Idk if u this is too spoilerly… but what’s Rei’s relationship with Hotaru, Shun, and Yuuna?

... Well.

I kind of answered that question in narrative form already (FF.net/AO3), but if you want me to talk about it directly...

Hotaru is their oldest sister, of course :D

I admit that, back when I started plotting things for the future and I started coming up with ideas for this family, Rei wasn't really in the picture all along because I wasn't even 100% committed to her character and role in the story yet. Hence, there's a lot of art that doesn't feature her with the Sokkla family since I didn't quiiiite know if I would find a role for Rei in the story after I started pondering to make her Zhao's illegitimate daughter. Of course, back then, Azula's Part 3 looked way bleaker than it has been (believe it or not...), precisely due to Rei's absence. I also didn't know for sure that I would find a way bring Song into play either, back then. So, once I finally realized the kind of role Rei could play, Azula's storyline became soooo much clearer and a lot more engaging than the non-stop miserable mess it was shaping up to be without Rei's presence, and Azula's bond with Rei has been one of the greatest highlights of her story so far.

Now then, the question about Rei's role in this family may be tricky to fully explain: Sokka, in particular, will do his best to give Rei space and respect her bond with Azula. He's had nothing to do with this bond and he doesn't want to push his way into Rei's life just because he's Azula's significant other. Once he gets to know Rei, he's going to be very proud of Azula for helping her as much as she did... even so, Sokka would never act entitled to having a parenting role in Rei's life just because Azula does, so their particular bond is one that will take longer to bloom into a full familial one, even if it ultimately will be positive too, but Sokka leaves it up to Rei to decide what kind of role she wants him to play in her life.

But you were asking about the kids rather than Sokka, sooooo...

Hotaru absolutely adores Rei. Rei will have been part of her life all along, looking after her and being a very loving big sister to her. Theirs is definitely a sweet bond, one where Rei is to determined to make sure this child has a safe place with her (tbh Hotaru has a lot of safe places, haha). Their natures are surprisingly similar, so, as much as Sokka and Azula may joke around and say that Hotaru surely takes after Kya since she's the nicest person in either of their families? Deep down I think they all know that Hotaru's nice and easygoing personality has been greatly influenced by Rei. Little Hotaru looks up to her big sister a lot, and she thrives in being with her as often as possible. Basically, they're wholesome beyond belief xD that's the way this relationship works.

Now, then, Shun... I wouldn't say they get along quite as well as Hotaru and Rei do, but Shun also looks up to Rei quite a bit and is often trying to impress her. Shun is a chaotic little one, admittedly, a born leader in many ways, has a certain effortless charisma... but that charm of his kind of doesn't work as well with his family? xD so he's a lot more careless, a sillier kid with his siblings and parents than he is with friends, as you may have noticed, particularly in Underneath Starlit Skies :'D his dynamics with Rei are definitely those of an older sister who can get him in line when he's being too chaotic. He really likes her and wants her approval whenever he's up to something, and he'll definitely beg her to check over his homework to make sure he's getting things right. He has other closer bonds than with Rei, but theirs is a healthy sibling relationship regardless :D

As for Yuuna, these two get along on a very particular level... that is, the scientific level! Yuuna's scientifically-inclined mind particularly vibes well with Rei's, and whatever crazy idea she gets, she knows she can bring it up to Rei whenever she feels the need to and she'll get a very rational answer from someone who will see the potential in Yuuna's ideas. Yuuna is very much comfortable with everyone in the family, which doesn't mean there's no conflict -- she particularly has a fair amount of conflict with Shun after all. But Rei is very talented at getting through to Yuuna and basically speaking her language, to put it in some way. She can give her challenges and ideas that will get Yuuna's wild brain running at full speed. They definitely operate on a similar intellectual level, these two, and that makes their relationship quite positive and unique.

In short, Rei will be the best big sister she can be, a very wholesome, supportive one who never fails to lift the spirits of her littler siblings. She finds them adorable, she cherishes them deeply, and she loves being part of their lives and family. Of course, as there's a big age gap, Rei can get busy and have certain things going on that stop her from being with her family all the time, but her place in the family is 100% cemented, as the story I linked above should give away. Girl is very happy to be the big sister to her three wild little siblings, and they love her very very much <3

I can see a Zutara/Taang/Sukka situation with the movie, Hitch, and I feel like it would be pretty funny!

Hitch would be Zuko. College sweetheart Mai broke his heart because he was too forward and awkward, so he promised to help guys like him get the girl. Katara would be Sarah, a reporter/gossip columnist that is a realist and digs/searches for the true stories of celebrities.

Zuko helps Aang (Albert), a nerdy but kindhearted man get the girl, Toph Beifong (Alegra).

Sokka and Suki would sadly have minor roles, but Sokka would be Zuko’s old roommate who married Suki (technically the guy marries hitch’s sister, so maybe some Sokkla vibes for you nanu??) :)

Anyway, Zuko helps Aang get the girl and tries to have him use his cool, suave moves, but none of them work. Aang’s quirky personality and his flaws are what make Toph fall in love with him. And while those two fall in love, Zuko goes on dates and tries to swoon Katara, and his attempts to be cool also fail! But he fails in the most perfect way that has Katara falling for him.

Then you have the conflict/resolution part where the miscommunication is BAD and then… all fixed haha. Seems kind of perfect/fun to me! Idk, that movie always makes me laugh, and it would be fun to see the ATLA characters play the story out.

Another story would be Crazy Rich Asians with Taang! Aang would be the Rachel Chu in the situation, and Toph would be Nicky. Another good, cute, and surprisingly fitting story for them!

i feel like theres a right answer as to which drink is better but i have literally never had a powerade and the last time i had a gatorade was when i played soccer in 6th grade so i dont remember what it tastes like. i feel the strong urge to taste test them both now so thank you. “Do you want anything from the vending machine?”

No response.

Zuko looked up at Sokka and saw him staring intently at his chemical engineering textbook.

"Helloooo, Earth to Sokka," Zuko said, trying to get his boyfriend's attention again.

Still Sokka didn't look up. He got like this sometimes when he was studying, so focused on whatever equations he had to memorize and what compounds made which chemicals and whole bunch of other sciencey nonsense that Zuko didn't bother trying to understand.

