First week of my beloved @shepscapades ’s Hermitcraft Character Design event!
for this week I chose to design my special boy bdubs as a druid for the dnd class challenge. what can i say, this man loves greenery, finding beauty in the world, horses, and i think if he had the option to blow people up with nature magic he would love that.

Hey Meep, Meepster, Meeperoni how do you draw scales?
I love your scales, both the prominent and far away ones. I especially love the scales on your cryptid boys.
So how do you do it?! When I try to draw scales it looks like a gravel road and just overall bad. Please share your wisdom, I beg.
In my head this turned into a bigger question than you might have intended pfjfjf, I tried my best to stay relativity simple with my answer!
Let me show you how you can think when figuring out big scales.
First I try to keep it simple and not sketch in all the scales until I've gotten the pose down.
When I start planning out scales I start with figuring out the direction of the scales and the big shapes (I usually do this in my head, but drawing it can be very useful)
Once I'm happy with the shapes and directions I start adding the scales one at a time, all overlapping each other like they're huge fish scales.
Scales don't always have to follow the same 'start at the head and run down the body' idea, you can do the opposite and get some very neat looking shapes. You can mix it up too. Here's some examples!
There are a lot of different kinds of scales and animals often have more than one kind. Some even do look like gravel!
I suggest looking at real life animals and fictional creatures for inspiration and reference. It takes a long while to learn how and where to use specific scales, but it'll be easier if you're willing to spend some time looking at and studying scales and the anatomy around them.
Some examples of animals with scales~ (names in alt text)

Behold
✨The little chain✨
The guys in order go (from right to left): sky, four, time, twilight, wind, legend, hyrule, warriors and wild.
I know some designs are more obvious than others, but I hope you all like this little doodle of the boys I made for fun.
Also, you guys have headcanons about the boys when they were little?
I have one about the hat that Time wore in his childhood was made by Saria long years before his adventure, but she inadvertently made it too big for little Time's head, so she kept it until the right time came. But little Time found it sooner than anticipated and, even if it was too big for him, he walked around proudly with his oversized hat everywhere, and no one could stop him from doing so. By the time of his adventure the cap already fit him well. To this day, he cherishes his cap very much and it brings back memories of his beloved friend. The end.

Iris Apfel, a textile expert, interior designer and fashion celebrity known for her eccentric style, has died. She was 102.
Her death was confirmed by her commercial agent, Lori Sale, who called Apfel “extraordinary.” No cause of death was given. It was also announced on her her verified Instagram page on Friday, which a day earlier had celebrated that Leap Day represented her 102nd-and-a-half birthday.

so, what is your opinion on angels? the creepy kind?
The "Biblically accurate angels"? (eyes, wheels, and wings) Hmmm they are definitely weird, but I think they make for more interesting designs than anything else. They do look otherworldly thats 'fer sure!
I've heard the Bible actually describes Angels with many different attributes tho. Much more diverse than just "eyes with wheels and wings".

Welp... here's the winner of the dress poll, you weirdos XD (says the one who not only drew this but also voted Eggman just so they could see who had the most votes) In any case, I was not expecting that to get more than fifty votes. I thought it would only get around ten, but boy was I wrong.
Anyway, holy hot damn he looks good! I had to give him a hand fan. There was simply no way I wouldn't (I drew my own hand holding a hand fan just to get it to look right). I wanted to put him in something that I thought would suit his personality, you know? A simple design wouldn't have sufficed.
The dress is somewhat inspired by this image made from Bing's AI image generator:
Apparently, this is what Eggman looks like XD
Bonus:
Looks like Bowser found himself a new princess. Man, even when Eggman wins he still loses

imo only thinking about whether a design looks cool without taking the characters traits or anything else into consideration can make it feel....impersonal ig? Which obv makes sense for /some/ characters but...if you want a character that feels real I think part of that is making them look and act like an actual person ykwim? Basically for the most part you shouldn't just go by whether a design "looks cool" Idt..
But on the other hand being too restrained with whether a design is grounded in reality can make it way too boring😅
Basically. Try to balance the two instead of leaning super far into one or the other..

Happy Pride Month and (very belated) Solarpunk Aesthetic Week! I wanted to redesign my longtime OCs, so I decided to give them a thematic twist!
Self-indulgent details about their designs under the cut:
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
From left to right:
Mia
Based on the romantic/cottagecore style, and incorporating aspects of Eastern/Central European folk dresses, such as the Czech kroj. Her vest is made from recycled overalls and excess fabric from her apron. Her natural motif is fungi -- her bow and earrings are amanita mushrooms (if you squint, her skirt looks like one too), and the frills on her collar + sleeves are chanterelles!
Clyde
He's a bohemian kinda guy, so I kept his silhouette relaxed and unstructured + harem pants + accessories. The exception is his jacket, a union of 3 different garments made to loosely resemble traditional Indian clothing like the achkan. His natural motif is the sun - hence the warm tones, which is contrasted with splashes of teal, the colour of his aura (its a fictional superpower thing).
Glace
His style is more preppy/academia - turtlenecks and sweaters are his type, so I gave him 3! Sewn together in a visible mending-esque style (inspired by tumblr solarpunks and their fashion projects)! His palette is taken from the mlm flag, and there's subtle elements of a Korean hanbok - his collar, sleeve shape, sash and tassel. Rips in his pants are covered by cloud patches (his motif), all dyed to match the aesthetic!
Simmer
Her thing is streetwear with a cultural twist - her top combines a bomber jacket and a Chinese qipao/cheongsam. Her detachable sleeves are extended via sewn-on zippers (useful as her powers generate a lot of heat)! Her motif is the phoenix, with patterns on her shirt and collar, hand-decorated using the batik method. Her hair streaks are inspired by stripes on a tiger - Malaysia's national animal.
Axis
She's all about the y2k aesthetic, with translucent tights and a hoodie stylishly revamped to form a super crop top + a figure-hugging bodysuit. Her design is inspired by indigenous Andean fashion, such as the Ecuadorian pollera, which her skirt might be repurposed from. Her motif is butterflies, as seen in her earrings, the shape of her bodysuit, and the wing-like curves of her skirt.
Piper
Initially wanted a punk-ish vibe for him but he might be a bit too cute now oops! His jacket is a mashup of 3 different pieces, and his jeans are a patchwork of denim. He's got iconic looks from French fashion (beret and scarf), as well as some African designs (the vertical pattern I referenced looked like plant cells, but also like binary code? I thought it was so on theme)! His motif is obviously plants of all types!
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
Thank you for checking this out (especially if you got this far)!!! ♡♡♡
