Tigerpie is so funny to me like
She comes through a portal and then comes across a patrol and speaks in perfect cat. And Tigerstar is just like "I love this woman, what is she" and there's just this huge ass height difference because she's a literal horse and he's a literal cat.
Pinkie Pie came from the portal because she was exiled for what she did to rainbowdash. Everypony was like "WHAT THE FUCK PINKIE PIE IS THIS WHY THE TOWNS NUMBERS HAVE BEEN DECREASING??" so they exiled her by sending her through a mystery portal.
Now she lives in Shadowclan with Tigerstar. She trained and got her warrior name, Pinkhop.
When Tigerstar dies, she trains with him in the dark forest. Mostly just to see her husband. They mess around a lot and don't get much done. But Pinkhop is a very respected name in the dark forest. No one, not even Mapleshade, dares to even question why a literal horse is in the dark forest and why Tigerstar seems to like her so much.
She also sings. A lot. Both Shadowclan and the Dark Forest have open mic nights now because Pinkhop taught them all to sing.
And yes, before you ask.
Yes, pinkie pie eats prey. She eats prey but also eats other stuff like a normal horse. She mostly eats the prey because it's a standard in the clans and she doesn't want to be rude when cats offer it to her. She ate rainbowdash in cupcake form, why would this be any different?
Pinkie met Tigerstar when he was Tigerclaw in Thunderclan, right after he killed Redtail. She helped him stage the dog attack and helped him with the Brokenstar and Shadowclan raids.
And instead of Firestar killing Scourge it's Pinkie Pie because she wants revenge for him killing Tigerstar.
Pinkie becomes like. a cryptid to the twolegs like people are like "I COULD HAVE SWORN I SAW A PINK HORSE GUYS PLEASE TRUST ME IT WAS HOPPING AROUND PLEASE"
idk I just think it's funny
Feel free to ask about this AU and ship I think it's really funny and had a lot of potential to be really funny because they would have a lot of chemistry IMO.
Have fun!

will the rookie make it past s6?
the rookie is imploding at the height of its popularity bc the writers can't agree on three important things:
the number of storylines/plots to feature per episode,
the direction of each couple's arc,
and the vision for the season as a whole.
it's giving bad group project. instead of working collaboratively, it seems like the writers opted to break up the 22 episodes into a million different parts—without staying consistent about which writers get which parts.
as a result, we frequently end up with frankensteinian eps like 5x16, where the writers mean well by calling back fan-favorite scenes in rapid fire succession—but their execution falls short of expectations. i'm not asking for every episode to hit, but i am asking for every episode NOT to fail in the same manner.
striking a balance between appeasing loyal fans and appealing to the general public is tough, i understand. but as this season progresses, it becomes obvious that the show is unfavorable with both demos as they try to go bigger, but not necessarily better, every week.
popularity is very fickle. by this time next year, there could be other shows in the market that have the power to eclipse the rookie's status as ABC's #1 drama. if s6 has to be shortened bc of the looming writers' strike, this dissonance between the writers' intention and their execution could put them back in the cancellation conversation.
i don't want to lose the rookie before it meets its full potential. in our modern tv landscape, shows with less than 30 eps are getting cancelled left and right bc not enough ppl give them attention. so it makes no sense for (most likely) one of the last 100+ ep shows to stubbornly stick with a formula that doesn't work when they're so well patronized.
most of this season is already set in stone, but i hope the feedback from 5x16 made it clear. leaning more chenford-heavy when they need a ratings boost doesn't fix their structural issues. however, intentionality might.
for example, being intentional with...
...their plot/storyline curation could give plot points room to breathe.
...the angst could build deeper trust and intimacy between characters that legitimizes the couple's chemistry/connection.
...the introduction of supporting characters can add to the core's dynamic, not pull focus away from it.
real life is hard, so of course i want to enjoy what i watch. that's why the noise (irl factors/constraints) needs to be less distracting. bc more often than not these days, the rookie stays breaking the suspension of disbelief. realistically, how many times can i watch my team miss a wide open net before i stop watching altogether?

what are your top 10 ships? in order? 👀
Ten? TEN?!
Christ. Okay. There's gonna be some rarepairs and some crackships on here and I'm not going to apologize.
Cheryl Blossom/Veronica Lodge (Riverdale) - Sorry not sorry putting this number one. I've been on this train for over half a decade. I feel like I have a red string board about how the narrative implicitly connects them but the writers are cowards. Justice for Camila Mendes, who spent seven seasons trying to kiss women and the writers kept putting her back in straight relationships.
Dinah Lance/Zatanna Zatara (DC Comics) - This is explicitly the comics canon, because I don't think they've really interacted in any other forms. Admittedly this one has less to do with the ship and more the fact that Zatanna is my pathetic bisexual wet cat and no one at DC seems interested in examining her trauma through anything besides her relationships with men.
Sam Carpenter/Kirby Reed (Scream) - God. The wasted potential here. The Scream franchise has never written a protagonist that wouldn't be better as a lesbian. The shared trauma. The height difference. Can they both get some goddamn rest.
Robin Buckley/Nancy Wheeler (Stranger Things) - This one has dropped to four because of my umbrage with the fandom in general, which I know I don't need to explain to you. But besides Natalia and Maya having so much chemistry, Robin being the only one who consistently listens to Nancy and vice versa is so important to me.
Yelena Belova/Kate Bishop (Marvel Cinematic Universe) - Once again, specifically in the MCU. Again, Hailee and Florence have such amazing chemistry, and their relationship is the natural successor to Clint and Nat. I can't wait to see how the MCU wastes their potential!
Hazel/PJ (Bottoms) - RIP to everyone who loves Josie and Isabel, but you can't give me a local dirtbag and a cringefail butch and not expect me to smoosh their faces together like Barbie dolls.
Kate Bishop/America Chavez (Marvel Comics) - The MCU already decided they didn't want this one by aging America down and Kate up, but this was the ship that originally got me onto Tumblr. They're still kicking ass and taking names forever in my heart.
Betty Cooper/Donna Sweett (Riverdale) - I just think she (bitchy prep school brunette with big eyes) is pretty neat, ok?
