it’s the way everyone saw oliver’s red flags but felix ignored what everyone said and decided to still be oliver’s friend. like ok yeah i get how felix is used to people being subservient to him and if they’re not then he disposes of them, but what felix felt for oliver was different. I KNOW A PART OF HIM LOVED OLIVER TOO. he enjoyed caring for oliver. he enjoyed his company. he left the fucking bathroom door open so oliver could see him jerking off like bro you don’t just do that with a friend that you don’t have romantic or sexual feelings for. it’s the fact that even after finding out the truth about oliver’s parents—he still let him stay so he could celebrate his birthday. IM SORRY BUT IF I FOUND OUT MY FRIEND WHO HAS BEEN LIVING WITH ME FOR WEEKS LIED ABOUT THEIR ENTIRE UPBRINGING THEY’RE GETTING LEFT RIGHT AT THEIR PARENTS HOUSE. it’s the fact that felix still cared!! he said oliver makes his blood run cold and that’s because finding out the person you love and care for isn’t who they say they are instills a type of fear, sadness, and anger in you that you’ve never felt before!! not to fucking mention that there’s a reference of being cold-blooded made by venetia to oliver. she refers to the entire catton family as being “cold-blooded”. if felix was cold-blooded, meaning he’s filled with cruelty and unsympathetic , then for him to say oliver makes his blood run cold means he was different with oliver. he notices the change oliver had on him!! he loved and cared for him. idc felix and oliver were in love and oliver’s obsession/manipulativeness poisoned (literally and figuratively) felix which is why their relationship had no chance of being anything except a tragedy.

OKAY TWF4 spoilers and Felix Kranken as a character (really more of just him)
(tw for suicide ideations)
how do I say this man I just. I just find felix kranken so fucking interesting?
like obviously we knew of him as this skeevy, alcoholic businessman who killed his best friend's kids (though unintentionally), hid his crimes, silenced anyone who came close to discovering the truth, and was now likely out to get his niece sophie as well. clearly we were meant to view him as someone irredeemable and a villain right?
but then came twf4 and we get so many more layers to his character than we initially thought
we knew from "Guilty" that he regretted killing the kids, yet still worried more about the restaurant opening, making him seem a bit more unsympathetic to his supposed niece and nephew. but with twf4, that wasn't entirely the case.
we were given a man so distraught at the idea that he'd gotten his best friend's children killed (kids who he was close enough to consider family as well) that he'd thought about killing himself more than once after burying them. in the end, he didn't, and even kept a memento of the incident.
we thought that he killed jack and everyone else just to keep them from finding out, but instead he "fessed up" to the family. except he didn't actually, and lied about what really happened to the children.
we knew him for being an alcoholic thanks to linda and his own confession tapes, but we found out now that he actively lied about his alcoholism to his own friends, with the only ones who actually do know about it being his ex-wife and seemingly the cyberfun tech employees (also worth noting that it seemed like jack wasn't involved with handling this department, hence why he didn't find out about it). this makes the phone call of jack asking felix to drive the kids to school and back even WORSE. because jack doesn't know about the alcoholism, he didn't know that he was giving a man with a drinking problem a handle on his kids' safety. felix clearly knew of his own addiction and yet still took the kids anyway, despite hesitating to do so.
several different occasions we've been given of felix where he plans to do one thing, but turns around to do another. felix is aware of when he's doing something wrong and very much wants to admit to them, but he chickens out and deflects last minute. he's afraid of the repercussions, of losing respect from people he cares about, or at least people who he didn't want seeing him be a "failure". even when he'd come close when admitting to the waltens, he chickened out and lied to them on what really happened to the children.
he was too cowardly to admit to his addiction, too cowardly say no to his best friend, too cowardly to end his own life after his crime, too cowardly to throw away incriminating evidence (and even hid it from the family) and too cowardly to actually confess his killing of children. he's a real coward, through and through. because of that, his cowardice brought about the worst consequences, what with a malicious entity seemingly latching onto him and killing those close to him one by one with him none the wiser. and now that entity had set their sights on sophie, who it seems he personally took in and cared for.
it's very interesting of martin to write such a complex character who we're clearly not meant to root for but understood how he felt the way he did. it makes me wonder what martin actually plans for felix now, with sophie being the target. will he finally, finally start his path to redemption and stop being a coward to protect her? i suppose we'll find out in the future. either way, i'm looking forward to it.

I have by no means read enough of her work to be an expert (just TGE, Witness, Angel of the Crows, and Doctrine of Problematic Faves Labyrinths), but I’m starting to pick up on a recurring theme in Monette/Addison’s work of “however damaged you are, your trauma has not made you unlovable.”
Maia: Your self-esteem may be in the tank after years of isolation and abuse, but people will still die for you, and not just because it’s their job.
Thara Celehar: You might be traumatized, depressed, tactless, and underappreciated by your own professional superiors, but lots of people still like you (including hot opera directors and the Emperor of the Elflands).
Doyle: You might not be at your best right now, your baggage might be weird and offputting and possibly socially devastating if unsympathetic people get ahold of it, but there’s someone out there who likes and accepts all of you, including the werewolf parts.
Felix: Someone who’s seen you at your worst could still care enough to stick with you until you're in a headspace to treat them better

"You can clearly tell which house leader the writers were most comfortable with criticizing, however." Oh definitely. It's easier to explain re: Ferdinand being background noise cuz the devs obviously can't beat to have someone make legit criticism against Waifu Edelgard (rolls eyes). But why do you think they're more on board with criticizing Claude and Dimitri (thru Lorenz and Felix)? Because the writers care less about them looking "perfect" and likable as opposed to the red Emperor Waifu?
(continuation) As you said, Lorenz gets in a lot of criticism of Claude but it never goes anywhere. Lorenz never gets to learn about HOW Claude had this connection to Almyra, b/c Claude never tells anyone his secrets. Meanwhile, Dimitri becomes the most open Lord, telling everyone eventually that Edelgard is his stepsister. So in a way, while the devs are fine with Lorenz criticizing Claude, less comes out of it then with Felix criticizing Dimitri (in both AM/AG). It's strange at times, tbh.
It's pretty much the waifu thing, along with a general hesitance to portray major female characters too negatively which tracks for almost all of FE as a franchise. Rhea too is subject to it to an extent, and I noted when talking about Triangle Strategy that that game has male characters occupying approximately the same roles as Edelgard and Rhea yet has no trouble whatsoever depicting them both as almost completely unsympathetic villains.

Weird fandom takes I really don’t get
*WARNING*: May contain sensitive topics and to let you know that these are my personal opinions on the topics.
“If Sonic we’re to die, Amy would commit su*c*de just to be with him”
First off, I’m pretty sure that would’ve been a pretty selfish move on Amy's part since she’s one of the most selfless character in the franchise. IF Sonic were to die, Amy would’ve live her life to the fullest because she knew that’s what Sonic would’ve wanted her and their friends to do. Plus she’s 12 pls stop vilifying it.
P.S. I’m never a fan of the take where if Character A were to die, Character B would kill/sacrifice themselves just to be with them since I find it to be selfish in a narrative sense but also throwing away any potential either character would have.
“Rhea is a tyrannical and controlling bitch”
Huh what? Like since when? I mean ok maybe she could’ve worded some things better but she is not controlling in any sense. She took in Shamir, an atheist and never once does she forced her ideology onto the aloof archer at all. She took in Cyril, an orphan and gave him a purpose there. Cyril's support with Seteth has the latter implying that if the former were to have his own motivations, she would happily supported him in his decisions.
And this may go a little off topic, but she genuinely worried about Flayn's disapperance in the academic phase, expressed grievance when Jeralt died, gave Byleth a task of helping the students feel at ease, organising events, so on and so forth. All in all, Rhea is just one of the most misrepresented character in the FE fandom.
