Oh also, if you’re like me and you fucking fail at any and all planners you can use my method:
- for appointments, birthdays, etc. use a calendar app of your choice. Have the reminder set for 2 weeks beforehand so you can get whatever might be needed. THEN:
- have a daily, pen and paper to do list. Put literally every little thing you need to do on it. Everything that crosses your mind. And start dealing with it. Every day you make a new list, carry over tasks from the day before (I use a > when I carry something over give it a bit more priority).

HI PRETTY !!! I'm completely enamored with your pregnant bombshell x reid and I wondering if you'd write a little drabble about the 'S' necklace she has?? like did spence give it to her or did she just surprise him by wearing his initial?
“Kiss,” you demand, pulling him by the hand.
“Too tired.”
“Gonna pretend you didn’t just say you’re too tired to kiss your perfect girlfriend,” you mumble, not even having raised your head for said kiss. You’re exhausted too, but not too tired for him. “Please? If you want to.”
“Too tired,” he says again, slouching across the bed to put his head on your pillow.
Spencer kisses you and sets all your nerves on fire, though it’s not the first time. It’s not the hundredth time. It’s not even a proper kiss, he’s just pressing his lips to yours as his arm wraps around your waist in a fuzzy-feeling hug.
“Love you,” he says, “sorry if I fall asleep on you.”
“No, don’t,” you whisper.
“I can’t stay awake.”
You caress his cheek. “I have something I want you to look at, first, please.”
“Weird mole?”
“I’m never weird. Look, you’ll like it, I think.”
You’ve been trying to show him since he got home, but he’d ricocheted between dinner and dishes and the shower, and you’d fallen into bed together having nearly forgotten. “What is it?” he asks finally, interest piqued. He kisses you quickly. “You know I like your face.”
“I’m not showing you my face, baby, it’s this.”
You pull the necklace hanging from your neck out of your sleep shirt, the little pendant twisting in circles. You press your pinky behind it and hold it at an angle for his viewing pleasure.
“See?”
“Is that an ‘S’?” he asks. “For me?”
“Who else, babe?”
You put it down on your chest. He watches it rise and fall, his hand sliding up your stomach, resting over your diaphragm. “Where’d you get that?”
“Do you like it?”
He turns your face to his. “I love you,” he says softly, leaning in, the tip of his nose pressing to the side of yours. “You don’t have to wear that.”
“I want to wear it, Spencer, that’s why I bought it. Gimme a good kiss. I deserve it.”
He laughs but manages a good, albeit sluggish kiss. “You really are tired, aren’t you?” you ask, curling around him protectively, his hair silken between your fingers as you scratch his scalp.
“No, let’s stay up forever,” he says.
His hand snakes between you. He pinches the ‘S’ between two fingers, even with his eyes closed and his face sinking into the pillow next to you.
“I’ll get one for you,” he says.
“That’s okay. I just wanted to feel like you’re with me when you’re not.”
“M’always with you.” He gets a second wind, if only for a few seconds, kiss kiss kissing the skin below your ear, his voice like warmed honey. “All the time. You can’t get rid of me, I’m like shingles, or chronic hives.”
“How romantic.” You make sure the blanket is up over his shoulders and give him a last goodnight kiss. “Love you.”
Spencer will make a much bigger deal of the necklace in the morning when he remembers what you’ve bought and why, but tonight he mumbles nonsense praise into your cheek and falls asleep with his hand on your collar.

Tumblr media
Pairing: Simon “Ghost” Riley x gn!reader
Warnings: Fluff
Summary: How you and Simon show your love without words.
A/N: I smiled so wide seeing this request!! Thank you for loving my little blog!
Word Count: 770 (Not Edited)
Tumblr media
It will forever be about the little things. Every detail and trait and action. It’s about the things that are magnified within the warm silence. It’s not a secretive love. A love that is shielded away from the eyes of others so it can be questioned. It’s the type of love that is so clear that there isn’t any question of its existence.
Simon is so perceptive. He notices every micro-expression you have and the slightest changes in body language. He documents it in his mind, storing it for a later date even if it doesn’t seem important. It always comes in handy in some way or another.
When he’s out on missions, far from home and missing you, he tends to imagine your reactions to everything. When he’s out in the towns, he’ll briefly pause outside the shop. He’ll remember the way you had slightly twitched your nose at the colors of a piece of clothing. How your eyes strayed onto something a few seconds longer than usual. Then he’ll walk away from the shop, remembering the name. He’ll be sure to return before he goes home.
He brings back trinkets for you. Always. And it is always something you fall in love with. The same details. He already knows what you would want. What would grace him with that fond smile as you cradle them in your hands. It’s all based on elimination. He’ll pick something up, examine every aspect of it and then go through his checklist of you. How you’ve reacted to similar things in the past and deciding from there if he should move on. He never misses.
In return, you do your little acts of service. Always making sure everything he loves is stocked in the house when he comes home. Has his tea brewing and the kettle going for his convenience. You have the spaces in the house prepared for him to place his things. You make the transition from military to civilian as smooth as possible. His heart warms when he goes to the kitchen at any hour of the day or night, huffing at the sink of dishes. But his body relaxes and the tiniest smile graces his face when he looks to the side and his mug is already in the drying rack waiting for him.
He has never been more content than on the days he leaves for deployment. You will be dead asleep besides him, but it feels like you’re by his side the whole time he prepares to leave. In the kitchen, everything is laid out for him. The box of tea and the kettle and the to-go cup. A throw-away bag sitting in the fridge with a homemade meal for him to eat while he’s away. All the last minute things he grabs on the counter where he can’t miss it.
Before he leaves, he makes sure you’re prepared for anything that might happen. He has carefully instructed papers for any situation. Step by step things followed with materials for reference. He makes sure nothing is broken or may be in need of a spruce up before he leaves to minimize your inconveniences. Makes sure the fireplace has wood to last months. Double checks the backup supply of water is filled to the top. Buys extra batteries for emergency flashlights and the back up generator. Makes sure the car has a spare and a filled gas canister that is safely stored away. He predicts any problems you may have and thinks of ways to reduce and prevent it.
There are notes everywhere. You find them in drawers and in small spaces. In the obvious spots and the questionable ones. Inside pants pockets and coats. All have miscellaneous messages. Some paragraphs long and some with small drawings. It warms both of your hearts. You carry a note scratched out in Simon’s chicken scratch reading Why is there a bottle of water in the bathroom cabinet? Simon’s tactical vest has a crumpled and ripped hot pink sticky note that reads A magikarp can easily fuck you up <3 with the ugliest looking fish drawn under it.
The best form of your love is the quiet nights spent in each other’s company. Laying together with small brushes to each other’s skin. It burns into your hearts, and it’s nice to know that the two of you can just exist with each other. The kisses are slow and loving. The touches are lingering and full of yearning. When the two of you slide into bed, tucked against each other, you find it hard to think anything can exist outside of your love.
Tumblr media
Simon has no idea what a “magikarp” is, and he has almost drunk micellar water before.

A/N: I saw this earlier today and Iwa-chan first popped into my mind. Have fun reading lol.
Tumblr media
Warnings: slightly suggestive
Genre: fluff
You’re just doing the dishes on a normal Tuesday afternoon, when your phone rings.
Setting aside the plate you were just scrubbing down, you dry your hands with the kitchen towel on the counter before grabbing your vibrating phone.
You don’t recognize the number that’s calling you, so you frown in confusion before swiping your lock screen to answer it.
“Hello, this is (Y/N) speaking.“
“Good afternoon, am I speaking to the spouse of Lieutenant Iwaizumi Hajime?“
You feel your heart drop in your stomach, already fearing the worst: death, accident, arrest, murder, sudden enlistment,…
You gulp down with a heavy heart and answer back.
“Y-Yes, this is them.“
“Hello this is Captain Shimazaki speaking. I am calling to inform you that your spouse Lieutenant Iwaizumi Hajime came into work with a bruise on his neck. Actually multiple dark bruises along his neck.” He stops to cough awkwardly. “Although he looked pretty satisfied and happy this morning, please move your love marks down, so they can’t be seen when in uniform.“
You can feel your face heat up a thousand degrees, utterly embarrassed and wishing to sink 500 feet into the ground to disappear.
“U-Uhm s-sure, I will remember that for next time.“
For next time? Could you have worded that any worse?
“Appreciate it. Have a good day.“
“You as well, goodbye.“
You hang up simultaneously and put your phone down on the counter, leaning both hands on the cool graphite stone to actually process what just happened.
Too much distracted in your thoughts, you don’t even hear the front door unlock.
“Hey baby, I am home.“ Iwaizumi loudly greets you as he steps inside your shared home.
Taking his shoes off and putting them neatly by the door, he waits for your greeting back but receives nothing.
He saw your car in the driveway, so you have to be home.
“(Y/N)?“ The brunette calls out again, this time a little bit louder.
His rough voice finally snaps you out of your trance and you turn to look at him and the first thing you notice are the scattered hickeys along his neck.
Iwaizumi‘s face melts into concern, as he takes in your face. You look like you‘ve seen a ghost because your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your husband.
“Babe, what's wrong? You are as pale as a sheet of paper.“ With deep worry in his voice, he quickly approaches you and puts his warm hands around your face to grasp it gently.
“Uhm.“ You don’t know how to start this conversation.
“Well, your uh… I guess your boss called me earlier, basically saying I should tone it down a notch with uh… my marks on you.“
Iwaizumi takes a few seconds after hearing your words and all of sudden he bursts out laughing.
Slightly jumping at his sudden reaction, you are now even more confused.
“Gosh, this day keeps getting better and better. First I got to make love to my beautiful partner last night and this morning and then had a great day at work and now you’re telling me that you’re the one who should calm down with your marks on me?“ He keeps on laughing and steps closer to you, wrapping his arms around your waist and gently pushing you against the counter.
He leans in and slightly growls in your ear.
“Good thing they can’t see all those markings I left on you last night.“
Something hard starts to press against your stomach.
“Hajime, you can’t be serious.“
You can feel him pressing rough kisses against your neck, occasionally giving you bites and licks that make you swoon and melt on the spot.
“Come on, mark me up some more. Want to show everyone how sexy and seductive my drop dead gorgeous spouse can be.“
You give in and let him carry you bridal style to your bedroom, both of you leaving marks on each other and both of you so exhausted that Iwaizumi and you call in sick for the next day.

strawberry wine
real life has got me feeling stressed and uncertain so, naturally, i started thinking about a previous fic, which can also be read here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen’s dark, save for the light above the sink. Steve is elbow deep in soapy dish water when the radio on the china hutch behind him clicks on, a soft country ballad trickling into the quiet space. Arms wrap around his waist and Steve huffs a laugh as he reaches for the dish rag to dry his hands.
He turns in Eddie’s arms and is met with an expression that’s so open and full of love. It still catches Steve off guard sometimes, still not used to being loved by someone who proudly shows all of his emotions on his sleeve.
Eddie takes Steve’s hand in his as they sway in the dim light. Steve buries his face in Eddie’s shoulder and closes his eyes, letting him take the lead.
I still remember
When thirty was old
My biggest fear was September
When he had to go
The lyrics are like an arrow in Steve’s stomach. He grips Eddie’s shoulder tighter and presses closer to him as they continue to sway in the slow circle. Eddie just rubs a soothing hand up and down his back.
A few cards and letters
And one long distance call
We drifted away
Like the leaves in the fall
Doesn’t mention the tears seeping through his shirt or the way Steve’s shoulders wrack with silent sobs. Eddie presses a kiss above his hair and holds him tighter while he croons softly.
Strawberry wine and seventeen
The hot July moon, saw everything
My first taste of love
Whoa, bittersweet
“I don’t want you to go,” Steve admits against his shoulder, feeling a bit like a child throwing a tantrum. He thinks he’s allowed to be a little selfish when it feels like his whole world is being ripped away from him.
Robin’s transferring her community college credits to a state school after her gap year ends and the kids are a month away from graduation and starting their own college journeys.
Corroded Coffin’s been noticed. Their gigs at The Hideout have been growing ever since Eddie’s name was cleared and the murder charges were dropped and there was an actual scout at their last one. Talked to the band and showed them a pretty picture of fame and fortune.
And a way out of this cursed town.
And Steve? Steve has no idea where he’s headed in life. He gave college a try three separate times after Vecna and dropped out each time after a semester. Too stupid to understand what his professors were talking about and unable to keep up with the workload while also working full time.
What good is he if the world isn’t ending? If he isn’t being the protector, the body they need when shit goes sideways (it always goes sideways.) His parents were at least kind enough to pay off the mortgage and cover the utilities for at least a year before they fucked off to God knows where, but once that’s up? Family Video only pays so much and he’s definitely not being paid to drive the brats around every weekend.
“I know,” Eddie says, because they’ve already talked about it. The band’s been invited up to Chicago to meet with label executives next month to let them hear some samples of their music, and that means the possibility of signing a contract and finally getting their big break.
Steve is so, so proud of him.
He’s also so, so lost.
They’ve stopped dancing. Eddie is still running his fingertips along his spine comfortingly. Steve sniffs and pulls back just enough to look at him. His boyfriend has opted for a flannel over a band t-shirt today. Steve fiddles with the collar and doesn’t meet Eddie’s concerned eyes.
“But you have to go.” He sounds like he’s trying to convince himself. “I can’t hold you back from something you’ve waited your whole life for.” He gives Eddie a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. “Corroded Coffin is your baby.”
Eddie cups his face and frowns. “You’ll always come first, you know that, right? Even if I’m on the other side of the world, as soon as you say the word, I’ll come right back to you.”
Steve does know that, and it scares the absolute shit out of him. Being loved so completely and unconditionally. It’s been almost three years and he’s is ashamed to admit he’s still waiting for the other shoe to drop, for Eddie to wake up and realize he could do so much better than a washed-up has-been who peaked in high school.
For him to realize that Steve Harrington isn’t actually a good dude after all.
But he wants this thing with Eddie to last longer than three years. He wants forever with him and he can only hope that Eddie wants the same. So he swallows down his insecurities and self doubt and leans into Eddie’s space, pressing their noses together and taking the lead of the dance this time.
“I promise not to call too often, then.”

