Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing : Yoosung Kim x reader
Warnings : n/a (mention of rikas death ig?)
A/n : i actually took my time :') (1 week+) hope you enjoy this tho!! Btw you are NOT the mc and instead a college friend of yoosung.
Tumblr media
COLLEGE was rather… Stressful to say the least, with you entering one of the best universities out in Korea you expected yourself to always do good in your studies and that is what you did. Though, you didn't expect yourself to befriend one of your classmates who didn't really enjoy studying as much which really made you wonder how he even got into SKY University perhaps by luck? But yet you heard that Yoosung got in with a scholarship and is going to be working for the corporate heir Jumin Han, of course silently you did envy him after all being on C&R's waiting list could only be achieved in your dreams..
You didn't expect to be dying your hair on the weekends where you could be studying for upcoming exams, well you didn't really have any choice with Yoosung's constant pleas. You both decided to dye your hair together since Yoosung's hair colour was fading as well,though your parents wouldn't have allowed you to dye your hair they aren't here to nag at you! So why not just live your life without the eyes of your parents?
You were lucky enough to convince your parents to pay for your tuition fees, after all you were a grown adult and should be finding a job instead of asking your parents for money. Though they did pay a crazy amount to get you in here, you still felt guilty for them spending so much on you.
Yoosung's voice awoken your train of thoughts before your vision cleared as you saw Yoosung snapping his fingers in front of you with a worried face.
"are you okay? You don't look too good.. I didn't put any hair dye on your eyes right!?!"
You shook your head before a calm smile on your face as both of you waited for your hair dye to dry, you weren't one for small chatter and often it was Yoosung who started conversations between you both though it was silent between you both it wasn't awkward at all and instead it just added to the calm atmosphere.
"So, how is RFA doing..? Do you perhaps plan on holding another party soon?"
You always refrained from talking about anything related to RFA after hearing that Yoosung's cousin had sadly passed away, comfort wasn't your strong suit but yet you still try and gave him encouraging words. Though you always wanted to attend a party held by the RFA and even if you got the chance, you knew it might clash with your studies after all you had always placed studies above all even when you were in high school. You never really went to parties, instead you were always cooped up in your own room reading or studying you technically weren't a loner. You still had friends but they weren't really in your inner circle and you only interacted with them when it was lunch.
You looked over to see Yoosung ranting about the new member of RFA with stars in his eyes, unknowingly a small smile dawned on your face for some reason your heart was slightly warm perhaps not used to this feeling of someone actually wanting to talk to you though you won't deny it isn't a good feeling.. You had always found yourself smiling and enjoying whenever Yoosung rants about his day or his games, was this what your books.. Call a crush?

Reader x Jumin oneshot where the reader is Yoosung’s second cousin and came to visit him from America?
Tumblr media
Yoosung was ecstatic.
You were coming to visit!!!
He remembers when it was just him, Rika, and you against the world. People called you three the Cinnamon Bun trio. Because the three of you were always so sweet, kind, and loving.
It wasn't the same when your family moved to America during your third year of high school. You were 2 years older than Yoosung and always acted mature for your age.
He would always go to your for advice or for help in his studies. You were really smart and explained things in an easier to understand method. He missed you a lot...
You were gone across the world and then he lost Rika 3 years after...It was hard.
But! You were coming back to visit and this time it wasn't because of a family death!
He wanted you to have fun and maybe he could convince you to move back here in South Korea!
He blew up an air mattress (that he would sleep on and you can take the much more comfy bed. You were a guest afterall). Then, he spent the days cleaning his home from top to bottom. It was a deep clean he had never done before...after all the disgusting things he saw...maybe he should do deep cleaning more often...😖😖😖 He even went grocery shopping and bought actually ingredients for real food. Wow. He had gotten a temporary part time job so he could afford all the extra items he got for your stay here. He even got a few cheap home decor he thought you'd like to make the house look nice.
You were an important guest.
He was so busy doing all his chores and working (and studying sleeping in school) that he hadn't even logged into the messanger for a week.
He stared at his home in awe. It was like he was in a different apartment. As he was about to finally relax, his doorbell rang frantically. He groaned in annoyance and got up.
"Why are they ringing so much? Hold on please I'm opening the door!" Yoosung called out and thankfully the knocker stopped.
He had barely opened the door before a frantic Zen rushed in.
"Yoosung! Where have you been?! You haven't been responding to our calls or texts and haven't logged into the Messanger. We were all worried sick!!!"
"Ooowww." Yoosung rubbed his check where the door slapped him the face. "What do you mean? I'm perfectly fine. I've just been busy working and making the house look nice."
Zen looked at Yoosung in surprise. "Oh. You mean that place you were hired at 4 months ago. I thought you would've quit by now..." Zen muttered to himself.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!"
"It means that we were waiting for you to get tired and quit like you always do."
Yoosung's eyebrow twitched. He was going to quit on the day he was going to pick you up so he can collect his last check and spend more time with you. But now he just wanted to stay to prove a point.
...
Nah. He was still going to quit.
"I just needed money to get (Y/N) some stuff. They are going to be here in 2 days so I wanted to make the house spotless. Didn't mean to ghost you guys."
"(Y/N)? Who's that?" Then Zen gasped and pulled Yoosung into a headlock. "Wait! Did you do all this to impress someone? Are they your girl/boyfriend?" After seeing his friend was okay, he was relived and was now calmer and more playful.
"Ack! No way! (Y/N) is my second cousin. Don't you remember? You may have never met them but they were a big part of Rika and I's childhood! Anyway, their going to stay here for 2 weeks and I wanted to make the house more comfortable for them to stay in. Maybe I can convince then to come back home and live here again." By now Yoosung and Zen were sitting on the couch. Zen now more relieved since his friend was okay.
"Oh! Yeah I remember! The one who moved to America, right?"
"Yup! That's them! I can't wait to see them I haven't seen them since...since a few weeks after Rika's funeral...I remember how upset they were when they wasn't able to attend the funeral...It wasn't their fault since they were really sick and had to be hospitalized...At least they ended up okay..." Yoosung paused in a moment of sadness. Zen frowned and remembered what Yoosung had said before.
"Wait. Did you say you wanted to convince them to move back here? Are they looking for a new house or something?" He had quickly changed the subject.
"Oh! No they're not currently looking to move...But I feel like I can totally convince them!" Yoosung brightened up. For a moment Zen stared at him in confusion.
"But don't they have a life and a job back in America? Moving suddenly is a little rash, don't you think? Plus what if they like living there? They might not want to move." Zen tried to reason with him.
"Well, I think they will be more happy here! All I have to show them is how great Korea is! Once they remember, they will definitely want to come back. My plan is foolproof!"
Zen wanted to say something, but after a week of worrying, he knew if he continued it would result in a fight and didn't want to get in an argument right now. He knew how Yoosung was.
So he left it alone for now.
Zen entered the chatroom.
Yoosung entered the chatroom.
Jaehee entered the chatroom.
Jumin entered the chatroom.
707 entered the chatroom.
Yoosung
Guys!!!
Guys!!!
They are almost here!!! I can't wait!!!
Just wait til you guys meet them!!!
I guarantee you'll love them!!!
Jaehee
Yooosung...
I know you are excited to see your cousin...
However...
You have been talking about it nonstop for the past 2 days.
Please.
Stop.
Jumin
I agree.
It's gotten annoying.
707
*Laugh emoji*
Looks like Jaehee has had enough.
Quick!!!
Yoosung keep talking about your cousin!!!
Let's see how mad she can get.
*Pulling down glasses emoji*
Jaehee
*Angry emoji*
Luciel.
Trust me.
You do NOT want to see me anygry.
707
*Scared emoji*
Yoosung!!!
Run!!!
She's out for blood!!!
Yoosung
Ack!!!
Sorry!!!
I'm just excited....
Zen
We understand your excitement, Yoosung.
And truly we can't wait to meet them either.
However
You don't have to announce it everytime you log into the chat...
*Sighing emoji*
Yoosung
Okay...
Got it.
*Crying Emoji*
Oh!!!
By the way Jumin.
Thanks for preparing a ride for us. I'm glad (Y/N) doesn't need to take a taxi.
I prepared a sign so they can find me.
*Sends picture of a colorful, poorly drawn sign saying, "(Y/F/N), welcome back home!!!" It was covered in stickers of some of your favorite things.*
Jaehee
...
Jumin
???
Zen
*Sweatdropping emoji*
...
What does it even say???
Geez, Yoosung.
Did a rainbow puke all over your sign? It's way too colorful.
And I don't mean that in a good way.
707
Lololololololol!!!
They probably won't be able to read the sign with Yoosung's awful handwriting.
Jaehee
Uhm, well it is very...unique
Jumin
Unique is one way to describe it.
I believe the more appropriate term is messy and unorganized.
Yoosung
*Crying Emoji*
Aw, come one guys!
I worked hard on this all night!
Zen
...
Maybe you should have worked a little bit harder...
707
Lololololololol!!!
Yoosung
*Frustrated emoji*
Who cares what you all think!? (Y/N) is going to love it. I put stickers of all their favorite things.
Oh!!!
They're here!!!
I see them I gotta go!!!
Yoosung has left the chat.
Yoosung turned off the Messanger and called out your name. It was hard to hear over the crowd of people, but someone you managed and walked in his direction.
"Yoosung!!!" You glomped him into a hug.
"(Y/N)!!! You made it!!! Do you like the sign I made you.?!" He held it up and you could see the blur of colors mixing in with each other and with the stickers...What does it even say?
You chuckled nervously. "Yeah...I love it. So cool!!!" Yoosung beamed.
"See!!! I knew you'd love it!!!" He grabbed you luggage. "Wait til you see my home!!"
Three and a half hours had passed since Yooosung picked you up and brought you home. You were suprised about the fact that you were in an expensive company car with his own driver. His friends must really be rich...
It was still early in the day. Everything was unpacked and you had settled in. You were tired, but wanted to spend time with Yoosung. You'll have time to sleep when it gets nightime.
Plus you were going to meet his friends soon, so you out on a nice, casual outfit. Gotta dress to impress.
Despite the jet lag, you were having a fun time hanging out with Yoosung's friends. Even V tagged along when he heard you were coming. It was nice to see him and Yoosung again. It was weird without Rika being there...
Jaehee was nice to talk to. You felt that you could become gal pals once you gotten to know each other better. Zen was a bit of a flirt, but he it was interesting to hear about his acting career. Jaehee and Zen both recommended you watch certain plays. You might watch it with Jaehee together some time. Zen was a bit embarrassed about watching his old plays. Seven was a hilariously interesting character. He had you crying laughing by the end of the night. You two were definitely going to pull pranks on the other members with each other. Mostly Yoosung, since he was so gullible.
You, V, and Yoosung caught you on everything that had happened since you last saw them. It was nice to catch up. You were sad that Yoosung and V's friendship had gotten so tense. Yoosung was so hurt over Rika and lost his trust in V...You wish things could be like they were before. But the past is long gone. Still, despite having to constantly stop Yoosung from arguing with V, it was nice to spend time with them again. You had missed this.
You and Jumin really hit it off the most. Since you were already a good friend of V and Rika/Yoosung's cousin he wasn't as closed off as he usually was when meeting new people. (When V heard you were coming, he may have talked you up to Jumin. So Jumin had heard some things about you from him allowing him to understand a bit of the kind of person you were).
Jumin was suprised at how easily you got him to open up to you. This was your first time meeting and within the hours you interacted, he felt like he was meeting up with an old friend. He didn't know why, but he felt comfortable with you.
The next 2 weeks went by in a flash. During that time, you grew closer to all the RFA members, specifically Jumin.
You'd visit C&R when Yoosung was in school. (You had to force him to go for the sake of his future). You would hang out with Jaehee and Jumin when they weren't busy. You would help Jaehee do her work sometimes. (Even though she said it wasn't necessary). You worked so efficiently and effectively that Jumin started to consider hiring you. Jaehee was grateful to get a small break.
It wasn't a surprise when they asked you to become a part of the RFA. V suggested that you take over Rika's position. Since you were just as good, if not better, at communicating with people. You were apprehensive at first due to the fact that you dearly missed Rika and didn't want to be a replacement for her. You didn't think you could do her job justice. But the others members, especially Yoosung, were encouraging and convincing. So. You were now a member of the RFA.
You were currently in Jumin's office waiting for him to return for a meeting. You were leaving tomorrow afternoon and wanted to hang out with Jumin before you left.
You heart fluttered at the thought of the raven-haired male. You had developed feelings for him and while you wanted to confess, you were way too nervous. His the rich business owner of C&R. Surely he had women and men falling at his feet. He'd never go for a normal, boring person such as yourself.
You sighed sadly with you face contorted in frustration and disappointment.
"(Y/N)? Is everthing alright? Your sigh was a bit sad." You jumped when Jaehee inquired about your well-being.
"Jaehee! Oh. You scared me." You hand was over your racing heart.
"Oh, my apologies. I did not mean to frighten you." Jaehee tilted her head in question. "Are you alright. From what I've observed over the past 2 weeks is that you're usually in high spirits or cheery. However, right now you're quiet gloomy."
"A-ah!!!" You turned away from her embarrassed. "You are very...observant Jaehee. But don't worry too much." You waved your dominant hand at her in dismissal. "I'm fine, I'm just sad to leave you all tomorrow. Yoosung's been trying really hard to convince me to stay. But...you know how it is. Trying to find a decent apartment anywhere as well as a new job is such a hassle. Ha haaa..." you chuckled nervously.
"Ah, yes. I understand. I, too, am sad to see you go. However, we still have the Messanger! So you can call us or chat with us anytime!"
"Of course!" You smiled at her.
"Ah, (Y/N). Welcome back. I'm assuming you managed to force Yoosung to go to his classes today?." Jumin walked in and you immediately brightened up.
"Hahaha. Yeeeah. He was trying to skip his calculus test today. I told him I'd buy him dinner at his favorite restaurant if he went." You sighed. "Honestly, what am I going to do with him? I had to teach him how to make quick and easy food recipes. Did you know he has been surviving off of ramen noodles and water?"
"I knew Yoosung had some bad eating habits, but I didn't realize it was that bad. I'm aware of Seven's though. Dr. Pepper and Honey Budda Chips...But because none of us knows where he lives, we can't exactly force him to eat better." Jumin shook his head.
As you two were engaged in your conversation, you didn't notice Jaehee look between the two of you with a knowing smile. She hoped you both happiness with each other. (Plus, you tell Jumin not to over work Jaehee and lately she has been able to take breaks during work and go home earlier to relax. She appreciates you). Jaehee slipped out of the room to give you privacy.
You hadn't notice time flying by as you chatted and helped him with some work related tasks. Being with him was nice. When you looked into his shining eyes, you know you were doomed to fall in love.
Later that night, you sat on the balcony of the hotel you were staying at for the night. You had wanted to visit you home city before you left. However, it was six hours away. Jumin, wanting to make you happy, flew everyone there in his private helicopter. (You and Yoosung were so excited as you'd never been in one before). You felt bad for Zen though. He had gotten airsick.
After guiding them through the city and having a delicious meal it had gotten late. So Jumin suggested for everyone to stay at C&R's local hotel for the night and fly back tomorrow morning. So here you were in the penthouse balcony silently crying and sniffling.
You didn't want to go back.
"(Y/N)?"
You gasped and spun around so quickly that it made you dizzy. Jumin had fast reflexes so he grabbed you so you wouldn't fall.
"Th-Thank you." You blushed and glanced away from him, while quickly wiping your tears. You couldn't look him in the eye due to your embarrassment of getting caught crying.
"So Jumin, Wh-what brings you out here so late? Everyone else is sleeping. Why aren't you?"
"I could ask you the same thing." He wiped a stray tear away. "Why are you crying? You're not hurt, are you? Did one of the employees make you upset? If so, just tell me their name and I will have them fired."
You couldn't help but laugh at that.
"No no. It's nothing like that. I just-" you cut yourself off. You didn't want to say.
"You just what, (Y/N). It's alright. You can tell me. If you're worried about judgement, I assure you I won't think less of you. We can keep this just between us. After all, I care for you dearly and I would never harm you." Jumin boldly took your hand and kissed the back of it. You couldn't help it as your blush darkened.
"I-I...W-Well you see...I..." you shyly glanced up to witness his gentle, caring expression. He was still holding your hand and was now rubbing circles. Slowly, you moved your hands so they were now cupping the hand he held took hand with. Feeling brave, you guided your closed hands to your forehead as you looked down at the floor. "I don't want to go home..."
You haven't even told Yoosung this, you weren't planning to tell anyone out of embarrassment and shame. Yet, you felt so comfortable with Jumin. Everything just came spilling out.
"I was fired from my job as an account. The job may have been frustrating and annoying, but it paid really good money. I-I didn't even do anything wrong! My boss was just so...so...so awful! They would constantly harass me and shamelessly flirt with me when no one was watching. When I finally reported them, it turned out that they were friends with HR and together they turned it around on me. I got fired for 'putting a false charge on my boss' and got ridiculed for it. No one would believe me. I've spent months trying to find a new job, but no one would hire me because of my last job. I've been having to do odd jobs to make money a-and pull out of my savings to pay the Bill's. I even had to sell some of my belongings! I don't know what to do! The reason I came here was because I just needed to get away. I didn't want to tell anyone because it's just so frustrating and I didn't want you thinking less of me for being so weak. I don't...I don't know what I'm supposed to do now..."
You sniffled as you trembled and cried. It wasn't fair. What did you do to deserve this? Was Jumin going to believe you? Or would he call you a liar too?
You hadn't expected him to pull you into a hug and stroke your head. You were stiff as first before your lips trembled and you buried your face in his shoulder and squeezed him. He let you cry out your frustrations.
Once you had finally calmed down, you used your long sleeve pajamas to wipe your face of snot and tears. It was disgusting, but you were to upset to care.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to just cry like that." You sniffed. "And I got your pajama shirt all wet. I'm sorry."
"There's no need to apologize. I can tell you've been stressed for quite some time. What your boss did was unacceptable and you ended up paying the price. I assure you, he will not he getting away with this. What is his name and where does he work?" Jumin pulled out his phone was about to call someone before you stopped him.
"A-ah please don't! I just want to forget about it. There is nothing that can be done anyway. Let's just please drop it."
"(Y/N). What your boss did was not okay. Because of him, you suffered for months. I-" You placed a finger on his lips to stop him.