“Leonie is plain unsympathetic because her Support with Byleth and Marianne said so”
Well this take appeared on TVTropes but… how is she unsympathetic when her A and B Support for Byleth and Marianne respectively has her apologizing to the latter two for her actions. Really, I think that certain factions of the fandom judge Leonie too harshly and while I understand that she might be everyone's favourite character, but twisting her whole entire character and taking everything out of context all because of one notorious Support is just plain wrong.
Don’t get me wrong. The way her B support with Byleth happened right after Jeralt died did make her a little unsympathetic but I’m gonna say it’s the timing of when the Support happen. Speaking of Supports, I’m pretty sure she has plenty of good ones there such as with Lorenz and Felix for example.
“Claude hates Rhea”
Well yes initially. He was distrustful of Rhea at first in VW along with calling her out once you defeat Edelgard but his Support with Cyril has him changing his viewpoint of Rhea and as such it happens within VW as well. Also, it fits in with Claude's nature as being a distrusting individual (what with his upbringing and whatnot) but overtime with character development has him trusting people but not without caution of course.
“Professor Turo is into N*T and is therefore a cryptobro”
Don’t know where people get the idea that he is into crypto stuff but there’s hardly any info on his and Professor Sada's personality just yet. Again, while I accept any fan interpretation since everyone is allowed to take creative liberties, I think it’s best to not judge a book by its cover, especially since the info on Scarlet and Violet is just recent and we may or may not have to wait for a few weeks/month to see what kind of purpose Professor Sada/Turo may serve.
The same goes for either version-exclusive Professor being a villainous team while the other is good since I don’t want to see another Disney Villian Twist Syndrome™️ again. (Also them being villains with no foreshadowing would make it like an asspull or in my own words, last minute change)

Review: Skavenslayer (Gotrek and Felix book 2) by William King
Tumblr media
Gotrek and Felix are back! (Well, maybe mostly Felix).
In the second book of the Gotrek and Felix saga (I'm not actually sure how many books there are), the dwarf-and-man duo find themselves in the bustling city of Nuln. Once again penniless and unable to find work, they take on a job as guards in Nuln's extensive sewer system, wandering the reeking tunnels in search of trouble. But they quickly find that far worse things than bandits lurk below the city, and it might take the last creature they would expect to thwart an invasion that only they seem to realize is coming.
Skavenslayer is a bit of a midway point between the very episodic structure of Trollslayer (where each chapter was more-or-less its own story) and a standard novel format. Each chapter follows its own story arc, but every chapter takes place in the same location, uses many of the same characters, and they all build on each other in a much clearer way than in Trollslayer. While I initially thought that I'd enjoy a longer narrative, I think in the end the short story format worked better for King than this one did. We'll see if he finds his feet in the next book.
The best part about this story was the skaven, by far. Before reading this book, I'd never quite gotten what the appeal of them was, but I 100% understand now. The ratmen are all utterly insane and so self-absorbed that it's hilarious and disturbing in equal measure. The description of the plague priests will haunt me, I'm certain. Their narrative sections are full of zany-yet-awful shenanigans with such unsympathetic protagonists that you won't feel bad laughing when it inevitably blows up in their face.
Sadly, the sections of the book that actually focus on our heroes don't quite live up to the rest. Gotrek barely has anything to do in this story, rarely even getting dialogue outside of battles. Felix, meanwhile, gets a bit more development as his past comes back to haunt him, but he alone is not strong enough to carry the story. Moreover, the good guys' storylines wind up feeling very repetitive, with problems being solved in very similar ways each time. I think this was present in the last book as well, but there, much of the fun was in the mystery of what was going on. Here, we know from reading the skaven chapters what's going on, so we just have to wait while it plays out.
Overall, Skavenslayer was a decently entertaining read and I'll pick up the next one, but if the series doesn't improve, I'm not sticking around for book 4.
Warnings: As alluded to above, there’s some graphic descriptions of vomit, illness, and poop. If you have an especially weak stomach, might want to sit this one out Rating: 3/5

What do you think Oliver's motive was? Did he just want the big house all along or did he want Felix and changed his plan when he realised that was fucked?
I think Oliver is a Lana Del Rey Sofia Coppola Gone Girl Virgin Suicides Girl Interrupted Girlblogger in the making
I honestly kind of think the whole thing is supposed to be "this is the elites worst nightmare, isn't it ridiculous, they're scared they'll be generous, invite the poor into their home only for the poor to murder them and dance round their house naked" so I don't really think he has a motive as such?
I think it implies that he already knew that Felix basically picks a working class charity case pet each summer and that he put himself in his life to be that on purpose? I think the films meant to be unsympathetic to Oliver so I don't think he's in live with Felix? I think we're supposed to see him as cold and calculated? Like if he only loved Felix he wouldn't have gone to shag the sister so quickly you know? He goes for her before he knows it's fucked with Felix?

Week 9 Response
Readings/materials this week were a bit tough. As a person who is gay, the topics of both the Felix Gonzalez-Torres pieces and the Highberg text were close-to-home and hard to engage with. This isn't a criticism of them or the choice to include them; it just took more mental headspace than "normal" to fully process them, especially with the extra-heavy nature of our discussions in class.
An obvious thing that is going to happen in the early 2020s is that whenever you talk about widespread illnesses taking the lives of many is the giant ongoing pandemic that has dominated our collective lives for almost 3 years. Obviously there are so many differences between how we talk/talked about HIV and Aids, and COVID, but there are so many similarities in terms of the widespread nature of callousness and misinformation.
This week's readings seemed to come back to this question of paying respects to, or commemorating individuals who have been lost within an unsympathetic culture that is hostile to those lost and those left behind, which is something that I return to often, given the complexities of navigating a dangerous world that we are collectively pretending is less dangerous than it is.
Something that I really liked about the Gonzalez-Torres works is the alternate nature of commemorative/memorializing art that is presented. When we think of that type of art, we think of sculptures with plaques, dramatic oil paintings. We are only now beginning to really push back at these ideas about what mediums constitute "fine art" but in the case of memorializing art, we are still quite married to those ideas, which makes his use of materials feel particularly distinctive.

WIP: trouble in paradise (sylvain gautier/f!reader/felix fraldarius)
word count: lmao i have no idea probably under 1000 | rating: t for now | see below for warnings and contents
description: Sylvain crashes at Felix’s house to escape some girl trouble and meets his best friend’s very new (and very cute) fiancée.
Tumblr media
As usual, Sylvain arrived in the middle of the night. He didn’t visit frequently enough to merit his own key, but he did know where the spare was hidden. Hanging his coat on the hook by the door, he made a beeline for the couch and was asleep the moment his head hit his makeshift pillow.
Felix didn’t usually wake Sylvain, instead electing to ignore him as he got ready for work. He was, as a rule, a man of few words, and Sylvain liked that about him, mostly because it meant he could talk as much as he pleased. So when he awoke to Felix’s voice, muffled by the wall separating the kitchen and living room, he was both surprised and a little curious. Who could possibly be over so early?
“—he should be up and out by the end of the day,” Felix was saying, sitting at the table with a mug of untouched coffee in front of him.
“Okay,” said another voice, its owner obscured by the doorframe. “I’ll let him sleep. I’ve got work to catch up on anyway.”
“Good morning,” Sylvain stepped into the kitchen, a bright smile on his face.
Felix didn’t bother looking up. “Finished eavesdropping?”
“Me?” Sylvain tried to sound indignant. “I’d never!”
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Apparently Felix wasn’t in the mood for games. “I suppose I’d better introduce you to my fiancée.”
