Leon tilted his head to the side as you sat on the couch, watching a very dramatic soap opera. You were dressed in your comfiest attire, favorite snack on your lap as you were practically glued to the screen. He got home maybe 15 minutes ago and you didn't even realize it. Was he concerned? A bit, but he couldn't blame you; what ever you were watching at him interested as well.

Not to mention, the slap the woman (he assumed was the lead) gave the man (he assumed was the love interest), was very dramatic to say the least. Leon hasn't slapped many people with his hand, but he's sure it wouldn't cause someone to almost lose their balance...unless they were drunk.

Was the male lead drunk?

"¡Ya era tiempo, perro!" (It's about time, you dog!)

Leon blinked a few times before shaking his head. "Is there a reason for the insult?"

You jump and turn your body away from the TV, now facing Leon. "How long have you been there?!"

He chuckles. "Long enough. Now tell me, was there a reason for the insult?"

"He sleeps around and she finally found out because her best friend asked if they were still a thing. She said yes, her best friend told her she saw him with other women. She confronted him for it, he denied it while smelling like another woman, so she slapped him."

Leon nods. "Sounds like he deserved it. Is it always this dramatic?"

"Yes. But that's the best part!"

He laughs, heads to the couch and plants a kiss on your cheek. "God, i love you."

You smile as he sits next to you. "I love you too."

"Are there English subtitles? I'll gladly watch this with you."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"English subtitles...?" His eyes darted around in confusion.

"Funny."

"It's a genuine question, sweetheart."

"Leon, no. Abuela would have a fit if she saw English subtitles."

"She's not here...is she?" He looks around in a panic, looking for your grandmother.

"She's not, but what if she does come one day, wants to watch her telenovela and sees English subtitles on the screen? Listen, my mom's chancla is powerful, but Abuela's aim is sharp. At least my mom misses sometimes."

His eyes widen. "She never misses?"

"Never."

"Oh."

"Wait, aren't you going to Spain next week?"

"Yeah?"

"Perfect! Time to get some Spanish in you!"

He blinks. "Why can't you teach me?"

"We've been dating for three years. You are literally impossible to teach. You only picked up nicknames, and, unsurprisingly, curse words. Maybe a telenovela will do you some good."

His jaw slacks as he gave you a playful glare. "Rude."

Steph (25):

Says her worst trait is her murderous rages (she is exaggerating for dramatic/comedic effect, she’s killed 3 people tops and for very good reason)

Thinks her worst trait is her spitefulness (one of the few traits she definitely got from her father + one that prevents her from fixing her relationships and living her best possible life. She’ll refuse to interact with someone she dearly loves after an argument (happens significantly less after Tim’s death) or will say things she knows are hurtful just for the sake of having the last word. This trait will worsen in some ways as the list of people who have wronged her and those she loves grows, but will also ease up as she matures and realizes the harm it’s doing to her relationships with those she loves most.)

Cass (26)

Says her worst trait is her self-righteousness (she believes that her goals are righteous and, as a result, she is righteous. Cass becomes very defensive whenever someone questions the mission and often does not second-guess herself. This is a trait she only develops later in life as she grows closer to Bruce/learns to understand herself more/starts to love herself more. But she knows she isn’t perfect and when somebody she trusts criticizes something she is doing she is willing to listen. She just usually isn’t the one to START the introspection.) 

Thinks her worst trait is her self-righteousness. 

Her worst trait actually is her obsessiveness (she gets it from Bruce and, while not as bad as him, she will easily become preoccupied with her night-life and the mission if someone isn’t there to pull her back. She will do this to the point of self-destruction and it hurts her relationships with the people she loves, especially Steph.)

Tim (24)

Says his worst trait is his spitefulness (he actively rejects the idea of mending his relationships with the older members of the family and this causes him to also lack good relationships with the younger ones)

Thinks his worst trait is his obsessiveness (similar to Cass, if he gets fixated on a task or idea he will neglect everything else in his life in order to dedicate more time to it. Unlike Cass, he will almost never be dragged away from it unless Pierrot snatches control of the body and forces them to take care of themself.)

His worst trait actually is how manipulative he is (the KING of guilt-tripping and using people’s emotions against them. He’ll do whatever he needs to do to get what he wants, he’s not above crocodile tears. And he will do it to whoever he needs (or wants) to with little care for how his actions impact others.)