"Hey. I know you're trying to help and I am really glad you believe me. I just...I don't want to think about it anymore. I want to move on with my life and just find a good job and a new home. So please...forget about it...for me?"
Jumin studied you for a moment. He could tell you were clearly upset. For your sake, he would stop talking about it. However, that doesn't mean he won't ask Luciel to find dirt on your old boss and make them pay.
"Very well. If you insist." He put his phone in his pocket. "Allow me to offer up a suggestion then. You can work for me along side Jaehee as my secondary assistant. It pays good money and it would allow both Jaehee and myself with less work. Since you are a born citizen of Korea, I see no trouble in you moving back here and finding a home. I understand you have stuff at home, so I can hire a trusted moving company to pack and ship your belongings here. You don't have to go home if you do not wish. I'd have no problem with you staying in home. Elizabeth the 3rd has taken quite a liking to you so she'd have no problem with it. What do you say, (Y/N)? Will that work for you?"
"Yes...okay...Th-that would be wonderful... Thank you...thank you so much!" You pulled him to your lips and kissed him in pure happiness without thinking. But then you realized what you did and pulled away. "Ah!!! I'm so sorry!!! I don't know what came over me!!! I just-"
You were stunned. Was it really that simple? No it couldn't be that easy...But...looking into Jumin's eyes, you could tell he was serious. Maybe he could do it. You wouldn't know unless you gave it a shot.
Jumin silenced you by wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you back in. The kiss was sweet and gentle. You both held each other and poured all your emotions out. You both had wanted to do this for the past few days and now that it was happening, you cherished the moment.
"Hey (Y/N)? Are you in her-WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY COUSIN?!?!?!"

Yoosung, you have to take your calculus test.

DON'T make her regret it.

Yoosung
The boss deserved it!!!
So good rinse!!!
You sighed to yourself.
You should have known he would've done something like that. He was you boyfriend afterall.
You glanced over at him through the meeting room glass.
As you two locked eyes, he flashed you that breathtaking smirk. You gently smiled and waved back at him.
You were so in love with him. You were glad you got fired, because now you have an even better job with the man you love.
And you wouldn't have it any other way.

Hey Liv, how are you?
I’ve been feeling a little down lately, so I wanted to request a scenario with Yoosung, where he takes the initiative, slowly heating things up with MC... (Pre-dating,, or really new in the relationship if possible <3)
Please ignore it if you don’t feel like doing it!! Thank you so so much in advance 💐❤️
Yoosung X Reader
Spicy SFW, 16+ only
Tumblr media
Im really sorry you're not feeling the best, hun. If you need anything im here <3
Personally im not vibing myself, but writing this was really nice, so thank you for the request
Tumblr media
If Yoosung Kim was a font, he would be Calibri. Typical, not bold, not quite fancy enough to be a serif font. He was the default, the basic, the font you use when your essay is due in forty minutes and you don’t have time to bother with formatting. He wasn’t special.
    Maybe he wasn’t special, but he was a mess. He lived in his tiny apartment, rarely cooked a proper meal, wasting his life away playing a video game. His life was moving in slow motion, purpose lacking after the death of his cousin. He missed her.
 She would be Playfair Display, if she was a font. She was elegant, perfect, and beautiful. She was the kind of font you picked if you had done the essay days before it was due and wanted to look beautiful, the font an extension of elegant ideas.
Fonts. . . why was he so caught up on fonts? He had an essay due. That's why he was in the computer lab between classes, trying to write an essay. He didn’t have much time, but he had to write this essay. But, he was so caught up on the fonts. He couldn’t pick one, couldn't settle on one. It was a such an arbitrary decision, the font won't save his essay, won't save his grade, won't pick his major, won't fix his life, it wouldn’t bring her back, it wouldn't make V stop lying-
Tears pricked up at the edges of his eyes, threatening to pour over. He sniffled, rubbing his face with his sleeve. It was midnight, the school computer lab was only going to be open for a few more hours, but Yoosung knew if he didn’t write this essay now he would never right it, and if he never wrote it he would fail again, and Jumin and Jaehee would pressure him about the future, and Jumin would call his mom again, and Yoosung would fail college, and he would never have a future because there isn’t a future in gaming.-
“Times New Roman.”
Yoosung spun his head around, unaware that you had been standing behind him. “The assignment is supposed to be in Times New Roman- you are from my 10am philosophy class, right?”
Having a better view of you now, he did faintly remember you. He had attended class sporadically, not having much interest in it when he was there. You sat towards the front of the class, he had only seen you a handful of times from his seat in the back.
He nodded, “Yea… I’m not really sure what I’ll write about. I haven't really paid much attention.” A small blush crept over his face as he played with his fingers, embarrassed.
“I figured as much, you aren’t there very often. Do you need help? We have a few hours before the computer lab closes.”
Yoosung looked up at you, basking in the warmth of your smile. If you were a font, you would have been Indie Flower. He didn’t know you that well yet but he knew you were soft, you were kind, you were cute. He nodded. “Honestly, yea I think I do.” Yoosung gulped, realizing he had the chance to be bold, to be something. “Do you accept payment in food?”
And so there the two of you were, sitting on the computer lab floor, boxes of takeout scattered on the floor around you. He watched as your smile somehow grew even brighter as your laughed, nose scrunched up. He didn’t realize how funny he was, he was just telling you about the one time Saeyoung convinced him that he had to drink chocolate milk after he had all that coffee.
“I’m sorry to laugh, I can’t imagine how awful that was.”
He giggled nervously. “Yea- yea it was pretty bad.”
Your eyes landed on his. You had been here with him for a few hours now, but had yet to make the realization that his eyes were a soft lavender color. You noticed the deep brown roots springing up in his blonde hair. His lashes were long and curled at the ends.
Yoosung was very much aware of how close you were to him now. You had leaned in closer to him subconsciously, observing him. His face was warm, palms a little sweaty.
“You bleach your hair.”
Yoosung blinked. “I always liked blond hair. My family is blonde.
You nodded. “I think its pretty. You're pretty, Yoosung.”
And like that, he kissed you. He didn’t think about it, he just did it. His lips were soft, he tasted like the sweet and sour chicken he had for dinner, but you didn’t mind. Your hands held onto the collar of his shirt, his hands resting on your waste. The kiss, innocent and pure, ended almost as soon as it started. He pulled away from you, face red with embarrassment, eyes wide. His hands, however, remained gently to your sides.
“I’m so sorry!” His voice was laced with panic and fluster. He really hadn’t thought about it first, he just went for it. That's what Zen always said to do, right?
You giggled, face also red. “It’s alright, Yoosung. I promise.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
He did it again. He just kissed you. He didn’t overthink it, he didn’t ask questions. He just did it. And it was amazing. Your hands rested more comfortably on his neck now, fingers lost in this long, bleached blond, locks. He pulled you closer to him, your body mere centimeters from his. This kiss wasn’t like the last one. It was less innocent, more desperate. His lips kissed yours roughly, his teeth grazing your bottom lip while your tongue brushed against his. It was almost too much for him, almost. The butterflies in his stomach were pushing up into his lungs, his breath removed from his lungs. He swore if there was a Heaven, the angels sang for you two. He had only met you hours before, but he knew you were special. You were so valuable. You were so kind, offering to help him write an essay for a class he rarely attended.
Needless to say, he will likely be returning to that class.
You pulled away from him, face flushed as you panted. You pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his smile, pressing your forehead against him. You swore you could see stars in his eyes. He reminded you of a Golden Retriever puppy, so excited and full of energy.
“Go on a date with me. A real date.” Yoosung’s breath was shaky and not much more than a whisper.
    You giggled. “Alright. Pick me up this weekend?”
    Yoosung nodded, his hypothetical tail wagging as his smile grew. You smiled, pulling him into a hug.

Jihyun Kim had been plagued by disaster his entire life. It seemed like the same story told in different ways over and over again.
No moment of his life had he known peace, except for a few short years, where he almost tasted what it felt like to be free from burden and hardship. There was no denying that he knew what it felt like to be hurt. He carried that weight with him time and time again because he had no say in what direction his life was heading in.
It was like someone else controlled the puppet strings to his fate. For so long, his life was determined by factors that Saejoong Choi decided. The man decided everything with the wave of his hand all because he had that power to destroy others for his gain.
He destroyed lives, places, people, and more in the chance that it may get in his way. It was never because he cared about what he destroyed, he only cared that it could destroy him.
It started with his mother who lost her life because his father made a deal with the wrong people at the wrong time, leaving her ultimately trapped in a burning household that she traded her life for to ensure that Jihyun lived. That changed the course of his life in a single day. Saejoong had forced a change upon him, and that was a change to keep things seemingly neutral.
Even if it meant that he had to bite his tongue and act like the rest of the world was fine. Even if it meant that he had to look a devil in the eyes and pretend to be his best friend. Even if it meant that he had to do things that he wasn’t proud of. He smiled through it all and became a man who stayed very strong on the image of keeping everyone happy.
He settled into his title of owning his father’s bar rather well as a young man. Jihyun knew how to go about the song and dance without any trouble. He knew how to please people and play the role of a ringmaster who directed people to look all around until they lost track of the truth. It was for the truth and safety of anyone that was hiding for a reason.
In doing that, he was able to help others and focus on doing good. It gave him a sense of purpose and even his childhood best friend commented on how it seemed to lift some of the weight on top of his shoulders at that time. Jumin thought that it was good that Jihyun had decided to do something that felt right to him after they’d spent their youth searching for a dream.
For Jumin, that had been chasing the stars and better conditions for the workers that tended to the company that his father helmed. He had dreams that people didn’t think much of because it almost sounded nonsensical given all of the changes and advancements that he wanted to make to keep any person safe and earning what they were due for their time.
That was a dream that he had been able to grasp between his fingertips without a fight. But for Jihyun, he still felt lost even after he saw his friend find what he wanted to do. That started to change as he settled into the bar and started helping others under the guise of being a neutral land where nobody could misbehave and whine.
He began to realize just how much he could help from his position. He started to use it to extend a hand to anyone that was down on their luck. If they needed a tip, trade, or a chance to get away for a good reason, he would find a way to get them out of town and onto the train for their wellbeing.
It happened over and over again for so many unfortunate people who were lost in roles that they’d been forced into. It was mostly small situations with people that were trying to escape captors, and if not in that case, then it would be people that did a small-time crime that couldn’t afford to pay off debts. So, he would cover their tracks and get them out.
That’s actually how he encountered Rika Kim in the first place. She’d known him from afar her entire life and decided to approach him because she was desperate to get away from her adoptive family with as much ease as she possibly could. Jihyun knew that painful look in her eyes and he couldn’t help but be drawn to her illuminating light.
For some reason, he couldn’t imagine escorting her out of town and letting her slip between the tips of his fingers. He was drawn to her for reasons that he didn’t quite understand but he instead gave her this simple offer of an engagement to convince her family to let her go free and off of their hands. She took the offer and at first, he only did so to make her happy to live her life freely, but as time passed—
Jihyun truly began to care for her in a romantic light. There was something about her that united them both, even though they butted heads about certain things in private now and again. Everyone seemed to think that they were the perfect match made in heaven. When Rika came into his life, the air around him started to change in ways that it never had before.
With her newfound freedom, she decided to help him change the bar for the better. She used that voice and talent that she honed in the church choir to the best of her abilities. She stood on stage and extended a hand to anyone that was within her sights and they flocked to her like vultures to prey. She was all that the people wanted to see.
With Rika’s help, he was able to help more people because they felt comfortable venturing into his bar to come and find him. That was how the little family they had grown day by day. It wasn’t just the two of them anymore. It was a team that believed in each other and counted on each other to keep their hearts alive.
It wasn’t just them aiming for the stars while his best friend Jumin stood nearby, cheering for him and keeping him steady in the face of anything that came his way. Jumin wasn’t always able to stay in town when he had business but when he was there, he was sitting at the bar, sharing drinks with his friend and urging him to follow his goals.
Jumin was the steady rock that allowed Jihyun to keep his faith alive in this world that had burned him countless times.
The first person to be encountered was Jaehee Kang, a woman who had been struggling to find work with her shooting skill and was on the brink of working with criminals just to be able to make ends meet. Rika found her in the streets one day, hungry and anxious, and brought her back to the bar to be taken care of.
Jaehee repaid the debt by deciding to help them with anyone she could behind the counter with a kind hand.
The second person to be brought in was Yoosung Kim, Rika’s young cousin who had been struggling to find his place in the world after a game had destroyed one of his eyes beyond repair. He needed to be able to get out of his family’s house so he could stop wallowing and hurting alone, so he took the spot by Jihyun as a bartender and learned the skills of the trade.
Yoosung was grateful for the chance and he put his cheery smile into every guest that he spoke to and took care of.
The third person who joined them was Zen. A young man that had come from the east was trying to chase his dreams of stardom. However, he was getting by working with gangs to get a place to sleep and food to eat. Rika saw potential in him the second she saw him trying to get together a theatre troupe,  and she made the offer for him to perform at the bar with her to help fund his dream.
Zen provided a passion to the aura that Rika had created with a tender hand, and everyone came from miles to see him shine.
That wasn’t the end of their family that had started growing at that time. Because just as this began to settle down after succession, he and Rika encountered two young boys wandering dazed and confused in the heat of the desert, covered in blood and clinging to each other as they tried to hide away from the monsters they feared.
They took one look at those boys and knew that they had to do something. As it turned out, their father was none other than the man that had killed his mother and almost killed him. The man that everyone believed to be a man that was a man of the people, Saejoong Choi. He saw himself in those twins and he vowed to protect them no matter what.
They hid the boys in their shared household just on the outskirts of town and tried to cover the tracks as best they could. Rika would spend as much home as she could with the boys when they weren’t at the bar working to keep up their covers. That was because Saejoong was hunting for the boys. He had killed their mother in cold blood and was ready to get rid of them no matter what.
If he found them, they would be destroyed.
This brought such a hardened tension upon his shoulders and Rika’s. They had fights now and again but it got harder to agree when any choice that they made was going to put the lives of everyone at risk with one single mistake. They couldn’t afford to make mistakes. This man didn’t hesitate. He killed if he had to, and that meant every choice was life or death.
To their credit, Jihyun knew that he and Rika tried their best for six months to take care of things, but it wasn’t long before Saejoong had managed to catch onto them. Just one little mistake and one person seeing more than they needed to. That was all that it took to change things once again. Jihyun managed to get a warning from one of the bandits that he made deals with.
They warned him that if he didn’t remove his precious treasure, it wouldn’t end well. That’s why he'd called upon a former deal that he made with another outlaw, Vanderwood. He told Vanderwood to take the boys away and hide them as much as they could, but the night that they came, Jihyun was held back at the bar by a patron that had been paid to stall him.
Vanderwood managed to get to the household and sneak the boys out to their carriage with Rika’s help but the villains arrived at the scene just as Vanderwood was about to take off. Rika made a split-second decision to stall the men as long as she could and show them around the household to prove that it was empty, all the while Vanderwood took off and tried to get a headstart into the desert.
Vanderwood did manage to get away.
However, the men realized what Rika did.
Instead of locking her up or making her pay for what she did, they loaded their guns and took care of her as if she was nothing more than a lamb to the slaughter. Jihyun’s skin still crawled as he thought of her final moments in this life and what she must have suffered. Damn whatever problems they had at that time, he didn’t want to suffer in such a horrid way.
He found her that night, left abandoned by the floor of their home, and he broke down and sobbed for the first time in years. Saejoong had robbed him once again of what little happiness he had. He lost the sons that he cared for greatly, he lost his partner that he loved, and he lost his mother all over again just by thinking of what this all meant.
Saejoong had taken his livelihood from him and made him suffer.
He couldn’t tell a soul about who truly murdered Rika because if it came out, the mayor would call him a liar and a cheat. Nobody would ever listen to him and nobody would ever believe him if he got the chance to bring out the documented proof. You couldn’t find someone who everyone believed to be kind and genuine.
You needed substantial proof.
He had to lie through his teeth and say that she’d passed suddenly from the sickness that had been spreading around the area. She had been sick, but not to such a degree where that would happen. He hated to lie to everyone about it but he thought that it was the only way to protect the boys. Rika had given her life to protect them, and he wanted to honor that.
The next couple of years were spent trying to find everything he could manage so he and the boys could take Saejoong down once and for all. Saeyoung and Saeran were forced to become outlaws to survive and get by, and Jihyun spent days working himself into the ground to try and ensure that it wasn’t a life that they would have to live forever.
He toiled away for those few years until everyone came to a standstill.
These days, he knows that he’s in a much better place than he was in the past.
A part of it is because he knows he has Cereus to thank. They came to town when everything felt like it was going to end in a way that would destroy all of them in the process. They took Rika’s position in the bar as a performer that could stand by Zen and keep the bar invigorated with guests.
Jihyun had to admit that he didn’t know how well they were taking to the job because Zen had said time and time again that they were talented and fully capable of holding their own, and when Zen promised something, he kept his word. He just never expected them to encounter Saeran when they weren’t able to work and help guide him to believe in humanity again.
Cereus reached through to Saeran’s heart when nobody else could, not Jihyun, not Vanderwood, and not even Saeyoung could manage to touch his bleeding heart.
It had only been Cereus who could snap him out of the lull of anger that he was trapped in for so long. They managed to steal everyone’s heart in the town, not just the members of the bar, in a matter of a few weeks.
Jihyun felt ashamed of himself for not being able to do that himself, but he was grateful that someone had been able to do it at all.
And by doing so, they united everyone to come together to rescue them from Saejoong Choi. When someone so beloved was at risk of being harmed, there was no choice but to follow the trail of blood. They took the chance and the risk to do what had to be done to protect everyone. It was at that point, or never.
It revealed everything all at once to the entire town in a matter of seconds. That the mayor had been stealing their money from underneath them and killing anyone that got in his way of maintaining his control. He was caught in the act and red-handed by the good people who suffered long enough.
The sheriff had been caught covering it up, and they were immediately removed from power.
That’s where Jihyun’s life changed for the third time.
And, this time? It was for the better and he knew that to be true. The town needed to be brought together once again and he and Jumin decided that they would take the risk together to start that process of mending things. Although, he hadn’t been sure about the choice that the people made about him.
The town’s people needed a new mayor to helm the area into the future. They all voted that it would be him if he would take the job and the risks that came alongside it. He hesitated at first but Saeran’d taken one look at him and simply said, “Dad, your goal in life has always been to help others, even if it got you burned in the end. If you want to help everyone, go through with it.”
