The boy's pointed, furry ears pricked up at the sound of the buzzer door and his greying, striped tail began to flick back and forth in anticipation. He dusted the white powder off his whiskers and pressed the intercom.
"Come in, Mr. Secretary-General"
The hairless, balding man's face was flushed as he stumbled to the desk where his impossibly adorable anthropomorphic adversary lounged comfortably. "You can't do this to us! It's not fair, we need more time to make the next payment. There were unforseen-"
The Viscount of Neko Holdings Unlimited private enforcement militia purred softly at his captive audience "I explained this to you, Mr. Secretary-General, this is out my paws. The Neko family appreciates your timely repayment right meow..."
"But the hunger riots..."
"Are an issue we gave you the means to deal with. Why didn't you deploy the cat-scratch fever in the most rebellious regions before they burned the milk distillation equipment? Are we to blame that your staff tried a diplomatic solution against our advice, to negotiate on our behalf for terms that were iwwelevant to us? But no, you know your own people."
As the catboy caught himself slipping into a shameful accent, the soft, sand paper tongue flicked out the last word like a hairball it had gotten rid of. To regain his composure, he elected to change the subject to a more lighthearted and familiar one: "Say, this used to be your office, right?"
The man nodded. The catboy batted at the globe perched on the edge of his desk. and it fell to the ground with an expensive shatter. The man winced.
"Oops. Priceless, right? Jade and sapphire. Well, maybe that could have lowered your debt a bit, if you hadn't already agreed to cede this city and everything in it to us in exchange for accepting your surrender. Mew York City? Hey, don't cry baby. I have a question for you. Why's this broken ball all colored wrong, anyway. The green part's all blue-colored, and the brown part's all green. Are people colorblind or something? Or just stupid?"
The man's face turned white. "It used to be like that! Before you showed up it was that color. There are pictures!"
The Viscount licked his paw, catching the tip of his claw "Now you're trying to lie to me. I don't like that. We've been watching you for a long time, you know. I know all about the little missile you launched at your own little... moon? Luna? Did I hear rightly that you used to call it a ball of cheese? Well at least you named one thing correctly. That wasn't green cheese either, though. I tasted a bit of it. Sorry for blowing it up by the way. That was my personal call y'know, we just assumed you had military fortifications there. But you never even settled it, did you? Truly a slave race, fit only to be ruled over."
The man's face turned from fear to impotence as he realized that he was going to be excluded from the remainder of this conversation, but that he would not be free to leave; the Viscount liked nothing better than the sound of his own voice. With a sudden twitch, sensing his prey's mind wandering, the catboy sunk a claw in the desk and dragged it across the metal nameplate to bring the secretary-general back to attention.
"Anyway, I distinctly remember when I made that call, that this planet was already those colors. Wasn't it? You did this to yourselves. If we hadn't come along you'd all be long dead by now, cooked, just like those fish you were too dumb to leave raw. You didn't deserve those. We still have some, y'know. Moved them offworld before we boiled the ocean to kill the dolphins and the cuttlefish, the only higher intelligences on this blasted planet. Salmon has become quite a delicacy on Neko Prime once we got the breeding cycles right. Tuna too. Unlike the breeding cycles of those human-neko hybrids. That project failed, the process is apparently very painful for the humans, and the only viable offspring are just kinda stupid catboys."
The man failed to fight off the urge to interject "You said those experiments were false rumors. Invented by the Humane Society! We agreed to the terms of the treaty! no human trials!"
"Yeah, I did, pet. We lied to you. Not that it matters anymore. You belong to us now, and we don't need your cooperation anymore. Your whole planet makes, well made the pressure control valve for milk distillation columns. It's admittedly a great environment for it, right in the habitable zone for lactic acid synthesis. Your one purpose as an ecosystem. Catlord knows it's the only thing you were ever good at. but since you can't pay your debts, looks like we'll need to have someone else do it, it's just too much of a liability. There's even been talk of automation! But don't think we can just leave you alone. we can't let an atomic capable race just stick around, even one as useless as you. Loose ends and all."
The Secretary-General's face went blank as he realized the trajectory of the conversation was even more hopeless that he had first supposed.
The catboy's unblinking eyes turned soft. "I was thinking of taking you with me. Maybe play with you a little bit before you die. What do you say, old friend? Want to be the last human alive? Watch your stupid little planet blow to bits like that little model there? Or do you want to go out with the rest of them, just spoiled milk refinery equipment?"

