This is shorter than what I usually post.

Also, for some reason every time I typed "Rodrick" it always autocorrected to "Rodriguez" lmfao. I tried fixing it every time it did that, so hopefully there aren't any leftover "Rodriguez's" that I didn't catch.

You can't help but find it funny that Rodrick's mom busted him for having a porno mag, you teased him about it for weeks.

However, what you've just found in Rodrick's closet was a lot harder to tease him about. You didn't even think you should mention that you found it, you debated on keeping it a secret forever.

Rodrick had asked you to run up to his room to grab another pair of drumsticks for him, which he said was in his closet.

The drumsticks were nowhere to be found, so you had to dig around a little. Instead you found another porno magazine- which wouldn't have even phased you honestly, only what shocked you is that it's a gay porno magazine.

Rodrick was the type to make jokes about himself being into dudes, but you didn't actually think he was. After all, he has been your best friend ever since you moved to Plainview at the beginning of your Freshmen year.

You've both been through so much together; struggling through all 4 years of highschool as the wild emo outcasts, graduating, and forming the Löaded Diaper! You've even come out to him and told him you like guys, so you didn't think he'd keep something like that from you.

Your eyeliner smudged eyes are probably buldgeing out of your head right now.

"Um...I thought they were jokes?" Even as those words are coming out of your mouth you felt kinda stupid. For as long as you've known Rodrick, he's always said stuff like that.

Anyone also knows that Rodrick is never subtle when it comes to flirting, so you should have probably known that all of the random pickup lines he's used on you were most likely serious.

Rodrick's mouth hung open. "So you're telling me that I've basically just been hitting on a brick wall for 5 years?"

"i'M sOrRy! You know I have low self esteem! Whenever people like me I never notice because I don't think people will ever like me!!" Words all blended together as you spoke in a fast panicked pace.

Rodrick quite literally facepalmed.

You're lucky your obliviousness is cute or else he'd pumble you for talking down about yourself.

"I don't even know what to say right now." Rodrick was lost for words.

You awkwardly fiddled with your fingers, still sitting on the floor of his room in front of the closet. "If it means anything, I've had a crush on you for almost as long as I've known you." You puffed your cheeks out, feeling them becoming warm, probably turning pink.

Rodrick choked on his own spit. "iF IT MEANS ANYTHING TO ME???? HELL YES IT DOES!! How the heck you have a crush on me of all people?!" You looked down at the floor, kinda shocked that he doesn't understand why you'd like him.

"You're literally a hot emo boy who wasn't mean to me when I moved here. I had nothing before I met you, and you took me on so many adventures and showed me so many new things. I'm glad I met you, and it was hard not to fall for you."

It felt like you ranted a little too much, probably spilled a little to much and made yourself seem like a bit of a lonely loser without Rodrick.

You got a little scared when he wasn't saying anything. Your gaze lifted from the floor to meet his calculating expression.

His reply was simply just "can we makeout?"

This is my first time doing headcanons like this so it might be a little sloppy and all over the place :3

He's more of a big brother with how carefree he can be

He loves having mini prank wars with you [sometimes will help you prank the band members]

When it comes to the band he made sure they were all respectful of your regression which wasn't a problem because they all love having you around

Rodrick will let you sit on his lap and play his drums when your regress while they're practicing

If you're not playing the drums he usually brings a few toys for you to fidget and play with!

So many snacks! Rodrick almost always has your favorite snacks and it's hard for him to say no when you ask for more

He loves to watch cartoons with you and will get involved in the story and act surprised when something dramatic happens

One thing he loves to do is sing you lullabies to sleep

He made a few stuffies for you out of random fabric but he likes to buy fugglers for you!

At night he'll let you sit on the roof with him and look at the stars but he makes sure you're safe and close by him

He loves sleep so he'll almost always cuddle you he would never says no to a good nap

(Anticipation)

lee!Greg ler!Rodrick (I just finished chapter 82 of dysfunctional perspective).

"GREG YOU FUCKING NUMBNUT"yelled Rodrick as he rumaged the house for his little brother. Greg went into the basment and closed the door, stupidly not locking it. It was dark and quiet, too quiet. If his brother doesn't kill him, he'll have quite a story to tell.Greg began to take a sigh of relief but that was when he heard a yell.