Sansa Stark/Margaery Tyrell (A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones) - They hate to see one girlboss winning, much less two. In a different world, they are Cheronica in a different font. Stop booing me, I'm right.
Laura Kinney/Marc Spector (Marvel Comics) - Are they an M/F ship? Sure are! Have they ever interacted in canon? I don't think so! But this one I can explain - when I did Marvel PBP, my Moon Knight ended up romancing X-23 and now I desperately need them to interact. Their dates mostly involved patching each other up and talking about their trauma.

I just watched the Reacher movies and man I dont care what ppl say, Tom is awesome in them and does quiet brooding so well. I totally get the ppl who read the books and had someone else in mind, but I really have no idea why the second movie gets so much shit as a movie, I kinda preferred it. I especially love the scene on the plane when the girl is talking about her father and his face when he's listening to it.
Hey anon,
Glad to hear you enjoyed them. I do think both films are underrated, and if Tom Cruise had been playing a similar character with any other name, Reacher (2012) would get a lot more props for being a solid grown-up film of the thriller/action genre. It’s quietly stylish and beautiful, with a focus on making the action clear to the audience, which means no shaky cam to hide poorly laid-out action sequences or excessive editing to add tension where none exists or to get your main character over a fence. From the opening sequence, through music and action, it lays out the tone and style of the film so succinctly while immediately immersing you in the story.
I understand why fans of the books were unhappy with Tom Cruise being cast, despite the blessing of the author, Lee Child. Every reader will have an image of a character in their heads, and it can be hard to see certain actors in certain roles. Unsurprisingly, the biggest complaint against Tom Cruise being cast was to do with his height, as he very much does not fit the description of "extremely tall, extremely broad, long-armed, and long-legged" with "hands the size of dinner plates." Now I've never read the books, and while I understand why fans were unhappy, I think Christopher McQuarrie utilizes Tom really well in the first movie and uses his physique as an advantage.
For the type of thriller that the first film is, it leans more toward noir than straight up crime action; a character over 6' would have storytelling pitfalls. What works in a book can translate to the screen very differently. That doesn’t mean that a Reacher who is more faithful to the books in terms of height and build couldn’t work. The new Amazon Prime series has been very popular, but any man who is as big and as imposing as Reacher is described is going to stand out, and you would have to actively address the fact that he would be someone who is hard to take down in a fight. Instead, with the casting of Tom Cruise, the film shows how people underestimate him, such as the guys in the bar who think they can take him out with little hassle.
Then there’s the fact that the character of Reacher is a drifter, someone who slips in and out of town, leaving no trace. Well, if a guy is 6 feet whatever and built, people are going to remember him, and it will make it a little harder for him to slip away unnoticed. But not a Reacher who is built like Tom, and Christopher McQuarrie shows this brilliantly with the escape on the bus at the end of the car chase. It actively plays into the character being a drifter; he just disappears into a crowd.
The second film, Never Go Back, is a more typical thriller/action film with a family road trip added in that I like because Reacher is being forced into a situation he usually avoids, having to work with others. Never Go Back is well balanced, with Turner and Reacher both being highly capable and highly motivated individuals. When Turner expresses to Reacher that she wants to get these guys more than him, we see that he took this on board during the interrogation scene because he leaves it to Turner. I wish his falling into an assistive role had continued with Turner fully solving the mystery that they're smuggling drugs, I feel she deserved to solve it. But at the end of the day it is a Jack Reacher movie.
I also like how both films handle the potential romantic dynamic. With Helen there is a hint that if he were to stay, he could very much have a life with her, but the film knows not to force it, and I like that there’s no kiss. Despite the chemistry between them, it really hasn’t been earned, and any kiss would have felt forced and more like the film doing it because of the type of movie it is rather than it coming from the characters. With Turner, we see how similar they are. Yes, at the start there was some mild flirting and intrigue about each other over the phone, but their connection is one where they’re better as friends, and that's okay. In the end, it's the potential of the father-daughter relationship with Sam that leaves a bigger impact on Reacher than the romantic one, which we also saw a little of in the first film with Sandy. His interactions with her, especially in the office scene, were more paternal, and he never really tried romantic charm to get information out of her.
Ultimately, I think both films have more merit than people give them credit for. Neither is perfect, and I don’t know if either one would be in my top ten Tom Cruise movies, but if you can look past the casting issue of Tom as Reacher because of the height thing, each of them is a rewarding watch.

Profile : Sparky Aetos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ picrew by savannyan - template by @unfinished-projects-galore - art by @twstinginthewind ]
Here's Sparky's profile, at last!
Sparky is one of the few Ignihyde students who enjoys athletics, but he’s also into scientific pursuits and gaming like most of his dormmates. He has a rather high opinion of himself. He’s arrogant, competitive, and sometimes a troll. He’s also a flirt, and he casts a wide net when it comes to his preferences. After all, he figures anybody would be glad to have him come down from his high mountain and grace them with his presence …
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ an accurate picrew of Sparky (he has to have his long curls!!!), and a potential overblot form, courtesy of this picrew ]
Dorm: Ignihyde Grade/Class: Sophomore/Class B Birthday: March 29 (Aries) Age: 17 Height: 175 cm/5’9” Dominant Hand: Right Homeland: Sage’s Island Club: Science Club Best Subject: Alchemy Worst Subject: Musicology Hobbies: Electronics, gaming, weather spotting Pet Peeves: Superstition, weak coffee Favorite Food: Gyros Least Favorite Food: Junk food - he wants something substantial Talents: Physical strength, weather prediction Physical Description: Thick, tightly coiled curly black hair that reaches his shoulders. Hazel eyes with thick eyebrows. Medium olive skin. Broad shoulders and chest, muscular arms. Has a tendency to look angry when he’s just neutral. Floyd’s Nickname: Electric Ray Rook’s Nickname: Monsieur Tempête (Mr. Storm) Twisted From: Zeus (the party-wrecking troll from Fantasia, not the one from Hercules)
Relationships (changing as needed)
OC Friends: Punch & Joker (@twstinginthewind), Tristan (@atwstedstory), Yume (@comingyourlugubriousness), Del (@bunnwich) Canon Friends: Idia, Ortho, Jamil, Floyd, Riddle (they were in the same class together as freshmen, and Riddle stepped up to lead the charge when he nearly overblotted, so he’s a special guy in Sparky’s book) Club Members: Sparky’s in the Science club with Trey and Rook. He thinks Rook’s hilarious, but he doesn’t think much of Trey. Respects/Admires: Riddle, Idia, that’s about it. Sparky thinks he’s pretty hot stuff and his respect isn’t that easy to earn. Avoids: Jade (gives him the creeps), Cater (the most annoying guy on campus as far as Sparky’s concerned), Leona (still mad at him from Book 2) Avoided By: Violetta (but she avoids almost everyone) Potential Ships: Sparky’s a bit of a flirt. He could be shipped with a lot of characters, but I don’t see him committing unless his partner is serious about it. He has a lot of chemistry with Joker, for sure, and I've toyed with the thought of Riddle or Jamil as well.
