podcasts are truly the new webcomics because I am staring longingly at multiple podcasts that stopped halfway through a plot arc and went on indefinite hiatus 3 years ago with no indication if they’re ever gonna continue. Checking the Tides podcast discord server balefully and googling to see if there’s any The Godshead Incidental or Khôra news like this is just like when I was in high school and Hanna Is Not A Boys Name never updated again

here, have a little modern steddie meet-cute. meet-ugly, maybe? idk. 1k words, mostly dialogue
"uber for, uh," the guy in the beemer at the curb looks at the phone in his hand, "eddie m.?"
"hey, that's my name!" eddie shouts, stumbling toward the car. the world is tipping sideways a little, but it's been a good night.
he wrenches open the passenger side door and slides in.
"cool if i sit up front, man? i get motion sickness sitting in the back, and you would not like me when i'm motion sick."
"uh, sure?"
eddie pulls the door closed behind him and says, "so what's your name, pretty boy?"
"you don't check the app before getting into some random guy's car?" the guy asks with a huff.
"oh, no, i never order these things for myself." eddie laughs. he tries to think back, remember how many jameson shots he put back tonight. can't. oh, well. "my roommate always sets it up beforehand when i come down to the styx for a show."
"a show? like a concert?"
"uh, no. drag show. styx is a gay bar." the guy's quiet at that. "that a problem? still dunno your name."
"oh. steve," the guy - steve - says shortly. "no, it just... looks more like a... metal bar, or something."
"sometimes things are both, can you believe it! they do a drag show last wednesday of every month. good show tonight, all the girls looked great." he kicks his feet up on the dashboard of the car, watches steve's eyes cut sideways at them as he does. "do you like drag shows, steve?"
he's testing the waters, feeling steve out to see if he should be worried about getting into some random guy's car outisde a gay bar with a dead phone. eddie's definitely had a little too much tonight. he's probably got glitter in his hair. there's definitely black lipstick smeared across his cheek from when allison chaynz planted one on him earlier during her set.
"only been to a few, but yeah. they're a good time. good show."
safe, then. tentatively.
eddie studies steve for a moment, trying to figure him out. he's got this thing he does sometimes, in an uber; eddie's an easy read - he gets into an uber and the driver immediately flips their spotify over to a metal playlist.
the driver's are usually easy to read too, and it's eddie's favorite game; he tends to know when he's got a country boy behind the wheel, or an emo transplant from the mid aughts, or the indie girlies with their iced coffees and perpetual dark undereye circles that all the concealer in the world can't hide.
the guy looks like he wears teenage boy deodorant and smells like repressed trauma. he has the indie girlie dark circles under his eyes, an apple watch strapped to his wrist. rich boy. drives a beemer. good hair, stupid highlights. there's a tube of burt's bees cherry lip balm in the center console and a days old energy drink in the cupholder.
"hmmm, the front bottoms," he decides at last, after staring at steve for what must have been an uncomfortably long time.
"i'm sorry?"
"i said, the front bottoms."
"is that a... what's the word... a euphemism?"
"no, steeeeve. it's a band. check 'em out sometime, your daddy issues'll thank you. do you like music, steve?"
"sure."
eddie clicks his tongue. "smells like bullshit. no one who likes music says sure when someone asks if they like music."
they're stopped at a stoplight. from behind the wheel, steve is studying him right back, looking him up and down, his gaze coming to rest once again on eddie's shoes on the dash.
"get your feet down," steve says, pushing at eddie's shins. "do you have any idea how dangerous that is?"
"fine, fine. so if you don't listen to music, steve, what do you listen to in this fancy bmw?"
"sports, mostly," steve shrugs. "podcasts sometimes."
"oh, boy, you are a walking red flag, aren't you? shame you're so pretty."
"well what about you? what do you listen to?"
"guess."
"i dunno, probably that metal shit. five finger whatever, or something."
eddie presses his hand to his chest. "five finger - oh, stevie, i am wounded. i wouldn't be caught dead listening to bro rock."
out of the corner of his eye, he definitely catches a smile from steve.
steve holds an aux cable out to him. "here, then. wow me. show me some real metal or whatever."
"god, i'd love to take you up on that," eddie says, huffing out a little laugh. he holds his phone up. "this sucker's been dead for hours."
this time steve's the one to click his tongue. "shame."
"truly. so what's your story, steven? what's got you out at three in the morning?"
"it's my night off," steve shrugs. "just started night shift at the hospital, trying to get used to the new sleep schedule."
"mmm, the hospital. you a nurse?"
"i am. trauma nurse."
"nice. ever see any gnarly injuries?"
"had a pretty fucked up dog bite come in the other night."
"shit."
"yeah." another stoplight, another unsubtle once over from steve. "so what about you? what do you do?"
"line cook."
steve's eyes linger on him a little longer than necessary. "oh, but i'm the walking red flag. got it."
"whoa," eddie laughs. "what's that supposed to mean?"
"i've dated line cooks. everyone's dated a line cook."
"sounds like something a slut would say, steve. craziest dick you've ever had, huh?"
"mmm."
it's not a denial.
they're getting close to eddie's building now, and that's an actual shame. because steve's cute. he needs a haircut maybe, and the stubble around his mouth and chin is just on the wrong side of five o'clock shadow, but he's got these distracting little moles along his face and neck and arm that eddie's been itching to play connect the dots with since he got in the car.
"wait, i know this building," steve says as he slows at the curb and looks at the address on his phone again. "my roommate's girlfriend lives in this building."
it clicks into place, then, for eddie.
"oh, shit! you're robin's steve!"
steve's eyebrows draw together as he gapes at eddie, and then his eyes go wide with realization. "chrissy's ed?"
"eddie," he corrects. "gotta be a level twenty friend to call me ed. and chrissy's the only level twenty friend i'll ever have."
"noted. good to finally meet you, man. i, uh. i guess this is you, then, huh?"
"yeah, sure is. maybe i'll see ya around." eddie goes to get out of the car.
"oh, you will," steve says, his smile lopsided and goofy. "i'll make sure of it."
"hold ya to it," eddie promises with a wink.
steve wiggles his fingers in a flirtatious wave as eddie walks backward on the sidewalk toward his building.
so robin's steve is cute. maybe he should have been letting chrissy set them up this whole time.
still. sports and podcasts. guy's a walking red flag. who knows, maybe they're green. eddie's never been able to see the difference anyway.