"GREG, WHEN I FIND YOU, IM GONNA WRECK YOU TILL YOU CRY" said Rodrick.

Gregory wondered why his eldest brother couldn't just say tickle, but then again he didn't understand his brother for the most part.

Suddenly his mom came in. Shit he thought.

"Hey sweetie, whatcha doing in here,please come out. That was when Rodrick spotted him. They stared at eachother and Rodrick worded out to him.

"I'll get you later"

A week had past and Greg had been unusually jumpy, Rowley thought it was weird but he didn't need to know.

Greg went home that afternoon, expecting a jumpscare or a random tackle, but nothing....

He went to storm in to Rodrick's room and as he busted open the door, Rodrick looked as if he had been expecting him.

"Wha-"muttered Gregory before he was cut off.

"What gives, you ask?"said Rodrick as he sat down in a chair like a villain from a movie.

"Yeah but..."Greg was once cut off again.

"It's simple science, my wimpy sibling. I made you wait for it. I knew drawing it out would drive you absolutely insane and you knew that I would be out for revenge after what you did" said Rodrick.

Greg stumbled back and looked for is get away but he literally walked right into Rodrick's hand. Rodrick pounced on him.

"MOM!" yelled Greg.

"Isn't this what you've been waiting for? Mom left 20 monutes ago so you have no where to run" said Rodrick.

Greg gulped, his demises finally upon him.

Rodrick blew raspberries into Greg's stomach and Gregory screamed loud enough to Frank who was in the living room.

Rodrick is a scorpio

So that makes a lot of sense right off the bat

If we look at how he’s portrayed

Which is through Greg’s perspective aka the most unreliable narrator of all time

We see an angry, angsty, aggressive rebellious teenager

He’s viewed as lazy, selfish, and manipulative, while being simultaneously “dumb” and smarter than he lets on

I saw a post that said maturing is realizing Rodrick wasn’t a villain, he has shitty mental health and a lot of issues he’s not getting help for

And yeah

Yeah that’s what’s actually going on

First of all I think we can all agree he’s dyslexic

I think it’s also pretty safe to assume he has adhd

But I know for a fact this boy has had a monster energy dependency since he was Greg’s age

We know at this point that people with adhd and dyslexia (separately and together) often times have low self esteem for a variety of reasons

And my god there is no one with worse self esteem than Rodrick Heffley

He knows his parents think he’s dumb

They’re not good at hiding it

They might not have said it to his face but he knows

I get the sense that Rodrick isn’t really aware that all of his struggles are both diagnosable and treatable

So until he learns that many years later

He does actually think he’s kind of dumb

At least in terms of academics

But he can say at least he’s pretty clever

He definitely favors street smarts over book smarts yk

And that’s something that he relies on a lot

He’s taken the classic undiagnosed adhd + learning disorder rout of convincing himself school is stupid and doesn’t mean anything

Even though he actually gets really bad rsd

Especially through academic invalidation

So by the time he was around Greg’s age he’d already convinced himself that school is stupid and doesn’t matter

That no one else gets him

And what better way to back up that belief than fixating on rock and pop punk music???

So when his mom calls his hours and hours of drum practice noise and racket

I think he’s actually kind of scared of someone liking him

The same way where he expects people to be disappointed in him but it’s okay because no one sees his creative vision like he does

He’s convinced himself that the girls in plainview probably aren’t going to get him

So besides his stint with Lyndsey

Which hurt way more than it was supposed to

And a fling with that girl from Isla de Corales that burnt out as hot and fast and ugly as he expected it to

He hasn’t really had any actual relationships

Besides the occasional hook up or make out session at a party

He doesn’t want to admit to himself that he knows if a girl actually liked him enough to really get to know him they’d see past the punk boy persona to how fucked up he is

And they’d get scared off

On a similar note

But he’s kind of hiding all his good songs???

