for example—the fact that his heart is palpitating so fast is making him afraid that he'll get the same sense of doom he frequently gets whenever this happens. like when he's the one that the professor chooses to answer a question up front. just his luck cause it absolutely sucks in real life just as much as his chances of winning that rare character.

but no, there isn't an impending sense of doom that sends him to the edge. no cold sweat forming on the skin of his neck, nor does it protrude from his clammy hands. it's weird, he feels warm rather than the cold it usually accompanies.

scenario one: you bump into him at night in some alley in the district trying to find your way back to your house. and he waits for the squeal of terror directed towards his face, or for you to run away. but instead, you bow, apologizing deeply. it's then that he notices your cane. you go to brush off his clothes when he grabs your hand and insists no harm was done. let him walk you home. why is he acting so nice? he doesn't know. but he doesn't like it. he hates humans, disgusting creatures. but this one seems ok.

scenario two: daki grabs you for your beauty, but he stops her from devouring you. why? who knows? maybe it's because he recognizes you from when you were kind to him. either way, you're his now.

just like when he was the primary guardian of his sister, he would love to feel like he was protecting you, even when you don't really need it

he would follow you around to make sure nobody would be mean

he would make sure there were no sharp objects around that you could potentially run into in areas you weren't familiar with

one night, the two of you were sitting on your futon, talking, hugging, doing whatever s/o and demon bf do, when you reached up to touch his face. he tensed up a bit, a little nervous of your soft hands feeling the uneven skin, but when you smiled at him, he saw you were genuinely happy. he might've shed a tear that night, but who knows?

you could feel his body tense up next to yours, but you didn't cease your movements. your hands, cupping his face, trying to map out what you couldn't see.

i'm trying to think... how would he respond to you aging? like would he just let you die of old age? would he turn you into a demon? like this man has never felt so loved and accepted by someone (who wasn't his sister), and i don't think he would let you go that easily.

love languages: physical touch. this man was STARVED of loving physical contact as a child. please hug him.

words of affirmation. mans doesn't regret becoming a demon, so don't say anything like that. but maybe, "you're so pretty", or "best bf ever" or "you're too good to me." mans would be one of three things.

one, weeping. crying his eyes out. hugging you, or your waist (depending on where the two of you are)

two, bashful. little embarrassed about his reaction, but he loves and CRAVES the attention. little head kisses as thanks.

Technically, the author said that they didn't see Gojo being faithful to one or a certain woman not that he was a womanizer.

With what we know about Gojo (and Gege Akutami's trolling ways, for that matter), I think that's up for interpretation.

FAN INTERPRETATION

Fans really took that sentiment and kind of ran with it because, to us, Gojo is high spec in every way. Canonically good looking, tall, competent at like.. everything according to Akutami, strong and presumably loaded. Of course someone like that would be a womanizer, right?

Except Gojo is an oversized child who still kinda refers to Digimon in conversation and primarily hangs out with 16 year olds. People project a lot of their BS onto him because they can't imagine ticking all those boxes and not being an asshole. But he’s a corny dork who is seemingly impervious to the outright disdain of most of the people around him. IT’S COMICAL. Personally, I think this interpretation is incorrect, demonstrably.

The other side of the fandom is naturally like... well of course he couldn't stay faithful to one woman. He's been faithful to Geto for ten years! I think we know what camp I've pitched my tent in *gestures vaguely to the rest of my blog* Especially when you bear in mind that Gege Akutami specifically designed Gojo and Geto to be intrinsic complements of one another.

CANON

I'm not so SatoSugu addled (once the brain rot sets in, it's terminal) that I am unable to disclose the secret third way we can interpret this. Canonically, when we look at Gojo as a character... it almost makes sense to assume he's simply not interested in dating at all.

In universe, we've seen maybe two canonical couples: Yuta & Rika and Hakari & Kirara (to be animated). This supports the fact that Gege's not really concerned with injecting "romance" into the plot unnecessarily. Undeniably and supporting the SatoSugu agenda, however, is the fact that JJK 0 very much aligned Gojo & Geto with Yuta & Rika with the theme coming to a head in season 2 with Gojo's sealment. For clarity, I mean how love ultimately cursed Rika and Geto after death by Yuta's begging her not to leave and Gojo not properly disposing of Geto's body. Love turned Rika into a curse and allowed Kenjaku to swoop in on Geto.

GETO'S POPULARITY

Geto is, quite literally, popular with everyone in universe and that was before he became a cult leader... which also indicates a predilection for popularity, I guess? As a character, he is principled, thoughtful, gentle and strong. I think, collectively, we tend to toil over the fact that Gojo spent more time missing Geto than he actually knew him. But... that's the same for Shoko and Nanami. After Geto's defection, Nanami couldn't forsake him even if he morally couldn't approve of his actions. Over ten years later as the night parade of a hundred demons is set to take place, Yaga starts saying something along the lines of finally getting rid of the scourge that is Suguru Geto and Shoko makes it a point to leave. I think it's because, after everything, she still holds affection and pity for Geto and would rather not hear him being bad-mouthed for breaking under the pressure of things.

He was the best of them, after all.

