the patch on her coat is the caduceus, the staff of hermes! in the original text the god did quite a bit to help odysseus on his way. i’d be fascinated to see if projmoon plans on tying that in…

Anytime I hear the argument “Aang taught Katara how to be a kid again” or some variation of that, I get so frustrated because... no? He really didn’t lol??
The one instance we’re shown of Aang “teaching” Katara how to act/have fun like a kid is at the very start of the show when he takes her penguin sledding. Katara had fun, that’s great. And then immediately afterwards shit hits the fan and there’s not really any kid-like fun that Aang shows Katara ,and that they both participate in, for the rest of the show other than their dance in the Footloose episode......... in season 3.
That’s not to say that Katara doesn’t have fun for the entirety of atla in-between those 2 instances. But Aang is not the source of those moments of levity for Katara nor is he responsible for it. Instead Aang becomes yet another thing for Katara to be responsible for. Another mouth to feed. Another person to clean up after. Another brother to take care of.
It also, imo, does Katara an extreme disservice by implying that she has no idea how to have fun anymore. You think Katara wouldn’t love to be able to practice her bending everyday without interruption? To have time for herself? To travel and see the world and everything it has to offer?? If it weren’t for the war and taking care of her family after her mother’s death, and her father and the other men left, I have no doubt she’d be doing all of those things. Katara knows how to have fun (even if it’d be a different version of fun than the rest of the gaang’s), she just doesn’t have the time to have it.
What’s more, I don’t think Katara would want to act or be treated like a kid. Even when it comes to having fun. She liked the penguin sledding, but every other time Aang is shown having juvenile fun and taking off to act like the kid he is, Katara is shown to be less than impressed. Because Katara is not a little kid anymore, she’s a teenager, and she can never go back to being a little kid.
Katara didn’t need to be shown how to act like a kid again, nor did she need to be taught how to have fun. She already knew how to do those things, it was the circumstances surrounding her home life that prevented her from enjoying her childhood. What she needed was not to have to take on such heavy responsibilities at such a young age while also having to deal with the trauma of losing her mother and the ever-looming threat of the war.
And what she didn’t need was to become the primary caretaker of a 12-year-old child who would eventually become her husband. 😒

It feels like the only two options laid out in front of willie right now, are to come out and be a gay crown prince knowing the media attention it will get, and the conversation about queer power will that follow him the rest of his life. Or to hide it, and chose to not be the voice that starts that conversation, not being himself. We all know Wille already does not like media attention, and while I hate the way the queen talks to her son, I think it says something about her that she knows it will be very difficult for him to handle. Even though he fought her at first, she was right in a way to say he is young and maybe he is not ready for that fight yet. I feel like if she knew willie was ready to start a revolution per say, she would back him up. But it’s so obvious he just wants to be left alone. his life was set up with two options, to change the world or to hide from it completely with no in between. And the thing that hurts the most about it, The deadline to make that choice came way sooner than he could’ve possibly ever been prepared for. To make a life-changing decision at such a young age, knowing no matter what you choose you will be unhappy with the outcome because you just weren’t ready yet. I don’t know, I’d like to think that though executed wrong, the queen was right in a way to want to keep him safe longer, give him more time. August really stole so much from him and made it a lose-lose situation for everyone. As much as I want to see willie start a revolution with Simon and fight back and stand up, he is so young and it’s so much to take on. I’m so curious how s2 will show this, maybe there is no perfect happy ending and I don’t expect there will be, at the very most I hope it is bittersweet.

I think my favorite thing about doing ginger red hair instead of cherry red hair is: lying to people about it
#I love the cherry red / wine red and I'll probably go back at some point bc it's my Origin.#but for now.#I don't actively lie to people but bc it's a Natural and Plausible hair color#and I'm already pale and I dye my eyebrows to match my hair. ppl figure it's natural#and it has come up MULTIPLE TIMES. and I've recently been rolling with it instead of correcting ppl. bc who cares?#recent examples that come to mind (but I did correct them in this one) my surgeon assuming it was natural#and using my genetics as a natural redhead as a baseline to tell me about what I can expect from my future scarring#and then again later with the anesthesia. they were going to dose me differently#the anesthesiologist glanced at me when I came into the OR and was getting the stuff ready on his cart#and when he heard me talking to my doc and re-telling him that oh the hair isn't natural#he was behind the curtain like FUCK#taking shit off his cart and quietly redoing his setup#that's how I learned that redheads need higher doses of anesthesia than other ppl.#they also need more of the topical stuff like lidocaine. apparently they metabolize it faster(?)#ANYWAY he was going to up my dose thinking I needed it lol#so i almost got way more sedatives and pain meds than i needed bc of my hair dye LMAOOO#other more Normal Life examples was a country dude in full hunting gear holding a door open for me someplace#and I said thank you and he lifted his hat up to point at his (natural) red hair and said ''twins!''#this one sticks with me because that was such a cute thing to do. what the hell#and at snakefest I was talking to some people at their food truck. there was an older guy who trapped me into a convo for like 30mins#he was Very Nice. and they were going to some type of irish festival next and said I should go too bc I'll be right at home#flat out just was like. this bitch looks irish#and I don't know why all of this is so funny to me. it has no reason to be.

