"And I'm not gonna tell you, here, how to live your life. I'm just saying, I guess, that I got very lucky. You know, I'm looking at a strange and unpredictable future in a tough business with rules that I'm not completely familiar with, and when I become familiar with them, I, you know, I don't know whether I like them that much."
(Anthony Bourdain, quoted in Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain)

Okay, but in “Silver Tongues” Louis talks about all the stupid inside jokes that “only we know” and not wanting to go home and “Keep Driving” Harry lists off all these seemingly unconnected concepts that clearly only make sense to him and the person that he turns to and asks “Hey, you. Should we just keep driving?” In this essay I will…

Two left. . .
So after the sheer ‘What the Fuckery’ of the entirety of episode 8: A Hurt So Good, They did it Twice...
When it comes to things I want to see in shows I love, I almost with out a doubt never get what I hope to see. No matter how much I look at the narrative context, the writing path, the way things seem to lay out. . . I just, never get to see what I feel would be the best way to go. (By my own opinions and thoughts of course. I don’t hold all the knowledge, so of course there’s things I would not think of but be like ‘Oh wow, that’s good, that’s awesome.’)
There are a lot of ways the next two episodes can go, and we have just a few context clues left of what we still have yet to deal with/see.
But the biggest thing I want to see, that I need to see. . .is for Jaune to have WBY get on Juniper and chase the cats trail (as he’s leaving one with his glowly geometricness). . . and then for him to either drink the tea from Neo’s cup, or grab a leaf.
He’s still not okay. He’s still broken. As far as I’m concerned he’s compartmentalizing SO hard right now.
People have been quick to point out just how quickly Jaune’s attitude flips from “The Tree Means Death’ to ‘Okay, Ascension Then’ . . .
And that’s because he NEEDS TO BELIEVE RUBY’S NOT DEAD.
He needs to believe she can still be saved.
It’s why I feel him missing the cat by an inch was so on purpose (narrativly speaking).
He hasn’t been able to truly save anyone here in the real sense of things. Because they aren’t who needs saving.
I do think Ruby is going to meet with the Blacksmith again. I do believe they’ll talk, and maybe she’ll even be mostly convinced. But if Jaune suddenly showed up to intervene? But not in the ‘don’t do this’ way. . . instead the ‘Tell me what you want’ kind of way. The ‘This is the person I see you as, but tell me who you see/who you think(feel) you are.’
Jaune doesn’t stop her ascension, but maybe instead helps her figure out which version of herself she wants to be, and maybe Ruby does that for him too.
Saving someone doesn’t always have to look like it does in the storybooks.

i know ryoko kui is a real one because she wrote 97+ chapters of a manga about fantasy ecosystems and food chains and not once did she write the phrase "survival of the fittest" (it's a bad phrase) (it's a social darwinist phrase even) (hated amongst biologists) (doesn't make sense) (darwin didn't use it) (coined by an business major) (one of the worst phrases in pop science) (no good)

I was watching the episode where Merlin disguised himself as the “dolma” and I was feeling frustrated at Arthur’s lack of concern to Merlin’s whereabouts. It goes against everything we’ve ever seen of him. He never forgets Merlin and he’s never calm when Merlin is in potential danger.
So I was thinking to myself, why? Why would Arthur forget Merlin? And I remembered that, despite being an old woman sorceress, he immediately felt like he knew her somehow. She is everything that Merlin is not (to his knowledge), and yet he somehow knows her. Just like he did with “Dragoon”.
“You seem familiar, sorceress” - Arthur
And as the “dolma” points out he’s forgetting something, he jokes with her the exact way he does with Merlin. “Ah, I thought things had gone unusually smoothly” + other lines. Why would he do that?
Because a part of Arthur knows Merlin is standing right in front of him. He’s unable to recognize that he’s forgetting Merlin, because he can feel that he’s standing right there. He bickers with her because that’s Merlin. She has to explicitly point out that it’s Merlin he’s forgetting, in order for his brain to override his feelings.
Arthur always knew the true Merlin. Even if neither of them knew it.
“I would recognize you in total darkness, were you mute and I deaf. I would recognize you in another lifetime entirely, in different bodies, different times. And I would love you in all of this, until the very last star in the sky burnt out into oblivion.” - Recognition

Dragon for Arthur and triskelion for Merlin!
Two sides of the same coin and all. I was proud. I had to in depth explain this to my friend that I went with.

if you think about it, will's tendency to call things that are morally wrong "ugly" instead of bad or unethical or any other synonym, is him already subscribing to hannibal's philosophy of “ethics being aesthetics” before hannibal even influenced him in that direction. hannibal just changed it from "ugly" to "beautiful".

so we all know about “who the hell is jordie?” “someone i trusted. someone i couldn’t afford to lose”, right, but what we forget is the significance of kaz calling jesper ‘jordie’. it’s not just that jesper is a brother to him- jordie was kaz’s protector. jordie was the 13 year old that protected kaz and who kaz protected, the goofy one who made him smile and bought him hot chocolate at night. he felt safe around him. he trusted jordie with his life. in calling jesper ‘jordie’, kaz shows that subconsciously, he trusts jesper to protect him, that he could turn to him should he need it. and every time he yells at jesper, the gambler who couldn’t stay out of the red, for losing another bet, getting in debt again, all he can see is that same thirteen-year-old boy, swindled out of everything he owned and left for dead on the street. with every word he yells at jesper, he silently urges him to stay alive. with every bet jesper makes, all kaz can think is “i can’t lose a brother. not again.”