“Can I go out with you guys today?”
“You already know the answer to that.”
You were washing the dishes after breakfast, staring out at the yard through the window by the sink. Minho came up from behind, wrapping his arms around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder and taking in a soft breath of your scent.
“My little omega stays indoors where she’s safe.”
“But-”
“Your alpha knows best.” Minho said with a low growl. “Remember.”
“Yes.”
“Hm? Yes what?”
“Yes, alpha, you know best.”
“Good omega. Have you taken your meds yet?”
“No. I was going to after I finished doing the dishes.”
“Then let me help.”
Minho pressed a chaste kiss to your cheek before stepping over to the medicine cabinet. He grabbed your pill bottle and got a glass of water as well. He came back over behind you, lifting up two pills to your mouth.
“Open.”
You took the pills into your mouth, drinking some water when Minho held the glass to your lips and tilted it up. Afterwards you playfully gagged, getting another kiss on your cheek.
“Good girl.”
“Why can’t I go out again?”
“We’ve talked about this, baby, it’s dangerous out there.”
“But if I go with you guys, then you can protect me.”
“We only go out when we need to, and to get important things. We’re not out there having fun without you, love. I promise.”
“Still, you guys don’t even let me in the yard. Isn’t that unfair?”
“It’s for your safety. I can’t imagine what I’d do if something happened to you.”
“Nothing’s going to happen to me, that’s why-”
“This topic is not for discussion.”
You whimpered when you heard Chan’s voice, glancing over to see him a few feet away from you and Minho, arms crossed over his chest. He had a stern look on his face, but upon seeing you with your head down he softened up.
“We’re just keeping you safe.” Chan explained. “You’re an omega, our omega, and it’s in our nature to protect you.”
“I know…”
“It’s too early to be butting heads, so why don’t we talk about this later.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’ll help you with the dishes.”
Chan shooed Minho away, standing by your side and helping you out, taking your mind off the previous conversation. For as long as you could remember this had been your pack. Of course you weren’t born into it, but were brought in. Chan built his own pack, and you were their prized omega. You were certainly loved by all of them. At first you had no issue with staying in the house, it was a two story building with a basement, and there were plenty of things to do. There was always someone to keep you company, but as of late you’ve had a yearning to go outside. Yet their rules stated you wouldn’t even go out into the yard.
It was kind of ridiculous, but time and time again they’d tell you this was all to keep you safe. The scent of an omega could drive a wolf insane, and the last thing they wanted was to put you in danger. They never let another wolf near the house, let alone you, so going outside and letting the wind carry your scent was definitely not something they were gonna let happen. You understood their intentions, but you had to admit it was kind of suffocating. You wanted to feel a cool breeze against your skin, and the warmth of the sun wrapping you in a blanket. There was a lot you missed, but you didn’t want to upset your pack.
You had your own room in the house, but you always slept with someone else. They didn’t like the idea of leaving you alone at night, or at all really. Even when they went out at least one would stay behind, but there were always exceptions. One morning after breakfast Chan told you that they would be going out, all of them, which meant you had to be alone for a few hours. You tried to tag along but they all shot down your idea. Being alone for a while would probably do you some good too, finally able to have some long overdue peace and quiet. You saw them off, wishing them well on whatever it was they were off to do, and telling them to hurry back.
Your original plan was to sleep, but as you looked around the house you saw that there was much to do. So instead you began cleaning, wanting to get chores out of the way and get ahead of somethings too. Come noon you were still alone, so you just fixed yourself up something simple. It seemed like they wouldn’t be back until later, which gave you plenty of time to make dinner. You hadn’t made them a special dinner in a long time, so now was your chance. You gathered up all your ingredients and got to work, which helped the time pass. Once you had everything on the stove you found yourself washing whatever dishes needed to be cleaned. Once again you found yourself staring out at the yard.
It was just you in the house, so maybe you could bend the rules a little bit. You made sure everything on the stove was cooking and then decided to open the back door. You were immediately hit with a gust of wind, bringing a smile to your face. You stepped out onto the porch and sat down, taking in a deep breath. It was nice to be outside, even if you couldn’t step out further and touch the grass. You would have loved to have a garden where you could grow vegetables and care for some flowers. You had presented the idea a few times, but of course it was denied every time. You were supposed to stay indoors where it was safe.
While outside you made sure to keep your ears listening to the stove, but you also wanted to hear the animals roaming around. You had your eyes shut so you could take in your surroundings with your other senses. Because of that the sound of running footsteps didn’t alert you. In fact it was kind of nice. You could hear as the creature ran through the woods, paws digging into the dirt, the rustling of the surrounding flora as it passed by. It wasn’t until your ears caught a growl, one you recognized, that you opened your eyes.
You saw a giant wolf charging right at you. Immediately you crawled back, making it into the house. Your heart was racing from fear, and before you could think to get up and shut the door the wolf lunged at you, pinning you down. It growled in your face, and you couldn’t help the whimper that escaped your lips. You shut your eyes tightly, knowing better than to try and fight this. The growling was making you tremble and you didn’t even notice when the other had shifted, that is until a hand grabbed your face and forced you to look straight ahead. You didn’t need to be told to open your eyes, finding Hyunjin on top of you, eyes glowing a fierce red.
“What the hell were you doing!?”
“Nu… nothing… I swear…”
“Is there someone here with you!?”
“No! No one-”
“I’m not so sure I believe you.”
The rest of the boys came into the house, minus Chan and Minho, seeing that Hyunjin had you pinned. Before they could ask what was going on Hyunjin was barking orders to check the house for any possible intruders. They didn’t question it and began looking around the house.
“Hyunjin… there’s no one else… I swear…”
“You’re an omega, any alpha with enough power can make you do whatever they want.”
“I…”
“There’s no one here.” Felix reported. “Just our scents.”
“You sure?”
“Yes.”
“What the hell are you doing, Hyunjin!?”
Chan and Minho caught up with the others, walking in on a strange scene. Chan immediately yelled at Hyunjin, getting him off of you. For a moment you thought you had been saved, but then Hyunjin opened his mouth.
“She was outside!”
“What?” Chan growled, looking down at you. “Is this true?”
“I… I was just on the porch!” You explained. “I wasn’t really-”
“What have we said about going outside!”
“It was the porch! And only for a bit.”
“What if someone saw you?”
“I was paying attention to my surroundings and-”
“You didn’t see me coming.” Hyunjin remarked. “Not until it was too late.”
“Cause deep down I knew it was you, so I-”
“Enough.” Chan cut in. “You should know better than to talk back to your pack.”
“I… I’m sorry.”
You had stayed on the floor throughout the conversation, and while the yelling continued you pulled your legs up to your chest, trying to make yourself as small as possible. You were scared and visibly shaking. Chan sighed and knelt down before you, gently reaching over to pet your head and get you to look up at him. His eyes no longer had the anger that his voice carried, but instead were calm and reassuring.
“Y/n, you know how much we worry about you.”
“I know…”
“There’s a reason we don’t want you stepping outside, not even an inch. Don’t you trust us?”
“I do…”
“I’m sorry we raised our voice, we didn’t mean to upset you.”
“I know…”
“Good. Now, I see you were making dinner. We’ll finish up here, so why don’t you go with Felix and Jisung to take a nice bath. Okay?”
“Okay…”
“Good girl.”
Chan helped you up to your feet, gently pushing you towards Felix and Jisung. They each took your hand and led you upstairs. You were still a bit shaken up, but the two were already assuring you that everything was alright now. Jisung stayed with you as Felix ran the bath and made sure the water was warm. You undressed first, getting into the bath and the two others soon followed. You rested between Felix’s legs, his arms wrapped around you.
“Sorry about earlier.” Jisung mentioned. “Hyunjin was eager to get home and ran off first. He went overboard with how he reacted.”
“Hm.”
“You know we just want you safe. Which is why it’s important to stay inside.”
“But I miss the outside…”
“You have everything you could need inside and with us.”
“I don’t have grass, or dirt, or flowers, or-”
“We got your point.” Felix interrupted. “We’ll talk to Chan and see what he says.”
“You guys always say that…”
“Y/n, you’re making my heart hurt talking like this. Let’s talk about something else. What were you making for dinner?”
“I… I was making your favorite.”
“Oh, can’t wait to eat. You always make the best stuff.”
“Thanks.”
Even if the topic was off the table, it still lingered in your mind. You knew they just wanted what was best for you, but you never really had a chance to talk about these things with them. You let it go for now, smiling through dinner. Come bed time you went off with Seungmin, getting goodnight kisses and a few more apologies, especially from Hyunjin. You didn’t say much else on the matter and went to bed, curled up in Seungmin’s arms. For the most part you always slept well, but this time was different.
You dreamt of the outside, being among the trees and walking around the woods. It felt nice to take in the fresh air, looking up at the blue and seeing the clouds. You knew this was a dream, but you didn’t want to wake up. You were merely enjoying nature when you heard some footsteps. You called out to whoever was there, but no one answered. All of a sudden the sky was filled with storm clouds and it began to rain. You didn’t know which way was home, but you began to hear multiple footsteps around you. It was making your heart race, and then you began to run. You had no idea where you were going, but you knew you had to get away.
The footsteps followed behind you, and between the rain and splashing in the mud you had no idea how many there were. It was hard to see as the rain got thicker, and you could barely make out your surroundings. In your fear you wound up stumbling in your steps and collapsing to the ground. A loud roar filled your ears and you found it impossible to move. You were frozen in place by some external force, and all you could do was shiver in fear. You suddenly felt someone grab you and flip you around. All you saw were red glowing eyes, multiple pairs. In that moment all you could do was scream, but you didn’t just cry for help, instead calling out to someone to save you.
“Jongho!”
🖤
You jumped awake, breathing heavily and trying to steady your senses. You grabbed your head, feeling your hair stuck to you from all the sweat. You were about to get up when you felt a hand grab your arm. You screamed but when you saw Seungmin’s concerned eyes you apologized.
“… sorry…”
“Are you okay?”
“I… I think so…”
“Did you have a bad dream?”
“Yeah… I don’t-”
“Who’s Jongho?”
“Huh?”
“Jongho. You screamed his name just now.”
“I… I don’t know…”
“Why did you scream for him?”
“I don’t… I don’t remember…”
“You should have screamed for me if you were having a bad dream.”
Seungmin yanked you closer to him, wrapping his arms around you tightly. You had your face buried in his chest, your nose being filled with his scent. It was soothing, giving you a sense of warmth you couldn’t quite explain.
“You don’t need anyone else. I’m here for you, okay?”
“Hm…”
“Let’s go back to sleep, and no more bad dreams.”
You managed to fall back asleep while curled up in Seungmin’s embrace, sleeping peacefully through the rest of the night. You didn’t wake till morning, Seungmin right there with you watching you with a soft smile on his face. Once he knew you were awake he began petting your head, telling you how lovely you looked with the morning light on your face. The nightmare you had earlier was already faded in your memory, and you happily got up with Seungmin and joined the others downstairs for breakfast.
It seemed that your life went back to normal, except something had changed. You found yourself staring out the window more often now, and this longing to go outside only grew stronger. This house was no longer feeling like a home, but a cage. You hate that sensation, knowing very well you were loved, but it was getting harder to deny the truth. You weren’t supposed to set so much as a foot outside the door. Even when they were all around you couldn’t step outside. You always had to remain in doors, and that reality was starting to become unbearable. You didn’t even bring it up, knowing how the conversation would end.
Eventually your own frustrations culminated, and you had trouble sleeping. You’d toss about for a bit before managing to fall asleep, but on this night it seemed impossible. Thankfully you hadn’t woken up Jeongin with your restlessness, and so you decided to sneak out of the room. Maybe a little walk around the house and some water would help. You quietly made your way down to the kitchen, getting a glass of water and standing by the window. The moonlight illuminated the night, providing you with a beautiful view. You could only imagine what it would be like to bask in such beauty. Then it dawned on you that it was a possibility.
You looked around the house from where you stood, listening carefully. Eight heartbeats could be heard, all beating with a soothing rhythm, meaning everyone else in the house was asleep. It was risky, but it was a chance you were willing to take. You carefully walked over to the backdoor, slowly turning the knob and pulling the door open. You only opened it enough for you to squeeze through and step outside, quietly closing the door behind you. Once it was shut you let out the breath you were holding. You slowly stepped off the porch and out into the yard, looking up at the night sky filled with stars. It was so beautiful. A gentle breeze passed through and you took in a deep breath. There was something so nice about the fresh air.
You walked towards the trees, wanting to stretch your legs a bit and telling yourself that you’d be back before anyone knew you were gone. It felt incredibly freeing to be outside, and you knew this was what you needed more than anything. While walking about, keeping the house in sight you suddenly heard a crack of thunder. You crouched down from fright and looked up to the sky. There were no storm clouds, and the night air was still cool, no sign of rain in sight. You might have just been hearing things, but it sounded so vivid. You were completely alone, taking in a breath and continuing your walk. As you did so you suddenly heard a roar of thunder. It didn’t scare you this time, but then you felt rain coming down on you.
You glanced up at the sky again, met with nothing but stars, yet you felt the rain on your skin, heard it as it hit the flora around you. As you looked around your vision was blurred as if it was raining, yet you were completely dry. You heard footsteps out in the woods with you, but it was away from the house. Curiosity got the better of you and you walked towards the sound, ignoring the chills you were starting to get from the phantom rain. The footsteps began to get louder, and you heard a few more approaching. That’s when you began to hear voices, and even if you couldn’t make them out well, they were familiar to you. It was your pack after all.
“What are you doing out here, pretty thing?”
“I… I was just collecting some herbs for my pack…”
“You shouldn’t be out in the rain.”
“I’ll be heading to my pack now.”
“We could be your pack.”
“Uh… I have one… we-”
“You’re the only omega there, do they treat you well?”
“How… how do you…”
“You’re really pretty, you know.”
“Thanks… I really need to get back to my pack.”
You stopped when you came across a peculiar scene. You saw yourself standing under the shade of a tree, trying to shield yourself from the rain. Chan, Jeongin, Felix and Minho were there with you, slowly surrounding you. The sounds of more footsteps approaching caught your attention and you saw the others approaching. You had no idea what was going on, but this was all so vivid to be some kind of dream.
“You should get cleaned up first, our place isn’t far.”
“It’s okay…. I don’t mind the rain…”
“We don’t mind either.”
“I have someone waiting for me… they shouldn’t be that-”
“They can’t smell you in the rain, and I doubt they can hear you either.”
“I… I…”
“Why don’t you come with us, omega.”
You saw yourself immediately bolt into the woods, screaming for someone. It was the name Seungmin had mentioned before, one that felt familiar too, but there was more.
“Jongho! Yunho!”
Without realizing you had been following yourself, and saw how the other boys chased after you. One moment they were in their human form, the next you had eight wolves after you. In the blink of an eye you were running, your heart racing. You were no longer a spectator, but the one running in fear. So many memories began to flood your mind. Like you had said before, you came out with some of your pack mates to gather herbs when the storm clouds suddenly appeared. You thought it’d be a light rain, but it was clear now that the storm would last a while.
You wanted to return to your pack when you were suddenly approached by strangers. Because of the rain you were unsure if they were humans or werewolves at first, but once they began to speak you knew it was trouble. It was always a struggle to convince your pack to let you go out since you were an omega, their only omega. Then the present dawned on you. Chan and the others, they weren’t your real pack. You knew that of course, but this was something else entirely. You didn’t choose them as your home, they had taken you from it. As you realized that horrid truth you were tackled to the ground. You tried to get back on your feet, but instead you wound up on your back with a wolf pinning you down. Red eyes glaring at you.
“You shouldn’t run from your alpha.”
“You’re not my alpha!”
“We will be.”
You tried once again to break free, only to feel someone grab your leg. The wolf got off you, but you began to be dragged away. You screamed and kicked, but that did nothing to help your situation. Once again you called out for your pack mates, but you couldn’t be certain that they could hear you. The rain was mixing with your tears, and all you could really see was red. That was always one of the most terrifying aspects about yourself. As an omega you’d always find yourself submitting to an alpha, and you had no idea how many of them were here.
“Y/n!”
The sound of your name snapped you out of your daze. You were lying on the ground, alone and dry, seeing that it was still night. Your head was still foggy from all the mixing memories, but one thing was clear, you had to run. You quickly got up and began to run, not knowing where you were going, but needing to get away. The sounds of others chasing after you only pushed you to run faster. Although the unfortunate reality was that they had you outnumbered, and you weren’t even in your right mind. Too many things were swirling around in your head that you weren’t paying enough attention to where you were going. You tripped over an exposed tree root and tumbled to the ground. Before you could get your feet under you a foot was on your back pinning you down.
“What have we said about going out!” Changbin growled. “You’re in a world of trouble!”
“Let me go!” You cried. “Just let me go, please!”
“You must have had another bad dream.” Jeongin crouched down next to you. “It’s okay, we’re here now.”
“No, no you’re not my pack! You’re liars!”
“This is why we don’t let you outside.” Chan mentioned. “You get all kinds of funny ideas in your head.”
“I remember that night! You had been watching, and waiting… waiting for a storm and… and-”
“Enough.” Minho barked. “We’re going back home, now!”
You continued to cry and scream as you were dragged back, trying to hold onto anything you could, but they were far too strong. When you were back in the house you felt your heart sink, starting to realize why they kept you locked up. Even when they were gone, their scents filled this house, kept you docile and under control. Now you were back in your cage. Although this time around you went somewhere else. You were taken down to the basement, a place you hadn’t been to before. They put you in a room, chaining your leg to the wall.
“No, no, no, no, what is this? Please-”
“Quiet!” Chan roared, causing a whimper to escape your lips. “Let’s just all calm down.”
You crawled back until you hit the wall, pulling your knees up to your chest. You were shivering and trying to make yourself as small as possible. Chan slowly approached you, reaching over and wiping away your tears, ignoring how you flinched from his touch.
“I’m sorry, baby. You had us all worried when we couldn’t find you.”
“… please…”
“I know you must be confused, but we love you. We’re your pack, and we’re just trying to keep you safe.”
“… why… why… you’re not my pack…”
“Sh, sh, sh, we are. We’re your home, and we’ll help you learn that again.”
“Again?”
“You’re our precious omega, we won’t lose you.”
“…”
“Just take a deep breath, and listen to your alpha, okay?”
“I-”
“Listen to your alpha.”
“… okay…”
“Good. Now let’s refresh your memory.”