I just think there’s something really integral to Kaz’s character and the concept of “was there no one to protect you?”
Kaz who watched out for all the others and saves them (albeit for non altruistic motivations). Every one of the crew would be in a worse place without Kaz’s intervention despite its uncharitable reasons, Jesper to his creditors and rival gangs, Inej to the Menagerie, Nina to Pekka’s brothel, Matthias to Hellgate, and especially Wylan, who serves as a direct character foil to Kaz, to harbor or the violence of the Barrel.
Kaz who had and lost his older brother to watch out for him. Who saw his brother fail. Who only is beginning to grapple with the fact that his brother was also failed and deserved someone to watch over him too.
Kaz who was left all alone and had no one, who treats gangs as a means to an end as opposed to the lens of family others treat it. Kaz who never joined the gangs until he was much older and only because it would give him leverage against Pekka. Who kept Per Haskell at an arm’s reach after learning how characters like him only pretend to watch out for you. Only pretend to protect you
Kaz who takes on the symbol of the crow because “they tell each other who to look after and who to watch out for.” Kaz who protects his crows, the only way he knows how. “Was there no one there to protect you?” As a character Kaz refuses weakness and believes caring for others makes you weak and he preaches this to the end but his actions demonstrate again and again that he will go down the ship. He goes back for Inej at the harbor, he wants Inej to have a net, he gets Jesper HIS guns back, he won’t give over the pareem, he let’s Nina try to get the Grisha out, he encourages Wylan, reveals Wylan’s mothers location and gives Wylan back his money, he can’t face Matthias’s final send off, he tries to sacrifice himself at the Geldrunner so his crew can get out.
And I think that’s really neat. He’s a twisted version of ensuring that no one else goes through what he did. I mean he definitely isn’t nice about it but I think that’s why Kaz doesn’t scoff when Inej askes that question. Deep down he wants that too and he makes his own, making the creation of the Silver Six all the more telling.

I kind of hate all the comparisons between kipperlily and like. Those fuckass "affirmative action fucks me over I wish I was [minority] so it would be easier" people because none of that. Is what she said. She said the bad kids already had more experience with adventuring before they got to augefort and it meant they had an advantage. Which is true. Yeah Riz was lower-class but his mum was a COP. Riz, Kristen and Fig had parents who were heroes (Sandra-Lynn is an active ranger, Kristen's parents are paladins, Sklonda is a rogue), Adaine's family was super rich and politically influential, Fabian had both. Gorgug's the only one who wasn't actively at an advantage [IN THE CONTEXT OF HAVING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HEROISM] and she didn't have shit to say about him. Kipperlily was the first person in her family to try heroism, the bad kids are largely legacy admissions.
Additionally to the people comparing it to the "anti-affirmative action" crowd: do you know what affirmative action is. The bad kids didn't receive special consideration on their admissions to aguefort or scholarships or additional financial support or extended assessment times or anything. How could she be mad about affirmative action if none of these people received affirmative action. What they DID have was knowledge about their classes that started much earlier than high school, which is what Kipperlily said in her file that she thought grading should be adjusted for because she did not have that.
To me it's less like affirmative action and more like augefort is like an IQ test. They pretend that it's fair and objective, but you can be taught how to do those things from a younger age, and if your parents took the time to teach you pattern recognition and shit then you'll do better on an IQ test than someone who wasn't trained for it and everyone will act like that makes you innately smarter when it doesn't. It just means someone taught you how to do that earlier.
Barring Gorgug, every one of the bad kids had access to information about heroism and their class at a younger age than Kipperlily did, which primed them for success in their classes. Every one of them got additional information about mysteries from their families (and even direct battle-tactics training from Bill), Riz especially with getting classified info out of his mum. Kipperlily does not have hero relatives. She's the first in her family line to attend a hero school. She knew nothing about it before her first day, meanwhile Kristen was already the chosen of Helio, Adaine had already been attending the best wizard school in the country, Fabian had already spent his whole life training with his father, and Riz was already involved in solving mysteries using info and tactics he got from his parents.
They aren't necessarily "privileged" (except Fabian and Adaine), but Kipperlily didn't say they were, she said that in the specific context of attending a hero school they had a prior-knowledge advantage. Saying they didn't is like comparing the grades of a kid who's academic career started with preschool with a kid who didn't attend until middle school and acting like one of them wasn't better prepared.

PJO Fancast (6/?) → Iñaki Godoy as Leo Valdez
Leo looked like a Latino Santa's elf, with curly black hair, pointy ears, a cheerful, babyish face, and a mischievous smile that told you right away this guy should not be trusted around matches or sharp objects. His long, nimble fingers wouldn't stop moving—drumming on the seat, sweeping his hair behind his ears, fiddling with the buttons of his army fatigue jacket. Either the kid was naturally hyper or he was hopped up on enough sugar and caffeine to give a heart attack to a water buffalo. "Anyway," Leo said, "I hope you've got your worksheet, 'cause I used mine for spit wads days ago. Why are you looking at me like that? Somebody draw on my face again?"

“Chester” seems to be getting more powerful as the episodes go on, and I have an idea as to why.
To start he was only reading out (seemingly) random statements that OIAR staff had already been sent, but now he seems to be directly responding to what’s going on around him - first sending Sam the email with Gerry’s address, and then reading out a statement regarding The Magnus Institute just after Sam had been talking about it (two important things to note with the second example are that Sam was not using his computer before this, and that Jon only started talking after Celia left the room).
And I wonder… is Jon feeding the Eye to gain this power?
Regardless of if you think the Fears are the same as they were or different now, there have still been statements centred around that voyeuristic fear the Eye specialises in, indicating that it is still around, new form or no. Is Chester reading these stories having the same effect as Jon reading statements in TMA - he is feeding his patron and in return it is making him stronger. Will it be enough to bring him back completely?
And what does this mean for the popular theory that Augustus is actually Jonah?