How I Found Livingstone
by Henry Morton Stanley
This is not a book I would ordinarily have been interested in. I stumbled across it at the local library online and it piqued my interest, so I checked it out. However, after 30 pages, I realized that it suffered from 'woke' editing, though the description gave no indication that it had been edited or abridged, and at over 500 pages, I hardly thought so.
Since I'd become interested in Stanley's journal, I searched for an UNedited Kindle edition at Amazon.com, found one for a mere 99 cents, and returned the 'woke' version to the library. The unedited volume contained many pages of Stanley's descriptions and opinions of various peoples and cultures in and around the Middle East, especially those in Zanzibar, where he spent a great deal of time preparing for his journey. I appreciated being able to read the journal as originally penned.
Why was Stanley engaged in this expedition? He was a newspaper journalist who was contacted by the owner of the New York Tribune, who made one demand: FIND LIVINGSTONE!
The explorer had not been heard from for a number of years and was generally assumed to be dead. If he discovered that Livingstone were indeed dead, Stanley was ordered to bring back as many proofs of his death as could be obtained. If he were to find the man alive, he was to provide whatever supplies he needed. He was given an unlimited expense account, asked to stop by the grand opening of the Suez Canal (That puts it in some perspective, doesn't it?!), make a number of other stops along the way, and then prepare an expedition to travel to Central Africa in search of Livingstone.
It is imperative that the reader remember that Stanley set out with his caravan in 1870, when Africa was largely unsettled and consisted of many small tribes ruled by 'sultans' and warlords, who demanded 'tribute' from anyone passing through their village, and that, for the most part, the journey had to be made on foot.
The journal includes Stanley's account of the time he spent with Dr. Livingstone, as well as Livingstone's account of his search for the source of the Nile. I found the journal quite fascinating! It is well worth your time.

Excerpt from Chapter XI:
In the meantime, the head of the Expedition had halted, and the kirangozi was out of the ranks, holding his flag aloft, and Selim said to me, “I see the Doctor, sir. Oh, what an old man! He has got a white beard.” And I – what would I not have given for a bit of friendly wilderness, where, unseen, I might vent my joy in some mad freak, such as idiotically biting my hand; turning a somersault, or slashing at trees in order to allay those exciting feelings that were well-nigh uncontrollable. My heart beats fast, but I must not let my face betray my emotions, lest it shall detract from the dignity of a white man appearing under such extraordinary circumstances.
So I did that which I thought was most dignified. I pushed back the crowds, and, passing from the rear, walked down a living avenue of people, until I came in front of the semicircle of Arabs, before which stood the “white man with the grey beard.”

You stared at the full-length mirror leaning against your boyfriend’s bedroom wall, still unable to recognise the girl reflected back.
The girl (who was you, duh) in a sexy pikachu costume.
Nishinoya had practically begged for you to come to a party one of his old high school friend’s was hosting and being a bored college student, you had been eager to agree, much to Yuu’s relief. Until he revealed his costume plans, which immediately had you rejecting the offer. You’d turned back to the next level of Candy Crush on your phone, knowing that your dignity was far more important than the party. But Yuu wasn’t going to give up so easily, pushing against your arm so that you had to pause the game, giving him the look that said “You have 10 seconds to try to change my mind.”
“Baby, please, you’re gonna look so sexy!” Yuu begged, pulling out his phone which he turned to you, showing you the costume once more, as if seeing it again would magically change your mind.
“Noya, it’s so tacky!” you groaned, rolling your eyes as you sank back into the comfy couch,” Come on, can’t I just throw on some cat ears and do eyeliner whiskers?”
“The idea of you in cat ears is pretty hot, but I already bought my costume,” Noya grinned, your face crumbling in defeat as you realised he’d won this battle when he showed you the Ash Ketchum costume he’d purchased. You could have been a bitch and just said no, but what if some other girl came along and wanted to be “captured” by your man? Plus, the thought of Yuu being upset was heartbreaking and you knew that this meant a lot to him.
Not to mention you could totally pull this on him if you wanted to pick the next movie or restaurant.
“If I do this, I want unlimited access to the baby albums,” you countered, meeting his eyes with a determined gaze, unwilling to let him get away with a total victory. Given how his grandfather had seemed to record every moment (yes, even the embarrassing ones) of Yuu’s childhood, those books were like precious gold, which your boyfriend protected with a determination you rarely saw. Noya seemed to pause, weighing up his options before sighing, making you grin.
“Deal, but you only get to take 5 pictures home,” Noya countered, holding out his hand.
Shaking it, you had a deal.
All it took was giving up your dignity.

