characters can be considered “dark” using different approaches in both story telling and origins. I just think that’s really cool, because sometimes stories can get a bit repetitive with their development of jaded characters which ironically makes the story lose its edge. That’s why i really enjoy it and makes “reminder” moments like in Phantoms when he confronted the Legion all the more entertaining lol

so yeah, whoever took the time to read my word vomit, i hope u enjoyed it and would love to hear further thoughts on this if y’all have any :D

Lol don't feel like a beggar. I'm getting super eager to share the story already even though I'm not close to being done. I think that's why I posted two snippets completely unprompted this week.

I'll do you one better. I'll give you two snippets. In scenario one I actually have a lot of build up before the Quaritch family vacation even takes place detailing Spiders attempts to escape through the years. I tell the whole attempt from Spiders perspective and then go back and retell that whole event from Quaritch's perspective (and I'm low key worried that'll get tedious to read but I spent to much time writing it to edit it down)

So here's a taste of that

Miles jolted awake, the happiness he’d felt in his dream, instantly being replaced by sinking dread. The nightmares had started shortly after his two year anniversary in the cabin, increasing in frequency as the days went by. He only classified these dreams as nightmares because of the anxiety they spiked in his waking life. If Pa knew that he was reminiscing about the old days…..

Things had been so good between them too. Miles could almost pretend like they were a regular father and son, spending their summer on a camping trip, hunting in the woods, fishing, having bonfires, and sleeping under the stars when the weather allowed for it. It had all been so normal. So easy. Of course his treacherous brain would have to mess that all up.

The following morning Miles attempted to eat breakfast, his chin propped on his elbow, holding up his head as he struggled to stay awake. Pa’s calased hand reached out from behind him, carding through his hair, giving him affectionate scratches behind his ear. “You haven’t been sleeping well lately have you?” Miles simply nodded his head. “Something on your mind?” The question made his heart skip a beat but he forced it down, shaking his head no. “Is your room too stuffy then? We can sleep outside tonight if you want. You always like that.”

“I’m fine Pa.” his voice came out low, heavy with fatigue.

“Mmhm.” The man didn’t buy it, but didn’t continue pushing the subject. “Take a nap after you eat. Your school work and chores aren’t goin’ anywhere.” Neither am I, he thought bitterly. “Thanks Pa. I’ll do that.”

It was peak autumn when Miles Sr first noticed the vivid dreams his son would have. The boy talked in his sleep, smiling from ear to ear, mumbling their names. The names of that damn Sully family. He couldn’t understand why his boy seemed so hung up on them. From everything he had seen, from all the memories he heard play out in Junior’s sleep, the Sully’s hadn’t been that special. His boy had had fun, sure. The Sully’s hadn’t been very strict with him, allowing Junior to do almost anything he wanted. Any teenager would enjoy that. That wasn’t love though. Love is protecting the ones you care for, keeping them safe, taking care of them. He did that. So how could his son still miss them so much?

During waking hours Miles Sr watched his son like a hawk. Miles Jr looked so tired and sad, growing more despondent by the day. The father noted how his boy was eating less. How he was tired all day no matter how early his father sent him to bed. Junior wouldn’t even skateboard, or draw. He just seemed so weighted by his own misery. Miles Sr needed to help him snap out of it.

It was another lethargic morning after another sleepless night. Junior sat at the table, fork in one hand, his head held up by the other, falling asleep into his bacon and eggs. The father couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight. A thin line of drool was escaping his boy’s mouth. His hair was starting to get on the long side again, wildly sticking out around his head like the soft hide of a lamb. His boy would have cringed to know how cute he looked in that moment, but Miles Sr couldn’t help but appreciate his own work.

He reached out his hand and began to pet Junior’s hair, feeling his curls slip and twist around his fingers. The sleepy boy leaned into the touch, getting comforting scratches behind the ear in response. Junior deeply sighed out his nose, seemingly content. “You haven’t been sleeping well lately have you?” Miles Sr asked. Junior simply nodded. “Something on your mind?” He knew the answer was yes and hoped his boy would just admit it. Instead Junior slightly hesitated before shaking his head no. So disappointing. “Is your room too stuffy then? We can sleep outside tonight if you want. You always like that.”

“I’m fine Pa.” Liar.

Junior looked so incredibly tired that if he didn’t get some sleep soon he might just collapse from exhaustion. Hopefully with some rest, his son would start thinking clearly and just admit he had a problem. “Take a nap after you eat. Your school work and chores aren’t goin’ anywhere.” His son sighed again, seeming so defeated.“Thanks Pa. I’ll do that.”
