my brother's best friend (pt 1)
pt 2 pt 3 pt 4
pairing: matt sturniolo x y/n
summary: over the years you find yourself falling more in love with your brother's best friend.
warnings: none yet
this is the first story I've ever written, so sorry if it's bad. anyway, hope you guys enjoy.
· · ─── ·𖥸· ─── · ·
(the first day i saw him)
"mom!" I ran down the stairs. "yeah, what do you need?" "where's Nate? he said he would go to the movies with me over an hour ago." I was beginning to get upset, Nate promised that he would take me to see Spider-Man Homecoming with him. "I'm not sure, he said he would be home by 5" she responded. I let out a heavy sigh before walking out of the kitchen.
I went into the living room and sat on the couch, aimlessly scrolling on my phone. I watched as the minutes on the clock slowly ticked by, my eyes flicking to the front door every few seconds. it had been 3 hours before Nate had finally showed up, laughing as he walked through the door. three boys followed close behind him.
"dude that movie was so good" Nate said as he kicked off his shoes. "yeah, I still can't believe the way Spider-Man saved the Avenger's plane" one of the other boys spoke. I coughed loudly drawing the attention of my brother and his friends in the entryway. making eye contact with Nate, his face flashing with realization. "oh shit, y/n I'm so sor-" Nate tried to speak, but I stood up abruptly off the couch walking to my room and slamming the door.
the second I closed the door I could feel my eyes watering. it was one thing for Nate to blow of our plans because his practice ran late or something, but for him to go without me even though we had planned this out ever since the trailer came out, hurt. especially since he went with three people I've never met instead.
I jumped onto my bed, burying my face into the pillows. I could hear four sets of footsteps approaching my bedroom before someone knocked on the door. I knew it was Nate because he used the secret knock combination we came up with in order to tell if it was each other or our parents knocking. "go away Nate" my voice was muffled by the pillow. Nate had opened the door anyway, "y/n look I'm sorry, I totally forgot that we were planning to go to the movies today" I turned to face him when he spoke "yeah, yeah whatever Nate."
I glanced around him, taking in the appearance of his friends, each looking similar, but I could tell the differences once I looked a little longer. I made eye contact with the boy who was standing behind them all, almost not visible. I blushed and turned my head away so none of them could see it. "you can go, you obviously want to hang out with these people more than me anyway." Nate gave me a sad expression before walking out of my room, closing the door behind him. as I listened to the sounds of footsteps furthering from my door I decided to read a book instead of wallowing around.
the next time I looked at the clock it read 12:37 am. I decided that I might as well call it a night and changed into my pajamas, which consisted of a tank top and a pair of women's boxers. assuming that Nate's friends had gone home by now, I didn't bother to put on something more presentable as I left my room to grab a glass of water.
when I walked into the kitchen I was met with three pairs of eyes on me, with Nate being in the bathroom. "oh, you guys are still here" I uttered as I went to grab a glass. ''yep, seems like it" the one with longer hair spoke. my back was to them as I filled up the cup with water from the fridge. once finished I turned around to face the three boys. "look I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, its just that Nate promised me he would take me to see that movie months ago. anyway I'm y/n." holding out my hand to them. The one with a nose ring takes it first "Nick" he shook my hand. "I'm Chris" the one with long hair spoke, dapping me up. "and you?" I turned to the last boy, realizing it's the one that I locked eyes with earlier. "Matt" he smiled slightly as he took my hand. my face flushed feeling the electricity buzzing through my fingertips.
"okay well nice to meet you guys, but I'm off to bed. tell Nate that I said he better take me to see that movie tomorrow, I don't care if he just watched it." "will do" Chris spoke, Matt and Nick nodded along. I headed back towards my room and closed the door, still thinking about the feeling of Matt's hand on mine. "well this is going to be a problem" I mumbled to myself before shutting off the light and snuggling under my covers.
· · ─── ·𖥸· ─── · ·
Nate had brought the triplets over again, many times over the next few years. each time my crush on Matt grew a little stronger. besides that I had actually gained a friendship with all of them.
· · ─── ·𖥸· ─── · ·
a/n: I'm probably going to move this story on pretty quickly I just wanted to get a little backstory out first.
let me know if there is anything I can do to write better, criticism is appreciated

The Marvels (2023)
Tumblr media
Not usually reviewing films but here we are. A friend of mine invited me to the cinema to see The Marvels. And so we did, two days ago.
Neither of us expected much. I haven't seen Ms. Marvel. I thought Captain Marvel was 'meh' and a bit bland. Not offensive in any way (if you discount the blatant milatary propaganda) but ultimately Just A Marvel ProductTM. And not even a fun one. At least not fun for me.
And no offence to Teyonah Parris, but her character was definitely the least interesting thing about WandaVision. That's not saying much, seeing as that miniseries was great and one of the best things Marvel did since Infinity War... But it just goes to say that this didn't seem that promising.
The trailer for it looked quite cool though.
My friend Marek, who was bitching to me about how bad Captain Marvel is for years now, invited me to see The Marvels with him in the cinema. Mostly as a joke. Although he did enjoy Ms. Marvel. But still, neither of us expected much.
To our surprise - The Marvels is really good and we both enjoyed ourselves a lot.
It's really, really good.
While I don't think it can stand shoulder to shoulder with stuff like The Suicide Squad, Across the Spider-verse or GotG Vol. 3, I still feel comfortable calling it one of the best superhero movies of this decade so far. It's easily the 2nd best MCU movie since Spider-man: Far From Home, imo. (admittedly, I haven't seen all of them, so take this hot take with a grain of salt... I just really enjoyed The Marvels)
So now I'm gonna do a wee bit of gushing about some of the reasons why it's so good. (spoilers bellow)
Tumblr media
Carol, Kamala, and Monica are just really fun to watch? Their interaction is amazing.
Kamala can be a bit cringey but in an authentically teenage way and I really enjoyed that! Her being a huge fan of Captain Marvel never stopped feeling real. Yeah, of course she's into RPF.
Consequences! I love when things in stories have consequences. And this is all built around consequences to the stuff Captain Marvel did. She did them with good intentions... But that didn't necessarily matter. And I love that. It adds a bit of complexity and nuance that's less and less common in superhero movies these days.
Which ties into... Carol not being perfect. She's amazing and powerful but she can't save everyone.
Carol is also... really fun? With a slight nudge she just became a really well-written, interesting protagonist? I love this version of Captain Marvel and I want more!!! Brie Larson finally gets to show off a bit as an actress!
She just really gave me Xena vibes, in the best possible way.
While the villain isn't an all-time great, the actress went for dignity and it payed off. She feels iconic and you understand where she's coming from.
Monica's sacrifice was quite powerful and kinda hit me.
The "training sequence" where Carol, Monica, and Kamala are practicing the switching is perfect. I love it. No notes.
I love that while it's only an indirect continuation of Captain Marvel, it takes the best bits from that film and builds on them. For me, Goose is the best bit of that film - a cat, but make it eldritch and alien, as well as bigger on the inside? Nice, love it. So what do we do with that idea the second time around? MORE CATS!!! I got a bit excited when I saw the kittens in the trailer and they did not disappoint. (Can the next movie be set on their planet? Please?)
But it's not just "there are kittens now" though. THE KITTENS ARE INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT. It's not just there to be there, but it's an important plot point. And it's so fun!
Nick Fury is also fun.
But it's not just taking what worked and expanding on it. This movie got really creative!
For example - the worlds! Especially the Bollywood planet. Great stuff.
Tumblr media
That's just some of the reasons to like this film. I'm probably gonna watch it again when it's on Disney+
If you haven't seen it yet, go do that it if it's still playing in a cinema near you. It's definitely worth a watch if you are in the mood for a fun, well-made superhero film.
I'm really looking forward to what Nia DaCosta does next. This film really didn't deserve to underperform and I hope she gets another stab at a big blockbuster like this in the future.