Saeyoung had agreed with that.
The boys both supported him regardless of what he wanted to do with his life, and Jihyun decided to take the chance on himself. He always floated around because he had been packed into a bubble and never once did he think that he would be where he found himself now. He was now the mayor of the town that he cared for greatly.
All the while his adopted sons were trying to make sense of their own lives. He was proud of them for doing so. Even if it had gotten them involved in more trouble along the way. He never thought that the boys would wind up facing more trouble after they left town, but Saejoong was a man that never quit if he wanted something.
It invoked the wrath of pirates that wanted to scorn and burn the twins for the money. They wound up being able to come out unscathed but it had affected them in ways that they weren’t ready to talk about. It was hard to go from one trial to the other, but now, Jihyun was sure that that would never happen again.
That’s why Vanderwood went east to ensure that Saejoong faced the final judgment day. The twins had gotten involved in quite the mess while they were traveling and by the time that they came back, they’d quite the story to tell, alongside a new person in their lives that meant the world to them. Jihyun didn’t know what to say—
However, he knew that the boys were in good hands.
Cereus was going to stand by Saeran no matter what challenge came their way, while Andromeda was going to help Saeyoung chase the stars that he longed to touch with his bare hands. He approved of the path that the boys were taking. He was just happy to see them smiling and free from the trouble that’d haunted them since they were children.
Saeran was going to visit the bar every day to watch Cereus perform as the sunlight sparkled in their eyes. He would make sure that they were warm and protected. He would find friends closely with Zen and Yoosung, likely taking the helm of security for the bar whenever he was around for free. When he was able to see his Cereus glow, he was always smiling.
If he wasn’t doing that, he would come around to the mayor’s office to see what he could do to help Jihyun out. He was rather good at doling out tasks to others and checking paperwork. It probably had a lot to do with how much he had learned at being able to see through liars and fine prints. He truly was growing from the isolated boy he’d once been.
Saeyoung had grown as well. He wasn’t hiding behind a mask of fools any longer to keep himself alive for everyone else. He was laughing because he was truly happy. He would be right there by Cereus as he played his guitar and hummed along to a melody, while his Andromeda watched him from their spot at the bar by Saeran.
If he wasn’t enjoying his time with his family, he would hold Andromeda by the hand and take them around town to see what good they could do. Last Jihyun heard, they’d been making sure that all of the kids at the orphanage were able to have fun and things to do. He’d settled in rather nicely with a band of misfits. It worked for him.
Cereus was a shining beckon that reminded him of the moon, the glow that bloomed the flowers everyone forgot. Andromeda was like their namesake, the star that finally shined freely away from those chains that held them down. They were lovely people and they loved those brothers with everything they had in their hearts.
Jihyun was proud of his boys. Of course, even though it had only been a few days ago, he couldn’t stop chuckling about how the boys both proposed to their partners. Of course, Saeyoung let Saeran have his moment of glory to sweep Cereus off their feet and kiss them deeply, but he couldn’t let his brother be alone on the joyous occasion.
“I reckon I can’t have the spotlight for five minutes, can I?”
“Don’t let him fool ya’, Andie n’ Cereus. He agreed to let me share the special day.”
“We probably should have seen that coming, Andromeda. He doesn’t just write one song when he gets in his head. Are you sure that you want to deal with that forever?”
“I think that’s what’s charming about him. Are you sure that you want Saeran to gawk at you from afar like that for the rest of your life?”
Everyone was finally finding a sense of peace that was long overdue. Nevertheless, he was proud of the people around him. It felt like everything was finally coming together for their little group. He was proud of all of his friends. He was happy to call them his family, by all intents and purposes. This was a life that they deserved.
Jumin and Jaehee had managed to pool together the infrastructure of the town and ensure that truly everyone was getting paid their dues for everything, as well as ensuring that new businesses and families were joining them. He had them alone to thank for helping him piece together the mess left behind by Saejoong.
Yoosung had also taken to his new position very well.
He was enjoying being able to control the direction that the bar was heading. He had learned a lot in the time that he and Zen were in charge and it showed. He was on his way to making it a place where anyone was welcome and could find a place where they belonged. There were plenty of changes that had boosted the client list tenfold already. He’d never looked happier.
Zen was the same way. He was bringing in more talent to keep the place electrified when he or Cereus weren’t at the helm of things. He was doing what had been done for him. He was giving a chance to a group of people who dreamed of the spotlight but they needed someone to give them a chance to get there in this tough world.
Things were finally at peace in their quiet little western town. Sure, there were going to be tough times ahead but nothing compared to what they’d already gone through time and time again. Jihyun felt like he was prepared for it. But, there was still this yearning in his heart that struck him when he was alone for longer than a few minutes.
This lonely feeling inside of his heart had always haunted him. Even though Saejoong wasn’t going to be able to hurt him or his loved ones anymore, there was always this fear that something was going to go wrong when he least expected it. It was why he was always on guard and trying to look ahead to any possible outcome that may occur now or later.
It might have sounded silly but he was guarded for a reason.
Jihyun had a lot to take care of now and he wanted to ensure that the people under his care were well taken care of. It didn’t matter what it took to keep his promises, but he knew that being open and as transparent as possible was for the best. That’s why they had council meetings and allowed people on the floor to state their needs and fears no matter what they were.
The town wasn’t just its leader, after all.
Everyone had to work together to make a sustainable community. That was the best way to keep the hearts of everyone united. If someone hid things from the community, it would only make matters much worse in the long run. People deserved and needed to know that there were risks and benefits to every choice that they made.
For the most part, however, it was working out to the benefit of everyone. It was a lot to put on his plate, though. He was handling most of the planning and filing by himself, as it wasn’t easy to come by anyone that wanted to take the job beside him. Everyone may have trusted him to take charge but not a single soul wanted the infamy of Saejoong to weigh over their heads.
It meant that he was pushing his luck with his health, but that wasn’t new to him. It had always been hard to rest well knowing that the boys needed him to be strong.
Now that they didn’t need him, it was a matter of trying to understand how he could do that for the rest of the town, and find the time in the middle of that for himself, too.
Now, that’s why it was no surprise when Jumin found him slumped over at his desk when he came to visit. His best friend wasn’t angry at the sight, but he knew full well how hard that Jihyun worked to get himself to that point of exhaustion. The two of them were notorious for trying to tend to everyone except for themselves and really, it was something they all should’ve seen coming.
Jihyun had been working on trying to help builders coordinate where the best spots would be to build new homes and businesses closer to the center of town. It needed some working and tinkering since all of the land had to be leveled and cultivated properly. There were plenty of new people coming but not enough to sustain them for long in the hotels.
But, doing this was a labor that was taking far longer than he thought it would.
As in, taking a few months, as opposed to a few weeks of preparations and then a month or so of work to get things all squared away. Even with Jumin’s company to help in and supplement, there was still no way to do all that needed to be done as fast as he wished he could. Human hands could only work so fast and hard, unfortunately.
He had reassured everyone that he was handling things well but it didn’t excuse the fact that he had barely left his office as of late. Even an offer from Jumin or Saeran didn’t tug him away from his work and duty.
When he awoke, he wasn’t in his office anymore. He was no longer at the mayor’s headquarters at all. They had likely moved him back to his home to get rest in an adequate bed instead of in his chair as he often did. Jihyun knew that they weren’t going to let him hear the end of this.
Jihyun ran a hand into his hair, noting that the curls were growing longer, it was messy from his rest but he liked it this way. His former lover had chided him about it time and time again but it was one of those things that he didn’t mind.
It didn’t seem like anyone was in the room with him. He glanced around and noted that there were a few things strewn about to indicate that someone had dropped by. He removed the rag from his head and sat up in bed. His body felt a little woozy but that might have been because he hadn’t gotten that much to eat before he crashed.
“Oh, no, you don’t, mister mayor,” a voice spoke from the doorway. The sounds of footsteps against the ground were telling as he realized that he was in trouble. He smiled sheepishly as they nudged him back against the sheets. “You’re exhausted. Jumin said that he found you slumped over at your desk for what must be the hundredth time. I thought we had this conversation already, you can’t do that!”
You were the doctor for the town. You had taken up the helm from your father’s practice and were in the process of trying to establish yourself after having been away to study for a few years properly in the city. You learned everything from your father but you wanted to be able to apply new skills that could benefit everyone in such a small town.
It was admirable but the last time that he’d seen you was when the two of you were teenagers. It’d been such a long time that it was always a surprise to see you around like this nowadays. He knew that you’d be in and out of town to handle cases.
After the last minor epidemic, you wanted to ensure that it just wouldn’t happen again.
He could remember you saying that with earnest once when he was at your father’s practice. That you wanted to help ensure that the livelihood of everyone around was taken care of no matter what you had to do to protect people. You wanted to know everything you could to protect someone’s health and safety.
This was what made you a saint to the people in town. It wasn’t always a sound business deal that you followed because you hardly charged anyone for what you did. So much of it relied on the donations of a group or of the people that you tended to. It was a hard job but you did it with care.
Even if you had to strong-arm someone to get some sleep.
Jihyun knew your father very well. That was the man that treated his burns when he was a child and continued to supply the care he needed to make sure that it didn’t grow infected. He wasn’t able to do much about the scars but a skin blemish was a much better fate than losing his life after his mother had given hers to save him from the embers.
You had been helping his father, even back then, because he could remember you scolding him daily that he needed to dress his wounds properly. Whenever he saw your face, he remembered the voice of someone reminding him that he needed to take care of himself.
It wasn’t such a bad memory because your kindness back then had helped him when he felt so isolated.
“Oh, Wren, it’s you,” he said, feeling the embarrassment rising from his neck. He should’ve known that Jumin would send you to check in on him. Jumin knew that he could leave his friend to be a doctor in town with the Wren birds painted on the side of the building. That was your family moniker, and what most people called you by. They’d done the same for your father.
“Oh, don’t, ‘Oh, it’s you, Wren,’ me, Jihyun,” you clicked your tongue. That was a tell-tale sign that he was on thin ice with you. You placed a glass in his hands and kept that friendly smile on your face. “I’m not going to tell you twice, sir. You’re not going back into the office for two days, doctor’s orders. You should know that Jumin’s been worried sick about you.”
No pleasantries.
Jihyun was grateful that you dropped by. He made sure to drink as much as possible because you were going to babysit his bedside. There was no doubt that Jumin was in the other room. Given the fact that the sun appeared to be long gone, it was late into the evening or even later into the night. You two were going to ensure that he didn’t leave, huh?
If he didn’t know any better, he’d probably assume that Saeran and Saeyoung were lingering outside of the house to cover all of their bases. It came from a good place so he wasn’t too worried about that, but he did have to get his work done. The world wasn’t going to stop moving just because he needed to take it easy.
The gracious smile on his face could only deflect your concerns for so long. “And, I reckon I shouldn’t say that you’re worried sick, too?”
That look on your face softened. But it was washed away when you took the empty glass from his hands and set it back on the bedside.
You ran through your checklist of things to look for his vitals and after a couple of minutes off tests to see that he was alright, you nodded. He had no clue of all of the things that you had on your mind but he knew very well that you had a reason for them.
You said, “I reckon I can say that I’ve been worried about the strain of your workload, Jihyun. You have been trying to make up for mistakes that were never yours to start with. Nobody expects you to give us gold every day you've already done that tenfold. So, there is no need to wind up in this bed like this. No reason whatsoever."
He closed his eyes.
To some degree, he knew very well that you were right. It wasn't going to help him if he did any of this but at the same time, it wasn't going to help everyone else if things didn't go the way that he planned. It was like he was trapped between a rock and a hard place. It seemed like there was no ideal option. All of these things he wanted to do and so little time.
They’d call him a masochist for doing this to himself but he had a bleeding heart.
Jumin had said that once. After the truth was revealed to everyone and he heard the burden that his best friend was carrying on his back. Those worried grey eyes watching his every move and saying with that knowing look in his eyes: “Jihyun, it would be a fool’s errand to go in without help. Let us shoulder a shred of the weight that you’ve borne alone all this time.”
Jumin’s hand had felt so warm against his skin. That reassurance made him want to have faith in his words. He took the risk because Saeyoung and Saeran didn’t let their fear guilt them, because Zen, Jaehee,  and Yoosung ran in without thinking twice, and because Jumin held his hand and told him to believe again.
Yet, old habits die hard, don’t they?
It was the realistic choice but it was hard to unlearn a system that you’ve instilled into yourself from such a young age. His life wasn’t what it used to be but that didn’t mean that he was out of the woods that he placed himself within. A little progress was a good thing but he knew that now that the cat was out of the bag, he’d been expecting less on his plate.
Perhaps, Jumin wasn’t wrong when he mentioned that it would be nice to put out the offers to find an assistant from out of town that would be comfortable taking the position. Saeran wasn’t likely to want the job full-time, he assumed, but he knew that they’d likely ask him to jump in until they could find a poor soul that wanted to traverse the desert.
There was so much to do and his brain was whirling with everything that would come because he was not able to keep up his pace like he used to. Perhaps, this was merely a sign that he was getting older, or the strain was finally catching up with him after what was nearly a decade of pushing himself to the extreme.
This was another dust storm of emotions, wasn’t it?
He found himself lost in those often.
You weren’t pushing him to talk or say anything but he knew that your eyes were watching him closely. That was your job, after all. Even when you were younger and just learning how to dress wounds the way that you did,
You had a lot more patients to tend to, right? Jihyun didn’t want to get in the way of that. He could handle this on his own, and he knew that the others would step in to nag him the same way that you would. He didn’t want to worry you if he could help it. You were always kind and sweet to him but your time was better spent on people who could listen.
“Jihyun, you need to be careful, okay?”
“Of course, [Y/N],” that thin little smile that Jihyun always shared with others flashed across his face as you slowly began to redress his burns. Your father let you tend to the young Kim after he had managed to remove most of the dirt and cloth that had seared into his skin. His black was splotchy with grooves and lines that would soon bubble and burst.
Despite the amount of pain he was in, he was hiding it with a friendly smile. His father had already left him entrusted to the car of the Wren family practice for the time being. He was far too busy trying to deal with the remains of their home. Being aware of his stern father wasn’t too bad, but he didn’t know how to feel about being here.
He knew that he was comfortable with Jumin and his family, but this was the first time that he had been stuck with any other such family. He felt like such a burden because he couldn’t do anything but lay on his stomach and stifle the sounds of whimpers as the pain grew. The scars covered most of his upper back and most of his neck.
It had scorched some of his hair but he was fortunate that it hadn’t done more damage.
You were careful to graze his wounds. You didn’t want to make them too tight but right now, they were too harsh to see too much light. You were remembering everything that your father told you but you paused at every chance you could. It was like you could sense when it was too much for Jihyun.
You just knew when it was uncomfortable.
The sight of injuries and wounds wasn’t shocking to you but to see the mint-haired boy from your church in so much pain hurt. It was the first time that you’d have some kind of connection with someone that you’d tended to and it made you think twice about how you applied medication and care. Your father would’ve told you to get it over with sooner, rather than later.
But, wasn’t it wrong to ignore the distress of a patient, too?
You tied off the final knot on your wraps and rubbed your hands together. You looked back at the doorway but hesitated since you knew that Jihyun was going to be alone. He was having such a hard time but his dad hadn’t even come to visit him since everything happened. “Jihyun?”
Ever the polite one, Jihyun tried to tilt his head to the side so that he could meet your gaze but he hissed as the pain shot through his body. You frowned and shook your head. “Don’t try to move, ‘kay? The welts are going to make it hard to move for a little longer. You don’t have to try n’ look at me like ya’ do with my dad, okay?”
Jihyun didn’t respond to that right away. However, he did adjust himself and rest his chin against his forearms. There wasn’t much that he could do. It made you feel bad. You wished that you could do just something to make his pain a little less exhausting. That forlorn sigh against his lips made you wonder what you could do.
That was when an idea burst into your head!
“Wait here, okay? Well, I mean, it’s not like you can get up right now, but I’ll be back, ‘kay?”
"...Okay.”
Jihyun would be surprised when you returned sometime later with Jumin at your side, a giggly laugh on your lips when he seemed so surprised. You knew that he was lonely in that room. As much as you’d love to keep him company, though, you knew that you wouldn’t be able to stay with him for too long.
Your father kept you busy as can be and you knew that you had to help everyone in town as soon as possible! It was the duty of the business.
Still, the three of you sat together in that tiny room for quite a while, easing Jihyun’s mind from the pain that he felt so strongly. It wasn’t much, but it was the most that you could think to do. It had been a time that changed how you viewed caring for the people around you. It was what made you want to think of kindness first, as opposed to getting things done without ensuring someone was comfortable.
You never forgot that boy.
Jihyun Kim left his mark on in ways that you would never be able to forget.
Those memories still hang in Jihyun’s mind, as well.
“Sorry to have worried ya’,” he said. His eyes met yours and you smiled despite how much you wanted to scold him for it, “I just want to do everythin’ right. Everyone’s puts their faith in me n’ I want to ensure that I give everyone what they deserve. After all that this town has suffered over the years, I’m just determined to make it right.”
You leaned forward and pressed your hand against his shoulder, shaking your head. “Jihyun. You’re always smilin’ and tellin’ everyone that you’re okay so that you don’t feel like an inconvenience, but it’s your turn to allow others to carry you, okay? I know it’s not my place to say it since I ain’t been back in town for very long and we’re strangers these days, but please, understand that we want to help you as you’ve helped us.”
That glimmering smile that breached your face was enough to make his chest flutter for some reason. It made him blink, and look at you twice. You merely laughed away that look of disbelief on his face. “I’m sorry. I reckon that was too forward of me. Jumin’s the one that you should worry about. He’s the one that wants to give you a stern talkin’ to.”
He hung his head.
You were right.
Jumin was right.
So the conversation that lay ahead of him was just one of many that were coming to be given to him. He knew that he should prepare himself for it but the cover of night protected him from opening up that topic just yet. The morning would be a hardship but it would be nothing compared to those pains that he bore in his past, right?
“I surely… have it comin’,” he murmured.
“Don’t worry. I’ll vouch for you if you’re not ready to talk to everyone,” you pulled your hand back and pressed a finger to your lips as if to shush him before he could interrupt you. “You can say that it's eye for an eye because you did cover for me that one time when we were kids. Remember?”