Some of their friends hated studying with Sokka because most of them only studied together to fuck around and goof off, but Sokka always tuned everyone out. Zuko, however, found it endearing. He liked the way his brows furrowed together with intense focus. He admired the way Sokka took his major so seriously, and he constantly amazed Zuko with just how intelligent he was.

But Zuko had been sitting here outlining his own political science essay for three hours.

And he was thirsty.

And judging by the way Sokka had barely moved from his seat in those past three hours, Zuko thought it was safe to assume that he was thirsty too.

"I'll pay for whatever you want, babe," Zuko tried again. As a broke college student, that was a generous offer.

Still, no dice.

Zuko sighed, it was time to pull out the big guns.

"Alright, since you're too busy studying to respond to me, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you want me to buy you a blue powerade."

Blue eyes snapped up and glared at him.

"You wouldn't fucking dare."

"There he is," Zuko laughed.

"I'm serious Zuko, you better not get me that sorry excuse for a drink," Sokka said as he jabbed the end of his pencil in Zuko's direction.

This was a song and dance that the two of them had been in many times before. It all started back in high school when they were still just best friends. Sokka would bring a gigantic blue gatorade with him to every hockey practice and every game. He claimed they were good luck and helped him play better, but Zuko always thought it was just a dumb superstition. During one of their games as Zuko was coming off the ice, Sokka asked him to grab a blue gatorade from the vending machine. The machine was all out, but they did have blue powerade, and being to good friend that he was Zuko thought that it would be an acceptable alternative.

And boy was he wrong.

The second Zuko tossed the blue drink to Sokka on the benches, his expression shifted from something akin to confusion, then to horror, and finally he stared at Zuko as if he had just kicked his pet puppy down a flight of stairs.

"What the fuck is this Zuko?" Sokka said in a hushed tone, lips curled in disgust.

"They were out of blue gatorade so I got that instead, what's the big deal?" Zuko had shrugged.

"What's the big deal? What's the big DEAL?? Zuko, the big deal is that powerade is a monstrosity created by all things evil in order to ruin my life! That's the big deal Zuko," He exclaimed as his arm gestures became more and more frantic.

Zuko stared at him like he was crazy, "...it's just powerade, Sokka."

Sokka glared at Zuko, "Oh no, my friends, this is not just powerade. This is my nemesis. I would rather drink yellow gatorade than this crap."

And that was saying something, considering Zuko had already made the mistake of getting yellow gatorade for Sokka before. The fact that he hated powerade more than yellow gatorade was truly saying something.

Seeing how disgusted Sokka was by the powerade was something Zuko was sure to remember about his best friend for future reference.

And by future reference, Zuko was referring to torturing Sokka about it at any chance he could get.

Zuko stood up and looked back at his unamused boyfriend with a faux-innocent expression, "But I thought you loved powerade?"

Sokka rolled his eyes, "Haha, Zuko, you already know how much I hate that shit. But fine, if you're going to the vending machine can you please get me a blue gatorade please? Emphasis on gatorade."

"Blue powerade? you got it babe," Zuko said as he pressed a kiss to Sokka's temple before darting out of the library. He could hear his protests as he ran out the door, but when he returned with the supposedly magical blue gatorade all was forgiven. (And if you must know Sokka did ambush him with kisses once he saw his beloved Zuko with his beloved blue gatorade.)

Toph and Sokka drunk headcannons💚💙:-

The only thing Sokka loves more than getting drunk is getting drunk with Toph.

When they were younger and underage,these troublemakers would go to bars and try their best at getting a drink specially Toph,since she was three years younger,she always had a bit more of innocence on her face.

Nonetheless they were often kicked out.

When they weren't together and had grown up a little,Toph always tried to keep a little distance from him when drunk because she had feelings for him and he didn't.

She didn't want to start something that won't continue but break them.

Sokka always got bugged by this,the first few times it happened,he went home with a bitter taste in his mouth.

He took this as a sign of them growing up and apart.

They tried to leave drinking after having kids,they stopped for a year but that's it.

They once went to a casino of sorts when they were super drunk,Toph cheated the way she did in "The runaway" and Sokka as always raised the stakes,they won a lot of money that night.

But got kicked out because the owner found it too suspicious.

Toph and Sokka have almost the same alcohol tolerance but Sokka,no matter how high knows when to stop,Toph just throws up and is like "oh, haha snoozles, you knew I was this drunk?!."

Their drunk kisses are the best,they get so high and energetic, every touch and every move they make shakes the other one up.

Sokka loves having drunk sex, it's even wilder than what they do otherwise.

They have the worst hangovers and fights in the morning about who will get hangover remedies like lemon water etc. But there's no winning with Toph so eventually Sokka has to go.

The number of times they have played "shots" is crazy,Katara often goes out of her mind when she sees them drink so much.

Take My Breath Away

It’s the Celebration of Rebirth, an event that occurs once every five years to ask Agni to revitalize the Fire of Life in the land and in his people, so Sokka is not surprised that the Fire Nation would put all the stops for this. According to Toph it’s a celebration as well as a spiritual ritual, which makes the nobles go crazy. Even Zuko had to be up at dawn to get ready, and Sokka had yet to see the Firelord since.

The Water Tribesman sighs forlornly. He wished he could have more morning snuggles with his boyfriend before he left, but well…

Iroh comes out of the dressing room and gives Sokka a smile, “He’s just about done. But you may need to help him. The full regalia robes are not easy to walk in.”

True to his word, Zuko steps out wearing what looks like fifty pounds of clothes. The robes are a lighter color and devoid of the normal shoulder spikes. There’s still the high collar neck trimmed with gold and the Fire Nation symbol resting where the hollow of his throat would be. The topmost robes are a red-orange like a sunset and embroidered with gold dragons. There looks to be two robes just under it; one a dark red, the other a pale yellow. His inner robes are a lighter red with gold trimmings and on his waist are at least four fabrics tightly cinched around the already trim waist. Coming out from the belt are three wide long pieces of red fabric that hang and drop to the floor.

His hair is in its usual topknot with the fire-crown nestled on top, but there’s also a headdress attached which makes the it look like five dragons are coming out of the flames. The dragons at the ends look like they are spitting fire from the red beads that fall from their mouth. The rest of his long hair drapes on the back of his shoulders down to his tiny waist.