"Suicide in protest" is not self-evidently the result of being "mentally deranged" if you believe your suicide may inspire others to protest or to support your cause.You may be wrong about that belief, but being incorrect is not the same as being deranged. This is what I wanted to distinguish in my exchange with Summer. It's true that any single act of protest is unlikely to yield major results, but that's true of any kind of protest. It doesn't follow that protest is always an irrational act.

I will respond to all your asks on this one, as I think its form of goose chase logic. You can try to construct some intricate chain about how this or that might be some logical act, and in the platonic ideal universe that is true. I was quite consistent (its tumblr, I wasn't publishing a paper so maybe not everywhere) on how its almost certain, its not some 100% thing, its not logically impossible.

But I am allowed to be a human being using my eyes observing reality. And that logic chain is irrelevant, it doesn't matter if "superhero movies valorize last stands" or w/e, because mentally well people *don't* watch those and then suicide themselves for arbitrary political causes. We in fact have a long track record of people who do these kinds of things. You mention in the other ask Christian martyr types, and we have those in the modern era, you don't need to go back to old bible stories. You know them as people like abortion clinic bombers! And they are mentally unwell pretty much every time, because in real life that is the precondition for someone doing this kind of thing if they are from this kind of social context. Fortunately Aaron was more moral/not quite as unwell as those who drag others down with them, but its the same state of mind, the same social phenomenon.

Personally I think that is this was someone burning themselves alive protesting the injustice of Trump having the election stolen from him in 2020 no one would be debating the mental state of that person here, but with the political poles flipped suddenly its heroism; but I wont put that on you, that would be unfair, you haven't said that. But for the wider discourse its almost certainly true.

Again there are exceptions out there, rare but it happens. But this isn't some abstract conversation. He was almost certainly mentally unwell, the evidence we have *already* suggests that, and while we might never get more evidence because that isn't how reality works if we do all the smart money suggest it will show more. Because sociology is real, humans aren't snowflakes.

I do admit that there is a strain in US/western culture that baits the mentally unhealthy into extremist behavior that, for the most vulnerable, can spiral from performative politicking to things like actual violence or self-harm. if you go down the line of thinking that “homelander wanted to spare marie” it raises way more questions than answers. like, if he wanted to spare her, then WHY attack her in the first place?? there were witnesses on campus that already knew marie and jordan were trying to save people; jordan was the one getting the board of trustees to safety and ashley even offered marie a goddamn spot on the seven to stop cate! attacking her just creates more problems than solves them and it makes HIM look worse in the eyes of the public.

if he truly thought marie was the threat (which is most likely) he wouldn’t have spared her bc…he was literally called to take the threat out…ashley literally told marie to kill the threat, cate, and the same message was probably relayed to homelander.

the only reason i can think of that homelander would make it look like he killed marie while actually sparing her is if VOUGHT told him to do that. but again, that doesn’t make any sense since vought was gonna offer marie a spot in the seven and they really didn’t have any reason to take out marie.

here’s what i think went down: homelander probably wasn’t told much about what was actually happening at godolkin, he was just called down to handle a situation, no questions, comments, or concerns. he made the incorrect assumption that marie was the threat that needed to be handled (bc he’s RACIST) and he tried to kill her. obviously, this wasn’t the case, since marie was trying to STOP the massacre, but bc homelander is vought’s biggest asset (and bc he’s already in deep deep shit for killing that civilian and him killing an innocent girl would NOT help that situation), vought chose to spin it so that marie and co. looked like the bad guys, while cate and sam were the heroes. to protect homelander.

also, who’s to say he didn’t try to kill jordan? we don’t know anything that happened directly after homelander blasted marie. maybe ashley or someone stopped him before he could go too far and randomly kill a bunch of kids. and since jordan in male form is laser proof, they def could’ve survived it, but again, we really don’t know what actually happened in the aftermath.

just…can we PLEASE stop acting like homelander trying to kill marie is something that’s WILDLY out of character for him? this is completely on brand for him. stop making excuses and stop trying to discredit marie! bc at the end of the day, that’s what this is really about: people just don’t want to admit that marie is stronger than homelander.

The weird Resistance x Federation on Team Green Ninjas

Team green ninjas has a BUNCH of Federation spies/people who are attached to the federation vs. the main tryharders (in brawn and brain) being Resistance oriented. Its as if the federation put these code oriented people on PURPOSE to protect the others. Like. just look: Resistance: Max, Bagi, Mike, Etoiles, Fit and Roier

Max and Bagi being huge investigators, one founded the Theory Bros, and the other, is in the same level as the biggest investigator of the island. Mike being great at Create and minecraft mechanics in general, also pretty good at PVP too. Etoiles and Fitmc from 2b2t being MONSTERS on PvP, one a experienced legend of an Anarchy Server and another being practically unbeatable in QSMP. And Roier, experienced as hell and been able to beat Etoiles in a fair fight. A Monster to be feared. Diferent to the others, not been approached nor mentioned by the Resistance. But, despises the federation and his own husband has been approached by them. Federation: Antoine, Kameto, ElQuackity & Forever.

