Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vampire female reader x Mikael (+ the siblings)
Summary: au where Mikael is a good dad and married the reader who has been like a mother to his kids for a thousand years.
He's never beaten, treated them horribly, or try to kill them. And Esther is the one who forced vampirism and killed all of them.
A/n: I'm experimenting with an idea I had in the middle of the night. Please leave feedback and if you would maybe want a second part.
We're also gonna pretend that rhe picture isn't Balthazar
Warnings: swearing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You listen in to the conversation taking place inside the mansion and look over to your husband.
"They've been on this earth together how long and they still don't know how to get along" Mikael chuckles as you smack his arm lightly.
You both look back to where Kol is being held back by Finn from trying to pounce on Klaus you're presuming by the way he looks like he wants to charge right at his older brother.
"We should get inside before things go down" you sigh, knowing the kids' antics.
"Definitely" Mikael quickly says as he sees Kol about to get out of the oldest's arms.
You guys vamp inside the house through the unlocked door and just before Kol attacks Klaus, you grab him so he's constrained in your arms. His back pulled against your chest.
"Okay, just breathe. There are many other ways to deal with problems that don't involve attacking your brother" you tell Kol as you slowly start to slacken your grip on the younger one (biologically/physically younger).
The five vampires look at both of you, shocked at your guys' appearance.
"Mother, Father!" Rebekah's the first to break out of the trance and runs over, hugging you guys.
"Rebekah, my lovely daughter" you hear Mikael whisper in her blond hair. You smile at how soft he turns when he's with his children.
"How did you guys find us?" Klaus spoke up.
"Well, people talk when five originals are in a small town, causing havoc" You sit down on the armrest of one of the couches in the room.
You give a pointed look over to Kol, who's advancing towards Klaus. He grumbles about it not being fair, before plopping back into the couch beside you. He leans his head against your side.
"Have they also talked about how Esther is back from the dead?" Klaus more so retorts.
You and Mikael both turn your attention to the hybrid pouring himself a drink. "What are you talking about?" Mikael asks his voice hard at hearing his ex-wife's name.
"She has come back to wipe out the existence of vampires" Finn answers.
"That bitch!" You exclaim. Everyone snaps their gaze on you, not used to you ever swearing. Even Mikael is surprised by your reaction.
"What? You expect me to be calm and stoic all the time?" You raise an eyebrow. "So where is she exactly?" You ask them.
"We have no clue" Kol mumbles into your shoulder.
"Then we'll just have to find out" Mikael says after a couple moment of silence.
Jasper Hale x reader | Cullen family x reader (platonic) | Mikaelson family x reader (platonic)
Summary: When Edward decides to leave Bella behind for her own safety, Y/N take the lead to take the Cullens to the town where she grew up, with her only concern being how to explain for them her real there.
Warning: None.
Author's note: That is my work, I DON'T authorize any plagiarism! | English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry if there's any grammar error.
༻✦༺  ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
"Edward, if you really want to disappear... I know a place we can go." Y/N said, looking directly into the mind reader's eyes, hoping to see some kind of emotion there.
Y/N could imagine the mess that was in Edward's head, the fact that he had, or rather, wanted to leave Bella behind for the girl's own safety was killing him from the inside, and despite feeling angry at the quick choice he made, she couldn't judge him. Y/N could never see herself away from Jasper, just imagining the possibility made her frozen heart hurt.
"Where?" Rosalie chimed in, looking at Y/N waiting for her response.
"New Orleans." She responded a few seconds later, feeling everyone's eyes focus on her.
Everyone in the Cullen family had a story that began at their birth and, often, ended with their last breath before becoming creatures of the night, stories of when their surname was something else, not Cullen.
Each one took their own time to reveal this story to the others, but it was never difficult for Y/N, after all, her life was normal before anything else... Right?
The vampire was born in London, but at the age of thirteen she moved to New Orleans with her mother after her parents divorced for reasons that Y/N didn't know to this day. Her mother chose New Orleans based on the idea that her parents, Y/N's grandparents, lived there and her ancestors came from there too.
From the age of thirteen, Y/N discovered the culture of New Orleans and grew up surrounded by it: street parties, blues players on every corner, restaurants open 24 hours a day, bright night bars and so on. At least that's what Y/N told her new family.
The truth is that the girl came from a lineage of extremely strong and well-known witches in the supernatural world, the Mikaelsons. Anyone who is smart enough would have a question mark in their mind now, after all, the Mikaelsons who are still alive are all vampires and vampires don't procreate, right? Right!
But what if part of the story has never been told? Not in bedtime stories, at least.
Niklaus' father was not the only affair Esther had, the mother of the Mikaelson family had a thing for supernatural beings and, therefore, in addition to werewolves, Esther became involved with a great wizard at the time, from the Bishop lineage.
Wizards weren't as well known at the time, as everyone focused on the female image within witchcraft, sometimes with curious eyes and sometimes with evil ones, but that doesn't mean they didn't exist, and Esther not only found one, she had a daughter with him.
Five years before Esther decided to turn her children into bloodthirsty creatures, she gave birth to Agnes Bishop-Mikaelson. Knowing the gigantic problem it would create if she showed up at home with another daughter in her arms, after her 9-month "trip", and that the child was not Mikael's, Esther decided to leave Agnes with her father and pretend that she never existed, completely removing the name Mikaelson from the child.
And it worked, no one from the Bishop family ever looked for her throughout her life and eternity, but that doesn't mean that the story of having remnants of a Mikaelson in the family tree wasn't passed on.
And Y/N, from the age of thirteen, grew up surrounded by infinite grimoires of her lineage, listening to stories told by her grandparents and mother, finally being able to understand why she could make fire light out of nowhere or objects levitate.
But although the girl saw her magic as a salvation, it was her downfall as well.
After the death of her grandparents, her mother became lost in grief and loneliness, going to the other side of the veil a few months later, leaving Y/N alone in a world of supernatural beings who would do anything to kill her if they knew about her great-great grandmother.
It didn't take much for the story of Esther's secret daughter to be revealed, and consequently, the existence of Y/N. Beings from all over the United States began to appear to the girl, wanting her life in exchange for revenge, and then her ancestors began to haunt her dreams trying to help her, but Y/N didn't understand that, and the situation only left everything worse for her.
Until one day, a charming man wearing a suit that was too expensive to wear on any given day appeared at the door of her house, offering protection and help in exchange for explanations.
Elijah was extremely helpful after understanding what his mother did to the Bishop lineage, being grateful that Y/N had no reservations in showing him all the grimoires and diaries of her ancestors, revealing the complete truth.
And with that Y/N was welcomed by the Mikaelson family, being able to train her magic with Esther's grimoires too, despite not having any physical help, since Kol, one of the Mikaelson brothers, was sleeping in some kind of coffin and Freya was dead, or something like that.
But it was one night when Y/N was walking alone through the streets of New Orleans, eager to return to the home of who she considered family, when everything was stolen from her.
An old and strong enemy of Esther appeared accompanied by reinforcements and not even with all of Y/N's still little knowledge would she have been able to stop them, the girl had only recently started studying strong magic and blamed herself for it, despite it not being her fault.
The girl was kidnapped and taken to a warehouse far from the entrance to New Orleans, surrounded by orchards, where she was tortured for hours, or was it days?
With the little strength she had left, Y/N was able to escape a few meters away from the warehouse, and it was there that she was found by Esme, who at the time was looking for fragrant apples to decorate the counter of her temporary home with her family.
Y/N could never be able to thank Esme enough for saving her life that day, if it weren't for the eldest, she would not have survived, already extremely weak and with fractures that caused irreversible damage to her organs, which would only lead to a slow death. Therefore, when Esme arrived at his house suddenly with the young woman in his arms, Carlisle spared no time before transforming her.
And then Y/N Cullen's new life began. She knew that hiding the whole truth wasn't right, but the last thing she wanted was to put the Cullen family in danger, already putting them at risk enough just by being with them.
"Are you sure you're ready to go back there, my love?" Jasper's question interrupted Y/N's triggered memories, and the girl was momentarily grateful that, with her magic, she could block Edward's reading.
"Yes, it's time to face those fears. Pack your bags, we'll leave at nightfall." Y/N informed decisively, turning around and going to her shared room with Jasper, finally being able to take a deep breath and organize her mind.
She needed to tell them before they put a foot in New Orleans, the girl knew that Niklaus would know of her arrival within seconds and she definitely didn't want to cause any more drama.
Y/N took out her phone and opened the contacts, her finger hovering over Elijah's contact, sighing and closing her eyes tightly before locking the screen, her last meeting with the Mikaelsons wasn't one of the best; Niklaus demanded that Y/N return home, despite her type of vampire being different, while Rebekah blamed herself for not having protected her enough before that night and Elijah tried to calm the whole situation, also begging her with his eyes to return to them, they missed her company, but she knew she couldn't, not at the time.
The girl shook her head, trying to shake off the thoughts, and picked up her and Jasper's bags, starting to organize the piles of clothes that she would take for both of them.
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
"There, everyone's ready?" Emmett asked after loading all the bags into the four cars and closing the trunk of the last one. Everyone responded with a simple wave and got into their respective cars, Y/N heading to the car she would use with Jasper, getting into the passenger seat and waiting for the long journey to begin.
"Baby, what's going on? Ever since you decided to take us to New Orleans you've been quiet. You know if you don't want to go there, we can aways choose another place-" Jasper began, his right hand on Y/N's thigh as his eyes remained on the road in front of him, casting quick glances at his girlfriend.
"No Jas, I'm fine, just thinking... I wasn't completely truthful with you guys about my life before I turned." She said, looking closely at Jasper, waiting to see his reaction, but only received a nod as if to say "you can continue, I'm all ears". "I think it would be better for everyone to listen." Y/N muttered, pulling out her phone and quickly starting a group call with one person from each car.
"Y/N? Unless Jasper lost his hand, I don't see why you're calling us. Your car looks great." Rosalie was the first to answer, being in the car behind Jasper and Y/N.
Y/N let out a laugh while Jasper rolled his eyes, Rosalie could be sarcastic when she wanted.
"Hello to you too, Rose. I'm just calling you all because I think I should tell you everything before we get to New Orleans. I wasn't completely truthful in the life story I told you before." Y/N began, beginning her long and tragic life story, smiling small when she had everyone's attention.
"This is all... Wow." Alice muttered from Edward's car. "How come I didn't see any of this?"
"Like I said, I'm a witch, and even with the transformation, for some reason, my magic wasn't interrupted or broken, in fact it became stronger and I have more control over it, that's why you only see me in some of your visions and Edward only hears some of my thoughts, I decide what you can see and hear." Y/N explained, seeing a sideways smile spread across Jasper's face, he knew she didn't mention him because she didn't hide her emotions from him, she never did.
"I think it's a lot of information to digest in a short amount of time, but we understand why you kept it from us for so long and I'm grateful that you wanted to protect us all." Carlisle took the lead, followed by "uhum's" from everyone, Y/N sighed in relief.
"When we get there, are we going to stay at this Mikaelsons' house or...?" Alice asked, looking out the window at the constantly changing landscape.
"We're going to the house I grew up in, I never sold or rented it. It must be dusty, but I promise it's big enough for all of us."
"Just the fact that I won't need to sleep with Edweirdo makes it good enough for me." Emmett joked, everyone laughing simultaneously, which calmed the tension.
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
It didn't take long for the traditional "Welcome to New Orleans" sign to appear up ahead.
Y/N took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves, she couldn't imagine the Mikaelsons' reaction to seeing her again, so many years later. And she couldn't lie and say that she wasn't afraid of the Cullens' reaction to seeing what a mess her "other life" was.
The girl quickly took out her phone and opened the message group she shared with the Cullens.
"We arrived in the city that never sleeps, this is my home address, but you can just follow Jasper and I and we'll be there soon."
After sending the text, Y/N started giving Jasper directions to the entrances, trying not to look at the places they passed, as she knew she would get stuck in a memory loop. Finally, after many entrances, the girl saw the house where she spent her adolescence and early youth, smiling small as she felt her eyes fill with tears.
"It's that one over there." She said, pointing to the two-story house with a light pink fence in the front and pastel yellow curtains, just like her grandmother liked.
It wasn't long before the family found themselves unloading the suitcases from the cars and taking them to the living room, Emmett cracking jokes while Esme scolded him and Alice talked about all the clothing and shoe stores she saw on the way there.
A sound of approaching footsteps caught the family's attention, and they looked up to see a blond, green-eyed man approaching with an expression of anger and surprise.
"So it's true?" He spoke up, making Y/N freeze in the middle of the room, her hand dropping the backpack she was holding. "Y/N Bishop-Mikaelson everyone!" The man continued loudly with an ironic tone and sarcastic smile, opening his arms.
"Nik." Y/N whispered, closing her eyes tightly.
"Did you finally remember that you have a family, Y/N? Or did you come to ask for help with some nonsense you got into?" Niklaus asked rhetorically, staring at the entrance where he could see the girl's silhouette.
"Niklaus, please." Y/N spoke, turning and leaving the house, stopping a few meters away from the older man.
