An extremely sweet and cute little story. It's nothing complex but the soft emotions within are really nice, even if it gets a little silly at times. I wish the main couple got a little more developed by the end, but every relationship gets at least some, so it's at least satisfactory.

So, back on my cute romcom BS

So the premise. Dani, as Danny's speed grown clone, wasn't the most physically stable. Turns out, it's really hard to speed grow a clone, and even harder when ectoplasm is involved. There's not enough time for the structures to properly stabilize and that leaves the cellular structure pretty weak and prone to breaking down into goo. The ecto dejecto was just a temporary solution and other measures were needed

aka Dani had to essentially grow a body from scratch the old fashion way, so she's now physically her actual age minus a couple months

So Danny, at the age of 20, is the father of a 4 year old Dani and is trying to keep a low profile in Gotham. His and his daughter's existence is still illegal, and being the single father of a 4 year old ghost girl isn't exactly easy. Now Danny has to deal with the very real threat of CPS being called on him by a neighbor, and trying to get Dani into school without either of them having papers for their assumed identity of Danny and Dani Nightingale and money to by fake documents. He'd ask Tucker, but that requires braking radio silence and potentially putting a target on all three of their backs.

Danny, desperate, asks his neighbor Jason to pose as his significant other for a meeting. Jason agrees, but things escalated and frankly he's now emotionally invested and committing to the bit

So now he and Danny have legally been married for about 4 months according to the papers Babs made them. The fake ID, birth certificates, SSNs, and high school diploma for the Nightingales were simple enough for her to do, but man Jason is going to owe her a BIG favor for this.

They move in together, Dani goes to a good private school, Jason is effectively Danny's sugar daddy paying for a sizable chunk of all this, and they are committing to the loving married couple bit, which is hard to do when the new in-laws are detectives

The best part?

Danny has not figured out Jason is the Red Hood, and Jason doesn't know about the ghost stuff. The only one that does? Dani, and she is physically and mentally 4 and watching Jason and Danny fall in love

I've been watching SPY x FAMILY and just need the fake relationship/family turns into a real relationship/found family dynamic. Jason is basically Loid, Danny is pretty much Yor, Dani fills the role of Anya, and uncle Dick is Yuri, except he's doting on Dani.

Dick is a smart man, but I love the headcanon that Jason is his emotional blindspot. Jason? MY Littlewing? He couldn't possibly.

While I'm on a roll, I'm going to go off on a little bit of a personal rant (continuing something I mentioned earlier), that's been on my mind due to some comments I've seen made about G-Witch and Sulemio in recent days. I normally try to avoid writing rants like this but this one has been grinding my gears a bit.

Yes, in the grand scheme of queer media, Sulemio's relationship can definitely come across as underwhelming. No one would deny that you can get more explicitly and textually queer stories out there, especially by queer creators. But that absolutely ignores some of the circumstances surrounding the show.

First, it's been made pretty obvious by now that the staff wasn't allowed to be very explicit in their depiction of Suletta & Miorine's relationship. The company that censored an interview and released a tone-deaf statement that their relationship should be "up to interpretation" because a VA said they were married obviously wasn't going to be cool with Suletta and Miorine kissing, saying I love you and getting married on screen. They would've put their foot down well before we got to the ending. And even then the staff did enough to make Suletta & Miorine explicitly married by the end of the show. They found ways around whatever limitations Bandai put into place to try and make Sulemio subtext, and made them a canon couple within the show itself. I get tired of people saying the show didn't explicitly and textually confirm their relationship and marriage because it does, just in a roundabout way via the "sister-in-law" line because they couldn't do it in a straightforward manner.

Seriously, by all accounts, it's not like the people making this show wanted to end Sulemio with "just handholding" and half-assed the relationship, they wanted to do more but couldn't. Just look at how some of the staff members depicted them in the artbook once they were off Bandai's leash: with multiple wedding pictures.

Second, it's actually a big deal that they ended the show married, even if they had to do it in a roundabout way. Yes, the yuri genre is generally going to have more explicit lesbian relationships than what we got with Sulemio, but the yuri genre isn't exactly mainstream. Dedicated yuri anime isn't airing in primetime and ending with the main couple married, it's usually late-night, niche and usually only gets one season that introduces the couple, maybe gives you a kiss, but forces you to finish the story through the LN/Manga. Mobile Suit Gundam is a popular, mainstream multi-media franchise that has been running for 44 years, and G-Witch was airing on prime time. The fact that a mainstream franchise like Gundam aired an anime series that was centered around a queer woman and a sapphic relationship that ended with the couple married is huge, especially considering the legal status of same-sex marriage in Japan. Niche yuri anime airing in the middle of the night can probably get away with a lot more gay content than a mainstream franchise airing in primetime can, especially when the franchise is owned by a bunch of old, conservative dudes.

As an anime fan, it's amazing to see a mainstream animated series like The Witch From Mercury focused around a queer woman and a sapphic relationship (and make it TEXTUAL, not relying on subtext to carry it), especially a series not specifically adapted from a yuri LN/Manga. And as a lesbian and a long time Gundam fan, seeing a major franchise I love like Gundam, that has always been dominated by male characters, air a series focused around a queer female MC and her relationship with another woman is a much bigger deal to me than a lot of random yuri series would ever be.

Reducing Sulemio to comparisons between other queer media or yuri series and how it's "inferior" to those because it lacked certain elements ignores and disregards the unique challenges and situation of The Witch From Mercury, and the way the staff fought to overcome those issues to deliver an explicit sapphic story ending in a married couple.

Favorite manga bls/gls that you’d recommend?

i read a lot of manga when i was bored (rip tachiyomi....). idk what kinda reader u are or ur preferences but i honestly focus more on the artstyle than anything so don't expect much on the storylines here. i read more yaoi bc i feel like we're pretty much in a yaoi golden age while yuri is still stuck on the same shit we'd read in 2009, i'm accepting yuri recs!!!

BL: monotone blue (it's a beautiful story even if it's set in school), pink heart jam (the author has other good stories too, but i liked this one the most), bidou wakadanna koishitau wa koushoku otoko (i know. long name. beautiful beautiful art, has a lot of sex though. it's set in edo period!), junai dropout (pretty much just sex. yayyy salaryman is actually a whore. author has other great +18 work), gesshoku kitan ("taboo" but so interesting. author has other dark work. funnily enough it's the same author from the cute ganbare nakamura kun manga), doukyuusei (set in school. the author has one of the most unique artstyles and i've read pretty much all their works bc of it lol. their writing is not as good as their art.), himemuko (BEAUTIFUL ART), umibe no étranger (pretty famous, cute art), tasogare out focus (great art, silly charas. set in school.), mitsuya sensei no keikakuteki na ezuke (it's about eating!!!! great art and the charas are super cute. there's age difference.), usagi no mori (it's bad but it's also really good lol. set in school), MADK (insane art. insane story too), EAT (furry yaoi), one room angel (pretty interesting story), sign (manhwa. very cute. lots of sex though) and cupid ni rakurai (set in school but suuuuper cute!!! i looove this author's art).

GL: tamen de gushi (it's a manhua and it's set in school but i just love how silly it is), octave (i really liked this story. the art isnt that good but the protag felt so real), kininatteru hito ga otoko ja nakatta (suuuuper cute artstyle. still ongoing!!), ikemen girl to hakoiri musume (also very cute), tsukuritai onna to tabetai onna (there's a live action but the manga is also very good), her tale of shim chong (manhwa, pretty good but i haven't finished it yet), kakeochi girl (oh love.....), legally married yuri couple (not that good but it's cute), mai no mushigurashi (BEAUTIFUL story. lots of bugs!), sabishisugite lesbian fuuzoku ni ikimashita report (not actually gl, it's a autobio but it's a must-read in my opinion. the author has other manga about her life), tsukiatte agetemo ii kana (interesting story!), nikurashi hodo aishiteru (pretty good. 18+), still sick (pretty wholesome) and hana monogatari (OLD WOMEN YURI!!).

hope you enjoy! i read most of them on tachiyomi but since the app and most manga repost sites went down, i think you'd find these in scanlation groups.

Hello hello, sorry if its a dumb question but, is Solphisto canon to JTTA in the same way that Belpheroth is/will be?

(Also anon who dubbed them yuri is so right, I can't see them differently now)

don't worry, it's not a dumb question at all!! the lines can be kind of blurred between what happens in the actual fic and all the stuff we talk about here...

so, statuses of all our significant couples:

wizlecto: together and married in all ways except legally in every universe forever. i WILL one day write something that gives you more details on their story (probably in the newspaper club chapter of that jtta after-story minific)

belpheroth: canon to jtta in that i do have concrete plans to develop their relationship in that direction; also do end up courting each other in the aus where they're acquainted (established relationship in the infernal friends au)

zhaolu: canon to ddvd, also canon to aus where zhao has a significant presence (e.g. infernal friends, rpg). probably WILL end up happening in the classic jtta at this point - tentative plans to start off their development in the mini-fic, might end up doing something extended later

solphisto: established in that i sort of operate on them being a thing when it comes to asks, canon to aus where both characters are involved (mostly just rpg au rn) - in terms of within jtta itself, still debating whether or not to get the ball rolling in-fic (like with belpheroth) or to wait til the post-story (as with zhaolu)

aunt lisa and thirteen: still just a concept at this point but i do want to think more about them

For 800 years, he did nothing but try to find Xie and worship him. And when he meets him *kyaa* he’s so shy, but they work so well together and they’re really domestic XD

Feng Xin x Mu Qing. Cat and dog, always fighting each other, but can surprisingly work well together, they’re in sync for people that declare they hate each other. They really care for each other deep down, but 800 years of misunderstandings and unsaid things stand in their way.

He Xuan x Shi Qingxuan. Kinda unhealthy, starts as the hottest yuri couple, but then we find out Xuan was hiding his identity from Shi and got close to him because he wanted to take revenge on his brother he having switched their destinies. Then proceeds to test and hurt and mentally torture him because they would still want to save his brother after knowing everything (Tian Guan Ci Fu)

Lan Wangji x Wei Wuxian. Steady devotion. Full of ups and downs, Started as frenemies with Wei teasing Lan and them not getting along, but still developing crushes on each other. Then demonic cultivation got in their way and ruined everything, but Lan was still devastated when Wei died and spent years atoning, punishing himself, taking care of their son and looking for Wei’s soul. And when he finally was reincarnated, he was always there, to defend him, fight with him and comfort him through everything.

Xue Yang x Xiao Xingchen. Really unhealthy relationship. Enemies to friends to almost lovers. Xiao was the one to arrest Xue, which led him to being hurt and developing an obsession with making Xiao suffer, so he went to his best friend and killed his family and blinded him. Xiao then went to a healer and gouged his eyes to give to him and when his friend in anger told him to go away, he exiled himself. Xiao later saved Xue not knowing who he was and nursed him back to health, and Xiao stayed with him for years. At first he wanted to hurt and humiliate him, he made him unknowingly kill people, but later he started caring about him, but everything was ruined when Xiao’s friend found him and Xue made him kill him. From then all the truths came out and Xiao couldn’t handle it so he killed himself. Xue was distraught, but he managed to seal his soul and kept obsessing over trying to save him in any way.