Jihyun blinked, then he chuckled. Oh, you meant that.  “Oh… I suppose ya’ meant that time that you brought Jumin over to cheer me up, right? Well, that was… that meant a lot to me. You said that it was important that he thought that you were always getting your work done. But, you already spent all of your time dressing my wounds, you needed a break.”
“Always wise beyond yer’ years, huh?” You shook your head at that. There was a comment that you’d bitten back about how he tried to play the grown-up to please everyone and keep himself from falling and crumbling. “Well, I know how everyone feels about life debts around here. Consider that as what makes us even.”
“I have a grave feelin’ you’ll be seein’ me again, Wren.”
“Mayor Kim,” your voice was curt with him as you stood up once more. You had the makings of someone who knew how to command the rest of the world with the wave of a single hand. That made him shiver but he didn’t turn away as you were thrilled with confidence, “I do not want to see you under the guise of an emergency house call anytime soon.”
Jihyun knew that you weren’t kidding.
“...”
When he didn’t respond or say anything, you found yourself laughing as you headed towards the door once more. You spared him a single look over your shoulder with a playful glint to your sparkling eyes. It left him wondering if that lightheaded feeling that was churning in the back of his head was because of his exhaustion, or something more.
“However, if you want to see me when I’m off-duty, send a message my way. I’d always be happy to get a chance to spend time with you. After all, it’s been too long since we’ve spent time together. I want to see how your burns are fairin’ these days if you’ll let me. But for now, get some rest, okay? You’ve got a long day.”
When Jihyun awoke once more, he wasn’t surprised that Jumin had taken your place at his bedside. There was that familiar look in his eyes that simply said that he was in trouble again. He could’ve let Jumin scold him or he could’ve pretended to be asleep for just a few moments longer.
Neither was going to do him much good, though.
So, he merely sighed and let himself make eye-contact with his friend. Oftentimes, they didn’t even need to express their thoughts in words. They just had that friendship where they knew what to say because the other’s thoughts were already bursting at the seams in their mind.
Still, it was going to need to come to surface whether they knew it or not. The one thing that he could be grateful for was that the others hadn’t trotted in at the same time. They’d surely be around to come and see him before the end of the day but… his dear Jumin was always the first one to put himself on the line to see to his health.
The shame that he felt for not being able to do more in return for Jumin still weighed on him, but he knew not to deny that the takedown of Saejoong had happened just in time to save Jumin’s company from failure. Still, Jihyun longed to be able to make the burdens everyone felt wash away so they could have the taste of weightless freedom.
Much like a bird flying high in the sky.
“Jihyun.”
“...I’m aware. “
“If yer’ aware, then you know exactly why we shouldn’t be in this position right now. Honestly, we’ve been working on this together and you neglected to inform me that you needed more help with these contracts?”
“Ah, the work yer’ doin’ is already well enough, Jumin. I didn’t want to task you or Jaehee with much else when yer’ covering your end of our goals. I am sorry that I worried you. I don’t want… I don’t wish to put you in that position again.”
“It’s my fault, as well. I know you… I should’ve suspected that you would fall on old habits. But, ya’ve got to ask for help when you need it, Jihyun. Wren made it clear that ya’ve pushed yourself too hard to exhaustion this time. They didn’t put it lightly. Ya’ can’t keep doin’ this to your body. It’s going to hurt you sooner, rather than later.”
Adjustments could be made, Jumin was implying. However, adjustments were nothing if Jihyun died or became gravely ill in the process.
Jihyun smiled, as he always did when he was in this position, but he offered his hand to his friend this time instead of keeping it all to himself. Jumin took it without hesitation and looked at where they’d been united since they were young.
Even if they suffered and struggled, nothing would change those bonds they forged.
In this town, their world was about new beginnings and renewal of belief in others and oneself. Even if the world around them was changing, their bonds would never change. Jihyun was going to try and be the man that everyone knew him to be, and who he wanted to believe himself to be. He just needed to start small to get there.
It always felt overwhelming when he was alone with his thoughts but you reminded him of something that he often missed. Even if he felt alone in the darkness, there were always people thinking of him in those times of need. Whether it was Jumin reaching out to him when he knew that his friend was in a vulnerable place, or when you kept him company as his body toiled away.
“I… I promise I will try harder to trust in myself. I can’t promise that I won’t be a stubborn fool, my dear friend, but I don’t want to waste the chance we’ve all been given to change our fates once bound by the unforgivin’ desert,” he said, quietly. “Thank you, for always trying to remind me that I need to have faith.”
“I know yer’ capable, Jihyun,” Jumin said. Though, there was an unspoken ‘but’ at the end of his words that Jihyun knew was coming. He sighed the second that he felt his friend getting ready to break some kind of news to him. “But, you will be restin’ this weekend. Wren is going to see to it that you stay in bed for most of the day. You n’ I both know why they are so successful.”
Jihyun chuckled. “Yeah, because they’re relentless when it comes to the care and quality of life that somebody has. I’ll try not to take this personally.”
“Good. Because I assumed you would prefer their company over Saeran and Saeyoung. Your sons have been itching to have a word with you since dawn.”
Well, at least, there was never a dull day.

“UNREQUITED LOVE”
Tumblr media
Seven
Honestly speaking, Seven is a friend that keeps joking around and fun to be with. He’s so easygoing yet he keeps building up walls around himself, distancing himself from everyone, even you.
He’s the kind that just keeps smiling, no matter what situation he was in.
It’s that reason why when you approach him for the first time, you could instantly tell he’s building up walls around him. But in reality, he just smiles.
Behind that smile though screams “go away” “why are you talking to me?” “who the hell are you?”
I think it’s very difficult to befriend him (The twins are, in general). BUT! Once you get past his build-up walls and warmed up to him, he’ll slowly also warmed up to you.
Now, going back to platonic hc.
You two will always have a competition. ALWAYS. Whether petty or stupid or crazy, it doesn’t matter. Seven is the exact definition of CRAZY, and I hope you are too.
You two will be spamming the chatrooms so much, much to the rest’s irritation. You two will be a dynamic duo that cannot be stopped.
Actually people might mistake you as couple (if ever you two go out, you usually stay indoors) since you two actually look like one. Of course, you two will deny it, stating your just friends, which is true enough.
Though sometimes you two took advantage of this. If there’s a couple discount in a store? You two will pretend to be a couple to get a discount.
Vanderwood would just get used to having two idiots in the house now, since you always crash in Seven’s house. You practically live there now. (poor Vanderwood--)
Seven would be so comfortable with you, that he can be himself. If he’s sure he can trust you, he will tell you about his past and about his twin brother. How he regret leaving Saeran, how he regrets everything about his life.
If MC joins the RFA, you instantly knew something was wrong with Seven.
If you realize that he loves her, you would definitely tease him about it. He would passionately deny it (with flushed cheeks), but you knew better.
You would be there for him when he realize what had happened to his brother, you comforted him as he cries. cries.
I would also like to imagine him telling you about the reset, and explaining to your confuse self. You’re the only one he can confide to about this information. Pls don’t break this trust.
You would definitely help Seven to search for Saeran, and be his best man in his and MC’s wedding (yes, even if you are a girl. Fight me.)
Overall, I think this friendship is a wholesome one. Full of trust and fun. Pls don’t abuse this friendship with Seven ;-; This poor bby boi has been through a lot..
Tumblr media
Yoosung Kim
You two definitely meet during classes in College, whether sharing the same course or accidentally met in the library or cafeteria or anywhere. You two will instantly click.
Yoosung would, at first, be shy in talking with you. But slowly grew more confident as you two talk with each other.
He would DEFINITELY bring Rika up in one of your conversations. You would be like, “??? who?”
He then proceeds to explain that Rika was his cousin, and that she recently just died. Your motherly instinct activated when you see tears building in his eyes as you brought him to your chest and comforted him.
It isn’t hard for Yoosung to trust you, unlike Seven.
If you play LOLOL, this boi would be so ecstatic that he immediately suggested to play together. I hope you agree.
I imagine him being kinda talkative. So, maybe after playing LOLOL or finish doing a project or whatever, you two will sit together on the couch and just talk. Your conversation can be either heartfelt or weird or strange or funny. You two’ll talk endlessly until both of you realize that it’s super late at night.
Like Seven’s, you two will be mistaken as a couple by your classmates. You two’ll instantly deny it though, in Yoosung’s side, flushed face while denying.
But unlike Seven, you two don’t take advantage of this. You two probably didn’t know it existed until someone mention it to you or you found out.
You two are the innocent beans in the chatrooms. You usually save Yoosung from Seven’s antics, which the rest are grateful for.
I honestly see Yoosung as a Musical fan, like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, etc. If you like those as well, expect jamming session of Musical Broadway songs.
I can also imagine if Yoosung is scared or nervous, he will instinctively grab your hand. It’s like he’s reassuring himself that your there for him, and won’t disappear from him. Unlike his cousin, his love.
He might come off as clingy but you better know that’s not the case. He’s scared. You can reassure him by squeezing his hand and smiling at him. “I’ll always be here for you.” he might shed a tear or two before smiling back at you.
When MC joins the RFA. The two of you were surprised at her sudden appearance but nevertheless welcomed her.
If you realize that MC likes Yoosung and how Yoosung keeps comparing her to Rika, you would definitely step in. You know that MC feels hurt that Yoosung keeps comparing her to his dead cousin, so you talk to him.
He wouldn’t take this lightly though. But eventually realized that you and Zen were right. MC wasn’t like Rika at all! Maybe even better!
You would be SO worried about Yoosung when you heard he lost one of his eyes. But you knew better to visit him so you spam him instead, letting him and MC have their moment.
You would be there when he became a veterinarian. You’ll also be his best man in his wedding (regardless if you’re a woman).
Overall... this friendship is one-of-a-kind. It’s rare to see a man like Yoosung nowadays. If ever you meet this kind of person, befriend them. I’m sure you wouldn’t regret it :)
Tumblr media
Jumin Han
I can’t imagine anything else but during your childhood. You’re friends with him and V, and possibly Rika as well. But you’re close to V rather than to Jumin.
You’re actually scared of him really, since he has this aura around him that screams “superior!” “don’t talk to me peasant” “go away”. Yeah, not so friendly aura.
V would always reassure you that Jumin isn’t that kind of person. You, of course, believe him but it’s hard to approach someone like Jumin.
Once you’re older, you might have lost communication with the both of them. By the time you knew it, you heard V was getting married to Rika. And you knew who else has a crush on Rika. Jumin.
You, of course, congratulated them. But you were deeply concerned about the black-haired CEO. But when you approach him about it, he pushed you away.
When V suddenly died, you were gravely saddened to have lost a friend. You were deeply wounded at the fact that he left so sudden, why? why? why?
Jumin might’ve noticed you grieving so he’s the one approaching you now. He’s the one reaching out his hand, and you took it.
At the start of your newfound rekindled friendship, it was to say awkward and a bit rocky. But you were used to it so you persisted until you wiggle yourself into his life. And, surprise surprise, he accepted the fact that you are his friend.
You two will not always hang out however, since you two have work to go to. But you two will call each other frequently, asking each other trivial things, which is surprising coming from Jumin.
I also think someone will mistake you as Jumin’s girlfriend, but he will outright deny it.
He MIGHT MIGHT use this an advantage though. But not so much, since he doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable or take advantage of you.
If you like cats, great! If you two are already like best friends, Jumin will let you meet Elizabeth the 3rd.
If you work with him in C&R, you’ll be expected to come to his office often to drag him away from his workaholic self.
By now, Jumin already considers you a close friend, that’s a first. The friend who never left him. So he confides in you about his insecurities in running the company, how he never had a family before since his father is a womanizer, hopping from one woman to another. He’s just a product of a one night-stand.
Just listen to him, that’s all he needed. You don’t need to talk, just listen. And pls don’t spread it either, Jumin’ll not like that.
He’s not usually talkative really. You’re the one who talks, if you’re a talkative person like Yoosung, the one who keeps the conversation going. But if you’re quiet, then the both of you can bask in silence in each other’s presence.
I would like to think Jumin thinks of you as a (sister/brother) he never had, a family.
And, very so often than not, he smiles to you. He’s so comfortable with you that he can be himself and not uphold his guard.
The rest of the RFA would take note of Jumin being soft towards you. Like he’ll be angry one second but once you’re in the chat, he’ll go soft. Like “???”. But I would like to think they’re happy that Jumin found a friend that he can trust. (Proud RFA)
(It’s also noticeable in the employees of C&R that Jumin has become soft towards you.)
You and Jaehee would DEFINITELY be friends as well. You may or may not have told Jumin to stop giving her so many tasks. But nevertheless, she’s grateful for you and happy that you’re also her friend.
Anyway. If MC joins the RFA, Jumin, being Jumin Han, was wary of her. You assure him that she meant no harm at all.
But once all was revealed, and founding out V was still alive. You had mixed feelings about him, like you’re happy that he’s alive but angry that he lied to you.
You’re also mad towards Jumin. He told you the reason why V died, but the reasoning was a lie. You don’t know who to trust anymore so you shunned everyone out.
Jumin was devastated, to say the least. He has grown into a trusting and loving friendship with you that was hard to build, and yet it broke. Like a snap of a finger, it immediately broke. He doesn’t know what to do. He lost a friend, the friend who never left his side, the one who cheers him on, the one who loves hanging out with him even though he’s boring, the friend who was a family to him.
He cried. Jumin Han cried. MC tried comforting him of course, but he never stopped. He wanted you back, he couldn’t bear to lose someone important again.
And, like a miracle, you came back. Oh how happy he was when he saw you standing in front of him. He immediately engulfed you into a hug, not caring if some people saw him. He got you back, that’s all that matters.
After the fiasco was dealt with, you would DEFINITELY attend their wedding. It’s either his Best Man or a Bridesmaid, he still respect the Church’s wishes afterall.
Overall, your friendship with this trust-fund kid was messy and started out rough. But once you two work hard on it, it blossomed. Until someone crush it and it became broken again. But once again, it stood strong and proudly, even though damaged. And I think it’s beautiful, no matter what anyone else’s say.
Tumblr media
Zen
This guy is an actor, an egotistical, narcissistic guy. Who looks like a real-life Mafumafu and gotten his name “Zen” from a guy named Zen in Akagami no Shirayukihime (Snow White with the Red Hair).
Putting that aside, you two probably met accidentally in a set. Where you accidentally pour water on him during a break. You profusely apologized lots of time, and him reassuring you every time.
Yeah. Not an ideal meeting but a meeting no less.
Zen would probably took an interest for you. No, not romantic interest. He’s more interested in being your friend. He saw how you interact with other people, and especially your friends. He was, dare I say, jealous of people being with you. He wanted a friend like that, that’s all he wanted afterall.
He would take time to chat with you in-between takes (or breaks in Musical Broadway). He would eventually find out that you don’t care if he’s a famous actor that enjoys his looks. He found himself being comfortable around you.
If the set you two are in has ended, he would be disappointed. That means, there’s no more reason to interact with you. But you surprise him by telling him that if he wants to hang out again, just call me. He was ecstatic.
Whenever you hang out though, it needs to be in-secret. He would have to wear a disguise if he doesn’t want anyone to recognize him while he’s hanging out with you.
Where you hang out though is always a mystery. Sometimes in a park, sometimes in a amusement park, sometimes in a cafe, sometimes in a mall, and so on. It’s always random with him, but enjoyable nonetheless.
But if someone caught him hanging out with you and post it online.It would cause a frenzy really. But don’t worry! Zen would one way or another calm it down and state that you two are just friends.
Zen would DEFINITELY get you to ride his motorcycle, but wouldn’t force you to ride it if you’re scared. BUT! He’s persistent so you have no choice but to give in.
If you like Musical, great! Then the both of you can jam out with Musical songs, that he may or may not have sung (COUGH Hamilton COUGH).
But after the incident of the online, you hang out in Zen’s apartment or yours. You two binge-watch Netflix shows or watch a movie.
He would DEFINITELY force you to practice with him if he needs to practice for a role. But if the scene includes a kissing scene, he would kiss you on the cheek instead.
If he’s comfortable with around you, he would tell you about his past. How his family doesn’t want him to be an actor, how they immediately disowned him and how he got depressed.
You don’t need to talk really, comfort him. Pull him close and rub his back. “It’s alright.. I’m here.” Zen might burst into tears.
In the chatroom, you two act the same as usual. You actually mother the RFA. You reprimand him for being an addict to LOLOL. You reprimand Seven to eat other food other than Buddha Chips. You reprimand Jumin for being an workaholic, and for overworking poor Jaehee. The only one you don’t reprimand is Jaehee, she’s a precious angel.
You would DEFINITELY be there for him whenever Zen would perform on stage or on screen. You are his number one supporter after all.
When he feels nervous, he’ll instinctively looks at you. You, in return, flash a reassuring smile. Then his confidence would be boosted and his nervousness goes away.
This small action of yours, swells Zen’s heart. He’s glad to have a friend like you. A friend that actually supports him, a friend that loves him whole-heartedly, a friend that enjoys his company, a friend that will always be there for him. He finally found his longing friend.
If MC has joined the RFA, you noticed Zen’s personality shift a bit.
If you noticed how Zen and MC were falling in love, you would definitely be their Number One Supporter.
If you know the Echo Girl incident, you might not intervene. Letting them handle it since it’s their problem. (lol savage friend)
After everything has ended, you would be supporting Zen full-heartedly. He wants to marry MC? Alright. Let’s plan the wedding and engagement. He wants to find a romantic spot for a date? Alrighty, let’s check Siri.
You would be his Best Man (even if you’re a woman). He’s so nervous that he turns to you and you flash him a smile. The exact same smile you gave to him whenever he feels nervous.
He would forever be grateful to you.
Overall, your friendship with him may not seem like much on the outside, but on the inside, you and Zen would feel like you’ve known each other for so long that you understand each other so well. This friendship is also a beautiful kind, pls treat this boi right.

Jaehee Kang
I would definitely think you two met during her college days. You two were paired up in a project and that’s how you two click. It was you two were meant to be, like two puzzles fit together.
After that, you two would be found hanging out with each other. She admires your determination in finishing college and wanting to enter to your favorite job, while you admire her for her silent demeanor and how studious she was.
You two would DEFINITELY be hanging out in the library or in either of your rooms, just reading or studying. But sometimes you two were seen hanging out in the park, cafe or around the campus.