Tumblr media
You had just gotten off work. The time read close to midnight. To make things worse, you were the one who had to close up. You were also the idiot who forgot to check the forecast and had no umbrella.
You pocketed your keys and looked up at the night sky. Droplets from the sky came to rain down on your face. You blinked away the droplets wrapping yourself with your jacket to try and create any sort of warmth. There wasn’t much luck though. You sighed and started making your way down the sidewalk. You usually had your nana pick you up, but being the sweetest person ever much to your nanas amusement. You opted to make the walk home.
The idea was to try. You knew how shady New York at night could get. Everyone mostly did, that’s why they walked in pairs. Not alone like you were stupid enough to do.
You felt your heart pick up at the sound of footsteps behind you. You really hadn’t made it very far from the shop, but even then you weren’t close to your apartment complex. As the footsteps sped up, so did yours. You had keyed your keys in your fist. Hoping that would be good enough of a weapon to defend yourself with. Your breathing became labored. Your chest rose and fell.
You yelped feeling a hand yank you back harshly. You cried out for help as you were being dragged into a dark alley. The grip on your forearm swung you around so hard you groaned as your back hit the brick wall behind you. You gasped as pain shot up your whole entire back. The back of your head was throbbing. You closed your eyes as your captor got up into your personal space. You turned your head away as he took a long deep inhale of your scent.
“My my you smell sweet.” You squirmed under his touch. He pressed his nose closer to your neck. “That vanilla? Huh? A sweet girl like you shouldn’t be all alone. Glad I found you when I did huh.” He chuckled as tears fell down your cheek. “Why don’t we head over back to mine.” His hands started to wander.
“No, no, no.” You tried pushing him away, but the tall man overpowered you.
“Come on, let me warm you up…” Just as he was gonna touch you. You shook your head. Cries of protest leaving your lips.
“She said no!” Another voice had joined you.
The man’s arm was yanked back. The man’s whole body was flung backwards into the wall across you. You flinched once you saw him collide with the wall. Knocking him totally unconscious. You started hyperventilating. Your breathing was labored. Was this a panic attack?
You didn’t know…
You were about to step forward when a figure landed in front of you. His back turned to you.
Holy shit! Freaking Spider-Man was standing in front of you. Spider-Man just saved you. He tilted his head staring at the man coming to.
“What the hell-” The man’s words were muffled by a web being placed over his mouth.
Spider-Man put a hand up to his covered ear. “I’m sorry- what, what was that?”
He chuckled at his own joke as he covered the dude up in more webs. The only thing visible was the man’s eyes. His eyes were practically popping out of his sockets. “Cat got your tongue?” Spider-Man cooed at the guy crouching in front of him. “Don’t worry the webs will dissolve in time for you to give your statement to the cops.”
Spider-Man shook his head. Another day, and further disappointment in men like him roaming free around New York.
He played it cool, wiping his gloves together for a job well done. He was about to do a victory dance when he turned his back to the man but stumbled over his feet. He met your shocked eyes. You were still pressed against the adjacent wall. Only this time you curled into yourself. One hand holding onto your right forearm. Your lips trembled under his gaze.
Peter’s heart thudded against his chest seeing your innocent state. You were just a teenager. Like him…He tilted his head stepping forward with his hands out in front of him. You took this as him silently saying he meant you no harm. You couldn’t have felt more safe standing before him, to be honest. One of the street lights shining down on the two of you illuminated a bit of your face. He was finally able to see you. Your eyes shined, like two diamonds. Two comets? Two stars. No, maybe they shined like two…
“You’re Spider-Man.” You breathed out. Stunned as he stood not more than three feet from you. “And you saved me…”
“It was nothing.” He shrugged. He was thankful for his mask because talking to pretty girls wasn’t exactly his forte. To make him even more nervous, he immediately knew who you were. You were Y/n Y/l/n. You sat behind him in English. You always forgot to bring a pen and each time Peter would turn around and offer you his only one. The teacher would then give him one. Helping out the poor boy during his heroic act. It had become a common thing for you two that he had May buy him a whole pack just to be able to give you one.
“N-Not to me. Thank you.” You were so sincere about it. Not a lot of people thanked him, so this warmed his heart. There was so much adrenaline rushing through you, all the energy flowing through you overcame how cold you were feeling. “H-Holy shit. You- You have no idea how big of a fan I am. M-My nana and I love you.” You exclaimed. God, you were fangirling. “T-Thank you, for saving me, for saving everyone. I-I think people are too harsh on their opinions of you.”
“I um…” What did he say to that? “That’s very kind of you miss…”
“Oh um, Y/n. I-I’m Y/n.” You shivered as more rain picked up. Your hair was drenched in water. Your hair and clothes were stuck to your skin.
“Spider-Man.” He offered his hand and you stared at it for a second, before shaking it.
“Is um…is he gonna-” You gestured to the webbed man before you two. Peter spared him a glance then turned back to you.
“Don’t worry. He’s not going anywhere.” You nodded, taking his word. You looked up at the night sky, blinking away the rain that fell against your eyelids. Peter noticed how cold you were. “W-Why don’t we get you home yeah?”
“Yeah.” You agreed and walked out the alley with him.
“You don’t mind me swinging you home right?”
“Is it scary?” You grew uneasy.
“No, unless you fall…” He shrugged but panicked seeing your eyes widen. “N-Not that’d I’d let you fall.” He chuckled nervously. He mentally slapped his forehead. Shut up, Peter!
“Just hold on tight to me okay.” You wrapped your arms around his neck and brought your legs around his waist as he bent down. Before he shot a web out he turned to you. You looked at his white eyes that were narrowing at you. “W-Where do you live?”
-
You didn’t think being friends of Spider-Man had almost resulted in you, Ned, and MJ practically falling to your deaths. Your death was closer to happening than theirs had been. They were saved while your bones were three inches away from shattering. Peter had barely caught you in time. In the midst of panicking you had asked him how much space was between you and the ground. He had told you three inches. 3 had come to be your lucky number. However, you considered it the number that determined how close you were to die. You remember the first time. You had been three minutes late to work, and sooner or any later you could have been the target of a bullet. There had been a robber at work who had shot a co-worker you knew. Had you been there when it happened you would have been at the cashier staring down a gun the second time it happened. You were three minutes too early to meet up with Peter. You were standing on the sidewalk outside Mr. Delmar’s store. Not even a few minutes later a block away from where you waited for him, there was a pile-up caused by some bad guys that Peter didn’t go into much detail about. You were quiet for the rest of the day you spent with him. A car had collided with the building you quickly stopped in front of to tie your shoes, then jogged the rest of the way to the store. You always considered it a coincidence, but that had been the second time already.
Third times the charms, right?
After having cured the villains, Peter was left feeling like Spider-Man was a burden to the lives of everyone he loved. He lost May in the process because of Spider-Man, and now there was about to be a multiverse outbreak.
Nothing good comes from people knowing I’m Spider-Man. He told you.
During some serious conversation, he argued that if he could, he’d take it back. If he could go back to when you all didn’t know he was Spider-Man he would take the chance. You, Ned and MJ, clearly thought he was joking and he’d get over it because, in the end, you had each other’s backs. His burdens were yours too. You didn’t allow him to hurt alone.
So it was really confusing what he just told you.
“Y-You’re gonna forget who I am.”
“What?” You exclaimed, turning to him. Peter flinched seeing you upset.
“What?” Ned shook his head.
“Peter what, what are you talking about?” MJ muttered.
He stared at you three for a second. Taking in his three best friends. “It’s okay.” He nodded. “I’m gonna come and find you, and I’ll explain everything. I’ll make you remember me.” He looked at MJ. “I’ll make sure you remember. It’ll be like none of this ever happened, okay?” He looked to Ned, then to you.
“Okay, but what if that doesn’t work?” MJ started panicking. "W-W-What if that doesn’t work? W-What if we can’t remember you? I don’t want to do that. I-I don’t want to do that-”
“-I know MJ, I know-” Peter tried calming her down.
“It’s not something we can do. W-We can’t come up with a plan or something.” She looked at you and Ned. “There’s always something we can do.”
Peter shook his head no. “There’s nothing we can do…” He breathed out. “It’ll be okay.” MJ teared up. She usually didn’t let her emotions show, but this got to her.
“Promise?” Ned looked up at him.
Peter looked at him with glistened eyes. “I-I promise.” He pulled him in to do their handshake. You let tears fall down your eyes as you held your right arm with your left. Your back was turned to them. Peter caught sight of you and called out your name.
“Y/n.” He stepped closer to you.
“P-Please tell me you’re not actually considering this…” You gaped at him. “I know with May…dying. T-That wasn’t your fault— Peter you’re grieving, we all are. Please just think this through.” You shrunk in on yourself.
“There’s nothing else we can do, Y/n.” He clenched his jaw. He sighed looking at your eyes. “It’s okay…”
“So if he does this- what? Peter, you clearly didn’t think this through.“ Your heart sank. Your heart started picking up and you felt the need to rub your sweaty hands down your jeans. “We’re not gonna remember who Peter Parker is? But then that means…if you do this— then we’ll forget you’re Spider-Man too. I’ll end up forgetting MJ and Ned too because of that…” Your voice was mouse-like. Your eyes widened at the thought. “I-I don’t wanna forget you guys!” You shook your head.
Peter felt his heart sink. “No, Y/n you guys will all still stay friends. You’ll still have MJ and Ned, you just won’t remember anything about me.”
“Peter…” You looked at him solemnly. “I-I won’t… I won’t remember them.” Your tight-lipped smile made him come to his senses a bit more. “If I end up forgetting you. Then I won’t remember meeting them. You were the one who introduced us, remember?” His furrowed eyebrows loosened slowly as a frown made its way onto his face. You smiled a little, tucking your upper lip into your mouth. You nodded as the realization finally dawned on him. “Yeah…” You sighed heavily. You closed your eyes as a tear slipped down.
“Wait…no.” Peter started shaking his head no. “No no, wait that’s not-“ He was starting to panic. You held him still trying to gain his attention back. “No, that’s not how it’s supposed to go. You’re still supposed to remember them.” You smiled sadly at them. You shook your head, trying to ease his mind.
“I-I was never friends with Michelle Jones or Ned Leeds in high school until Peter Parker came into my life.” The sad reality pained him. “Finding out you were Spider-Man made that possible. It’s what made me part of your group. Yet I think you only kept me around to make sure I didn’t say anything.” You laughed nervously.
“No Y/n that’s not-“ You stopped him with your hand out.
“-I only knew who you were, just didn’t know anything about you really.” You laughed half-heartedly. Yet it sounded more broken than a laugh. Peter wasn’t laughing though. “Did you know you guys were my first real friends?” Your eyes glistened more. You didn’t feel like bringing up your past, but therapists typically say to talk about your feelings right? If you were gonna end up alone again, then talking about it at least once was good enough, right?
“First, no that can’t be tru-“ Peter scoffed. You never told him this. “I’m sure you’ve had lots of friends before us.”
“You were.” You swallow back some tears. “I used to…I used to sit alone every day at lunch.” You shrugged. “I was never really good at making friends since I can remember. I have a lot of social anxiety so I have to summon up double the courage to talk to someone or go up to someone.” You fidgeted with your bracelet on your wrist, you didn’t have your anxiety toy with you, but Peter noticed and offered up his right hand so you could trace the lines on his glove. That always calmed you down. “I-I couldn’t do it because I didn’t want people to think that I was weirder. I was already branded as the quiet girl who had no friends…why give everyone another reason to make up assumptions about me.”
“I didn’t know…” Peter didn’t really know what to say at all.
“Cause I never told you until now.” You smirked slightly. You couldn’t hold your walls up for much longer. It was crumbling down. “I’m going to be that person I tried so hard to push down again. I’m gonna be alone.” You laughed, but your shoulders shook, you were breaking down. “I-I know you’re just trying to look out for the rest of us. Being friends of Spider-Man comes with risks…I knew that.” You looked at him nodding. “I knew that…yet I was still willing to deal with this side of your life, ‘cause you’re my best friend Peter.” You took a deep breath. “And I love you.” You looked down at your hands. Rubbing the back of your right hand against the palm of your left one. Peter learned to realize this was when your anxiety would start to build up. “Can you umm…” You smiled up at him, your eyes getting misty. “Can I um- finally put in a favor for once.” You smiled up at him bashfully.
“You know I’d do anything for you.” Peter nodded. At times, he was the one always asking for favors, and it was always either you or Ned, even MJ at times, covering for him. Most people would say you did so much for him only to receive so little back, but you would brush those thoughts away because— well because you loved him. Sometimes the dynamic of only being friends crushed you since he ended up with MJ, and he didn’t like you back. So if you weren’t gonna remember him or the way you felt about him you were gonna ask him to do you this one solid.
“I-I know, but since everything will go back to the way things were. I just thought now is as good of a time as any to ask something of you.”
“What is it?”
You sniffled as you tried holding yourself together. “Can you um…can you help make sure I have at least one friend.” You smiled at him. Yet Peter tilted his head at your request. His puppy dog eyes shined, and his heart thudded loudly against his eardrums. Just hearing you even say such a thing pained him. “I don’t care if you even do it in secret. I would just like one friend. It wouldn’t matter to me who it was, if it was Ned and MJ, then all the better. I’d just like to have someone to call a friend. Someone to talk to and hang out with.” You shrugged. You closed your eyes. God, you felt pathetic asking for such a thing. You felt arms enclose around you, your head falling into their chest. Peter held you close.
“I-I promise.” He nodded. “I promise.” You cried gently in his arms. Nodding okay to let him know you heard him. “You won’t be alone, Y/n.”
You let him go. "I have to go, okay?” He held your shoulder gripping it tightly.
“Peter.” Doctor Strange called out to him from above. You both pulled away. Smiling at each other. He had turned his head to MJ. You watched the aching moment between them. He let you go by the arm and went to her. The two shared a sweet moment and a rough kiss as their last goodbye. Then he and Ned hugged it out one more time. Your leg kept tapping on the ground. What the hell were you about to do? Peter pulled away from her, perching himself on the edge, getting ready to swing off.
Don’t do it, Y/n. Don’t be that asshole.
You kept repeating to yourself. Oh god!
You closed your eyes and blurted out the one thing you’ve been wanting to say to Peter for so long.
“I’ve been in love with you for two years and I didn’t say anything about it because I was too scared of getting rejected by you…” You trailed off as MJ turned her head to look at you. Ned gasped at you.  “I-I’m sorry.” You closed your eyes regretting the words that slipped out of your mouth. "I’m so sorry, MJ.” You looked at her with guilt-ridden eyes. She had no words to say, which was unlike her.
“W-What?” Peter stared at you in shock trying to process what you just said.
“I knew it!” Ned exclaimed pointing at you. “I fucking knew it!”
Your anxiety began rising. You were not that great at confronting things, and you were not about to start now.
“Wait a second!” Peter jumped down from the wall. He looked up at Doctor Strange. He started walking forward, but you were not about to let him stop him. The last time he intervened he caused a multiverse outbreak.
I think the fuck not.
You threw yourself forward to the ground and hugged his leg from behind. You knew he was stronger but you held on for dear life.
“Y/n let me go!” He struggled a bit in your hold, yet at the same time, he was trying not to hurt you.
“NO!” You shouted over the noise.
“Y/n let me go, please!” Peter pleaded. You pressed your head against the back of his calve. You shook your head no. He stopped squirming then shoved you back with his foot. The force made you fall on your back. Your head collided with the cement first causing you to groan and gasp. Peter stopped and stared at you. A guilty expression fell on his face. You groaned holding your head. You pulled back your hand and stared hazily at the red splotch dotting your palm and fingertips. You were bleeding. You slowly looked up and stared up at him in disbelief.
Doctor Strange was just about done casting the spell when Peter was just about to reach forward, but you stopped him.
“Peter!” He stopped and turned back to you. His face was scrunched in pain. He looked at you upset. He was hurt by your sudden confession. You smiled, wanting his last memory of you to be a happy one. “Do me that favor for me, okay?” You nodded reassuring him. Nodding as if to say you forgave him. “I-I know you’ll do the right thing.”
“Y/n, I can’t believe you!“ Peter stepped closer to you then felt the air shift all around him. He grunted in annoyance. Then looked back to MJ, then to Ned. He spared you one last look before he turned around and shot a web out. He left. You looked at MJ, Ned, and Doctor Strange standing. MJ’s eyes were the last thing you saw, but her voice was the last thing you heard.
“He had to find out sooner or later.” She smiled at you sadly, nodding at you to reassure you that she wasn’t mad.
Then it went dark.
-
Everything felt different after the fight. James Jonah Jameson was still his usual self. Hating on the red spandex masked hero. Calling him a coward for not revealing his identity.
You woke up quite early for someone who did not do mornings. You had gotten a whiff of your nana’s famous blueberry pancakes, which immediately woke you up. You got ready and were now standing behind the couch watching Jameson go off about Spider-Man.
You scoffed at the television shaking your head at the news reporter.
“I swear this man has nothing better to do with his life.” You rolled your eyes as you walked into the little kitchen in your apartment. You grabbed a cut-up strawberry and plopped it into your mouth. You hopped onto the counter next to where your nana was putting more batter into the pan.
“Who?”
“Jameson. Like why though? Why hate someone who is only trying to look out for us, ya know.” You nod to the tv.
“One or two?” Your nana asked as she poured more batter.
“Three please.” You gave a cheesy smile. You mouthed more strawberries from the yellow bowl next to you. “I have a theory?” You said with sureness.
“Which is?” She eyed you.
“I think he hates him so much because Spider-Man doesn’t act upon the laws.”
“Oh yeah?” She laughed.
“Oh yeah!” You were sure of yourself. “I mean that man has so much hate to give out. Like menace? Really?” You squint your eyes at the thought. “Getting a cat out of a tree, and stopping a bus with his bare hands, saving everyone in it? Yeah real threatening there, Jonah!” You yelled at the screen from where you sat.
“Who’s giving out hate, now?” She teased you.
“Ugh, me.” You let your head hit the cabinet door behind you.
You blew a raspberry, staring blankly at the wall in front of you. Without having to see, you took the plate your nana held out for you. It was a reflex. You hopped down and made your way to the little round table made for two. You waited for your nana to sit before you started decorating the fluffy circles in front of you. Your tongue was slightly poking out as you drowned your pancakes in syrup.
“You might need to go buy some more.” You smiled over at her sheepishly.
“S-Sorry.” You giggled.
“Any news from MIT yet?” She had been referring to the letter you never got. It hadn’t come in the mail yet.
“No.” You sighed forking a triangle.
“I’m sure it will get here any day now.” She gripped your chin lovingly. “Don’t expect disappointment so soon dear. Letters always get lost in the mail.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right.” You agreed.
“I am.”
“Well…I mean there was that one time you were-” You cut yourself off feeling her stare of rath.
“That one time I what?”
“N-Nothing.” You sunk down in your seat, avoiding her glare.
“Eat your pancakes.” She swatted you playfully.
“Yes ma'am!” You bit your lip to keep you from laughing.
-
Work later that night had been slow. Slow since it was a small donut and coffee shop. Not many people were here during the night, which you enjoyed if you were being honest. You and your book were always somewhere in a corner, every chance you had. It was quiet, it was calming. You felt at peace here and you-
“Flannel’s back…” MJ gave you a knowing smile. You lifted your head from the book. Which almost slipped out of your hand, now being placed down. You also noticed Ned coming in behind him too. You waved at him. You shushed her, watching her grab Ned a glazed donut and setting it down in front of him. She stayed on the other side, letting you walk over to greet Mr. Flannel himself. You stuffed your hands in your apron and walked over to the cash register.
“H-Hi what can I get for you today?” You breathed out, feeling nervous under his brown eyes.
Peter bit his lip looking up at the menu board behind you to prevent himself from losing his cool. Then his eyes fell on you.
“H-Hi I’m Peter Parker, and I…” You sheepishly smiled at his introduction. So flannel had a name now? You thought. You looked down at the paper in his hand wondering what that was.
You nodded, your eyebrows rising as you waited in anticipation for his order.
“-Would like a coffee, please.” He breathed out.
“Sure thing…Peter Parker.” You giggled. You turned around and grabbed one of the cups to start making him a coffee. You hummed a tune you heard early, which was now embedded into your head until something else occupied it. The coffee didn’t take more than a few minutes to get ready for him. You placed the lid on the cup and turned around to set it down on the counter next to the cash register. You looked up to see him staring to the left. You followed his eyes, which fell on MJ, and Ned. There was a look on his face you couldn’t quite place. “Peter Parker.” You called out. He didn’t respond so you tried again. “Coffee for Peter Parker…”
“What?” He turned to face you.
“Y-Your coffee is ready.” You bit your lip.
“Right, thank you.” He paused then started a conversation with you. “Excited for college?”
“What?” Now you were caught off guard.
“Heard your friends talking…” He nodded over to Ned and MJ.
“Oh! Right, um, guess so. I’m still waiting on my letter to get here. It probably got lost in the mail or something.” You brushed it off lamely. “M-My nana says to stay positive.” You chuckled nervously.