Antoine is someone somehow above cucurucho, having ties from long ago with the feds, likely an powerful entity created by them. ElQuackity most probably being an experiment of the feds, now working directly with it and serving as a assistant to them Kameto being an Spy, serving to gather information to the feds And Forever, the president, who unwillingly is under their control, being the only one to be able to face the federation in the island as "equals". + is an Permanent Resident. Plus, All of them arent just some federation workers like Cellbit, Fit, WB--/WA--... they are IMPORTANT people, very important people to the federation. So, we have three possibilities: One, could be to keep an eye on the Resistance's Recruits, as if the Federation wanted their most trustworthy people to watch over these people, to see if they could find out about the Resistance's future plans, or how much they know. Two, knowing how the codes recruit people who are strong, physically and mentally, they could've choosen these 5 people because of that. Because they know the codes' recruits could protect them and lead the "Federation team" to victory. Or, Three, if we follow Bagi's theory that the resistance was created by the Federation, this team up is a way to the federation hint exacty that, like the weirdos they are. That, even though the Resistance Recruits think they are going against the Federation, they are actually objectively helping the organization. Either way, even if this all is incorrect, this HAS to be on purpose, the fact we have HUGE people from the Resistance and HUGE people from the Federation together... is intringuing. Although... I couldn't forget to mention the two wild cards: Rubius and Mouse.

He was a Entity that has been taken from his immortality. We don't have idea if he's code or federation oriented. He only existed there for his own amusement. He could do anything... But, maybe because it was Cucurucho who took it... Rubius may not like him. He may go against him. And Mouse, a LITERAL DEMON, One that has lost its memory. And, from what she vaguely remembers, most probably is the King of HELL. She is powerful as hell since she is a demon, and has no shame whatsoever on saying it outloud, like the other two demons. As we know, Bad, a Demon, is very requisited by the Federation, I wonder if she could have a similar reception, as King of Hell? ...So i wonder what the hell this team will go through. Even though they are the team with the most chances to win... most of the team have huge arrows pointing at them in red: "BETRAYAL". -Fit is hiding his mission, given by a 3rd party, that looks like will hurt the islanders and the feds directly, but is something about the player data. -Maxo has a NUCLEAR BOMB IN HIS WALLET and wants to EXPLODE IT, DESTROY EVERYTHING. And is planning to only protect a few people and the eggs. -Bagi somehow got into this island. Somehow, by somebody. She isn't holding this secret on purpose, since she doesn't remember, but... -Forever, who got from the Dark Cucurucho that he should be the fricking JUDAS on his team???? And the fact Forever wants to follow exactly that??? He wants the truth, yes, but i wonder what this will lead to. -Mike behaving weirdly when he came back, as if he is being possessed by some entity, saying multiple times to only Fit that he wants to kill everyone and all the eggs. Wanting to take Pac from him... And the Fed workers? I think I don't even need to elaborate. What the hell is this team? What is wrong with them??? - in his mind, it was never a feeling of choosing one or the other but rather the feeling of being incomplete. kira is someone who rly values routine and balance, so i imagine that this applies to gender too, in that masculinity and feminity are two sides of the same coin to him. i don't think he would want to medically transition even if that were an option, but his gender expression is very much real and tangible to him, even in the most seemingly inperceptible ways

- i think that she started questioning after getting KQ but never felt the urge to seek out answers or dig deep into it once she started being able to give herself freedom of expression at home. it only became a problem when she had to hide as kosaku and was once again having to keep those parts of herself hidden (i'm sorry that this follows so many story beats of kira's murder activities, it's not meant to be a one-to-one parallel 😭 just a result of the freedom vs repression of canon circumstances)

- HOWEVER smth that diverges from canon is that i think there's a way around kira's gender expression now that he doesn't have to perform in secret but rather express himself through a different outlet once shinobu becomes part of the equation. kosaku tends to wear dark/dull-colored clothing whereas kira is more inclined towards coloful pastels. i think shinobu would pick up on this difference and start having them wear matching outfits, slowly making his closet more feminine. kira would freak out at first thinking it was some kind of test that he had slipped up on, but shinobu would only lean harder into it bc honestly she just wants to bond with her husbandwife over smth as simple as clothes. it's the first time kira's even been called pretty. he doesn't protest

- when kira gets used to having someone recognize and even encourage her gender expression, i think this would be when she starts being comfortable enough to talk abt it and recognize it as more than just a feeling. she and shinobu might even have a conversation (probably initiated by shinobu through unsubtle questions that kira was too embarrassed to dance around and would rather address head on)

- as big of a revelation as this is for kira, i don't think much would change. he still prefers to do things as they always were and doesn't rly feel like he misses out on much when he goes out in his suit and gets called masc terms; in fact, it's a comfortable familiarity. but every time he puts on the subtle perfume that shinobu got for him, well, that becomes a familiar type of comfort for him too

Ik what your stance is on liking Griffs character and I have nothing against it because Griffith's character is arguably one of the best written characters in Berserk, he's actually my guilty favorite.

But sometimes, I catch myself SILENTLY judging ppl who like characters that do morally incorrect things like Mori from Bungou Stray Dogs who's a straight up p*do or same with Hisoka or many other characters who tend to be p*dos and r*pists.

so i guess my question sorta fall in, when do you draw the line in liking a character?

