Saddle Stitch Binding
Our first binding method is saddle stitch, which happens to be the easiest of all. Saddle stitching proves affordable and ideal for documents consisting of fewer pages. By stapling wire through the spine and folding printed sheets in half, a finished product takes shape. Alternatively, utilizing looped staples permits insertion into ring binders without requiring punched holes.
Side Staple Binding
The side staple technique is primarily employed to bind perforated pages, such as those found in quote books and delivery notes. The procedure involves stacking individual pages together before stapling them with wire through the front cover from front to back before trimming.
Singer Sewn & Side Sewn Binding
Singer-sewn binding is a sturdy technique employed for creating resilient materials such as passports. It employs an industrial sewing machine to stitch the pages together along the spine lengthwise. Additionally, side singer-sewn or side-sewn binding provides another option where pages are jointly fastened through both front and back covers, making it perfect for thicker books and notepads.
Padded/Pad Binding
The technique of pad binding, also known as "padding," is utilized primarily for notepads and enables the easy detachment of individual pages. A lower-strength adhesive coating is applied on the edge of a stack of pages to create these pads. To ensure stability and usability when held, a thicker board is generally affixed at the back end.
Wiro /Plastic Coil Binding
The two primary types of punched binding are wire and plastic coil binding, enabling books to open fully flat with the pages rotating 360 degrees towards the back. Firstly, printed pages are trimmed and then hole-punched before being fastened using a spiral coil or wire that is crimped shut.
Japanese / Stab Binding
Dating back centuries, Japanese or stab binding is a decorative technique where sheets are folded once at the center, hole-punched and sewn by hand along the spine using different needle and thread patterns.
Perfect binding
The process of perfect binding involves using machinery to bind softcover books, magazines and brochures. The technique entails stacking individual pages together before affixing them to an outer cover that sports a square spine. This is achieved by the application of potent polyurethane (PUR) glue which gives the method its name- Perfect Binding.
Burst Binding
Burst binding is essentially perfect binding with a unique twist whereby pages are grouped into sections, folded and then notched down the spine by machinery to achieve stronger adherence of glue. This results in an exceptionally robust finish that makes it particularly ideal for books containing a greater number of pages compared to standard bindings.
Quarter Binding
In the past, quarter-bound, half-bound or taped bindings were commonly used to produce books at a lower cost by employing inexpensive materials. These binding methods involve two distinct materials - one for covering the spine and another for protecting the cover. However, to enhance durability, pages are often bonded together and fastened on one side which results in reduced ease of opening compared with
Case Binding
The conventional hardcover book involves printing pages that are folded and stitched into multiple sections, safeguarded by a firm rigid cover. The covers may be coated with various materials like linen, buckram or leather; alternatively, a printed design can be affixed on top of the tough casing. Such casebound books have long-lasting durability and might even sustain restoration years down the road.
Pamphlet Stitch
A refined binding technique known as the pamphlet stitch is ideal for documents with a modest number of pages. After folding and hole-punching the printed sheets, one manually threads them together using needle and thread before tying them off at the book's center to finish it elegantly.
Exposed Spine Binding
Exposed spine binding, also known as exposed Smyth sewn or thread-bound, is an aesthetically appealing method of bookbinding. The pages are folded into sections and then hand-sewn together at the spine with a continuous thread. To reinforce durability, pad glue is applied to the spine after sewing it. Books bound in this manner open almost completely flatly for easy reading.
Chicago Screw Binding
The Chicago Screw technique involves utilizing metal screw posts for fastening pages, allowing flexibility in terms of adding or removing sheets. This makes it a desirable option for materials like menus and folios that undergo frequent revisions. Furthermore, an expandable hardcover can be customized with exterior, interior or concealed screws to fit any desired dimensions. Given its versatile nature, this binding process is particularly popular among property sales pitches as well as showcasing photographic portfolios.
Custom Boxes, Slipcases and Ring Binding
sophisticated storage solution that allows for showcasing your valuable materials and samples, custom boxes and slipcases are just the perfect fit. This type of binding is artistically crafted according to your precise specifications. Manual assembly entails utilizing top-quality board material before wrapping it with an array of premium fabrics including buckram, linen cloths as well as leather or printed laminated paper.

