I had a dream that during an interview leonard nimoy talked about a cut scene during TOS where spock was on a space station teaching a group of children from a bunch of different races - human, klingon, andorian, cardiassian (even tho they were introduced in TNG iirc), etc - about appreciating the value of every creature's life, all while holding/petting a tiny brown bunny near his chest and the gentlest of smiles and it was the sweetest thing

I vaguely remember him saying something along the lines of "these little four legged devils are the bane of doctor McCoy's existence, but still hold many virtues" and it was precious. Nimoy said something like he wanted spock to smile even the tiniest bit during the scene because it's something he truly believes in (IDIC) and is passing along to children; his father was a teacher as well as an ambassador and spock eventually becomes one too in twok (and in many ways this smile was leonard nimoy shining through the character of spock)

Too old to stand on his own and all, he means. Though, to kids like this - way too damn young to be on a starship, it's a thought that reoccurs every time he sees Chekov, too - he supposes they all seem geriatric.

The Graysons

Nap time was sacred in the Grayson household. After lunch had been devoured and playtime had been played, you would all gather in the living room and toss blankets and pillows onto the floor before all curling up together for a nap.

It started when Alice was barely a week old. Neither you or Dick had any energy to step foot from the small square of warmth between the coffee table and the couch that had become Alice's spot. The both of you frequently fell asleep next to each other on the floor, watching over your little one as she slumbered on. And thus family nap time was born.

Now that Alice was almost 4, naps were a little less vital for her but as you hit the 6 month mark of your pregnancy and Dick started going back to his duty as Nightwing- naps were a necessity to the grown-ups. So you threw on some Bluey for your daughter to watch and curled around her little body as your husband wrapped an arm around your pregnant belly and nuzzled his nose into the back of your head. 

You both were passed out before the theme song ended.

A soft crunching brought you back from sleep. You groaned, now feeling uncomfortable as your front is cold while your back is overheating. You shoved Dick away from you, getting immediate relief from his furnace-like body but something was still wrong.

The TV was paused on an image of the cartoon dogs your daughter loved so much, but she was nowhere to be seen. “Ali?” You called, your voice raspy with sleep, but you were met with more soft crunching.

You groaned and sat up, your stomach churned as your baby woke up with you. “I know I know.” You whispered to them, standing cautiously, taking note that the sun had long-since set. Dick was still asleep at your feet, now curled around a pillow instead of your soft body. 

A thud came from the kitchen, distracting you from the sight of your handsome husband. A dull blue light filtered into the living room from behind the huge L-shaped couch. Now curious, you stepped around Dick quietly and tip-toed into the fully renovated kitchen.

Your brows scrunched in confusion- the fridge was wide open, providing the light you had seen from the living room but all other lights were off. “Ali?” You called out again, causing the crunching to stop. 

There was a clatter of dishes and then the fridge slammed shut. “'M here mommy!” Alice called back in a sickly sweet voice that she always used when she was in trouble. You smiled as she rounded the kitchen island. She wore an oversized hoodie, it flaring out around her legs from where it covered the black tutu she wore constantly these days. 

Her dark hair was in cute little buns at the top of her head, still somehow perfectly styled even after a day of play with her father. “What are you up to, baby bird?” You rub a hand over her head as she clutched at your pyjama pants.

“Nothin'.” She responded but her eyes darted over to the fridge.

You sighed. “Were you doing something you weren't supposed to?” She shook her head reluctantly. “Then I guess you wouldn't mind if I got a snack would you?” Her eyes went wide.

“Lemme get it for you mommy! You need rest!” She attempted to shove your legs to send you back to the couch but stopped when she saw your raised eyebrow. Alice scurried off, once again disappearing behind the island counter.

One of the cabinets slammed open, there was a rustle of plastic and then she returned, her tiny arms laden with her favourite snacks almost as if she were giving up an offering. “Here mommy! Now go sit.” You laughed under your breath at her antics.

“Alice, it's ok if you were hungry and wanted to get yourself a snack but you know not to go into the fridge without daddy or I to help you, you could’ve made a very big mess.” Her head lolled forward in shame. She dropped all her snacks to the floor in favour of \lifting her chunky hands above her head.