Zuko, who is usually so graceful when he walks, is waddling towards Sokka and his uncle. Being an amazing boyfriend, Sokka does his best not to laugh at his boyfriend who is walking like a penguin-otter. However, Zuko seems to feel Sokka’s amusement and glares at him.

“Not. A. Word.” he growls.

“Aw but you look so fetching my Fire Lily.” Sokka teases.

Iroh chuckles behind his hand. “Indeed nephew, you cut quite a striking figure.”

Zuko flushes and turns away. It’s so cute how even after five years on the throne, he’s still so shy.

“Thank you, Uncle.” Zuko mumbles. Then he turns to Sokka and holds his hand out. “Will you help me walk? I’m not used to these high getas.”

Sokka beams and eagerly lets Zuko clutch his arm. “Of course, my lovely Fire Lord.” He coos.

Again, Zuko turns red, and he swat’s Sokka’s arm in retaliation.

“Shut up before I make the servants help me.” He threatens.

“Ahaha sorry sorry. It’s just so easy.” Sokka glances at Zuko and smiles, “But you do look good. Even if I think it’s a little ridiculous for you to have to wear fifty pounds of clothing for this.”

Zuko pouts and goes on a spiel about traditional wear and the honor of wearing the traditional clothes, the spiritual meaning behind each layer and—wow Zuko looks surprisingly out of breath. His cheeks are flush, and there is a slight sheen of sweat on his brow.

Sokka stops and curls his arm around the Fire lord’s waist. “Zuko are you okay? Do we need to stop? Should I get Katara?” His stomach is doing flips into his heart as he watches Zuko try to take deep breaths.

“I’m okay Sokka, I’m just not used to wearing the corset.”

Ahh the corset…

Wait…

The corset?

Sokka tightens his hold on the Fire Lord’s waist and—yep yes that waist is definitely cinched really tight. By a corset. A corset.

“Ah Sokka. Don’t...”

Sokka’s shaken out of his mild arousal fog when he hears Zuko’s breathy whisper. He didn’t even notice how close he pulled them. Zuko’s body is flush against his own. The fabric is wrinkling, and he knows the servants would be so mad but he can’t give a damn right now because Zuko…oh Spirits Zuko.

His cheeks are a lovely pink, his pale skin gleams in the light, and his plush lips are parted as he’s trying to catch his breath. He looks obscene. He looks delectable. Sokka squeezes just a little tighter and—yes, there it is. The slight hitch in Zuko’s breath. The way his voice keens and his fingers tighten against his clothes. The way he draws out his name, “Sokka”. Like a prayer, like a plea. What would he look like if Sokka just squeezes and squeezes until he’s gasping and—

“Is something the matter?” Iroh asks turning back towards the pair.

Sokka immediately loosens his grasp, but Zuko almost falls to the floor like a puppet without strings. So Sokka keeps a hand around his waist and lets Zuko slump against his broad chest. He can see the Fire Lord’s eyes are half-lidded and glazed over, and he’s trying so hard to catch his breath.

The Water Tribesman smiles and waves a hand. “Sorry Zuko’s just not used to all the layers. It’s pretty hard to walk in. Right, Fire Lily?”

“Yes. Sorry, Uncle.” Zuko manages to gasp out. He’s still clutching Sokka’s tunic desperately, trying to get his shaky legs to support his weight again.

Iroh looks sympathetically at his dear nephew. “It’s no problem, Zuko. Should I get the servants to try and shed a few layers?”

“No, no that’s not necessary.” Zuko answers. “You should go on ahead, Uncle. Sokka and I will catch up.”

“Of course. Take your time. We don’t want you passing out before the celebration.”

Iroh nods and walks ahead. They watch until he’s nearly rounded the corner. Then Sokka looks at Zuko with a glint in his eye. He tightens his grip on Zuko’s waist just a little and whispers in his ear, “Catch your breath yet, darling?”

Zuko glares at him, but with the way his face is so flushed and panting it loses it’s power. “Don’t you dare, Sokka.”

“What? You look like you’re about to pass out. I’m just, griping you tight.” At this he gives another squeeze that makes Zuko’s eyelid flutter and bury his head in Sokka’s shoulder as he tries to muffle his obscene moan. “Seems to me, you’re the one enjoying this, Your Majesty.”

“Sookkaa.” He whines. “Don’t. I’m—I’m—”

“You’re what?”

Zuko flushes a dark red. “I’m soaking the robes.” He whispers quietly.

And oh does that make the blood fall down to his nether. He wishes he could strip Zuko down until only the corset remains but not yet. Patience.

So instead he leans to Zuko’s ear and whispers, “What’s making you soak them? Is it because of the way I squeeze you tight and make your breath catch? I never knew you liked it so much, but I can work with that, my love. When this is over, I’ll strip you down until only the corset remains. And then I’ll fuck you as you’re trying to catch your breath. I’ll fuck you until you’re just about to pass out and then I’ll release it. And I’ll make you cum so hard you’ll be screaming and gasping for air. Would you like that, darling?”

By this point, Zuko’s face is buried deep into Sokka’s shoulder. He can faintly hear the soft keening mewls and whispered pleas. The Fire Lord’s knuckles are clenched so tightly they turn white, and he’s trembling in Sokka’s arms.

If only they didn’t have a celebration to get to, but it is important to Zuko so he’ll be merciful for now. Sokka loosens his grip and helps Zuko walk towards the ritual platform. By the time they reach it, Zuko’s flush has died down, but he’s still panting for air.

Sokka goes and sits between Toph and Katara as they wait for the ritual to start.

Toph grins when Sokka sits, “Geez what the hell did they put on Sparky? It sounds like he’s carrying fifty pounds.”

“Haha as good as.” Sokka replies.

“Good thing he doesn’t need to do any big firebending. I don’t know how I would even move in that.” Katara says.

“He looks kinda out of breath. Is he okay?” Aang asks.

Sokka only grins, “Oh he’ll be fine.”

The ritual itself is straightforward, Zuko merely gives thanks to Agni and places his flame in a bowl. Then the Fire Sages contribute their flames until it grows into a huge bonefire. They move the large fire in the center and Zuko declares that the celebration can commence. Throngs of people line up to the bonefire to give their prayers to Agni; fortunately, the guests of honor are allowed to place their prayers in first before it opens up to the common people.

