Sometimes, bad men make great Kings. This particular Duke is absolutely a yandere, but he's also after the throne. He's also one of the few obsessive male characters I can actually imagine in power. He knows how to plan ahead. He's horrible. She's a good and forthright woman. The drama is killer.

Two sisters.

The pretty pink one and the disabled one.

What do you think their relationship is like?

You're wrong.

Chloe is disabled, yes, but she is a capable older sister. Her father, servants, and her sister all treat her with respect. Even when those who discriminate do not.

Alice is a romantic girl, with no brains in her skull. She's supposed to save her family from debt by wedding a wealthy Count....but she cheats on him. Her lover impregnates her, and they run away together...happily? Yes, Alice was never cut out for life as a noble wife. Her husband treats her well. They're passionately in love. Chloe loves her too much to force her to do anything. Their father feels the same.

The spoiled, beautiful daughter leaves the picture.

What about the debt?

There's only one child left. Chloe. She is respected in the walls of her mansion, but nowhere else.

No sane man would marry a woman with a crippled leg.

(This setting is painfully realistic. A couple hundred years ago disabled people had little to no rights. Chloe is a rare exception as a noble daughter who is loved and protected by her father.)

Chloe has no idea, but she does have an admirer.

His name is Duke Daimien Thisse. He fell in love with her three years ago, but she has no clue. He bullied her. He called her naive. Arrogant. He ripped her cane from her hands to show her how weak she was. She naturally assumed he's just another man who dislikes disabled people.

She met the Duke when he was at war. His men camped in her forest, behind her home. She nursed some of his fghters back to health.

Naive Chloe was unaware. As she treated the men they ridiculed her, and they tossed more inappropriate comments on top. They did not deserve her help, but she gave it.

Duke Thisse stole her cane because he was frustrated. He hated watching her care for the boorish men in his army, who whispered behind her back. So, he insulted her to her face to test her true character.

Chloe was too perfect. He suspected she was acting, as an excuse to get close to him and seduce him. He does know about her monetary situation after all.

She rejects him and proves that kindness isn't a weakness. She didn’t know the men were insulting her, but it doesn’t matter to her. They were protecting her country. Her land. She felt obligated to help, as an upstanding noble lady.

Duke Thisse is smitten.

He does get worse though. This guy is every single red flag. His fascination with Chloe stays a secret. A real one. Nobody knows he loves her. Chloe thinks he's marrying her to weaken his position on purpose, because he wants the Crown Prince to look stronger. She thinks she's a tool and she's half right. Marrying Chloe does give the Duke camouflage. He looks like a loyal dog...but he's been planning this marriage and a rebellion for three years.

Chloe won't be his Duchess.

She will be his Queen.

Daimien is also the most jealous and vindictive man on earth. He does bully and plot against his own wife when she pays attention to other men. He's un-fucking-unbearable. He threatens to kill her and her family more than once. She thinks it's because of his honor or something but no. He just does that when she mentions another man too many times.

He even throws a hissy fit when she tries to visit her own father.

This handsome servant, Gillies, figures out how twisted the Duke is. He's purely in love with his kind lady, and the persistent hero actually succeeds in exposing the rot.

Chloe finds out how deep the corruption goes far too late.

Duke Thisse doesn't tell Chloe anything. This mistress??? Fake. She's a royal spy and he feels nothing for her, but he uses this fake lover to torment Chloe. To test her and embarrass her. To see her pure true self once more. Chloe maintains her dignity, even when she must invite said mistress to a tea party.

Duke Thisse uses the death of this fake mistress to trick Chloe into loving him. He frames Chloe. He makes it look like she murdered the other woman out of jealousy, and then he saves her from life in jail.

That "selfless deed" earns her love.

Chloe earnestly lavishes love on the monster that has been tormenting her for years.

Even the Crown Prince is a pawn.

Duke Thisse needs him to to die at the right time, in the right place.

The mad prince realizes that Daimien married Chloe for love, and he gets more suspicious.

His feelings mess with the plan.

The rebellion will come regardless.

