Donate an eSim, Get a Fic

Hi everyone! First, if you're unaware, please go here for information on how eSims are helping people in Gaza and how you can donate.

Second: For a long time now, I've had my inbox open to fic prompts I fill for free. That isn't going to change. However, as I'm sure my followers are aware, sending me a prompt does not guarantee a fic quickly, or even ever.

If you donate an eSim and send me proof alongside a fic prompt, I promise I will not only write the fic, but I will do it within a month.

(Proof is a picture of the eSim receipt and the email donating the eSim, with any personal information covered.)

I do not guarantee a certain length to the fic. Most of my prompt fills end up around 500 words, but some are shorter and some are longer. If you donate more than one eSim, or donate a larger or longer-lasting eSim, I will do my best to write you a longer fic, though.

There are two ways you can do this:

DM me with a prompt. I will either give you a thumbs up, in which case you can send me proof of donation, or I will ask you to send something else because I'm unable to write your first one (eg I'm not familiar enough with the characters, it's a squicky prompt for me, etc).

Send the prompt and proof of donation in TWO separate asks. One ask should contain both prompt and proof, the second ask should have ONLY the prompt. This is so I can publish the prompt while keeping your personal information, covered or not, private. In the case I'm unable to write the prompt for whatever reason, I will ask you to send a new prompt.

The first way would be my preferred way, but I don't want to exclude people with no tumblr accounts or people who want to ask anonymously, so the second way is available to you.

Big fan of sun motifs in characters not necessarily being about positivity and happiness and how they're so " bright and warm" but instead being about fucking brutal they are.

It’s incredibly important to me that the anime decided to include this scene that wasn’t in the manga. In the manga, Maomao does pass out in Jinshi’s lap after saving him from what was obviously an assassination attempt.

HOWEVER, the manga cuts off at this point, keeping strictly in Maomao’s perspective, and cuts straight to when she regains consciousness in bed after being treated for her injuries. The manga doesn’t show how she got back. They SAY how, and she briefly mentions, “wow that must have been embarrassing; he carried me back,” but we don’t SEE it. We don’t get to feel the true impact of what that means. But the anime DID show us, and holy shit.

They SHOW us how taboo this is. They show Jinshi carrying her out of the temple, after a public attempt on his life.

They show us the shock and horror on Lakan’s face as Jinshi silently walks past him. Horror at the state his daughter is in, horror at another man—a man with a status he could never dare to question—staking such a public claim over his child, horror at the fact that he could never have this level of closeness with her (as Maomao would never allow it).

Everyone hides their gazes, as is their custom when someone of his rank passes by, but the air is different this time. Jinshi is furious, he’s terrified, and he could not give a single shit about how inappropriate it looks to these palace officials.

The shot that slowly follows her trail of blood—even though it’s a small detail—that in particular leaves such a intense impression of how poignant this is for him.

Maomao talked about this scene in the manga like it was nothing to her. She did what she set out to do: she saved the person who was targeted by the attack. She didn’t even know the target would be someone she knew. But she has no idea that this happened afterwards as a result of her bravery. To her, it likely wasn’t even an act of bravery at all. She acted on impulse; she did what she knew was the right thing to do.

The anime didn’t need to include this, because the manga didn’t show it. But damn, I’m so glad they did.

Winter 2023 Schedule

Whew, it's been a bit since I posted a schedule! And a lot has changed since then (aka I took a deep dive into the Top Gun fandom, and only rarely come up for air these days).

My schedule for the coming months, in no particular order:

Finish "Red Sky: A Martian Named Maverick." The fact of the matter is that I was so proud of the first chapter, what I've written for the next chapter just... doesn't compare, in my eyes. I need to just finish it / edit it / do something with it.

Do something with all the Top Gun fic snippets and ideas I have. There are so many. (Maybe a poll? Let you guys decide what I focus on?)

Answer prompts! As always, they're a priority for me. And I have a Brambleclaw & Jay+Holly+Lion focused one coming soon! It's with my beta now.

Write more for other promised fics (fox!Firepaw, Midori Oni, and the long Jiang Cheng fic have taken up residence in my head, and refuse to leave or be written).

That's all for now! Look forward to new and updated fics soon (fingers crossed), and in the meantime, a reminder that my inbox is always open for fandom and/or writing discussions!

pro tip: if you're ever drawing your ocs in drag, you need to use the Queen metric to make sure you're getting it right. optimal success happens when two of your characters are obviously doing it for a joke, one is clearly in drag but still looks amazing, and one is indistinguishable from the average beautiful woman/man