Fiancée? Trying not to look too eager, Sylvain turned his gaze towards the other side of the kitchen. He’d heard something about Felix having a girlfriend. Ingrid had mentioned it over text a few months back, but he hadn’t realized things were so serious.
Oh. Oh. She was cute too! How unfair.
“It’s nice to finally meet you,” you said. “Felix talks about you a lot.”
“I do not!” Felix snapped, his cheeks blazing red.
Sylvain couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sorry it took so long for me to stop by. If I’d known there was such a lovely lady here I’d have been over much sooner.”
“Sylvain,” Felix shot him a warning look.
“Sorry, sorry,” Sitting down on the other side of the table, Sylvain leaned back in his chair, folding his hands behind his head. “I guess I couldn’t help myself.”
“Can I get you anything?” you asked, almost painfully polite. “I was going to make some tea in a bit.”
“That would be great, thanks. It was a long night.”
“What did you do this time?” Felix asked, unsympathetic as usual.
“Girl trouble. It’s pretty bad,” He tried to keep his tone light, eyes fixed on the counter where you’d busied yourself filling the kettle. If Felix saw him checking you out, he didn’t comment on it.
“Isn’t it always?”
Sylvain smiled ruefully. “Usually I just have to worry about the girl, but this time I managed to piss off her husband too.”
“See?” Felix looked up at you, shaking his head. “He’s a good for nothing philanderer, just like I told you.”
“Hey, that’s a little harsh,” said Sylvain, looking wounded.
“No, it’s really not.”
Turning around, you leaned against the counter and gave him a once over. “Philanderer maybe, but not good for nothing.”
“Oh?” Sylvain asked, raising one eyebrow. “And what am I good for?”
“Making me late for work,” said Felix, standing up to stretch. His coffee was still untouched, its wisps of steam fading as it cooled. “Sylvain. Come with me for a moment.”
Uh oh. Maybe he had noticed Sylvain checking you out after all. Before he could protest Felix had him by the sleeve, dragging him out into the tiny hallway of the apartment.
“You. Look at me,” Grabbing Sylvain by the chin, Felix forced him to meet his gaze. “Do not do anything to make my girlfriend uncomfortable.”
“Oh come on! Do you really think I’d—“
“Yes, I do.”
Sylvain opened his mouth to protest but Felix didn’t give him time to speak.
“I don’t care what you say or do. Just don’t pressure her into anything, got it?”
Pulling back, Sylvain put up his hands in defense. “Okay! I got it. I won’t try anything.”
His friend exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re incapable of listening, aren’t you? Whatever. I need to get to work.”
On cue you appeared in the doorway, holding out a paper bag with Felix’s name written on it. There was a heart over the i, which Sylvain found both revolting and adorable. Felix made sure to cover his name when he took the bag, his cheeks going pink.
“Thanks,” he mumbled, turning to leave. “See you later.”
“Have a good day!” you called after him.

After your afternoon class with Jisung, he quickly noted that you were absent for the rest of the day.
Sure, you didn’t have any other classes, but normally you would be hunkered down in the library with your nose stuffed in some sort of book, or wandering around campus with Felix at your heels. You were either cramming due to your procrastination or roaming around procrastinating. Jisung also knew you weren’t a fan of staying in your small dorm room since your roommate loved flaunting the fact that she had a boyfriend and how she wasn’t shy about anyone witnessing their ‘acts of love’.
So he really had no idea where you were, and it bugged him a little more than he would like to admit.
But outwardly, he didn’t want to show just how worried he was. You were his best friend’s sister, it wasn’t his job to make a fuss about something so trivial. It would be weird if he went looking for you… but if Minho just so happened to get word of his little sister’s sudden disappearance, Jisung would have to help his dear friend search for you.
It was only common courtesy.
“Minho, I think Y/n was kidnapped.”
“You WHAT?!”
Okay, starting the phone call with that probably wasn’t the best choice, but what other choice did he have. Jisung was an impatient guy.
“Yeah, I don’t know what happened.” He replied casually, already able to hear the panic on Minho’s end of the call. “She was here and then she wasn’t.”
Not only was he impatient, he was a(n idiot) songwriter; his words articulate and poetic.
Minho was silent for a second before cutting back for the call.
“I texted Changbin and he said she just ran off.”
Jisung frowned. “Do they know where she went?”
“Apparently to beat some sense into me.”
The two friends knew then where you were and a rush of panic filled their chests all at the same time.
“Fuck—”
“—Chan.”
Jisung nearly dropped his phone in the process of hanging up, immediately taking off towards the familiar apartment.
His worst nightmare was coming true—Chan was an unknown in Jisung’s mind. He was handsome, charismatic, and an older guy, so it was realistic to imagine you falling head-over-heels if you were to ever meet him. Unfortunately, it seemed like fate wasn’t in his favor and he was in deep shit if you were really at the apartment alone with Chan.
Alone with Chan.
He shivered at the thought.
The only brightside to the ordeal was that Minho was also aware of the dangerous situation. Out of everyone, he would be the only one to prevent any feelings from sprouting between you. Jisung counted on Minho every time and he never once failed to preform.
Dear god, he hoped he didn’t decide to stop now.
Arriving at the complex, he almost rammed full speed into Minho, who was also going as fast as his legs could take him. They only shared one glance before trampling over their feet to get up the stairs, no doubt bothering the neighbors along their way.
Minho was the one to swing the door open, his head on a swivel as he walked in. He was ready to break up any inappropriate business with as much force necessary—he didn’t care if Chan’s bicep was twice the size of his head, he had leg power on his side. And if he saw your tongue anywhere near Chan’s, Minho was going to be swinging.
“Chan?”
“Y/n?”
Thud.
There was a crash behind the closed door of the office, and both heads perked up at the sound.
Minho hurried forward, arm outstretched to grab the door, “No. No no no—”
Jisung never wanted in his life to see you involved with someone else. With your pretty eyes hooded and shining with desire, and your chest heaving heavily against the tight fabric of your blouse. It had been difficult enough to watch you fill out and grow into an attractive woman, he didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that you were old enough to meet other guys and moan their names.
He certainly didn’t want to hear you moan Chan’s name—of all people, why Chan?
“Shit, Chan—”
Jisung felt his face heat up as Minho pushed the door open, ready to pull his friend away to avoid the scene on the other side.
“—get your head away from my ass! The power strip isn’t even near there you prick!”
“Hey,” Chan defended with a laugh. “In my defense, all you said was it was over here somewhere. How do I know that somewhere isn’t next to your ass?”
The position that the two of you were in was compromising—though not in the way that Jisung had originally expected. It caused the two newcomers to freeze, their brains struggling to really understand what was happening.
The two of you were surrounded by thousands of cables and wires, black foam scattered across the floor as well. You were on your hands and knees, the only visible part of you was your bottom half with your head tucked underneath Chan’s mixing table doing who knows what. As for Chan, he was crawling around same as you, on his hands and knees with an extension cord wrapped around his shoulders.
“Uhm…” Minho gaped, eyes unable to focus on one part of the scene.
Jisung had no trouble at all, his eyes locked solidly on your raised ass.
You turned your head to look over your shoulder, eyes locking with Jisung’s and immediately widening. You couldn’t be in a worse situation—fucking hell.
In your haste to get out from under the table, you slammed the top of your head against one of the sturdy table legs and winced as Chan cracked up from your side.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in class—Jesus, ow…” You asked, your hand moving up to rub the forming bump.
“What’s going on?” Minho asked, his eyebrows brushing his bangs.
“Y/n wanted some help with her stats class and I needed someone to help me upturn this room and make it into a recording room.” Chan snorted at your little dramatic groans, completely unfazed by the growing frustration on Minho’s face.
But before Minho could say anything to Chan’s statement, Jisung stepped in.