“Well, she sounds like a wise woman. Besides…” He remembered what your nana always told them. He just wanted to test it out with you. “Don’t expect disappointment so soon…”
You smiled at him, thinking it was a coincidence. “My nana always says that…” You furrowed your brows at him.
“See! A wise woman.” He joked which got you to laugh out loud.
“Can I get you anything else?” You smiled at him.
You both stared at each other. Your eyebrows furrowed seeing his eyes tear up. Peter gave a thin smile. Pocketing his letter in his back pocket.
“No.” He smiled.
“Then, that’ll be 1.50.” You muttered. You were lifting yourself up and down on your toes. Nervous habits.
“Right…” He pulled out his wallet. He pulled out a five and handed it over to you. “Um, keep the change.” He gestured to the five he had.
“It’s 3.50 back though?”
“It’s okay.” He reassured you.
“Okay.”
He just kept staring at you, almost like- like you were gonna disappear or something. He looked happy though.
“Thank you.”
“Yeah, no problem.” You waved it off.
“I’ll see you around.” He nodded at you and turned to look at Ned and MJ, then pushed the door out. What the hell was that?
“Man, I really thought he’d ask you out.“ You whipped your head around to see MJ come closer to you. "He comes in here twice a week, ya know. Trust me he’s not that happy when it’s only me and Josh.”
“Really?” Hope grew in your eyes.
“He’s only here when you are if you haven’t noticed.” MJ gave you a small smile.
"Not until now.” You looked down then to the front entrance. You sighed, feeling lost, yet at the same time confused. This has been going on for months now. He’d come in, order something different each time, but why would he give you his name now. You shook your head, hearing your boss complain about something else that inconvenienced him. You groaned and headed to the back to see what he wanted. You wanted nothing more than this shift to hurry on, but alas it dragged on and on and on until you were left having to close up. Ned and MJ wanted to wait up on you to head out together but you wanted to be…alone.
“You sure you don’t want a ride.”
“Umm nah…” You waved her and Ned off. He offered to walk you guys home. “You guys go ahead. I still need to put some of the dishes in the sink so…”
“Sure?” She eyed you.
“Yeah, I’ll be okay. I don’t live that far.”
Liar
“Okay, but we still expect to see you at the movies this weekend.” She pointed at you. You smiled and nodded at the two.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
“See you Saturday Y/n. Get home safe, yeah?” Ned waved at you.
“Will do.” You waved them off as they walked out the front door of the coffee shop. You sighed as you looked around the shop. There was one table left and you had to clean and put away dishes. You blew a raspberry and grabbed the rag you set down.
-
You locked up behind you. You looked up and watched as the snow fell down from the sky. You put your gloves on and rubbed your hands together to keep them warm. You didn’t mind the walk home, especially in the snow. But standing outside the shop. Glancing left and right at the darkened streets, you regretted not agreeing to MJ and Ned offering you a ride home. You wrapped your arms around you tighter so you wouldn’t freeze like a popsicle on your way home. You were comfortably layered up but even then the air around you felt like ice on your skin. You held your bag against your hip with each step you took. You knew you should have brought your headphones to keep your mind occupied. Not like it’d help, your mind was already crowded with thoughts on a certain brunette. You smiled as an image of him filled your head. His boyish smile and stutter were hard to forget. MJ teased you about it. The one jab she tried at you was that he must’ve had a tooth cavity by now since he came in twice a week. Just to see your lovely face as she and Josh put it. Your self-awareness was clouded by him because you were too distracted to hear the approaching footsteps coming up quickly behind you. You yelped as a hand pressed down on your left shoulder. You whirled around but stumbled back as something heavy collided with your temple. You held your head as the world started spinning around you. The man took his chance to grab you and drag you over to the dark alley. You had fallen to the ground struggling to stand as you felt hands start to roam your body. Your strength was nowhere to be found as you cried out. You whimpered as he hovered over your squirming body.
“S-Stop!” You cried as his hands found the top of your zipper. The sound of it trailing down your chest had you crying out for help even louder. “Please help!” You cried out. You turned your head away feeling his breath on you. “No, no, please.”
He leaned in closer to your neck and inhaled you. What a disgusting pig he was. “Mmm, that peach-scented?” He smirked down at you. “Shh baby, once I’m done with you, you’ll be-” A blur of a red hand landed on the man’s left shoulder. He was yanked back and tossed up against a wall.
“Seriously?…. You don’t learn, do you!” Peter scoffed. The man tried punching him, but Peter caught his fist, twisting it enough to cause pain, but not enough to break his wrist. “When a woman says no, you stop and respect that!” He tossed the man onto the floor. Towering over the now scared man. He grabbed him by the collar and held him up against the brick wall. The man’s feet dangled above the ground. “She said no…” Peter’s voice was stern and growled at him. “Clearly you have a problem learning from your past mistakes, so now I’m gonna have to make sure you stay put in jail, and rot.”
“No, no, please.” The man now begged him pathetically. Peter scoffed and let him go. He fell to the ground and that’s when Peter webbed him up like the last time. Yet he overdid it, webbing him up extra well this time. He turned around hearing your heartbeat slow down. He stared down at you holding your head. You were bleeding. You stared up at him in awe.
This was like deja vu. Only he knew he wasn’t dreaming because he recalled the memory of you on the ground staring up at him every time. It replayed in his head over and over like a broken record.
I’m gonna forget you.
I’ve been in love with you for two years.
I was too scared of getting rejected by you…
My first real friends
I’m gonna be alone.
And I love you…
Your eyes grew big. Peter shook his thoughts out of his head as he came back to his senses. It was cold and snowing and you were hurt. He could not believe you were in the exact same position when he had first met you. He almost laughed at the irony because here he was, with you, in the exact same alley, the same situation, with the same asshole who tried to assault you. Twice now, might he add! And you were meeting him again, for the first time. As Spider-Man. However this time it was fucking snowing.
“Miss…” You held your head as the voice felt distant. “Miss, are you okay? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?” Peter was seriously panicking hovering over you. You weren’t responding. He scanned over you twice and felt hopeless without any use of technology to let him know if you were hurt anywhere else. He didn’t need technology to see the obvious cut on your temple. “M-Miss?”
You were finally able to focus your vision on the red figure before you. You groaned as you stopped feeling woozy. You blinked a few times before you eased Peter’s nerves. “Y-You’re Spider— Spider-Man.” You breathed out. The snow falling made it feel like some rom-com cliche, but he was there. Right in front of you. All…heroic? No, he seemed shaken, but why would he be shaken…?
“Y-Yup. That’s me…I am Spider-Man. Not Spider-boy or bug boy. Spider-Man, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.” He mentally slapped himself. “Oh my god…” He turned his head away from you and muttered under his breath. God, he was a mess, he hadn’t talked to you in so long, well he wouldn’t say so long since he talked to you as Peter a few times. Peter had a crush- he had a crush on you. Yet he was trying hard not to. Since the whole reason, he wanted everyone to forget about him was so that you, MJ, and Ned could be safe. It hurt enough that May was gone. Yet here he was- talking to you, practically putting you at risk. Though it seems you were already at risk without him.
He forgot you were there for a second before snapping back. He remembered being a dork in front of MJ, but this was some top-tier second-hand embarrassment…not that you were noticing anyway. To which he was slightly grateful for, but not entirely.
“Am I dead?” You groaned, your head was pounding. You had a massive migraine pounding against your skull.
“Yeah okay.” He replied quickly. You clearly hit your head. He shuffled forward and helped you onto your feet, much to your refusal. You wobbled once you got on your feet, but Peter was quick to steady you. You found your bearings and held his arms to remain still. You let your eyes travel up to the white eyes narrowed before you. Your eyes widened at the sight of the hero. The snow wasn’t helping. What kind of savior cliche was this? You thought this stuff only happened in the movies. Your mouth opened and closed. You looked like a damn fish out of water.
The woman was too stunned to speak.
“Are you sure you don’t need me to take you to the hospital?” Peter asked again. Creases appeared on his forehead from how much he scrunched his face. He just wanted to make sure you weren’t…bleeding internally or something. He gave you a once-over and considered it enough to calm his nerves down.
“You’re Spider-Man.” You gawked at him like the dumbass you were. If the word starstruck had a face, it’d be the look you were giving the poor guy.
Peter blushed mad red under his mask. “Y-You said that already.” He let out a breathy laugh.
“Sorry.” You nervously laughed. “S-Sorry.” You felt your cheeks heat up. You avoided his gaze then looked back up. Your palms felt clamming under the eyes of the hero before you. “S-Sorry.”
“Said that already too…” He laughed.
“Right….um thank you, for saving me.” You nodded. You were starting to get cold as the snow fell down over you two. “Really, thank you. I don’t know how to repay you.”
This was always like you. Making yourself available to do others favors. He sometimes wished you’d be selfish and go on with your day. Yet your kindness was what brought out the best of yourself. A side he hadn’t seen since Doctor Strange wiped everyone’s memories.
“How about letting me swing you home? That way I know you won’t go bumping that head of yours again…” He trailed his hand up to the side of your head and caressed around the cut. You inhaled quietly, his touch felt…familiar. Peter dropped his hand, cursing at himself for doing that. Yet that wasn’t what caught your attention, it was his choice of wording.
Again? When did you bump your head before? This would have been the first. Or were you reading too much into the word because you were flabbergasted by the hot hero before you?
You found it odd but shrugged it off.
“I-I’d like that, t-thank you.” You nodded, appreciating his offer. He held his hand out for you, which you took gratefully. You wrapped your head around his neck and wrapped your legs around his waist. You wouldn’t remember asking him if it was scary the first time he did this, but he did. He remembered it all and it was hard on him not to take off immediately because he had to remind himself you didn’t know him, and he wasn’t supposed to know you, nor where you lived. So he had to ask you again. “W-Where do you live?”
“Oh um, just start um swinging, I’ll direct you.”
-
“HERE!” You yelped as he almost dropped you. You both slowly lowered onto the pavement before your apartment complex. Peter’s feet hit the ground as he let go of the web. You were still clinging onto him for dear life. He chuckled at this.
“You can- you can let go now.”
“Oh!” You unraveled yourself and stood before him. You bashfully looked away, trying to fix your composure. Peter found this whole thing amusing, and possibly the best thing that had happened to him today.
“Fun?” Peter teased, tilting his head, his eyes narrowing at you behind the mask Yet you could hear the laughter in his voice.
“T-That’s one word to put swinging around New York for the first time…” You inhaled and exhaled.
It wasn’t the first time though.
“T-Thank you for the ride? Uh swing?” You laughed not knowing what to call it. “I appreciated it.”
“Just happy to help.” He shrugged. You now narrowed your eyes at him. He brushed it off so easily, but he was a hero. He saved you.
“Why do I get the feeling you don’t hear those two words very often?”
He sighed looking up, then sideways, then at you again. “C-Cause I don’t…but it’s okay-”
“-Well I think people should thank you more.” You shrugged like he did. “That could have gone way worse, if you hadn’t stepped in, so thank you.”
“Y-You’re welcome y-” He caught himself. “Um miss.” He substituted for your name. You smiled at him.
“Y/n.”
“What?” He tensed up.
“That’s my name…thought you’d like to know.” You bit your lip as you directed your eyes down to your boots.
“Y-Y/n…” He muttered quietly, but you heard him.
“And you’re-” He felt his heart thud loudly in his ears. “-Spider-Man.” You smiled.
“Y-Yeah.” He sighed in relief.
“You do have a name though right?”
“Mhmm.” He curled his lip in. He crossed his arms. You admired the work he put in his muscles to stay fit for the job? Hero-ing?
He was so smug about it too.
You tried, he’d give you that.
His silence made you laugh. You looked off to watch the snow fall. “No?” You shook your head. “It’s okay, I get it, secret identity and all…” You purse your lips and put out your hands in surrender. “I fell into that one huh? Can’t say I didn’t try…” You looked back to see him already looking at you. You extended your arm out. You smirked, raising a brow at him. “It’s nice to meet you…Spider-Man.” He stared at your hand. His heart clenched thinking back to that particular day. “It’s just a handshake. I don’t bite.” You giggled.
“I um…” What did he say to that? “That’s very kind of you miss…”
“Oh um, Y/n. I-I’m Y/n.” You shivered as more rain picked up. Your hair was practically drenched in water. Your hair and clothes were stuck to your skin.
“Spider-Man.” He offered his hand and you stared at it for a second, before shaking it.
He thanked his mask for hiding the fact that he was tearing up. He licked his salty lips and firmly shook your hand. “Sorry um…I-It’s nice to meet you too…Y/n.” You could imagine him smirking.
“I-I guess this is the part where we go our separate ways…” You laughed nervously. You looked away. The front steps of your building, taunting you. You didn’t know what it was. Spider-Man was— easy to talk to. You felt comfortable in his presence. That made saying goodbye really hard because you wanted to continue talking to him.
“I guess so…” He nodded, fiddling with his hands. The back of his right hand rubbed against the palm of his left.
You noticed him do this which made you shiver. You knew that nervous tick all too well.
“Huh? I-I do that too…”
“Mmm?” He looked up.
“Anxiety?” You said it like it was such a regular thing, then again he almost forgot that you struggled from it too.
“Y-Yeah it started a month ago.” He admitted. He hadn’t told anyone that.
You nodded. You didn’t tease him or make a joke. You only listened.
“Being Spider-Man is hard sometimes. I don’t have anyone to talk to about this, so everything gets bottled up and sometimes I just want to-”
“-Scream, explode.” He looked up, he nodded at your words. “I get it.” He never knew how much you had been going through before, but standing now in front of you, this broken, yearning for a friend version of himself. He got it. He got it now, and his heart broke for you because of your fear of being alone which was now understandable. He was living the fear he worked so hard these past months to make sure you weren’t.
You both stood comfortably in silence. You felt for the vigilante. This whole life of his had to be hard to manage. You couldn’t imagine what he was going through. You were about to let the conversation go right then and there when you remembered the little fidget cube in your pocket you were currently toying with. Realization dawned on you as you pulled it out. It rested on your open palm. You looked up seeing Spider-Man fidget with his hands. You moved without hesitating and stood before him. Peter sensed you coming closer. You smiled and slightly moved your open palm to him.
“What’s this?” He knew what this was. He remembered giving it to you on your birthday. You cried that day. Peter knew how much you cherished it, and the day Doctor Strange cast the spell you had lost the cube. You had found this one you were holding out to him one day in your locker. No, note, no idea where it came from, and you cherished it. He just couldn’t believe you were giving this to him. For a second it hurt cause it felt like in a sense you were giving it back, but your intentions were nothing but pure and innocent.
“Whenever my anxiety or nerves become too much to handle. I play with this cube to help calm me down. It’s helped me more than I can explain…and I-I want to give it to you. T-To calm you down when you feel like you need to scream. Or if the world becomes too much for you to handle too.”
If he was crying then he was crying even more now.
“Y-You sure?” His voice cracked.
You nodded immediately. “I’m sure. Besides I might get another one in my locker so it’s all good.” You giggled.
“Another?” He asked because he wanted to keep hearing you talk. He liked talking to you when he could.
“Yeah, I found this one in my locker, then I found a pack of pens too which was strange” You scrunch your face. You were still confused about how those got in there, and who put them in there. “It was…unexpected to say the least, but I appreciated the gesture. It was cute.” You looked down, your cheeks heating up.
Peter beamed happily at you. He now knew how appreciative you were of the little gifts he left you. He now had to make a note of getting you another fidget cube because you would not survive the day without something to ease your mind.
He was happy, yet his alter ego couldn’t help but tease you.
“Sounds like someone has a crush on you…” He shrugged. “Secret admirer?”
“Who knows. Whoever they are. I want to thank them. So I can return the favor ya know.”
There she is! Too kind for her own good.
Peter shook his head at you.
“Yeah…” He trailed off. He sighed watching the snow fall around you two.
“Thank you for saving me again. You’re doing amazing things for this city. I’m glad New York has you as their savior.” You nodded.
“I’m no savior…” Peter stared at you.
“You are, and you should really stop being so hard on yourself.” Without really thinking about it. You reached forward and pressed a kiss to the side of his mask. Peter’s heart skipped. You beamed up at him, then made your way up the steps. As you reached the top steps, Peter started panicking. His palms felt sticky and his suit felt too tight. He wasn’t really sure what he was doing until he called out your name.
“Y-Y/n!”
You stopped. Your hand was on the door handle as you swirled around to look at him.
“Yeah?” You nodded, patiently waiting for him to continue. He sighed heavily. His right hand reached behind him to grip the back of his mask. Since his old suit was destroyed he had to sew together a new one. Was he really about to take his mask off? He was hesitant because he knew it’d be stupid of him to do such a thing.
Don’t do this!
He repeated over and over in his head. Selfishly he just wanted at least one person to know his secret again, someone to be able to talk to. He needed you, but if he followed through with this then that whole spell would have been for nothing.
He couldn’t do that to you…You were finally in a good place.
His breath shuddered as he kicked himself. He wanted to take you all in. Your patience, your smile, your hair, your little mannerisms. The way your beating heart calmed his nerves. He remembered it from before, and he’ll always remember it from here on out. He knew the only way to really move on was to let you go, and that really felt like a stab to the heart. He started really falling for you, you, telling him you had loved him for two years. That struck a nerve in him. He had liked you too back then, but he always thought you didn’t feel the same way. Guess he was an idiot for thinking so. In the end, he ended up loving you too late. Now the whole world had forgotten about Peter Parker, and you were one of them. So even though he couldn’t…but he had to, for your safety, for his own good.
He had to learn how to love you from afar.
“T-Take care of yourself, okay.” He finally let out. You nodded reassuringly. You smiled one last time and turned again but… “A-And make sure if you walk home at night, you walk with a friend okay. Do that for me, okay?” He had to go before he broke down.
“I-I will Spidey…I promise.” He knew he had your word. You were never one to break a promise. He didn’t even say anything about the nickname you just used. “Don’t over-exert yourself, okay, even heroes need a break.”
“Goodnight, Y/n.” He saluted you. Yet he was going to stand there until you made it past the front doors to get inside. Maybe to the elevator too.
“Goodnight.” You smiled, then pushed open the door. Your back was now facing him as you walked across the lobby to reach the elevator. You looked back and laughed to see him waving.
Of course, he waited, what a gentleman. You pressed the up button and waited as the elevator dinged. You entered and pressed the button for the third floor. You caught sight of him leaving as the doors were closing shut. You felt giddy, you had met Spider-Man and he saved you.
-
“Y/n, dear that you?” Your nana heard the front door opening.
“Hey nana, yeah, it’s me!” You called out as you discarded your coat and scarf onto the hangers. Your satchel was dropped next to the little two shelve shoe rack.
“How was work?” She asked as she turned back to the drama series you got her hooked on.
“Umm you know…same ole same ole.” You shrugged not really wanting to tell her you could’ve been almost raped. Then got saved by Spider-Man. That’s the most attention you’ve ever gotten in one day.
“How was school then?” She continued.
“Oh um-“ What was there to talk about school. You scratched your head as you wandered over to the kitchen to make yourself some tea. Your nana had already put the kettle on the stove, so the water was probably still hot.
“Careful it’s-“ She called out as she plopped a grape into her mouth.
“Shit!” You cursed out loud.
“-Hot.” She sighed, shaking her head.
You put your finger under cold running water. “I-I don’t know where to start actually…” You hissed as the burn ached.
“Well, why don’t you start with something that made your day. That’s always nice to hear.”
“Something that made my day—oh um!” You laughed then smiled at the thought. “I…” You bit your lip. “I actually made some friends, who invited me out to the movies this weekend.” Your eyes crinkled at the corners as you slowly looked up at your nana, who now had her full attention on you. Her head tilted as she beamed in delight. Her right hand was placed over her left side on top of her heart. She knew how hard it was for you to make friends and it wasn’t always a topic she could get you to talk about so this felt like such a special moment. She was ecstatic that you decided to share this news with her. She was so proud of you.
She was happy.
“Well, what’re their names?” She was now very intrigued to know more about your new friends.
“Ned and MJ.” You glanced down smiling at your hand fiddling with the tea packet. You couldn’t believe you had made some new friends…You couldn’t believe much of anything that happened today.
Perched on top of the building across from yours. Peter sniffled as he watched you from afar. Flashbacks of that day filled his head. But only one thing stood out to him the most.
I-I know you’ll do the right thing okay.
“Yeah, I know.” Peter watched you through the window. You laughed at what your nana said and sat down next to her. He felt his heart skip seeing you smile. God, he loved your smile! Your laugh was being drained out by the police scanner on his phone. He smiled under his mask. Then turned his head at the sound of a police chase a few blocks away. He looked over at your figure once more. His heart longed to reach out to you, but this was what he signed up for. This was his biggest loss and even though it broke him. He knew it was for the best.
“Bye Y/n.” He then leaped off the building across from yours and swung off.