Romance begins to blossom when the Duke actually says I love you. It's not cheesy. It makes perfect sense. Chloe doesn't want money or promises. She wants to know if he saved her from a murder charge out of love.

(If only she knew)

He says yes.

It would have been so romantic if we, the readers, didn't know what was going on in his head.

By the way they don't consumate their marriage until they confirm their love. The Duke gets some points with that. He only wanted to lay with her if she felt the same way. He avoided all intimacy until that day. Now she does reciprocate....but he's been planting those feelings for almost four years.

Their love blossoms into something beautiful.

Chloe is pregnant and they all live happily...

The Crown Prince is a mentally deranged maniac. The people are turning against him.

The Duke wants more than love.

He wants to protect the nation he fought for in war.

He wants power. He wants to be King, and he has chosen a Queen.

Side note he only wants Chloe to have one baby, because he's familiar with the dangers of childbirth. I'll give him points for that one...again. He sucks but he's not the worst husband to have.

They don't live happily ever after.

Duke Thisse has more goals to strive for beyond happiness, and that's awesome. He's not a nice man, but he's obsessive and he's not bland. He's not boring on screen. That's for sure.

Chloe is an extremely cool woman, without superpowers. There is no secret ingredient. She's just a hard worker. One of her legs doesn't freaking work, and she's still more imposing than most.

Lots of people hate this one.

I think they need to read the fine print. Maybe one or two more times. On the surface this is a tale of abuse and manipulation...but remember there's no magic. Chloe never wanted to marry for love. She has no lover waiting for her.

Being the wife of a Duke isn't supposed to be easy. It's extra hard if he's ambitious.

The prince of Camelot wasn't raised to process his feelings properly (no thanks to dear old daddy), so he thinks his infatuation is under the pretense of friendship.

Many find it hilarious. Everyone knows how much Arthur loves you... except the two of you.

He just doesn't understand why he's always wanting more than the platonic affections you give him, yearning for you when you're not around, or thinking about you all the time.

Don't get me wrong, he knows he enjoys your company. Both his whole world and time stops when he's with you; the heavy responsibilities of the crown and endless problems are temporarily forgotten.

Arthur also feels the need to impress you, sometimes more than Uther. He already likes showing off to a crowd but when you're watching him? There will be 1000x more effort.

"Why do I feel this way, Merlin?"

I'm sorry but Merlin prefers it that way.

Morgana will make you her own amusement.

Best believe she will test you, to see how long can you remain unaware of her feelings. It entertains her to no end, better than the performers Uther hires in banquets.

She will go all out— giving you all sorts of touches that's reserved for lovers, bringing you expensive presents, always spending time with you, and even kissing you in both public and in private.

Morgana will search for any reaction on your face every time. But you just continue to innocently smile and thank her for being a 'good friend'.

Everyone thinks you two are dating because of her public display of affection but you shrug it off whenever someone asks you about it. Morgana, on the hand, just smirks and winks.

If it takes too long and she begins to get impatient, she will just knock on your door and confess her love.

“Elijah, can we talk about why your siblings and you have been ignoring me?” You asked

Why did Melkor hate Feanor so much?

(No, this is not a very pro-Melkor post, I'm using the name because it's about the time period before he was called Morgoth)

Tldr: It's Finwe's fault. It's everybody's fault.

Yes, Feanor was the best elf, and stealing and breaking the best of every group was Melkor's thing. Yes, he hated everyone in general and Feanor had a temper.

But I don't think that's all.

I think the main reason was jealousy for something Feanor had and Melkor didn't ever have and very, very much wanted to have since forever.

Feanor had a lot of unjust favoritism, positive bias and not always healthy love from his father. (Because Finwe felt guilty about the whole marriage situation)

Just imagine: you're a little narcissistic Vala, who thinks he's better than all your siblings (you remember when they didn't exist and it was much better), and that you deserve better, and should rule everything, but Iluvatar (the very name means "everyone's dad", not *everyone's dad but especially Melkor's") tells you that you're just as much valid as everyone else, and please stop messing up, and no, you can't be king of Arda, Manwe gets to be the kind of Arda.

