personally i like to deal with tiers of canon, it’s easy for me because i’ve been doing this for years
adventure time is canon to the AT comics, but only up to the end of season 3, and after that it’s a roulette. the AT comics have their own continuity. North’s comics or the show are canon to whichever OTHER miniseries from time to time, but that’s never a given.
homestuck is canon to the homestuck epilogues, but the homestuck epilogues are not canon to homestuck, and the epilogues are canon to HS^2, but HS^2 is not canon to the epilogues.
HS^2 and the epilogues are canon to Pesterquest, but Pesterquest are not canon to them. Friendsim is canon to Pesterquest, and CAN BE canonical to Hiveswap and Homestuck, there are seriously no major contradictions caused by Friendsim. However, Pesterquest is not necessarily canonical to Friendsim.
and finally, bayonetta is canon to bayonetta 2, and there’s no reason why bayonetta 2 can’t be canon to bayonetta, and there’s no reason why bayonetta 3 can’t be canon to bayonetta 1 unless you really hate it, but bayonetta 3 is absolutely NOT canonical to bayonetta 2, or vice versa. they actively contradict each other.
basically the earlier a thing is, the more canon it usually is, unless it’s a prequel, in which case it’s up to you

Snack AU Summary
Tumblr media
Catra had always been alone on the cold, dreary streets of Halfmoon and solitude suited her just fine. She never relied on anyone, until Evangeline. Evangeline was one of two immortal vampires, the First Ones. Catra could get attached, she would never leave Catra because she would never die. Until she did. Catra would never forget the immeasurable pain she felt losing her sire. So, she did what came naturally and locked away her grief to make these monsters pay.
Adora is a passionate, by the book detective with the HMPD. Adora lost her sister in a home invasion and her case ran cold. She joined the academy like her sister and had some big boots to fill. She wanted to fight away all the shadows that scared the people of this city, the same shadows that thrive in the silence Adora can no longer stand.
They were brought together by devastating circumstances, but Catra and Adora unite to catch Evangeline’s killer. In the cold dark streets of Halfmoon, they might be just what the other needs to get through this.

Me: She-Ra and Heartstopper are so fundamentally different that it’s not possible to combine them in a crossover or AU.

THE STATE OF CAPTAIN LASERHAWK
I do hope that captain laserhawk shows up on Netflix geeked week 2024.
I bet the reason why it isn’t showing up this year is because the show just came out and geeked week has a specific release window for shows to get featured.
Also they could reshow one of the previous trailers on geeked week as a bonus advertisement, but that’s about it.
However we still have the
Art book
French exclusive comic (that someone might make a fan translation)
BL manga by Tokyo pop
Depending on how well the BL might sell it might help it get a season two because it’s a BL manga made by Tokyo pop and it’s a BL based on a Netflix show that got rayman trending for 2-3 days on twitter.
So it might come down to those 3 books to help the show profit wise.
If they can’t get a season two (and I hope I’m not jinxing anything) they might continue the series via comic series
However I I have more faith in this show getting a season two since another show named shera also has similar beginnings as a queer reinterpretation of a beloved ip with a steady fanbase helmed by a major company dreamworks. It might be the same case for laserhawk since this is a queer reinterpretation of several ips that has a steady fanbase helmed by a major company Ubisoft.
Also the show is being made by the same guy behind the castelvania anime and the upcoming devil may cry series so Netflix’s favoritism of him should rub off on his passion project as well as the other big ones.
Overall I have hope in this show getting a season two tho I’m still staying on my toes since this is still Netflix.

I’m trying to pinpoint what makes adult nerds so reactive to change in their favorite franchise/intellectual property. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I read “the caped crusade: Batman and the rise of nerd culture”.
There’s a few different elements I’ve been chewing on primarily: entitlement, rejection from larger society and the creation of insular nerd communities, the desire to be taken seriously and not forgotten or left behind, nostalgia, sexism, and racism.
Being a Disney adult or adult toy collector or comics nerd aren’t inherently negative but I’ve been thinking a lot about adult nostalgia and entitlement to a franchise.
Like people gatekeep all kinds of media, particularly men, but to act as if you have a greater claim to an intellectual property than the target audience, I feel, is an indicator of insecurity. The specific feeling adults feel that they are no longer relevant to the spaces they used to inhabit.
Let’s take 2003 teen titans fans who hate ttg. Sure ttg isn’t great and Plenty of criticisms are warranted but the quality isn’t necessarily the target of the vitriol so much as a perceived disrespect of the tastes and values of a previous generation of fans. Same with thunder cats roar, the new Shera, be cool scooby doo etc.
when these properties change hands and change tone, often to be more humorous and episodic, the adult fans often feel an immediate sense of being left behind. An understandable sentiment for anyone but particularly impactful for someone whose identity is built around the franchise in question. Someone who aligns themself with the franchise and the way the franchise is widely understood.
In fact derision was the way a lot of early Batman fans reacted when Adam west Batman hit the scene. The show is widely loved now but to many Batman comics fans, Adam west Batman was goofy and lame and spat on their beloved shadow lurking ideal. It’s worth noting that this shadowy pulp Batman wasn’t even particularly consistent in the comics which were a little all over the place throughout the 50s but still. How was a comics Batman fan in 1966 supposed to say they were a Batman fan without being immediately associated with widely popular goofball Adam west?
From all this insecurity springs disdain for kids in nerd spaces, something particularly frustrating to me. I know adult disdain for kids is widespread but among nerds? Kids are the biggest nerds! If they love the thing you love, maybe adapted by a new set of creators, isn’t that something to celebrate? You want to be taken seriously fine, we should take all art forms seriously as something made with intent and care, but that doesn’t mean throwing the target audience under the bus. By insisting the thing you love isn’t “just for kids” you imply that the things made for children are less meaningful and less deserving of respect. You love something made with kids in mind! Isn’t that wonderful? Have some whimsy!