The hybrid stopped for a few seconds, analyzing the girl he saw as a daughter before she disappeared from his life, and the only girl Niklaus would set the world on fire if necessary, besides his brothers.
"Why did you come back?" He asked, crossing his arms, as if he was in charge of the city, which in a way is not a lie.
"We were in trouble in Forks and needed some time away." She responded with a sigh, quickly glancing at the Cullens behind her, who were paying attention to the moment without trying to interfere.
"Problems?" Nik paused for a second, a thread of worry passing through his eyes, which was quickly drowned out. "And do you find refuge here?" His nervous tone returned.
"Yes Niklaus, if you don't remember, I grew up here and my entire lineage is from here, I have the right to return to my home." Y/N argued, taking a rigid stance, pointing to her own chest.
"Oh, now New Orleans is your home? Funny how-"
"That's enough Niklaus." A second male voice came before the vision of a dark-skinned man wearing an expensive suit emerged.
"Great, a family reunion! Just what I needed right now." Y/N spoke with false excitement, rolling her eyes.
"Good to see you too Y/N." Elijah spoke, stopping next to Klaus and looking at everyone behind the Mikaelson girl, noticing their uncomfortable expressions at the sudden encounters and barbs exchanged between Nik and Y/N. "Why don't we have dinner at our house with everyone and... talk? We miss you Y/N and it would be great to meet the ones you consider family. If they're important to you, they're important to us too." He finished, sending a quick smile to the Cullens and receiving ones in return.
It would be long months.
~ Klaus knew from the moment he saw you that you had to belong to him.
~ There will most likely be a factor that attracts Klaus to you.  Perhaps your gentleness towards him, your kindness, the physical love, affection, understanding or approval he never received from his family may have drawn him to you.  Or maybe it's because he chooses to be your bodyguard because he thinks you're too sweet, unprotected, naive for this world.
Title: 'Not strong enough'
Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x Black!Goddess!Reader, one sided!Elijah x Hayley
Summary: There was always one woman Elijah couldn't say no to, no matter how much he tries.
Warnings: Fluff, Angst, Accused of cheating, A bit of smut, Soft!Elijah
He wasn't strong enough as Elijah found hisself walking to a all too familiar Manor where a all too familiar Goddess lived. Elijah had tried to forget about the eternal beauty but found it hard as he always went back to her. Elijah met the Goddess just before his siblings and him settled in the New World and just after fleeing Mikael from De Martel castle.
The Goddess let them hide with her, granting them protection. Of course Elijah fell for the Goddess three years into their stay and had became her lover and Elijah became addicted to the eternal beauty until Klaus made them leave. Elijah had ended the relationship but the Goddess allowed Elijah to summon her whenever.
Over the years Elijah tried to end it by getting different lovers like Katherine, Aya, and Celeste but every time each of those relationships ended, he went back to his Goddess. Both Klaus and Rebekah knew Elijah couldn't say no to the Goddess and never saw it as a problem until now.
"Where is Elijah?!" Hayley said walking into the Abattoir getting the attention of Rebekah and Klaus seeing how angry the hybrid was.
"He left hours ago, no idea where he went though. Why?"
"I think he is seeing someone behind my back. There is another woman's perfume on his shirts." Hayley said showing the two Originals the shirt as they caught the scent of a all too familiar scent and look at one another.
"He wouldn't."
"Nik, you and I both know he would." Rebekah said confusing Hayley watching the two as they took her to sit down and explain where Elijah could be.
"You have returned, my dear vampire." A hauntingly smooth voice say as Elijah looked to a pool of water seeing the Goddess bare in the middle of the water. Her long smooth black hair was wet sticking to her soft dark mocha skin as her gorgeous chocolate eyes watched the vampire undress.
"Always, my Goddess." Elijah said softly entering the water as there was no need for her to invite him in. Elijah was close enough to cup her face kissing her deeply. It was wrong, Elijah knew that to keep returning to the woman that captured his heart and he couldn't let go of.
As Elijah and Hayley never talked about their relationship as Hayley seemed to only call Elijah when she wanted him in her bed. While Elijah was using their relationship to keep hisself from going back to the Goddess.
"You seem trouble, my sweet." Elijah heard the woman say as her words laced with honey making harder for him to leave her. This made Elijah wonder just how many men fell for the mocha beauty and her honey sweet voice as not once had the Goddess seek the Original out.
"No I am just thinking....caught up in my thoughts."
"I see." The Celestial being said stepping out of the pool with Elijah following after as like before, Elijah was in her bed between her soft thighs as if he never left.
"Where were you?" Elijah stopped hearing Hayley as he turned on his bedroom light seeing the female hybrid sitting in a chair in his room glaring. Elijah put down his suit jacket and thought over his words carefully before looking at Hayley again.
"Seeing a friend."
"You fucking lier! Rebekah and Klaus told me about Y/N, that Goddess you were seeing in the past!" Hayley shouted as Elijah swallowed looking away not out of guilt but shame, shame that he couldn't let go of the past. Hayley was angry with Elijah that he had the nerve to keep seeing some woman.
"So you rather see some whore than stay loyal to your girlfriend." Once those words left Hayley's lips Elijah growled lowly as his eyes darken as he stared down Hayley.
"Don't call her that. Last time I checked you got angry with me when I called you my girlfriend. You told me that we are friends with benefits nothing more." Elijah said as Hayley frowned crossing her arms looking at Elijah.
While yes Hayley told Elijah they were only friends with benefits and that was all they were going to be, she still felt like Elijah should have stayed loyal to her.
"Yes, but why are you seeking out another?"
"Why are you going to marry Jackson?" Elijah said watching Hayley glare then pushed pass him growling.
"Fine then we are done. Have fun with your whore."
It didn't take the Mikaelsons long to notice how Elijah stayed away from Hayley and the hybrid being overly affectionate with Jackson trying to make the Original jealous. But things had when Elijah left the morning that Hayley was to marry Jackson making the others that wasn't Klaus and Rebekah worried to where the Original was.
"Elijah.....my love." Y/N breathed feeling Elijah's mouth move along her mocha skin pulling her closer enjoying the feeling of her soft skin against his. Elijah was drowning in her scent and touch as she moved her hands along his bare back.
"Yes, baby?" Elijah muttered against her neck rolling his hips just right making her see stars as she tighten her hold on Elijah.
"Please....more." Y/N gaspped getting her vampire lover to thrust roughly in her pulling a loud moan from her as she arched. Elijah pressed his body against hers as for the the rest of the night he gave the Goddess a world of pleasure.
Elijah returned home but he wasn't alone as he brought Y/N with him getting Klaus's and Rebekah's attention. Klaus was throwing a gala for the Factions and to see Elijah walk in with Y/N on his arm, of course the Goddess looked breath taking stunning.
"Is that her?"
"Yes, Hayley." Klaus answered watching Elijah with Y/N as the Goddess was dressed in gorgeous backless dress that compliment her skin tone. Hayley hated it seeing Elijah kissing the woman that he had kept seeing, the Goddess was indeed beautiful but Hayley hated that Elijah didn't even try to fight for Hayley.
"So he had loved this Goddess since you guys first met her?"
"Yes. If Elijah realized it or not he was always going to return to the beauty." Kol said smirking seeing Elijah dancing with Y/N having his face buried in her neck.
"It seems he is staying with her this time." Rebekah says seeing Hayley huffed angrily before find Jackson to lay on affection to get Elijah's attention. Elijah had no interest in Hayley as he was completely focused on his lover.
"It seems your wolf wishes for your attention."
"She isn't mine. I belong to only one woman and is you." Elijah says softly as Y/N smiled eyes twinkling cupping his face.
"And I you."
The night went on with Elijah having Y/N met people and her catching up with his siblings before taking her up to his bedroom afterwards. Elijah nuzzled Y/N's neck as she sat in his shirt leaning back against his chest watching sun rise.
"I love you."
"And I you, dear vampire." Y/N said softly her eye bright as Elijah kissed her skin. Y/N rarely layed with man yet Elijah won her over and she adored the vampire.
"Not letting go this time?" Y/N asked looking away from the sun rise to Elijah as he smiled kissing her softly.
"No, not until my dieing breath."
"Good." Y/N said kissing Elijah's nose pulling a soft smile from Elijah and they both continued watch the sun rise as they enjoyed their time together.
Old Friends and Old Flames (7/?)
Pairing: Elijah x Female!Reader / Stefan x Female!Reader (formerly) / Klaus x Female!Reader (formerly)
Warnings: Fluff, angst, mild swearing
Word count: 3.6k
Part Summary: While hiding out at the Salvatore manor, Y/N and Elena grow closer. Elena has a million questions about Y/N’s past, being one of the oldest vampires she’s met. Y/N reminisces some of the ups and downs of her relationship with Elijah.
Y/N
In the Salvatore manor, Elena and I relax on the couch, reminiscing my centuries of experiences.
“You met Stefan in the 80s right?”
I hum as the memories cross my mind in flashes. “Los Angeles, 1983. I started the year in New York and finished it in California. I like to think I hit a peak in the 80s.” I snicker.
“And you were a groupie for Bon Jovi?”
“I prefer the term ‘friend,’ thanks,” I joke. “But yeah, I was on tour with them. Met them in Chicago and stuck around for a bit. They were fun.”
“That must’ve been unreal!” She gushes.
“A close second to the 70s for the best decade in my marathon of a life.” I rise from my seat and zoom over to the bar cart. If we’re going to be reliving the past, I’ll need a stiff drink.
She furrows her brows. “Really? Why the 70s?”
“The fashion, music, traveling, and it was the decade I certainly had the most... worldly experiences,” I chuckle, recalling my more eccentric moments. “Everyone loosened up! They were so uptight before.”
“Even Elijah?” Elena smirks.
I settle back down beside her with sigh. “I actually didn’t see him in those years. I was always with Klaus. Elijah and I had broken up in the 60s but started the decade strong. In fact, we were perhaps the best we had ever been. We reached our prime in 1964, the same year the Beatles came to America, but it was also the year we broke it off. We were actually living in New York City too. I was a student at Columbia, studying English, American Literature. One of many degrees I’ve accumulated.”
“What happened for you two have a falling out if you were so good?”
“I... I wanted...” I struggle to find the right word.
“More?” She predicts.
I nod. “To say the least. The entire world was spinning, moving forward, and I was standing still... We were stuck, frozen, as society evolved all we could do was adapt. Then, I met Antony and that jump-started the collapse of our Rome.”
I can’t remember the last time I said his name out loud. It feels... almost like a distant dream.
“Antony?”
I snicker, bringing my whiskey to my lips. “He’s perhaps the only man in the entire world Elijah hates most, directly following his father, Mikael, of course. Good thing he’s old and gray now or Elijah would likely have his head on a spike. He was another English student at Columbia. We had a couple classes together and became close.”
Elena’s jaw drops as she perks up. “Elijah was jealous?”
“For fair reasons in his defense.” I shrug. “Let’s just say Tony and I’s friendship was a tad more intimate than most. He was...” I sigh, remembering Antony vividly. I remember that summer clearly. “He was brilliant, gorgeous, and his personality was nothing like Elijah’s. He was political, creative, outspoken, ambitious, a complete wild card. He could’ve been the poster child for a college student in the 60s.”
“So wait, you cheated?”
I look at her with a narrowed gaze. I wouldn’t exactly call it ‘cheating’. “Elijah and I were already having troubles and Tony was there for me when all of the other Mikaelsons, my friends, were either in Europe or daggered. In my defense, Elijah isn’t exactly noble when it comes to his list of lovers. When we were on again off again, he found love elsewhere. In summary, I didn’t cheat per say, Tony and I didn’t do anything until after Elijah and I had already called it quits. Yet, Elijah didn’t need any evidence before he started to accuse me of such. Antony was going to join some other students from Columbia to participate in Freedom Summer in Mississippi and asked me to go. The summer of 1964 was an utter mess. It all started with a week-long visit at our friends Richard and Di’s house...”
May 1964 The Hamptons...
Following the professionally made four-course meal Di presented for us guests, everyone scatters about the dining room and parlor for cigars and drinks. I sit quietly at the end of the table listening to Simon and Garfunkel spin on the turntable and sip on a martini. Both pair nicely with the steady chatter of the dinner guests. A vacation in Sagaponack sounded like a marvelous idea. Then Elijah decided to stay in the city for reasons he refused to share, though I have my suspicions.
“Y/N,” Viviana calls from the down table. She sits with Di and Samantha. I’m quite fond of those two. Viviana is a real piece of work.
I hum.
“Where’s Elijah?”
I could smack that smug smirk off her face. I smile charmingly despite my urges. “He’s away on business,” I explain, tapping my cigarette on the ashtray. “He’ll be joining us on Friday.”
“Splendid!” Di remarks beside her.
I’m sure it is for Viviana considering she’s been eyeing Elijah since Di and Richard introduced us all last summer. The Hamptons hoity-toity bitch.
“Are those your plans for the summer? Waiting around for Elijah?” Viviana inquires.
I tilt my head to the side, narrowing my gaze at her. “I’m not waiting around. I’m here aren’t I?”
She snickers, wearing the same smug smirk.
