i love how you write roan 🥹🥹🥹 what if she sees reader upset about something (sad song or movie? not something super serious) and she cries because you’re sad and she doesn’t want you to be
ty for ur request ♡ fem!reader
Eddie lavishes like a king in the corner of the new couch. This is the life, he thinks, the sentiment strengthened by your foot warming under his thigh and Roan's entire body stretched out in his lap.
He tucks her hair out of her face and presses a soft kiss behind her ear. He loves movie nights. A bowl of jiffy pop popcorn with extra butter and milk duds cools to his left, your body screwed up in a shape to his right. You're so endearing he's stopped being surprised by it, and Roan's his eternal love —he has the perfect girls for company every single day.
"Eddie?" you whisper.
He and Roan both look at you. "Yeah?"
"Does the–" You cover your mouth so Roan can't see. "Does the mommy seahorse die?"
"You've never seen this movie before?" Roan asks.
You drop your hand. "Well, I thought I did, but I guess I fell asleep last time?" You speak with your face turned toward them but your eyes on the TV screen, horror dawning in the pinch of your brows. "No way. No way!"
What follows is a few long minutes of absolute silence as the movie progresses. The mommy seahorse, who's been sick the whole movie, says goodbye in a burst of colour. Eddie isn't sure if he loves watching something this sad with Roan this small, but he supposes she'll feel much worse than this as life goes on. Still, he hugs her nice and tight in case she needs it. She's been known to cry at movies: she cries every time the Part of Your World song plays in The Little Mermaid.
Eddie's cried a couple of times with her.
He's a little surprised when she tears up, though. Looking down at her with pursed lips, Eddie rubs the length of her arm, silky pyjamas cold under his palm. "It's okay," he whispers, pulling her to his chest. "Don't be sad, Ro, it's just a movie."
Roan shakes her head, her shoulders shaking as she crawls out of his lap and into yours. You let your knee drop to accept her. Eddie's slightly offended until the TV screen goes white and the tears running down your cheeks shine in clarity.
"Baby," he says with a snort.
You laugh yourself as Roan sniffles in your lap. "Hey, what's the matter?" you ask her.
"You're crying," Roan says.
"You're crying." You sniffle and wipe her cheeks with your thumbs. "We're silly, huh?"
Roan isn't perturbed by the movie, it's your crying that's affecting her. She does as you'd done, wiping your cheeks dry with her hands before enclosing your shoulders in short arms. "Don't cry, mom. It gets better at the end of the movie. They find the starstone."
You sniff and laugh, your foot shifting from under Eddie as you fold yourself around Roan, almost protectively. "Are you crying 'cos I'm crying? Princess, they're just movie tears. I'm a softie."
"She's a huge softie," Eddie says, lost for what to do besides sit there and watch.
"Are you okay?" Roan asks.
"Baby, I'm fine. It's only a sad movie. I'm okay, I promise." You smile widely. "See?"
Eddie decides nobody is in any real emotional distress, grabbing the popcorn bowl. "You know," —his words stagger as he gets distracted digging for milk duds— "we should start watching other stuff if you guys are gonna fall apart. You're gonna have headaches and I'm gonna have to take care of you both. We could watch one of my tapes–"
"No, dad," Roan says firmly. "No way."
"Which tape? I love you, Eddie, I really love you, but I can't watch your bootleg of Live in Irvine again this week. I'm all Metallica'd out."
"Hey." He holds his hands up. "Whatever."
You and Roan share a guilty laugh. "Maybe I could watch it one more time," Roan says.
"You just feel bad for hurting my feelings."
Roan shakes her head, dark hair bouncing around her cheeks. "That's not true, daddy."
He puts the bowl of popcorn on Roan's play table and leans back, arms over the backs of the sofa with forearms hanging down, cool. He raises his eyebrows at his pouting daughter.
"I– I actually like Metallica," Roan says, an arm behind your neck, her cheek brushing your cheek.
You make a pleased humming sound and nuzzle your cheeks together. "Me too."
Liars. "So we can watch it tonight?" he asks.
You whisper something in Roan's ear.
"Um, no. Y/N's too sad from the movie. I think you need to make her feel better, with, uh…" You whisper again. Roan's eyes widen with understanding. "With The Little Mermaid!"
"Oh, awesome, so we're gonna cry all night?" Eddie asks.
He gets up to put it in the TV. You drag yourself to his side in the corner of the couch and the three of you smush together into a bundle of warmth under a big throw blanket. When Roan cries during Part of Your World, you shush her and dry her cheeks affectionately. Eddie can't help laughing. He loves you both, but you're such gigantic softies it's unreal.
"Would you still fall in love with me if I could speak?" you whisper. On screen, Prince Eric tells Ariel she can't be the one after all, her voice taken by the evil sea witch.
Eddie can't see your face, his head resting on yours. Each word you speak vibrates up. "Of course I would."
"My pick up lines were half the selling point," you argue.
You're a flirt sometimes, he'll give you that. "I'd love you even if you had a fish tail instead of legs. Eric doesn't know how good he's got it. I'd miss your voice." He draws a short line down your arm with his marriage fingertip. "But you'd still be my Y/N."
"That's Disney cheesy," you say with a scoff.
But. You weasel your arm around Roan's front to hug him, too. Gentle, you press a kiss to the slope leading down from his neck. His flirting was cheesy for sure, and it worked like a charm.

Airheaded S/O Headcannons #11: Luffy (One Piece)
Tumblr media
I feel like Luffy would thrive with an S/O who's just as, if not more, stupid than him.
And he genuinely cannot tell you're not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Combined, you and Luffy have one semi-functioning braincell
And 90 % of the time, Nami has it
"LUFFY FELL OVERBOARD AGAIN!!!"
And there you go jumping right in after him.
"I'M COMING CAPTAIN!!"
Ussop and Chopper are standing by the railing horrified and screaming with everything they've got because 'YOU CAN'T SWIM EITHER!!!'
"How did their bounty increase by 20 million!?!?" Nami exclaimed having seeing your newest wanted poster.
Luffy, who was walking by and heard, suddenly had stars in his eyes.
"Really!?!? They're so cool 🤩"
And Nami is smacking the back of his head as hard as she can
"DON'T ENCOURAGE THEM, MORON!!!"
This man loves you with his whole heart and has known you since you were both children
Ace had found you sneaking out Dadan's shack with a huge pile of food and captured you.
"What do we do with them?"
"We could kill them." Sabo suggested.
"Excuse me, I really need to use the bathroom." You wiggled against the rope binding you.
"Like that's gonna work on us!"
"No, excuse me for being rude and leaving. You guys are funny but I really need to pee."
And they hadn't realized you'd already torn through the ropes until you got up and walked away.
They are completely dumbfounded and a little impressed.
Well except for Luffy who had been watching because he wasn't allowed to talk to the 'captive' during 'interrogations'. Whatever that meant.
He's getting up and chasing after you with a huge grin.
"Hey! Come back! I wanna be friends with you!!!"
And Ace and Sabo are the running after him before he can catch up, lecturing him about leaving weirdo people like you alone.
"I mean what kind of person just tears through rope and walks away all unbothered????"
"Me! I do that!"
Cue the screams because how did you manage to climb the treehouse without the ladder???
You meet up again several years after you all had set sail.
Ussop spotted something floating in the water shortly after the crew already left from thriller bark.
A person to be exact.
A person on a wooden plank.
And before he could inform anyone about it, Luffy was already stretching himself over to the castaway.
His eyes bugging out when he saw who it was.
"Y/N????"
Your expression matching his.
"LUFFY???"
"Long time no see. How have you been?"
And the crew is peaking over the Sunny curiously. Because who the hell was this that their captain seemed to be very friendly with?
Friendly than usual considering he his arms were wrapped around you several times, picking you up and swaying you.
"The pirate life is hard. My ships keep sinking. Say, mind if I hop on yours for a while?" You asked hopefully.
There was something even more hopeful in Luffy's as he set you down.
"I've got a better idea. Join my crew!"
"I don't kno- IS THAT A FREAKING SKELETON?!?! HELL YEAH I'M IN!!"
The crew warms up to you almost instantly considering you have the same bright personality as their captain.
And the ones weary of you (Zoro, Nami, and Ussop) become convinced when they see you fight and pull your weight.
"Hey, Luffy! Can we try that one move we used to do when we were smaller??"
All you get is a nod in return before he slingshots you towards a Marine ship.
The result?
You basically cannonballing into the side, only to reappear on the deck as it sinks. Reaching back for Luffy's hand as he lifts you up and flings you towards another. Jumping on after you to join the fight.
Your teamwork is practically unbeatable.
And the fact that you can keep up with Luffy perfectly cements your place on the Sunny.
It's no secret Luffy loves you.
And it's no secret you love him back.
The Pirate Empress Boa Hancock?
She's cool, he guesses.
Shirihoshi the mermaid princess? The most beautiful woman in the world?
She's a huge crybaby.
You? An idiot who broke the aquarium after tapping too hard on the glass to get the 'pretty fishy' to notice you?
You're his.
He doesn't make a big deal out of the way he feels.
He doesn't get all blushy or nervous around you
Instead he feels pure happiness and the most at peace he's ever been
Luffy will not try to court you the way a certain cook might court the ladies on the Sunny.
No big or grand gestures
Also not shy showing you affection.
He's known you for so long that gestures like that come naturally.
Holding hands to explore a new island?
Check
Wrestling with you on the deck of the Sunny?
Check
Sharing and stealing food from each other's plate?
Check
Trading around Shanks' straw hat on the daily?
Double check
The closest he'll get to confessing is at a time where the two of you are alone in the crows nest together.
"After I became the king of the pirates, let's keep having adventures together." And he'll put his signature strawhat on your head.
"Who says I'm going anywhere? This is the ship of dreams right? Well my dream is for us to stay together forever. So make it come true, captain."
It's at that point he realizes he'd follow you anywhere you asked him to. The same way you were following him now.
Will Luffy baby you?
You're insane if you think he will.
Because it's just the two of you encouraging each other to do stupid shit.
Actively trying to outdo each other
Luffy catches a huge fish?
You're jumping in the water because you saw a shark.
You broke into the kitchen at night to steal from the fridge?
Luffy is lugging it out so you two can have a midnight snack in the middle of the deck.
Both of you are being chased by Pacifistas?
It's a game to see who can destroy more.
"Do you think if I start training after I eat I'll throw up?" You asked.
"Let's test it out!" Luffy encouraged.
Only to find out that yes, you will in fact throw up training after eating.
"Well now we know!"
Luffy will call you the most bizarre nicknames he can come up with.
Get used to: Meat stick, pork chop, swimmy (because you cannot swim for the life of you), cannonball, and some messed of version of your name. (Think of how he calls Law and Kidd, Traffy and Jaggy)
But occasionally, in the rarest moments known to man, he will call you his treasure.
Luffy will get incredibly jealous if someone outside of the crew talks to you.
With the Strawhats, he doesn't care. You all need to get along anyways.
Brook wants to play you a song to see if it's okay?
Fantastic because you two have the same taste in shanties.
Zoro wants to train with you and see if he can make his attacks any stronger?
Hell yeah! Kick his ass!
You're Sanji's taste tester?
Sneak him something out will ya?
Franky and Ussop want to test out a new invention on you?
So cool!!!!! Tell him what it does when you're finished!!!
He's over the moon with you spending time with them.
But if it's a marine, another pirate, or just a random citizen, he's fighting them.
He's incredibly immature and will not let anyone get too friendly with you.
Luffy will bite, and he will not let go until that person apologizes and leaves.
Man or woman, doesn't matter.
He's throwing hands, gum-gum gatling all the way.
Second gear if he's pissy enough.
All in all, you two don't need a brain to be able to tell you love each other.
Next Up: Uryu Ishida
An: I'm back baby. 🫶 (Also yes I watch one piece in dub pls don't bully me 👉👈)

since y'all seemed to want this.... here's the live notes i took while listening to each song for the first time (bold are thoughts i had during later listens)
fortnight:
‘i was a functioning alcohol till nobody noticed my new aesthetic’ what the fuck does that even mean…
love the fact she gave post the female collab treatment. don’t wanna hear what he has to say.
they’re voices sound actually good together?
some pockets of the melody are catchy
okay i don’t hate this
ttpd:
her red flags are on fire in this song lol
this seems very half-cooked
also jacks weird mixing continues to plague us all
CHARLIE PUTH???? WHAT THE FUCK WHY HE HERE
tattooed golden retriever??? ……no way
my boy breaks all his favorite toys:
i blinked and it’s half over
this also is like… half cooked and didn’t need to be released tbh
i love the way she sings the second verse tho
down and:
the production does not match the vibe
did tpain produce this
i’m… kinda bored lol
like i have nothing to say this also didn’t need to be released tbh
this grew on me a lot actually
so long london
the production is so futuristic?
oh im obsessed with how she sounds on this one
her talk-singing in the verses is great
honest lyrics without any clunky unnecessary metaphors! a win!!
the fast-paced verses with th slow chorus is really really cool
a favorite so far
daddy i love him
i can barely hear her? the bad mixing continues
‘growing up precociously sometimes means not growing up at all’ oh yeah WE KNOW
is this…… is this about her dating matty and loving how people hate him… no fucking way she’s this stupid
SHE IS BEING THIS STUPID
‘it’s white noise’ yeah yeah that’s exactly how id describe him
.... anyway y'all remember when fans really believed the little mermaid theory and this song was supposed to be about how 'joe stole her voice' lmaooo
we will pretend this one doesn't exist!
fresh out the slammer
are we getting another ‘i didn’t cheat technically’ song lol
what is this weird tempo change….
okay kinda catchy
it’s sounds exactly like you are in love at the end….. jack is really out of tricks
florida
‘my friends all smell like weed or little babies’ what the fuck is she even talking about anymore
i’m sorry but i’m laughing at the phrase ‘fuck me up florida’
again the production sounds so detached from the vocals
i honestly still have no idea how i feel about this one
guilt as sin
an real instrument?? wow crazy
okay she’s kinda cute? catchy and fun, love the melody
i love when she goes up at the end of the vocal
okay…. i don’t mind this one she’s catchy, a little too long and drawn out but cute
who’s afraid of little old me?
what is this production? it’s way too soft to be as threatening as they’re trying for
why did jack push her vocals back so far when she’s supposed to scream…. that’s ruins the whole thing…. she’s supposed to be screaming and threatening….. not quiet and far away…. hello
this song is trying very hard to be threatening but it’s not... vigilante shit 2.0
‘you wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum they raised me’…………… upper middle-class pennsylvania?