Character Opinions
Housewarden: Sparky feels protective of Idia. He secretly feels like it’s a victory when he convinces his housewarden to come out of his room to do something. He might mess with him occasionally, but if anyone else does, that’s a different matter entirely. Dormmates: Ortho is The Most Special Boy and Sparky will go run or play outside with him if Idia’s being difficult about it. Sparky was always the littlest brother, so having Ortho around makes him feel like he has one of his own. He hates that he can't ever fool Ortho, though. He likes telling harmless lies to little kids. Crowley: Does he ever do anything? Sparky wonders what his whole deal even is. Trein: His classes are dry as toast. Sparky needs a good coffee before a morning lecture or else he’s likely to fall asleep. Crewel: His classes are more interesting to Sparky, as they’re science-based and have visible results that can be manipulated. Vargas: Sparky needs to do something physical every day, so Vargas’s classes are a welcome break. Sam: Sparky just thinks Sam’s neat. He’s never been able to find out anything about the mysterious shop man, but he won’t give up trying. Also, Sam's shop has the really good coffee beans.
History
Sparky is the youngest of six brothers. His father is the owner of Titan Construction Company. When his parents were still married, his mother stayed at home, but now she works for a flower shop.
Sparky’s parents don’t have magical abilities, so they weren’t expecting their children to have any. (There are some magic users on his mother’s side, but none of them are very powerful.) When they married, they consulted an astrologer who told them that they would have a son who would use magic, and this son would tear their family apart. His father became paranoid, and all of their children were discouraged from taking any interest in magic.
Sparky first demonstrated magical abilities when he was seven years old. One day, he overheard his mother say the plants really needed a good rain. He knew he could make little clouds happen by just thinking about them really hard, but he wondered, could he make rain? He tried as hard as he could, and when his mother went outside, there was a small cloud hanging low over the garden, giving the flowers a nice rain. Sparky, very proud of himself, told his mother that he made it. Instead of being happy, she lectured him about never doing that in front of other people, and to never tell anyone about it, especially his father.
The next ten years or so were spent with Sparky having to hide his magical abilities, but he never lost interest in them. He’d read about them and practice them by himself, and by fifteen or so, he was able to summon small storms. That was when the invitation to Night Ravens College appeared in the Aetos family mailbox. Sparky was excited about it, although his mother went into panic mode. When his father came home that evening, before Sparky could say a word, his mother instantly jumped in and bragged about how Sparky had just been accepted to a “normal” school.
During his first few weeks at NRC, Sparky had to live a double life, pretending that he was attending a totally different school whenever he spoke to his father. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a ruse that could last forever. One of Mr. Aetos’s coworkers came to NRC to visit a son he had there, and word got back to the boss. He came to NRC to confront Sparky, and the argument got out of hand. Sparky completely lost his temper and nearly overblotted. Fortunately, it was in a public area, and a lot of students were around (messy kids always want to hear about the drama), so someone was able to get help from the staff and he was brought back down from his near-OB state.
It turns out that the astrologer who predicted Sparky bringing down the family wasn’t too far off, after all. After the incident at the school, his mother finally had enough, and she divorced his father. She now lives by herself in a small apartment and works for a flower shop. If Sparky visits any family on his holidays, he either visits her, or meets up with some of his older brothers somewhere. (It turns out at least two of his brothers had magic, but they hid that, too.) He and his father have absolutely nothing to do with each other, and for now, it seems like neither of them want to change that.
Actions During the Story
Prologue: He thought it was kinda funny how that weird fire-weasel and that magicless kid crashed the ceremony. He stood somewhere in the back of the crowd, snickering as the chaos unfolded.
Book 1: At first, Sparky didn’t notice anything odd going on, until he started to realize that a lot of Heartslabyul kids were wearing those collars. He doesn’t find out about Riddle’s overblot until later, and he feels genuinely bad that he wasn’t around to help the way Riddle helped him.
Book 2: Sparky is one of Ignihyde’s few athletes, so he ended up getting hurt during Ruggie’s sneaky campaign. He landed wrong on his arm and ended up spraining it. When he found out about the whole plan, he lost a huge amount of respect for Leona, and still holds a grudge against him. They used to be cool, but not so much anymore. Not that Leona cares.
Book 3: Sparky thought it was hilarious the way all those poor kids were running around with the anemone on their heads. He thought it served them all right for getting involved with Azul.
Book 4: Sparky went to a ski resort with some of his brothers for the winter holiday. When he came back and found out what happened in Scarabia, his reaction was mostly “huh, took him long enough”. He had an inkling about Jamil’s bitter feelings, so he was wondering when they would end up coming out. Too bad he missed it.
Book 5: Sparky was working tech at one of the other stages. He didn’t notice anything going wrong, as he hadn’t paid much attention to the SDC anyway.