And then there's this elf. Everybody praises him. His father lives him much, much more than the other children. He's the crown prince, the heir, the everything. And his personality is so much like yours, only he's more patient (which is of course unfair to you). And you warn him that his younger siblings will try and usurp him, after all that's what siblings do and maybe later he would help you get your siblings in their place. He threatens his brother with a sword and his father doesn't tell him that his brother is valid too, doesn't tell him to stop messing up, doesn't demote him. Instead, Finwe goes to exile with his son and it's very passive aggressive at everyone who was against Feanor.

And this throws Melkor into a rage and hating Feanor, because that's exactly the sort of behavior he would want from Iluvatar, but Iluvatar is, well, God, and not an emotionally immature elf traumatized by the death of his wife.

Seriously, very little things hurt as much as when you have an unhealthy expectation (especially after you've been repeatedly told it's unhealthy and started internalizing that), and someone else has the exact unhealthy thing happen to him and it works perfectly well for them. Repeatedly. I've been there and it's infuriating.

So add that to a divine power with full on narcissistic personality, and you have a recipe for disaster. And the disaster of course happens, with the trees and Finwe, and everything.

I'm glad Feanor died on the Balrogs, I'm afraid to think what would happen if he was captured alive (think: Maedhros but up to eleven).

And no, I don't blame it on Finwe only.

He was the emotional center, but he didn't do that much. Just some bad parenting. If he didn't remarry, of course... But also, if Miriel didn't say she won't be back (which turned out to be wrong anyway), if Feanor wasn't so jealous, if the Elves didn't go to Valinor in the first place (which was canonically a bad idea on part of the Valar, but also wouldn't be a thing if Melkor didn't mess Beleriand up. Of course it's still mostly Melkor's fault). So many ifs.

(I don't blame the Valar for letting Finwe remarry, I think he might do it without their consent too, and it's not really their business to let him or not. They might have given him some advice, but I doubt they had any good advice.)

So yes, Melkor bad, but the situation was triggering, and especially if you assume that he did reconsider his behavior a little during those 3 ages, some interesting what-ifs arise

(Also, if Feanor was more positive towards him, it might end up with the army of Noldor trying to fight the Valar to give Melkor "his rightful place", because Feanor would see himself in Melkor and the whole "usurped by youngest siblings" thing)

honestly that was how i felt while planning it out and writing it sometimes, i’d think of something and then have to do a lap around my living room LOL

mob!graves is very much a man who needs things to in his control at all times. he knows they’re going to see the 141, and that canary very clearly had something going on with price and graves needs her to either be too distracted to think about price or (better for him) think there’s a small hope of him making things better for her with makarov and that he’ll try to protect her from him. graves might care for her but she’s more a possession to him, a trophy he’s won by being favored by her father and he doesn’t want to just let that go.

shepherd’s kind of a mystery right now, like he’s very clearly working against price but i think seeing what type of men he’s gotten in bed with has him rethinking whether he’s really on the better side of this whole ordeal.

i think if canary was in a better mental-emotional state, she probably would’ve. or at least she would’ve said something to graves and played it in her favor, because disrespecting the wife of the man you’re trying to make a deal with??? graves may not care for canary like he should but that’s still his wife, an extension of him, and he wouldn’t let that slide.

i love and hate that scene with valeria because it’s so petty and complete mean girl behavior but also i love valeria and if she hadn’t done that, canary never would’ve taken off the coat, ghost wouldn’t have seen the bruises, and they wouldn’t have tried to help her sooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ghost being the one to find her was always going to be the plan, and i think given what they now know about each other there’s going to be a kind of mutual understanding between the two…..after the groveling of course 😉 and yes, canary’s going to have a hard time with being away from graves and makarov. having to get re-accustomed to things like nikolai’s nickname for her, any kind of touching, her paranoia over being randomly taken for interrogation, it’s a lot she’s gonna have to heal from.

price cares for canary a lot, like yeah he was rude to her about being with graves but he also was under the impression this woman he’s madly in love has betrayed him and purposely put his family in danger. he realizes how wrong he was now of course and they will have to do a lot of work to get their relationship even remotely close to where they were at before, but he knows the truth now and he’s gonna do whatever he has to make sure she knows she’s safe and that no one is going to touch her again.

canary still has a lot to go through, but it’ll all work towards a better future and that happy ending that she so rightfully deserves!!

she’s absolutely gonna get her revenge, her full john wick/season 8 daenerys/beyoncé with a baseball bat moment and the 141 are gonna be in full support of her because she deserves it and it takes care of their enemies!!! she may let price and the 141 get a few hits in, but it’s her revenge and she will have it.