Pierrot (Insists: “Age doesn’t apply to me! And even if it did, I'd probably be the oldest. Or the youngest! I’d never be a middle child, though.” Mental assessments by the Bats have put him around 21, with a margin of error of 3 years. Pierrot has called this “blatant character assassination by my eternal rival!”)

Says his worst trait is that he is an irredeemable psychopath without any regard for the wellbeing of others (this is a lie and everyone who's important to him understands this). 

Thinks his worst trait is his parasitic nature (he literally would not exist had Tim not suffered the way he did. Plus he is a living reminder of one of the worst things that happened to many of his loved ones. He is a parasite injected into a functional person's body and contributes to his continued suffering. This is also a largely incorrect judgement of himself, caused by his actual worst trait.)

His worst trait actually is his limited sense of self (he doesn’t really know who he is outside of ‘inheritor to the legacy of the Joker (a man he despises yet also views as a father)’ and ‘chip in Tim’s brain that became sentient’. He slowly develops an identity over the course of his life and relationships with other people, but he lacks the foundations of identity that most people have. Pierrot will often almost become a caricature of himself and what others perceive him to be because it's the only person he knows how to be. This causes wild swings in how he behaves and relates to others, sometimes to the detriment of himself and others.)

Dick (17) 

Says his worst trait is his clinginess (he is a very extraverted person who likes to be around others, which mixed with his fear of abandonment after his parents died means that if he goes a few days without seeing/talking to a friend he will get very anxious.)

Thinks his worst trait is his anger issues (he gets ticked off very easily and will explode on people. He’s kind at his core and is usually very nice, but he has a temper that can escalate significantly. Spoiler (and later Twist) help him channel this anger into something positive.)

Barbara (18)

Says her worst trait is her disability (internalized ableism, she thinks of herself as less valuable than the other Bats because she cannot be out there in the capes like they can. She will grow out of this as she matures and as she learns how invaluable her support for the team is.)

Her worst trait actually is her overly-independent nature (In an attempt to overcompensate for everything she can no longer do, she has resolved to do literally everything that she possibly can without any help from others. This results in many instances where she either takes on too much and winds up not being able to fully realize any of her tasks or where she makes her life and the lives of others significantly harder by refusing help when offered/not asking for it when she needs it.)

Damian (16)

Says his worst trait is his perfectionism (he is overly critical of both himself and others, taking any flaw or problem and amplifying it to an absurd degree. This is due in part to his life with the LoA (where even a brief misstep could lead to death), in part to how others treated him initially as Spoiler (any flaw was fixated on and used as a reason to either mistrust him or portray him as unworthy of the mantle), and in part due to the fact that he is Bruce’s son (the only person with worse perfectionism problems than Damian). Gradually, Damian has improved in this regard but it’s still a massive barrier to both his own happiness and his relationships with others.)

Thinks his worst trait is his impulsivity in his words (Sometimes he will crack a joke or say a remark without thinking it through, leading to a LOT of hurt feelings and drama. He’ll say something without thinking it through and wind up seeming insensitive. This isn’t done because of malice, rather because Duke is someone who’s quick to act and speak. But while the mantle of Insight and his awakening powers have helped him with his actions, they do not always help with his loose tongue. As such, Duke gains an unfair reputation in the media as an instigator and will accidentally cause family drama through what he says.)

Jason (14)

Says his worst trait is his bad manners (he grew up on the streets and has no idea how rich-people society works, which he’s pretty insecure about considering he’s now the youngest kid of Bruce freaking Wayne). 

Thinks his worst trait is his reactiveness (Jason never got the privilege of planning ahead for various events in his life, so he instead needed to rely on being swift and harsh in how he could react to situations. It’s saved his life on multiple occasions and helps significantly in his role as Spoiler, but it can also lead to extreme overreactions (accidentally causing kidnapping scare after Jason ran away following a fight with Dick) and a struggle to plan things out ahead of time. As he grows more secure in his place in the family and in life, this trait will lessen but never fully dissipate.)