Dear Author- Star Wars Rarepairs 2023
Hello wonderful author! Thank you so much for writing for me! This is my first year doing the Star Wars Rarepairs Exchange and I'm so excited to see what you have in store… I just know it will be lovely!! <3
DNWs: -Explicit sexual content. I'm okay with some things of that nature being tastefully implied, but I don't want descriptions of genitalia or sex acts. -Sequel trilogy content -Modern AU -Major Character Death between the characters involved in the ship (they can certainly threaten to kill each other though XD)
Likes: -enemies to lovers tropes, villain x heroine ships -forced or arranged marriage -Leia whump or angst-- I love seeing that girl vulnerable and in perilous predicaments, but still maintaining her strength of will and fighting back. -political intrigue (lends itself particularly well to tarkin x leia) and drama -power dynamics -captivity -banter
Ships:
Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin I am OBSESSED with these two… Ever since I noticed the way he grabs her face during their scene together in A New Hope, something just clicked within my brain. I love their absolute hatred for one another, how they are each so devoted to their opposing causes, and how his desire to subdue her and defeat the Rebellion could manifest into a twisted obsession and desire… They have a great tension and chemistry, and some fun silly space banter. Feel free to lean into the darkness and creepiness.
Prompts: -Something exploring their dynamic pre-ANH, where Leia is working as a rebel spy and Tarkin is suspicious and attempting to catch her in the act of treason. A game of cat and mouse ensues. -Leia and Tarkin strike some form of deal in the hopes of each benefitting their side of the war. How might this develop their relationship? I'd love to see Tarkin manipulating Leia, and Leia's efforts to sabotage him. -Bad end to ANH… Tarkin lives, or the Rebellion loses, and Leia must deal with her grief and desire for revenge… meanwhile the Grand Moff decides he wants something more for the Princess than execution -Missing scene from her captivity and interrogation on the Death Star. Who knows what could have occurred between them behind closed doors?
Leia Organa/Darth Vader These two have the chance for layers and layers of DRAMA and irony. I love the possibility for a sweet twisted "knight and princess" motif, as well as Vader being SUPER protective and possessive of Leia, with her bringing out his more "honorable", "good" side… and Leia reminding him both of Padme and of his former self. I love Leia being a complete sass machine to Vader and being one of the very few people who is able to stand up to the Dark Lord… Perhaps he finds a strange sort of respect for her through that. Also, they're really just a very aesthetically pleasing couple. The size/height difference and the black armor against the white gown. They're truly a villain and a heroine who are meant to be pitted against each other.
Prompts: -Through some strange set of circumstances, Vader and Leia must put up a temporary truce and are forced to work together begrudgingly -Vader protects Leia from a more dangerous foe, and she comes to gain a strange sense of respect for him. -Vader is haunted by his memories of Padme and uses Leia as a fill-in for her of sorts…
Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin/Darth Vader Something of a twisted love triangle where Vader and Tarkin are fighting for control of the Princess, and she is caught in the middle of them.
Leia Organa/Lord Tion Tion is a character who appears in the second episode of the Star Wars Radio Drama-- an arrogant, pompous Imperial officer and devotee of Tarkin who becomes Leia's suitor. Despite her disdain, she briefly permits his courtship to learn more about the Death Star… and everything goes disastrously wrong after he proposes marriage. As an enthusiast for Leia villain ships, I was in love with the MELODRAMA potential caused by this character.
Prompt: -What if the proposal/courtship was allowed to go further, and things turned out differently for them? It would be interesting to see Leia enter into a relationship with an Imperial in order to obtain rebel info…
Rogue One: Jyn Erso/Orson Krennic I enjoy the potential that the clash of these two strong personalities might bring, and the connection which they hold to one another's past. Where Leia and Tarkin will have a heavy amount of verbal sparring, I imagine Jyn and Krennic would have some physical sparring, too. It's also interesting to delve into his relation to her father.
Prompts: -AU where Galen's family returns with him during the construction of the Death Star, and Jyn grows up in high Imperial society, rebelling against the expectations placed upon her, and eventually catching Krennic's eye. -Alternatively, the Erso parents are made to offer Jyn as a bride to Krennic in order to ensure their safety… She's not happy about it, but wants to protect her family. -Something where they survive Scarif and have a chance to build a relationship from there… complex and hate-filled, of course.

gap the series ep 1
finally got around to watching this!! and so far, v cute, pacing is far too slow but overall solid start.
sammon have incredible chemistry and i will sit through infinite 10-15 second walking shots for them to stare at each other for 30 seconds. it is worth it!!!
Tumblr media
i too would fall in love with an older girl who saved me from a literal car by running right into it. v real.
Tumblr media
the height difference!!
Tumblr media
also, like, if you couldn't tell. the intimidating older woman vibes of sam are like, goddamn. yeah. could watch this show for that alone.
but i don't have to because mon is actually great! she speaks up and says what she wants and doesn't want and isn't a wilting maiden trope. i love her in contrast to sam's raze the earth while highly insecure vibes. they play off each other so well!
Tumblr media
this was honestly just funny.
they are so good together!!! truly as long as they're both on the screen i can watch anything. (although i do need them to stop with the company/business talk because it hurts how little research has been done on that end of the spectrum wrt to how social media (what kind of company are they even?) companies function, but hopefully that'll die down soon)
Tumblr media
she's so hot for this
the lighter/many many candles as a chekov's gun potential is also a fun little set up
i also am into the dichotomy they've shown between their home dynamics, and that neither is perfect but clearly mon's is more accepting all around. i'm looking forward to when sam tells her grandma to absolutely fuck off. (i need that to happen)
Tumblr media
also, i mean, she's kind of hot for this
i love a good enemies to lovers office romance.
outside of the pacing (that dinner scene felt like houurs), honestly a pretty solid start to a standard office bl/gl premise. it looks like most of the players have been referenced, if not shown up. the set up of how they go from enemies to lovers, also set up. and now we get some good solid cute shenanigans until ep 10/11 when all the conflict has to break free lol.

Thought of the evening:
I’m only just now becoming OBSESSED with Sui/Han (the pairs team from china 🇨🇳)
They for me are the VM of the Pairs worlds, and I don’t just mean their GOAT status (if not then by far one of the best ever) athletic prowess.
