thinking abt that "sketchbooks arent meant to be pretty" thing again and GENUINELY the pretty sketchbook trend absolutely ruined sketchbooks for me and It Is Sad. when i was in high school i was filling up a sketchbook like ONCE A MONTH and now im lucky if i even doodle one page in my sketchbook that often. there's this very popular trend (especially on insta and tikitok) where a lot of artists feel the need to make their sketchbooks as pretty and aesthetically pleasing as possible, almost like an art book with every page being a finished piece w beautiful composition....which has made the act of drawing in my sketchbook so incredibly intimidating. i keep thinking "oh god what if i bring this sketchbook to work and someone wants to look at it and all my art is bad and cringe. i'd be so embarrassed" BUT THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT A SKETCHBOOK IS FOR!! TO BE MESSY!! AND BAD AND CRINGE!!