He keeps telling himself that it’s fine to just perform fluff and filler songs at first

The ones where he really actually has something to say

Because if he posts diper overlode online and it gets 5 views, who cares

But if he posts a song that’s all his innermost thoughts to the hardest drum beats and guitar riffs and bass solos he can possibly come up with

And it gets 3 views and a comment that says it’s shit

It would kill him

Nothing can make him stop making music

Except maybe that

So once he gets into a more accepting, less harshly critical environment

It will be way easier for him to start dropping better and better songs

A little positive reinforcement goes a very long way with him

So by the time that you finally stumble into his life

However that happens

Maybe you saw him at Heather’s sweet sixteen and actually thought he was really good

You hunted him down a while later to tell him

And ask when their next performance will be

Or you heard him blasting his band’s cd at the pool for about 12 seconds before he had to shut it off

And you marched right over to buy one

And he fell in love right there

Or maybe you’re auditioning to be loded diper’s new guitarist or something

And he takes one look at you absolutely shredding

And his stomach drops and his heart starts pounding

Or some other meet cute

Or meet uncute knowing him

Goddamn you give him so much serotonin right off the bat

You figure out pretty quick that the way to his heart is making him laugh, quality time, and very gentle encouragement

He is a good ass boyfriend in a really chill way

I like struggling through homework together cause you’re hot not cause looking at you kind of makes me believe in myself a little and makes really shitty things easier to get through

I try to keep you away from my family because they’re so annoying and you’re so hot not because I know my parents have historically sabotage everything that makes me genuinely happy (which used to just be rock but now is you and rock) and I don’t want them to say something to upset you

Or try to come between us because I’m not going to say this and I want to avoid this situation at all costs but I know if it came to an ultimatum most likely from my mom that I’d pick you

All of this is really just him trying not to jinx anything

And he’s not going to do anything to jeopardize that

On the surface his feelings towards both you and his band might seem casual

It’s almost unfathomable to him

Like he thought it was going to be a long time before he found someone like you

Even just thinking about you is like someone slapped some jumper cables on him and revved the engine

He’ll almost definitely act like what you two have is super casual and barely anything worth noting for a while

Mostly around his family

That way you can avoid a formal Meet The Parents moment

He’s not going to subject either of you to that

After enough time passes his family is just kind of used to seeing you around

Rides to and from school

Hanging out during band rehearsals

Doing homework together

Once you’ve reached I’m with the band status

He doesn’t worry as much

They just sort of mentally put you in part of his friend group/inner circle yk

Which is great because now you can basically come over and spend as much time together as you want without any questions

It’s a pretty good way to gently fold you into his life

The way you’d tenderly fold whipped egg whites into pastry dough

I do have some unfortunate news

Which is if you’re dating Rodrick

Greg will probably get a weird awkward crush on you too

It sort of comes with the territory

Thankfully you have about one interaction with him every six months or so

All of which are by coincidence or accident

So it’s not really an issue

Unless you’re a babysitter or tutor or something

That’s when things can get messy

But hopefully that won’t be an issue

For now at least

Cause for now he just wants to spend time with you

He just wants to listen to music with you and drive around in his van and kiss your beautiful face

He knows shit won’t always be this easy

So he’s holding onto these good old days while he can

Because he knows these moments with you right now

These early morning texts about weekend plans and homework answers

Afternoons practicing the drums and trying unsuccessfully not to be distracted by how pretty you are when you watch him

Nights driving around in his van, going nowhere in particular

Just so you can be together a little longer

Just so you don’t have to go home yet

So he can savor the feeling of your hand in his for a few more minutes

For one more song

These are the good old days

And there will be even better days ahead

If you fell asleep at his house, for any reason, he would wake you up by sticking his drumstick up your nose.

He would give up on his eyeliner halfway through doing it and start begging you to do it, just completely sobbing for you to do it for him until you finally agree to it.

Rodrick would not have enough money for a date night so you two would just sit in his room and he would play you his new songs, they all sucked but it was better than nothing.

Susan would make you two babysit Greg or Manny so she wouldn’t have to pay a babysitter but at the end of it, The two of you would be making out on the couch.

He would absolutely hate cuddling unless you were sick or upset. If you were sick, he would literally drag you into bed before trying to make you soup then burning it.

After one of his bandmates left, he would try and teach you how to play the guitar. He would stand behind you with his hands around your waist as you tried to play the right strings.

You would try and help him with as much of his homework but would get distracted halfway through and start complimenting you so he didn’t have to do anymore work.

His notebooks/hands would constantly be covered in little hearts with the both of your initials but he would never admit that to you.

Rodrick would get jealous/angry with you if you came over and spent more time with his family than with him.