I mean they have what TS have- that thing that some claim to be madly in love (but not that), or that once in a million years magically unexplainable connection (my take on it), and an intimacy/chemistry on the ice that can’t be created out of thin air- it’s some written in the stars kinda shit.
They make me feel a similar way to TS do. Like time stands still, like they truly are in a bubble, like the air is thinner and only they can hear the music. Everyone watching is holding their breathe, you don’t want it to end, it’s so seamless, there’s never a major struggle.
As well as all that there is a tonne of uncannily similar stuff. They were paired up very young (not quite as young as TS but maybe even more so in pairs being put together then staying together from a young age is so rare because growing, teenage years etc..) I’m not sure if they were each other first partners, if not have obviously never separated since being put together. She had very serious injuries (both ankles) that required surgery and were potentially career ending (before the first surgery where they placed 2nd at worlds in 2016 he said they may not be competing ever again if the surgery doesn’t work). They have a very distinct lack of height difference (and height in general for pairs) which was something that always seemed to be a thing about TS- their lack of height difference and especially growing up if she got too tall it wouldn’t work out. It’s in fact a super power of both teams.
They are both the only two ‘couples’ skaters (pairs and ice dance) to win a Super Career Grand Slam (every major international competition in both juniors and seniors).
To be fair it’s not that I’m only NOW becoming obsessed. I desperately wanted them to win the olys this year- after their mission impossible SP I was like wholly fuck! And then their Bridge Over Troubled Water FP (which I later found out they re used the music but the program is totally different), and while I hate the fact that is was not the S+G version of the song I’m still in love with that program.
I’m essentially going down a rabbit hole like I did with VM the (2nd, 3rd time I got obsessed with them.. can’t remember) but I’m going so slow coz I just keep watching the same programs over and over.
Rn I CAN NOT stop watching their Rain In Your Black Eyes FP from 2019 worlds. I’ve watched it maybe 6 times and I’m borderline crying/ have chills every time.
Their chore in general is amazing!! Laurie Nichol does chore for lots of skaters but this is another instance like with VM where the very very best make actual magic from their chore.
They just have this intimacy and while it’s not as emotional and romantic as TS’s it’s still so moving and draws you in and gives you those feels that last for ages after you’ve watched them- that feeling that you really want to give them a hug afterwards coz you feel like they really laid their hearts on the line for you and you just want to make sure they’re ok.
It’s that thing like with TS that you can feel them communicating- not just talking (apparently SH also talk in their programs) but you can FEEL them communicating.
I’ve never felt this way with any other dance team and I honestly didn’t think I’d ever feel it from a pairs team at all. And honestly it is so surprising it’s a Chinese team illiciting this reaction. While trying not to play into stereotypes, it’s hard for me coz I’m so invested in geo politics but I’ve always found it hard to root for countries like china (also Russia and USA) and along with that in terms of artistic sports it is just typical that those eastern (block) teams are more technical and in general less emotionally compelling. But SH do not feel like any typical eastern block team. It’s almost astonishing their emotional presentation. They can be (in their own way- not the same a TS) sexy, seductive, romantic, intense, vulnerable. All those things and sometimes all at once and it’s amazing it’s giving me chills writing about it.
I even feel like I have a vague recollection of reading that SH are very inspired by TS and the way they move and they get a lot of inspiration from their innovation in lifts and dance chore (coz SH have insanity beautiful choreographic moments) Idk I could be making all that up to justify my obsession but I really do feel like I have (If someone knows what I’m talking about please hmu with facts)
The way they are in their partnership as well- and this is piggy backing off some commentary, he sets her off- he makes her the star, she is a star, but he makes sure people know it (just like Scott does with Tessa) but to be that good- to not distract from your partner but be soooo good in your own right in every part of it makes him just as good as her (same as TS). Their connection, they way they handle each other (out of chore) has similar qualities (again going back to the stereotypes talk is so refreshing to see from a Chinese team) once again not the exact same way but just this comfort and trust in each other that only comes from being together so long (but even then other long time partners don’t have this- it’s soooo rare).
So so far I’ve watched their 2016, 2017, 2018 2019, 2022 (these are the worlds/oly years) programs. Their shorts are always fire I’m obsessed with all of them. Their frees my faves are RIYBE (2019) and BOTW from this year in particular. Oh and turandot from 2018 olys (wasn’t perfect but is brilliant as well).
So fear not this is not gonna stop being a TS blog, I just need to say this coz while I watch a tonne of FS (mostly in the background while I sew) i don’t particularly love it or connect to a lot of it- there’s alot that bothers me about it (it’s relation to dance and now that I’ve learned about the more technical side of it the flutzers and the likes really piss me off..) but SH are special like TS are and so I just need to say it.
This post is for anyone else obsessed with SH- I’ve now boarded the ship (that maybe/has departed.. are they gonna keep competing, what’s the story with china are they banned like Russia- I didn’t think so but typical I fall in love with a team after they retire). And for anyone else who isn’t really a FS person and is just here for VM please go watch this team if you want the closest possible thing to TS but more ‘tricks’ (that’s the other thing about pairs I find it hard to connect to coz the elements are more ‘circus-y’. And generally less connection even compared to the most bland of dance couples).
Ok there. I’m a SH Stan. They make me (almost) cry and honestly that there were several times their career nearly derailed just like TS makes me so emotional.
Here’s a RIDICULOUSLY cute moment that’s something like TS would/does 100% do (not in public tho coz the crazies would legit just think T was pregnant with S baby 🙄).

Not usually a fan of Hallmark movies in general (for a plethora of reasons, mostly because they are always playing in the background at my house) but I watched Noel Next Door yesterday and found it to be one of the best I’ve seen (although it still has a bunchhhhh of problems, more below).
🚨SPOILERS AHEAD🚨
The two main leads actually have great (dare I say…SEXUAL !?!? Is that allowed?!?) chemistry and are so cute when they flirt with each other throughout. Had this been a different company, there would have been some more spicy 🔥 scenes for sure (I’ll have to find some fics 😈) There is a lot that can be explored with classical-musician-meets-diner-waitress dynamic, even a potential age gap (they already have some height difference), and other cute date ideas around Chicago. I am such a sucker for grumpy/sunshine (that doesn’t teach him about the meaning of Christmas, thank god).