I’ve heard that having a vivid, picture filled way of thinking can be common in Autistic people.
However, I cannot see anything in my head. I believe this is called Aphantasia.
Sometimes it can become a bit difficult to relate to other autistic people because they talk about this colorful, imaginative, diverse way of thinking with pictures only. And I just don’t have that. However, I do have an inner dialogue that is practically all over the place. I often have trouble doing tasks, paying attention, sleeping and listening to people because of my inner dialogue and usual disinterest.
To make this a question, I ask if you have any information on the possible cross between vivid picture thinking and Autistic individuals. On top of that, what’s common for ADHD thinking? (I have my theories about having Audhd myself)
The first point I need to make: Autism is a spectrum. Yes, many autistic people report thinking in pictures, but that doesn't mean other ways aren't possible!
Media always portrays stereotypes & extremes. Cognitive thinking styles vary just as much between autistics as in allistics.
Visual imagination varies from person to person, allistic or autistic. While some people picture thoughts as images in their minds, there are people who do not or just very little. On one end, there are “aphantasics” who can’t visualise images at all or very little.
On the opposite end are “hyperphantasics” with hyperphantasia, who have an incredibly vivid imagination, so strong it’s almost like they’re really seeing it. In between, there are those with phantasia & hypophantasia, experiencing varying degrees of imagery vividness.
Temple Grandin was the first to talk about her vivid thinking in pictures ("Thinking in pictures", 1995). I do have to mention to take her writing with a grain of salt, I find her choice of wording very ableist & I disklike the term Asperger a lot because of reasons. When I read her work, I feel like she distinguishes between autism as a superpower (mostly highly intelligent people) & autism as a disaster (people with a normal/less than normal IQ/ nonverbal folk etcetera), which is related to a lot of ableism.
I certainly can do both: I mostly think in pictures, but I do have "talking" in my head. It's often called an inner narrator.
Many people with ADHD report having a vivid inner narrator that constantly talks & comments as well.
My inner narrator stops when my speaking declines, e.g., when I'm overstimulated or when I am having a bad day sensorywise - all I get is pictures then.
I think it's because words & speech are harder to produce & process than images.
My cognitive thinking style is associative, which means I sort information (as pictures) in categories - equal to a folder on a computer.
That's why I can "topic-jump" in a conversation, too. This also can be compared to ADHD people & their thought-jumping.
While not every autistic person is a visual learner, visual thinkers are common among the autistic population, just like you said.
That's because we tend to be more sensitive to details & patterns in our environments & therefore, more likely to notice subtle differences in shapes, colours or forms.
One of the most common misconceptions regarding visual thinking is that it is limited to just images.
Forms, shapes, lines, colors, scale, proximity - all these aspects are essential to take into account as they provide details about how data relates to other pieces of information, how significant something is in the scheme of things, how close two ideas are to one another & comprises both visual & cognitive dimensions that go way beyond pictures.
My associative thinking comes from my greatest strengths:
Strong affinity for details (bottom-up thinking)
Strong pattern recognition
The ability to come up with an array of different possibilities for a single situation due to my associative thinking
Almost as if it was the scene of a movie or a painted picture, I can see how information connects, allowing my brain to cut down several cognitive processes that would otherwise have to be involved if the information was delivered in a massive chunk of text or by auditory channels. Ah, yes, words are hard.
Spoken information can be tricky to process for us autistic people, particularly for those with more sensitive & avoidant sensory processing profiles, meaning our brains take in sensory information to a higher degree than those who aren’t.
This is why visualisation works so well as a tool- images are easier to process because you can detect patterns more easily than when you have to listen to someone giving verbal instructions (right?).
What other cognitive thinking styles are there?
Verbal/ logic thinkers
Music & math ('pattern') thinkers
Verbal/logic thinkers tend to be good at learning languages & have an affinity for words, literature & speech. They also tend to have a huge memory for verbal facts on all kinds of things. Some are exceptionally adept at learning many different foreign languages, but they tend to be poor at drawing & other visual thinking skills.
And pattern thinkers... have patterns.
Patterns E V E R Y W H E R E. ✨️
They tend to have problems with reading & writing composition.
✨️What about ADHD thinking style?✨️
Common is: out of the box. 😎
Three aspects of creative cognition are divergent thinking, conceptual expansion & overcoming knowledge constraints.
Divergent thinking, or the ability to think of many ideas from a single starting point, is a critical part of creative thinking.
Divergent thinking relates to low inhibition.
Latent inhibition is the ability to automatically 'filter out' irrelevant stimuli.
Divergent thinking & low inhibition are related because the ability to generate a variety of ideas is hampered by inhibitive processes that aim to suppress irrelevant ideas. You get distracted way to easily & you can lose yourself in many thoughts.
This can be very disabling, but it can also be beneficial for new ideas & problem-solving!
There is also an interesting essay I found:
ADHDers have a kinetic form of thinking.
Nick Walker coined this term. Great person /srs.
The “kinetic” in “Kinetic Cognitive Style” is about more than hyperactivity.
Read more here because I am now tired from my four hour research.