People might mistake you as a couple, but (of course) you two would deny it.
Even after graduating, you two still kept in touch. If you two were working in C&R, you would definitely talk with her during breaks. If you two were working in two separate works, you would call her still. But even if this happens, it’s not guaranteed that she’ll answer your call or meet you during breaks (since Jumin dumps her lots of stuff).
You will help her in some, which she protest at first but ultimately gave up when she realized how stubborn you could be.
If you two were hanging out in a rare day that she has a day off, she would make you binge-watch Zen’s performances, fangirling about it. You would support her of course, if you’re not a fan. But if you’re a fan, you both will be a squealing and fangirling mess.
In chatrooms, Jaehee would still be herself. You, on the other hand, would definitely play along with Seven’s pranks on Yoosung. Both you and Seven are partners-in-crime. Jaehee would definitely be the person who says “I don’t know that person. What’re you talking about?” while looking away from you.
If she’s overworking herself, you’ll immediately drag her away to relax herself.
If she wants to open a cafe, you would definitely support her and be an employee of it. But that’s much later.
Actually, if she’s stress, she would definitely rant to you about how bad of a boss is Jumin. You would need to give her coffee and open the tv to watch one of Zen’s performance to calm her down.
She would DEFINITELY open up her sexuality to you. You, of course, didn’t judge her and supported her.
If MC joins the RFA, you and Jaehee would be skeptical at first of course. A sudden girl suddenly entered the RFA without all of them knowing of her. It seems suspicious. But decided to shrug it off.
If you realize Jaehee is falling for MC, you would be suspicious of MC’s advances. So you decided to talk to MC about it. You know about the LGBTQ+ community, and fully aware of Jaehee’s sexuality. But you aren’t sure about MC.
You are only doing this because you don’t want Jaehee to be broken-hearted, to be lead on. So you had a talk with MC. And after that talk, you are now sure that MC loves Jaehee as much as Jaehee loves her.
After all the fiasco ended, Jaehee resigned being Jumin’s assistant and opened up a cafe with MC. You became an employee of it but only on the weekends or you have free time.
If ever they marry, you would be Jaehee’s maid-in-honor (even if you’re a boy. And no, you’re wearing a suit, don’t worry). You would be so proud of you for being who she was and you would be grateful to MC who made Jaehee who she was now.
I think this friendship is common but it’s also beautiful. It actually reminds me of my friends (now strangers.... unfortunately ;-;)
Tumblr media
V
Ahh.  My husband. Here we go.
You two met when both of you were teenagers, when he was in a photoshoot. He accidentally took a picture of you, and he apologized for it but you reassure him that it was okay.
After that meeting, you two became great friends. You also met Jumin and became friends with him.
You two would be hanging out everywhere. Since he’s a photographer, he wants to take picture of everything that seems interesting. But sometimes, you would be found in V’s room, looking through his taken pictures in his camera.
If you’re also a photographer, he would be so happy! He would take you everywhere that has a great scenery to hear the sounds of clicking of the camera. If you’re not, you can be his muse! (if you don’t mind, of course).
People wouldn’t mistake you two as a couple really, since they see how V sees you as a (sister/brother) and you to him. They can see it in the aura.
Few years past, and you met Rika.
When you first met her, you could immediately tell something was wrong with her. You didn’t take Psychology in college for nothing!
But you don’t have the heart to tell V about it, since he looks so happy with her. You can also tell that Jumin has a crush on her as well.
As days go by, you and V were falling apart. You two slowly didn’t talk anymore, which confuse you greatly. why was there a distance? did I do something wrong? did I say something? why? why? wHY? WHY?!
You felt empty without V. He was your half after all, a brother. Now he’s gone, you felt lonely without him.
You knew about the RFA. And Jumin suggested you to join, so you did. You felt better as you interact with the other members. Jumin could see it, Rika could see it, V could see it.
But what drove you to succumb to depression, the last struck, was V’s death. That was the last one to destroy what little sanity you have left. You even tried to suicide, but Jumin caught you before you could try.
You grew more depressed as the days go by. You wouldn’t come out of bed or eat the food given to you. This made the members of the RFA worry about you. So they tried their best to make you better.
Jaehee tried to make you get out of bed to eat, but wasn’t successful. Zen tried to make you laugh with funny videos, which you turn your back on him. Yoosung tried to make you turn to video games for comfort, but he didn’t succeeded (he left with teary-eyes). Heck, even Seven tried! Well, tried as in making you a device but you ignored it.
Until Jumin was the one who ultimately made you stand up and eat. He said that if V sees you like this, he would be very disappointed and worried.
“He doesn’t care, Jumin. Give it up.”
“He DOES care, [Y/N]. Now, don’t be a child and stand up and eat.”
And that led you to arguing with him. You screaming that he doesn’t know what you feel, how it feels to lose a friend, and how you want to die. Until Jumin screams back at you,
“I ALSO LOST A FRIEND!”
You stopped. You literally froze as tears began pouring out of your eyes, now feeling guilty. You weren’t the only one who lost V, Jumin has and even Seven, who sees V as a father figure.
After that time, you started getting better. Jumin insisted you work in C&R, so you decided to agree. Life was turning for better until MC joins the RFA.
Ever since MC joined, many things have happened. You discovered V was still alive, how Rika tortured him and Saeran, how she’s the mastermind behind Mint Eye, everything was too much for you.
Even though you had a grudge against V for lying about his death, your hearts yearns for his presence. But when you saw how MC was persistent to save V, you joined her.
In saving V, you also saved Saeran. V apologized profusely to you and you forgave him. You thought everything was working.
But when V disappeared once again, you were sick of it. Sick of V always disappearing, so you cut your ties with the RFA. You moved into another country and lived there for the rest of your life, living behind everything you knew about them.
After years of living in a completely new country, you received a message in Korean. You saw it was from Jumin, you want to ignore it but you decided to read it. It was a picture of MC’s and V’s child. Then Jumin send another text saying, “Come back, he misses you.”
You decided to return, only to be greeted by the RFA in the airport along with V and his child. You stared at them for a while before returning your gaze to V. Your lips turned into a smile, “hey.”
V smiled sadly at you, “hey.”
Overall, LOTS of obstacles you have to face in order to have this friendship. But there’s a saying that, “If you can say goodbye, then you can say hello once more.”. No matter how much you two have been separated by fate, you two will always be friends.
Tumblr media
Saeran
You two would meet after he was saved by MC and Seven from Mint Eye. He would, of course, be hostile to everyone, even you. You two will meet when buying ice creams in a ice-cream stand.
He would push you away immediately if you want to get close to him, with his mindset in him still being dangerous and you untrustworthy.
But if you start meeting every time Saeran goes out, you would slowly warm up to him. He would, at first, think you’re a stalker since its strange for the two of you meet everytime he goes out. He, of course, would still be hostile with you.
If you manage to break his walls, he would slowly but surely open his heart for you. He’s still wary of you, that doesn’t change.
You two will hang out either at their home or outside, near an ice-cream stand.
People would not mistake you as a couple since they don’t look at you. Saeran glares at everyone who stares at you two, they’ll probably think overprotective brother instead.
He will NEVER bring up his past, ever. Even if he’s comfortable with you, he wouldn’t bring up his past. He’s still afterall afraid of what you’ll think of him.
You wouldn’t know about his past, unless Seven mentions it. But you better never pry on it.
You know when Saeran is comfortable with you since he lets you sit near him and shares his ice-cream with you, which lead to a pouting red-headed twin as he stares at the two of you from afar.
If he has nightmares, he would lash out to anyone who’s in the same room as him. If you’re in his room and he has a nightmare, expect Saeran jumping on you and chocking on you. It’s either Vanderwood and Seven who has to push him off you to let you breath.
He would, of course, feel guilty for almost killing you so he outright avoided you. It will go on a while since he’s stubborn. You have to be the one to reconcile your friendship.
He always holds your hand, squeezing sometimes. It’s a tell-tale sign to him that you’re still here and not somewhere else. He trusts you so you better not crush it.
He’s like Seven in so many ways. When he trusts someone, it’s usually whole-heartedly. But, like Seven, he’s scared to break down his walls. To let someone enter into his heart only to rip it out. It’s too much for poor Saeran, so he cage himself.
If he starts to like MC, you could immediately tell. You would endlessly tease him about him as he tells you to shut up with a flushed face.
In secret though, you would have a talk with MC about Saeran. She would understand that you’re just worried about your (tsundere) friend, and she promises to love him for eternity. (COUGH reset COUGH).
You would definitely be his Best Man (even if you’re a girl), he would fight anyone who oppose it. (LOL I can totally see this happening).
Overall, this friendship is similar to Seven’s. It’s beautiful and it’s built on strong trust to one another. Pls don’t betray this ice cream bby. ;-;

Sunrise - Jihyun/V x Fem!Reader Pt 5
I couldn’t resist. Have some angst.
Part 5: He’s To Blame
               “So where are we going again?” I ask, making another turn.
                “It’s a meeting for that charity I’m part of. More of just a get together really.”
                “And you want me there?”
                Jihyun’s fingers flex against my thigh where his hand rests. “Yes. I want your opinion on a few things. Also I need you to drive.”
                We arrive at the C&R building where we’re escorted to an open room arranged with some furniture. Jumin and Jaehee are already here, probably due to not having left. Saeyoung and Saeran are here too, with Saeyoung pestering Jumin about his cat.
                Jumin spots us first. “V, you made it. And you brought _____.”
                “Actually, she brought me,” Jihyun replies cheekily. “Also I wanted to discuss making her a member.”
                “What?!” I blurt out.
                Saeran folds his arms. “That’s why they brought me here too,” he grumbles.
                “Great. So they can haze us together.” He cracks a smile and we join together in pestering the members about hazing rituals.
                “Hell. They’re not even going to light us on fire,” hums Saeran. “This may not be that bad.”
                “For the last time, we’re not hazing anyone,” Jumin sighs. “Are you sure you want them part of our organization?”
                “We kept Saeyoung.”
                “Hey!”
                “Yes, but he’s in charge of security, even if he is somehow stupid and smart at the same time.”
                “I’m right here!”
                “True, but I was thinking that _____ could become our new coordinator and Saeran could be in charge of decorations.”
                Jumin lets out an annoyed huff. “Ultimately, it is your decision.”
                “Come now. I’d like to hear opinions from all the members.”
                A knock signals the arrival of Zen and a young, blonde man. The stranger is so care-free at first but then his face darkens.
                “Hey everyone!” Zen greets. “Let’s get this meeting started!”
                With that, the members speculate on the benefits of adding me and Saeran to their ranks. There really aren’t any objections to either of us, but I notice that the blonde stays very quiet, only speaking when directly asked a question. Ultimately, they agree and we become members of the ‘RFA’ and they start bringing in refreshments.
                I get pulled into a conversation with Saeyoung and Zen while Saeran and the quiet man observe more than participate. However, when Jaehee brings out a plate of cookies, Saeran finally shows some energy with his brother following after him. So I begin talking to Zen about his recent productions and gossip about the work of other costume makers. But then even Zen excuses himself.
                “Be right back. Need another drink,” Zen sings, getting up and leaving me alone with the blonde who hasn’t said a word.
                “You must be Yoosung. I’m _____. It’s nice to meet you.” I greet, trying to break the ice.
                The young man hesitates but does eventually respond. “Uh, hi.”
                “So I hear you’re in veterinary school. How’s that?”
                Yoosung is an awkward person, acting as if I’m forcing him to sit here and have a conversation with me. From what I heard from everyone else, he’s normally a bright, naïve person. Though I’ve also heard he’s not exactly fond of Jihyun but I haven’t pressed anyone for that story. Still, I’m trying to be polite and he’s regarding me like a predator. It’s kind of rude considering this is our first meeting.
                Eventually, Jihyun calls from his conversation from the corner. “_____, we should probably go soon.”
                “Alright.” I smile at my conversation partner. “Sorry. I guess-”
                “What is he to you?” The fire in those eyes is so bright and seems so foreign to his face. It’s caught me off-guard.
                “Huh?”
                “Are you and V dating or something?”
                My brows furrow and I start to feel uncomfortable. “Yes. We’re dating. But-”
                “You shouldn’t be.”
                “Excuse me?” I don’t know if I should slap him or be shocked.
                “Did he tell you about Rika? His fiancée?”
                The word strikes me because Jihyun most certainly did not mention a fiancée and I absolutely do not want to be a home-wrecker.
                Yoosung leans closer, the fury only growing. “Did he tell you that he lied to us about her committing suicide? Or that he drove her to madness? That he drove her to kill herself for real?!”
                Standing abruptly, I step away from him.
                “What’s going on here?” Zen demands, suddenly reappearing. I get closer to him to be further away from Yoosung.
                Yoosung stands as well. “She’s dating V!”
                “So?”
                He gets to his feet. “SO?! Are we just going to let him destroy someone else?!”
                “Yoosung, calm down.” We have everyone’s attention now.
                “No! It’s his fault Rika is dead! He said so himself! He caused her to be like that! He didn’t even cry!”
                “Yoosung!”
                Glancing to Jihyun, I can see the guilt written plainly on his face; he believes every word. I hate that look.
                “You expect me to stand by and watch him do that to her too?! She deserves to know what kind of monster he is!”
                “THAT’S ENOUGH!” Yoosung ignored Zen but he seems to acknowledge my outburst. “I don’t know what happened with Rika, that’s between the two of them, but I know it still hurts him. All I need to know is that he’s trying to recover and trying to be a better person. And I will do everything I can to support him.”
                Yoosung stares at me in disbelief that quickly turns to rage. “You’re right. You don’t know anything! And you probably never will because all V is good at is making secrets! He kept everything from us! From me! Her FAMILY! She begged for his help and he did nothing!” He’s worked himself into tears but is still furious. “So why does he get to live and be happy when my cousin is dead?! She was happy and bright and helped so many people and he killed her! So why is he still alive?!”
                Before I can even comprehend the thoughts, I’ve already done it. Blood is rushing into my palm to alleviate the sting, though I’m sure it’s nothing compared to the red mark forming on the young man’s face. These people have known Yoosung far longer than they’ve known me and I expected them to yell at me, but it’s deadly silent in here.
                “How dare you,” I glower. “How dare you wish someone else dead when you don’t even know him!”
                “Rika-”
                “WHAT ABOUT HER?!” I interrupt. “You probably didn’t know her all that well either!”
                “She was my best friend!”
                “And he was her fiancé! What the hell makes you think you knew more about Rika than the man who was going to marry her! Or were you so infatuated with her that you thought you’d be the one waiting for her at the alter?!” He bites back a snarl. “You’re not the only one suffering over what happened and no one else here is being an asshole! Is this how Rika would want you to remember her?! Would you be proud to show her this side of you right now?!”
                Yoosung’s anger falters and he begins to sob into his hands. My chest heaves and my throat is scratchy, but I feel bad for him. He must feel so alone right now, but none of that justifies his actions. Though I can’t exactly condone my actions either; plus now I’m beginning to wonder just what happened between Jihyun and Rika.
                Zen wraps an arm around his friend and begins leading him away. “Come on, buddy. You’re gonna have one hell of a hangover in the morning.” The actor gives me an apologetic smile. “Sorry. I should’ve kept a better eye on him. He’s normally pretty cheery.”
                “I hope so,” I say sadly.
                A hand takes my elbow for attention and Jumin stands close. “I think you need to take V home.”
                I glance past him to see my boyfriend barely holding his composure. I sigh, definitely feeling my own guilt now. “I’m sorry.”
                “You shouldn’t have reacted so aggressively but he was way out of line. But it’s over now and V’s going to need you to show him that same faith.”
                “Thank you, Jumin.”
                “I should be the one thanking you. You stood up for him. And you’re taking care of him.” Jumin has always kind of intimidated me, but the soft smile, the one telling me just how much he cares for his best friend, makes me think maybe we could get along.
                With a nod to Jumin, I make my way to Jihyun. “Sweetheart, I’m so sorry.”
                His hand extends which I take. His posture is so stiff. “We should go now.”
                We bid rest of the members goodnight and head out. The drive home is quiet and I can feel the depression rolling off Jihyun. It kind of makes me wish I’d hit Yoosung harder, but I have to remind myself that that was not appropriate.
                I spend the night trying to get Jihyun to open up again, but it’s clear that Yoosung’s words affected him. Whatever he’s remembering, it’s dragging him into the dark again. Eventually, I have to give and go home for the night, but I spend the entire night worried about him.

The Ones Who Walk Away- Ch 2- Reunion in the Kitchen
Another part of the Yoosung/Seven story I started here: https://risingfire17.tumblr.com/post/620333290927357952/sunday-school-shenanigans-yoosung-x-seven-mystic Now they meet again for the first time after 4 years.
                 By the time I was 14, I had long forgotten that strange day at the cathedral. I had far more important things on my mind. High school entrance exams were coming up, and I had my eyes set on one school and one school only. It was one of the most prestigious schools in all of Korea, and my sister was finishing her final year there, after which, she would be attending university at a prestigious American institution. To say I felt pressure to follow in her footsteps would be a monstrous understatement.
                 I was already top of my class at my junior high. Of course my parents were proud of me, they never hesitated to remind me of my sister’s accomplishments and how excited they were to watch me perform the same. I couldn’t let them down.
                 So I studied hard and participated in a lot of community service. My parents were divided in their reactions to the latter. My mother worried that too much distraction from my studies could cost me my rank, but my father insisted that these days, I would need more than just good grades to get into a good university. I tended to side with my father, but I promised my mother I would never allow anything to compromise my grades. She would always look at me with resigned eyes before kissing my forehead and telling me she knew I wouldn’t.
                 Honestly, I knew why my mother didn’t like the community service. She was worried I would turn out like my cousin Rika. My aunt and uncle had adopted her when she was young, only to disown her when she dropped out of high school to marry Jihyun. Honestly, she didn’t seem to be doing bad. Jihyun had inherited a great deal of money, and he had become a famous photographer under the pseudonym “V,” making quite a bit of money in his own right. They were working hard to start a fundraising association for philanthropic causes. It was my cousin’s dream come true.
                 I had started doing community service as a child because I was swept up in her dream of making the world a better place. She’s always said that creating smiles on people’s faces is the most powerful of magic. I understand what she meant when I see the smiles I have put on other’s faces, be it those of my parents when I earn another award, or those of the hospital patients I sing to when they are sad. The warm, bubbly feeling that grows in my stomach seeing those smiles, knowing I created them, it’s a feeling of power, of confidence. It’s like I’m so sure of my place in the world.