How do you know so many games to recommend? I feel like I’m always scrambling to find games on a certain topic, and itchio’s search function is tricky at best.
Hello friend! I have a few methods, and I think they all tie back to my pretty big obsession with games. Let's take a trip through my indie RPG journey, because this is kind of the result of approximately 5 years of interest.
DriveThru RPG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I first got into TTRPGs, I didn't have a lot of money (let's be real, even right now I don't really have that much spending money) but I did have a little more time, so I combed the net for free tabletop games. I got acquainted with DriveThruRPG first, and I took everything I could that was free and put it into little folders on my computer. Since then I've realized that I can access my folders through the DriveThru App, so there's much less on my computer and more just waiting to be downloaded and perused.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also get notifications from DriveThru about deals of the day, and occasionally I just browse the storefront to see if anything catches my eye. DriveThru's navigation system is not great either, but one of my friends does some of his own sifting and has directed me to some real gems. I learned about Pandora London, Swords of the Serpentine, and Savage Worlds this way.
Podcasts
Tumblr media
I love TTRPG podcasts but I didn't want to listen to D&D podcasts. I found Fandible first, when I was looking for a play through of Changeling: The Lost. I walk to work and I also like to listen to podcasts when I clean my house, so I usually get through one episode a day. I usually look for podcasts that play in multiple systems, although you'll see a number of podcasts here that focus on just one non-D&D system. Here's a few that I recommend:
Fandible: Just a group of friends who love playing games together. All of them are GMs, and they all GM different games. Jesus is the most adventurous, and is constantly bringing new games to the table. I found Slugblaster, Numenera, and Unhallowed Metropolis through them!
Character Creation Cast: I started listening to CCC last year, thanks to a recommendation from a friend, but I fell in love quick. The hosts focus only on the character creation aspect of games, and they also spend time talking to other gamers about the parts of play that each guest feels is important. I found out about Descent into Midnight, Nova, and Blue Planet this way.
The Gauntlet Podcast: This Podcast no longer releases episodes but I learned so much about safe game play through this podcast. Once a month the hosts would sit down with guests and highlight a game of the month for each of them. Often they would talk about games that they adored even before those games made it to publication. I found out about Brinkwood, Apocalypse Keys, and Poutine through this podcast. I miss it so very much.
I would also recommend My First Dungeon, Party of One Podcast, The Eternity Archives, One Shot, and +1 Forward for exposure to many indie games.
Itch.io
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn't interact much with Itch.io at first - I thought it was mostly for indie video games and generators - but when the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality came out I went feral. I sorted through each and every page of games in that bundle and put all of the TTRPGs into folders - which I am still refining to this day. As you can see, I get very excited whenever a big bundle comes out, as it gives me a lot of exposure to games that people have made.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also sort through the most recent additions on Itch every one or two days. I usually categorize my folders via genre and rules system, but I'm currently in the process of curating folders for duet and epistolary games. If I think a tag will help me, I usually use https://itch.io/physical-games/tag-[tag] and then insert what I'm looking for in the [tag]. It doesn't get everything but it gets me started.
Often if a game was entered in a Game Jam, there's a tab that you can click to see other entries in that same Jam. So occasionally I'll browse Game Jams for other games that I might find interesting. And for games that I know that I'm personally passionate about, I have a Games that Intrigue Me folder to flip through for when I'm choosing which game to play, or if I want to spotlight a game that I've been itching to put on a rec post.
Other Avenues
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am actually subscribed to you on Youtube, along with a number of other great reviewers!
The Gaming Table is a wonderful Aussie creator who reviews copies of indie ttrpgs. She started a year ago and already has a truly delightful backlog. I recently listened to her review of Bluebeard's Bride and it was wonderful!
I found 11dragonkid when I was looking for Lancer content and was pleasantly surprised to find other ttrpg reviews for games such as ARC and Gubat Banwa.
I watch A.A. Voigt's and Talen Lee's (@talenlee) mini-essays about games and the pieces of those games that speak to them not just to learn about new games but also to learn about what makes those games matter. I found the videos on Capitalites and Girl By Moonlight very informative!
I also watch Dave Thaumvore for reviews for big-print games (Vaesen, Symbaroum), and Questing Beast for updates on what's happening in the OSR scene (Vaults of Vaarn, Mothership).
I'm also subscribed to a number of newsletters and RSS feeds! Bundle of Holding has a blog announcing new bundles, the Indie RPG Newsletter has some great indie rpg coverage in their monthly updates and associated links, and I have an RSS feed on Feedly for game musings on whatever blogs I can find.
In Conclusion...
Much of my TTRPG knowledge comes from constant osmosis. I talk to friends about games, spend a lot of time on Itch.io, and I'm also finding new games here on Tumblr. I have an RPG server where me and a bunch of my friends play pretty regularly, and I'm constantly introducing them to new games. We finished up our Monster Squad Arc a month or two ago, and we're currently getting geared up for a Galaxy Games arc - this time with games that other players are bringing to the table!
I started sorting games for my own enjoyment - I love having all of my little boxes that I can go back to when I am hankering for my own game. I started this blog because I found there were too many games that I was excited about and I was never going to get through all of them just gaming with my friends.

