09/05/2023-Lakeside and home
Pictures taken in this set today are of: 1. A boisterous band of Starlings in the buddleia bush which it was a delight to observe. 2. Spider I believe zebra jumping spider in the landing. 3, 5 and 7. Views on lunch time and evening walks at Lakeside including nice sky scenes on a changeable weather day. 4. Speedwell in the bowl at Lakeside I saw speedwell well on my lunch time walk generally. 6. Greylag Geese and goslings at Lakeside at lunch time. 8 and 9. A delightful and pretty Small Copper it was a joy to see at Lakeside this evening in the bowl, always a top butterfly to see at Lakeside especially early in the season. 10. Yellow iris at Lakeside at lunch time, among my first of the year one I always enjoy seeing as we really get into spring a symbolic flower of the season.
Also today I enjoyed Grey Heron flying over at Lakeside this evening, Canada Goose goslings, House Sparrows including one on a reed nicely, great views of male and female Blackbird including the former singing, Collared Dove, a closer view of the terrapin, Small White butterflies at Lakeside and on the way, a moth and a spider with Chiffchaff heard this evening. I was very happy to see two Great Crested Grebes on a nest on Concorde lake as after the brilliant courtship season I enjoyed a couple of months ago possibly not helped by the weather bringing high water levels I hadn’t seen too much action with nests I am sure there are some well hidden but it was nice to see one. Vetch, green alkanet, garlic mustard, cow parsley, crane’s-bill and bluebells were other nice flowers to see at Lakeside. At home today it was brilliant to hear Green Woodpecker and Blackbird singing, with Goldfinch, courting Woodpigeon and Collared Dove seen well from home and like Jackdaw yesterday a quite rare sight of Magpie in the garden.
