Greylag Goose (anser anser)
Homosexual pairs are common in Greylag Geese, and and share the characteristics of heterosexual pairs except for the fact that their bond appears to be closer, based on the intensity of their displays. These pairs often assume high-ranking positions in the flock for their superior strength and courage, causing speculation that they may serve as guardians of the flock.
Photos taken in this set today are of; beautiful views of bubbling buds and blossom on a wet lunch time walk at Lakeside, some splendid mercury in the woods at Lakeside, a wet Woodpigeon out the back and Great Tit, Great Crested Grebe and Greylag Geese at Lakeside. It was smashing to see a Great Spotted Woodpecker well in the woods at Lakeside and other highlights today were Starlings in the garden, Blue Tit, Moorhen, nice views of Jackdaws at Lakeside, Carrion Crow out the back, Magpie, beautiful lesser celandine, daffodils, daisies and bee.
Today, I wanted to mention to you my “how to” video from last month, on painting with stationery and household suppliers:

I want art to be accessible for everyone to have a go at and the cost of art materials can be a barrier to some, so I thought I’d see how far I could get just using watercolour paper, and no other artist’s materials.
The paintings of the greylag geese are available printed on all sorts of lovely things at:
I’m trying to get better at adding alt-text to my images, I tend to ramble a lot and I get nervous about people reading words I’ve written but I really want to improve so my work can be accessible to everyone! I’d love any and all feedback ☺️
Males in homosexual pairs of Greylag Geese, Laughing Gulls, Humboldt Penguins, and Flamingos sometimes engage in "promiscuous" copulations with birds (male or female) other than their mate (heterosexual pairs in these species are also sometimes nonmonogamous).

Photos taken in this set are of; Herring Gull which I enjoyed seeing at Lakeside, lesser celandine a beautiful flower it was great to see in the wooded areas at Lakeside they have a way of looking golden even when there's not much sun on them and they're a delightful, hopeful and colourful sight of early spring, beautiful views on walks at Lakeside including as the sun lowered on a smashing evening walk today, rainbow out the back this morning, a group of Greylag Geese at Lakeside, mini daffodils and pretty cuckoo-pint leaves and ivy. Other highlights at Lakeside today were the immersive sight and sound of eccentric Ring-necked Parakeets flying over to roost this evening always a nice sight at this time of day it's been a while since I've seen any, Feral Pigeon, Blackbird seen well on the evening walk, Canada Geese, Moorhen, Great Crested Grebe and bright red stinking iris berries. It was thrilling to see a Sparrowhawk swooping off a roof and in flight from home today as well as Jackdaw, Goldfinch, Starling and daffodils in the garden.