5 Non-MCU Characters I'd love to see in Deadpool & Wolverine
Tumblr media
Superbowl Sunday saw the return of everyones favorite Merc with a Mouth Deadpool in the trailer for his upcoming new movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
And as usual, Marvel hooked me.
Some fans have seen it as a return to form for the MCU, others as business as usual for Ryan Reynolds, and some just couldn't get over the little bit of Wolverine we got.
Tumblr media
Myself, I was mainly focused on one thing. Aaron Stanford.
Tumblr media
For those not in the know, this clip from the trailer shows Aaron Stanford returning as minor villain and asshole Pyro from the original X-Men Films. He was a sidekick to Magneto, and has a rivalry with Iceman in those movies.
Tumblr media
The return of Pyro from the X-Men films confirms what most fans expected: we will see old heroes and villains from the Fox era, not just Wolverine.
And while a few have been already revealed through casting news or set photos, there are plenty more in store for us, I'm sure.
This got my head gears turning, so I decided I'd look back on the old Fox films to see who I want to return, even for the briefest moment or cameo.
None of these have been confirmed officially, so you are spoiler free from here on out. But I must warn, once I put this ideas in your head, you may be mad if they don't show up.
5. Animated Deadpool Voiced by Donald Glover
Tumblr media
*sigh* The project I wish existed.
In 2017, Donald Glover was in development and given the green light on an animated Deadpool show. The show was to premiere on FX in 2018. However, for unknown reasons it was cancelled, and never debuted, leaving fans and Donald Glover displeased.
Tumblr media
After the success of films like Spider-Verse, and Glovers involvement with Marvel, having him come in for a scene where he fights with or against Ryan Reynolds Deadpool could be a fun nod to the fans and maybe give the project the boost it needs to somehow come back.
But alas, I'm still hoping Spider-Verse will bring back Spectacular Spider-Man, so what do I know?
Tumblr media
4. X-23
Tumblr media
If there is a character ripe for a spin-off from the old X-Men universe, it was definitely X-23.
It's surprising to me she hasn't been revealed as a main member of the cast. She's a character I think few people talk about anymore, but was a crucial part of the film. I'd say Logan is up there and one of the best superhero movies.
Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman made Logan such an impactful moving film. I'd love to see where the character has gone since Logan, and see how them reuniting effects the film.
Tumblr media
Not to mention if she fought Deadpool, it would be one hell of a good (and kind of funny ) fight.
3. Apocalypse
Tumblr media
Do I like this character? Absolutely not.
Do I want him here just for the Moon Knight jokes? Yes.
I actually think theres a good Apocalypse in Oscar Isaac somewhere. Having Deadpool and Wolverine at one point face the X-Men's Thanos sounds pretty cool, and Isaac is a great comedic and dramatic performer who deserves another shot.
I wouldn't mind a CGI version that looks more comic accurate, like Beast in the Marvels.
Tumblr media
But again. I really just want Deadpool to say "So are you Steven or Marc?"
2. The Human Torch
Tumblr media
Similarly, I want the Captain America jokes.
But if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Human Torch was by far the best part of those Fantastic Four movies.
There's just so many things you can do with it!
We can have him in the frosted tips, in a new Fantastic Four uniform. Maybe even have him fight Pyro, stop a fire guy with a fire guy. Or have him come out from behind a train like Captain America in Infinity War, but it's Johnny.
Tumblr media
Having Evans play across Reynolds even for a bit would make so many fans happy and get more cheers then No Way Home.
Besides Evans has done a cameo in a Shawn Levy film starring Ryan Reynolds once. He can do it again.
Tumblr media
1. Legion
Tumblr media
The rumored main villain of this film tends to have a very particular vendetta with Charles Xavier. So why not use his son to acquire power?
Legion is the acclaimed show from Noah Hawley starring Dan Stevens as David Haller, a mutant with schizophrenia and basically unlimited power.
Tumblr media
Dan Stevens is incredible in this show, and I think bringing in such a powerful X-Men character would make for some fun interactions and extreme stakes. Not to mention the insane visuals, all while delving deep into the psyche of both are protagonists.
While I doubt all of these characters show up, if one or two do, I'd be extremely happy. We'll just have to wait and see.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for reading! Please consider following, and check out my socials and other sites here! And let me know: Who do you want to see in Deadpool and Wolverine?

