#like cool you don't have to know everything about a culture or be fluent in a language but

soo crazy to me how in the last year with minghao, dokyeom, hoshi, joshua, junhui, and now woozi (idk if i'm missing someone) y'all are way too ready and eager to automatically throw them under the bus over something some random person (usually antis) said online and then like a day or two later when everyone comes to the consensus that it wasn't actually that big of a deal or even wrong/bad in the first place (which you could've figured out yourself from the beginning by just doing like. 30 seconds of research and exercising your critical thinking skills) everyone just moves on like nothing happened and goes back to being a fan/stanning them or whatever like you weren't just going with the crowd and shit-talking them 12 hours ago
#not even going to get into how so many problems arise from no understanding of korean/asian culture#and relying on half-assed and sometimes just straight up wrong translations#like cool you don't have to know everything about a culture or be fluent in a language but#that also means you probably shouldn't be speaking on certain things at all much less without even trying to look into it a bit more#anyways..yeah i'm sorry maybe i'm delusional but i definitely am going to default to trusting my idols#and then figuring out for myself if i really think they did something that bad or “cancel” worthy#before i'm about to believe some random twitter/tumblr/tiktok user and just go with whatever they tell me to think about something#and most of y'all don't apologize or clarify anything. just move on right after hurling the most abhorrent accusations against these people#who are people too in case anyone forgot#but then an idol kills themselves and everybody boohoo's and cries and acts like they just can't believe how this happened again#like it's you. you're why#and i can only speak on the last year of course bc that's how long i've been an actual carat and kept up with them to this extent#i'm sure other stupid stuff has happened before that too with other members#i just think if you're so ready to toss away your idols without giving them like any benefit of the doubt whatsoever you just need to go#i hate when i see this stuff too bc i'm usually only seeing the korean side of stuff and most of these things are such a non-issue here#bc people know better (not saying there aren't some crazy fans everywhere but)#then i see some dumb shit on tumblr dot com that either only has links to some dumb twitter thread#or i have to search for on twitter because again. i do not see stuff from int'l fans unless i am forced to or look it up intentionally#and just saying the timing of these things is always so calculated by antis and y'all fall for it every single time#this is all i have to say bc i just remembered the whole thing abt ppl trying to say hao was being fatphobic or something dumb#and then i remembered everything else and it just made me mad all over again lol#if anyone disagrees with any of this feel free to block me🥰

dream /neg
i saw this posted and got so mad i ranted but didn't want to reblog someone's post like that so i decided to just make my own-
HEAVY DREAM /NEG!!!! DON'T LIKE IT? BLOCK ME AND MOVE ON
Tumblr media
quackity made qsmp because of his experiences as a bilingual creator and his want to bring his two worlds together. He wanted to help break down language and culture barriers, which he LITERALLY DID ON THE FIRST DAY THROUGH THE WALL. I can't imagine a reason dream has for this other than...attention? idk. Everything about this screams that he just wants to do what quackity is doing but "bigger and better" and that misses the point of qsmp and, even if I'm wrong about his intentions, makes dream look kinda like a dick.
Oh, first-ever bilingual server? well here's the first MULTI-LINGUAL SERVER, which hinges on the technicality that 'multi' here means 3+, not 2+, even though multiple just means 'more than one'. But that technicality is bullshit!!! So, no, actually, QSMP is the first Multilingual server. Fuck off!!!!!
The addition of 'live translation' is iffy to me, I checked out his video on the mod just to make sure I know what I'm talking about and... yeah it's iffy at best. It's technologically cool, and I will give him credit for making a mod for this. However, that's not that much praise all things considered. Practically, you'll have to constantly be looking at other people's character's ALL THE TIME in order to have a conversation with them, which isn't feasible in a natural way. I'm honestly not going to say much about the translations themselves because I'm only fluent in English. However, I still highly doubt that his mod will pick up on any nuances and slang in a different language
Basically, it would have been better to not do this to not bother with a mod, and to encourage others to learn different languages LIKE QUACKITY DID.
Large servers with 60+ people and 6 leaders...so like they all get grouped together? What is this a shitty model un? And with the leaderboard, I want to laugh at the idea that this is a very very bad take on Minecraft Olympics. What will they score, achievements? How many kills someone can get in a tournament-style bracket? How many blocks mined? What on earth is 'language ranking'???? This is a server that already had multiple languages set on the premises of uniting there isn't a need for another gimmick? TBH im so baffled on this that I'm curious enough to not seriously talk shit on that part but that doesn't count for the next thing I'll rant about-
"with equal say in decision making"- First of all FUCK OFF /SRS. The biggest issue people had with the dsmp was that smaller streamers weren't listened to. They constantly tried to stream with others to get their storylines going, and yet nothing. It was also heavily implied that the main person ignoring everyone and not communicating well behind the scenes was FUCKING DREAM. First of all, as the main server admin, owner, and Guy In Charge, that's horrible management. Yet he's never spoken about it as far as I'm aware. He's never given a reason he's so unreachable. So, if I'm correct, that makes THIS COMMENT the first time he's mentioned the dsmp's shit communication issues and it's done in such a backhanded way I want to scream like YOU WERE THE ISSUE DREAM. It's just tacky, imo.

During A23 podcast Jason Schwartzman was talking about his daughter diagnosis to Fred Armisen. This gave me so much respect to Jason. His daughter is Autistic cause I knew it from Sesame Street fav episode talk. This makes me happy I am on The Spectrum so I understand. I know something's about sign language I have 2 books and I did my senior year high school project on deaf culture and sign language.
Fred: Well, I really wanna learn American Sign Language.
Jason: Yes.
Fred: I've learned a few words along the way...
Jason: Yes.
Fred: but, only in a sort of self entertaining kind of way.
Jason: Right.
Fred: Look at this cool sign. Look at this cool sign.
Jason: Right.
Fred: As opposed to really studying it and being as fluent as possible, as I can. I think, in general, it would be a good language for everyone to learn.
Jason: Yeah.
Fred: Whether or not you can hear is...
Jason: Absolutely.
Fred: Why aren't we learning this extra way of talking to each other
Jason: In fact, I met a girl who knew American Sign Language. I asked her how she learned it. She said it was offered as a language in her school.
Fred: How could you not take that class?
Jason: Yeah. Isn't that interesting? Yeah. My middle child, she learned sign language. She's a special needs child and has trouble with speech. She understands everything she hears. I don't have to speak sign language to her. Communication and talking is very challenging for her. Sign language became a very incredible thing in our lives actually. My older daughter, she was two and a half or three when my daughter was born, Una. She was about four when we started to have to learn the American Sign Language.
Jason: It was amazing, because my daughter, my elder daughter learned it so quickly. It's really... Our little kid now does it. What I'm so curious about, is... I'm only in the very basic stuff. Again, because I don't have to use sign language to communicate with my daughter. I know it, so that I can kind of understand what she's saying to me. Also, I didn't ever put all of this together. Sometimes, her fingers aren't as dexterous, so she... You kind of make your own home signs, in a way. You have your own language.
Jason: I'm curious how nuanced sign language gets. For instance, if I was to ask my mom now, something about life or death and she was to have, say, kind of, a more poetic or metaphoric answer, I'm curious to know how poetic and metaphoric you can get with sign language. Right now I'm just in that... I'm in the very beginning where I'm learning, this is happy, this is sad, this is... I'm curious to know, is there a word for bittersweet? I'm just trying to figure out how nuanced it gets. I do think it is a beautiful... It's so beautiful. It's an amazing language.
Fred: It really is.
Jason: It's incredible. I love it.
Fred: I took like ...
Jason: I love it.
Fred: I've taken a couple of private lessons, right?
Jason: You have.
Jason: For when my daughter was diagnosed with her thing, which is DNA related, I bought a book called genetics for Dummies and uh, and I learned, you find you really don't know so many things—