‘i’m drunk on my own tears isn’t that what they all say, that’ll  sue you if you step on my lawn’ okay bar?
the bridge was good but that’s about it.
i can fix him
…………… not another matty song oh god
‘i can handle a dangerous man’…… im too stunned to speak this is so embarrassing
wow taylor really is that girl who like ‘women supporting women’ and then dates/defends a racist bf…. a walking example of white feminism
intersectional feminism found dead.... twice....
loml
okay this is really nice?
I WAS ACTUALLY ENJOYING THE SONG WHY DID SHE RUIN IT BY SAYING ‘MR STEAL YOUR GIRL’ 💀
if we ignore that one line we're good this is good. im refusing to let that line ruin such a good song
i can do it with a broken heart
‘bitch smile’ why are there so many cringey lyrics on this album lol
what is this song omg why do i kind of like it
taylor please learn depressed isn’t a synonym for sad
they recycled the mastermind production
wait till taylor finds out most of the entire world is sad while they're doing their job and has to pretend they're not
smallest man who ever lived
oh i think i like this?
‘you said normal girls were boring’ GIRL AND YOU DIDNT IMMEDIATELY GET UP AND LEAVE??? EWWWW??? she's not beating the pick-me allegations
'i just wanna know if rusting my sparking summer was the goal' okay love that line
i like this a lot
the alchemy
no….. no way this is real
i cannot
THE SPORTS METAPHORS WE JOKED SHED DO THAT AND SHE ACTUALLY DID IT OH NO
touchdown ✅ teams ✅ benches ✅ winning streak ✅ the league ✅
she’s doing…… the worst thing ever this is so laughable
the corny lyrics are on overload
‘this time it’s heroine with an e’ didn’t she write folklore? i can’t remember
that literally was an snl parody of a taylor song
clara bow
love how the guitar sounds… bet money this is an aaron track
a stevie nicks reference!! a win!!!
i like this one a lot no cringey lyrics yet
nope never mind she name-dropped herself don’t like that
overall really liked it tho
the black dog
i think i like it?? this is kind of what i expected the album to be
okay for once the weird production choices kind of pay off
imgonnagetyouback
kinda catchy?
she loves a fancy car getting wrecked line
the pre-choruses are the best part
this would’ve been better without the jack of it all bc he loves a song that doesnt build to anything
this just comes down to personal preference: i don’t like her lighter vocals with jack’s heavy production (ie most of lover lol)
the albatross
a real instrument!!! production that matches taylor’s voice and is well mixed!!! aaron’s arrived!!
i think it’s solid, has good writing and she sounds great. that's about it.
chloe or sam or…
took me a solid minute to have any semblance of a fuck to know what was going on but okay
okay i love this one
wayyyy more emotive than like… most of the original album
a lot of the 2nd version (or whatever this is lol) are way more emotive, maybe because her voice isnt drenched in reverb so we can actually hear her voice emote better
how did it end
this sounds like an old school adele song?
i love this one too….
her being upset people wanna know what happened but then also feeding it while promoting the album oop
i love the story of this one it's so refreshing
so high school
THE PRODUCTION is so good ugh aaron never fails
the man here is a walking red flag girl and the lyrics are ~not it~ but the production is too pretty to hate it
fuck these lyrics are so bad lol
maybe if i disassociate hard enough i can ignore the lyrics and just listen to the production and vibe
give me a karaoke version of this song and we'd be so back
i hate it here
i mentioned disassociation and she made a whole song about it!!!! this one’s mine!!!!
‘without all the racists’ GIRL HUH
WHAT WAS THE REASON
also... girl don’t act like we don’t know you’re fine with that lololololol
if i had a dime for every time i was liking a song to then have it slapped away because of a bad, out-of-pocket lyric……
thank you aimee
this isn’t grabbing my attention
oh the bridge is interesting
it’s meh
i will never be thanking the people that bullied me thanks tho
i look in peoples windows
what do you mean aaron didn’t produce this??? it’s well-made and has instruments?
i love this one, again a really interesting and unique concept that's very refreshing to hear at this point when a lot of the songs feel repetitive
the prophecy
aaron guitar!!!!
she’s nice i like her
i've really grown to love how she sings this one, the melodies are cool.. however i feel like we've heard the same melody.. like on this exact album... where she upturns at the end of every line...
cassandra
this seems very…. familiar… idk i feel like we’ve covered this (i mean there are 31 songs we’ve already covered everything lol)
this is such an aaron song, that's a classic 'the national' piano
i like her voice in this one tho, sounds good
peter
oh love i love this
now this? THIS feels the most like a taylor swift song
once again she’s at her best with a simple instrument and emotive simple lyrics
the piano reminds me of champagne problems
the bolter
i like this! the chorus is so cute
oh i like that ending line a lot!
she’s cute, a little long and drawn out but cute
robin
i haven’t seen anyone talk about this one
welp…. i literally have no feelings toward this one but sounds pretty!
the manuscript
oh this is soooooooo powerful
i love this concept
her ending the album on another introspective album that sums everything up a la dear reader yep yep!!
if you actually read of this ily 💗

OMG!?!??! I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS SONG (and AU), RIGHT NOW!!!
(By Lydia the bard
TINKERBELL VILLAIN SONG - Fall Little Wendy Bird Fall | Song by Lydia the Bard and Tony | Animatic
The title^)
youtube
First of all the cover art is AMAZING, Tink is SO pretty, the sparkle and lines on the wings, her grin, HER HAIR, HER EARS, HER DRESS,
Also, "Fall Little Wendy Bird Fall" is a great title
Now the video itself and its lyrics, i really REALLY want to just compliment every single frame of this video, its so beautiful, so well done, its like it was blessed by The Muses of greek mythology,
Okay so the lyrics at 0:45
"You dont seem to quite understand what is at stake,
This messed up little family that i had to make"
Not only is this line so beautiful with the way her voice sounds, its pretty much a nod to the fact Tink and her friends kidnapped peter pan and the lost kids to keep her and her friends alive
(0:55) \/
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"If i could let them all go home please know that i would
But it'd do more harm than good"
Just Tink expressing her guilt that she and her friends kidnapped the lost boys so that they could keep existing, but like, JWHSEAJKHWED, she ofc doesn't want her or her friends to die, and since people are slowly not believing in fairies anymore, they're slowly going extinct, ALSO, Fawn and Silvermist are DEAD, so yeah, that messes with someones head
AAAALSOOOO, i LOVE their silhouettes, the height and weight differences instead of them all having the same height and weight like in the movies, plus, i LOVE that despite not looking like how they do in the movies, you can probably still tell who is who,
ALSO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even if it wasnt intentional, i like how in kinda faraway shots, Tink has a more cuter roundish look, while in closer shots shes more edgy and more intimidating(? if that's the right word), kinda showing how others view her (kinda?) as a cute fairy, maybe underestimated, but yknow, close up, shes plotting to kill a child
(1:15)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how Tink is gesturing in this scene, cause 1. It conveys to the audience what she wants from the lost boys and 2. Canonically, when fairies talk, people usually just hear jingling of bells, so shes gesturing because shes also conveying what she wants to the lost boys
1:23
Tumblr media
"Swear its nothing personal, its a necessary evil"
I just love this line because it is a necessary evil, she needs the lost boys and peter pan in neverland to believe in fairies so that they exist, and Wendy is pretty much a threat, since she makes the lost boys want to grow up with families,
Also, the lost boys look so cute in here, i cant remember their names tho, one is holding a slingshot, aiming at wendy, one is holding rocks , and one has a stick , so Tink just told these children to assassinate Wendy, or at least attack her.
1:35
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how the kids explain that Tink make them do it, and Peter Pan just glares at Tink, and i love that I'm pretty sure that Peter isn't mad/doesnt blame the lost boys
As seen in this scene where Pete is smiling and stuff at the Lost Boys and/or at Wendy
Tumblr media
1:55
Tumblr media
I love how Tink refers to Wendy as a "Nasty little spark" because, a spark can turn into a fire, damaging a lot of stuff and people, pretty much saying that Wendy has to be snuffed out before she causes a fire,
Tumblr media
"Setting fires inside my house is just not allowed"
Pretty much referring to the fact that Wendy, the spark, is creating a fire, aka, making the lost boys want to grow up and go back to the real world, making them not believe in fairies anymore, thus, making her and her friends die, which is, not allowed.
Also. the fear in Tink's eyes is so fear, her expression is on point, the mix of concern and fear is just, so beautiful, also i love her pointed ears
2:17
Tumblr media
First of all, this screenshot does not do justice to the actual design of the mermaid (siren?), cause they are AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, GORGEUS.
Also, the fact that Tink is persuasive enough to convince someone to kill Wendy in such a short amount of time is impressive, and the fact that the mermaids agreed so quickly is also impressive,
Tumblr media
When it failed, the absolute horror and shock on Tink's face? Shes horrified that another plan of hers failed, and shes scared that her friends might die, like, wow
Tumblr media
The despair on her face is just so...asdjwoaijdoiwajd
3:38
The fact that Peter Pan (i cant even give him a nickname cause Pete sounds different and P.P. is just wrong and Pan is just A Thing), first at the gust of wind that blows away the pixie dust (which keeps the ship afloat) he covered his eyes, maybe cause the dust or his hair in his eyes, then he looks at Tink in anger and shock and probably some confusion, then looks at Wendy, in concern and fear,
Theory: Pan knows that, since Tink doesnt want the lost boys to leave, and he knows that gust of wind was from the fairies, and Tink's dislike and hatred to WEndy, that Wendy was probably the only one not going to be saved, which is why he only looks at her and tries to save her (that or he's a SIMPPPPPPP /j)
3:50
Tumblr media
The fact that you can see Wendy screaming??? Chills,
Tumblr media
And the black screen right after, signalling Wendy's death is just amazing
Anyways, overall, what im saying is
THIS SONG IS AMAZING GO CHECK IT OUT, GO CHECK OUT THIS PERSONS CHANNEL, THEY HAVE GOOD VILLAIN SONGS, THEY EVEN HAVE ENCANTO!!!!

Floyd, Kalim: The Way of Water
I was wondering how the artwork would frame the sitting boys, but I guess having Floyd floating there on his butt is fine fjeviwgxkwjwhfoen I don’t know what the alternative would be…
It's nice to learn more about the land boot camp the Octatrio went to; Floyd's vignettes indicate that merpeople need passports and that they went to a zoo as part of the program.
A Tale as Old as Time.
Tumblr media
Museums could be such snore fests sometimes. Sure, the place had an entire section dedicated to merpeople history, but it was nothing compared to what the Atlantica Memorial Museum boasted under the sea: the Mermaid Princess's silver comb, a replica of the Sea Witch's cauldron, bones of a sea dragon, a statue of the Sea King...
Here? All they had were some crummy paintings.
Floyd tilted his head back, taking in merman arriving in a dolphin-drawn chariot. He was an older man that sported bushy brows and a grand white beard that flowed in the water, his physique muscular and imposing. There was a regal presence about him, perhaps in how upright he stood, or in the glisten of the crown upon his head or the gauntlets cuffing his wrists. With his trident in hand, it was clear who he was.
The ruler of all the oceans. The waves obeyed his every whim, the sea and all its spoils bowing to his power. He, the Sea King.
Meh, what’s so great about him? So stiff and uptight. It’s be so much better workin’ for the Sea Witch.
Floyd's eyes flickered to the boy next to him, who seemed far more interested in the painting than he was. A steady grin crept onto his face, and he leaned in close.
Floyd pounced, hooking a long arm around Kalim's shoulder and yanking him over. The eel peered down at him, a single golden orb colliding with a pair of garnets. Leering, Floyd jerked his head at the depiction of the Sea King.
"Ne, ne, Otter-chan. What'cha think of this one?"
Any sane person might have been paralyzed with fear encountering Floyd in a dimly lit room, but not Kalim. No, Kalim was not sane at all.
The dorm leader greeted his peer with a smile so wide it could fill the horizon. "Floyd!! I'm so excited I get to see more of your history."
He blinked. "You actually like studying this kinda thing? Are you even any good at it?"
"Nope, not really!!" Kalim confessed (perhaps a little too easily). "I was looking at this painting and going, 'His beard's so impressive!' It reminds me of the one my dad has. I won't remember all the details later, but I'll always remember how cool the Sea King looks."
"It goes in one ear and out the other. Why bother then? Just dedicate your time and energy to stuff that actually interests ya."
"But it does interest me. It's fun learning about where your classmates come from! I heard humans and merpeople weren't always on good terms."
"Yeah. Back when the Sea King still ruled, there were tooons of rules forbidding merpeople from coming into contact with humans." Floyd held up a finger for each one he counted off. "No going to the surface world, no owning human stuff, no exploring shipwrecks... even no music at one point. You'd think Goldfishy wrote the lawbook."
Of course, even if those rules were in place, he would still totally disregard them. No one—not royalty, not his parents—could stop Floyd from venturing into the unknown.
"Whoa, the Sea King sounds like he was super strict and scary! I don't think I could live without music..." Kalim's face dropped. "He looks like such a nice person in the painting though."
Floyd rolled his eyes. "Cuz he lost his wife to a human ship. After that, he got all paranoid, thinking himans and merpeople are too different to coexist. He got especially protective over his daughters. The Sea King had seven of 'm and he breathed down all of their necks.”
"Ooooh!" Kalim didn't even bat an eye at the number (Floyd was sure it paled next to the number of siblings he had running around in his home.) "So the Sea King just wanted to protect his loved ones and make sure nothing sad like that ever happened again. He's a good guy after all!"
He now regarded Floyd with eager, sparkling eyes. "Wow, you know so much about this!! It's crazy thinking about how different things were in the past."
"Duh. It'd be boring if things stayed the same all the time." The eel smirked. He let go of Kalim and stepped back, giving a playful twirl, arms stretching out above him. "Ehehehe! Good thing the Mermaid Princess ended up opening doors for us to come onto land~"
Kalim beamed. "That's right!! She did! We wouldn’t be able to be friends without the Mermaid Princess’s help.”
The word gave Floyd pause, a rock tossed along his path as he brought his foot down upon it, snagging his step. Friend. He didn’t like spoken in that saccharine, trusting tone.
It was sticky and sweet, stuck in his teeth. Like cotton candy residue yet to be washed away by the waves, or sweat accumulated from summer heat. A gross feeling.
“You’re bein’ way too generous with your definitions again,” Floyd groaned, peeling away. “Cut it out, or I’ll get annoyed.”
Kalim (unwisely) laughed. Not at Floyd, but with him. “Oh, hey. When you think about it, we’re not really that different.”
“Mmm? What are you saying now, Otter-chan? Did all the sunbathing finally melt your brain?”
