TSUKUMOGAMI
bullet points for future use
yan! batfam x weapon! tsukumogami! reader
note: tsukumogami are tools that acquired spirits but in my version im thinking they’re more like spirits that gain the form of tools.
I like to think reader is a more fluid tsukumogami. like a weapon version of beast boy.
one of the more younger teen titans.
a new recruit. most likely through nepotism 💀 because ofc
enemies to friends to inseparable partners to lovers with damian wayne ftw
talia ships you two cause what’s more badass than her son marrying a goddamn katana spirit like even she can see that it’s a match made in heaven
bruce bribes reader to make their blade dull so that damian doesn’t kill anyone
you’ve been forced by jason to turn into a gun quite a few times. though i headcannon this reader to be more on batman’s side on the ‘no kill’ rule purely because they’ve most likely been exposed to too much death
meaning jason, especially if they’re close never uses reader to kill
but will often blackmail them
tim and you were partners prior to damian
he once asked you if you could turn into a dildo
you said if that you were wielded with the intention to harm someone then yes
he promptly came in his suit
you have beef with dick’s escrima sticks
he likes to compare you with it whenever you chose his brothers over him for a mission

Roronoa Zoro, O-67 ~ Mirror Sex
Summary: Drabble of kinky mirror sex with Zoro - who is technically posessing the mirror. Is inside the mirror? Is the mirror? Instructions unclear, but reader fucks a mirror.
Warnings: Spicy, female reader implies, Zoro is an Ungaikyō (I was originally going to do poltergeist Zoro but I learned so much about Yokai and Tsukumogami and since Zoro would be from Japan irl per Oda, I wanted to pay respect to his heritage as best I can while writing what I write, jokey summary aside that's just my personality. I'm doing it in the same way I used Scottish lore for the Killer (and Eustass Kid) fic on Monday), Reader is technically kidnapped and it might be dubious consent if you look at it a certain way. Idk adding the tags to not scare or harm. Word Count: 646
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoro as an Ungaikyō
You didn’t know where the mirror came from, just that it stood at your doorstep the day after you moved into your new place. It looked cleaned and cared for, and the standing mirror’s ornate frame was unlike anything you’d ever seen before. Of a metal you couldn’t hope to identify. Free is free – you placed it in the corner of your bedroom next to your walk-in closet and didn’t think much about it for a few months.
You weren’t sure if you looked amazing because of the lighting or angles or what, but that mirror had you feeling yourself. You used it more than your bathroom vanity, favorite compact, or the large circular mirror hanging on the wall next to your front door so you could spot check before leaving your place. You LOVED your mirror. You once got drunk and self-pitied after a bad date and kissed your mirror just off to the side. You never wiped it off.
Then HE showed up. A few nights after the kiss mark. You had tried to sleep but were restless and horny with no one to do anything about it. So you grabbed your trusty vibrator. You heard a deep voice encouraging you, giving you hints and ideas. At first it scared you, but you didn’t find the source of the voice (even after inspecting for spyware, peepholes, hackings, and had your place raided by the cops twice) and then you decided to let it enable you. It went on for a month before he finally showed his face in the reflection of the mirror. When you were brave enough to demand he make himself known.
His name was Zoro. He said his soul gained consciousness inside the mirror after over a century of being trapped inside it. Unable to leave. He said he didn’t know how he came to be at your doorstep, and that he had no recollection of the previous owner as he had gained consciousness a month after you found. He was fucking gorgeous – tall, ripped body, scars over his body and face, three dangling earrings from one earlobe. Why the appearance? He said it felt right. And you couldn’t argue, the sight alone nearly made you drool. Especially when you developed a mutual relationship. He didn’t have to hide anymore, and you didn’t need to be disappointed by fuckboys.
Your bond cemented when you saw his cock. That he was able to get aroused and release like a mere mortal man. You made yourself cream and rubbed it against the reflective surface.
For months you fucked that mirror. Being able to work from home and not having a social life, and giving up on dating, meant you were able to cum for days straight. You went as far as attaching a life-size ejaculating dildo to the glass surface. You laid it on the floor and rode him until you were a crying, sweaty mess – gushing over your reflections. Fake cum ran from between your legs, his cum spraying his delicious abs.
“I wish you were on this side, so I could fuck you and feel that warmth for myself. Bury deep into you and cum like I’ve wanted since the first time you showed me your beautiful pussy.”
It was then you realized that the ornate frame was actually three swords intertwined and bound to the mirror on around the edges. He said if you really loved him, really wanted to feel his cock push into your tight and welcoming cunt, that all you had to do was let each blade lick your blood. Like giving yourself a paper cut. You trembled, naked and hungry for him. You followed his instruction.
Zoro never once mentioned the part about being able to trap you inside the mirror with him. And you weren’t his only plaything on his side.

Master List (Part 2)
I'm back with the next part of the Master List! This will go over the other elemental masters we see through out the series
A few things before we start. I have no plans to add any Dragons Rising characters YET. I don't have enough info about them to confidently give them a species. But I will probably include them when more info is given.
Also some of these elements were hard to find Yokai for so I had to take some liberties and adjust the original Yokai's powers. I'm sorry if anything is wildly inaccurate I tried my best to not change them too much.
With that said let's get on with it! (this is a long one)
Kitsune - A broad term for the shape shifting foxes of many abilities. They are divided into five ranks and two specific types of Kitsune, Zenko and Yako. The Zenko are good foxes while the Yako are evil/mischevious foxes. Kitsune, not of the elemental master's family, can travel up the ranks based on age. However, Yako can only travel up to the second rank while Zenko can travel up to the fifth.
Chiko - The second ranking of Kitsune. At this point they start to gain more tails and stronger powers. They have the power of Amber. The power's they absorb are temporary and weaker. This rank is generally neutral composed of both Zenko and Yako, leaving them to be wild cards.
Hōō - A regal phoenix-like bird that holds the power of Wind. Similarly to the Kirin they were seen as omens of good luck and symbolizes faith and mercy. Their peaceful nature is not to be tested.
Obariyon - A humanoid monster that holds the power of Metal. In older times, they were the size of children and loved to jump on travelers back slowly turning into metal before crushing them. But, in recent times, they have grown in size and can instantly turn their bodies into metal.