His lips twisted sourly, “I thought Seungmin was going to help you with your stats stuff?”
You shook your head with a huff. “I will not subject myself to that kind of torture and I refuse to let anyone convince me otherwise.”
“Well you could’ve asked me.”
Defeated and jealous; Jisung could no longer hide it.
The two older boys could see it clearly in the way he looked at you with big sad eyes, though neither of them said anything. Chan’s brows furrowed in thought, it looked like you had someone else infatuated with you.
You laughed. “Uh-huh, because you’re the resident genius here. Jisung, you dropped two of your classes last semester because both professors were minutes away from giving you an administrative failure.”
“Yeah, yeah. Jisung’s head is full of rocks—” Minho dismissed, unsympathetic towards the scandalized boy next to him. “Why the hell are you turning my storage room into a junkyard?”
Chan finally stood, pulling the cord from his neck and throwing it to the side in favor of helping you up.
“It was already a junkyard, bundle-boy.” You said, voice clipped and annoyed. Who wouldn’t be after smashing their head against a solid piece of metal? “We were renovating.”
“Like hell you were. I thought I said no to the recording room?”
Minho’s rage was just about completely directed towards Chan, but to your surprise, the guy gave minimal to no reaction. His face stayed indifferent, wide shoulders relaxed and eyes set.
You’ll be dammed, the fucker wasn’t scared.
Chan wasn’t afraid of your brother.
There was someone on the planet who didn’t go running when Minho looked at them funny, and he was standing right next to you in his beautiful sleeveless glory. If you weren’t currently suffering from a possible concussion you would be dropping to one knee and popping the question then and there.
“Oh, so what you said earlier was a no?” Chan (very unconvincingly) feigned innocence. “Sorry, the phone connection must’ve been bad.”
“I was yelling to you from the other room.”
“These walls are very thick, Minho. It’s your apartment, you should know that.”
“Do you want to be homeless?”
“Define; home.”
That was it, he was your one true love.
As Minho began to cross his arms over his chest, squaring up to Chan with the glare of a certifiable killer, you slid out of the way to avoid the oncoming fist fight.
Or explosion, whichever route Minho decided to take.
But then the unthinkable happened—Minho sighed, dropping his arms to his sides and turning towards you.
Both you and Jisung stood speechless, because you just witnessed someone give Minho an attitude and not get beat down afterwards. Hyunjin had once attempted the same thing and had been chased around the quad for a good forty minutes until the taller man had gotten tired and your brother had become uninterested.
Felix told you that they were both reemed during dance practice that night for being too tired to execute their choreography.
Minho shook his head, “You and Changbin were probably going to convince me anyway. Might as well save the wasted time and get it done now.”
Either your brother had a fat crush on Chan, or the Lee Minho was afraid of someone.
You knew Chan was older than him, but someone had to have some sort of super power to keep Minho from kicking their shins and shoving a knee in their face.
“What is happening…?” Jisung wondered, eyes wide and mouth open.
Chan smiled, striding over to clap Jisung on the shoulder, making the shorter boy jump in surprise.
“Good news. We’re getting a recording studio.”
And you would like to get married to one Bang Chan please.
You joined Chan’s side.
“Now you can finish that song you were working on.” You said, nudging Jisung’s shoulder.
He was just going to ignore the sudden wave of excitement at the fact that you remembered that he was working on a song.
“Yeah, I guess so.” Jisung laughed tensely. “Looks like I’ll be around more often.”
“Yeah, definitely…”
You nodded absentmindedly, eyes locked on the exposed skin of Chan’s arms. Chan himself didn’t acknowledge your stare, but couldn’t help the smug smile that slid onto his face.
Jisung watched the exchange and groaned, looking over to glare at Minho for failing him the only time it truly would end badly for him. Because of course Minho had to be soft for Chan and of course Chan had to be moving in.
Why couldn’t Chan just be ugly?
“Okay,” Chan sighed, placing all the wires he held into a pile on the floor. Suddenly, he turned to you, “You held up your end of the bargain. Let’s work on some stats, huh?”
Your eyes widened for a second, caught in headlights.
“Oh,” was your smart reply. “But we didn’t get to finish?”
Chan waved it off. “The only reason we tried to get it all done was to make sure Minho couldn’t say no. Now that he’s accepted it, we don’t have to rush.”
As much as it bothered him not to finish a project.
You laughed at the little punch Minho threw at Chan’s shoulder on his way out of the room, mumbling something about “going to bed before Changbin comes home to beg for food”. He also made sure to pinch your cheek before leaving.
After swatting at Minho’s hand, you grinned.
“Okay, well… Let’s figure out how we’re going to do this.”
Chan mimicked your smile with a nod.
No way, Jisung thought as you followed his older friend out into the living room, no fucking way.
You just left him without an acknowledging glance his way, and all of a sudden he had a really terrible feeling about leaving you and Chan alone together. Anything could happen—kissing, fucking, god forbid you talk to him. You could become closer and gain feelings for the guy, which would not be a hard task considering Chan was basically the human embodiment of the sun and every damn person seemed to be pulled into his orbit after the first meeting.
Dammit, it was even difficult for Jisung to be mad at him. The guy was too lovable.
Cursing under his breath, Jisung all but ran into the living room to prevent any and all touching or deep talks, because heaven knew how much Chan talked about deep shit.
Ew, he sounded like Minho.
“You don’t have any notes at all?” Chan asked, eyebrows raised. “What do you even do in there?”
You let out a sigh.
“Stats is where I usually do my biology work.”
“Then what do you do in biology?” He questioned bluntly, his eyes skimming all the lost files on your computer that you had given up on ages ago.
“That’s where I write all my essays. The teacher—”
“—never stands up from his chair.”
With wide eyes, you laughed in surprise. Your mouth formed many words but nothing stumbled out, perhaps for a good reason because what you had in your head wasn’t very coherent on its own.
So you just pointed at the snickering Chan, “You…?”
His head shook and your mood dropped.
“I don’t do work for other classes,” he corrected, the mischievous smile slowly sliding onto his lips giving you a little hope back. “I actually produced a whole song in that class.”
Was Jisung dreaming or were you looking at Chan with those big bewildered eyes? Was that what was happening right in front of him? Could he be seeing things?
For once he really hoped he was going insane.
“I knew I wasn’t the only one that slacked off in that class!” You chirped, bouncing a little in your seat.
“And I still got a one-hundred on my exam.” He told you pointedly before passing on the laptop and leaning back on the couch.
Normally, smugness wouldn’t have been attractive to you but on Chan it was something else. His eyes lit up in a way that was almost pretty.
There was a pull towards him as he just sat there and looked at you. It was something that set you on edge in the same way it put you at ease, he just had such a conflicting presence and you really didn’t know how to process it. So your body pushed you forward on it’s own, and with no complaints from him, you felt your hand come to rest on his knee—
But out of the fucking blue, Jisung was throwing himself between you two, his thinner body fitting snuggly in the unfilled space. You sputtered and Chan nearly yelped, holding his hand to his chest to placate his thudding heart.
“Jisung—what the fuck?”
“Did you just jump over the back of the couch?” Chan frowned looking over his shoulder to really determine the path Jisung took to get there.
Jisung smiled obnoxiously, “I just figured I’d help you guys out. Considering I’m also in that class.” He wiggles a little more to separate the two of you even more. “And three brains are better than two.”
“Not when yours is nonexistent.” You quipped, feeling your lips pull into a pout at the intruder.
“Ah, how I love your humor.”
Jisung poked your nose with a tight lipped smile.
Sending Chan a look of apology, he shrugged, falling back further into the couch.
“Sure, why not?” Was his response, shoulders lifting up and falling back down with a huff. “Let me help you set up some proper notes.”