“In the Scalding Sands, waterways are really important. We use them for trade and travel. It’s the same for the Coral Sea. With all that water, it’s convenient for those sorts of things.” Kalim said matter-of-factly. “We’re using those same waterways now. We’re connected by water.”
“A good part of Twisted Wonderland is water,” Floyd pointed out. “You sayin’ everyone can be friends with everyone?”
Kalim nodded eagerly. “The Sea King was probably wrong. Humans and merpeople are actually very similar. I think the Mermaid Princess knew that too, and she wanted to help others recognize it.”
Floyd stared at Kalim, the moment long and hard. He wasn’t irritated anymore, only a little disappointed. Maybe mildly disgusted. “… Otter-chan, you’re so happy it hurts.”
“Thanks!”
“That wasn’t a compliment.” Floyd sighed. The energy and fight had been rapidly drained from in over the course of the short exchange, leaving him as wilted as a salted slug. “Aaaah, whatever. I’m tired of this already. I’m bailing.”
He turned on his heel and made for the exit and into the adjacent room. Already, Floyd could see a platinum frame of the Sorcerer of the Sand in the distance, bony fingers clasping a golden scarab.
“Wait up, I’m come with!” Kalim called after him. “I can teach you about my country’s history too!
That was how water was—always seeking to follow the flow. One body leading straight into another.
Floyd picked up his pace, arms pumping. (No running in the museum? Screw the rules.) Adrenaline deposited into his bloodstream, and he was hit with a rush.
Suddenly excited again, maybe a little interested in what a certain otter had to offer. A game, a chase, a thrill.
This is what he had come to the surface for.
Not rules or restrictions or a royal bossing him about. Not even friendship, as Kalim had suggested. Just fun, plain and simple.
It looked like he was going to get it.
Floyd grinned and shouted back, “Catch me if you can then!!”
And hurled right into the next room over.
Bless the Mermaid Princess.

Tumblr media
"Eric, not again-"
"Mother, please, don't take this out of proportion." Eric's shoulders slumped down and he dragged his hand over his mouth and chin, trying to keep the placid smile on his face but he was finding it hard to stay upbeat.
She didn't understand.
She was never going to understand Eric's need- no, his primal desire to be anywhere but here. It was wired into his DNA to want to be out on the open sea, voyaging to other places to see their cultures and make his own kingdom modern and relevant. His mother might be content to stay in the same place, stuck in the same time loop, but Eric couldn't do that. He couldn't wait around and watch the whole world pass him by, he was too tempted to go out and be part of that world than stay here and ignore it.
For the past two years Eric had done as his mother had requested, he had limited his explorations like she'd asked him to. He didn't go too far afield, he stayed close and kept the travels small, no more than three weeks away at a time. When he and (Y/n) got married just over a year ago, he barely left the kingdom and he knew it had been the happiest he had ever seen his mother.
Right up until she realised (Y/n) would journey on Eric's voyages too and that meant (Y/n) would spur Eric's love for the sea instead of tame it.
"It's a two week journey, somewhere I've been before just to get supplies."
Eric laid his fork on his plate and pushed back in his chair, feeling a headache forming behind his eyes. This wasn't a new travel to an unknown, unchartered country, this was an Island only a six day journey from here that had more advanced medicines and books and herbs and foods. It was a new ally to trade with, it was far safer than many of the other voyages he had been on in his time.
He pressed the back of his hand against his mouth but when he lifted his eyes to look across the table, his lips curved into a small smile and his dimples appeared in the creases hof his cheeks. (Y/n) was smiling at him.
She didn't even have to do anything and she had Eric's full attention. His eyes raked over his wife sitting across from him, watching how she swirled the tip of her finger around her glass like she was trying to make music with it. And when her head tilted to the side, he noticed how her hair fell against the nape of her neck, effectively hiding the mark he had put there last night.
Eric knew (Y/n) had only come down to dinner this evening because she knew he was going to have this discussion with his mother and (Y/n) knew how well it would go down. She hadn't been feeling well and she wasn't hungry but the thought of leaving Eric to argue with his stern mother didn't seem like the best idea.
"Please do not tell me that you're going as well?" His mother looked over at (Y/n) who tried to smile, murmuring a quiet 'no' in response.
Shaking his head, Eric banged his hands down on the table and stood up with a groan.
"Now you know I wouldn't take such a risk. This is the last trip, you have my word." Eric slowly walked over to where his mother was sat near the window that looked out onto the sea that was calling his name. He didn't know why she would even have to ask when she already knew the answer.
Eric wouldn't take such a high risk of bringing (Y/n) along on any kind of trip or expedition when she was pregnant. (Y/n) knew the moment she told Eric about the pregnancy that it was the end of their shared expeditions for a few years at least. From the moment they got married, any trip Eric went on, he took his wife with him. He barely let her leave his side when he went anywhere on any business, official or not.
Now it was different. If he went on the trip and the seas became rough or they hit a storm or a bad tide, Eric was risking the safety of his family and he couldn't have that playing on his mind. It meant that until the baby was born, (Y/n) was grounded, so to speak.
And after the baby was born, Eric could already foresee that he was going to be having a battle with his mother when he wanted to take his little family with him on an expedition. Eric himself had started going on ships when he was only five and if their child was anything like Eric and (Y/n), they would be desperate to be out on the sea. And Eric wasn't sure how he would be able to go on any trips when he knew he would be leaving behind his wife and child.
"Good," His mother's voice was quiet but something softened in her eyes when Eric rested his hand on her shoulder before he looked out the window.
He had to take this trip now because there wasn't going to be another opportunity for months. Eric couldn't take the risk of going on this trip in two or three months time in case something happened while he was away or (Y/n) went into early labour. He had to be here, his wife needed him.
Closing her eyes, (Y/n) slouched back in her chair and rubbed her forehead, wishing the migraine behind her eyes to disappear. She couldn't even read one of her books this morning with how awful her head felt and being around food right now wasn't doing her any favours. She had eaten as much as she could but now she just felt sick to her stomach.
"I was thinking, what if-"
"Eric?"
Turning away from the window, Eric looked over at (Y/n) when her strained voice echoed through the room. He felt his heart jumping up into his throat when he looked at his wife.
He could see the faraway look in her eyes that weren't even in focus anymore and with her hand over her mouth, he thought for a moment that she was going to be sick. But his body jolted and shivered when (Y/n)'s eyes rolled to the back of her head and her head lolled backwards.
When he saw (Y/n)'s body start to fall from the chair, Eric moved quicker than he could register. He rounded the other side of the table and went down on his knees beside his wife's chair just as she slumped down. (Y/n)'s head flopped onto his shoulder and her weight fell on his chest but he coiled his arms around her waist. Leaning her back so she stayed seated on the chair with her upper body resting on him.
"Sweetheart, are you with me?" His hand moved to cup her cheek and he smoothed his thumb beneath her eye to try and get a response but all he got was a small murmur. He pressed the back of his hand against her forehead, clicking his tongue when he felt her skin that was burning to the touch.
Eric took a deep breath and pushed up a little higher until he was level with the chair. He moved an arm under (Y/n)'s knees and the other stayed around her waist so he could pick her up when he stood to his full height.
"Grimsby, could you fetch the doctor please?"
"Of course, sir." Grimsby held the dining room door open and watched Eric slowly head down the corridor before he moved in the other direction to call for the doctor.
By the time Eric almost reached their room, he noticed (Y/n) beginning to stir in his arms. Her head nuzzled against his shoulder and he could feel her hand fisting his shirt tight enough that the buttons almost started to pop. He pressed his lips to her burning forehead and nudged open their chamber door with his hip.
"Eric?"
"I'm here, sweetheart." Eric gently lowered (Y/n) down onto the bed and moved his hand to hold the back of her head and his other stayed around her back. He leaned his head down, burying his face in her hair when she kept tight hold of his shirt and pressed her face into his chest, inhaling his scent.
They stayed like that for a few moments and Eric's mind began to run away without him for a while. But his eyes opened again when (Y/n) let out a small groan. He slowly pulled back and moved to sit down on the edge of the bed beside her but when he saw her hand move to cover her mouth, he quickly scanned the floor around him.
He grabbed the bowl hidden just under the bed for morning sickness and emergencies such as this and held the bowl out just as (Y/n) threw up. Eric moved his free hand and tangled his hands in her hair, moving the strands from her face.
"It's alright, let it out, love. Grimsby's gone to fetch the doctor."
Eric bit down on his nail and tightened his arm around his waist. His back was pressed up against the wall next to the chamber door and his knees were bent outwards as he watched the doctor anxiously.
It hadn't taken long for the doctor to arrive at the palace and (Y/n) had come back around properly by the time he arrived but it didn't stop Eric from worrying. He watched the doctor check (Y/n)'s pulse, take her temperature, check her vitals and do a small assessment before he turned around to look at Eric.
"Is she alright?"
"A mild fever your highness, but she should be fine. I'd just like to take some blood."
"And the baby?"
"Perfectly healthy sir, with rest and medicine her highness will recover in the next few days."
Eric felt like he could have fainted but a timid smile graced his lips and he nodded in relief. When he saw the doctor getting a needle and vile out to take some blood, Eric advanced towards the bed and sat down next to (Y/n). He could see she still didn't look herself, she looked like she was about to faint again and she was flushed and starting to sweat even though he had opened the balcony doors to let in great gusts of air.
When he sat down beside her, (Y/n) smiled and let her head loll onto his shoulder. She could feel his arm wrapping around her shoulders and she moved her head down a little until she was leaning on his chest instead so she could hear his heartbeat.
It felt like there was a drum inside her head that was constantly being hit and her ears were thudding but it was the heat surrounding her that felt the worst. Her body was on fire like she was lying on hot coals and she was sweating through her dress but she wanted to be as close to Eric as possible. He didn't seem to mind and (Y/n) smiled softly when she felt the back of his hand against her temple once again.
It had to be the fifth time he had tried to check her temperature in the last hour or so but it was sweet. He seemed to be praying that he could wish or kiss away her temperature.
As soon as the needle pushed into the crease of her elbow, (Y/n) felt herself becoming lightheaded and her stomach churned.
"Sweetheart?"
Eric looked down at his wife leaning on his chest before a sigh passed through his lips when he realised she had fainted again. Needles were never her strong point, he couldn't count the times he'd seen her blackout or faint when having her bloods taken.
He let himself relax back into the pillows and laid back, easing (Y/n) back into his chest with his arms loosely looped around her waist. At least this way she was going to get some rest for now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"And just what are you doing?"
A tired smile formed on (Y/n)'s lips when she felt a pair of familiar, rough hands resting on her shoulders and a chin placed on top of her head. She could feel Eric's bare chest pressing up against her back and she didn't have to turn around to know his hair was wet and stuck up at all angles.
Eric had just come out of the bath and when he walked back into their shared room, something spiked in his chest when he couldn't see (Y/n) anywhere. He had left her lying in bed and when he came back she wasn't there. But when his eyes scanned round their room, he saw her standing at the balcony doors.
"Getting some fresh air." (Y/n) leaned her head back on Eric's shoulder when his hands moved down from her shoulders and along her arms before finally securing around her waist with his hands on her bump.
"You're supposed to be resting, you still have a fever you know." Eric could still feel the heat radiating off of her and soaking through his skin. She wasn't as flushed or sweating through her layers anymore but she was still burning.
"And you're supposed to be setting off tomorrow."
"How can I do that when my lady isn't well? The trip can be postponed for a week. It'll keep my mother happy too."
(Y/n) knew better than to try the subject with Eric, she knew he wasn't going to entertain the idea of leaving in the morning if she wasn't one hundred percent herself. He was only going to go if he could be assured next week that she was back to her normal health and not at risk of getting worse or becoming ill again. It would be the same if it was Eric who was ill, (Y/n) wouldn't leave him behind.
"Come on now, back to bed." Eric pressed a kiss to the side of (Y/n)'s head before he slowly steered them around and walked back towards the bed, (Y/n) still wrapped up in his arms.
(Y/n) could feel her head spinning when she laid back down but her lips curved up into a bright smile when Eric hovered over her. His hands pressed into the pillow on either side her her head and his knees pinned her legs between his thighs, caging her beneath him.
With him hovering over her and the bright sunshine cascading into the room creating a glowing aura around him, he looked like some kind of angel above her. His smile made his eyes crease and the dimples flare out on his face and his cheeks puffed out. (Y/n) could stay like this forever just staring up at the man she married like he was the only person in the world worth looking at.
"What's so funny?" A smile worked its way onto Eric's face but he didn't know what his wife was quietly chuckling at. Her smile was infectious even though he didn't know why she was smiling, he couldn't help it when he looked down on the beautiful girl beneath him.
"Someone likes the sound of your voice."
It took a moment for Eric to realise what (Y/n) was talking about until he felt her reaching up to grab his hand that was resting next to her head. He leaned his weight onto his left hand so his weight didn't drop down onto (Y/n) and he let her guide his hand down until his palm was resting on her lower stomach. After a second, Eric pressed his hand a bit firmer on her stomach but his lips parted when he felt the small movement of their baby.
"They know their dad's voice." The smile on his face couldn't of been prouder.
Rivals or so they thought
─═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═
➼ Pairing - Luca Kaneshiro x GN!Vtuber Reader
➼ Content - Established relationship, Playful rivalry, fluff & hopefully half correct translations (I know Japanese, a little bit of Swedish and the others I'm still a beginner in but I'm learning so if something isn't translated right, I apologize, I tried my best~! English translations will be included :3)
➼ Ft. Ike Eveland, Ver Vermillion, Vezalius Bandage, Enna Alouette, Mika Melatika, Nina Kosaka and Reimu Endou
➼ ⚠️ Please remember I only write for the personas you see on your screen. I do not and will not write for the people behind the models. Please also remember that behind the models there are very real people with very real emotions. Please be respectful towards our beloved Nijisanji EN livers and do your best to separate the real people from the persona reflected on your screen. Thank you so much and enjoy the story ⚠️
➼ Summary - You debuted in Nijisanji as another mob boss. You were known as Luca's rival in your lore. Behind the scenes, your lore couldn't be more wrong. And it all comes out during one stream... ─═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═──═
Today was the day you debuted, you sat at your desk going through your slide show, letting the viewers get to know you;
" As you know from my lore, I am another mob boss. " You said with a smile looking at your character reference sheet before looking over at the chat;
Chat: ChairKun223: Luca's rival right? What's that like YVT/N?
You couldn't help but smile at the question, adjusting yourself in the chair you hummed softly thinking about a good response,
" I admire him, he and I are polar opposites. He's always smiles. I know when to be serious when it counts. He views his work as play. " You said trying to sound bitter. The image of your golden retriever like lover popped into your head and you had to fight back a fond smile to stay in character for your debut.