Kūko - The second highest ranking of Kitsune. They have lost their tails, becoming even more human-like, but they still have their ears. They hold the power of Mind and are extremely powerful mind readers. They are wise and tend to help others.
Kodama - Small spirits that hold the power of Nature. They attach themselves to a tree that stands as their live force. They were seen as gods of the trees and protectors of the forest. Being determined they protect their forests making sure they are healthy.
Tsukumogami - An object that has been possessed by a spirit
Zorigami - A type of tsukumogami where the spirit possesses an old clock, usually over 100 years old. This grants them the power of Time. Usually Zorigami will alter their form to hide or disguise the clock, as it is considered their "heart".
Daitengu - The higher ranking Tengu that appears more humanoid with longer noses. They hold the power of Form. They are the most skilled shapeshifters rivaling the powerful Kitsune, mostly because the Kitsune's powers stretch through various ranks.
Kama Itachi - Weasel-like monsters with sickle like claws. They hold the power of Speed and move faster than the wind. They usually live in a family of three.
Nurikabe - Rarely seen they are described as pale and bipedal or as a wall. They hold the power of Light allowing them to turn invisible. In the past they liked to stretch themselves into a wall like being and block paths.
Nobiagari - Beings that are usually seen as shadows at 30cm in height. They hold the power of Shadow. When not stretching to their full height they are cloaked in a shadow. They can stretch up to around 30-40 feet high in their true, solid, form.
Enenra - Beings that are usually seen as smoke. They hold the power of Smoke. Similarly to the Nobiagari they can take a more solid form but are usually seen cloaked in smoke.
Nigawarai - Humanoid beings with horns and green tinted skin and hair. They hold the power of Poison. Their claws are tipped with a sort of unknown poison. This poison, while terribly bitter, can cure stomach pains. There are plans to use this poison in modern medicine.
Kotengu- The lesser ranking Tengu that appears in a more bird appearance with human features. They hold the power of Gravity. In the past they enjoyed floating people up into the air without warning or dropping rocks and other objects on them from above.
Yamabiko - Small dog or monkey-like creatures that hold the power of Sound. They are masterful mimics and can mimic any sound. They are rarely seen and often hide in the forests using their mimicry to scare visitors off.
And that's it! This took a while to find enough different and accurate Yokai to fit the elements, but I did! Even though I probably will not be drawing many of these Yokai... But hey, it's an excuse to learn about more Yokai so it's fine!
There will probably not be another part of the master list for a while as I want to focus on finishing the references sheets for the main characters. The next post will be another reference sheet.
I hope this AU is interesting to you guys. I'm having a lot of fun with it and already have some comic ideas! Hope you guys are having a good day!!

New Players: A Bold Duo Enters The Drug Wars
Good day, Gensokyo, Former Hell, and Animal Realm. Unfortunately due to some extraneous circumstances, I have to write up a few articles myself. Some of them may be short, just like this one, but I’ll do the best I can to deliver information to you all.
Earlier this week, reports of a wave of opium usage in Gensokyo had revealed that there’s a brewing criminal field for these lands. Investigations into the source of the spread have lead some intrepid eyes to Eientei, and by extension some of its members, who beyond earth rabbit Tewi Inaba, will not be named in this article. Tewi in particilar, however, had been the most active of that group in this underground shift, even taking to enter the Animal Realm itself to strike a deal. However, developments on this side of the drug trade have been slow, in contrast to other players.
For the readers from the Animal Realm, you already know of the kush business that Chiyari Tenkajin, the Gouyoku Alliance’s liutenant, had been concocting for the past few weeks, even before the expansion to Former Hell and Gensokyo. It has now begun to expand to those locations, as well, though there had been resistance and failed attempts from multiple tries. However, they still continue to develop this recreational drug, and has been sweeping much of the northern side of the Beast Metropolis.
Finally, though, we come to the new players of this boiling drug battle, and they are from Gensokyo. Famed drum tsukumogami Raiko Horikawa and former tengu business consultant Tsukasa Kudamaki had been plotting a rapid takeover of the industry, enacted through a sweeping raid of rival stashes and selling of their own, magical mushrooms that are naturally grown in Gensokyo’s Forest of Magic. Though relatively recent to this trade, they seem intent to prevent it from spreading aboveground and possibly even oversaturate and devalue the market altogether with this bold venture of theirs.
This multi-world drug war is one that will definitely be remembered- but who will be victorious in the end?
Erda Kaetago is the CEO of Karazata Media.

Seeing the idea of Catarina Devon showing up at Egghead and being a threat being suggested more and more, and how her transformation abilities could potentially be countered by the presence of an unknown person to everyone who isn’t part of the crew/on the Sunny, including Caribou.
The Sunny is expansive enough for say Kiku to have silently remained hidden in a room that Caribou wouldn't be aware of. The moment when the swamp creep was put on the Sunny not being shown has potential for a reveal of that sort for someone else.
The crew getting one over on a member of Blackbeard's crew with knowledge only they have is a cool idea, though what of the skills Kiku are known for?
The structures on Egghead are currently falling apart, the residents are fleeing the island, and the situation is still evolving. Disaster evacuation and relief. During Onigashima, Kiku didn't get a chance to put her wide variety of skills to use, being so thoroughly swept along by force of momentum with the others, engulfed in the single minded pursuit of avenging Oden.
Kaido and Orochi are dead now and the Kozuki Clan have reclaimed Wano after a lengthy and arduous struggle, freeing Kiku, should she show up, to be able to focus on fulfilling just about any role here on Egghead.
An evacuee is panicking? Say some calming words with that reassuring smile of her’s. A piece of the ceiling broke off and is falling towards the crowd? Send a flying slash to destroy it. S-Hawk is approaching or blocking the way out? "Zorojuro, cover this one please!"  People need food or medical treatment afterward? Kiku can assist Sanji or Chopper with either.
And we're still waiting on that toast to welcome Jinbei. Really hope there is a chapter down the line titled "The Party's On!!!" Beyond that, Kiku could offer more lore about Enma. As far as we readers know, Oden has never run out of haki, though what if that's what the deal was with the grim reaper thing?