Jisung brought his hands together once to create a near deafening sound that had you even more irritable. His happy-go-lucky mood wasn’t funny when you were on the receiving end of the annoyance.
One nice thing—you couldn’t have one single nice thing ever.
Between your brother and his dumb best friend (that you may or may not have sorta feelings for) you couldn’t do anything. Your prime years were being wasted on sucky romance movies with Felix and Hyunjin and cat fights with Jisung. You couldn’t afford such bullshit for much longer.
“You know I love you, Y/n.”
“Stuff your love up your ass.”
Tumblr media
The rest of the week passed by smoothly with minimal conflict on your end and grades that didn’t have you contemplating slamming your face into a wall. On weekends you usually spent most of your time at Minho’s apartment while Changbin dicked around at the gym and your brother slept for the forty-eight hours that he had to himself. You could watch movies and finish your homework with no distractions.
That was until Chan decided to move in and steal your attention every moment he could. You were even starting to suspect that he was doing it on purpose after the time he walked out of the bathroom in only a bath towel and responded with a “oh, I didn’t notice you there”.
You also concluded that Felix was a snitch and no longer deserved your friendship, because once you shared with him your encounter with Chan, everyone in your group of friends was wired in to everything that concerned you and Chan.
Especially Jisung. Which eventually caused—
“Jisung why the hell are you following me?”
The boy in question didn’t bother to acknowledge you, instead he simply continued to walk at your side, hands stuffed deep in his pockets and hair just a little messier than usual, “What do you mean? This is how I get to my next class.”
You snorted. “Last time I checked, you had dropped your two-thirty class. And even then, it was on the other side of the building.”
Jisung couldn’t help but roll his pretty brown eyes.
“Stalker…”
“Says the guy who’s been up my ass all day.” You chirped, taking pride in the way he glared at you.
Jisung threw his hands up in frustration. He knew what he was doing was out of character, sure. But did he want to be called out on it?
“Can I not hang out with you? God, Y/n. We’ve known each other for years, I’d think you’d get used to me being around.”
You merely shook your head with a laugh, continuing forward.
“You’re really something else.”
He snorted, “So you’re being an adult now?”
“When am I not the adult when I’m with you? There’s no room for stupid energy with you around.” You replied cheekily
“Well I’m sorry for hogging all the ‘stupid energy’, damn…”
The way that Jisung held up the air quotes for “stupid energy” had your cheeks aching from how hard you smiled.
“Well, I’m going to lunch with Felix and Hyunjin right now. So unless you want to be subjected to their combined stupidity, I would suggest you go back to your dorm.” You sent him a small smile over your shoulder, just barely missing the way he tripped over his feet because of it.
Felix had called you in a rush right as you were getting out of your last class of the day and asked you to come eat lunch with him and Hyunjin. It was a one sided conversation that lasted almost ten seconds but you figured you had no other choice but to comply. Whatever reason he had for being in such a hurry was enough for you to listen.
“But you can come if you want, Sungie. I’m sure they won’t mind.”
Sungie.
It had been a while since you last called him that nickname—possibly way back when you were in primary school. It sent chills down his spine to hear you call him that again.
Jisung caught up to you easily, slinging his arm around your shoulders just as he used to when you began calling him Sungie. Over the years it had started to put a strain on him since he found it hard to differentiate what was friendly and what was too friendly. He had a girlfriend after all, and there were only so many things he could do with other girls that was acceptable.
But of course you were just Y/n. The little sister that bothered them all day and called him Sungie.
He didn’t have to feel embarrassed to hug you or tease you or hide his insecurities behind stupid pick up lines. Now matter how much it made his heart pound in his chest, you were still Minho’s baby sister—you were Jisung’s baby sister.
“I’d like that, my dear.” Jisung said, stuffing his free hand into his pocket and pulling you closer.
So close that it almost felt domestic.
Y’know, as domestic as it could get with someone who was like a little sister to him. He had a beautiful girlfriend too, so the domestication was more like a… family comfort and less like how it would feel if you were married and he was allowed to hold you as close as he wanted—
“Ah, you’re warm,” you hummed, making a small fuss of tucking yourself further into his hold. “It always looks like it’s going to be nice outside, but it seems like the weather changes its mind just as much as Hyunjin.”
You didn’t notice but Jisung was completely lost to everything you said after “you’re warm”. He just continued to hum and nod as if his brain wasn’t completely fried.
Jisung was in the midst of a mental breakdown when you somehow managed to lead him to the small restaurant right outside of the university. It was a popular place since it was so close and dolled out cheap food in a matter of seconds, which definitely appealed to its main demographic.
You spotted Felix’s head of purple hair immediately, a bright smile etched onto his face as he spoke animatedly to the waiter standing at the ready. The boy was cute, black hair and pretty dimples that made him appear younger. He also looked friendly with Felix with how he spoke with a wide smile that showed his perfect teeth.
You approached the table, shrugging Jisung’s arm off of you and ignoring his whine in protest.
“I made it,” you announced, gaining the attention of your friends—
And fuck.
You met eyes with Seungmin sitting in the seat beside Felix, and felt your shoulders slump as he flashed you a smirk.
“Glad you could come, Y/n.” Seungmin all but sang at your visible distress.
But Felix had a hold on your arm before you could respond with attitude, tugging you dangerously close to the waiter at your side.
“Y/n, this is Jeongin—” Felix gestured towards the boy who lifted his hand to wave. “He’s a school friend of Hyunjin’s.”
“It’s my last year.” Jeongin added with a shy laugh.
Peeling your eyes away from Seungmin, you got a good look at the boy in front of you. The unexpected cuteness both startled you and made your stomach flip. You really had to withhold from squealing and pinching his cheeks. He was so cute.
You smiled genuinely, “It’s nice to meet you, Jeonginnie.”
A small wave of red covered his ears at the sudden nickname, his long eyelashes fluttering in surprise.
Jisung just about combusted in his spot. He was getting pretty sick and tired of keeping tabs on all the boys you managed to hook around your finger, it was starting to get out of hand. Okay, maybe he was the stalker.
In a bout of frustration, Jisung grabbed your hand and interlaced your fingers, sliding into the booth beside Hyunjin and tugging you after him. You made a noise of surprise as your ass connected harshly with the cracked red cushion of the booth, sending Jisung a glare.
Though, he kept his eyes on the table, avoiding the amused looks on everyone’s faces, even going as far as swatting away Hyunjin’s poking fingers. But for whatever reason, he couldn’t bring himself to release your hand from his.
Jisung’s palm was sweaty in your hold, but strangely enough it was something that you didn’t mind.
Jeongin looked between you and Jisung for a moment before quickly coming to some sort of realization that only Felix seemed to understand. His mouth formed an ‘o’ shape and a small smirk was suddenly on his lips as he asked what drink you would like.
Whatever that was about, you didn’t like it.
“I’ll just have a water.” You answered skeptically, finally managing to pull your fingers free of Jisung’s grip.
“Water for me too.”
Jeongin didn’t bother to write down your orders, instead he just nodded and left with that same goofy smile on his face.
Why did your friends have to corrupt the poor kid?
You sent a glare towards Felix, ready to grill him about what the hell just happened but his eyes were on something else above your head, his lips forming into the same smirk that Jeongin had on. Whatever what’s either above you or behind you was either a stupid compilation video of League of Legend funny moments or your next victim.
“Care for one more?” Came from behind you.
And both your and Jisung’s heads swiveled around at a dangerous speed to see the beautiful image of Chan, and damn was he beautiful. He was dressed for the weather, arms now covered in a long black sweater that hugged every one of his muscles so so nicely, and instead of sweatpants, he was wearing jeans. You could definitely tell the difference between a casual day around the house and one where he was going to be seen out in public—was that makeup?