You spent the next hour going through the rest of the slide show and talking to chat. Finally ending, your door flung open and your chair was spun around before you were grabbed up off the chair and spun around in a tight hug;
" YOU WERE SO POG BABE! " The one and only Luca Kaneshiro beamed hugging you tight and spinning you around. Your laughs echoed in the room hugging him back.
Despite being rivals in your lore, you were the blond mafia boss's lover and you had been with him long before you debuted, hell you've been together long before HIS debut. He adored you and you adored him. It was hard not to, his puppy like personality and his sense of humor. You two just clicked. Of course your friends and co workers knew about your relationship with Luca and they fully supported you, you hadn't made your relationship public so neither the Lucubs or your community knew about you and Luca.
" Thank you my love! I could hear you watching my stream in the living room. " You said with a cheeky smile, causing him to blush ever so lightly. He set you back down on the floor and he place a soft loving kiss on your cheek.
" I wish we didn't have to hide our relationship! The Lucubs would be so happy that we're together! " Luca whined and grasped your shoulders shaking you lightly.
" I know, me too but gotta make the lore seem real ya goof. " You replied holding onto his wrists as he shook you lightly as not to hurt you.
The next year was full of so many fun collabs with Luca and other streamers. You always had so much fun with the other NIJI EN members. Spending time with them both on streams and outside of streams. You remembered being a simple viewer at one point, watching the NIJI EN talents and wishing you could do what they do and be apart of their world (Little mermaid reference XD ANYWAYS-). And not long after Luca introduced you to Tazumi san, you were given an opportunity to audition and be apart of NIJI EN which you jumped at right away. When you were accepted, Luca was over the moon. He couldn't stop talking about it for days and he even helped you get a model commission and helped you write your lore.
There came a day when you organized a goose goose duck collab, wanting to do another collab with language switch ups, You invited Ike, Ver, Vezalius, Enna, Mika, Nina and Reimu and Luca wanted to tag along and watch the game in VC, you being the sucker you are, agreed to let him sit in. And of course you assigned each a language, You would be sticking with Japanese, Ike had Swedish, Ver had Korean, Zali had French, Enna had Chinese, Mika had Indonesian, Nina had Russian and Reimu was given Spanish. Since you had watched the other collab the language switch up was used in, you knew this was about to get chaotic but you were also incredibly excited. Everything was set up and stream started;
" Alright~! Hello everyone! So as you can see, we're doing another goose goose duck stream with the language twist, so would everyone like to introduce themselves in the languages they were given? " You asked with a smile, Ver deciding to start out;
" Hi everyone, my name is Ver Vermillion, I'm speaking in Korean! 안녕하세요 여러분! 내 이름은 Ver Vermillion, 저는 한국어로 말하고 있습니다! (Hi everyone, my name is Ver Vermillion, I'm speaking in Korean!) "
Ike jumped in straight after Ver,
"Hello everyone, I am Ike Eveland, a Virtual Novelist from Nijisanji EN and part of Luxiem! And one more time, I am talking Swedish. Hej alla, jag är Ike Eveland, a virtuell romanförfattare från Nijisanji EN och en del av Luxiem! Och en gång till, jag är talar Svenska. (Hello everyone, I am Ike Eveland, a virtual novelist from Nijisanji EN and part of Luxiem! And one more time, I am talking Swedish.) "
Zali followed suit with his introduction,
" Hi, hi everyone! My name is Vezalius Bandgae or Zali and today I am speaking French! Salut, Salut tout le monde~! Mon nom est Vezalius Bandage ou Zali et aujourd’hui Je suis parlant français! (Hi, Hi everyone! My name is Vezalius Bandage or Zali and today I am speaking French!) "
Next was Nina,
" Hello, my name is Nina Kosaka. Russaian will be my language. Привет, Меня зовут Nina Kosaka. Русский будет быть мой язык ( Hello, my name is Nina Kosaka. Russian will be my language.) "
Then came Mika,
" My name is Mika Melatika. I speak Indonesian. Nama saya Mika Melatika. Saya berbicara Indonesia (My name is Mika Melatika. I speak Indonesian.) "
Enna chimed in,
" Hello, my name is Enna Alouette. I speak Mandarin Chinese. 你好, 我叫 Enna Alouette. 我说话 普通话 中文. (Hello, my name is Enna Alouette. I speak Mandarin Chinese.) "
Now Reimu jumped in,
" Hello my name is Reimu Endou~! I have been chosen to speak Spanish. Hola mi nombre es Reimu Endou~! He sido elegido para hablar español. (Hello my name is Reimu Endou~! I have been chosen to speak Spanish.) "
And finally you gave your introduction,
" Good morning everyone~! My name is YVT/N! I speak Japanese for this collaboration~! おはようございます 皆さん~! 私の名前は YVT/N! 私は日本語を話します 対して これ コラボ~! (Good morning everyone~! My name is YVT/N! I speak Japanese for this collaboration~!) "
And of course no line of introductions would be complete if Luca didn't chime in to introduce himself,
" HIIIIII GUYS! I'm Luca Kaneshiro! I am just gonna be spending some time in the VC while my game downloads and if it finishes before the collab is over, YVT/N said I could speak backwards so I'm not completely understood, POGGGGGGGGG!!! " He said happily causing the rest of the people in the collab to snicker at his enthusiasm.
" Right~! With introductions out of the way, let's get the first round started! Good luck everyone~! " You beamed as the game began.
And of course, as expected, it was complete chaos. There was zero understanding between anyone. You were walking around trying to find a task before stopping, seeing Enna and Nina having some sort of stand off but not understanding a word either woman was saying.
Within a few rounds, Luca finally was able to join into the fun. The new round started, You ran past Ver being chased yelling in Korean by Ike who was yelling in Swedish but of course you didn't understand what either of them were saying. Before running into Luca who was standing over a dead Enna,
" LUCA! 殺しましたか Enna!? (LUCA! Did you kill Enna?!) " You said backing away
" Tahw?! I nod't dnatsrednu tahw ruoy gniyas TVY/N! (What?! I don't understand what your saying YVT/N!) " Luca stammered out, barely able to get through a sentence.
Hearing Luca struggle at getting a sentence out backwards was enough to cause you to snicker,
" 体の上に立つ Luca! 他に誰が殺しただろう Enna?! (Your standing over a body Luca! Who else could have killed Enna?!) " You said quickly going to report Enna's body.
⚠️ EMERGENCY MEETING ⚠️
" 私は見つけた Luca 立っている Enna's 体! (I found Luca standing over Enna's body!) " You spoke out
" Nina jagade mig! (Nina was chasing me!) " Ike called out
" Мне показалось, что я вижу Ike убей кого-нибудь, чтобы я последовал за ним (I thought I saw Ike kill someone so I followed him) " Nina said trying to be heard over the wave of voices
You could see your chat going nuts over the complete chaos this collab was. No one could understand each other and communication was just dead in the water. As the round went on, people were voted out and in the end, the goose ended up winning and the goose turned out to be Ver. Back in the lobby, voices rung out and everyone was finally able to understand each other, everyone was laughing. Luca walked over to you and spoke,
" BABE! I TOLD YOU IT WASN'T ME THAT KILLED ENNA! " He yelled, faking being hurt
It took a second to realize what Luca had said but when it registered, you looked back to your chat.
Chat: Chairkun223: DID LUCA JUST CALL YVT/N BABE?! YVT/NSimp: OH MY GOD Luca'sJacket44: ARE THEY TOGETHER?! LucaxYVT/NOTP: AWWWH~!
Your jaw hit your desk and you couldn't help but nervous laugh,
" L...luca, we're still live. " you said, your eyes still glued on your chat
" What? What I say? " He asked before he looked at his own chat and realized his mistake.
Both chats were going wild with questions and people squealing over the fact that YVT/N and Luca were a couple. It took a few seconds before the others in the collab realized what happened since you and Luca had gone silent. The rest of the collab was filled with you and Luca trying to go the rest of the collab without looking at the chats, each time you ran into another person in the collab, you could only assume they were teasing you since you couldn't understand a word being said.
The end of the collab came, everyone said their goodbyes and you said goodbye to chat, Luca ran in and hugged you apologizing for outting the relationship during the collab and of course you reassured him that it was okay.
From then on, Luca made sure he was incredibly loving even in streams, he was shameless in letting chat know how amazing he thought you were and how much he loved you.
I tagged everyone but idk why some people's accounts are not showing up😭
"THIS PLACE IT'S BEAUTIFUL" you whispered to yourself, eyes taking in the cave you was in. It's been a day since you was taken to this mysterious place, your ankle already fine from whatever treatment the healers have used.
Harucan had been around you the whole time, bringing up random things to you and showing them.
You also met the healer that treated your ankle, her name was Akna. Akna was gentle and kind with you, making you feel much more at ease with being in this mysterious place yet you was still riddled in fear for your life.
The only source of happiness you did get was the little visits Huracan would give you through out the day, a guard chasing behind him as he reaches towards you and rung his arms around you tightly.
He became even more clingy to you— the woman that saved his life, he wanted to return the favor of you helping him by making your time spent in the cave a bit more interesting so he brought random things he found around the cave and in depths of Talokan to you.
Your ankle felt much better, allowing yoi to walk slowly again which caused Huracan to pull you by the wrist to show you around the cave properly.
The place was indeed beautiful—magical. The blue lights hanging from above , the water that escaped from the cracks gently falling from above.
Huracan points towards a small hut, the roof made out of straw and the walls made of clay. Around the place was weeds that grew from the cracks on the ground— the small hut was surrounded by what looks like objects from the surface world— a scuba diver helmet, a recorder, a fisherman's boot..?
You suppressed a laugh as you thought about the little mermaid— how Ariel would collect anything that was found from the surface world in the ocean.
Huracan tugged at your hand towards the dimly lit hut— wanting to take you inside of it, you was hesitant, scared that you left the place you was at and it would cause the Talokanil King to be upset with you intruding.
"Come!" Huracan insisted, you took a thick gulp and allowed the boy to drag you to the hut, you were about to enter until a hand sudden grasped your unoccupied hand sending a fast chill of fear to spiral down your spine, goosebumps irrupting and covering your skin as you go pale.
" Huracan, why did you bring this surface dweller here?" You heard a gruff voice says from behind you , the grip on your wrist getting a bit tighter as it yanks you away from the young boy as you let's out a shocked gasp.
You turn around slowly, fear radiating off of you to see a Talokanil man, his skin a similar shade to Huracan's. He looked fierce and even more scarier than Namor, a scowl behind his apparatus.
"Attuma! I just wanted to show her my father's paintings." the boy whines out, a pout forming on his face but Attuma's stern expression didn't flutter at the child's attempt to let thr two of you off the hook.
You didn't understand anything the two said but from the Talokanil's tone in voice he was not happy. At all.
Attuma holds you by the arm tightly and pushes you away from the hut, he gently takes Huracan's hand but the boy slips it out of his grasp.
"Huracan.." the Talokanil warrior says in a warning tone but the boy ignores him and ducks under the man's arm to be by your side.
'Why does this kid like me so much?' You thought, your heart beating faster as Attuma sighs and just pushes you forward to walk back to where you was meant to be.
Attuma disliked— no he hated the idea that Namor brought a surface dweller, once again down to their secret kingdom. Attuma pushes you towards the hammock once they reached the place you was meant to be as you falls onto the flimsy cloth that was 'your bed'.
'My arm..' you thought, rubbing it gently as Huracan was pushed away by Attuma to not get closer to you.
How could his king, his Ruler, K'uk'ulkan — so easily trust this surface dweller? Did he not learn from what had happened a few months back with the Wakandians? Even though they had an alliance, Attuma still didn't like this idea— he felt that his home is now at even more threat than it was before and now seeing that you was roaming around freely in their secret home made him even more questionable towards K'uk'ulkan.
With a warning glare towards you—knowing that you won't understand his threat towards you, he walks away— Huracan being dragged with him as you just watched, fully understanding the wordless threat towards you.
'I need to get back home.' You thought, your body laying on the hammock as you curl your legs into your chest, your heartbeating faster that you could infact — be killed at any moment.
    ✧ : - ⭒ - : ✧ : - ⭒ - : ✧
Namor's fingers gently touched the pearls in his hand, a heavy sigh leaves past his lips as he thinks about his late Queen.
She , Huracan and the Talokanils where the most precious things to him yet he had lost one of the things he cherished with his heart and soul. When the queen died, part of his heart also died with her— for him, she was the sun to him.
Her beautiful smile forever etched into his mind as a shaky sigh leaves past his parted lips as he leaves the pearls that had crafted pieces of vibranium threaded with it back down on his table— the last gift he had given to her before she was taken away from him and their son.
"FATHER! " He heard an all too familiar voice call out to him, instantly he was alarmed at the tone of voice Huracan had called for him. His thoughts instantly drifting towards you, his breath hitching at the fact that you may have harmed his son.
He rushed out of the hut, heart beating faster only to find Attuma holding onto the boy's arm tightly, bringing him towards the hut as the boy wails.
A sigh leaves post Namor's lips, feeling revealed that his son is okay but his brows furrow when he sees the way Attuma held him as he raises up his hand towards Attuma, instantly he let go of the child's arm as Huracan ran towards his father to hug his waist.
"Attuma is being mean to me again." The boy sobs into his father's chest as he gently pats his back.
"What happened now, Attuma?" The king asks.
"Huracan tried bringing the surface dweller in this area." Attuma simply says, Namor's eyes slightly widening as he looks down at Huracan.
"My child why did you try and do this? you know we can not trust her fully." Namor states, Huracan's glossy eyes looking up at his father.
Namor himself, does not really know what to do with you. It was a rushed decision to bring you to Talokan to heal you from your wound and you had a panic attack, if he had left you— you would have surely being dead. He wanted to leave you but his son didn't approve of this, insisting that you saved his life and took such great care of him.
He didn't think back than, now he is left with a problem— how is he going to send you back without you opening your mouth? What if you planned all of this, what if you manipulated Huracan?
Namor's trust in the surface world was weak, the only surface people he now trusted were Wakanda.
He had made a grave and foolish mistake yet for his son it was not. He had never seen his son so enthusiastic since the death of his mother.
"I just wanted to show her the paintings you did." Huracan says as Namor's gaze soften.
"Hura.. you know we can't trust the—" no y/n is different, she saved me. You are lying about the people from above." Huracn says defiantly letting go of his father, tears brimming his eyes.
"Hura—""leave me alone!" the boy shouts as Huracan pushes his father hand away from him.