I down the remains of my dirty martini and take another drag of my cigarette before rising from my seat. As I pass behind her on the way to the kitchen, I lean down and not so quietly whisper in her ear. “Where’s your husband? Do you wait for him while he’s fucking his secretary?”
Viviana gasps and whips her head around, but doesn’t challenge my accusation. I believe Di and Samantha nearly spit out their drinks. Was it classy? No, but was it worth it? A hundred percent and I would do it again.
In the kitchen, I make myself another martini and frankly hide from the rest of the guests. I much rather be tucked away in here with the cooking staff while the stuck-up people mingle out there.
The side door leading out to the driveway creaks open and stumbles in no other than Antony. He appears so slick in his perfectly tailored navy suit, crisp red tie, and combed-over hair. The perfect New York journalist type climbing the office ladder at The New York Times. I can only imagine he’s as high as a kite under those Ray-Bans. He carries a not so discreet bottle of whiskey in a paper bag in one hand and his suit jacket in the other over his shoulder.
“Jesus,” I chuckle. “What happened to you?”
He shuts the door and spins on his heels. “Well hello, Cupcake!” He greets, tugging at the knot of his tie. “Did I miss anything fun?”
“I don’t use this word lightly, but Viviana can be a real cunt.” I roll my eyes, bringing my martini to my lips.
“That she is.” He crosses the room toward me, snatching a clean glass from the cabinet on the way. “So no?”
“Nothing worth your while.”
He leans down and we kiss each other on the cheek before he takes the seat beside me.
“I didn’t know you were coming,” I state.
“And miss out on one of these lovely soirees? Never,” he remarks sarcastically.
“You hate parties like this. What did you call them? A dick-measuring contest equivalent?” I recall.
He chuckles, rather proud of himself. “The wealthiest of New York gathering at their summer homes and comparing their assets, dick-measuring contest.”
“What delayed your arrival?” I inquire as he pours himself a glass of whiskey.
“The boss kept me behind to discuss the final details of my trip to Mississippi to cover the protests,” he explains a matter-of-factly.
I take a sip of my drink and allow the vodka to rest on my tongue. The sting counteracts the one in my chest at the thought of him amongst the chaos this summer.
“You know...” He shifts closer to me. “There is still room in the van if you’ve changed your mind.”
I nod slowly, my eyes shifting to my drink. “I’ve considered it.”
He grins. “And?”
“It’s not that easy,” I laugh softly. “I have to... I have to consider Elijah and-”
Antony leans in, resting his arm on the back of my chair. “You always consider him, but does he ever consider you?”
Two days later...
The group is gathered outside on the beach for the day. There’s swimming, sunbathing, badminton, football, and plenty of cocktails. Everyone is entertained by these activities and occupy a decent amount of the beach. Di and I lounge in the sun while Antony and Richard man the grill a few feet away. Well, Richard mans the grill. Antony co-pilots and sips on a beer while he tells a few stories from his frequent press meetings at the White House.
“...And LBJ said, ‘no Dwight, I’m the Texas sheet cake!’ You give me Texas and you can have Lady Bird!” He recalls, earning an amused reaction from the three of us.
Suddenly, the radio on the picnic table changes songs, and “Twist and Shout” by the Beatles begins.
I perk up from my towel. “Oh, I love this song!”
“Turn it up!” Antony hollers over to the few people chatting at the table. He sets down his beer and jogs over to me.
He offers me his hands and practically flings me up off the towel. The two of us begin to dance, earning the amused attention of some of our friends. Antony places a gentle hand on my waist, the other holding my hand. Playfully, he dips me at one point.
“Bravo, you!” Di claps.
“Marvelous moves, truly!” Richard laughs.
“Shake it up baby now!” Antony and I sing to each other as we dance about. “You know you look so good!”
“Good afternoon,” a familiar voice interjects.
The four of us follow the sound and my eyes land on Elijah standing just a few feet away.
My lips part in surprise. “Honey...”
“Pardon my late arrival. The traffic was wretched,” he explains, keeping a calm demeanor but I know better.
“Welcome!” Richard greets, leaving his station to shake Elijah’s hand.
_____________________________
Later that day...
“We were just dancing!” I shout as Elijah continues to unpack.
He scoffs. “You can truly be so naive, Y/N!”
“We’re just friends! How many times-”
He slams his hands down on the dresser and spins to face me. “He’s infatuated with you! It’s clear as day! He watches you like a hawk!”
“He knows I’m with you!” I try to reason with him.
He clenches his jaw, returning to his task. “That may have meant something a decade ago but the world is vastly changing, marriage means very little nowadays.”
I laugh mockingly. “So now we’re married? Last I checked I don’t recall any ceremony or proper proposal.”
“People assume. Allow them.”
“Oh right, of course! As I’ve done for the last five hundred years!”
He huffs, tossing his head back. “Y/N!”
There’s a pause in our yelling. It’s all we ever do now, fight, ever since we moved to New York permanently.
“He asked me to go with him to Mississippi...” I confess in a much calmer tone. “For the protests.”
Elijah pauses but keeps his back to me. “And? Will you accompany him?”
“Would you care if I did?”
“Of course, I would.” He expresses over his shoulder.
“Then, prove it,” I practically beg, crossing the short distance to him. “Prove that you care the slightest about me!”
He turns, leaning against the dresser. “And how would you have me do that?”
“Instead of just calling me ‘your wife’ to save face and blend in, actually man up and ask me!”
For a moment, I see a hint of hope in his eyes. Then, his sight falls from me to the floor with disappointment.
“See, I knew it.” Frustrated, I start toward the door.
“It doesn’t mean I love you any less!” He argues.
Aggravated, I halt and spin to face him. “Then why won’t you marry me?”
“It’s complicated! I-”
A knock on the bedroom door interrupts us. Then, it cracks open.
“Y/N?” Antony pops his head in before he enters. He glances between Elijah and I. “Sorry... Di’s asking for you. Everyone wants us to sing a duet on the piano.”
“Do they really or are you just missing my wife?” Elijah remarks bitterly.
“Elijah!” I scold him. Then, I look to Antony with a weak smile. “Of course, one moment please.”
He nods, keeping a watchful and cautious eye on Elijah, fear not too far from the surface. Once he disappears from our presence, my eyes fall to the distance corner of the floor.
Elijah sighs. “Darling-”
“500 hundred years, that’s how long I’ve waited for you... When is enough enough?” I ask, lifting my gaze to meet his. “I’m going with him... doesn’t mean I love you any less.” I start toward the door again, this time I’m eager to be gone.
“He’s a human!” Elijah argues. “Why waste your time? One day you’ll wake up, he’ll be much older and he’ll wonder why you haven’t aged. What then?” “Do you have any idea-”
“You don’t own me!” I burst. “Maybe you had once, but not anymore!”
Elijah peers at me with a torn expression and frankly I lack sympathy, especially when he acts like a pompous asshole.
“Goodbye Elijah.” I swing open the bedroom door and go to rejoin the party.
“So you went?” Elena concludes.
I down the remainder of my wine. “I did.”
“After hundreds of years...”
“Elijah gave me an ultimatum.” I shrug. “The love was gone. Plus, this wasn’t our first ‘break up.’ He was treating me like a possession being stolen, not as a person whom he loved leaving him by their own accord.”
“That must’ve been hard.”
“One of the most difficult decisions I had ever made.” I zoom over the cart and pour myself some whiskey. “But also the most riveting and freeing. It was the beginning of me truly standing up for myself against the Mikaelsons, especially Elijah. I still look fondly on that year. I like to say ‘Freedom Summer’ has a personal meaning too. It was the first time I was truly free and independent in centuries.”
Elena shifts on the couch, tucking her legs under. “Whatever happened to Tony? Did you ever look for him? Check on him?”
“Oh geez,” I laugh, sitting back down. “As intense as it began, it also ended with its dramatics. We broke up in the fall after an intense love-affair in the summer. He ended up getting a job in the press office at the White House because of his work and moved to D.C.. Last I heard he was living in New York again, but that was ages ago.”
“What then? What did you do?”
“As soon as Klaus heard of what happened he came searching for me.” A smile creeps up on my lips as my eyes fall to my lap. “He eventually found me, obviously. We were reunited in 1969, traveled together throughout the 70s. We knew Elijah was settled in the country of England so we mainly spent our time seeing the small islands of Greece, France, all over the Mediterranean. It was very therapeutic after the many changes I experienced in the 60s. Then, it was 1980, Klaus joined Elijah for a bit to check in and I was off back to New York. Bon Jovi happened, then I met Klaus and Stefan in Los Angeles.”
“When did you see Elijah again?”
My eyes roll as a sigh falls. “I was in a bar called Cross Keys with some friends watching a band perform. I was still in my ‘punk rocker chick’ faze. As you can tell, it hasn’t exactly left me.” I joke, gesturing to my still intact style.
I inhales between her teeth, making a hissing sound. “I will admit, you and Elijah are...”
“An odd pair?” I giggle. “I remind him to chill out and he keeps me on the straight and narrow when needed.” My mind flashes back to the night I saw him again. It was like we were meeting all over again. “I remember when I first saw him. It had been almost exactly twenty-one years since we had last seen each other.”
Elena leans forward, intrigued. “What happened?!”
My eyes fall to my lap as I smirk. “The world stood still again, but not in a bad way as I felt before... It was electric.”
July 1985, Cross Keys, London...
I bop my head as the band does their rendition of “Radio Ga Ga.” They’re not bad, but they’re no Queen. I should know, I’ve seen them live over a dozen times. I hop down from the bar top table and tell my friends I’m going to get another drink.
The bar is packed and I have to weave between bodies. It takes me a handful of minutes to just reach the bar. I tap my nails against the counter as I wait for the bartender to get to me. In the meantime, the band starts to play the theme from St. Elmo’s Fire. It’s the movie everyone’s talking about. I will admit Rob Lowe is kinda hot, might just have to sire him.
“What can I get ya?” The bartender hollers over the music and chatter.
I lean over the edge of the bar. “Hey! Another rum and Coke please! Heavy on the rum!”
“Put it on my tab,” a dude requests beside me. “Thank you.”
I scoff. This wouldn’t be the first time a guy has thought buying me a drink would get to go home with him. I push off the counter and spin on my heels to face the guy. “If you think buying me a drink will-” When my eyes are met with the ones I loved for over 500 years, my jaw drops. “Holy... shit...”
“Evening Y/N,” Elijah greets so casually as though it hasn’t been over twenty years. “You look marvelous. I love what you’ve done with your hair.” He eyes me up and down with his signature smirk. “Niklaus told me you’ve joined the Punk Movement. I now understand his meaning.”
My heart begins to race and I struggle to form a thought. He remains looking as Elijah-esk as ever. Perfectly tailored suit, the black slick shoes, the combed over hair.
My brows scrunch together. How is this even possible? “How did... How did...”
“I’ve always known your whereabouts,” he tells me calmly, bring his brandy to his lips. “The vampires who are so desperate for my family’s approval are decent at reporting back to me. I’ve simply been giving you the freedom you so desperately desired.”
My eyes grow wide... the... the... the whole time?! “So... So this whole time...” I stammer. “Even when Klaus and I were-”
“He wrote to me,” he answers vaguely, but I get the point. “Are you disappointed to see me?” He asks with a narrowed gaze, as if he’s studying me.
“No!” I say a little too quickly. “I’m just... I’m just surprised is all. It’s been over twenty years.”
“And you haven’t aged a day,” he grins, knowing its a dumb joke.
“Ha..ha... Good one,” I tease. “Is Nik with you?” I start to scan the area for him.
Elijah eyes his drink as he sets it down. “He’s in America.”
“And Rebekah?” I ask, wonder if Nik has changed his mind.
He sighs. “Still Daggered.”
I roll my eyes with a huff. “Of course... and Kol?”
“The same, I’m afraid.”
I worry for all of them, Nik included. “Do you think he’ll ever forgive them?”
“In time...” He nods and meets my gaze. “For now his trust lies with you and me alone.”
“Always and forever, right?” I smirk.
“Do you truly believe the vow in which your speak?”
I sway my head side to side. “Whenever you and I are... at odds, your brother has been there for me. If Kol and Rebekah had the chance, they would be too. At the end of the day you all are the last remaining people from my life before... this. You’re the only ones who know the whole truth. No matter what happens between you and me Elijah, I will still stand by your family. My connection to you goes beyond our relationship.”
“You’re quite right, it does indeed go beyond us. You are a Mikaelson, Y/N,” he states with the utmost certaintiy. “You may not bare our name but after all these centuries and for the rest to come, you are one of us.”
“Quilty by association,” I snicker.
“Protected by us,” he corrects.
“Even you?” I question.
He steps closer, starring into my eyes intently. “Especially me.”
I swallow hard and take another big gulp from my drink. “When I saw him I honestly relived. I was free, but I wasn’t complete. I had my rebellious twenty-years, a mid-eternity crisis if you will.”
“So you guys got back together?” She pieces together.
“Not slowly either, it was all at once...” I describe as the memories come flooding back. “It was intense.”