A/N: This is an excerpt from chapter thirteen of my fic Always an Angel, Never a God. To read more please visit a03.
After dinner we wash the dishes and settle in the living room to pick a movie for the night. Joel is thumbing through our collection of DvDs when a knock sounds on the front door. Both of us freeze, unsure of who could be stopping by right now.
We exchange a look as the visitor knocks again. I go to the door while Joel makes his way up the stairs. I wait until I hear a door close upstairs before I open the one in front of me.
On the front step Maria stands with her hands in her pockets. The evening sun casts an orange glow upon her as it starts to sink in the sky.
“So you are alive,” Maria jests, a smirk spreading across her face. “I’ve been texting you all day. I was trying to see if you wanted to hang out since Ellie is off on that school trip, but I got worried when I didn’t hear anything back. Why haven’t you responded?”
My chest tightens. I haven’t even looked at my phone since I got home last night, abandoning it with my purse and keys in the doorway the second I got home. I try to think of an excuse as to why I couldn’t respond while Maria peers into the house behind me.
“I’ve just been really busy with things today,” I say, fiddling with my fingers. I pull the door closer to me so she can’t see inside. “I’ve been cleaning and painting. Just enjoying the alone time, totally spaced my phone I guess.”
Maria’s eyebrows scrunch together. She tries to look behind me again and then looks back at my face as though she’s trying to decipher whether or not I’m lying.
“So there’s nobody else here?” Maria asks. I try to keep my reaction small so she can’t catch on to anything. “Because normally your car is in the garage but it’s in the driveway now, and you’re acting kind of strange…”
I see my car in the driveway behind her. We had moved it out there to make room fit the truck in the garage. I put a palm to my forehead and feign a reaction as if I’m just now remembering it’s out there.
“I must have forgot to move it back. I was cleaning the garage earlier and had to move it out there.” I can tell Maria doesn’t buy the lie.
I don’t know why I’m trying so hard. Out of anyone Maria is probably the one person I can tell about us, but there’s something I like about hiding it. It’s like in keeping this secret, I keep a piece of Joel for just myself. Keeping it a secret may have started as a way of protecting Ellie, but it feels as though I’m protecting Joel and I as well.
From my experience, love is hardly ever simple or kind. Love is heartbreak, and the outside world can only break what we have. I like our secret, and even though it’s just Maria on my doorstep I will do whatever I can to keep our small piece of the world separate.
“Well, I’m sorry you drove all the way out here but I’m kind of in the groove right now with this painting,” I say.
Maria’s eyes flick up to the stairs. She doesn’t ask any other questions though. She nods, says her goodbyes, and drives away. When her car disappears I close the door again. Joel is silent upstairs.
I go to my bedroom first, expecting him to be laying on my bed or standing by the window, but he isn’t there. I check the bathroom as well. When I find no trace of him I make my way to the art studio.
I find him standing there, observing some artwork stashed away in the closet. His fingers gently brush against the top of the canvases as he moves from one to the other. I tread lightly across the room and brush my hands softly against his back. He jumps at the touch, quickly putting the paintings back in their place.
“You’re being nosy,” I say playfully as I wrap my arms around his chest. He stiffens under my touch, clearly feeling guilty for being caught snooping through my stuff.
“Sorry, saw Maria through the window and then the closet door was open so I was just curious. Figured you’d be talkin’ for a bit.” I peek my head around his shoulder to see what he’s looking at.
The first painting in the stack is a woman in a rowboat with a faint lantern glowing in the distance. I forgot this is where I chose to store my mother’s work. I still have a hard time looking at it.
“Did you do these?” Joel asks. I shake my head.
“Those were my mom’s actually.” I bury my face in Joel’s back, trying to seem as unbothered as possible.
Joel hums in response and looks at the paintings again. I suppose this is Joel’s first interaction with who my mother truly was. He knows she died in the accident. He knows she was an artist and Frank’s friend, but I never really talk about her life.
“She was really talented,” Joel says.
“Yeah, she was,” I say. I rest my chin on his shoulder, looking for a way to change the subject.
Joel ponders a thought for a moment as I admire the way the evening sun casts a beautiful glow on his tan skin through the open window.
“Can I paint you?” I ask. I feel Joel’s body jolt as he chuckles beneath me.
“You already have,” he says with a smirk. He points to a couple of paintings hidden in the back of the closet.
Anything I paint of Joel has to either be obscure, or hidden so Ellie doesn't find it. I’ve been able to paint him from memory, but it would be nice to have a visual for once.
“No, I want you to model for me.” Joel shifts uncomfortably as I run my hands along his arms. “Please, just for a little bit. The lighting is so good right now.”
Joel huffs, but nods his head. I happily grab the chair from Ellie’s desk and place it in front of the window. He grumpily sits down and allows me to position him the way I want. I put one of his arms around the back of the chair and the other resting on his knee.
He stays still as I pick out my colors and get the canvas ready. It isn’t until after I’ve painted his form and begun to work on the details that he starts to get antsy. He moves slightly in the chair, apologizing when I shoot him a look. His eyes wander the room as I paint the highlight of the golden sun on his cheek.
“What was she like?” Joel asks, breaking the silence in the room.
“Who?” I ask, keeping my focus on my painting.
“Your mom,” he responds. I freeze with the brush against the canvas.
It’s not that my mom was a bad person, but I find it hard to talk about her now. Talking about her is a reminder of what I’ve lost, and I hate to dwell in those feelings for long which is why I’ve been avoiding the topic.
This time there’s no way out. Joel waits patiently for my response, not moving from the position I’ve sat him in. I shift in my seat and clear my throat as I try to think of a way to explain who she was.
“She was really creative,” I start. “She never found something she couldn’t make herself. She was funny, and smart, and very supportive of Ellie and I in whatever we wanted to do.”
I smile at the memories of her, picturing the way she would pick Ellie up after a fall and sweep her into her arms.
“She loved deeply,” I continue. “She was strong in whatever she did. Which also meant she felt emotions really strongly, whether that was love or sadness or anger. I saw a lot more of that when I got older. After Ellie was born, her and my dad started fighting a lot more…”
My throat begins to become thick with emotion, so I clear it and focus on the light again. I work on getting the shadows correctly on his jaw, trying to ignore the way his eyes linger on my reaction.
“What about your dad?” I drop my paintbrush on the floor as Joel speaks again. I curse under my breath as I go to pick it up.
Talking about my mom is hard enough, but I wouldn’t know where to begin with my dad. I don’t know how to understand, let alone explain the two versions of him that exist in my mind. When I was small he was kind and playful, gone a lot but always present when he was there. Later in life, after he stopped traveling for work, he was irritable and withdrawn. He wasn’t mean, but he dampened the mood in the room.
“Can we just,” I take a breath as I stand up to paint again. “I’m sorry, I’m trying to focus right now.”
Joel’s eyes soften, noting that the mention of my father must have been too far. He remains silent as he watches me work for a little longer, but something is off now. The art becomes more mechanical and methodical than before. The brush doesn’t flow as it did. Joel must notice the difference too, because he shifts in his chair.
I begin to protest when he stands up from the chair I’ve sat him in. The lighting will be gone before he settles again. He tunes me out as he grabs the biggest empty canvas he can find and lays it flat on the ground.
“What are you-“ Joel grabs my palette from my hands next, placing it on the cart next to my easel. He cuts me off by placing a gentle kiss to my lips as his hands grab the hem of my shirt.
“It’s my turn,” he says. “Let me paint you.”
He pulls my shirt over my head, sucking in a breath when he exposes my bare chest and stomach, and then continues to undress me. His fingers grasp the waistband of my leggings. He pulls them down my legs, waiting on his knees for me to step out of them.
He puts my leggings in a pile on top of my shirt before kissing up my bare legs. I throw my head back and sigh at the feeling while his fingers climb up to my hips. He pulls my underwear down as well, leaving me completely bare in the middle of the room. Something about this feels more vulnerable than when we were on the stairs or in the kitchen. I’m suddenly aware of how exposed I am.
I shiver as he kisses his way back up my body. When he’s standing again he kisses my lips and then pulls back to look me over. His eyes gleam with desire as they graze over every inch of my body.
Joel is still wearing all his clothes. My hands reach forward to grip his shirt. I need us to be even. I can’t have everything focused on me right now, but that’s what Joel has decided.
He pushes my hands away and picks up a paintbrush. I watch him anxiously as he dips the brush in the bright yellow paint on my palette before turning back to me. I pinch my eyebrows together as he walks behind me.
My body jolts at the feeling of the cold liquid trailing down my skin. I can’t see what he’s doing, but I can feel the tickling sensation of a paint brush against my skin. He spends a while doing it, coating my entire back in an assortment of colors. When he’s done he walks me back to the canvas he placed on the floor.
“On your knees darlin’” he says, the paintbrush in his hands. I follow his instructions embarrassingly quickly.
Once I’m on my knees he delicately directs me backwards so I’m laying on top of the canvas on the floor, then he stands again. I begin to pant as I watch him load the palette up with colors again. He glances back in my direction quickly and then takes his shirt off. A tension builds in my pelvis as he takes off all of his clothes except for his boxers.
He brings the palette and brush back over to where I lay on the floor, putting them on the ground before kneeling in front of me. His eyes wander slowly over my body again. He mutters something I can’t quite hear under his breath while he picks up the paint brush again.
Gently he strokes the brush down the middle of my chest. I squirm at the feeling, the paint on my back smearing along the canvas as I do. A devious look appears in his eyes as he continues to run the brush along my chest and stomach until it runs out of paint. He loads the brush up with red next then starts with my left breast.
The bristles brush along the top of my breast until he reaches my nipple. I let out a whine as he swirls the brush along the sensitive nub. When he’s satisfied he chooses another color for the other breast, bright purple illuminating my skin as my chest begins to heave. I can feel the slick collecting between my thighs. I desperately need his hands on me which only makes him go slower.
When I’m completely covered in paint Joel puts the brush back down on the palette and sits on his knees to admire his work. I squirm again and desperately attempt to squeeze my legs together to ease the tension. My desperation only seems to darken the lust in his eyes. I try to sit up and reach for him, but he grabs my wrists and pins them above my head.
“Joel, please,” I whimper. His face hovers above mine, a cruel smirk spreading across it.
“Stay there babygirl,” he whispers and releases my hands.
I watch with heavy breaths as he moves back on the floor. His hands push my knees apart to expose my core to him. He groans at the sight of my glistening center.
“So fuckin’ wet baby,” he growls. He swipes his thumb across my folds causing me to jump. “You keep your hands up there sweetheart, don’t move ‘em or I’ll stop.”
I nod my head quickly, my hips gliding back and forth on the canvas as I wait for him to touch me again. He licks his lips before laying on the ground. His hands grip my thighs as he pulls himself up to my center. I feel his breath against me first, a rush of warm air causing the tension in my stomach to jump.
He presses a delicate kiss to my clit, teasing the sensitive bud, and then licks a stripe up my center. I moan and squirm again. His lips smile against my core as he pulls himself closer and thrusts his tongue inside me.
A loud guttural moan escapes my lips as he begins to feast between my thighs. I desperately grasp the edge of the canvas to keep my hands from grabbing him as he curls his tongue inside me. I could almost come from that alone, all the tension from his teasing building into a pit of pleasure in my core. I can’t control the way my body thrashes against the canvas as he moves his tongue to flick against my clit.
“God, Joel,” I moan. He picks up his speed, eating me as though it’s his last meal on earth. I’m already so close to the edge when he moves one hand from my thigh to press two fingers inside me.
I scream as he thrusts them in and out, my grip on the canvas tightening. I squeeze my eyes shut as the pressure builds. He crooks his fingers so they press against the sensitive part inside me. The rush of sensitivity as he does so is what causes me to break my resolve. Without thinking, my hands release the canvas and bury themselves in his hair.
Joel immediately pulls away, tutting his tongue as he crawls back to his knees. I whine again and attempt to pull him back to me as I squirm.
“Please, I’m sorry. Please, don’t stop,” I beg. Tears escape my eyes while I squeeze my thighs again, so desperate for the release that just barely escaped me.
“Oh princess, you make this so hard.” Joel says. He reaches a thumb to my cheek to wipe the tears away. “One more chance sweet girl, roll over.”
I look at him questioningly, but I’m too far gone to argue. I roll onto my hands and knees, the paint causing me to slide a bit on the canvas. He leans back and watches as I get myself ready for whatever he has planned next. I hear him shuffle behind me, but I can no longer see what he is doing.
When I’ve stopped moving his hand moves up my leg, gripping my ass for a moment before pulling away. I gasp when I feel his hands return with a sharp smack to my ass. Then he pulls my cheeks apart and moves forward.
He must have taken off his boxers when I turned around because I can feel his bare length push against my dripping folds. I bite my lip as he slides it against my center.
“You want this baby?” I nod, biting my lip so hard I can taste the blood filling my mouth. He moans as he presses himself forward, filling me once again.
I stay completely still while he pushes into me, focusing on the burning stretch until I feel his hips flush with my ass. I keep my hands rooted on the canvas as he pulls back again, but when he thrusts in harder than before I slide and collapse on my stomach. Joel goes down with me.
His chest is pressed against my back, his hands keeping mine pressed against the slippery canvas as he pulls back and thrusts into me again. We moan in unison as he continues his thrusts. My body sides across the canvas with each one and his slides against mine.
The whole thing is messy and slippery, a combination of sweat and paint with loud moans echoing down the halls. He kisses my neck, leaving marks on the skin, as my climax begins to build again. My walls clench around him, signaling how close I am. He thrusts harder, his fingers intertwined with mine as he slides my body up and down.
I’m staring out at the pink and purple sky through the window when orgasm crashes over me. My walls flutter around Joel as I scream. His low moans rumbling through his chest while he continues to thrust into me. When I come down he pulls out and directs me to get up.
He lays down on his back, moving me to climb on top of him. I position my knees on either side of his hips and watch his face twist in pleasure as I sink down on his length. The both of us are covered in paint now, a smattering of colors bleeding together on his chest as he grips my hips.
I throw my head back as I bounce in his lap. He feels so good at this angle. I can feel every vein and ridge of his cock as I slowly rise and lower my body onto him. It’s my turn to tease now.
I try to keep my pace slow, to torture him just a little bit, but it becomes difficult when I feel the pleasure bubbling up inside me again. I can see in his eyes he can tell I’m close again.
His hands move up to squeeze my breasts as I ride him. I feel his fingers pinching my paint covered nipples and moan. I’m not going to last long. He starts to thrust up as well, meeting me halfway as my hips start to lose momentum. My hands press against the canvas as I attempt to keep my pace with my climax looming over me.
“It’s okay sweet girl, come here,” he says. I lower my chest into his and let him take over. He thrusts hard into me a couple of times before I shudder again. “That’s right, let go. Come on.”
I clench around him one more time before letting go completely. He swallows my moans, kissing me deeply while he continues his thrusts until he can’t any longer.
“God, I’m gonna-“ he thrusts again and then stills. “Get up, you gotta-“
Joel pulls me off of him quickly. I climb down his body to take his pulsing member in my mouth. I swirl my tongue around the head, and that’s all he needs to release his load into my mouth with a deep moan. His hips twitch as he lets go, spilling into my mouth. When he finishes I sit up and swallow his load.
“Fuck,” he groans. I smile back at him. He carefully stands up, doing his best not to slip on the canvas.
We both stand back and look at what we created. It’s a mess of color, still wet with no clear reasoning behind any of it. There are places where the colors blend so much that they’ve become a muddled brown or gray. In other areas bright shades of color shine through virtually untouched.
“Damn, I really thought I did something there,” Joel says with his hands on his hips. “Kinda just looks like a mess though.”
I lean forward and kiss a patch of skin on his shoulder untouched by the paint.
“I don’t know, I kinda like it.” I say. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me close.
“Well, you’re the artist,” he says before pressing a kiss to my hair.
We abandon the idea of a movie completely, choosing instead to bathe together so we can wash the paint off our skin. Joel’s hands are gentle as they wash my body, the colorful water pooling at our feet. He let the water run cold against his back as he pushed his fingers inside me again, slowly working me up until my body spasms again.
The rest of the night we stayed in bed, talking and fucking until we fell asleep.

GENESIS
Tumblr media
CHAPTER ONE—INTRODUCTION
summary: beginnings are never easy. you contemplate your life from start to finish, and try your best to make sense of it all.
Tumblr media
Remembering the beginning, would always hurt.
“Hey—come on, kid, get away from my front door.”
Your ears rang loudly, almost too loud to hear the woman’s voice.
Something nudged your leg. “Come on, move it. Now.”
Remembering the days spent running the length of the training building.
Sweat pouring down your back. Laughter, alongside friends.
Remember. Remember. Remember. It seemed all you were ever able to do.
And a time when it all felt it was slipping through your fingers despite all your best efforts.
“Come on!” You cried. His coat was cold under your grip. “Get up! Joel, get up!”
Desperation was a killer, and a brutal one at that. A scream was building its way up your throat. Your throat pinched with the shrill desperation in your words. Your breath came out raggedly, looking down at the man you looked to for guidance.
“What do I do?” A cry tore from your chest. “Joel, what the fuck do I do?!” You screamed. “Where’s Tess?!”
Joel remained still, and footsteps from above terrified you into shifting. Grabbing at the rusted screwdriver off the floor, you got to your feet, fear gripping you around the shoulders.
A creak at the top of the staircase, and you could scarcely breathe, let alone will your feet to run.
A black boot made its way into your vision, landing quietly on the top step, and you bolted.
‧₊˚❀༉‧₊˚.
Sometimes, laying in bed, you would think back on moments that seemed so insignificant, that later actually led to something so wonderful you could not comprehend how you got so lucky.
Like a dreamy day in Jackson.
“Feet off the couch.” Tess swiped them off the armrest. You let them fall, your mouth quirking up. You watched Tess walk away into the kitchen down the hall, and quickly put them back up.
“Joel’ll be home soon,” she said. You turned your eyes to the ceiling, counting the cracks. “You wanna start on the chores?”
“Not particularly.” Your eyes followed a crack in the plaster, seeing how far it went. Tess’s unusual silence quirked your wonder, and you raised your head.
And was greeted to the sight of a dirty cup, and it’s contents of dirty dish water dangling over your head. There Tess stood, an eyebrow raised.
“Alright! I’m going. Can’t a girl get five minutes of peace?”
“Five minutes?” She scoffed. “You’ve lay there all day!”
“You’d complain if I was out doing drugs,” you rolled your eyes, playfully, and walked over to the sink, eyeing the dishes from this morning’s breakfast. Joel’s leftover tea had stained the water a murky brown.
A tea towel hit you in the head, and you laughed. “You—dishes, now.”
The rest of the chores continued in silence, a comfortable one. It wasn’t very often that you and Tess actually had any time to spend together these days. Between her newfound love of odd-jobs around the town and a favouritism for the Tipsy Bison, it had been difficult to sit and talk to her for long. Not that you’d sat around doing nothing the last few weeks; Joel had been insistent on you attending the small school at least twice a week, if not for learning then for some proper company. Since then, all day every day you strolled the town with new friends, only heading back home when the streetlights came on (per Joel’s ask).
The quiet in the house allowed the sound of footsteps on the porch to grow closer, a certain heaviness that only came with Joel’s strides. Keys jingled, and the front door opened, letting in the cooling, end-of-September air. Tess threw him a casual ‘hey’ from her spot in the living room.
“Got something to tell you,” he said, referencing Tess. Thankfully, he sounded…relieved?
“‘S it good or bad? Don’t ruin the mood, Texas.”
He chuckled. “It’s good. Hey, kiddo. Thought you’d be out today?”
Kiddo. You’d never had a proper nickname before. The fact that Joel stuck by it and used it continuously…well, it made you feel warm.
“I was gonna,” you shrugged. “Just kind of wanted to relax today.”
At the beginning, you’d been almost timid with Joel, unsure of how he would take things you said or did. Tess was easier to get along with, and you wanted to say more caring, too. Joel protected you when he had to, when he had no choice—during your trek out of the Boston Quarantine Zone, ambushed by clickers, and the time you’d barely gotten away from David. At one time, you felt perhaps he felt he had an obligation to you for Tess. Tess cared for you because she wanted to; maybe not in the way you needed at the time, but in a way you appreciated—bandaging your cuts when you got hurt, halving her food for you during your travels across the country during a particularly difficult winter.
Despite everything bad that had happened since then, the very start, you were grateful. Grateful for this house beginning to turn into a home. Grateful for the sacrifices both Joel and Tess had made.
You finish the dishes, and find your place under the window in the great armchair, under the patch of sun. In the hallway, Tess dusts the staircase banister, humming under her breath. Joel walks around upstairs. Everything is calm.
You almost itch for adventure. The cogs of your body scream at you to keep going. It’ll take some time to rewire them, to teach your brain that this is safe. Maybe you’ll never sit still again. Perhaps this is who are you and will always be.
The beginning was not easy. And let’s be real; when is it ever? When asked to explain it all years later, and when you finally came to put your past to paper in an old, yellow diary, you began with the story of a boy forever aged fourteen, of two young teenagers scaling the walls of their home, and the night that kickstarted it all.