"I'm tired of only being here and believing that all the surface people are bad yet the surface world is not as bad as you said. " Huracan shouts and backs away from his father and Attuma as he rans away before screaming,
"And ice cream is amazing and I hate you for keeping it away from me!" the boy says before diving into the pool, his father sighing, brows furrowing at the child's words as he have heard about this so called desert before.
"This child." the king mumbled out, heart stinging at the word hate  as Huracan had thrown it towards him quite a few times.
"We should get rid of the woman, K'uk'ulkan." Attuma suddenly states, grabbing Namor's attention.
"And how we do that, Attuma? " Namor asks already knowing the answer to his question.
"Killing her." The Talokanil warrior says. Namor's creased his brows , a frown forming on his face. Knowing that if he was to kill you , Huracan would become even more hateful towards him and he didn't want this.
"I can not. Huracan would become hysterical." Namor says, watching as Attuma frowns deeply.
"It's for Huracan's own good. We don't know what's her true motives are, K’uk’ulkan." Attuma says, voice filled with warning. Namor was torn between the safety of his people and his son's fixation with some random surface dweller (you) , he regrets deeply spoiling the young child.
"You spoilt him way too much." Attuma mutters as Namor replies " Let's give her some time, we can't just go about and kill her. If she does anything that goes against us or is a threat than— we will kill her."
Attuma didn't like this decision as he gives K'uk'ulkan a firm nod— the tension between the two strong as Attuma walks away from K'uk'ulkan, his doubt and faith in his leader becoming weaker as he clenched his fist in anger and dismay.
In love
summary: Y/N realizes she fell in love with her new bestfriend.
pairing: JJ Maybank x fem!reader
768 words
a/n: I just liked so much writing, had to make another her. Let me know if you have some request, send me a chat! <3
--★--
It's not easy on Y/N's mind when she got this messy, JJ rent free in her mind, she just can't help it. His touch lingering just a little to much in the low of her back as he passes by makes she weak in the knees, blaming it on the hormones when she reaches to feel his arms as he helps she get in the boat, holping he doesn't notice, or the intrusive thoughts in her head that makes she understand Charlotte Flax in Mermaids. I mean, what she wouldn't give to be that can in his hand? Fitting just perfectly between those lips, having his hands wrapped around she like that, be the trail of beer down his chin, the wind blowing inside the loose sleeves of his shirt and through his chest.
Fucking pathetic.
Y/N is lost, no doubt.
This is not only a crush, she's in love. Deeply in thoughts about JJ. What is he doing? Where is he? Is he thinking about me? Inevitable to not wake up musing him, go to sleep meditating about it, heartbroken when he flirts with another girl.
After all it's not like he wants to date her.
Marry her.
Have her babies.
The HMS Pogue float calmly on the chill waves, John B., Kiara and JJ are swimming, Pope is laid down in the corner, Franz Kafka's book long forgotten on his lap as he takes a nap. Y/N is just laying in the sun, she moved to the OBX only six months ago, still can't swim very well so she rater not tire herself to much. The pogues don't understand how come Y/N comes to an island without knowing how to swim, a few weeks earlier she had to confess it, due the summer vacation, and JJ started taking her to the beach to teach her. That's it! Like a click comes to her mind. The memory of that first afternoon of swim class, begginin of July, school year had just ended, the sea kinda green and warm, JJ was teaching Y/N how to float. They were in the shallow, he backed away and laid back, chest appearing on the surface, to show her how to do it. She tried, his hands were on her back to help she lift her weight on the water, but the second they left, her body sinked inches, the gasp she let out letting water inside her mouth. He laughed shortly bringing her up, moving the hair off of her face.
"It's alright, just a little bit of water in your mouth" she lifted a finger in front of his face, turning around to blow salt water out of her nose. "Okay, breathed some too" he laughed.
She saw his eyes tight with the smile, bright blue orbs, laugh lines, hands pressed on her waist. It felt like the first time. Y/N didn't learned it that day, neither in the next one, late that week they had to find a quieter place after JJ pissed a guy trowing sunscreen on his surf board for making fun of Y/N's swim skills.
JJ never made she feel bad for not knowing how to swim, actually, he felt bad for not teaching right - but how could she learned when she was more interested on the teacher than on the lesson?
He swam to the boat pocking her side for attention.
"Hey pretty girl!" her heart twirled "Wanna swim with me? It's not fun without you."
Y/N agreed, would do anything with him. She slipped off to the water, his arm around her.
"I'm fine." she says "I can at east not sink, y'know?" But he didn't wanted to let go of her, the feeling of soft skin to good against his palm. He did, anyway.
"See?" the girl smiled.
"I see" he answered.
His blue eyes watched her sparkling ones, tanned skin, so shiny, tits looking so cute in the flowered bikini top, nice lips, so kissable. JJ felt the ground falling out from under him, even though he was in the water. How could he only notice it now, he wants to kiss she so badly, flirting is not enough, lingered touches, sweet nicknames, not enough. Remembered also how he feel so safe around her in such a small time together, how he wants to impress her just to see the proud lustful look on her face, how he felt when saw she wearing his shirt on the Chateau after getting her's wet - kinda horny, sure - but with a twist in his heart.
He sees. He knows now.
He's in love too.
MASTERLIST | AO3 | WATTPAD
The gulf of the great sea was known to bring down ships in the Bay of Belfalas during an unlucky storm. The rocky path towards the shore had claimed the lives of many during such circumstances. Though the weather was usually fair, now was not one of those times. The ship, The Deseirre, rocked and tilted under the storm's ruling, making it nearly impossible for the crew to evade the onslaught of unwelcomed waves crashing aboard. The harsh waters hit hard upon the men manning the vessel, nearly drowning them in the angry salt water of the sea as they desperately tried to keep the boat from going down. The captain of the ship was manning the wheel, turning and spinning it with frantic urgency. The quartermaster was calling out orders, directing the crew's efforts to secure the hatches and hold the ship steady. The sailors were running lines and yanking on ropes, hoping to pull the sails in a direction that would keep them afloat. However, as the night sky wept and bellowed in rage, it further obscured the treacherous rocks lurking in the cove. Still, Boromir prayed that their vessel wouldn’t be one to join the graveyard below.
“ONE. OF. YOU. FUCKING MORONS—“ A wave crashed down upon the quartermaster, stealing his sentence for a moment. The water slid across the deck, revealing his form. His waterlogged body fumbled to rise. “—GO REEF THE SAILS! NOW!”
The Captain of the Minas Tirith Guard caught the desperate man’s gaze and nodded—telling him that he would be the one to do the task. Boromir then took to stumbling across the rocking ship, dodging flying parcels and rolling barrels, as he attempted to get to the ship’s mast.
A sudden cry interrupted his actions, causing Boromir to turn his attention. It was Elidon, the youngest member of their group at the age of fourteen. He had been hit by one of the barrels—and three more were coming his way.
Instantly, the Gondorian Captain moved to his aid. He jumped in-front of the boy and took the blow of the next barrel before yanking them both out of the way of the other two.
“Sir Boromir, th—thank you.” Elidon stammered out.
He patted the younger’s shoulder in recognition of his thanks. “Help Heimir and the rest of the crew! Go!”
“But—but where are you going?! That side of the ship is getting hit with the most water?!”
“The sails must be reefed! Go to Heimir!” he yelled as he ran off towards the rigging.
A diplomatic mission, his father had called it.
Boromir, now at the mast, grasped onto the ropes and heaved himself up onto the first prong of the rigging.
Just a quick check-in across the seas to confirm their trade routes and hold relations, he had said.
The Captain of the Guard twisted his fingers as the wet material slipped from them, nearly losing his grasp.
It would be an easy sail, Denethor had claimed.
Boromir struggled to keep his footing as a large wave crashed upon him, disorienting him.
Not too far of a venture, he had insisted.
Of course, without any objection, Boromir had agreed to go to be the face of such discussions. After all, Gondor needed a representative, and who could be more suitable than the steward’s son himself?! Boromir had been actively assisting his father in various administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of Minas Tirith—hell, he was captain of the guard! Therefore, a simple sail was nothing; but, much to his dismay, this was no simple sail. They had come across rough waves and rocky terrain through their journey. They had hoped that the way back wouldn’t be as difficult. But, boy, were they wrong. It was worse.
So here the Soldier of Gondor was, climbing the rigging to reach the sails and secure the reef points. Hopefully, with luck, it would reduce the risk of the ship capsizing.
He was nearly there, only a couple feet away, when he first heard it: the shouting.
Though it was not just the yelling of orders and commands.
No, no, this was different.
This was the shouting of terror. A cry to let the rest of them know it was too late. There was nothing to be done at this point. It was just a warning—for them to brace themselves. They had but seconds.
One. Two. Three.
The ship crashed hard upon a rock, the sound of the splintering snap of wood getting lost in that of lightning.
Boromir's desperate grip grew stronger, his fingers digging into the coarse fibers of the rope as his legs flailed helplessly in the air. He could feel the burn of the material tearing and ripping open his skin, an agonizing reminder of the dire situation he found himself in. Yet despite this, he clung to that lifeline, his very existence hanging by a thread. He didn’t want to die. No, not like this.
The crew members' panicked voices echoed through the air, their urgent cries piercing the tense atmosphere and striking reality back into Boromir’s bones. Swiftly, they scrambled towards the lifeboats, driven by the need for survival. The soldier knew the ship was done. The irrevocable truth was evident—the ship was destined to sink and there was no saving it.
With a swift twist of his head, Boromir shook off the wet strands of hair that clung to his face, obscuring his vision. He knew he had to get to the others—quickly. His eyes darted from one possible route to another, assessing each for its level of safety.
Boromir, with his heart pounding, shifted his position. He would have to swing for it.
With a calculated movement, he extended his arm, stretching it out towards a rope that hung close by. His fingers grazed its surface, but it remained just out of his immediate reach.
He tried again. His palm collided with the rope, yet still, it slipped from his grasp.
Determined, Boromir reconfigured his stance once more, hoping that this adjustment would be the key to finally bridging the gap between his outstretched hand and his only lifeline.
However, just as he was to make contact, a powerful wave slammed into his back. This sent him flying through the air. Helpless and disoriented, he tumbled uncontrollably down the rigging, hurtling towards the ship's deck. With mere seconds to react, he desperately attempted to reposition his form mid-fall, aiming to land on the meatiest part of his body. However, before he could even try to execute any maneuver, a gust of wind propelled a swinging beam directly towards him. Its side rammed right into his abdomen, forcefully taking him along its path. A pained groan escaped his lips as his head collided with yet another beam. The darkness then consumed him.
From their lifeboats, the crew gazed in disbelief at the sight of the Steward's Son, a figure who had always treated them with kindness and compassion, being tossed about in the air like a little gnat. The rage of the sea batted him away dismissively, as if he was nothing more than a little pest. With mouths agape in astonishment, the sailors watched Boromir’s lifeless form plummeting into the water—water that seemed to almost reach up towards him, as if the ocean itself yearned to soften the pain of his fall. The roar and rumble of the waves then consumed him and his limp form vanished beneath the inky depths. He was swallowed whole by the relentless force of the sea.
“Make for the shore!” The captain of the now non-existent ship hollered.
“But Captain!” Elidon cried out frantically. “What of Sir Boromir?! We cannot leave him!”
Grasping the torn and drenched fabric of his younger companion's tunic, the captain hollered his reply. “No man could have survived a blow to the back of the head like that. Forget Sir Boromir!” His gaze then shifted urgently towards Heimir, a comrade who shared in the grief of the recently departed. "Row for the shore! NOW! We cannot delay a moment longer!"
“But Captain!” Elidon shouted.
“Shut it boy! Or I will throw you over too!” he snapped back.
Reluctantly, Heimir and another sailor, Stinar, started to row. The little lifeboat began to surge with the way of the winds as the men upon it desperately attempted to bring it home steady—the friend that some had held so dearly, abandoned to the black sea.
The men, however, did not know one thing—the most important thing.
They didn’t know of the legends that had almost since faded from their line. The legends that only the eldest of sailors dared to even whisper of—even after a couple pints. The legends of the beautiful and sinful beasts of the sea. The ones that lured men to their deaths and used their skeletons for fashioning jewelry.
…..
Amidst the disassembling of The Deseirre—its fragments mercilessly thrown upon the tumultuous waves to be claimed by the gods of deep—a pair of vigilant eyes floated atop the water's surface.
Their curious gaze captured the ethereal moonlight, reflecting its shimmering glow as the sea raged on. Observing intently, they absorbed the tragic spectacle of the ship bending and breaking. They witnessed the anguished cries of its crew and the frenzied efforts of those fighting for survival. In solemn stillness, they silently beheld the suffering. Yet, a tender warmth seeped into those unwavering eyes when they witnessed one soul selflessly shielding another of many years younger. This man took the brunt of debris, despite the pain. And, well, those inquiring eyes decided to follow that man.
They watched as he scrambled across the ship, desperately climbing to reach or do….something. They didn't know exactly what his goal was, but from his frantic behavior, they could only guess it was intended to prevent the ship from going down. His efforts, however, appeared to be in vain, for the ship was splitting into ruins and the men were abandoning it—all but him. He tried. Oh, yes, he tried very hard, but it seemed the odds were not in his favor.
Down he fell—spiraling unconscious towards the abyss.
And those eyes, the ones that surveyed the shipwreck, were connected to a lifeform that could feel such pain—pain of the heart. They belonged to one called (Y/N).
(Y/N) knew she shouldn’t.
They were not allowed to—none of them were.
It was forbidden among their clan.
Though the begging of the young boy yanked upon the crevices of her chest.
It was forbidden.
All men couldn't be like those ones—the ones her father fought in ‘TheWar of the Riptides’ all those centuries ago.
It was forbidden.
This man—this man couldn't be like them. No. No, he wasn't like them. He was a good man.
It was forbidden.
He had saved the boy and taken the pain with no complaint. After all that had happened in the past couple centuries, she had to believe that there was some kindness—some decency—left in the human race. And in that act, she saw it. She knew she saw it. So, here, listening to the young boy plead for the rescue of the man, Boromir, she could not let it disappear.
It was forbidden.
She couldn't let that kindness rot at the bottom of the deep.
It was forbidden.
She could not let it cease to exist.
Fuck the forbidden.
(Y/N) extended her palm outward, commanding the water to cradle the man's body, cushioning his descent and lessening the impact. The waves obediently rose, embracing his lifeless form for a fleeting moment before consuming him. Swiftly, she dipped beneath the surface, her tail propelling her gracefully through the depths. It took only mere seconds for her to locate the drifting figure, and without hesitation, she folded her arms around his limp frame. Drawing upon the innate strength bestowed upon her people, her fins pushed them both upwards. Their heads emerged from the water's surface and the moonlight bathed them in unison with the rain.