Stefan enters the room, backpack over his shoulder. “Ready?” He asks Elena.
“Yeah!” She perks up and fetches her backpack.
I snicker at the sight of me pretending to be a teenager. “Honestly, I don’t understand how you still do this whole high school thing over and over.”
“I could say the same about you tolerating the Mikaelsons for that long,” he fires back playfully.
I narrow my gaze at him and laugh sarcastically. “Ha...ha...ha... good one, Stef.”
“Bye, Y/N,” he smirks.
“Later, Babes,” I wink.
Elena spins on her heels. “Hey, do you think we could hang out later? I have a few questions.”
I smile, I will admit, I’m somewhat warming up to her. “Sure thing.”
COMING SOON My Mikaelson Boys.
Klaus x female reader.
When the Mikaelsons fled from their father they had a secret weapon to keep hidden, a witch who had studied and learned directly underneath their mother. This witch had grown up with the mikaelson, she was like family, and she loved the mikaelson siblings like they were her own. And when mikael by some miracle managed to track them down to New Orleans that witch stayed behind, she gave her life for them, and in doing so the mikaelsons lost not only a friend but family.
That witch was Y/N, but what the siblings did not know was that Y/N did not die by mikaels hand. No Mikael wanted to torture his children, and so instead he had witch cast a spell on her keeping here alive and in New Orleans indefinitely, and then he compelled her, the one person his children loved and trusted maybe even more than each other, to forget everything she knew about the family, so that should they ever return
They would find that the girl they once called family, had no memory of them at all.
Stay tuned for the first part of My Mikaelsons Boys. And send me an ask to be added to the tag list so you can be notified the second it updates!
Part One. Part Two. Part Three.
Tumblr media
He attempted many ways of apologizing without having to verbally admit anything. Klaus wrote a letter, then two, then three, then four, then gave up when he’d ripped out every page in the notebook out of frustration with his lack of words. Then he tried thinking up some form of speech, one he could memorize then recite to her. He fantasized of preforming it with the ending of her running into his arms and them riding of into the sunset to live their happily ever after again.
But even that was a bust. He couldn’t think of anything, nor could his mouth agree with his brain. Each word seemed to contradict one another. Every replacement he made for the words that clashed only had the same affect. He tried and tried until all the words jumbled up into a heap of disappointment.
“I’m sorry.” He muttered softly, like Y/n could hear him even though she wasn’t there, as he rubbed his forehead. All Klaus wanted was his wife back but to do so, he needed to apologize, which meant admitting quite a lot of things. It became a challenge. Especially with Klaus being as stubborn as he was.
To atone for everything he’d done wrong under the influence of Aurora would require something much greater than just “I’m sorry”. Allowing Aurora the power of having him under her influence at all deserved thousands of apologies greater than those two meek words.
He needed to think.
Klaus went outside, breathing in the New Orleans’ air. He felt much more at peace, but not because he could breathe the fresh air. As he closed his eyes, listening to the gentleness of the serene night, controlling his breathing and taking in the world with an empty mind, he imagined his happiness, his home.
“Do you like it?” Klaus snuck up behind her, placing his hands over hers on the railing, lacing their fingers, and leaned into her. She rested her head back onto his shoulder.
“I love it.”
1918 was a good year. It was the one before his father drove them out of New Orleans. He’d been proud of the town they’d made, and he promised Y/n that it was there that they would reign. She kept him grounded, and for the first time in forever, he was ready to be the good brother.
He lifted his arms, lifting hers as well, and wrapped them around her frame, holding her closer. Craning his neck, he peppered kisses along her neck before reaching her ear and whispering, “It’s ours, my love.”
She moved her head to face him, causing him to move his own back a bit in order for them to make eye contact. “Are you being serious? I swear, Klaus, if this is some bloody joke-” He chuckled and cut her off by pressing his lips to hers. Her words were almost instantly forgotten as their lips molded together passionately.
The need for air separated them but gifted Niklaus the opportunity to speak. “I promise you, love, I’m being serious. This,” he let go of one of her hands and extended his newly freed arm to the world around them, “this is ours. It is mine, and it is yours. This is the place where we shall be safe from harm forever. It’s a place we can finally call, home.”
He promised her New Orleans was a permanent setting. Only a year later, Mikael showed up and turned his promise to shit. Y/n assured him with a teary eyed grin that it would be alright. Pressing kisses to his face and reminding him that they were alive, she promised it wasn’t his fault. He’d asked what they were going to do and she merely smiled.
She told him they’d wing it.
The apology was ready, but not in a sense he had confidence in. He left his home feeling a lack of fortitude but continued forward nonetheless. It was time he owned up to the promise he lovingly made long ago and atoned to the mistakes he blindly made recently.
Klaus decided he would wing it.
Tumblr media
“Niklaus.” Elijah greeted emotionlessly. “I’ll retrieve Y/n.” He returned inside but didn’t come back out. Instead, Y/n took his place, but stood further from Rosseau’s than he was to avoid them hearing their conversation.
“It’s nice to see you ag-”
“Please,” she couldn’t bring her eyes to his, at least, not that very second. They were so full with her sadness threatening to seep out in the form as little droplets that would slide down her skin. “Just...get on with it.”
He understood the lack of ill-intentions behind her words and urgency. A calming breath filled, then left, his chest. And then, he obliged. “I...I was uh...I was dumb and... And I should’ve been a better husband and...” His nerves destroyed whatever bravery he had left in “winging” his apology. Sweaty palms, dry mouth, shaky hands and butterfly filled stomach, how was he ever going to get through this?
Moments had gone by and the tension grew thicker. He could see that Y/n began to grow annoyed, understandable with his drawn out stalling. Klaus had to say something. Preferably something that wouldn’t worsen his situation.
But he was Klaus.
“I understand that I hurt you-”
“Understand that you hurt me? You have yet to even ask me how I felt! You can’t empathize with something you only know one side of.”
Her words were true. The only thing he could think to say were her own words, too far late too matter though. “H-how did you feel?”
“You want to know how I felt, Nik?”
“Yes.”
“Let me ask you this; have you any idea the pain it caused me to even think about moving on from you? Hayley told me it was more than likely going to happen one day and that I should try when the time comes that I feel as though the ache of not having you in my life is too much for even me to bear, but I cannot picture myself with another man. I cannot fathom a life in which I am wrongfully torn from you, or torn from you at all, generally speaking.”
“Does that-”
“No,” She winced and clenched her eyes shut, “Klaus.” She opened her eyes and made eye contact with him. He saw the sorrow that drowned in her e/c orbs, and his heart broke a little more. “That does not mean I’m willing to just forgive and forget. I want to be with you again, I want to be by your side forever and always, just like I vowed to be but-”
“We can go home-”
“Can you just listen for one fucking second!” She cried out, disbelief strewn across her face. “I have been by your side whenever you needed me to be, even in times where you were too pigheaded to admit that you needed someone. I may never be confident in my ability to brave life without you, but hopefully, I never have to.”
A sigh left her mouth, “So...if you have something to say, do so now...please.” Their eyes reconnected as she waited in anticipation for him to speak his mind.
“I...I don’t...” He couldn’t think of anything. “Just...please, come back with me?”
She scoffed and turned away, eyes red and face scrunched with pain. He fucked it up more. She believed in him. She believed he’d fix it. And so did he.
Then, faster than the speed of light, it hit him. It hit him like a bus, or an anvil over his head like in a cartoon, a lightbulb over his head and exclamation points around his noggin. “Wait!”
Y/n paused but didn’t turn to face him.
“I- I don’t need you to come back with me. I don’t need to go there with you either. I just need...to be with you.” He shrugged with watery eyes and a shaky voice. “I was stupid, blind and mulish. Cowardly, if you will.” He threw his hands up then let them drop to his side.
“I will never forgive myself for hurting you, even if we move on from this, some part of me will always carry the guilt of every time we quarrel. It is unlike us to be so far gone for so long, however, it has opened my eyes to see...” he sucked in a breath, “to see that this time, among all others, I did the unforgivable.”
Klaus sped in front of Y/n, catching her off guard slightly. He took her hands in his. Though she didn’t fight him, she still avoided his eyes. “When I married you, I vowed to be there for you, through thick and thin, I vowed to be loyal and trusting and honest, just as you have been to me, but I failed you. I failed you, love, when I did the worst thing a husband could do.”
“Well...” she laughed lightly, sniffling through a few fallen tears, “it wasn’t the worst, but it was a fucking shit thing to do.”
They chuckled together and her eyes finally met his. “I love you, Y/n, I really do. I look at you and I see the woman of my dreams, my world...I promised you New Orleans was our home, but, when I look at you, I see my true home. Not some silly little place from a time in history, but the woman who I want to spend my immortality with. The woman whom I never deserved yet was chosen by, of all people, to spend her immortality with.”
“And I’d do it again.” She smiled sweetly, drawing a smile of his own. “Even if you are a stubborn bastard,” he held a sheepish grin, “I still love you.”
Even if Mikael ruined Klaus’ promise of a home, he learned that the promise wasn’t about New Orleans. Taking a poetic turn, he came to the realization that she was his home, and he, hers. And now, he was finally coming home.
Always and Forever
Prologue: In the Beginning
The Originals x Reader
This was something that I thought of a while ago and I thought, “I need to write this down.” I want to try and make this into a series, so hopefully writer’s block doesn’t kick in and I never finish this story.
Also, this story does mention deaths of family.
Warnings: mentions of family deaths, spoilers (potentially, if you are still watching the TV series)
I hope you all enjoy! :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See, I never thought I’d live past twenty.
Where I come from, some get half as many.
Nowadays, people are living to be a hundred years old.
If I’m being honest, I wish that is where I could have stopped.
One hundred good years and I would have been fine.
Living for eternity, that’s a different story.
It all started many years ago, a little over a thousand I believe?
The specifics of time don’t quite matter, at least not to me.
When you’ve got more than a thousand years behind you and millions more ahead, time doesn’t always come into mind.
Anyhow, I digress.
I guess I should tell you when it started.
A thousand years ago, I was but a weary traveler moving around from forest to forest. That was just the way that my family and I had lived life. We did not feel bound to one spot like another tribes or villages did. They kept the mentality of hunting and gathering in their minds and lifestyles. We were always moving. Always searching,
Although I loved my family, I came to hate this way of living, especially after what killed them. Looking back, I wish I had convinced all of them to find a place to settle down like the other families that we would pass by.
We had just traveled all day and night in order to follow a herd of buffalo when we came across a small village. You know it now as Mystic Falls. I call it Hell.
The people there had been kind to us. They let us stay for a night in order to get our strength back up for the next day’s travel. It was there where we met them.
Some call them legends. Others monsters.
Vampires.
Werewolves.
Witches.
But when I first met the children of the Mikaelson family, I knew them as human.
There was Mikael, the patriarch of the family and his wife, Esther. She was like me, a witch. She had always been a little more interested in me than other witches we had meet. I wasn’t like most witches, who drew their power from nature or ancestors. My magic always just seemed to flow through me, continuously running from a never-ending tap. Back then, I thought it was weird that I never learned any magic from her, but looking back now, I think I’m happy that I didn’t.
Then there were the children.
The oldest was Finn, who I often quarreled with whenever left in the same vicinity as him. Everyone said it was because Esther would keep an eye on me, which gave him the wrong impression, but I choose to believe it was because I was naturally better at performing magic than he was.
Next came Elijah, the first to greet my family we arrived. His charming looks and calm demeanor had my mother and sister swooning over him. Even my father was impressed with him.
Klaus was also a charmer when he met my family. His smile just seemed to pull everyone in except for me. Every smile sent my way was met with an eye roll. He tried his best to pull me into his mischievous, dare say, dark ways, but I chose to stay out of it. Why get pulled into something that would only last a day?
Kol was just as bad as Klaus. My sister was practically sewed into his arm from the way that she held onto him. Every words, every smile, every look, she was held tight by him, even though he looked like he wasn’t trying to catch her attention.
Rebekah had always been my favorite. Even though she had been the only female Mikaelson child that I had met that day, it felt like she understood me. While Klaus and Kol were persistent in their attempts to pull me into their troublemaking ways, Rebekah seemed to always be by my side to fend them off.
Then there was little Henrik. Sweet, innocent Henrik. When I had first met the youngest Mikaelson, he had surprised me with a flower he had found in the tree line right outside the village. His words had taken me aback with how direct they were. Thinking about it now makes me smile and laugh a little.
“One day, I’m going to marry you.”
Just as quickly as we had met the Mikaelson’s, my family and I were gone. Not even a day later, we were back on our feet and on our way to follow our herd of food.
It was when night fell did my family realize our mistake.
It wasn’t even supposed to happen. We were supposed to be safe. I had created a protection barrier around all of us, created by tracing a circle around our sleeping area and enchanted it. A barrier that only the hand of powerful magic could break.
It had happened so quickly. None of us had seen it coming. Where we had traveled from, we had only heard myths about the shapeshifters. The ones that only changed during a full moon. We never thought we would ever see one in real life.
The werewolf struck right when the moon was at it’s peak and leaves from the trees above us had opened to let in the pale moonlight. First, it took my father, who had been standing watch for us. He didn’t even have time to warn us before he was dragged into the night.
