#protective pepa about to fuck everyone up
Note
Now you see I want to hear about Pepa’s shovel talk to Agustin!
Protective Pepa 🌩️🌩️
Tumblr media
Pepa's cloud was flashing with lightning. The persistent, quiet rumble of thunder only added to the ominous atmosphere.
Agustín felt frozen to his seat. He threw a pleading glance at Bruno, but his friend only smirked and shrugged at him. Bruno was sitting on the kitchen counter, looking unbearably smug and clearly enjoying himself.
Pepa was anything but amused. She stood over Agustín, arms crossed and expression murderous.
"Let's get one thing clear," she said quietly, cold as ice. "If you hurt my sister even once, I'll rip you apart."
A chill crept into the room and Agustín shivered. Pepa smirked. That somehow made it even worse.
"Noted," Agustín said, gulping. He gave a nervous, tense chuckle and glanced at Bruno again. "You, uh...You gonna give me a shovel talk too, Bruno?" he asked, trying to break the tension and failing miserably.
"Nope." Bruno popped the 'P' and reached for a jar of chocolate spread, happily eating it with a spoon. "I think Pepi has it covered. Besides, if you hurt Juli I'll just find a bad prophecy for you. Or trip you into a beehive. You know the drill."
That didn't help at all. It also sounded suspiciously like a cheerful shovel talk.
"Uh..." Agustín didn't know how to proceed. Should he beg for Pepa's mercy? Swear to love and honour Julieta always? Run for his life?
Pepa's hand clapped down on his shoulder, her nails digging into his skin. She leaned down, smiling. Lightning flashed in her cloud again.
"This is the one and only warning you get," she said and the thunder gained volume. "I don't like repeating myself. Julieta's my big sister. Brunito and I love her very much. Everyone's scared of Bruno but, y'see, that's pretty dumb. I'm the one you should be scared of."
Agustín didn't doubt that for a moment.