Ensuring the man’s head remained above the water's surface, the mermaid skillfully navigated her way towards the shoreline. She glided past the treacherous rocky terrain that had proven to be the ship’s demise. She evaded the broken debris that came from the hopeless fight. And she eluded the relentless onslaught of waves that came to snatch the prize she had stolen.
(Y/N) reached the shore at the break of dawn, just as the sun began its ascent to its position among the sky. The storm had halted during the first rays of light and now it kissed her skin and scales with praise. As she brushed upon the land, she gently laid Boromir’s head down upon the sand. Slow and soft she went about it. She was so careful with him. So diligent. She wanted him to survive. She needed him to survive.
With caution, (Y/N) leaned in and placed her ear against Boromir’s chest, her brow creasing and her lips tensing.
Please, please, please.
And there it was: the sound of blood thundering through veins, mimicking the tantrum of the storm in a mocking delight.
(Y/N) smiled softly. Oh yes, fuck the forbidden.
She lifted her head from the man’s form and bit her lip as a strange guilt flooded through her heart. Despite her relief, apprehension crept into her mind as she dreaded the potential consequences from the gods—and her father. She understood deep down that she should not have intervened. Just coming to the surface was bad enough. But this? Saving a man? Surely that was an extreme that shouldn’t have been trifled with. The mere glimpse of her tail, by even a single human, would forever rekindle the forgotten war between the races. It would seal the fate of the merfolk, burying them in their ocean.
It was forbidden.
(Y/N) turned to look behind her at the open ocean.
The little lifeboats were still a mile or two out. She had time—just a little time.
Despite the shame of her people that hung around her neck, she focused her care upon the unconscious man. Resting her elbow in the warm sand beside him, (Y/N) fixed her gaze upon his serene expression. Unable to resist, her index finger traced a delicate path along his cheekbone, his lips, and his chin. He didn’t seem like the humans from the tales. They all had been war-torn and death-driven. He was the opposite. He valued life—if it hadn't been for him that young boy would have found a new home in the watery graveyard. (Y/N) brushed his dark sandy hair from his face as she continued to caress his skin. Softly, she began to hum a healing harmony, seeking to provide solace to the motionless man. However, her efforts were brought to an abrupt halt when shouts sounded from the cliff above.
The land-dwellers had caught sight of the lifeboats, and it was only a matter of time before they set their eyes upon her. The fleeting sense of time she had once perceived vanished in an instant, replaced by an overwhelming sense of urgency. Yet, a spluttering cough at her side diverted her focus, triggering another surge of anxiety within her core.
It was forbidden.
“Who are you?” Boromir croaked, his squinting and blinking eyes conveying that he could not yet focus on her. His trembling hand then reached out to cup her cheek, taking its time to search for her skin in the air. As he did so, his palm accidently brushed upon her necklace of shell, seaglass, and bone. Still, he fumbled for tangible confirmation of her presence, and he did so until his hand found her face. “Who are you?” he whispered once more.
She placed her hand upon his beating heart. “Survive and live,” she commanded.
Then she was gone.
…..
Boromir sat up in his bed, the comforters pooling around his waist. His brother paced with restless energy before him, meandering across the floor in an agitated rhythm.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
“You never should have gone on that sail.” Faramir murmured. “Father never should have asked it of you—not with the waters getting more and more unpredictable by the day.”
Boromir sighed, tired of every version of this conversation that always seemed to come up no matter the circumstance. “Faramir, it is not his fault…”
The younger stopped his anxious steps and turned to look at Boromir. “Not his fault? You never should have been on that ship!”
“Yes, I should have. Keeping relations with neighboring territories is important. I had to be there.”
Faramir shook his head. “No, father should have gone himself if it was that important.”
“Faramir…” Boromir chided, emotionally exhausted and weary to the bone. “Please, let it rest. I cannot bear the arguing. Not now.”
The younger man let out a sigh, offering a nod of compliance. He settled himself on the edge of the bed, his kind blue eyes—that mirrored his brother’s—resting gently upon the fatigued figure. “I am sorry. I fear losing you to an ill fate, especially one so unnecessary.”
The Captain of the Guard offered a gentle smile. "Fear not, little brother. I managed to escape such a dire fate. The gods did not intend it for me, at least not now. I was saved."
Faramir arched an eyebrow, taken aback by his brother's particular wording. "Saved?"
Boromir inclined his head, his expression displaying a hint of reluctance. After a brief pause, he spoke once more. “Yes. Someone, well, someone rescued me.”
“What? Who? How do you know?”
A chuckle escaped Boromir, tinged with a touch of dark bitterness that resonated in his voice. "I was in a state of unconsciousness. I was drowning. There was no way I could have reached the shore, or even surfaced, on my own. Not in the state I was in."
“You don't think the tides brought you in?”
He shook his head. “Nay. The waters were too rough. They pushed me under and to the depths.”
Faramir huffed, trying to make sense of his brother's words. “Well,” he began, standing and patting his brother’s leg. “We must thank whichever crew member yanked you up and—”
“Faramir,” The Captain interrupted. “It was a woman.”
“—drug you to–to—a woman?” he questioned.
Boromir inhaled slowly. “Yes. It wasn't a crew member. It was a woman.”
“How do you know? Did you see her?”
“Just–just glimpses of colors and shapes.”
“Boromir–” he started.
With a bit of aggression, the Captain’s voice snapped. “I heard her!” He paused, regretting his tone and collecting his emotions before speaking firmly. “I heard her. She—she sang to me. She spoke to me.”
Faramir crossed his arms, his doubt evident. “She spoke to you? What did she say then?”
He looked up at his brother, focusing his gaze intently. “Survive and live. She said to survive and live.”
“You narrowly escaped death, Boromir. That was just your mind playing tricks on you as minds do to many who have a brush with such darkness. You, a soldier, know this.” He huffed. “Get some rest.”
With that, Faramir parted from Boromir’s bedchambers—leaving the stubborn man behind.
Boromir let out a weary sigh. Frustration, confusion, and restlessness weighing heavily on his heart. He had been confined to his bed for a day and a half, and the need to move, to be free, to live—it grew stronger within him.
Therefore, the Captain drew back the blankets and rose from the soft mattress that had carefully held his form while he healed. His feet felt strange upon the cold stone floor. It felt quiet and empty. It felt lonely and still. Boromir exhaled slowly. These feelings—they haunted him ever since the shipwreck. It was as if a fragment of his soul had been chipped away and consumed by the sea. It felt as if something dear to him was missing. He worried that whatever that piece was it lay at the bottom of the dark abyss.
He turned to look at the sunset beyond the glass of the window, shedding its soft gaze upon the waters that had threatened to claim his life. Driven to it, he moved near it, allowing that melody to echo in his mind once more.
That woman was out there….somewhere….and Boromir felt a pull to find her.
The Captain of the Guard shook his head at these thoughts.
Maybe Faramir was right?
Maybe there was no woman?
Maybe the tides had somehow rolled his body to land?
Maybe his mind was just plagued by the ghost of death that had reached for his soul?
Deciding that dwelling on such matters after two days of being bedridden was not going to help, he opted for a night out in his city. It would do him good—to see his people, his friends, his home. Therefore, Boromir was quick to dress and exit the castle of Minas Tirith, making haste towards his favorite tavern.
As soon as his footsteps passed the familiar threshold, his friends—sailors and soldiers—cheered his name and beckoned him further inside. With a radiant smile adorning his weary face, the Gondor Captain complied. His feet moved his form towards their table, glad for the welcome. The aroma of freshly baked bread and frothing ales mingled with the lively chatter of his companions, creating a relaxing ambiance of recognition. Food and drink were quickly passed to his empty hands, and he gratefully accepted. The nourishment, both physical and spiritual, infused him with renewed strength. The burdens of the past were momentarily lifted, replaced by a shared sense of joy and belonging.
However, as the ale flowed and lips ran loose, conversation soon turned towards the shipwreck—the biggest talk of the city.
“Man, I thought ya were a goner!” Heimir stated. “I watched as that beam ran right into ya and down ya went! By Eru, I swear the water came up to grab ya! There was no way ya could’ve survived that, I said. No way.”
Boromir shrugged, lifting his ale to his lips, unease regarding the direction of the conversation settling. “The gods must have been looking out for me,” he tried to dismiss.
The other dark-haired sailor, Stinar, shook his head. “And I’d be glad of it. Elidon was nearly in tears when the ship Cap’n said we had to leave ya behind!”
Boromir smiled softly. “He has a pure heart. Though I don't think there was a way that any of you could have saved me if you stayed. The Captain was right. I agree with his decision.”
Rollo, a soldier in Boromir’s guard, interjected. “See! This is why I stick to the sword! You'll never catch me on a ship. Hell, no.”
Laughter bubbled up at that comment, lightening the mood momentarily.
However, an older sailor, Iwar, leaned forward. “How’d ye do it then, lad?”
“Do what?” Boromir inquired.
“Ye know what I mean—” the old man grabbed him by the shoulder. “—survive, live, breathe for fucks sake!”
Boromir’s gaze cast down upon the table, just for a moment. There were those words again: survive, live. Feeling the ale run heavy in his blood and the despair that seemed to be chasing him surface, he looked up. Choosing to speak of his uncertainty, in hopes of comfort, he opened his lips. “Faramir says it must’ve been the tides.”
Heimir frowned at his friend’s doubtful tone, taking a swig. “Ya think it wasn't?”
Boromir shifted uncomfortably. “Unsure. I—I was unconscious. I don't remember anything until I was on the shore.”
“The sand told ya nothin then?” Stinar laughed out, clearly making jest.
Though, in the midst of Boromir's contemplative silence, a subtle shift in the atmosphere enveloped the group. Their collective intuition picked up on this unease, hinting at the darkness that followed their friend.
It was Iwar that spoke in a hushed whisper first. “Ye saw one of em,’ didn’t ya?”
All eyes drifted, unsure, to the old man.
“What do you mean?” Boromir questioned, his tone wavering.
A distant expression clouded the man's eyes, as if he had lost a part of his very soul to the depths of the ocean. “They wear the bones of our fallen kin. All strung up upon their necks like jewelry. We are spoils for them—spoils for them to take and do as they please.”
Stinar’s smile slowly dripped from his face. “Uh, what, uh, who?”
Iwar looked at Boromir, his green eyes bright and vibrant with the remembrance of fear. “The women of the sea,” he hissed.
At this, Heimir snorted and took a drink from his cup. “Women of the sea? Now look who’s had too many pints!”
Though, the tension only intensified, spreading outward like ripples on water, as Boromir averted his gaze.
“Boromir, tell em’ that he’s crazy! There be none of these sea women!” Heimir persisted, anxiety now stirring through his bones.
However, the silence lingered. It was strong and still—oppressive even. It magnified the odors of the stale ale, tavern piss, and sticky sweat that clung to the unwashed bodies that frequented such a joint.
“S-she sang to me,” Boromir whispered, for the second time that day.
Heimir and Stinar froze, their pints stiff and unmoving before their lips.
Iwar's weathered hand clamped tightly around the Captain of the Minas Tirith Guard's arm, his grip desperate and tinged with panic. “Did ye see it? The jewelry of bone? The slimy tail as hard as stone? They will sing to lure ye into their trap. Then they will devour ye in their nests of coral! Ye saw one of em,’ didn’t yer?”
Boromir's brows knitted together in disbelief. It seemed utterly preposterous, a mere fabrication spun from the ramblings of an old, intoxicated mind. There couldn't possibly be sea-dwelling women hunting them down. It was a nonsensical tale. With a dismissive gesture, he reached for his cup of ale, freeing his arm from the old man's grasp. "I have no idea what you're talking about. There was only a woman—a human woman."
Heimir grinned, laughing loudly and obnoxiously, as he slapped the Captain of the Guard's shoulder. “AYE! No sea tits to lure ya away from us! LET’S DRINK!”
…..
(Y/N) form twisted and turned as she moved with the current. She easily slipped above the corals and the reefs, through the sand dunes and the seagrass meadows, beyond the underwater canyons and the abyssal trenches. As she moved further, her iridescent scales—green, blue, purple, pink, orange—shimmered in the sunlight that had made it through the thick water, casting a mesmerizing display of colors. With each flick of her tail, she effortlessly propelled herself forward, closer to the realm of the merfolk.
As she came across one of the ship graveyards, she could not resist slipping through the ruins. Her keen eyes scanned her surroundings, curious and watchful, as she navigated the underwater cemetery. While she swam, her gaze drifted over all the little trinkets and forgotten treasures that the humans were forced to leave behind. Things she knew and things she did not. Books, maps, chests, and clothes—all scattered and heavy at the bottom of the sea. All forgotten. All forbidden.
As she came upon one of the men’s skeletons her brows pulled together and her hand reached for her necklace. The soft whispers of the sea echoed, as if it was trying to convince her to do what she desired. She knew she shouldn't. She knew she shouldn't make something for a human. It was a custom of the sea folk—not something to be shared with the land-dwellers. However, an insistent voice within the watery depths urged her on. (Y/N) cast a cautious glance in both directions, torn between her instincts and the weight of tradition. Succumbing to the persistent salty murmurings in her ear, she yielded to temptation. Seizing hold of one of the bones—the femur—she forcefully dislodged it from its resting place.
(Y/N) had initially intended to return directly to her father's castle, concealed beneath the shifting vallying dunes. However, something else tugged at her mind. If she were to proceed, she needed to acquire knowledge. With a sharp twist of her tail, she pushed herself back towards the ship that held the maps and artifacts. Her delicate hands sifted through each item, seeking the one she sought. Eventually, she stumbled upon a relatively intact parchment, its ink only slightly drifting. It contained a comprehensive depiction of the land, with all the locations meticulously scrawled. Every river and pond was carefully marked, and the paths upon the land were intricately detailed. It held the very information she needed.
With the map firmly grasped in one hand and the bone held carefully in the other, (Y/N) swam swiftly back home. It didn't take long for her to locate a secluded crevice where she could settle herself. There, she devoted hours upon hours to examine the parchment depicting the lands of the surface dwellers, tracing her finger along the various routes and pathways. When she exhausted such things, her attention turned to the femur that she had securely stowed in her bag. With quick movements, she continued to rummage through her satchel until her fingers found the familiar shape of a knife. (Y/N) then embarked on her task, delicately scraping the blade against the bone's surface, etching the carving she had planned.
It was only when her sister Anahita's voice reached her ears that (Y/N) finally lifted her gaze from her endeavors. “(Y/N)! There you are! Father has been oh so worried!”