The first felt too unfinished to not be excited to see where Villeneuve brings it next.
13. Wonka (Paul King) – 12.15.23
Really couldn’t care less about Chalamet, and this project is totally unnecessary. But... I’m a die-hard Roald Dahl fan, and this is directed by the man who gave us Paddington 2, so... yeah.
14. Killers of the Flower Moon (Martin Scorsese) – TBD
C’mon... It’s Scorsese!
15. The Killer (David Fincher) – TBD

16. Napoleon (Ridley Scott) – TBD
I love Ridley Scott... and Joaquin Phoenix looks like he’s going to murder this role.

The theatre geek living deep down within me is enough reason. But then I also want to see if A Star Is Born was a fluke.
18. Ferrari (Michael Mann) – TBD
Michael Mann directing a movie about Enzo Ferrari starring Adam Driver... why aren’t you excited about it?!?
19. Beau Is Afraid (Ari Aster) – TBD
No clue what we’re in for... but I’m certain it’s going to fuck me up for a week or two.
20. Peter Pan & Wendy (David Lowery) – TBD
David Lowery... enough said. I mean, seriously, have you seen A Ghost Story or Pete’s Dragon?!?
PHOTO FIVE:
21. Lee (Ellen Kuras) – TBD
If Kate Winslet wasn’t enough... well, it is... it really is.
22. Blitz (Steve McQueen) – TBD
It’s McQueen doing a WWII drama starring Saoirse Ronan...
23. Megalopolis (Francis Ford Coppola) – TBD
I’m hoping it’s as wild as those set photos have been...
24. The Way of the Wind (Terrence Malick) – TBD
Malick does Jesus...
25. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (Wes Anderson) – TBD
I doubt this is actually going to release in 2023, but it is already in post, so in case does, I really need you all to know just how excited I will always be for new Wes Anderson.
There they are!
As for My Best of 2022, once again all of the major lists will not be getting posted until mid/late January, but I’m going to try to get some of the early lists – such as Posters, TV & Non-2022 Films – sorted and posted over the next week or two. Please Feel Free to Follow Along So You Don’t Miss Anything!
Stay Tuned!