Oneshot: TV Episodes from another point of view
Some scenes from EncantoTV from Bruno's POV, because sometimes i get the urge for platonic angst/fluff and I can't be arsed doing all the buildup again so.
feat. swear words, local man full of love and internal screaming.
Nobody had warned Bruno about teenagers. Isabela had been twelve the last time he'd been around. His little nieces had grown up since. Grown up, God help him! He hadn't known what to say to them on his return, but they surprised him with a bottle of wine and a tearful private reunion, where they drunkenly caught him up on all the family drama. They were no longer just kids to be raised now, but young adults eager to befriend him, happy to see him return home. It made less difference to them: they were grown. It was the kids that were the problem.
Antonio was a dream. He was just like Mirabel at that age, although terribly shy around strangers; once Antonio realised that Bruno would answer questions, listen to animal facts and let him play in mud he was instantly sold on this 'new uncle' idea. But Mirabel? Lord have mercy, Camilo? Bruno thought he was doing okay until Julieta and Pepa left him in charge.
Boy, he was not doing okay at being the adult in the house.
We're the Madrigals. We're the family that protects the Encanto.
The person in charge is you. So what plan did you come up with?
I don't wanna hear another word.
Don't talk to Mirabel like that.
Bruno had been playing the last tense conversation he'd had with the kids in his head over and over again, knots of guilt and fear coiling in his stomach. Tomorrow he'd have to man up and talk to people in the village, make plans, deliver news of another catastrophic vision. It made him want to puke. But right now all he could do was fix the mess he'd made with Mirabel and Camilo, who had definitely lost what misguided respect for him they might have developed.
Don't talk to Mirabel like that.
Oh, Camilo could be cruel, that was fine. Bruno knew enough about teens to handle that part. But it was the righteousness in those his words that got him the most. Díos mio, why had he talked to Mirabel like that? She'd only been trying to help, and putting his foot down had made the light fade from her eyes in a way he hoped to never see again. Mirabel had gone completely empty, and smiled a placating nothing-smile at him, and Camilo had looked at him with so much hate. Antonio had gotten teary-eyed and asked them not to fight. Lord, Bruno had wanted to do the same. He didn't want to fight. He didn't want to fight at all.
And here he was, an idiot who had not only taken control of the situation too late, but successfully hurt everyone's feelings in the process! Round of applause! Standing ovation for Bruno, he's fucked up personally and practically! Bruno ran his hands through his hair and groaned.
Mirabel. He needed to make things right with her; if he did, then Camilo would, at the very least, be vindicated. Why had Bruno shut her down? She would've listened to him if he'd just asked her to. Mirabel, the little girl who'd brought him home and stood up for him when nobody else would! And what had he done? Grounded her. Mirabel had once told Bruno he was the best friend she'd ever had. He'd cried.
And now look at him! He made himself walk up the stairs and approach her bedroom door.
Tío Bruno. Tío Bruno. He was Tío Bruno, wise and funny and warm. He was not a flaming hot dumpster fire tearing his own brain to shreds. He was Tío Bruno, the best friend Mirabel had ever had (don't cry), and he was going to talk to his niece and gently tell her he was sorry and it would be fine.
"Mirabel?" he called, knocking on her door. "C-can we talk?"
A stutter in his voice. He listened; silence, but no snoring.
"It's okay if you're upset," he continued, "I understand if you don’t want to talk... I mean, I can - I’ll just talk. You don’t have to talk. I wanted to say sorry. Um. Can I come in?"
The silence was starting to make him wonder if she was in there at all. She could've gone to the bathroom. He hadn't heard that. Or...
"Mirabel," he repeated, with a sense of rising urgency.
No response.
He creaked the door open.
Dark room. The curtains fluttered in the moonlight, with Mirabel's large window open, a newly-formed staircase swirling away from the open window and down to the ground.
Bruno stared for a long moment.
Then he said, tiredly, "Casita, really?"
The door creaked apologetically shut. Bruno stood there for a moment, mind empty, and then - for lack of any other ideas - smacked his head against the door and hoped for a concussion.
"Ow," he said. He didn't get one.
He lingered there for a moment. Then he peeled himself off the door, groaned, and began to sprint down the hall.
*
There were a couple of things Bruno hated about being sick. The year 1969 was one of them.
It was an ordeal. His head was pounding, his nose was running, and every time he sneezed he learned something different about 1969. He decided quickly that it was the worst year ever invented. Sometimes he'd be lucky enough to glimpse something else, like a bit of the nineties. Not that any of the visions were pleasant; it was confusing and disorienting and made his sinuses hurt. But 1969 stung especially badly. Why then? Nothing interesting happened in 1968, as far as he knew. No election. Another war, but there was always another war. And he hated the boy bands.
Bruno pinched his nose and squinted, holding off another barrage of sneezing, and cursed God for inventing snow. Snow made his magic go haywire, his magic made his body weaker, and his bad luck ensured he'd come down with something within the week.
Of course, one of the other things he hated about being sick, which was less fun to think about, was dying alone.
The thought was irrational, but ten years of habit kept it fresh in his mind. Too many times curled up behind the walls, desperately trying to muffle his coughing, aching and nauseous. It swirled around his brain like an unwelcome guest. Nobody knows you're here. Nobody will find you. If you get worse, nobody will help you. If you die they won’t even find your body.
Of course, with Julieta's magic not working on him, the possibility was a lot fresher on his mind than it would be otherwise. It was a stupid thought. He had a cold, for goodness' sake, not the plague. And yet...
There weren't even any rats. Where were they? He hadn't even seen any that morning. They'd abandoned him too, then, along with his health and Julieta's magic. That was a problem that would need solving... at some point.
Bruno sneezed. Painful green light flashed behind his eyes.
Oh, please, say to me you'll let me be your man, and please, say to me you'll let me hold your hand, you'll let me hold your hand, I want to hold your hand...
"Shut up," he groaned, sinking his head into his hands.
He stayed there for a long moment, nursing his headache, trying to dispel the dread that was rattling around his skull. He forgot, for a moment, that his room was no longer a secret and he was no longer a stranger to the children; he nearly jumped out of his skin when Mirabel knocked on the door, then nudged it open with her hip, a tray of things probably sent by a fussing Julieta in her hands. He straightened himself up as quickly as possible, rubbing his nose and trying to look normal.
"Mirabel," he said, "Everything okay?"
“Yeah!” she said brightly. “Just checking in!”
Although it was clear from the over-cheerful way she was carrying herself that everything wasn't okay. There was something tugging at her eyes as she spoke, as though she were checking for some invisible enemy. It probably wasn't one of those; it was probably an emotional problem. Mirabel was fifteen and didn't have many enemies. Bruno tried to ask her about it and instead had to stifle another sneeze, which showed him the image or a long-haired man with large, flared pants and immediately made him forget what he was going to say.
He saw Mirabel wince and suddenly worried he was making her uncomfortable. She probably had better ways to spend her time than porting things to her disgusting invalid uncle. "Did your mom put you up to this?" he asked.
"No!" She laughed nervously, exaggerating her smile too much to be convincing. "I just thought we should hang out! And do... healthy... activities."
He cocked an eyebrow. Mirabel, at this level of hyperactivity, usually didn't last more than a few hours without cracking and admitting what was wrong.
She deflated. "Okay, well, I'm kind of avoiding the village at the moment."
Now that was a feeling Bruno knew well. He wished - not for the first time - that he'd done more to protect her reputation, that she had turned out as well-liked as her sisters. This room was often Mirabel's shelter when she felt alone, the same way it had once been Bruno’s; he wouldn't kick her out if that was what she needed, even if he could use a nap. "Well, consider me at your service," he told her, although the house slapped him in the knees when he tried to accompany her out.
He stretched his arms, sniffed, and grabbed his copy of Ficciones from the shelf. He fretted for a moment with the cover, wondering if Mirabel was being bullied, if Abuela had been talking to her again, if she'd had another dream about the fall. Should he have pushed? No, no, she needed her privacy. --But should he have pushed?
She sat at his table, now cluttered beyond recognition, obscuring the crayon plate drawing, her tongue stuck out in concentration. Mirabel's drawings were good. Too ambitious to be realistic, of course. Too much focus on the drawing, not the design. But she was excellent for her age, her lack of aptitude overcome by studious practice and hard work. Bruno read his book and scowled at the way his nose was running and idly munched empanadas in the hopes one of them would cure him.
(He didn't notice that the dread had eased, that his thoughts had drifted elsewhere; but then, he rarely noticed, in the moment, that it had happened, not until it was over.)
*
When things went a little wrong, Bruno found it hard to keep it together. But when things completely fell apart, when everything was ruined and unimaginably bad, when disaster stuck harder than anyone could have thought? Bruno found himself extraordinarily able to keep it together. He found that if he needed to, he could keep his head straight through a whole day of hell on earth and only start screaming once it was over.
When they found the bleeding figure of Professor Dunnock, his hands weakly holding a terrible sword wound, Bruno held his head straight and told Luisa what to do. The ease with which he could take charge comforted him. He could be brave, as long as Mirabel and Luisa were there; his two youngest nieces, who needed him more than he needed to break down.
Mirabel said, "Just ten minutes. I'll be right behind you. Please."
Bruno barely had time to worry about Mirabel's safety. The white man, if he could be saved, would soon cross the point of no return. "Ten minutes," said Bruno, and then shoved his fear into a mental locker to pull out later.
Julieta didn't often treat injuries this dire. When she saw Dunnock her attention was immediately on him. She had the instincts of a medic, always had; perhaps in another life she’d have been a doctor, a nurse, somebody who helped people using just her knowledge. Perhaps it was for the best she had her Gift, at least for her current patient.
They set him on the kitchen table, having no better operating table. Julieta spoke softly to the man, took a spoonful of milk, and tilted his head back. "Here, you'll feel better," she whispered, "Just drink a little, cariño, just a spoonful, for me..."
Every sip of liquid closed the wound a little more, and as the injury went from dire to bad to merely painful, a sheen of sweat appeared on Julieta's face; her magic, usually so plentiful, was finally running low, draining her energy. Eventually she reached a point where her patient was recovering, even if he was still unconscious. It was only then she stopped, gently arranged his sleeping form to be more comfortable, and took his hand.
"Thank you for being kind to my daughter," she whispered to the sleeping professor. Then she turned to Luisa, opening her arms for a hug, and held her; Luisa carried her to the sofa, and they fell asleep there, both exhausted from the day's antics.
Not Bruno, though. Bruno was running on overdrive. It had been twenty-five minutes and Mirabel wasn't there.
Bruno didn't remember the sword that killed his father, of course. But he'd never forgotten that violence had taken everything from his mother, that Pedro Madrigal had died helpless at swordpoint. Touching the handle of Simón's sword had made him want to vomit. He hadn't realised how deeply the idea of losing anyone else to the blade frightened him until he saw Dunnock shaking and bleeding in that tent, and now, with Mirabel absent, he had to know what would happen.
He didn't bother with his room; stress had brought the vision itching at the edge of his awareness. He collapsed against the wall and turned his eyes towards the future.
— Mirabel, running through the trees, hiding, peeking. She stares at someone —
A blade on her hip — she holds it and steps forward —
a figure with a sword — they stare at each other —
the figure swings — Mirabel defends —
— blood in the mountain spring — Mirabel's blade, clattering to the ground —
— Mirabel —
No! No! Show him anything, anything, anything except the dead body of Mirabel. He couldn't look.
Bruno cut the vision off with a gasp. The dust swirling around him settled. He panted, slumping, letting the wall catch him.
She'd lied. She wasn't looking for Antonio. Of course she wasn't. She'd taken that stupid machete and gone looking for Dunnock's attacker. Gone after the murderer.
And she would find him. And she would fight him.
She'd stopped trusting him the moment he ran his mouth and insulted her. Mirabel, you're not like us. But what could he say about that now? It was sickeningly true. Mortal, defenceless Mirabel. She had no magic between herself and her attacker. No Gift to protect her. All she had to save her now was Bruno.
A burst of adrenaline made him push himself off the wall and start running. Sprint out of the house, find a horse, find the spring. If he hadn't seen her body then she could still be unhurt. Still be stopped. Still be saved.
He remembered when Mirabel was born. She’d had a difficult birth. (Fifteen years ago; had it really been that long?) She'd been born early, all red and breathing funny, and an exhausted Julieta fell into a troubled sleep; Agustín had handed Mirabel to Bruno for a moment, just one, and Bruno had looked down at her, and Agustín had panted, "Will she be alright?"
Bruno looked down at the baby and carefully looked for her future. He saw it there, just a glimpse, a memory of something not yet passed. Mirabel, a child, and Bruno, her uncle, and a memory of love, of fondness, of friendship. Yes, Mirabel would live. Mirabel would live and Bruno sensed that they would be friends someday.
Bruno nodded, smiling so hard his face hurt, and Agustín had thrown his arms around him and sobbed, and they had hugged in exhausted joy with the baby cradled between them. It had been the best vision Bruno had ever had.
(Later it would turn out the blood in the vision was from her hand, not anywhere else. When he saw her cradling it, gasping and pale and blissfully alive, he realised he'd come too late after all; that if the blade had swung a few inches closer, then--
She looked scared and tired, her hand held painfully to her chest. Her bravery had almost taken everything from him. He kissed her forehead, aching. I love you, he thought, I love you, I love you, never do that to me, never do that to anyone, please, never, never again. "You dumb kid," he said, his heart breaking, "You're killin' me.")