Maybe Enma, Oden's beloved blade, became a Tsukumogami at some point in the past. An object that gained a spirit after being well loved, or maybe in Enma's case, being used in combat often. It could be a similar idea to the Going Merry's Klaubautermann that Oda is going for.

[Analysis] Natsume Yuujinchou: A Place for Yokai in the Modern World
Tumblr media
Natsume Yuujinchou, crunchroll.com
By: Peggy Sue Wood | @pswediting
Note: Hello, Everyone! So, last summer I took a special course on anime and Japanese culture. During that course, I completed a project discussing Japan's cultural background regarding spiritual beliefs (Shintoism, yokai, etc.) and how these beliefs and myths influence animation and other entertainment media in Japan. For part of the project, I discussed how the mythos lives on today, and how series like Natsume Yuujinchou explore the continued presence of spirits in a modern world–which I've decided to share with you all here. I hope you all enjoy it!
---
Spirituality in Japan is deeply embedded in the culture. This spirituality is, in some regards, foundational to Japan. The native religion of Japan, Shintoism meaning “the way of the gods” or the way of the kami, is a polytheistic and partly animistic belief system that developed from spiritual beliefs and customs from prehistoric times, and while not everyone follows this religion it is critically important to understand as a cultural element routed in the foundations of the country.
Unlike other historically significant, major religions, such as Christianity or Buddhism, Shintoism does not have scriptures or religious documents. Instead, its teachings and beliefs are found primarily within folklore and mythology.
This folklore and mythology present spirits often referred to as yokai or ayakashi (which is a title for spirits that are above water or out of water), and gods, often called kami. According to Shinto beliefs, kami are sacred spirits that take the form of things and concepts important to life, including nature-based or natural phenomena like snow and rain.
Natsume Yuujinchou or Natsume’s Book of Friends is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Midori kawa. The series, and its animated adaptation, explore the place of this folklore and mythology through a modern lens by providing audiences with a bridge into the unseen world of ayakashi or yokai through the eyes of the main character, Takashi Natsume.
Natsume Yuujinchou portrays yokai as diverse creatures with their own personalities, motivations, and emotions rather than as frightening or evil entities and, rather than a super-powered shaman, or summoner, who sways spirits with an unknown magical power to cause change or fight, Natsume's character offers a subtle look into the unseen realm of spirits and how those spirits might be behind those changing winds or small accidents. Essentially, Natsume is the medium for this exploration into the understanding of a yokai's place in the world around us as being natural and, in some ways, necessary.
Throughout the series, we see various famous yokai, such as the Tsukumogami (a general term referring to all sorts of household utensils and other human-made objects which have become a yokai); Snow Woman (a "yuki-onna" which is a female yokai who appears on snowy nights or in the midst of a snowstorm); Kitsune (typically depicted as a multitalented fox that can be a dangerous shape-shifter and it can possess people; but can also be a servant of a god or person, a protector); and Kodoma (directly translates “tree spirit” and has no set behavior or appearance, each tree can have its own, unique spirit, sort of like the Tsukumogami, but the Kodoma are formed out of nature rather than simply coming into being). As an interesting note, the Kodoma actually come into the Natsume Yuujinchou series several times in different forms and with different personalities.
From all of these examples, the audience of readers or watchers can see how these mythical beings exist in the unseen world around us and what that means for the balance of humanity and nature. By viewing the world and objects as, to some degree, living things, the audience is taught empathy and care towards nature and the preservation of both man-made and natural items in our lives.
The series also explores other traditional depictions of Shintoism, Buddhism, blended traditions, and folklore, such as roadside shrines, exorcism, the use of Noh masks, and dancing. These beliefs lend naturally to closely held, wider cultural beliefs in Japan such as the idea of mending things, blending traditions with modern advancement, preserving history, community, and, most importantly, spiritualism. In turn, this helps to demystify these beliefs and make them more accessible to modern audiences.
In Natsume’s story, there is a place in the modern world for yokai and kami–a depiction that seems to match well with modern Japanese culture. The focus is on themes of coexistence, acceptance, and respect between humans and their spiritual beliefs or spiritual counterparts. It creates a story of compassion and understanding for the nature of things and the world, unlike some prominent Western depictions of spiritual influences that seem to show religious beliefs in conflict with modern or scientific ideas.
If you are interested in learning more about the spirituality of Japan and its influences on anime and manga, I highly recommend checking out Drawing on Tradition by Jolyon Baraka Thomas, and–if you haven't already–I hope you will give Natsume Yuujinchou a try as it offers a unique and captivating perspective.

hello i'm here and thinking more about how the shibuya incident affected miyuna! putting it under a read more bc there's spoilers for non-manga readers!
ngl, miyuna is a little ( or maybe a lot ) arrogant at times; it has never crossed her mind that there will be an enemy or obstacle she can't overcome eventually. even going into the shibuya incident, after finding out kokichi was the mole, after seeing all the destruction caused by faux geto and co., miyuna feels confident that everything's gonna be fine. she and her classmates are strong; the tokyo students are strong; the adults are strong; they have gojo satoru, the strongest sorcerer; there's no way they'll lose.
but then she hears gojo was sealed, and miyuna feels apprehension enter her heart. she hasn't felt it since she was younger, new to her family's compound and all their rules. she tries to push it down, though. the rest of them are strong, so it'll work out. it has to.
but then she stumbles up tsugumi towards the end of her fight. i imagine tsugumi would have been plowing through as many cursed spirits as possible in an attempt to save civilians and likely! had to use her binding vow to defeat a particularly strong curse, maybe even pulled out some new techniques. either way, tsugumi looks to be on the cusp of death bc she's barely conscious, wounded and bleeding and unable to heal herself bc she doesn't have the energy anymore.
for the first time in her life, miyuna is genuinely scared.
curses haven't ever frightened miyuna; why would they when she's only ever viewed them as potential partners? when she's never had to face them alone, always accompanied by her tsukumogami? and she's too young to have known much loss. honestly, she's just been lucky to not have lost anyone up until this point. but tsugumi's down, smiling and trying to reassure her with the little strength she has, and miyuna feels sick. she feels sick and tears start pouring down her face before she realizes it. is she gonna lose tsugumi? tsugumi who is so reliable and strong? who took miyuna under her wing despite being opposed to it at first? who encouraged her, looked after her like a sister, cared for her despite how annoying she can be?