Theory of the 5 Elements
Tumblr media
Usually translated as "Five Phases" or "Five Agents," Wuxing (Chinese: 五行; Pinyin: wǔxíng; Japanese: gogyō (五行); Korean: ohaeng (오행); Vietnamese: ngũ hành (五行))is a five-part conceptual framework that many traditional Chinese fields used to explain a variety of phenomena, from cosmic cycles to the interaction between internal organs, and from the succession of political regimes to the properties of medicinal drugs. The Chinese characters for the "Five Phases" are Fire (火; huǒ), Water (水; shuǐ), Wood (木; mù), Metal or Gold (金; jīn), and Earth or Soil (土; tǔ). The "Days of the Week" sequence is the name of the presentational order. They are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water in the order of "mutual generation"  (相生; xiāngshēng). They are Wood, Earth, Water, Fire, and Metal in the order of "mutual overcoming" (相克; xiāngkè).
The five-phase approach was employed to explain interactions and connections between various events. This tool was used in many branches of early Chinese thought after it reached its peak in the second or first century BCE during the Han dynasty, including seemingly unrelated fields like Yi jing divination, alchemy, feng shui, astrology, traditional Chinese medicine, music, military strategy, and martial arts. Contrary to the Classical components of the ancient Mediterranean civilisation, sometimes translated as the "Five Elements," the Wǔxíng was primarily thought of as cosmic agents of change rather than a way to explain natural objects.
Tumblr media
Interactions between the five elements
Generating interactions
The five components' producing interactions resemble a mother and child's conception, gestation, birth, and nurturing connection. Such closely related elemental pairings suggest prosperity and good fortune.
Fueling, forming, confining, transporting, and feeding are the five generating interactions:
Wood fuel fire
Fire forms Earth (volcanoes, ash, etc.)
Earth contains metal
Metal carries water (buckets, pipes, etc)
Water feeds wood (trees, plants, etc)
Overcoming interactions
The five components' overcoming interactions resemble the hostile acts committed by opposing parties in a conflict.
Melting, penetrating, separating, absorbing, and quenching are the five overcoming interactions.
Fire melts metal
Metal penetrates wood( chopping, sawing, drilling, nailing, screwing)
Wood separates earth (tree roots breaking up soil/ rock)
Water quenches fire
Depending on the birth year, each person is assigned one of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs and a 12-year cycle. Each of the Chinese zodiac signs and 12-year cycles is related to one of the five elements.
According to Chinese astrology, life energy (or qi) is defined by the time and day of birth, while zodiac sign (or element) and 12-year cycle elements influence personality and luck. To determine your Chinese zodiac sign and element, use the calculator.
Tumblr media
How to make good luck using the five elements theory
The most crucial aspect of Fengshui Theory is the Five Elements Theory. Good Fengshui, following traditional Chinese philosophy, will bring good fortune. One of the five elements is considered to govern the qi energy of each direction. Aligning one's life with the qi should thus remove all obstructions and provide good fortune.
The fixed element (lucky element) for your sign should be identified first. Then, using the Feng Shui Associations table above, determine the direction of your element's energy. Then, to increase your luck, employ the energy direction and the colour of your fortunate element.
For example,
Since the tiger is your zodiac sign, wood is your fortunate element. Because wood energy is in the east, it might be advantageous to face east. Your money, health, and lifespan may all be improved. Green is the colour connected with the Wood element, thus you may adorn your home's east side in green or place a green plant there to bring luck to yourself.
You may also add some water elements in the east to improve your luck since water creates wood according to the five elements producing cycle. For instance, a water-filled fish tank may be placed to the east of your home. In contrast, the overcoming cycle of the five elements advises against placing the Metal element towards the east. Similarly, avoid placing the Fire element towards the east since it would drain the energy of the Wood element.