"I'm not letting that false prophet in here!" The priest was arguing with two very protective and now very angry sister's when Alma approached.
"You will let my brother in here for his nieces christening or I swear I will bring down a storm you've only heard about in the book of Revelations!" Pepa almost shouted and Alma froze slightly as she looked just past her daughters and saw her son and son-in-laws standing there, two bundles as well. One in Agustin's arms and one in Felix's.
"Pepa it's okay-"
"No it fucking isn't okay!" Oh...oh shit Julieta was cursing?!
"This whiny old priest is going to stand here and blame you for something you never asked for nor wanted! And to go so far as to try and ban you from church for your sobrinas christening?!" Julieta snarled and while Pepa might be the one with sharp teeth the antlers on Julietas head were looking very sharp all of a sudden.
"Father Flores! You are denying someone entrance to the church?! For a christening at that? And here I thought your job was to welcome all and god's love was for everyone!" Alma called out from the crowd that had formed during the argument and the thunder.
Seeing her children look her way she didn't look at them and the rest of the crowd took up the outrage and called out their protests to the priest for his actions and words.
She...she didn't know why she spoke out like that. But...Bruno deserved to be there for the christening of his nieces and Alma...her heart warned and hurt.
Nieces for Bruno. That meant that Pepa and Julieta had daughters. She...she had two nietas and she hadn't known their gender. Didn't know who was older. Didn't even know their names...
Maybe she could slip into the christening crowd and catch a glimpse of the babies. Just to see if they're human she told herself.
IF THEY DON’T LEAVE THAT POOR MAN ALONE AND JUST LET HIM SEE HIS NIECES GETTING BAPTIZED 💀💀
They treating this mf like he’s Judas himself or something, like CHILL, he don’t even give out visions like that, it’s not his fault. He’s not trying to give y’all false prophecies, I promise 🤨 bet that priest is all pissy cause he’s going bald
I’m kinda of glad Alma at least tried. But. She fr needs to stop convincing herself that she isn’t really curious. Like please get yo act together Ms. Ma’am 💀💀

Headcanons/Deleted Scenes for Waiting To Get Rid of a Miracle
Dolores & César were originally gonna move to New York for a (non soccer) job he was taking bc I’m American and I know my country better than England … but I also know my countries history better as well…. And I thought about it for a second… and a Black girl intentionally moving to the US in 1950 (where her marriage wouldn’t even be legal in most states and Pepa & Felix sure as shit wouldn’t ever come visit for the same reasons) is not a good idea. So yeah, that’s why they went to London so he could play soccer instead.
The bath scene between Pepa and Diego was gonna be a lot different. She originally was going to close her eyes, imagine Félix and get it over with when he wanted sex, starting to cry midway through and he just doesn’t care or notice. And that would have been the sexual assault moment instead of the drunken more typical sexual assault scene.
Diego was gonna be inappropriate with Dolores. Like not explicit or obvious or obnoxious, but JUST enough that Dolores is uncomfortable and he’s just talking to her and touching her and just treating her in no way like how a step father shouldn’t do to their step daughter, but then that would have been a ‘fuck that, don’t care, get tf out’ moment for Pepa. Her kids being scared or upset bc of what’s happening to her is one thing but one of her kids being hurt and someone being inappropriate with her daughter directly? 1000% nogo.
Félix was gonna take Pepa to the ballet when Diego bails on her after he has to go to work. He also got a ticket, she was going to just go by herself, they meet up. It would have been sweet and genuine and sweet and led to the scene of Félix and Pepa when she takes the trash out.
Bruno was originally going to somehow but not really but somewhat know that Pepa wasn’t part of that world. But me and my beta both decided that it would be better if he was just like ‘oh you’re from an alternate universe where everyone has magic powers and wanna get back there? Cool.’
Pepa was originally gonna go with Diego after the big fight but I thought y’all deserved one chapter of just good things
Pepa originally wasn’t going to have any physical marks or scars left over from Diego’s abuse in the ‘real world’. But I liked the idea of her being bruised and then not disappearing a LOT and Félix having even more proof that SOMETHING happened to her.
Félix wasn’t originally gonna die, but I had to have SOMETHING big enough to trigger her going ‘I’m sorry, Pedro, I can’t do this’. Bc that’s what she essentially did, trade Pedro’s life for her old one. Then for a bit it was going to be Camilo who died but Félix dying didn’t necessarily hit harder, but all the aftermath would have been a lot different bc, obviously , she wouldn’t have been able to reunite with Camilo the way she would have with Félix and I liked the husband/wife aspect more than the mother/son
Up until basicslly I posted it, she was supposed to immediately go back after she slept at the River. For the LONGEST time, up until the chapter was posted, Pedro was going to meet her at the river and talk to her there. But I couldn’t figure out how to get him there without it sounding convoluted so that’s why they had their final talk in the bedroom where he basically gives her ‘permission’ to kill him off and why the River didn’t work, she had to have that final talk with Pedro.
Pedro would have known SOMETHING was going to happen at the river with Pepa, bc you can’t go to the place of your death and you’re a few minutes away from not existing anymore and not feel SOMETHING. But either way he’s perfectly 100% okay with it, bc he knows somehow, this is going to make his family okay again, this is going to protect his child, and that was all he wanted
Ricarda married a super sweet amazing fantastic guy in the Encanto who helps her heal from Diego’s abuse. She and her son son are happy and Tomas is Antonio’s bestie.
Ceśar eventually gets together with a leggy dance studio owning milf, Aurora gets a hot young soccer stud and they move to England together (although Aurora would be lying if she didn’t think that man with the strange red headed wife was fucking HOT, and he was on her mind for a while).
Sofía was made co-owner of the new salon that Dona Lopez opens, which became one of the best in Bogata. They name it ‘Pepa’s’ after the mysterious benefactor who gave them the start up
Diego never married again. People literally flinch and can’t stand to look at his scars that he doesn’t even really take care of so they grow even fouler and pus riddled for a while from the infection. He still has nightmares about the red headed woman who the police never found. He cannot forget what he did to her. Several miserable years of being alone later he gets super drunk one night, stumbles out of the bar where he’s just known as the old angry drunk with no friends and no job, gets hit by a bus and dies.
Pepa still has nightmares too. Sometimes she’ll wake up in the dark thinking he’s standing over her, and she’ll start crying and shaking. Or she’ll imagine she’s holding Felix’s dead body in her arms. Félix holds her tight until she’s okay again, before he, without a word, goes and turns on the shower for her, occasionally getting in with her not for sexitiems, but just to hold her and let her know she’s safe, that their world is real, that Diego can’t ever touch her again. Félix knows not to kiss or touch her face on those days. She never tells anyone else what happened to her and her family respects her enough not to ask. She’s terrified that Diego will somehow find the Encanto, even knowing it would be nearly impossible. One day, as if by magic, there’s a newspaper clipping that appears one day out of the blue. It’s a small little article about a drunken man who wondered in front of a car and died coming out of the bar along with a mugshot of a heavily scarred disheveled Diego
She rolls her eyes at something Félix says that night and doesn’t feel fear for the first time in years.

So I honestly wanted to share my thoughts on one opinion the Encanto fandom seems to have that I personally disagree with. It’s sort of a popular thing most of the fandom has said. Most of the time it’s just an over exaggerated joke that I don’t mind, but others are genuinely serious, and while I can SEE where they’re coming from, I wanted to share why I disagree.
So it has to do with Mirabel and the family. If you’ve been in the fandom long, you’ll know that a lot of people like to joke about how the family pushes her to the side. How she sleeps in the nursery, how she wasn’t included in the family picture, and how she feels out shunned and ostracized. Again, some people will joke, but I’ve seen so many people go “Fuck the family, they treated her horribly, Mirabel should have been a villain”- all that jazz, and I just......disagree.
The thing about Encanto is it’s not necessarily the FAMILY that treats Mirabel herself horribly and excludes her, it’s ALMA. Alma is the main problem to everything going on with the family in the movie, and the movie KNOWS this. It’s about how Alma put pressure on every single family member, making them feel like all they were are their gifts and that they have to be perfect and earn the miracle they were given. Since Mirabel didn’t HAVE a gift, that’s what made Alma constantly push Mirabel to the side, and tell her to let the family shine and not get in the way. While she saw everyone as just their gifts, she saw Mirabel as someone who wasn’t necessarily part of the family, and again, the film KNOWS this. I’m not going to act like the rest of the family was perfect, but Alma is the center. She’s the leader, the person who runs everything, the person who PAINTS the Madrigals as a perfect family who will always come to aid. Because of that, that’s what CAUSED Mirabel to feel ostracized from the family. Alma made her believe that since she had no gift, she had no purpose, she didn’t contribute anything. While Mirabel herself ACCEPTED she didn’t have a gift during the events of the movie, she wanted to have a moment to shine in her OWN way, to prove that she belonged and that she could do something of worthy. I bring all of this up for a reason, and I first want to say that I’m NOT trying to villainize Alma, I know she’s not the villain, I just say all of this because it was HER who was excluding and mistreating Mirabel from the family, not the family themselves.
But if you disagree with me, let me deep dive more. Mirabel’s parents love her very much. They think she has nothing to prove, and that she’s perfect the way she is, especially her mother, and while she may not fully understand Mirabel from time to time, she’s still there to help. Then you have her sisters. Luisa is a big softie, she loves Mirabel and wants to protect her as well as the rest of the family. You can tell her and Mirabel are very close. Then there’s Isabela, who gets on Mirabel’s nerves. The two have a complex relationship, as Isabela sees Mirabel as someone who constantly gets in the way of what she’s trying to do. Isabela was mean yes, but even SHE doesn’t exclude her from the family. Then you have Antonio, who loves Mirabel and is one of the closest to her. He spent 5 years in the nursery with her, and has grown to love her for who she is. As for the rest of Pepa’s side of the family, they weren’t given enough time to interact with Mirabel so we don’t know the general dynamics, and while Pepa and/or Félix was confused or razzled by her actions from time to time, that doesn’t mean they don’t care about her.
Now listen, I’m not going to act like the family was perfect BY FAR. They could have treated Mirabel better, but some people act like they purposely hated her or didn’t like her because she didn’t have a gift and that’s not true. The family accepted that she didn’t have a gift, it’s not like Mirabel was depressed that she was in the nursery, or didn’t have a door, or even a GIFT. It was confirmed that she has accepted she didn’t have one, but she just wanted to shine like her family did. While I can totally understand some people thinking that the family mistreated Mirabel, it just pisses me off that some people portray them as characters who wanted to push Mirabel out of the way. 💀