tsugumi lives in the end bc miyuna takes her to shoko, but i think more than the rest of the shibuya incident, this moment is what shakes miyuna's resolve and beliefs. she was absolutely powerless to help tsugumi. it's not just she didn't get there in time -- miyuna felt the presence of that curse, and there was no way in hell she could have fought that thing. and all she could do was retreat with tsugumi and pray she got her to shoko in time. in that moment, it becomes painfully obvious that miyuna has had too much confidence in herself and others. it becomes painfully obvious that she's not nearly strong enough to change anything, much less protect anyone.
this is so long asdfg but yeah! unwavering miyuna wavers and probably hesitates prior to and during the culling games. it's noticeable when she fights bc she doesn't just go for it like she would have in the past. now, miyuna is scared and doubts herself -- until she encounters her incarnated ancestor, at least.

"Klefki was designed by Pokémon graphic designer Mana Ibe and inspired by "old mansions and secret keys".[60] It may also be at least partially inspired by the Japanese yōkai Tsukumogami, household objects that gain souls.[56] Video game journalists regarded its design as among the worst of new Pokémon introduced in X and Y[56][61] and characterized the design as uninspired, insipid and strange. IGN readers voted Klefki as the ninth-worst Pokémon from Pokémon X and Y with Justin Davis joking that it was created when a designer lost his keys.[62] Kassandra Khaw of USGamer expressed annoyance that Klefki was so useful in competitive Pokémon play due to how "sloppily designed" she found it to be.[63] GameRevolution claimed that Klefki is their favourite Pokémon despite the criticism that it has received.[64] The A.V. Club stated that they found Klefki's simplicity amusing.[65] Kyle Hilliard of GameInformer claimed that Klefki is his favourite Pokémon in Pokémon Sun and Moon, but described it as the weirdest Pokémon ever.[66][67"

*slides in* may i request for a thoma x male!reader where the reader is a sword tsukumogami ( basically a sword that has gained a spirit and manifested in a human form ) that serves thoma since he accidentally awakened him? i'd like an angst scenario where reader protects him from a group of nobushi and almost breaks as a result ( if his sword form that he wields breaks completely he dies ). if this is confusing please let me know hehe - 🦁
Of course! Thanks for requesting! I decided to study Thoma just for this, I lowkey keep thinking I'm saying his name wrong.

Sɯσɾԃ αɳԃ Mιɳԃ
ᴘᴀɪʀɪɴɢ: Thoma x Tsukumogami!M!Reader
ᴡᴀʀɴɪɴɢ: ANGST
≿━━━━༺❀༻━━━━≾
Thoma was only cleaning up the armory of the Kamisato Clan. Shining and dusting away the swords. Yet without much caution, Thoma knocked one of the elegant swords as it hit the floor. Thoma carefully kneeled in front of it, grabbing the handle then placed his hand under the blade before it began to shook in his hands. Surprised he let the sword drop as he backed away.
"Hey! Don't just drop me twice what's wrong with you?!" A voice came from the sword as it began to move to stand. A form began to shift with the sword before a male of (height) glared at Thoma. "And you think you can show some politeness it's best to apologize, you know!"
Thoma walked around the shore, looking some old hanguards for Ayaka, the tsukumogami stayed sheathed away by his side while his polearm stayed sheated by his back. The sword always did as he wanted but was a great companion to Thoma whenever he had to do something outside the range of Ayaka, otherwise it stayed quiet. The sword hummed, emitting a vibrating sensation as (Name) stayed alerted.
Thoma didn't really spare too much time into questioning the youkai. But he supposed his companion was on guard for a reason.
"Handguards are really becoming so hard to fine..."
"Maybe others already picked them up." (Name) replied. "It could be possible." Thoma rubbed his neck as he thought on what to do before shouting got his attention.
He began to run away trying to shake away the Nobushi, having no desire to start fighting, wishing that eventually they would give up. However this was more than normalcy. Polearm quickly unsheathed before the sword could hit him. The nobushi prepared to attack again before the sword drew himself out and covered Thoma's back, sword against sword made a loud clank.
As the group of Nobushi began to corner around Thoma, the tsukumogami shifted around when Thoma had found himself distracted, parring against the other nobushi as a concerning sound came from the sword's blade. "(Name)!" Thoma called out as he got hit from another sword. "Stay focused! Forget about me!" (Name) responded.
Within time, Thoma and (Name) had taken at most two out of three Nobushi. Exhausted, Thoma backed away yet the Nobushi wanted to end him and take away both the tsukumogami and his polearm. Going to strike again, the same alarming sound came from the sword's blade. (Name)'s sword movements became restless, striking the nobushi before the energy was lost, Thoma quickly moved to catch the sword before it would break completely from the impact of the floor.
"(Name), answer me!"
"Ah... That's the end." (Name) spoke in relief before Thoma let out a relieved sigh. "Your sword..."
"I'll be fine if you get me to the blacksmith....Those swords are always too advanced." While (Name) didn't express it, Thoma knew it wasn't truly the case, holding the sword close as he caught his breath, he moved his hands enough as the sword shifted forms, a hand pressed against Thoma's cheek. (Hue) colored eyes glossy looking as a trail of blood escaped the corners of his mouth.
Thoma wiped away the blood before he held (Name) closer, burying his face into the Tsukumogami's shoulder. He let out a quiet sob. "Thoma..."
"I can't lose you. I can't. Not after all this, please don't do that again, if you can't handle it don't do anything like that-"
"I couldn't just let you die...."
Thoma moved enough to stand up. "Let's get you fixed up, you must be exhausted." Thoma tried to smile. "What about the Handguards for Ayaka- she'll understand." Thoma interrupted him as he carried him back to the nearest civilization.

Chipped sword
Platonic Keiki Haniyasushin x Child sword spirit reader
Tumblr media
(Y/n) barely remember her life before becoming a tsukumogami. She remembers snippets of moments; the proud voice of her creator when he spoke to her first master; then the tired, old voice of this same master before handling her to his son; then the gasps of pain of her second master after being fatally wounded by the enemy general; this same general, taking her away from him and giving her a new name, a name fitting the thirst of blood of this man; then, just screams, cries and blood.