And Jisung frowned. It had been going so well.
It was his turn to send Felix a glare.
The purple haired boy mouthed something along the lines of “girlfriend”, but Jisung couldn’t (could) really make it out.
“Sit down.” You managed to choke out, motioning toward the table.
“Hey!” Felix greeted, standing up to fully embrace Chan in a hug.
You were floored.
“You know each other?”
Felix’s eyes flickered towards you, “We both grew up in Sydney.”
And you thought your eyes were going to pop out of your skull.
“You’re Australian?” You gaped, watching Chan as if he had sprouted a new head.
He then proceeded to spout off some heavily accented words that you could barely make sense of, and you could feel your heart practically flutter in your chest. After meeting Felix, you never thought you’d ever find an Australian accident sexy as hell—but Chan’s was, in fact, very sexy as hell.
“Wow,” Hyunjin whistled. “What does it take for one to become Australian, because fuck.”
You didn’t think you would ever agree with Hyunjin so much in your life.
Chan snorted. “I think you have to be born in Australia unfortunately.”
“Or you know,” Felix tossed sarcastically. “Live there.”
“Damn. Always the catch.”
You sighed, almost going as far as face-palming yourself and/or slamming your forehead against the table.
Instead you just sent Chan an embarrassed smile. “You can sit down if you aren’t planning on running away.”
“Thanks.” He laughed.
Unfortunately for you, there were already three people in your booth and he wouldn’t be able to fit beside you.
Fortunately for Jisung, there were already three people in your booth and Chan wouldn’t be able to fit beside you.
But when Chan began to slide in the seat next to Felix, Hyunjin suddenly jumped with a yelp, glaring at the suspicious looking Felix in front of him. The two had a very strange conversation with their eyes before Hyunjin was huffing a sigh and maneuvering himself to slip under the booth and (clumsily, you may add) pop out on the other side of Seungmin, ignoring the spectacled boys' complaints as he sends Chan a smile.
Stupid plotting assholes.
“Just wanted to sit next to my… uh—”
“Boyfriend?” You supplied, blinking at him dully.
“Yeah, my boy—hey, fuck you!”
“Sorry, were you waiting to tell people?”
He took the liberty to be the kicker instead of the kickee and sent his foot into your ankle, making you hiss with a glare.
Felix nudged Chan’s hip to direct him into the spot beside you, his mouth open in a wide smile as you are further squished between both Jisung and Chan. With one boy being very broad and the other being very clingy, you barely had any room at all.
“Y/n, you look a little cramped, why don’t you scoot over here a little more—?”
“Jisung, if I get any closer to you, I would be on top of you.”
Hey, he wasn’t completely opposed to that plan.
Jisung certainly would rather have you on his lap than Chan’s. He couldn’t even think about that without grasping for your hand again, though you were too fast and managed to wiggle out of his grip.
“Yeah, Y/n. Why don’t you just scoot over?” Hyunjin sang, his mouth curled up in a coy little smirk that he always had carved onto his face.
“You scheming little—”
But your words were cut off by the clearing of a throat.
Seungmin leaned over the table, and the way his sleeves were rolled to his forearms was suddenly very noticeable. He looked at you with the intention to kill, and had he not been a prudish reincarnation of the devil, you would’ve thought he looked hot as fuck.
“Do you want me to retell the little incident that took place at last year’s Christmas party?”
A collective gasp went around the table, Chan being the only one who was absolutely clueless.
Felix whispered something under his breath about how “that was sworn to secrecy”, and Hyunjin’s wide eyes stuck to the side of Seungmin’s face like glue.
Even Jisung broke out of his jealous stupor to gulp.
“You wouldn’t dare.”
“I would.”
That was the true form of Kim Seungmin.
“What? Do dinners like this happen all the time?” Chan asked. “Do you ever actually eat?”
As if on queue, Jeongin stepped up to the table, notepad in hand and wide eyes sparkling. “Are you guys ready to order—?”
But Felix was dragging the boy down to his height, whispering something quickly into his ear, causing his eyes to widen. After enlarging, his gaze flickered back and forth between you, Jisung and Chan.
“I… will give you guys a few more minutes.”
Jeongin scurried off and you wanted to kill everyone at the table.
“Well, I’m going to answer my own question here and say no. There will be no eating food today.” Chan hummed, tossing his menu onto the table similarly to a petulant child.
You huffed. What did you ever do to deserve any of this?
With both boys at either side of you, it seemed to create a visual representation of the conflict in your mind. And Seungmin looked like he was ready to pass out with how hard he was trying to hold in his laughter as Felix and Hyunjin simply smiled your way.
To say that the two boys were completely clueless, would’ve been an understatement—
With Chan too busy thinking about all the food he wouldn’t be eating and Jisung preoccupied trying to grab ahold of your hand, they didn’t once notice the way that the three little devils stared holes into their heads.
“I literally can’t stand any of you.”

You need to accept that Gabriel is just as unsympathetic as Audrey. The man will only attempt 'parenting' when it's convenient for him, not when Adrien goes to him first. He is absolutely willing to use Adrien even as an akuma.
Well who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?
First off, when I complain that ML has inconsistent writing when it comes to Gabriel's character, this isn't. This isn't me being in denial of him being an asshole. I do think he deserves to be decked by each and every member of Team Miraculous. Twice!
Secondly, yes there is a fucking difference between Audrey and Gabriel. Audrey does not give a shit about her children. She doesn't even remember their names. Barely remembers they exist, actually. Everything she does to them is the same kind of cruel she would be to anyone else.
Gabriel does the shitty things he does out of love. And no, that doesn't magically make it "okay"! His parenting is still very bad and that harms Adrien's mental health! But it is still very different and is something that, to me at least, shows that Gabriel could potentially change if he realizes this.
And he has! There have been scenes IN CANON where Gabriel realizes he was in the wrong and changes his mind to make Adrien happy! Gabriel even nearly gave up on being Hawkmoth altogether because Adrien got hurt and he felt it wasn't worth risking Adrien's life!
Again, it doesn't make everything okay and Adrien absolutely does not have to forgive him! But Gabriel's "I love you and I am doing what I think is best" approach is a whole different can of worms than Audrey's "I insult everyone like this because they're not worthy" thing.
Back to the inconsistent writing!
There seem to be two Gabriels.
The first is a sympathetic villain. This is what we see in Queen Wasp, Felix, Glaciator 2. He is still an asshole of a parent. He is still a supervillain. But he is a supervillain for a noble reason(bringing his wife back), and does genuinely care about Adrien and wants him to be safe and happy, even if his parenting skills suck ass.
Then there's what we get in Chat Blanc and probably Empheral. 100% monsterous asshole who would break and abuse his own child for whatever goal he has.
We can have Glaciator 2, where Gabriel refuses to Akumatize Adrien and tries to help him through whatever is making him so upset. But then we also get Chat Blanc where Gabriel throws Adrien through a wall and forces an Akumatization!
The two do not match up! And I blame the writers changing what they need for the episode rather than Gabriel himself.
Now. We get to the question. Of my own fanworks. Why use one interpretation of Gabriel over the other?
Because by fuck! I find the "sympathetic and still cares even if he's royally fucking up" villain to be more interesting in this scenario!
Yes, Ill have my absolute bastard villains who are literally ready to murder a child for what they want! I'll take Argost and Vilgax and even goddamn Ozai! Those assholes are great villains and kinda fun to handle!
But having Gabriel be the sympathetic one we see half the time is more interesting for this story to me.

Hey AC! I love your blog and was wondering if I could get your opinion on something. I've seen some people complaining that Ingrid and Hilda are treated by the fandom, with Ingrid stans saying that Hilda is also racist towards Almyrans (which, granted, she is) but doesn't get nearly as much hate about it as Ingrid does. But personally I feel like their attitudes and the way they react towards Dedue/Cyril are wildly different and Hilda generally seems less hateful/irrational about it. Thoughts?