I tried looking at other book cover graphic designers like Chipp Kidd and some multidisciplinary agencies like Jessica welsh. I really enjoy the side bar menu that situated on the left hand side of the website on Chip Kidd’s website. I like how his work is placed and how he only has relevant pieces displayed to visually portray his disciplinary area of work. I also looked at artists such as George Lios who is known for doing logos because I also have an interest in branding. Looking at different artists has made me seen how most have logos that are mainly type which is an approach I would like to take with my logo because it will be more open to anything. The only one that had a symbol logo was Jessica Welsh’s graphic agency that looks cursive and connects her fist letter of the name to the first letter of her last name. I think it’s really important to create a logo that’s based on the name you want people to know you by which is what I learned from doing this research. In my case, I want to only be known as Amalia because my surname ‘Girnet’ is quite had to remember and mispronounced by most. Although I would like to try and incorporate it.

My most recent artist research aims to reach a point of equilibrium emerging by putting side by side different languages, both purely visual and abstractly textual. A gaze that overlooks the purely semantic research and that achieve to overcome visual conventions to reach an higher, different, alternative meaning. Reconciling two dissonances – two seemingly incompatible opposites – to lead (the subject) into a state of an art that is purely mental so that it overcomes the conceptual for an “esthétique intellective” which essentially is alive in pure thought.

// there's an app for that calendar research \\
before designing the calendar for the app, I did a bit of research into digital calendars and how they are designed for the target audience -- simplicity seems key and lack of a grid is important for that. The circle over selected date also provides interaction.

There’s some really aggressive and really nasty people in the KH fandom when it comes to Sora or Riku being anything but straight. It’s…sad but really awful when they go to attack and send threats to queer shippers.
There’s a few queer RGG videos. However they share similar problems of the creator not knowing enough about topics/characters/etc, not expanding on stuff they really should, missing integral info, etc. One of these vids gave a very shallow reading to Kiryu of all people.
brother you coulda just stopped at 'really aggressive and really nasty people': its so perplexing how nasty they can get when KH is about friendship and loving and cherishing each other- though it is a disney property so i shouldnt be too surprised
oh word ?? again i aint ever seen these floatin round and i dont really go huntin for em. A for effort and all but its a shame the topics arent handled with greater care like they should be

Redbull published a 'blog' on 5 avatars of skateboarding in 2020. I think looking at this can help be informed on which disciplines are out there and which one is most popular. Currently as stated in this article, street skating is the most popular form of skating which evolved since new tricks have been invented by different skaters creating space for exploration and development in the skating community. Allowing skaters to creatively use street obstacles such as stairs, rails, ledges and almost anything that is possible to skate on. Leads to endless possibilities and advanced skills that can be learned and build over time.
I am looking at this because in order to form a decision I need to establish the kind of audience I am talking to and who am I designing for. This will make it clear n which path I need to follow and make it more niche rather than having a large board audience because then I won't be able to make clear and considered design decisions.
This research has lead me to realise that I should consider designing for street skaters and now I can look into the street skateboarding culture and inform my decisions.