The story refreshingly had some angst with legit real issues for both, i.e. dealing with illness, failed toxic marriages, and raising a preteen son solo, which made these characters more human and stand apart from other HM movies.
However, as cute as this movie was and how well the actors worked with what they were given, there are many ableist elements that are framed as the fault of the male lead, depriving him of his dignity throughout.
The story is loosely based on A Christmas Carol, making the male lead Scrooge-like with encounters in his neighborhood and own home. Being disabled from a stroke, Jeremy needs the use of a cane full-time, can barely use one arm, and lives alone (but why does his apartment have so many stairs???). Everyone in his life is like “Cheer up! Why are you so mean?” and gaslight him to thinking that the justified and frustrated reactions of adult to an unaccommodating world are somehow out of line. Jeremy is trying to survive while society keeps leaving him behind to deal with it all on his own, yet to others HE is the problem and trouble maker, by existing in those spaces with them and finding them lacking to his needs.
While Jeremy struggles to support himself by working from home, he is interrupted by carolers at his front door comprised of a woman and young girls, who won’t take no for an answer and continue to pester him until he shuts the door on them. They then shit-talk him to other neighbors afterwards, shocked at his “rudeness”, never looking inward that THEY might be the problem.
There is a kind (property manager?) character named Luis that is sympathetic to Jeremy’s condition and mental state throughout the story, but even he can’t widen his viewpoint and look at a situation from Jeremy’s vantage. There is an incident early on where Jeremy trips and falls from a power cord in the middle of the sidewalk that lights up the neighborhood Christmas tree. Luis completely misses the point about his own responsibility to clear public walkways (or being inclusive and put up other holidays along with it) and makes it about Jeremy depriving the other residents of Christmas. Rather then providing a reasonable solution (like a mat to cover the cord) Luis is “forced” to take down the entire display so he won’t get sued, making Jeremy unliked by the whole neighborhood. (This whole scene had me yelling at my TV). At the finale, Jeremy asks Luis to put it all back up, but it’s unlikely that Luis did anything different to prevent other people from getting hurt.
There are many instances of visible disgust and awkwardness from other people when they encounter Jeremy’s disability, such a young girl crying confused to her mom seeing him in store, a blind date/complete bitch who whines that he is embarrassing her while he struggles to take off his coat in a restaurant, and a chance meeting with his ex wife who we learn had left him after his diagnosis years prior. Even our female lead Noelle, at first meeting, questions if he is “really disabled enough” to be allowed to use a handicap parking spot, which he is pressured to defend by showing his cane and arm to her. Thankfully Noelle gets better after that 😅
The crux of the story are the building battles between Jeremy (known as Mr. Gier/ #224) and young Henry, the only son of Noelle (known to Jeremy as the mother at #204), as Jeremy is bothered by Henry kicking his house, playing pranks, etc. Compared to the actions of adults in this story, this young character gets the benefit of the doubt as someone who is clearly hurting and learning how to manipulate his parents after their recent messy divorce. However, I am highly annoyed by Noelle’s choices to parent when confronted by new info that her child has been lying to her and going out of his way to upset a disabled neighbor (who she is surprised is the same person she has been dating), and dramatically shuts out Jeremy while Henry goes scott-free. Perhaps she is in denial, or needs to seem like the good parent as her ex husband battles for custody and make Henry choose sides, but these choices and passive attitude are very frustrating as some parents IRL would rather believe the lies of their children then take a respectable adult at their word. Thankfully all 3 of these characters make up in the end as Henry choses to apologize on his own, and Jeremy makes the effort to find common ground to connect.
This movie’s subtext brings up complex questions of how disabled people navigate our modern society, with barely any resolution or justice, despite being a work of fiction. We have so much work to do still to connect diverse talent and with supportive production studios. I am hopeful we will get more stories like this soon: fun, escapist romances with humor AND still faithfully serving underprivileged communities by making them loud and understood instead of just antagonized.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
You Should Read This If You Like: historical romances with bipoc characters, British-Indian love interest, historical romances that don’t take place in a ballroom, sizzling chemistry, and seemingly doomed romances.
Tumblr media
I adore Mimi Matthews, she has quickly become one of my favorite authors in the historical romance genre. Her books always have a melancholic undertone to them, the kind of tragic unease best suited for haunting, doomed romances. Which is why stories like Gentleman Jim and The Matrimonial Advertisement are some of my favorites of her works. Matthews' writing feels very reminiscent of older classics. If "The Perish Orphans" series has the gothic, eerie moodiness of Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre, Then Siren of Sussex is more evocative of a classic Dickensenian novel.
It follows Evelyn Maltravers who’s in London for the season. On the brink of destitution, Evelyn desperately needs to make a wealthy match in order to pave the way for her younger sister's futures. But as a bluestocking wallflower, Evelyn is well aware of her lack of charms. In order to attract a wealthy husband, she hatches a plan to distinguish herself by making the biggest splash in the one sphere she excels: on horseback. But in order to attract the attention of a potential husband, she needs to dress and look the part. This is where she meets Ahemad, a British-Indian habit maker, whose revolutionary designs catches Evelyn’s eye. Together the two form a partnership to showcase their best designs to find Evelyn a wealthy husband, and Ahmad a wilder clientele guarding their hearts in the process.
The story is told through Evelyn and Ahmad’s shifting perspectives which makes for an interesting narrative as we get to explore both sides of British colonialism and the way that it shapes their relationship. In Evelyn we see the privileges of being born into the British upper class, even one that exists on the fringes. Confined within the limitations of her role as head of her household, Evelyn struggles to find a means to secure a future for her sisters in the wake of her older sister’s scandalous elopement. It lends a pseudo-claustrophobic undertone to the novel that never quite dissipates. However, Evelyn is a very dull protagonist, at times even laughably naïve in her worldview, which makes it hard to truly sympathize with her circumstances. Conversely, Ahmad is a more interesting character. He represents all the socio-economic struggles, microaggressions, and discriminations of being a racial minority and an immigrant working class in Britain. However, the novel only skims the surface of colonialism, only hinting at horrors like British soldiers “marrying” Indian women, indoctrinating families into the British lifestyle, forced religious conversions, or even the details of the Jallianwala Bagh massacres, etc.