#personal #even hazel being like ‘yeah he’s hard to get along with’ or whatever she said #every single non-tartarus perspective has had at least one reference to this #and like i understand the reasons it’s not that it’s that it highlights this issue i have with a lot of the characters in that series which #is that i don’t like them. and that’s so different for me bc i actually usually find that my two favorite characters in anything are the tw #that don’t like each other? unrelated to that dynamic usually mostly but still within it #but that’s not even what the dynamic is yk. #and it’s just the whole thing overall like in the last book there was one part where these two characters who are supposed to be good #friends are separated and one makes a comment about how annoying (or something along those lines) she finds the other which. #i’m vaguely aware of what happens in toa so i think you could argue something about that but read on its own bc i don’t want to make that #argument without fully grasping where her character goes #it just kinda reinforces this… vibe to the whole series that was not nearly as present in the first series of like. really overemphasized #like gender roles/heterosexuality/etc. i can’t think of the word to use to describe it. i’ve seen other ppl talk about the parts that add u #to the whole that i’ve seen but never synthesize them. and it really varies between actually insidious and simply not my taste which is par #of the reason i hesitate to make a full critique out of it. but suffice to say i really don’t like it #with that being said the pacing of this book is really good and i am compelled to finish based on the themes i do find interesting #autonomy being a huge one #but anyway those are my thoughts on it after a few days of a break. i’ve been playing a video game instead :3 but i start work on wednesday #sooo i won’t have as much free time boo #looking back maybe ‘insidious’ is a very strong word for it. i’m talking about like when percy complains about the bag and similar moments

went to toronto again for new years weekend and spent pretty much the entire time hanging out with paul bellini which included us rewatching a bunch of episodes from kith s4 during dinner on new years eve. and y'know the second best thing about watching kids in the hall with paul bellini is getting to hear a bunch of behind-the-scenes backstory about the inspiration for sketches, previous versions that never saw the light of day, , etc. but the actual best thing about watching kids in the hall with paul bellini is when an entire sketch will play without comment and at the very end he goes "the fuck was that?"

#i already sent a similar thing to the kith discord like right after this happened but i can't stop thinking about it that was so funny #the specific sketch he was reacting to was mark's monologue about having no sex appeal #(paul had completely forgotten that one bc he didn't write it and he wasn't even there the day it was filmed) #we were specifically watching s4 bc he's seen seasons 1-3 fairly recently but s4 he's less familiar with #partially bc he and scott spent so much of the year working on chalet 2000 #but yeah i'll do a full end of the year post as soon as i get the rest of the pics from hanging out at bellini's apartment on new years eve #but yeah this weekend was so fucking good. like we've really come full circle #from the days when i'd joke on here that ''paul bellini is my bestie'' bc he replied to my comment once #bc now i genuinely consider him one of my closest friends and it seems like he sees me that way too #like just the fact that we were hanging out all day both days i was in town even if it was just like running errands together #and any time someone called him he'd make sure to mention ''jessamine's here!'' and he sounded so happy about that #and we watched the video of my standup final together which i used to cringe at just bc i low key bombed in front of the second audience #like i think the performance itself was great the audience just wasn't giving me any reaction #but even tho paul had clearly watched that video multiple times he was still laughing at a lot of it #and making sure to note whenever he genuinely thought i had a great joke which was often #so now i have a completely different association with that set bc i got to see bellini enjoy it #i don't have a specific favorite kith member (i know it seems like it's obviously scott but i love them all for different reasons) #and it's also complicated by knowing some of them irl bc my relationship to each of them is so different and great in their own ways #but yeah there's something so special about my friendship with bellini #i'm so excited to move to toronto full time next year bc i already know i'm probably coming over to paul's for dinner at least once a week

20 years too late but I’m finally watching Hunter x Hunter. Just got through the exam arc and really hoping to see the opening actually happen.

Well, my trips to four different stores did not net me a new snow shovel with the ideal handle that I like the best, but I decided that today didn't have to be a bad day and bought myself Engage.

It is actually so gorgeous, and very fun (despite my still being in the early tutorial hell bits), and I like the music direction so far.

I may post general thoughts/impressions, but any spoilers will be under read more cuts, and I still don't plan to start reblogging anything in earnest for a while.

#I made it a grand total of uh... #5 days before being too intrigued to not buy it #my understanding is there is only one path so I should be able to actually finish it within a month hopefully #and I've already made it past the FE-required parental death so that's like two or three chapters already finished #RIP my reading list I swear I will finish those books on my shelf before the end of the year maybe hopefully #as for the rest of the winter I've resigned myself to using one of the snow shovels w/ the handles I don't like #(aka all our other shovels) #but I'm still miffed my dad got rid of my favorite shovel like he did that to my last shovel as well #unfortunately the stores stop selling a wide array of shovels after fall for whatever reason #like there's already spring/summer stuff in most of the stores #very little winter gear #absolutely phenomenal honestly #but very in-character for the local retailers #anyhow I'm trying not to let the shovel thing get to me #lots of other good things happened today and the past couple of days so...yeah... #oracle of lore