Born to protect, then stolen and used to destroy everything.
Years passed by and, before being strong enough to materialize herself, she was used by humans and yokais alike, then lost somewhere in Hell. The blood of all those people, civilians, warriors and yokais, shedded by her blade tainted her red. Her silver, immaculate blade, was dyed in a bright red, then, as time passed, this bright red turned into a rusty, crumple red. This work of art she was, now looking like an old, useless and rusty sword, forgotten by everyone.
The day (Y/n) succeeded at materializing her spirit outside her body, she was alone, in a part of Hell forgotten by even the ones living here before. The only thing here was an old and worn out samurai armor, the breastplate pierced through with swords. In her spirit form, it was impossible to carry her "body" around, so, she possessed this armor and, resembling a cursed samurai, she walked trough Hell, aimlessly.
She ended in the Animal Realm by chance, by dint of wandering here and there. Here she found spirits, human spirits, begging for help as they were brutalized and enslaved by animal spirits.
She see this as a chance to redeem herself, to finally be able to protect people as she was meant to do. So, to protect the spirits of the Primate Spirit Garden, she challenged the matriarchs of the three beast spirits organisations. She fought hard, each time her armor was shattered into pieces, she used her powers to put it back together and resumed fighting. If her "body" was fine, she was able to fight forever.
But the enemy was clever and understand her true nature, and so her weakness. They attacked her "body" mercilessly, chipping her until she shattered. With her body broken, she wasn't strong enough to maintain her spirit incarnation, she had no choice but to retreat into what was left of her body and stay dormant to prevent her soul to die out.
After her defeat, the human spirits took her shattered body and placed her on an altar, as a token to remember the sacrifice of this sword spirit, died to protect them. And they prayed, they prayed for someone, a deity, to save them from those horrible beasts, may the sacrifice of this devoted sword not be in vain.
And their prayers were heard.
A god was summoned; her name was Keiki Haniyasushin, the Sculptor God Crafted by Utter Isolation.
She created idols, to protect them, to fight for them. They were beasts' slaves no longer. They worshiped those idols, they worshiped them so much that they forgot the sword that sacrificed herself for them.
Keiki sensed the spiritual energy emanating form the broken blade, forgotten on her altar like a simple decorative object. She felt pity on that sword, even broken, she could see that she was created by someone skillful who put everything he had into creating the perfect sword.
So she decided to restore her, bring her back to her former glory, let her see that she succeeded at protecting those spirits.
It was a long and difficult work. Keiki was skillful to created idols, like haniwa, bronze bells, mirrors, swords, and magatama, but restoring a sword who wasn't her creation was more difficult than she thought. After weeks of hard work, she contemplated her finished work: a magnificent bright red katana, whose blade was so sharp it can cut everything brushing against it.
Feeling her body complete yet again, (Y/n) came out of her dormant state and use her newfound strength to materialize her spirit. The first thing she saw when opening her eyes was this strange blue haired woman. She didn't seem to be one of the human spirits, even less one of those horrible beast spirit, so who was she?
"Who are you?" Began asking (Y/n) "I never saw you in this realm before. Are you even a spirit?"
"Well hello young one." Keiki sweetly answered "I am Keiki Haniyasushin, sculptor god of creation. I was summoned by the prayers of the human spirits living here."
"The human spirits? Are they alright?! I-"
"They are safe, don't worry. My army of idols protect them from those beast spirits. The Primate Spirit Garden is under my protection."
"I see..." (Y/n) looked away, a look filled with melancholy sculpting her face. "Thank you, for protecting them, where I failed."
Keiki looked at this sword spirit, she was so young and yet, her gaze betrayed this suffering and these regrets that she was trying to hide. Suddenly, an idea came to her mind.
"Young one, what about you join my army?"
"Join your army? I don't think I will be of any use. Those spirits know how to defeat me, and even if I wanted to, I can't use my body as a spirit and my old vessel was destroyed by this tortoise dragon."
"I can create you one. A cute haniwa body, one of the most detailed, elaborated and human-like I can potter. And with this body, it will be easier for you to fight those beast spirits, since the ones without physical bodies can't harm my haniwa."
"To be honest... I don't really want to fight anymore. I am tired of always destroying everything. I was born only for this exact purpose: destroy. I am sick of it. I- I think I will just sleep in my body for eternity. Maybe one day, someone will use me as a decorative sword."
"Then, how about you start to create things, instead of destroying them?"
(Y/n) looked at Keiki with a surprised expression: create? Is she even able to do that? "Create things? But what kind of things?"
"You can start by learning how to make haniwa! I'm sure you'll find the passion and creativity to create new things if you learn how to create." Keiki seemed excited by the idea, while (Y/n) just looked at her with a dumbfounded look on her face.
"Learn how to create?" (Y/n) smiled softly. "That looks, pleasant, to me."
"So, what are we waiting for? You first lesson start now!" Happily said Keiki while tugging (Y/n) by her arm.
"Wait! Now? But I don't have a body yet."
"I'll teach you the base while pottering your body, so listent well! First, you have to choose the good type of clay depending of what you want to sculpt. I commonly use terracotta to make my haniwa but maybe you'll prefer another type of clay, but for your body, it will be terracotta."
(Y/n) just listened to what Keiki was saying, trying to register what was happening. She felt something warm inside her soul, something she never felt before. It was comforting and nice feeling. Maybe learning how to create wasn't that bad, only if Keiki is the teacher.

Answering old asks
m(__)m
That is all.
Emojis aside, I really am so very sorry it’s taken me so long to get around to responding to messages since the manga ended, I’ve been extremely busy in my personal life so it was kind of all I could do to cope with the manga ending during that time too, haha. As of now even the last volume and fanbook are already out, but I’ll leave a few comments on the messages I’ve been sent as they were. I’m also grouping together messages that are more of readers’ own comments rather than questions for me and responding all at once, so please forgive me if I couldn’t get around to responding individually!