-JIN-
The Worldwide Handsome eldest member who possess gentle calmness and inner strength
In little moments of our daily lives, (we) show consideration to each other. This contributes to what makes us BTS.
🐹: I’m the eldest of the team, and rather than being concerned about age hierarchy, i’m more of the type that prefers to meet people halfway. I wasn't very conscious of (age hierarchy) in the past, but recently I've started to think something along the lines of the "culture of treating people differently just because they are older or younger isn't good", and this type of relationship (based on age hierarchy) might seem insipid. A part of what makes us BTS is that it's not just me, but everyone in BTS who thinks like that. It can be felt from the little things in our daily lives that we show consideration to each other for everything. If (any of us) thought that "(Any of) the members would dislike this", then the other members would say "It would be better to stop (doing that)" before it happens. Other than that, charms of our members that only I know of... That is probably something that ARMY would know better than me. I don't watch our members that closely (laughs). Ah, RM's interview in the U.S. is interesting if you pay attention to it. His English is fluent, reliably answering questions, and (he) gives (us) the chance to reply with a few words instead of difficult English sentences. In RM's case, he excels in language study like that, for the other members, they dance well, sing very well too... I think that to be reliable and hardworking for each of our specialty is our team's forte and the cool side of each member.
Q. Any small happiness recently?
🐹: I'm into the drama called Walking Dead recently. There's a character that I didn't really like, and when I thought that (the character) looked like (they) will die, a zombie did (them) in (laughs).
Q. What kind of imagery comes to mind when you close your eyes now?
🐹: (When I close my eyes) I see zombies (laughs). (They) appear even if I close my eyes * for a long time. / *can also mean 'ignore'
Q. Something cute about the members?
🐹: Their genuine excitement when they meet their favourite celebrities at the BBMAs.
Q. A favourite part of a choreography in a BTS song?
🐹: When we bang on the table in Dionysus.
Q. How do you refresh yourself nowadays?
🐹: Zombies (bursting in laughter). I've only been talking about zombies today, but is that okay??
-JUNGKOOK-
Singing, dancing, perfect at everything. The "golden maknae" that never stops evolving.
Personally, I wish I had one particular skill that I was especially gifted at
🐰: In our new single "Lights" that's being released this time, there's a phrase in the lyrics saying "No one is perfect", and I love this part so much. It makes me think that I don't have to be perfect, and it feels kind of comforting. Many people compliment me "You can do both dancing and singing well, you're perfect!" but that's not the case at all. I wish I had a particular skill that I especially was gifted at. Trying to find it, I've involved myself in many activities, but right now, I just want to narrow down what's necessary for me, and work hard to make it my own. So with this going on, I get to feel relieved that I don't need to be perfect when I listen to the song. Oh, I don't have a skill I'm especially talented at, but I do have something I'm bad at. Using my brain! This is the one thing I seriously can't do (laugh). Since we're on the topic of new songs, Boy With Luv is also a really great song. After all, within BTS' songs, the choreography is a little bit easy. That makes me happy (laugh). Standing on the stage continuously, it does get difficult to sustain my stamina. completely. Near the end of our concerts, it seems like I'm unconsciously wringing out my stamina forcefully. I sometimes can't move from my muscle pains on the following day. So, my number one priority now is not injuring myself. I do want to get better at maintaining myself though, including building up my body… Oh, the part of my body I'm most confident in? Ah.. (embarrassed smile). Um, I wonder where. I don't know myself. I'll work hard to build a better body!
Q. You're in the middle of your world tour, but do you have any honest thoughts?
🐰: There's a song called "Mikrokosmos" in our album, but it feels like we're looking at it in real life. It's really moving, and it warms my heart. I cherish it thinking how much of a happy time it is.
Q. What kind of a scenery comes to mind when you close your eyes?
🐰: A lot of things come up, but they're not clear. Something is vaguely there…as if I can see it, but I can't (laugh).
Q. Anything that makes you think the members are. adorable?
🐰: Jimin. I can feel how much he loves the stage from the bottom of his heart, and I feel like we really connect in that way.
Q. What ways of refreshing yourself are you currently into?
🐰: I went to Ariana Grande's concert recently, and enjoyed it a lot. It stimulated me as a singer, and it was nice that I was able to enjoy the music from my heart.
Q. What kind of qualities does a person you admire have?
🐰: Someone who I have a lot to learn from, and can connect with me. And someone who is cool!

Hey! Bilingual with English as the second language high five! :D I just wanted to say, omg I know what you mean! Like, I can still read stuff in Spanish without it feeling weird if it was by a known classic author from Latin America or Spain, but it's hard to get into more recent stuff and god I feel so clumsy trying to write fiction in Spanish! It's such a weird feeling where you know good stuff can exist in your language but kind of prefering English because that's where your main entertainment is most of the time. And the struggle of always double checking something that sounds right to you but then you realize something is off and you gotta go google it to make sure you’re not gonna raise any eyebrows when you post it. But it’s very interesting as well, how we interpret everything based on our own languages! How we can apply our native phrases to situations that take place in other languages! (Sorry for rambling, my area of study just has to do a lot with the study of the structure and evolution of languages so this stuff is super inter to me dfgjfhfdgdshg)
DON'T BE SORRY I AM SHAKING YOUR HAND SO HARD
This quote by Yiyun Li, I feel it so hard:
It is hard to feel in an adopted language, yet it is impossible in my native language.
I feel like with classic works there's still a certain distance, but with contemporary anything? It's so close, it feels too close, too vulnerable to even try to express yourself and to such a degree that sometimes it's unthinkable that other people can
I sometimes just talk (or, well, write) anything that at some point, I just translated for myself without checking anything official, and the confusion I get in return makes me actually look things up :|
And the interpretations too!! Like, super clumsy/ blunt example, but bread. In the states, it's the ultra soft white bread ppl usually go for and talk about, meanwhile here we call it toast bread bc that's the only thing it's good for /hj /lh. All the jokes about the crust of german bread being capable of killing someone have a grain of truth <3
But I just. I just love thinking about languages like it's all so so fascinating to me, like I mentioned before I love puns, n part of the reason is just that how language works just so so cool! How often puns aren't translatable because of missing cultural context, and how people still try - I love it so so much!
I wish I'd have learned more languages - I learned Spanish for a year and a half in middle school, and tried my hand at Dutch while I was living in the Netherlands, and I did get my latinum certificate in middle school too, which makes reading romance languages at least somewhat possible. But besides English I'm not fluent in any other non German language, and it's a shame, because there's just so much cultural context hidden behind languages!

🦊 Being Inarizaki's Manager 🦊
Manager Being s Foreign Exchange Student
Tumblr media
Inarizaki x foreign manager (English as a 1st language)
Warnings: Swearing
AN: This is an Anon request! Update: my neck is slowly healing but I'm managing to write 1/2 headcannons a day! I'm thankfully about a week ahead so I'm hoping this gives me enough time to heal and keep ahead!
🌠 Please Like, Reblog and/or Share to help support my writing 🌠
Ok I just imagine being a foreign exchange student would be scary enough
But like being a foreign exchange student, managing the boys volleyball team AND attending Inarizaki 👀
Oof 😬
First off, Aran and Kita are so accepting
Aran definitely questions why you came to Inarizaki of all places 😅
Kita is totally one of those people that the school places new students with
Like he can walk backwards and direct attention to things without even a second thought 🙌🏻
I forgot to mention that this is your third year, which thank god 🙏🏻
Imagine if Atsumu had gotten ahold of you first 😅
Anyways, Kita begins to show you the lay of the land
Basic customs and etiquette that is practiced daily in school and in Japan
It's all very interesting!
Where you come from is very different from your new surroundings and a bit intimidating honestly
Kita will introduce you to Michinari and Omimi next
He's slowly integrating you yn 😊
Michinari is super interested in comparing cultural differences
Please he watches public television daily and his favorite shows are the travel shows ✋️
Omimi is more interested in you personally
Your likes? Dislikes? How you ended up here?
It's honestly a great introduction to high-school in a different country
Unfortunately for you YN, you can't have nice things 🙃
Now you are pretty fluent in Japanese but let's just say English is your first language
You have a basic knowledge and understanding down but it's different in practice
So when the final dismissal happens, you manage to somehow get lost
You misread a sign and ended up in a remote part of the school
A part of the school that just so happens to be home to the sports team rooms
You stop when you see a sign and grab your phone to help you translate
"What are you doing?"- Osamu, eating food and staring at you 😐🍙
"Umm I think im lost?"- you 😬
"Hey aren't you that new foreign exchange student?"- Ginjima says behind Osamu
"Yes I'm YN"- you, extending your hand to shake
They both look from your hand to you
"Oh Im sorry, I'm still getting use to the proper customs"- you
"Hey dumb- well well well who do we have here?"- Atsumu 😏
"Kita's gonna be mad if we don't get practice"- Suna just staring at his phone and walking past, completely oblivious
"Wait you know Kita?"- you
Atsumu will narrow his eyes at you 😑
You could be all of 5'0" tall and this man will still try to assert dominance 🙄
"What do you want with our captain?"- Atsumu
Osamu will roll his eyes and push Atsumu aside
"Kita has been helping me out. I'm just not sure where to go from here"- you, your eyes now welling with tears 🥺
"HEY" - Kita shouts as he and the other third years run to your side
"You guys better not have been bothering YN!"- Aran
"Atsumu was"- Suna
"I WAS NOT! TELL THEM YN!"- Atsumu
You don't speak
Osamu takes this as a verbal que to smack Atsumu 😅
"YN is from a different country you guys, make her feel welcome!"- Michinari
"That's so cool YN! You should be our Manager"- Ginjima, literally not even caring anymore
Mans wants a manager
He prayed 🙏🏻 for one
He's literally that desperate
"Ahhh I uhhh I'm not sure I'd be a good manager"- You 😅
"Nonsense! You'll do fine!"- Ginjima is literally dragging you to the gym
Ok guess you have no choice YN 🤣
Kita doesn't say anything because like he wants a manager too
And like you're cute soooo 👀
Anyways, that's how you become the manager
You soon find yourself being very immersed in everything
Eating meals with the team to pregame exchanges are all a learning experience
And you make your fair share of mistakes 😐
It happens YN, we all make mistakes
But unfortunately Atsumu is on your team and like you know 🙄
"Geez YN, you've been here for what? 2 months? Haven't you learned anything?"- Atsumu
He's an actual menace to society
#bullyatsumu2022
Osamu smacks him ✋️
Kita simply 🎆pretends🎆 he doesn't see it
He can watch the recording on Suna's Instagram story later 🤣
Eventually, you start getting the hang of traditions, customs, and etiquette
Also you learn the quirks of the team
Like how strick Kita is with his cleaning
How to motivate Suna
How to reassure Aran and Ginjima
How truly annoying Atsumu is 😅
Your true test comes in the form of nationals
You managed to survive the holiday season in Japan with the help of Kita
Seriously he literally made sure you had the whole experience
When it came to Nationals however, you were unprepared
Sure you had seen big sporting events but this...
This was a whole other level!
Seriously there is 104 teams 😅
To say it's chaotic would be an understatement 😅
Luckily for you, Aran and Michinari are there to hold your hand
Seriously it's like walking in a forest YN hold on!
You take to your tasks much as you normally do
That is until you see an orange haired child starting at you 👁👄👁
You jump a little because Hinata can be all "children if the corn" when he wants to be
"Hey you aren't from here are you? Are you lost?"- Hinata
You just look around, finally pointing at yourself
"No im the manager for Inarizaki"- you
"Oh nice! I'm Hinata and I'm a middle blocker for Karasuno. Are you sure you're from around here?"
"Well I'm actually a foreign exchange student but I'm managing Inarizaki for the year! Oh and my name is YN"
Hinata is blown alway that you are from a different country
Lile he will literally pop a squat next to you and just talk
It's actually really sweet
Until it's ruined 🙄😒
"You're that little ginger who jumps around Tobio all the time"- Atsumu says coming up behind Hinata
"What do you want with YN?"- Suna
You 👉🏻😐🙄
Hinata 👉🏻 I uhhh 👁👄👁
"He was just talking with me! He's been really sweet"- you
Apparently those are triggering words for our boys YN
"Youve never called me sweet before YN"- Atsumu
"That's because you're not"- you 😐
Ouch 🤣
"Good one YN"- Osamu coming up besides you
Poor Hinata is now crowded by Inarizaki members 😅
"Just for the record YN, I never liked you"- Atsumu
"I like you YN"- Hinata 🥺
"HEY BACK OFF OUR MANAGER"- Atsumu
Seriously you get whiplash from this man 😐
"Lets go YN"- Suna, grabbing your hand and pulling you away
Honestly he's saving you 😅
I'd say you've handled your transition to a foreign country well YN 😍