Do you love detective stories but hate cops?
Do you love gay detective stories and hate capitalism?
Like disabled main characters who's disability actually comes up?
Like characters of color but not in the mood for stories on racism?
Tempted by the thought of romance at ages of 30+?
Does the idea of stories so queer you'll hesitate before calling any character a "man" or a "woman" make you think "Ah, yes pronoun shenanigans, just like my discord used to make"
And you into an abundance of strong, diverse female and nonbinary characters?
Do you fight for women's wrongs?
I know rep-only recommendations can be annoying, but I'm trying to grab your attention to promote some Indie media. Luckily, though, this post isn't rep-only!
To read my full reccomendation and review of Three of Hearts, click below. ♦️♥️♣️♠️
And if you aren't in the mood for a new thing right now, consider reblogging! Maybe even ping a friend who might be into this! You love supporting queer indie creators!
Note: I am not involved with the making of the show or the game space Kings. I just really like this podcast.
The story
♠️♣️♥️♦️Three of Hearts♦️♥️♣️♠️ centers on two paragovernmental agents in a fantasy, post-war, queernormative 1950s.
Roughly 20 years before the opening, a set of heroes purged magic from the world to turn the tide of the war. But scraps of this thaumaturgic energy still remain. S.U.I.T.S (securing unpredictable injurious thaumaturgic situations) is an agency founded to deal with everything left behind.
When two of the longest standing employees at S.U.I.T.S, Agent Vellum and Agent Felspar, are called onto a new case involving stone crops and a missing person, Felspar isn't surprised (Though Vellum, who's injury had him doing desk work most of his career, is). Things devolve quickly when the Agents realize this case comes from Felspar's home town of Cloven heart, an idyllic magical village that prefers to handle justice on it's own.
Answers yield only more questions, as the Agents realize almost everyone in town has something to hide, and Felspar isn't the only one whose past keeps catching up to him:
How much magic is still around? What's Vellum got sloshing around in there that people think is so juicy? What is Diamond, elven pop star and queer icon, doing in such a small town? Just how big is this case, and how can the Agents balance their legal responsibility, with promises they've made to Cloven Heart?
WHEN. WILL. THEY. JUST. KISS?
(if you're skeptical about central romances, I get it! See notes on aro/aceness and platonic relationships in the rep section for more info)
The combination of magic and newfangled war tech — think telegrams and radios — is somehow just as charming as a rotating cast of characters who will each stake their claim on your heart, but betrayal is imminent and mistrust is rife. The story strikes a wonderful balance between slice of life goodness, and edge-of-your-seat high drama, culminating In a show I highly recommend.
But are they just reskinned cops: my answer has got to be no. While they are technically law enforcement, the main two are entering a commune-like space, where that isn't so welcome. It's a situation they treat with caution and respect. The classic cop-plot of "Should I make myself judge, jury, and executioner because The Bad Guy™ deserves punishment" just isn't a problem. The justice system isn't perfect, in our world or the show's, and the story acknowledges that. But in a social, cultural way, they don't act like cops. They DO act like detectives. But the rules they choose to break and the ones they choose to follow will hopefully satisfy my fellow cop-haters who crave a good mystery
The format
♠️♣️♥️♦️Three of Hearts♦️♥️♣️♠️ is an Indie actual play — this is not DnD, hear me out — podcast in the game Space Kings. All the tension of dice rolls, without drawn out combat or clunkiness, it's a breeze of story-forward listening, even if you've never listened to actually play podcasts before!
If you've tried dnd actual plays, and haven't like the flow of them, I would recommend trying this. A few encounters that may feel random (though they're not) get the story kicked off at a fast pace, but it quickly settles into a story with a tight plot, great pacing, and impactful character development.
The use of a playing card deck to see the outcomes of risky actions means that no matter what happens, success or failure, the tension keeps rising. And the hosts do a wonderful job of explaining mechanics in the show, so it never interrupts the listening experience.
Actual-play connessuires who want to primarily see people playing a game might not be satisfied, as bonuses are given liberally, and I would describe the podcast as more story focused than game focused, But the risks are ALWAYS real, sometimes (often) with thrilling, shocking outcomes.
Also concerned AP listeners should know there's some chaos magic involved! I was surprised when it first came up, and doubtful about how it might affect the story, but it ended up weaving into the rest of the plot really well, and I feel neither like it had no affect, nor like it shook up everything the party was building in an unsatisfying way. Personally I would have preferred to go in knowing it was there, but I also don't think it's major enough to belong in the main synopsis. Now you know, though!
The hosts make a real effort to blend stats and story, and I think the pull it off wonderfully without spending too much time on mechanics. If you want to see that though, session 0 and other details are on the Patreon (where you get the same content no matter how much you pay, at a minimum of a dollar a month).
The pod has all the lighthearted fun and banter of a "friends around the table" show, but never once have I had that "oh my god, I'm not a part of your inside joke, shut up and play!" Feeling.
I think it's a delight for AP and non-AP fans alike.
The episodes: roughly 45- 75 minutes long, with a midtro and some post-end music scenes, so listen through the end music, or check that there isn't extra content by seeing how close the play head is when the end music starts. It's not too long and quite pleasant in my opinion! The midtros always come at a nice moment to step back from the story, and are not too long and not irritating. I enjoyed listening to them! At some point, a midtro starts getting reused, and I was slightly disappointed I wasn't hearing new jokes every episode, but it's a small thing. I skip the repetitive ones with my 30 seconds forward button, and while I haven't timed the Intro, that's worked really well for me. I don't have to fiddle with my play head to make sure I don't skip forward too far. Super convient.
Trigger warnings: the show is pretty lighthearted! Listeners sensitive non-graphic mentions of needles, blood, and/or guns might want to skip on this one, but most episodes don't get heavy. The few that do have pre episodes notes that warn you things get dark, how they get dark, and how to skip the darkest bits. Personally, I listened through them and enjoyed those parts a lot! But if that's not your thing, I agree with the warning that they're very skippable, and I think trigger-sensitive listeners will be pleased. As an indie pod, there are no fan made, super specific lists of triggers. However, my DMs are always open if you have particular concerns, and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
I try to emphasize the balance between lightheartedness and drama, but if you mental health is sensitive to grim & dark media, i think this one is pretty safe. Please always exercise caution! But I'd describe 30♥️s as emotionally restful.
Transcripts: transcripts are in the works, but do not currently exist. Three of Hearts is a non-scripted show, so those are also unavailable
The rep
Don't you hate when someone raves about rep and you go in expecting something good and get like. One dog-boy described as having "chocolate colored skin"? Or when people make a "watch for rep" post and then mention like. Gay and maybe trans people and that's it, even when shows DO have disability and POC rep? Yeah that's not me. Here's the spoiler free rundown, race is at the bottom because I get into more detail with it, not because it isn't important:
Edit: For more on some of these topics from a hosts perspective, see the reblogged addition by @/citrusandsalt
MLM characters: Main characters, one confirmed bi the other unknown
Wlw characters: Reoccurring side characters (present or mentioned in every episode I think) Married. Orientation unspecified.
Enby love: LOTS. It's actually hard to really categorize mlm and wlw stuff because almost every character is nonbinary. Anyways— it's VERY queer
Women: I...I don't know exactly which characters are women 😂. But there are many feminine characters, and they're badass as fuck. Some are compassionate, some are cold, some are chaotic, most are a mix! The two main characters are...masculine...(I say with much hesitation) but you will not feel robbed for your woman-ly content.
Non-traditional family structures: All of the families in the story, pretty much, are non-traditional. Adoption is super common. (You want some wlw who just KEEP adopting kids? You got em) Found family is a MASSIVE force in the story. Also, It's a post-war story.........which is to say almost everyone's parents are dead.
Edit: an MC had poly parents, which may not be obvious but is true!
Polyamory: to my knowledge so far, there are polyam characters, and it is definitely present in the world! But no poly relationships in the forefront. I am about 2/3 through the current episodes, so there may be a present polyamorous relationship later, but also if I confirmed it that would be a spoiler. This may be that "playing it by ear" thing that happens with ttrpgs. I wouldn't listen for the hope of polyamory alone, but I don't tell you it's not there/won't happen.
Trans characters: almost all of them. Might think "oh there are only a few!" And you are wrong. You are so wrong.
Neopronoun users: yup! To my knowledge, minor characters. A handful who use at least he/she/they or they/them and may also use neos in a manner im forgetting
Plurality: no system characters yet, but the creators are friendly, I asked ;)
Platonic relationships: YES. As an aro person who hates so many romance tropes this one gets my stamp of approval. There's no real jealousy drama, exes who communicate and are supportive, and romance doesn't kill friendships. There's a central sibling relationship and non-familial platonic ones that have conflict, drama, resolutions, and a deeply satisfying significance in the story. If you don't like romance at all, this one might not be for you. If you just don't like stories exclusively about romance, I think you'll enjoy this. Genre wise, I'd definitely describe three of hearts as a mystery primarily with a strong romantic subplot, not a romance itself, and that comes through in player and character's additives and priorities.
Aro/ace characters: none confirmed yet to my knowledge. Romance is very central, sex is joked about on occasion but it isn't at the forefront of the story at all. There are many, single characters who are thriving.
Edit: Actually! There is one character who discusses demiromanticism in cannon that I forgot, and another confirmed out of cannon character who is ace. Both are non-main major characters!
Age diversity: the youngest characters in the show are older to middling teens, and the oldest are in their 400s. Okay but the oldest in human terms are roughly 60-70. The most common age range, and the ones the central characters are in, is 30-40. The second most common is that 60-70, then some ~40-50 folks here and there, with people in their 20s being probably the rarest (no named ones off the top of my head?) And there are a small number of teens. This is not a story about youth and youthful beauty. Generally, the older a character becomes the most bad ass/spooky powerful they are, and older characters are very involved in the plot.
Mental illness and neurodivergency: to my knowledge so far no characters are in cannon confirmed to have a specific mental illness or ND, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of a character or the main characters, and just hadn't come up. Listeners with cluster b or "scary" disorders, or with conditions that may cause them to lash out, will find satisfaction with how compassionately the narrative treats werefolk. To say more encounters spoilers. I would also say that depression, while the word isn't used and it is not central to the story, is present as a narrative force, and also treated wisely and with compassion. Still, as is usually for a good story, all of these bitches need therapy.
Disability: LOTS. There's a lot of "different, not broken" themes that disabled listeners are likely to love, but both of the main characters are disabled! One is a cane user, the other experiences migraines. These have a genuine, pressing, mechanical impact on the story. It's COMES UP. It's a real joy. For a magical world, there is no magical healing! Or there is, but it isn't a perfect solution, which in my opinion is just a magical version of real healing, though yours may differ! Also, there is a minor, reoccurring character who's a wheelchair user, and I think he's really fun.
Disfigurement: Excuse me if I am not prepared with the most sensitive way to speak about this, but I'm doing my best! There is a character with no eyes or nose, who is central and lovely. To my knowledge, there are no amputee characters or characters with limb differences (of the wheelchair user I'm not sure if it's specified whether or not he has legs). There is a character of questionable morality who has significant facial and bodily disfigurement. In as few spoilers as possible: this was not injury or genetic related. The disfigurement is treated with a firm compassion, and does not exist as a "this character is evil" signal. It's a long arc, but I imagine people who relate will be satisfied, though I cannot speak for anyone.
Characters of color: many! The main two are Hispanic and Asian. Terms like "dark skinned" are used for characters, but in the fantasy world race doesn't exactly translate, and I wouldn't call it "important" in this story. Read more about race below:
Fantasy racism: sort of! The word "race" is used to mean "humanoid species" and I know some folks don't like that? None of these fantasy races are oppressed, but specific people (Magic versus non-magic people) have conflict about that aspect of their identity, and policing is a related concern. I would place the allegory more in the space of transness and disability/neurodivergency if pressed to choose, but it doesn't feel like it's trying to tell a story about real-world oppression, primarily. I have more complicated thoughts on exactly what I'm trying to communicate here, but they involved some spoilers. DM me for more info!
Hosts/creator identity: out of three hosts, two are white, one is not! They are very queer, and disability is also...a thing! These are real life people, so I'm not going to get into detail, but check out their twitters plugged in the show for more on how they self-identify.
Okay but are they racist: Real talk! As a black person who thinks I keep my ears sharp, I would say no! Not at all! This is one of those situations where I was like "YOU'RE WHITE?" And shocked about it, (if you listened to TSCOSI, same vibe) which is a very good thing in my books. The hosts are open and sensitive, and I have no complaints, however, this is just one perspective! This isn't coincidental, race is an active consideration in how the story is told — just not a central theme.
Edit: One of the hosts, Essay (@/citrusandsalts) discussed more on hosts identities in a reblog! If this concerns you, and you want less of me walking on eggshells about other people's identities, read her addition too!
Edit 2: Jordan, the GM also has commented additions!
Minor but worth mentioning: A minor character has a name with what I believe is the Nahuatl "tl" sound in it, which is not pronounced correctly. It's a really hard sound! I can't really do it! But if that really irritates you this might not be the podcast for you.
People who might be interested in this post, as always let me know if you don't want to be pinged (I rarely ever do this) and it won't happen again: @citrusandsalt @fyeahaudiodrama @boombox-fuckboy

There's not a lot of strawhats-in-the-real-world AUs, so I'm here to fill that void! This has been on my mind for a hot minute now, so let's talk about the characters in One Piece if they were youtubers!
Tumblr media
Click to reveal!
Tumblr media
Luffy - Travel Vlogger
Channel: IAMLUFFY
Subscriber Count: 7 Million.
Luffy would 100% be the unintentionally annoying vlogger who just streams and records everything. He's more likely to shove a camera in your face by accident, but he's also the guy who makes really engaging content and does more unique things than your average vlogger. He'd actually be a pretty big name in the vlogging sphere I'd imagine, and while vlogging channels tend to have lower subcounts, I think that 7m would be a good number for him to have. Luffy would also be down to record with other people (regardless of their sub count), and wouldn't mind traveling halfway across the world to do a one-off collab (especially if you agree to feed him).
His content: His content would revolve around travel, food, everyday living, and funny anecdotes. The editing would be very fast-paced with lots of graphics, and sound effects. He'd need to have an editor, and that poor editor would just be swamped with hours upon hours of random footage of him eating, or picking his nose. Lots of B-roll potential!