“My heart pains to seeing the end ahahhhhh ashiya and abeno parted waysI really really really hope for something to come next. it kinda feels sad for meabt this ending”
“Honestly I like the ending but I didn’t like how the author left out information about abeno’s background. For instance, what happen to his parents?, where did he come from?, how did he come meeting Ao?,etc. I really wanted to see all of that, including how ashiya told his mom and sister about sakaes death. Other then that, I REALLY LOVE THE PROPOSAL!!! What is with shouen manga/anime with these different type of propsals like, “I’ll skate infinity with you”, “ I will die so you won’t be alone”,etc. Like COME ON!!! I also want to see a adult ashiya and abeno 🙏.”
I feel the same, I love the ending in its own way but I also expected so much more and I wanted to see more of their adventures. So I respect sensei’s decision but that just means it’s a free-for-all in terms of headcanons after!!
“Now that the manga has ended, I really wish the anime hadn't screwed up with the season 2 ending, so we could have gotten a continuation... I really miss animated Fuzzy running around, Ashiya's screaming and Abeno's "Hah?" (´꒳`)♡”
I wonder what they’d do for a season 3 if it ever came to pass. There are a few ways they could go about it like kind of just continuing down the manga, or they could ignore what they animated at the end of s2 and then keep going (Ao no Exorcist style), or I don’t even know, honestly. No matter how dissatisfied I am with how they do anime, I’d still watch it though. :U
“Wow I can't believe it took me so long to realize this! Recently, I noticed that the dynamic between Hanae-Sakae-Aoi-Abeno and the plot revolving around them is very similar to what happens in the manga Switch (Kai-his dad-Hal's dad-Hal). The relationship between Kai and Hal is similar to Hanae and Abeno's. Kai's dad died and this is related to Hal's dad, who has survived thanks to the death of his friend (Kai's dad). Plus Kai manifests what seems to be his dad's personality when he's in danger.”
“So much tears! I really don't want this to end, but I knew it was too good to be true. Though, the way the way the manga ended felt like a new beginning. Hanae made a promise/vow to Itsuki that he will return, no matter how long it takes, so he hopes Itsuki will wait for him. Also, that picture of Sakae and Aoi on the counter makes me hope that Hanae and his family (plus Sakae in heaven) has peace now. I felt like crying more. Thank you for everything and I hope to see you again!”
“ok rip Abeno's past... rip yellow eyes... rip this cliffhanger ending...“
“Suddenly I see that anon ask about OPs and EDs and partings & separations in a new light... darn. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧”
Fittingly enough, Sensei mentioned in the fanbook that Mononokean has always been a story about meetings and partings too, but still...! More...!!!
“I think this ending is very fitting. Ashiya was never truly part of the youkai world, he was always taking one step in only to step out soon after, and going back and forth between loving youkai and being afraid of them. Ashiya's state of employment has always had a "temporary" feeling to it, including, for example, the fact that he never changed his clothes, and his Mononokean-crest clothes were "borrowed". UItimately, Ashiya didn't seem like he could dedicate his life to youkai, unlike Abeno. (continuing from my previous ask about "Ashiya not being part of the youkai world") It wasn't only Ashiya's feelings on the matter that kept him away from the world of youkai. Abeno contributed greatly to this, as he constantly tried to keep Ashiya away from the Underworld, from danger, from knowing too much, and from youkai themselves, even though Ashiya was technically his employee. If Abeno had tried, even a little, to pull Ashiya into his world, Ashiya would have responded to him, I'm sure. (another "Ashiya not being part of the youkai world" ask) The fact Abeno actively blocked Ashiya from his world was the greatest reason why Ashiya didn't feel like he belonged there. But he still felt connected to Abeno, at least. Rather than dedicate his life to youkai, Ashiya seemed like he might dedicate it to Abeno. Yet this feeling was also met with a wall. By the time Abeno realized how precious it was, having someone who saw the same things as him by his side, it was already too late. (last ask in the series "Ashiya not being part of the youkai world") Ironically, the Mononokean and most other youkai were more open and willing to welcome Ashiya into their world. Still, if and when Ashiya can see youkai again, I hope Abeno will have realized the opportunity he'd wasted. When these two reunite, I hope Abeno won't push Ashiya away again. That's all. I wanted to share these thoughts with you. Please let me know your opinion on the matter. Thank you for reading! :)”
I think you’re right on point with the themes you’ve pointed out and I believe that’s what Sensei was going for too, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s terribly lonely for them to be separated from each other. ___(:3 At least we’re left with a (high) possibility of them getting back together (heh) and even moreso with the fanbook extra content too, so here’s to their continued adventures.
“I am not sure if you are familiar with this anime/manga/light novel series “No. 6” because the end of the Mononokean manga series appears similar to the end of the former in terms of the bond between the two male leads if you get what I mean.”
I know of it and it’s something I’ve always meant to get around to watching, but I have not seen it yet!
“Nooo, I can't believe it's over! 😭 But you know, ever since FNM's ending was announced, I've been looking for something to fill the void this precious story would inevitably leave in my heart, and then someone said "Watch Natsume Yuujinchou, the themes are similar and it's heartwarming". So I started it and, oh boy, I've been screaming at every episode because I'm not used to people openly showing their affection! 😂 So much hugging, hand-holding, head-patting... I'm melting!! (send help pls)”
“Hello Spring! We've reached the end of this wonderful journey, it seems. It's time for a new start. Thank you so much for everything you've done for this fandom, it wouldn't have been the same without you! Seriously, thank you, from the bottom of my heart! 😌 (PS: I forgot to mention, I opened this blog on my old old laptop, with its 1280x720 resolution, and the "ON YOUR OWN, BUT NOT ALONE" strip was right there covering Ashiya's and Abeno's faces, I had such a good laugh! I'm sorry I laughed!!)”
“This ending was really beautiful and yet sad. The promise made me hope but.. it's still so angst that maybe it will take years to hanae be able to see yokais again. I wonder if wazawa-sensei is okay, like, usually when a manga is ending they advertise previously, but the news was so suddenly that made me worry about sensei's health status. I also don't think that the publisher canceled the manga. So, I still don't know if this sudden ending was planned or not.”
Haha when I first made that tumblr theme, I kind of liked the effect that the strip had in covering Ashiya and Abeno’s faces somehow, but it always moves around depending on resolution lol.