ack anon with the dress hcs here- tysvm for those!! my heart~ ok so another random idea i just needed to share but bakugou/deku/todoroki first frenchie kiss with their s.o. and neither of them have much experience 😖 lots of fluffy awkwardness y'know? idk. again go ahead and add on but don't stress yourself!
FRENCH KISSES WITH THEIR S/O [GN!HEADCANNONS]
[ft. bakugo katsuki, izuku midoriya, todoroki shouto]
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: someone decides to bring of french kissing and as expected; its chaotic.
WORD COUNT: french kissing? nothing explicit, very mildly suggestive
WARNINGS: kissing, maybe second hand embarrassment but i doubt it, awkward situations
A/N: my search history is “how to french kiss now” which is the main reason i held off on doing this one ajkshdkjah also this is my first time writing for our boy deku so uhhhh be kind to me, also anon you are now dress anon also i tried something new because i couldn’t bring myself to write full scenarios also i can’t write for midoriya i TRIED BUT I THINK HIS IS BAD
Tumblr media
BAKUGO KATSUKI
Tumblr media
HEADCANNONS + MINI SCENARIO
lol this is funny
THIS
this is peak comedy right here
hes gonna be so embarrassed but hes gonna try to act like hes completely unaffected by everything that is going on
i feel like he knows what french kissing is and has definitely thought about french kisses with you but he would never bring it up because it embarrassing for him
he might just randomly try it and place you in a complete state of shock, like y’all are just making out and— whoops would you look at that somehow you two are now french kissing! wonder how that happened...
if you ask him he will flat out deny you the first time around because he is embarrassed, but keep trying!! after a few attempts he’s gonna claim to be annoyed but it’s actually because he wants to
“Hey Katuski, you know what we should do—”
Bakugou slams the textbook that laid on his lap shut, a sound reverberating through the library the two had gone two, which earned him a strict glare from the librarian seated at the front desk. His eyes narrowed as they look to Y/N, “if you say French kissing, I swear I will break up with you right now.”
Despite his harsh words, Y/N can see the pink blush that dusts his cheeks as they lean forward on their arm, tilting their head at him innocently as they reply, “actually, I was thinking we could go see a movie later.” Their words only worsen the blush on Bakugou’s cheeks, causing him to snap his head away in an attempt to salvage some of his reputation, “but that works too.”
“Shut up you damn nerd.” The boy grumbles, brows furrowing as he leans back in his seat, looking away as he says, “if it’ll get you to stop asking then I guess we can try it.” Y/N is about to open their mouth to reply but Bakugou quickly adds, “only once though! Damn nerd...”
A grin finds its way onto Y/N’s face and they nod slowly, “great.”
“I hate you.”
honestly i feel like he would lowkey be bad at it the first time around and bakugou is the type of person where if he tries something and isn’t good at it immediately he either avoids this activity entirely or tirelessly works to improve his skill
luckily for you this happens to be a skill that bakugou wants to improve, alot because for some reason you wanted to try this and if he’s not good at it then whats the point
regardless the first time around is like a solid 6.75/10 sorry bakugou oops, you tried, but i feel like he’s already a really like aggressive and like harsh kisser so this is just gonna make things a mess
he can be soft sometimes tho i swear
i feel like he would get good at it after some ~practice~ but even then its a rare occurrence to french kiss with bakugou, its really intimate and he saves it for special occasions or when hes bored lol
Tumblr media
IZUKU MIDORIYA
Tumblr media
HEADCANNONS + MINI SCENARIO
THIS ONE
OH YOU ARE GOING TO KILL HIM WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO AND DO THIS like apologize, apologize rn for the stress you are about to cause him
if you try to initiate a french kiss with izuku here, you NEED to tell him ahead of time or else things will go south very very fast. he’s going to panic because this is new and he does not understand what is happened oh my-
give him a heads up whenever you want to try something new, so when you pull this while kissing him he’s going to pull away like what a r e you d o i n g
once you tell him he’s gonna be like let’s do this tomorrow, and then will spend the rest of the day RESEARCHING how to french kiss properly, like he’s on wikihow and everything this boy wants to treat you right and is going to make sure you enjoy it
which is when when y’all finally french kiss he is going to be good at it okay, he’ll learn every strategy possible and then he will be a PRO like you’re probably going to be shocked for a hot minute because wait when did he have the time to get good at this—
you’re definitely his first partner and he had no experience prior to you but he trained himself because going into any anything blind and without a plan places him in a state of distress
this was a PLANNED EVENT it was like a date except without all the date stuff just french kissing, like he texts you “hey lets try that thing you wanted to try...” all shy and stuff like he literally took five minutes to actually send the text, and you are trying to figure out what that thing is because deku do you mean like the coffee shop ?? what ??
you make him specify and he nearly dies but its fine its fine, when he finally gets his point across you’re like okay! cool!
overall its a pretty nice experience, i feel like he would be really gentle with you per usual but it was also probably really awkward like homeboy fr sat you down on the bed and just stared at you with bright red cheeks for like
a really hot minute
Y/N brow raised as they stared at Izuku, who’s eyes had pierced into their head since they’d sat down. Oddly enough, Y/N found his meticulous planning of this to just make the situation more awkward, it had done nothing to relieve the burning sensation in their cheeks. But Y/N had a feeling that only one of them could flustered about this or else everything would fall apart rather quickly. It had also been their idea in the first place so, there was that factor too.
“Are you alright, Izuku—”
“FINE. I—I’m fine, I mean.” He cleared his throat as he sat across from them, his cheeks a bright red color as Y/N tilted their head at his antics.
A small laugh escaped them, “If you don’t want to do this Izuku, we don’t have to.” He’d always been easily flustered, so Y/N couldn’t say his reaction came as a shock, but he’d agreed to it nonetheless just yesterday.
This seemed to bring the boy back to reality as he shook his head, “no... I want to.” He straightened in his seat, looking away from Y/N as he tried to collect himself.
A grin spread across Y/N’s face as they leaned closer to Izuku, “fantastic.” Their words only served to fluster Izuku further, though Y/N could feel their cheeks warming as well.
“Right.”
french kissing will not be a regular occurrence, izuku feels embarrassed whenever it happens, he gets shy, all around a very rare thing for him that will only occur if you initiate it, but PLEASE let him know ahead of time, he needs to mentally prepare himself
he enjoys it though
hehe
Tumblr media
TODOROKI SHOUTO
Tumblr media
HEADCANNONS + MINI SCENARIO
why am i laughing rn
okay but like shouto probably discovers it online entirely by accident or like hears kaminari talking about it and decides he should educate himself because hes fluent in french and knows alot about the culture of france because of all the tutors his father hired so why doesn’t he know what this elusive french kissing his?
shouto is also fluent in kissing he honestly just really enjoys kissing you, he doesn’t know why but its probably because hes touch starved and just likes intimacy like that but he never really knew how much he liked physical touch until he actually experience it [in a positive way] and also you are SOFT :D
regardless shouto is the one who brings it up and honestly you are gonna be shocked because how did this clueless bb find out about that??? sir??? who is teaching you these things?
“You want to do what?”
Y/N couldn’t help the shock that flooded them as they stared at their boyfriend, Shouto Todoroki, who sat with his legs crossed before them on the bed as he replied, “French kissing.” The boy in question repeated, tilting his head at them as he watched her reaction.
Y/N shook their head in an attempt to clear their thoughts as they looked back up at him, meeting his eyes, “who taught you about that?” In the past, Y/N had been forced to explain... certain subjects to Shouto because of things he’d overheard in conversations or seen online. Sometimes it was entirely innocent and other times, well it wasn’t. This time around, it seemed Shouto had took it upon himself to learn, rather than asking Y/N.
“I don’t see how that’s relevant.” Come his response, brows furrowing at her question, “however, if its not something you’re interested in then—”
“I didn’t say that!” And Y/N couldn’t help how their cheeks warmed at how quickly they cut him off, hands coming to their face in embarrassment.
the internet and unintentionally kaminari, or maybe intentionally
he doesn’t do any research in fact, he might not even bring it up, next time he sees you in a private space, he’s just gonna start kissing you and you’re probably gonna be like aight bet thats chill this is normal
UNTIL he just grabs your thigh and in the shock your mouth gapes open and SHOUTO STRIKES
honestly i feel like he would be ridiculously good at french kissing for no reason, i don’t know why, i have no explanation, he’s just good at it
its a talent
of all the boys he is the least embarrassed he has no shame, its just natural curiosity right? whatever happens happens. it is literally so annoying how UNFAZED HE IS
probably really liked it because hes a touchy kinda guy, so this will become a more frequent thing when you two are in private, he just enjoys it