Gonna be honest, i'm excited for Kacchan's apology and Ochako's speech

But i literally don't trust anything that bones does at this point, and i don't trust iz/////chs to be quiet about it either, since i'm 200% sure they will make Ochako's speech as romantic and well animated as possible while the apology will be like, Kacchan sounding angry and have 2 frames per second with stills. Idk if i will be able to handle harassement again. Kinda makes want to cry thinking my friends might also go through the same.

What's your thoughts on it? Do you feel the same might happen again since Ochako's speech in the manga?

You know what, I haven't actually thought too much on that, but I just hope that it doesn't turn out that way.

Both Katsuki and Uraraka don't deserve to have those scenes to be messed up in any way.

Uraraka's speech is one of her crowning moments where she isn't just some girl with a crush (Having a crush isn't a personality trait, damn it! Sorry, flashbacks). It's a scene where she is standing up for her friend, being a hero, her own person and coming forth and speaking out. She's not confessing her love to Midoriya, so it shouldn't be treated as such.

And for Bakugou's apology, I just hope it isn't some two frames and that's it. Honestly, who ever worked on the Katsuki Bakugou: Rising episode, I hope they do that scene. (The little memory flashbacks, I liked those very much!) That scene is vital to Bakugou's character because it is one of the few times that not only is he coming out and letting out emotions; it's one of the few times where he shows his emotions that isn't anger IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE, aka Class A. Usually, it's just in front of Midoriya when he cries. For him to apologize in front of their classmates, knowing how closed off he can be and how much pride he holds, is a big step for him.

Also, Iida's moment. I'm looking forward to that moment, too. The bond he and Midoriya has is one of my favorites in the series, so I'm excited for that part to happen. That's my Class Rep right there! I want to see his shining moment!

Now, I don't go into watching anything with high or low expectations, so normally whenever I watch an episode I click off my critique mode and switch to my "just watch it" mode. That way I'm not looking at every bit of detail and being disappointed in first viewing.

Regardless of how these scenes turn out, for sure there will some people who will go out their way to be complete assholes. You know no matter how beautifully sculpted these next couple of episodes there will be some assholes.

At this point, there is not persuading them. Just let them complain and block them. Your time is too precious.

In which I SkyTrain-post about: the Dunsmuir Tunnel.

Or, actually, why the SkyTrain network as a whole feels like a goofy little toy train, while also being a really cool example of quirky '80s technology being pushed right to its absolute limits. But first, some context is useful — specifically, the urban freeway plan for Vancouver, which, unlike many cities in North America, was largely aborted.

↑↑↑ This is what they wanted to do to part of the City of Vancouver…

…and this is the overarching plan that was mostly defeated by an organised left in Vancouver. (The few areas that weren't saved, well, those deserve their own posts.) So, with a massive freeway plan being shot down for the city centre, what was the plan going to be for transit? Well, after some amount of messing around with express buses throughout the '70s on the part of the regional transit network, which was operated by BC Hydro before BC Transit took it over… …Vancouver got chosen to host Expo 86. Which was themed around transportation, being named "Transportation and Communication: World in Motion — World in Touch".

Which meant: well shit, maybe now's a good time to make up for having dodged the whole highway bullet. However, using a normal heavy rail network, on entirely new infrastructure, with human drivers, was untenable, because: I guess I need to introduce the Socreds.