This is your final warning :)
ps. I didn’t edit or proofread so there may be typos!
The greasy bowl of popcorn has long been empty, but only now as the credits roll are you able to slip out from the weight of your boyfriends’ dozing frame to return it to the kitchen. You dump the bowl in the sink where it clatters against the rest of your unwashed dishes and you sigh. The last thing you want to do right now is wash dishes, but you turn the tap to warm and squat down to find the drying rack under the sink.
Footsteps creak the wooden floor behind you, accompanied by a wave of cigarette scented air. Matty. Goosebumps rise along the back of your neck as you rise. Your heart hammers at an alarming rate and you try your best to act exceedingly normal even as he approaches you. Just as you drip some dish soap into the filling sink, his hands settle on your hips. You can feel the warmth of his palms and the calloused fingertips through the thin fabric of the t-shirt you've probably had since your freshman year of college. The tap continues to run, gushing water loudly into the sink basin. Despite the steam rising from the hot water you shiver as he presses his lean body into your back. A traitorous hand sneaks up to clear your hair away from the nape of your neck and your mind whirs to remember the last time you had felt quite so electric. A dark, bouncy curl strays across your ear so quickly you almost think you’re imagining it.
“Lame ass boyfriend you’ve got out there, love.” His voice is silky, tinged with a hint of sleepiness that somehow only makes him more attractive. You can picture the way his mouth curves into a self satisfied smile as you automatically nod. It feels bad to admit, but you truly had been bored by your boyfriend lately. The spark between you had died long ago but you were simply afraid to admit it.
But Matty certainly wasn’t. “Not even a quarter past 10 and he’s already asleep.” His breath ghosts into your ear, a whisper meant just for you even though you knew no one would catch you. The thrill makes you needy, keening against his body as he reaches around to turn off the tap. A sudden, deafening silence rushes in, and the apartment is so still you’re afraid that time has actually stopped.
“He had a long day,” you amend as Matty’s teeth catch the shell of your ear, tugging playfully.
“Jesus, love. I had a long day too, and I’d still stay up all night if you asked me to.” You blush and resist the urge to squeeze your thighs together at his words. “Such a pretty thing shouldn’t have to go to waste.” Your head lolls against his shoulder and he knows he has you. His aura intoxicates you and you can’t help but think of all the time he existed in your peripherals: first as the eccentric best friend of the guy you just started talking to, then your boyfriend’s best friend and roommate, and then after one night where your boyfriend was away, your dirtiest little secret.
A well-worked hand cups your breast through your shirt. Your nipple pebbles immediately at his touch and he laughs the snarky little laugh you would usually roll your eyes at. He knows, you both know, he could reach underneath the shirt and easily have his way with you, pinning you against his frame as his cock hardens and tweaking your nipples until you’re wailing.
You allow your brain to run away with the fantasy; your boyfriend waking up to the sounds of your pleasure, dazed and confused until he stumbles into the kitchen to see Matty licking between your thighs like a man starved.
But Matty likes the game. He takes a sick pleasure in the cat and mouse, in teasing you while you could get caught. He loves the deep blush that overtakes your face when he sends you a risky text or makes a point to clench his jaw when you catch his eye.
He loves that whenever the three of you hang out, you often excuse yourself to the bathroom and send him photo evidence of the mess of slick he caused in your underwear.
He rolls his hips against you, sure to press his cock firmly into the flesh of your ass. The counter underneath your fingers is your saving grace as he builds a torturous rhythm, nipping and pulling at your ear in a way that has no right to be so sexy. Every time a piece of his hair brushes against your neck you feel as if you’ve gone insane; like someone has attached all of your neurons to a jumper cable. A heady moan escapes your mouth before you can stop it, and Matty rewards you with an indulgent groan of his own. The push of his hips is intoxicating, and the persistent arousal gathering in your lower stomach makes you dizzy. With your eyes closed and his mouth at your neck, it’s easy to pretend that this is simply your life; that Matty is the one you met first, the boyfriend you share a bed and a history with, and that this little kitchen tryst is a sexy story you’ll remember when you miss him and not under struck with guilt.
“Y/N?” It’s far away, the call of your name, but it distinctly belongs to your boyfriend. Ice fills your veins and you still, overly aware of the tight grip Matty keeps on you even as you try to wiggle away from him and reply. As much as you hate to admit it, you’re happy he doesn’t relinquish you so easily.
“Y-yeah?” You call back, hoping your boyfriend chalks the shake in your voice up to anything other than his best friend’s hips grinding slowly against you. The couch creaks tellingly as he gets up, and your throat closes up in fear. You can hear his slow descent toward the kitchen, his sleepy shuffle giving Matty ample time to play around with you, and he does just that. His hand drops from your breast and his hips still, but his mouth stays sinfully close to your ear.
“Good night, love. Come find me if you need someone to fuck you better.” Before your mind can even fully wrap around his statement he disappears, presumably to his bedroom. The absence of his body leaves you cold and frustrated, but the presence of your boyfriend forces you to pretend you’re okay.
He looks rumpled and sleepy when he finds you in the kitchen, frowning at the time on the stove and the sink full of bubbles.
“C’mon, dishes can wait until the morning.” He gives you an easy smile, one that would have made you giddy to kiss him a few months ago. Now you just nod and skirt away from his approaching figure, acutely aware of the fact that you would smell just like Matty if he got too close.
“Go-go lay down, I need to use the bathroom first!” The excuse sounds lame even to your own ears, but he doesn't seem to have the energy to argue as he slips down the hallway, leaving you to purge the evidence before crawling into bed.
----
The restaurant was way fancier than you were expecting it to be, and even though you had pulled on a mid-length sleek black dress with pearled straps you felt out of place. The open planned room was bustling with diners and servers; but most of the noise comes from the exposed kitchen. You can see the slew of chefs as they work and the clashing of pots and pans makes it almost impossible to hear your boyfriend. Or Matty.
He wasn’t supposed to come, to be honest. The night was meant to be a celebration for just you and your boyfriend, who had recently wrapped up a project for a huge client. It’d been a long time since the two of you went to a fancy restaurant, and you had honestly been excited to get dressed up and spend the night with him. When you showed up to his apartment, you were stunned to see Matty, sprawled across the couch in his infinite glory, wearing a fancy black suit.
“W-what?” You stuttered at the way his eyes pierced you, his hand resting casually on his stomach.
“’M coming with you guys. Can’t let my best mate go on a celebratory dinner without me paying for some drinks, can I?” He flashes you a dazzling smile that disarms you just enough you can’t find it in you to be upset.
So now you’re a party of three at the bustling restaurant, and Matty has already ordered a fancy bottle of wine for the table. You hate to admit just how much of your attention he’s stolen already, sitting so close to you that you can feel the heat radiating off of his thigh onto your own. Despite the interesting calamity of the kitchen and the murmurs of slightly-shouted conversations, all you can focus on is the curve of Matty’s lips, the way his eyes shimmer in the low-light. Your boyfriend seems more than happy to idly enjoy the scenery, pointing out the chefs and their specific techniques to you despite your waning interest. The wine goes down easy, and you pour yourself a second glass as Matty starts another inane conversation about whatever dish is getting pumped out of the open kitchen.
The fuzzy feeling from the alcohol is welcoming, enveloping you in a warmth that helps distract you from the press of Matty’s thigh against your own. You smile gratefully at the waiter who brings you a pasta dish and dig in, thankful for the distraction. You’re careful not to move an inch, so you know it’s Matty who’s pushing further into your side, and you’re sure that the night is going sideways when you feel his pinky finger trace along the top of your thigh. You swallow hard, trying your best not to shudder at his touch. His wastes no time in grasping the meat of your thigh under his palm, squeezing just enough that a spark of pain morphs to pleasure.
“Matty.” You hope there’s venom in your voice as you warn him against his fingers creeping closer to the inside of your thigh. He just smiles in your peripheral before taking a bite of his own food, disguising the movement of his hand underneath the table skillfully. Arousal runs through you, and you feel your panties soak as a long finger skims across the material. Under anyone but Matty’s touch you would be embarrassed at how fast you became a wreck, but the easy pleasure of his fingers dancing over your clit sends you into happy bliss.
Matty’s fingers slow and simply press against you, building an internal pleasure that burns into your stomach. You let out a heavy breath and drain your glass of wine in one gulp. Matty laughs, and your boyfriend raises an eyebrow at your behavior. “Maybe you should pour her some more? Don’ let it go to waste.” Matty nods toward the bottle inches from your boyfriends plate. You see him hesitate, but he relents and grasps it, leaning forward to pour you a new glass. There’s a moment of anxiety as his point of view shifts and Matty makes no attempt to move his hand away from your center. In fact, his fingers stir back to life as soon as your boyfriend leans slightly forward to pour you a new glass. Matty slips his fingers under your panties as soon as your boyfriend is back in his seat. His fingers slip against your bare pussy and you close your thighs around his hand.
“T-thanks,” you stutter, avoiding picking up the glass as a tremor wracks you. Matty takes another casual bite of his pasta and puts on his best confused face. His eyebrows furrow as he fakes a concerned look over you.
“You aren’t gonna have any? Thought you liked it?” A dexterous finger circles your clit mind numbingly slowly. You glare at him and take another drink. Now that you’re well on the way to being drunk, every single sensation is heightened. A dark pit of arousal is consuming you and the desire to sink your teeth into the flesh of his neck is overwhelming despite the company. Desire makes you bold as you bat your eyes at Matty, biting into the flesh of your lip.
“I love it.” You cant your hips forward into his hand, sure to emphasize just how wet he had gotten you. It’s debauched, and guilt begins to creep up the back of your neck, but Matty growls under his breath and pushes a finger inside of your walls and it melts away.
Your boyfriend is blissfully unaware of the mess between your legs all night. He asks no questions about the way your face flushes (easily excused by the wine), the way Matty only eats his courses with one hand (he’s always doing some new eccentric shit), or the way neither of you are able to carry on a conversation for more than a few seconds (the restaurant is quite loud).
----
The weather is ridiculously hot, and of course it’s the one day of the year you decide to clean and rearrange your apartment. To be fair, you had begun the process of emptying out old clothes and housewares at the beginning of the week, and you had skillfully ignored moving your big pieces of furniture up until today. Your apartment is hot despite the fans you’ve pulled out of storage, and the heavy wooden bed frame you had insisted on buying will not budge. No matter how hard you pushed or pulled on the frame, it stays stubbornly in place. So you call your boyfriend.
And he can’t come, called into work on account of a picky client who demanded someone fix his renderings today. But Matty is miraculously free; and he’s on his way as soon as you text him.
And of course, he looks sinful. A plain white t-shirt with a scoop neck affords a wonderful view of his collarbones and sun kissed skin. The urge to pull his stupid smirk into a kiss overtakes you, so for once you listen to the yearning and pull him against you. Matty breathes a chuckle against your lips before indulging you. His tongue slips easily into your mouth and you relish in pressing against the hard planes of his body. His chest rumbles in appreciation when he takes a handful of your ass, fingers hooking down dangerously close to your pussy. You feel alight, floating inside of an undefinable cloud of pleasure as he consumes you.
You relish in the way his chest heaves with exertion once you part. “Need help moving a bed?” He wipes at his bottom lip with the pad of his thumb. “Sounds like a shitty chat up line to me.”
A frustrated groan passes your lips, and you ignore the bait he’s clearly dangling in front of you in favor of soaking up air from a fan. Between the heat of the day and the fire of arousal in your stomach, it’s needed.
“Very funny. Now can you please help me?” You don’t wait for his answer as you walk to your bedroom. His socked footsteps quickly follow your own, and in seconds you’re both standing at the foot of your bed. It’s oddly domestic, with the rumpled blankets gathered at the foot and the delicate floral sheets you  got on a discount.
“Cute,” Matty comments as he plops himself fully onto the bed, legs sprawled wide and inviting. You try to ignore the bulge tenting his sweatpants and put on a brave face.
“I need you to help me move it, not lay on it.” You whine, reluctantly shuffling within his reach. Matty catches you easily around the waist and it takes no time for you to collapse into his embrace. He nuzzles into your neck and it’s startling how nicely he fits around you.
Never one to delay, Matty licks a line of heat down your neck and you lose the last bit of your control. “You smell so good.” The simple sentiment sends liquid heat to your pussy. A sharp nip to your neck makes you squirm and you know that you’ll have a hickey to conceal in the morning.
His breath puffs against your neck, and you have the urge to turn and face him, tired of looking at the wall instead of his face. As your hips shift he groans, pressing his hips forward until you can feel the twitch of his cock against you.
“Something you need?” You know the innocent game drives him crazy but you use it anyway and he stalls, assessing the situation with that astonishing wit. The sharp tug of your hair brings you into a place of happy submission. Matty wraps the tendrils between his fingers and makes sure you aren’t going anywhere before cocking your head until you’re stuck staring at him. The chocolate brown of his eyes is nearly eaten up by lust. This close, you can smell the intoxicating mix of his woody cologne and the beginnings of sweat.
“Please,” the word leaves you before you can even guess at what you’re asking for. Luckily Matty has learned to read your body like his favorite guitar. A delicate, fluttering kiss to your nose is just enough to disarm you as he uses the corded strength of his arms to guide you down his chest until you’re faced with the tantalizing push of his cock against his sweatpants. His fingers untangle from your hair but don’t leave, just allowing you the room to work. Something clicks in your mind and the only thing you care about is getting him off- feeling the familiar weight of his cock in your mouth, or the way his fingernails leave untraceable evidence of your tryst on your scalp.
You’re only half surprised to find he has no underwear on but it only makes your job easier. As soon as your tongue makes contact with his cock he’s moaning, guiding your hair into a ponytail at the back of your head and controlling your pace. Spit leaks from the corners of your lips as you finally engulf the head of his cock, but the mess only sends both of you further into oblivion.
“Fuck, you’re so good at taking my cock.” His voice drips with arousal and you squirm, bucking your hips against the bed as you continue to swallow him down. Matty head no problem taking the lead, pushing you down until your throat spasms. Eyes fluttering, you try your best to make eye contact with Matty as you wiggle your tongue along the throbbing vein.
“Pretty girl.” His Adam’s apple bobs, and the melodic noises that spill from his lips only spur you on.
As his hips twitch and his grip loosens you take it upon yourself to change the pace on him, intent on making him cum. His head tips back into your pillows and his cock twitches violently, the delicious cue to the end goal you’re always going for.
“C’mon, off now,” Matty tugs at the roots of your hair, erupting pleasure that makes you moan around him listlessly. “Fuck, seriously, baby, ‘m not coming in your mouth.” With surprising restraint he pulls your head away and angles his hips out of your reach. Empty, your eyes water as you pout. Spit decorates your chin and Matty’s eyes glaze over before he wipes it away with his thumb.
“You dirty little thing. Asked you to stop and you kept on like you couldn’t even hear me.” A telltale current of amusement intertwines with the chastising, and curls of arousal have you nodding stupidly.
“Cock drunk.” He tuts and shucks his shirt over his head. A shit eating grin splits his face as you remove your own, shucking off your bra shortly after without any preamble. Matty makes an appreciative noise at the sight of your tits and surges forward to push you down against the bed.
He’s on them near immediately, indulging in the newly revealed flesh. His tongue laves over one nipple as he pulls at the other with deft fingers. Your back bends as his teeth scrape across the mounds of flesh.
“D-don’t leave a mark,” the idea of your boyfriend seeing the marks he surely didn't leave sends your mind reeling, but Matty just laughs evilly.
“You seriously think he’s gonna be seein’ these tits?” His gaze hardens at the edges and you’re momentarily stunned. You know he’s right, and you hate how much arousal gushes out of you because of it. “Cause who do you belong to?” He’s challenging you now- he knows that you’re on the same page about the truth of your relationship.
“Y-you, Matty.”
He rewards you with a blossoming hickey at the swell of your breast which he instantly soothes with the flat of his tongue. In a rush he works your shorts and underwear off of you, exposing the heat of your pussy to the room. Wetness sticks to your thighs and you’re desperate to have him inside you finally. Matty settles over your lower stomach, tracing his fingers delicately across the skin there as your hips jump wildly.
“Matty, please just fuck me, I can’t wait-” your words trail into a heady moan as he swipes two fingers down your slit, collecting your wetness with a happy hum. Your mind blanks at the touch that almost fills the empty feeling in your stomach, but you know his cock is the only thing that will satisfy you.
He curls the fingers across your clit until tears spring into your eyes, and then he sticks them in his mouth. The lewd sound makes you blush, and the sight of his eyes rolling back in satisfaction is one you want to bottle and keep forever. His eyebrows knit together at your taste, and you feel like you might combust.
“Matty!” You grasp his forearm and use all your remaining strength to pull him back towards you. “Please, please just fuck me already. Seriously, wanna feel you.” You push your bare hips into his own and a dangerous glint lights his eyes.  “Oh, love.” You know he’s relenting when you feel him steady his hand on the base of his cock and slide the head over your clit slowly. “You know how many nights I’ve heard you fuck him?” You shake your head dumbly even though you and your boyfriend had certainly been the butt of jokes the morning after, back when the relationship was new and exciting for you both. Matty’s hips flex forward and he pushes into you slowly. The stretch is pure pleasure, and your nerves set on fire at the intrusion.
“All those times,” his voice shakes as he presses into you, a stray curl ghosting over your forehead. “...you never begged him as hard as you beg for me. Tha’s how I know you really want it. Want me.” Before you know it he’s filling you and huffing praise into your ear. Your whole body shifts as he sets his pace and your nails run over his shoulders, surely leaving reddened marks in their wake.
“Yeah, wan’ you.” Pleasant fuzziness engulfs your body, the ebb and flow of his hips sending you to a plane of pleasure only Matty can take you to. Two deft fingers swirl around your clit harshly. Your bodies slick with sweat and glide together intoxicatingly, and if human limitations didn't exist, you would stay like this forever; your bodies existing in a perfect tandem.
“So fuckin’ hot, sweetest little pussy I’ve ever had.” Matty’s rambling makes you dizzy as your orgasm approaches rapidly. You don’t even have to warn him that you’re on the edge for him to know, increasing the movement of his fingers until your vision is spotting with black. Your walls clench tightly around him as you finally come, clawing at the plane of his back and chanting his name.
Matty comes shortly after, the warmth of his release filling your deepest, darkest desire. It’s sickly satisfying to feel his cock twitch and empty inside of you, to hear the deep moans that spill from Matty’s kiss bitten lips as he fills you to the brim.
Still connected, Matty collapses to the side of you, capturing you in a sweet lilting kiss that nearly makes you dizzier than the orgasm. Your tongue burns with a sentence you know you aren’t allowed to say. Matty’s face morphs as he sees you choke on the words, and he smooths down your mussed hair with a heavy hand.
“Okay?” He asks, a gentle check-in.
“Yeah,” your voice is hoarse so you clear your throat and try again. “Yeah, it's just that...we still have to move this stupid bed.”
As if his brain was on a delay from the sexual exertion, it takes a few seconds before his award winning laugh wracks his body. The bed shudders under him, and you can't help but laugh along with him, dumbstruck with love. You swallow the words again and pat his cheek lovingly.
“Right, Matthew. Let’s get going. Believe it or not, I didn’t text you just to get you into my bed.” He pouts cutely and sighs with dramatic flair as you untangle yourself from him.
“If we move the bed, can we...?” His teeth shine as he smiles at you, and if you didn’t know any better, you would think the glimmer in his eyes reflects something like the words you refuse to say.