The brothers' movie
11/07/2015
Tumblr media
They don't use the same last name, but they are siblings. Pedro Pascal (40) the Chilean actor who starred in Game of Thrones and now has a starring role in the Netflix series Narcos, uses his mother's surname because it is easier to pronounce in English. 17 years younger, Lucas Balmaceda Pascal (23), also an actor, debuted in Los 80 and today stars in the TVN series Juana Brava. Here, both talk for the first time about their relationship, their love for cinema and their mutual admiration.
José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal was born in Chile, but a few months later he had to go into exile with his parents and his older sister, Javiera, to Denmark. It was the end of 1975. Thanks to the Rockefeller scholarship granted for his father, the doctor José Balmaceda Riera, a year later they moved to the United States: first they lived in San Antonio, Texas. Life there was just beginning and it was not easy.
Seventeen years later, in 1992, Lucas Balmaceda was born in Orange County, California, into the comfort of a family that was financially in its prime. His dad was at the peak of his career: as a fertility specialist and director of one of the University of California's reproductive health centers. But suddenly they moved back to Chile when Lucas was three years old and his brother Nicolas was eight. The two older ones stayed there. Pedro was already studying drama at Orange County High School of the Arts. Then he went to New York to study theater at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
After a couple of small appearances in TV series, in 2014 he took the big leap in his career: he played Prince Oberyn in Game of Thrones, which made him world famous. Today, he has a starring role in the series Narcos. He is also filming a movie with Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe.
Fame came early for Lucas. After leaving Saint George High School in 2010, he studied theater at the Universidad Católica, and he began to shine: in year fourth, he starred in the theater play "La noche obstinada", by choreographer Pablo Rotemberg, and got a role in the successful television series Los 80 and today, in his last year, he is the co-star of Juana Brava, the new TVN nighttime series.
Scene one:
Lucas appears in Pedro's life
P: "I was 17 when Lucas was born. He was a baby when I left to go to university. I remember my first visit back and Lucas, who was not even two years old, was already the owner of the house. I remember those looks, wanting to tell me: 'I don't know who you are, but this is my house, mate.
To this day I have never seen that personality in another child. It was fascinating to see that wit in someone so small. Since he was a kid he had that fierce intelligence... The four siblings, Javiera, the eldest and the queen of the family; Nicolas, the doctor; Lucas and I are like a compact and consistent unit. I can't imagine life without them".
L: "Pedro was studying at the university in New York when I was born. When he went home for vacations to see the family, as I didn't know him, I thought: 'who is this guest, who is this weirdo who kisses my mother? She's mine!'. Back in Chile, every year Pedro came to visit us. It was the most entertaining thing in the world for me. He was much older and he would come with all the coolness, with all the culture of cinema, with horror movies that were not available here. Then we would watch them and play them out, we would do sketches. We would play that Pedro was a murderous monster and we would escape from him. We were each a character. He was very funny, he did voices, he impersonated people. He gets mad when I tell him, but I've always found that he has a Jim Carrey thing about him, he manages to make some impressive faces. When he came on, I couldn't stop watching him, he was too entertaining. We are all big movie buffs thanks to my dad. When I was three years old, he took my brothers and me to see Batman. I remember crying hysterically. I was very young, sensitive, and being in the cinema was like entering to another reality: loud noises, giant screen. I didn't understand anything.
Scene two
Transplanted
P: "What's Chilean about me and what's gringo about me is a very interesting question, because I don't think even at 40 years old I've been able to figure it out. I was raised and educated in the United States and socialized a lot with American pop culture, but Chilean pride has always been unwavering. My parents were exiled for eight years. So our visits to Chile were regular. My whole life I have lived in the United States and my whole life I have visited my relatives in Chile. However, since my siblings were raised in Chile, my connection to the country is much stronger today and it is something I am grateful for. Something that happens to me a lot is that when I say I've been in the U.S. my whole life, they say, "Well, you're a gringo then! And after a conversation in my fluent Spanish with a clear Chilean accent that same person turns around and says: I've been listening to you, you're Chilean!
L: "I am Chilean because I lived and grew up here since I was three years old, but at the same time I have a cultural disconnection: my parents lived 25 years in the United States, my brothers are gringos. My visual culture is super gringo, the TV shows I watched when I was a kid or the movies I watch to this day I understand them from that place: as an American. More than being born in the United States, I feel it's because of my family's background".
SCENE THREE:
The performance
P: "There were good years and bad years (when I started my acting career in the United States). Many years I was a waiter to supplement my income. But from a very young age I was auditioning for professional jobs. In my late twenties my career in the theater was relatively consistent. Then, when opportunities in television arose, I was consolidating and it became much easier to pay my expenses. I think that struggle, going through those situations, empowers you a lot and it's one of the things I'm enormously grateful for. And Game of Thrones was an incredible gift. It's the best role I've ever played and they're the best people I've ever worked with."
L: "It's Pedro's fault that I wanted to be an actor. But when I told him I wanted to study theater it was hard for him, more than anything, because he cares about me and studying theater is hard. You have to be very wise and have a super high self-esteem to take care of yourself. Pedro went through many things. If there is an actor who doesn't have contacts in the United States, it's him. Everything he has achieved is because of his work. That's why when people ask me why I don't go to the U.S., it's a resounding no. Being Pedro Pascal's little brother is not going to get me around the corner; I would have to be Tom Cruise's twin to achieve anything. Even so, Pedro had many failed career starts. In 2011, for example, he was offered a starring role in a series called Wonder Woman and it was eventually canceled. That's why, when Games of Thrones came up, I was like, wow! We were all freaking out, because Games of Thrones is like a worldwide trending topic. All the episodes he was in, we were all watching them together at my house, eating pizza or sushi."
SCENE FOUR:
Mutual lessons
P: "I try not to get too involved in anything Lucas does or how he does it. He has single-handedly created each of his experiences and is one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen. He loves his work and is continually developing his skills for television and theater, and eventually film. He executes like a real artist and, to be honest, it is more common for me to learn something from him than for him to learn something from me. I mean that very sincerely. Lucas reminds me to work hard and keeps me inspired. When I saw him in Los 80 I was incredibly proud, but not surprised. I was seeing something I had always known. The only advice I've given him is to not be such a workaholic, to take care of himself and to be proud of what he's accomplished and what he still has yet to accomplish. Deep down, I'm always going to be the protective big brother."
L: "Pedro is an object of admiration for me. What he says is law for me. Sometimes I ask him: 'Pedro, did you see that movie?' and he says: 'Yes, I didn't like it'. I tell him: 'Oh, I didn't like it either'. The nice thing about our relationship is that it happens so sporadically, once or twice a year, that the moments when we see each other are very intense. We either fight a lot or we love each other too much, but it's always like a story, like a movie. While he's there and I'm here, we talk a lot on WhatsApp and Facebook".
P: "With Lucas we always keep each other up to date on what movies to watch, what TV shows are good. I bug him all the time asking him about what's going on in his life and I'm always asking him about his perspective on things. Despite being away from each other for a long time, Lucas and I are very close and always have been. I see Lucas at the beginning of an amazing career, with an unwavering curiosity and passion. I love it when he confides in me about things he is enjoying or situations he is dealing with."
L: "I've never seen Pedro in theater, but I've been told he's tremendous. On camera, I find that he has a very intense look. He also has, and in that we are very similar, a very strong visual culture, the fact that we have always liked horror movies. He plays characters that hide something, dark characters. A great strength is that he is very sensual, he knows how to handle himself well from seduction".
P: "Lucas is brave, he's fearless. There's nothing he's not willing to try, he's never going to give up on a challenge, he's never going to leave something halfway, no matter what that means to him. Lucas is unstoppable.

