seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything

late nights
Tumblr media
(he's so cute <33)
Fandom: The Librarian(s)
Pairing: Flynn Carsen/Guardian!reader
Warnings: none
Summary: "one bed" trope on a late night. that's really it.
.
.
she was annoyed, to say the least. and tired. flynn was keeping dreadful work hours; he'd been up since 9:45 PM, and now it was 2:30 in the morning. she sighed, going to prepare him another coffee preemptively. he'd need it soon, if not already.
the kitchen of the library was a truly interesting place, but one that no one spent much time in, and unfortunately it showed. the shelves and cupboards were covered in a thin layer of dust, and each porcelain mug was brittle, old. whenever flynn came down to scrummage around for food, he somehow managed to make it into a worse mess than ever. she only hoped charlene, the resident neat freak, would never visit down here.
"coffee!" the librarian remarked appreciatively, taking a lasting gulp of the warm liquid. it made his eyes brighten just a bit, but she could see that nothing would stem the tide of sleepiness once it hit. with a snap of her fingers, the desk reset itself.
"no more tonight, flynn. look at yourself." it was true. his brown hair was mussed, his tie was missing and three of the top buttons on his shirt were undone.
"oh, come on." she shook her head at his protest, holding out her hands. "you're my guardian, not my mom." he continued to grumble all the way down the hall to his bedroom.
"where do you sleep by the way?" she asked, legitimately having never seen him go to bed.
"jus' down there." he pointed, and she could hear the promise of sleep creeping into his voice. he leaned on her shoulder as they walked. it was a long hallway.
"this is mine." flynn grinned sleepily, head lolling slightly to the side. the door was tall, sturdy, made of oak. it suited him in a way she'd never thought of before.
"right. so, get some rest. i'll be back tomorrow." and she turned to leave.
"why not stay?" his eyes were looking the cutest she'd ever seen them, all big and brown and nearly begging in nature. "why go all the way home only to come back three hours later?" he leaned against the doorframe, eyelashes fluttering in an effort to keep himself awake.
"i'd be alright with that… surely you've got extra rooms in this place, right?"
"uhh, nope."
she rolled her eyes. "you're telling me there is a grand total of one bedrooms in this entire, world-encompassing, magical library?"
"uhhh, yeah." he was beginning to nod off, still standing. "i mean if you'll have me; i've been told i'm a pretty good bedfellow."
"by whom?" and the door closed behind them. flynn started to pull off clothing as soon as the door was shut, disregarding the guardian standing very uncomfortably in the middle of the room. jacket first, then shirt, then pants. then-
"wh- what are you-" he blinked, as if suddenly realizing. with a grin, "i'll keep these on." he stumbled over to the bed, which lay precisely in the middle of the far wall. it was relatively large too; well, at the very least not small.
"a- are you sure there's nothing? not even a couch?" flynn rolled his eyes very visibly and slipped under the covers. mumbling something, he he threw them off the side he wasn't under, inviting her to bed with him.
that… was starting to not sound so awful, especially when he smiled. she sighed and shook her head, peeling off some of the tight layers this job had her frequent. then, she snuggled into the bed. it smelled like him, just like most things did, but this time it was different. maybe it was that she was in her underwear this time. actually yeah, that was probably it.
flynn grumbled softly, shifting to wrap an arm around her waist. she stiffened at the intrusion- skin on skin with her librarian for the first time. he nuzzled into her neck, spooning her. they fell asleep together, cuddled up in the darkness.
when she woke up he was snoring quietly, cutely against her skin. a little groan escaped him when she tried to move.
"mmm, stay." he murmured, half asleep.
"morning to you too, sleepyhead." and she poked him in the side.
"h- ey!"
bonus bit that didn't quite fit in:
they lay together all day, only getting up when flynn's stomach insisted on food.
"mm! this is truly delicious," he was saying, munching on a heavily buttered grilled cheese.
"you know everything about the library, right?" the question caught the man off guard, and he nearly dropped the sandwich.
"uhh…" he gulped down the bite in his mouth,
"yeah. yeah, why?"
"so when you asked me to stay here, you knew i would have to sleep with you?"
here the author would like to remark that the sound of a heavily buttered grilled cheese hitting tile floor is an exceptionally strange one. :)

Somebody don't let me forget that the first thing I need to do tomorrow is go to the post office before it gets hot out.
The curtain stayed up overnight. Now--will it survive the cats.......? Only time will tell..........
I was fucking around, this morning, with the stickers I've already started turning into pins. This book has a lot of letter stickers that I think would make fun pins--some of them are concealed in pages covered in a pattern, so it'll be exciting to see what I get. I think the letters, I'm going to mount to a sheet of cardstock that I happen to have. It was supposed to be for comic book day promotional samples, but I ended up not getting an oversized printer which is one of the things I need to remedy. But being able to do oversized prints is way down my list of expensive things I need to acquire. I need a vacuum first.
So I might as well make use of the materials I have and have fun with these stickers. After all, I only have a whole book, and this book has two companions that I fully intend to acquire. I believe cardstock will be a far better mounting medium than printer paper. Although the paper ones, once they were domed, did pretty well. I held onto a couple for when I put my artspo boards back up, and I might use the letters similarly. It'll be fun to put some of these homemade pins on my artspo boards. I might try to keep them to the edges so I can keep piling on new art inspiration in the middle.
Actually, with that in mind, my pinboard is being overrun by homemade pins. I gotta start treating myself to some of the enamel pins I've been excited to get. One is supposed to be in my mailbox right now. One more reason I have to remember to go to the post office. Honestly, that one I wasn't expecting to want, but I definitely had to have it. But this other one, I've had my eye on since, what, February?
I want to get this rug for my office that I'm excited about, and some organizers, and then I think I'm setting my sights on the vacuum of my dreams. I think with the organizer situation, I'm just going to have to start with putting my clothes in part of the organizer and my stuff in another part. Anything to get these totes put away out of my sight and out of my used space. Eventually, I'll be able to get some desktop organizers and move some of my art supplies out of my clothing storage space. I also have stuff haphazardly shoved on these closet shelves, but the closet shelves are.... kind of inaccessible and not very useful. They aren't meant to have art supplies shoved on them. So I'll just make the best with what I'm able to get ahold of.
I'd loooooooove to go to the container store but I probably wouldn't be able to--ahem--contain myself. Plus, I'd have coordinate carrying my purchases on the bus.
Speaking of art supplies, I'm always itching to have some nice colored pencils, so I'm going to solve that problem for myself and get ahold of some nice colored pencils.

Supermarket runs
Pairing: Jake × mc (Syianne)
Genre: fluff, humor
Words: 2.5k
Summary: Three times Jake ran into Syianne and one time he actually made plans.
Anonymous asked: Hello. If you do still requests, can you do 27 and 40, with Jake and MC from Duskwood from fluff? Sorry I forgot to add that.
Prompts: 27. "Are you blushing?" 40. "Why are you so afraid of loving?"
Notes: here it is! A cute meet up fic with Jake's point of view. I hope you like this one because it's going to be the last thing I'll be posting for a while 😬
Tumblr media
Jake had reached his new hideout just a few hours ago.
After evading yet another capture from the government and planting false trails in his wake, he had escaped to a small town, renting an apartment for the time being.
Opening the door to his new house for a few days, he put his cat down, opened his cage and let him explore. Glitch immediately disappeared and Jake put his bags down, sighing tiredly.
He needed to make a quick run to the store nearby, getting some food and other essential items since it was clear that they didn't stock it in the room.
Before he could change his mind, Jake picked up his wallet, locking the door and walked to the store he came across on his way over to the apartment.
It was a medium sized store, probably the one of the few in this small town. Jake browsed the shelves picking up the things he needed along the way. He avoided eye contact with everyone, putting his hood up.
When he was done, he quietly put the few cup noodles and microwaveable dinners on the counter and waited for the cashier to scan his items. Just as he went to pick up the first item, the cashier's phone rang and he glanced at the screen, eyes widening in surprise before his face settled into panic.
"Oh shit, oh shit, I completely forgot," he mumbled to himself frantically and giving Jake an apologetic glance, ran towards the back room.
Well then, it wasn't like he was in any hurry either. He didn't want to go back so soon anyway. He rocked back on his heels, adjusting his mask so that it still covered the lower half of his face and looked around in boredom.
From the backroom, he could hear two voices arguing, one male and other female and just when he thought that maybe it was going to take a while, the cashier ran out of the room, hefting a jacket over his shoulders and looked back.
"I owe you one, Syianne! Thank you so much!"
Jake tilted his head on hearing the familiar name, memories of conversations with his Syianne creeping up.
"You really do, Percy! I better have a three day weekend after this!" The girl shouted back and Jake smiled behind his mask. She even sounded like her.
The cashier yelled back something but he was already out the door to hear properly. The girl came out from the back, wearing her uniform jacket and grumbling about having to do two shifts, but Jake had frozen.
"Sorry about that. My coworker forgot about the date with his girlfriend and had to bolt. Between you and me, she's pretty scary so I'd be running too," she said, already ringing up his few items but Jake couldn't reply. He kept staring at her familiar face, which he had accidentally accessed when going through her chats before.
This was his Syianne.
She glanced at him, probably wondering why he didn't say anything before looking back on the screen. He broke out of his stupor when she told him the total and held up a bag with his items.
His fingers brushed against her and it felt like a lifetime, blood rushing to his cheeks and heart pacing.
"Thank you," he said and got a smile in return.
"You're welcome! Sorry about the delay earlier."
He shook his head rapidly, telling her that it was no trouble and he completely understood. That made her smile widen, her eyes crinkling with happiness.
"Come again soon!"
Oh, he'd be coming back very soon, indeed.
The first thing he did after reaching home was to power on his laptop and search for Syianne's location. Glitch hissed angrily at him for disturbing his slumber atop the chair he was now sitting in but Jake's eyes were fixed on the screen.
The results baffled him, as it showed her living in a completely different country from when he had searched her before, when he had just gotten her number. And then, realisation dawned on him that she might be using a VPN.