This is... kind of a touchy topic... I like it though! It’s worth discussing, especially since I feel like it’s broke criticism to simply deflect blame onto a character in order to prop up another.  Full and obvious disclosure: I very much dislike Ingrid and very much love Hilda. That said, I don’t think it’s fair to compare them for the sake of which is worse. I fall into the trap of character criticism through comparison far too often and it's not really valid unless you can fully explore each character in their own right beforehand. Which is why, while writing this, I came to the conclusion that the ways these two characters are interpreted and the reason people view their racist tendencies differently has far more to do with the characters themselves than their actual beliefs.
From first impressions to subsequent playthroughs, this is pretty much how I feel about Ingrid: she brings up her hatred of the Duscur people and Dedue unprompted and uncontested several times at the very beginning of the game, putting it front and center to her character. This is important, it sets a foundational component for how I could come to view her. According to her introduction, she is honorable and respectful, a model lady knight trope. But, as mentioned, she's really racist. Literally standing around thinking about how awful it is that Dimitri would trust a man of Duscur because they are all bad people. Yikes. And nobody calls her on it. Again, this is very important for perception. People judge Sylvain for his bad behavior in a much more harsh way than they do Ingrid for her vitriolic loathing for another classmate who we have seen as nothing but respectful. It's weird. And then, despite the fact that her close friend Sylvain was able to reason out that it’s not possible for the Duscur people to be at fault for the Tragedy, despite the fact that the prince of the country she supposedly hopes to serve with unwavering respect and loyalty has made it clear that he does not believe that Dedue or Duscar are responsible for the Tragedy, and despite the fact that Dimitri, her close friend and the one most affected by the Tragedy (seriously, she lost a guy she might have married and he lost his best friend, mother, and watched his father be killed in front of his eyes) continuously insists that neither Dedue nor Duscur are at fault, she loudly and openly believes that the ensuing massacre of Duscur was deserved and Dedue is inherently culpable simply because of his race. Her motivations for this hatred feel even more cheap considering her dogged hero worship for Glenn was born out of the fact that she was promised to him, making the fact that she’d use his death as reason enough for the destruction of countless innocent lives even more unsympathetic in my eyes. I mean, seriously, she was around 13 and he was older than her, how close could they have truly been? Dimitri says they were in love, but she was a child. Abandoning my modern sensibilities about age of consent or whatever, kids at that age don't have the emotional or mental capability. Maybe this is just nitpicking, but I have a very hard time caring about that relationship. But, if her actual justification is because of what happened to Faerghus as a result of the Tragedy and feels duty-bound as a knight to find justice through the systematic destruction of the Duscur people, then it just circles back to confusion considering the future leader of said country doesn't hold Duscur or Dedue responsible. The importance of perception comes in because despite these paper thin excuses and her seemingly willfully ignorant hatred, she is never challenged on her racist beliefs. The reason she seems to change her mind about Dedue and consider that maybe excusing a genocide is wrong stems from guilt that Dedue continuously comes to her aid in battle at the potential cost of his own life. I can understand, to a certain extent, why she might feel the way she does. But, again, I have such a hard time with any justification when nobody that she's close to is even nearly as hateful as her, there is plenty of evidence (evidence that the people close to her have found!) to provide a very reasonable counterclaim to Duscur's guilt, and that none of that even matters when it would require her to openly contradict the prince of her country to make the claim that Dedue was in any way complicit in the Tragedy. Which would be fine if she wasn't established as the model Lady Knight archetype, which also brings us into Ingrid's moral high horse. Admittedly, I hate the Lady Knight trope. I have a significant bias against these types of characters. However, I really do think that this moral crusade is where she lost me completely. Without even a shred of empathy or self awareness, she lectures Sylvain about his shitty behavior even though their circumstances are at least somewhat similar and he has his reasons (bad ones, maybe, but ones worth understanding if she actually cares about him), she lectures Felix about not being interested in knightly endeavors (an aspect of his character that is born of the trauma she has appropriated), and she lectures Claude about behavior that is befitting of a man in his position. Not because she cares about the girls Sylvain is hurting, not because she thinks there are any grave stakes from Felix choosing to do his own thing, and not because she knows that Claude's behavior affects his ability to lead, but because she doesn't like these behaviors and thinks they should be fixed. Yet, at the same time, she believes Dedue deserved to lose his family, country, and culture based on his birth and nobody ever does anything to morally correct her, it is something she eventually is forced to acknowledge on her own. It's frustrating, infuriating even, that the game lets her get away with being so grossly hypocritical. And, all the while, she is being painted as sympathetic. Again, I have a hard time feeling sympathy for her about Glenn, and I certainty don't feel sympathetic towards her issues about marriage because there's never any actual tension there. Of course she won't be forced to marry, she's a Lady Knight. Beyond being unsympathetic, I also find her massively unlikable. Awful design, poor voice direction, food-loving-as-a-personality-trait, the fact that she's written as one of those stock "feminist" characters who hate makeup and girly things until it benefits them, and constantly butting in on other characters to give her opinion without taking any criticism herself are all aspects that I just personally dislike. Ultimately, Ingrid being racist is only a symptom of the many reasons her character is one of my least favorites. Most of these points can be countered by someone who doesn't take issue with the things that annoy me and to point out that Ingrid DOES get over her racist beliefs. It's not fair to say that she doesn't change but, for me, the damage was already done by the time she became tolerable so I still have a hard time appreciating her. My assumption would be that there are a lot of other people who feel similarly to me regarding their dislike of Ingrid so they focus on one easy character flaw, her being racist at the beginning of the game, as a reason to validate their dislike of her overall.
On the other hand, Hilda's racism isn't a main trait of her character. It's related to her overarching character flaws, but she doesn't bring it up unprompted and can actually be pretty much missed without the Cyrill supports. Like you said, Hilda does seem less hateful and irrational, it doesn't take willful malice and an active rejection of reason for Hilda to dislike the Almyrans, they pose a genuine and provable threat to her family and territory, seemingly senselessly testing the borders and throwing away lives for the sake of conquest. To be clear, her "you're not like those OTHER Almyrans" schtick is legitimately nasty. Her behavior is gross and condescending and it really underscores the fact that Hilda is ignorant, lazy, inconsiderate, and incredibly comfortable in her privilege. She accepts what she's been told at face value because she's too lazy to look into it further. Cyrill does tell her she's stupid to think that way, though. Which is satisfying because Hilda in those supports is insufferable, it really highlights the worst aspects of her character, dismissive, manipulative, and very selfish. However, for me, she's also very likeable. I'm not interested in going over my opinions on her like I did with Ingrid as I don’t feel it’s as important to my point but a few reasons I really like her is because I think Hilda has a fantastic design, cute supports, amazing voice work, and is secretly sweet in a way that absolutely tickles my fancy. I am sure many people do not agree with me, which is fine. Additionally, just as Ingrid grows out of her racist beliefs, so does Hilda. They both end the game as more tolerant and caring people. Still, for the same reason a person could argue that Ingrid is actually great and I'm being unfair, they could argue that Hilda is terrible and I'm too biased. That's fair and true..... but I think the fact that Hilda is more generally appealing in conjunction with the less obvious nature of her racist attitude makes people less likely to dismiss her as a racist in the same way they do Ingrid. Unless they dislike Hilda, in which case, it’s all fair game.
