New life for the spring - mummy and daddy swan with their very gorgeous baby cygnets, still at the adorably fluffy stage as their adult feathers haven’t grown in yet, on the Union Canal not far from my flat in Edinburgh. More photos on my Flickr

Watching a very cheesy old early 1970s British anthology horror film, one of the short tale featured a very young woman with amazing eyes. It took me a few moments to realise it was a very young Mary Tamm, several years before she landed the role of Romana in the Tom Baker-era Doctor Who

Still hurts, but enough time’s passed for me to get out this bit of catharsis. I miss my kitty.

“A culture that doesn't values its librarians doesn't value ideas, & without ideas, well, where are we?”
Lucien, the librarian in the Library of Dreams in the castle at the heart of the Dreaming in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, artwork by Kevin Nowlan, posted here to celebrate National Librarian Day because books are important and libraries are a vital part of any healthy, mature civilised society.

Rewatching Thunderball recently and reminded how gorgeous Luciana Paluzzi looks in that early Bond film...

One of the cable channels has been showing the 70s/early 80s Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Pure cheese, very silly, but still so much fun. Gil Gerard getting his hairy chest wig out at every opportunity, evil space princesses in spangly space bikinis, Erin Grey gorgeous as Colonel Deering, Mel Blanc wisecracking as the voice of Tweeky, guest starts like young Jamie Lee Curtis. Fun.

An early film directed by William Friedkin (who would go on to do the French Connection and The Exorcist), The Boys in the Band is also unusual for a 1970 film in featuring an all-gay cast, adapted by writer Mart Crowley from his own Broadway play, and features some amazing dialogue and one-liners. It’s getting a restored re-release on Blu-Ray this month, my review is up on my blog
