i know the doctor talking to not-donna is depressing but donna talking to not-doctor also hurts. like. she’s expressing that she’s afraid they’re not going to make it back. she’s worried about everything she’s going to miss and how worried her family will be.

she already knows that if she doesn’t make it back shaun won’t move on. he’ll mourn her forever. but she tries to be hopeful! “i hope you get to know him,” she says and there’s an instant where the not-doctor agrees and it feels like. there’s a chance for this second chance to go right. for the doctor to have friends and family again.

The best part of where we are in their story right now is that, thankfully, I don't think that's something we necessarily have to worry about anymore. And that's the most comforting damn thing.

And I'm not saying that as the implication of like, oh now that he has Steven, his tendency to hide and wall himself off from people will magically just disappear, because old habits die hard, y'know? This is how he grew up. I think retreat is very much still in his vocabulary, but not to the extent that it used to be. It'll still be harder for him to communicate, not because he doesn't want to, but because he doesn't know how.

But Steven can learn, and even better, he can teach. There's a lot to be said for an open door and the choice to walk through it, when you decide you're ready. And I think with Steven standing on the other side, Marc's more willing to cross that line and see what's possible for them.

that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.