Since I've seen many comments about the "After you save the miracle, come visit" moment, and recently crossed with one of those again, now I can't stop thinking about it too, because… am I the only one who felt really "what the actual fuck, Bruno" when he says that? Like, the hell are you saying, man.
This thing intrigues me, because he makes this face when Mira says she's gonna bring him home:
Tumblr media
And that's not the face of someone willing to keep away from his love ones. That's the face of someone who's almost begging to come back.
Ten years are a very long time. Thinking about it, I wonder about the different phases he came through during those years and how his feelings developed. He hid in a hurry, out of desperation. He thought it was the better option, to keep Mira safe but also to protect the whole family. He sacrificed himself. But he was still there, so he saw what his absence triggered. He saw how Alma's stress, fear and paranoia rocketed, which translated into more pressure for the whole family. He saw Pepa cracking and losing even more stability. He saw Julieta focusing so much on Mirabel, trying to ease her baby's suffering, that she neglected totally Isabela and Luisa, who had to endure their suffering on their own. The family went to hell after he left, though he thought he was helping them by leaving. And I wonder if at some point, over all those days of isolation… did he start thinking "omg I made a mistake"?
Perhaps, in the first weeks or even the first months, he thought "if I come out now, I still could fix this". Maybe he thought about it every day, getting frightened by the simple idea of showing up again after such a disaster. So time passed and months turned into years, and then the question would be: if I come out now… could I still fix this? I'm sure he was perfectly aware of the pain he had caused, that's why he tried so hard to apologize at the end of the movie. But while he was alone inside the walls, that pain probably looked irreparable. Maybe he thought if they discovered he was there (he had been there all the time) and had left them in the dark for years, seeing them suffering without raising a finger, no one would ever forgive him. Maybe he thought he didn't even deserve to be forgiven. His hypothetical confrontation with the family wasn't just a confrontation with the family; it was also a "Dorian Gray facing his painting" situation.
I always see Bruno being portrayed as a poor, helpless victim of other's perception about him, feeling miserable for it, or as a resentful man towards Alma and the rest of the family for not supporting him enough in the past. But I never see anyone exploring this feeling of guilt about the mistakes he actually made, the resentment towards himself for the help he didn't offer or the regret towards his wrong decisions. Not the made up shit other people put over him, but the shit he really did. And I find all of that far more powerful.
For me, the "come visit" moment is not cute or endearing at all. It's the lowest moment of a man so overwhelmed by his own guilt and shame that feels unable to face the consequences of his decisions (consequences he's been avoiding for ten years, btw). He's there waiting for someone to tell him "I'll bring you home", because he's so trapped in his own super plan to protect the family that he has no idea of how to break free of it. He needs to be told "you're still welcome and this is your place", and it has to be his 15 years old niece the one who saves him, instead of the opposite. What a shame, Bruno (I'm joking, don't worry, I honestly pity him).
And yeah, he finally manages to gather enough courage to face Alma at the river to defend Mirabel, and don't take me wrong, I'm not saying that moment isn't dramatic and moving and important for his own character arch. But it's also funny for me how he represents then perfectly (just like everyone of us who suffer anxiety) the meme of "yeah, you'll be glad to know it took me five minutes to accomplish the task I'd been avoiding for ten years", lol.

Hi, besties! I’m back to talk about Encanto and Encanto only because I’m tired of non-latinos/Hispanics posting their bland ass opinions on a movie they definitely did not care to understand <3 ( warning: spoilers, I guess)
1. "Abuela was evil and didn't deserve to be forgiven that quickly"
Amix, did we even watch the same movie? Because to me Alma wasn't forgiven on the spot. Not one of them said "sure abuelita don’t worry we still love you." And the thing is, in a toxic Hispanic household, you won't get an apology so easily. Alma admitted how she fucked up and that is a huge step for them as a family to start figuring out their own shit and how each member contributed to the cracks appearing. The moment where they all come together to rebuild their Casita is a perfect depiction of that; it takes days, months and years to pick up the pieces and put it back together, and maybe just then they can start healing.
Alma deserved to realise how much pain she was putting her family through and be given the opportunity to try to be better, and saying otherwise is interpreting the movie to fit your ideal ending. And the thing is, Alma had no malicious intent in her words and actions, once you know what happened to her, you notice everything she does and says is tightly tied to her traumatic past: bestie watched her town be invaded, her husband brutally murdered while holding her newborn triplets, became the leader of a whole ass new town the next morning and was probably never given the time to mourn.
And before any of y’all Abuela-haters come to me to say trauma is never an excuse: yeah, abuse can’t be justified under any circumstances, however, if you want to criticise Abuela’s character, you have to look where she is coming from. It’s not a matter of it’s fair or not, because in real life these situations most of the time are never fair to anyone involved.
2. "Omg, everyone was so mean towards Mirabel and Bruno, how could anyone allow that? That's so fucked up!"
Oh, wow, the privilege of watching a movie about intergenerational trauma and not noticing the trauma. Qusiese, chicaaa, pero no pudiese. LMAO I was going to go into how Alma, Isabela and Pepa treated Mirabel, but I feel that’ll be better left alone in their separate posts because it’s a lot. Instead I’m just going to explain why I think “We don’t talk about Bruno” was an attempt to protect Bruno from people shit-talking him even more.
It’s undeniable that the Madrigal family is obviously the equivalent of royalty in Encanto. They are a public figure and Abuela specifically works her ass off trying to maintain that image (yeah, by manipulating her family into being of service but). Because if shit went down, then she’d find herself having to flee her home again. Big yikes, nope.
Now, imagine, your youngest and only son who can see the future comes up with a prophecy about your home/family so bad that he runs away. Bruno may have done nothing wrong, but his disappearance brought a bad image to the family. So what did the family had to do to save face? Not talk about him. And more than it being a “fuck Bruno, all my homies hate Bruno” move, it is more of a “Hey, this is a sensitive topic and we as a family have decided to speak no more of it, thanks!” move, not only to cope with his absence, but to prevent townsfolk from also talking about him. It might not have been the nicest thing to do, but so was Bruno’s leaving without saying more. Please, stop infantilizing grown-ass men.
3. “The magic doesn’t make any sense”
HI, Welcome to Magical Realism! It does not need to make sense to you. It is what it is in its own world and its inhabitants accept it. If y’all can watch Marvel movies and eat that shit up as if it were the most complex worldbuilding in existence, then you can absolutely believe that miracles are a commonly accepted occurrence in this world.
What creates a miracle is not really important, because throughout the movie we’re not trying to make a new one, but to preserve the one that already Alma manifested. What determines what kind of gift each character gets is not important, or at the very least I’d think you’d be able to assume that it’s something related to their personality or a skill they excelled at. Being utterly rude, if you whine over how the magic doesn’t make any sense, I feel like you’re the type of person who wants to have every single thing explained in detail because you’re simply too lazy to use your imagination.
I find the magic in this movie very adequate to its context; in Latin-America, when you talk about a miracle it’s something of religious origin that cannot be explained by science (as opposed to English, in which it can be simply boiled down to something extraordinary). Additionally, “Milagro” is also used to refer to religious charms that can be carried on your person for protection and good luck. So, the candle serves as both types of miracles and I find that so damn cool.
Now, I’m not blindly in love with this movie to deny the fact that it definitely should’ve explored its world and characters so much more. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely one of the best movies the mouse has made in years and I do hope it gets some kind of show or whatever; it’s got the perfect elements for it.
P.d: do yourself a huge favour and listen to the Spanish version of Dos Oruguitas <3<3<3

