We're deep in the trenches, mud up to our knees and blood on our faces but your warmth makes it bareable. After the war, I wake up panting from nightmares and I always reach for you, even when I can't bear your touch. We've walked hell together. I've seen you commit the most atrocious of sins but I kiss your blood soaked hand so gently because I understand. I was there with you. I cannot bear to ever part from you.

Just. Falling in love in the middle of a war is so tragic and gritty but there's just something about finding softness in the hardest of places.