He banged his head on the table in frustration but also a little impressed that Syianne had thought of doing something like this to protect her identity.
He was supposed to stay away from all of them, to prevent pulling people into his messes but now one of the most important people in his life literally worked a walk away from his hiding place. He couldn't change places so frequently as it hadn't even been a day and he had to give some time to the police to cool off, before he got on the move again.
He sighed, too wound up to make anything but cup noodles, he got up and went into the kitchen. Glitch trailed behind him, sniping at his heels for his own food and Jake emptied the last can of cat food into Glitch's bowl.
With a jolt, he realised that he would have to go to the supermarket tomorrow again and it brought him equal parts of excitement as well as anxiety at the thought of seeing Syianne again.
———
The next evening, he put the cans of cat food on the counter and was disappointed to find that the guy from yesterday – Percy, if he recalled right – was going to scan his items.
Jake shifted the mask on his face and looked around to see if Syianne was somewhere but to no avail. If Percy noticed him looking around, he didn't say anything. When he grabbed the bag from him, the employee room opened and Syianne came out wearing casual clothes, a bag slung over her shoulder.
"See you tomorrow, Percy!"
She came out from behind the counter and her eyes widened in surprise as they fell on him.
"Oh hi! You're the one from yesterday."
Jake cleared his throat and let out a hesitant, "Y-yeah."
Percy snickered, throwing a knowing look at Jake before turning to Syianne.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow, idiot. Bring some coffee with you." He handed Jake his bag as he scrambled to bring out his wallet to pay and gave him a wide smile.
"Syianne here works the morning shifts." He winked and Jake was mortified to hear the amusement in his voice, knowing that he had been caught.
"I'm not bringing you anything until I get my three-day weekend. Anyway, nice to see you again…." She trailed off when she turned to Jake and his mind went into overdrive as he thought about whether he should tell her his real name or not.
"Phil." He blurted out, "My name's Phil."
She tilted her head, no doubt thinking about that bartender from Duskwood who was currently locked up in jail.
"Funny, I know a guy named Phil. Not from around here though." She glanced at the door giving him a final smile.
"Because all the customers come in the evening." Percy complained and Syianne only rolled her eyes at his antics.
"Well, come by in the morning if you want to chat. It's pretty chill that time."
"Deal with it. Anyway, see you tomorrow." She waved one last time and walked out, Jake's eyes following her figure until she disappeared around the corner.
"She's sweet and a little too trustful. I better not hear any complaints about you from her Phil or I won't hesitate to throw a punch or two." Percy threatened and Jake flushed before muttering a hasty excuse and practically running out of the store.
She actually talked to him today and hearing her voice, her words just made it harder for him to stay away. But it was okay if he didn't tell her who he was, right? She won't be in any danger then, right?
These thoughts chased him as he walked back to his temporary home, almost tripping over Glitch when he entered and found a disgruntled cat, waiting for his food.
———
The next morning, Jake worked in his room, occasionally shooing away Glitch who was determined to get his daily dose of affection.
"Just a minute, Glitch." He muttered, typing rapidly, his eyes scanning the screen with an eerie quickness.
A loud, disgruntled meow from his cat breaks the silence again and Jake heaved a frustrated sigh, pushing his laptop away and glaring at the culprit.
"Fine, you little devil! I'll give you breakfast first."
He walked out of the room, Glitch trailing behind him, purring in appreciation and hopped on to a chair while Jake took out the instant pancake mixture that he had recently bought. And that reminded him of the fact that Syianne was here, so close and whether he should tell her or not.
Making the pancakes in a daze, he put a plate in front of Glitch who immediately started gobbling it up. Jake huffed out a laugh and made his own plate, sitting across from his cat. The syrup was towards Glitch and when he leaned forward to take it, he was met by Glitch's paw swatting at his hand.
"What the hell? You ate already! Let me eat too!"
Glitch's paw rested on the syrup bottle and edged it towards the end of the table.
Jake froze.
"Glitch, no. Give me the syrup."
The bottle shifted a bit more.
"No, Glitch. Stop that."
The cat looked at him and stopped and Jake gave a sigh of relief, only to throw back his head in exasperation at the next moment as the bottle was finally pushed off the table.
"You little devil! I'm going to—"
The cat sprang up and ran into the other room, leaving Jake in the kitchen alone.
"Why is it always me?"
———
After cleaning up the kitchen and eating pancakes without any syrup, Jake found himself in the supermarket once again, embarrassed about being there everyday for the last three or so days.
When he put his items on the counter, including a syrup in a plastic bottle this time, he found himself facing Syianne who gave her an amused look.
"Having a good day, Phil?"
It took a moment for Jake to understand that she was talking to him and he flushed when he met her gaze.
"Not really. My cat decided to be an asshole today."
Syianne laughed and if Jake could have heard it everyday, he would. When she scanned his bandaids, she raised an eyebrow, and Jake gave her a sheepish smile, showing her his poorly wrapped hand.
"Oh no, that looks bad," she said but Jake only shook his head.
"It's better than it looks, I promise. I'm just bad at wrapping things up."
She didn't smile but only looked behind him. Seeing no more customers, she gestured for him to come to her side of the counter. Confused, he did as she asked and understanding dawned on him when he saw her opening the packet of gauze he had just bought.
"Oh, no, no. It's okay. I can do it at home." He rushed but she didn't listen, silently asking for him to hold his hand forward. When he realised that Syianne wasn't going to take no for an answer, he sighed and put his hand forward, face heating up and he regretted forgetting to wear a face mask that day.
"Are you blushing?" She asked teasingly and his flush only worsened.
"I-I'm not used to other people caring for me."
She hummed.
"That must be lonely."
She carefully unwrapped his hand, winching at the sight of blood and cleaned it with antiseptic wipes, before wrapping a bandage around the cut. Her hands were gentle but firm, as if she knew what she was doing and had done it a hundred times before. Jake was suddenly hit with a weird nostalgia, a feeling of wanting to know who she was, how many siblings she had, what her goals were.
He didn't realise when she had stopped, staring at him, as he was looking at her and only after several minutes had passed, did Syianne dropped her hands, letting him know that she was done.
The thought struck him like lightning and he quickly grabbed his bags, muttering another thank you and getting a simple smile in return. Before he knew, he was out on the streets and on the way to his house, his thoughts a raging turmoil.
"Thank you very much." He spoke softly, quietly, overwhelmed by such a gesture from her. He was essentially a stranger and she had still helped him, not knowing who he was.
She didn't know who he was.
What was he doing? Going to see her like that, finding excuses to go to the supermarket in hopes of seeing her? What did he want to accomplish?
He released a shaky sigh, running his hands through his hair, when he reached the place. Glitch, knowing that it wasn't the time for his shenanigans, only gave a welcoming meow from his place on the couch.
Maybe it was time he started searching again.
Jake opened his laptop but the ping from his phone made him look for it, heart quickening when he saw her name on it.
Syianne [5:00 pm]
Hey Jake!
How are you doing? I hope you're safe
I patched up a guy today who came in at work. He had a cat too!
Anyway, I don't know why I'm still writing but I hope you're safe and nobody got to you
Why are you so afraid of loving?
Sorry, insensitive question. Ignore that
Waiting for when you come back
...I'm still looking forward to that date
Jake's lips quirked at her messages, warmed by her concern. She had messaged him everyday ever since he went into hiding again. He hadn't replied then, being busy because of his relocation, but now….
In a bold move, very uncharacteristic for him, he messaged her back.
Jake [5:03 pm]
What if I told you that the guy you patched up was me?
Syianne [5:04 pm]
What?
His name was Phil
Oh
Jake waited as she typed and erased, all of it going on for two minutes before she stopped. Jake had a sudden, terrible feeling that perhaps he had made a mistake but soon enough, she replied.
Syianne [5:06 pm]
You're cute in real life as well <3
Jake laughed, amused by her flirty response and decided that perhaps he'd stay there for a few more days.
Syianne [5:06 pm]
What about that date at the Chinese restaurant you promised me?
Jake [5:07 pm]
Does tomorrow work for you? ;)

paring: Fumikage Tokoyami x fem!Reader
word count: 1.8k
warnings: none
gerne: fluff, romance
summary: Today should be a pleasant day as planned, you go to school, hang out with friends and do silly things with friends in the dormitory. However, since she was getting her period, she had to put all of that aside and spend her day alone in her room, so that's the way it was meant to be.
In a bad mood, the UA student clutched the covers and waited obsessively for the pain to stop.
Like any young woman, she had her period this morning unhappily so the pain prevented her from sleeping, but she planned to go on a date with her boyfriend right after school.
When the couple in love go for a walk through the city, eat various street foods, buy new clothes, and probably also new games in which they can play together and still see the sunset in a high mountain.
It's nothing special, but that Tokoyami has prepared everything gives her a guilty conscience.
Out of shame and hatred, she wrote her boyfriend that she unfortunately has to cancel the date, the pain will certainly go away, but it is clear that it would come.
After a few minutes someone knocked on the door, in a morning voice she said that the door is open and no one other than Tokoyami came, but not alone but with his classmates like, Deku, Denki, Ochako, Momo and Jirou.
Confused, she looked at her friends and waited for someone to say something, but instead of saying something, Denki threw himself on his good friend's bed and sighed that he would sleep too and made himself comfortable.
Deku and the others gave their friend something sweet to nibble on and, as they say among friends, wished them a speedy recovery.
Tokoyami stayed with his girlfriend a little longer to make sure that she is no worse than before.
He gently put his hand on her forehead, causing her to sigh softly and finally apologize, "I'm sorry. You have so much planned for today's date and what came ... my rules, but we could do it anyway, right?" "
"As long as you're not doing well, I don't want to risk anything. Besides, we could do a film marathon today, that sounds good, doesn't it?"
She nodded in agreement and closed her eyes and last heard how the door was slammed before she set off into her dream world.
TIME SKIP
After school, the boyfriend, in contrast to his classmates, made his way to the dormitory, but made his way to town so that he could buy small treats for himself and his girlfriend.