Married In A Hurricane (Bonus)
Tumblr media
Camilo Madrigal x Reader
All characters written in this story is 18+.
Since it was highly requested, here is the bonus chapter of Married In A Hurricane.
No angst, just fluff to heal the broken heart.
Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 5(finale). Bonus.
xxxx
(Reader’s POV)
“Milo she’s going to flip out and punch me if she see’s me. Are you sure I should come with you?”I peeked around the corner to see the Santo’s residence. There I saw Maria bossing around the gardeners which made their jobs so much harder than it needed to be.
“Yes it’s okay, plus I’d love mi vida to come with me. And don’t worry, I’ll protect you if she does anything to you”He gives me a flirty smile that made my heart melt. He needs to stop or else I’ll end up as a puddle by the end of the day.
It was a few days after Camilo had professed his love towards a door, but since ended up being there I guess towards me. With that being said, the past few days have been crazy. My initial plan was to leave Encanto but things have changed since then. I am now staying for good.
It started off with telling the Madrigals about the start of Milo’s and I’s relationship. Tia Julieta and Tio Agustìn were happy to hear the news and that resulted to Camilo getting showered with aprenas. The cousins all knew about our relationship given that Dolores had heard everything go down and was relaying the information as it was happening. As for Tia Pepa and Tio Felix…lets just say the Encanto’s skies were filled with double rainbows the whole day.
The last conversation we had that day was with Abuela. We were hesitant at first since we would have to tell her that the engagement with the Santo’s would have to break off. However, after we had explained everything from my feelings and Camilo’s realization about his feelings, Abuela was quiet before giving both of us a hug.
“I am so happy to hear that”Our shoulders immediately felt lighter.
That brings us to today. The last thing we needed to do was actually break the engagement. Camilo was going to he the one to do it, I just came along for moral support. (In reality, I being cowardly. I wanted to stay home but Camilo wanted otherwise)
“Lets make this quick and easy so that we can go on our picnic date”He takes a hold of my hand followed by a gentle kiss on the cheek. My face went red as fuck.
“M-Milo!”He laughs.
“Oh mi vida you are so cute, I’m so lucky”I blushed even deeper. This boy most definitely knew how to get me, and to be honest I was loving every second of it.
Camilo shoots me another smile before walking towards Maria who opened her arms thinking that Camilo was going in for a hug. He however stops walking before he got too close. I was far enough that Maria couldn’t spot me right off the bat, but close enough to see what was happening.
I could see her progressively get angrier until it got to a point where she just looked crazy. She threw a temper tantrum for a solid 10-15 minutes before throwing the ring she wore at Camilo(who caught it before it could fall on the ground). She stomps off right after. Camilo lets out a deep sigh, I began to laugh.
“Oh dang, maybe you should have just married her!”I teased. He shook his head and stared at the ring in the palm of his hand. After a few seconds he throws it behind him, past his shoulder.
“Opps”
“Camilo! Why would you do that?!That was probably so expensive”My eyes flew towards the direction he threw it in. He shrugs.
“Yours will be better”
“I-what”
“Nothing mi pretty vida”He smirks, gives me a wink, then walks off.
Did he just..Okay yea if my face wasn’t red already. It was most definitely the same shade as a fully ripen tomato.
“CAMILO!”
xxxx
The end.
Thank you for reading this story guys! I appreciate everyone who commented and hearted the parts.
If you were wanting more angst I have another on going story being written. Called 365 Days.
Its gonna be a banger sad story. So if you have the time check it out!
Thank you for all who worried enough about me over working myself! I will definitely keep that in mind :) <3

Every moment in Encanto that broke my goddamn heart
Mirabel being outted as giftless to the village kids
Mirabel's face when Abuela asked her to not help out during prep for Antonio's gift ceremony
The way 5yo Mirabel turned around and held her hands together in fear and confusion when her door dissolved
Mirabel not being included in the family photo during Antonio's gift ceremony
Luisa singing "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service"
Dolores singing the nicest words about Bruno in the same song she recounts how he told her the love of her life would always be out of reach. Can you imagine hearing that prophecy yet you still think so sympathetically of that person as everyone around you shit talks them?
Isabela and Dolores singing "I'm fine, I'm fine" during WdtaB
When Mirabel looked through the crack in the wall in Bruno's hiding spot and it showed the kitchen, then when she looked down at the painted plate labeled "Bruno" on the table
"Yeah my, my gift wasn't helping the family. But, uh, but I love my family, y'know?"
"But I knew how it was gonna look, I knew what everyone would think, because I'm Bruno, and everyone always assumes the worst! So! *Sigh* so..." "You left? To protect me?"
Isabela singing "I'm so sick of pretty, I want something true, don't you?"
Isabela's new colorful flowers immediately wilting when Abuela shows up
"I will never... Be good enough for you. ... Will I?"
"The miracle is dying because of you."
Julietta trying desperately to reach Mirabel as Casita collapses but the floor keeps rolling her away
Casita building protection around Mirabel in it's dying breath, only for the candle to go out anyway.
Mirabel leaving as her family calls for her
Abuelo Pedro holding his arms up in surrender as the horseman swing a sword at him
Abuela's tearstained face sitting on the floor holding her babies right after everything happened 50yrs ago
"You never hurt our family, Mirabel. We are broken... Because of me."
Every moment in Encanto that healed my goddamn heart
Everyone's color coordinated
Antonio holding his hand out to Mirabel and saying "I need you."
Every interaction between Julietta and Mirabel, what a fantastic mother
Felix and Agustin being madly in love with their superpowered wives
Mirabel hugging Luisa and telling her she carries too much
Felix had an umbrella ready for for his wedding day to Pepa, and when she said she accidentally made a hurricane he fondly sings "what a joyous day"
Mariano of all people asking Mirabel if she's ok during the proposal dinner, like the fact anyone paid her any mind was surprising but him, an outsider and during his proposal dinner? Very sweet of him
Camilo trying to calm his mom down like a doting son
Mirabel calling out for Casita to help her when she thinks she's going to fall
"You're very sweaty" are Bruno's first words in the movie.
The baby cactus Isabela makes when she admits she didn't want to marry Mariano
Isabela's face as the yellow powder stained her arm and dress, then kicks more powder onto herself, absolutely destroying her dress and getting color all over her hair and face.
Bruno grabbing a rat and safely putting it in his shirt before escaping Casita by fucking running head first through the wall with a bucket on his goddamn head
"I was given a miracle. A second chance. And I was so afraid to lose it, that I lost sight of who our miracle was for. And... I am so sorry."
Abuela apologizing was so important to me it gets to be listed twice actually
"We were saved because of you. We were given a miracle because of you. We're a family because of you. And nothing could ever be broken that we can't fix, together."
"I asked my Pedro for help. Mirabel. He sent me you."
Abuela, Pepa, and Julietta's faces when they see Bruno again. When Abuela just hugged him, kissed his cheek, and dragged him along, then when she was the one to encourage him out of his hiding spot to see everyone again. When Pepa and Julietta hugged him so hard they lifted him off the ground.
The fact Camilo said Bruno was 7ft tall but he's actually shorter than both of his sisters.
"Uh...not if we don't have a house. What?? We don't have a house, I can't say we don't have a house? What is that?? Not a house!" Camilo didn't get many moments but each was hilarious.
Mirabel helping Luisa push some rubble out of the way, probably the first time anyone has ever helped her lift something
"I think it's time you learned, you're more than your gift."
"And I'm sorry I held on too tight. Just so afraid I'd lose you too. A miracle is not, some magic that you've got, the miracle is you, not some gift, just you. The miracle is you."
The entire village showing up to help rebuild Casita
"Dolores... I see you." "And I hear you."
Antonio holding Mirabel's hand in support like she did for him at the beginning of the movie
"We see how bright you burn."
"What do you see?" "I see... Me. All of me."
Casita coming back to life and immediately waving
Isabela dying her hair and clothes further
Luisa getting to finally lie back and kick her feet up
Felix encouraging Pepa's happy hailstorm
New family photo that includes Mirabel and Bruno and Casita