I mean, Griffith did unfortunately rape casca (a horrible writing decision, really). anyways, I guess I sorta try to seek justification like "Oh but Miura wrote the rape scene in such a ridiculous way that I can't seem to really fully have the idea that Griff is a rapist in mind"

or sometimes i just yk, love the character design and how he was written (esp post eclipse god, he is awesome!!)

but sometimes...I see ppl who are justifably upset that I like a character that happens to SADLY have a stupidly written key point where he rapes a character.

And I don't blame ppl who hate Griff for raping her, bc theres been times where I also hate charcters for how they were pedos or also SA'd someone...so why is the line so blurry when it comes to liking Griffith and how can I ig put myself in a position where I don't feel bad for liking him?

tbh I don't have a line when it comes to fictional characters.

Or maybe more accurately, my line isn't which characters people like, but how they discuss them. I wouldn't judge someone (morally, I might judge their taste lol) for liking any character ever, no matter how awful, because I don't know what they like about them, what their lines are, what they feel comfortable ignoring or reasoning away or happily playing up because they like dark shit in fiction, etc. It's all fair game as far as I'm concerned. If they like a rapist I don't assume they love real rape, I assume they like dark fiction and consider them a really well-written villain, or they like other aspects of the character and the rape doesn't ruin it for them, or they like the character design and don't care that much about fictional crimes, or maybe they have a rape kink which is also perfectly fine, etc.

But yk, when people use harmful rhetoric to discuss a character they like, that's when I start judging. Eg I'm fine with people who love Guts. I'm not fine with people who say things like "Casca should forgive Guts for the assault because he stopped himself before going too far," eg. I'd be fine if they said "Casca should forgive Guts because it would make for a more satisfying story" though - I'd judge their taste in fiction and ability to analyze the story lol, but I don't think that opinion would make them a bad person. I'm fine with people who love Farnese, I'm fine with people who prefer her to Casca, but I'm not fine with anyone who might frame it like, Farnese is better than Casca because she's rich and white and from a respectable family. (I've never seen this take lol, but yk, as a hypothetical.)

Also in my personal experience I find that people who like characters due to their own offensive biases tend to have a hard time hiding it, so it's pretty easy to judge them by their own character, rather than their fictional preferences. And in my own experience the worst kinds of people tend to like heroic characters more than villains lol. If anything I find that liking characters who do "morally incorrect things" is often a sign that I'll get along with that person.

There's also something to be said here re: watsonian vs doylist perspectives. I think people who view media from a purely watsonian perspective, ie kind of buying into the fictional story as if it's real, attempting to understand the characters the way someone would understand a real person and relate to them on those terms, are going to have a harder time dealing with morally dark characters.

I tend to view media from a doylist perspective, which means I view the characters as constructions that help tell a story, and I generally judge them on what they bring to that story and how effectively they serve it. I wouldn't want to be friends with most of my faves, and I like a lot of characters who do terrible things, because those characters are fun to watch and read about. So disliking a character just because they did a bad thing doesn't really make sense to me on a personal level. I get why other people feel that way, but I don't care about fictional harm. I'll hate a character for being mildly annoying when they're on screen, but I generally won't hate a character for committing atrocities, unless they're depicted in a way that pisses me off lol. Like, I love Femto, I hate Isidro. Femto is cool even with the obnoxious rape scene, Isidro is annoying even though he's an innocent kid.

(Also I guess to be completely fair I'd judge someone for liking a character who exists solely as like, fascist political propaganda. But I do mean solely, like I'm talking shit like The Turner Diaries, not like the MCU or cop shows lol. Or like, if someone says they love the protag of Atlas Shrugged they'd better clarify that they disagree with the political messaging and they like him for xyz reasons, because it's such an infamously libertarian story that I'm gonna side-eye anyone who likes it by default, bc I feel like in this day and age very few people are reading Ayn Rand for the story lol. So I do technically have some lines in terms of judging fans of characters, but they're pretty uncommon lines.)

tl;dr I don't think you should feel bad for liking Griffith and idt you should even feel like you have to justify it by saying the rape scene was badly written. It was, and I think it's totally fair if that helps you like Griffith more, but even if the rape scene was super well-written and respectful to Casca and thematically significant etc etc Griffith would still be a fantastically written character imo.

And I don't know the other examples you gave personally, but as a general rule I think it's better to judge people for how they behave than for what kinds of fiction they enjoy. I do at least have friends who like Hisoka, presumably because he's a fun, entertaining character give or take the creepiness, and they're awesome people.