Jin Gyun x Lan Xichen. “The only one I never thought of hurting was you”. Wangxian, but gone wrong. Xichen kept on being loyal and believing his friend over anyone else, and in the end he was wrong and he was tricked into killing him (Mo Dao Zu Shi)

Qin Jiu x You Huo. My recent favourite <3 The world keeps interfering and keeping them apart, they can’t be open about their relationship, the system keeps erasing their memories. They met and fell in love from scratch 3 times and finally they can be together now. Their subtle devotion to each other, Yuo always wearing the earring Qin gave him. Qin always wearing a scarf because he used it to cover his bloody wound to not make Yuo worried at the end of their second time and even without his memories, he keeps wearing it because he knows he doesn’t want to worry someone. Yuo taking the punishment instead of Qin their first time, Qin waiting patiently for Yuo to wake up in the hospital at the end because he promised he would and together they would find a solution for Yuo eyes their first time. Qin always being a little shit and naturally teasing You, no matter if they’re enemies, him longing for Yuo and subconsciously knowing they want the same thing even if everyone keeps telling him they’re on opposite sides.

Diluc x Kaeya. sWoRn BrOtHeRs in a Chinese game… 👀. Inseparable in youth, always on the same train of thought, until the incident. They both broke that night, Diluc became the most brooding and self-destructive vigilante. Kaeya stopped telling the truth and became the flirtiest and shadiest knight. There is a distance between them, but they still love each other, no matter how Luc tried to kill him and scarred, or all the lies Kae told him and all the pain he gave him. Communicate through letters, big names in the underground information network, often team up together, always spending time with each other even if they tease and insult each other all the time.

Alhaitham x Kaveh. Their banter is always so amazing. Super serious, logical, basically a robot x super dramatic, passionate and sentimental. Both super smart, geniuses on their fields, friends since school, ROOMMATES, act like an old married couple or exes. Can wholly be themselves with each other. Al always teasing and showing emotions, Kav always pouting and nitpicking.

Ningguanng x Beidou. Rich mommy x Pirate mommy. Independent strong women who see each other once in a while, are always together then, play chess together, trust each other the most.

Lisa x Jean. Married. Shady librarian x Grandmaster of the Knights. Super flirty, frivolous and lazy x super serious, diligent and hard-working.

Ayato x Thoma. Thoma best waifu, perfect househusband material. Ayato always teasing him. They’re basically married.

Venti x Xiao. Immortal angsty short wind boys. Venti’s music is the only thing that can ease Xiao’s suffering.

My god, the remake, did you really need this much sexual tension, why do they stand so close together, why does Seph have to whisper everything in Cloud’s ear? “I will never be a memory, Cloud” kyaa! Really Seph?? As long as he remembers you, you’re going to stalk him throughout all the franchises? Man you kill your crazy superior once and he’s gonna come back even crazier and obsessed with you. For real though, this is a very toxic relationship, especially with Seph referring to Cloud as his puppet and taking away his free will, no matter how much can Cloud kick his ass, Seph is just so controlling and dominating (Final Fantasy 7)

Castiel x Dean. The deadliest hunter with several issues and his guardian Angel <3 I mean Cas literally saved him from Hell, Dean then showed him what it means to be human and caused his rebellion against Heaven, they keep saving and sacrificing for each other. Cas would always choose to save Dean among millions of others. Went through so much, ups and downs, always found their way to each other, no matter the mistakes they did , they could always rely on the other (Supernatural)

Derek x Stiles. Started as antagonistic, with Der threatening to bite Stil’s head off numerous times, but always coming to his rescue in the end. Stil always figuring everything and having a plan to save everyone every time and Der being there to support and defend him. “You two make a good couple.” Literally everyone could see it, too bad it didn’t happen in the end, we were so close :( Stil held his paralysed body in a pool for 2 hours, he made him the king in his chess board, he’s really really sad when Der is leaving. Der literally subconscious is Stiles calming him down and trying to break the situation logically, he trusts him the most out of anyone (Teen Wolf)

Klaus x Hayley. Best divorced even if they were never married type of parents. They change and learn for and from each other. Very protective, you better never touch their family.

Elijah x Hayley. Loved them, Elijah protecting her from the start, their intensity, the sexual tension. Elijah despair and devastation after he learns that his actions killed the person he loves *sob sob* (The Originals)

Rakan x Xayah. Best couple!! Rakan is always there to protect her and she’s such a badass and they love each other so much!!

Sett x Aphelios. Badass couple, opposite attract. Brutal crime boss and pit fighter hiding a heart of gold and silent and stoic warrior Lunari!

Yasuo x Riven. Two people in search of redemption, answers and a purpose, finding it in each other <3 (League of Legends)

Percy x Annabeth. I love them! Their relationship is amazing, the slowest burn, they keep overcoming adversities together, getting past their hung ups. Their devotion and synergy, they’re the perfect team together, Annabeth wisdom and strategy, Percy improvisation and raw power. Tartarus <3

Will x Nico. Darkness and the Sun, opposite attracts <3 (Percy Jackson / Heroes of Olympus)

Wade x Peter. Spideypool is so much fun! Two very different people, with different values and methods that still work magnificently together and are always hilarious when they hang out. Also them trying to understand the other and learn from them <3 (Marvel)

Dick x Jason. Love their dynamic, from former Robins to becoming vigilantes with their own sense of justice. Starting on a bad foot, with jealousy and resentment, but still getting closer and depending on the other, Dick call I’m him ‘little wing’ <3 Then Jason’s death *sob sob*, his antagonistic return and still later coming to help defend Gotham and patch things up with the Bats. They both got into fights with Bruce, be it verbally or physically (Batman)

Lincoln x Octavia. Very intriguing and beautiful, from the start he saved her, and kept on protecting her, she was finally free with him. But then his death *sob sob*, his last words “I love you”. And from then everything was never the same (The 100)

Hak x Yona. So wonderful, really slow burn. Yona character growth, from spoiled little princess to badass warrior queen. Hak constant devotion to her, always protecting her and caring for her (Akatsuki no Yona)

Hatsuharu x Isuzu. Angsty yet wonderful. Rin is distant and behaves coldly but she’s so selfless and self-sacrificing, always trying to keep Haru’s best interests in mind and to protect him. He only cares about her wellbeing and happiness, he’s ready to defend her from everything and always support her.

Kyo x Tohru. Perfect romance, kinda slow but steady. Always there for each other, ready to anything to make the other happy, able to accept every part of them.

Yuki x Machi. Hatori x Mayuko. Kureno x Arisa. All amazing and cute, didn’t expect them to work out this well.

Shigure x Akito. Weird, but it surprisingly works, similar kinds of people, manipulative assholes (Fruits Basket)

Usui x Misaki. One of my favourite couples ever! They’re so cool and sweet together, nothing beats two super competent people trying to navigate feelings. Usui finds out Misa, the student council president at his school, secretly works as in a maid cafe. So he keeps going there to tease her and discover this new side of her. Usui is naturally smart and rich, but lonely and Misa is very hard-working, trying to help her mother and sister and really busy, she doesn’t have time for simple things. Their relationship is simply beautiful, they unknowingly help each other fill the void in their lives, but without being codependent, their existence is just richer because the other is in it now (Maid Sama)

Vaninoe are so funny, their dynamic is hilarious and they’re always bickering but also saving each other. Jeanne and Vani are so hot and so cute together. And Vani actually feeling real emotions for her and being surprised that someone could love someone like him *kyya sob*. Domi and Noe are also incredible together, the trust they have in each other, always being ready to do everything for the other. And Jeanne ad Domi are adorable together, two sweet and cute badass women vampire, who are surprisingly compfortable around each other.

Jean x Chloe. Cute domestic couple. Jean is Chloe’s protector and companion, he’s very devoted and caring towards her (Vanitas no Carte)

Sukuna x Fushiguro. Sukuna is the n°1 simp and no one can convince me otherwise. From their first fight, Sukuna has only been interested in one human, everyone else is nothing. To Noba being the most aggressive lesbian ever, from Fumi to Saori, even with Mai. Start Shibuya together, separated, end up disfigured on the verge of death. Just waiting for them to appear on a panel together, from the new scarred Maki with short hair to seeing Noba in an eyepatch (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Gintoki x Hijikata. Very similar but still really different, like two faces of the same coin, the snape is the same, the details are different. Two thorny kids, difficult past, tragic backstory, raw strength and agility, similar ideals. Always hilarious together, but also work splendidly well together and in their darker moments are ready to save, motivate and encourage the other.

Gintoki x Tsukuyo. Soo cute yet cool. He saved her world, then she helped him keep fighting, then he saved her from her past and she kept on helping him overcome every obstacle in his way. She has a super cute crush on him and an get pretty nervous and clumsy around him, when drunk she’s just aggressively flirting and ordering him around.

Kyubei x Tae. Was actually really good, since the Yagyuu arc I shipped them, once Kyu stopped being an asshole and we discovered their backstory, I started rooting for her. She’s very protective and always trying to spend time and hang out with her (Gintama)

Zoro x Sanji. Always fighting and bickering. Loyal to the crew and to each other, surprisingly comfortable together, on the same wavelength, would die for each other.

Marco x Ace. Fire x fire. Love it, mostly based on headcanons. Blue phoenix who can heal and hot-headed fire logia. Marco was the one to convince him to join the crew. Poor Marco he lost everyone *sob sob*

Nami x Vivi. They got along so well during Alabasta, Nami made some huge sacrifices to help Vivi and get there as soon as possible, she really cared about her and gave it her all to free her country without expecting a reward in return (One Piece)

Grimmjow x Ichigo. Very hot, blue and orange. Savage hollow, thinks himself king, always wanting to get stronger and win against other people. Not so normal hybrid teenager, find himself in the middle of all the chaos, only wants to protect his friends, if only they didn’t get kidnapped at every turn. Doesn’t really want to fight, but deep down he instinctively chooses to. Their fight made Ichi stronger and brought out all his instincts and he saves Grimm, teaching him mercy and how to be more human.

Renji x Rukia. From childhood friend, to schoolmates to estranged to lovers. Renji totally had a crush on her when they were little, she felt left behind in school and what’s more they got separated when she was adopted by the Kuchiki and him being happy for her did more bad than good. When he was sent to capture her, he didn’t want to seriously hurt her and when she was imprisoned, she wasn’t scared of him still kept teasing him. He then gave his all and sacrificed everything in order to save her and they lived together ever happily being dumbasses and helping Ichigo.

Ikkaku x Yumichika. I want to know more about their past!! Couples who fight and keep secrets together, stay together. For real though, Ikka hides that he has a Bankai from everyone except Yumi and he hides the true form of his Zanpakuto. They seem polar opposite, Ikka is a meat-head muscular bald brute and Yumi is an elegant delicate beautiful guy. But in reality they’re both bloodthirsty and savage fighters.

Kyoraku x Ukitake. Also want to know more about their past! Best friends since the academy, they’ve known and been partners for a thousand years, always fighting together and protecting each other, always enjoying their time together.

Ulquiorra x Orihime. A monster and the woman who didn’t ever fear him and taught him what a heart was.