Ellie’s Blorbo List of 2022
Not gon’ cap, I had a very shitty first 6 months of 2022 and kinda uh….isolated myself (and had no choice but to do so at one point). But I’m here right now. And I’m alive and breathing. And that’s enough for me.
We’re gonna go through some of the characters I chose to be a part of my clan this year as a fun little thing to celebrate being here. And as something to observe me by, this is PALPABLE.
Tag List: (bc i hope y’all want to hear these things) @joz-stankovich, @super-unpredictable98, @badsext, @bisexualnathanyoung, @maerenee930, @seancekitsch, @candyclaw, @magic-multicolored-miracle
Tumblr media
Alastor (Hazbin Hotel)
part of the reason I kinda uh….went far under was related to him. But I’m able to enjoy him and keep the nasty stuff at bay now so that’s fun :).
Tumblr media
Peter Parker/Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, Spider-Man: No Way Home)
I made an entire playlist about Prior Walter. And watched Tick Tick Boom. And part of under the silver lake……I was balls deep in this man’s cinematography, and it was all thanks to No Way Home.
Tumblr media
Dr. Otto Octavius/Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home)
Part 2 of my no way home brainrot. This man…..yeah……mhm. I love him so much. Big boy. That’s all.
Tumblr media
Cloud Strife (specifically Final Fantasy 7, but he’s a part of the whole franchise)
I’ve had moments with Cloud every now and then, and I’ve decided to include him, solely on the fact that I have over 20 edits of him saved on a google doc. I’ve also never played a single Final Fantasy game.
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson/Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things)
I watched season 4 of stranger things as a distraction from the horrors and I never looked back. He is my baby boy and baby girl and Erica and Lucas are my younger siblings. He’s made me feel unlike any other character, especially in the way he makes me want to punch people on tiktok who call cosplay “cringe”, or bully outcasts.
Tumblr media
Steve Harrington/Joe Keery (Stranger Things)
babygirl. I want to fix him a nice large meal. And hose him down in the front yard because I know for a fact he needs a bath. I’m cleaning him like a duckling covered in oil. I also watched Spree, and listened to DJO for the first time around September-ish. I’m unstoppable now. Joe Keery’s music is SOLID.
Tumblr media
Maxine (Max) Mayfield (Stranger Things)
She’s my bestie. I’m protecting her from all harm in Season 5. Thank you very much.
Tumblr media
Morpheus/Dream of the Endless (The Sandman)
He’s my skrunkly little man. I almost put desire too....imagine i put a gif of them on here wow omg.
Tumblr media
Prince Sidon (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild)
This one was mildly short lived, but it happened. I love him so much....shark prince. (fun fact, sharks have not one, but 2 penises) I have not played a single second of any Zelda game.....yet here we are.
Tumblr media
Hamlet (Hamlet)
Ok so we read and watched Hamlet in AP English Lit (Branagh’s version with clips from the other) and I was like “this man right here needs therapy”. This is a joke but it’s also not.
Tumblr media
Principal Larissa Weems (Wednesday)
I recognized Gwendoline Christie from The Sandman when I saw the trailers for Wednesday and went “oh bet I’m definitely watching this” and I finished this show in less than 24 hours.......yeah I like it. She cares about her students, she’s tall, she’s definitely a lesbian. I love her.
Tumblr media
Wednesday Addams (Wednesday)
She’s my bestie, I’m her bestie. She was my first cosplay. That’s all.
Tumblr media
Tangerine (Bullet Train)
I watched this movie a whopping almost 48 hours ago. I love him. I want to fix him a large meal. Treat him. That is all.

Every once in a while, I gather all my courage and open my Facebook to see what boils my guts this time and the winner of today’s evening is “MCU died with Iron Man” and listen *cracks her knuckles* strap in cause we’re in for a ride. Before we get into it - yes, this is my opinion and you’re more than welcome to disagree.
MCU has its problems, it undeniably has - I wouldn’t want to get into the bigger ones since I’m still educating myself (biggest issue marvel did and I disagree with is whitewashing characters for the MCU’s needs) but to be honest, even if there’s much more content to keep up with (movies x series at the same time), I was never happier to watch the stories unfold.
My personal favorite is Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan - I’ve came across her in the Avengers game and immediately, I ran off to buy some comics to read about her because she’s so fricking cool. When I saw first trailer for Love and Thunder and realized that Taika is about to adapt the Mighty Thor arc on screen, I almost lost my shit because Jane’s story is one of the most meaningful ones I’ve ever read. I’ve never heard about Moon Knight (I just knew that somehow Dracula owns him money) but going through the adaptation of Steve, Marc and Jake’s story left me breathless and eager for more, so I learned about the ever changing adaptions of Moon Knight. MoM making Wanda the villain and introducing America - chef’s kiss. Sam Wilson officially becoming Captain America - YESSS!!! Shang-Chi made me laugh so hard I cried because home girl Awkwafina was slaying so fucking hard. Now, I’m just waiting for Miles Morales officially appearing there (yes I know about the Spider-Verse) and I’ll be more than happy to die. And Loki? Loki was a fun trip down the memory lane sprinkled with new lore which I super enjoyed! And who could complain about No Way Home?
So no, no, no - the MCU didn’t die with Iron Man. And it won’t. There’s plenty more to come and to explore various characters from various settings. The problem for the people is that there’s not just five dudes and Nat in tight spandex to follow around but a lot of ministories of distinguishible characters to follow. And I love each second of it.

I just finished yet another one of my kintsugi rereads and I am dying with the evolution of the Frank Peter relationship. The slow warming up of Peter and how much it pains him to trust an adult with his problems because of his past I just! (!!!!!!!!!!)
frank and peter's relationship is something that i was constantly trying to pump the breaks on because like, i wanted them to form a bond but realistically speaking Peter would be intensely hostile to frank on the sheer principle alone and also he's necessarily at a place in his life where he does not at all want someone to help him. And now that someone is, he's constantly struggling against the urge to retreat back into the safety of old habits.
Frank, meanwhile, is interesting to me, because he loves kids and is protective of kids but he's not always good with kids. Like, a lot of the time--he's great with kids. We saw that with Micro's kids, with Amy, and with his own kids. But we also saw that he just would mess up too. With his own son, there was more than one scene where he sort of carried regret over how harshly he responded to Frank Jr. With Amy, we had the scene in the trailer, where he responded way too violently to her when she play-attacked him and he got freaked because he could have killed her. With Micro's son, Frank had some really good moments throwing the football... and he also had the really bad moment where he was trying to discipline him over bringing a knife to school and got way too intense.
Frank really does try with kids--and, more importantly, he recognizes his fuck ups and tries to make amends. He usually figures out pretty quick when he overstepped a line and tries to make up for it. And there's a lot of scenes where he's just a good, affirming, and encouraging presence to kids--when Amy's teaching him card tricks, when Micro's daughter is talking about books with him, etc. But his fuck ups with kids are still damaging, and you can't really remove that from Frank's interactions with kids. He's gonna overstep, almost inevitably. He's gonna fuck up and do something that hurts their relationship.
Which really was important to the development of Peter and Frank's relationship, because Peter's really more set up to test Frank more than any other kid he's come into contact with. Every single one of Frank's worst parenting moments came from 1) they risked hurting themselves or 2) they hurt or risked hurting someone else. Amy almost got hurt at Frank's hands; Zach started going around with a knife; his son used a slur and was really callous towards the death of a lot of people. Peter, meanwhile, is uniquely posed to 1) actually kill himself and 2) hurt his aunt in the exact way Frank is tortured by every single day of his life. But Frank's stuck in a way that he wasn't with any of the other kids. Like, he will steamroll a kid for what he's decided is their own safety. He zip-tied amy to a fucking bed and duct taped her mouth shut. He's not exactly the most gentle of folks. And if he had the option with Peter--he would have done it yesterday. 1200%. if he could just overpower peter, he'd spend every single day physically hauling this kid home to his aunt, chaining him to his bed, and doing it on repeat until the kid stopped fucking around with crime fighting. He's just fucking stuck becuase this one can bench press a Subaru.
Frank's not here to help him be Spider-Man--he would never enable spider-man, and Peter wouldn't accept his help if he did, frank's the fuckin' punisher, he actively does not want vigilante help from him. So many of the whole "Peter meets X vigilante" stories usually end with whatever adult it is deciding that Peter's going to be better off and safer if they train him, but I don't see Frank making that decision at all. i can see matt making the decision, but not frank. like, he's just absolutely not willing to accept the idea that it's ever going to be better if a kid is on the streets risking his life every night. he will always gamble for trying to get this kid back to exclusively being Peter parker--which, in a way, is a bit tragic, because it's a gamble he's going to lose hard. So you're stuck with these two people who, against all odds, legitimately care for each other, but their non-negotiables are absolutely in conflict and it's just a question of whether they can survive collision.

