hehehe the jegulily band au started on this post made by archie ( @aithusarosekiller ) and it hasn't left my mind since. go look through the reblogs bc it's a wild ride. pretty sure both of us have most of the posts related to it tagged as jegulily band au on our accounts so go look through it to see us losing our minds

it's shared project so nothing is set in stone but here are my current ideas for it :D

lily and regulus are high school sweethearts, they met bc they were both in the school band and hit it off from there. lots of teenage shenanigans ensue and lily and regulus end up forming a band with barty, peter and remus. it's nothing serious they just kinda get together once in a while to have some fun playing random songs. they continue this after high school as they're all going to college and everything is normal UNTIL sirius brings along his friends (james and marlene) to one of their band get togethers.

james (who is an amazing producer btw) immediately falls for regulus and lily despite them being already in a relationship and he's like so smitten it's adorable honestly. he starts talking to them and once he finds out they would love to make an album and try taking this band thing seriously he immediately offers himself up to help them make music. and he brings marlene (who is a social media manager) into it like "yeah she'll help you manage all of it" (she has no idea he's doing any of this)

idk how they would actually get together but it doesn't matter rn what does matter is that their silly little band debuts and they go viral bc their music is amazing ofc. they make more albums, their music videos get millions of views, they sell out stadiums, life is great.

everyone knows that regulily are dating bc they're so public about it, but no one knows that james even exists (apart from him being credited as their producer) let alone that he's dating both of them. james, being the rockstar gf he is, constantly posts pictures from their concerts, always with romantic captions or wtvr bc he's a lover like that. the comments on his posts are always split between "this guy is delusional" and "how tf does he manage to get the tickets for EVERY DAMN CONCERT??"

after lots of back and forth, regulus and lily finally get james to star in one of the music videos for a song that lily wrote specifically about their relationship. they tease the song for months, posting snippets and strange photos with captions that don't make sense unless you're following james and you can see that the captions are all connected. everyone just thinks james is delulu

a week before the music video drops, the band's official account posts like a 10 second teaser and it's of lily and regulus doing couple shit BUT there's another guy there with curly hair and round glasses and everyone is going insane bc WHY DOES THAT GUY LOOK LIKE JAMES POTTER THE CRAZY STALKER. jegulily are having the time of their lives watching the fans go crazy, meanwhile poor marlene has to deal with the aftermath

this au is just a bunch of crazy stuff honestly i had so many ideas for it but i didn't write any of them down so i'm stuck with what i can remember off the top of my head </3

oh and also peter/remus/sirius are all dating and sirius is a famous model and he just randomly appears in the band's music videos and all the comments scream "WHAT IS SIRIUS BLACK DOING HERE" like sirius doesn't regularly post selfies with both of his boyfriends 🙄

notes on a resurrection by newleaves perhaps my favorite fic of all time and one that was also recommended to me by a friend! this one has a happy ending but BOY does it take you on a ride to get there

that's the art of getting by by sarewolf @sarewolf one of my favorite fics ever <3 another happy ending but plenty of angst before we get there <3

the feverwake duology, by victoria lee i don't think i've talked about this series before on my blog but it is one of my FAVORITES of all time oh god. it's so so so fucking good dystopian sci-fi magic plague war just. SUCH a cool concept and SUCH beautiful writing i've read it three times and might need to reread soon lol

teeth, by hannah moskowitz gay mermaid love story but like. in the absolute most fucked-up way possible. i love this book SO much hannah moskowitz is just one of my favorite writers of all time

a history of glitter and blood, by hannah moskowitz my favorite book! another story where you get a happy ending but the angst u go through to get there...exquisite

human acts, by han kang made me cry like a fucking baby. this is historical fiction based on very real events and interviews with people who experienced the gwangju uprising + massacre in south korea in 1980.

the song of achilles, by madeline miller another one that i feel like i don't even need to say anything about lol

crush, by richard siken poetry!! here's ur poetry rec. the richard siken hype is not a lie this book will gut you

the animorphs series, by k.a. applegate i am being 100% serious this is one of my favorite series of all time and i read it for the first time as an adult like. this is not childhood nostalgia it was too scary for me as a kid. genuinely changed the way i think about writing and truly is one of the best war stories i have ever read. the last book is gut-wrenching in a way that very little else i have come across is.

the hunchback of notre-dame, by victor hugo for the classics enjoyers <3 victor hugo is one of my favorite writers i was really into his books in high school lol

the man who laughs, by victor hugo not as well-known as his other work but i wrote a big research paper on this book one time so it holds a special place in my heart just bc i spent so much time with it

tv shows

banana fish (2018) outing myself as an occasional anime enjoyer lmao. i watched this bc i kept seeing people talk about how tragic it was and then i saw my sister watching it and i looked up a plot summary of what happens at the end and i was like huh that sounds interesting. and then i sat down to watch it KNOWING what was going to happen and i still like. was screaming crying by the end.