Isshin x Masaki. Forbidden romance, a Shinigami and a Quincy, they saved each other against White, and he gave all his powers for her and they lived a joyous normal life as humans and became parents.

Yoruichi x Soi Fon. Master x servant, but without too much power imbalance. Fon idolises Yoru and is a sticker for the rules, but Yoru is very chill. The only thing she wanted was to not get left behind, why couldn’t she bring her along when she escaped Soul Society? This caused Fon to be hell bent on surpassing her and even more rigid in her rule abiding. But after getting her ass kicker, she resume worshipping the ground Yoru walk on, this time as her equal (Bleach)

Shikamaru x Temari. Best pairing, from the chunin exam, they had chemistry and an interesting dynamic. Shika needs someone to kick his ass into gear.

Asuma x Kurenai. Tragic perfect couple. Really sad *sob*, poor Kure, Mira and team 10.

Naruto x Sasuke. Should’ve ended up together. There’s no way someone is so obsessed with another guy unless they’re in love. “Because you’re my friend” my ass. Naru had a panic attack when he thought someone killed Sasu. Got stronger for him. Forgave him after everything he had done, after he killed so many people.

Sakura x Ino. Should’ve been together, ex-best friends, both obsessed with Sasu. Should’ve have overcome and made up in the chunin exams, after their fight (Naruto)

Hizashi x Aizawa. From classmates to teachers! Hizashi cares so much and he’s the only one who calls him by his first names, always bothering him, but also letting him sleep. They’re basically a married couple.

Mirio x Tamaki. Cuute, super friendly and very shy couple. Both had difficulty with their quirks, but learned and motivated each other, now two of the strongest in the entire school. Mirio is Tamaki’s light, always believing in him and saying that one day he’ll manage to eat even the Sun and surpass him, he just needs to have confidence in himself.

Kirishima x Bakugo. The only one Baku trusts, and can be completely comfortable and himself with. Treating him as his sidekick, but also believing in his abilities more than anyone. Always patient and accepting with him.

Hawks x Dabi. Could’ve been great. Hawks going undercover in the League of Villains, getting closer to him, learning about him, and maybe finding out the thrush about Endeavour and defecting for real. Mostly headcanon, but even in the series they have this weirdly intense moments, the sexual tension! Also I think there’s more to be revealed (My Hero Academia)

Hisoka x Illumi. ‘All the best people are crazy’ personified. Probably really toxic and deranged, two crazy good fighters, always teaming up and conspiring together. From the Hunter exam, to Yorknew, to the election arc, to the boat en route to the Dark Continent. Hisoka paid Illumi to kill him, that’s basically a marriage proposal in Hisoka weird fighting language. They’re insane and probably actually working together even now. Also very weird, Hisoka gets hard in good fights, even agains 10 years old and Illumi has the worst brother complex (Hunter x Hunter)

Hiei x Kurama. Should’ve been canon :( A fire demon and his fox, Hiei is such a fanboy, like he’s always complimenting and hyping him up and is always ready to defend him. And Kurama is the only one who can get away with teasing him. Immortal super strong demon couple.

Kuwabara x Yukina. Soo cute, I shipped it from the start. Kuwa is so protective, a real knight in shining armor, and Yukina is always there to welcome him back and heal him

Yusuke x Keiko. Such loyalty and steadfast support. Always there and ready to help each other, they’ll always come home to each other, no matter the obstacles (Yu Yu Hakusho)

Yami x Charlotte. Asta x Noelle. Gaja x Lolochepka. All very cute and adorable, I’mrooting for all of them. Finral x Vanessa. Best BROTP, I would’ve loved if they actually had romantic feelings for each other. Definitely better for Fin than some random noblewoman (Black Clover)

Gajeel x Levy. The best!! From enemy to friend to lover! He basically tortured her, then when he joined Fairy Tail, he looked out for her and tried to protect her. He became intrigued and they got closer and closer, during the time skip they were together. Same job, same house. Lily, Gaj’s partner knows that Levy always comes first, she’s the one he cares about the most, so his duty is to protect her.

Sting x Rogue. Yin and Yang, Light and Darkness dragon slayer. Always together, the strongest combo, Rogue always believes and relies on Sting to keep his darkness away.

Gray x Juvia. From enemy to one-sided attraction, to love. Juvia start as kinda of a crazy stalker obsessed with the person who defeated her and saved her, making her rain disappear. But she’s really devoted and caring towards Gray. And he starts to treasure her as a comrade and friend, but also wants to make her happy and feel loved.

Natsu x Lucy. Stranger to best friend to I love them together. They’re so comfortable with each other, they would and have gone incredibly far for each other.

Jellal x Erza. Friend to enemy to lover. Childhood friends turned enemy because of brainwashing. Later he tries to atone by distancing himself from her, but whenever they meet he’s always ready to protect her, and their attraction is undoubtable.

Zeref x Mavis. Very tragic and angsty cursed couple. They meet, spend time together, fall in love, he unintentionally kills her, becomes crazy, wants to destroy the world, she tries to stop him, he hurts and tortures her, he is defeated, they are reincarnated and can finally be peacefully together.

Elfman x Evergreen. Surprisingly cute ship, had no idea these two would work so good together, but they really really do (Fairy Tail)

Erwin x Levi. From enemy, I was contracted to kill you, to partners, tell me what to do and I’ll do everything for you. Erwin is the smartest and Levi is the strongest, together they’re invincible. Levi made a promise before Erwin died and he’ll keep it no matter what.

Ymir x Historia. Surprising and actually good, Ymir seemed cold but was actually trying to protect her, she reveals her secret to protect her once again, Historia is obsessed with getting her back. Too bad it didn’t work out (Attack on Titan)

Kanda x Allen. Always clashing and bickering, but fight together well. Kanda accidentally screws Al over because of denial and trying to forget about his ex-lover’s reincarnation Karma, but manages to have a nice final moment with them. He then swears to follow and defend Allen throughout his journey.

Lavi x Lenalee. Lavi cares a lot for a Bookman, who is supposed to be neutral and observe history without interfering. Always trying to protect her and lift her spirits (D.Gray Man)

Takemitchy x Hina. Mitchy determination and devotion to Hina and saving her is incredible. And she can motivate him with just a word and she’s always there to care for him when he most needs it.

Kokonoi x Inui. Kinda canon, kinda not, slightly unhealthy relationship. Childhood best friends, Koko had a crush on Inu’s sister and when their house burnt down tried to save her but mistakenly took him. Obsessed with money because he wanted to pay for her treatment, but didn’t make it in time. Now they live unsatisfied and with a bunch of unsaid things between them.

Baji x Chifuyu x Kazutora. Such complicated dynamic. Fuyu loves and idolises Baji. Baji is really close friends with Kazu. And Kazu killed Baji, but Fuyu still cares about him.

Kakucho x Izana. A king and his knight. Really codependent on each other. Tragic ending.

Hakkai x Mitsuya. Hakkai is such a fanboy and only has praises for Mitsuya. Living and working together in the present timeline.

Draken x Emma. Sweet and tragic *sob sob*. Emma had the hugest crush in Draken and is always trying to get his attention and take care of him. Draken may seem cold, but he loved her deep down and was ready to do everything necessary for her to be happy (Tokyo Revengers)

Yamamoto x Gokudera. Interesting dynamic, always at each other’s throats, and can’t actually work well together, but when things get serious they’ll fight for each other. Yama can be silly and joking, always thinking everything is a game and doing things instinctively, but if someone hurts anyone he cares about he becomes a deadly badass. Dera is instead very rational and methodical, but still very protective of his friends.

Mukuro x Hibari. Muku was the first one to ever defeat Hiba, he swore vengeance, and Muku takes every opportunity to rub it in his face. They don’t actually meet that often, but they know each other’s strength better than almost anyone and believe that in their strive for victory, the will not be defeated by anyone other than them.

Xanxus x Squalo. Loyalty, Squalo vowed to serve him as his right-hand man and to never cut his hair until he loses. Xan can be a dick and seem to not care, but if he’s hurt right in front of him, he’s ready for retribution.

Colonnello x Lal. Cute, she was his trainer, he had a crush on her, he followed her to the Fated Day and sacrificed himself for her, even if it didn’t work out. Even now they’re so adorable every time they meet. When the opportunity to lift the Arcobaleno curse presents itself, he wants to do it for her.

Ryohei x Hana. Very surprising, can works really well. Ryohei is a meath-head, only thinking of boxing and training and she thinks all men are monkey and she’s best friend with his little sister (Reborn)

Nagisa x Kayano. That kiss, Kayano totally has a crush on Nagi.

Karasuma x Irina. They’re so cute for such badass people. Irina having a crush on Kara is adorable and trying to woo him, but it not working because he’s oblivious. Them resolving their issues and Kara saving Irina in the Shinigami incident. For a government agent and an assassin they manage to settle down very comfortably (Assassination Classroom)

Alibaba x Morgana. To strangers to best friends to lovers, Morg really cares about her saviours and always tries to protect him and Aladdin. Ali finds her attractive, but he doesn’t do anything other than worry for her and be by her side, until the end of the world is imminent, then he proposes.

Judal x Hakuryuu. Juda always wanted to be Hakus’s magi, but Haku always refused. It’s not until he traveled the world and Sindrian and gained powers on his own and was defeated by Orga that he asked Juda for help. They work very well together and they’re very dedicated to each other, Juda was prepared to learn more grand scale magic that would exhausts him just to help him reach his goal and Haku is also very worried about his wellbeing and he’s better with him around. Haku is also the only one who knows Haku’s real name and visited his hometown (Magi)

Soul x Maka. Best meister and weapon pair. They manage to be able to work well together, they cover each other’s weakness. Soul is very protective and Maka is ready to accept every part of him.

Death the Kid x Black Star. God of Death junior obsesses with symmetry and loud assassin who swore to surpass even the gods. From rivals to friends to believing in each other more than anyone else and saving the other when they need it (Soul Eater)

Kamina x Yoko. I loved them *sob*. They had some real chemistry. Kamina is a chad and Yoko is the coolest (Gurren Lagan)

Kageyama x Hinata. Perfect combo, they’ve taught each other so much, how to play together, how to be a real team, how to be rivals and best friend and how to become even stronger. Going through very high ups and some downs, they manage to overcome everything, from studying to different opinions in how to play the game, to the most difficult opponents, to life.

Iwaizumi x Oikawa. Iwa was always there for Oi, to play with him, to support him, to help him through his insecurities, to help him win, to reach the same goal. From childhood friends to the future, they’ve always been together and even if they’ve chosen different paths, they’ll always have each other.

Aomine x Kise. It starts it’s Kise, player who can learn any moves by just seeing it being bored and wanting a challenge, and Ao, a prodigy who loves basketball more than anyone else. Ao inspires Ki to try basket and even having started late, he manages to catch up to the strongest players very soon. Ki is always challenging Ao to improve, but even if he wants to win and surpass him, deep down he doesn’t want him to lose. Ao also really cares about Ki, he punches a guy who wanted to hurt Ki, even risking being disqualified from the tournament and wants Kagami to be serious and at his best when facing Ki. When they double team an opponent together they are unstoppable.

