UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those guys are FUCKING INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Third World Cup Final in a row and third WIN in a row, it’s... my mind is... I can’t even describe it!!!!! And Lauge, my man, he had not played most (if not all) of December because of an injury, he wasn’t on the court in the first few games, and the games where he was on the court (before the Final) it wasn’t very long. Then they get to the Final, he is out there for most of the game and cashes in 10 goals!!!!! And let’s not forget Mads Mensah, I mean... only a few minutes out in and when he can see an open spot he just fires it in, absolutely incredible!!!
I’m gonna try to end this rant soon... even though I don’t really want to because I could talk about these guys for DAYS and I still wouldn’t be anywhere close to being finished. Seriously, my love and respect for these Danish handball beasts has gone through the roof and it’s NEVER coming down. Just... just think about it; Denmark had never won a World Cup until 2019 in which the host countries were Germany and (yep, you guessed it) Denmark where they defeated Norway in the Final, two years after that it’s in Egypt where they won against Sweden, and yet again the Gold is Danish after one hell of a match against France.
CONGRATULATIONS to ALL the teams who have participated in this years World Cup and I can’t wait ‘til 2025 where the hosts are Denmark, Norway, and Croatia. And, who knows... maybe Denmark will win it a fourth time...

Reunion
In 2021, researchers discovered that an 11th century skeleton uncovered from a grave in Otterup, Denmark in 2005 was related to a skeleton found in a mass grave in Oxford, England in 2008. DNA analysis showed them to be half-brothers, uncle and nephew or grandfather and grandson.
The man found in Oxford died young and it's speculated that he died during the St Brice's Day massacre, an attack on all Danes in England ordered by King Æthelred the Unready after an increase in Danish raids on England. The man found in Denmark died around the age of 50, having lived a farmer's life, but not one without combat.
After a century separated by the North Sea, the two relatives were reunited for an exhibition at The National Museum of Denmark.

"Therefore, the references to Thyra on both groups of stones likely refer to the same person – the Danish Queen and mother of Harald Bluetooth. This indicates that she was a particularly powerful and celebrated individual. It is likely that she held land and authority in her own right, not only through her husband. “No other Viking man or woman in Denmark has been mentioned on that many runestones,” says Dr Imer, “and it underlines her undeniable importance for the assembling of the realm under the rule of her son, Harald Bluetooth.”
Importantly, this means that women likely had more influence in Viking-Age Denmark than previously believed. It indicates that Viking women may have been able to hold power in their own right and rule on behalf of their husbands or under-age sons. It also has important implications for our knowledge on the formation of the Danish state. The authors conclude:
If we accept that runestones were granite manifestations of status, lineage and power, we may suggest that Thyra was indeed of royal, Jutlandic descent. Both Gorm and Harald refer to her in the runestone texts and Ravnunge-Tue describes her as his dróttning, that is, ‘lady’ or ‘queen’. Combined with the designation of Thyra as Danmarkaʀ bót, ‘Denmark’s strength/salvation’, these honours point towards a powerful woman who held status, land and authority in her own right. The combination of the present analyses and the geographical distribution of the runestones indicates that Thyra was one of the key figures—or even the key figure—for the assembling of the Danish realm, in which she herself may have played an active part.""

Vikings are often seen as heathen marauders mercilessly targeting Christian churches and killing defenceless #monks. But this is only part of their story. The Vikings played a key role in spreading Christianity too.

Modern-day Norse/Danish Viking lady. ✨⚔️
Fun fact: Despite not having my first song out yet (I’m very close!), I actually only started writing Viking/medieval themed rock and metal after I found out about my ancestors being vikings. I thought it was so cool, and it really made me feel like I had found a part of myself I was missing—and I was! Proud to be a descendant of those powerful people.

Okay so I’ve never had such a compulsion to write fanfic as the story unfolds?
So after my - uh - November breakdown I do have stories about what has gone on in HW and SB and SB patches; a few I’m very very invested in
But I have one; two as of 30 min ago - ShB fics that are more or less experiences as Meryta goes through it? And that’s really new for me. I want to halt playing until I can get it done. I need these things to exist so badly, no hindsight just. Jumping off and hoping I’ll fly
