Super excited to announce that @gentrigger is gonna be making the mech sprites for Lancer Tactics! I've been a big fan of their work ever since I first saw it here on Tumblr. :)

I'm told that SEGA/Red Company's Sakura Taisen (サクラ大戦) is now twenty-seven years young. I'm not the type to play just any tactics RPG, let alone invest my time in dating sims, but the blend of both genres wrapped in pretty pink is simply irresistible.

I've been playing a demo for Unicorn Overlord and it's a lot of fun - very solid tactics RPG goodness. As part 1 of my doodles of it here are some characters that stood out to me... with a bit of a twist.

Splattack! The Tactical Splatoon Roleplaying Game!
Tumblr media
You're a kid now! You're a squid now!
Welcome to Splattack, a tabeltop RPG game themed around the universe and gameplay of Splatoon!
In Splattack, you'll make your own team of muck slinging mollusks and take on another team in a war to control grounds! You'll choose from a small variety of unique weapons to accomplish this task.
Work as a team with three other people against the MC (Master of Cephalopods) controlled opposing team. Or perhaps take up a whole team by yourself and battle against a friend! If you're REALLY insane, why not just get seven people together and all make your own splatoon OC to battle against eachother?
This game is currently in its Alpha state, with a variety of not-present features (such as fleshed out rules for proper adventuring, gear, and so on), but it does feature a mechanic for getting clout online, so, like. uh. pretty good tradeoff there! Plus, it even comes with a map to play on! Try to take over the Kelp Dome with 9 rounds of splatoon fun.
If you end up playing it with your group, I would LOVE to hear about your experiences and feedback, the more playtest information I get, the more I can fine tune the core experience and start on additional expansions.
But Modstin, why should I play this instead of just loading up Splatoon 3?
That's a good question! Splatoon is a fantastic game, and I've tried my best to adapt its mechanics in a fun way to the tabletop format. With the freedom of an RPG comes the allowance for more than the games can offer, like freedom of being any odd species, and of course, roleplaying as your squidkids!
Are you sure this game is Balanced?
Somewhat! It's still a work in progress, this is the alpha version! If Splatoon can make overhaul patches all the time, so can I. And by playing the game and trying to break it, you're doing me a favor! I want all the feedback I can get!
What mechanics ARE covered in this game then?
Turf Wars are fully playable, with three main weapons, three sub weapons, and three specials to choose from! Inking turf, splatting enemies, superjumping, it's all there! There are splatblocks for a few different characters at the end of the doc, which you can use as premades or run as the MC.
Wow! I'll go play it right now!
You sure will! Here's the link to the Google Drive with everything you need to get started!
Remember! I'm always welcoming of feedback, criticism, ideas, and so on! My messages are always open!

Just beat Kingsvein while playing on Titan Difficulty with Thoughtful AI as a Dark Augur.
This game came out 3 days ago. I have been kinda DRIVEN to beat it today ever since the game literally pulled the ground out from under me.
This game does SO MUCH for turn based tactics game enjoyers. It was hard to put down and stop gushing about on a discord thread to my partners.
Tumblr media
I think that final boss took me around an hour because I wasn't expecting how much of an ordeal it would be?
Just gonna post my stats to have a record of them.
Tumblr media
I love my little rock collection of a party and their fox/cat companion + moral compass Remir.
I can already see myself starting a new game with the newly unlocked starting character types + difficulty and exp slider.
It's just such a dense little exploration + turn based tactics game with dialog that gets me so fucking invested.
I don't want to talk about spoilers, but I am kinda excited about the end of the game world state.
There is a lot there at the end I want to see more of going forward. I just did not get enough fights w/ some of those end game mechanics!!!

Figgity's Technical Corner - Motes Devlog 01
(This is the technical breakdown of another devlog post I made. Check it out!)
(If you want to check the original post from itch.io, its right here. this is specifically the technical breakdown from that post)
--  Abandon all hope, ye who enter. For beyond this threshold is the insanity of Figgity's mind on Godot.... --
So, to start with AI I decided to break it down into 3 base actions. Drawing, Moving, and Using Cards, with sub-actions to be added later in there, like shuffling the deck, retreating, buffing and ect. But the big 3 are whats important for now.
I started with moving. To decide where to move, I figured that a summative approach would be best, where I get an average range of all the cards the AI currently has. It works well, cause it'll always be moving in range of at least one card it has. then it gets the closest target, generates a ring of tiles around it (I just made 2 circles with the midpoint circle algorithm, one smaller and removed the smaller circle) and figures what the shortest path on that ring is, and moves to that tile. Next was drawing, that was as easy as just telling it to draw cause the player can't see it. Finally, using cards. Also pretty easy, it just picks random true, false for each card, then if its true it picks a target in range and tells the services bus to do the thing.
Now, I'm gonna go make lunch before I explode thinking about this logic more :3
Thanks for reading this long, have a nice day! <3