Midorima x Takao. Hilarious, Mido is always ordering and being carted around by Taka. Taka is always teasing him, but on the court they are an amazing pair. Mido blindly trusts Taka with everything he has and Taka is ready to support him in anything he may need.

Kagami x Kuroko. Perfect pair on the court, strongest light and shadow pair, thanks to Kuro’s passes Kaga can play more freely. They learn a lot from each other and are always overcoming the next obstacle together.

Yuga x Riko. Super cute, he really cares about her, to the point of actually eating her cooking after he saw how determined she was. She promised him to not cut her hair until they won and she gets jealous when he looks at other girls (Kuroko no Basket)

Hiruma x Mamori. Started from distrust of the manipulative jerk who coerced Sena, her childhood friend/little brother figure into the rugby club. Also joins as a manager to keep an eye on him, good at organising, the only one smart enough to keep up with Hiru’s intellect, good at memorising strategies and signals, becomes invested in his wellbeing, start to care about him, always there to support him and take care of him. In the end goes to college with him instead of Sena (Eyeshield 21)

Kojiro x Kaeoru. Divorced but still fucking parents energy. There is no way they aren’t gay for each other… “We still have heat other, don’t we, Kaoru?” <3 Always bickering, know each other better than anyone else, always insulting and fighting the other. From classmates who loved skateboarding to adults with jobs, that participate in underground skateboard race with a secret identity.

Langa x Reki. Soo cute, Reki being the best friend and hype man, getting Langa into skateboarding, them having fun just hanging out together. But they still have realistic progression, to Langa wanting to do more and seek out the next thrill, no matter where from to Reki feeling left behind and inferior, but still trying to protect and encourage him (SK8)

Victor x Yuuri. Mentor and student, the one who inspired Yuuri to skate and the one who will spark new inspiration in Vic, to better himself next year. They learnt so much from each other and are always ready to support and motivate one another.

Otabek x Yuri. Super chill friends, inspire and motivate one another, really comfortable together, always trying to spend time together, saving and helping each other (Yuri on Ice)

Daewhi x Mira. Soo cute and beautiful and angsty. From enemies to best friends to lovers to being separated for years to married. He starts by beating her, to being her teammate, to fighting together and protecting each other. But then they are both on the brink of death but brought back by different people for different purposes and are separated. She doesn’t remember him, he looks for her for 17 years and doesn’t want to hurt her even when she’s on the opposite side. Are separated yet again, but thankfully reunited, but they still have a war to fight.

Mori x Ilpyo. “You have no idea how safe you make me feel” kyaa <3 From friendly teenage martial artists rivals to gods. Mori is very straightforward and obsessed with fighting, Pyo is very cunning and strategic, but also really cares and want him to be better because of a promise he made to his grandpa. Even after being beaten Mori cares and acts friendly with Pyo, even protecting him and granting his wish. When Mori is stuck in the Sage Realm, Pyo goes looking for him and they then keep protecting each other and fighting together to get back home. Even after 17 years, when Mori reappears he trust Pyo unconditionally, no matter what anyone says to him.

Baek x Uma. Very surprising, she falls in love with him almost immediately, he saves her because his father told him to always take care of someone who has given you their heart. She dies but her soul remains attached to him and so she’s always with him. They try every mean possible to get her body back, but are separated. Even 17 years later he’s still waiting for her and trying to find a solution (The God of High Scool)

Baam x Khun. “I wish I had met Bam first” “Ah, I see he was loved”. Very naive and innocent Bam, trying to follow his everything Rachel, and cunning and ruthless Khun, who completely believed in his sister, only to end up betrayed. Their character growth is astounding, they keep growing as individuals but also part of a group. Like Bam confronting Rachel and threatening to kill her after she pun Khun in a coma or Khun deciding that he would do everything in his power to help Bam and to keep his light from being snuffed out.

Urek x Garam. He met her when he was broken-hearted and it was love at first sight, he tried every which way to impress her without results. He’s always trying to get her attention and flirt with her without any success. Probably deeper, we’ve seen Garam advising Endorsi about deciding if she’s cursing on Baaam because he has the power to become a slayer or because of who he is. That’s similar to her situation, she’s a disgraced princess of Jahad and Urek is an Irregular with the potential and enough power to slay king Jahad, but he’s not interested, he cares about going outside the Tower and they probably had a disagreement about it, since their wants are different, the only things left for him was avoid the floor of death and anonymously help her (Tower of God)

Eames x Arthur. “You mustn’t be afraid of dreaming a little bigger, darling” kyaa <3 Always bickering and teasing each other but working together flawlessly, they have each other’s back. Mostlyheadcanon about their past and how they met (Inception)

Sherlock x Moriarty. Unconventional detective and crime lord love story, “Catch me if you can, Mr. Holmes.” Kyaa <3 Will has a plan to reform England class system by making him, a noble, the number one public enemy and being defeated by the hero, Sherlock. They unexpectedly become friends and even while Will is hiding things, with Sherly he can just me comfortable and let go of all his responsibilities and plans and just be a normal intelligent person enjoying time with his equal. In their final confrontation Sherly decides to save him and they both fall, they spen two years together in America, healing and just living together (Moriarty the Patriot)

Izumo x Seri. Such a cool couple, second in command from different groups, always flirting, going undercover at parties and kicking ass is so badass. He’s the owner of a bar and lost both his best friends, she comes to his bar every so often and requests the strangest drinks, also afraid of losing her boss. Comfort and understanding, always exchanging information and helping each other even if they’re on opposite sides.

Mikoto x Totsuka. Totsu became Izu and Miko’s friend after insistently trying. He was the weakest, and very careless with his safety, so Miko and the rest of Homra are very protective, he’s the mood-maker and the only one who could talk back to him and calm his anger and aggressiveness, silence the beast howling for destruction inside of Miko, an effect of his power. After his death Homra is on a path of vengeance and Miko is slowly losing it and in the end he joins him very soon after.

Mikoto x Munakata. The red and blue king, fire vs ice. Polar opposite, raw unbridled violence vs cold indifferent calculations, both stubborn. They are often on opposing sides, but are good friends and equals, trust each other to keep them in check and do what needs to be done if they go out of control.

Saruhiko x Misaki. Childhood friends, Misa is an idiot but quite emotionally smart and a good person, Saru is very intelligent and quite detached from the world around him, they become friends and do reckless things, until one day they catch Homra’s eye and are saved by them, so they join. Due to the new environment, Saru’s jealousy and him being uncomfortable with Miko as his king, they separate ways with Saru being an asshole before leaving. After joining the Blues, Misa considers him a traitor and is they always fight, but eventually they solve their differences when Muna sends Saru on an undercover mission where he could die and Misa ends up saving him (K)

Shizuo x Izaya. Really violent ship, always at each other’s throats. A human with monstrous strength and a manipulative arrogant asshole, who loves all humans and hates monsters, but is still fascinated by them and trying to use them to bring chaos and make him god. They try to kill each other multiple times, usually with Iza swiftly escaping and Shizu chasing after him, sometimes Iza tries to frame or put Shizu in dangerous situations, others they just fight until someone is seriously injured.

Kasuka x Ruri. Kasu, Shizu’s brother, isn’t able to feel basically any emotions, so he chose acting as a career to try and express himself to the fullest. Ruri was a make-up artist for Kasu and later became an idol, she was secretly used for occult rituals and experimented on because of her supernatural healing ability. When she finds out her father, whose life was being threatened by her captors, was killed years ago, she goes on a rampage and escapes, she then becomes the serial killer Hollywood, leaving her victim’s unrecognisable. In an encounter with Kasu, she is saved by his words, him feeling like a monster because of his apathy and her because of how she is, they come to an understanding and are able to accept even those part of themselves.

Shinra x Celty. Very weird but surprisingly romantic. Eccentric doctor obsessed with his father’s experimente, has the strangest friends and a dullhan without her head, can’t speak unless she has her phone. They actually really care for each other and even I’d Shinra cam be pretty Creepy and controlling and possessive, Celty is amazing and tolerates every side of him and when given the chance to reclaim her head and go black helm, she decides to step wurg him (Durarara)

Lelouch x CC. LL is always teasing him, their interactions are so fascinating and entertaining. But still they have the utmost trust in each other and keep on rescuing and saving the other, even if they don’t admit it out loud, it’s because they care and not just because they can’t have them die for their plan to succeed. “If I destroy the world and remake it, it’ll be because of my accomplice, CC”. Kinda happy with Lelouch of the resurrection (Code Geass)

L x Light. Kinda unhealthy normally, but Light without his memory handcuffed to L <3 Deadly game of car and mouse, trying to always be a step ahead the other, getting close to each other to win and find secrets about each other, but really starting to care and become friends. Even Kira was sad after he killed L, he knew nothing could cure his boredom now. Without anyone in his way he started becoming overconfident and deleting his work to others, making him sloppy and allowing N and M to defeat him (Death Note)

Guren x Shinya. Super devoted and loyal to each other. Guren loved him enough to cause an apocalypse to try to bring him back to life. Shin is always teasing him and bickering with him, but he really cares for him, he’s constantly covering for him and cleaning up his messes, assisting and support him in combat and out and there is no one he believes in more.

Yuuichiro x Mikaela. They’re obsessed with each other. Mika is so self-sacrificing and ends up dying and becoming a vampire, Yuu swear vengeance and to become stronger, when they meet again, nothing else matters but them and the other’s safety. Mika would do anything for Yuu, even taking care of the other humans in their group and Yuu is so happy to have Mika back, when he dies again, he’s obsessed with getting him back, not matter if he’s become a demon.

Crowley x Ferid. Vampire partners. From Ferid killing everyone Crowl ever cared for 700 years ago to now where whatever Ferid says, goes, no matter what. They’re so chill and strong together, Ferid is actually stronger but Crowl instinctively protects him, he always goes along with his plans, no matter how crazy and how much even his subordinates try to dissuade him (Owari no Seraph)

Lawless x Licht. Their names are Jekyll and Hyde. Lawless is a broken servamp, interested in theatre, always quoting Shakespeare, who’s lived too long and passes time by choosing rich eves and killing them when he gets bored of them. Licht is an internationally famous piano prodigy who can move people to tears with his music, he thinks he’s an angel and really cares about animals but not humans. They’re always bickering, but Hyde is also very protective of Licht, initially in a nobody can play with you but me kind of way, but then in a caring way. And Licht call Hyde a demon and is always kicking him, except when he’s in his hedgehog form, but he helps him overcome his past and he’s geniully distraught when he’s hurt.

Kuro x Mahiru. Really good! Mahiru helps Kuro through all his problems, motivates him to fight once again and helps him regain his true form and mend his relationship with his sibling (Servamp)

Yogi x Gareki. So cute!! From Yogi being super protective of Gareki to him actually caring, winning him a bracelet and wanting him to not worry. Them helping each other and constantly saving each other when they need it.