Anyyyways, a main takeaway from this is that I highly doubt people are truly arguing on the individual basis of who's more racist, but that they're engaging in the age old waifu war. As with many characters in this game, it's easier to argue moral superiority when you can't quite articulate what you like or don't like about a character. Or, even worse, when you're arguing opinion. Even now, as is clear by reading this, I am arguing my opinion of why I don't like Ingrid. Not because she's racist, but because of the character traits and writing choices that make her unlikable to me. I like Hilda because, flaws and all, I find her to be compelling and enjoyable. From the people that I know, at least, that is basically how the Ingrid stans v Hilda racism argument is structured, even if they dress it up in different language.
By the by Hilda never talks about how the Almyrans deserve to be wiped out. I think that probably sours a lot of people's opinions of Ingrid no matter what happened afterward but that’s fine we can just pretend that didn’t happen

do you think there's any possibility for a redemption of characters like lila/felix, given how chloe's arc went? i feel like felix has a lot of potential given his vague motives by the end of the episode, and if he ended up being somewhat friendly around adrien but still actively going against gabriel would do for a nice concept, and change of events - given that lila works with both gabriel and hawkmoth.
this show could really benefit from an anti-hero type of character, and i think he's the most fitting for that role? but really, the recent episodes really left me disappointed, so ANYONE at this point could do better. what are your thoughts?
I think Chloé’s ‘arc’ was really messy and filled with seemingly contradictory ideas (Chloé doing everything to get to be Queen Bee again, even if that means endangering others, but also her being more responsible and, dare I say, selfless and heroic) conveyed confusingly and generally poorly, and that people were rightfully disappointed to see what it ended up being.
I’m not sure That Guy cares much about doing anything interesting with Lila which is a shame because she was a really great character, with a good character model, clear motives and some untapped depths that were hinted at but never developed (which is so Miraculous). If you don’t already follow @volperion, you absolutely should, it’s the best curated blog about Lila on this cursed website, her original posts and her reblogs are all great.
I might be overly optimistic, but I don’t think that a 14 year old kid can be evil. Cruel perhaps, malicious, certainly, but straight-up evil? That’s just silly. I don’t think anything interesting will happen with Lila in the show, unfortunately, she’ll remain a minor antagonist, perhaps she’ll become the next Hawk Moth but considering how absent she is from the show proper (she’s not even in the opening), that’s unlikely. I personally wouldn’t make Lila an antihero, I would embrace her being a lonely kid with a troubled life who expresses that in fucked up ways, a resentful kid who wants agency and control and who is terrified that other people will see the 'real' her and also despises them. Basically a kid in an Ikuhara show. Chloé was already a failed Nanami ripoff, so…
I do agree that Felix seems like a likely candidate for that kind of anti-hero role, I mean he looks like a store brand Draco Malfoy, he’s into magic tricks and trickery, there are signs of an internal conflict within him, and, as you mentioned, he’s super vague about his motives (outside of ‘making mum happy’) and that means he’s super easy to write. Plus, he’s a reasonably attractive white boy, which means he won’t be vilified the way the girls are. There’s one dark spot though, which is when he forced himself on Ladybug and harassment is a big no-no for me. But then again the show seems to have no problem with the fact that Adrichat is barely any better than Felix when it comes to that, so who knows?
I don’t believe Miraculous has set anything up regarding antiheroes, unfortunately, it has a very bizarre vision of morality and heroism, very skewed but also weirdly manichean sometimes. From the get go, Lila and Chloé were introduced as unsympathetic bad guys, whereas Kagami was shown to be ultimately good and nice in her very first episode. Miraculous is not very concerned with nuances or psychological subtleties. It’s a show that very often spells out what it wants its audience to think and feel, and I don’t see how an antiheroic figure would fit into that.
I don’t think show will improve, but I’m morbidly curious about how much worse it can possibly get.

Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna Romanova of Russia at Tsarskoe Selo in 1913.
At the time of this photo she was 18,Olga died at aged 23. During that era ~ whether it was arranged or for love, females married young. If she did she could have escaped the horror that was to come. Her own mother, the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia was considered old at aged 22 when she married.
Her marriage prospects
•Prince Ioann Konstantinovich Romanov of Russia fell in love with Olga. When he was 16, he attended Alexei's christening in 1904 and met the 9-year-old Olga. He reflected that “I was so enraptured by her I can’t even describe it. It was like a wildfire fanned by the wind. Her hair was waving, her eyes were sparkling, well, I can’t even begin to describe it!!”. In 1908, he traveled to the Crimea "only out of hunger to see Olga." He admitted his feelings to Olga's parents, but they rejected him. He told his father, "They won't let me marry Olga Nikolaevna."
•In 1911, there were rumors that Olga would marry George, Crown Prince of Serbia or Prince Boris of Bulgaria. The article claimed that Nicholas intended to make his four daughters the "Queens of the Balkans" to keep the Balkan states faithful to Russia.
•After the Coronation of King George V of the United Kingdom there was speculation that either Olga or Tatiana would marry Prince Edward of Wales.
•There were rumors that Olga and her first cousin once removed Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich Romanov of Russia were romantically involved. As an orphan, Dmitri was very close to Olga's parents, which provoked more speculation that he would marry Olga. Arthur Cherep-Spiridovich wrote, “Such was the Emperor’s affection for him that all the entourage already saw in him the future fiancé of one of the grand duchesses.Alexandra Bogdanova, the wife of a general and hostess of a monarchist salon, wrote in her diary on 7 June 1912 that Olga had been betrothed the previous night to Grand Duke. The Washington Post reported that Olga had refused Prince Adalbert because "she had given her heart to her cousin Grand Duke Dmitri Paulovitch."In August 1912, Meriel Buchanan, the British ambassador's daughter, wrote in her diary, "I heard a rumour yesterday that a certain person is going to marry the Emperor’s eldest daughter. I can’t quite believe it considering all the high and mighty people who are panting to marry her. Of course she may have a coup de foudre for him and insist on having her own way.” In his book The Rasputin File, Edvard Radzinsky speculates that the betrothal was broken off due to Dmitri's dislike for Grigori Rasputin, his association with Felix Yussupov and rumors that Dmitri was bisexual. However, no other sources mention an official betrothal to Dmitri Pavlovich.
•Before World War I, there was some discussion of a marriage between Olga and Prince Carol of Romania. In 1914, Foreign Minister Sergey Sazonov advocated the match because he wanted to ensure that the Romanian royal family would support Russia in case of a future conflict. Nicholas and Alexandra saw the benefits of the match, but they insisted that “the grand duchess’s marriage … should take place only as the result of a much closer acquaintance between the young people and on the absolute condition of their daughter’s voluntary agreement to it."In March 1914, Crown Prince Ferdinand of Romania, Crown Princess Marie of Romania, and Prince Carol of Romania visited the Romanovs in St. Petersburg. Despite going on walks and dinners with each other, Olga and Carol seemed uninterested in each other. During a visit to Romania in the spring of 1914, Olga and Carol were uninterested in each other and did not speak to each other. Crown Princess Marie of Romania, noted that Carol was "not enamored of Olga's broad, plain face and brusque manner." She judged that Olga's face "was too broad, her cheekbones too high," and she told her mother that all of the grand duchesses "were not found very pretty." Marthe Bibesco, who was with the Romanian party, heard a rumor that the grand duchesses had "decided... to make themselves as ugly as they could.... so that Carol should not fall in love with any of them.". The plans were, in any event, put on hold upon the outbreak of war in 1914.
•Olga told Pierre Gilliard that she wanted to marry a Russian and remain in her own country. She said her parents would not force her to marry anyone she could not like.
•In 1913, Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin asked Alexandra about a potential marriage between the 18-year-old Olga and her own 38-year-old son, Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich of Russia. Alexandra was horrified, because "the idea of Boris is too unsympathetic." She refused to allow "a pure, fresh girl" to marry "a well-used, half worn out, blasé young man" and "live in a house in which many a woman has shared his life."