I don't think you should have to like those characters yourself ofc, rape/pedophilia/etc etc is a pretty understandable line to draw in terms of your own enjoyment of a fictional character, but other people have different lines and I think that's reasonable too.

reviewing the v3 death portraits

(i'm gonna assume tsumugi was painting these personally, because it's more interesting that way).

i had a very clear memory of these being A) in that lovely danganronpa pink, and B) distinctly spray-paint-esque, and apparently neither of these things are true?? weird. anyway, i can't find any specific symbolism for either of these - but that's fine! they do a good job at establishing a baseline for the other characters to deviate from.

oh, ryouma...this one makes me SO fucking sad. he doesn't even get the care of a personally painted X, just a fucking stamp. it really drives home tsumugi's casual exploitation of him - he was never anything special to her, just a convenient way to round out the cast with an easy victim. i can so clearly see her stamping it and then sliding it off her desk as casually as any other paperwork. a completed task.

as for kirumi's - hers looks like it was done with a paint marker, or at least a thin paintbrush held steadily and carefully. the neat, thin lines really suit her. (the little smudges clearly betray it as done by someone with less skill than she had, though).

after the BITTERLY atheistic conclusion of ch3, angie's portrait feels a bit mocking - but i really don't think it was intended that way. a sweet, affectionate doodle with absolutely zero thought to how insensitive it is to the ACTUAL HUMAN WHO DIED is so in character for tsumugi, isn't it? same for tenko - the little pinwheel curls might be a bittersweet memorial from a true friend, but from the person who led you to your death?

anyway i thought for ages that the splatter on kiyo's portrait was mimicking the fire from his execution, and i'm still like 80% sure that's the truth, but looking closer - doesn't it look like a mouth and nose right above the right side of his hat? the rest of it could be sweeping hair, too...i see faces in everything tho so maybe i'm making this up sndhsgf.

miu's probably doesn't require any explanation, but just in case you didn't know - XXX is an old-timey way to mark "adult" things, sometimes alcohol or drugs but most commonly sexual content. it's very appropriate for miu and i'm sure she would've loved it, lmao. (i've also recently grown fond of the theory that miu was intended to be the first killer, and tsumugi disliked her just as much as kodaka does - which makes the thought of her angrily scribbling out the Xs VERY funny).

i can't find any particular meaning to gonta's - i thought maybe the forking on the left line was deliberate, but it seems like the same type of smudges everyone's has on closer inspection. oh well!

ohhh, kokichi's. this one is LAYERED and INCREDIBLY PETTY. a checkmark, really!? it's not the dismissiveness of ryouma's stamp - tsumugi personally checked him off her list. and just in case you weren't sold on how much she hates him yet, it's the only mark to cover the dead person's mouth. ouch!! (i've also read that checkmarks can mean 'incorrect' in japan when they mean 'correct' in the west, which is another contradiction to send him out with).

i think kaito's is pretty obvious - it's two little comets. again, would be sweet if it weren't coming from tsumugi. also the top one looks like a middle finger LMAO

i know this is a long shot because i remember little and i'm pretty sure i've asked before and no one knew what book i was talking about but does anyone know a book that:

came out 10+ years ago

aimed at SOMEWHERE in the 8-15yo range (i realize this is a big range, but i don't remember when i read it, just that it was in the childrens section).

is a werewolf book but there's very little werewolf in it (do you know how hard it is to find a specific, non-popular childrens/pre-teen barely-werewolf book. google does not like it)

the setting is vaguely medieval/generic fantasy although i dont remember there being much fantasy outside of werewolves. maybe some alchemy? i really dont think magic obviously existed for much of the story

the main character is a girl (Also in the 8-15 range i would guess) who is living with a family that isn't her exact birth family (stepmom, grandparents, orphan taken in, i dont remember but it was something like that) and it isn't Great but mostly because they're poor and she's the weak link i think

for some reason she gets taken to a quarry and i remember it being her family's fault. like they didn't protect her from the working draft, did it to pay off their debts, etc. she's forced to work but makes friends with the other workers and i think she ends up seeming unusual in some way (strength to work when grown men cant, healing and recovering, etc. a plague sweeps through and she's fine and it's suspicious) there.

somehow she ends going from there to the palace. i remember her having some tie with the royal family but i think she also might have just befriended their daughter or something.

she was on the run either on the way to the palace or afterwards. she hid in a barn or under a trapdoor or something

here's the distinct part: that book ends with her in the woods, discovering she's a werewolf with the help of other wolf(ves). she has an injury at the base of her neck where the hair has grown back pure white (a sign of werewolfism???)

i feel like it was setting up for a sequel but have no idea if that ever happened. a few Extremely sparse details of this book have been burned in the back of my mind for like fifteen years and i have no clue what the fuck it was. any parts of this could be incorrect/missing because ive remembered this so many times off and on over the years that idk what parts are real or my brain filling in the gaps. i might be combining two books honestly but i dont think i am.

like i feel like her birth parent(s) (maybe just one) were wolves in the woods that she didnt know were werewolves, she started showing signs of being supernatural in the quarry, someone (rasputin-ish) kind of recognized that in her and had her brought to the palace to more carefully study (unbeknownst to her, to a certain degree), she became really good friends with a noble lady there her age, discovered her family might have ties to the royal one, but was still essentially a prisoner. one night she tried to sneak out and the princess(?) caught her but then ended up covering her ass so she could climb the wall and went on the run. she hid in a barn at one point, was discovered by a family and hid from the same kind of patrol that took her to the quarry. somehow she ended up injured, limping into the woods, where she discovered she was a werewolf. and then the book ended. but that sounds so inexplicable i feel like half of it has to be wrong! so i really want to find this book again but i cant figure out what to even google to find this weird fucking story again and i would feel like a lunatic going back to my childhood library 15 years later or whatever and trying to describe this fever dream to them.