Kids Meet Foreign Member In Kpop Group (Feat. NCT) : SEREN!
[english in italic]
Tumblr media
A little boy is sitting on the floor, looking around. He was small and skinny. On his face, he wore the most adorable gummy smile.
He seemed excited.
He had been told, that he was meeting a foreign friend, and he loved meeting new people.
"Do you think they are cool?" he asks, looking at his mom and the staff. "I'll try to take care of what I say. My mommy told me to be respectful... But I always am."
Tumblr media
Seren approaches the boy, and instantly his gummy smile and aura make her feel welcome.
"Adorable," she cooed when he waves at her.
"That's English!" he says enthusiastic. "So cool!"
She sits across from him and sets aside the bag of candy she brought.
"How are you?" the boy looks at the staff, still as happy. "I'm Seren from Australia. What's your name?"
"Seren?" he repeats.
"Yes, Seren."
He looks back at the staff, but then something seems to connect in his mind. "Oh! Juwon! Name Juwon."
"Nice to meet you," she finally speaks to him in Korean, and his eyes widen in amazement. "Your reactions are so cute. I'm actually fluent in Korean."
"So cool!" laughs Juwon. "I want to learn so many languages."
"Really? I'm sure you will, one day." she sends him a friendly wink. "So, I'm supposed to have a concept, just follow me. I'm 13 years old."
He giggles. "So young! My sister is that age too!"
"Oh!, my sister too! We can all be friends!"
"She will like that — she doesn't have many friends." he frowns.
Seren thinks for a moment, frowning too. "Kids that age can be a bit mean, but I'm sure you're a great brother to her."
"Yes, I am," he assures. "Can I call you noona?"
"Of course!"
Again, he smiles at the staff and gave his thumbs up.
"Let me tell you," she says. "I'm from Australia — that's what I said earlier when I spoke in English — I came to Korea when I was... maybe 11 — no, I was 13 in Korean age."
"Noona, how old are you— No!" he covers his mouth. "Sorry, I shouldn't ask that."
She looks at him with amusement. "Okay, but I'll tell you that it's been almost ten years since I came to Korea."
Juwon thinks, doing the math in his mind. "Oh yeah yeah, I already know your age."
"You are very smart!" she claps. "Okay, so I brought you something from Australia."
"For me?"
Seren takes the bag and opens it. He quickly approaches excitedly.
"Candy!" he speaks in broken English.
She nods as she takes out a pair. "Yeah! But we call them different, lollies. It doesn't really matter that much, though, as long as they taste good."
Juwon, who is already opening a package from Freddo, nods happily.
"They taste amazing."
Tumblr media
"Were you scared when you came to Korea?" he asks with eyes full of curiosity.
"Scared? No, maybe... maybe a little," she chuckles. "But there was no need to, my family came with me. I think I was more nervous than scared because I was a timid girl."
"Really? You don't seem like that kind of person."
"Right? I've changed that."
He nods. "Why did you want to come to Korea?"
"Ooh," Seren pauses, thinking about her answer. "I want to be an artist. Like— have you ever heard of Wonder Girls? Or F(x)?"
"Yes," he hesitates for a moment. "I think— Yes, I think my aunt likes them."
"Well, I like them too, a lot. And I always wanted to be on stage, since I was little I was always singing and dancing."
"You would be a good idol."
"Thank you!"
"And are you happy?" he asks, once again with curiosity. "I mean, did you fulfill your dream?"
Seren looks at the camera for a moment and then looks at him again. "Of course, I'm happy. But— I still have that dream."
Tumblr media
"Do you like Korea?"
"Of course!" she responds happily, eating a bar of chocolate. "I like everything, the food, the people, the culture."
"And do you have a lot of friends?" Juwon questions, grabbing another candy. "I can be one of them."
She smiles at him. "I'd be happy if you were my friend. And yes, I have made some nice friendships. But," she pauses. "It was difficult the first years."
"Why?"
"Well," she explains. "Even though I knew — I know — many people, it's hard to tell the real ones apart. So when I came here, I was very friendly with everyone, but I couldn't exactly tell who my real friends were. It was until years later."
He seems to agree. "Right, right. My mommy always tells me that."
"Your mommy is a smart person. I know who you got it from," she laughs. "But Juwon, what about you? Do you have a lot of friends?"
He nods quickly.
"Yes, I am friends with many people, but best friends with only two of them," he replies. "We like to ride our bikes all the time. Sometimes we also play video games. Noona, what did you do when you were my age?"
"Your age? How old are you? About 8?" he nods excitedly. "Ooh, well, I always played hide and seek with my friends. I also went to the beach a lot with my family. I built giant sandcastles — okay, maybe not giant, but very pretty."
"So you didn't like bikes?" he seems disconcerted. It was his favorite activity.
"Yes, of course!"
Juwon smiles, relieved.
"Do you miss that? Australia, I mean."
Seren thinks before answering. "Yeah, I can't lie. My family went back to Australia like 3 years ago, so I miss it — and them — even more."
He opens his mouth, clearly surprised.
"Do you live alone? But that's dangerous."
"Oh, no, I don't live alone. Don't worry," she proceeds to explain. "I live with some good friends. They became like my second family. They are also chasing the same dream as me, so we kind of..."
"You're chasing your dream, together."
"Yes."
Tumblr media
"Actually," he tells her, pulling something out of a bag next to him. "I also have a gift for you, I was very excited when I found out that I would meet a foreigner, and the first thing I thought was about the adventures you should or are going to have." he shyly hands her the gift. "You can write all your adventures there, and that way you will remember them forever. I have one like this too, and so does my sister."
It was a notebook decorated with a bunch of colors and a lot of animated characters (probably his favorites). In big and highlighted letters, it said: Adventure Book.
"It's so beautiful," she hugs the notebook, a big smile on her face. "Did you make this?
"Yes, with my sister."
Seren's smile grows bigger. "Thank you. I love it. Also, thank your sister, I would have liked to meet her."
"I will tell her so much about you!"

