【語彙】フリマアプリ等
In the past year or so, I've sunk quite a lot of money in Japanese second hand goods. It's been quite a pleasant experience to browse through many well described offers where most of the time you get exactly what you want, in great condition and for cheap price.
Without further ado, I've compiled a list of useful vocabulary that one may encounter while shopping on Japanese online marketplaces or フリマアプリ.
General condition:
新品 - new item
中古品 - used item
未使用 - unused
未開封 - unopened, sealed
未視聴 - not played (CD, DVD)
開封済 - opened, unsealed
美品 - in mint condition
使用感 - visible signs of use
人の手に渡った - bought from someone else (ie. the person selling is not the first owner of the item)
帯付き - includes obi
特典付き - includes bonuses
Damages:
傷 or 痛み - general imperfections
汚れ - dirt, stains
染み or シミ - stain
皺 or シワ - wrinkle
擦れ or スレ - scratch
日焼け - sun discolouring
書き込み - writing, notes (in a book etc.)
Seller terms:
プロフィール必読 - please read my profile before purchase
即購入 or 即買い - immediate purchase (ie. without contacting the seller first)
値下げ交渉 - price negotiation
バラ売り - selling separately
まとめ売り - selling together
自宅保存 - stored at home
素人保存 - stored by an inexperienced person
確認済み - checked (f.ex. if the CD is playing well)
Phrases you may see in listings:
神経質な方はご遠慮ください。Please refrain from buying if you are sensitive to the item's condition.
読めればいいという方向け。Oriented at people who only care about reading the item (and don't mind the condition).
PCに取り込んで自宅保管しておりました。After ripping (the CD) it was stored at home.
暗所に保存しておりました。It was stored in a dark place.
再生に問題はありません。No problems with playing (CD, DVD).
ペット、喫煙者ございません。No pets or smokers in the household.
ご了承ください。Please accept it (the item, seller's terms etc.) as it is.

does anyone have some german music recommendations? for the songs i listen to in english, i mainly listen to 2000s emo, 70s/80s music (pull up a popular “throwback” playlist and im there), indie, and some pop music if it’s catchy. i especially love hozier, fall out boy, mitski, orville peck, and my chemical romance. i want to practice listening to german outside of my family talking over zoom because i can barely understand zoom and phone calls in english, let alone in german, because of my slight auditory processing disorder.
any recommendations would be great and ESPECIALLY if they’re queer artists!

How i’m learning Finnish
Getting started on a new language can be tough, so here’s how i approach it :)
•Apps
While Duolingo is not going to make you fluent, I think it’s an amazing way to get an idea of the language’s structure, pronounciation etc. I also love Drops for studying basic vocabulary.
•Immersion
How do children learn their native language? Definitely not through grammar books but through immersion. Now, you probably don’t have a parent who is going to point at a dog when you’re outside and tell you “Tämä on koira”, so you have to do that work yourself. Put sticky notes with vocabulary on things you use everyday (the word for shoes right where you put your shoes, the word for mirror on your mirror etc.). Everytime you walk past a sticky note, take a second to repeat the word (preferably out loud to practice pronounciation).
•Your everyday vocabulary
The words you use everyday might be wildly different from other people’s everyday vocabulary. I work in a library, so inevitably I use the word library way more often than most people would. Make a list of words that are important for your life and study those!
•The little words
We all use words like and, that, maybe, not, but, with etc. a lot. Make a list of all the little everyday words you can think of and study that. Feel free to add to the list on your path of learning.
•Look up the cultural context of EVERYTHING
Let’s say, you learn the sentence “I love you” in your target language.
Different cultures have very different ways of who they use the direct translation for. In english “I love you” can be used for friends, if you used “Minä rakastan sinua” for a friend though, people would be…a little confused to say the least. For many languages, there are blogs out there that explain the cultural context of phrases in depth. Find those for your target language and look through the posts.
•More immersion
I’m talking books, articles, tv shows, films, interviews, music, whatever sparks your interest. With books, shows and films I recommend looking at media that is designed for children. The language will be easier and often they also speak a lot clearer. Also songs designed for kids can be amazing for remembering vocabulary on a certain topics (don’t blame me if you have children’s songs stuck in your head though). If you look at more advanced media, feel free to use english subtitles. When watching the same clip over and over again with subtitles, you will most likely be able to make out which word is which after some time.
•Put your phone in your target language
Believe it or not, setting your phone to your target language can help. After all, how can you find an appointment in your calendar in august, if you don’t know which of the words means august. Doing stuff on your phone might take some more time but it can be an assistance for vocabulary.
•Talk to yourself
The best thing is always to speak/write to and with native speakers. Realistically though that is scary af, personally I love building confidence before I actually talk to natives. Write a diary, talk to yourself in the shower, just keep using the language.
•Nobody’s perfect, just keep going
Remember that we all make mistakes and that’s okay. Also, this is a marathon, not a sprint. You most likely won’t be fluent in 6 months and that is okay. Even if you’re a slow learner, that is fine. Keep it up, you are doing amazing! <3

Day 2 - 4/100 hours | 01/08/23
⭐️ Kapitel 1.3-2.1 Goethe Institut A1 online content -> grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and writing exercises.
⭐️ 50 Goethe Institut A1 flashcards
⭐️ Small conversation with a native speaker through Hellotalk
So, turns out that the Goethe Institut course includes predetermined flashcards. It was very useful and it saved me a lot of time. However I think I need to have an Anki deck eventually cause I need to get reminders for spaced repetition. Everything is going well so far, I’m in the first couple of lessons but I haven’t found it to be that difficult yet. But I’m aware that eventually more challenges are yet to come. Bis Morgen!

i know it's been said many times before but i will never get over how jacob anderson, a british man with a british accent, not only nailed a louisiana creole accent but also developed a studiously (almost eerily) generic accent that louis uses in the present AND showed the first accent bleeding into the second accent at key moments as a way of aurally externalizing his character's inner journey. what did god put in this man when she created him.

The word "reagoi" is a perfectly valid word regarding vowel harmony. You can use all these vowels in the same word without finnish language police hunting you down. However, and I physically cannot explain why, IT FEELS WRONG. TOO MANY DIFFERENT VOWELS, SOMETHING IS OFF.