Russia - for me as a person who lives among them he's just... Too nice? Too well-behaved? Something like that. He needs just a little bit of spice, not too much. I would've also incorporated his sense of humor in some way, because it's a thing that is absolutely unique and IMO Russians have the best sense of humor in the world. And cartoons. Also his lack of organisation and general incompetence in EVERY SPHERE, I never saw that in Hetalia. Only his brutality. Shallow really. It must be there, that's what the Russians are mostly known for. Their main stereotype. He lacks carelessness

Belarus - I do get it. She's cold because of political reasons, only country in Europe to have death penalty... But I wish that she could also be warm. For example, yes, cold in the international arena, but comically warm and jolly among her friends. Belorussians are INSANELY nice and good people, like, I never met anyone on the same level. I absolutely love them and I am forever grateful to God for putting so many in my life. It's a miracle. I don't deserve this lol Also maybe a bit more play with Lithuania and Belarus, how he used to rule her, how she stole his coat of arms (xD), they're just a lot alike (same national bird etc). More spice in their relationship, not just Lithuania having a crush on her, but maybe accusing her of things, etc. Conversing about their love for potatoes. You know, things from everyday life that happen there.

Ukraine - Terrible. First of all, never met a Ukrainian without a tan in my life. They're reasonably positioned in southern Europe, the black sea... They're pretty dark although not all of them but I think it would be awesome if Bel and Russia were so pale and white and Ukraine tan but maybe still with blonde hair. It would contrast nicely. Tits, agreed. Poor gal? I don't think so, Ukrainians are quite strong and DEFINITELY NOT pushovers. What her design lacks are main events of Ukrainian history: Issues with Poland, nazi collaboration. Some edginess to her character. They're a bit nationalistic, but you can't blame them for it since how Russians and Poles treated them. (albeit they weren't exactly goodies either)

Latvia - I wish someone just read latvian history at least once in their lives. Just, one person, please. Hahaha. So basically, making Latvia more weak than Lithuania is a CRIME. At least more morally weak. Latvia had COLONIES, a great fleet, they were influenced with Germans, hence the better the development of his than that of Lithuania who was influenced by Slavs, LATVIA was the ONLY baltic state who fought the Nazis, who defended their country when they occupied them. Lithuania just let them in. He's just incredibly underrated, you can't just base his entire design on how he looks in 21st century. I'm not saying he's supposed to be buff and strong, because he is weaker in terms of military and sovereignty, but making him a woman I think would be very cool? Since the Latvian girls are the tallest in Europe. So making her tough in medieval times then making her weak in modern times would be pretty easy. They're way better than Lithuanians morally and behavior wise. Latvia is more liberal and easy going when it comes to ethnical issues, they don't really care that they're getting assimilated into Russia when Lithuania is really mean about it.

Lithuania - His name doesn't exist. The national clothes he's wearing in his design are incorrect, they look Ukrainian. Hair colour is very on point. Other than that, he has no right to be as nice as portrayed. They're usually mean and very passive aggressive. Terrible sense of humor. They're called the Italians of the North so that would be cool to see, making him the most emotional or in-your-face attitude out of all northerners. It's not good that his love for singing, the entire basis of that country - singing, was never put into spot. I think it should be mainly based off that. More pagan stuff, they had remaining pagans up until the 19th century which is unbelievable, and that religion still exists now, people practice it. Also its a bit hard to speak of it as one country because there's like 5 regions there and people in each one of them differ a lot. Samogitians don't even consider themselves lithuanian.

Hungary is way too nice too. Their politics or history are not nice at all, they have an attitude of an oppressor. She looks too normal, there's not much hungarian about her, give her some special features. Should be made into a duo with Poland since they both call themselves brothers.

Poland - Gay weak inconsiderate irresponsible annoying and lame. So 100% accurate. Very nice, I agree, good job Hima.

I've seen a lot of discussion and break downs of characters and motivations. But there are things about Top and Boston that keep jumping out at me but no one seems to be bringing up so these are my Only Friends thoughts:

Top:

From where I sit, he's giving off some serious abuse survivor vibes. When Boston talks about wanting him, Top has the clear ability to state he isn't interested. But when Boston gets physical at any point, Top freezes and lets it happen to a point where he either has to start actively participating or make a show of force to end things. And while he's a bit bigger and probably stronger than Ton, he picks the more passive option. Generally a sign that he was either abused as a child or by a partner that he was with long enough to feel like he couldn't escape (conditioned into going along with the situation to ensure his safety). So I can't help but ask.... Was the house fire another sign of his parents neglect or was it a way for a parent to try and get rid of the damaged goods in the form of a child? Let's be real, Thai dramas do not shy away from truly fucked up parental abuse. We know Top still works for his father and takes his job seriously. Given what I've seen from dramas in the past and knowing that this show is wanting to push the boundaries I would not be surprised if the father had been abusing Top and the mother set a house fire to try to end Top's life in some fucked up attempt to put an end to the abuse.