“TANAKA!”
“NOYA!”
You rolled your eyes with a smile as your boyfriend rushed off to hug his friend, a flurry of chatter filling the room at the arrival of the old Guardian of Karasuno. The drive to Tanaka and Kiyoko’s house had been a quiet one, with you worried about tagging along. It had been ages since you’d seen the team and even at that, you were never as close to them as Noya was. Yuu had seemed to understand, letting the radio fill the silence. But now, as you watched your boyfriend fit in like a perfect piece of puzzle, you felt even more awkward and out of place. You’d been ready to find the kitchen - that was, until the eyes landed on you.
“Whoa! Y/N, you are looking good!” Tanaka yelled, his eyes drinking you in - only for him to yelp in pain as he received a less than friendly jab to the stomach from your boyfriend, who’d dropped the smile.
“Eyes off of her, bro, she’s mine!” Noya exclaimed, pouting at his best friend before realising that he was perhaps being a touch too aggressive; choosing to lighten up, he continued,” Plus, Kiyoko would kill ya if she knew you were drooling over my girl!”
“Whoa, no need for the threats, I was just being friendly,” Tanaka laughed, raising his hands up in surrender, though his eyes flicked back over to you as he continued,” but seriously, nice costume!”
“Thanks,” you smiled, your nerves easing as you turned to accept a drink from your old senpai, Daichi who had been eager to diffuse the situation (though he was more than grateful when it solved itself, given how he had to deal with such things for a living).

The rest of the evening seemed to fly by with plenty of dangerously mixed liquor-based concoctions and music. It had been a while since you’d seen the team but much to your surprise and relief, you fit back in with ease. Chatting away with the boys made you feel like you’d gone back in time, as though nothing had ever changed.
Perhaps things were going too well for your boyfriend’s liking as he gazed at you leaning against Suga’s side, laughing at something he’d said. It was a cute laugh too and he saw his Senpai’s eyes widen and sparkle at the sight. It was probably involuntarily - Suga was a good guy and would never try something on you - but you just had that effect on people and right now, Noya regretted asking you to wear such a revealing costume. It was when you leaned in to whisper something into the older man’s ear that made Yuu snap, his mouth opening before he could think.
“Babe, gotta show ya something!”
Your boyfriend’s request made you pull back from Suga, glancing over to make sure it was really Yuu. Indeed it was him and his bright smile and gestures to follow him were impossible to ignore.
“Coming!” you replied lightly, quickly turning to apologise to Suga before taking your leave to follow Noya down a dark hall,” What is it you wanted me to see-”
You were cut off as he caged you against the wall, the family photos rattling from the slam next to you, but you barely noticed. Quickly standing on his tippy toes to press his lips against yours, Noya felt the slow warming sense of reassurance wash over him. He’d just needed a small taste, just to remind himself that he was the only one who’d get to experience it. It wasn’t an unpleasant surprise at all but you quickly pushed him off you, unsure of what was happening.
“Noya, is everything okay?” you whispered, the thumping of the bass and the drunken laughter suddenly playing as background noise to the sexually charged atmosphere.
“No, it’s not,” he grumbled after a stunned moment, moving closer once more. You could feel his warm breath against your neck and then the shell of your ear as he continued,” but then again, watching my pretty girl flirt with my old senpai isn’t exactly a turn-on for me.”

“I know, but baby, look at you.” With that, Noya dragged you into the room closest which happened to be a bathroom. But Noya didn’t care at that moment, he had more important things to worry about - like making sure you understood just how dangerous you were.
“Look at yourself, Y/N,” he whispered, his eyes focused on the mirror, waiting to see your eyes meet him in the reflection.
You knew better than to argue with Noya when he was in this sort of mood and you obeyed without question, raising your head to meet eyes with the girl in the mirror once more. You’d been expecting to feel embarrassed like earlier at his apartment, when you’d been so unsure of wearing the outfit in public. But you couldn’t have been more wrong.
You must have accidentally stretched out at some point because your zipper was slightly undone, revealing more cleavage than you were normally comfortable with. The hood’s adorable expression couldn’t rival your cute lips and doe-like eyes which seemed to sparkle under the bathroom lights. And god, the bottom of the suit clung to your hips and presumably your behind like its life depended on it. In short, you now understood just what was driving your boyfriend so wild.
“Oh,” you mumbled, your lips falling apart in a soft oh shape.