It was when my mother screamed in agony and pain did I wake up. By then, it was already too late. I had opened my eyes to see my mother get thrown to the side, my family already laying dead around me.
I was the last one left.
When the werewolf attacked me, I... did nothing.
I did not fight back. I did not run away. I had sat there as the monster came racing towards me. I could feel the tears of pain running down my face, but could not seem to scream as the monster started to tear me apart. I cried even when I started to lose feeling in my body. As I laid on my back, eyes open and gazing at the stars, I wait for the sweet release of death to come and take me. I could not live in this world without my family. I would not. They were all I had.
But death never came. Even after the werewolf had finished attacking us and wandered back into the dark curtains of the forest, death never came. And it still didn't come as the dark canvas of the sky started to ombré into a beautiful shade of red, then orange, and finally a light blue.
Even when I tried to will it, I could not die. It was like life and death had decided to play a sick joke on me. Death would not allow me to cross over but life would let me continue on with a permanent reminder of one of the most devastating moments of my life.
When I finally closed my eyes, I could hear faint footsteps coming closer. Then I could hear Elijah’s voice call out for his brothers as those footsteps became louder and faster. I could hear Klaus call my name as I was lifted into the air, strong arms carrying me back in the direction of their village. I assume it was Klaus holding me, but I guess I’ll never be certain as I had kept my eyes closed the entire time.
I could hear Rebekah’s pained cries and Henrik’s confused speech as the Mikaelson brothers and myself reached the village. But still, I did not open my eyes.
I believe I was finally able to sleep when I heard Esther’s voice beckoning her sons to bring my family into a small hut, but it still did not mean death.
I awoke a week later, my skin riddled with scars, some wounds opening again when I finally moved. I was the only survivor.
Having no where else to go, I stayed with the Mikaelsons, growing closer with Elijah, Klaus, Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik. They became more than just friends to me. They were now my family.
But where there is happiness, tragedy lurks behind it, hiding in its shadow.
It wasn’t even a month later that the Mikaelsons lost Henrik to another werewolf attack.
The family was never the same after that.
I assume you know the rest of the story from here, but if not, I guess I can summarize it a little.
Mikael asked Esther to perform dark magic to ensure that none of his children died ever again, thus creating the first vampires, The Originals.
They became creatures that could never be killed, the strongest of them all. The ones that would live for eternity.
After a thousands years on this Earth, I blame myself for not stopping Esther. The Mikaelson children were forced to become something so monstrous, so destructive, in order to protect themselves. Over the years, I watched this curse break their souls, pull bits of humanity from them as their hunger for blood and protectiveness for each other danced in circles around them.
The night that the Mikaelsons became immortal was the same night I became immortal as well, except, this was for a different reason.
You could say it was like a page out of a horror movie. The young girl longing to have magic to make her life better or more interesting is visited by the Devil and trades her soul to have everything she could every want.
That night, after the Mikaelsons were turned, I was approached by a man. He emerged from the darkness of the forest, his demeanor calm and collected, his hands behind his back as he came closer.
“I have a proposition for you, young witch. Take a walk with me.”
This man led me away from the village and further into the forest. We walked for what felt like eternity when he finally stopped. The only light in the forest was provided by the moon.
“This is the very spot you and your family were attacked, young witch. Now, it seems as though your new family is facing a similar predicament. Do you want to try and save them?”
Of course I agreed. I had come to fallen in love with the Mikaelson siblings.. They were the only things I had left.
“I only need one thing.”
“My soul?”
“Your life.”
I was, confused. My life?
“I can see that you are perplexed. Let me explain.You see, Esther is performing a spell that can make her children become immortal. They can never die. What purpose does you growing old serve when you want to be able to be there to help them. I guess, in a way, I am asking for your soul, but what I really want is that life force that makes you tick. That makes you grow old. That pushes the blood through your veins and causes your heart to beat.”
All it took was hearing ‘help the Mikaelsons’ for me to agree. I should have put some more thought into it.
I will always remember his smile when he made me immortal that night, right after he took my soul, my life force as he called it, away from me. And I would always remember his name.
Cade.
From there on, I tried to be there for the Mikaelson children whenever I could. That was until we were forced out of the village by Mikael. I had gotten separated from the others when I stayed behind to protect them, using my magic to ward Mikael off.
I wasn’t as strong back then, so Mikael was able to defeat me easily, pushing the white oak stake he had created through my heart before pursuing Klaus and his siblings with it.
I thought death would come for me then too, but it did not. After I could not hear Mikael’s footsteps, I stood up, my clothes stained with blood. That was then when I realized just what deal I had made.
For many years, I would search for the Mikaelsons, but it was as though I was one step behind Mikael and two behind the siblings. Everywhere I went, they were either gone after I arrived or would settle down after I left. To the rest of the world, the Mikaelsons were but a whisper, a figment of imagination. They were myths. But they were all too real to me.
I found myself traveling alone for two hundred years. For two hundred years, I did not give up on them. I called out to each and every Mikaelson sibling using my mind, hoping, waiting for a response. I would cry out into the world, telling them where I was, wanting them to come and find me. I was always met with silence. A silence so deafening at times I would scream to the dark midnight sky in order to not feel crushed.
And still, there was no answer from any of them. For two hundred years, the only answer I received that they were still alive was the trail of bodies left behind at each and every settlement they had managed to land in.
Then one day, I could not take it anymore. I did the one thing I said I wouldn’t.
I turned my back on the Mikaelsons and I started to walk the opposite way from them. The deal I had made with Cade became a curse. I was left alone with the demons in my head and the nightmares behind my eyelids.
I had failed Elijah.
Klaus.
Kol.
Rebekah.
‘Always and Forever.’
That is what we all promised each other when Mikael drove us out of Mystic Falls. What a broken promise it is now.
I would not find the Mikaelsons until many, many years later. Not until I, myself, became something so unrecognizable, so much so that my own reflection doesn’t even know who I am.
I am on my way back to Hell.
That is where my story begins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Orleans. Some things never change. (Y/n) hadn’t been back in New Orleans for more than eighty years, having gotten there in the 1920′s after the Mikaelson siblings were forced to leave. It was specular to see again, looking at everything Marcel had done.
It was night by the time (Y/n) came strolling into New Orleans. After many years of traveling across the globe, she was ready to lay down again for about a hundred years before setting off again. She needed a break from all the plane rides and carpool adventures. It was good to be back in a place that she knew.
However, as much as she wanted to stay in the town she once called her favorite home, (Y/n) was merely passing though. She would only be in New Orleans for a night before heading on her way to Mystic Falls.
While she never wanted to return to that place again, she had heard a whisper, one so faint even she was convinced it wasn't real. It called out to her, begging her to come back to Mystic Falls. This plea, she could not ignore.
Her house keys in her pocket, (Y/n) walked down the middle of the street. She could hear music and partying faintly in the distance. She didn’t have a care in the world as she walked through the streets. She took her time as she placed one foot in front of the other. The night was peaceful and all she wanted to do was savor it before going to bed and leaving in the morning.
“Well look here, boys. This one doesn't look like a local.”
And the peace was lost.
Turning around, (Y/n) saw three vampires lined up behind her. One of them had their fangs bared already, the dark viens in their face popping out.
“Mhm, you must be new to all this vampire stuff,” the witch spoke.
The three men were taken aback by what she had said. Shrugging her shoulders, (Y/n) turned back around and started to make her way back down the street.
“Go home, boys. I’m sure there is easier prey for you to catch at some party Marcel is holding.”
Now the vampires were even more confused, but they were not about to let some new tourist tell them what to do. Within seconds, all three raced in front of the witch and bared their fangs. They hissed at her as she continued to walk towards them, an amused look on her face.
The next thing they knew, a head splitting pain took over all of them. It was as if their heads were getting ripped off of their shoulders. Their blood boiled and their skin felt like it would melt right off their bodies. As they withered on the street, clutching their heads, (Y/n) continued to stroll past them, not even breaking a sweat as she induced pain and suffering on Marcel’s nightwalkers.
“Goodnight, boys. Don’t let any werewolves bite.”
Continuing down the street, (Y/n) held her head high as witches hiding in the dark spotted the scene that had been caused, their eyes growing wide in fear of what Marcel would do when he found out this witch had performed magic. Did this witch have a death wish?
It didn’t matter to (Y/n). She would not be staying for long.
(Y/n) (L/n) was back on her way to Hell.
Chapter Nine: Well, Hello There, Darling
Before the conversation could get much further, it was interrupted by the front door opening. Elijah sighed at the sound of arguing before giving you a tight smile. “It seems we are being graced with the presence of our younger siblings.”
The voices grew louder and you turned your attention to the doorway waiting for their owners to make their appearance. A tall blonde female with aristocratic features and a man with dark hair and eyes finally came into view. You ran your gaze over Rebekah first. There was no disputing her beauty though something about the way she carried herself told you that she was well aware of her appeal. She didn’t bare much resemblance to any of her brothers though you’d say she looked more like Niklaus than either of the other two if pressed.
Your attention shifted to Kol and you tilted your head as you took him in. He was as attractive as both his older brothers though there was something about him that screamed trouble. The sound of a clearing throat caught the attention of the bickering siblings and their conversation faded as they turned their attention to the rest of you. They seemed surprised to find the three of you sat at the table.
“I thought you were going to be gone for the afternoon,” Klaus said, irritation heavy in his voice.
Rebekah’s eyes ran over the length of you and her frown deepened. “My ability for tolerating Kol eroded much sooner than usual. Who is this?”
“Rebekah, Kol, this is Y/N Y/L/N. Our soulmate,” Elijah explained. Nothing in his tone even hinted at him being affected by the oddness of the situation.
Kol’s brows shot up and he shifted his attention solely to you. As soon as those dark eyes met yours a shiver shot up your spine. “Did you say our soulmate, brother?”
It was Klaus that answered him. “Yes. It would appear Elijah and I have been gifted with the same soulmate. Be nice.”
A smile covered the younger Mikaelson’s face. “As if I would be anything but.” He sauntered over, closing the distance between you and taking your hand in his own. You gasped as that by now familiar heat flared beneath your skin. Seriously?
Kol’s smile turned down right predatory as he placed a kiss on the back of your hand. “Well, hello there, darling.”
He moved to take the empty chair beside you, his eyes never moving from you.
“This is a private conversation, brother,” Klaus bit out.
Kol left his gaze on you though his smile widened. He rolled up his left sleeve to show the now completed soulmark that sat just below the bend of his elbow. A fist slammed into the table causing you to jump. You turned wide eyes on a furious hybrid.
“Calm yourself, Niklaus,” Elijah instructed.
“You cannot be any happier about this than I am.”
Your gaze shifted to Elijah who graced you with a soft smile. “Of course, I am not happy. I’d much rather have her to myself. But all things considered, if she must be shared, at least it is between the three of us.”
“And what a bloody comfort that is.”
Klaus’ tone made your stomach churn and you rested a hand against your abdomen as you swallowed past the lump in your throat. You didn’t like this situation any more than they did but you had no control over it. And it wasn’t as if you could just pick one and forget the others existed. That wouldn’t be fair to any of you and you were certain it would break your heart. Even Kol who you just met had a pull on you like nothing you’d ever felt before meeting the trio of brothers.
“Let me see if I am understanding this correctly,” Rebekah said from the doorway. You’d forgotten she was even there. She motioned around the table with her finger. “The three of you all have the same soulmate?”
“It would appear that way, yes,” Elijah responded.
The silence stretched until it was broken by the blonde’s laughter. “This is perfect. Absolutely perfect.” She turned and walked off before anyone could respond. Or perhaps no one wanted to. At least someone was happy about your predicament.
The weight of the stares of all three brothers was a heavy burden to bear and you focused your attention on the now cold food on your plate. You’d been trying to accept all of this as stoically as possible but there was only so much you could take. Your life had been completely turned upside down in a matter of months. And the times you’d allowed yourself to contemplate having more than one soulmate you’d always assumed they would be compatible personalities. An alpha with a beta or two whose strengths complimented each other.
Instead you’d ended up with three very alpha Original vampire brothers. And while their relationship may prevent them from killing one another, it wouldn’t keep them from arguing over you. Plus, you couldn’t help but wonder what made the fates think you were special enough to warrant three gorgeous soulmates.
A hand on your shoulder caused you to jump and you glanced over to find Kol with a small smile and a question in his eyes. “I do hope I’m not a disappointment, darling.”
You shook your head immediately to ease his worries and glanced between the three of them. “This is all just a little overwhelming and unexpected, to say the least.”
“Of course, it is,” Elijah rushed to assure you. The look he shot his brothers dared them to argue with him. “We have no intention of rushing you into anything, sweet Y/N. Take your time.”
The corner of your mouth kicked up. “See, that right there is one of the things I’m worried about.”
“You’re worried about us giving you time, love?” Klaus’ brow furrowed as he frowned at you.
“No, I’m concerned about the fact that Elijah is speaking for all of you when I know he couldn’t have possibly spoken to Kol to get his opinion.” You sighed. “What if he doesn’t want to give me time, Elijah? Were you going to beat him into submission?”
