Don’t mind me, just hyper-fixating on how these two are always aware of what’s happening to each other in battle.

Taking Out the Trash
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is essentially how I see the story going now that we’re back to Remnant. Jaune and Weiss are definitely gonna settle the score with Cinder, in a Bumbleby v Adam-esque final fight imo. A lot building up to this; Pyrrha, Cinder almost killing Weiss, Penny's sacrifice, Jaune's ongoing conflict with Cinder, the way it would really hit Cinder if Ruby didn't focus on her and goes after Salem instead, the way Cinder thinks Jaune is beneath her and is outraged over the thought that he could have killed her and on and on. Although, I wouldn't be opposed to Ruby being part of that fight.
And hey, Cinder’s already made something of a dumpster fire out of her quest for power. Really her greatest achievements seem to be the result of working with the people around her; Torchwick, Watts, Neo, Emerald and Mercury. Increasingly though, Cinder’s becoming isolated, in no small part due to herself. That's all coinciding with the show’s theme of the importance of trust and cooperation bringing about strength and the resolution of the world’s and individual’s problems. Not hard to imagine where Cinder will wind up after taking the opposite path.
I originally intended to just edit Cinder in place of Marrow in the scene where Weiss is dragging him across the room. Put a good amount of work into fixing up that background, too. But a brilliant suggestion by Mallobaude to add a dumpster in the corner of the room changed my mind, and with a change of scene and a bit more editing we gained the nice scene we see before us now. The reference scene I took the background from is just brilliant, Weiss literally throwing a racist guy in the trash.
Anyway, I thought it was a fun idea to make my own little version of that meme trend I referenced in the 1st panel, with the rest of this little comic putting a bit of a twist on it actually being Weiss who’s all set to take care of Cinder. Hope you all enjoy!

The Genuine Shock and horror on their faces are very much deserved. Who knows how long Jaune has been here? He was the last to fall but apparently the first to arrive in the Everafter.
Been fighting the Jabberwocky by his lonesome and whatever else threatens the people here most likely. His armor is rusted down, his shield and sword faded.
Above all else he looks…he looks tired.
Tumblr media
Relieved to see them…but tired
For the first time in a VERY long time….I’m interested in Jaune Arcs story.

I’ve seen some people saying they wished bumbleby had happened in volume 7 or 8 after the latest episode aired, and I gotta say, there are a few reasons why it really, narratively couldn’t have.
You gotta realize that both of these characters’ entire arcs, while they’ve always been intertwined, have been about them individually working through trauma. Blake is an abuse survivor, and Yang has abandonment issues; similarly to the reason that they didn’t just make out at the end of volume 6, they’re both hesitant to acknowledge their feelings while they’re in Atlas.
Yang confronted Raven, who then left her again, in the vault of the spring maiden just over a month ago as of the huntress work montage. And Blake, even after those weeks of working with Yang and getting to be herself with her, which is made clear during A Night Off, is still conflicted about what happened with Adam. Blake and Yang even talk about that when they’re waiting in ambush in Worst Case Scenario.
Things obviously go off the rails from that point on, as every chapter from Cordially Invited to Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds takes place within the span of about 4 or 5 days at most. Blake sides with Ruby when Ruby and Yang have different priorities, and then acknowledges the effect Adam has had on her when she’s talking to Nora about her sense of self. Yang wonders if Blake will think less of her for arguing with Ruby and prioritizing Mantle since Blake took Ruby’s side, and later it’s very clearly pointed out by Ren that Yang dismisses her feelings with jokes. But they’re both still worried about each other.
From Ultimatum onward, they’re basically inseparable, and Blake was always going to encourage Yang to have a talk about feelings with her the moment that she thought she lost Yang in Worthy. That’s why the confession scene is so perfect: they both realize exactly what’s happening, that they can’t take the next step without acknowledging their feelings, and that’s a microcosm of their whole romantic dynamic so far.
That’s why it’s so perfect that Blake is the one to say she’ll feel better when they’re together, and Yang figures out that she has to talk about Blake, then casually asks if there’s any big truths they “haven’t dropped on each other yet.” Yang thinks “I love you” and Blake knows it. That’s why it’s so perfect when they literally hear each other’s thoughts, and the second Blake hears Yang doubting herself, she encourages her to just say it. That’s why it’s so perfect that when she hears Yang utter “I think—“she immediately replies “I love you too.”