Encanto headcanons part 4!
- All his cousins and siblings pooled together to get Antonio roller skates for his birthday since he's like "im only walking if I have to bc I'm a child and I demand to be picked up"
- He's a pro
- It makes Agustín want some, but julieta is like nope you'll die
- Félix gave Agustín flirting, dating advice and dance lessons in order to woo Julieta
- Bruno initially was like ummmmm you really want Agustín? But julieta was just so smitten and Agustín was so sweet he was like okay yeah he's a great guy and makes my sister happy
- It was the same with Félix, although he was already friends with Félix prior imo
- Camilo initially cannot stand Mariano and is just like "ew pls leave" whenever he's around
- And although he warms up to him eventually he is still very protective over his big sister
- Isabela is a fuckin pro maid of honour for Dolores, she got that shit down girl
- Luisa and Mirabel would be flower girls, and let me tell you they are just living the dream
- Antonio is the ring bearer, and insists that parce must walk with him down the aisle
- Camilo would be best man, which he's like totally not bothered about what do you mean? (He's very honoured but won't show it okay he's a teenage boy)
- Speaking of weddings! Pepa and Félix renew their vows!
- Bruno is under strict instructions not to mention the weather at all unless asked
- Since their father isn't around, Camilo walks his mama down the aisle
- Much like Bruno, camilo has other 'characters' he pretends to be when he's down or when he's helping his mama calm down they just aren't as obvious
- Bruno and Camilo have no idea how to comfort people
- They just bring tea and think "fuck I hope this works bc I got nothing"
- Mirabel songs and dances all the time under her breath
- Agustín joins in when she does in front of him bc he's a wholesome dad
- Isabela used to tease her for it but finds it sweet (though she'll never admit it)
- Luisa just smiles at how happy it makes her sister and hums the songs to herself later when she's working
- Antonio and Luisa do a lot of working together to sort out the animals in the village
- It's mostly Antonio, Luisa and the donkeys trying to come up with some kinda compromise to their wandering... and well, it's a challenge
- Despite his cool kid facade, camilo is terrified of thunder and lightning
- Because it means something bad is going to happen or he's in trouble or his mama is very upset/hurt/angry
- Mirabel is the only one who knows it freaks him out tho, and is the super comforter
- I'm talking sleepovers with blanket forts, stolen arepas, stories, games, the whole works!
- Antonio is the kinda kid who'll just sneak into other peoples rooms, set up camp either in their beds or on the floor and just fall asleep
- It's like roulette, whos room will Antonio sneak into next?
- If you want camilo to do anything just bribe him with food and you're set
- Luisa is deffo the type of kid who checks on her siblings all the time to make sure they're happy and healthy
- Luisa @ everyone: "Did you drink enough today?" "You eat enough today?" "GET SOME REST"
- Julieta and Camilo love horror movies
- Everyone else hates them

Hello, I was reading your story "Flickering" (amazing) and the current arc of Osma, and I was wondering how Pepa and the rest of the family would react if some villager (very stupid) called her a hypocrite for defending Bruno now when she never did in the past (according to some of them)?
The villagers forget Protective Big Sister Mode at their own peril 👀👀
Tumblr media
“Hypocrite,” Manuel muttered. “Like you give a shit about him.”
He should have known better.
Pepa’s hand clapped down on his shoulder. Her cloud grew and darkened; the clouds overhead began to swirl as a harsh wind picked up. Lightning struck overhead.
“Excuse me?” Pepa’s voice was quiet and ice cold. “What did you just say?”
“Pepa,” Bruno said, stepping forward. “Let’s just-”
“No, Brunito. This idiota is real brave when he thinks no one can hear him. Out with it, Manuel. What did you just say?”
It may have been ten years of separation but Bruno knew that look in his hermana’s eyes. When she got like this there was no stopping her. Plenty of people learned the hard way not to lay a hand on Bruno or throw insults around if Pepa was nearby.
It seemed Manuel had forgotten that lesson.
And it seemed he really was an idiot, because he actually looked Pepa in the eye and said, “Well, since when do you care? He ruined your wedding, remember!? He’s a curse!”
There was a brief moment of silence. Bruno saw a woman in the crowd cross herself.
The clap of thunder was deafening as a harsh, cold rain began to pour. The wind was so strong it knocked Manuel off his feet. Lightning struck, barely missing him.
Manuel screamed, covering his head.
“Uh oh,” Bruno muttered.
“WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL HIM!?” Pepa’s scream could be heard even over the chaos. She stomped forward and bent down, grabbing Manuel by the collar. “You seem to forget, I was the one knocking you sorry idiots on your asses. Bruno would prank you and he could be vicious, but me? Remember how I zapped Ricardo? Remember how I threw you in the river? Want a repeat!?”
“Pepa!” Bruno ran forward, wrapping his arms around her. “Come on, it’s fine. He’s not worth it, you know he’s not!”
“You’re worth it,” Pepa said firmly, never taking her furious eyes off Manuel.
And okay, yeah, that kind of warmed Bruno’s heart. But he was pretty sure Pepa would do something she’d regret if she wasn’t distracted. Dios mio, where was Félix when you needed him?
Sighing, Bruno pulled the very best puppy-eyes he could. They always worked on Julieta, not so much on Pepa, but it was his best bet.
“Please,” he said quietly. “Let’s just go home.”
Pepa stared at him. Slowly, oh so slowly, the fury drained out of her eyes. The storm stopped but Bruno didn’t let go of her until she tossed Manuel back into the dirt with a disgusted huff.
“You have a short memory,” Pepa said coldly. “And I bet some others do too. So here’s a reminder: you mess with my brother and you’ll have to deal with me. C‘mon Bruno.” She stomped away as if he was the one keeping them here.
“Bruno!” Pepa called from a few paces away. “Come on!”
Bruno stared at Manuel, still crouching on the ground. The rest of the crowd was either dispersing or staring.
Bruno leaned down to Manuel and smiled, widening his eyes. He let his grin turn utterly vicious.
“And vice versa,” he said quietly. “Mess with my sister and I will see the worst visions possible, the horrors mankind has the offer…And I’ll make you watch.”
He wouldn’t. But Manuel didn’t need to know that.
Acting had always come in handy.
With that, he ran after Pepa. As soon as he was near enough, she grabbed him and flung an arm over his shoulders.
“Morons,” she muttered. “They should know better by now.”
Well, Bruno wouldn’t argue with that. Surely everyone knew crossing Pepa was a bad idea.
Still…
“You didn’t need to do that,” he said softly. It wasn’t the first time he’d been called Bad Luck Bruno, far from it. He doubted it would be the last.
“Of course I did!” Pepa snapped, but she smiled at him. “I’m your older sister.”
“By ten minutes!”
“Still older!” As she laughed, the clouds in the sky slowly vanished. “Face it, you’re stuck with me, hermanito.”
“…Good,” Bruno said with a smile. “That’s fine by me, hermana.”