Kol snorted. “I’d like to see him bloody try.”
Unable to help yourself, you huffed a laugh. “That’s my point. I don’t want to be the cause of any disagreement between the three of you. I won’t be responsible for destroying your relationship.”
The silence stretched and your gaze darted between the brothers as they contemplated your words. Predictably, Elijah was the first to speak. “My relationship with my siblings has always been…complicated. Even before we became what we are it was colored and corrupted by our parents. When things changed it became both more and less twisted. Our new status brought heightened emotions but also a new strength to fight against our father.”
“And each other,” Kol couldn’t help but add.
“Kol.” Klaus’ voice was low, a warning heavy in the tone.
“Oh, don’t start, Niklaus. You are the one that keeps stabbing us and putting us in boxes for decades at a time.”
Klaus’ jaw set and he refused to meet your gaze. “It was for your own safety, Kol. Mikael was still on the loose and hunting us all. Your actions were drawing unwanted attention.”
“Don’t pretend your actions were some noble gesture on your part. You wanted control and obedience and achieved it by whatever means necessary.” Kol stood and leaned forward, his hands resting on the table as he stared down his brother.
Elijah cleared his throat. “I believe you two are doing nothing but proving her point.”
All three brothers turned their attention to you once more and you shifted on your chair. Kol graced you with a soft smile. “Actually, we’re proving Elijah’s point. I believe what he was trying to say earlier is that we have always had our issues and it was unlikely your presence would make them any worse than they already are.”
You tilted your head. “Oddly enough, that’s not very comforting.”
“Yes, well…” Elijah trailed off, leaving the fact you might as well get used to it unspoken.
“So, darling, how about you and I get to know each other a little better?” Kol asked as he pulled your chair away from the table.
“I think not,” Elijah answered for you. His jaw was tight as his gaze flicked between the two of you.
Kol chuckled. “I simply intended to take her for a drink, Elijah. Calm down.”
The elder brother hummed as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back in his seat. “Don’t act as if I have no reason to question your intentions, Kol. I know you too well.”
Tension stiffened Kol’s body indicating a fight was about to start any moment. You shot to your feet, hands held up to stave off whatever they’d been about to say each other. “That will be enough of that.” You ran your gaze over the three of them again. They simply stared back waiting to see what you’d do. Your nature didn’t lend itself to being the center of attention. To being in charge. You were used to staying in the background. It kept your step-mother and her daughter from harping at you. It also made it easier to maintain your glamor if no one knew you well enough to pick up any mistakes.
All that being said, you also didn’t wish to listen to the siblings bicker any longer. Kol was right. You needed to spend time with them and get to know them away from one another. “Let’s start with a date and go from there.”
One of Klaus’ brows shot up. “With all of us?”
“Not at the same time, no.” Even the thought had your stomach sinking. You could just imagine a meal spent in silence with them glaring at each other across the table. Well, fates forbid anything be easy. “I’ll start with Kol as I know the least about him. Then Klaus followed by Elijah. It only seems fair.”
The look the siblings exchanged said they weren’t entirely in agreement with your assessment but they were smart enough not to voice their thoughts. “If that’s what you want, love,” Klaus said.
“For the moment, yes.”
Kol grasped your hand in his and lifted it to his mouth as he’d done earlier. He paused with your hand inches from his lips. “This evening then?”
You nodded to confirm and he grinned. Instead of kissing the back of your hand as you’d expected, he turned his grip at the last moment and pressed his lips softly to your wrist. A wave of heat rolled through you as Kol studied you through hooded eyes. Finally, he released you and stepped back. “Wear whatever you like, darling. I shall see you soon.” With that, he disappeared before you could ask any questions.
Your attention returned to the other two to see them still staring at the doorway their brother disappeared through. You cleared your throat. “I should go.”
They got to their feet. Elijah gave you a nod. “Of course.”
The three of you walked to the door in silence and Elijah opened it for you. Giving into impulse, you turned and gave them each a kiss on the cheek before you left. You hurried to your car, not chancing a glance back. Your life was about to get very interesting.
Foolish Girl - Part:One
Aela x Female! Reader
The commotion from the training yard resonated through the heavy wooden boards of the Mead hall. Skjor threw you against the rock foundation wall and pulled you onto the tip of your boots by the front of your leather armor. Your brothers burst through the doors to see the glint off the dagger you'd pressed against the warriors throat when he laid a hand on you. Your eyes were locked on eachother but you could feel the presence of the other Companions growing around you.
"I will never be like you." You hiss beneath your breath.
"Then you will never learn respect!" Skjor twists your arm backwards, turning you to face the growing crowd.
The sharp sound of Vilkas' inhale nearly drew your attention while you attempted to thrash away. The movements only forced more pain against your shoulder blade. A soft gasp breaks through your lips when the elder pulls your hair back to lift your chin.
"This is what it looks like when you lack honor!" He bellowed through the tense air.
"Skjor!" You met Aela's beautiful green eyes when she threw herself forward. "That is enough."
"You coddle her, Aela. This... coward." His steel boot dug into the curve of your leg.
The air whipped through your hair and you plummeted to the ground. Sharp pain radiated through your knee caps that split, bleeding on the cobble stone. Turning your head back, Farkas' calloused hand cupped your cheek, tilting her face back to his worry creased, painted eyes.
"She is no coward, Skjor. She needn't be in the inner circle to be a companion!" Aela became a physical barrier between you and the superior you often clashed with.
"That disrespectful welp will never be a companion."
That was the last you heard of the argument when Vilkas caught your wrist in a bruising grip, digging into the flesh and tearing you from his twins arms and into the mead hall. He pushed you forward. The thick carpets wrapped around the souls of your boots and you tripped forward, catching your weight in a delicate move no brash warrior could pull off. It was always a topic of argument between you and your eldest brother that you chose to be a rogue over a warrior. But Aela comforted you, trained you in archery. She helped you through the long harrowing nights and sided with you during fights with the other Companions. Vilkas never understood you, and there you were beneath his fierce scrutinizing gaze, licked by the flames from the lit fire over your shoulder.
"Why do you test him, Y/N?" He threw out his arms, attempting to reign in his temper in the form of pacing the length of the great table back and forth.
With a defeated sigh, you pulled out a chair, sitting weakly to inspect your torn knees. He was silent as you wet a cloth and dabbed away the blood that began to clot and scab.
"Answer me!" He rose his voice, surprising you. "How long will they house you if you keep this up?"
The door clicked behind you and Aela ran a hand through her red hair, careful of the braid. Anxiety and frustration were written across her features but she ignored your brother, stepping closer to your aching form.
"You overstepped today. More so than usual, I can't protect you if you continue down this path. He could kill you, he could disown you-"
A tonkard flew through the dim lighting, splattering wine across the wall. The tapestry clattered to the ground in the silence but all attention was on your brother's broad shoulders as he left the room. His footfalls echoed and the sound of the door slamming against the frame made your shoulders jolt against better judgement.
Aela pressed her fingertips to her eyes and knelt before you. Leaning forward on your elbows, you rested your forehead on hers and entwined your fingers through strands of her soft, shimmering hair.
"Why do you do this?" She whispered.
"I don't want to be a beast."
Your fingertips brushed back along her jaw, thumb running along her bottom lip and she covered your hand with her warm palm before tearing away hesitantly. She rested the heels of her palms on the waxed table, leaning toward the hot flames. The heat seemed smothering in the silent tension and neither of you could face eachother but you knew what was coming. It was always coming.
"Is that what you think I am, Y/N? A beast?" Aela steeled her voice with a strength she always kept stored away beneath the surface.
"Don't start this again." You sighed and rose to your feet with a slight limp. "I may be younger, but I'm not ignorant. Don't speak to me as though I am."
"You should leave." She whispered.
"I'm working on it." You grumbled back but a simple 'no' from her and you couldn't move. Your world tipped upside down, everything that was known seemed lost and beyond reach with a simple sentence.
"Leave Jorrvaskr." She was emotionless, impossible to read.
"I'll see you tonight for supper." There was a heavy weight in the finality of your tone as you forced the door open with your aching shoulder. You had to get away from this maddening place, these maddening people. Clear your head.
There was a glimpse of Farkas' frame as you descended the steps from the Cloud District and into the babbling, endless commotion of the city and boring lives of the common folk that lived there. You wondered far too often what the people of Whiterun would think, knowing their protectors are dark, blood driven animals. But you could never do that to her.
You'd played that moment over in your head, a painful, heart-breaking mantra. Words you'd hoped you would never hear. Though a few hours of drinks in the Bannered Mare and the scrapes of your knees and bruised pride seeped away off of your skin. But you swore, you swore to Ysgrammor himself that if Mikael played Ragnar the Red one more time-
"This is the first song I ever learned." He smiled toothily at you when you turned over your shoulder, more irritated than reason warranted.
It was a waiting game, and divines did you wait with baited breath for his next few words. They would surely be his undoing, and you were more than happy- honored even- to deliver him to the gods. He ignored the glare, relished in it perhaps and his sing song tone grated in your troubled, already raging, drunken mind.
"There once was a he-" Surprise flashed over his wide, frightened eyes when you leapt from your stool, successfully throwing him over the carved log bench. He sputtered up at you when you pulled the lute from his clenched, white knuckles.
"Heros are over rated." A large, meaty hand wrapped lightly around your forearm and pulled you away, knocking all of your weight off your feet.
"Put me down, Ulfberth..." You complained as he lifted you onto his shoulder. The crisp night air stung your cheeks when the taverns warmth left. The nord carried you with ease up the stone pathway despite your protests.
"Foolish girl." He muttered, though it came without malice. "That's no way for a Companion to behave."
"Haven't you heard?" You rasped, his harsh shoulder pressed into your ribs, lessening your air but you stayed where you were placed and let your arms sway beneath you. It wasn't worth fighting him off. "I'm not a Companion."
He tossed you down into the stream that was lightly flowing down from Dragons Reach. A loud gasp and you were flailing up from the splashing water, sobered from the cold. He stood in the shadow of the shrine of Talos, chuckling at your discomfort shaking the water droplets from your furs.
"Go back to your wife." You muttered and swatted his hand away when he reached to mess your damp hair. "Thank you, for taking me home."
"Call it what you will." He grinned in the darkness but didn't leave until you started up the steep stairs to the Mead Hall.
Only steps from the painted doors and Aela spoke behind you from her spot leaning against the wall.
"Where have you been, Y/N?"
"I did as you said. I left."
She closed her mouth on her next comment and stepped away without another word. The frustration seeped back into your body and you prepared for the harassment that awaited you beyond the doors. Warmth washed over your wet limbs when the door cracked open and brought life back to your cold body. But the music and laughter and chattering died down with each step you took towards the Companion quarters. Vilkas cut you off at the stairs.
"You must listen."
"I'm done, Vilkas." Your voice was soft and it was apparent he had expected you to yell. "I won't continue to fight the same battle with you, with Skjor."
"You've been drinking. Today we've delivered a blow to the Silverhands! Celebrate." He brushed your words off, pushing your shoulder in a light hearted way. It was at that moment, when his forced smile faltered, you knew he realized he lost you.
Skjor met your eyes from across the tables before be glanced towards Aela, sulking to grab her bow.
"I'm done, Vilkas."
Title: 'The noble stag's daughter; The First Time she called her mom'
Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x Gia, Elijah x Daughter!Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Elijah being protective of Y/N and Gia, Angst
Masterlist of this series
Y/N cling to Gia as a coven of witches took them to some kind of alter and there stood Ann with a dark smirk on her face. Gia knew who the witch was as Elijah had told his fiancé about Y/N's birth mother as Ann spotted the engagement ring on the young vampire's hand and how her daughter cling to the woman.
"So you are Elijah's new play thing." Ann said standing up eyes dark as Gia held Y/N closer as the little girl to hide herself in Gia's arms.
"Elijah killed you."
"Celeste isn't the only witch to body jump." Ann says smirking as Gia watched her carefully as Y/N shook in her arms. Ann told the witches to place the two in a room until she ready everything and Gia knew she had to get Y/N out of here not caring if she ended up dying as long as Y/N was out of danger.
"Don't worry. I'll get you out of here."
Elijah paced anger flooded him as Freya worked to find Gia and Y/N as the rest of the family was equally angry. Y/N was with Gia and the girls dress shopping for a wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses when they were ambushed by witches.
"Elijah, please calm down."
"Don't Rebekah. My girls had been taken by a coven of witches for god knows reason." Elijah growled as both Mikael and Klaus stood by ready to hold Elijah back if need be. Rebekah held no hurt understanding how Elijah felt when said she knew where they were.
Gia ran bleeding carrying Y/N as she managed to get them out, Y/N let out a yelp as they fell when a stake hit the back of Gia's leg. Y/N stood up hating how shallow the vampire's breathing was as she was crying trying to get her up.
"Hey sunshine, I need you to run."
"No mama! I won't leave you." Y/N said gripping Gia's hand making the woman tear up not knowing that Y/N saw her as a mother. Gia reached up cupping the girl's cheek wiping the tears away, the vampire took off her engagement ring giving it to Y/N as the girl blinked.