Sokka smiles as he watches his prayer burn in the pyre, and then turns towards Zuko who is waiting for him.

“Ready to go my dear?” Sokka says with a faux bow and flourishes his arms for Zuko to take.

Zuko rolls his eyes and takes his arm. “Yes, I need to sit down. These shoes are killing me.”

“How did they pile all those clothes on you, Zuko?” Aang asks with a hint of a laugh.

“Some of it was a tight squeeze, but they managed.” Zuko answers loftily. Sokka feels his mouth water at the thought, but he does his best reign in his perverted impulses.

Toph raises her brow, “You’re breathing feels off, Sparky. You sure you’re okay?”

Katara, ever the mom-friend, looks worriedly at the Fire-Lord, “Zuko, you’re not breathing right? Maybe you should…y’know ask if you can take some of it off.”

Zuko waves their worries away, “Don’t worry, Katara. It’s nothing bad. The corset is just a little tight.”

“Pft corest? They made you wear a corset? Thank the Badgermoles my parents thought I was too delicate for a corset.”

Katara raises her brow, “A corset? Whatever for?”

Zuko shrugs and gestures towards his waist. “Makes my waist smaller and makes it look like I have bigger hips.”

“Why do you need bigger hips?” Aang asks.

Zuko grins, “Well, the Celebration of Rebirth is, in essence, about giving life and fertility back to the nation. And let’s be honest a small waist and wide hips are quite the symbol of fertility and childbearing.”

The women laugh at Aang’s red face, but Sokka shifts uncomfortably as he stares at the numerous belts cinched on Zuko’s waist.

“Something the matter, Lord Sokka?” Zuko asks with wide innocent eyes. They could trick a man into committing murder, but Sokka knew him better.

The little minx. He thinks wryly. So in retaliation, he slings his arm around Zuko and presses him to his side. He can feel the Fire Lord’s stuttering breath and the way he leans into Sokka’s body, desperately chasing the feeling of his chest feeling too tight, too small.

Toph scrunches her nose, “You’re both disgusting animals.”

Well Sokka couldn’t deny that.

If Zuko thought the day was hard, the dinner is even harder. Sokka took every opportunity to press himself against Zuko and hug him. Tightly.

To the guests at the party, they see it as a sign of young love. Somewhat endearing if a bit excessive. But to Zuko it is nothing less than torture. He needs to remember to beg the royal launders and designers forgiveness when he returns these robes. He’s sure there are stains on his inner robe that won’t be coming off anytime soon. The only upside is that with so many layers, the people can’t see his heavy erection under them.

Zuko squirms in his seat as the corset and restrictive layers make his breath catch. It’s indecent. But so so good. He loves the tight feeling in his lungs. The way his vision dots with black spots, and the delightful way Sokka manhandles him and controls such an important part of him. He hardens at the thought of letting Sokka just take control and squeeze and squeeze until he’s a panting mess under the man’s calloused gentle hands and just at the cusp of unconsciousness.

“Thinking about something?” Sokka whispers hotly in his ear.

Zuko jolts and tries to keep a placid face amongst the leaders of the nations. His heart is thrumming in his chest, and his body trembles at the slight touch of Sokka’s hand around his middle. He shouldn’t be able to feel it so keenly under all the layers, but it feels like he leaves a burning trail all through his waist.

“N-nothing important.” Zuko answers.

Sokka merely smiles cheekily and hums, “If you say so~.”

Zuko tries to stay aware at the party, but it’s getting harder and harder as the night goes on. With each passing hour, he feels like he’s about to crawl out of his skin. It doesn’t help that Sokka keeps teasing him throughout the day and night. Just little kisses and murmured promises and of course the way he wraps his arms out his body and holds him so firmly.

“Nephew you look tired.” Iroh says.

Zuko sighs and drains the glass of wine. “A bit. It’s just a little…uncomfortable.”

Iroh nods, “Well if you’d be so kind, could you help an old man get back to his chambers? That is unless you have something else to do…?”

Zuko takes the offer and says, “No, no. I’m done for tonight. Let’s go Uncle.” Zuko says his goodbyes to the various nobles and friends strewn about. Strangely, Sokka is nowhere to be found. Zuko tries to keep the disappointed look off his face, but by the grin Iroh has he’s not doing a good job.

The walk to Iroh’s bedroom is filled with comfortable talk, and thankfully it gives Zuko time to let his raging erection go down. He bids his Uncle good-night at the door and turns to leave. He doesn’t go a few paces away when Sokka comes up to him with a big grin. He give him a tight hug and asks, “Need some help getting to our room, Zuko?”

Ahhhhhh this is super difficult for me to answer, I have way too many ships to decide on an actual ‘top’ 5 😂 I’m just gonna list off the first handful that pop into my mind because otherwise I’ll probably overthink it, haha.

Yatori - Noragami My forever OTP. I can be pretty flexible and multifaceted with shipping, and it’s pretty common that I have multiple ship options in my head for characters, but I literally cannot see Yato or Hiyori with anyone else if not each other. (Honorable mention to Kazubisha for the same reason - those two are so perfect together and I love how they take care of one another. 🥺) The sheer determination they have to stand by and stand up for one another, no matter what it costs them(for Hiyori, her ability to live a normal life - for Yato, the struggle that comes with being a god falling for a human since that seems to be considered taboo/will be crushing when she eventually grows old and passes) MAKES MY HEART SIMULTANEOUSLY SO HAPPY AND SO SAD. But I just love their dynamic and how true to themselves they are around one another and that they’ve also become the sweet goofy and embarrassing parents to Yukine.

Tokka - Avatar: The Last Airbender These two were right along Zutara in being one of my first ships. I always loved their dynamic, and how eternally supportive they were of one another, even despite all their teasing and rhetoric with one another. Sokka just seemed to get through to Toph in a way that nobody else in the gaang did and their friendship/Toph’s blossoming crush on him made me soft. ❤

Normito - Catastrophe at Sixteen / Seraph of the End I admit, this one partiallyyyy falls into my affinity for the ‘love at first fight’ trope. I always adore bickering/rivalry couples. But, more than that, Norito and Mito just have a really good and strong friendship that I feel could blossom into a really nice romance. I don’t think they’d be a super soft couple or anything(I imagine there’d still be a good portion of time where Mito pretty much just babysits her goofy himbo bf), but I think they’d still keep up a friendly sense of competion and, above all else, would stand by and protect each other even if they tend to bicker or brawl. Norito’s already saved her before, after all.