Unaccompanied, he went through the various shelves and took the snacks he thought his girlfriend would like.
When he got to the cash register, he put the purchases on the belt and waited for his cell phone to ring.
It was none other than (Y / N), he quickly accepted and ran through the city until he stuck out in front of a game store "Where are you?" immediately asked the friend.
She sounded tired, it could probably be that she just got up. "I'll probably be there in half an hour. Besides, I'm in town, are you feeling a little better?"
When Tokoyami asked his question, he walked in and saw the tons of games for Ps4 / 5, xBox but also Nintendo.
"Well, I've already felt better, but tell me what are you doing in town, it's raining all the time. You could catch a cold." worried the young friend and saw a series on her television screen that she doesn't even know.
"(Y / N)."
"Yes?"
"You sound like a mother, you don't need to say yourself, ok? If I am on my way, I will let you know or we could talk the whole time, but I have to do something important now. See you .”
"And?" asked Mina and ate what actually belonged to her friend.
Sighing, she gave in and said, mumbling, "He said he had something 'important to do' and was coming later."
"Understand."
TIME SKIP
A few hours have passed when Tokoyami finally enters the dormitory.
Some students were in the entrance and greeted him immediately, Denki approached Tokoyami and asked him if they wanted to spend the night with a series marathon, but he had to cancel so reluctantly, but why?
Because his girlfriend is not doing very well first thing in the morning, he thought that he could spend this time playing video games with her and probably watching one or the other film before that.
Tokoyami explained to Denki why he can't today, he nodded understandably and said that dinner was ready.
"I'll be there in 5 minutes." he sighs and made his way to his girlfriend.
Immediately after he knocked on his girlfriend's door about 3 times, it was opened immediately, but not by his girlfriend.
"Hello, Tokoyami." Mina pleased me and immediately turned to (Y / N) who finally got up from her bed.
"Tokoyami." she said and ran up to him, but when she wanted to hug him he immediately held a bag between the gap and said "You can see what's in there after dinner."
Lovely.
Confused, Mina Tokoyami stared and felt uncomfortable between the atmosphere of the two, so she clapped her hands together and said with glee "Ok, let's eat then, don't you think?"
In the dining room everyone talked to everyone, while (Y / N) sat between Momo and Tsu and talked to them, Tokoyami sat between Shoto and Iida, who were extremely quiet.
Sometimes she forgets herself that she is also here in the dining room.
"Hey, (Y / N)!" came the voice from across the room.
(Y / N) immediately stopped eating and looked in the direction where it was coming from, Kirishima.
"Is something? Do you need something?" she asked him immediately, but he didn't look like he wanted anything.
"No, I don't need anything, but thanks for asking. I mainly just wanted to know if you're feeling a little better?" he giggled and scratched his neck.
"Oh, thank you, I'm much better now."
Without a question, everyone continued with what they left off.
Today it was (Y / N) washing up, Ochako actually wanted to do it, but (Y / N) assured her friend that she didn't have to worry about anything and that she could go to her room.
Still, someone stayed by her side and it was none other than Tokoyami.
Of course he knows his girlfriend and knows that it is more of a challenge to have to persuade her to do something.
After several attempts, he finally gave in and helped her rather than persuading her to let him do the chores.
So while (Y / N) is doing the dishes, Tokoyami dries the cleaned dishes.
The only thing I was listening to in the room was the running water, rubbing the sponge and dishes and also rubbing through the dry cloth and the still wet dishes.
The friend sighed bored and finally turned the tap on, she turned her gaze to her boyfriend, who, however, seemed to be very busy drying off.
After Tokoyami was finished, he turned around and saw his girlfriend sitting on a chair, but she was staring bored at her screen and obviously didn't notice that her boyfriend was staring at her.
"(Y / N), are we going?"
Immediately she switched her cell phone to mute and got up from her chair and asked him "Are we going to my or your room?"
"I prefer your room." he said, because, unlike his room, it doesn't look as dark as his girlfriend's.
Once in the room, Tokoyami (Y / N) asked to sit down on her bed and be patient so that he would come back in about 5 minutes.
However, it appeared again in 3 minutes, albeit with a huge bag, if she had noticed it before, she doesn't think so.
"What is it, Tokoyami?" she wondered, getting up from her bed.
"Lie down again and I'll show you."
(Y / N) sat down giggling, because she doesn't get this side of Tokoyami in her face every day until she finally remembered something, the little bag.
Surprised, she asked Tokoyami what was there and pointed in the direction of where the little bag was.
He looked in this direction and got up with a sigh, sitting on her bed he asked which bag she would like to start with.
Thinking about it, (Y / N) first decided on the small bag.
When Tokoyami handed it to his girlfriend, he didn't know what to do himself, should he look at her unpacking, should he rather start a conversation with her, should he turn on the television or shouldn't he do it at all and stare at the floor?
The best was very promising for him, which is why he opted for this variant and stared at the floor while his girlfriend unwrapped the small gift.
It was a bracelet that was sealed under silver and on top of that his name.
Slightly wounded and yet shy, she looked at her friend, who stuck his left arm out.
He was wearing the same bracelet - which of course was engraved with his girlfriend's name.
"Tokoyami, I don't know what to say about that, except thank you."
In a warm hug, Tokoyami felt the warmth that (Y / N) carries within him, and he felt his girlfriend's heartbeat beating more and more against his body from second to second.
Tokoyami patted his girlfriend's back nervously and unsuspectingly until he breaks the hug in a few minutes and shows the big bag in front of her nose and says "You haven't opened this yet."
After several minutes, with the couple busy talking and opening the presents, the convulsions came at an inopportune moment.
Groaning from the pain, (Y / N) narrowed her eyes and asked her friend if he would really like to get a hot water bottle.
Nodding, he was already on his way and came straight back into the room, when Tokoyami (Y / N) handed over the hot water bottle, he put his somewhat announced hand on her forehead and noticed that she might have a fever.
"(Y / N), shall I-" shortly afterwards (Y / N) Tokoyami interrupted him to be able to spend the night with her.
"Is it okay if we play video games tomorrow? I'm not doing so well right now." apologized (Y / N) for what she can't and took Tokyami's hand and squeezed it a little tighter than before.
"You don't have to apologize for that, (Y / N). We can also play together another time, because as long as you're not feeling well, I'll stay by your side."
"Tokoyami."
"Yes?"
"Since when have you been different?"
"I wonder about that too." Dark Shadow's voice came out of nowhere.

I’m really getting back into writing these days with NCT inspiring me a lot, I didn’t expect that at all.
I thank every single one of you who liked the previous chapters and I think I’ll write a couple more on this story about Taeyong before getting onto something else (I’ve got a few ideas in mind with Ten, Johnny, Mark and Jaehyun) However since it’s slice of life, I’ll probably get back to it later.
I hope Chapter 3 is as enjoyable as the first two ! Take care !!

Once inside Taeyong looked like an excited kid in an amusement park, rushing in the living room and staring around. He examined every corner, every little things of your daily life which amused you because you would do the same in his stead.
The room was small, there wasn’t much stuff inside but some shelves with books and boxes, a desk on one side near the windows then a couch big enough for three to sit and a tv in front of it.
Taeyong was standing in front of the couch, captivated by the wall full of photos behind it. He could see your younger self with your first bike, you wearing a dirty apron on your first day as apprentice then other pictures more recent with your motorbike chapter, friends, family and finally some pictures of him, selfies he sent you over the months.
Sitting on the couch, waiting patiently for him to be done you looked up in his direction when you heard him giggle. He grinned at you and pointed at one particular photo on the wall.
“Your brothers and you look like three sizes of the same person.”
 It wasn’t the first time you heard that but you were curious to discover which picture made your boyfriend think that too so you turned around. It was the one from your first cousin’s wedding, you were posing with her and your two brothers wearing the exact same suits. You could only to admit that you did look like triplets in different shapes, your younger brother being taller and bulkier than you when your older brother was one head smaller with a leaner body.
 “So… tell me. Which size do you prefer?”
 You tackled him on the couch and tickled him until his giggles turned into a fit of laughter and he started squirming beneath your body.
Taeyong was a mess once you were done with him, his face hot and red and his chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath. He was so beautiful with his brown eyes full of mirth and his boyish smile, you felt your heart skip a beat.
You grabbed him by the waist and sat up, bringing him on your lap at the same time and waiting for his answer to your question. He looked you up and down, then back and forth between the photo and you, pointing your brothers with his finger.
 “Hm… this one looks as tall as me so it’ll be awkward when we hug… this one is definitely too big, he would crush me and this one…”
 He slid his arms around your neck and cocked his head from left to right, pretending to examine you. You played along with him, giving him your most charming smile and even copying some facial expression you saw him make on photoshoots.
 “Ohh~ this one is really hot but I don’t know, he looks too flirty…”
 You both burst out laughing, holding each other close until you finally calmed down and cuddled a little bit. Taeyong’s head was resting on your shoulder while you caressed his hair softly, kissing his lips and cheeks from time to time.
 “Alright Goldilocks, come with me. I'll show you around then you’ll see why I’m the best out of the three."
 You crushed your boyfriend in a bear-like hug, earning the cutest whine from him then got up. You were still holding him up in your arms as you walked toward your bedroom.
Since your apartment was bathed in light most of the day you preferred to keep the decoration simple, white walls and touches of dark grey here and there for the furniture, a large bed at the feet of which you displayed a big carpet and then drawers and hangers for your clothes. There wasn't much but it still felt cosy.
You carried him around to show him the toilets first then the bathroom, laughing at how excited he got because of the bathtub. In the end you went back to the living room, Taeyong still clinging at you like a koala as you took him out on the balcony to see the view on Paris’ roofs.
From were you lived you couldn’t see the Eiffel tower but you could catch glimpses of other famous places in the capital like Montmartre and a few others you pointed out to Taeyong.
 "You must've impressed a lot of dates with this view. Is that your special move?"
"Not really... but does it work?"