Nerida echoed her sentiments. “Where have you been?!”
Amidst their inquiries, a mischievous gasp escaped from Una's lips, her tone playful, “By the shipwrecks, I see!”
‘The shipwrecks? What is your purpose there? You know the sharks like to linger,” Anahita persisted.
Slightly flustered by their sudden appearance and interrogation, (Y/N) swiftly concealed the bone, which was slowly taking the form of a whale, behind her tail. "What? No! Certainly not!" she responded, attempting to dismiss any notion of her activities near the shipwrecks.
Una swam towards her, giggling, before she snatched the femur from under her sister’s tale. “A bone from the human graves. Someone is in love!!!!!” she sang out.
“Shut up, Una! No, I am not!” (Y/N) retorted, her voice tinged with embarrassment and denial.
Plucking the half finished craving from Una, Nerdia joined in the teasing. “OoOo! A whale! Compassion. Care. Benevolence. Given to the protectors of the weak.”
Anahita grinned. “So who is it? Someone in the Sea’s Royal Guard?”
Una gasped. “Perhaps, Tamesis?! Oh, or Kai! Kai was always sweet on you!”
With an assertive glare, (Y/N) snatched the makeshift whale back into her possession. “It is not Tamesis or Kai!”
“Oh, so there is someone!”
An instant coral color flushed (Y/N)'s cheeks, her embarrassment evident. "Eat a pufferfish" she exclaimed, her angry words accompanied by the playful giggles of her sisters.
As the hours slipped away, (Y/N) put the finishing touches on her bone carving and made the necessary preparations for her secret expedition. She gathered the essential supplies: the map, her knife, a handful of oysters, and, of course, the delicately crafted whale.
As dusk settled and the sun's rays no longer reached the depths of the merfolk's domain, (Y/N) set out on her journey. Her sisters slumbered peacefully, unaware of her departure, while the guards remained oblivious to the existence of the hidden entrance she had been using for years. With determined swishes of her fins, she swam swiftly through the sea, her heart pulsating with anticipation. Eventually, she came upon the beach where she had left Boromir. Breaking the surface—a forbidden action that now lost the fear attached to it—she was not surprised to find the sand absent of his presence. He was likely up with the other people of the land, doing land-people things.
(Y/N) swiveled her head and contorted her graceful form until she located the mouth of the Anduin River. It would serve as her conduit to the grand city, her navigation, her concealment. It would lead her to the place where she would find him. She recalled how the men from the shipwreck had addressed him with the title of ‘sir.’ He had to be important. The important ones were always addressed as ‘sir’ and they always lived in the big cities.
The mermaid inhaled sharply, reconsidering her mission. This would be it. Once she did this, there was no taking it back. It was the moment of no return. She bit her lip. Consequences be damned. Fuck the forbidden.
So, (Y/N) gracefully glided through the currents. Her silky fins steered her through the Anduin, the gentle ebb and flow of the river guiding her way. As she swam, the distant echoes of voices reached her ears, growing louder with each passing moment. They were voices filled with excitement and joy, resonating with laughter, cheers, and animated conversations. Curiosity danced in her eyes as she neared the surface, her head emerging from the water like a whale coming up for air. With her gaze fixed on the scene before her, she observed intently, taking in the lively spectacle unfolding beyond the riverbank.
The first thing she noticed, after the sounds of life that had traveled through the water, were the smells. Thousands of different scents drifted through the air—ones that she could not identify other than the instinctual fragrances of smoke and flavor: food, she guessed. Spices and sweets filtered through her nostrils, captivating her attention. She wondered what they tasted like. The next thing that piqued her interest was the colors and action. It appeared that she had surfaced next to a social market, a sort of eatery, or a…something. Men sat upon benches drinking, eating, and speaking. There seemed to be more so inside the building, but some flowed out, stumbling and dizzy. The sloshing of the liquid in their cups appeared to be the culprit as they moved with sloppy ease. Inebriated. They were inebriated. The merfolk could get like that if they ate too much Sarpa Salpa—the dreamfish of the sea bream, they called it. Though how the men fumbled was a bit different to how the merfolk did. The humans had legs…not tails, after all.
(Y/N) with wide eyes and parted lips could not stop seeing it all—a simple little tavern, yet it was bursting with passion and life. By Ulmo! It was beautifully, terrifyingly, strangely exciting.
Though that excitement turned into a nervous thrill. A fluttering sensation rose from the depths of her stomach, coursed through her heart, and finally settled like a bubble in her throat. It was a strange wave of emotions, a mismatched concoction of hope and uncertainty, as a figure emerged from the establishment before her. In that moment, disbelief clouded her thoughts. No, it couldn't be. The eagerness she felt at the possibility of finding him oh so easily was restrained by a nagging doubt, a flicker of skepticism whispered in the corners of her mind. Could it truly be him? Could this chance meeting be the end of her quest? Though, that waving dark sandy hair that ran across his forehead and the stubble beard that matched did not lie. She had carried that man through the rapids and held his face in her palms. It indeed was him—Boromir.
(Y/N) was quick to duck behind a large rock, peering beside it with those cautious and curious eyes of her. She watched as he moved to look out up the river, seemingly contemplating his thoughts. His face was stern and still, almost emotionless. But his eyes—they betrayed him. They pooled with uncertainty and confusion, a lingering level of sadness hiding underneath a lack of understanding. He seemed….lonely.
(Y/N)’s fingers gripped at the rock as she leaned forward with fascination; however, she wasn't paying much mind to her hold, for it slipped and her hand fell into the water with a splash.
Guided by instinct, Boromir’s head snapped in her direction.
She was quick to duck behind the rock, her sleek skin and iridescent scales melding against the cool surface of the stone, ensuring her presence remained hidden.
“Is someone out there?” his voice called.
(Y/N) held her breath, but he made no move to search further. Instead, she heard his footsteps retreating.
She scoped out his motions quietly, following his form with her chasing eyes. She had just found him. She didn't want to lose sight of him—not when she didn't know where to find him again! Having only a second to make a decision, (Y/N) dunked under the water. Her eyesight angled upwards as she swam deep in the river alongside him. He paused, every one and a while, glancing at the stream, and everytime he did, the mermaid would push herself deeper and deeper into the depths.
It was a short endeavor. A fifteen minute swim—though it would have been faster if she wasn't going at such a slow pace to match Boromir’s strides—before he went where she could not follow: The Minas Tirith Castle. He parted from the way of the river and began the ascending path towards the brilliant white castle. (Y/N) had been correct in her assumption: he was indeed someone of importance. As he disappeared from sight, she surfaced above the waterline, her gaze fixed on the spot where he had vanished. She would see him again. She had to. (Y/N) turned her attention to her surroundings, taking in the scenery for her return. The water stretched ahead, extending towards the north, but another path curved around the castle. Driven by curiosity, she followed that bend, gracefully swimming amidst the swaying seagrass, startling small fish with her playful movements in the late hour. Before long, she reached an opening where the river flowed into a steady pond.
The mermaid's grin widened as she glided through the water, relishing the caress of the cool night air against her skin. Tilting her head back, she gazed up at the towering castle that loomed above her. Its grandeur and intricacy surpassed anything she had ever seen in her underwater kingdom. It boasted multiple tiers, labyrinthine pathways, countless rooms, and majestic balconies. It was a sight to behold, captivating her with its magnificence. However, her gaze abruptly froze, and an audible gasp escaped her lips.
Standing there, on one of the balconies, was Boromir.
By Ulmo—her luck was getting ridiculous now.
His bare torso shimmered with a gentle sheen under the soft moonlight, accentuating the sculpted contours of his obviously strong body. Leaning casually against the sturdy balcony railing, his arms extended, showcasing his muscled biceps. Though, a hint of vulnerability bleed through his physical appearance, manifesting as a pensive expression etched with longing and uncertainty.
If only he cast his gaze downward, he would have seen a face that reflected that same yearning.
…..
(Y/N)’s tail swished as she ducked into the dining area of her father’s palace. As expected, she found she was not the sole presence in the room. Instead, she was greeted by the disapproving gazes of her six sisters. Their eyes bore a mixture of reproach and inquiry, silently questioning her tardiness. Though Una didn't hold that silence long.
“Where have you been?”
(Y/N) blew bubbles from her nose, trying to mask the lie with a coy reply. “Just a morning swim.”
“Ah” Nerida commented. “A morning swim.”
“Yes,” (Y/N) persisted, maintaining her charade. "The coral was absolutely enchanting in the morning light. You should experience it sometime—if only you possessed the skill to rise early.”
“Oy!” she snapped back, clearly irritated by her sister's teasing.
However, just as the sisters' playful banter was to escalate, their father gracefully entered the room. His presence commanded immediate attention. Warm greetings were exchanged, and the atmosphere shifted to one of familial harmony. It was during one of these conversations that the shipwreck, that had occurred only days prior, was brought up. Here, (Y/N)’s gaze snapped up.
"Why do you think they keep getting on ships if they keep getting caught in storms?" Rana questioned, her voice filled with genuine curiosity. "You would think they would learn from their mistakes, wouldn't they?"
Anahita nodded in agreement, her expression contemplative. "They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results."
Mareena chimed in, her tone tinged with a hint of bitterness. "They are quite disgusting, aren't they? Killing us for sport, and yet they willingly put themselves in harm's way for the same reasons."
However, (Y/N) decided to offer a different perspective, breaking the momentary silence that followed. "Well, actually," she began, her voice confident yet cautious. "They use ships to trade supplies with other land-dwellers."
All eyes shifted to (Y/N) with suspicion.
“Isn't that right, father?’ she quickly tacked on.
The tension in the room immediately dissipated as their father nodded in agreement. "Yes, that is true. They have established numerous trade routes, and ships are their means of transportation. It's a very different way of life compared to ours, and unfortunately, it has also led to numerous conflicts and wars between them. The desire for variety and resources has come at a great cost. They traded it for death.”
“How–how do you know all this father?” (Y/N) questioned timidly. “You say it as if you have spent time with them.”
The older merman let out a weary sigh, placing his shell filled with food down on the table. "I have," he admitted, his gaze filled with distant memories.
Instantly, the room fell into a stunned silence as all eyes fixated on their father, their expressions a mix of shock and disbelief.
“I have walked among them before and it was my greatest mistake.”
“You-you what?” Seria gapped.
“Among them?” Una blurted.
“But why would you want to do such a thing?!” Anahita inquired.
Their father's gaze turned solemn as he recounted his past. "Long before any of you were born, during the War of the Riptide, my father sent me to infiltrate the land-dwellers' realm. I lived among them, observing their ways, gathering their secrets. But it was a treacherous undertaking that nearly cost me my life.” He paused, tacking on an additional mumbling sentence: “Those eel fuckers."
A heavy silence enveloped the room, the weight of their father's revelation sinking in. Only the sound of their hearts pounding in their chests broke the stillness, each of them grappling with the newfound knowledge of their father's past—even more dangerous than they were led to believe.
“H–how did you walk among them, father? How did you get legs?” (Y/N) probed, though she knew she shouldn't have.
Their father's gaze turned dark and filled with years of pent-up anger and regret as he locked eyes with her. For a moment, she feared he wouldn't reveal the answer. However, he finally spoke, his voice carrying a hint of bitterness. "Some of us possess a rare gift. When our bodies are completely dry, void of any water upon our skin or tails, we have the ability to transform into a legged form."
Instantly, gasps and chatter sounded.
“My daughters–” he addressed, though they did not listen. “QUIET!!!”
Startled, the mermaid sisters fell silent, their wide-eyed gazes fixed on their father.
“It is a very rare gift—one that is almost never seen—and only passed by blood if the gods wish to curse you with it. It is the most dangerous gift to have. One drop of water on your skin when you have legs has your tail growing back in seconds. And then you are killed by those humans that bore witness.”
Shock dripped from the daughters of the king of the sea.
"But fear not," their father reassured them, his voice softening. "None of you possess this gift. I tested each of you when you were born."
Expressions of worry, relief, and confusion danced across their faces, but (Y/N) couldn't help but notice a peculiar look in their father's eyes—a gaze that lingered strangely upon her.
……
The following day brimmed with a mix of excitement and trepidation as (Y/N) patiently awaited Boromir's arrival at the entrance of Minas Tirith. Rising before the sun, she positioned herself by the riverside, her heart fluttering with anticipation.
To her surprise, Boromir emerged on a horse, his form clad steel. Silver plates of armor adorned his muscular frame, providing a formidable shield for his vital organs. His attire was decorated further with weapons forged from the finest metals, poised and ready to be unsheathed at the slightest hint of danger. She knew he was important.
Though, this newfound knowledge began to stir dread into her soul. Boromir was a soldier—not a sailor. He trained in the art of warfare and killing. If he had been born centuries earlier, he might have been among those who waged war against her kind. He could have one of the hunters who pursued her father. One of those…eel fuckers…as he had put it. Yet, (Y/N) reassured herself that Boromir was different. He valued life. He couldn't be like his ancestors.
(Y/N) followed him, along the river (as much as she could) as the hours stretched on. She watched as he navigated the city as if he knew every turn and every crevice. She observed as he conversed with the people, each one eager to speak to him. She perceived as he stood guard at the entrance of the city, until the sun had set and his shift was taken over by another. And she peered up at him as he ended his nights upon his balcony—only once hearing him speak to another, a brother she guessed, of a lingering feeling of being watched.
For three days, she partook in his routine.
For three days, she made it her own.
And, for three days, she learned all she could about him.
Yes, he was a soldier, but not just any soldier. He was the Captain of the Minas Tirith Guard. He was the son of the Steward, who was ruling in place of a king, for in these times of uncertainty, Boromir stepped forward to help his father protect and care for the city he held so dear. He bore the weight of leadership and responsibility, serving as a pillar of strength and guidance for his people. He was a good man—doing just as much work as the men he commanded.
It wasn't until the end of the third day, however, that Boromir deviated from his routine. Much to (Y/N)’s surprise, instead of going up the path towards the castle, he deviated to follow the river that went along the bend of the white palace wall.
(Y/N) swam deep below the surface beside him, slipping into the center of the pool as he went to the edge.
The Captain of the Guard sat down upon the sandy bank and began to untie his boots. The night was warmer than it had been, for winter had ended and spring was just beginning to break. So, she wasn't surprised, when he rolled up the bottoms of his trousers and stuck his feet in.
(Y/N)’s heart was pounding and her blood ran quickly, for she had never been so close to him since she held his unconscious, drowning form.
It was forbidden.