the haunting of bly manor (2020) just re-watched this show like two months ago and it is 2/2 on making me cry so!!

movies

children who chase lost voices (2011) this movie has a happy ending but like. idk man there's this one specific scene that just GETS me every time. always feel hollowed out but like...in a good way after watching it.

brokeback mountain (2005) i mean...do i need to say anything about this one? gay cowboy tragedy my beloved <3

the last unicorn (1982) watching this movie as a kid is i think what altered my brain chemicals and made me an angst enjoyer. so! had to put it on the list <3

and of course on a final note--as these are heavy angst + tragedy etc etc if u know there are things u need to watch out for please look up trigger warnings before diving in! they all contain content that is upsetting in some way...hence the angst. hopefully that doesn't even need to be said but. well an honest hard-working angst farmer needs to cover his bases sometimes doesn't he

So... "What's Left Of Your Mind" is an angst and fluff fic that I got the inspiration after listening to "Western Nights" by Ethel Cain (BTW if you like Hozier and Florence u should definitely check her music, it's so amazing). Specially with this line where she wrote "I'm never gonna leave you baby, even if you lose what's left of your mind", so... I'm assuming you guys all know what I'm talking abt.

Tbh I at first thought of writing something for Remus with that plot, but since you all like Regulus so much I thought why mess with success?

And the other one is a part 2 to the original A House In Nebraska I posted a while back, ALSO based on an Ethel Cain song, but I wanted to write james x regulus for so long...

I just really loved both plots, both run around the day Regulus became an actual death eater, to spice it up a little bit yk

And I'm working on them while also trying to not let the Manilulating Death series aside, so I think you'll be getting them soon :))

Hii! So I'm currently wrapping up a one-shot that will hopefully be published by the end of the day. It's a muggle assassin au and jegulus. I wrote it a long time ago but found it in my drafts recently, so I figured why not just finish it and post it?

It's… embarrassing, tbh. It’s very much PWP, and I don't even know why I wrote it. It's basically James and Regulus bringing a victim back to their rented flat (they've been hired by Riddle) and Regulus wants to question him which... Is not their job. At all. James doesn't understand why. Like, he doesn't want it to get back to Riddle. So James pulls out his gun and shoots the man, which Regulus finds really hot.

When it's posted, I don't want to ever hear about it again. Read it or don't. I will pretend it doesn't exist and I’ll gaslight every one of you if you mention it to me😌

to me, reading choices was almost like an exercise in empathy. let me try to explain (very poorly, probably, but i did my best.)

people in choices— wait for it— make choices. good and bad and neither and both. they make decisions, and we read about why they came to the conclusions they did and what happens because of the conclusions they reached.

none of the characters (i feel) were written to be 100% good or 100% bad. they all had mix of both in them, and so how much a reader likes, or dislikes, a character is entirely up to how much they empathize (empathy can also be exchanged with sympathy for this post btw) with them. and how much a reader empathizes is like an exercise in and of itself, because:

what makes you feel empathy, and what doesn’t? when is your empathy taken away? when is it right to extend empathy out to someone? when is it wrong? can it even be wrong to empathize to begin with? is feeling empathy towards someone enough to justify their actions? when can empathy excuse said actions? can empathy excuse at all? if it can, then when should it excuse and/or justify wrongdoings? at what point is empathy not enough, and when is it too much? does it matter?

i don’t know about you guys, but i found myself asking these questions towards myself while reading. whether it was in response to the actions of regulus, or james, or remus, or sirius, or snape, or even fucking evan and peter— i asked those questions, and it made me think.

people can have their own opinions on what i’ve said— about the extents of empathy— and their own opinions about choices, but i think it’s pretty interesting how a fanfiction made me ask all these heavy questions. i think good art does that (although “good” is subjective in art, so take that statement i wrote with a grain of salt.)

choices almost feels like a mirror being reflected at me, making me take a long look at myself and how much empathy rules over how i treat and feel for people and characters.

i just think it’s interesting, that’s all.

Friend, I am OVERJOYED to read this because I finished a fic recently that I haven't posted yet, and it was kind of a disaster and it went through so many rewrites that I was feeling so down about my fics.

And then I started this one and it is working out rather well, so I'm glad to see you're looking forward to it! I'll warn you though, I never post a fic that isn't finished and with the way this one is going, it may turn out to be a MASSIVE undertaking.

I mean, I'm 22k words in and Remus and Sirius haven't even SPOKEN to each other. Probably my slowest slow burn to date 😅

if ever you needed an introduction to the wonder that is the jegulus fandom, @screamingfae is a great place to start. her fics have been forcing me to take another look at the slytherins of the marauders era and damn am I glad I've given them a chance.