In much the same way, Evelyn and Ahmad’s relationship feels superficial bordering on insta-love. There is an almost instantaneous attraction, the chemistry palpable in every stolen glance and every accidental brush of finger. The taboo/scandalous nature of their relationship drives the narrative tension. But their socio-economic, racial, and cultural differences set up various obstacles and narrative threats that are never fully realized. Seemingly insurmountable conflicts are easily resolved. There are cramped conversions on colonialism and colonial guilt with an attempt to highlight the impossibility of their relationship and yet the happily ever after never quite truly feels earned. With the writing style I almost wish this didn’t attempt to subvert the genre and ended as a tragedy instead.
Mimi Matthews’ writing has the kind of evocative quality to it that instantaneously transports the reader into the streets of London’s East End. The world building is fairly new as most of the action takes place on the fringes of London society. Unlike most historical romances, Evelyn and Ahmad fall in love in the cramped backroom of his Tailor shop, across racing tracks, and while browsing for books in closed bookstores. They exist on the fringes of society and these marginal spaces are described so vividly that you can almost smell the musty smell of old second hand books and cloth or leather. I just wish I could see more of it.
I struggled writing a review for this book. Sirens of Sussex has all the potential for being a truly outstanding novel in the genre. It had the promise of something new and no one is more disappointed that it failed to live up to the expectations I had built for this book in my head. 3.5 stars.

Zinedine Zidane's FC 24 Mastery: Attributes and Strategies
The latest addition to the football gaming world, FIFA 24, has been making waves with its fresh inclusions, particularly the highly anticipated FC 24 and its star player, Zinedine Zidane. In this comprehensive review, we'll delve into the intricacies of Zadan's gameplay, examining his attributes, chemistry styles, and optimal positions to maximize his potential on the virtual pitch.
Tumblr media
Zinedine Zidane's Stats and Attributes
Zadan stands tall at 6'1" with medium work rates, boasting an impressive five-star skill set and a five-star weak foot. Analyzing his in-game attributes, it's evident that his agility and balance lean toward the lower side, influencing his gameplay style significantly.
Upon experimenting with various chemistry styles, the Shadow Chemistry Style emerged as a top contender, providing a substantial boost in defensive capabilities while enhancing his pace, aligning well with his stature as a lengthy player.
Tactical Insight and Positioning
The gameplay experiments showcased Zadan's adaptability in different positions, highlighting his effectiveness primarily in a three-midfield setup. However, his versatility extends to a two-midfielder formation, leveraging his height advantage to hold ground effectively.
Furthermore, his performance in varying positions—center mid, CAM (central attacking midfielder), and CDM (central defensive midfielder)—revealed optimal gameplay when positioned as the attacking midfielder. This strategic placement accentuated his strengths, allowing him to shine in orchestrating attacks and demonstrating prowess in offensive maneuvers.
Chemistry Style Impact
The choice of Chemistry Style significantly impacts Zadan's gameplay. While the Hunter Chemistry Style amplifies his positioning and speed, augmenting his attacking prowess, it also accentuates the challenges associated with his lower agility and balance stats. Conversely, the Engine Chemistry Style, emphasizing agility, pace, and passing, displayed promising results, catering to a more balanced gameplay experience.
Performance Analysis
Through gameplay snippets and tactical evaluations, Zadan's gameplay intricacies came to the fore. His five-star skill moves were instrumental in creating space and unlocking opportunities, showcasing the finesse shot, incisive pass, and technical finesse characteristic of his playstyle.
However, it's crucial to note that maneuvering Zadan with the left stick did pose challenges due to his physical attributes. The 6'1" frame and corresponding dribbling attributes impacted his maneuverability, mainly when using left-stick dribbling.
Final Verdict
In the final analysis, Zinedine Zidane's FIFA 24 iteration proves to be a formidable player when utilized effectively. While his gameplay nuances might pose challenges, particularly regarding left stick dribbling, his five-star skills and attacking prowess shine in the CAM role within various formations.
Ultimately, the success of using Zadan lies in understanding and capitalizing on his strengths, especially in formations like the 4-3-2-1 and 4-3-3, where his attacking capabilities are fully harnessed.
For FIFA enthusiasts seeking a dynamic attacking force with exquisite skills, Zinedine Zidane emerges as a compelling choice, provided one adapts gameplay strategies to maximize his potential on the virtual field. What are you waiting for? Buy FC 24 Ultimate Team coins to get it!

Where Hard Work Meets Ambition
Tumblr media
The Power of Grit and Vision:
A profound truth lies in the broad fabric of human achievement: hard work combined with ambition is a potent combination capable of turning aspirations into reality. This potent chemistry, an alchemy of resolve and aspiration, is the driving force behind history's most extraordinary success tales.
The Daring Vision:
Ambition is the compass that directs our aspirations. It is the bold voice that says, "You can achieve greatness." Ambition pushes us beyond of our comfort zones, encouraging us to dream greater, set loftier goals, and question the status quo. It fuels our passion to make a positive difference, to innovate, and to make the world a better place.
The Foundation of Hard Work:
Hard labor is the solid foundation of any great achievement. It's the perspiration on your brow, the late hours, and the unwavering quest of excellence. Hard effort is the dedication to turning dreams into reality. It's the daily grind, the persistent effort, and the refusal to give up in the face of adversity. It is the knowledge that success does not happen suddenly, but rather through a series of focused, purposeful acts.
The Art of Success:
The art of achievement can be found where ambition and hard work converge. It is not a straight path, but rather a twisting, frequently difficult trip. Consider the following biographies of some of history's greatest achievers:
Thomas Edison: objective was to light up the planet. Edison's tens of thousands of trials resulted in the development of the practical incandescent light bulb. Despite numerous failures, his unwavering hard work paved the road for a brighter future.