You did not hesitate to scoop her up and sit her on her wide hip. Immediately, she burrowed her face into your neck. “Sorry momma.” She murmured, her breath warming your skin. Placing a kiss to her soft forehead, you walked into the kitchen.

“That's ok baby, I know you were probably getting really hungry while daddy and I slept huh?” She nodded. The kitchen floor was spotless, which was surprising considering your daughter was about as graceful as a drunk giraffe, but there was a suspicious looking spoon on the ground.

Ignoring it for now, you went to the large fridge and carefully pulled open the door, bracing yourself for what you were about to find.

One of Dick's boxes of cereals sat on the second lowest shelf, slowly leaking milk onto the glass below while the half-empty jug sat open next to it. Unable to stop yourself, you laughed aloud, jostling your daughter who now rested on your chest.

It was an incredibly familiar sight from long before Alice was born. Dick used to frequently pour milk directly into bags of cereal in order to eat directly out of the box to cut down on dishes. 

You gave Alice a loving squeeze and set her down on the tile floor. “Good job not making a mess baby but maybe next time we can use a bowl and not the box.” She nodded in agreement, her smile returning now that she knew she wasn't in trouble. “Ok, let mommy clear this up. How about you wake up dad and get him to order us some pizza?”

Her little feet slapped against the floor as she ran off back to where her dad continued to slumber. With some effort, you retrieved the spoon and threw it into the sink before grabbing the soggy cardboard and throwing it into the trash just in time to hear a pained cry from Dick.

Standing on your toes, you were able to see that she had slid on her knees onto the blankets and then directly into his gut, violently waking him. “Hey there birdie.” He groaned.

“Mommy says we get pizza!” She shouted at him.

“Oh does she? And is mommy paying for this pizza?” His arms wound around her, tugging the small girl to his chest as she giggled.

“Daddy's paying cause obviously someone's been eating directly from the cereal box again and his little clone has picked up the habit.” At least he looked shameful as he glanced at you with a shy smile.

“Ok daddy's getting pizza!” Alice cheered and you rolled your eyes, somehow not being annoyed at all.

I was going to put single dad König in this same post, but then it started to go on and on, and I want to take my time with the second half of your ask as well, so all my König thoughts will go in a separate post. Thank you for enabling me :3

(also this is the post I lost 3 paragraphs worth of writing on. It was literally all of Price and Ghost's sections, so forgive me if they're not up to par).

Price: With three kids, there are bound to be spats. Brianna taking something of Alice's without asking, Clara ruining one of the older girls' possessions, etc. etc. People see Price with all girls and remark how peaceful his house must be, but Price (and anybody who has a sister) knows that is NOT true. The Price home is chaos interrupted by periods of peace. Luckily, their dad is a literal military captain, so he's able to whip them into shape. All manner of crying, yelling, and shrieking can be silenced with one singular "GIRLS!" from the man himself. Then after that comes the soothing and the stern talking-tos.

Ghost: I think Simon was great with kids pre-Roba, he had Tommy and then his nephew Joseph. But post-Roba and his work in the special forces, he's much more rough around the edges. Like I said in the main post, Caden is a pretty quiet kid, so I can't see him starting or getting into any trouble. But he is still a 10 year old, so I can see him throwing a fit when he's frustrated or uncomfortable. If this happens in public, Simon will pull him aside and talk to him quite sternly, especially if Caden is making a ruckus as an emotional outlet. In private, he gives Caden space to let it all out, and then talks to him afterwards. However, if Caden can articulate what's upsetting him, he's very gentle and understanding. One way or another, I can see Simon getting help with his PTSD, so he uses a lot of techniques that his therapist taught him with Caden.

Soap: I imagine Elodie as about 6-7 years older than Thomas, who is a literal baby, so I can't see that they get into any fights. Mostly Elodie getting cranky about Thomas getting all the attention, at which point Johnny has to reassure his daughter and give her some love as well. When they're older, Elodie is a classic older sister who fucks with her little brother. She's never truly malicious, but there are definitely times when Johnny's standing in front of them sighing and pinching his nose because Elodie's played a nasty prank on her brother. Johnny's a very picks-his-misbehaving-kid-up-like-a-doll-and-gives-them-a-noogie kind of parent. He's never raised his voice at his kids, but instead has an "if what I think is happening is happening, it better not be" tone that instantly strikes fear into his kids' hearts. I can hear it in my head. I know you guys can hear it in your head too. 'Nuff said.