Tumblr media
Zoro - Fitness Guru/Vlogger.
Channel: Roronoa Zoro
Subscriber Count: 3 Million.
It's a no-brainer that Zoro would be a fitness influencer. He would never have thought of becoming an influencer, but Luffy probably recorded him working out in some of his early vlogs, and convinced him to start his own channel. He wouldn't be as into vlogging as Luffy, and definitely wouldn't put much of his personal life out there, but he'd still show what he did and make it somewhat entertaining. Zoro would have fangirls up the wazoo! Especially since he trains without his shirt on, and always shows himself working out. I don't think he'd do collabs on his channel, but he'd always accept being in one of Luffy's vlogs, or even guest starring on Sanji's show (more on that later--).
Content: I think his content would be focused on posting his daily schedule, what he ate, how he worked out, etc. as well as a weekly weigh-in. He'd occasionally post his kendo tournaments and would encourage people to try it out, and make tutorials on all things kendo. I have a feeling he'd probably have the most sponsorship offers, but he'd turn down the vast majority of them (since a lot of them are scams). I don't think he'd have an editor since he seems like the kind of guy to just slap it together with some music behind it and post it to YT or Insta. I can even imagine him getting quite decent at editing and filming, and using Brook's music (with permission ofc). I think he'd also talk about stuff about the gym, what he likes vs. doesn't like, and sometimes talk while he works out.
Videos:
Don't do this at the gym.
I hate gym memberships.

Tumblr media
Sanji - Cooking Show
Channel: Devil's Kitchen with Sanji
Subscriber Count: 3 Million.
I don't think I need to explain why Sanji would have a cooking show, but I imagine it more like Binging with Babish with fun challenges, instead of straight up Kitchen Nightmares/reality TV. He'd have the highest production value out of the strawhats with a cameraman and 2-3 editors, and he'd probably be the only one to actually get a show on cable (separate from his YT). Sanji would be more likely to bring guests onto his show, and I can see Zoro being a frequent guest. Would not be surprised if they start a podcast tbh. Wouldn't be surprised if they also lived together
Content:
His content would be a lot less 'indie' feeling and more high quality. Lots of cool camera angles and editing. His stuff would end up on Food P*rn I'd imagine. Like, all the time. Sanji would probably be asked to collab with other people, and he'd take a lot more sponsorships too. Soy Sauce wants to sponsor him? Hell yeah, he'd do it! Bang Energy Drink? Well, no. He still has standards. I can imagine him doing a lot of 'How-to' videos and diet-focused videos, like "How to Cook for Vegans", or "Best Gluten-Free Recipes". He'd probably be in and out of relationships quite a lot too, maybe some controversies? (Lemme know if ya'll want some headcannons for that.)
Videos:
Chocolate Kisses for Valentine | Cooking with Sanji.
Professional Chef vs Home Cook (ft. My Dumb Roommate.)
Tricking Meat-Eaters with Vegan Alternatives (Beyond Meat.)
^^ That one is 100% sponsored btw.
And that's the end of that! Lemme know if you guys want to see more, or have any suggestions!

this is a genuine question not at all meant as a rude gotcha, but I feel like I've seen lots of people cite the relatively low barrier of entry as a huge advantage of podcasts as a medium, "if you have access to decent audio tech you can make a podcast" etc etc. So where does the need to sell a script come in? Is it a financial thing, and IP thing, something else?
this doesn't read like a rude gotcha at all, it's a really good question! there is a much lower barrier to entry when it comes to podcasts compared to tv, film, theater, etc. (though not as low as writing a book if we're talking about hard resources - you can technically write a book with just a laptop and a dream and then self publish! though as a writer who has written a lot of scripts and four books (3 published) writing a book is a much bigger psychological burden imo lol).
the need to sell a script, for me, is entirely a financial thing. if I had the money to produce podcasts at the level I want to entirely independently, I would! I know how to do it! but, unfortunately, I really only have the funds to produce something like @breakerwhiskey - a single narrator daily podcast that I make entirely on my own.
and that show is actually a great example of just how low the barrier is: I actually record the whole thing on a CB radio I got off of ebay for 30 bucks, my editing software is $50/month (I do a lot of editing, so this is an expense that isn't just for that show) and there are no hosting costs for it. the only thing it truly costs me is time and effort.
not every show I want to make is single narrator. a lot of the shows I've made involve large casts, full sound design, other writers, studio recording, scoring, and sometimes full cast albums (my first show, The Bright Sessions had all of those). I've worked on shows that have had budgets of 100 dollars and worked on shows that cost nearly half a million dollars. if anyone is curious about the nitty gritty of budgets, I made a huge amount of public, free resources about making audio drama earlier this year that has example budgets in these ranges!
back in the beginning of my career, I asked actors to work for free or sound designers to work for a tiny fee, because I was doing it all for free and we were all starting out. I don't like doing that anymore. so even if I'm making a show with only a few actors and a single sound designer...well, if you want an experienced sound designer and to pay everyone fairly (which I do!), it's going to cost you at least a few thousand dollars. when you're already writing something for free, it can be hard to justify spending that kind of money. I've sound designed in the past - and will be doing so again in the near future for another indie show of mine - but I'm not very good at it. that's usually the biggest expense that I want to have covered by an outside budget.
but if I'm being really honest, I want to be paid to write! while I do a lot of things - direct, produce, act, consult, etc. - writing is my main love and I want it to be the majority of my income. I'm really fortunate to be a full-time creative and I still do a lot of work independently for no money, but when I have a show that would be too expensive to produce on my own, ideally I want someone else footing the bill and paying me to write the scripts.
I love that audio fiction has the low barrier to entry it does, because I think hobbyists are incredible - it is a beautiful and generous thing to provide your labor freely to something creative and then share it with the world - but the barrier to being a professional audio drama writer is certainly higher. I'm very lucky to already be there, but, as every creative will tell you, even after you've had several successes and established yourself in the field, it can still be hard to make a living!
anyway, I hope this answers your question! I love talking about this stuff, so if anyone else is curious about this kind of thing, please ask away.

