Haha. I don’t know had this idea a while after seeing another GEICO commercial and then remembering seeing Flo as a Halloween costume at the Halloween store. … So yeah ta da Tumblr poll.. again.. oops.
Okay, spent my leisure money this month on 2 @shiftythrifting grab boxes of stuff.
The big one was Halloween stuff:
With a weird dog, a bat, a big plastic skeleton that folds in two (its head spins), broken neon skeleton, a skull pencil topper, weird sticky hand, stuffed cat & pumpkin, bucket o' goodies, 2 eye patches (one for each eye), Ty's Scary the Witch, and a bear with a squished hat in a bag.
Here's what was in the bucket: plastic pumpkins & skulls, spider & ghost rings, plastic babies, candy, witch & cat stakes, witch figure & hollow ghost.
I also got keychains & charms:
The little notebook has a weird cover that's sort of lenticular but never resolves into anything I pick up on. It's full of a kid's drawings, so I'm keeping it forever. Next to Planet Hollywood Chicago is a globe that doesn't even try. It spins, though. Batman is great. A samovar missing a leg. There's oreo and heart-shaped cake phone charms, heavy metal baseball glove, Van Gogh in heavy plastic, a cow-print card holder, the AFLAC duck?, candy brand I never heard of, great blingy turtle, a roast fowl, a dozen eggs, and a diver advertising something.
Here are the stickers and stuff that were also in the box.
There was also a worm on a string, but my roommate grabbed it before I could get the string fully unwound. He took the worm off the string!
Does anyone here know about ducks? Our white ducks, guessing American Pekins, have been disappearing from our lake, I'm trying now to keep up with the last lady left, endearingly named Aflac, but this morning as I was feeding her I noticed that she had something that looked like a rash on the back of her neck
I said I was gonna get a picture of my duck shelf and then I didn’t whoops
Anyway here!! The lighting sucks pls excuse that
I have 30 something in total I think? Ive gained a few since I last took a census, plus there’s some that are debatable whether they even count. I’ve been passively collecting them for like 9 years, actively for closer to 4
Notable ducks: the one in back wearing the sailor hat in the first image was my first, his name is Mr Quack and I got him for my… tenth birthday? I think? A couple of the ones next to him are his various family members, there’s a whole family tree
A lot of the miscellaneous smaller ones are from my old dentist, they used to give me a prize at the end of every visit and I would always pick the ducks (and the giraffe when they didn’t have ducks one time) unfortunately now I go to a boring adult dentist with no ducks :(
Most of the big ones in the last picture are souvenirs from trips. Freddy Mercury duck was just one my mom brought me for no particular reason, and the Aflac one is not a rubber duck but my dad bought it for me cuz he thought it was close enough lol
And also in the last one: my duck nativity I got for Christmas a few years ago! The quality on those ones kinda sucks tbh, the eyes are messed up or totally missing on most of them and the rubber is very thin, but the concept is fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Returning to my duck thoughts from earlier, let’s assign some quacks to these ghouls. This is based purely on my own, random thought process, so don’t take it too seriously. Let’s go.
Aether: He’s a classic dabbling duck, aka the mallard. He sticks out because he looks interesting, but he’s also the most familiar. People tend to latch onto him, much like they do the imagery of the mallard.
Dewdrop: He’s a Swedish Blue. Why? Well, frankly it’s because the Swedish Blue is considered one of the heartier duck breeds, but it’s also endangered. You could say it’s because there’s a lot of guitarists, but only one Dew in a way.
Multi/Swiss: American Pekin, that’s the same breed as Aflac, the insurance duck. It’s another popular breed of duck, and one of the friendliest of the species. Multi is pretty popular, so it only makes sense he would be one of the most beloved breeds.
Rain: He’s a crested mini. They’re quieter birds, and still fairly friendly... and they have a big, poofy feather “hat”. Pretty cool, classic duck in a way.
Mountain: He’s a goose. If you were playing duck, duck, goose, you’ve found the honk boy, no further searching necessary.
Cumulus: Aylesbury duck. It’s like an American Pekin duck but rarer.
Cirrus: Bali duck. Another duck with a feather hat, they’re pretty distinct looking birds, and, honestly, I dunno why, but when I saw them I thought, “Okay, year, that could be Cirrus.”
Sunshine: Cayuga duck. They’re fantastic birds that really stand out appearance wise, and their feathers really standout in the sunlight.
Bonus Copia: Imagine, if you will, that video of a person parading around playing music with a group of ducks falling after them, and there you go.