 As you were up several floors, you were holding him securely in your arms like your instincts told you he might drop if you didn’t. Taeyong leaned so his forehead was against yours and nodded slightly before kissing your lips.
 "We could have breakfast here tomorrow morning… with bread and croissants, what do you think, mon coeur?"
"Sounds good."
 You gazed at your boyfriend fondly and let him kiss you again, much longer this time, your lips still against his as you went back inside and laid him on the couch with you above. You felt Taeyong hand passing on your shaven head, making you shiver and press your body a little harder against his in return. He moaned softly when you started leaving kisses from his jaw to his neck, aware that you wanted to take things further than a few kisses.
 “Y/N… the visit isn’t finished…”
 You lifted your head and stared at your boyfriend, thinking about all the rooms you already showed him. From the bedroom to the toilet, you couldn’t think of more and raised a questioning eyebrow at him, clueless.
 “My apartment isn’t that big. I don’t have anything else to show you.”
 Taeyong shook his head vigorously, his big brown eyes staring at you with so much expectation you felt a bit sorry.
 “Come on! You didn’t even show me your special place !!”
 You oow-ed when you realized what he was talking about, a soft smile appearing on your face as you looked at him sheepishly.
 “I forgot about that.”
 He snorted at you then pushed you off his body. You watch Taeyong get up and stare down at you with a mocking smile.
 “You literally spend your life in your kitchen and you couldn’t even remember to show it first.”
“Like you’re one to talk… you can spend days playing video games.”
 He shrugged before taking your hands and helping you off the couch. You let Taeyong drag you through double windowed door, separating your kitchen from the living room with large glass panels instead of wall.
He looked in awe at how spacious it was in contrast with the other rooms, noting how well organised you kept it before sitting on the huge worktop.
 “I’ve seen you so many times here when we were on the phone… it feels so familiar and also weird to finally see it with my eyes… like a good kind of weird.”
 You chuckled but you knew exactly what he meant. You felt weird too. Having him by your side now was like a dream.
 “You have no idea how many times I wished you were there with me, Taeyong. I would be cooking and then I would look up… picture you geeking on the couch over there then at one point you’d smile up at me.”
 You cleared your throat, feeling embarrassed after this confession and avoiding your boyfriend’s gaze but Taeyong grabbed your hand in his, pulling you closer then kissing your palm to catch your attention.
 “We can realize your dream now if you want? Well, I mean after I’m done with showering… I feel kind of sticky.”
 You nodded at your boyfriend then sent him away with a kiss, to take his long-deserved shower.
Taeyong came back half an hour later and you couldn’t help checking him out as he crossed the living room and walked toward you in the kitchen. He had change into comfy sweatpants and a black sleeveless shirt that gave you a peak of his slender body from shoulders to the bottom of his ribs and was drying his hair energetically with a towel and looking slightly less tired.
 "God... I really needed this shower!"
“It felt good ?”
“A bath would’ve been better but yes. Now all that's left is a little bit of sleep and I'll be ready to roam the streets of Paris with you tomorrow”
He came to stand next to you while you were busy preparing dinner, sleeves rolled back on your arms and an apron tied around your hips. You smiled at him then focus back on your task, not realizing that you weren’t paying attention to what he was saying afterwards.
Cooking was a serious business to you so much that once your hands were busy with a knife or a pan, you tended to zone out. More than once, when you were on a video call with Taeyong he had to shout your name to get your attention back so when you barely responded to him, he was well aware that you were already “gone” and probably for a long time.
You were done peeling your potatoes and were focused on mincing garlic when you suddenly felt two arms come around your torso as your boyfriend hugged you from behind, his head reaching no further than your shoulder blade. You turned your head briefly to see him grinning lazily at you and you could feel that he had something in the back of his mind.
 “You come with me."
“Where?”
“To take a nap with me.”
 Knife half in the air and hand steady on one mushroom you were about to chop, you jumped when he bit on your shoulder lightly.
 “Tae!”
“Come~”
“What about dinner?”
“Later…. maybe… let’s take a nap Y/N”
 Taeyong was tiptoeing as his mouth ran from your shoulder to you neck, leaving kisses on the way then going back to biting your skin and making you lose focus.
 "Alright…alright. You go first and… I'll join you once I put the meal in the oven"
"Can't we just order something when we wake up?"
 You scoffed and turned around just to give your boyfriend an indignant look that made him roll eyes at you. Yes, you could be pretty dramatic. However, you really looked forward to cook something for your boyfriend once he arrived, as a butcher working with the most renowned restaurants in Paris, you knew your way in the kitchen and it was a bit of a matter of pride.
 "You really think I'll allow that your first meal in France is a take out?"
"I'm sure we can find some really good restaurant that do delivery."
"What the point of having a boyfriend who can cook if I can't even prepare something delicious to welcome you"
 You really wanted to brag and see his delighted face when he'd dig into your homemade meal but when he buried his head in your back and whined a little bit, you knew you had lost the battle against him.
.
"Y/N~ Can't it wait tomorrow? I just want to stay in bed with you"
 You sighed in defeat and let him take you in the bedroom, untying your apron on the way and throwing it on the kitchen worktop. You let yourself fall down on the mattress and opened your arms for your boyfriend to join you which he did, almost leaping onto you then laying down with his head on your hard chest as he giggled.
 "Happy now?"
"Very much"
 Taeyong let out a long yawn then pecked you on your pectoral and scoot closer to your side. You could feel his tense body relax as you cuddled.
 "Y/N...?"
"Hm?"
"Being in your arms is better than food."
"I think your lack of sleep makes you delirious."
 You laugh at his nonsense and kissed his forehead, tightening your embrace and watching over him as he closed his eyes. Enjoying the moment, you waited for his breathing to even out and his head to feel heavier on your chest, both signs that he was well asleep to slip out of bed and back into the kitchen.

In My Reality | Prologue
Hey, I was bored so I decided to start a fanfic series of the Tatsumi Brothers from Juuni Taisen. Yay
It’s a “Tatsumi Brother x Reader” story about how the Tatsumi Brothers enter the reader’s reality which kinda flips her world upside down.
So I just finished the prologue. If you guys like it or if I’m bored again, I’ll make the first chapter. (Click “Keep Reading” to read the story)
Tumblr media
"[Name] get out of bed; It's 3 in the afternoon," my mom told me as she came into my room with fresh, clean clothes. I didn't have to look over to know.
Groaning, I removed my mask from my eyes then rolled over to face up at the white ceiling. The sunlight seeping in from the blinds caused my sight to cringe before it finally adjected to the light and I could see the grey walls lurking in the corner of my eyes. Arising from my queen-sized bed a yawn escaped from my mouth. My form reached over and placed my sleep mask on the nightstand, next to my water mug.
"Morning mom," I greeted her as she sorted out the pile of clothes on my dresser. Looks like she did a colour load, which means no pants to put away.
"Morning sweetheart. Can you put your clothes away before you come downstairs?"
"Sure," I simply answered as I slipped out of the cozy sheets I once was tangled in.
"Thank you. I'll see you when you come down," she stated, placing the last of my t-shirts neatly on the others. Afterwards, she wrapped her arms around the remaining clean, clothes that weren't mine, carefully balancing them as she left my room and closed the door behind.
The click of the doorknob echoed into my ears when my feet landed on the fuzzy rug. My eyes drifted their gaze to the plain black bodypillow wrapped in [f/c] blankets, reminding me of a burrito. It just had the colour for the case, no special Anime character on it. I wish there were one though; it'd make the nights seem less lonely to see my favourite character's face on it. However, a pillow is a pillow. Despite me using it as an illusion for myself it doesn't change the reality that when I hug it in my sleep or when I'm awake no arms will return my embrace.
A sigh falls out of my breath, my eyelids dropping in sync. I turned my head away from the lying pillow and dragged myself to the other side of my bed, towards the dresser that patiently held the clean clothes my mom put there. I opened a drawer, putting my undergarments away first then my socks. Once those were put away, I moved to retrieve hangers from my closet, passing by my desk and shelves as I did.
If you were wondering why I slept so late into the afternoon, well, it's currently winter break, so that means I can stay up late and sleep in late past noon. Sadly enough, it's January which means the break almost over, and that means school is standing around the corner, menacingly. Just the thought of it disturbs my mind as that reality tries to infect my thoughts.
I hate reality. I know not all of it is shit, but there's enough of it that makes me want to drown myself in the world of fiction. Whenever it's the weekend or breaks from school, I binge Anime, tv shows, YouTube, and movies, so that's the only thing on my mind. I then write or read fanfiction, there is the rare occasion I sketch something but I'm not good at art since I don't practice enough. By the time I return to reality after having my head stuck in my imagination for so long, I can barely focus without going back to daydreaming. Eventually, that wears off, and then reality is what floods my brain; I despise it but I know I can't be stuck in my fantasies forever. Luckily my friends provide that nice spot in-between for me, helping me stay in the real world but also let me discuss the fictional. Then there's also my bro.
"Yo sis," my brother's voice called from the other side of the door after his fist knocked on it. "You wanna continue Code Geass?"
My bro is the best. Unlike most siblings I know, we actually get along. He's also a big help in my life, one of the reasons why I haven't lost my mind. He makes sure I don't overwork & stress myself and reminds me to have fun and chillax. I love him for it, and he's practically my best friend. We aren't the exact same age but we were born in the same year, just a few months apart so we get to be in the same grade. He's the older one. He's also taller which means he can t-pose over me, and we reenact the meme; it's great.
"Yeah," I answered. "Just let me get ready."
"Alright," he replied before I felt the vibration of his footsteps grow distant from my room.
'Heh, if I had Takeyasu's ability, I'd be able to sense his movement better.'
I chuckle to myself at the thought floating in my mind as I put the final shirt away. My two favourite characters that I desired to be real was the Tatsumi Brothers, Nagayuki and Takeyasu. I love those two. Whenever I watched their episodes from Juuni Taisen, I always smile. They make my heart feel something that I never felt for any character before. I don't want to be cliche and say true love, but to me, that's what it feels like. I know they're fictional characters, so I won't get much out of it, but strangely enough, I'm okay with that. I can't imagine my heart belonging to anyone else. I do wish they were real, though. I even used my wish on the bracelet my friend, Meri-chan, got for my birthday one year, that they'd become real.