Sully Family Modern AU Headcanons
Characters: Jake, Neytiri, Kiri, Tuk, Neteyam, Mo’at, Lo’ak
Warnings: None :)
Summary: Just some headcanons of what the Sully’s would be like in our modern world
Taglist & Masterlist
Tumblr media
Jake
Jake would def be a military dad and sometimes be doing too much but Netyiri always drags him back to earth
Goes all out for his kids’ extracurricular activities. He’s always there with a camera or trying to tell his kids what to do
Sometimes can get hard on his kids (esp Lo’ak) bc he wants to them to not make the same mistakes he did
Runs a nonprofit to help warriors who lost their limbs and/or struggling with PTSD from the first war
A girl dad all the way, he folds so hard when it comes to Kiri and Tuk
Is best buds with Tonowari and is always trading embarrassing stories with him
Much to their children’s dismay
Sometimes they go on camping trips together
Loves to prank his children and embarrassing them lovingly
Finds it hard to talk about Tommy and Tsu’tey but wants his kids to know their uncles so he pushes through
Listens to classic rock and country, you cannot tell me otherwise
Tries (and fails) to get his kids into it
Neytiri humors him at times and would admit (not to his face tho) that some of it is good
Neytiri
She is an instructor at a really good archery school
Loves to drink tea and Kiri always buys her different kinds from her “impulsive drives”
Still does all of the kids’ hair and retwist Jake’s locs for them
Save money and she makes it into a self-care for the person
And the kids do her hair as well
Is a mama bear and not afraid to tell someone off to protect her family
Is really into sustainable to protect Pandora
She mostly listens to podcasts but has a shared playlist with Jake
Teaches her kids self-defense and takes it very seriously
Helps out with fundraising for her kids clubs and schools if needed
But not really involved in the pta unless it involves her kids directly
She respects boundaries but really hates it when her family is in distress and won’t say anything
Goes on walks and hikes with Jake
They have a weekly date night to de-stress from the kids
Neteyam
School President and captain of whatever school team he plays for. Maybe soccer or volleyball
Girls, guys, honestly anyone whoever is attracted to guys def looked Neteyam’s way twice
But all those good looks but no rizz at all
What a shame
Lo’ak said it skipped Neteyam and went straight to him
Into mangas but his taste in them are all over the place. One day reading Haikyuu the next reading The Promised Neverland
Big 180
Similarly, his tastes are the same in music. Some day into indie the next heavy rock. But if asked, his favorite is indie full stop
Would be valedictorian of his school and all the teachers love him
Saved up for his first car and would die before he lets Lo’ak get behind the wheel
Road rage driver and got it from his parents
Is a tutor who does it for money but will help someone outta the kindness of his heart if needed
Feel immense pressure to be the best at everything he does. Which leads to burnout and his family stepping in
That intervention led to lots of hugs and tears
Promises to do better on Jake’s part
Had a Hamilton the musical phase, and sometimes will go back to the songs he really likes
Kiri
Really into crystals, plants, and herbalism
Has a garden in their backyard that is extremely well-taken care of
Into activism for many groups but her main focus would be the environment
Doesn't want Pandora to turn into Earth now
Has a well-known blog dedicated to plants and helps inform ppl about the dangers of greenhouse emissions
Her fashion taste is long but breathable dresses and doc martens
Goes thrift shopping with Neytiri and that's how she met Tsireya and her mom
While their moms had a rocky start the two girls were besties since the beginning
Prolly sapphic if I'm being honest with you
The only one that Neteyam trust with his car
A vegan and convinced her family to have non-meat Mondays
Has been bullied in the past for being “weird” and now has a silver tongue. People think twice before saying something slick to her. Bc it’s either her words or her brothers’ fist
Cuts her own hair. The first time was an impulse but she loves the way it looks so she continued
Has this really calming presence around her that attracts ppl but she prefers to do her own thing.
Lo’ak
Definitely into hip-pop,rap, and r&b (I will not be convinced otherwise)
Wears a lot of street wear style clothes but those Nike techs got him in a chokehold
Always in detention for fighting someone or playing a prank that blows up in his face
Room a mess 24/7 but somehow has an order to it that only he understands
Like Neytiri or Neytam would ask him to find something and he’ll get it within 5 seconds
One of those to joke flirty with a lot of girls but if it’s someone he really like (like Tsireya for example) he get real shy around her
Owns a skateboard and is always at the skatepark. It’s how he made peace with Rotxo after their lil scuffle on the first day of school
And by proxy Ao’nung
When he wants to, he can get really deep and have personal conversations with a person
Will probably play a sport like hockey or something that’s really action based
He got that W rizz on lock, at least that’s what he claims
Into animes like Blue Lock, AOT, Chainsaw man
But can't get into the mangas for some reason
When he was younger a stray dog saved him. Convinced his parents to adopt the dog. Named him Palkan
Tuk
An iPad kid and loves Toca Boca
Also kids bop and the family hates it
She’s a picky eater
Bc the songs are just stuck in their heads
Wants to do every sport and join every club.
Settled on girl scout for the cookies and friends, but mostly cookies
Charges her family extra for boxes
Always gets her way bc everyone is wrapped around her finger
And honestly, Jake and Neytiri gave up on parenting
Definitely called Ao’nung a penis face at least once
After that Jake and Neytiri had a serious discussion around what can and cannot be said around a 7 year old w/ the older kids
Has caught Lo’ak sneaking out on multiple occasions and uses it to blackmail him
Most ppl (at least Tsireya) think he’s a loving older brother. But the fam knows something is up
Is not in charge of packing her own lunch bc it's literally all junk food
Once a month, she, Kiri, and Neytiri have a girl’s day. Each of them can choose what they do each month.
Gets the most money from Grandma when birthdays comes around
She is in love with Starbucks and mainly spend her cash money on getting drinks that sounds or looks good. If she don’t like the drink, then she gives it to Kiri to finish them
Bonus:
Mo’at
Spoils her grandchildren way too much
But there is not much Jake and Neytiri can do about it
Says she has no favorites but it is 100% Kiri
Still thinks about her dead husband and is sad that he’ll never meet his grandchildren or his son-in-law
Has seen and know it all
If the kids are having trouble they go to her for advice but she so wise in all matters
Has traveled the world more than once and would love to do it again
But is still a homebody
Really spiritual and it’s something she and Kiri bond over
For all her loving, she will give her family a harsh talking to if needed
Total badass, where you think Neytiri got it from?

To read my full recommendation and review of Three of Hearts, click below. ♦️♥️♣️♠️
And if you aren't in the mood for a new thing right now, consider reblogging! Maybe even ping a friend who might be into this! You love supporting queer indie creators, right?
But the rules they choose to break and the ones they choose to follow will hopefully satisfy my fellow cop-haters who crave a good mystery
mid post note: I am not involved with the making of the show or the game space Kings. I just really like this podcast. Also, if you are seeing this text you are looking at a copy of the original posted on an unused sideblog so that I can keep the notes separate from my naturally spreading original without looking like a bot, and not get blaze notification spam.the references to "look in the notes for more" won't work for you. Yes, I spent my own money on this.
The use of a playing card deck to see the outcomes of risky actions means that no matter what happens, success or failure, the tension keeps rising, because there are only so many successes in the deck before you shuffle. The hosts do a wonderful job of explaining mechanics in the show, so it never interrupts the listening experience.
If you want to see that though, session 0 and other crunchy details are on the Patreon (where you get the same content no matter how much you pay, at a minimum of a dollar a month).
The pod has all the lighthearted fun and banter of a "friends around the table" show, but never once have I had that "oh my god, I'm not a part of your inside joke, shut up and play!" Feeling.
EDIT: i did not know "friends around the table" was the name of another podcast. no hate to them I'm sure they're lovely, this was just the use of a phrase.
Super convenient.
Trigger warnings: the show is pretty lighthearted! Listeners sensitive non-graphic mentions of needles, blood, and/or guns might want to skip on this one, but most episodes don't get heavy. The few that do have pre-episode notes that warn you things get dark, how they get dark, and how to skip the darkest bits. Personally, I listened through them and enjoyed those parts a lot! But if that's not your thing, I agree with the warning that they're very skippable, and I think trigger-sensitive listeners will be pleased. As an indie pod, there are no fan made, super specific lists of triggers.
I'm trying to emphasize the balance between lightheartedness and drama, but if your mental health is sensitive to grim & dark media, i think this one is pretty safe. Please always exercise caution! But I'd describe 3o♥️s as emotionally restful.
Transcripts: transcripts are in the works, but do not currently exist except for episodes 1 and 2. Three of Hearts is a non-scripted show, so those are also unavailable. Some of the money given to the show will be used to hire a queer disabled transcriptionist! So if you listen and love it, consider sending cash their way. All transcripts are on patreon for free.
Aro/ace characters: none confirmed yet to my knowledge. Romance is very central, sex is joked about on occasion but it isn't at the forefront of the story at all. There are many, single characters who are thriving.
Edit: Actually! There is one character who discusses demiromanticism in cannon that I forgot, and another confirmed out of cannon character who is ace. Both are non-main major characters!
Edit: One of the hosts, Essay (@/citrusandsalts) discussed more on hosts identities in a reblog! If this concerns you, and you want less of me walking on eggshells about other people's identities, read her addition too!
Edit 2: Jordan, the GM also has commented additions!
Minor but worth mentioning: A minor character has a name with what I believe is the Nahuatl "tl" sound in it, which is not pronounced correctly. It's a really hard sound! And I, op, can't really do it! But if that really irritates you this might not be the podcast for you.

Last Monday of the Week 2024-03-25
Can't tell if this is allergies or if I'm sick because spring is in the air
Listening: I have been listening to The Layover podcast, the behind the scenes podcast for Jet Lag The Game. I only got into Jet Lag pretty recently because I had Nebula anyway and saw it come up. Great show, both because the premise is great (carefully designed games incorporating travel on the scale of countries) and because they can actually edit this incredibly difficult pile of footage into something readable.
The Behind The Scenes is an interesting mix of talk about the on-the-ground situation of playing the game and the filmmaking that goes on after the fact, there's some cool insight into how and why they edit the way they do and it shows why it works so well.
I think you have to have Nebula to listen to the podcast? It does just spit out an RSS feed if you ask nicely though. Thank you podcasts.
Watching: Actually watched The Gay And Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, the video series that launched like two dozen reaction images.