"Mama needs you to, please I don't want Elijah to lose you too sunshine. I need you to live for me."
"Okay mama but daddy will save you."
"I know." Gia said not really believing her but if it got the girl to run then the vampire would lie. Y/n got up again and began running tuning out the screams behind her, the young witch was panting tired and ached when she ran into her grandfather.
"Papa!"
"Little one,where is Gia?" Mikael asked getting down to her eye level frowning seeing her dress torn and muddy messy hair. The others had came running over as Elijah joined Mikael.
"The coven got mama after she got us free." Y/N said giving Elijah the ring as the family noted the young witch called Gia mama. Elijah stood as a dark look came over his face which Rebekah was quick to grab Y/N so she wouldn't see her father like this.
"Elijah?" Klaus questioned watching his brother carefully as it was every clear Elijah had opened the red door.
"Rebekah, Freya take Y/N home. I am going to get Gia." Elijah said leaving as Rebekah looked to Klaus who nodded then followed after Elijah with Kol and Mikael following too.
Elijah had tore though the coven without a second thought and no guilt as all he was focused on was getting Gia back. A witch fell her thoat had been tore out before growling lowly seeing Ann standing behind Gia with a dagger to the female vampire's thoat.
"Hello again my dear Elijah." Ann said looking over Elijah seeing him missing both his suit jacket and tie cover in blood eyes dark. This made Ann shiver as she never once had seen Elijah like this not even when he killed her the first time. Gia felt her breathing hitch seeing Elijah in such a primal state, the beast behind the red door and it was angry.
"Ann, it would be best if you let her go because you will not like what comes next."
"Give me my...." Ann didn't finished her threat as Elijah had quickly grabbed her thoat and Gia was freed from her grip.
"Ann, you have come after my family for the last time." Elijah said lowly tearing out her thoat with her fangs draining her letting the witch's body fall.
Elijah moved to Gia's side gently picking her up and raised his wrist to her mouth, Gia was surprised knowing how Elijah felt about blood sharing and how intimate it was for Elijah as she bit into his wrist drinking from him.
"Let's get you home. Our little one is worried about you." Elijah said pressing a kiss against Gia's temple not letting her go making the female sigh laying her head on his shoulder.
Mikael was a bit impressed with how well Elijah cleared out the coven when he, Kol and Klaus looked for Elijah. They saw Elijah walking up carrying a passed out Gia.
"Burn Ann's body will you, Niklaus."
"I will 'Lijah."
Elijah got home and cleaned up both him and Gia before getting into bed which Elijah wasn't surprised to hear little feet headed for his room. Y/N climbed into the bed happy to see Gia and snuggled into her arms as Elijah leaned over kissing his daughter's head.
"Shhh little one, mama is just resting no more tears." Elijah whispered wiping Y/N's tears from her cheek as the girl cuddled closer to the vampire. Gia woke a few hours later feeling Y/N curled up against her and Elijah's fingers running though her hair making her look seeing him reading.
"Hey."
"Hello my sweet. Feeling better?" Elijah asked smiling at Gia as the female vampire pulled the young witch closer taking comfort in the fact she saved Y/N while Elijah soothe her worry as he gently moved his fingers though her hair still.
"Yes....she called me mama."
"I am aware. Does it scare you?"
"No...I'm glad. It's nice to know she loves me just as much." Gia tells Elijah hearing him chuckle and press kisses on her skin after set his books aside then warp his arms around both Gia and Y/N.
"Mama? Daddy?" Both vampires look seeing a every sleepy witch when she woke up rubbing her eye. Gia smiled moving her hair from her small round face find the half asleep ten year old adorable.
"Hey sunshine." Gia whispered laughing when Y/N brighten up hugging Gia tightly as she hugged the witch back while Elijah smiled watching them both his heart fluttering at the display of affection.
"Let's get some sleep."
"Okay daddy. Night night mama, I love you." Y/N said almost shyly as both Elijah and Gia felt their hearts burst with adoration for the girl squeal with joy when both showered her with affection. Y/N was sandwiched between Elijah and Gia as they relaxed and she was falling asleep with them just cuddling the little witch.
"Love you Elijah."
"And I you, Gia."
____
"So, he kissed you on the cheek??"- Caroline said astonished-"in front of everyone? Just like that?"
"Well, yeah. Just like that."- Y/N replied.
"Well, you and him are now No.1 on the Hospital’s gossip list. They saw you take him by the hand the other night, and now he kissed you on the cheek- Jo has already painted you black. With Alex, especially."
"And - nothing is going on with me and him."- Y/N said sighing and added-"yeah, I heard about Jo telling Alex about me and Kai, probably about Stefan as well. And Alex kind of talked to me about - well, it was more like telling me that he would break my heart, because Joel doesn't know how to love."
"Right."- Caroline slipped.
"I tried to find him later. But he left for New Zealand because he had some vacation time."- Y/N said.
"So, what now? I mean- are you in a friend zone now? What?"
"It can't be anything. He is emotionally wrecked."- Y/N said-"and I - can't get into anything with him till he - HUH- this was doomed from the beginning. I just had a one night stand with him- and now-"
"Now, you are in love with him."- Caroline stated.
"And now I am in love with him!"- Y/N said huffing and puffing. She then turned the tables on her sister and said-"if we are no1 on gossip list, you and Klaus are no2."
"I know."- Caroline said and continued-"last night, Rayna and I met Rebekah in Rousseau's. She called me a slutty bitch and a homewrecker. And I called her the same back, bringing Damon up. Sorry. I just- couldn't control myself. She so ticks me off."
"I know. She is always so high and mighty."- Y/N said-"but- what is it really now with you and Klaus?"
Caroline sighed a little now flashing back at her and Klaus' little  after-birthday-party hook up in the Grill's storage room.
Flashback
Straightening her dress now, Caroline looked at Klaus, who zipped his jeans and put his T-shirt back on. He looked back at her with a sweet smirk on.
"Oh, we have to stop this."- Caroline said ruffling her hair.
"Why?"- Klaus now neared her again, and placed a sweet little kiss, brushing his hands through her hair, adding-"you are so beautiful and sexy."
Caroline gulped now trying to keep her head straight-
"Because of you- and you being married and I just- don't want this to be about sex. And I get that you are getting out of something long-term and - I don't want to push you into anything. There is work and your ex-wife, and I just- I am drawing the line here!"
Before Klaus could say anything, Caroline snaked out of his arms and walked out.
"Have you talked to him afterwards?"- Y/N asked.
"Yeah."- Caroline replied- now retelling her friend  the  conversation she and the Attending had at a break in the hospital the following day-
Flashback
Klaus found Caroline sitting  in the little atrium of the hospital.
"May I?"- Klaus asked if he could sit at the bench next to her.
"Sure."- Caroline said shortly.
"About yesterday"- Klaus started-
"Hey- we don't have to."
"Yes, but still- I need to say this though. I want you to know that  I really think that you are so beautiful, sexy and smart. I hope I didn't make you feel like I used you. It was never my intention"
"You didn't."- she cut in-" I had fun, too. It's ok, really."
Klaus looked down and then at her-
"I am really sorry can't give you more."
"As I said -it's ok. I have patients to see."
Caroline then got up and walked away.
"He can't give me more, which I totally understand, and- it's not like we've been together or something.  How could I be so head over heels, and I've just known him like five minutes."- Caroline sighed
"It happens. Comes out of nowhere and just kicks you right in the heart."- Y/N said, thinking of Joel.
¤
At the same time
At  Rousseau's
Klaus was out with a newly made friends, Vincent Griffith and Alaric Saltzman.
Oliver Queen now walked in, and Alaric shouted a warm greeting at his friend from Med school.
"Hey, you made it!!"- both men now gave each other a welcoming pat on the shoulder.
 "Gentleman, let me introduce my buddy- Dr Oliver Queen."- Alaric said-”This is Klaus Mikaelson and Vince, I told you about him.”
"You are replacing Alex, when she goes for maternity leave? But that's like months away?"- Vincent said as he shook Oliver’s hand.
"Yes."- Oliver said-"but the Fells wanted me to start now. And I had nothing better to do with my life."
"You are telling me New York got really boring?"- Klaus then said taking a swag of beer.
"A change of scenery is always good."- Oliver replied.
Klaus smirked a little and then said-"You are right there."
"This Hospital is the Top Gun in the medical teaching hospitals, and I really wanted to see if you are really the best of the best. And teach the best of the best."- Oliver then said.
They got him a beer now and Klaus, together with Vincent said-
"Welcome."
In the Mikaelson Mansion
Esther entered the study, where Mikael already waited for her.
"What is it?"- Esther asked coldly.
"I have decided that I will tell him the truth."
"Now, after alk this time?"- Esther said-"Why?"
"Because- his girlfriend is pregnant, and I want my grandchild to be part of this family. I can't bear it - not to know him or her- I just- it is not right."- Mikael said.
"Right?"- Esther said taking a moment's thought-"Mary decided that she was not going to tell him, and we all agreed that will keep it that way."
"But that- all of that doesn't matter anymore, does it? Mary is gone. And Joel is a grown man now. He - will understand. We all made mistakes. He, himself has done plenty."
"Yes, we've all made mistakes, and look how many lives got messed up over it."- Esther reminded Mikael of the consequences his and Mary's affair had on their lives.
"I know. I regret it deeply. And I wish, I could turn back time, but I can't. But let's make it right somehow."- Mikael said.
"How can we make it right after so many years. It could be much worse. Did she ever tell her husband about Joel not being his son?"
"No. As far as I know."- Mikael said.
"There you go. That man raised him as his own, and now you would take the only family his got away from him."- Esther then said.
"What are you talking about? The man left them when he was 7 and went to New Zealand. And if Mary hadn't died, Joel would never really know him - "
"You kept on seeing one another afterwards, didn't you?"- Esther now said angered.
"I have not."- Mikaels said.
"I don't believe you."- Esther shot at her husband.
"I swear on our children's lives!"- Mikael then said.
"Don't you dare use them."
"I swear, Esther."-Mikael insisted.
"Whatever."- Esther said-"I - you need to know that this will bring shock waves throughout the family. Just think about it."
Esther then left the study. Mikael was left thinking about all, especially the past.
Flashback
38 years ago
"I am pregnant."- Mary Goran said to Mikael as she met him in the Grill, a couple of months after she broke it off with him.
Mikael smiled taking hold of the woman's hand warmly- "Oh, this is so- wonderful."
"Is it?"- Mary said-"I don't know. I- don't know what to do."
"I love you, Mary. And I am ready to do anything. "
"How can you say this? You have a two- year old son. Your family needs you. This not right, whatever we feel. It just is not. I don't know why I have even called you."
"Because you love me, and I love you. And, I know that I have a young family and- oh, I wish I have met you before."
"I wish so many things- and- oh, I am sorry that I- came here."
Mary now started crying. She was completely overwhelmed with the situation.
"We will figure something out."- Mikael tried to comfort her.
Mary abruptly pulled herself together, and walked out of the diner.
Mikael was an emotional wreck after having found out about Mary being pregnant with his child. And he had a family, a wife, he had married, so two families could become even bigger. His father-in-law, who was Virginia stat senator at the time, made sure that Mary stayed with her husband, and Mikael never divorced Esther.
A few days later
Y/N's day started in the ER, and a colleague now confronting her about the Joel gossip.
"There was a bet on which intern Joel will sleep with first."
Y/N looked at her fellow intern furiously-
"What??? This is disgusting!"
"I know. It's totally lame."- Sam said.
"Who was it?"- Y/N now demanded to know.
"Y/N, I know it is completely out of order. But-"
"I want to know."- Y/N was not letting it go.
"I didn't want to stir shit."- Sam tried to calm Y/N down.
"Tell me!"- Y/N sifted anger making her chestnut eyes darken.
"Brad."- Sam now said.
"Right."- Y/N said and they both now went to take care of the patients, but as she had a break, Y/N went to find the young resident. And confronted him about it in front of the whole cafeteria.
She got some dollar bills out and said-
"How much is a bet it for an ass of the year?
The young resident looked at her astonished but it was clear that she had found out about the bet on Joel and the female interns. He started muttering something but Y/N just continued-
"Joel is flawed on so many levels, yes. He made huge mistakes.But unlike you, he is a good and warm person, and you are a sorry excuse for a human being!"
The whole cafeteria now applauded her. She now turned around and walked out of the place.
🎃 That night, at home, as she went through a few case studies, Y/N made herself some cocoa and sat down on the bay window. Now there was again this one person on her mind, wondering how he was doing. No matter how much she tried not to feel anything more than just friendship towards Joel, her heart didn’t seem to want to listen to her. She looked out in the night, drawing a deep breath and then went back to the case studied.
A few days later
Caroline was saying bye to Y/N,  as she pulled a night shift and Elena just got in the hospital and already had her hands full with a presentation she was given to work on. And as she was waving Caroline off, her eyes now caught a smiling Rock Star of Orthopaedics.
"Hey"- Joel greeted Elena and Caroline as he came up to them.
Caroline greeted him back and excused herself and left them to catch up.