She watched for a while, as his face and body seemed to droop. The weight of his responsibilities and the burdens of his past seemed to bear down on him. The façade of strength and cheer that he wore for the world gradually faded away, revealing the vulnerability and weariness that lay beneath. Though it wasn't until a tear ran down his cheek that she truly began to worry. Was it the lingering aftermath of the shipwreck that haunted him? Did it have more of a permanent effect on him? It seemed as though the shadow of that dreadful event lingered deep within. She had urged him to embrace life—to survive. But this sadness…was it preventing him so?
Cautiously, she dug in her bag and pulled out the bone carving of the whale. Now was her chance. Maybe she could offer some comfort? Though, she knew she couldn't swim up and hand it to him, for he couldn't know that she was there—not yet, not now. She wouldn't risk her people being known to the land-folk. She wouldn’t endanger them. Her father would surely be furious at her if she did. Besides, if she were to rise now, she would give Boromir such a fright.
Therefore, taking a rock from the bottom of the pond, she positioned herself as close as she dared to Boromir. She ensured that she remained hidden beneath the water's surface, maintaining the delicate balance between proximity and secrecy. She then put her plan into action. She tossed the stone through the water, sending it up with a subtle splash, diverting Boromir's attention to the ripples created in its wake. As quick as a shark—if not quicker—(Y/N) flicked her tail hard. She rose close to the surface and lobbed the whale beside the man before plummeting down into the depths.
When Boromir’s head turned back, he noticed the little craving.
(Y/N) peered up as she watched his confused expression.
His brows pulled together and his lips parted. Cautiously, he picked it up. It fit in his palm quite nicely. Not too big, not too small. His fingers twisted around its delicate form with ease. He examined it, running the tip of his index finger along the length of the piece and his thumb brushing over the flippers. “Where did you come from?” he whispered with a smile.
Boromir stayed at the pond for nearly an hour, (Y/N) staying with him. His fingers aimlessly fiddling with the whale as he gazed up at the stars, taking time to breath—to live. And when he turned to leave, he took the whale with him.
…..
As the next two weeks passed on, (Y/N) adopted Boromir’s routine as a part of her own. Though not every day she could do as such, for her father and sisters began to notice her absence. So, in order to avoid their suspicion, there were stretches of time where she did not get to swim up to the Anduin River. Instead, she spent her hours wandering around her father’s palace, helping with mer-duties and daydreaming of the Captain of Gondor.
However, the days where she gilded upon the waters in Minas Tirith were the most exciting. Now that the weather was warm, the city truly came to life. Markets opened daily where food, drink, cloth, and trinkets were sold. If (Y/N) was lucky, one of such tents would open right beside the river. When no one was looking, she would reach a hand from the water and grab a thing or two. She had gotten to try some very interesting foods; however, she figured they would taste much better if she didn't plunge them into the salty river the second she got her hands on them. Alas, that was the cost of avoiding detection—a price she was willing to pay. (Y/N) also was able to snatch various little objects, but most of the time she didn't know what they were. She found herself wishing that she had received the gift that her father had—the gift of transformation to a legged form. She wanted to be where the land-folk were—where Boromir was.
The captain had begun to stay out later, going to the tavern with his friends here and there. On those nights, he would disappear inside, for hours, and (Y/N) would wait in the river for him to return—in whatever state he would be in. Some nights he would have smiles plastered across his face as he giddily stumbled home. Other nights it would be a solemn expression, a tear escaping here and there, as he swayed like the gentle tide. But the worst nights? Those were the ones that ended in screams from the balcony above the little pool. Nightmares now plagued Boromir’s mind, waking him up and coating him in fear—and sweat. The only relief would be the cold night’s air and the barely audible sound of (Y/N) voice. (Y/N) always knew when those nights had arrived, for they were the ones when his brother, Faramir, had to come to the tavern and get him. It was those nights when Boromir’s body folded and slumped against his brother’s, for Faramir would drape the captain’s arm over his shoulder and drag him back to the Minas Tirith castle. It was those nights when the man, that appeared so strong, would speak in sentences just as broken as he was. It was those nights when he spoke of the shipwreck, of the darkness, of the piece of his soul that went missing in the Black Sea. And just once—he whispered to his brother of her. The woman who saved him from the depths. Those nights—those hurt the most. Yet, despite all this, he carried the whale carving with him everywhere he went—on a string upon his neck.
But, now that the weather was warmer, Boromir came to the pond almost every night that he wasn’t at the tavern…and the nights at the tavern lessened. Here, he would contemplate the sadness and separation he seemed to now have, but it appeared that he had a sort of comfort by the little lake. This comfort may or may not have been another gift from (Y/N). When the captain would stick his feet into the water, the mermaid would hum to heal his heart. The vibrations, subtle they were, would filter through the lake and soak into his skin. As he was not immersed, he could not hear the beautiful sounds, but he would at least feel some of the rejuvenating property it held. It was something he had felt before upon the shore and something he continued to feel when the nightmares drove him to the balcony.
Today had proven to be an unusually scorching and grueling day for Boromir. The relentless sun beat down upon him, intensifying the already restless atmosphere among the people. Amidst the sweltering heat, he found himself engaged in a relentless pursuit of a thief who had attempted to snatch a coin pouch from the frail hands of an elderly woman. Luckily for the Captain, a little puddle of water mysteriously slithered out in-front of the thief, causing him to slip and allowing Boromir to arrest him.
Given that that activity, and more, took its toll upon the man of duty, Boromir found himself in the shelter of the tavern with the comfort of his friends. However, that appeared to not be enough, for that night Boromir left the tavern and wandered to the pond—(Y/N) slithering in the depths of the Anduin by his side.
Under the water on the lake, (Y/N) floated in the soft currant, her eyes closed and her humming drifting through the ripples. She was content and was hoping to bring some of that serenity to the man that was to put his feet in the pool. This, of course, explained why she was so startled when his entire body dove into the water. With eyes as wide as the full moon, (Y/N) twisted her form to stare in fear and alarm at the man that stripped to nothing but his undergarments and sunk only six feet across from her. But true terror did not hit her until Boromir’s eyes opened.
When those bright blue eyes met hers with just as much horror, if not more, he instantly scrambled backwards—her doing the same.
Maybe if they both had stopped to see just how scared the other was, they would have realized that they were not in danger; but instinct had taken over as they desperately tried to get away from each other.
Luckily enough, it appeared that they had not been alone. A large hand shot down from the surface and gripped upon Boromir’s arm. In seconds, he was pulled up and out of the water—gasping and fumbling upon the bank.
“What the hell, Boromir?!” the voice of Faramir sounded.
The Captain scrambled upon the sand and muddied land, backing away from the water frantically. “T-there w-was–down there, the water, Eru, d-down there—s-something. Mermaid.”
“Boromir, are you drunk?!” he snapped. “By the Valar—you are! Again?!”
“F-Faramir, there was-was a woman down there,” the captain murmured, struggling to stand.
His brother sighed in dismay as he grasped onto Boromir’s arm once more and helped him steady. “You have been having too many conversations with Iwar…and too many drinks.” He pulled upon the captain again. “Let’s get you in bed before you decide to go for another drunken swim.”
With that, Faramir helped dress his brother—just enough to get past the guards without embarrassing the intoxicated captain—and guided him home, trying to ignore the blubbering of the anxious mess he led.
(Y/N) stayed still at the bottom of the pond, shock baring her fins from any movement.
Well, damn. Fuck the Forbidden. It really bit her in the tail.
Heya, I hope you're feeling better!!
If you're still taking a spooky monster prompt, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring.
I'm thinking RDR2 Arther Morgan x Mermaid!Siren Reader.
NSFW as in traditional Siren fashion they try to eat and will attack people (if you're cool with that obvs)
I'm thinking that the reader and a few other sirens in her group have been captured and used as a freakshow attraction in Van Horn. Dutch wants to steal them so he can make some money off them, etc. but doesn't realise how dangerous they are. VDL gang steals them anyway.
Arthur being his usual curious self, is drawn to one of them in particular (Reader) and starts to build a bond with her by whatever means necessary.
Can be sexual if you want to get freaky with mermaid anatomy or whatever.
Either way, whether you write this or not, wishing you a speedy recovery back to your usual self 💛
omfg you're so sweet! such a sweetie ❤️❤️ i'm doing so much better thank youu
You sneered at the outlines of the men before you, your nails scratching faint lines into the thick glass. Your tail thrashed in the water, kicking up the dirt that sat thick at the bottom. The water tasted odd, like metal had been rusting in it for years, it didn’t taste clean. It made your skin start to ache.
You missed the taste of the sea.
Even in your deepest of dreams, you could still taste the salt on your skin and smell the brine that pooled beneath your body. How long had it been since you and your friends were snatched up from the sea? Years?
You glared at the men who had their backs to you, making sure to avoid eye contact as they laughed and regaled at how much money they had made off of you all. You could still feel the eyes of what looked to be thousands of people staring at you from beyond the thick glass and murky water you were all kept in.
They always made sure to keep the lid on tight, lest another “accident” happens and you all drown and maim another one of their men.
They had made a stop for the night, settling in some little town riddled with filth if the water they had rehomed you in was any clue. They had stashed your tanks in a stable amongst the four-legged beasts they call horses. Your heart tugged; Some of them were in the same shit show you were in: Forced to perform for the masses because of how different you were from humans. At least they could taste fresh air and even fresher waters.
Your eyes remained pinned on the men before you, narrowing your eyes and wrinkling your nose when one would turn to look at you before laughing with his “pals” only for them all to erupt in laughter.
“Come away from there,” one of your friends called. “It’ll do you no good just staring at them like that.”
A bitter taste settled at the back of your throat as you finally let go of the glass.
Just as you turned to swim towards your friends, the stable doors suddenly were yanked open.
“Dutch, are ya sure ye know what yer doin’?” Arthur didn’t even look over to the other men to his side.
He drew his bandana over his nose and unholstered his revolver as the older man just chuckled.
“Arthur, my boy, think of how much money we’d be gettin’ from this! In no time, we’ll be off in T-”
“Arthur’s right,” Hosea piped up. Dutch shot him a look. “They are dangerous creatures. They’ll think we’re just like their captors. One wrong move and we’re all goners.”
“It’s too late to back out now.”
Dutch unholstered his own revolver and started towards the stable that shockingly wasn’t very guarded.
Arthur followed close behind, eyeing the carts holding dangerous wild animals who eyed them all like they were walking hunks of meat ripe for eating. A shiver ran down his spine at the memory of that damned lion for Margaret that nearly took him down for good. Arthur snuck around the carts with Lenny and John while Dutch, Hosea and Micah took to the front.
A few shots rang out before Arthur and the others raced towards the front doors, already seeing a few bodies on the floor while Dutch had the rest getting on their knees.
“What is it? Money? We can give ya money!” one of the men pleaded.
They were all dressed nicely, better than anyone he’s ever seen in Saint Denis. They had to be from somewhere like New York City with clothes like that; Rich silks that were getting dirty from kneeling on the grimy floorboards covered in horse dung and God knows what else.
“Although ‘m honored for the offer, you fellows have somethin’ else I’ve had my eye on for awhile now,” Dutch smirked.
“Take it! It’s yours! Just let us go!” another of the men pleaded.
“Where are you fellows keepin’ the sirens?”
All of their eyes widened at the question.
“Wh- You can’t! They’re our star attraction!”
Dutch cocked the revolver and pressed it against the man’s forehead, the poor bastard was sweating through his expensive linens to the point where he could smell that pompous aftershave and cologne from where he stood.
“I ain’t askin’ again, gentlemen. The sirens?”
“There’s a wagon there,” Micah sneered, motioning towards the back of the stable with his gun. “What’s in it?”
Just the look on Micah’s face made Arthur want to silence him. Hell, everything Micah did made him want to shoot him dead where he stood.
“Arthur, go check it out,” Dutch motioned to the wagon.
Arthur swallowed thickly but slowly peeled away from the rest of the group. He was careful to step towards the wagon, noticing right away on how huge it was and especially how odd-looking it was. It was the same maroon wood with gold accents and wheels locked into place, but instead of large iron bars to keep whatever is in, it was thick glass.
With a lot of scratches on the inside.
Arthur stepped closer, noticing how murky the water was and how it was pushed back into the darkest corner of the stable away from the horses. The water must have felt so cold and disgusting.
At first, he didn’t see anything in the large tank.
And then he saw multiple pairs of eyes cutting through the darkness. Various shades of colors, but the pair of yellow eyes in the front stuck out to him the most. They were judging him, eyeing him up on whether he was prey to them or a predator. He couldn’t blame them, especially after how long those poor things have been in captivity. It made his heart twist in his ribs.
Dutch had been following this entire thing since Blackwater. It was his next big thing besides all of the other “plans” he had in that odd head of his. He was going to steal the sirens from this traveling circus and pawn them off to the highest bidder.
Dutch came up behind Arthur with a lantern in hand and gun ready in the other. His eyes widened at the sight of multiple eyes glowing the in the murky water and raised the lantern to the glass.
The entire pack of them flinched away from the light, but he really only got a good look at the one in front with the yellow eyes. Their scales had started to lose their color so long ago, there was just a faint trace of blue in the dull scales. Overgrown claws that had been neglected, a long tail curled and twisting the water, a wide fin that had little tears at the ends. He could only imagine how the others looked.
It was cruel to keep them in such disgusting conditions.
“Beautiful, aren’t they?” Dutch gawked. “Let’s get ‘em outta here and back to camp.”
Tumblr media
It was late at night when Arthur left the confines of his tent, staring at the tank wagon at the edge of camp and started towards it with a lit lantern in hand. He saw the bodies in the water all huddled together, clinging to the edges on the tank fast asleep. Except for you.
Upon feeling eyes on the tank, your own parted and stared Arthur down as he walked up, a fire lit under his ass and burned him with determination. He saw you tail thrash a bit in the water, your claws sank a bit into the lip of the tank, the gills on your throat flared. You were trying to intimidate him, to drive him away; Yet you didn’t use your voice to do so.
“Why are you here?” your eyes narrowed.
He mulled over his words, his eyes pinned to yours in a hypnotic trance.
“‘M sorry.” Your eyes widened just a bit, your grip on the edge of the tank lessened. “I know you all’ve been through a lot. Made out to be some monsters, gettin’ looked like yer freaks. It ain’t fair to you all.”
He doesn’t know how long the silence enveloped you both. It could have been minutes, it could have been hours; But you softened up and finally let go of your death grip on the tank and freely floated on the water’s surface.
“You’re not… afraid of me?”
“No.”
“Then why are you here?”
Arthur’s throat bobbed as he swallowed thickly. The way your inhuman eyes searched his, the way the sun shimmered off of your dull scales. It made his stomach flutter in an odd way.
“‘M gonna get ya out of this mess.”