I'm not going to get into the ideology of social credit, which the Socreds never actually ended up being able to give effect to, or the somewhat unusual conservatism of WAC Bennett's long administration, but effectively, by the early '80s, the Socreds had pivoted to plain old neoliberalism, which meant: cutting costs all over and also keeping unions out of whatever they could. (As an aside, if you've ever got the time, read about the Solidarity protests of 1983 in BC, because the sheer intensity of the Bill Bennett administration's fuckery on that front is a pretty clear demonstration of shock doctrine.) And yes, if you're keeping track, that's William Bennett for 20 years → 3 years of not William &c. → Bill Bennett for 11 years → Wilhelmus Vander Zalm for 5 years. Lots of William happening. And all of those assorted Williams were Socred Premiers. But how do you cut costs and also keep unions away from a brand new metro system? Well, Urban Transit Development Corporation, a Crown Corporation (basically a state-owned enterprise, but Canadian) in Ontario had an idea:

A tiny train. But it runs frequently. It's also automated, and uses a linear induction motor for propulsion. That's kinda critical to the fact that the SkyTrain works whatsoever, really, given other constraints I'm about to get into. And what else can one do to save costs on a rail system?

Reuse old alignments, like the Central Park Line of the British Columbia Electric Railway.

But what saves even more money?

Reusing old infrastructure. Basically, until just a few years before the SkyTrain started operation, Canadian Pacific ran long-distance trains, all the way out to Toronto (and sometimes further), through the Dunsmuir Tunnel from Waterfront Station, which is now the "main" hub for TransLink, linking the SeaBus, Expo Line, West Coast Express. Canada Line, and many bus routes. But that got shut down, to make way for literally slicing the Tunnel in half height-wise — and thus letting two tracks use the same tunnel, which was built tall enough for old steam trains. Which means: you've got trains constrained to a fairly tiny loading gauge, which, sure, maybe you'd want to build longer platforms to compensate for that, but:

No. Hence automation. For example, try to find a precise timetable for the Expo Line anywhere on the Internet, without screwing around with APIs or whatever. You can't, last I checked. The design philosophy resulting from the "let's spend as little as goddamn possible while still having a grade separated rapid transit system" approach means that, well, we've got trains so tiny in loading gauge terms that you can fit two in a barely modified single-track rail tunnel, which are barely even 80m long, which still could carry 25,700 people per hour per direction, solely thanks to completely absurd frequencies. Like, TransLink deserves to be yelled at over the lack of redundancy in such a critical transportation backbone, and the provincial governments that they rely on for funding deserve it even more, but it's. Well. Kinda interesting how the most ridiculous possible political pressures resulted in, like, a fairly functional transit system, via the weirdest specifications possible. However, this is also why, not even 40 years after the Expo Line opened for regular service, it's already close to its limits. They were far too cautious and non-ambitious in their design for the system, chasing ideologies of Fiscal Responsibility™ instead of future-proofing, and now we've got transit infrastructure that's going to require redundancy to the tune of an entire extra metro line in the northwest/southeast direction eventually, even if other connections should be able to pick up the slack in the medium term.

Hm. We'll see if that comes up in correlation to the leaks I've seen.

Holst is around; doesn't seem to bear the Crest of Goneril, despite Hilda claiming Freikugel was his birthright in Houses (she says he tried to pawn off his whole inheritance and only settled for giving her the Relic).

This will set the tone for all the infuriating retcons to come <3

🎨 Is your OC artistic? Can they draw or paint or do they prefer another medium? Are they a writer or musician or do they do something else? Give us a quick run down of what they can get creative with!

Yes!! Feren loves the creative arts in general: acting, story telling, playing music, dancing, singing, drawing and painting. He just can't write as he's illiterate. Feren is... passable at playing a lute, but he's a lot better at singing or dancing to music than playing it. He also loves telling stories, the more dramatic the better, but he only really knows of orally-told folk tales that are easy to memorise rather than complex & esoteric prose. He's able to perform in plays by memorising lines that are read out loud to him or he just wings it and improvises.

As he's not part of a guild, he has relatively limited access to the tools he needs for painting or drawing, although he's pretty good at scavenging materials for himself.