Things I like about Encanto that I can remember/will add on to as I watch it again
-Mirabel's skirt has the name Madrigal embroidered onto it. It's around hip level and you can only see it, like, three times but I love it.
-How when Abuela asks Mirabel what she sees, when she looks in the doorknob, you can still juuuust see the Madrigal M through her reflection. Implying that "The Family Madrigal" is still there but now she's not overshadowed by everyone she loves.
-The butterflies in the stones that Julieta and Augustin are replacing during All of You.
-The fact that Mariano is the epitome of Disney Princess(ridiculously pretty, really good hair, wants to get married immediately, etc.) and Dolores is just like "Slow down."
-When Isabela is singing What Else Can I Do, she asks "How far do these roots go down?" The absolute power of the fact that she doesn't know that limit and then Casita just OPENS THE FREAKING ROOF to accomodate Isabela's growth, slays me.
-The fact that if Mirabel hadn't been deprived of a power in the start-as cruel as it seems-Casita/the Miracle crumbling slowly and eventually collapsing/going out, wouldn't have been visible. When things happen, Mirabel is the only one who can see the actual cracks until Bruno comes along. The Miracle not giving Mirabel a tangible gift was the gift itself.
-The fact that Pepa and Julieta are just like "I NEED TO HUG YOU A PIECE OF ME HAS BEEN MISSING FOR SO LONG." when Bruno returns just kills me. Also, Agustin's "The triplets all reunite!" is adorable.
-THE FACT THAT IT'S NOT EVEN BEEN AN HOUR SINCE CASITA CRUMBLED AND THE ENTIRE FUCKING TOWN JUST SHOWS UP LIKE "WE LOVE YOU! YOU'VE HELPED US SO MUCH FOR SO LONG, LET US HELP YOU IN YOUR TIME OF NEED!" Like, Abuela is just....so confused about the SOUND of a group of people that she's been mothering and grandmothering and greatgrandmothering for YEARS wanting to help her. Which is sad, because that surely means that she hadn't've needed to go it alone for so long.
-The absolute power and resolution in Mirabel's voice during the bridge of Waiting on a Miracle shortly followed by her uncertainty about if she's too late to do anything.
-I love that they translated Dos Oruguitas into english as well, because I get so much more emotion from the whole scene since I can recall the meaning of the words, instead of my usual "Oh, pretty words."
Edit 1:
-Luisa and Surface Pressure
-Luisa's line "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless, if I can't be of service." Gets me every time. Every time. There is an entire generation of people out in the world that will relate to Luisa simply because of that line: you're worthless unless I can use you. And lots of them will work their way out of that 6 feet deep hole...and lots of them won't because they are simply so tired.
-Luisa's delicacy with Mirabel in SP-how she tenderly replaces her glasses, how she spends most of the song protecting her from fictional instances, how she holds her hands during the bridge as they're floating, etc. Luisa got her super strength as a child and she had to learn how to be gentle with everyone and then Mirabel came along and there was suddenly this BABY that was so DELICATE and BREAKABLE and Luisa had to relearn how to be gentle again.
-Luisa is posturing during the entirety of SP. Absolutely posturing. Everyone else's songs take place in the real world for the most part-I am considering WDTAB to take place in the real world-but Luisa's is completely a Disney montage song. I mean, dancing donkeys? Sudden twisters, bouncing on clouds? Luisa is posturing because she's had to hide her pain her entire life, she makes jokes to make everyone else more comfortable regardless of her of feelings.
-The way Mirabel's reactions to Luisa change during the song from fear at all the situations despite knowing Luisa would save her to absolute horror during the last chorus where most of the music cuts out. Mirabel has finally realized EXACTLY how much pressure has been put on Luisa since her fifth birthday and she is horrified.
-Back to Luisa's feelings of worth. Her clothes are a lot simpler than everyone else in her family and that makes me think she thinks that everyone only wants her for her gift, so why make the effort to make herself feel pretty every once in a while. She has her hair pulled back so it's out of the way, she has a mostly plain outfit with few embellishments. Plus, I'm pretty sure someone in her life has brought up her height and her muscles. As much as those things can be seen as beautiful and wonderful, even in today's society there are people who are absolutely disgusted by a woman who is muscled or tall and that's a shame.
-At the end of SP, I just realized that it's not just Casita she's holding-it's the ENTIRE TOWN. Luisa feels responsible for the entire town and that's too much pressure for anyone alone. Think of leaders in power-how they started versus how they ended. Most go in as fresh faced, bright, young people and come out weary, greying, and worn.
-There is a moment in SP, right before Luisa sings "I don't ask how hard the work is." where she does this THING with her eyes-she looks away hesitantly before realizing that someone's watching and snaps back to being in the song.
-The few situations that we see the whole part of that leads to the next one...all of them end badly. Luisa defeats Cerberus but the ground still breaks in two. Luisa is holding to the edge of the mountain but the mountain crumbles. Luisa is holding the door up but the twister still scatters everything. Luisa is doing everything right but it's still going badly.
This is all I can think of right now but feel free to add things that caught your eye in the movie and reblog, etc. I just ask you to please try to avoid headcanons and such-just add stuff you noticed and/or enjoyed about the movie and the music.

(SA)
Alma Madrigal kept her youngest grandchild close at all times. The baby was so so small. So very small and so very fragile. She looked like a guest of wind would break her.
And Alma couldn't bare to lose anyone else. She couldn't stand it or survive if she lost one of her two remaining children, her son-in-law or any of her grandchildren.
So yes she was a bit protective of her kids now. Her trip-twins and her grandchildren.
The only times Alma didn't have Mirabel within arms reach was when Pepa and Bruno were caring for her (Pepa fully stepping up as a second parent to her nieces and even choking out once that she could do no less for her sister when she knew that Julie would have done the same if their positions had been switched) or when Isabela and/or Dolores were holding her. But even when the eldest grandkids were holding her Alma was nearby.
Right now though. Right now she wished her hands were free so she could bust out her chancla or maybe just use her bare hands.
Jorge was trying to lie and blame Bruno, her Brunito, again for the crash despite Alma having told everyone about what he had said about it being life or death emergency and what his injury really was.
And Alma wanted so very badly to hurt him. She saw Bruno coming over and was about to hand him Mirabel so she could deck the bastard...but her Brunito surprised her.
The crunching of Jorge's nose breaking under Bruno's fist was a horrid noise but it caught everyone's attention and everyone was surprised or shocked.
"Grow the fuck up and take responsibility! I didn't have a vision! If I did I would have made sure they stayed at Casita like they should have been! You were the one who said to Dolores that it was a life or death emergency and you needed immediate healing from Julieta. You are the reason my sister and brother in law were out and got hit by that cart! Stop trying to blame me for their death when it's because of you they were even out of the house!" Bruno was seething as he glared at the man who was staring at him in horror and shock.
"It's because of you that my sister is dead...that my nieces no longer have their parents and that my mother lost her daughter and son in law. So stop blaming me like a child and grow up. It's your fault so take responsibility."
OH!! OH!!! GET HIM BRUNO GET HIM
Love how Alma wanted to pimp slap him with her shoe <33 But we also love Bruno standing up for himself 👹

Your personal headcanons on how each Madrigal family member would react if someone hurt/insulted/threatened Mirabel?
This would be after the movie!! Ofcourse, every family member knows Mirabel is capable of handling things herself, but after years of protecting her because she had no gift, it would take a while for them not to get angry.
Alma: She'd be at home when Mirabel walked through the door, caked in mud and once Mirabel told her who did it, well, that person would no longer be getting the Madrigals help and Suprise!! Luisa will be helping them move!! Where? Out of the valley. If they break Something and die, well thats not anyone in the valleys problem anymore. :)
Julieta: Oh their getting personally fucked up. Julieta would find a way to break every single bone in their body and let them heal everything naturally. No more free healthcare for as long as they live :)
Pepa: Someone will be getting electrocuted. To death. Don't threaten her neice.
Bruno: They... They really wanna threaten Bruno's neice??? Congratulations!! Their getting a free prophecy!! What is it? Their death. In twenty seconds. They better run.
Agustine: Threaten his daughter and he knows several ways to kill/ maim someone quietly and hide the body. Felix would be helping him hide it.
Felix: Like Agustine, he knows several ways to maim someone. Oh no! His hand slipped! Onto their throat! And now their dead!? Who could have done this- wow, this was so weird...
Isabela: While she's not as... Dangerous as the others, she would make sure (Thanks to Dolores) that wherever the person went, whenever they sat down, whenever they went to sleep, there would be cactuses. I hope they like cactuses because for as long as Isabela is angry at them, there will be cactuses around.
Luisa: Congratulations their house is getting moved! They will wake up in most likely heaven because Luisa would leave the valley just to be able to throw their house as far as she can.
Dolores: Secrets, anyone? Dolores would go for the person and tell them every single thing she knows about them and threaten to tell everyone in the town. The person lives in fear of Dolores.
Camilo: Camilo and Mirabel grew up together. Their really going to threaten them? With Camilo around? They'd wake up in the morning with every single thing in their house gone and Camilo selling it all to the townspeople.
Antonio: Boys just a baby, but he has many, MANY animals that could make someone's life a living hell. They would wake up at three am for the rest of their life to birds or other animals making as much noise as humanly possible.