april fool’s day - CL16
→ charles leclerc confessing his love for his best friend, y/n just to fuck it up by telling her it’s just an april fool’s prank.
Tumblr media
y/n questions her life choices every time someone compliments her cooking. she should’ve gone to a culinary school and opened a restaurant. everyone constantly asked her to cook for them, just like her best friend, charles who begged her to cook for him tonight.
"mamma mia. you don’t know how much i missed your cooking. perhaps i should hire you as my personal chef." charles looks at the food that y/n brought him to the table.
"yeah sure, sure. eat up cha." y/n sat in front of charles and was ready to eat too.
the two started eating their meal and having a conversation, catching up and charles making terrible jokes in between. of course, you didn’t forget to roast charles’ terrible jokes.
"can’t believe it’s april already." charles puts down his fork and knife.
"i know right." y/n agreed as she grabbed her and charles’ empty plates.
"let me do the dishes; you already cooked." charles snatched the plates from y/n.
"alright. if you insisted." y/n chuckled playfully and followed charles to the kitchen.
charles brought the plates to the sink, and y/n stood behind him, leaning on the kitchen island.
"i wish you were at the race last week," charles stated.
"i wish i could be there too, cha, but" y/n was about to reply, but charles interrupted her.
"no. hear me out. i’m so used to having you around me all the time, and when you’re not around, it doesn’t feel right. it’s more enjoyable when you’re there, yes. you make me feel at ease; you make me feel—i don’t know y/n. it’s just that it doesn’t feel right." charles still continuing washing the dishes.
"what are you saying, charles?" y/n looks at her best friend, puzzled.
"what i’m trying to say is…i like you—no i love you y/n…more than friends." charles said, nervously.
y/n swore that her heart had dropped to her knees and her eyes had widened out of shock. she froze upon hearing charles’ sudden confession. she couldn’t seem to speak up or move. charles put down the clean plates and turned around to look at y/n to see her reaction.
"…got you! happy april fool’s day." charles laughed.
"haha…that’s funny…" y/n faked her laugh.
"…yeah…let’s watch the movie we talked about earlier, shall we?" charles clears his throat.
"i might have to skip out on that one; I don’t feel well suddenly. maybe next time?" y/n pretends to be dizzy.
"what? are you okay?" charles walked closer to her, looking worried.
"just feeling a little light-headed; i haven’t had a good night's sleep for the past few days." y/n stepped back and left the kitchen.
"you can rest in my room like you always do." charles followed her to the living room.
"no, i want my bed for tonight. thanks for the offer though." y/n grabbed her purse and keys.
"hey, slow down. do you want me to drive you home?" charles walked faster as y/n is basically speed-walking.
"no. you don’t have to, and i want to be alone tonight. you go get some rest too; you must be tired." y/n smiled weakly before leaving charles at the door.
y/n went straight home. she felt like crying tonight—charles’ april fool’s prank really got to her. she thought he felt the same way. y/n always liked him—loved him more than friends since she doesn’t even remember when.
arthur came home to see his brother sitting alone in the living room; he already sensed that something’s wrong.
"where’s y/n? I thought you guys were going to watch a movie while making out or something after you finally confessed." arthur chuckled, sitting next to his brother.
"she went home. suddenly not feeling well." charles replied, his eyes glued to the TV screen.
"…you fucked it up, didn’t you?" arthur looks at his brother.
"i don’t know... i confessed and she froze, so i just told her that it was an april fool’s prank." charles looks back at arthur.
"oh my god! you’re so dumb sometimes!" arthur said with frustration.
"what?!"
"of course she’s froze! how’d you feel when your crush confessed that she felt the same way? you must be shocked, surprised, and happy at the same time that you don’t know what to do!" arthur explained.
"y/n feels the same way..."
"she does! i don’t know why the two of you can’t see that you guys are in love with each other when it’s obvious to everyone!"
"you’re pranking me." charles shook his head, not believing his brother.
"i’m not! why’d you think she went home earlier? and no, it’s not because she’s not feeling well. that’s a lie. it’s because she’s hurt! you saying it’s a prank is like pushing her off a cliff. it hurt her." arthur is basically screaming at his older brother now.
"i really fucked up, didn’t i?"
"yes you did, but you can still fix it. go to her place now." arthur points at the door.
without hesitation, charles took his car keys and drove straight to y/n’s place. charles stood in front of y/n’s door, taking a breath before pressing the doorbell.
y/n who’s currently staring at the ceiling and already in bed, she cursed at whoever was standing in front of her door right now. she doesn’t care about how she looks right now; her eyes must be puffy from crying, but she doesn’t care.
"if it’s another prank, i’m going to slam the door at you." she opened the door to see the man that she had cried over for the past hours.
"no, no. it’s not, i promise. i’m sorry, y/n. i didn’t mean it. it wasn’t a prank. i panicked when i saw your reaction; i was being honest; i love you more than friends. i really do." charles looks at you softly.
"you do?"
"i do. i really do love you."
"i have the urge to get you back, but i also badly want to kiss you right now." y/n smirked.
"then kiss me," charles said.
y/n stepped closer to charles, leaning in for a kiss. charles kissed her back and pushed her inside. he kicked the door shut, still kissing her. she brought him to her room, and the two spent the night in her bed together.

“Why.”
Not a question. A demand. He Tian wonders if, as much as Mo Guan Shan says He Tian always makes demands of him, he’s also aware that he does the same.
“Hm?”
“Why me.”
He Tian ponders at the words as he runs his fingers on the side of Mo Guan Shan’s head resting in his chest. The shorn hair is starting to grow. Mo Guan Shan has noticed. And tomorrow, he’ll probably go to the barber shop downtown, the one he’s been going to since middle school, to get it cut again. Maybe he’ll ask He Tian to come and they can eat at the corner noodle shop next block from the barbers, the one with the really spicy mapo tofu Mo Guan Shan likes. He Tian will drag them to the fancy yogurt store he likes by the station to get his tongue to stop hurting from the mapo sauce and Mo Guan Shan will tease him about his shitty spice tolerance (It’s not! Mo Guan Shan’s Sichuanese palette is just short of demonic!) before heading home to do laundry.
Or if Mo Guan Shan doesn’t feel like going out, he’ll shave off the side of his head over the bathroom sink himself (maybe he’ll ask He Tian) and they’ll just order takeout. And then do laundry.
“Hey.” A pinch at He Tian’s exposed hip which hurt enough for him to tug at Mo Guan Shan’s ear in retaliation. “Answer the question, you dick.”
“Tch.” He Tian’s hand continues to run through Mo Guan Shang’s hair, down to his neck, to his shoulder, his arm, and then back up. Repeats.
The touch is light and almost absent. Done almost as if just for something to do. Mo Guan Shan knows He Tian is thinking. He waits.
There’s a myriad of answers to that. Chief among them is, well, He Tian doesn’t know really. Mo Guan Shan was just some delinquent who Jian Yi and Zhan Zheng Xi fought once. He Tian helped beat him up and then he saw him again eating a sandwich outside of some convenience store he couldn’t remember what chain now. He Tian was bored. Mo Guan Shan was a good distraction. A fun distraction. He made He Tian laugh. Truly. Genuinely. The type that travels warm through the chest and sits pleasantly in the belly. The type of laugh he has to stifle. And He Tian can’t remember the last time he laughed that wasn’t out of derision or condescension. Mo Guan Shan is a good cook. A really good cook. He Tian never really cared much for food beyond needed sustenance but the first taste of Mo Guan Shang’s beef stew got him craving. To this day, He Tian swears it’s one of the best dishes he’s ever had. Mo Guan Shan needed better friends and maybe at the time He Tian also needed a friend. Mo Guan Shan was strong but he needed saving too and He Tian liked being needed.
Mo Guan Shan had the eyes of someone fighting the world as if it owes him something. He looked at He Tian like a nuisance and without any expectations. And He Tian liked exceeding expectations regardless if they don't exist so he took that as a challenge.
But it’s also precisely because Mo Guan Shan looked at him without expecting anything. For someone like He Tian that was the most refreshing thing in the world. Mo Guan Shan looks at him and He Tian can just be. And now the only expectations he wants to exceed are Mo Guan Shan’s.
“Your eyes.”
“What?”
“It was your eyes. I liked them.”
“Liked?” Past tense?
“I still do. I like you.”
“My eyes, huh.” A pause. “Why?” A genuine question this time.
He Tian shrugs. “They looked sad.”
“Have you looked in the mirror.”
“Not the same.”
“You liked my eyes because they looked sad.”
“I like sad things.”
“You’re sad.”
“On the contrary, Little Mo.” He Tian presses Mo Guan Shan against his side. Skin to skin, half of Mo Guan Shan’s body practically draped over him. He keeps him there and drops a kiss on fiery auburn locks. Smiles against his temple when he doesn’t shift away and just stays there, pressed snug against He Tian. The arm thrown over his bare torso is a very welcomed warm weight. “I am actually very, very happy.”
Now. Because of you.
“What about now?”
He Tian lets his hand travel lower, beneath the sheet draped loosely over their hips, to grab at soft flesh.
“Oh, I am very, very, absolutely happy right now.”
“Tch.” Another pinch to his side, a light kick in the shins. “Not what I meant, pervert.”
“Eeeh. You love it.” Love me. “Well, what do you mean?”
“Are my eyes still sad?”
A consideration. “No.” He Tian thinks of warm brown eyes welcoming him home with dinner on the stove, thinks of the wicked glint in them just moments earlier looking down at him as Mo Guan Shan rides him, of the euphoric haze in them afterwards when He Tian flipped them and finished inside him. “Not much now, no.”
Because Mo Guan Shan still has his days when it feels like his insides are slowly but surely turning cold, chest heavy and hollow at the same time. They both do. And He Tian can’t pretend he can chase them all away any more than Mo Guan Shan can keep He Tian’s at bay. But best believe He Tian is damn well sure as fuck always gonna try his level best to pull Mo Guan Shan out of it just as he does to him. Every time.
“Guess you no longer like me then, huh.”
He Tian scoffs—almost laughs—at the absurdity of the mere idea. See? Didn’t he say Mo Guan Shan is quiet the comedian?
“Again, on the contrary, Little Mo.” He Tian turns on his side, pulls Mo Guan Shan impossibly closer against him so they’re chest to chest, and slots a leg in between Mo Guan Shan’s. In response, an arm curls tight around his back, a hand pressed between skin and cotton sheets, the other placed over He Tian’s chest, and it’s like slotting two puzzle pieces together. Perfectly. “I really, very much like you. Love you even.”
Mo Guan Shan sighs, tucks his face where He Tian’s neck and shoulder meets. He inhales, revelling in the smell of sex, sweat, and something distinctively He Tian—dark and dangerous and safe.
“Sap.” Because He Tian, Mo Guan Shan knows, for all his faults, never lies. “You said you like sad things.”
“No. I said I like you. Just you.” He Tian says. “I love you.”
The words are said with a tone of unquestionable certainty. Just like all the other times he’s said them and all the other times they will leave He Tian’s lips. Always. Without question.
In whatever state you are, I will always like, want, need, love, everything you.
Mo Guan Shan just hums, pressing his lips tenderly at He Tian’s pulse one, two, three times.
He Tian clutches at the palm resting over his heart. It’s all the answer he needs.