Nelson Mandela: His goal was to free South Africa from apartheid. Mandela maintained his dedication during his 27-year imprisonment. His perseverance, both in prison and as a politician, resulted in the abolition of apartheid and the establishment of a democratic South Africa.
Elon Musk: his ambitions include conquering Mars. Musk's hard work and invention have reshaped the electric vehicle business, space exploration, and the way we think about renewable energy.
Overcoming Difficulties:
The route where aspiration meets hard labor is fraught with difficulties. There will be setbacks, disappointments, and times when it appears that the mountain is insurmountable. But it is precisely at these times that the marriage of ambition and hard work shines brightest. These difficulties are transformed into opportunities for growth, learning, and resilience.
What Is the Ripple Effect?
The beauty of this dynamic partnership comes not just in their individual accomplishment, but also in their far-reaching influence. Ambition drives others to dream large, generating an innovation and advancement culture. Hard labor offers a good example, emphasizing that dedication and diligence are the foundations of success. They have a cascading effect, raising individuals and civilizations to new heights.
Key Insights:
Ambition and hard work are the factors in the big equation of life that can transform potential into reality. They are the factors that propel inventions, social transformation, and personal development. Remember that ambition without hard effort is like a ship without a rudder, and hard work without ambition is like a rudder without a destination as you follow your dreams. When these two aspects come together, you unlock the full ability to turn your dreams into tangible accomplishments. Dare to dream large, and then work tirelessly to make those ambitions a reality. The seeds of greatness can be found at this fertile junction of ambition and hard effort.
Thank you for taking the time to read Born to Hustle newsletters, soon to be podcast as we talk to entrepreneurs and business owners on what ignited the hustle.

Copying this from Twitter because it ended up way longer than I intended lol. Anyways, here's what I'm replying to. Please know that I also think capitalism makes negative electric prices a bad thing, but, well...
https://twitter.com/AlanRMacLeod/status/1677081236991516672
begging these people to understand there's a lot more nuance here than anyone is presenting.
Dirt cheap electric prices, from a generation perspective, can mean that production is far outstripping demand. This might be OK in any other industry but it DOES NOT WORK here! The short and sweet version is "We don't have nearly enough energy storage to absorb how inconsistently solar/wind generate power."
The longer version starts with "The grid works best when generation = consumption, and too much of either fucks with the grid."
Not joking on that by the way, we have to measure the grid frequency to the thousandths because shifts in demand really do fuck with grid frequency. Too much generation and it creeps up, too little and it sags. A Reminder: The North American electric system is built to 60 Hz now.
This power regulation is currently best done with fossil fuel plants - they can spin up and down pretty freely, so long as they have fuel. It takes energy to do, so it's not like you want them turning on and off all day.
Solar and wind add a problem, though: you can't exactly regulate their output in any meaningful way. Fossil fuels you can just burn less, dams you can run less water through, nuclear you can try to turn down (they're best at base power though so you generally don't wanna do this). But solar and wind? Well, outside of straight up disconnecting them from the grid, there isn't much you can do. But that's energy to use!
This, annoyingly, causes some problems. Easiest to recognize is that these generation spikes mean you need to spin other stuff down more. Second is that you don't get a choice in that matter. The grid cannot, by itself, store power. Excess power will find a way to get back to its source, and that can cause real problems. You use it or lose it here.
But... what if we could offset the peak generation to peak demand?
Energy storage is, of course, the answer to this problem. Figure out how much energy you'll need for whatever reasons, and then figure out how you're gonna do that. Currently, there are two working ways to do that. Batteries, and pumped hydro. A third is a work in progress.
Batteries are great because there are no moving parts involved, the main complications being that Now You Have To Deal With Batteries. Which isn't easy, but we can do it. Their big problem? They're nowhere near energy dense enough for grid scales. Especially safer chemistries.
The current (and really long term hotness) in grid-scale energy storage is pumped hydro. Take a couple conveniently located lakes*, run tubes between them, and you've got energy stored in the potential energy of all that water!
*not required but it means less terraforming.
They're so simple it's almost stupid. Let water run down the pipes to turbines when energy is needed, then pump it back up when it's not. Sure there's more working parts, but the only new thing is the pump system. Everything else is just dam stuff. Why don't we build dams with pumped hydro? Honestly a lot of them could make it work, at least somewhat, but you need a pretty sizable height difference to maximize on the energy stored & generated.
Remember that I brought up trying to avoid terraforming? To make new systems cheaper and easier to install, you really really want the "conveniently placed lakes" or similar so you're not needing to dig up a lake yourself. Those lakes aren't exactly a common sight y'know. There's been a lot of work on using cranes holding concrete blocks to store potential energy that way, but the work is still ongoing last I heard. Big Problem to solve there is that, y'know, those blocks might crack and break if the crane isn't gentle with them.
anyways where was I? Oh right. Renewables make grid management more annoying and we need to store all the energy they make so they're actually useful. Batteries are, IMO, totally fine for on-premise & microgrid needs. Neighborhood operations would work alright too. Gravitational storage is either difficult to set up if it isn't the perfect spot (pumped hydro) or still actively being researched to see if it's actually viable (cranes & blocks).
So... where does that leave us with our problem?
Well, batteries might be enough to offset generation by a few hours so that there's a better baseline when everyone comes home from work. Cooking, heating/cooling homes, etc. are pretty predictable demand increases. But what if renewable generation is so good that it's filled up our demand shifting batteries? That's a really big problem, one that we don't have a solid answer for. Pumped hydro is a big deal but it's not as trivial as batteries to install. Cranes still have problems too. We don't want to waste energy from renewables - every megawatt we can store from renewables means a megawatt less of on-demand fossil fuel power. To be all in on renewables means being all in on energy storage. In my opinion, there is no way to separate them.
We need storage.
It also means giving engineers and constructors some time to get these projects up and running so the grid can really handle the inconsistent power generation of renewables. Which, however much I hate to say it, means letting us use on-demand fossil fuels while we get to work. We need more nuclear to replace the base power fossil fuel plants. We need more storage so every megawatt of surplus can be used later. We need a grid that is smart enough to juggle this daunting task.
And we need it all yesterday. So the next best time is to start now.