                 I don’t plan to drop out of school like Rika did, though. I must get good grades and grow up to get a good job so I can be a proper man and take care of my own family someday. Of course, that’s so far in the future I can’t imagine it. It was strange to believe I’d have a wife someday, when I never even spoke to girls now, or really much of anyone. I was no longer bullied like I had been in elementary school, but I still wasn’t close with any of my classmates. Still, if I had to imagine having a wife someday, I hope it was someone strong and kind like Rika. And for that, I’d have to become a capable man like Jihyun.
                 Which was why, as soon as Rika, Jihyun, and I returned to their home from their latest event, and we had finished unloading their car, I pulled my English reader and my English to Korean dictionary out of my pocket, so I could get more reading done while I waited for one of them to take me home. English was the only subject I ever struggled with and falling behind even a bit would shatter my class rank.
                 It was a good thing I had brought these study materials with me, because it seems an urgent matter came up, and they would need to return to the place they just were right away. I told them not to worry about me, that I would be fine waiting for them.
                 Before they left, Rika gave me a sealed envelope and looked at me seriously. “Yoosung, someone will be here while we are gone to help with my computer. This is his payment. Will you give it to him?” She bit her lip after asking, as if she thought the task of paying a repairman would be too much for me. I reassured her it would be no problem. She still looked strangely hesitant, but she still gave me a soft smile and thank you as they loaded into their car.
                 And for a while, all I cared about was my reading. Until I heard noise in the kitchen. Why would there be noise in the kitchen? No one else was in the house, right? Was this a burglar? In broad daylight? That made no sense. But still, I had to check. Someone might be trying to hurt my cousin, after all! I took the poker from the fireplace and made my way to the kitchen. Despite my racing heart and sweaty palms, I made myself look into the kitchen….
                 And came face-to-face with a boy not much older looking than myself. He wore baggy blue jeans and an equally baggy black hoodie, unzipped to reveal a white shirt and a dark metal cross hanging from his neck. He had shaggy red curls that fell into his face, and golden eyes that hid behind far too large spectacles. He was tall and incredibly skinny-looking, though that could be because he was hiding under all those baggy clothes.
                 He turned around at my gasp, sandwich raised halfway to his mouth, Rika’s refrigerator door closing behind him. His eyes widened, probably realizing he was caught. But I didn’t want to hurt him. He didn’t look like the dangerous intruder I had expected. Maybe it was all that charity work getting to me but he looked…like maybe he needed help. Maybe I could help him. Realizing I still held the poker, I hastily moved to put it down.
                 Before I could fully lower it, however, the boy sprang into action. In a swift movement, he’d grabbed the poker in both his hands before I had even been able to remove my own from it. With ease, he spun me around and into the wall, the poker folding my arms in on themselves and sitting dangerously beneath my throat.
                 I take back what I just thought about him not looking dangerous. He’d just made it perfectly clear he could hurt me quite easily. I didn’t try to move; I didn’t even breathe. I just watched him.
                  His face still didn’t look particularly menacing, although that kind of thinking had got me in this mess. His golden eyes scanned me like he was sizing me up. When they settled back on my face, he hummed and the corners of his lips curled into the slightest hint of a smirk.
                  He leaned in close to my face, and my heart started thumping so hard I thought it would burst out of my chest. Oh god, what was happening? Was this the end? Was he going to kill me? If he was, could he just make it fast? Wait, why was his face so close to mine? I could feel my own face heating up. I might be about to die, but I couldn’t help but feel exposed and embarrassed under his golden gaze.
                   Finally he spoke, in a light, jovial tone I was not expecting. “You really don’t want to put that down till you know who you’re dealing with, cutie!”

What The Heck I Gotta Do? (Yoosung Kim x Reader)
A/N: I was originally going to write a fic based on this song for a different character, but as I listened to it I realized that this song is Yoosung in a nutshell. I do not own Mystic Messenger, any of its characters, or the song "What the heck I gotta do?" from 21 Chump Street. Enjoy!
Sighing, Yoosung rested his head in the palm of his hand, eyes gazing dreamily at the back of your head.
Wait, was that weird?
Purple eyes darted back down to the mindless notes he'd been taking on and off during the course of the lesson. What class was this again? Maybe he should've paid more attention, because his notes didn't give him any hints. The entire paper was basically just one big  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Sighing again, Yoosung looked up, trying to pay attention to what the professor was saying instead of wondering what you were thinking.
'She can probably feel you staring at her, idiot! Don't be weird!' he scolded himself, face reddening just the slightest. Could anyone really blame him for staring though?
Not only were you the newest member of the RFA, but you just so happened to be a classmate of his as well, in not one, but two of his classes! The fact that Yoosung found you the most beautiful person he had ever met didn't help either.
Needless to say he switched seats so that you sat in front of him, sharing little conversations with you whenever the opportunity presented itself. He even got to eat lunch with you!
Now by no means was Yoosung a prideful person, but he had to admit he harbored a faint smugness over being the only member able to interact with you in real life. The others could only talk to you through the chatroom or via phone calls and messages, but he was able to see you face-to-face and he felt closer to you because of it.
What drew him to you in the first place? True, your personality shared a faint resemblance to Rika's, but there was something different about you, something that made his heart swell and flutter like a lovestruck schoolgirl's. You were so mature and kind, diligent in your work, not to mention strong and serious when the situation required it. As time went on and he grew closer and closer to you, he found it wasn't hard to fall in love with you.
There was only one problem. He had no idea if you felt the same.
When the other members flirted with you, you responded in kind, but that was just being playful, right? It didn't really mean anything, right?
Whenever Zen in particular openly flirted with you in the messenger, Yoosung couldn't help but feel all tingly and wrong inside, the urge to draw you away from the tall, handsome male making his hands clench around his phone. He wanted to think you showed a special interest in him, but he had no way to know for sure.
Except...
The beginnings of an idea began to take shape in his mind, an idea that could end in extreme awkwardness or charming success.
Pulling out his phone, Yoosung made sure to keep the device safely out of view beneath the desk, hiding it from any prying eyes. His fingers seemed to move on their own, typing out a message he probably should've checked before sending. When his brain finally did catch up and register the words he'd written, his heart dropped into his stomach, a small gasp escaping his lips.
"What the heck I gotta do to be with you?"
Followed by:
"Who do I have to be for you to be with me?"
'What are you thinking?! How cheesy can you be?!'  Yoosung screamed internally, his horror growing as he saw you pull your phone out of your pocket, it's screen illuminated with a new notification.
Gluing his eyes to his notes, he tried to act like nothing happened, hastily scribbling whatever the professor was saying. A few seconds later his phone vibrated with your reply and the blonde couldn't disguise his fervor as he answered it, dread and excitement making his stomach turn.
Unlocking his phone and tapping on your message he found a neutral :) staring up at him.
'Yes!!!'
It wasn't quite an acceptance of the feelings he'd made so obvious for you, but it most certainly wasn't a rejection either!
From that day on you and he texted day and night. He really hadn't met anyone like you before. You listened to all his problems and even let him copy your notes from the lessons he spent daydreaming about you!
The blonde couldn't remember the last time he felt this way, if ever. It was like a ray of sunshine had made its way into his heart, filling it with warmth and light. As cliche as it sounded, you were his angel.
Well! There was only one thing left to do!
Gathering his courage, he called you one night before going to sleep, ready to lay everything on the line and confess.
...He went straight to voicemail.
Blinking, he stuttered for a few seconds after the beep went off, leaving a jumbled, "H-Hey, (y/n). I um...I just wanted to call, but uh...I had something really important to tell you, but I guess you're busy right now, so um...call me back when you can!"
His brow furrowed as he stared at the piece of technology, your number flashing on its screen. You never missed a phone call and it wasn't even that late.
'Did something happen to her? What if there's been an emergency?! What if she's in trouble?!'
Pulling up the messenger, he sent you a quick text, asking if you were okay. The minutes ticked by with still no response from you and Yoosung's worry only grew, leaving him unable to sleep as he stared at the phone lying peacefully on his nightstand. Turning to bury his face in the pillow, he groaned.
Reason told him he was probably overthinking things. Most likely, you were okay, safe in the apartment that used to belong to his cousin and he was just being clingy.
His adoring heart told him otherwise. It told him you were kidnapped, lost, alone and scared somewhere he couldn't find you, and that he needed to see you and make sure you were okay.
Unable to decide which to listen to, Yoosung didn't get a bit of sleep that night, relying on the magical powers of coffee the next morning to give him life. When he got to school, his first priority was to find you and make sure you were okay.
He didn't think you would be the one to find him.
"Morning, Yoosung!"
The blonde whipped around at the sound of your voice, the contact of your hand on his shoulder. For a moment, all he did was stare, expressionless. Here you were, perfectly fine, nothing wrong.
Your face shifted as he continued to regard you so blankly, confusion replacing your morning happiness. "Are you okay? You look a little t-!"
"(Y/n)!!!" Throwing his arms around you, Yoosung buried his face in your neck, relief making his knees tremble. "I was so worried when you didn't answer me last night! I thought something horrible had happened to you! I thought maybe you had been kidnapped and that I wouldn't be able to find you and then I would never get to confess to you and-!"
"Yoosung!" Your hands cupped his cheeks, forcing him to look at you and effectively silencing his rant. "My charger broke yesterday! My phone's dead until I can get a new charger this afternoon! I haven't seen any of your messages!"
He blinked, small tears forming at the corners of his eyes. "Y-You haven't?"
"No! I'm okay, see! There's no need to worry!" The concern on your face softened, affection taking its place. "You said...you were going to confess to me?"
Yoosung could feel the blush creeping up his neck. Had he really let that slip? "...Yes."
You smiled, eyes bright as you looked up at him, hands still on either side of his red face. "Silly. It was pretty obvious already."
Purple eyes glanced downwards, breaking eye contact. "I know, but...I wanted to make it clear."
Lips brushed his nose and his eyes darted back up to yours, wide with surprise. "Then I might as well make it clear that I like you too, Yoosung."
"Y-You do? Really?" he asked, excitement replacing his embarrassment.
"Of course! How could I not?" Leaning up, you pressed a kiss to his cheek, smiling against his skin. "You're wonderful, Yoosung! You don't have to do anything to make me like you except be you!"
His arms wound around you again with renewed enthusiasm, drawing you against him as he smiled into your hair, planting soft kisses against your head. "Thank you, (y/n)! Thank you so so much!"
"You don't have to thank me, but Yoosung?"
"Hmm?"
"You do realize everyone's watching, right?"
Glancing up, he realized that you were indeed correct. Everyone in the hallway had stopped to watch as he practically broke down sobbing at your feet. Beneath the icy numbness of pre-mortification, he knew he was never going to live this down.
His purple gaze returned to you when he heard you giggle softly, your (e/c) eyes sympathetic as you took his hand and led him down the hallway to your first class. He still felt horribly self-conscious after his emotional display, but there was warmth there too, requited love giving him all the strength he needed to push through.
As your hand held his beneath the desk, giving him little, affectionate squeezes from time to time- you had switched seats to sit beside him- he couldn't help the tired, longing sigh that left his lips.
Why was falling in love so wonderful and so terrible at the same time?

Mystery Woman - Jaehee Kang x Reader(MC)
Happy Birthday, Jaehee!! To the most hardworking, strongest, wittiest woman out there!
~~~
For the past few weeks, Jaehee Kang, the assistant of Jumin Han, has been spotted with a mysterious woman on numerous occasions. High on curiosity, three of the RFA boys -- Yoosung, Zen and 707 -- are determined to find out just who this woman is and what her relationship to Jaehee is.
~~~
f/n: your first name
h/c: your hair colour
e/c: your eye colour
~~~
Behind a bush outsides of a small cafe, three heads pop out from behind. On top is a spunky redhead, Saeyoung Choi, better known as 707 by the RFA members as well as fellow hackers. The second head posses a long, silver rat's tail for hair, as well a stoned, handsome face. He is Zen, a growing actor with the ability to charm any girl with just a look or slinky comment. The third head is Yoosung Kim, the blonde college student boy who spends more time playing LOLOL and fighting monsters than studying for exams and such.
Yoosung grumbles as a tangle of Zen's long hair gets stuck in his mouth. "Bleh! God, can't you just cut your hair?"
"You should let me cut it. I can make you look even more handsome~" Seven slurs.
"Shh!" snaps Zen. "They'll hear us.
Crouching down a little more, they peer through the bushes as the two women conversing between sipping their hot chocolate and munching on biscuits. Yoosung was the first to notice the secret woman with Jaehee Kang when he was taking a walk after a guild battle on LOLOL. The two women were walking with their arms linked, laughing like school girls.
A couple days later, Zen spotted Jaehee through the windows at rehearsal with a woman -- one described factually by Yoosung -- getting off a bus and hugging each other.
The two were incredibly curious of the woman. They first asked Jaehee who she was, but she kept her lips sealed and always changed the subject. If anyone tried to make any guesses, she would become incredibly defensive and protective towards the woman.
Zen and Yoosung therefore asked Seven to try and find out who the woman was when they became intoxicated with the urge to know who she is. However, Seven was surprisingly unable to find anything! Jaehee never posted pictures of the woman online, nor shared seemed to be following anyone with the exact features stated by Zen and Yoosung.
The woman Jaehee keeps seeing... is a mystery woman. Seven set up a plan to follow Jaehee and find out who the woman is with careful observations and hypotheses. To make things the more fun, with the help of his made, he stitched together spy outfits.
The two women laugh from their table, the mystery woman laughing so hard that she leans over the table grasping Jaehee's arm to steady herself. The woman is very beautiful. She has (short/long), (h/c) hair parted perfectly to frame her (s/c) face. Looking through binoculars, she has (e/c) eyes that are like sparkling gems. Her smile is small and simple, but gradually largens when Jaehee speaks.
Yoosung is the first to make a guess; "I think she's her sister."
"Why do you think that?"
The blonde shrugs. "I think that by how close they are. It reminds me of my relationship with Rika. Rika was like a sister to me. Before everything that happened with her fake death, we acted like that; laughing, spending time together, comfortable with each other. You know what I mean?"
"Yes," Zen says, "but I don't think she's Jaehee's sister. Why would Jaehee be so defensive over her sister. Plus, I think we would have known by now if she had a sister."
"I think the woman being a cousin would fit more than being a sister," Seven chirps, "but I think Zen's logic would apply to that again. Why be so defensive over a cousin." A gummy smile breaches Seven's face, and his body shakes with laughter. "Unless she's embarrassed of her. Lololol."
Zen rolls his eyes, turning back towards the woman. As of now, Jaehee holds her phone at a rather awkward angle as the two women try to take take a selfie. Zen grins and inputs his guess; "She's probably a co-worker."
"Co-worker?"
"Yes, co-worker. I think we can determine that they are friends. I bet they're making fun of trust fund kid right now. What else could be making them laugh so hard," Zen concludes.
"You seem pretty confident with your gauge," Seven says.
The striking actor chuckles. "Why of course, it's the only rational conclusion."
Seven makes a 'tch' nose, shaking his head disapprovingly while pulling out his phone. "Look at the time. It's 12:30, Jaehee's lunch break. Now look back up at the women."
Zen looks up then looks back down. "Yeah?"
"Make note of what they are wearing. Jaehee is wearing professional attire and looks as if she just came from the office. But our mystery woman is wearing casual clothings. In fact, she's wearing sweatpants! Does that really look like work attire?"
Zen looks back over at the women and frowns, dropping his head in shame. Seven laughs, smacking his back hard. "You tried!"
"It was a good guess!" Yoosung says.
"Well," Zen snorts, "Who do you think she is?"
Seven beams. "Isn't it obvious who she is?" The two men before him shake their heads. "She's an alien!"
"Are you even taking this seriously?" Zen asks.
Seven lets out a hearty laugh while mockingly flipping his red hair. "Of course I am! God 707 takes every mission seriously. A robot and an alien make a perfect friendship. Don't you think? In the end, it all makes sense."
Yoosung frowns. "Jaehee doesn't like it when you call her a robot."
"You're right, I don't." The three boys jump out of their skin, screaming at the top of their lungs before spinning around to see a very cross Jaehee looking down at them. The woman stands next to her, one hand on her hip, and she smiles rather amusingly. Jaehee crosses her arms as she glares down at the boys. The three stutter out a ramble of words before stopping cold when Jaehee shouts, "You followed me!"
The three boys are too ashamed to look up at her. "We just want to know who the woman is?"
"Me?" The mystery woman's voice is soft and sweet. They all nodded frantically and the woman laughs, her hair bouncing slightly. She takes Jaehee's hand and all the boys note how Jaehee's face turns considerably red. "I'm (f/n). Jaehee, you didn't tell them about me?"
Jaehee frowns, looking down at their hands clasped together. "I didn't know if you'd want me too." (f/n) smiles and squeezes Jaehee's hand before looking down at the boys. She grins.
"I'm Jaehee's girlfriend!" And two women end the mission for the boys on discovering who the mystery woman, (f/n), is by sealing everything with a passionate and loving kiss.
Forget Me, Not
Tumblr media
Fandom: Mystic Messenger
Pairing: Saeran x Matchmaker!Reader
1587 words
Warning(s): angst, mentions of depression
It seemed as if everyone in the RFA was now happy.
Smiles were on everyone's faces as they walked down the streets, into movie theaters, food stands, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and malls hand in hand with their partner.
Their other half.
Their missing piece.
The love of their lives.
The brightness to their world.
Their wall of support.
Their soulmates.
Giggles came from Jaehee and her sweet girlfriend as they linked their arms and spoke about Zen's musicals, something they bonded over.
Yoosung and his cute girlfriend were playing LOLOL together at his apartment, and they were more than likely cuddling on the bed.
Zen and his gorgeous girlfriend were discussing his next performance, since she was now his manager. She'd occasionally comment on his looks, to which he would counter and embarrass her with his own compliments for her.
Seven and his playful girlfriend were more than likely playing a prank on Mary Vanderwood once more, the poor agent was practically at the mercy of their hands now.
Jumin and V were finally together, the poor blind man now ready to undergo surgery for his eyes. Thanks to the corporate heir's smooth way with words, bluntness, and a little push from someone else, he was able to win his former best friend's heart and gain their trusting bond once more.