The bracelet was some urban legend. It was lime green and had a few beads on it. The legend goes that you make a wish and when the bracelet breaks, your wish has come true. 'Course, it's most likely a bunch of baloney but that didn't stop me from wishing that the Tatsumi Brothers would become real. I currently just wear the bracelet as an accessory since the wish probably won't happen, it's not like the thing is going to break anytime soon.
Grabbing my towel, my other hand opened my door. I slipped down the hallway and slid into the bathroom, my foot pushing the door closed as I put the towel on the towel rack. Hopefully, I don't take too long because we were left on edge on the last episode of Code Geass we watched. Well, I'll finish sooner than my wish coming true that's for sure, heh.

"Okay bro but if you think about it, Lelouch-"
"[Name], I washed your school uniforms. Can you put them away while I start on tacos?" Mom requested from the kitchen, interrupting the Anime, my commentary, and reminding me that school is coming soon. "You too, [b/n]."
"Yes, mom," we both respond.
My brother picked up the remote and hit the pause button so we wouldn't miss anything. I pulled myself up from the plush couch, disappointment growing on me since I had hoped not to be interrupted until dinner was ready. Well, I guess I could let the disappointment wither away since it's Taco Tuesday, my favourite. I chuckled to myself as my feet reached the next level above the main floor and headed down the open hallway to my room.
My laughter died out upon seeing my seven school uniforms, five that were the regular female uniform and two that were gym uniforms. Unlike most students, I didn't like the idea of having to wash my uniform every day, so to make things simpler, I paid for six more with my own money. It was a bit irritating, using the money I earned from my summer job for this instead of getting something else. Still, my practical choice, so I didn't necessarily have to worry about my mom washing my uniform every night.
"Hhhhhh, why does school have to come back so soon?" I asked myself as I picked up one of the uniforms.
The uniform wasn't too special, a simple white blouse, a blue skirt, a blue jacket, and a blue & black striped tie. Students could decide if we wanted to wear tights, leggings, or shorts underneath the skirt as long as it was black or white. I wore leggings unless it was summer which I then wear shorts and knee-high socks. There are those girls that only wear thigh-high socks and panties under their skirt to which my nerd brain questions why. 'Course that's their choice, have fun with your ass cold.
A Discord ringtone made me resurface from my pond of inner thoughts. Becoming aware of my surroundings, I realized my friends Meri-chan and Kamida were calling on the Discord group chat we had. I could tell by the laptop I had open on my desk. I quickly put the uniform I had in hand on the rack with the others before sliding over and clicking the answer button that popped up.
"Yo, what's up nerds."
"Hey I'm not a nerd," Meri-chan protested. "I'm a cool kid."
"Meri-chan, we're all nerds here," Kamida stated before greeting me. "Hey [n/n], how you doing?"
"Eh, good I suppose but I could be doing better, Kami," I answered simply. "How's life?"
"Pretty chill but I got bored, so I decided to call you guys."
"Well, I'm just putting my uniforms away," I informed them and went to put the last uniform away.
"I sometimes forget that you have more than one," Meri-chan commented before I heard her gasp. "Hey, how 'bout we hang out tomorrow, we only have so many days before we have to go back to school."
"Oh, don't remind me," I groaned, hanging my head, then went back to putting the uniform on the hanger and walking over to the closet, hanging it up with the rest.
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea Meri-chan, we could hang out tomorrow," Kamida suggested.
"I'm down," Meri-chan quickly responded.
"Welllllll..." I hesitated, sitting down in the [f/c] spinning chair in front of the desk.
"[Name]."
"You see, I kinda want to stay inside my last few days..."
"[n/nnnnn]!" Meri-chan whined.
"Come on [Name], you know you can't stay cooped up inside forever," Kamida reminded me.
"I know," I grumbled, leaning back in my seat. "Fine, I'll come out tomorrow, but it's going to be after 2."
"2 am, geez [n/n] I didn't know you'd be willing to come out that early," Kamida joked.
"I meant 2 pm," I corrected.
"Okay," he chuckled as Meri-chan pipped in.
"But if you're late again, you're buying lunch this time."
"Okay, bet, but what if I'm not?" I inquired, my fingers tapping on my desk.
"Mmmmmmm," she hummed, seemingly to be thinking.
"It's fine I'll pay for lunch tomorrow."
"Alright, but don't use it as an excuse to be late."
"I won't," I reassured her. "Anyway, I'm gonna go watch a few more episodes of Code Geass with my bro-"
"You still need to watch Dragon Ball Z," Kamida interrupted.
"And you need to watch Juuni Taisen," I countered, emphasizing the "you".
"Yeah, yeah," he brushed it off. "Anyway, go have fun with your bro. We'll call again later on tonight."
"Alright, bye guys." I left the call and closed out of discord then proceeded to shut my laptop.
Kamida and Meri-chan were my two friends from school; we've known each other since childhood. 'Course Meri-chan isn't Meri-chan's real name, that's just a nickname Kamida and I gave her. Occasionally, they called me [n/n]-chan but not too often. Then there are times where we call Kamida, Kami-kun, but mainly Meri-chan does it out of spite since Kamida doesn't like it. Especially when Meri-chan does it in her kawaii voice. Those two are the only ones outside of family that have the same vibe I do, that's probably why we've been friends for so long.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey, you guys ever wish fictional characters could become real?" I randomly asked out of the blue, staring up at the white ceiling as I waited for my friends over the call to answer my question.
"All the time," Meri-chan answered.
"We know simp," Kamida smugly commented.
"Nuuu!" Meri-chan pouted while Kamida and I laughed. "Hey, if anything [n/n] is the simp over here, she's the one actual crushing on the characters."
"Hey don't call me out like that."
"Ha! She doesn't deny it," Kamida jeered.
"Okay, what about you and Android 21?"
"Ack-" Kamida blurted before muting himself, causing me and Meri-chan to giggle. A few seconds pass by before he unmuted himself. "Why are you asking this question [n/n]?"
"No reason in particular-"
"Are you sure it's not you wanting to talk about Juuni Taisen?"
"No- it's not just that. I just think fictional characters would make reality interesting."
"Right..."
"Meri-chan if you could bring someone from Juuni Taisen to-"
"My boy Uuma! You should know this by now."
"Bruh-"
"Well, it's either that or Usagi, and I rather be alive thank you."
"Who's Uuma again?" Kamida inquired, not knowing who was who quite yet since he hasn't watched the Anime.
"Uuma is the warrior of the horse," I informed him.
"Right," Kamida mumbled before letting out a yawn.
"You sound tired, go to sleep!" Meri-chan told Kamida.
"No, you go to sleep."
"Guys, we're all on the same timezone. If one of us goes to sleep then we all do," I stated. "It makes sense since we're all planning on meeting up tomorrow."
"I guess we go to sleep," Meri-chan said bluntly.
"Yeah, alright, goodnight guys," Kamida yawned.
"Night."
"Night guys."
With that, we each left the call. I, however, didn't fall asleep right away. I woke up late and the night was still pretty early, so I opened up the Funimation app on my phone. Scrolling through the list of saved Anime, most of which were halfway through since my brother and I are watching them together, I came across Juuni Taisen.
"Why not..." I muttered to myself as my finger tapped on the Anime and went right to click on episode 7, In Like a Dragon, Out Like a Snake (Part 1).
By the time I finished episodes 7 and 8, it was 2 am when my eyes glanced at the clock in the top corner of my phone. Sighing to myself, I leaned over and snatched my charger off the nightstand, plugging it in the wall before connecting the other end to my phone. Turning off my phone, I placed it on the nightstand and snagged my sleep mask, putting that on my head.
As I laid there on my bed, silence flooded the room, not a sound to be heard but my own breathing. Vines of sorrow began to grow on me as the feeling of loneliness came over me. I tried to pull myself out of the emotion, turning over and wrapping my arms around the plain bodypillow in an attempt to comfort myself. In the end, it only helped slightly. It didn't erase the pain because I knew there were no arms that would hug me back. A tear escaped my eyes before I pulled my mask over them, and a final thought appeared in my mind before I entered the dream realm.
'I wish I wasn't alone...'
"Congratulations, Tatsumi {Ani|Otouto}, warrior of the {dragon|snake}!" Duodecuple exclaimed. "You are the winner of the 12th Juuni Taisen, everyone give yourself a hand!" The man started to applaud but soon stopped. "The antidote has settled in by now. You'll be fine."
{"Tch|Alright"} the Tatsumi brother simply responded.
"Now that you've won the Juuni Taisen, you can make one wish of your choice. Would you like to make your wish now, or would you like for it to be granted later?"
"In all honesty, when I arrived at the Juuni Taisen I wished for {nothing|money}, I didn't need anything else really but now that {I'm here|I had time to think about} I don't want to wish for {nothing|money}."
"Oh, do you have another wish in mind?" Duodecuple inquired the Tatsumi brother sitting in front of him, alone.
"Yeah... I wish me and my brother were never apart of the Juuni Taisen."
As the official manager of the library of Erebor, I had numerous responsibilities —I didn't even dare to count them—, but ever since the young prince had started courting me, difficulties were added to my work.
He would present in the library at any moment of the day and would find an excuse for me to pay him attention.
More often than not, for obvious reasons, I would indulge Kíli's wishes and would allow myself to get distracted by his words and his kisses, and leave the work aside for a little bit.
I'm not going to lie, having him there, teasing me, listening to his stories or rambling about any topic related to his life was a breath of fresh air.
He was joyful, curious, quite handsome, and he was not only interested in me, but in what I had to say.
However, there was a difference between sitting against one of those massive shelves with him once a week, and doing said thing once a day.
I could see the foreshadowing of what was about to fall upon my shoulders, but it didn't sink in until I saw the loads of parchments, documents, books and work in general that I had to take care of in one day.