Hirato x Akari. From arrogant teacher and mischievous student, to SSS asset and researcher, always absorbed in his work and manipulative captain of squad 1 of Circus. Hira is so protective, he’s ready to body anyone who so much as puts an hand on him, at the same time, he’s always teasing him and wanting to spend time with him, trying to get him drunk or in the weirdest situation (Karneval)

Yuri x Wolfram. One of my earliest yaoi ships. The only couple where I’m happy when they slap each other XD Simply wonderful (Kyo Kara Maoh)

He Tian x Mo Guan. I had no idea I would get so attached to Redhead and here I am, I ship them so hard. Rich manipulative asshole x poor aggressive hard-working thug. After they’re all on the same side, you can really see Tian getting interested in Red and trying to get his attention by whatever mean, always teasing or play fighting him. Also he becomes super protective, every time White goes after Red, Tian is ready to throw hands and murder a bitch. Also throwing money at him just to spend time with him and do things for him, giving him an earring to replace the old one he was forced to have <3 Them just taking care of each other every time, both physically and mentally.

Zhan Zhen x Jain Yi. So cute and funny and wholesome <3 Childhood friends, Jain developing a crush, Zhan being protective and caring form him, not wanting him to disappear or get hurt, Jain making moves because he just loves him too much, Zhan accepting him and always making sure he’s safe and happy (19 Days)

Kirishima x Yokozawa. Really cute. Yoko is trying to get over his unrequited crush, and after he got drunk he finds himself in Kiri’s bed, he then tricks him into going out with him and sling the way they fall deeply in love! Very wholesome, especially Yoko trying to parent Kiri’s kid.

Takano x Onodera. Soo good! First love to estranged to lovers!! Where they end up working together and Taka is trying to rekindle their romance, this time better and more mature. And Ono is trying to resist but deep down he still loves him and is slowly wing won over.

Yukina x Kisa. Older baby-faced man has a crush on younger extremely popular man. Fascinating dynamic, trying to overcome insecurities, exes and various other difficulties (Sekaiichi Hatsukoi)

Uenoyama x Mafuyu. Super wholesome and emotional, getting past traumas and playing music together.

Akihiko x Haruki. Good chemistry, Haru has a crush with Aki, but doesn’t really act on it, Aki knows and when drunk tries to do it, after sobering up he realises that he doesn’t deserve Haru, but still wants him and wants to be a batter person worthy of him <3

Akihiko x Ugetsu. Yuki x Mafuyu. I loved these as well *sob sob*. Why can’t we have everything? Very slightly unhealthy relationships, but still very beautiful (Given)

Yuki x Momo. From fan to member of his group. He was always there to support him, first as an enthusiastic fan and then as a friend during his darkest moment. Became his equal but still kept trying to help him by trying to look for new opportunities by any means possible (Idolish 7)

Asami x Akihito. Very hot crime boss and hotly cute photographer trying to take pictures that show him guilty. Very kinky, from punishment to care to real love (Finder)

Charles x Rayflo. Vampire slayer vampire x the one who made him one. Seems like they don get along, Cherry’s always insulting Ray, fighting and aggressively feeding from him, but he deeply cares about him, he’s always so gentle and caring afterwards, also he’s super protective, whoever touches Ray better watch out, because he will find you and discover a way to kill you no matter what or how immortal you’re supposed to be. Would do anything to save him and spend more time together with him (Vassalord)

Shiki x Akira. Super hot. Shiki is super controlling and dominating and with him Akira is so submissive (Togainu no Chi)

Noiz x Aoba. My fave <3 Aoba has an ability which allows him to mix his consciousness with other people's through his voice and use it to control them, though he can also destroy them and leave the victims in a comatose-like state. He’s a caring, honest, and open-minded personality, but has a short temper. When he’s distressed, his other personality awakens that desires chaos and destruction, and can be very sadistic and masochistic. Noiz doesn’t feel anything, no touches, pain or temperature changes, causing him to sometimes hurt other, his wealthy parents thought him a disgrace and imprisoned him so he ran away from home. Now he lives indifferently to the world around him, often acting reckless due to his inability to feel pain and turning to a virtual game where he can feel and illusion of sensations. He’s an information broker and a skilled hacker.

Koujaku x Aoba. Childhood friend, compassionate and strong-willed, a bit of a womanizer. Illegitimate son of a yakuza leader, him and his mother to escaped. After getting a special tattoo, he mindlessly killed his family. Despite his dark past and impulses, he retains a positive and gentle personality.

Mink x Aoba. Mink is from a tribe that grew special herbs to give a person them a sense of peace. Because the plant's effect was mistaken as mind manipulation, his tribe was slaughtered and Mink was captured to be experimented on. After he Mink broke out, began plotting his revenge, as a result, Mink hardened and distanced himself from personal attachments. He has a stoic, ruthless, controlling personality, constantly using violence as a means to reach his goal. Despite his rough exterior, he does have integrity and a gentle side he rarely shows.

Clear x Aoba. Clear is an android who loves singing. Always cheerful, polite and kind, he can be childish and eccentric, his antics often cause others be annoyed with him (Dramatical Murder)

Ivan x Giancarlo. My fave <3 Gian is a lucky motherfucker, expert in jailbreak, this time it’s been decided that if he can break out with the other executives, he’ll become the boss of the mafia. Ivan is a foreign executive, always try-hard, wanting to be acknowledged and respected, maybe a little excessive at times.

Giulio x Giancarlo. Really crazy and bloodthirsty fucker x lucky one

Luchino x Giancarlo. Suave heart-breaker with issued and a past and a very interesting personality.

Bernardo x Giancarlo. Childhood friend with trauma and fear of being buried alive (Lucky Dog)

Okay, so I first saw this a couple months ago (I don’t know why I didn’t see it when you originally sent it, several months before that), and so I have no idea if you’ll ever see this. However, it did spiral me into a bit of an existential crisis about that fic and caused me to reread it. The thing is, I probably would’ve finished the fic if we ever got a season two, but considering that seems like it’ll never happen, I just don’t think I’d ever go back to it. (I do have half of a Leoji oneshot written that I might finish and post if I feel inspired whenever I end up rewatching the show, but that’s a different story)

Chapter 6

Location: Namale Island Resort (Fiji)

Group date: one of those offensive cultural appropriation-type dates that The Bachelor loves to do. Leo and Guang Hong have an almost kiss.

One-on-one date: Yuri and Otabek finally have their first one-on-one (as promised in ch5). They go snorkeling and mostly just hang out. Production is true to their word and just lets them have a nice, romantic time. Otabek gives Yuri some kind of cute, small gift. Yuri ends the date being completely convinced that Otabek only acts this way around him.

Eliminated: Chris

Chapter 7

This would have been a super long chapter

Location: Boston

One-one-one date: Phichit. It goes pretty well, and production basically makes Otabek give Phichit a (chaste) kiss at the end. Phichit doesn’t get the rose on the date because this is the episode before hometowns.

Group date: competitive group date! Sometime towards the end of the date (JJ and Yuri have been at each other’s throats the whole time) or at the cocktail party, JJ tells Yuri that Otabek only likes him sexually and tells him “sluts get cut”. Yuri punches JJ. Production makes Otabek go comfort JJ instead of talking to Yuri. Yuri is starting to panic. Leo gets the group date rose.

During the following day, production does interviews with all the contestants about what they would do if they were married to Otabek (because of his figure skating career and travel). Yuri overhears Phichit’s enthusiastic answer and freaks out. He learns about the kiss and extra freaks out.

The cocktail party is canceled!

Eliminated: Phichit

Yuri runs away in the middle of the night without telling anyone (literally). He gets a burner phone and gets Viktor’s help. Yuri is about to fly to LA to stay in Viktor’s LA home (Viktor and Yuuri are currently hanging out in Europe on vacation). Otabek shows up at the airport and they have a rom com-esque scene where Otabek confesses that he’s in love with Yuri. Yuri still would have left, but Otabek doesn’t try to convince him not to leave; rather, he says that he’ll go with Yuri. Yuri agrees, and they fly off to LA. Viktor’s driver is there and takes them to Viktor’s LA house. They basically just hang out there and have a lot of sex (offscreen) and hide Viktor’s Grammy’s. At some point the next day, Yuri realizes that they have to go back because it’s better for Otabek’s career and he doesn’t want him to face legal repercussions. Otabek reluctantly agrees. They tell Sara and Mila where they are, and they spend another day hanging out in Viktor’s house having a great time.

Back at the house, no one knows what’s happening, but they get told that Otabek and Yuri had to fly out early for Yuri’s hometown date (since they do go to Moscow). In fact, Yuri and Otabek do end up leaving from LA.

Chapter 8

Hometowns!

Yuri: Moscow — Otabek meets Yuri’s grandfather and they all have a great time. Obviously it’s the most home-ish for both of them.

Leo: Seattle (music)

Guang Hong (visual arts/culture)

JJ: Quebec

Basically, while Otabek and Yuri are in Moscow, there would be a big chunk of the chapter following Leo and Guang Hong sneaking out of their hotel and hanging out in Seattle (where they both live). They have a ‘friend’ date and do something like roller skating. They exchange numbers. There’s a cliche thing where Leo’s dog loves Guang Hong way more than Otabek. While they’re out, they get attacked by a couple members of Guang Hong’s extended family. No serious injuries or anything (Guang Hong fights back and wins) but some drama ensues. Basically, Guang Hong ends up thinking that Leo should hate him.

Eliminated: Guang Hong

Leo basically has a complete, sobbing breakdown on camera because Guang Hong is gone, but, no, he does not yet realize he’s in love with him.

Chapter 9

Fantasy Suite Week!

Location: Niagara Falls, Canada (the producers make snarky comments about how they had to reschedule their final location from some cool international destination to Canada because they blew their travel budget on Yuri’s hometown/they didn’t expect Yuri to stick around this long)

Otabek makes it very clear on camera that he is not planning to have sex during his fantasy suites, mostly so that no one can make comments about Leo losing his virginity.

Leo — Sara tells Leo he has to finally confess his love for Otabek if he wants to stick around. This spirals Leo into an existential crisis about whether or not he actually does have feelings for Otabek. They go ice skating, and Leo is just happy that he doesn’t have to go near to the Falls. Leo realizes that Otabek has no romantic feelings for him, which helps him realize that he also doesn’t feel that way about Otabek. Once they’re off camera on their overnight date, they basically spend the whole time being friends and chatting about how great Guang Hong and Yuri are.

JJ — Helicopter ride. Otabek eliminates him before the fantasy suite.

Yuri —They go on an ice wine tour. Yuri finally confesses his love for Otabek on camera. They’re both very cute and happy and have their fantasy suite date.

The chapter cuts over to Guang Hong, now back home in Seattle, as he watches episode 8 airing live. He sees Leo sobbing when he leaves.

Chapter 10

Finale!

Otabek officially breaks it off with Leo before they can even get to the final day (so Leo never has to pretend they’re going to get engaged). Leo runs back to Seattle as quickly as possible and goes to the accounting firm Guang Hong works at. All of his work friends are delighted and giggling and embarrassing. Leo and Guang Hong leave and go walk around. Leo confesses that he’s realized he’s in love with Guang Hong. Guang Hong, of course, reciprocates, and they get together officially.

Meanwhile, back on the show, Otabek and Yuri consider leaving again, but then do the traditional proposal speeches and stuff for TV. Yuri pretends to hate it but they both really do get swept up in the romance of it all. They officially get engaged.