In the afterword of the last volume and the fanbook, Sensei touched lightly on their various reasons for ending the manga (which I plan to cover eventually... when I have time...) and while I don’t think we’ll ever know fully, I got the impression that sensei personally seems in good health and even expressed that they would like to make another manga in the future, so as readers and fans we don’t need to worry too much.
“The manga ended well but we are left with unanswered questions : What is Abeno's past ? / Are golden eyes and hair special ? / What about Aoi's face ? / What really happened the day Aoi came back injured ? At this time she wasn't infected but Sakae died trying to save her (something is wrong with the plot) ?! / What about Fuzzy gender and his "human form" ?”
I will just say we got answers to some of those questions in the fanbook, and some we did not. :Y Please hold on for fanbook info!
Hey there. I’ve just read through the last chapter of the Mononokean. What a story. There are still a few questions that left me wondering: (1) What is the origin of the Mononokean itself?, (2) What is the origin of the Influence that flows within specific characters of the story?, (3) If Aoi was able to provide young Ashiya with a part of Sakae’s “Influence,” could it be done again?, & (4) If Ashiya could still see Fuzzy, what do you think this means for his potential abilities?
1. We were told in the first fanbook that the Mononokean was originally a well-loved tea ceremony room, and as we know in the Mononokean universe (also generally a concept in Japanese culture/religion, you can looked up the term “tsukumogami”), things that are used/loved sometimes end up gaining a sentience of their own, and if I remember right that’s how the Mononokean came to be too. (it’s been a while since I’ve reread the first fanbook so if I’m wrong please do correct me). As for any other specifics, we only know that Aoi and Abeno have been the first and second masters respectively, I’m pretty sure.
2. This was answered in the fanbook, which I’d like to summarize eventually! But Influence seems to be a natural power that develops in babies who have been in close contact with yokai before they were born, and golden hair and eyes are also a sign of that.
3. The partial Sakae Influence (lol wording) that Aoi gave to Ashiya as a baby was what Ashiya returned to Aoi to save them. I suppose since they’ve already done it before it’s technically possible, but that’d defeat the whole purpose of what they tried to do already haha.
4. I think it’s as Abeno theorizes, that Ashiya always did have a bit of ability to sense yokai on his own as well!
“I was looking for more FnM content and found out about your fanfictions on Ao3, so I read them all and oh my Lord! They were *so* good!! And I was very surprised and very glad to find out you ship Ashiya x Abeno, I'm especially happy because you ship them in that order, since I was so sure everybody would be shipping them in reverse order! Thank you so much for sharing your works!! (≧▽≦) ♡”
Thank you for your kind comments, I’m always so happy to hear someone loves my fic! I do love writing them even though I haven’t done it for a while and I have so many ideas and WIPs that I’ve still never gotten around to completely, but I swear I will do them someday... While I do think the reverse order is more popular in general, there’s a decent AshiItsu (the Japanese term for the ship haha) fandom thriving on Twitter!
Again thank you so much everyone! Look forward to fanbook info I’d like to get around to posting about soon!

Gensokyo Festival day 27: Emotions
It’s a five-part story about Tokiko today, and I have to say I like this version of Tokiko. The more I wrote about her, the more I grew to love this crazy youkai with a heart of gold, this warrior, this bibliophile, this great lover, this Tokiko with bells on. Love, fury, heartbreak, burning passion, overwhelming joy... That’s what I want my readers to feel, among many other things. That’s what I want to give you today.
~Tokiko Felt Five Emotions Last Tuesday~
~Chapter 1: Disgust~
Tokiko's day was ruined when she stepped out of bed and trod on a dead mouse.
"Aaaaaaugh! My FLOOR! My FOOT! This is hideous!" Tokiko screamed. She flopped back on her bed, half wishing she could just die and let the mouse be someone else's problem, but it was not to be.
~Chapter 2: Love~
After a thorough foot-bath and a hearty breakfast, Tokiko got ready for the day's carefree unemployment. Something had put her in the mood to polish her boots, so she did, enjoying the breeze in her little garden.
"Oh, are you polishing your boots?" said a voice. It was Ayumi Takao, the tsukumogami dressed all in green. "A woman who treats her boots with respect. You love to see it!"
Tokiko giggled. "And I love to see you... I- I mean, um, good morning! The weather's beautiful today!"
"If you're into that thing," said Ayumi, plonking herself down next to Tokiko. "I'm off to the lake for a swim. Are you busy today?"
"Oh, very! Lots to do..."
~Chapter 3: Boredom~
"I should've gone with her," Tokiko sighed, lying miserably on the floor. "Tokiko, you useless lesbian! That was SO OBVIOUSLY an invitation..."
Why had she said she had lots to do? She had NOTHING to do. With a heavy sigh, she reached for one of the books she'd read several times and read it again.
~Chapter 4: Anger~
When she delved into the pantry for lunch, Tokiko found Nazrin nibbling on her smoked fish. Furious, she grabbed Nazrin by the neck and hauled her out of there.
"You've absolutely taken the biscuit, you mouse! And the sausage! And my dried beans, even! Why, Nazrin?! WHY?!" Tokiko roared, shaking Nazrin like a maraca.
"I-I'm sorry! I was hungry!" wailed Nazrin. "You know what that's like! A mouse has to eat sometimes!"
Tokiko let out a scream of frustration. "If you'd just asked me, Nazrin... Just ASKED if you could join me for lunch! Why did you have to be so silly about it?!"
"I'm a mouse!" snapped Nazrin.
"Well, I've had enough mice for one day!" barked Tokiko, stuffing Nazrin back inside the pantry. "Be a dear and get me the miso paste."
~Chapter 5: Happiness~
At a shop in the Human Village, Tokiko and Nazrin ran into Ayumi.
"Oh, hi, Tokiko!" she said. "And is that Nazrin? What brings you here?"
"She dragged me along," said Nazrin weakly.
"I was out of miso paste," explained Tokiko. "Now, um... You see, Ayumi, I kind of wish I'd gone swimming with-"
"Miso paste?" Ayumi's face lit up. "You're making soup together?! I love miso soup!"
"Wha?" Tokiko couldn't believe her luck. Her mouth hung open for a touch longer than strictly necessary. "I... Great! Why don't you join us for lunch?"