HELLO. I PLAYED JEDI SURVIVOR TODAY
i just left coruscant and im chilling in the mantis. its late and i have a busy day tomorrow so i dont wanna stay up all night. heres my first thoughts
it is visually STUNNING!! i was genuinely so shocked at how beautiful the home page is. all of the uis are stylized similarly to jfo, but its polished and new in a way that i really appreciate. a standout addition in the options menu was an arachnophobia safe mode. i think its awesome how they’re making this game accessible to people with phobias like that. i don’t know what this spider monster will be like, but it must be kinda intense to warrant an option like that. but it also made me think, “why just arachnophobia?” because including something like this opens the door to other pressing phobias that can prevent people from playing. i have thalassophobia, and the venator crash section in jfo was very dimly lit and it was so much i almost wasnt able to get the 5 or so chests hidden away in there. underwater sections in games can be a nightmare for me if they aren’t lit well and it freaks me the hell out. i wonder if they considered other phobias like mine, or what exactly drove them to this decision. i guess i need to just wait and see.
the graphics and worldbuilding are incredible. its so beautiful and the level design is noticeably upgraded. i have only been through a short linear area, but it’s great so far. everything is very very seamless (the gameplay to cutscene transitions.. fuck its perfect). there were some portions where the interactable surfaces blended in a bit too well, and i was also not used to the way they looked, and i found myself a little stuck in some parts. not to where its an issue, this happened in the jfo tutorial as well, but it was all just very seamless. coruscant is fucking beautiful and the vast cities, neon lights, and other little design details made me so happy. half my gameplay was just me gawking at the scenery around me.
let’s talk plot. i noticed that a lot of these first cutscenes closely follow what we saw in the first teaser trailer. that man (forogt his name..), cals lightsaber in the case, him losing a battle to an inquisitor, beautiful beautiful coruscant. the only thing missing is the character that cody fern plays, who is clearly very important to this game. but despite his importance, they’re keeping every detail they can hidden from us. i havent seen him yet as i’m not even in koboh, but i can’t wait. i love cody fern and i know he will do a great job in this game. that aside, from what i’ve seen so far, i’m really happy. i absolutely love bode and was not prepared for how much i would enjoy his and cal’s banter. and knowing me, of COURSE i couldnt help but make jokes over and over again about romance between them. my worst one was probably, after the reveal that bode’s baby mama died, i gasped and said “YAY!!!” ..anyway. i FORGET HER NAME but the girl that was apart of cal’s crew stole my heart. i thought she was so cute and i loved her personality and dialogue. and then they killed her off 😭 i knew i shouldnt have gotten attached but i couldnt help myself!!! rest in peace girl whose name ive already forgotten.
the customization is such an upgrade. and it also leaves for some hilarious results. you know i went all out with the blindingly pink lightsaber and blade. i did it to bd too and he looked crazy and i felt bad so i gave him a pink and purple look. i got the deluxe version so i have the luke and han outfits along with some blue and green color choices, bd parts, and lukes lightsaber. im gonna hold off on customizing my lightsaber too much until i get some more parts. the joy of this game is being able to mix and match! and for cal, the no beard option is genuinely scary and he looks naked😭
gameplay is so smooth and SEXY. loving the two bladed sabers so far. i am a double lightsaber girl because of darth mauls influence but i know its better suited for crowds of enemies rather than one on one (in jfo at least). i might upgrade it a bit though because wow the animations are just beautiful for that stance.
i think thats about all i have to say. oh cal is absolutely GORGEOUS. excited to play more of this tomorrow and i am just really happy depression cured 10/10 game

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law 1.01- "A Normal Amount of Rage"
SPOILERS below the cut for the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, read at your own risk!
Okay, right off the bat I have to say that I loved this pilot. Jenn is hilarious, and relatable, and although I know people are going to call this show "woke" for talking about the struggles women face, I thought it was actually quite accurate and realistic to things I've personally experienced.
Lots of really great details in this show already, such as when Jenn had green blood on her going into the bar. Which, speaking of the bar scene, I loved how all the women in the bathroom stepped up and started trying to help Jenn without even knowing what happened! That, juxtaposed with the way the men outside the bar started catcalling her and harassing her, I felt was actually pretty poignant, and really played well into her later discussion with Bruce about how being a woman alone means she has to be good at controlling her emotions.
I actually think it was actually a really interesting take that her experiences as a woman made it easier for her to control when she changes into her Hulk form. Up until that reveal I was really wondering how she was so in control, and I was worried it would lean into this "oh she's a woman, and she's just better at it all" kind of thing, but they took the time to explain how being a woman made her better at all of this. It also did make me get more frustrated when Bruce wasn't wanting to let her go back to her life.
I won't say he was mansplaining the situation to her, because he has been a Hulk for years and she's just become one, but trying to make her become a hero felt very much like he wasn't right to put that on her shoulders. Obviously, there's the idea at play here still that "great power comes with great responsibility", but whereas with Peter in No Way Home, he had already taken on the mantle of a superhero as Spider-Man, but Jenn hadn't made that decision and it wasn't Bruce's decision to try to make it for her.
That said, I do have questions I hope to have answered as we move forward- such as why her hair changes when she changes into her Hulk form? I also want to know more about what powers she has as they clearly do differ from Bruce's (as we saw with the clapping scene). Will Bruce be a recurring character each week, or was he a one-off? I did notice it listed Mark Ruffalo as a "special guest star" in the end credits, so I imagine he'll only be around for cameo appearances (like maybe Wong and Blonsky, as Jenn insinuated in one of the trailers) as opposed to being a supporting role (which is what Matt Murdock has been said to be in PR for this series).
Speaking of Matt- not surprised that we didn't see him in this episode, but considering he's a lawyer and we're returning to Jenn's life and job as a lawyer, I think there's also a strong chance that we'll see him next week! That is another thing about the lawyer aspect, I thought she was going to be a defence attorney, so I was surprised that she was prosecution! Maybe we'll see her and Matt going head to head in the courtroom?
All in all, I'm super excited to see where this show goes from here, and I'll be waiting anxiously for next week's episode! We're off to a strong start, and I hope we'll continue on to an even stronger finish.
But, I want to hear from you! What did you think of the episode? Drop your thoughts in the replies below, or feel free to reblog with your own commentary :) Until next week- skål!

Today’s Media: It’s good and THAT is the problem
Hello again, friends.
I don’t want to be “that girl” or “that comic/cartoon lover” who says everything sucks right now because it isn’t fair and isn’t true. Besides, talking about how bad everything is doesn’t solve the problem. Instead, I decided to analyze and take note of what the real problem with cartoons, movies and comics right now. And I found a proper and fair conclusion. The problem with today’s entertainment today is that it is good. Just good. I know how that sounds; if it is good, how is that a problem? Being good is good, right? Wrong.
Tumblr media
Just to name a few cases, I saw Spider-Man No Way Home and it was a good movie which made for a fun movie night with my husband and I liked it... but it was not a great movie, it was not something that I was excited to watch and it is not the kind of movie I would sit back and watch over and over and over again. It put a smile on my face and had great original ideas, but like with most of the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, they over-rely on other movies, heroes and recent events to tell its story. It’s not Spider-Man and Iron Man, it is not Spider-Man and the Avengers, it is not Spider-Man and Dr. Strange or Spider-Man and his amazing friends. Not that there is anything wrong with crossover and team up movies, but that is not what this movie should be. It is one thing to reference and it is another thing to consistently rely on. Also, the concept of exploring alternate universes isn’t all that impressive for Spider-Man, but there’s already another Spider-Man film that did that: Into the Spiderverse. Heck, the 90s Spider-Man cartoon did this. So in other words, the big argument against it is that it was good and fun, but it’s major themes and ideas have been done, it lacked independence and those new ideas it had were not inspiring or game changing enough.
Now compare that to... this. The 1989 film Tim Burton’s Batman.
Tumblr media
This film wasn’t just a film, it was a masterpiece. The majority of criticism this film gets to this day isn’t just a “it was good” or “I had fun watching it”. People will trip over their words while still being excited after watching it while trying to describe how they feel about it. Tim Burton’s Batman wasn’t a good movie. It was a great movie. This movie’s trailer excited us and made feel like if we didn’t watch it as soon as it came out, it would be a huge loss. And to this day, this piece still have influence over all Batman media that comes out and it is usually the number one media we use to compare Batman media too in order to show if it is meeting that high Batman standard. No one will go around saying that what this film did has been done. People instead say, this film did it first and did it best. Most important, this film stands on its own two feet, it took its own ideas and ran with them and it stands the test of time.
In other words, this is what I mean when I say simply making media “good” is bad. It’s nice and gives us a bit of joy, but it doesn’t inspire us or impress us. It just entertains us and it has reached the point where I’m not even as excited anymore when I watch trailers from my beloved studios like Marvel, Disney, DC, Dreamworks and more. There are films I haven’t even watching and don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything by not watching them ever. Not because I think they’ll be bad, but because they failed to attract me. They look good, but for some things, I expect greatness not goodness.
However... the good news is that these studios are slowly, but surely getting out of their ruts. I can honestly say that the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series looks promising, The Batman is the best Batman reboot I have seen so far and Disney did make Frozen 2 recently which was stellar. I even got word that Marvel intends to make a live action Spider-Man TV series featuring Miles Morales and from what grape vine has told me, it’s not going to be cutesy at all and in fact, have a serious and more dramatic tone.
So fret not, friends. The rut is almost over.

‼️‼️‼️SPIDER-MAN NO WAY HOME SPOILERS‼️‼️‼️
(i wrote this the day after it came out and its been sitting in my drafts ever sense but its ok)
just some thoughts because this is all i can think about: (also this was my first marvel movie/opening night experience in a theatre and it was so cool to be in a room with people who love and are just as passionate about something as you are. everyone was clapping and screaming and crying 10/10 recommend)
i loved every fucking second of this movie
first, y’all, knowing that tom and zendaya are together irl made their scenes so much better and so much more emotional. i love them together
second, while i disn’t want it to happen, aunt may had to die. it made sense. i love her character but it made sense. i looked down my row in the theatre and everyone had the same expression of shock on their face
third, THE WAY THEY HAD ANDREW AND TOBEY COME IN WAS SO EPIC THE ENTIRE THEATRE WAS SCREAMING IT WAS SO SURREAL. like we all knew it was gonna happen but i was so excited and happy. also loved how they had ned do it because he’s always overshadowed and he finally got to do something
fourth, the spideys meeting each other too was so pure and sad. tom lit sobbing broke me to pieces theyre all such great actors. “she was my mj” stop 🛑 my heart
fifth, i loved the dynamic between all the spideys. i was cackling at the organic web convo “does it just come out of your wrists, or does it come out of anywhere else?😏” asksksksjwqrvb the dialogue was so good in that scene too
sixth, when electro had his whole speech on how all of the spidermen are the same- literally my thoughts exactly. my theatre was all on the same wavelength, we thought of miles morales. (petition to get him in the mcu please)
seventh, as soon as i saw mj falling in the trailer i knew a different spider-man was gonna come save her. i love that they had andrew save her it was perfect.
eighth, again the spidey dynamics when they had to work as a team. andrew was hilarious in this scene “i was in the avengers” “woah that’s cool” “what is that” “you guys dont have the avengers in your universe??” “no, wait are you in a band?!!” 💀💀💀dying
ninth, when toms peter was about to kill green goblin and then tobey stopped him. GUYS THIS IS SOME OF THE BEST ACTING TOM HAS EVER DONE i wanted him to kill goblin so bad because he always does the right thing and it would’ve been something new. the look in his fucking eyes man. tom needs to get an award of some kind for this idc
tenth, the goodbye scene between peter, ned and mj had me and the entire theatre SOBBING. i lost it when ned was crying and when they did the handshake. devastating. when mj said i love you my heart shattered. the kiss was perfection the whole shot with the sun was breathtaking. again knowing that tom and zendaya are together is even better because it just felt so real. exquisite.
lastly, the ending. damn. i thought they were gonna have this big reunion and it just didn’t happen. i still loved it tho. it was a perfect ending. i love the whole full circle moment we have where it goes back to homecoming. the apartment, the suit, everything. there couldn’t have been a better ending. makes me so sad that no one is gonna remember peter in future movies.
literally have been trying to find a time to see it again but i’m so busy at christmas time 😩😩