He has a shabby sketchbook with paper made from clothing rags of hemp or linen (that he's usually nabbed from wherever he can find it). He also uses his druid skills to source things from the natural world. For a canvas, he'll often use slate or bark, chalks for sketching, and pigments from ochres and flowers for paint. His bedroom walls are covered in bright colours that he's been adding to bit-by-bit over the years, depicting an emerald forest kingdom (which may or may not resemble what was once his home).

Feren is the Guiding Light, or Star-Wolf, God of starlight, guidance, reunions and protection. He shines light into wherever it is darkest; much like constellations have helped navigate people for many years, Feren helps those who are lost to find their way or reunite with loved ones. In his usual elven form, Feren wears little, save for the golden leaves that adorn his body. On his blond hair is a halo-like crown. His skin is covered in tattoos of constellations that glow whenever he feels strong emotion. He wields two things; his famed lantern, which is said to have captured starlight that can illuminate any darkness, and a sword with a blade made not of metal, but a window into the galaxies. His other form is a giant wolf made of celestial matter. As for offerings, he simply expects a lit match, candle or lantern. He can be worshipped anywhere, but usually at night or in dark temples where the contrast between light and dark is more apparent. He often gains followers in moments of desperation (whether they are figuratively or literally lost). His followers wear white, yellow, blue and black and are usually clerics, paladins or druids. ^ something along those lines would hit right in the self-loathing that Feren tries so hard to repress. It would be pretty hard to cheer him up after that lol, but not impossible. Telling him that he isn't being judged, his trauma isn't his fault, and that he deserves happiness & love is a start. It'll take a while, but he will slowly start to believe it.

All Aurora did, all Aurora could do, was listen to him. And she understood him. She knew what it was like to have your life upended in one fell swoop. It happened to her, and she had to learn how to accept that change and move forward with her life. And that is what Edward would need to learn how to do now.

“I don’t think you foolish,” Aurora stated as she looked at him, and she put her hand on his shoulder. “Change is a difficult thing, especially when it is unexpected. I know that better than anyone. It’s easy to mourn who we once were, and we should let ourselves mourn that. But we also need to keep moving forward and know that there are good things out there for us.”

She took his face in her hands and turned it so he was looking at her, and she brushed his hair back gently.

“This cottage will not be empty, I swear it,” she said with a soft smile. “Some other family will find their way here, and they will make good memories. They’ll have the treasured childhood memories you, Ella and I had with your mother and father. And believe me, I wish I could stay here. All I ever wanted was to have a family with you in this house and to play in the garden with our children, make them flower crowns, do all the things we loved to do here. But sometimes…you have to let go of those childhood dreams to let in something better. And I’d be doing myself and frankly, Kit and his late father, a disservice if I didn’t try to convince my father to let me inherit the throne.”

She then leaned up and kissed his cheek and leaned her forehead against his.

“But no matter whether it all works out or not, I’m glad I’ll have you by my side throughout all of it. That at least gives me comfort for the days ahead.”

What had he ever done to deserve her? His sweet, loving Rose.

For as long as he could remember, it had been the three of them. Ella, the glue that held everything together. The sunshine and light. Briar, the backbone. The courageous one who never let anything stop her. And himself, the cautious voice of reason. The protector. What wonderful women Ella and Rose had become! Strong, true, and giving to a fault. They had little need of him anymore, if they ever really had at all.

Edward couldn't have been more proud of them both. And he knew that his parents and Rose's aunts felt the same.

Laying his hand over hers, he sighed. His fingers caressed and cradled hers, keeping Rose close. She would always be Rose to him, no matter what her true name was.

"Yes, I suppose you're right." He replied pensively. "Time stops for no one. And it's just a waste if we let it slip out of our hands. I always knew I'd have to see her fly someday. As much as it hurts, I can't deny her anything. And he makes her happy. Trying to hold them back after all he's done for us... Well, I'm certainly not one to be ungrateful. Ella has someone else to take care of her now. And if you trust him to do it, then I will too. I'm just glad there's a happy ending, for all of us. It's more than I could have hoped for."