It's funny, it's a well put together indie comedy series. You've probably seen most of the really standout bits already even if you don't know it already but it is worth watching as a time capsule of web comedy, it's less than two hours long all told.
Reading: Started Glory In The Thunder by 0xabad1dea. I don't know what her real name is. I've had GITT in my ebooks library forever, 0xabad1dea is the main reason I got on twitter back in like 2016 (her and a couple other software blogs) and is why my Fediverse feed is still like a quarter security researchers by weight. She's probably one of the most well known static analysis researchers in the world.
Anyway Glory In The Thunder is a gaslamp-ish fantasy, although leaning very fantasy on the gaslamps. Very teenage characters which is whiplash but only because it's been a moment. Lots of very loud characters who announce themselves and their intentions, some fun seven dimensional politics going on, and a lot of jumping back and forth in the histories of the various gods who are constantly hanging around in the plot.
I think @shieldfoss has bugged me to read this before so you'll be glad to know that I am now.
I like this, I'm about halfway through. It's easy to keep track of despite having enough fantasy names to choke a horse, although I should really stop worrying about that, I've read the Shadowdance series you really have to try to beat that one. It's also a free book, you can get it at @gloryinthethunder.
Playing: Got a VR headset. Fidgeting with said headset. Figured out how to do wireless linked VR from Linux and Windows which is good, I should have all the kinks worked out, I'll have to see how I square the onboard capabilities of the Quest 2 with having a PC and fast WiFi.
Making: Finally run through enough smaller prints on the new hotend to feel confident running off the final endcap, so that's done. The parts of the 3D printed NAS case are complete, and I have started my first pass sanding which is going to take a while because PETG is very slippery. Once that's sanded I'll take it in to the shared workshop and run through some primer layers and some paint.
Tools and Equipment: Flat network cable is a godsend if you're running it in open air in a house. Absolutely useless for pulling through walls or running in conduit, and completely bereft of shielding, but having a flat cord that can press up against frames and sideboards really does make it all neater. I ran flat cat6 for all of this.

As young women, reading the age-old classic, novel we are conditioned to think in certain ways through the intricacies and structures of language. Here we have tried to rewrite a small yet intriguing snippet from the lives of the March sisters. It gives us, young women of the 21st century, a sneak peek into how their lives would've been, if they lived in a world embedded in technologies like ours. How does access to technology change femininity? Its performativity?
"The Little Women's Modern-Day Adventures"
Alright, picture this: The March sisters from "Little Women" living it up in the 21st century. Here's a little snippet that we tried to conjure up, who knows it might give you a laugh? You may if you please indulge in hypertext link hopping perhaps to give you a much more deeper insight into the world that we have tried to create through the devices of our digitality, a world of many more little women, from across the globe, an ode to female directors who have created stories of women and men alike .
Here we present, A text within a text within a text..., into the hypertext multiverse, into
“Little Women: - A Cinematic Tapestry”
Jo, the writer , is now a blogger with a huge following. She's always with her laptop throwing out viral articles about life, love, and feminism. She's even got a podcast called "Marching On" where she interviews women from all walks of life.
Meg, the eldest and responsible one, is now a successful influencer and lifestyle YouTuber. She's got this adorable family channel going on, where she does DIY home décor tips and fashion hauls. She's living the suburban dream in her vlogs, but don't be fooled; she can still throw down with the best of them at a mommy-and-me yoga class.
Beth, the shy and sweet musician, is a rising indie folk artist. Her melancholic melodies and heartfelt lyrics have captured the hearts of millions over the world. She's the type of artist who performs at tiny, intimate venues, and her fans adore her for it.
Amy, the artistic, ambitious one, is now one of the best art curators at a prestigious New York gallery. She has an eye for spotting the next big thing in the art world. Amy can put a price tag on a random scribble and make it seem like a masterpiece and people love it!
Their mom, Marmee, a retired therapist, now offers free counselling sessions on zoom. She’s a mum that her patients don’t have, dishing out sage advice and sending warm hugs through the screen.
The women still get together for Sunday brunch, where they share stories of their crazy adventures in the modern world. They're thriving in their own unique ways, but the bonds of sisterhood and their love for one another remain as strong as ever. Yep, even in this digital age, "Little Women" are making it big!

—OC DETAILS MEME ;; @shivasdarknight: 🎶💯 for all of your girls .o.
🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often? (also asked by @bornfornothin!) 💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know. this post already got super long so some of it will go under the cut
Terrah
🎶MUSIC TASTES— She's the kind of woman to end her day with her record player, spinning vinyls until the wee hours of the evening to bedtime. While she's sketching out new machine designs or writing up new reports, she's listening to music. I'd say in a given day, she's spending 60% of it listening to music. Favorite Sound Profiles: Sensual, Rhythmic, Solid Vocals Favorite Genres: R&B (70-2010s), Hip-Hop (70-90s), Country (70s-80s) Music on her "Liked Playlist": ✦ Tennessee Whiskey - Chris Stapleton ✦ Fast Car - Tracy Chapman ✦ Me & Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul ✦ You Dropped a Bomb on Me - The Gap Band ✦ I'm Every Woman - Chaka Khan
💯RANDOM FACTS ✦ As I mentioned in a previous post, Terrah is terrifyingly good at putting apart, fixing, & destroying anything mechanical. This is primarily for equipment that she can get her hands on, and more for those with explicit mechanical components like in a car or fridge. ✦ Because of her deft hands, when she was still in college, she started a side hustle fixing other people's cars or computers. From the circuit board to the full system, she found a solution to the problem and charged a hefty amount. ✦ On the flip side of this, she's not computer savvy. She's not a programmer or even on social media that much. She's good with the CAD programs & analytical tools she has to use for work, but anything IT-related? Ask someone else because she won't be the woman to figure that out.
Tumblr media
Lilah
🎶MUSIC TASTES— Funnily enough, I don't think Lilah actually listens to music that often, as she's more likely to consume a podcast or watch a TV show over listening to a song. She does occasionally put on music while she's writing. She much prefers going to a live concert. On a given day, Lilah is probably spending 30% of that day listening to music. Favorite Sound Profiles: Angry, Boisterous, Genre-Bending Favorite Genres: Pop (2000-2010s), Indie (2000-2020s), Rock (90s-2020s), Lo-Fi/Instrumental (2000-2020) Music on her "Liked Playlist": ✦ Girlfriend - hemlock springs ✦ Good 4 You - Olivia Rodrigo ✦ Cobra - Megan Thee Stallion ✦ Bitter - FLETCHER ✦ Phonies - Dorian Electra
💯RANDOM FACTS ✦ Due to growing up in a small town that was hyper-fixated on her appearance & mere existence, Lilah occasionally has anxiety attacks if she feels like a lot of eyes are on her. She doesn't like to be stared at by strangers, and if there's a creeping feeling that she's being followed, it will trigger a panic attack. Ironic, given her dream profession. ✦ After she got herself established in her career, Lilah is just prone to taking spontaneous road trips to herself - only taking her sachel, money, a book, and an idea. She would then take that as a 2-week sabbatical where she'd write up a new novel in that timespan and bring it back to the world. ✦ All of Lilah's novels are short reads (~60-70K words a piece), and they all explore aspects of her understanding of life & love. She's self-published, normally posting her books under her pseudonym. All of the books tell her story at different intervals, and if someone knew her, they could read it and know that these "fictional, coming of age" stories were about her.
Tumblr media
Avian
🎶MUSIC TASTES— Although melancholy seems to follow Avian's aura, her music speaks differently to that. While she's working the night shift, she has her headphones ringing more upbeat, optimistic music. While her tastes are varied, they do lean more towards older tunes and music that touch on some gospel with strong vocals. These are also tunes that Avian's dancing through during the night as she's organizing medication. In a day, about 70% of Avian's time is spent listening to music. Favorite Sound Profiles: Soulful, Strong Instrumentals, Old School Favorite Genres: R&B (60-90s), Blues (50-70s), Folk (50-80s), Jazz (40s-2010s), Gospel (90s-2010s) Music on her "Liked Playlist": ✦ FREEDOM - Jon Baptise ✦ My Way - Aloe Blacc ✦ Easy Living - Billie Holiday ✦ Into Each Life, Some Rain Must Fall - Ella Fitzgerald, The Ink Spots ✦ Hound Dog - Big Mama Thorton
💯RANDOM FACTS ✦ Avian is classically trained in ballroom dancing thanks to her dad - it was one of the few activities he got her into so she didn't become a complete shut-in. Specifically, Avian can swing dance, waltz, and foxtrot. Avian enjoyed the dancing part but did not enjoy the part with her weird partners hitting on her afterward. ✦ Avian is "technically" religious but in a spiritual way. James never forced her to go to church with him but did guide her to learn how to use religion that best suited her & her lifestyle. She didn't buy into religion much until her father passed away, and so she leans into spirituality as a way to keep herself sane. I wouldn't consider her a bible humper, but Avian does wear a cross of Christ as her own grounding point. ✦ Because of her previous dance experience, Avian is a lot more quick-witted than a lot of people give her credit for. This was shown once when she got to step in for an intramural sport in high school. Her friend pushed her to play softball for a game against another school and Avian killed it. It was the one time a group was begging Avian to stay on the softball team but she said no because Avian didn't like sports.
Tumblr media
Elvira
🎶MUSIC TASTES— Elvira rarely listens to music, and if she does, it's typically in between flights or trains she's on as she's traveling. She doesn't dislike music, per se, but she's one of the few people who rather sit with her own thoughts than let them be flooded by music. She's a very passive listener, and she may put it on in the background if she's cleaning or cooking, but again, she may prioritize listening to the news or putting a TV show on. Most music to Ivy is supposed to be played at a party, anyway. About 20% of her day is spent listening to music. Favorite Sound Profiles: Boisterious, Goofy, Rhythm Over Lyrics Favorite Genres: Rap/Hip Hop (80-2020s), Reggae/Soca (90-2000s) Music on her "Liked Playlist": ✦ Rock, Paper, Strippers - Teezo Touchdown ✦ Fye Fye - Tobe Nwigwe ✦ Murder She Wrote - Chaka Demus & Pliers ✦ So Special - Mavado ✦ Here Comes Trouble - Chronixx
💯RANDOM FACTS ✦ A lot of Ivy's current black/gothic style was inspired by her mother; Ivy grew up looking over the old Polaroids of her mother and her long black locs & black lipstick idolizing how powerful she looked in those old pictures. Because of this, that has influenced a lot of Ivy's current wardrobe. She actually locs her own hair in honor of her mother. ✦ Ivy transitioned early thanks to her mother's support. After Ivy's father left their lives, her mother took pride in her child's choice and assisted in giving Ivy the life she wanted. This required Ivy to transfer schools so she could start with a clean slate, but by the time Ivy was 13, she could start living her true self. ✦ Ivy has been arrested a handful of times, but never charged. This was mostly throughout her young adulthood, as she was often the one stepping into fights to break them up to protect other people. She has gotten lucky that her connections ran deep with good people to avoid the actual time, but the old Manchester police department likely knows Ivy by name, and they're waiting on the day she falls back to rock bottom.