Gaz: It's hard to say what it's like when Kyle's kids fight: I can see Violet being the sort of girl who is quite close with her younger brother, so I can't really imagine a lot of scenarios in which they would fight. But Elliott is a younger brother and Violet is a growing teenage girl, so there have probably been a few times when Violet got mad at Elliott and screamed at him or said something that she regretted. Kyle and Emily will both scold the kids when they step out of line, and they both do their part when it comes to discipline. Kyle in particular is a very "I'm not mad at you, I'm just disappointed" sort of parent. He expects a lot of Violet, but sometimes that pressure can get to her.

König: This man is overwhelmingly soft for his daughter. The calmest, most gentle giant. I think out of all the dads he's most susceptible to spoiling her, which obviously could become a problem. He's incredibly lucky though, because Ava is an angel. She is spoiled, being an only child on her daddy's colonel salary, but she gives more "kind rich girl" vibes than "inconsiderate little brat". I'm going to elaborate more on this in the upcoming König post, but he's got this deep sadness to him because he lost his wife. Ava is a pretty perceptive child, so she doesn't act out unless she's having a really hard time, in which case König is nothing but soothing and reassuring.

Horangi: If Ryujin (Hong-jin's daughter) has beef with you, he's kicking your ass right alongside her. When she was young, she was fully capable of both starting and finishing fights, and Hong-jin was an incorrigible enabler who was more likely to double over laughing than scold his daughter. Her mother usually had to be the disciplinarian. Hong-jin and Ryujin have a complicated relationship, but in adulthood, they're pretty even keel, and have grown even closer since the death of Ryujin's mom.

Keegan: Jason and Cecelia have been through a lot together, so they don't really fight. When they do though, it's nasty, and Keegan serves as more of a go-between than a disciplinarian role. Both of them will seek advice from him, but he understands that they know each other better than he does. Not for lack of trying, of course, but it's inevitable with older adoptions. His role comes from having more life experience, and he's got a kind of impenetrable chill that makes everybody a lot calmer.

Reading some fan fiction, I kept coming across phrases that when McCoy smiles, he can look like a Cheshire cat. And this detail could not get out of my head in any way. McCoy likes the forest, so it's not surprising that Alice would be able to find him there. At the same time, he is quite bold with the authorities both in the book and in the cartoon. Therefore, so far he is the most suitable candidate for this role. And they both have soft paws

Damn. I did it literally in one breath without putting it off for later. I actually had difficulty choosing a palette for McCoy in this image. But at the same time, I wanted it to suit him and the Cheshire cat to be recognizable (which I hope). To be honest, even now I'm not completely sure, but this color option is not bad.

I want to draw other characters of this country, but I can't decide on the roles yet

i think the reason why i don’t really care so much about paramount insisting on telling new stories with legacy characters is because i see the tos characters in the same way that i see like, spider-man, alice in wonderland, dracula, romeo & juliet, james bond, etc.

my favorite take on peter pan is probably different than yours, your favorite version of spock may be different than mine. but they’re all peter pan, and they’re all spock, and isn’t it so cool to have so many different interpretations of these characters and stories?

i want there to be a new guy playing a new version of jim kirk every now and then, in the same way i think it’s fun that every few years we’ve got a new guy playing batman, or a new take on wolverine in the comics. i want star trek to join the canon of classic stories and characters, to be adapted over and over again as the years go on. i want to get to a point where we’re getting adaptations of jim and spock that are so loose they’re barely recognizable and stand completely on their own, like what house md is to sherlock holmes.

200 years from now, after society has collapsed and there’s no way to truly engage with TOS in its original form, i want people to be telling stories about the USS enterprise and the brave crew who ran it the way we tell stories about the trojan war.

there has to be a balance of course, and i do agree that the focus should always be on creating new characters to tell stories with. but im never going to be upset at a new take on TOS. i don’t think it’s such a bad thing to keep these legacy characters alive. after all, we’ve been doing it for centuries.