Okay I’m gonna rant. Listen up, ya’ll. This is my take. I’m not gonna be like, “Don’t send any hate to me, I can’t handle it” because you should be mature enough to know not to send someone hate if you’re a fucking social media user.
Also, I’m sorry if my grammar is pathetic I haven’t been touching it up for a while 🥲 please forgive me.
And absolutely no offence to anyone. You dis/liking a character is completely under your authority! :)
(Jeez I made this rant a bit too personal, I apologise in advance. 😭)
With that said, I’ll begin.
I see everyone all over the Internet that’s just like, “I hate Abuela, she treated Mirabel like hot trash. Her past trauma is not a reason for her to do so.” Yes, she treated Mirabel like hot trash and her past trauma is not an excuse for that behaviour of hers. But I don’t understand why people just stop there and proceed to just hate her instead of trying to understand something.
And I fucking hate the way people just divide characters into two columns where one they absolutely love and the other they absolutely hate. So they’ll just start thinking more and more about the characteristics and personalities of their favs and then just shit on the ones they hate without a logical base.
Yes she treated Mirabel like hot trash. And when I tell you I hated that scene. I fucking mean it. I hated it, with every fibre of my heart, with every micrometer of my body, I fucking hated her in that scene. I hated her.
But, do you guys realise that’s the whole damn point of her character? She’s such a good representation of some of our older family members. And I’m not going to generalise, but almost all of us have been there where our elders pressure us to the point we burnout to death but still keep going out of love, respect and fear for our family. For our elders. And when we open up about the fact that they have favourites, or the fact they’re pressuring us, or even point out a tiny mistake of theirs, they fucking hate it. And they say we’re talking back or disrespecting them. Because they lived a life longer than you, there’s no way they can make even a teeny tiny error, right?
Well, that’s their logic. Again, I don’t want to generalise. But when I talk about this with my friends, almost all of the agree to this. Almost every. single. one of them.
And they just never will admit to making a mistake. No, they have egos possibly larger than this universe which will just make them act like they’re these perfect human beings that won’t make mistakes. At all. And no! I’m not disrespecting you by pointing out a mistake. Yes, thank you for taking care me since my first day on this planet. Thank you for working hard and earning to feed me and some others and to spend on my education. I really, truly, am grateful for that. But that doesn’t make you incapable of making a mistake.
And, for them, it’s either you do your best or your worst. And that’s it. There’s never a “It’s okay, you have a limit. Don’t push yourself. Rest now.” No, it’s always “Either you’re your best version or your worthless. That’s all you are.”
This is what Abuela’s character is. You could see her controlling mannerism in so many scenes, like her telling Pepa to control her emotions and get rid of a cloud, which at one point is just tough as hell, no matter how much of a pro you are at controlling your emotions; and the way she picks out just the white flower from Isabella’s hair during the scene where she’s asks Dolores for a good day for Mariano’s proposal, because she’s supposed to be perfect. Or even the way she just thought Bruno was the bad guy (just like the rest of the town) just because he told them what he saw in his visions. She was that kind of parent. The one that keeps pushing her kids to the point they burnout. And she doesn’t even realise it, because she’s so blinded by her priority to keep the magic safe so that they prosper.
She took this oath to serve her community and protect them and make sure nothing happens to the magic that came to her hands. Her main intention was to protect the magic, so much so she was completely blind to the fact that her kids and grandkids were humans with physiological limits.
And she started completely taking it out on her own granddaughter when the magic was becoming weak. Just because she saw a vision and didn’t take the time to understand it carefully. And that was when we saw the entire house fall apart. When she was shitting on Mirabel like that, because she didn’t have a gift and the assumption from the vision that Mirabel’s the reason the magic was dying.
BUT
Maybe you guys didn’t notice Abuela’s face when Mirabel confronted her. She wasn’t angry anymore. It was more of a guilty shock. (The only reason I’m calling it guilt was that’s kind of the only way her apology would make sense to me). That was probably when she realised she was at fault.
And at least she realised her mistake. And she apologised. She sincerely apologised. For an actual catastrophe that she caused without knowledge. She accepted her mistake. And she apologised (to Mirabel first, then her entire family) for her mistake. She admitted that she pushed her kids beyond their limit. She fucking admitted it.
AND I LOVE THAT ARCH! You know why? Because she’s a 70+ woman who could’ve possibly said a sorry in the most casual manner by using her past trauma as a reason for her actions or just the simple fact that she’s lived longer or whatever shit. But she didn’t. And if you have the kind of elders whom I spoke about in the previous paras, then you probably know how hard it must be to even try to get an apology out of them. Like jeez, it’s not even that hard. Nor is it shameful. Idk why they find it so hard to apologise to their younger ones. Like bro, do you realise that’s a much bigger, a better and quite a respectable move than being a total *** and not apologising?
And maybe her arch was kinda dry and took place in a really short span amidst the plot, but the amount of hate she’s receiving is a bit too much. She had quite a respectable arch, and I think that’s pretty cool.
So, in conclusion, I don’t like Abuela, nor do I hate her. But she’s getting too much hate in spite of having a pretty decent redemption arch. And I thought I’d just get my point straight. :)

I am on my knees and begging for some Mirabel/Camilo headcanons
Oh! Ummm i think i have some:
One of Mirabel and Camilo's favorite passtimes is to make Isabela angry. They just think it's funny. Mirabel will feel sad and Camilo would say something like "do you want to turn Isabela's new dress into confetti" and her face lights up like a kid's on christmas. They're just evil together and like to test Death. This is how they bond. In reality, Camilo is just being protective of Mirabel in the way he knows: being a little shit. The enemy of my friend is my enemy and whatnot.
One of Camilo's most traumatic experiences was being asked to turn into a dead person without being told they were dead. A woman wanted her very old (mentally) ill mother to see her husband one more time before dying and asked Camilo to turn into him. He thinks it's just for shits and giggles until the old woman breaks into tears and grabs him, and he realizes he's playing a dead person. It fucking terrifies him because he was like 13 when it happened and he did NOT sign up for it. He runs back home and wants to see his mom but she's busy having her own anxiety so he seeks Aunt Julieta instead. She's baking something with Mirabel and invites him to join. He doesn't tell them what happens, but he's clearly distressed, and baking with them calms him. Whenever he feels anxious now, he goes to bake or cook with either Mirabel or Julieta. He does prefer to do it when Mirabel is also there, too. But he gets MORE nervous if it's ONLY Mirabel. He doesn't know why.
He loves Antonio so much and spends a large amount of time in his room. He makes the mistake of talking with the animals about Mirabel, you know, like an idiot, and before he knows it Antonio is telling Mirabel how Camilo thinks her glasses look cute, in front of everyone.
He actually gets hurt a lot by Pepa's gift. On accident, of course. He doesn't want his mom to find out so he never asks Julieta for help (because then she's bound to tell Pepa, and Camilo doesn't want her to worry about yet another thing). Instead, he asks Mirabel for help stealing some of Julieta's food. He doesn't blame his mom at all - accidents are bound to happen. He actually quite enjoys sneaking around with Mirabel.
I know he's meant to be the mean cousin but he's such a good boy. He takes care of kids and looks after his mom, he tries to save Mirabel while the house is falling apart, and during the dinner scene, he's the only one drinking water while everyone else is drinking wine or juice (iirc). He's a good boy who understands the importance of staying hydrated. Meanwhile Mirabel is THIS CLOSE to punching a bitch. She was SO EAGER to fight her sister. Do NOT test her. They're not quite "bad girl x soft boy" but she IS the more unhinged of the two.
Mirabel made the first move. She's not embarrassed at all. Well, she is a bit flustered, but less than you'd expect considering this is her hecking cousin. Camilo is the one being like :O