In the intervening months, Otabek and Yuri have already gotten married. Otabek gets Yuri roses a lot and Yuri pretends to hate it. The fic would end with them sitting around ready to watch the next season.

LOS ANGELES — Angelina Jolie “sought to inflict harm” on her former husband Brad Pitt when she sold her stake in their co-owned vineyard to a Russian oligarch, new legal documents have claimed. Pitt is suing his ex-wife at the Los Angeles County Superior Court for selling her stake in the French vineyard they bought together in 2008. He said her decision to sell her share to a Russian oligarch forced him into partnership with “a stranger with poisonous associations and intentions”. Jolie has not yet publicly commented. The couple purchased a controlling interest in Chateau Miraval SA, a French company comprising a home and vineyard in the south of France, in 2008. The A-list pair got married there six years later. Pitt says he and his former wife agreed not to sell their stakes in the venue without the permission of the other. In legal documents obtained by the PA news agency, it’s alleged that Jolie sold her share to a Luxembourg-based spirits manufacturer controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler, without Pitt’s knowledge. The lawsuit claims the sale helped launch a “hostile” takeover of the wine business that the actor had “carefully built”. Today I did something I never imagined I'd do. I went to a spa, and I got a professional manicure and a facial. I'm now officially classy, and all of you may address me as Mr. Nelson.

Joking aside, when we got out of bed this morning and Yuri suggested we should freshen up before our afternoon photo shoot, I thought he meant that we'd go to a barber and get our hair trimmed or something. I had no idea what he had in mind, and when he informed me that he wanted me to go with him to a day spa, I wasn't really sure how to react. Ultimately, I just said yes, because I couldn't come up with a better reason to say no other than being worried I would seem out of place there.

Before I fill you in on the rest of the details of our spa visit, though, I have to tell you what else happened. Last night, when we came back from shopping, we got online and researched what we needed to do to get married. I became an official permanent resident recently, but because I'm still what the government refers to as a 'foreign national', we can't just show up at a courthouse with identification and ask a judge to marry us. I need a special notarized document from the Canadian Embassy, stating that I'm not married to anybody else back in Canada, and that I'm legally free to marry Yuri.

So, naturally, the first thing I did this morning after our extravagant room service breakfast was to phone the Canadian Consulate, explain what I wanted, and ask for the soonest appointment possible. The lady I spoke to offered me an appointment at four o'clock today.

I was practically weeping by the time I got off the phone with her. I hadn't anticipated it happening so quickly. I'd figured that it'd take weeks, and that we'd have to make a special trip back here. With an appointment at four, we'd have to go straight from our photo session to the Consulate, but I was sure we could pull it off.

Yuri tackle-hugged me when I told him, sending us both sprawling onto the bed. We were laughing and crying at the same time.

"We could get married tomorrow, if we wanted to," Yuri said. "Just like we said the other day. We could leave the country as a married couple."

"Do you really want to?" I asked. "I was kind of joking when I said that to Calder, but you're right. We literally could get married tomorrow."

"There's no reason to wait, is there?" he asked.

"I can't think of one."

"Then, let's do it," he said. "Let's get married tomorrow."

"All our friends are going to lose it when they find out we eloped.”

"I'm picturing how our families will react."

"You'll get to see your mother's reaction in person," I reminded him. "She's still coming here to see us, right?"

"Yes, I think so," he said. "I kind of want to see your mother's reaction in person, too. Would it be okay if we don't tell her until we get there?"

I laughed, and pulled him in for a kiss. "Have I ever told you that you're a troublemaker?"

"All the time," he said. "But, that's how you like me, isn't it?"

"Oh, you know that's exactly how I like you, future Mr. Okamoto-Nelson. Cheeky and adorable."

He snuggled close to me and took my hand. "I like how that sounds."

I smiled. "Me too."

We agreed that it would've been nice to lie there and cuddle for a while longer, but our already busy itinerary for the day had suddenly gotten that much busier, and we didn't have time to lay around. We promised each other that, later, we'd take a day just to relax and not have a schedule.

A little reluctantly, we got off the bed. We finished putting ourselves together and set out for the first destination on our list, Zen Energy Spa. It was only a block from the hotel, so we walked there. The weather was warm and it was beautiful and sunny. If it stayed like this, we'd have the perfect conditions for our photos later.

When we first arrived at the spa, an attendant showed us to a locker room, where we changed into these luxurious plush robes, just like the ones at the hotel. Then, the attendant escorted us to a little waiting room, and brought us some sparkling water with fruit in it.

It was one of the most posh things I could conceive of; complimentary sparkling water.

Yuri didn’t seem nearly as impressed as I was. He sipped his water and looked pleased. “This might be one of my favourite parts of the experience, how they make you feel welcome by inviting you in and offering you a drink. Very polite. It sets the tone for the visit. Mama says that’s important, and I agree.”

“Is that why you always offer our friends something to drink as soon as they come into our house?”

“Yes,” he said. “Mama taught me how to be a good host. She’s taught me a lot of useful skills. I kind of miss our self-care days. We could always talk more freely when my father and sisters weren’t there, and she could share things with me that she’d never be able to otherwise .”

“You and your mom had self-care days?”

"While I still lived at home, yes," Yuri said. "Mama used to bring me to the spa in town. You know, the place in Senbamachi where I usually get my nails done?"

"I still think it's funny that you get your nails done."

"Today, you're going to get your nails done. Tell me if you think it's funny after that."

"They're not going to paint them some weird colour or something, are they?"

"Not unless that's what you want," he said. "How about blue, to match your vest?"

"No."

"Don't worry," he said. "Unless you ask for something special, they'll just do a regular manicure and a clear matte polish. That's what I usually get. You think my nails look nice, right?"

"Don't get mad, but I really haven't paid all that much attention to your nails," I confessed. "There are other parts of you that I'd much rather look at."

Yuri laughed. "It's okay. To be honest, I haven't paid all that much attention to your nails either, but today I'm going to. I'm going to enjoy a nice, long look at you once you've had your manicure and your facial, and you've had your eyebrows and lashes combed, and—"

I stared at him. "Excuse me? They're going to comb what?"

"Your eyebrows and eyelashes," he repeated slowly, as if he thought I hadn't heard or understood.

"Who actually combs their eyelashes?"

He gave me a look, like I was the most uncultured person ever. "A lot of people do," he said. "I do."

"Uh..." was all I could manage.

"You'll enjoy it," he said. "And you'll look gorgeous afterward. Not that you don't look gorgeous now, but you'll be like a supermodel ready for the runway by the time these people are done with you."

I had to concede that I kind of liked the idea of looking like a supermodel. I remembered how I'd caught Yuri checking Calder out yesterday, and I wondered if random strangers might find me eye-catching like that after my spa treatment. Probably not, I concluded. It'd take way more than clear matte nail polish and combed eyelashes to make people notice me for something besides my hair.

Once again, I considered dyeing it, like my cousin Leo does. The only time anyone pays attention to Leo's hair any more is when he's not wearing one of his ubiquitous hats and his silver roots are showing. Maybe I'd go for auburn, like my dad's hair was, or chestnut brown like Leo. Brown was my natural hair colour too, before the family curse kicked in and I started going grey at the tender age of nine. My hair was completely silver by the time I was thirteen.

Actually, it's not a curse. It's a rare genetic anomaly, and it's hereditary. My mom's mother has it, and she passed it on to Mom and Uncle Stephen, who passed it on to me and my cousins Leo and Kiki. My other uncle, John-Paul — or JP as we call him — doesn't have it and neither do his two daughters. Leo and Kiki’s sister, Alessandra, doesn't have it either, which makes me wonder whether or not my sister Caroline would've escaped it. I like to think she would have.

In my mind, Caroline will always have the same auburn hair as our father. Dad's hair might've been getting grey like mine by now, though, since he would've turned fifty-one this past summer, if he were still alive.

I wish you were here, Dad, I thought. It wasn't the first time I'd made that wish, even though I knew it could never come true.

There have been so many important moments in my life that my dad didn't get to share with me. He didn't get to attend my graduation from high school or college, and he wasn't there to see me win a silver medal in snowboarding at the Canada Winter Games. He wasn't around when I learned to drive, got my first job, fell in love, or when I decided to travel halfway around the world to be with my soulmate.

And now I'm getting married, and you won't be here for that, either.

It wasn't his fault, of course. That morning, when he'd gotten in his car to take my baby sister to a routine doctor's appointment, none of us had any way of knowing that he wouldn't be coming back. Nobody could have predicted that he would be struck by an impaired driver while innocently crossing the street in front of the doctor's office with my sister in his arms.

Even though it happened almost twenty years ago, the memory still feels fresh sometimes. I'd been sitting in my classroom at school, trying to concentrate on my reading, when the vice-principal came to the door and called my name and said she needed me to go with her to the office. In the seat behind me, Leo was giggling and poking me while my friend Jacob, sitting next to me, taunted me about being in trouble. I didn't know what to expect, so I'd simply followed the vice-principal out of the room and down the hall.

My mom was there when we got to the office, and I didn't need to be told that something awful had happened. Mom had looked haunted. She wasn't crying or anything. She just had this terrible, empty look on her face, like someone had extinguished the very essence of her. In a way, I suppose they had. She was devoted to my dad, and I never understood until I was older and I'd met my Yuri, how much another person can become a part of you. Mom lost more than a partner when she lost my father. I think a piece of her soul died with him, and she's never fully recovered from that.

I know with absolute certainty that if anything ever happened to Yuri, I'd respond the same way. There could never be room in my heart for anyone else, because even without him, the space he occupies there would always be filled with my memories of him.

I think that's part of the reason I want to marry him. I'm sure getting married isn't going to change anything about our relationship itself. My heart and soul and body are his, one hundred percent, for the rest of time, and no piece of paper from the court is going to make one bit of difference to that. Getting married just makes it seem more reinforced somehow, like putting a stamp on our unbreakable bond that says 'this is an unbreakable bond', so everybody will recognize it for what it is. Certifying it like that will make it easier for people to understand our shared joy, and — Watcher forbid — our pain if anything should ever separate us.

I must've been quiet for too long, because Yuri reached across the space between us and took my hand. "Victor? Are you okay?"

"Yeah," I said. "I was just thinking."

"About what?"

"My dad," I told him. "Just imagining what he'd think of all this."

"You being at a spa, you mean?"

"Yeah, but about me being here with you and about us getting married, and I don't know... Everything in my life, I guess."

"I think your dad would be happy, and he'd be proud of you," Yuri said. "I think he'd be glad to know the person you grew up to be."

I smiled. "Thanks. I like to think that, too."

We drifted into an easy silence after that, still holding hands, slowly finishing our fruit-flavoured drinks.

Soon, the attendant came to collect us, and escort us to another room where an aesthetician was waiting. She introduced herself as Aretha, and said she'd be looking after both of us.

When she asked me what I wanted done, I kind of froze and had to glance over at Yuri for some quick help. Looking slightly amused, he explained to Aretha what we'd like, and followed up with, "It's Victor's first time."

Embarrassed, I blurted, "I'm only here because we're getting married tomorrow."

Aretha grinned. "Well, that's an excellent reason to be here. I'll make you extra handsome for your wedding, and you'll feel so refreshed that you'll want to come back."