Karizuki - The World Ends With You These two are basically just team rocket and I freaking love it. You’ve got the hard-working and determined to rise to the top girl with anger issues, and the guy who’s got a great mix of skill and concealed kindness to his name, but who’s not afraid to get down and dirty or play the bad guy. When, of course, he’s not putting off his work. I really like these two for a lot of reasons - Kariya teaches Uzuki the lesson that it’s important to slow down and enjoy life as opposed to rushing through it, and I think Uzuki also teaches him that having passion and some sort of goal is good as well. They have fun banter and obviously care a lot about each other, and there isn’t a moment that passes where they aren’t by one another’s side, even when they’re just slacking off to grab ramen, and I dig that!

Iichako - My Hero Academia Okay I literally only just got into My Hero like a week and a half ago, but I fell in love with this ship almost immediately lmao(though I’ve been torn between it and Kacchako because I think they also have the potential for a wonderful dynamic/bettering one another). I don’t even know how to describe it in full - these two just have so many great traits that compliment each other wonderfully. They both have such bright and vibrant personalities and are unabashedly themselves, but have so much in common. They support their friends, but will speak up if they feel those friends out of line or endangering themselves(big mom/dad vibes). Within only a few weeks of knowing each other, Ochako had already started mirroring all the crazy and wild hand gesturing that Iida does when he speaks which was also a treat. And I just think Ochako’s wild, freespirited and bubbly personality is a really good contrast to Iida’s more uptight, play-by-the-rules routine. And the faith he has in her and her abilities/the support and admiration he shows when she explains her reasons for seeking a career as a hero(where many people would shame her for seeking money) is so endearing.

I’m mad asf I just finished the legend of Korra and yeAh cute but where is Zuko? And Katara? And Toph? And what happened to Sokka and Aang? I didn’t expect the story to be about them obviously, I even grew attached to some of the new characters (Asami love u bby) but I wanted more tribute to ATLA and it left me kinda disappointed, we didn’t see anything related to Zuko’s daughter, a reunion or anything, I mean Katara and Zuko were just. there, and Toph well at least she did something but I didn’t even like her in this series and I used to love her on ATLA, I’m so confused

I liked the show but I have many problems with it, there were so many villains and we didn’t even have time to breathe for a second, I hated how the characters never had a SECOND to talk and catch up after not seeing each other for years, I mean those are the parts where we really get to know the characters and love them, it was all so fast and so many unfinished things that ended so abruptly, I had so many questions after Book 1 and 2.. and don’t even get me STARTED on that scene where Korra tells Zuko that she spoke with (the most perfect character ever) Iroh and Zuko was like “you spoke to my uncle?” (don’t know if those were his exact words, I watched it in Spanish) and she was just starting to tell him and he was just like :’o and then some girl interrupts, like HOW CAN YOU DO THAT AND NOT SPEAK ABOUT IT AGAIN? Holy shit I was so angry, you could see Zuko’s face how he was getting all emotional how can you cut it like that?

Also the thing with the spirits, loved it but NOT for Avatar, I mean spirits yes but that was just crazy, it was too much, or if it was actually a thing at least they could’ve developed it better, it was so meh , what happened with the fucking vines?

On the other hand, loved the animation, the character design (Korra looked.. ahh so beautiful with the short hair, I would actually date her if she was real, but I would marry Asami because she’s just *chef’s kiss* the most perfect woman ever), SEEING IROH AGAIN I STG I CRIED DURING ALL OF IROH’S SCENES WITHOUT STOPPING, and obviously most characters but man I wish they had the character development of ATLA (they had, but so rushed and weird)

Also I honestly don’t know how I feel about Korra and Asami, I mean I would love them together, but it felt so out of nowhere haha I know they loved and cared for each other but we never got a glimpse of something else until that one episode where they both complimented each other and Korra blushed a bit, but it was idk, a bit weird..

fist things first, im still CRAZY MAD at jet for likeeverything but i really really really want a jet redemption, cuz yk, the more the merrier so I'm LOVING his baby steps, he's trying but his brain can't really comprehend that not everything is black and white

oh and idk if this was something you were trying to do but i found a bit of parallelism better how sokka and zuko started to bond and how jet and sokka are kinda bonding (ex, talking in a tent while it's pouring outside, chopping the food and maybe the bath thing(?? i think that's a bit of a stretch but whatever) also, the thing with medics feeling bad for zuko, trying to help him,,, it's a recurring theme

idk but this last couple of chapter have remind me of the past, but somehow better (it's still shit tho)

Actually yes!! You caught on! It feels similar because Sokka was in this exact position with Zuko & he handled everything… not so great. Being too pushy, asking too many forceful questions, being a bit overbearing - and now he is more understanding of Zuko and his struggle to find words to explain things or his inability to open up (because Sokka is going through ALLLLL that right now in similar situations) idk if it will lead to him and Jet bonding but you never know lol.

Yes!!! Reunions are starting next chapter it’s going to be a doozy!! I promise Zuko will get some much needed healing & Sokka will also get a chance to find a secure place to open up and start to deal with things.

Ahhh but then if we go with Taang once again the issue arises where I don’t really ship Sokka with anyone but Toph. Maybe I’d like him with Suki more if we fleshed out her character a little and gave her relationship with Sokka more depth and development? But again I just really don’t like the idea of the first person you date as a teenager being the person you spend the rest of your life with, especially if you totally rushed into a relationship with that person and ultimately don’t know them very well on a personal level beyond that initial spark of attraction. It’s cute and all but I just don’t care for it nor do I find it realistic as an endgame ship.