But MC was now separate.
Distant from them.
Out casted almost.
Forgotten.
Lost once more.
She was the one behind Jaehee's confidence, Yoosung's bravery, Zen's boosting self-esteem, Seven's open personality, and Jumin's sanity.
She was the one that persuaded Jaehee to quit, to find a new job, to look for her special other, to live her life, to prove that a person's job and status doesn't define who they are and that it's okay to let loose every now and then.
She was the one that got Yoosung's grades up and help him pass with flying colors, to decrease his time on addicting games, to search for his special other, to move past his cousin's manipulative hold.
She was the one who helped Zen overcome his past, to see beyond the mirror and see into a person's heart, to help him find his special other, to show that he would be rewarded for all his efforts.
She was the one that helped Seven finally open up and release all the burden of his past and twin brother off his shoulders, to show that secrets are beautiful in their own way, to show that he could lean on others for support, to search for his special other, to show that he isn't alone.
She was the one that helped Jumin see the world beyond black and white, to show him that an animal's affection could only go so far, to prove that it was okay to agree and disagree with someone else's opinions, to help him find his special other, to show him that not everything can be done with money, that the ones you need to hold the closest will forever be the most precious to you.
But through all this, she forgot all about herself.
She was too selfless.
She didn't think of her own needs.
Her own sorrows.
Her loneliness.
Her craving for another's warmth next to her.
Her wish to be loved like them.
Her hope that she wasn't forgotten.
Days turned into weeks, the same room with the same belongings in the same spot. They remained untouched.
MC could no longer bear the fact that the RFA chat was now overridden with the couples' happy messages to each other, describing their day, showing the beautiful pictures they took together, the sweet and romantic gestures they do for one another.
Not a word was said about where MC might be.
No one seemed to notice that one of their members was no longer responding.
No one seemed to take notice of the subtle messages she would give them if she ever crossed paths with them.
No one took notice of the reddened eyes that would stare almost lifelessly ahead of themselves.
No one noticed their precious MC was falling.
Falling further and further down this dark pit of her mind.
Her advice was no longer needed.
Her company was no longer craved.
Her existence was no longer noticeable.
MC was with them one minute and vanished the next.
No one asked where their lovely party coordinator was.
No one asked whether their MC was eating properly.
If she was sleeping properly.
If she was lonely, or needed company.
If she wanted to hang out.
Tear streaked face with a soaked pillow and a blanket was all she could take comfort in.
The tears let her know that she could still feel, her pillow supported her now heavy mind, and the blanket was the only thing she could use to seek for comfort.
MC could no longer remember their voices.
Those voices that were constantly telling her not to give up, that they needed her more than ever, that they wished for her happiness.
She wished to hear Jaehee scolding her about how she shouldn't drink so much coffee.
She wished to hear Yoosung blabbing about LOLOL and his guild warriors.
She wished to hear Zen rambling about his beauty and his hate towards the corporate heir.
She wished to hear Seven talking nonsense about whatever was on his mind.
She wished to hear Jumin speaking passionately about Elizabeth the 3rd.
She wished for anyone, anyone at all, to simply remember her, show up at the apartment, call her, text her, even ask about her.
Anything.
Just to let her know that they still remember her.
That she's not alone.
That she still has their support.
That no matter what happened, she would be a part of their lives forever.
But some things are simply too good to be true.
They appear before you like a miracle.
Then disappear when you need them the most.
She thought they would be different.
But now, she wished she were more careful of what she did.
[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]•[]
Saeran was the only one that took notice of MC's withdrawal from the chat.
He noticed she was never in the chat. She rarely logged into the chatroom.
She was quiet. Too quiet.
This wasn't the MC he knew.
The MC he met was hyper and bubbly, always ready to lend a helping hand, always there for you when you needed it.
So why had she disappeared all of a sudden?
Saeran now noticed something strange.
Saeyoung wasn't checking the cameras in the apartment. In fact, it had been nearly two months since he had last heard from the female.
Inside, it was worrying him, especially since he was no longer in a therapy session. His thoughts were now his own. And he could clearly see that MC was starting to go through what he had gone through as a child.
He didn't want that. He didn't want to see another person, someone that he secretly held close to his heart, going through what he did.
She needed help. And if no one was going to help, he would.
Courage was all he needed, some adrenaline in his blood, and a less nasty attitude with her.
He wasn't going there to scare her. He went there because he cared.
Saeran was the one that introduced MC to the RFA, so he felt he was slightly responsible for this.
But this wasn't like him.
Saeran has never once felt guilty about something he's done.
So why is he feeling this way now?
Why feel guilty this time when he's never felt guilty about what he did to Saeyoung?
He was about find that out.
The moment MC heard the doorbell ringing, she sat up with a hopeful look on her face.
Had they remembered her?
Were they here for her?
She opened the door to come face to face with Saeran.
MC hadn't expected to see him there, but for some reason, the moment her eyes locked their gaze with his, she broke.
Tears streamed down her face.
Sobs racked through her body.
Loud cries of pain erupted from her throat.
He was holding her tightly, her head buried in his chest as she continued to break down.
Her cries of pain could be heard all throughout the building.
Saeran closed the door and led her inside, letting her cry as loudly as she wanted to.
He was feeling his chest tighten.
His heart was pounding.
His eyes became glossy.
Saeran didn't understand anything of this, but he continued to let her cry.
MC couldn't breathe, every breath was used for her loud sobbing.
Her heart was clenching up as if one was squeezing her chest. Her tears soaked Saeran's shirt.
She couldn't believe someone had finally come to visit her.
Someone had remembered her.
And this only sparked the fire in her heart more.
He is her supporter, her wall to lean on when she needed him.
He is her light to the dark path she had taken.
He is her one and only.
He is the one she wanted next to her.
He is the one she wanted to cuddle.
He is the one she wished to hold hands with.
He is the one she wishes to say those three magic words to.
He was her Knight in shining armor.
And MC wouldn't have it any other way.
Summoning Candyman Epilogue ( Jumin X Reader fanfic)
Tumblr media
Fandom: Mystic Messenger Rating : M  Summary: “Jumin Han, Jumin Han, Jumin Han” you repeated in front of the mirror. When you wished for Jumin to be real on Halloween night, you didn’t expect him to turn out to be a criminal lord with a strange pet fetish…  Keywords: Super AU, self-insert, loss of control kink, pet kink, creepy dominant Jumin, criminal setting, yandere, also some Yoosung X Seven and Jaehee X Zen Author’s Notes: Apologies to everyone who expected super filthy sex – after the last scene in chapter 8, my beta and I came to the conclusion that there was nothing left to add, so this epilogue is mainly to tie up the loose ends (though I remain open to the idea of an extra chapter of smut because who doesn’t love more of that, right? XD) That said, it transits nicely for the next project, which I let you discover at the end ~ enjoy!
Chapter 1 / Chapter 2 / Chapter 3 / Chapter 4 / Chapter 5 / Chapter 6 / Chapter 7 / Chapter 8
Chapter 9: Epilogue
“You know, I never understood why he chose to bury you here. It’s just so…not you” Simon stressed, then frowned at his inability to express himself better. He didn’t mean the emplacement of her grave, not really; no one could have argued that the place wasn’t as exceptionally beautiful as the girl it guarded. Delicate flowers constantly bloomed around the headstone, like each of them was a tear from the angel engraved at its top; even the leaves of the willows surrounding it seemed to weep with gentle elegance, which was everything Erika had been.  Gentle. Elegant. And weeping, though most of them were too jaded or tactful to remember that fact.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in a world without suffering, Simon?..” she used to ask. Hopeful, at first, as all idealists are; no amount of problems ever seem too many for serious caritative work to overcome, especially once the cure for the lentivirus was found. Years and repetition, however, slowly moved her focus from those solved to those remaining, until simple math laid the truth bare; it’d never be enough.  For one tree of misery down, a whole forest grew in its place; and while a more philosophical person would have argued that it was even more reason to keep trying, Erika’s fire turned inwards instead.  Guilt for those she was unable to save burned her soul like a fiery sun, and whereas despair drove her mind to radical cultism in the first loop, here she just escaped her cousin’s fretful watch, picked a bunch of syringes and walked straight into an odopium den.
With predictable results, considering the crazed junkies inside, although he wasn’t sure she had anticipated just how utterly brutal a death it would be. If not for herself, then for her loved ones; he couldn’t believe she was so far gone that she hadn’t considered how traumatizing it would be for Yvan to scrap her remains off the floor.  Perhaps she had simply thought they’d choke or bludgeon her to get the drug, and that eternal darkness wouldn’t come first soaked in red.
Or maybe she did know, and chose to do it nonetheless; it’s not like she left a note to explain any of it. V swore it had been suicide by proxy and nothing else, and though it had certainly had been, Simon liked to think there had been more to it; that her recklessness had in fact been defiance, like a giant middle finger to the Fates that governed this world. It comforted him like a mug of hot chocolate, whenever he thought too hard about his own predicament, to imagine there had been meaning to an otherwise pointless end; to entertain that perhaps she had known, too, and sought her own exit. The theory that her own script prescribed that she always brought people down with her could be as good as any, after all; it was possible that she tried a scenario where it didn’t mean for innocents or her fiancé to suffer needlessly.
Not that she could verify it or that it actually worked even a teensy little bit; as such, he supposed Jehan’s choice of scenery made some kind of sense, at least on a symbolic level. Erika slept forever in her little plot of paradise, and the path to it was bordered with hellish gore; people who were crucified, dismembered, hanging by their entrails in a chorus of agonized moans that could be heard all the way up to the bridge like supplicants waiting to cross to the other side, her side, where forgiveness and peace might wait.
They certainly wouldn’t find any on this side. Identifiable as Jumin as Jehan might be, he had none of his Christian faith or capacity for mercy; and while V might have once have the heart to influence his friend, this version actually thanked him for being so gruesome.  Simon would have called it a perversion of the established order, but the recent events made him doubt he could even cling to that as a reference to what was supposed to be.
Hence why he was here.
“I don’t know where to begin, to be honest” he said out loud. Thoughts were bouncing in his head like in a ping-pong game, and it was hard to pick what was the most important. “I know you’d say to start with the beginning, but there’s not much on that side. We found the Chinese goods – thankfully, God, we did, otherwise I don’t know how many people Jehan would have shot to motivate us, I mean he was so pissed when his pet had her meltdown—” he rambled, then winced at his choice of words. There was really no hope if even he had internalized her as pet rather than girl, which was both the crux of the problem and not.
“It broke Yvan, in any case” he continued with practiced detachment.  He wasn’t sure if he had seen the girl or not, but the crazed look in his eyes when he had raced in his apartment left no doubt that he had pieced enough to understand, and, well — Simon had done his best to distract him with his dick, but hadn’t been able to stay hard very long once Yvan suggested he could be his puppy.  It wasn’t just the frail way he said it, like he was trying to make the girl’s plight okay by embracing it too, but his own reaction to the idea; for a brief second, he had been tempted to agree. It’d be trading a scar for another, sure, but Yvan would be happy, and—
He had snarled in disgust, at himself, as a warning, and Yvan hadn’t understood and ran away in tears, and he had been left... not caring, because he really didn’t, but... wondering. For all the worsening of the loop, it was still the first time he thought Yvan could have been happy.
And the girl was happy too, from what he understood. It was a horrible kind of happy, but she was happy nonetheless, blissfully so, apparently. Rumour had it that she rolled at Jehan’s feet every night in an imitation of a cat begging to be played with, with no sound out her lips but mewls of delight. Not that Jehan ever confirmed it, but the walls weren’t totally soundproofed, and she wasn’t exactly discreet in her appreciation of him. And if that was truly the case, then…
“I suppose I should mention her friend too, before going any further” he sighed. It hadn’t been pleasant to go behind his brother’s back and check the logs of his “volunteers” – poor saps who didn’t know better and were roped in with promises of a fat paycheck and an entry point into Jehan’s organization. Once they realized they were to be used as lab rats for his odopium’s experimentations until madness ensued, it was typically much too late.
He wondered if Maria had known the risks and still soldiered on for the sake of her friend, or if her demise at been by design. Another wish gone wrong, phrased wrong, “please, God, give me another opportunity to reach her”, and the next morning in the newspapers, that treacherous ad shining like gold—
Not that it mattered. The only detail of importance was that she hadn’t succeeded, because the previous times her role had; and while he at first had chalked it up to the worsening of the loop, suddenly he wasn’t so sure. Her death, cruel as it was, had after all reinforced the chances of the girl becoming Jehan’s pet, and thus, happy—
And, well, what if the loop wasn’t worsening every time, as he first assumed, but just… reverting?
Which was easily the most horrifying theory he ever had. To think perhaps what he considered the first world was in fact the last, and that the pendulum was just swinging back to its previous status quo, and that everyone would soon become so… twistedly happy again?
He’d rather die than ever having to find out what that meant for everyone, though he suspected dying wouldn’t be quite enough.
“I thought you would understand best” he confessed to the tomb. Since she made the same wish, in her way, it stood to reason she would give him her blessings was she alive.
“I’m going to make another wish to be free of the loop, ‘Rika” he admitted at last, his voice strengthening as his will took shape. “But not for myself, this time. I’m going to wish that every fucked up part of ourselves go their merry way to have their own brand of happy, in their own bibbity bobbity universe, I don’t give a shit as long as it let us return to what is right. Jumin will turn back into that good old robot we all know and love, and his Jehan part will go fuck girls into his obedient pets in another dimension, and it if it means I’m condemning a whole galaxy to misery, then so be it. I mean we’ll never know, right? We’ll be happy. And you’ll be too, this time, damn it.”
There was sudden gust of wind, a gentle breeze like a caress against his cheek, and he smiled one last time before pushing the words out his mouth:
“I wish…”
///THE END (…?)
A/N: “Puppy, why did you end it so quickly? We were just getting to the good part!” I hear you say. Not because I’m tired of writing, fear not, but because as I wrote this story I began to be more and more frustrated by the restraints of it being a fanfic – meaning I had to respect Jumin’s boundaries as a character, no matter how much I twisted him, and that severely limited me in what I could do with him. I dunno for you, but I want more – I want a story with a Jumin-type character where I can go all out on the kink scale without having to hold myself back because shit that’s not Jumin-esque enough. I want him psychopathic. I want him creepy as fuck. I want him out of his yandere mind at power 100000000000.
And so, I thought…why not? Better yet; why limit myself to written words? Why not a drama CD out of it, so we can lie on our beds and hear a sweet maniac romance us into being his pet?
For those still thirsting for MM, fear not, I still have Sharing is Caring to complete! For those who love the idea though, I leave you with this teaser while I prepare further material:
Chapter Two
There was nothing that you could do to change the situation at hand. A life debt to someone that you’d only seen on a poster deemed you useful enough to keep you around. It didn’t seem like he was going to hurt you or anything, but he did want to gain something from your position working with Zen and the others.
It wasn’t as peaceful here as the mayor wanted to paint it out to be, but you had no way of discerning what the hell was going on underneath the surface.
A few days passed without hearing or receiving a word from Unknown. It almost felt like it had been a dream in the first place, but you knew that it wasn’t. Those haunting eyes of his had been very real and you knew it. You decided it was better to focus on your work at hand and worry about the details when it happened.
He said that he would be in contact with you as soon as he wanted to be. But, you had no way of knowing when that could be. The debt had to be repaid and you knew that he would only become satisfied when his goal was achieved. That next morning, you had gone to check out those wanted posters to get a better insight into who he was.
And low and behold, you’d seen those eyes painted on parchment.
Not just his, there were plenty of other criminals listed there with different bounties on their heads ranging from a few hundred dollars to even higher than that. He was one of the higher marks on the paper and that dignified him as a dangerous man. His crimes consisted of theft and robbery but in comparison to the would-be murderers, it seemed like he was just great at getting money.
Well, the rich were always angry when someone was willing to take their money from them. He’d mentioned that you hadn’t been worth the trouble which meant that he only bothered with people who had too much money in their hands. That was likely why they wanted to find him before he’d gotten to everyone in the area.
He wasn’t the only one that you needed to look out for, though.
There were plenty of other faces and descriptions of crooks and criminals. Though, most of the drawings only showed eyes or the wisp of hair underneath the billow of a hat. A pair of golden eyes caught your attention as well, the same reasons listed on his chart as Unknown.
It must have been common to go after those with the most money for the ticket. Though, it’d struck you as a bit odd to see anyone only willing to steal from the top dogs. Most people were just desperate to get their hands on enough to survive or to thrive on their lust for gold. There must have been more to it than that, right?
You had no way of ignoring it, but you knew that it was better not to get overwhelmed with thinking about the little things when you didn’t have answers of your own. So, you spend your time getting all settled into your new job because it was the focus of your day. It wasn’t all that hard for you to get behind the counter and keep up with your tasks.
Yoosung appreciated the reprieve from his job and he had more time to get things done without getting overwhelmed. He’d told you that he planned to leave this town someday to further his study in school but he didn’t have the money to travel as far as he wanted to go so he’d been stuck here at the bar for the time being.
His cousin had gotten him the job in the first place as she’d been in a relationship with Jihyun Kim before she passed away. You heard that she’d caught one of those diseases that nobody had any sort of explanation for, an intense fever and delirium before she ultimately grew too weak to function. She’d be the opposite of Zen on the stage in the old days.
She’d wasted away day by day until she couldn’t come in anymore.
That’d been some time ago but it’d been tough on all of them. Her passing was the reason that Zen reached out to you in the first place, they needed to have someone else to take care of things. He’d regretted to inform you that it’d been sooner or later before you’d joined him on stage.
Not only did she work the bar but she’d been the center starlight for the entire bar from day one. Her eyes and voice… everything about her had given reassurance to the people, and without that, morale had dwindled greatly. Yoosung looked up to her dearly and you understood that he was still having a hard time with his grief.
You felt for him and did offer your condolences.
You being there was kind of a reminder that his cousin wasn’t around anymore, but he didn’t blame you for that. He seemed happy to have the company to chat with again.
Still, your mind had been reeling from the shock of knowing that Zen wanted to throw you center stage.
Had you been able to do so, you would have kicked your shoe at his head.
You’d never performed in front of other people and when you did you tended to get worked up and flustered. Zen was the one that was meant for the stage. You’d always been too nervous to take that place. So, while you’d spent your time behind the counter thus far, you knew that he was going to hoist up there with him.