I don't think he really likes Mew as a person. I think he likes the idea of someone who doesn't prioritise a physical relationship. Someone Top could be with and hold a bit of the control. Someone who might actually see Top as a person.

Boston:

He tops everyone else, bottoms only for Top. (This is not really relevant I just felt the need to say it)

So in ep 3 we find out Boston's dad is a politician and Boston can't so much as take a photo with a lover for fear of scandal. This explains a lot about his commitment issues. He is locked in the closet by his father's aspirations. Previous partners have probably been paid off to leave. If your first love hit the road for a cheque, you'd give up on love pretty quickly too. So again, I feel like it's a parental cause.

His obsession with Top may be a parent approval situation. It looks like Top and Boston's families are both rich and powerful and probably running in the same circles. Boston brings Top in from outside the uni. They very likely grew up as family friends. (That photo booth from the flash back is in Top's hotel) Top seems like a very obedient son and Boston has probably been given the "why can't you be more like him" speech at some point. Boston has a clear list of reasons why Top is "top-tier". Maybe he figures if he gets the best boyfriend going his parents might finally approve and let him keep a relationship. (Yes I know Ray's family is also rich and probably prestigious in some way but Ray is an alcoholic and Ray's mother also had addiction issues and a scandalous death so he's clearly not appropriate for dating a politician's son).

And I'm going to end this with a wild, definitely incorrect, theory that I'm sure will be defunct within an episode or so but I still want to put it out in the universe:

Sand is also a rich kid who got disowned for being bi/pan. Sand's ex is Boston. He would have been the partner that couldn't be bought but then Boston cheated on him with Top and everything went to shit. I know it's not an accurate head cannon but just imagine what it would mean for next week's interruption scene in the SandNick apartment.

Yoo Joonghyuk remained calm and spoke his piece. "All of your schemes were to destroy Kim Dokja." [Why do you think that? Do you have any reasons to believe that's the case?] "Maybe I do. Maybe I do have a pretty good reason." This Constellation, holding a mysterious animosity towards Kim Dokja, and at the same time, didn't exist in the 'original work', just like him. Yoo Joonghyuk had been chasing after this Constellation for a long time. And he had finally reached the answer to his pursuit in this very moment. "Secretive Plotter. Are you the 'Kim Dokja' from the future?"

I KNEW IT!

I freaking knew it!!!

All the way back when I was first reading the webcomic, I thought this guy was maybe a future/alternate Dokja. I didn't even have a tag for him yet!

Okay, actually, I have a couple of different theories by now, more on that in a moment.

Anyway, Secretive Plotter immediately made me suspicious right from the very start due to him seeming to just know what Dokja was planning at times. Like, he figured stuff out so quickly, he'd be smiling so knowingly or congratulating Dokja's plots while the other constellations were still scratching their heads over what was going on, like he knew exactly what Dokja was thinking. Or at least the way that Dokja thought. And then Dokja made a weird, completely out of nowhere comment about him being Fable-grade and Secretive Plotter being Fable-grade. Ahhhhhhh.

And then everything that's happened more recently, with us seeing that Secretive Plotter has access to alternate dimensions (alternate versions of ORV) and that Dokja has versions of TWSA in his library that he doesn't remember. Not to mention that both Joonghyuk and Dokja haven't actually been able to see what Secretive Plotter (or Joonghyuk's sponsor) look like, even when they're standing right before him.

Which, on the topic of looks... the Sooyoung of the 1863rd had a blurred out face when she encountered Sooyoung of this dimension. Just like Dokja. Which makes me begin to wonder if "our" Dokja actually isn't from this dimension and that's why he's never appeared in any regressions for this Joonghyuk. I'm actually wondering if Secretive Plotter is the Dokja that's supposed to be in this dimension whereas our Dokja got pulled through from somewhere else.

And, well, okay, it's not actually been confirmed (or denied) yet so Joonghyuk could still be wrong. Dokja himself tried to name Secretive Plotter and was kinda brushed off on being incorrect.

But it makes so much sense.

But, if Joonghyuk does turn out to be wrong, I think that it's flipped: Secretive Plotter is future/alternative Joonghyuk and Oldest Dream (who I presume is Joonghyuk's sponsor) is future/alternative Dokja.

Which I think is just as likely, in different ways? Maybe more likely? Especially as we're getting more into their emotions and their abilities and how they see both themselves and each other. Like, Plotter maybe doesn't immediately make me think of Joonghyuk (if anything it makes me think maybe Sooyoung instead but more on that in a second) but Joonghyuk isn't an idiot completely incapable of it. But more than that, someone who's a plotter is at least active in the story. More active than, say, a dreamer. And we just got through the scenes that emphasized that Joonghyuk does while Dokja watches.