That's definitely valid! I'm always torn about it, too, because I think in general it's unrealistic and even silly when we pair off characters in a friend group so perfectly that everyone ends up with someone and is happy lmao. But then I'm like, it's fanon! We can do whatever we want, doesn't have to be realistic. I literally fight myself on this idea all the time so I feel ya lol. But I do know quite a few high school sweethearts that ended up getting married so I'm a little biased when it comes to the idea that people can spend their whole life together and can sort of see it happening to ships haha (it definitely isn't as interesting as other fics, but sometimes simple is good. Only sometimes).

And if we can create a character story based off a name, I think we can do some good damage with Suki's backstory ;) This is one Sukka HC I've had in the back of my mind, and it's definitely not as cool or crazy as some of my other HC's, but I think it's a start!

So maybe Sokka and Suki don't end up together after the finale. I like the idea that the whole Gaang go their separate ways and find projects to help rebuild. Sokka would immediately go back home, and I think Suki would either go back to Kyoshi Island or travel with her warriors. Maybe they spent a few days together and preparing for their own missions, and Suki suddenly feels a great deal of dread. She was imprisoned for months (I think), maybe even tortured or interrogated for information because she's the leader of the warriors and has abandonment issues now. The thought that Sokka leaving her scares her, and instead of talking about her fears, she breaks it off with him and says that they should focus on themselves and their projects. No distractions. And Sokka is super upset because all the people he's loved and cared about seem to leave him. That makes him mad that she would just break it off like that, and he agrees that they should break up.

Years pass and they're in their twenties now. The Gaang decides to reunite and Katara invited Suki, even though he requested she not be there since "she wasn't technically part of the original Gaang!"//"She saved your life, Sokka, get over it." So he swallows his pride and strikes up a conversation with her, because everyone else is paired up and in a conversation for him to butt in. And Sokka and Suki hit it off again. They literally talk about everything, and they both admire how much change and work the other has done. At the end of the night, they are about to go their separate ways, and Suki suggests that he come to Kyoshi Island to help with a project. They could use his inventive mind... He hesitates, but ultimately agrees because he mentally set up boundaries for their relationship.

And after a few weeks he ignores the rules he made up and they fall into a FWB situation, maybe? Super casual situation, and they spend a lot of time working together. When he leaves, they're both sad, but agree that this was nothing. No relationship.

But then they miss each other and start writing to each other to pass up their solitary free time. They both come up with silly projects that require each other's skills and for them to visit. Suki's in the SWT with Sokka, and she's noticing all these women coming up to Sokka and chatting, even flirting with them, and she finds herself jealous... Sokka confronts her about it in the most Sokka and sarcastic way possible and she responds angrily, "Fine! I like you! I don't want you flirting with anyone but me." He wiggles his eyebrows and is like "Wow, Wonder Warrior's got a crush on me."

Cue long-distance relationship... it's definitely hard and they don't love it, but they're trying their best. And then boom. After a very long stay at Kyoshi, Suki finds out she's pregnant.

Definitely not what they had in mind, they've only started dating again for a couple months and the idea that Sokka is gonna leave her with this baby is making her mind spiral into the absolute worse case scenario because that's how she thinks now. Sokka grabs her by the shoulders hard and promises her that he's not going anywhere. He's with her 100% of the way.

And he is. They navigate their relationship and this big change together and it's not easy, but they work through it. Sokka slowly realizes that he's always been in love with Suki one way or the other, and her becoming the mother of his child further solidifies this thought. It's a quiet and simple confession he gives her one lazy afternoon, and she reciprocates the feeling.

They learn how to live with each other, travel for projects, and raise their kid together. Time still moves on, and one day Sokka just asks her to marry him. Simple and a little off the cuff like most of their relationship at this point. But he still can't help but smile when she says yes.

Sorry for going a little overboard, haha! But I too want our boy Sokka to be happy! We just gotta find one or two more possible people for him besides Toph for our semi-multishipping needs lol.

everyone gets a soulmate!!!!! yay!!!!! katara, meet zuko. sokka, meet toph. mai, meet azula. ty lee, meet suki (this one backfires because they actually do fall in love). oh, and aang, since you’re a monk, you don’t have a soulmate i guess! but you don’t mind that, right? haha no, of course not! aang keeps having to pretend like he’s fine being the only one without a soulmate, and mai’s just like “oh u can have my soulmate if u want” and aang’s like “oh....no.......that’s okay........ but thanks”

sokka is told that he’s about to meet his soulmate, and he’s like “ok this will be fun” because at this point he’s just decided to go along with it until ashton kutcher jumps out from behind a pot plant or smth. he doesn’t know whether he can trust toph yet, so when she says, “you’ll stand by me no matter what, right?” he’s like “oh of course.” and then she tells him she was sent here by mistake, and she doesn’t know what to do. he’s like, “who forking knows what to do right now this is. this is objectively insane, right????” and she’s like “well, objectively speaking, yes, but it’s also a bit presumptuous of you to assume that an afterlife that measured morality on a points basis didn’t exist just because it sounds silly as fuck when you say it out loud.” and he’s like. “no. we’re definitely being punk’d.” and she’s like “did you just say fork? lmao loser”

ty lee is all “but it doesn’t really make sense that i’m here” and suki’s like “why not? you’re nice and you smell good” and ty lee’s like “but i’m.....super sketchy.......... i’ve committed like......actual felonies???” and suki’s like “ok but who fucking cares tho” and ty lee’s like “ykw GREAT point” and then they kind of just take advantage of the fact that they’re in a magical truman show because that’s the kind of shit you do when you figure out what’s actually going on, duh. michael thinks they hate each other because every time he goes to check in on them they are literally fighting each other??? he’s like oh wait......is this maybe........too far??? but he doesn’t know what to do about that other than maybe recommend some couple’s therapy and they go for laughs and ty lee sobs dramatically and suki wails various bits and pieces of a made up backstory that gets more and more absurd and incongruous every week.

mai and azula are perfect for each other! they have so much in common! for one thing, they both have no idea what the fuck they’re doing here. for another, they do not trust the other as far as they can throw them, and so they are both suffering silently and alone as they try to piece together why they’re here. they live right next door to toph and sokka, so they’re always running into each other, until eventually they are thrown into enough weirdly coincidental situations together that they just become friends. mai actually thinks toph is pretty cool. they kind of just get each other, yknow? what if there was, like, a mixup and.... *gasp* and then azula gets beaten in pai sho once and that’s all it takes for her to become obsessed with sokka and convinced that they are the real soulmates. sokka didn’t account for this happening because he assumed that pai sho is a meaningless game and nothing would happen if he won. he kicks himself for this later.

