whatever u do don’t think about seungmin having his first moment alone w his newborn baby while reader is sleeping after giving birth

why would you do this to me.

“is dad ready to hold her?” the nurse asks with a bright smile.

the smile doesn’t help seungmin’s nerves, but at least the nurse isn’t judging him for his lack of confidence. you fell asleep a few minutes ago, the adrenaline and the pain and all the endorphins calming down slightly and you were out like a light.

seungmin didn’t want to leave the room, just in case you woke up and needed something. after seeing you give birth to an actual living baby seungmin thinks you’re the coolest person in the world—although he definitely thought that before—and it would be unacceptable for you to need something and not get it right away.

so seungmin stays sat in what chan called “the dad chair” that was placed at the edge of the room.

“i’m nervous,” seungmin answers the nurse, unsure exactly how to hold his baby, scared to death of hurting her in any way.

the nurse gives him a knowing look, smiling softly before she takes a step closer.

“it’s real easy, dad!” she assures him, “and babies really like that skin contact. so if you feel comfortable let’s try that!”

seungmin nods. he does not feel entirely comfortable taking his shirt off but considering she’s a nurse, the same one that saw your whole birth process, seungmin thinks a little bare chest isn’t at all interesting to her.

he situates himself that way she guides him to, back straight and legs firmly on the white tiles of the hospital room.

slowly, and with a big reassuring exclaim, the nurse places his little girl in his arms.

she’s so small. she’s so so small and delicate and seungmin wants to wrap her up in all the cotton wool in the world but then how would he be able to make her laugh?

his whole world stops when she presses her small face into his chest, moving closer to his warmth.

seungmin feels like every moment of his life has led him to right now, to her, to his little small baby and her impossibly small fingers, opening and closing slowly as she lets out the cutest little squeak seungmin has ever heard.

“what was that?” he whispers, “you love daddy?”

she opens her mouth slowly, her eyes still closed shut, and seungmin decides he’s going to let her off the hook for not answering. she’s had to make a long journey to come out and besides, he has a lifetime with her to make sure she loves her daddy as much as possible.

“seung,” he heard softly, pulling him out of his dreamy bubble.

“bubs?” he looks over at you, watching your dazed face looking around the room. “do you need anything?”

“my phone,” you make weak grabby hands towards the air.

“what do you need it for?” he asks, looking down at the bundle in his arms.

“picture, need to take a picture,” you mumble.

seungmin chuckles. “bubs, you need rest. you can take pictures of us later.”

“promise?”

“yeah, baby,” he says softly, “i’ll be holding her forever actually so all you’ll be able to do is take a picture.”

he manages to make you laugh, although it’s weak and your eyes droop shut a moment later.

“she’s mine now,” seungmin says with a grin.

you shake your head softly, too tired to retaliate but the content smile on your face is enough for seungmin.

he slowly taps his big finger against his daughter’s small one and smiles to himself as the room fills with nothing else but his two girls breathing softly.