Hello again!!!! I'm the Spanish girl back in here!
Firstly, I'd like to send you my best wishes for this tough week of work, and I bet we're going to miss you around here this week. But duty calls! And, look, how many people can say they've got a whole week for relaxing after a week of work? 😌 (Perhaps I've misunderstood the whole thing; I've read your posts quite quick and I've understood sth different to what you wanted to say lol)
Well, what can I say with one of the last prompts you have gifted to us...? Kate, Anthony (and his Spanish!!!!!!) and Spain; you got me there. 😂 I even cried the famous "Ole!" when I read all of it (curious note: not all Spaniards use the expression "ole" in daily contexts; it is more like a regional expression that became worldwide famous bc of several reasons that are too long to post here, lol) and I think it's needless to say I loved it... isn't it?
And, I LOVED a lot Edwina's POV and story (well, I've loved everything you have posted and gifted to us, but Eddie has a special place in my heart)! I don't know, but sometimes I get the impression that, in romantic literature, relationships between sisters are not addressed at all and kinda force them to be friends (if they're not rivals... which I find stupid, tbh), not really deepening in the bond between them. Like, they're sisters and they behave more like "my next door neighbour and friend to whom sometimes I'm distant bc life happens" instead of "this person and I share much more than many people can imagine that's beyond friendship and she's more important than anybody else" -idk if this makes sense anymore... I rewrote it a couple of times bc I got the impression I can't express my idea very well 😂-. And that's something I think both of you, JQ and yourself, have achieved and gifted to all of us! We see Edwina and Kate as sisters: they fight, they tease the other, they can't stand each other sometimes, but always, ALWAYS, they care for and love the other just as sisters do. Because of this, I think TVWLM is one of my favourite books in this genre: they give us a two fantastic love stories, not only between a -heterosexual- couple but also between sisters; which is as important as any other kind of relationship.
After my TED Talk (sorry if it's been too much... 😅), I cannot help but imagine an escapade between Anthony and Kate (sans children) and Matthew and Edwina (oh, Matthew... I love you) to Spain just for Anthony, in his stupid one-side battle against Matthew (I love this, tbh; it's sooooo fun 😂), demonstrate Matthew he can speak fluently another language... Just for Matthew be oblivious to this and enjoy a little escapade to Spain with his girlfriend and her family. 😂
Anyways; I hope you're alright and, again, I wish you all the best for this week.
Besos!!! 🥰 (Spanish equivalent for the "Love!" farewell expression; it means "kisses")
Hola! You’re back again! And I’m so glad!
I do have a week off once I finish work tomorrow (Saturday)!! Very Exciting! I have a scarf to knit, and lots of writing to do so that’s very exciting.
Oh Anthony on a Spanish beach in tiny little flamingo shorts? Ole! indeed! That is a curious note, I literally love learning things about other cultures and languages so if anyone wants to share a curious note about their culture, hit me up! I will in turn tell you about the curious culture of The Land Down under, and our propensity to butcher the English language!
I agree, Sister relationships are a very curious thing in media. I’m not a huge fan of very contentious relationships between sisters, I’m not saying they don’t exist in real life, they definitely do, I just think having them as constant rivals is exhausting. And Yes! I Love the relationship between Edwina and Kate very much because I see it as a mirror of my relationship with my own sister. My sister drives me more insane than any other person on this planet. We fight, we bicker, I get absolutely enraged when she steals the last property I need for a set in Monopoly, and yet, She is my favourite person. She can say whatever she wants about me, but were anyone else to? It’s fight on sight. I’ll be honest, that all I’m doing is basing their relationship in these fics  on my own with my sister. Nothing special!
Okay! Here we go! Anthony and Kate + Goose and Edwina +Spain
Kate Bridgerton was many, many things, but she liked to think an idiot, was not one of them. And so, when Anthony had said, in a tone she was sure he thought was casual. “I think we deserve a holiday, you’ve been working very hard to grow the little broad bean after all and your sister and her little gander should celebrate their engagement.” She had known exactly what he was up to. And she wasn’t really sure why she played along along with it. Perhaps something in her thrived on the chaos she knew Anthony would would create, perhaps part of her just really wanted a decent paella. Surely it didn’t matter, the result was the same: Kate fixed an innocent expression on her face and said  “Where did you have in mind?”
And so, surprise, surprise, here she was: back on a beach in Spain. She had to admit, eyeing Anthony appreciatively as he paddled demonstratively in the shallow water, his plan had its merits. though thus far his attempts had been... unsuccessful at best. Matthew Bagwell seemed absolutely thrilled to be in Spain, on holiday with his fiancée, giving them helpful facts he knew about the architecture as they walked through the city, a wide smile on his face, Anthony practically purple when he corrected a fact Anthony himself had said.   “Do you speak Spanish, Goose?” Anthony had said dryly in the hotel lobby shortly after they’d arrived. And Kate had rolled her eyes at Anthony, though Matthew was not paying attention. He had his arms wrapped tightly around Edwina’s waist, whispering something in her ear that made her nose crinkle in delight, the sapphire of her engagement ring glinting in the sunlight. And the beautiful picture they made gave Kate’s heart a little stutter. Anthony tutted. “Matt!” He said sharply, getting the man’s attention, Matthew’s glasses slipping down his nose as his head shot upwards in surprise.  “Do you speak Spanish?” Edwina was rolling her eyes now. And Matthew, for his part was completely unbothered  “oh, no. Sorry Mate, might have to lean on your pretty heavily this week.” He said, and Kate caught the smug smile on Anthony’s face and bit back a groan Damnit Matthew.  “I’m pretty fluent in French, German and Mandarin though!” Matthew said smiling happily, turning back towards Edwina, completely oblivious to the scowl Anthony tossing his way. “Of course you fucking are.” He muttered, fixing Kate with an irritated glare as a laugh escaped her!
The water surely must be a little cool in early October but Anthony showed no signs of it, Beckoning Kate into the water. She groaned and made her way towards him, laughing happily as he tugged her in, his hand resting on her stomach, still no sign of her pregnancy. “Is he watching?” Anthony whispered in her ear as he wrapped his arms around her waist, spinning her through the water So she had a brief image of her sister smiling brightly at her fiancée who appeared to be... bless him building a sandcastle.
“No. He’s not.” Kate said batting her husband’s hands away irritatedly as he scowled.  “Are you really trying to look more in love than they are?” Kate scoffed, disbelief at her husband’s idiocy rising with in her. Anthony looked indignant. “No! A man can’t take an interest in his wife now? Very poor show Mrs. Bridgerton.” He said, but his eyes, darted towards the shore at the last second.  “Oh I cannot believe you! You’re absolutely manic!” She replied as Anthony attempted to pull her back towards him, Kate putting up very little fight as she tumbled against. him, his voice hot in her ear. “Insufferable I hear.” Kate scoffed. “Ugh! If Anyone’s insufferable it’s him!”
Kate turned to follow Anthony’s gaze to find Matthew waving at them, grinning broadly, completely unbothered. And Kate couldn’t keep from laughing as Anthony went on another muttered tirade.
Besos!

So I saw the big fight go down between @wilwheaton and @normal-horoscopes. Being an older millennial who is fluent in Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z, but also was around in the Before Times. I've watched the evolution of the current-day Internet mores versus the mores of five years ago, ten years ago, 20 years ago. As a socio-cultural and linguistics student, I really do think this is a fucked up case of cultural differences. The Internet isn't the same place it was five years ago, and some people haven't caught up to the new rules yet. Do I think both parties went on the fucking attack? Absolutely. Do I feel like choosing a side? No, because I'm looking at this from a different perspective entirely.
I've followed normal-horoscopes for a good while, and I'm a Patreon supporter because I love their work and think their occult research is top tier. I am on their book club Discord, I read their research, and I am impressed with their knowledge and love of learning. I'm proud of how far they've come and how far they have to go. They're amazing.
I've followed Wil Wheaton for even longer and I've watched his evolution from an insecure person trying to prove something, to a nerd celebrity, to a man willing to show his vulnerabilities if he thinks it'll help one person. I'm proud of how far he's come, and how far he has to go. He's amazing.
I don't think going after a liberal semi-minor celebrity who has been very open about his trauma regarding getting harassed online is really cool (btw I did message him about misgendering normal-horoscopes, and I hope he acknowledges that or I will be deeply disappointed). He dealt with that shit through a huge portion of his life and some of it still lingers today, so I think we should maybe not. Save that shit for the Nazis, man.
But on the other hand, current acceptable behavior when posting not-original-content is to either track down the OG content and reblog that instead, or to at least link to the place that originated it so that people will be inclined to go there. This is because many people, normal-horoscopes included, make their living off of their original content. If I got money from the times my viral posts have been stolen I wouldn't be panicking over a $300 payment I need. You know?
The thing is, this is legitimately a generational and cultural divide (online culture, that is - both of the parties involved live in the same area of the same state so their regional culture is not relevant). I've seen it on all of the social media platforms. About half of the millennial generation and all of the zoomers tend to post hyperlink credits, or reblog/share from the original poster. I see it on FB, Twitter reddit, tumblr, tiktok, everything. Older millennials and Gen X tend towards believing that keeping the username in the image is giving credit and they're not technically wrong.
The thing is, posting a hyperlink makes it easy for people to click through and benefit the original poster materially, which is important in this capitalist hellscape. People are less likely to go searching for the OP unless the content specifically speaks to them; but if there's a link there they may go explore. I've found countless authors, artists, and other content creators that way.
So TLDR: This is a lot of people being dicks because they're literally misinterpreting cultural mores. IRL this is the kind of shit people have diplomatic immunity for. We all need to fuckin stop.

For the prompt, may be it's because asians uphold/are familiar with/are knowledgeable/are accepting, more or less, of the values/attitudes/actions of Do (previously or presently) as another asian? As an asian myself, I think of it as a, I don't have better words, "culture shock" (for some western fans I have seen on twt) because Do is very Korean-- like how I, as an asian, would react to a person who acts very western aka unfamiliar. While, of course, individuals, regardless of where they are, can be accepting of a person who is "different to what I know" or the otherwise, as part of their intergral character, their perception of people can still be shaped by their society.
Additionally, because Do is more fluent in Korean among all the languages he might know, his humor, wit and come backs aren't well translated to non-Korean speakers. Even if it is, fans won't usually give the time to wait for it, look for an interpretation or bother with it because kpop content is still a form of entertainment for some. Entertainment in terms of "something to laugh at."
Also, as we all know, in general, some fans, some solo stans most especially have fragile egos (I'm sorry for the term lsjsls) and the continuous praises showered upon our ever, hard working bunny, on top of the amount of projects he does compared to others, are taken as Do stealing opportunities and leaving nothing to their biases. Most outspoken once are usually the "shallow" fans.
Tell you what, I like how Korean Doyoung is. He is a very Korean person without Korean-specific flaws (xenophobia, hate for Japanese/Chinese, envy, inability to think for oneself because of the type of drilling in education, etc). He provides me an insight on Korean culture/habits/language, but doesn't irritate, heh.
This "difference in perception" is Doyoung flaunting his smarts for one. In Korea everyone knows the test scores of each other, who is the number one student (so is in Japan, Thailand, and probably other Asian countries?), the info is put in the halls afterall. To be the top student is to be the chosen, the cool and desireable one. Doyoung took a history test to show "a new better side of me", and his Korean fans decided to take this test after him.
Ariana Grande's "7 rings" is in the minor key. It's a sad song, about a bird trapped in a cage, all the money she has doesn't bring happiness, Ariana just fronts and pretends she is. Looking at the comments, it flies over most fans' heads. They see riches.
Hm, I get what you mean by Doyoung "the brown nose stealing opportunities". Asians believe in hard work, Koreans pride themselves for never sleeping and waking up at 5 a.m., surviving or energy drinks (not healthy, not healthy at all this rat race). While Western fans think all members should get equal everything from the company. Equality for all. And if one isn't getting something, someone else is stealing it (immigrants - jobs, the boot licker - promotion, city politicians - the right to park anywhere without paying).
I want readers to watch a short segment from this vlogger on the parasocial relationship. Starts at 26:04