Granted, for some reason, you were somehow more paranoid about some performance than owing your life to a criminal. It was funny to think about in retrospect.
Well, never let it be said that you weren’t someone willing to question your odds in any circumstance. That woman that had left to work with Jumin Han had always worked there off and on, though not to the degree that Rika had worked there. She spent most of her time counting the books behind the bar, but Zen had been the one to urge her to try it out.
After Rika had passed, Jaehee had taken it upon herself to do those tasks for some time out of respect for the bar and their needs but Zen mainly took care of everything.
It was just tough without her around to pick up those crowds when there was only Zen around. That is to say, they needed more than one person around to charm and delight the patrons and you were just the lucky sap that had answered the call to action. It was okay. You weren’t too torn up about it and it was alright. You’d cross that bridge once you go there.
Working wasn’t difficult, you set into your new routine as easily as you could. Today was just as same as the last few had been… except that it wasn’t.
There was just this feeling in the back of your head that didn’t sit well with you. You did your best to ignore it as it danced in the back of your mind, smiling at the patrons and continuing to do your work as it was meant to be. Eyes always flickering in the direction of the door as if someone was going to show up.
“You seem distracted today, [Y/N],” Yoosung’s comment drew you from your thoughts as you shook from your daydream. “Is something wrong?”
“Oh? Oh, it’s nothing, Yoosung. Thanks for asking,” you waved off his concern and continued to wipe down the countertop. “I just didn’t get much sleep last night. Zen brought over a few of his friends and they were talkin’ late into the night. It sounded like fun so I got caught up in their fun. I don’t know how he functions without sleeping as he should.”
“He’s always having a good time,” Yoosung agreed with you. He placed a glass down in front of you and you gladly took it, water was a welcomed change from the smell of alcohol. You weren’t always enthralled by the company of booze, preferring to drink anything apart from that, the familiar burn of a faded childhood memory haunting you.
“Oh, you’re jealous?” You countered, bringing the glass to your lips as he sputtered. “You know, I’m sure that Zen would always welcome you over if that’s what ya’ want to do. Not that it’s always a party at his place, but he’s got more than enough friends to make a real celebration if he wants to throw one.”
“If my mom knew that I was going over to his place, she’d never let me hear the end of it,” was his response. The heat that burned on his face showed his embarrassment. He still lived fairly close to where his parents were and they kept up with what he did.
Yoosung’s mother was a bit of a worrywart when it came to her only son. It showed when she kept up with him. Your parents hadn’t been like that, per se, but you understood that feeling of knowing that they’d know if you did something they didn’t like. Well… you were technically currently doing just that but it wasn’t like they could stop you.
Still, you smiled at him reassuringly and pat his shoulders with sympathy. “It’s alright, I get it. No worries, Yoosung. You’re only missing out on seeing Zen as awake as a wildfire. It’s not as exciting as he makes it sound. I’m still tired. I don’t know how he does it.”
“I think if I had that energy, maybe it’d be easier for me to attract someone,” he muttered. His cheeks were dusted a warmer shade. You felt for him, really, he always stared longingly at the few couples that did come into the bar, and whenever Zen got anyone to fawn over him, it was obvious that he was a bit jealous of the attention.
“Don’t worry, Yoosung, I bet you’ll find someone who admires you for who you are someday, and it’ll be for the right reason.”
“Thanks [Y/N].”
That reassured him. Though, it seemed like nobody had ever told him that before. It seemed like a real shame. Yoosung was a nice guy. He was kind and had been showing you the ropes from the first day as best he could and you knew that when you did meet Jihyun, you’d let him know how hard that those two boys worked.
It was harder than you’d seen your family work back home. Hours of toiling in the kitchen were far behind you as far as you had a say. Though, the skills and etiquette were paying off. You were happy to converse with the travelers and locals, to be honest. There were a lot of interesting stories to hear and talk about. So many people had seen things that you’d only dreamed of. Like, the mountains, or even the ocean.
Winding valleys, flowers far as the eye could see, cities that held the tallest buildings, ships that knew impossible heights, and more! You wanted to see it all if you could but money was the goal and you’d have to prove yourself to get enough to coast by. You’d never run into things with a plan, anyway, you would make it up as you go.
Your head was often in the clouds… that’s what your parents would say. Well, you’d gotten here thanks to that and there was nothing that you could do to change that fact. It was easier just to follow those clouds to wherever they were taking you. As you settled into this routine, you let yourself get used to the details of what happened every day.
Sometimes, the same people would show up and other times strangers would arrive. Zen had made it very clear to you to be mindful of who you were talking to, and now you were taking that a lot more seriously than you had. It was hard to know for sure, but he’d let it slip in a whisper to you that this bar was neutral territory.
Meaning, this was safe ground for anyone, and that meant anyone.
But, it was that way because nobody was allowed to say a damn word or start a fight. Jihyun said it wasn’t meant for this space. If they wanted to fight, they had better do it in town and not in the middle of the bar where everyone was the same. A patron of the place and a guest. It was a respected rule that had been kept from years prior and it stayed that way.
Though, it meant that any moment you could be chatting with someone not well-intended. It was a rude awakening, just as your first night in town had been. You’d been lucky to still have your head on your shoulders now. Breathing in deeply, you turned back to your tasks.
It wasn’t long before the sound of the door opening caught your attention.
It was just another patron. You spun around to greet the sound of someone walking towards the counter and were surprised to meet golden eyes. Golden eyes and red curls, and it almost reminded you of someone. You nearly had a moment of unease until you realized his eyes were as golden as the sun.
What were you worked up over anyway? Anyone could have deep maroon hair.
His gaze was curious as you stared at him, locked in eye-contact as something was being communicated between the two of you. His hand slid against the ground and you noted the bills in his hand, pressing your hand against it to take it, his lips curled upward as he said, “I think you’ll appreciate the tip, Cereus.”
The color drained from your face but you didn’t let anyone see it. You smiled politely and stashed the note in your pocket as you tucked the bills underneath the counter. Yoosung took the time to come over and greet the guest, and by the time you lifted your head once more, you realized that the blond knew him.
“Luciel, it’s been a while,” he said, placing a drink in front of him. His purple eyes were confused. “I thought you were off at school trying to finish your studies. There’s no way you’ve finished that fast! That’s impossible!”
There was a change in his attitude almost right away.
He laughed, almost jovial and light-hearted compared to that deep look in his eyes. It was… like a one-eighty.
He was wearing a red shirt that had been tanned by the sun and a dark coat slung over his shoulders now that he was out of the heat. The hat on his head was dirted with clay, and those jeans of his had seen better days. The glasses were new though since the frames seemed to be clean.
“Ya’ know me, once I get started on somethin’ it doesn’t take me a long time to get done right away! We should talk about why you’ve not headed off to school yourself yet, Yoosungie. You said that ya’d be followed right after me,” Luciel teased. He clapped Yoosung on the shoulder in a similar way that you had done before.
Yoosung rubbed his shoulder, likely now sore from two thumps, and huffed. “I’m still getting together the money for the next semester. It’s better to be over-prepared. My mom keeps hounding me about it so that’s what I’m up to. I’m just surprised that you’re back.”
“I’m touched you missed me,” he cooed with a chuckle.
“It’s not like that,” Yoosung countered. He glanced back at you and realized that you hadn’t been properly introduced to this redhead. “Oh, [Y/N], this is Luciel. He was off to study on the other side of the country but I guess he’s finished now. We weren’t expecting you back for another year or two. He's such a workaholic.”
His golden eyes met yours once again. “It is nice to meet ya’, [Y/N]. I see that you’ve taken the job up after all. Zen swore up n’ down that ya’ really existed but we never believed him. Granted, he did try to climb on the roof after I tried to show him sweet little Elly, too. I think he plays up his allergies to mess with Jumeow.”
“Elly?”
“Jumin’s cat,” Yoosung supplied from your side with an exasperated sigh. “Her name is Elizabeth the 3rd, though. Don’t let him catch you calling her Elly like Luciel does. I made that mistake once and I won’t live it down.”
Something wasn’t right here. This guy knew Unknown but you didn’t know how and it didn’t appear as though the others knew. If they knew, they weren’t saying anything. This was, after all, space where anyone could come and never worry for a moment about what it meant to be on the side of the law or the other side of it.
He wasn’t showing that same face as before, it was a friendly one now, but you’d seen the glimmer of something all too serious now to look away from the problem at hand. So, you smiled politely and let yourself laugh at his gesture. You hadn’t yet met Jumin, but it seemed like he was quite the character to be friends with. There were still so many things that you had to learn and discover about this place and the people that interacted with it.
Luciel was gone sooner rather than later after letting Yoosung know that he’d be around soon, and to let Jihyun know that he’d been there as soon as the man returned from his trip. It left you deep in the collective thought of who this guy was. The note was itching inside of your pocket until you’d been able to step out of the bar and head in the alley.
You unfolded the note and scanned it for a message. It was hardly anything: ‘Cereus, I need you to be my eyes. No, you will be my eyes. You asked a mighty heavy question about my intentions but I don’t intend on sharing them with you since you don’t need to know. All I need you to do is simple. Watch them. Listen to everyone that comes in and out of the bar every day.
I’m looking for secrets, and I don’t care what you’re thinkin’ is important or not, if you hear anything that sounds interesting, write it down and place your message in the location that I’ve drawn on this map. I do hope you’re better at following instructions than you seem. — Unknown’
Your expression fell. He expected you to work double on top of everything that you were already doing for work. You wanted to tell him off for it, but you knew that if he hadn’t saved you, you wouldn’t even be standing there in the middle of the bar. Your life would’ve ended before it ever really began to start. There was no way out of it.
The note was tucked away as fast as you could put it out of sight.
You had never really done this before, but he expected you to prove yourself to make the debt even. You had to do it. There was no choice, it just didn’t make sense how you were going to know for sure what was good and what wasn’t. You’d barely heard yourself think when it got busy! Shaking your head, you knew that it had to be done.
Thus began a cycle day in and day out.
You would smile and talk to anyone that came around and they would think nothing of you as you did your duties alongside Zen and Yoosung. You now understood that many of them thought you to be someone from the country without a thought in that head of yours. They underestimated you by far and away, chuckling whenever you turned your back to them.
A pretty face who trusted too much.
Well, it had landed you right where they were joking about, whether they knew it or not. It was strange to pry into the lives of other people, but you did it because you had no other choice. That’s how you learned about the state of the lives of people in this town.
There were the things that you expected, all too familiar stories of cheating on their partners, sleazy deals, conversations that made you sick to your stomach, and financial woes. That last one was a surprise to you because the town was painted out to be a place where wealth flowed.
Many people were whispering about the well of gold had been drying up more and more when this was supposed to be a booming center for those who dreamed of tasting it. They weren’t happy about that fact, either, nobody was. It was a whisper amongst the crowd, not that it was easy to come across gold but now it seemed even harder for people.
It was like someone was robbing them blind right underneath their noses.
There were different theories and ideas that you noted, but most of them seemed nonsensical. Never the less, you wrote them all down in order and hid the note at the end of the day at the location that Unknown had told you to leave the messages.
There was this locked box underneath behind a very peculiar cactus and some rocks, and every day when you returned, it would be empty, meaning that he got the note. It wasn’t often that he left you a note in return but when you did, you felt yourself wanting to read more and more.
He would slip a few things to you now and again.
Secrets of his own.
Secrets that belonged to people that traversed the saloon as well. There was truly power in knowing things about other people that they didn’t want others knowing, and he had several people underneath his thumb. He recounted several of them to you, not the secrets per se, but hints that didn’t take long for you to figure out.
He was quite brash but there was a snark to his sense of humor that drew a chuckle from your lips whenever you heard from him. This happened day in and day out over a few weeks as you worked to pay back your debt. When you weren’t focused on your duty in the bar, or working in the back with Zen to work out your routine.
God, you were dreading that.
You took hold of every note from Unknown and used it to empower yourself.
‘Pay close attention to the ones that hang on your every word. They love a pretty face and how easy it is to be treated like they’re important.
Greed might be the biggest taste they have, but they crave that time from people like you or that Zen. I couldn’t tell you how easy it is to twist up someone like a certain man in a blue hat just by letting him have one too many drinks from a pretty server. He lets loose all his secrets.
What a moron, all broken over a pretty face.’ —Unknown’
‘You were right. Three drinks over and he wouldn’t stop telling me how he had it in good with several outlaws. He’s struck a deal with the sheriff to turn in guys to make a turn-around on the mark-ups with the rewards. He gets a cut from whatever the police take from the money and they let him do whatever he wants.
He’s even planning on falsifying reports to earn himself a couple of bucks. There are a few crimes he knows about but he’s going to lie about who did it. It’s disgusting.—Cereus’
‘People out here are only looking out for their best interest. Nothing more and nothing less, that is why I told you that you shouldn’t trust so innocently, Cereus. It should disgust you that these people line their pockets while the rest of society starves for even the smallest drop of water to touch against their tongue in this heat.
Not so naïve now, are you? Now you understand why they must be controlled.—Unknown’
‘Controlled? I don’t know about that. I still don’t understand how you’re using them to bring these people down or whatever you want. I doubt you’ll tell me. But, I think I understand more about this place than I did before. There are so many… people here doing horrid things. I don’t understand why people are like this. It’s just money. It’s just power.
What’s the point? What does it prove? Even hearing that this man is planning on robbing the bank blind or that someone is blackmailing another for cheating on his wife. I don’t get it.—Cereus’
‘You’re so innocent it’s almost cute, little Cereus. Power is the power to these people, and if you want to be able to change the world, you need to have all the cards in your hands before they do.
To beat the monster you must be a bigger monster.—Unknown’
‘Are you implying that you’re the Robin Hood of this situation? Are you robbing them blindly so you can destroy them from hurting others? Is that what these secrets do?
Because, if that’s not the case, I don’t know how you’re any better than the men that want to hoard all of the gold like a dragon hidden in a deep cave. —Cereus’
‘You’re getting quite brazen with me. I don’t recall this fire in your eyes when you were relieved I saved you from the barrel of a shotgun. Tell me, you may be aware of the devils of the underbelly now but are you staying that you don’t fear them?
You owe me your life, little Cereus, it would do you well to watch your tongue.—Unknown’
‘I’m waiting to see what you do, Unknown. I want to think you’re using these secrets for good reasons but it remains to be seen. I’ll keep sending the notes along with these letters. I’m not stupid enough to disregard my debt.
Here, a list of things that have been shared in the bar today. Tell your partner that he needs to stop distracting Yoosung Kim when he drops by, by the way. I can’t keep up with both of my jobs when I have to babysit more tasks.—Cereus’
Weeks of notes being passed between the two of you were a constant in your life and it was only when it stopped for a few days that you started to worry about him. You weren’t sure why you did because he’s only been a thorn in your side with his notes and snark but it had been there for you since the first day.
He made you feel ways that you’d never felt before because nobody had challenged your perspective before and kept you on your toes as he did. Dangerous, but you were already knee-deep in all of this mess. How further could you fall if you tried to understand him?
He hadn’t hurt you.
He’d been nothing but curt with what he wanted and that was more than what could be said about the crooks that you saw every day in the bar. You weren’t sure how Yoosung and Zen were able to handle all of this without thinking too hard about it. Maybe it stemmed from the fact that they were used to this and you weren’t.
How did you grow complacent to crime?
When did it just stop bothering you?
Those were the thoughts that clouded your mind as you wandered home that evening with Zen to be following after he finished up cleaning. You stopped by the cactus once more hoping to see that there would be a note, it’d been nearly a week by that point without talking to him. You crouched down and pilfered the box.
A torn note awaited you.
‘Expect me soon.—Unknown’
As I’m sure you know, there are lots of people who ship characters in Mystic Messenger, but a ship I recently came across was yooran (Yoosung x Saeran) which I found a bit strange since they interacted with each other like once in Saerans route. I wanted to hear your take on it. No hate to the ship of course, but I am curious as to why.
I think I’ve answered this before in the past but it’s been a while since I went over it. I’m not really against any of the ships that people may have in this game like that. I’ve got my own ships that I’m partial to as well, but I don’t often talk on those since I’m normally writing reader-inserts for you all, or I’m writing about my OC ships instead. Anyways, now, I know that some people ship Yooran because of the one bad ending where he kidnaps Yoosung and uses him as an assistant and pet more or less. Or, perhaps they just like the idea of SE Saeran getting to be close to someone that has a lot of hope in his heart to counterbalance his uh exhaustion.
I think the dynamic that they have in their relationship is that of someone that is willing to do everything and try everything once, and someone that isn’t sure at all where to start or if they even want to do anything anymore. Yoosung is one of those people who loves pushing himself out there.  Saeran after what he went through during the Secret Ending is very tired, surly, and quite the sour apple in the bunch. They’re like opposites. so it’s like opposites attract.
When I see people write it out, it’s Yoosung helping Saeran come out of his shell and showing him that he can be someone who can live again. On the counter, it is Saeran reminding Yoosung that he can be his own person and that he can grow past his grief. It’s really kind of sweet when I see it written properly and not in some super heavy Yandere-filled angst fanfiction with Yoosung and Unknown specifically. I don’t personally ship Yooran but I see the appeal in it!
I personally don’t think that SE Saeran will ever be able to be close to anyone in the RFA. The most specific members are Yoosung and Jumin. Jumin because of his close ties to V. Yoosung because of his close ties to Rika. When he’s around them he can only think about how angry he is at what happened and how his hands are forever stained in blood.
 It’s the guilt and emotional exhaustion that weigh him down. Yoosung isn’t to blame for what Rika did, nor is Jumin to blame for what happened with V, but their proximity and compassion for those two very specific people—
Makes Saeran lose himself to an uneasy panic and dread when he’s around them and I just struggle to see him ever getting close to Yoosung without seeing his cousin and... just, not being able to breathe. I think he will always see the RFA as Saeyoung’s friends and not really his. The only one that I can say that he may be able to stomach is Jaehee. She’s straightforward and there’s no room for bullshit with that woman. Zen comes on a little strong.
This is SE specifically. I have a totally different view on perspective when it comes to GE Saeran and his relationship with the RFA. Haha, but when I see Yooran it’s usually with SE Saeran so that’s why I detailed that here. This is just how I feel about it, that’s all. I enjoy seeing cute Yooran art now and again but it’s not one of the ships I’m partial to. I’d have a much easier time telling you about how I think Jumin and Saeyoung is an interesting dynamic.