Outside the Office Part Thirteen

Feedback is always appreciated!
I perched on the counter as I sipped my orange juice. I had the perfect view of my Valentino make breakfast for us. Watching him cook was truly a sight to behold. He moved about the kitchen with a comfort that stemmed only from hours and hours of time measuring and mixing the ingredients together. It never ceased to amaze me that one of the most powerful Overlords in Hell, let alone Valentino himself, would have such a talent.
He caught me watching him and broke into a smile as he leaned over and pressed a warm plate into my hands. “Here, my love, eat now, while it’s hot.”
Famished, I polished off the cheesy eggs and strawberry waffles in record time, setting my plate in the sink as he enjoyed his own breakfast.
His eyes met mine and he studied me with such intensity that I felt myself squirm under his gaze. “Do you want more? Because I can make more. Twenty five hours is a long time to go without food or fluids. And the little bit I got in you wasn’t nearly enough to make a difference.”
Without waiting for an answer, he handed me a bottle of water and a bottle of Sweet Sixteen. “Drink both of these before you leave this kitchen.”
I accepted and took a sip of water, the sweetness washing over my tongue. I gulped it down in a few moments.
“I want a shower and to stretch my body before I go anywhere. What’s the plan for tonight anyway? And what happened after the interview aired?” I asked as I cracked open the bottle of Sweet Sixteen and began to sip on that as well.
Valentino shrugged but didn’t quite meet my eye. “Nothing we can’t handle, and that’s all I can tell you.” He stepped forward and cupped my chin, “but remember my love, you are safe and can move freely while you’re with us. We will protect you, no matter where you are.” His lips touched mine and he pulled me into his arms, kissing down my body.
I gasped and leaned in, the feeling of desire shooting through me like a white hot lightning bolt. I wrapped my arms around his neck, opened my mouth to beg for him. He cut me off with another kiss, his hands slowly making their way down my body, his finger undoing the top button of my pajama shirt.
“Princesa,” he muttered softly, “I…”
The shrieking of his phone interrupted whatever he was about to say. In an instant, his attitude changed from soft and lovey, to the cold, hard Overlord I had seen in his studio.
“Fuck,” Valentino spat.
He answered his phone with such rage that I felt bad for the person on the other end of the line. Several curses, accusations of incompetency and an sharply pressed hang up button later, Valentino turned to me, his expression awash in annoyance and anger.
“I need to go to work. It isn’t negotiable. But before I leave, ground rules to keep you safe. Are you listening, princessa?”
I nodded and he took the last bite of his now cold breakfast, dropped his own plate in the sink, and added in the rest of the dirty dishes as he spoke.
“You can be here on your own. You can walk into Vox’s, Velvette’s studio or even mine freely if needed but come find one of us immediately upon your arrival. Vox’s cameras are good, but physically making us aware of your presence is even better. No harm will come to you in here, we are simply being…extra cautious. Alright, princessa?”
I didn’t want him to leave, and I was sure my expression gave that away. He leaned forward and gently kissed my forehead.
“I’m so sorry, mi amor. I’ll be back tonight,  I promise.”
He kissed me again and he was gone out the door, leaving me with a belly full of butterflies and a strange sense of unease.
Without his presence, I made the executive decision that a shower was next on my list. Between the hot water and solid twenty minutes of stretching, I was back to feeling almost better than my usual self by the time I put on a clean pair of pajamas and made my way downstairs to see Velvette. Truth be told, I was eager to start to slip back into my usual routine.
I found her right away, standing amongst piles of fabric as she sketched in her notebook. I called to her and her head shot up. She rushed over and wrapped me in the tightest hug she had ever offered.
“Reader. Oh thank god. I wasn’t, Val said…” her voice trailed off and she shook her head and seemed to be trying to bite back words. “No matter. I’m glad you’re okay. Come on, let’s get you ready for tonight.”
I followed her across the studio and took my usual spot in front of her vanity.
“Yeah, what are we doing exactly? Do we have a game plan?” I asked.
Velvette ran a comb through my hair as she answered. “What we do every night, Princess. Go out, enforce our contracts, make deals, collect souls, show off our power, dance and drink.”
Collect souls? What was she talking about? I tried to think back on the nightly routine. Sure, there were plenty I couldn’t quite remember but not once did I recall seeing any of them do more than dance and drink. Unless…
Unless that was what they did when one of them stepped away from the table, and vanished out of sight for hours?
“Except for the dancing and drinking, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I said finally.
Velvette laughed, but her expression quickly sobered up when she realized I was serious. “Oh shit. You really didn’t know?” She busied herself with a hair dryer, pulling and drying my hair in strips and seconds as she explained. “We go out every night to work, babe. Some of our best deals come from desperate souls in the clubs on Earth. Or we enforce our contracts in place, if needed. We don’t go out every single night just for fun, though it is an added bonus.” She paused and turned off the hair dryer for a moment.
I looked at her through the reflection in the mirror. She looked thoughtful as she carefully considered her next words.
“If you’re that curious on how it works, stick next to me tonight. I’ll show you how it's done,” she said finally. “Maybe if we take the mystery out of it it won’t be such a big deal to you. About time you started to learn anyway. So it’s settled! Tonight, you go out with me.”
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and her fingers flew across the keyboard. She grinned and picked the hairdryer back up.
“There. I told Valentino. Now sit still- I have a lot of work to do.”
To the best of my ability, I bit back unease that came with her decision. Lucifer had mentioned that I would eventually be responsible for distributing contracts and owning souls, and as much as Vox and Velvette made it seem like no big deal, the idea of owning a soul didn’t sit right with me. On the other hand, it couldn’t hurt to learn more about the process- to see what exactly the whole thing was all about. After all, it wasn’t like I would be offering a contract tonight- I would be there merely to observe.
One careful application of makeup, tight low riding jeans and a steller cut off, deep red shirt paired with solid black kitten heels later, I paced in the apartment, waiting impatiently for Valentino and Vox to come home. Valentino had texted me earlier, saying he would be home by eight and already it was eight thirty.
Velvette, ever so used to their tardiness, sat with her legs tucked up on the couch and gave me an amused look.
“Just chill. They’ll be home soon enough. It’s been a long fucking day babe, and Val literally hasn’t been in the studio working full time since everything went down.” She punched away on her phone. “Take a breath, they’ll be home soon enough.”
Instead, I paced until finally, finally, the elevator door opened and both Vox and Valentino stepped out. I almost jumped into Valentino’s arms, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Princessa, what’s wrong?” Valentino asked, alarm in his voice as he held me. “You looked panicked. Did something happen?”
“You two are late, that’s what happened.” Velvette said, standing up and walking over to Vox, placing a kiss on his cheek. “Let a girl know next time, wouldn’t you?”
Vox leaned in and kissed her. “Sorry babe. It’s been a long day. The phones would not stop ringing- it seems everyone has to have an opinion on the new princess. Not that their opinions matter, but as a company it’s good to gauge the public’s mood.”
“And what is that mood?” I asked.
Valentino lightly rested his head on my shoulder and kissed my neck. “It doesn’t matter either way, mi amor. You’re safe and protected with us. Come on now, I made reservations at that Italian place you adore so very much.”
“Finally. I’m starving. Let’s go!” Velvette exclaimed. She grabbed onto Voc and yanked him into the elevator. “We don’t have all night!”
Once we were in the limo, I curled up against Valentino. It had been almost a week since the incident in his studio, almost a week since we’d been out in public. As if he sensed my nerves, Valentino gently rubbed my back as he clicked through his phone, pausing here and there to look down at me.
“You have no reason to be afraid, mi amor,” he said finally. “You are safe, you are healed and physically you’re at your peak. Just smile, and hold hands with me. You are one of us now, more than ever. No one, and I do mean no one, would dare to touch you.”
“Not knowing is the worst part of this whole thing,” I responded softly. “I can only imagine the worst- pitchforks and red demons standing in line for a chance at making their opinion on me known.”
That elected a laugh from the three of them and Valentino kissed the top of my head.
“Mi amor, you have a vivid imagination.”
“She has a valid point though,” Velvette added, glancing over at us, “when we don’t know the reality, our minds tend to make things worse than they actually are. So, maybe stop try to talk her down until she sees the action herself?”
Valentino grimaced but leaned down and kissed my forehead as the limo rolled to a stop. “Come, come love.” His hand fell into mine and his voice dropped. “You are the Princess of Hell. Show no fear.”
Vox and Velvette opened the door and the moment it swung open, I could hear the chatter of frantic voices, desperate, angry, eager. The flashing of lights burst through the open door like fireworks. Vox and Velvette stepped out first, and Valentino gently nudged me forward, his hand firmly in mine.
The noise exploded as I stepped out of the limo. Valentino stepped in front of me and pulled me through the pathway that cleared as if by magic at his presence.
“She is with the V’s. Fuck.” I heard a voice curse.
Valentino shot a lethal glance at the crowd. Demons scurried away under his gaze and in moments, we were inside the silence of the restaurant.
The patrons inside paused and stared in awed silence as we walked back to our usual spot, the door closing behind us, leaving only silence in the room.
“Exhale.  Baby. I can hear your heart pounding from across the room,” Valentino said gently, pulling my chair out for me.
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding and sank down into the chair. Dinner sat in front of me, steam rising from the pile of pasta. Any feeling of hunger had vanished the moment I saw that crowd and it was all I could do to simply breathe.
“You have to eat, dollface.” Valentino prompted, pouring me a glass of wine and pressing it into my hands. “Demon’s are only expressing their feelings, no one touched you. You saw how they parted the moment Vox stepped onto the pavement.”
“And if you listened to their chanting, it's not all bad. It’s just chaotic. I mean, Reader, this is the biggest change in hell since, well, the beginning of time.” Velvette added. “Honestly, if anyone touched you, Lucifer would be out here culling demons left and right. At the moment, demons are just adjusting and well…they tend to be slow to accept change.”
“So eat, Princessa, please. I need you on the top of your game tonight- especially if you’re tagging along with Velvette.” Valentino added as he gave Velvette a disapproving look. “You know, I wanted to take her to Earth first.”
I reluctantly took a sip of wine and a bite of my dinner, which quickly turned into two bites. I had forgotten until that very moment just how delicious their pasta dishes tasted.
Velvette rolled her eyes and pointed a forkful of fettuccine at him. “Your contracts will scare the shit out of her. At least mine are more morally justifiable.” She turned her attention to me, “and before you ask questions, take a deep breath, shut your mouth and file them in the “ask later” category. Because we’re going to have a good time tonight, and I want you to experience a soul contract first hand before I fuck things up trying to explain it.”
I nodded with my mouthful and she gave me a winning smile. “Atta girl. Trust me, we’re going to have a good time tonight, protesters be damned.”
“Demonstrators might be a better word,” Vox said thoughtfully, “They’re not all mad and the word protestors definitely has a negative implication.”
“I prefer the term troublemaker, honestly. Regardless of their opinion, they’re loud and they’re making Reader uncomfortable. Hell isn’t a democracy, and it never will be. So what is the point of causing all these issues? They have to know they’re not going to change anything and even with Lucifer’s broadcast, I doubt they understand the true implication behind the slaughter of the former angelic military unit. Honestly, I doubt any of these demons have enough braincells to put together a simple cause and event situation.” Valentino added.
I continued to eat, listening quietly as they discussed the broadcast Lucifer put out. I hadn’t yet seen it myself and it seemed as though being down and out for so many hours caused me to miss a thing or two. I wondered if they would let me watch it, and figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.
“Can I see it? Lucifer’s part, I mean?” I asked finally.
I watched Valentino survey what little was left on my plate and then he pulled out his phone. “Keep the volume low. Put captions on if you need to, that’s how low I want it,” he instructed as he scrolled through my part and handed me the paused screen, Lucifer frozen next to Vox. “Just press play.”
I leaned back in my chair and hit the play button. On the screen, Vox and Lucifer exchanged pleasant words before Vox’s line of questioning began. Unlike his gentle tone with me, Vox’s voice was harsher, much more serious and his line of questioning sharp and precise. To Lucifer’s credit, he never once waived as he re-explained my words, adding details even I hadn’t known about the overarching issue, the power shifts in heaven, and the alleged renegotiation that was going to happen. The screen went black as the segment ended and I handed Valentino back his phone.
“I don’t understand why people are so upset, am I missing something?” I asked, “I mean, Lucifer literally said he would do everything in his power to renegotiate a similar, if not identical, contract with the new leaders.”
“You’re not taking into account eons of demons comfortable with the power structure now having their very lives threatened with unyielding extermination, and the anger as a former exorcist angel, let alone the former leader's daughter, takes her place closest in line to the throne should Lucifer step down. They’re afraid you’ll simply open the floodgates for angels to kill, and hell as they know it will be destroyed. And those who are angriest seem to have missed the part where it wasn’t your or Lucifer’s decision to null and void the contract. I’d also like to point out he didn’t officially either confirm or deny its nullification either, the population in hell just decided that’s what he said.” Velvette explained, taking a sip of her wine and swirling it before downing the rest of the cup. “Honestly, Val has a point about the stupidity of most demonkind.”
“Stupidity that could endanger you, princessa. But I want to be sure you understand it’s nothing you did personally, it's fear igniting this chaos,” Valentino added, grasping my hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. “Things will settle with time and resolution, but for now the best way to handle their lashing out is to act as though you have no fear. As if you are above them. And the best way to handle their fear? Act as though you have none- show them what the future leader of Hell looks like.” He stood up and offered his hand to me, “come, princessa. Let us continue with our night.”
Another raging crowd waited for us outside the restaurant. Once again, they spit in half as we walked though and climbed into the limo. I was expecting the same when we pulled up to Valentino’s club, but to my surprise, I saw no one. When I questioned it, Valentino simply gave me a smile and squeezed my hand, leading me inside.
We sat together at the table, sipping on drinks and talking until Velvette stood up and looked to Valentino. He nodded to her and she looked at me, taking my hand and tugging me towards the back of the club. From around her neck, she lifted the same tiny silver V I wore around mine and pressed it to a dark spot on the wall.
The wall slid and she turned the knob of the formality concealed door, stepping inside. Behind us, I heard the wall slide closed and Velvette shut the door. Around the room, Valentino’s face was plastered on the walls in various photos, many with his signature scrawled across the bottom.  The rest of the room held thoughtfully arranged office furniture and couches that created a neat mix of cozy and corporate.
Velvette walked across the room and from the farthest desk, she knelt down, pressing her palm to the underside. A drawer popped open, holding nothing but a small, leather bound silver and blue book. She picked it up and closed the door before coming back to where I stood, watching.
“Follow me. And do nothing but observe what you see. Don’t speak otherwise, not even to ask a question- save them for after. I’m trusting you here, Reader,” she said simply as she opened the book.
Her voice filled the air, melodic words that seemed to flow in a current of power. A rip opened in the middle of the room, a sharp, jagged gash that split the air in two. Wordlessly, she stepped into it and I followed, the cool air of a rainy spring night blowing across our faces. Around us, trees swayed softly in the dark. I blinked as my eyes adjusted to the light. For a fraction of a second, everything felt peaceful.
And then I saw it.
A car, or what was left of it, lay on its top, all four wheels facing the inky black sky. The concrete under our feet was slick, and with each step, my heels cracked against broken glass. I turned to Velvette but she raised her hand, and shook her head as she motioned for silence.
A noise, barely escaped into the night. A soft groan of pain.
My heart raced, and every inch of me wanted to run towards the accident,  to do anything I could to help. Velvette gave me a look and shook her head, motioning for me to follow her. She knelt next to what remained of the driver's side window. I bent down next to her, and surveyed the scene inside.
The sight that greeted me turned my stomach. The remains of what used to be humans, teenagers, based on what I could make out,  were scattered throughout the car. Blood leaked and streaked the twisted remains of metal and cloth, leaving behind a gruesome scene of death.
“Please, help!” The girl in the driver's seat begged as Velvette knelt next to her. “My friends need help!”
Velvette didn’t react. Instead, she began to speak, slowly and clearly. “Your friends are gone, their souls have passed onto heaven. You are the only one who remains here, and in moments you will be gone as well, your soul bound straight down to the fiery inner circles of hell.” Her voice grew deeper, darker, and eerily calm as she continued. “You are  the reason these souls crossed so damn early. You chose your fate the moment you sat in this seat tonight.”
“No, please! I’m sorry!” The girl begged. The desperation in her voice, the understanding that she made a decision she could never undo dripped with each word.
Velvette acted as if she hadn’t heard her. “You had other options. You didn’t need to drive tonight, did you? You could have called for a ride, you could have taken your younger brother up on his offer to take you home, but you didn’t. You chose to take the role of Death, and four souls are gone because of your selfish decision. They trusted you- and you betrayed them. And now your soul belongs to Hell for all eternity, burning in the knowledge that you killed those who you loved the most.”
The girl moaned, her wailing filling the night with a soul splitting shriek. In the far distance, sirens wailed.
“One of two things is about to happen. When you die, and make no mistake,  you will die, in the next few moments, and your soul will be cast straight into hell.” Velvette paused for a moment before continuing.  “This is where I offer you a choice. You can arrive in hell, with no home, no friends, and no control over the rest of your existence. Or, you can come with me, and I will ensure that when you arrive in hell, the Sin who lays claim to your being does not collect. Instead, I am offering you a safer landing, a chance to bypass that Sin and arrive with the security of shelter, a career, and the things you need to create a better existence. All I ask for this kindness is ownership of your eternal soul.” She leaned closer to the girl. “In moments, you will die. You can accept my offer, or land in hell penniless, without a friend in the world. The decision is yours. Choose carefully.”
Blood appeared on the edge of the girl's mouth, trickling out between her broken teeth.
“You don’t have much time.” Velvette said calmly. “Choose. The sin? Or me?”
The girl’s voice broke, and her body made an inhuman gurgle. She reached out and touched Velvette’s hand.
Velvette seemed to understand.  “Do you, Blythe Elaine Anisley, understand that you are about to die?”
The choked gurgle of a yes sputtered out.
“Do you agree to bypass the admission of hell through the Sin to which you are assigned and give to me full and complete ownership of your soul, in exchange for stability, a career and shelter, among others which will be read to you momentarily in my contract?”
Another sputtered yes. The sirens grew closer now and another type of darkness seemed to hug the scene. Velvette’s voice filled the night as she read aloud her short contract, outlining the promises she made above, along with a few other details. A whiteness hovered above the girl’s body as any life that remained drained away. In the air, a contract floated beside a calligraphy pen. The whiteness began to form the shape of the body it appeared above, and it scrawled its signature across the paper. Instantly, the contract and pen vanished, and the signor screamed as it fully formed the shape of its human body before plunging into the ground, vanishing from sight, leaving only its broken body behind.
Velvette stood up turned as she walked away from the scene. She paused and took my hand,  gently pulling me along with her. Behind us, flashes of emergency lights, reds, blues, whites illuminated the scene as Velvette and I stepped off into the trees. As the screaming of the sirens roared, she opened the book and the rift appeared, just as it had before. Together, we stepped back into Valentino’s office, a final flash of red and the earth shattering scream at the realization of loss snuck through before portal closed behind us.
I sank into the office chair, my entire body shaking. Gore wasn’t unknown to me, and I had taken enough medical classes and seen enough injuries to be able to stomach blood and broken bodies. But the unfair tragedy of the scene turned my stomach harder than anything I had ever witnessed.
Velvette turned to me, seeming pleased, as though we had simply taken a trip to the mall. “That went well!” She eyed me. “You look like shit.  Alright, we’re home now, ask the questions you seem to so desperately have.”
I swallowed back the bitter taste that rose in the back of my throat. I could feel my voice start to rise. “Why is she going to hell and not her friends? Why did you only offer the contract to her, and not to them? They made the decision to get in the car with her! Why, why the fuck did this happen in the first place?” I exhaled slowly, trying to take a breath and calm myself. “Fuck!”
Velvette looked unfazed by my reaction and propped herself up on the desk. “Let me clarify a few things. When a soul who is hellbound dies, they arrive in hell without a single thing to their name. Based on the sin they committed to send them here, they are assigned to a ring of hell ruled by that particular sin.” She paused for a moment. “You do know about the Seven Sins, right?”
The Sins. I had read about them earlier on my arrival. Each one of them- Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth, ruled over their individual circle within the seven circles of hell. Lucifer sat above them, ruling them all. I knew they handled contractless souls, and assigned them to their ring of hell.
Velvette seemed satisfied and continued her explanation. “In this case, Blythe drank, way too much, and decided it was still a fantastic idea to drive her friends home. Inebriated by the alcohol, she drove too fast on a dark and slippery road, crashed her car and killed every one of her friends, and herself. Her friends, who, in as much as it was their bad decision, trusted her with their lives. And she killed them. The moment she made the decision to drink and drive, she accepted responsibility for their lives and hers, she committed a Sin. Which Sin is a bit tricky- you’ve got Greed in there, definitely. Sloth will lay a claim, because she refused to take the extra steps to protect herself and her friends, and I could even argue that Pride would try to weasel his way in.  If she had refused my deal- which she could have- she would have been thrust into a waiting area where the sins would have debated, made deals, and hashed out where she would go, and then she would arrive in her assigned ring penniless, without a single bit of hope, no chance for self forgiveness, and forever emblazoned with the guilt that she killed her friends. She would wander, tortured, until she met the wrong demon, or ceased to exist. I stepped in, and when she arrived in my studio just moments ago, she was met with the kindness of other souls, my employees who have been in her position, or similar. Those who also live with the guilt that she will live with for all eternity, and have found a way to manage themselves.  I provided her an immediate sense of solidarity, and she’ll work as one of my girls until she meets her ultimate demise. Or until I do. Much more likely hers comes first.”
“How did you know this was going to happen?” I demanded. “Why didn’t you try to stop it?”
“I didn’t know. My god Reader, I can’t see the future, nor I don’t have any control over the input or outcomes of these situations.  I simply pulled up in Vox’s database where all the souls currently set to descend into hell within ten minutes were located, and made a decision based on the information available. In my line of work, I usually look for souls with promise-  typically younger souls who made the worst possible decision. Inebriated drivers like tonight, sorority girls, show offy teenagers. Some may disagree, but I don’t think stupid decisions made by the younger crowd always deserve to be thrust in front of the Sins before living a life of torture and poverty. Especially when their friends ascended into heaven- which answers the question, why didn’t I offer them all contracts. The rest of them did nothing wrong, except be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Vel, that was hard to watch.” I said softly. “I understand why you chose it, that her signing to you was a better choice than…the other. But still…”
Her voice softened a bit. “It always is. But at the end of the day, you’re doing a kindness. Putting a soul in front of even one of the Sins…” she shivered. “Is punishment unto itself.”
If what Velvette had said to Blythe was true, the cruelty she would face at their hands gave truth to Velvette’s view that her contract was doing a soul a kindness. To arrive somewhere new, only to be  assigned someone's responsibility before being cast out into the streets was a level of evil I couldn’t have imagined. And it seemed as though even though Velvette stepped in, and took ownership…she provided the best possible outcome.
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and I jumped. Velvette rolled her eyes at me and yelled to the door.  “Come in Val, we’re back.”
I heard the key in the door handle jingle and Valentino and Vox walked in.
“How’d it go sweetheart?” Vox asked, leaning over and kissing her cheek.
“As usual. Another soul ripe for the picking is now sitting in my studio, and another burst of power for us,” Velvette answered casually. She looked at me and nodded, “this one handled it great. Wasn’t a pretty scene either. First one is always the worst.” She jumped down from the desk and walked over to Vox, her harsh expression melting away as she fell into his outstretched arms, laying her head against him.
Vox kissed the top of her head as he held her, “you did a good job tonight, babe.”
“Princessa.”
Valentino’s voice drew my attention away from them. He walked over to me and gently kissed me. He frowned and rested the back of his hand on my cheek.
“Princess, you’re pale. Let’s get you home, you’ve had a long day- long several days. I’ve done what needed to be done for the night. Vox, Vel?”
“Yeah, I’m set.” Vox said, leaning against the open door, grinning, “I had a productive night. Between the three of us and our newest contract, there should be less than zero issues.”
Valentino scooped me up in his arms and kissed me softly. “Let’s go home then, mi amor.”