"Hey"- Y/N said with a little mental gulp-"so, how was New Zealand?"
"Good. Actually really good."- Joel said-"sorry- I just left. After I talked to the Chief of staff, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing. I needed to - just go. Change the scenery, you know, after everything that -"
"Yeah, I do."- Y/N said and then there was a moment when they both went quiet and Y/N now tried to find to ask something more, and as she wanted to ask how his father was, Joel got a small box out of his bag handing it clumsily to her saying-
"Here. A happy belated - something."
Tumblr media
"Oh"- Y/N exclaimed surprised. She opened it and it was a very unusual pendant she had seen.
Tumblr media
"This is koru. It's Maori.”-Joel explained clumsily-”Symbolizes awakening, fresh beginnings, rebirth. It's kind of what you did for me the other night. And so I- well- "
Y/N looked at him with a small smile curling up on her lips and slipped quite an emotional thank you. Now the kiss on the cheek made sense. It was a thank you. He could see that she was really moved by the gift.
"In the last couple of days- and - well already on the plane-  I had so much time to think. About everything."- Joel now said-"and - well- "- he was suddenly terribly nervous again. He smiled somewhat nervously and said -"Later? Drink? Rousseau's?"
"Yes. See you there."- Y/N said.
"Ok."- Joel said.
Y/N looked at the pendant and her heart and head were now more than ever in total confusion, but Joel's wasn't far behind either. He was nervous. He had never been nervous before. Something happened. Could he be in love with her? He just knew that she didn't leave his mind, all the time he was away.
“Around 8?”- Y/N said .
“Yeah.”- Joel said and now gestured towards the elevator.
Y/N nodded and both then went to whatever was next on the agenda for the day.
¤
As Y/N called Caroline later to tell her that she kind of has this non-date thing, the blonde went now all in what-are-you-going-to-wear, what-will-do-with-your-hair, and Y/N answered simply that she had no plans to dress up.
“It’s only a drink. There is nothing to it, really”
“Nothing? Are you serious? He bought you jewellery!”- Caroline said with a duh voice.
“It’s a thank you thing”- Y/N said-”for being there and listening to him- and that is all”
“Right - tell yourself that. Do what you want.Ok. I’m going back to sleep cuz that double shift killed me.”- Caroline said yawning and hung up.
Y/N went off to her locker, to change. As they never knew how long they would stay in the hospital, she always had a couple of T-shirts and sweaters ready, as well as a pair of jeans. Casual was her style since - well, always. Now, having changed, she put her boots on and leather jacket on. She didn’t bother about the hair at all. She simply undid the pun and combed it a bit. This was not really a date, and she was not Cinderella. Just an intern. And she was meeting a friend for a drink.
Since, there was still more than an hour till Joel finished his shift, Y/N called Bonnie and met up with her. Since Caroline was not available to listen to her analysing every detail of her heart, Bonnie was her other bestie, who never minded being there for her. Bonnie had a lot to discuss as well, as the night of the birthday lip sync birthday thing, the chemist also went down the line as he friends and hooked up with Kol Mikaelson.
But she now let Y/N talk first.
"Is this a gift wrapped up as a thank you or am I imagining something more? Look, how beautiful it is."- Y/N showed her friend Joel's gift and the meaning behind it.
"I think a thank you and something more is wrapped in it."- Bonnie said.
"You think? I don't know why I am going mad here over it? I can't start anything with him."
"You think he wants to start something?"- Bonnie questioned.
"Knowing him, not really. And then it will be a kind of a rebound thing, although it is not really that."- Y/N said sighing a bit.
"You are overanalyzing everything. Which something you totally do, and then don't listen to your head."- Bonnie reminded Y/N of her past mistakes.
"Caroline said that I am doing again the same thing I did with Kai."- Y/N said.
"Believing that you can change him because you loved him?!"- Bonnie stated.
"Yeah. Huh- but it feels like- it isn't so- like - I didn't know."
"He needs to want to change and break away from his past behaviour."- Bonnie said.
"I think that this thing with this guy dying shook him to the ground."- Y/N said.
"This is some life changing moment."- Bonnie said.
"He said that he felt like he died, like something broke inside of him."- Y/N remembered her and Joel's conversation the night before he left for New Zealand.
"What about Alex and him? There is also the kid."- Bonnie reminded Y/N.
Y/N now told her friends that Alex had talked to her, as the surgeon had presumed that Joel and Y/N had already started something.
"Can things be even more complicated?"- Elena said-"You know what is mad actually? He might not want to be anything but friends, which I totally get. The last thing he needs is a new relationship. I need to let this go."
"Yeah, you need to let this go."- Bonnie said.
Elena nodded, and her heart tried so hard to dismiss the idea that Joel may not have feelings for her.
"But you won't be able to let this go?"- Bonnie then said as she saw her friend play with the pendant all huffed up.
"Why does it have to be so complicated? I always fall for the wrong guy!"
"What you need to do is actually find out how he feels. And if he doesn't feel like you feel, or anything remotely, then you will have to let this go."- Bonnie said and with that their conversation ended as Joel now walked in the bar.
Bonnie, who was usually a very subtle person, this time did the opposite. As Joel got to the table they were sitting at, she greeted him and then made an excuse that she had to go.
"I hope it is not because of me."- Joel said.
"No. She was like leaving the last half hour, but I just kept her talking about - the upcoming charity thing she is busy with."- Y/N fibbed a little.
"Right. You want the same?"- he now asked about the drink.
"I am fine. I am kind of hungry, one more cocktail would completely knock me out."
"Well, do you want to go and grab something? I am kind of hungry, too."- Joel said.
"Yeah- cuz it’s been a long day. You know Sophie's Food Heaven?"- Y/N asked.
"Of course."- Joel said-"comfort food 100%. Whenever I eat there, I have to go to the gym straight after."
"So true. Caroline and I went there the other day and we were so full that we thought we wouldn't need to eat the next two days."- Y/N said grabbing her bag now-"so you go there a lot?"
"It's a place I used to go with my mom, especially when she would do long shifts at the hospital."- Joel said.
"Hospital?"- Y/N was puzzled.
"Didn't I tell you that she was a nurse?"
"No. But it makes perfect sense. Did she meet your dad there?"- Y/N asked.
"No. They met at the Whitmore Medical School. They both were teaching there at the time. He was working at the Charlottesville Memorial."- Joel explained and then said-"Your car? My car?"
"Ahm- I'll go with mine. Meet you there."- Y/N said.
"Ok."- Joel said and then went to his car.
Elsewhere
Mikaelson Mansion
Klaus went to his parent's house to meet up with Camille, to try and talk to her about the divorce settlement.
"I don't want a divorce. I stopped the proceedings."- Camille said-"I want us to go to marriage counseling. I want to save our marriage."
Klaus shook with his head in negation.
"Why?"- she continued-"Why would you not try? We loved each other. We - both made a mistake. We just fell in a rut and - then things happened. You slept with her and then I slept with Marcel, just to get back at you. But I didn't stop loving you. We can find the way out of this."
"Yes. There is a way out of this and -"- Klaus stopped there for a second looking at his wife. She was a dear, sweet woman. Loving. And he hated hurting her. He hated the whole situation, but he had to now say it.
"I- don't love you anymore. I am so sorry- but it is- the truth. I should have told you that already in New Orleans, and save you from all this -"
Before he could finish the sentence, Camille slapped him.
Tumblr media
Whether the slap was justified or not, Camille was at the end with her nerves and the last words provocated her now shouting at him to get out.
Klaus made a little sigh and walked out of the room, stumbling on his sister Freya as he walked down the long corridor.
"Klaus?"- Freya ran after her brother.
He ignored her and now, as he got out of the Mansion got into his car, put his foot on the accelerator, driving off like a lightning.
In Sophie's Food Heaven Diner
Sophie Deveraux, who knew Joel since he was a kid, watched Joel and Y/N for a little while as they were chatting away quite happy and relaxed. Very rarely did she see him with a woman there. The waiter got the desert and as he walked to their table, Sophie now went with him.
"Hi. I hope the steak was good."- Sophie said.
"Perfect."- Joel said.
"Absolutely great."- Y/N complimented the Chef.
"She is the Chef/owner. Sophie Deveraux."- Joel said introducing her to Y/N.
"Nice to meet you."- Y/N said.
"Nice to meet you, too."- Sophie said-"so good to finally meet Joel's girlfriend."
"I am- we are not-"- Y/N said.
Joel was like what the heck Soph. And knowing how straight forward she was she now said-
"You could have fooled me. This dinner is on the house. Enjoy."
"What?"- Y/Na was beyond surprised.
"We go way back."- Joel said and explained that he knew Sophie when they were kids- and now told Y/N something that kind of made him somewhat blush-
"She was the first girl I kissed and - yeah. And she just has this thing- I am allowed to  comment."
"And a free meal."- Y/N said-"so you are friends with a girl."
"Ha?"- Joel looked at Y/N a bit gone out.
"Ah, sorry. It was just- ok, I heard you say that you don't believe that man and women can be friends.Sorry."
"Well, it is something I said- and something- I so regret saying - I am really pathetic, aren’t I? So lame. I've said and done so many stupid things. "
"Hey. I didn't want to make you feel bad."
"You didn't."- Joel said-"I went and talked to a friend of mine, also from my childhood. She is Maori. She is a doctor, but a spiritual woman too. We talked about stuff and - you know- Selina's husband -and everything that had happened recently "
"Joel-”- Y/N said in a dear manner.
"I am not religious. I am a surgeon, and I know how the body works. She talked about the soul and that I have to connect with it again. Get to my wairua. She said also that I don't believe in love. That I don't know how to be loved, and give love, and that I-  But that I will know it only then when I find my soul. Huh. Here we are with that stuff - again."- Joel now sighed-”I so didn’t want this evening to be like a therapy session.”
"It's ok. It’ s good to talk ”- Y/N reassured the dishy surgeon.
"Thank you, but I - don't want to think that I am - using you as a shoulder to- cry on. Because this is the last thing that I want."
"It's ok to talk. You are not weak if you have to talk about heavy stuff. It's human."- Y/N said.
Joel smiled a little now and added- "Did someone ever tell you that you have that kind of bold bossy thing - in your eyes-"
"Yeah."- Y/N said chuckling a bit-"since I was born. Although Caroline is far bossier and more ambitious. She was twice elected as the President of the class."
“Oh, I can imagine. They way she is, soon she will take over as Chief of staff before she gets to be Resident.”- Joel said remembering the way Caroline sorted a situation out among her fellow interns and Residents.
“Well, you would not believe that once upon a time she was a really shy and insecure girl”
“I can’t see that.”- Joel said and now took a scoop of the apple pie and ice- cream.
The conversation now swayed to the her and Caroline’s High School days and all their shenanigans.
A little later, as they got out of the Diner, with Joel finally convincing Sophie to let him pay the bill, they each stood for a second before they got into their respective cars-
"This was like- one of the best - dinner thing I had in a long time."- Joel said.
"Good. Next time it is on me."- Y/N said-"Or maybe we should let Sophie buy us a meal."- she referred to the silly negotiations he and Sophie had a few minutes ago.
"Yeah. Why the hell not. Then we will get all of the menu."
"Ok. Thanks for this- food."- Y/N said with a tiny smile curling up on her lips.
"You’re welcome."- Joel said.
And then there was awkwardness. And to cut it, Y/N now said- "Tomorrow"
"Yeah, tomorrow."
Y/N nodded a little with a smile and went into her car.
Joel got into his car and took a moment, watching her drive off. He smiled a little as his emotions danced up the way they had never done before. And he so wanted to go after her and tell her that she freed his soul. How? When? He could not pinpoint it. Like it mattered. Everything with her was so effortless and made him feel good and all so fuzzy inside.  He now started the engine and .
A little later, he walked to her apartment and rang the bell.
Y/N opened the door and was surprised to see him there.
"Ahm, hey- did you forget something?"
"Yes, kind of- hm"- Joel smiled nervoulsy-"I forgot- well, to tell you that- tonight was kind of amazing- and - God- this is- I - just-"
His heart wanted to actually say this-”Before all I heard was silence,Life was stringing me along, Then you came and you cut me loose, And now  I'm dancin' on to your heartbeat, And when you're gone, I feel incomplete,So if you want the truth-I just wanna be part of your symphony”
"What?"- Y/N felt like her heart was going to burst as all her predictions and all she had felt now were coming to light.
Joel moved clumsily with his head aside and now said-"I think that I-m in love with you."
Y/N now smiled at him and replied-
"I think that I - am, too."
Joel now was kind of stunned, looking at her seriousl, emotions flying high,  and slipped a little-
"You are?"
Y/N nodded.
He now entered the apartment and kissed her.
Tumblr media
Caroline now stormed out of her room and cut in the middle of the Y/N and Joel’s kiss saying-
"Klaus - has been in a car accident. It's not good."
“What? How? When?”- both Joel and Y/N now looked at Caroline, who looked for her car keys.
Joel’s pager now went off, and then said to Y/N and Caroline-
“I’ll drive”
Caroline nodded and all three of them rushed to the hospital.