RWBY Parallels V5, V8, and V9
Ruby’s hand-to-hand combat.
V5E3: Ozpin, “Getting you four in fighting shape… (points to Ruby) You can only fight so long as you have Crescent Rose, but you’re still lacking in hand-to-hand combat.”
V8E14: Ruby loses Crescent Rose. While she had some coaching from Ozpin in volume 5 and tries to engage in hand-to-hand combat against Neo in volume 8, it’s clear she heavily relied upon her weapon. I expect in volume 9, we will start to see her branch out of her comfort zone to other styles of combat. I hope Yang is going to coach her a bit more in the art of hand-to-hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruby is purity.
V5E5: Blake, “Have you ever met someone and thought to yourself, ‘They are the personification of this word’? …I remember getting to know Ruby and thinking, ‘This girl is the embodiment of purity.’ After a while, I saw Weiss was defiance. And Yang was strength.”
V9: The quote from season 5 about Ruby being purity reminded me of the poem Child of the pure unclouded brow from Alice in Wonderland that speaks of losing one’s sunny face and silver laughter. Ruby's purity and silver eyes may be why she is tied to the weather in this version of Wonderland. The last stanza of the poem especially stood out to me.
And though the shadow of a sigh May tremble through the story, For ‘happy summer days’ gone by, And vanish’d summer glory – It shall not touch with breath of bale The pleasance of our fairy-tale.
How do you handle all of this?
V5E5:
Oscar to Ruby, “How do you handle all of this? …How can you be so confident? People have tried to kill you. The world’s about to go to war all over again. How are you okay with any of this?”
Ruby to Oscar, “When Beacon fell, I lost two of my friends: Penny Pollendina and Pyrrha Nickos. I didn’t know them for very long but that doesn’t change the fact they were two of the most kind-hearted people I’d ever met. But that didn’t save them. Pyrrha thought if there was even the smallest chance of helping someone that it was a chance worth taking, and because of that, she died fighting a battle she knew she couldn’t win. And Penny was killed just to make a statement… I am scared but not just for me. What happened at Beacon shows Salem doesn’t care if you’re standing against her or not. She’ll kill anybody, and that scares me most of all. Pyrrha, Penny, I’d be lying if I said that it didn’t hurt, that I didn’t think about them every day since I lost them, that I didn’t wish I had spent more time with them. If it had been me instead, I know they would have kept fighting too, no matter how dangerous it was. So that’s what I choose to do: to keep moving forward."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
V8E14: Penny is still fighting even after Ruby and Blake fell.
V9 Intro: While Ruby could still keep a positive outlook in Volume 5 after the initial loss of Penny, I can't imagine Ruby keeping the same outlook in Volume 9 after round 2 of losing Penny.
Tumblr media
Think back to Beacon
V5E7: Ren, “That desire to go back and tell yourself not to be so stupid. That just proves you’re not the person you used to be. You’re smarter or kinder or stronger, and you’re not done growing yet.”
V9 Trailer: “What are you going to be?”
In Alice in Wonderland, Alice says, "Mabel, I’ll stay down here! It’ll be no use they're putting their heads down and saying ‘Come up again, dear!’ I shall only look up and say ‘Who am I then? Tell me that first, and then, if I like being that person, I’ll come up: if not, I’ll stay down here till I’m somebody else’—but, oh dear!” cried Alice, with a sudden burst of tears, “I do wish they would put their heads down! I am so very tired of being all alone here!”
I think Ruby's younger self speaking to her older self is meant to mirror the conversations Alice has about who she is and who she will become.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Ruby sticks around…
V5E7: Yang, “If Ruby sticks around, then I will too. If there’s one thing I know about her, it’s that she somehow always knows the right thing to do.”
V9 Trailer: Unknown voice (though it sounded similar to Salem to me), “You never were the hero... You seem to be carrying a rather large burden with you. What if you could leave Ruby Rose behind, shed like an old coat? What might happen if you don’t?"
Will the team have to face this question? What growth will Ruby have to go through to keep fighting and to continue being a leader?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm still rewatching the other seasons, but I found some of these moments interesting to compare, and I am excited to see Ruby's growth especially!

Cinder really is zeroed in on killing all of Jaune's love interests though. It's suspiciously consistent.
Almost makes one believe Cindere and Knightfall is canon, and not just in the manga.
I also had to redraw most of Jaune's left arm from the elbow down, after cutting Ruby out of the scene. I think I did a pretty decent job.

Lets Talk About: RWBY VOLUME 9 EPISODE 5
Alright let's jump right into it!
Overall the pacing of this episode and the others was great as has been the case with the whole of this Volume. Ilike how they explained the 'afterlife' of the Everafter or really, it's way of reincarnation.
Because that's exactly what it is, reincarnation. When their purpose is fulfilled or someone is broken they return to the Everafter and ascend to a new form and purpose. It's a nice concept that felt organically explained.
The highlights of this episode however were, as seems to be the theme of this Season, towards the latter half.
Firstly, we have Ruby talking to the weaponsmith.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like every time we separate Ruby from her friends and family we're going to get her going through a crisis. Here we once again see her fall into the trap of the "I'm the leader, responsibility and blame falls on me. I can handle it all." Mindset.
But honestly? I feel like she's breaking that mindset down and not in a good way. The way her eyes go from open to half lidded and her voice becomes monotone is direct proof of that, she's saying that not because she believes it.
She's saying it because she's trying to keep herself moving one step at a time. An action that is proving to be very difficult as she sees Penny in her sword and then later on sees an image of her mother in the blade of an axe.
There's this theme of Ruby giving away or letting go of her past that seems to be playing out here and I am admittedly excited to see where it goes. The Weaponsmith telling Ruby to "Set her burden down." and saying that she's "Searching for something she doesn't know." are driving that plot theme home but it's also dangerous.
Because Ruby could also misinterpret those words as her needing to just let EVERYTHING go. A path that, at this point, may sound more appealing to her.
Now let's get to the last part of the episode i found myself surprsingly enjoying.
Jaune Arc The Rusted Knight.
I admit, I was NOT looking forward to Jaune being here. I've stated this before in a previous post and discussed it with friends but putting Jaune here could/might take away from Ruby and Co like he's done before. It's not his fault it's the writers fault for making his charcater do that but that, among other things in hindsight, has made my views on Jaune take a nosedive over the years RWBY has been going on.
So when I saw him show up I was like "Welp, knew it was gonna happen. Saw him fall, let's see what he's been up too."
And what he's up to has been, presumedly, ALOT!
Tumblr media
I admit i was NOT expecting this. It seems time works differently in the Everafter in the best or worst way possible depending on how you look at it. Jaune has obviously been here for a very long time, beard aside there are GREYS in his hair. It's something that RWBY picks up on instantly.
Tumblr media
Look at the mix of shock and horror on their faces. Their friend has been here all this time ALONE. They found each other quickly but him?
He's had nobody for who knows how long. He's a full on adult as of this moment and now V9 has my attention on this man, something I thought would never happen again.
Here's hoping they can keep it going forward.