betcha thought u saw the last of me huh
been in a major writing slump for the past year, and now and conquering my writing slumo to hopefully get over all of my other ones so here u go this is inspired by a post a long time ago that i can’t find ab everyone falling back into old habits at the farm house and i can’t remember if it was april or casey who set them into shape but i needed an excuse to make it faggy
the farmhouse itself was nothing like the sewers. warm wooden walls, sunlit windows, and soft carpet were a very dramatic change from the damp, cold walls of the sewer, made colder by the presences within them.

it was a change, for sure, but raph couldn’t help but think it was a welcome one.

everyone could tell something had changed between them, between everyone. eggshells littered the floorboards during short, awkward conversations, before the occupants retreated back to their designated spaces.

some things lingered, though. what is it that people say—it takes twenty one days to form a habit? well, raph has been doing this for nineteen years, so beat that. he’s spent almost two decades walking on autopilot, not thinking twice about anything until it became a threat, picking up after everyone, cooking, cleaning. the list carried on.

and for the better part of two decades, his siblings had accepted that. some smart people online can say whatever they want, but a few weeks in the farmhouse can’t undo years of habit. but it was fine. it was fine if he spent a good few hours of his day cleaning up mikey’s paint. it was fine if donnie’s gadgets were scattered across the table. it was fine if leo left dishes in the sink from a meal he couldn’t be bothered to share.

it was fine.

raph was fine.

his brain woke him up early. it always did. he had to make breakfast and clean up the mess everyone probably made after he turned in for the night, and donnie probably hasn’t showered in awhile, so he needs to get on that and-

“you’re thinking too loud.” a voice grumbled from below him. that was odd. casey was never up this early. that was new. “quit it.”

“…sorry.” raph muttered, lifting his head from casey’s chest. that was relatively new too. he saw the way mikey looked at them, like he knew something they didn’t. he and casey were old friends, even if the bed thing was new. “i didn’t know you were up.”

“oh, im up alright. i’m up to make sure that you aren’t.”

“huh?” he asked, his eyes narrowing in confusion as he glanced up at casey’s face. his hair was tousled with sleep, leaving his eyes actually visible in the soft light of dawn. the warm sun hit the brown irises perfectly, casting them in honey.

“you heard me.” casey yawned, tossing a tan arm over his eyes. the long, thick strands of his uncut hair splayed across the pillow in tendrils. slithering out across the cotton to root their host into the mattress. “you’re sleeping in.”

that’s new too.

his mind screamed in protest. he didn’t do well with change; he never had. that was his routine—his new one. he woke up early, made breakfast, ate as much as his body would allow him, and then some, and then cleaned. leo would wake up next, take his fill, not clean his plate, and fuck off to god knows where. then mikey would emerge, and then donnie. april came down a few hours later, and then finally casey would wake up. it was never like this; he was never last.

some part of him, deep inside his psyche, begged for a break. sleeping in would be nice. he couldn’t think of a place he’d rather be than right here—casey’s arm wrapped around his shoulder, holding his head against the soft flesh of his stomach while absolutely shrouded in blankets. he hadn’t been this comfortable in years.

he was wasting time. dad never liked waiting for breakfast.

dad wasn’t here, and frankly, he could go fuck himself.

it took twenty-one days to form a habit. how long does it take to break one?

without a word, raph settled back into casey’s body and closed his eyes.

—:—

the next time he woke up, casey was still under him. the sun was higher in the sky, now painting the walls in golden rays as opposed to the vibrant pinks and blues of dawn. his friend's hand ran across the ridges of his shell, rendering him practically immobile. his limbs were loose with contentment, and his vision was hazy as he flicked his eyes around the room.

“mornin’. again.” casey grinned down at him, that gap-toothed smile wide, and pleased with his own poor joke. his fingers never stopped their soothing motions on his carapace, though, so raph decided to let it go.

his eyelids felt heavy as he forced them to stay open, blinking sleep away while flexing his body. every finger, every toe, arms, legs, and then finally his neck as he lifted his head from casey’s warmth.

“what time is it?” he asked, pushing his body up into a sitting position, much to his mind's dismay. everything in him was screaming to lay down again, to soak up casey’s warmth like the man was a rock in the sun. he may as well be with his body temperature.

casey helped him up, his big hands steady against his biceps as he manoeuvred raph into a sitting position in front of him. the sheets pooled around their waists as raph leaned his head against casey’s shoulder. the room was so cold now.

“c’mon.” raphs shoulder was prodded gently, and he raised his head to gaze into where casey’s eyes hid behind his hair. his voice was soft and low, like a vibration in the air.

maybe that could explain the tingling in his spine.

bare, tan feet hit the floor first, before his hand gently tugged the turtle off the mattress. still dazed with sleep, he stumbled, leaning into casey’s side to take the weight off of his unsteady legs. the stairs were the hardest to conquer, with all three of raphs fingers grasping casey’s wrist while they manoeuvred down the steps.

a muffled scolding sounded from the next room, and raph felt something inside of him freeze. it wasn’t dad splinter. splinter usually yelled, or even just spoke, but he never tried to make himself quieter. maybe the humiliation of everyone else knowing you were in trouble was part of the punishment.

“i swear to fucking god.” the voice spoke, tone controlled yet flaming. “i’m done watching him pick up after you guys. i love you, you’re my friends, but you need to get your shit together.”

his brain didn’t quite comprehend who was speaking until he heard the next voice.

“it’s not that big of a deal.” leo’s familiar tone punctured the air. raph refused to allow the sound to stab him like the knife it always was. “he’s done it forever! i’m sure he’s used to it by now!”

“that doesn’t mean it’s fine, leo!”

“april, w-we’re all getting better…aren’t we? i mean, we clean up after ourselves decently...”

“no, the house is clean because raph is still cleaning up after you guys like he’s your mom!”

casey’s hand tightened a fraction on his shoulder, and he looked back down at him with a grin. “how about we go outside, yeah? it’s s’posed to be real nice out.”

before raph could complain or comply, he was already being led in the other direction, hearing the voices fade back out. he opened his mouth, and casey cut him off. “i know you’re hungry. i’ll getcha something. wait outside for me? ‘kay?”

and like that, he was gone. the door closed behind him as raph turned his eyes to the tree line, plush with vibrant leaves and dark soil. remnants of dew still clung to the blades of grass, shining brightly in the light of the sun.

the wood of the patio was warm against his feet, and he leaned his elbows to the railing, licking his eyes into the woods. his eyes were still heavy, and the place around his neck where casey’s arm previously lay left a pleasant scorch sinking into his skin. still, the voices from inside bounced in his skull. at least the yelling was familiar.

somethings never change.

Secrets Above the Stairs
Tumblr media
->Pairing: Childhood Bestfriend!Reader x Rafe
->Summary: Rafe comes to you distraught with a confession after helping his dad commit a crime.
->Warnings/Tags: Vulnerable!Rafe, mentions of doing coke lol, angst
->A/n: This is incredibly short, but I loved writing it. I am such a whore for comforting the vulnerable. Anyway, this takes place during Season 2, episode 2 when Ward kills Gavin bc he's blackmailing him and then comes home and asks for Rafe's help to get rid of the body.
First time sharing my writing, pls be nice <;3.
Tumblr media
Your eyes burn at the bright light in contrast to the dark room that you had previously been asleep in. Your phone is dinging with messages that you figure you’ll ignore and read in the morning, until the obnoxious ringer goes off indicating you’re getting a phone call.
‘My fucking god.
You snatch the phone into your hand and squint your eyes enough so you can see the answer button without bothering to look at who was calling. Your eyelids scratch against your eyes like sandpaper, and you can’t fight the heaviness weighing them down.
You try to say something into the phone but all that comes out is a gravelly murmur.
“Can I-,” There’s a short sniffle, “Can I come up to your room?” His octave is low and soft, if he was anyone else you would have second guessed who was calling.
Rafe’s distraught voice pumped adrenaline into your body, forcing you to sit up in bed.
“Are you okay?”
“I just- I need to come up. You’re home, yeah?”
“Yeah, I’m coming.” Grabbing pants wasn’t of importance to you at the moment, mostly because you didn’t want to dig around your drawers to find something and waste more time. You were just glad tonight was one of the nights you decided to wear an oversized t-shirt to bed.
You hurry down the stairs, using your phone screen as a flashlight to find the steps and illuminate the space between the halls and door. The metal handle is just as cold as the tiles on the floor, and as goosebumps raise all over your body, you're desperate to get him to your room so you can jump back into your warm covers.
Your selfish desire ceases the second you open the door. Rafe Cameron, the usual cocky but otherwise unemotional boy you were once bonded with, is at your doorstep with wet cheeks and a heavy expression that left you with about a hundred thoughts running through your mind of what could have happened. You pull the door further open, and he walks in past you. The moonlight disappears as you close the entrance, leaving you in pitch black. You wait to ask any questions till you’ve made it to your bedroom.
“This w—” You started to whisper.
“I remember where it is.”
You momentarily forget that this used to be a second home to him. He knows how many steps lead up to your second floor, and which dishes are in which cabinet. He knows that you wear little to nothing at nighttime because your room is hotter than the rest of the house, he knows which part of the couch you prefer to lay on, and most of all, he knows you’re the only one aware of the kind of person his dad is.
You get to the top of the stairs and after a few more steps and turns, you push your door open and close it behind him. After turning on your lamp, your stomach sinks at the sight of your former best friends' dazed expression and nervous fidgeting. You barely manage to suppress the urge to wrap your arms around him, instead you wrap them around yourself and sit down on the edge of the bed.
“What’s going on?”
“I haven’t been in here since freshmen year of high school.” He says flatly, looking around the dimly lit room. The rays of orange from your lamp display across the walls and furniture.
He sounds distant when he speaks, and your arms tighten around your torso. Rafe Cameron was not one to be fazed. At least not the one you knew. Not your Rafe. You heard about his short temper and drug habits only after the two of you had stopped hanging out. You saw him at a party last summer with a rolled-up bill up his nose sniffing white lines from a table. Maybe you should have intervened then, but you weren’t sure what your place was in his life anymore.
“Yeah, I know,” You clear your throat, “Are you gonna talk to me?"
“I have this- this... stuff that I’m dealing with. And uh, I don’t think I can tell anyone else. I’m not even sure I should tell you.” He sits down beside you and curiosity fills your mind.
“Rafe,” you tuck a leg underneath yourself and adjust so your body is facing him, “what happened?”
In this moment, you weren’t just ex-friends who grew apart over the years, making small talk in the name of nostalgia. In this moment, you’re the kids cannonballing into your pool at the family barbeque, the teenagers sneaking alcohol from your parents’ liquor cabinet just to get drunk in your room, the friends who spent every day together. In this moment, you never grew apart and you still understood each other.
“I did something. And- and I- I did it to protect my dad, you know? But someone knew. He fucking knew I did it and he was trying to blackmail my dad for money. And so, he—”
“What’d he do? What did you do?”
His blue eyes observe your face like he’s trying to determine his next words. You want him to talk to you, so you lean closer to put a hand on his knee for support.
“He killed our pilot, Gavin. He asked me to help him-” He lets out a shaky breath as he rubs his face, like he's trying to wake up from a nightmare. “Help him get rid of it.”
“Did you…?”
Even with him turning away, you see his eyes moisten. He opens his mouth like he's about to answer but instead, he clenches his jaw shut and looks up to the ceiling. Your face twists with concern at his reaction, but you don't want to say anything else until he answers.
“I did, Y/n.” His voice cracked.
You didn’t know what to say. You wanted to criticize Ward or ask what the hell happened to him after you stopped being friends, but neither would do him any good. Instead, you sigh and give in to the urge telling you to pull him into you. You wonder why he didn't go to Topper or Kelce; you never spotted him in public without one of them at his side. But as he embraces you tightly, you quickly realize what he wants is comfort and you wince at the sobs that start to erupt out of him. In between sniffles, he starts to tell you everything. Not just about what his dad did tonight, but about what he did that led to it in the first place; he killed a cop.
“I think there might be something wrong with me.”
Might is an understatement.
“That is some pretty fucked up stuff, Rafe.”
“I need you. I don’t know how to fix this on my own.” He lifts his head up. His face is only an inch away from yours, you can feel his warm breath on your skin as his eyes gaze into yours like he’s searching for something.
“Okay,” You put your hands on his shoulders to create space between you, “Stay here tonight. I’ll help you. We’ll fix it.”

[8:23pm kst, 230417, wc:435]
(content warning: hobi’s enlistment)
“Yoonmi,” Hoseok poked his head into the kitchen to find her focused on cooking them dinner, “you know that this is all unnecessary, right? I would have been fine with just takeout or something.”
The younger girl looked up at him, face scrunched in a mix of mock anger and offence, “No, you’re getting a nice home cooked meal for dinner and for breakfast tomorrow, and you’re not gonna go to your camp alone tomorrow.”
“My manager is driving me.”
Upon her sharp look, Hoseok just raised his hands in surrender and chuckled. He made his way to the sink to wash the dishes he knew she wouldn’t need anymore. It was quick, since Yoonmi was efficient with the materials she used for cooking, so he set the table for the two of them as well.
Even then, he finished just as she started grilling the meat and plating the kimchi fried rice. She put her complete focus and care into fixing up food for him despite the fact that she was in the middle of her midterms.
“Oppa, please stop staring at me,” she came to the dining table to place the dish of grilled beef in front of him. “I feel like I’m under a microscope.”
He chuckled and got up to carry the—much heavier—big bowl of kimchi fried rice for her, “Just taking you in, makdungie. I finally get it when Jin hyung said his last day before entrance was a day he’ll vividly remember.”
He came back to find her giving him her own solid stare. He laughed at her and poked her forehead, just between her eyebrows, as soon as he set the fried rice down on the table. This made her huff, which led to more of his laughter in return.
“I have to,” he defended himself while sitting across from her, “because you know how we can’t really check up on people outside camp for the first few weeks.”
One of her hands slipped from the table, tugging at the ends of her hair while he scooped some rice onto her plate. He gave her a pointed glance, silently telling her to stop the habit.
“You’re coming to my graduation, though,” she moved to place meat on his plate instead to keep her hands busy, “right?”
Hoseok smiled at her. “I already got the appropriate timing and method to file a leave from Jin hyung. All seven if us will be there, makdungie. Don’t worry.”
She smiled at him, gesturing to start eating. “I’m holding you to that. I love you, don’t forget.”
“I love you more, makdungie.”

Thorn In My Side, Rose In My Hand (Part 7)
Pairing: Rafe Cameron x Reader
Warnings:  Swearing

Word Count: 4.6K
Summary: After a frustrating argument with his dad, Rafe goes to seek comfort in Y/N’s arms. This leads to him finally asking for the moment he has been waiting for.