Just wanted to let you know that... I'm trying to learn the little sign language, at least a little bit with your comic. It's always been a language I wanted to learn, both ASL and my native language, in fact. Say, why snd how did you learn this language ? If it's okay for you to respond, of course, I don't want to urge you or step in a line I didn't know was there
Oh, that’s awesome-!! I’m so honored you liked it ;v;
To answer your question - I’m not fluent in ASL, not at all! But I’ve picked up bits and pieces over the years for a lot of reasons. Some of it was media I enjoyed, more came from having a few friends that were struggling with selective mutism and wanting to be there for them even with a few signs, and more yet was just… personal interest!
I’ve learned everything I know of ASL online, but I of course rec joining a class or even just community group if you have access!
There are several wonderful sign dictionaries out there - with videos, picture sequences, and GIFs of the signs in action - and that’s a great place to start just picking up a few that are most important. Also… videos on Youtube, allllll the way. The great thing about ASL too is that even if your sign vocabulary is still small, if you learn your sign alphabet, then you can make tough spots work by spelling out words - and asking for the official sign by spelling the word out!
The thing to remember about ASL too is that… it isn’t just a ‘modifier’ to English.
There’s a lot of ease and benefits to the obvious crossover, but… there’s culture, there’s tics, heck, there’s different grammar rules! A lot of ‘extra fluff’ is left out of ASL because it’s absurd to leave it in, it’s not needed, and it’s just not part of the language for good reason, and more importantly, without detriment.
For example- in Part Two of the comic, I show Brick signing along to the dialogue as in-fic, “seems like I…. made an impression.” Now, in spoken English, we can envision the tone used, and so on, really easily, right? And the signs translated to that sentence. However… the actual signs used strictly translate to:
seem
I
impression.
A big reason why I chose those, in that order, is because part of Brick’s story is that he isn’t yet fluent in ASL - he’s still learning, and is actively searching for words & their corresponding signs! I get the feeling he’s ‘thinking’ in spoken English, and is translating in sign as best he can. (but idk, @popatochisssp is obviously the best one to ask on that front, I’m just interpreting and checked a few details with her as I was working on it X) )
I considered adding the sign for “big” in there before impression, but for space & dialogue translation reasons I ended up leaving it out - even though, tonally, that might well be what someone signing would choose to get across the same impression - or just emphasize ‘big’ using their body language!
That’s one of the things I love most about ASL- that it is just as expressive as a vocal language, despite what it seems like a lot of people think. Maybe it’s bc I’m an artist & animator, but the use of the body beyond just the ‘hand motions’ is just as important… and relays a lot about personality, just like someone’s voice and basic, more simplified body language might.
(On top of this, consider ASL’s different grammatical structure - you can read more here, it’s really cool - but basically, commonly you’ll see Subject-Verb-Object or Subject-Verb order; and if time is involved, then you might see something like “WEEK-PAST I WASH MY CAR” or, depending on the user’s vernacular, they’ll favor the subject-first style, and sign “MY CAR WEEK-PAST I WASH”. Point is, there’s variation just as in spoken language, and reasons behind those choices!)
.. okay I’ve rambled too long XD
Basically, I myself started learning bc I was interested for several reasons, both personal and bc I’m a nerd who happened across ASL content online (a couple bloggers, a few stories). I recommend just keeping it in your personal orbit as much as possible if you’re interested in learning! Read comics with sign, check out shows/movies with characters who sign, and definitely check out bloggers/youtubers who sign (and I always rec people who are HoH/deaf and/or mute most of all!)
TL;DR, if you get nothing else outta this post but are curious about Sign Language here’s some video-based Signing Content to get you interested/follow!
Things Not to Say to a Deaf Person (feat lots of BSL - British Sign Language - actually! But it applies across the board and is cool to see signing folk bust some bs)
I Can’t Hear Myself Speak! [CC] by Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, who is a lovely disability advocate & queer lady who is also Deaf/HoH! She talks about how she can’t hear herself speak in this video, and the varied ways deafness/being HoH can be manifested, and a bunch of other related things. (Link includes the playlist she has for her videos on Deafness - she signs in BSL, so don’t worry if you know only bits of ASL and don’t cotton on to her signing!)
ASL time - Top 10 Basic ASL Phrases for Beginners by Nyle DiMarco! You might’ve seen him around - he’s that super nice deaf model who went viral in the past few years on a few videos! He’s got a short series about basic ASL (and him being cheeky) that’s actually a big fave of mine bc he phrases it like a conversation, not just disjointed phrases.
How I Learned Sign Language From My Deaf Boyfriend by Sign Duo! Honestly, their whole channel is great. Tons of vlogs, they both sign the whole time of course - and they’re just really relatable, they feel like conversations - plus they’re both just really likeable. I strongly recommend any content that actually features two+ people fluently signing, but these two are great and informative. Also, I recommend their video My Deaf Boyfriend: Why He Doesn’t Use His Voiceif you want to know more about that cultural choice/inclination. Remember to turn on closed captioning if you aren’t fluent in ASL! :)
How Do Deaf People Experience Music? an interview featuring Shaheem Sanchez, a stellar deaf dancer and actor. Like I said earlier, I really really recommend learning about Deaf/Signing culture alongside the signs themselves. The context is incredible, and honestly, broadening your understanding of any marginalized group by learning their stories as told by them is a good thing in my opinion.
Dos and Don'ts of Interacting with the Deaf Community [CC]by The Essential Sign. Again, turn on CC if you’re not fluent in sign - her videos are great! This one’s a great cultural one for those new to signing/who want to learn about deaf culture. She busts some common misunderstandings and shows some course corrected alternatives that are actually positive, and encourages you how to move forward without stumbling over insensitive landmines! Similarly I super recommend her video What is Concentration Fatigue? (with RIKKI POYNTER) [CC]which talks about something you don’t see mentioned as often, I think - precisely what’s on the tin.
… aaand I’ll leave it there for now, I think those are good starting points and a variety of styles! Deaf/ASL-fluent vloggers are a great resource and way to, even if you’re isolated/don’t have a practice community, get regular exposure to sign as well as actual first-hand (heh) accounts from people who sign in their everyday life!