mai and azula both agree to tell toph and sokka that there’s been a mistake, and they try to inform them of this theory as directly as possible. toph and sokka are like “what are you talking about?? the system would never do such a thing??? the system doesnt make mistakes!!!” and they even threaten to tell michael about this before mai and azula are like “ok ok !!! maybe we were wrong. just an idea” and sokka’s like “ok well maybe we shouldn’t be questioning this perfect world, how’s that for an idea. oh and im in love with toph” and mai and azula leave deeply heartbroken. sokka and toph are like “whew that was close” because there is no fucking way they are splitting up after they’ve spent who knows how long perfectly camouflaging under surveillance and pretending to be having sex while actually doing very long and complicated math and reading through everything every moral philosopher ever wrote up until the day they died and throwing out more and more implausible theories just for sokka to have to pretend to be attracted to azula. toph’s like “i kinda like mai tho” and sokka’s like “yeah mai’s chill”

at first, zuko and katara get along great! they love doing dumb shit together that no one else they knew on earth ever found fun. they have such deep, profound conversations all the time. they’re always cuddling while watching movies and they’re like yeah we real cute. for the first time in both their lives they’re like, wow!! maybe soulmates are real!! all their friends are like “awww you two are so perfect together. and you always have your hands all over each other. you guys must be forkin like crazy” and they’re like “haha! ..........yep!” it’s only just occurred to them that it’s been six months and they still haven’t even kissed. and katara’s like “okay clearly we just....forgot! and we should just do that now, because we’re in ....love? unless..... you don’t want to....” and zuko’s like “HAHA WHAT WHY WOULDNT I WANT TO” the next morning they both are like “well that was great!” and are terrified to tell the other that they currently feel dead inside. after that, they stop having deep conversations. they stop cuddling on the couch. mainly, they just lie to each other so often that the smallest thing will leave them boiling over in a ginormous fight. and when they fight, the entire city knows it, because they are so. goddamn. loud. but then when people ask them how they’re doing katara’s just like “oh we couldnt be more in love :) .....why do you ask?”

after aang’s house gets destroyed in a fire zuko may or may not have started, he feels so guilty he lets aang move into their gaudy mansion with a billion spare bedrooms. aang promises he’ll only be there until they’re done with renovations to his old home, but none of them bother to question why they need to be doing renovations in the good place anyway. zuko is constantly doubting his place in this world, and whether he even is katara’s soulmate. the people around him keep telling him he’s a good person, but then something horrible will happen that he’s certain was his fault, and he’s like “aah im a fraud!” plus, aang seems to understand katara so much better, and they have a really strong bond... if he can be here, he doesn’t understand why aang and katara can’t be true soulmates. and aang agrees.

azula’s breakdowns get worse and worse each time, and she feels so alone. she knows that mai doesn’t love her. she knows that sokka doesn’t love her. her mom didn’t even love her! of course she wouldn’t get a soulmate –– what a childish, naive, foolish, idiotic notion!!!! so she decides to do the right thing, and confess: she was put here by mistake. she is the problem with the neighborhood. she’s not supposed to be here. sokka’s like “okay well fork. why did i ever ever beat her in pai sho” (and he’s right to think that, frankly.) there are proceedings in which azula must admit to michael that she was never a human rights lawyer, but she was an attorney. mainly she got people prosecuted for drug possession. it’s a living! ha ha...! they go through a whole bunch of bullshirt, but it all comes to a head when they’re fighting over who should take azula and zuko’s places (he confesses too, obvs) when it occurs to zuko that they can’t go to the bad place. because they’re already in the bad place.

sokka’s like “whaaaaaaat???? no...........thats ... thats impossible! why would you..............say that.................. you........forking...................idiot...............” (so much work. so much work wasted. fuck this dude. if he weren’t already dead sokka would kill him.) but michael’s already like “wow someone finally figured it out. i thought you’d never get it.” and then goes on to explain his great master plan that was actually a lot less complex than sokka’s current working theory. he leaves the room to talk to sean, and sokka’s like “okay show of hands who knew” so turns out ty lee and suki knew as well. good to know. with double the people with brains, maybe they can devise a plan to escape. and leave the rest to die or whatever. mainly zuko though. especially zuko. sokka writes down a note to find toph, ty lee, suki, and mai in the next reboot and under it, the sentence: “stay calm; you’re in the bad place.”

and then nbc cancels it because they have the foresight to know that the concept won’t sustain itself :)

Also obviously SOOOO many characters in this series who were written as straight when they shouldn’t be lol. We get it, it was a kid’s cartoon in the 00s, but they didn’t have to agressively pair off everyone in neat m/f couples by the end of the series

Favourite Friendship: Aang & Zuko

Character I most identify with: Zuko, as mentioned above. He’s also the same MBTI type as me haha (INFP). Also, Sokka mix of being simoultaneously really clever and extremely stupid is a gigantic mood.

Character I wish I could be: Idk... Iroh, in some ways, certainly. Honestly, by the end of the series all the main kids are pretty admirable people. Who wouldn’t want Aang’s kindness, Katara’s righteousness, Zuko’s determination, Sokka’s cleverness, Toph’s independence, Suki’s leadership, etc? Hell, Mai’s bravery and Ty Lee’s loyalty? I love all the main kids.

Zukka

When I started shipping them: Only a year or two ago, actually! I think last time I rewatched The Boiling Rock I was like 👀

Originally when I was an ATLA fan I was still in the “we must adheer to canon” phase of my existence in fandom and then for a good while I was still affected by my... hesitance to look like a, idk, stereotypical slash fan, in the sense that back in the day people were REALLY hostile to slash ships that seemed, idk, contrived. Zukka also just wasn’t a big ship back in the day I don’t think, Jetko has always been more popular.

My thoughts: The cammaraderie that developes between them over their stay at The Boiling Rock is incredibly compelling to me and I think that... the ways in which Sokka holds Zuko accountable through “jokes” but still allows him the space to prove himself is really interesting and probably... something that is actually better for Zuko than either Katara’s rage or Aang’s kindness? Idk.