heeyyyy
about those booktubers you mentioned that talk of a wide range of book types 👀 could you rec me some pretty please?
Yeah ofc!! I mean I should warn you is that they do mostly read fantasy, but they do have other favorites and genres they like, but fantasy is their favorite (...because fantasy is my favorite so ofc I follow the ones with similar tastes)
Daniel Greene- Talks about the scifi fantasy world as a whole, has a segment of videos called Fantasy News covering new fantasy stuff for all mediums, not just books. HUGE fan of The Wheel Of Time and tbh where I got a crap ton of my recs for fantasy series. He has tons of like, ranking videos and stuff just talking about the fantasy genre from newest to oldest to trad to indie and it's great. Also his bookshelf roasts are great.
A Clockwork Reader- One of the first I watched, is a big fan of like, soft fantasy? She used to say magical realism but then she and i learned that that is a latin american term and I forgot what the alternative for the name is for it, and google isn't helping. Her favorite book is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern so, books like that, with that vibe. Should note is that for fantasy she does lean more towards ya but there is a good amount of adult in there. She loves classics and poetry as well and reads a good decent amount of nonfiction, especially if it's about intersectionality and feminism. I also like her voice, it's pretty soothing.
Unresolved Textual Tension- Technically a podcast, but they have youtube videos. I love these guys, they're so funny. I found them when they were tearing apart Lightlark and then other infamous books. But they do have plently of books they adore they talk about. AND THEIR OPINIONS ON STUFF DIFFER SOMETIMES!!! I love hearing them debate when one likes an element and the other doesn't. And even if the book is bad, they do still give compliments if they think something deserves it! And the opposite is the same too, if they don't like something in a book they love, they'll bring it up. They're really fair with their reviews. They inspiried me to pick up Temeraire and so far I'm liking it!
Holly Hearts Books- Okay to be fair I haven't checked in on her in a tad but from when I binged her stuff I loved how enthusiastic she is about fantasy. And she's not shy to admit if a book is technically bad even if she enjoyed it (because people can like bad things! Poorly written stuff can sometimes be fun and thats okay!). Or if it's a really well written book but just isn't her thing. She's another that also really loves to make sure she adds indie books into her collection instead of just trad stuff. (Or at least she was when I last watched. It's been a handful of months but eh)
Merphy Napier- Kind of like Daniel, but more focused on books. Occasionally she talks about other media but not super often. But she's also not fantasy-specfic and actually talks about a wide range of age ranges since she has kids and she sometimes talks about some good middle grade! It's just refreshing. Totally got me wanting to read Lies of Lock Lamura (Ugh fuck is that what it is??? Fuck...)
Elliot Brooks- Similar to Merphy but more just Adult Fantasy but does talk about some indie published stuff too. Haven't watched her in a tad but I do remember liking her takes.
Reads With Rachel- Okay we're getting into the handful of people who are more reviewers and are harsher?? with critques?? Rachel does have a ton of books that she's shared that she loves but she does offer good insight into bad books about WHY. And sometimes she reads bad books just to point out why they're harmful in a funny but respectful manner. Also if you wanna keep up to date with some shitty authors and who to stay away from and why, then her videos called Authors Behaving Badly are pretty good. She offers some good insight about a lot of things. Also VERY LOUDLY anti-book banning and censorship, to where she put some video evidence of her going to her like, town meetings about them and speaking out about it.
Crow Caller- Absolute ruthless longform videos about Why X Book Is Bad, but I feel they approach it more from "This is a learning experience, we can see what not to do by examining a work that doesn't get it right". Also funny. Mostly reviews like, christian-ish inspired book series because I think they're ex-catholic? Or thats just a topic she likes to dive into I dunno.
Tale Foundry- Okay this one is odd because it's more of a writing channel but they often use specific stories to showcase a trope, or technique, or magic system, etc etc. So I guess you can kinda use that as a reccommendation? I kinda do.