Man, I wanted so much to live this movie as much as I loved Spider-Verse, or GoTG3, or even Quantumania. But the DCEU has two major problems:
First- and I cannot stress this enough - announcing that the DCEU is dead/being rebooted before this movie came out was the stupidest decision ever, and they've made A LOT of stupid decisions. Like, way to totally make this entire thing anticlimactic before it's even started. This was a chance to even reset things, sure, but don't announce that Cavill's out and Affleck's out and Gadot might be out before this movie. I'm not much of a comic book reader, and most of my exposure to Flashpoint is thru a friend who absolutely loves the comics and the bits I've read around watching The Flash TV show, but like, way to totally kill it. DC and WB absolutely destroyed this DCEU, well before this movie hit theaters, and it makes this movie seem almost ... irrelevant. I mean, I'm all for making a movie just for the movie and not just as a piece to a universe (as apparently happened with Tom Cruise's Mummy movie), but like, DCEU is a little too far into the whole thing for that. But after the epicness of the Snyder-cut, there was hopes that the DCEU could be saved - and instead, much like that film, this one has been destroyed by plain stupid decision-making.
And, on that note, second - whomever DC has in charge of making the trailers, and then okaying the trailers, needs to be fired on the fucking spot. Like, holy shit, this was BvS all over again. Cameos are great, and they can be so much fun (they even are here, really). But to throw everyone (or, almost everyone) into the trailers (Affeck, fine - but, Keaton and Supergirl could've/should've been left out, and maybe Zod as well, since the movie should've been more about Barry) absolutely takes the fun out of it. Even the dramatic build up to 'I'm Batman' was spoiled, taking away the excitement of that. This is partially why No Way Home was so brilliant - yeah, there were rumors, but they kept Garfield/Maguire officially under wraps - so when they showed up in the movie, the fans were audibly excited. No so much here. Sure, we get a couple of quick cameos which are nice (the one near the beginning is funny; the ones at the end are pretty cool, albeit sorta just "show up and wave" appearances) , but Keaton would've been a great one to surprise people with. Supergirl too - it is almost like they saw that the whole "spoil Wonder Woman's presence in BvS" was a bad idea, and decided to repeat that exact same thing here. Utter nonsense.
And those two things really sorta quash what could've been a lot of fun with Barry Allen x2 running around some universe where he's utterly destroyed things in the hopes of saving his mom. Though, honestly, in this entire DCEU, it seems like the whole Flashpoint thing about the death of his mom is completely changed - and unexplained - so, well that doesn't go far. And the movie ends with it still apparently being a break-in instead of Reverse Flash, which, well, is not as cool for the movie.
There was also, I think, too many attempts at humor that just fell flat in what was essentially a 2-hour viewing of Ezra Miller in double role (towards the end, with the mask, for example). They tried for some humor, which is great, but not sure a lot of it stuck well.
What I really enjoyed were a couple of cameos that showed up unexpectedly in the end - both entertaining because of the history of DC movies. Keaton was also great, from the moment he shows up; explaining the timelines with spaghetti was also interesting. The end credit sequence/cameo was, like many of the DC cameos, entirely pointless and will almost certainly lead to nothing. And since it fails also at being humorous, you have to wonder why they even included it (other than getting another cameo in).
The movie, indirectly, acts as a Flash origin story, as we see him teaching the younger him from his own prior experiences - but, again, that's all for naught with them having already scrapped the DCEU. Which, again, is dumb, because it means this movie is fighting against everything simply because they've already come out and said "this is irrelevant." Like, I want to know more about Flash and Reverse Flash and Flashpoint - and this movie, really, sorta glosses over all of that.
I do love the idea of him going and learning, indirectly, about canon events/nexus events (to borrow from Spider-Verse) and what-not, but I feel they had so much material to work with and so much opportunity to make this great - and then the rug was pulled out from under them and we're just left with a mid-story swan-song to the DCEU.
DC, and WB, and HBO - they should all be fucking ashamed. What a waste of an opportunity to tell a fucking amazing story, and to delight DC fans of the old and new (there are fans of the new movies, right?) alike.

Finally watched Spiderman: Far from Home
I know, I know. It's been 3 years since the movie actually came and out and I'm only now watching it for the first time ever. When you're watching an Avengers movie, you want it to be a marathon. I still haven't seen Homecoming and haven't had enough time for a full Spider-Man marathon, so I kept putting it off. For the past couple of days, Far from Home has been in my Netflix previews, so I gave in. I'll do marathon of all three films later.
So, I am now asking myself why I didn't watch this earlier. The battle scenes are amazing! The graphics are EPIC! So beautiful. I can't wait to watch No Way Home. I actually thought I was watching No Way Home and kept expecting Tobey McGuire to pop up.
My favorite scene was when they were sharing truths. I love Zendaya's version of MJ. Zendaya has this weird ability to be likeable no matter what character she plays. When I saw the trailer, I wasn't too fond of her MJ because she seemed too gloomy, so I didn't think I'd like her. But she's actually very cool and anxious at the same time, which I find to be relatable.
I have this inane need to travel to Italy after this movie.
Aunty May's hair is hair goals. Happy's scenes made the movie - wait for it - happier. Otherwise, it's after the death of some of my favorite Avengers, Peter's is doubting himself and getting duped at the same time, it would've been too hard to watch the film.

I saw Operation Mincemeat, The Lost City, and Doctor Strange 2 so you don't have to.
Operation Mincemeat
This is a two hour film spun out of what could be a paragraph in a history book. There is one plot point, which we have to drag out into a long period quietly planning the ruse, then an actually entertaining bit when things start to go wrong and they have to sell it, and then a tying up of loose ends. Badly in need of more subplots or conflict and less sitting around in the pub all agreeing with each other on increasingly minor details of how the operation will work.
The subplot we are given, a love triangle in which I think we are supposed to take the side of a married male boss hitting on his much younger female subordinate, did not particularly interest me, although it at least gives the cast an excuse for some good sad acting and it's funny to see the two men famous for playing Mr Darcy as love rivals, as if settling the debate as to which Pride and Prejudice adaptation is superior.
The Lost City
This is your standard comedy adventure. It's silly but fun, some jokes work, others don't, some are clearly shoehorned into the script and not quite made natural by the actors (e.g. completely contrived dialogue to set up a specific punchline, 'accidental' innuendo that nobody would actually use in any context).
Daniel Radcliffe keeps getting cast in these villain roles but he just doesn't sell it to me. He's too awkward to be sinister. The thing he was good at was playing an awkward guy who is out of his depth, and he needs to find his way back to it.
Doctor Strange 2: Doctor Stranger
Marvel's trailers do it again. The conflicts you expect to form the climax of the story happen straight away, and the action doesn't let up from there. After the first film's cookie-cutter origin story, it's refreshing that the sequel doesn't follow the plot beats you might expect.
However, it can also leave you feeling a little disappointed. Other than one delicious CGI sequence, the film doesn't actually explore as much of the multiverse as it might, and I think that's where the unfavourable comparisons to Everything, Everywhere, All at Once come in. They could have gone in that direction, but that would be a different film. Here they chose to focus on one particular conflict, in just a few universes (what a phrase!), and didn't live up to the subtitle as much as people might have hoped.
The film also doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. There have been comments on the horror elements, but they also clearly needed it to be family friendly, and the result is just a bit campy at times. Caspar-style ghosts, fake fire demons, Wanda trying to be creepy when we've seen her in a sitcom (she's actually scarier when trying to be reasonable, and the crazy shows through, than when she goes full villain). They also try out some funky camera angles, which don't always work out in scenes that are supposed to be dramatic and serious.
This is a common criticism of these blockbusters, but there's a distinct lack of an emotional character arc that wasn't the case in recent instalments like Spider-Man: No Way Home.
For example, there was a recurring comment that Strange didn't know how to work as part of a time, he always had to be 'the one holding the knife', but then at the end he just... takes responsibility for saving America and the day, without any comment on that.
There was an option to send Christine, as she had an alternate self in the relevant universe, and clearly had knowledge of Strange's tools and abilities (potentially more than him, given the other advanced technologies she herself developed), so could have taken the cloak and ring from his dead doppelganger, and make a big point about how he's learnt to be better and won't make the same mistakes her Strange did... but they ignore it.
Strange could realise he can take a step back and be the coach in guiding her through the steps, rather than taking the lead himself, instead of making a big deal about her being this accomplished woman standing up for herself (different from our Christine who was always pushed aside by Strange and relegated to passing him the scalpel in awe), then putting her in the supporting role anyway, basically just getting given a job to do of mopping up the lesser dangers around him (which were mentioned at the last minute with no foreshadowing, as if just created to give her something to do) rather than involving her in the actual attempt.
Or, if you want to go the other way with his arc, you could lean into it. You could have Christine insist on going (to do right by her), but him saying no, he can't put his Christine in danger, and realise that she is right: he does always have to be the one holding the knife, and that can lead into their whole 'it wouldn't work between us' farewell (where up until then he thought it would, but he then he realises and becomes resigned to his own nature - he will always be that guy, he can't change and be better for her after all).
Either way you get a satisfying conclusion to his character's journey through the film, rather than just not picking up these points you mentioned at the start.
The same goes for America. There is no mention of her parents at the end - has she decided to give up the search because she's found a new family training as a wizard? Or is she saying thanks, you can teach me how to use my power so I can find them? Just one line would complete her journey and actually add some depth beyond the flashy plot, to make the characters feel like real people with their own wants and needs rather than just forgetting about those after their introduction.
On the subject of found family, it's a bit strange that nobody suggests the obvious possibility of a universe where the Wanda was dead and her sons orphaned, which would surely help everyone. They could both help America master her powers (as it turns out was easy in the end), and she could search and take Wanda there. In fact, Wanda could have just adopted her given their need for a mother and child respectively and that she ends up basically adopted by Strange and Wong in the end anyway (Wanda could have taught her magic and helped her with her power just as much). The 'only way to defeat her is to give her what she wants' bit was great, but I think we need a better obstacle than an already-existing Wanda because that's obviously not always going to be the case (as we see with multiple dead Stranges).
There's also an absence of worldbuilding. I get that they want to vary the magic for fun CGI reasons, but given we have seen both characters easily cut opponents in half using their most basic techniques, no explanation is given for why they switch to using magical swords, then to flinging musical notes at each other, when we know they can be much more effective without all the messing about. It would be fun if they could just drop a line to explain magic works differently in different universes, and so in one it is linked to weapons, one it is linked to music, and you could really have fun exploring that diversity within a story that makes sense.