Also they both have pretty complicated relationships to masculinity and what it means to be a man in their respective cultures and their sort of struggles with that and how those struggles look different due to circumstances like their parental situations and different cultural expectations... Zuko’s is less directly about masculinity per se because the Fire Nation has less strict gender roles, or at least ones that don’t code certain activities as purely masculine endeavours (eg warfare) but certainly there are shades of Ozai’s treatment of Zuko and Azula that are gendered as well as about birth order and it’s interesting how Zuko and Sokka both impose restrictions on themselves about how they should behave and what they should live up to culturally.

What makes me happy about them: I think they complement each other really well. They have a lot in common but are pretty different about their approach to things... I also just really like battle couples lol

What makes me sad about them: Their respective trauma is part of what makes them compelling but it’s certainly also sad, so in that sense...

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: So much of it is modern AU and i don’t care for it lol. Completely ignoring any sense that the Avatar world must have some elements of homophobia bothers me to exist in the ways it does, but as does completely overplaying it, idk. It’s a balance not everyone strikes well. Also obviously when people demonise Suki or Mai to account for them not being in the picture that’s bad.

Things I look for in fanfic: Honestly, more than anything? Good characterisation. This is a ship that lives and dies by good characterisation. I also really like when they’re set during the time at the Western Air Temple.

My wishlist:

Swordfighting duels!! Practicing swordfighting together!! Bonding over swords like the dumb teenage boys they are!! Yes I know about the innuendo that only makes it better!!

Hakoda not just being cool with it but realising about Zuko’s abuse and being like Actually I Am Your Dad Now

I always want fic where the gaang find out about how Zuko got his scar and that with Zukka is even more *chef’s kiss*

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Hmm ending up with, huh? I like Jetko for the drama but not necessarily as endgame. Sukka is pretty cute so I’m down for that but Maiko is.... look, it made sense for the time that Zuko was back in the Fire Nation because but I 100% don’t think it’s something either of them benefits from afterwards. They’re better off as friends imo also Zuko’s gay

My happily ever after for them: I want them to travel the world together tbh? I never quite know how to account for Zuko becoming Fire Lord in my thoughts about him post-canon because... well obviously I hate monarchy and I don’t actually think Zuko would be particularly comfortable being the leader of a nation, so... I don’t know. Maybe after some years, maybe a decade, of guiding the nation back towards stability Zuko starts reforming the country towards something more democratic and becomes less personally involved in the affairs of running the country? I don’t see them as people who would or really could be tied down by each other because they each have responsibilities to their respective communities and I don’t necessarily find “and then they lived in the Fire Nation palace together for the rest of their lives” compelling...

Sokka

How I feel about this character: I love him so much. His character developement is so compelling and as one of the very few prominent non-bending characters he is also compelling in the ways that situate him within the world and forces him to look for other things to contribute with. Again, the ways in which he is undeniably very clever but simoultaneously kind of dumb is also just... Very Good and Relatable lol. He was someone I overlooked a bit for a while but I think Sokka’s Master really awakened me to how great he is and on rewatches he became one of my faves. Also, you just gotta love any character that uses sarcasm as a shield lol.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Zuko, primarily, as discussed above. I’m fine with both Yue and Suki as canon ships but I’m not really invested in it. When I was younger I liked Sokka/Toph somewhat but actually Toph is a lesbian so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You could always do Suki/Toph, kill two birds with one stone you know

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Gotta love a good father-son relationship <3

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t know what the popular opinions about him are tbh. I’ll use this to say I think ADHD!Sokka makes sense though

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Hmm, idk... the episodes he had that were focused on him were very good and did a good job of exploring his inner life in the face of how often he’s a comedic character, so it would have to be more in terms of his relationships with other characters. More interactions with Zuko would have been good ofc ! :3c

Favorite friendship for this character: Hm, probably Aang. Protective Older Brother Mode for a character that isn’t even technically his sibling is Very Good.

My crossover ship: I don’t really have crossover ships

Now that Dishonored is officially done, I wanted to take the time to thank those who have supported me throughout the whole process. It’s crazy to think that I was able to write a 31-chapter novel-length fic (over 180,000 words) while pursuing my PhD. I would not have gotten through it without your support, and I am so grateful to all of you who read, followed, favorited, and/or reviewed my story. ❤️

I’ve received a lot of feedback throughout the years, but there are 3 reviews on AO3 that stood out to me the most, so I’d like to highlight these (below).

Masterknight wrote on 1/12/18:

“Man this story gave me a whirlwind of emotions, a true rollercoaster for so many reasons. First off I'd like to take a moment to tell you that you're a brilliant author, you've captured what is seemingly a Crack fic plot into something so Damn genuine and raw that I literally felt the pain of every character in their own respective plights. I've always disliked the Azula/Sokka pairing which is odd considering I love pairings that don't seem like they can be, the Aang/Azula Azula/Zuko Sandor/Sansa stories of the world. It made my last 3 days to be a crazy back and forth between maniacally laughing and having stomachaches and tear ups ... oh and also finding myself having my dick in my hand all the time. But damn you sold it! I loved the way you flashed back and after the first flashback you had me hooked. You made this beautiful transition from how the characters were in the show to what they became, starting off with Sokka sitting depressed in Iroh´s teashop. Also I expected something far more crazy to happen when Zuko finaly was revealed Azulas plans written in the book. Something that might toss everything aboard like Azula turning Firelord and make Zuko her sexslave somehow or something ^o^. But ultimately I was glad you stayed a little more in "reality" and didn´t put a crazy twist that made no sense to the story. It´s a well more rounded story this way and takes itself more seriously.

All in all this is probably the best fanfiction I ever read and I´m thrilled for with what you put up in the final chapter!

Ah man. I remember sitting in school after I read the first (idk) 5 chapters. I was completely unfocused. It was like a daydream. I had *this* (you know which) scene of Azula and Zuko in my mind and the scene where zuko finds out who he fucked and it still makes me laugh xd. I remember it so well. This shows how well it is written. This is one of the best fanfiction I've ever read and is easily in my top 5 favourite fanfiction list. It was and is so much fun. This story made me laugh and cry, it made me feel happy and excited and sometimes sad. I love the humor of this story.