A Day To Remember
by: Michelle Villareal
Manila, also known as the Pearl of the Orient, is located in Southern Luzon, the largest with more than 7,000 islands that make up the nation known as the Philippines. Manila serves not only as the country's capitol, but also as its financial, publishing, and business center. The citizens of the city speak Tagalog, but most are also fluent in English which is the language used in public schools. Manila is also known in its scenic landmarks and famous structure like the Intramuros, Fort Santiago and St. Augustine Church still are good examples of Spanish colonial architecture. It still has many to offer, and showcase the country's diverse tourist attractions and its culture.
This happened 4 years ago when I was in 8th Grade. Mom availed a promo where the tickets are cheaper than its original price, so she immediately grabbed the opportunity for our 3 days vacay in Manila. I know it’s not too long because we still have classes and mom still on duty but at least we experienced something that we want to long ago and it finally came. We went at the General Santos International Airport six hours before the flight, that’s how early mom woke us up to prepare everything but it didn’t bother me though because I can’t contain my excitement. Mom used to be late in every gathering she attended but this time, she woke up early than the rooster whose about to crow. She complained at everything asking why we prepare so slow like mom calm your tits, we still have plenty of hours. Anyways, it was my first time at the airport and nothing can compare the excitement I felt when I saw an actual airplane outside like my mind was about to explode, still can’t believe that I’ll be riding one of those. Mom prepared everything, both the tickets and some stuff. We waited at the departure waiting area for our plane. Later on, the bad news came that lose all my vibe. Our flight got cancelled due to I don’t know maybe that’s how airport works? It’s 11 am in the morning and we have to stay there until 6 pm, what will I supposed to do the whole duration then? So, fast forward, the time has finally begun. I took a picture a lot while heading on our designated airplane, I was a young childish kid back then where I wanted to make others envy on me posting photos on media captioned “manila here I come” with bunch of emoticons, how embarrassing it was. I seated beside the window and also my mom, while my brother Noli was at the back of our seat, don’t mind him, it’s okay with him. When we arrived, it was dark outside, I think it’s about 8 pm. I lose all my excitement because I was so tired that my body badly needs sleep. Tall buildings, restaurants, landmarks, I don’t care about them all, I can’t even open my eyes wide when I saw a handsome man. We arrived in my uncle’s place in Cavite at 1 am in the morning due to traffic, I can’t imagine myself living here. I immediately dived in bed and fell asleep really quick without bothering to change clothes. Day 1, our first stop was Intramuros where we visited my uncle Joseph in San Agustin Church, he’s a priest in there as you all see but now, he’s in heaven serving God, not worrying about anything, and I’m happy for it. My uncle dodo and uncle Joseph was our tour guide, uncle Joseph hired a Kalesa to roam us around in Intramuros. We took a lot of pictures in every destination. The Kalesa driver shared a history to some houses and landmarks that colonized by the Spaniards which is a mind blown information. We had our lunch in a fancy restaurant but I only ate fried chicken because I can’t even pronounce a name on the menu. Uncle Joseph gave us budget for the Star City experienced, mom hesitate but you know uncle, he’s willing to give everything he has for the sake of our happiness. While waiting for the taxi, I can’t stop hugging my uncle thinking that was my last hug with him. Those last words he said that I should study really hard in class, I promise that I will make him proud of my achievements, I just missed him so much. When we took a taxi, I waved good bye at him for the last time slowly as he disappeared out of my sight. We went to Star City, mom bought a ticket and when we get in there, I’m out of words. We wanted to try all the rides since mom bought a ticket said that we can avail all but it’s crowded and my feet hurts so bad. We decided to have some dinner at MOA since it’s walking distance and went home because it’s late and it’s hard to commute due to traffic.
Day 2, we went to Makati where my cousins and uncle lived, we bring some of our clothes because they insisted to sleep there before we go back here in Koronadal. I was so tired during the trip because we took maybe three or four public vehicles plus the waiting time just to get in their place. For the first time, I met my cousins, Cherie and Christine, I don’t know how to interact with them because my skills in socializing and my self-esteem suddenly falls back to zero, they look so pretty while I look shit. We arrived there maybe 5 pm, we had our little dinner and a small talk but I didn’t bother to talk because I don’t know, I’m too shy, or I just don’t know how to speak Tagalog.
Day 3, we woke up early in the morning to pack our things up, we ate breakfast and we took a ride at my uncle's work place. We don't have much time to roam around in Makati with my cousins because our flight will be at 3 am in the morning so we have to be at the airport hours before the flight. We say good bye to each other awkwardly because we barely talk like she asked questions, I answered, and that's it, end of conversation. When we arrived at my uncle's work place, we looked for a food to eat since its lunch time. I don't blame the city for being the busiest, if you have to come early at your work, you have to wake up early considering the time you travel and the traffic. Mom decided to eat somewhere else whatever we passed by. We took a ride at the train station which was super cool. We took our lunch near at the station, it’s just a small restaurant, not that fancy but cheap. We had soup, a dessert and some drinks. After we ate, I decided to roam at the station since mom and uncle was still talking. So, I was roaming and guess what my just saw, a Korean Pop store. I was lowkey freaking out and I can't handle my excitement when i saw bunch of albums, photocards, and some Korean Pop merchandise. I ran to my mom and asked for money, she hesitated at first but I just can’t, I have to buy at least one, she gave me I think one hundred. I bought a photocard of my favorite girl group and I can’t stop smiling all the time as we go. We arrived at the Airport, still have plenty of time since our flight will be 3 am. We took a rest where the passengers wait, I sleep a little because I was so tired after the long duration walking. Mom woke me up when we have to be in the departure area, I bought a snack first and we go in our flight.
We arrived at the Gensan International Airport early in the morning, I don’t know what time is it because I didn’t bother to check my watch. We headed home, took a sleep and I remember I told myself to wake up before lunch time because I had to attend class in the afternoon but ended up late so I had no choice but to continue sleeping. This was my first-time experiencing Manila and I was beyond happy and didn’t regret being absent in class for three days in a row. I hope it will not be our last.

(anon who asked about signing/talking) That's cool! I've been taking ASL for about two years and even though I'm far from fluent, it's been super interesting to learn, like I didn't know anything about deafness or deaf culture or anything like that. My teacher isn't deaf but her parents, husband, and in-laws are, so of all people I've known in person she definitely knows the most. (I'm always worried about offending someone because I ask so many questions though D:
That's awesome! I'm glad you have an interest in it! Signing can be really fun, so I hope its fun for you!I don’t know as much as I would like on the Deaf culture, but I am still learning and I'm excited about my class because they have resources for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community there so I'm so happy about it!Everything I learned was from googling for eight years so I'm really excited to actually go to class for it now! The class I go to has a deaf teacher so I'm also really excited to go and actually meet other deaf people sfsdajf;klsdj.Go ahead and ask any questions you have even if its a hundred thousand! just send 5 at a time so I have a chance to answer and I don't [forget to answer]/[miss] any questions! I might not be able to provide the BEST or ALL answers, but I can provide MY answers, and what I learned over my 8 years of googling! (I've done a lot of research lol.)
(sorry I'm taking a long time to respond I'm attempting another fic and I'm having difficulty writing some of the “puns.”)

Tofu Guys Don't Eat Meat by Vicki Woods for Vogue, May 1990 (Part I)
River Phoenix is only nineteen. That's the most important thing about him. He's been in the movies so long you'd think he'd be older by now; really knocking on, like... oh, I don't know. Twenty-two or something. But nope. Nineteen. Wholesome as a tofu omelet. And as good-looking as all get-out.
Tumblr media
When River isn't making movies, he's making music. He lives with his family in Gainesville, Florida. Ever been to Gainesville? Neither had I. North central Florida isn't exactly a tourist hub, being humid, flat, spotted with alligators, and at least a hundred miles from the ocean in any direction. But it's warm, and Arlyn Phoenix likes the heat. And Gainesville (population ninety thousand and rising) has thirty-five thousand college students living there. The University of Florida, one student told me, is about the cheapest public university in the entire United States, which is why it's busting at the seams with crop-headed, athletic-looking boys in white T-shirts and bermudas who play football by floodlight until the early hours of the morning. Arlyn Phoenix liked the idea of a university town when it came to settle finally, because she wanted plenty of cultural facilities for her brood of children: arts, music, drama.
River Phoenix isn't crop-headed of course. And he doesn't wear bermudas. He arrived at my hotel in his mother's car wearing a jade green Gap sweat-shirt, navy blue long johns, and tennis shoes. He's grown since we last saw him (in Running on Empty - what a tearjerker). He's now five eleven ("Barefoot!''), slim as a willow and hung with wisps of beard like Florida's Spanish moss. He wouldn't shave them off, even for Bruce Weber's pictures. He didn't have to fatten up for his new role in Lawrence Kasdan's I Love You to Death. He plays a pizza chef who has a fairly off-center weltanschauung and tries to help his boss's wife (Tracey Ullman) attempt to murder her husband (Kevin Kline) numerous times .He's a lean pizza chef, playing his age. (He put on fifteen extra pounds for Stand by Me because he was fourteen playing twelve and fatter looks younger.) After I Love You to Death comes Dogfight, directed by Nancy Savoca. I'm really looking forward to it. River plays a marine who has a bet with the other guys that he'll pick up a worse dog - an unhandsome woman - than any of them. This should be a real coming-of-age movie and the first that he'll have to carry on his own. Director Savoca says, "River has an emotional weight that other young actors just don't have."
We went for coffee in Gainesville. The teenage waitress was a little excited, but she kept her cool. "Do you have Venezuelan coffee?" No. "Do you have carrot juice?" No. "Well, I'll just have a double espresso then,'' he said, and promptly ticked away for hours about how hyper he felt from the caffeine. I told him he was a pinup even in the British teen mags and then immediately wished I hadn't. So did he. He laid his beautiful head on the table and groaned with real embarrassment. "A pinup. Oh, God. I wish you hadn't said that. A pinup!" He told me about the publicity stills that were taken of him "when I was younger." You do everything they tell you, he said "they teach you how to pose, you know, they say, 'you have to do it like this!' And you tilt your head, and they show you how to push your lips out and suck in your cheek... oh, oh [groans] and then all the outtakes that you never want to see again in your life go through the teen magazines forever. Oh. oh [more groans]."
It was very funny, but he meant it. Gentlemanly modesty is River's strong suit.
River's press so far has been a combination o large paragraphs about the state of the planet (which can read kind of irritating, from a fifteen-, sixteen-, seventeen-year-old) and a "Wow, freaky!" examination of his unconventional family. Let's take the family first. Arlyn and John Phoenix (him I didn't meet - he was in Mexico with Leaf Joaquin) had a pretty wacky life until they go to Gainesville (and compared with Married... with Children mainstream America it's still a tad wacky). They were sixties dropouts, they were on the road, they thought LSD was a truth serum, they found God, joined a sect, went to South America as missionaries (River was fluent in both Spanish and English from age three), had their babies by natural childbirth, believed in a Whole Earth... you know.Arlyn and John seem to have followed the beat of the sixties drum harder than most, and instead of turning into eighties yuppies, they've hung on in there. They are now perfectly regular folks, with twenty acres of property, a few cars, a few bank accounts, a cook, a gardener, a business manager, and five handsome kids, most of whom are actors, but - they do vegetables instead of drugs now, they don't eat animal products, don't waste paper, wear leather, or overconsume any of the planet's resources. They have SAVE THE RAINFORST stickers on their cars, and their two big dogs, a Doberman-German shepherd mix and a full German shepherd, are both vegans.