"My first time, but not my last?" I said.

"Exactly," she affirmed. "Now, don't be nervous. Have a seat, and we'll get started."

Aretha chatted to me about sports and dogs and cooking, and she put me completely at ease. I started out nervous, but by the time she was finished with the nails on my left hand, I was totally relaxed and ready for her to start on the right.

Clear matte nail polish actually looks really nice and not feminine at all, and having all that goo on my face for the facial wasn't too bad. I probably won't ever let anyone comb my eyelashes again, but I can totally see me going with Yuri to the spa in Senbamachi to get our nails done together.

After our beautifying spa treatment, which was ridiculously pricey, we went back to the hotel to get changed for our photos. We opted to drive to the park, because we wanted to stay clean and neat, and we also didn't want to lose time waiting for a bus and risk being late. Plus, we'd need to drive to the Consulate afterwards.

We ended up getting there before one o'clock, so we strolled around the pond while we waited for Calder.

"Do you think it's a good idea to wear our rings for the pictures?" I asked. I hadn't been entirely sure about it myself when I'd suggested it, back in our hotel room. "I mean, we're not married yet."

“These really are going to be our wedding photos now," Yuri said. "When we first arranged this, calling them our wedding photos was only a joke, remember? But, now it's real. We should have our wedding rings on."

"I'm still letting that sink in. That it's real."

"So am I," he admitted. "It probably won't, for a while."

"I think it will for me tomorrow, when I'm putting your ring on you instead of watching you put it on yourself," I said. "If I cry a little bit, don't be surprised, okay?"

"You cry over everything, Victor. I'll be surprised if you don't cry a little bit tomorrow."

"When you have a courthouse wedding, do you think they do that thing at the end where they pronounce you spouses and say you can kiss? Because if they do, that's probably when I'll really be crying. It'll be just like something from a movie."

Yuri laughed. "I thought you said you didn't like romances."

"I never said that. I like romantic movies. Just not the historical ones with all the high society people and etiquette and stuff."

"We'll work on your appreciation of etiquette," he said. "Anyway, if the judge doesn't say anything at the end about kissing your spouse, that doesn't mean you can't kiss me on the steps of the courthouse on the way out. I should reasonably expect a kiss from my husband on the occasion of our marriage."

"Count on it," I said.

Calder finally arrived, lugging a massive bag of equipment with them. When they saw us, they set their bag carefully at the base of a tree, and trotted over to greet us. They looked almost as excited as we did.

"Such a lovely day!" they exclaimed. "We couldn't have asked for better weather. I'm going to make the two of you look absolutely fabulous in these photos."

And they absolutely did.

We spent a couple of hours with them, and I'm not even sure how many pictures they took. They showed us some of the raw shots on their camera, and everything looked amazing. I'm not always keen to get my picture taken unless I'm taking a selfie, but I have to say, according to what I saw on Calder's camera, I looked like I was enjoying this particular photo shoot.

I loved how everything looked so natural. Calder let us wander around and play and cuddle, and they simply followed us and captured us being ourselves.

We'll show you everything when Calder finishes the post-processing and sends us the finished product. I can hardly wait to share it with everyone, but as my Uncle Stephen likes to say, patience is a virtue. Unfortunately, it may be a virtue I lack.

We rushed off to the Consulate after saying so long to Calder. I've already been to the Canadian Consulate twice since I've lived here, so at least I knew how to find it without getting lost. I'm glad I remembered to bring my passport and my permanent residence document, because as it happened, I needed both, along with my driving license, for identification.

The notary I met with helped me fill in a form declaring that I wasn't currently married to anyone, and that I have no former spouses either living or deceased. Then, she asked me to swear an oath, just as if I was giving testimony in court, that what I'd written in my form was the truth. She watched me sign the form, and after I was done, she signed it and then sealed it with this big embossed seal. She signed and sealed photocopies of my passport and permanent residence document and attached those to the back of the paper we'd signed.

With that, she congratulated me on my upcoming marriage, and sent me on my way.

It was dinnertime by the time we got back to the hotel, so we made a quick trip up to our room to put my paperwork and our rings away safely, and then we went back downstairs to the restaurant. I'd won a gift certificate for a free meal in the dartboard contest on Monday night, so we were going to take advantage of it by ordering the most expensive and delicious looking things that appealed to us.

Yuri ordered salmon sashimi with ginger, and since they also had western-style food on the menu, I got a steak and garden salad. I decided to try the tropical fruit drink. Yuri had apparently learned his lesson on Monday, because he chose a de-alcoholized white wine that was labelled as Sparkling Grape.

For dessert, Yuri had some sort of pastry and I had cheesecake. It was possibly the best dessert I've eaten since I left my home country.

Halfway through dessert, I noticed Yuri gazing distractedly out the window. From my position, I couldn’t tell if he was looking at anything in particular, or if he was lost in thought.

“Are you all right?” I asked him. “You feeling okay?”

“Hmm…” he said, and it took him a second to turn his attention to me again. “Oh, sorry. Yes, I’m fine. Just daydreaming a bit.”

“About tomorrow?”

“Yeah, and after tomorrow.”

“Anything you can share?”

“I thought I’d never get married,” he said. “Not for real. I fantasized about it a lot when I was a teenager, and in my head, my wedding was always this big, elaborate event with lots of flowers and a horse-drawn carriage and a hundred guests.”

“Sounds like a fairytale,” I said.

“It kind of was,” he said. “I was always marrying some famous person, and as fun as it was to imagine, I knew it was just pretend. In my heart, I was sure no one at all would want me, let alone somebody like that.”

“But, someone does want you,” I said. “Always you. Only you.”

“I know.” He smiled softly. “And I’m thankful every day for you.”

“I’m sorry you’re not going to have the fancy wedding you dreamed about.”

“I’m not sorry,” he said. “I don’t really want that any more, anyway. It was a nice dream, but that’s all. What I’ve got in real life is so much better, and I’ll be honoured to marry you at the courthouse tomorrow.”

OK SO HERE’S MY CURRENT LIST OF LGBT MANGA THAT I READ THIS YEAR (+ spiciness indicator for sexy scenes)

EDIT: I will be adding recommendations to this list as I encounter them! Today I am adding Raiatea!

My absolute favorites:

I Hear The Sunspot - this BL has a romance that I really enjoy. A lot of characters are involved in the deaf/hard of hearing communities which is really unique and interesting; I really enjoy manga where I feel like I’ve been immersed not just in the characters’ relationships, but in the world they inhabit. No presence of LGBT community as of yet, so it is a little bit “yaoi-ish” in that way, where a M/M couple just kinda. Exists. But I love this to bits and Taichi is just a delight to watch. A goofball with a heart of gold. The more intimate moments between Taichi and Kouhei never fail to make me turn into goo. I think the fact that the author didn’t realize she was writing a story for a BL magazine until late into the first volume (YEA H) is actually part of what made this so great. Nothing TOO spicy (yet) but they try 🤣

Love Me For Who I Am (FukaBoku) - the artstyle is misleadingly moe/loli, so I recommend giving it a try for at least a few chapters even if the art style is off-putting to you. A very thoughtful story about several LGBT youths with a nonbinary lead finding their identities and learning to respect each other, all of which more or less revolve around this maid café that employs AMAB individuals as waiters/waitresses. There’s a really scary gender dysphoria scene later in the series that haunts me but worry not as the ending is happy and hopeful. Mogu is wonderful and Tetsu is SUCH a good boy. There’s a lot of wholesome moments with the friend group! One could easily imagine a sequel about Mogu and Tetsu or several spin off series based on any of the major side characters, still a lot of untapped potential here despite the satisfying ending. Nothing TOO spicy.

Our Dreams at Dusk - this one is probably the artsiest and easily the most acclaimed of my recommendations, and is written by an x-gender mangaka! (X-gender being the term used for nonbinary people in Japan). I need to reread this one to refresh my memory to be honest but similar to FukaBoku it features a diverse cast of LGBT people, with a gay teen lead. Really good, maybe a bit heavy? But it ends well and had a lot of realism. It isn’t my favorite and I do have a few small nitpicks. But I can’t overstate the value of this as a manga that’s not trying to be yaoi/BL or yuri/GL, and actually talks about realistic LGBT experiences. Nothing spicy!

The Boy Was A Bride - adorable and flawless. This is a bit of an educational manga (both about the LGBT community at large and the situation of LGBT, specifically teans people in Japan) but it’s so wholesome and cute that I think I will read it again and again. An autobiographical manga by a trans woman about her transition and her relationship with the person who would become her husband! Nothing spicy!

Boku ga Otto ni Deau made - this one hasn’t been translated officially yet. It’s a manga adaptation of an autobiographical essay written by Ryosuke Nanasaki, Japanese gay activist who owns a company that helps LGBT people organize Buddhist wedding ceremonies (even though they can’t legally get married in Japan… yet!) I would recommend reading the essay if you can read Japanese (or if you find a full translation, PLEASE tell me). The characters are so prettyyyyy in this art style, I can’t 😭 CONTAINS SPICINESS

How do We Relationship? - I tried, lord KNOWS I have tried to find a wlw romance manga that I enjoyed. I have had very little luck (I’m not super patient so if the characters feel in any way off in the beginning or if things feel shallow I drop what I’m reading/watching like a hot potato… could not get into the Bloom Into You anime because of that damn kiss. ANYWAY). This one finally hit the spot! The art style is SO GOOD, the main’s love interest is spunky and fun, and it just feels very true to life. The weakest point is the main character who I honestly find to be a bit of a bore but let me tell you, everything else vastly makes up for her lukewarm presence. I don’t even necessarily enjoy this because of the relationship, it’s just a good college slice of life story. CONTAINS SPICINESS

Harukaze no Étranger (and the one-shot prequel, Umibe no Étranger) (manga, although Umibe has a movie. Still recommend the manga more) - I’ve been thinking about this series and I think my main take away is the atmosphere. The feeling of having a life in a place, surrounded by loved ones. What I love isn’t the sequence of events so much as the feeling that time is passing… seasons are changing, years are passing by, household dynamics are shifting as circumstances change… people make mistakes, argue, make up. It’s a slice of life about a gay novelist reconnecting with his parents while bringing his boyfriend along. Their relationship feels so real, and the art style is absolutely beautiful to me. The mains are definitely adults in Harukaze despite how young they look. My one complaint is that, despite the perfection of basically everything else, Mio says he’s not gay. Like. Dude. Come on. At some point in your life you will have come across some mention of bisexuality. Right??? It doesn’t bother me too much because everything else is so realistic, but that is precisely why this is jarring. I choose to interpret it as Mio just being ignorant lol he clearly is into his boyfriend and is also into girls. Also, Fumi, Shun’s new younger brother, is adorable. CONTAINS SPICINESS

Umareru Seibetsu wo Machigaeta! (I was born the wrong sex!) - This is another autobiographical manga! It follow a Japanese trans woman as she travels to Thailand for SRS with Dr Suporn. Besides being very informative, the manga is HILARIOUS, which is a feat considering how honest it is about the pain and struggles of recovery. I have to note that this is already the second story I read where the spouse of a trans woman doesn’t accompany her to Thailand for SRS (the first one being The Bride Was A Boy). Japanese couples…….. what are you doing!!!! Doesn’t contain spiciness per se but it IS about genital surgery, so, yeah. The more anatomical illustrations are very simple schematics, nothing graphic.