"Could I? I mean..." A strange shyness came over Ayumi. "I wouldn't want to get between you and Nazrin."
"Oh, no, Nazrin's not my type at all! Too mousey!" said Tokiko quickly. "But we're good friends! Right, Nazrin?"
Nazrin shot her a withering look. "Oh, yes, we're inseparable."
"See?" Tokiko patted Nazrin on the back, almost knocking her down. "She loves me! In a friendly, sort of sisterly way! And soup tastes better the more hungry friends you have, so..."
Ayumi smiled. "Then I'd love to come!"
“YAY!” Tokiko jumped up and punched the air.

Arataki Itto, Scaramouche/Balladeer / child female reader.
Synopsis: His reaction to you calling him “onii-san”.
— ( In Japanese folklore, tsukumogami are tools that have acquired a kami or spirit, and are also considered a type of youkai. Here, the reader is a weapon tsukumogami that has manifested in the form of a human child, and has gained the power to fight on her own and to wield herself. )
Kazuha, Thoma & Gorou ver. / Xiao ver.

#ARATAKI ITTO
Itto actually didn’t hear (y/n) the first time she called him “onii-san”, as he was too preoccupied in combing his bangs back after obliterating a group of nobushi that set up camp too close to Hanamizaka. (Y/n) pouted beside him as he continued to ignore her in favour of fixing his appearance, and she then tugged on his coat to draw his attention. The half-oni hummed, lowering his gaze to meet her eyes.
“What’s wrong, my lil kachimushi?” he asked, picking her up by her armpits, “You hungry? So am I! Let’s get you eel sushi, your favourite~” Before she could say anything in response, Itto tucked her under his arm like a sack of potatoes and rushed off to the city.
After he bought eel sushi for his tsukumogami, the pair made their way back to Hanamizaka, where they found a nice spot to sit in under the large cherry blossom tree. He leaned back against the trunk with his arms folded behind his head while she dug into her food.
“Are you hungry, kitty? Here, have some eel,” (y/n) chimed, offering a cat the small pieces of sushi on her palm.
Itto smiled at (y/n) fondly as he watched her share some of her food with the stray cats and dogs around her. She’s such a sweet child, yet so deadly when wielding her uchigatana. He first met her in front of her former master’s grave on a rainy day; the poor girl looked so pitiable, hugging her sword as her little body trembled from the cold. Thanks to his oni blood, he could tell right away that she’s a masterless tsukumogami. His heart went out to her and he decided to take her under his wing, a decision that he never regretted.
Besides the gang becoming more lively with her around, she's a sword that brings the gift of luck to her master. Itto always emerged from his fights and bets victorious whenever she’s with him or simply nearby. Reaching out, Itto petted (y/n)’s head affectionately, making her look at him.
“What’s wrong, Itto-niisan?” she asked, blinking. His eyes widened when she called him big brother, and his jaw went slack in surprise. She misinterpreted his reaction as disapproval and started panicking. “I-I’m sorry, goshujin-sama! I was being disrespectful and deserve to be punished-” Her sentence was cut short when the half-oni suddenly pulled her into a tight hug.
“I promise you that I’m not mad. I’m actually really happy!” he exclaimed, breaking away from her with a beam, “Does that mean you’re finally comfortable talking to me? I was worried that you didn’t like being around me, since you address me so formally...” His grin faded as an uncharacteristically gentle expression softened his sharp features. “I want you to be happy with me, (y/n)-chan.”
(Y/n) flushed at his words and simply ducked her head to avoid his eyes.
“Can you say it again?” he implored.
Lifting her gaze, she timidly said, “Itto-niisan.”
“You’re so precious,” Itto told her, laughing afterwards. Pressing his forehead against hers, he then uttered, “I promise that I’ll never leave you alone, so you won’t have to sit under the cold rain again.”
A minuscule smile crawled over her lips before she moved to wrap her tiny arms around his torso. “I won’t let you die either, Itto-niisan. As long as you keep me by your side, victory will always be yours.”
#SCARAMOUCHE/BALLADEER
Scaramouche turned around to face (y/n) with a surprised look the moment he heard the unfamiliar name spill over her lips. He didn’t hear wrong, did he?
‘Big brother... Is she being serious?’ he thought, rolling his eyes.
“What are you doing still awake? You have to wake up early for your mission tomorrow,” he said, unfazed by the tears rolling down her cheeks. Sniffling, she rubbed her fists against her sticky face and took a step towards him.
“Onii-san, can I please stay you?” she asked. He answered her plea with oppressive silence, and she decided to take the risk by approaching him slowly. Surprisingly, the Harbinger didn’t tell her to keep her distance from him like he usually does. “P-please... I had a nightmare and I can’t sleep. I promise I’ll be good.”
He silently stared at her as he folded his arms over his chest. He was beginning to regret ever accepting Takayuki’s “gift” since he hadn’t expected the sword to take the form of a human child the moment he tried to behead a foolish Fatui agent with it. He wasn’t fond of the idea of taking care of others, but (y/n) wouldn’t stop following him around and kept calling him her master.
In the end, he decided to make good use of her by treating her like an actual weapon - so he wasn’t prepared to deal with her tears at all.
“Fine,” he finally said, “But if you become a nuisance, I won’t hesitate to return you to the Kujou Clan.”
(Y/n) nodded vigorously. “Yes! I won’t be a bother to you!”
“Hmph.” Spinning on his heels, he continued to walk and she soon fell in step beside him. “So what was your nightmare about?”
“It was about the fire I was left to burn in... I would have been able to serve you better if I was a naginata...” she whispered, looking down at her feet.
“Aren’t you a wakizashi though?” he asked, confusion lacing his tone.
She shook her head. “I was shortened into a wakizashi because I was severely damaged by the fire.”
“Huh, how tragic.” Not like he cares. When he glanced at the tsukumogami from the corner of his eye, he could see that she was about to cry again, most likely because the memory of the fire had hurt her pride as a former naginata. With a sharp sigh, he took his hat off and roughly dropped it on top of her head.
“Hide your tears with my hat and go back to your room,” he ordered - and when she didn’t budge, he quietly added, “Onii-san will be with you shortly, so stop crying.”