But more importantly, I'm thinking back on how Secretive Plotter was giving Dokja crap for dying for his companions, specifically saying that maybe they wanted to die with him. And while Dokja did feel guilty because of that and thought that he'd overridden their wishes, that's not generally how Dokja thinks. At the end of the day, even if he feels bad about it, even if the person wants to die, 10 out of 10 times Dokja will choose to save those around him. Especially if it's Joonghyuk. So, who among the cast would most think that being forced to live when they wanted to die with everyone else is a curse? Who among the cast gifted Dokja a story titled "Hell of Eternity"? Hmmm?? Also, Secretive Plotter says more than just that in their original conversation:

[ Using those who should've died, changing the world line, hurting everyone and reaching the ending you desire… what is the meaning?] The empty eyes of the shadow were shining. An eerie chill went down my spine. [ No matter what you do or what story you make, you can't truly reach them. ]

...idk maybe it's just me but that sounds more like something a Joonghyuk who got to the end and hated it would say. Especially since Dokja's been going on about how TWSA doesn't necessarily end happily and that Joonghyuk saved the world but gave up the world to get it. We just got done with Joonghyuk saying that he became the Regressor and lost himself entirely, something which Dokja has only managed to pull him back from and which was easier because this is only the 3rd round.

And I've thought that Secretive Plotter wanted Joonghyuk dead in the other universe because he hated him and has beef with Oldest Dream but Dokja has shown time and time again that he will not kill Joonghyuk and that it's Joonghyuk who wants to die and so maybe Secretive Plotter is mad because Dokja didn't let Joonghyuk rest. In fact, giving Joonghyuk neverending life in a well-meaning attempt to save him might be the exact sort of thing that Dokja would do if he became a constellation and got a regression stigma...

And then that would make total sense for Joonghyuk's sponsor trying to be hands-off and even wanting him to step away from Dokja and be more proactive. He's both guilty and leery of himself (both versions of himself).

Ughhhhhh but also so much of that would make sense if it was flipped too and Dokja was Secretive Plotter and Joonghyuk was Oldest Dreamer! Like, even without getting into his beef with Oldest Dream, if Dokja is Secretive Plotter, and he's seen the end of the novel (which our Dokja has) and has gradually felt more and more guilty and like he's trampling on people for his version of the story (which our Dokja has) then it might also make sense that he knows it's for the best that Dokja kills Joonghyuk. And when Dokja denied him, he decided it was time to get rid of him...and as we've learned Dokja is very willing to kill Dokja.

And that's just seeing both of them a more generous light. If Oldest Dream and Secretive Plotter are from a universe where Joonghyuk and Dokja split for good then a bunch of this stuff can be seen in a different light (and still work for either or). Like, is it a coincidence that Joonghyuk is calling out Secretive Plotter right after he and Dokja made up?

Ahhhhhhhhh. So many interpretations! And most of it works both ways!

And I really do think that if one of them is future/alternate Dokja then the other must be future/alternate Joonghyuk because they're basically a set and that's also why I don't think Sooyoung could be either of the constellations even if she seems more like a "plotter" than Joonghyuk.

Which, actually, on the topic of Sooyoung, I've kind of flip-flopped on my theories for everybody over the course of the novel (I'm flip-flopping in this very post) and have gone back and forth with thinking Secretive Plotter or Dokja could be the author and then back and forth again but now I'm thinking, for the first time ever, that maybe Han Sooyoung is the author.

Because it's becoming obvious as time goes along that while TWSA apparently has three protagonists (another one! we're 60% in and Dokja says TWSA has a third protagonist!) I'm thinking ORV does too. And if you put them all together - author, Secretive Plotter & Oldest Dream, you have three people.

And Sooyoung has insisted that she didn't plagiarize and just because she called the novel trash doesn't really mean anything. Lots of writers don't like their works, especially their older works. (lol I would know.)

So, yeah, that's a lot of text to say current best guesses are:

Author - Sooyoung Secretive Plotter - Joonghyuk Oldest Dream - Dokja

(But really I can go either way on those last two.)

I suppose we shall see what turns out to be correct.

How would Thou Jestussy deal with a poppet who also has a chronic illness like heart disease or something?

[You know, I'm pretty sure I made a proper post about this, but I've been scrolling through the trenches of this blog and I can't find it for shit. So-]

Vinnel, boiled in hatred as he is, bathed in loathing, can never truly be normal or nice to you. He's incapable of it without a lot of time and coaxing having taken place beforehand.

His livid (sometimes subconscious) attitude towards those who are fully functional and have no physical disabilities will however, make him take it significantly easier on you from the get-go. Because, even if you don't have that same sort of intense distaste for the abled, he lumps you in with him. He sees himself in you, even if just a smidgen, just a tiny bit. It's enough.

It's the starting point for Vinnel to deeply begin relating to you. He'll start thinking about the opportunities the two of you might have missed in life due to illnesses you never asked for, the ways you both have been outcast and mistreated, the way you must weep yourself to sleep knowing how you'll never have what others take for granted no matter how much you beg for it. He'll also start projecting, assuming your family has been half as cruel as his because of the chronic condition. And maybe, even if incorrect, it might be beneficial towards your survival in his hand to not contradict these assumptions. Because the more of himself he projects onto you, the safer from harm you are.

Vinnel is still verbally abusive and will still hurt you, though he always takes care to never cross real limits and will do it in a much softer way unless he's driven to extremes. He's extremely attentive to your health and has a tendency to be ten times as possessive in this specific scenario. You have a lot more leverage to ask for things and dissuade the jester from doing certain things too- He'll listen to someone with a chronic illness much faster than he will anyone else.