I was halfway through a very intensive working day when the door opened. I had no need to look up in order to see who it was.
"Good afternoon, amrâlimé." I rolled my eyes at his words and looked up to see him plop down in one of the chairs. "what are you doing?"
"working." I shortly replied, moving around as fast as I could. I hadn't intended to be rude but I knew he was going to be a not so welcomed distraction and that didn't put me in a better mood.
"You look like you've been here for too long." he pointed out when I threw myself down on me chair to start signing the documents that needed to be out of the library by tomorrow morning. "Maybe you could use a break."
"No, I could not." Once again, the sharpness in my tone was not meant to harm.
"Did I do something wrong?" The prince questioned worried. "Are you mad?" he got up from his seat and cautiously approached me. "I'm sorry if I-"
I shook my head no. "Don't, you didn't do anything wrong Kíli." I assured him, making a brief pause to give him a reassuring look. "I'm just behind schedule and- it's just a lot, I didn't mean to be rude." I turned to the desk to order the documents and then I stood up, taking them to a separate table. "You should go."
"Why?"
"You're going to distract me." I stated, grabbing a parchment from the floor and laying it on its place.
"But you need company." he protested, following me as I moved around the enormous stance. "Or else you will go crazy."
"Kíli, I'm telling you," I stopped abruptly, making him crash against me, though his hands steadied me before any damage could be done. "it's already too difficult for me to finish on time." I explained, grabbing some misplaced books and moving away.
"You don't have to finish on time." he suggested, still trailing behind me. "Tell your boss that you are not feeling well."
"Kíli I am the boss."
"Oh?" I could see the gears in his mind turning, trying to find an easy way for me to get out of that situation. "Well, tell my brother."
"Your brother has no legal authority whatsoever over this." my reply triggered a sigh in him.
"Tell Thorin."
"I'm not going to tell the King Under the Mountain ." I replied with wide eyes. "Part of my responsibility is being in charge of this so the king– your uncle– doesn't have to worry about it."
"Well then, I'll help you."
"No?"
"Why?" he stepped to be in front of me, shielding me from the shelves. "This is kind of my fault."
"Because you are the prince." I moved past him to get the books I was holding in their respective places. "You have better things to do."
"An example?"
"Prince's things." he let out a snort at my answer. "How am I supposed to know? They are not mine to accomplish."
"A good prince must help his folk."
"A good prince must behave like a prince."
"I behave like a prince."
"You behave like a kid."
"But you love it."
I sighed, going back to my stone table to keep ordering the ancient parchments displayed all over it.
"C'mon." both his hands appeared in front of me, tugging mines and taking them to his lips to plant a sweet kiss on the back of each one. "Let me help, I will be obedient."
"You are a lot of things," I started with a half smile, "but obedient is surely not one."
"For you I will." I scoffed, though his eyes seemed sincere. "I promise, I will do as you say." his head tilted to the side as I weighed his proposal. "I gave you my word, if you don't accept I'll be offended."
"That's emotional blackmail." I pointed out, staring intently into his eyes. "and those puppy dog eyes are too."
"Are they working?" he asked, making a small pout.
"You really are begging to do my work, huh?"
"If doing so spares me more time with you," he gave my hands another tug, leaving our faces way too close. "then yes, I'm begging to do your work."
"You are something else." I whispered, leaning on to give him a kiss, which he happily returned, his fingers no longer interlaced with mines, but pulling me closer to him by my waist.
"So?"
"You can help me." I declared, pulling away from him so I could go back to work. "Why don't you start-" he was now behind me, his hand wrapped around my waist and his lips ghosting over my neck. "See? You're already distracting me." I scolded, subconsciously leaning against him.
"I'm sorry." he apologized softly, moving away to stand besides me. "what do I do then?" he inquired with a smile, which I gladly returned.
We worked all night, falling asleep in that same place and getting just a couple of hours of rest probably, but we finished all the tasks.
A servant accidentally woke us up when he entered the library to carry the documents to Thorin. He didn't say a word when he saw the young prince asleep besides me with our hands held and our heads way to close to each other, and I was thankful for it.
"Thanks for staying." I whispered into his ear, and in response, he leaned on me and tugged my hands to him.
"what time is it?" Kíli grumbled, burying his face on my arm to hide it from the sunlight.
"Time to wake up." I replied. "Unfortunately."
"No, it's time to go to sleep on a proper bed." he stated, his eyes barely open when he got up and dragged me out of the library with him. "C'mon."
"Kíli."
"What? Don't oppose."
I was going to complain but I was exhausted and the thought of falling asleep in an actual bed with the brunet cuddling me was way too appealing.
"I won't."
IV. Sorry, My Dear
Tumblr media
⚠️⚠️TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️⚠️
The following story contains themes of suicidal thoughts and addiction. Please do not read if you find these themes triggering in any way. Read this post before reading this piece of FICTION
Have you heard the story of the guy,
Who decided not to die?
"Another day at the office...another day in hell." Jae mumbled to himself. The black lettering seemed never ending as he moved page after page.
Everyone was long gone and he was left with his thoughts that reflected the current state of his desk: scattered and full on unwanted words.
"Come on, Jae. Let's go get drinks with Boss." Jae had mimicked the voices of the other associates that worked in the office today. "No. I'm good. Got to finish this work. Beep-boop-boop." He moved his arms in a robot-like fashion.
"Look at me. Working me life away. Jaehyun. That's my name." He moved the papers in random places. This would be Jae's 4th breakdown this week where he needed to tell himself to hold on until tomorrow.
Johnnny looked on in concern from behind the entrance wall. "No good, Jaehyun. Don't wear it out." Jae's hands waves over his head in a dramatic fashion as he pushed himself around in his wheeled office chair.
It wasn't until Johnny saw Jae's hands form into a gun shape that he intervened in the middle of his best friend's scary emotional outburst.
"Jae! There you are!" He rushed over and punched his friend's arm. The look in Jaehyun's eyes made Johnny uneasy. It looked like he had been caught which made him break more. "You almost finished? I wanted to catch a movie with you and maybe have a hangout night," Jae was taken aback by the energy outburst at 2 am.
He could only look at Johnny's excited face from where he sat in his chair, strands of hair obstructing only pieces of his vision. "I got the new Call of Duty and PubG for the console." Johnny's hands rummaged in his pockets till he pulled out his phone, his eyebrows wiggling fiercely. "It's only...2:17. We got all the time in the world."
Johnny picked up Jae's suit jacket that was thrown over the cubicle wall and the younger boy's heavy bag. "I'll drive." Johnny pulled Jae up and turned off his lamp.
They were in the darkness of the office and Jae was still shocked that he was caught before he got worse.
"What do you wanna eat? Steak? McDonald's? Junk food?" Johnny's rambling was tuned out of Jae's mind. He followed the taller man willingly down and out of the office building and to his familiar car.
"Uh...doesn't matter." Was the first thing that came out of Jaehyun's mouth. "Then we'll get everything." Johnny's laugh made Jae's heart swell with hope for the first time in weeks.
'Maybe next time,' he thought, 'I'll hang out with Johnny one last time.'
The car ride was filled with laughter and being in the cold air surrounding the both of them.
Johnny still wonders to this day what would've happened if he didn't walk in the time he did. He had been called to pick up the paperwork from Jae's desk but was met with a sad reality.
Jaehyun wanted to escape reality.
Just kill me in my sleep,
Smother me with pillows and kindness, in which I have never seen
This was it...this was the day. He's written the letters and found a place to go calmly. He was in a euphoric sense that nothing really mattered anymore.
He had been on cloud 9 all week as he's happily been overworked and no one ever asked how he had been doing.
Right now, he was just driving. Driving to take in his home city one last time.
The sun was setting when he came to Han River Park. The clusters of happy people congregated in small bursts of happiness and 'its okay' and 'everything will be alright's.
He parked and stood at the grass's edge. He took deep breaths as the air swept across his body calmly. "Everything is so beautiful." He whispered to himself as he watched the birds dance across the water with such grace.
The lump in his throat that made it home was beginning to ache. Yet, he swallowed his pride and continued looking over the people who would continue their own story's even after his had reached the end. The credits would roll and everyone would walk away from the theater without a second thought.
"I mean. I get that's it's pretty. But I haven't seen someone cry at the scenery since my last romance movie." He was snapped out of reality to see a girl standing next to him.
"Excuse me?" Was all he could manage to get out.
You chuckled, sticking your hand out. "Y/n." You introduced yourself and he was trying to not shake your hand, look the other way, and leave without another word being exchanged.
"Jaehyun." His actions spoke for him as he reached his hand out to meet yours. Your hand was soft and warm in his. A warmness and calm he hasn't felt in a while.
"I'm gonna go get some ice cream. Wanna come?" You barely knew him and we're asking him to accompany you to a sweet treat. "You don't know me." Jae got defensive, his arms crossing over his chest.
"I could be a murderer and you invited me for ice cream?" His questions had your face turn up. "Well I'm sure that murderers like ice cream too. So let's go." You grabbed his arm and pulled him down the long stretch of concrete. You walked and tried to match your steps with his long strides. Your arm cutely wrapped around his as you walked.
"So tell me about yourself, Mr. Jaehyun."
He figured living was just easier than falling really high
"We need to clean." You whined while rolling around in the vast bed full of messed up sheets and a relaxing Jaehyun. "Not now. I just wanna cuddle." He grabbed your body and held you close.
"No. We've been cuddling all day. We need to clean." You got up and pulling at his hands. "You can clean the closet and I can clean the rest of the room. Then cuddles." You reasoned and he groaned as he got up, giving into your wishes.
"Fine." He automatically sat on the ground and opened your shared closet doors.
"I'll be tidying up around here." You ruffled his hair and kissed the top of his head sweetly. "If you need anything just shout." He called as you exited the room to probably start on the kitchen.
Box after box of paperwork and more paperwork from the last 10 years of working in his like of work.
Your singing could be heard through your house as you comedically sang some of the greatest hits. His laughter broke through the apartment when your own voice shook with laughs.