my favorite ongoing tradition in the fire emblem subreddits is new people showing up to ask why the displayed hit rate %s never actually add up (e.g. a 90% hit rate hits more than 90% of the time while a 20% hit rate hits less than 20% of the time), because they invariably get two answers:
someone explaining mathematics behind double-RNG and how it makes for a better player experience psychologically so while the devs obviously want to provide a challenge that still has some degree of luck, they also want people to not rage-quit, and
someone saying it's bc it's funnier that way

Go Loud with Cyber Knights: Flashpoint - Make Some Noise!
Tumblr media
Go Loud game challenge is live for Cyber Knights: Flashpoint on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows PC. Thanks to the brilliant team at Trese Brothers for their work in bringing us a new challenge. Available on Steam Early Access with 89% Very Positive reviews. Are you ready for a challenge from the CKF Community? Last time they offered the "Silent Swords" challenge, slicing our way through missions like ninjas. This time, the developers are flipping the script with the "Go Loud" challenge. It's all about making some noise! Here’s what you gotta do:
Go Loud by Turn 2: This means you have to complete a mission, break out your guns, grenades, or anything else that goes "bang!" No sneaking around this time – make some noise right off the bat.
No Silencers Allowed: That's right, we're not here to be stealthy. Leave those silencers and suppressors at home.
You can still use swords or other gear, but the key is to make some noise with a loud weapon by the second turn at the latest.
Cyber Knights: Flashpoint - Early Access Trailer (but Go Loud)
youtube
Now, Trese Brothers wants to see how you tackle this challenge. Get creative and share your games with the community. Here are some ideas:
Squad Screenshots: Show your team in action during the mission. They want to see those epic moments right as you're stirring up chaos.
After Action Reports: Write up what went down on your mission. What challenges did you face when you had to go loud right away? The developers want a good story.
Strategies: Share your tactics for dealing with the chaos of going loud early in a mission. Since fellow knights could use some tips, and represent Linux as well as Steam Deck!
Get Creative: Memes, GIFs, even interpretive dance – whatever floats your boat. Just make sure it’s about the loud and good times in New Boston.
How to Submit:
And remember, the developer needs at least one screenshot of your squad in the middle of their mission. It's all about seeing the action! There is also a discussion on Steam in the General Discussion forum for all of your posts. If you post in their Discord, head to #go_loud_challenge to join in on the conversation. Cyber Knights: Flashpoint, from the creators of Star Traders: Frontiers, is a cyberpunk thrill ride. You’re a Cyber Knight in 2231, an elite in the criminal underground with a powerful cybernetic implant. Leading a crew of hackers, mercenaries, and rebels, you've got to build your rep, strengthen your squad, and make the right connections. Every decision, every heist could be your last in the treacherous New Boston Zone. So, let's make some noise and share those wild stories! Can't wait to see what you've got. So let the "Go Loud" challenge begin on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows PC. The game is available on Steam Early Access. Priced at $23.99 USD / £19.99 / 23,19€ with the 20% discount.

So I finished the Unicorn Overlord demo yesterday, and…
It’s actually good. I didn’t expect it to actually be good.
The gameplay is fairly tactical, which I (as a hardcore Tactical RPG fan) absolutely love. The art and world look cute, and the characters are a bit cliché, but charming nonetheless. And the combat has been a blast so far too. I beat that last demo battle with like milliseconds left on the in-level timer; it was quite the experience.
Anyways, had to draw my boi Rolf, whose Arrow Rain skill was MVP— especially on that Sharon map, since Ochlys can’t take down the towers on her own in Expert Mode 🥲. Flame bow gives him some great utility and synergizes well with another fav of mine, Auch.
Let’s see if the rest of the game holds up. Can’t wait for release!