october media recap ✩°。 ⋆⸜ 🎧✮
i love music, movies, tv, podcasts, games, books, and more. here's a recap of things i watched in october 2023!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
music ♫⋆。♪ ₊˚
i've been really into more indie blues type music as autumn comes to a head, my playlist autumn girls this is for you has a bit more songs that i really associate with this season. anyway heres the list!
mitski - my love mine all mine
mitski - i'm your man
these two songs are phenomenal, as is mitski's album "the land is inhospitable and so are we" i actually wrote a brief analysis on my love mine all mine as a love song and breakup song. the feeling it invokes in me is second to none, what a beautiful song.
olivia rodrigo - lacy
sixpence none the richer - kiss me
jane remover - search party
searows - used to be friends
phoebe briders - moon song
iron & wine - flightless bird, american mouth
mazzy star - fade into you
sting - shape of my heart
yeule - software update
yeule - sulky baby
taylor swift - "slut!"
rachel chinouriri - maybe i'm lonely
emile mosseri - jacob and the stone
i actually listen to this song to fall asleep, but i can assure you that i also cry every time i watch those videos on the internet with this song playing in the background. it perfectly encapsulates a feeling of hope and loss. beautifully done. minari was a phenomenal as a (real) movie lover, i love when movies have tracks like this that so clearly stand out from the soundtrack and score.
movies 🎞️✮⋆˙
i haven't watched as many movies as i'd have liked in october, it has been an emotional month to say the least. but, now im on anti-depressants so our regularly scheduled slaying is back. movies will be rated a 1-5 star based on how much i enjoyed it! and NO NOT EVERY MOVIE IS FROM THIS YEAR OR EVEN THIS DECADE <3
talk to me (2022) ★★★★
pearl (2022) ★★★★
the invisible man (2020) ★★★★
child's play (1988) ★★★★
doctor sleep (2019) (fucking insanely good) ★★★★★
bodies bodies bodies (2022) (so camp??) ★★★
call me by your name (2017) ★★★★
silence of the lambs (1991) (this is a perfectly made film. argue with the wall!) ★★★★★
and thats about it, i genuinely have been too busy with school to watch as many films, still have not seen barbie or the fnaf movie because im so busy and too broke to go to the movies constantly LOL. however, i will say what my favorite youtube video topics are currently in my honorable mentions section!!
honorable mentions ˙˖°📷 ༘ ⋆。˚
my current fave youtubers or streamers :3
dead meat (james and chelsea constantly demonstrate a genuine love for horror and have recently been branching out to video games amidst the SAG strike! love them and their work so much, they have definitely made me into more of a horror movie buff)
wendigoon (i will listen to this man talk about anything, but he constantly raises the bar with how informed he is on topics. he just likes to talk abt weird shit and thats really neat idk)
supertf (ive been watching this guy for over 5 years he is still the funniest ow streamer out there sorry)
kyedae (she is rlly funny and even though valorant is boring to watch i watch her play mostly, however i LOVE when she does variety or horror its so funny how scared she gets)
jacksepticeye (watching him play spiderman 2 bc i don't own a ps5, BUT ALSO sean just has the best playthroughs of games like this. love his takes on the game!!)
mike's mic (olivia wilde nodding gif like if you get it you get it!)
games im playing right now :3
the sims 4 (do i need to explain this rlly... i have 2000 hours on sims... currently building a tiny town for the new expansion pack :3 pics here)
sun haven (started playing with my bf, feels like stardew valley with a bigger world and more things to do! i HATE the fishing mechanic. it is not for me babes)
valorant (playing occasionally as i am not very good, but i have alot of skins so yipee)
overwatch (i have 1600 hours in the game unfortunately. addiction is real guys)
fall guys (just recently started playing with my friends again, idk why anyone wouldnt want to play this its free and fun. theres a hatsune miku skin in the game like CMON)
genshin impact (im actually really invested in fontaine's story, if i had multiple hours a day to game i would do all the story quests and things but again, im so b u s y. still farming for arataki itto, pls come home)
bloons td6 (i've somehow racked up 60 hours on this game...its so fun...i love it...)
lastly, my october hyperfixation was...
horror movies and true crime!! i watched over 100 hours of movies, video essays, podcasts, and documentaries relating to horror and true crime. i'm officially burnt out of it though, so i will be back next month to once again happily share my interests!! byeee

So I’m still doing my “add at least one song from every country in the world to my playlist” resolution. The Spotify autocomplete function/algorithm in general is really reminding me of one of the reasons I wanted to do it.
Basically if you search for a relatively well off country, first results will be something like “restaurant/tavern/date night music from [country].” Countries with lower GDPs or recent wars or what have you will generally get you podcast episodes about Why is [Country] So Troubled?
And trust me, there’s definitely room for educational content like that.
Buuuut art can be a great way to get past headlines and stereotypes and so on and so forth. So it’s fun to dig a little deeper like … okay, what’s your indie scene? What does your r&b sound like? What sounds do your DJs like sampling? Do you have a metal scene? Etc etc etc. As a species we’re great at making art despite everything.

Tumblr media
Conor is very much an underdog story. After an unsuccessful attempt to break into F1, he returned to the states to try his hand at Indycar, his first love. This meant many years of one-off races, subbing for injured drivers and the occasional single season contract with a team. in 2020 and 21, he managed deals that allowed him to race full time, albeit with two teams, Carlin for ovals and ECR for road and street courses. In 2023 he is in the second season of a two year full time contract with ECR.
There is a 'what could have been' story. In 2011, Conor juggles duties between IndyNxt (then known as IndyLights) and GP3 in Europe, competing in 5 IndyNXT races and winning two of the first three, putting him in the championship lead. He then returned to GP3, only making it back to the states for 2 more races. His teammate, Josef Newgarden went on to win the championship and rose to Indycar the following year. If Conor had stayed and put the funding he had into IndyNXT instead of chasing what was ultimately a futile European dream, would he have had the opportunities Josef had? Won more races? Taken the championship from Josef? We will never know.
Tumblr media
It could be said that Conor was born and bred for motorsports in general and Indycar in particular. His father is Derek Daly, F1, Cart (later became Indycar), and IMSA driver. His mother, Beth Boles, was an Indy 500 Festival Princess in 1978, as well as worked at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in several different roles. His stepfather, Doug Boles, is currently COO of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Some of his earliest memories are at that track and others, as his father transitioned into being a TV broadcaster after he was born.
Conor is considered the friendliest guy on the grid and usually does the most to welcome newbies. He is something of an acquired taste, often over the top with his American patriotism (but doesn't really step over into the negative aspects of it). He's fond of using the weirdest phrases instead of swearing (lying sack of potatoes, cheating snake, etc), but does swear normally in unguarded moments (such as the radio during a race). He's a hometown boy, growing up just outside of Indianapolis. He knows the city inside and out. He has a self-deprecating sense of humor, making fun of all aspects of himself. A favorite descriptor he uses for himself is "A ginger diabetic with a bowl cut."
Tumblr media
Fanfic Lore
Good friends with James Hinchcliffe, Alexander Rossi and Marco Andretti. The four could be considered a 'band of brothers'. Conor lived with James for several months in 2016 (as did Alex Rossi) before moving in with Alex Rossi for a few more months (into 2017) once Alex had found his own place.
Often paired with one of the others of the band, most frequently Alexander Rossi
Historically paired with Josef Newgarden. They raced together in karts and lower series cars.

-You're a fan of audio fiction/audio dramas and you like ensemble casts. Our show has thirty actors overall, but don't worry, we'll introduce them slowly so it doesn't get confusing. Some of them only show up once or twice but are all important to the story. We wanted to give you a whole world like you're watching a tv show. You'll mostly follow Ben Miller, Ezra Hansen, Veronica Barrow, and Wyatt Perth to try and solve what happened to Janie Melnyk
-You either find true crime podcasts interesting or you can't stand them. A weird juxtaposition, we know. We'll explain. Our show is about Ben Miller an amateur true crime podcaster who can't get anyone to listen to his show. To try and increase listenership he asks his best friend Janie Melnyk if she will stage her own disappearance so he can find her. The plan works a little too well when she really does go missing. WTLFP follows tropes of true crime in Ben's search but also plays with how sometimes the people in front of the mic may take it too far and forget that they are still talking to real people. We bring you the consequences as well as the action.
-You like solving (or trying to solve) mysteries. If you think you're good at figuring out who did it before the big reveal, try your hand at this audio drama! Each episode Ben will follow a new lead until everyone is a suspect. The only clue he really has at the start is blood writing on a cabin wall that reads "Where the Leaves Fall Purple." What does it mean? And what does it have to do with the disappearance?
-You want a show with positive queer rep. 3/5 of our main characters are part of the LGBT+ community. Ezra: Ben's roommate, is a gay man dealing with the recent breakup with his ex-boyfriend Wyatt. Their breakup meant that he also lost his best friend. Wyatt deals with the stereotypes and scrutiny of being a bisexual man as he's started dating a girl named Skylar after Ezra. Veronica is a lesbian who is often everyone's voice of reason. She's Janie's other best friend who doesn't like Ben much at the start.
-You like shows that don't shy away from harder topics. WTLFP deals with topics of anxiety, biphobia, domestic violence/assault, death, and grief. We put warnings on episodes that may be triggering. We wanted the story to feel authentic (in a tasteful, responsible way), which means that sometimes we do have to have the hard conversations/moments. We try our best to handle them with tact and heart.
-You want to support indie artists/creators. WTLFP started as a group of people getting together in the show's creator's basement to tell a good story. And that's still what it is. Majority of the cast and crew are volunteers and others are only receiving a small honorarium because it's all we can afford to do coming out of a very difficult time for creatives. You listening directly supports everyone involved. We appreciate every stream/download.
Thank you for reading! We hope you'll give us a try!