He came upon some photo books with Polaroids of you and him. The last 2 years had been lived in a heaven like state. He hadn't touched alcohol and drugs like he was earlier in his life...before you changed him.
His physical and mental growth were apparent in the pictures as he flipped through the pages. Your hand drawn hearts and small journal entries under some photos had his heart beating rapidly with joy.
He put the book next to his side to look at later with you. His hand came across an unmarked cardboard photo box that had a thin layer of dust on it.
He jiggled the lid off and was met with envelopes. The letters. His notes to his bosses and his friends apologizing for what he was about to do.
Apologizing for the mess they were going to have to clean up in his apartment and in the office where his files would never be filed. Apologizing for giving up so easily and not serving out the rest of his life like he had sworn. Apologizing for not being strong enough to ask for help when he really tried to make it obvious. Apologizing to whoever had to find him after it was all said and done.
Apologizing for not saying goodbye.
"Hey. Do we have any tile cle- oooo letters. Who are they to?" Your voice had made Jae jump like when Johnny caught him that dark night in the office. Like he was caught doing and thinking stuff he shouldn't be.
"No one. Me. In 50 years. Y'know," he shrugged, tossing them back in the box and throwing them in the closet and standing up quickly, "time capsule thing me and the guys did." He shrugged it off and you could only nod.
"Well that's cool. Can't wait to see how you've grown." Your smile had his own lips mimicking in want. Wanting to have your blissful ignorance of what those letters really were.
"Oh yeah. Do we have any more tile cleaner?" You asked and he lead you out to the closet where he scowered the top shelves in search for the cleaning supply.
"You can have it. For a kiss." He held it above his head. You waste no time in kissing his cheek and pulling on his arm till you grabbed the cleaner and ran. His laughs chased your own as you both wrestled for a while.
Both of you laid on the living room carpet, just enjoying the close presence.
His heart was at peace.
I'm okay,
I'm okay,
I feel a little bit sick
You had began to notice how Jae had been getting more dull. A year had passed since the night you pointed out the letters. It began to go all down hill from there.
He gave you the same love and affection he usually did, but his eyes held no emotion to big events outside. Alcohol had started to replace meals and sleep.
"Jae you need to eat." You laid a hand on his shoulder softly. "I'm actually going to go grab a drink with some of the boys." And like that. He was out of the apartment. Yet, everytime he came stumbling in the front door with a stench that could repel nuclear waste, you nurses him into bed. Setting an aspirin and water next to his head. Most nights didn't wrap up until 4 am when you knew he was home safe.
You slept with your arms wrapped strongly around his body, afraid he would try to get up and leave to drink again without you noticing.
Mornings would be a rough time as you awoke to a sick Jaehyun who couldn't tell left from right. You were there were comforting words and endless services if bet only asked.
His guilt ate at his chest till there was a free falling feeling that would cease when he took his first shot.
He knew he was getting bad again. He knew he needed to get help but everytime he woke up to face an aspirin and a cool glass of water, the guilt made him drink even more the next night.
He sometimes wished you would leave him to make this easier on you. He wished you would fall out of love and go to bed before he got home.
He wished you didn't introduce yourself in the first place.
But have you heard,
The story of the guy who decided not to die?
Jaehyun got clean again. He started being more present in reality and eventually returned to normal. Sometimes he did get carried away with the alcohol but you were there to help him put down the bottle.
He started openly hanging out with his friends in large gatherings where he didn't mind starting the conversation. He got addicted on life again.
You were all out on a big dinner. You and the other women of the mafia men gathered in the social room while Jae and his closest friends talked and joked around in the parlor.
"Want another drink?" Mark asked as he nudged Jae's elbow. "No I'm okay. I hit my limit for the night."
His friends were the most supportive people that he originally thought wouldn't be. Once be reached his limit, they all switched to fruity drinks followed by water. "So I need your guys' help with something." Jae smiled, taking the blue chalk and rubbing it on the worn end of the billiard's stick.
"What's up, dude?" Johnny asked and all the boys tuned into Jaehyun and his request. "I want to propose to y/n." He said and the room automatically erupted in shouts and cheers. "Sssshhhh." He tried to shush everyone. They remembered the presence of the women in the building and quickly shut up.
"Y/n said she wanted a wedding in the flower fields about.." Jae recalled the previous conversation he had with you. "2 hours from here?" He said and Hyuck automatically knew which ones he was talking about. "It's going to have to be a spring wedding!" He said excitedly and grabbing a pad of paper and a pen from his pocket.
"Alright, lover boy, spill." He said knocking all of the pool balls out of the way, "hey we were playing!" Doyoung protested and Hyuck could only write down the location of the fields, "I'm helping our brother get a wife. Go play with your balls somewhere else." He back handed which caused the room to erupt in laughter.
"Okay. Now. I'm going to need time to get the catering. I'm thinking pork," Hyuck rambled writing down the possible ideas, "or is she more of a chicken person?" he continued which caused some of the boys to chuckle at the wedding-excited nature no one knew Hyuck possessed in himself.
"Also I need to find a cake. I would make it myself but we all know that these beautiful hands would be wrinkly by the time I'm done icing cake for 500 people-" "500?!" Jae said loudly which caused Johnny to slap a hand over his younger friends mouth. "Well duh. That's a minimum." Donghyuck shook his head, drawing a picture of what the cake needed to look like. "amateur."
"I need to get the ring first." Jae said quietly and Taeyong piped in. "Don't even worry about it. I'll take you in the morning to the jewler's to pick out the bands and diamonds. Maybe you could get an engagement ring with her birth stone then the real ring with yours and your wedding band could have hers." Taeyong started rambling ideas, Hyuck writing lightning speed on the pad of paper.
"I call doing the gifts!" Mark and Jungwoo said at the same time. "I'm nominating myself as the planner." Hyuck said writing the roles down. "I'll get the tuxes for us." Taeil nominated himself for the job with a smile. "We need to get Yuta and the rest of the boys up here!" Doyoung brought up a good point.
"Yuta will just bring baby supplies. We're not telling him until a day before the ceremony." Hyuck pointed at the boys but was met with a hit upside the head from Johnny.
"I have to find out the color palette. I'll go to Renjun and then I'll go to Jaemin for the fireworks- Jisung will be the flower girl." Donghyuck kept rattling off things he needed to get done.
"Thank you for giving me this job. I won't let you down." He finally said, laying a hand on Jaehyun's shoulder.
"Better not. It need to be perfect for her. Perfection deserves perfection." Jae said and some gagged while other coo'd at his unwithering love you for you.
The chatty hustle didn't cease as Johnny patted on Jaehyun's shoulder. "You okay?" Johnny asked with a smile on his face. Jaehyun couldn't keep the smile off of his own face. "Never better. On cloud 9." He said and Johnny's heart eased from the constant fear of Jae not being here the next day. But he didn't need to worry anymore.
"I actually need to ask you." Jae said finally putting the polished stick down on the table. "Will you be my best man?" Johnny's eyes lit up like fireworks as he brought Jae in for a manly yet friendly hug.
"I'm so proud of you, Jaehyun."
I'm enamored with the thought of seeing angels in the sky singing,
Singing, "Everything's alright."
Jaehyun proposed the next week. You both went out to an amazing and fancy moonlit dinner where you both danced and decided to start this new journey together.
Then two days after the proposal, he relapsed the worst he has ever had. Johnny found him in your guys' apartment and immediately called you and everyone who he thought he could help.
It's now present day and you can only look at Jaehyun with guilt in your eyes.
The funeral was held in the flower fields you both planned to get married in. The day was cold and dark but he had never looked so happy in his final resting place. "I'm sorry I couldn't give you the happiness you craved." You kissed his cheek before the lid was finally closed.
Now the marble had been set in place and you were alone again.
"I'm not mad. I'm jus-just so...so sorry." You wept, reaching out for him.
"I read the letter and can only ask. Why?"
The only things he had left was a damn note with the words, 'Sorry, My Dear' signing off the page as if he deemed it enough. As if his love had a capacity limit.
"I'm sorry you-you thought I was going to leave you if you told me you were so un-unhappy with life." Your stuttering didn't come to a stop as you could only imagine tears streaming down his own cheeks wherever he was in the universe. The feeling of being ashamed sent you reeling down where you had to support yourself on your knees.
The silent sobs hurt your chest as you had this free falling feeling in your chest getting more deeper. It was as if someone was pounding your chest with a drum mallot. Your heart was breaking as you felt a hand on your shoulder. Yet, you knew no one was there.
"You promised me forever." Your voice was shaky as you brushed the stray pieces of grass away from the marble in the ground.
'Jaehyun. Found happiness in where ours couldn't reach.'
"And I promise, Jae. I will love you...forever."
"And I'm so proud of you for making it this far." You whispered, fingers tracing his name on the polished marble for what felt like the millionth time.
You laid on the ground next to his resting place and looked into the vast blue sky where you imagined him reaching down to you; his soft voice that he used to sing you to sleep with carrying you with him to where you both could live happily ever after. You lifted your hands up as the tears came down.
"You did well."
"I'll be home soon, Kyrie. I promise. Okay." Nero placed his cellphone back to his pocket just in time to see Nico's mysterious black - haired friend glancing at something outside the window of the trailer.
"See something you like?" The young Devil Hunter asked, his eyebrows knitted in confusion at the way the man stared.
"She has been at it for almost an hour and a half,..." The man answered with a low voice.
"I told ya, don't mind what she does." Nico, who was fixing the broken camera at the back of the trailer where her messy workplace was situated, answered almost harshly. She gave a quick look at her friend, saw him still staring outside the window, and rolled her eyes in defeat. Then, with a slightly irritated look at Nero, she added, "See? He just won't listen!"
"What are you looking at, anyway?" Curious, Nero finally gave a glance outside the window to see what the man was staring at. And lo and behold, he saw Mary sitting at one of the old benches outside not far from where the trailer was parked, doing something really,... unusual. "Oh, this is something new. What's she doing?"
"I saw her taking out a sketchbook from that bag of hers. And she started,... scribbling." The man answered.