Tumblr media
Y/N wakes up the next morning in the Camerons’ guest bedroom. She has a slight headache from the alcohol she drank the night before. She thinks about what almost happened with Rafe and is glad he pulled away. Now, being sober, she remembers what she saw at Midsummer and finds herself upset again. They never had a chance to talk about it. Her thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the bedroom door being opened. Sarah comes in with a glass of water and Tylenol. Sarah being 14 meant that Rafe forces her to stay at a friend’s house whenever he throws a party. “Rafe told me to bring this up to you,” Sarah tells her as she hands over the things. Y/N takes the medicine, “Thanks.” “No problem. The boys are making breakfast downstairs,” Sarah informs as she walks towards the door. “And Y/N, I’m sorry about Wilson.”
After a few minutes of lying in bed, Y/N finally makes her way downstairs and greets everyone at breakfast. Everyone eats with pleasant conversation. Sarah needed to get to the Trembley’s house to babysit the kids, so Mason offered to drive her, which left Y/N and Rafe alone to do the dishes. “So what does last night mean for us?” Rafe asks, handing over a wet plate for her to dry. Y/N takes the plate and starts to dry it, “Rafe, I appreciate you waiting to kiss me, but I saw you with Elizabeth at Midsummer and I know you know how I feel about her. I know that the unconscious part of you chose her because it would hurt me. So I can’t be with you right now. I need some time.” “Okay, I get that. I’m sorry that it hurt you, I wasn’t trying to. I want to be honest and tell you we did end up kissing last night too. But we only ever made out, it never went further than that,” Rafe confesses. This eases Y/N’s mind a little, but she still needs time to figure things out, “I understand, thanks for telling me. Since we are done, I think I’m just gonna go to the beach for a bit.” She places the dish towel back onto the oven railing and heads to the guest bedroom to get her stuff.
She gets her stuff, heading back downstairs to say bye. “Can I borrow Sarah’s bike to go home? If she needs it any time soon, she can just text me and I’ll bring it over to her,” Y/N asks. Rafe looks over his shoulder at her from the sink, “Actually, hers is being tuned up at the store, so you can borrow mine. I’ll pick it up next time I come over. It should be around back near the pool.” Y/N nods her head. “Cool, thanks. See you later.”
———
Y/N got home safely and is now relaxing on the beach. She always tries to spend as much time here as she can during the summer because she feels at peace surrounded by water. She is relaxing on a water inflatable when Lacet finally makes her way to Y/N. “Look who is finally awake. It’s like three in the afternoon,” Y/N teases, shielding her eyes from the sun. Lacey groans, taking a sip from her coffee, “Shh, I still have a headache from last night. I never want to drink again.”
Y/N laughs at her friend’s misery, “I’ve heard that before. At least it sounded like you had fun last night.”
“You and I both know I like to pretend. This is totally tmi, but important to the story. I was on the toilet this morning because we both know that being hungover gives me the shits. But like I was looking at these recipes for different ways to make wellingtons and it got me thinking that we should have another girls’ dinner. Maybe tonight?”
“Oooh, I love that idea. I could go over some of my writing with you. I was able to write another chapter.”
“I cannot wait. I can make some mocktails for us. Because mama cannot do another hangover tonight. I’m gonna make a beef Wellington and a mushroom one.”
“Lol, I like the sound of that.”
“So, now that we have that out of the way. How are you feeling about Wilson?”
“I’m feeling better since last night. I mean I’m more hung up on the fact that he used me. Looking back on our relationship. I wasn’t really into him that much anyways. I think in a way, I was using him too.”
“Really? How so?”
“At first, I definitely do think that I liked him. But as I started to get to know him, I realized we weren’t good for each other and I should’ve ended it then. And yet, when I started to realize that maybe I didn’t hate Rafe, I pushed myself to be with Wilson because I didn’t want to admit it. We dated for a month, even though I knew it wouldn’t go anywhere. I definitely don’t think that what I did was as bad as what he did because I did genuinely want to explore what we could be, but I wasn’t exactly perfect in the relationship either.”
“You are right. Using Wilson to ignore your feelings about Rafe wasn’t great. But at least, you recognize that. I bet you Wilson doesn’t even think he did anything wrong.”
“True. I just want to get past the whole thing though. And before you try to shift the conversation to Rafe. I’m really not ready to talk about where we are out right now. Maybe tonight after I’ve eaten some delicious wellingtons and mocktails.”
Lacey nods, knowing her friend just needs some time to process what she is feeling. The two girls spend most of their time in the water for the rest of the day. Only making their way to Lacey’s house when the sun started setting.
———
The next day, Y/N is picking up some groceries for her mom. She rounds the corner of the aisle and accidentally hits someone else’s cart. “I’m so sorry,” she begins until she sees who she hit. “Oh, Elizabeth. How are you?” Y/N tries to be polite with the other girl. They may be rivals, but they are mostly civil with each other. “I’m pretty good. I’m sorry to hear about the break up though. What Wilson did was totally a jackass move,” Elizabeth replies sincerely. “Thanks. How are things going with you and Rafe? I saw you guys at Midsummer and he told me about you guys during the party,” she says, hoping to see if Rafe and Elizabeth’s stories match up. Elizabeth’s face turns into a slight frown, “Nothing really happened. We just made out both times. Honestly, I’m pretty sure he was just using me to distract himself from you.”
This causes surprise to cross over Y/N’s face. “Why do you think that?” she inquires with her head slightly tilted to the side. “Well, at Midsummer, I stopped making out with him because he groaned your name when I played with his hair. Then at his party, we were making out, when all of a sudden his phone started ringing. With the way he shut down the party after the call and from the rumours I heard, I’m pretty sure he dropped everything to go pick you up. Anyways I gotta go. Bye.” Y/N calls out a goodbye as Elizabeth walks away.
Rafe told her the truth after all. What is more interesting to the girl is that Rafe seems to have done the same thing she has done. She finishes up her shopping and heads back home.
———
A week has passed since Y/N’s break up, which means that school is also bound to start up again in about two weeks. Rafe is sitting in the living room, watching some random show he isn’t really paying attention to. His focus is diverted to his dad as Ward walks into the room with a huff. “Tell me why I just got a call from Mr. Porter saying that if you don’t give his son a public apologize, then he will have no choice but to file a lawsuit against you for assault,” Ward gripes to his son. Rafe honestly thought nothing more would come from the punch because it had been a week since it happened. “He was an ass to Y/N. I had to make sure he knew what happens when he messes with her.” Ward runs his hand down his face, “God, I knew that girl would get you in trouble. I want you to give that public apology tomorrow morning. You are going to do exactly what Mr. Porter says because if you don’t, then I’m not gonna clean up your mess this time. Is this understood?” Rafe agrees with the statement. He knows Y/N would prefer he takes the peaceful way out of this situation.
He thinks the conversation is over, but his dad doesn’t get up from his seat on the couch. “I also want to know why I was sent a parent approval form from Marvin to sign, so you could start an internship with him,” Ward interrogates, his voice beginning to rise. Right, Rafe had forgotten to talk to his father about this before the paperwork was sent. “Well, Marvin and I were talking a few weeks ago about his law firm. He said he needed some extra help with some organizational stuff, so I offered to help,” Rafe begins to explain. “You wanted me to figure out how to do swim team, university work and an internship at Cameron’s Development, so I thought this would be a good trial run for university and Marvin thought the same. He said if I have any trouble with handling the internship and everything else, then it would be fine if I quit. Pre-law students are always looking to intern with him.”
Ward shakes his head in disapproval, “If you wanted to intern somewhere, you should’ve just come with me. I don’t understand why you would work at a law firm. It has nothing to do with development.” “I know you have this life plan for me, but I wanted to do something for myself once. I may have been given help from Marvin to get the job. But it’s something new though and I asked for myself. I want to be able to experience other things in life other than just the development company,” Rafe clarifies to his dad. “Whatever, I’ll sign the stupid paper, but I don’t understand why the fuck you would make that choice. Why can’t you just do as you are told?” Ward complains to his son, storming off toward his office. Rafe expected a screaming match to happen between the two of them, but this felt worse somehow.
Rafe keeps trying to do what his dad wants, but even when he thinks he has it figured out, he still disappoints his dad. Instead of feeling the normal anger that would normally radiate off of him after an argument with his dad, he feels this sadness that washes over him. His mom would always push him outside of his comfort zone and it was part of the reason why he offered to help Marvin. He thought his dad would understand that and be proud of him. But like always, Ward just wants to be able to control every aspect of Rafe’s life. Ward has this life plan for Rafe that he isn’t allowed to deviate from. Rafe knows Sarah doesn’t have to listen to what her dad plans for her life. He doesn’t understand why his dad puts all this pressure on him. Rafe feels like utter crap after that conversation and there is only one person, who he knows can make him feel better. She can be found in the Y/L/N residence.
———
Y/N sits outside in the gazebo, reading her book in the hanging basket. She lifts her eyes from the page when she hears a knock from the screened door. “Hey, Y/L/N. Care for some company?” Rafe interrupts as he slowly opens the door. She could see his  watery eyes, looking like he is going to burst at any second, “Of course, what’s wrong?” She immediately wraps her arms around the boy and buries his head into her neck whilst leading him to sit on the loveseat. “Why does my dad insist on controlling my life? Why can’t I just do things for myself without him questioning everything?” Rafe cries, feeling safe to now let himself be vulnerable with the girl.
Y/N knows this is always a source of upset for him. Rafe’s relationship with Ward will never be anything like Mason and Marvin’s. “I don’t know why your dad is the way that he is. But I do know that you are not at fault for how he treats you. He has issues that he doesn’t realize he needs to fix and that is not on you,” she tries to comfort.
“I know. It’s just last time we were fighting about how I didn’t want to join the uni swim team because I wanted to focus on school and my internship. And he absolutely blew up about that. Now, I want to do a trial run to see if I can find a balance between school, work and swim team and my dad isn’t proud that I’m trying. It’s like one step forward and twenty back. I don’t know how much longer of this I can take.”
It pains Y/N to hear how much pain is in Rafe’s voice as he explains it to her, “Why didn’t you tell me things were getting this bad?”
“Last time it got this bad, you were avoiding me.”
“Oh, I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. But I’m here now.”
“I know, thank you. You are the one person that could’ve made me feel better right now, honestly.”
“I’m glad I can return the favour.”
Rafe smiles, knowing she is referring to how he took care of her after Wilson broke her heart, “Right, how are we feeling after that?”
The look in Rafe’s eyes tells Y/N that he is really asking how she feels about him, “I’m actually feeling great considering we only broke up a week ago. I think my heart was always set on someone else.”
“Oh, yeah. Well, that someone is ready for more. If you are ready too, of course.”
“Really? Would he maybe want a kiss? I wouldn’t want to take advantage of his vulnerability,” she jokes as she strokes his hair.
“He absolutely wants a kiss.”
Rafe removes his head from where it is buried in her neck and pulls Y/N into a kiss. His lips passionately move against hers and after a few seconds, his tongue makes its way into her mouth. She feels butterflies in her stomach and she hears him groan as she gently tugs his hair. Rafe removes himself from her lips and starts attacking her neck with kisses. She lets out a soft moan when he reaches her soft spot just under her ear, which causes him to grin and start to suck on the spot. Eventually, the two pull away from each other because of Rafe. He places his forehead on hers and looks into her eyes. They both have a soft grin on their lips. “Would you want to go on a date with me the day after tomorrow?” he whispers to her. They may have just been kissing, but he still is fearful that she will say no. She gives Rafe a quick kiss before answering, “Of course. I would love to.”
———
The next morning, Rafe gets up earlier than usual to make his public apology to Wilson. It wasn’t very public seeing as he was just instructed to go to Wilson’s and the only people there are Wilson, his parents and all of his dinner guests from that night. However, the Porters still had to make a ridiculously big deal about this and have Rafe make his apology on a makeshift stage and podium. “I am sorry for assaulting you, Wilson. I was wrong for doing so. You are an amazing person and the fact that my dirty and violent hands touched you never should have happened,” Rafe reads off of the cards that one of Porter’s employees is holding up for him. The group claps and Rafe zones out as everyone bustles about around him.
Once he is allowed to leave, Rafe makes a mad dash to The Wreck to meet with Lacey to ask her for help with his and Y/N’s date tomorrow. “I hope you know that you are paying for whatever I order. And I plan to order a lot,” Lacey notifies him, not even looking up from the menu as he sits across from her. Rafe laughs at her antics, “I don’t expect anything less. But I need your help with something for Y/N and mine’s date tomorrow, please.” “And what exactly does that help entail?” Lacey replies; this time actually diverting her attention to the boy. “I just need you to cook some things for me. I’ll make you a list of the foods and then you can give me the bill after you get the stuff you need,” he answers. “Okay, I can do that. Especially if it’s for Y/N. Now, let’s order and then we can talk about this more. Mama is hungry.”
———
Rafe picks Y/N up at ten in the morning. He told her he had a whole day planned out for them and he knew she is an early bird anyway. He is wearing gray flannel on top of a gray T-shirt with some jeans. When Y/N opens the door, Rafe just pauses and admires her beauty. Her purple sweetheart neck raglan sleeve sweater shows her collarbones, which have a golden heart-shaped necklace resting between them. Her black pleated skirt rest just above her knees and this causes his eyes to follow down her legs to her white embroidered high-top converse. He knows she embroidered the flowers onto them herself. Her fingers are littered with rings and her double ear piercing both have hoops in them. Her hair twisted back behind her head with a claw clip. Rafe notices she is wearing some light makeup; god, he wants to smudge that pinkish-red lipstick.
Y/N smiles softly at him and gives a tiny wave, “Hey, are you okay?” Rafe snaps out of his trance. “Yeah, just soaking in how happy I am to finally be taking you out on a date. Are you ready to go?” he admits whilst holding his hand out to her. She nods her head and takes his hand as she places her brown purse across her body. They get into his car and he drives off to their first destination.
———
The massive grin on Y/N’s face, when she sees the sign for Outer Banks’ biggest independent bookstore, tells Rafe that he is on the right track for their date and this causes his heart to swell with pride. He holds open the door and she practically runs into the shop. They randomly walk around for a little bit to start. The conversation only begins after Y/N sees the Percy Jackson books. “Rafe, these are my absolutely favourite books. I owe my love of reading to Rick Riordan,” Y/N gushes to him. Rafe loves how passionate she is about the books and how she is not afraid to show it, “Really? How so?”
Y/N's heart leaps at the genuine interest that Rafe is showing, “When I was a kid, I had a hard time learning to read. So I hated doing it. My parents tried getting me to read so many different books. I never really felt seen with any of them. But with Percy, I felt a connection with his character because of his dyslexia. His sarcasm and jokes made him relatable to me and I fell in love with reading because of it.”
“I never knew that you could connect to a character on that level. The last book I remember reading is the Harry Potter series and I don’t think I really felt that way about any of the characters.”
“Yeah, it feels kinda magical when you can. It really helps you immerse yourself in the story. I’m actually thinking about starting a YA book club. Maybe, you can join and you’ll find your connection.”
“I would love to join. You really have interesting perspectives on books and I would love to learn more. Plus, I think it would be fun to have reading dates together.”
Y/N is surprised that Rafe actually likes her idea. The excitement she feels about being able to show him some of her favourite books grows. The rest of the time at the bookstore is spent with Rafe holding Y/N’s stack of books she wants to buy, listening to her point out the books she has read or wants to read. He finds it adorable and it reminds him of a little kid on a scavenger hunt. It takes a lot of convincing from Rafe to get Y/N to let him pay for all of her books. He asks her to take the books out to the car, saying he thinks he forgot something in the store. He quickly locates the Percy Jackson series and runs it up to the cash register to pay. Rafe knows he could probably borrow the books from Y/N, but he wants it to be a surprise that he is going to read them.
———
The next destination for their date is Rafe’s kitchen, where Y/N finds all the ingredients she needs to make chocolate chip cookies on the island. “I thought we could make cookies for dessert for dinner,” Rafe announces to her. Y/N looks at him with delight, “Okay, but only if you let me take the lead.” “I will always let you take the lead,” Rafe confesses with adoration in his eyes. This causes Y/N’s cheeks to heat up.
Y/N’s back is facing Rafe; she is concentrating on mixing the ingredients, so she doesn’t notice Rafe scooping some chocolate chips into his mouth from the bag. She turns around to ask him something when she sees his cheeks puffed like a chipmunk and giggles. “Are you eating some chocolate?” she laughs as he nods his head with a guilty look on his face. “You really are just like a child. Come here, please. I need you to help me place the balls on the pan. You roll the balls and I’ll place them.” Rafe listens to her order and scoops some of the dough into his hand and forms just about the smallest ball she has ever seen. This causes some more giggles to fall past her lips. “Those are too small and it looks more like a cube than a sphere. Here, let me help you,” she instructs, wrapping her arms around his to help guide him with making the next ball. She directs his hands to the ball and helps him take some cookie dough into his hands. She places her hands over his as she helps him make the motion to make the balls.
Y/N is not going to lie; she gets a little distracted by Rafe, who smells like the salty sea air and a hint of chlorine. She pauses for a second and this causes Rafe to look down at her to see if she is okay. He smiles when he notices she is admiring his smell. She snaps out of the daydream and continues to help him form a golf ball-sized dough ball. Now, knowing how to make the balls, Rafe continues on his own. Y/N places the pan in the oven when all the balls are formed and they go to watch Clueless as the cookies bake.
———
Dinner is served picnic style on the beach, watching the sunset. Battery-powered lanterns litter the sand around the picnic mat to create light. It illuminates the spread of sushi, pasta, cheeseburger sliders and mini tacos; all of Y/N’s favourite foods and all cooked by Lacey. The couple gorges themselves on the buffet before they cuddle together on the beach, sharing the cookies they made together. “When did you think you started to fall for me?” Y/N ponders, taking a bite from the cookie and then handing it over to Rafe.
“You are going to call me a liar. But I think I’ve been slowly falling for you since we were five. I remember thinking: ‘She is totally wrong about who won the race, but I love how she isn’t afraid to fight back in her own way.’ Also, I found it funny how long you could hold a grudge. How about you?”
“That is totally a lie and such a cliche. For me, it is probably when you took me to McDonald’s after my first date with Wilson. You knew what I needed and what I liked without me having to tell you. I really appreciated that. You also did a bunch of things that Wilson didn’t even do for me on our date and I kept thinking about that.”
“No, it can’t have been then. It was so recent.”
“Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. It’s when I knew for sure though that I had feelings for you. Maybe I started unconsciously falling for you way before then.”
“Good. Because I want the book of you and me to be a really long one. So your chapters have to start before that.”
“Okay, whatever you want.”
“You’re cold. My swim team sweater is in the basket for you.”
“How did you know I’m cold?”
“Caring for you is my sixth sense now.”
Y/N untangles herself from his arms and goes over to the basket to put on his hoodie. He loves to see her wearing his number and last name on his back. One day, it’s going to be hers too. She goes back into his arms to cuddle for a little bit. After a while, he notices she is growing tired and they pack up to go back to her house.
———
Rafe is parked outside of her house, waiting for her to get out of the car. She doesn’t move, but instead turns towards him, “Can you sleep over? I don’t really want this date to end.” He tiredly smiles at her and turns the car off. They get into her room and go around getting ready for bed in sync. The scene felt perfectly domestic as they brushed their teeth together. He gets into the bed first and lets his arms wrap around her when she lies beside him. She rests her head on his chest and her eyes flutter closed, “Goodnight, Rafe.” “Goodnight, my rose,” he whispers, placing a kiss on her forehead before falling asleep.

Marvin and Cassie Y/L/N find their daughter in bed the next morning in the arms of Rafe Cameron. They are not surprised by the sight and are glad the two have finally gotten together. “You owe me a book,” Cassie mumbles as she closes Y/N’s bedroom door and they walk downstairs. Marvin lightly grumbles, “They really couldn’t have waited a year. I thought they would finally realize it in university.”
“Not them. They were meant to be.”