Blue Flag: Listen. I know what you think. High school romance? Love triangles? Don’t make the same mistake I did and avoid it for those reasons. Blue Flag fucking SLAPS. The first thing that struck me was the wonderful, crisp art style that molds itself to perfectly captures the mood of the scene. The facial expressions are flawless. And then it just kept getting better and better. The characterization is so clear and strong, and several scenes blew me away. This manga delves into some interesting discussions about interpersonal relationships and how gender affects them. I won’t spoil anything because going in clueless is the best way to go but I will say the story really rewards reading into the little things; it’s one of those series that gains new meanings on re-read. (Currently in the process of re-reading it myself!) Nothing spicy!

I Think My Son Is Gay: This one is just pure and wholesome. This series feels like a warm hug. It’s about a mother observing her eldest son being super transparently gay by accident, thinking about his struggles, and wishing him happiness just the way he is. The younger brother is an absolute king and we stan. This one was written by a gay mangaka who eventually had to came out to his own mom because he was publishing this manga. Nothing spicy!

Runner ups:

Our Dining Table - incredibly cute and fluffy and wholesome BL, I just needed MORE. The story doesn’t branch out into other characters and barely changes setting, and I kinda need that for a story to feel truly great. Does not contain spiciness!

What Did You Eat Yesterday - I haven’t finished this but it’s fun. More of a recipe book than a manga?? The food looks so good and makes me ashamed of my eating habits. Anyway the leads are two middle-aged-ish gay men. I don’t know if it contains spiciness but a few chapters in and it hasn’t. Doesn’t seem like it would.

Don’t Call Me Dirty - BL again. I really like the main character and the gaggle of children that impart harsh truths makes me laugh. The resolution is very, like,,, naïvely idealistic. Serious societal issues just get fixed because someone cared. Buuut other than that it’s cute I guess. CONTAINS SPICINESS

My Husband’s Brother - Manga by a gay author about a man meeting his deceased brother’s husband for the first time. I like this one a lot, actually. It just hasn’t yet had that SPARK for me, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. Very much a bara artstyle which is neat! I want to read more manga with art similar to this, would love some recommendations. Does not contain spiciness!

Raiatea - I’m definitely going to read more works by this mangaka, Tetsuzou Okadaya. This one of the first times I’ve seen work by a Japanese author that captures a different cultural experience so convincingly. It’s in part about a man from the titular Raiatea, an island in French Polynesia. I can’t say if this is an accurate portrayal, but it definitely doesn’t feel “Japan-washed” the way portrayals of other cultures in media from over there usually feel. An extension of that is that the world feels so real, and the people feel truly rooted in it, with multifaceted lives and experiences. CONTAINS SPICYNESS.

Things with LGBT content that I didn’t read/watch this year but love:

Yuri on Ice! - it was so funny rewatching Yuri on Ice! a couple of years ago because I remembered all the back and forth in the western fanbase about whether or not Yuuri and Victor were in a relationship. I went into the rewatch fully expecting to feel disappointed by the “ambiguity.” Good lord it could not be more obvious that they’re a couple 🤣 I have a lot of affection for this series, it’s so clearly a passion project and the characters are so loveable. I became interested in ice skating as a sport because of it! Does not contain spiciness but there is that one nude scene lol. And one character in particular behaves very suggestively, for laughs.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (anime) - So I’m cheating and including based on subtext only. But if you’re like me and the gay subtext is everything, this will shake you. It’s an incredible story about a man’s life as a rakugo artist and the new generation that is by him as he grows old. Please please watch it. There is a manga which I have only started, but I hear that the anime adaptation surpasses the original. Does not contain spiciness although iirc some of the rakugo that is partially performed in passing might be erotic in nature.

My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness - Autobiographical manga. I loved this . I read the next 3 volumes the author has written thus far (My Solo Exchange Diary 1 and 2 and My Alcoholic Escape From Reality) and honestly, it was painful for me to get through. Girl has serious issues and I just want her to be ok. It’s surreal reading people write comments like “I loved this! Can’t wait for the next one!” like did you not notice she is in a self-destructive downward spiral. You can literally see the art becoming simpler in her worst moments as she describes her terrible state of mind. You are allowed to enjoy the manga but at least try to sound like you care about the person baring her life and soul in these volumes, geez. CONTAINS SPICINESS

Wandering Son (anime) - I am currently watching the anime and loving how delicate it is. The story of a trans girl and trans boy discovering themselves in a middle school setting. I binge-read the manga years ago and felt the same shock and disappointment as everyone else did about Takatsuki’s ending. A goddamn tragedy. Like, HOW. Everything else was so well-done up until that point. The manga suffers quite a bit from same-face syndrome which is helped immensely by the colors in the anime. These two reasons are why, despite not having finished the anime yet, I still feel fairly confident recommending the anime over the manga—the anime only covers a middle portion of the manga which thankfully leaves out the horrible and, frankly, puzzling ending of one of the main characters. Does not contain spiciness!

Stars Align (anime) - The fact that this series was cut short will haunt me to my grave. I need a proper continuation. I need a resolution. This is here because one of the characters is having a gender identity/sexuality self-discovery moment which is cut SHORT because the anime ended abruptly HALFWAY THROUGH. This show is heavy and I can’t recommend it unless you don’t mind that there’s no proper conclusion to anything. I still love it though 😭 Does not contain spiciness! (But big trigger warning for abuse)

So Sk8 the Infinity!

I'm going to complain and over analyze stuff in this post. Also, spoiler warning.

So I love Sk8. Absolute beauty. Mwah. However...

A second season is not out of the question, so here are some things I want to see in the new season, because the season 1 ending... it was really unfufilling.

Final spoiler warning.

-Let Shadow get the girl.

He was developing an obvious crush on her since day one, and seeing her end up in a relationship, right as Shadow plucked up enough courage to talk to her really bothered me.

-Let Miya get his friends back.

If there's a season two, this just has to happen. He definately grew as a person thanks to Reki, so he deserves to have a second chance. This is also coupled with the scene in the final credits when his old friend passed him, and said something that made Miya smile.

-Keep the rivalry between Joe and Cherry

Honestly, their petty rivaly is among the best parts of the anime. It showed no signs of stopping, and the ship was strong. Personally, I don't think Matchablossom will be canon, but wow I love the ship.

-Slow down Langa's attention and arc

There's no way to say this gently. Langa's ark went way too fast. In a matter of episodes, he was already a near pro a skating. Even if he did snowboard, it just seems unrealistic. If there's a season 2, I want to see Langa struggle a bit more. He also got way too much attention for a guy who's not the mc. The anime was basically all about him might as well make him the mc.

-Give Reki more attention and arc.

I love him with all my heart, but he was a really static character. Sure, he went through a depression phase, but he ended up right back where he started. In multiple ways. He came back to the happy, bubbly, and enthusiastic Reki we all know and love, but he also never gained any visible skill. He learned a few tricks, and that. was it. He's supposed to be the main character, but if I jumped in mid season, I could have easily mistaken Langa for that role. He easily beat all his opponents, got more camera time, and improved with little effort. Reki is supposed to be the main character. At the beginning, I was kind of happy that Reki never won. I showed that protagonists don't have to be prodigy gods at everything they specialize in. But then, over an ENTIRE SEASON, he didn't win one. He got better, moving from struggling to keep up with Shadow to almost winning against ADAM, but there were special circumstances to aid in that achievement. But his improvement was almost invisible. I didn't even realize it until I started to over analyze the anime (as I normally do).

-ADAM dies lonely in a trashcan under a bridge.

-Let Tadashi live his own life!

He may have like ADAM, both in the past and maybe even the present, but ADAM calls him his dog, and won't let him step out of line. Sure he gives him freedom, but that will only get you so far.

And last but not least

-RENGA

All in all, I love the anime, have become obsessed with the sun in human form that is Reki, and would murder Bone Studios if they even thought about taking it down.

But for season two, I would want there to be a big bad skater guy who comes rolling in, and when Langa and ADAM challenge him, they get obliterated. Langa gets hurt, and Reki, pretty mad, reverts back to their old problem of wanting to beat the person who hurt the other. But Reki knows Langa will disagree, just how he didn't want Langa to go up against ADAM, so he secretly plans to challenge him, and practices every waking moment he can so he can stand a chance against this new guy, even going as far as to miss some 'S' nights. Langa, however is just confused about why he got destroyed, and his injury stopping him from skating coupled with not thinking he needs to practice or improve, he just doesn't. Meanwhile, Miya is spending more time skating with his old friends just for fun and not bothering to improve, Shadow is trying to figure out who this guy is that's with his manager, and finds out he's just using her, so he goes on his own quest to get them to break up or show her proof that he's toxic, and Cherry and Joe are just arguing in the background, maybe throw in some financial dilemmas as well, like an episode or two. Building on financial problems, I want ADAM's family cred to go down the drain, not because of 'S', nononono, no one's touching 'S', but for different reasons. Tadashi reaches down to his inner friend and gives him support. Miya introduces his friends to 'S'. Anyways, Reki challenges the new guy, and people laugh because Reki is kinda known for being the less skilled one who hangs out with the big 6 (which is a thing that happened after the tournament), so yeah, Reki races him, beats him by literally an inch without using anything to disadvantage the guy. Langa is so freakin' excited that he tackle hugs him and pulls a Yuri! On Ice and kisses him in doing so. Season ends with , Miya goes on to the national team because his friends (both groups) encourage him to so as long as he kept doing it for fun, Shadow gets the dick away from his manager and he gets with her, Cherry and Joe staying single (but one day Cherry adopts a child and she calls both men a variant of 'dad' but the two legally aren't married, or even dating?), and ADAM, I guess he can open a small shop. Tadashi does most of the work though. He's basically ADAM's boss. I guess ADAM can have some happiness. AND FINALLY Langa and Reki get together .(Ms Hasegawa is in literal tears because not only did her baby get a friend but a boyfriend too!)

Things are going to shit, aren't they? And I mean that as a compliment actually, not in the way I would normally say it as a drama losing its way. But omg what a freaking ride, right? This ep was more on the melo, sort of nostalgic side at the start, but the second half was all about action and I love it.

I am very surprised that Taluipa took that decision. I'm sorry, but I think it's time she retires. I know she's trying to do her job and hell I would never want to switch jobs with her because it seems like such a pain in the ass, but she obviously has a a lot of power and knows an awful lot. Are you telling me that killing Jiah is the only possible way to save everyone and end this?? It's probably the most "easy, simple and fastest" way, not to mention the one that's "legal" in her position but I just can't accept that this is as far as her power and wit goes. Still, what were we expecting from a woman who killed her daughter in law before actually doing any harm and disregarded her son's pain to do so? Yikes

Also, I loved Kim Bum this ep. He was like a ray of sunshine amongst this cloudy and uncertain episode. Like yeah, I love my OTP, but I have said that too much already. We all know they are the real deal and we know they deserve that happy ending no matter what. But Rang, you know? I love him so much 🥰😍🥺