"Huh. Really?" Nero scoffed and collapsed at the chair opposite V. "Well, that's something new. At least she's doing something really productive for a change."
"Meaning?" It was V's turn to ask a question.
Ever since he arrived at the location, V couldn't help but feel that there really was something very odd about what was happening. At first, he thought that Nico was only exaggerating things to make him come out of hiding, hysterically saying stuff like Demons appeared here and there, did this and that, and that she needs his knowledge to get to the bottom of this. Now, years of extensive studies on Demonology has taught V that the evil creatures would not appear and wreak havoc on the surface unless they are ordered to do so by a higher, sort of high - ranking, Demon. Or if they are seeking something of utmost value. Regardless, when V arrived, he proved Nico's words to be the truth. Demons did appear here and there and did this and that.
However, he can't say that his knowledge about Demonology is enough to solve this mind - boggling issue about these creatures appearing out of nowhere.
And Mary's odd behavior, and most probably his guilt of wrecking the damn camera, didn't help with the situation, at all.
"You see," Nero began. " ... Mary was - "
"Hey,... " Nico interrupted all of a sudden. The two men both looked at her and saw her pointing at something right outside the window next to her. " ... that's Morrison!"
Morrison? Thought V as the Artisan went out to greet the new visitor,...
It's unmistakable. Marsha heard the girl crying. And she has never even heard or seen the child do so.
The tall and perfectly poised woman abandoned her knitting and sped towards the living room to see her niece trying to patch up what looked like wounds on her palms with bandages.
And not just any wound,...
"Mary?!" Marsha called. The little girl almost jumped in fear as she heard her name being called and tried to hide her hands behind her back.
And this only made Marsha even more suspicious.
The woman sighed, strode closer towards the girl, bent down and grabbed her niece's arms. "You don't hide things from me, young lady!"
"But, Marsha, it's nothing!" The girl hopelessly argued, for she knew she was losing. Marsha finds out about everything, and that was a fact.
But, the older lady was having none of Mary's arguments. Marsha pulled her niece's arms from behind her back, held out her little hands, and saw, in utter fright and disgust, the lashes and blood painting the girl's little palms.
And the sight infuriated Marsha to the bone.
The next morning, Mary found Marsha knitting again on her little space in the huge library.
"I'm going to school." Mary announced with a loud voice over the Doris Day song that was being played on a vintage record atop one of the antique tables next to the shelves to her left. It was Marsha's favorite song.
And to what Mary just said, the older lady looked up from her handiwork and only raised an eyebrow. Raising her wire - rimmed glasses above her pointed nose, she said, "Oh, you're not going to school today, young lady."
Mary furrowed her eyebrows in disbelief. "Why?"
"Because, I said so!" The woman answered, her facial expression as stoic as ever. "Now, do come here and keep me company."
The little girl, although doubtful of Marsha's decision to not drive her to school that one particular morning, obeyed, putting her bag on the floor next to the iron table and sat across her aunt.
Looking at the many colorful yarns and several unfinished projects on the table, Mary asked, "How about tomorrow?"
"No." Marsha answered, her eyes never leaving her craft. Her answer remained the same for a week that Mary finally took up the courage to pick up one of the green yarns and a pair of darning needles from Marsha's knitting kit.
And this did not go unnoticed by Marsha, herself. Looking at Mary's freshly bandaged hands, and the needles she's holding, she nodded, and said, "Very well. I could teach you if you want. ONLY if you want."
Mary gave a sheepish smile and placed the yarn and the needles back to the basket before her. She, then, took out her sketchbook and some coloring materials from her bag and went on to finish that Venus art she's been working on for a week since Marsha forbade her to come to school.
It was not until another week when Mary finally found out that Marsha tried to press charges to the school and that awful teacher who gave her those wounds. Getting little to no justice after what happened, Marsha gave up and, instead, had Mary enrolled to a different school that was very far from that accursed place full of bullies, not to mention that devil Burns ( who only received penalties so light it's ridiculous, considering what he's done ) still on the loose and freely roaming about that campus.
It was also during that time when Mary almost memorized all of Doris Day's songs about love and heartbreak, and how not to question Marsha's decisions ever again.
" ... please, call me, Mary. I'm so worried about you - "
With furrowed eyebrows, Mary ended the voicemail from her aunt and made her way back to the trailer where she found, yet, another visitor sitting on a chair across that tall, black - haired man who stepped on Nico's camera.
Stuffing her cellphone back to her pocket, she saw the new visitor standing up and offering his hand to her.
"I'm Morrison." The man graciously introduced himself as he shook Mary's hands. "And you must be Mary Suermann! New accomplice of Nico?"
"Ah, yes, you might say that." Mary answered quietly as she took her hand from his, trying to ignore the fact that she could feel someone staring at her from behind her back. She carefully turned around without having to face V and stood next to the door, seeing that her companions were discussing something.
"So, let me get this straight," Morrison began as he settled back to his chair. " ... strange Demons began appearing randomly in some specific locations in this city? And not just any Demon, you say?"
"Yeah." Nero, who was sitting on the sofa next to V, answered. "Ahh, V, what did you say that Demon's name was, again?"
"Niddhogg." V answered, his low voice sending shivers down Mary's spine. She would never, ever, forget that voice, no. "But it wasn't particularly a Demon. It was a parasite that lives in an evil tree called the Qliphoth, which thrives on Human blood."
"And this Qliphoth tree," Morrison spoke. " ... are there any of those growing around here?"
"If there is,... then this city could very well be done for." V answered, successfully drawing all eyes on him in curiosity. "You see, this,... demonic tree,... grows quite,... let's just say,... rapidly. But, never mind that. The point is: there should be no Niddhogg if there is no,... Qliphoth,... to begin with."
"Niddhogg,... " Morrison mused as he rubbed his stubble. "I'm not gonna lie with you but, that is the first time I've heard of that thing. I don't even know what that looks like - "
"Exactly why Mary had to take pictures of it!" Nico added, emphasizing on the name like she was some kind of a criminal who committed such atrocious deeds. "Isn't that right, huh Mary?"
With a deep sigh, she took out her sketchbook from her bag, opened it, and handed it to Morrison, who gazed at it with such unmasked awe.
Not that the Demon illustrated in it was such a looker, no.
Tumblr media
"Magnificent!" Morrison exclaimed. "Are you the one who drew this, Mary?"
With a little sheepish smile, she nodded, and answered, "Yeah."
Morrison looked up from the sketchbook, held it up for the others to see, and asked, "Is this the one?"
And to this, V's eyes widened for a fraction of a second. It truly was an exact and very detailed drawing of the demonic parasite Niddhogg.
Who knew this girl had some kind of a hidden talent?
"Indeed." V answered, a bit of admiration getting past his monotonous voice, which Mary didn't miss.
Nico, who was leaning against her jukebox, took the sketchbook from Morrison's hands and stared at it with widened eyes full of wonder and disbelief. This made Mary smile a bit, and V, who was observing this entire scene, didn't miss the little gesture.
"Whoa. Ya really are an artist!" Nico exclaimed.
"Why?" Nero butted in. "Don't believe her?"
Even before Nico could fire up her own response, Morrison cleared his throat and said, "I want to take a picture of that illustration, if I may. I would show it to my associate in the Devil Hunting business and see if he could crack any sort of thing, anything, regarding this demonic parasite."
Seeing that Morrison's statement was directed at her, Mary nodded, giving her full consent. And as the man began taking photos of her Niddhogg art with his cellphone, Nero asked, "Where were you going, anyway?"
"To the office of the said associate in the Devil Hunting business."
"You mean, Dante?"
"Right you are." Morrison handed the sketchbook back to Mary and placed his cellphone back to his breast pocket. "I have some things to discuss with him. About a man who was found dead in his own house just this morning."
"What happened?" It was V's turn to ask a question.
"Reports say he died of cardiac arrest. Not that big of a deal, to be perfectly honest. Except that this man was linked to the disappearance of a few children in the last decade. There are no sufficient evidence to prove his crimes but, investigations are underway after they found some curious things in his home right after his body was taken."
"And those are?" V pried even further, and it was honestly making Mary a bit nervous.
"Some trinkets and clothes that belong to children. Apparently, they were hidden in a small compartment just behind his fridge. The authorities found the man's body, and some emptied bottles of water, right next to it."
"Maybe they belonged to his kids, or something?" Nero tried to explain.
"Yes, except that this man had no children, or relatives living close by. And the only people he knew were his colleagues in a school he was teaching at. Now, don't you worry about this thing. You have your own problems to deal with. But, just to be sure that my hunches are wrong, I will speak to Dante regarding this - "
"This man," All eyes, including V's, all turned to see Mary looking wide - eyed and horrified as she stood near the door. " ... who was he?"
"His name," Morrison began as he stood up and gathered his things on the table. " ... was Roger Burns. He was a teacher at - "
"I know." Mary heard Nico's little gasp at what she just revealed. "He was my teacher."
"Oh!" Morrison exclaimed and put a hand on Mary's shoulder. "I'm so sorry for the loss of your teacher - "
"Actually, I'm not in the least bit sorry. In fact, he - "
"He?" Morrison and the others waited as Mary held out her hands to show them something. But, then, something made her stop as she somewhat stared in disbelief at her own hands.
V, who stood just in time to see what Mary was looking at, saw nothing but her smooth - looking palms.
"Girl, what are you trying to say?" Nico, who was getting a bit impatient, questioned.
Mary looked up, smiled, and brought her hands down. "Nothing! Just,... nothing."
"Alright, then! I'll take my leave. I'll see you around." Morrison, who pretended to not be weirded out by what just happened, tipped his hat and finally left the trailer with more questions than answers.
"Are you alright?" Nero, who placed a hand on Mary's shoulder, kindly asked.
With a smile, she answered, "Never better."
However, V knew that was a lie. Mary was hiding something from them. It was very clear to him. But, what was it?
And why should Mary open up to them in the first place? They wouldn't believe her if she told them that the scar caused by her now dead teacher was all but mysteriously gone!
